Health Insurance Issue
Health care costs for the average family are going up, the rising costs are rising faster than wages and
inflation. Most of the uninsured are Americans who are working, but can t afford health insurance.
Most people that have insurance, can get insurance because their employers cover it. 60% of people
get health insurance through employers. 9% of people actually purchase their own policies. The
remaining have insurance through government. The basic principles of the economy are such as;
supply and demand, and intellectual property rights. The economy has many effects on drug prices;
scarcity, cost of research, cost of production, value of the commodity, cost to take a drug to market,

A Kaiser Health tracking poll found 72% of Americans believe that drug costs are overwhelming, and
74% of Americans think Big Pharma cares more about money than patients (Elkins). There are many
different costs associated with cancer for instance; doctor appointments, treatment, medication,
transportation and travel, family and living expenses, caregiving, and employment issues
(Understanding the Costs Related to Cancer Care). You can find ways to help cancer costs including:
health insurance, fundraising, and financial assistance (Glover). Newley and approved drugs can cost
anywhere from $10,000 a month to $30,000 per month (Glover). A British health journal found that 80
percent of cancer cases require surgery, less than a quarter of the people worldwide who need it will
actually get safe, affordable, and timely procedures, less than 5 percent actually get it (Whelan). Cost
issues don t only take an impact on your wallet, but your emotions, health, your time, and your
relationships (Managing the Costs of Your Cancer Treatment). A report says the US could be short of
as many as 4,000 oncologists by the year 2020, because the demand for treatment is growing faster
than the rate of supply (Paddock). On the supply side, of particular concern are the large number of

Who Is Rod Ford Irresponsible
Since the election in 2010, Rod Ford has managed to remain in the headlines. Everyone knew that the
mayor was short fused and combustible. He demonstrated his short fuse and mean streak, publicly,
during many different occasions. Toronto has a history of having some well known, popular mayors.
Sam McBride, whom made a fortune in lumber trade and made a strong influence throughout his
career, led the city in the Twenties and thirties. The people of Toronto adored him so much they named
a ferryboat after him that is still in use today. Mel Lastman, is well known for a chain of appliances
stories named Bad Boy. As mayor he created 70, 000 new jobs which resulted in $75 million in

He shows a long history of his short fused manor that lands him the front page on many articles. After
denying for months about being an alcoholic or addict Toronto Mayor admitted to having abused
substances such as alcohol and cocaine. Ford blamed his behavior and inability to complete tasks on
his drug abuse. In an interview with CIBC Ford apologizes for his actions and states, I think that goes
along with having this disease, said Ford. [When using drugs] You do things; you say things that just
aren t you. I take full responsibility. Ford admits to experimenting with almost every single drug on
the market, except for heroin. These drugs have serious precautions and effects on the user. Ford has
been doing serious drugs for years that overall change the characteristics of a person. Many believe
that this very well could be the underlying cause of the aforementioned issues. Mayor Ford decided to
enter rehab when he found himself unable to function day to day. After the previous incidents, city
council decided to revoke many of Ford s privileges and powers as mayor. Ford had lost the trust of
not only the people of Toronto, but city hall as well. Mayor Ford s racist, homophobic controversial
slurs could be the cause of years of substance abuse. Toronto will take this as a learning experience
when time to vote in the future. This shows that one should not continue to overlook the issues at hand
and deal with them when they arise. When someone is in a position of power, their personal life is just
as big of a factor as their political life. This person has an immense amount of power and needs to be
reliable, professional and have the public s best interest in hand at all times. Mayor Rob Ford has
failed to live up to Toronto s expectations of a successful public leader; this is evident through his
infamous reputation, ignorance to budgeting and failure to complete administrative
