Morals, Values, And Ethics
Morals, values, and ethics are conditions which represent a person character, view of their society,
and culture. Morals and ethics are two principles that are similar in that it includes how decision are
made either good or bad (Remley Herlihy, 2016). As a future, mental health professional, it is
essential to have sound judgement when making decisions that will ultimately impact clients. We
will review morals, ethicsfrom my perspective.
Influence
Being raised to have strong faith, courage, honesty and integrity were some of the many values
taught. Always make the right decisions and choices in any problem or circumstance. Our
household provided compassion, love, care, kindness, and correction. Having integrity taught
me to always do what was right, because I believed it was right, and not from a place of distress.
There is a saying treat others how you would want to be treated , this was a major part in my
family upbringing. Being raised in an environment where respecting someone privacy, not
interrupting a conversation, and lending a helping hand helped me to become a responsible
person in life. Having self awareness, helps to know who I am, when it comes to being bias,
convictions and making the right decisions. There will be times when doing what is right seem
uncomfortable. However, the mental health profession allows me to act as an advocate for helping
others recover. Which is why, it is important for me to do the right thing to ensure a client is safe.

Enron Is An Energy Trading, Electric Utilities And Natural...
Enron is an energy trading, electric utilities and natural gas formed in 1931. It was merged to
Houston s Natural Gas Company in 1985 by Kenneth Lay. It was the most innovative company for
6 years until it came crashing down in a terrible scandal known as the Enron Scandal which led to
the suspension of Arthur Anderson. Enrons stock price decreased rapidly and abruptly collapsed and
filed for bankruptcy.
Unfortunately, in 1987 Enron merged with Valhalla. The problem began because traders exceeded
their trading limits, executing contracts to delivers tens of millions barrels of crude oil. Then they
couldn t afford to buy oil because they ran out of cash. It was discovered that Valhalla, had been
manipulating the books. In fact, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Enron had no other choice than to bluff the market and they were then able to cover the short fall
by purchasing small amounts of now inexpensive oil and distributing it to customers in quietness.
Once Enron was recognized as a chief competitor in the gas marketplace, it began using capitals to
employ its impact on U.S. dogmatic developments. For instance, Kenneth Lay remained indeed one
of President Bush s crucial sponsors through the president s prompt dogmatic profession. On the
other hand, Clinton management retorted to Enron s politicization by associating the deregulation
of power at the national level as demonstrated by the U.S. Division of Energy s unsuccessful
deregulation notice of the central 1990 s. California hooked on the dogmatic burden produced
through Enron s politicization existence in their municipal council and ultimately elected to
liberalize their overtly alleged electric efficacies. The catastrophic penalties of this act, comprising
Enron s participation in the, gaming of the California system, headed to the Western Energy Crisis
of 2000 as well as 2001 have been very acknowledged. Enron charged less on average for
electricity than the greatest of the municipally possessed utilities in the Pacific West during the
energy crisis. Enron committed accounting and securities fraud with corporate shell games and
derivative that were not exposed by regulators but by stockholders who were knowledgeable that

National Anthem Essay
The controversial issue of protesting the National Anthem has plagued the United States since the
year of 2016. Disputes have occurred over whether or not the athletes should be able to display
their opinion to the public even if the demonstration offends our armed forces. Many say the
protests are useless because the kneeling is diverting the public eye from the original issue; the anti
protest collection also agrees that the kneeling is not unconstitutional, and it should be restricted by
the owners of the teams. Though all of the arguments can be assumed to be correct, one might could
argue that these athletes were given this high platform so that they could be allowed to use their
freedom of speech to express their views about inequality, injustice, police brutality, etc. and to show
equality through the unification of their teams. This act of defiance against the National Anthem
was said to be disrespectful to the men and women that have protected this country. Many war
veterans agree with this because they believe that the athletes are dishonoring the symbol that gave
each of us our freedoms. I stand for our flag and anthem, and I kneel for our fallen. That s what
patriots do, (Griggs). The veterans of our country are not the only ones expressing their beliefs on
the subject; a publication by the Wall Street Journal states that before the National Anthem in
Foxborough, Massachusetts, fans held a sign reading Real Patriots Stand Up For Their Country (

The Role Of Gender, Individual Trait, And Emotion
The role of gender, individual trait, and emotion in response to advertisements using violent vs. non
violent images and messages to promote mediated MMA consumption.
Sang Yoon Ryu
Introduction
Over the past few decades, Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) industry has dramatically increased (Kim
et al, 2008; Lim et al., 2010; Damon et al, 2009; Andrew et al, 2009; Kwak, McDaniel, 2013).
The sport exceeded boxing and wrestling as the preferred combat sport among young people
(Lafayette Hibbered, 2006). The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), which is the most
popular MMA promotion company in the MMA industry, has successfully arrived at media
consumption by the pay per view and being shown in the prime time on TV. It also has expended

For example, Sargent et al. (1998) found that males are more enjoyable for combative sports (e.g.,
boxing, karate, football, ice hockey) since males assume attracted to violent and aggressive
exposure. On the other hand, female preferred stylistic sports (e.g., gymnastics, figure skating, and
tennis) since females seem preferring elegance of athletic displays.
Some research also indicated that individual differences (sensation seeking; SS) can be variance on
the consumption of televised sports (McDaniel, 2003; Zuckerman, 1988; 1994). The perception of
sensation seeking, which is a biologically determined personality, was related to optimum
stimulation level (OSL) and optimum level of arousal (OSL) which helps explain media consumer
behavior characters like media consumption and content preferences (Kassarjian Sheffet, 1991).
Sensation seeking suggests that a demand for stimulation and arousal explain individual s preference
, and react to media violence (Goldstein, 1999; McDaniel, 2003; Zuckerman, 1988; 1994). High
sensation seekers (HSS) prefer graphically violent content (e.g., Aluja Fabregat 2000, Aluja
Torrubia, 1998; Schierman Rowland, 1985; Greene Krcmar, 2005). In addition, sensation seeking
was positively connected to violent combative sports (e.g., boxing, karate) for both males and
females. Therefore, we can estimate that HSS are more interested in violent image and message of

Symbolism In Lot Of The Lottery By Shirley Jackson
Lot of the Lottery
Brittney Hale
ENGL 1302
Ms. Mary Elle Young

Shirley Jackson s The Lottery , is a story that is filled with symbolism. The author uses symbolism
to help her represent the human race as cruel no matter how righteous he or she may see
themselves, or how perfect their way of life may seem to be. The story is very effective in making
the reader question the unnecessary nature humans express, especially when it comes to tradition or
violent behavior. Jackson effectively expresses her beliefs concerning mankind s true nature that is
commonly masked behind tradition. The author portrays how inhumane and cruel people can be
when it comes to their values and everyday life. Jackson presents the theme of this short story with a
major use of symbolism. Symbolism is shown throughout the setting of The Lottery, objects,
contestant s names and numbers.
The author makes it well known to the reader that the black box is the central theme of the
passage. The box symbolizes, at first, that something more ominous is to come. Jackson s choice
of the color black is a perfect example for the story, it symbolizes death and complete darkness. A
town person s fate lies in the hands of this inanimate object. The black box is an excellent
representation of the sacrifice the citizens are willing to give to keep up with traditions. The
author not only used the color of the box to symbolize what was happening in the town, but also
the condition of the box. The no longer completely black but splintered box portrays the decaying
of the original religious ideals the lottery (Jackson 230) was founded upon. Even though the
citizens felt uneasy about the box, and would even keep their distance from the stool with the
black box on it (thoughtco). They do not question the origin of the black box, but they accept it as
a way of life.
The names of the character play a significant role in developing the story. Quite a few of the
names are more obvious than others, such as Delacroix, which translates as of the cross . Others,
such as Adams, make the reader think more in depth about them. One of the main characters, Mrs.
Delacroix, appears often in the story. She is a companion of Tessie, the

The Press Released Horror Stories
United States. In Kenya, the press released horror stories of what the Mau Mau rebels did to
colonists to destroy support for them among both the British back home, and potential rebels in
Kenya. International news reported Kikuyu attacks on settlers as fanatical, degraded, bestial, and
satanic (Robbins 295). Such press reports denied the Mau Mau rebels their own voice in the
international conversation and turned potential sources of support against them.
However, just as the press has the power to deny support to indigenous resistance, so it can lend
support. In 2011 the National Geographic/Buffett Award for Leadership in Conservation went to

However, all responses from governments and capitalists have not been violent. Native Americans
have ongoing, nonviolent struggles with the United States government over land, money,
education, healthcare, and legal rights. Maxus has regular dealings with ONHAE that are
nonviolent, yet they are a form of resistance because ONHAE is in itself a resistance.
Those that are protested against may not understand the protest; Robbins writes that the British
could think of no reason that the Mau Mau would rebel, and so they blamed the Mau Mau oath
(Robbins 297). When two cultures collide, it is reasonable to assume that one (or both) will not
understand the other; there is often little attempt to understand the indigenous culture, as shown by
missionary attempts to educate indigenous people away from their traditional cultures. The
inability to understand each other, or perhaps the lack of an attempt to, may also be a leading cause
for the violent reactions that foreign parties have had to indigenous resistance.
The Huaorani are such a small group that open rebellion like the Mau Mau s would be totally
illogical. Instead, they have tried going the legal route, and, in doing so, have attempted to create a
cross cultural understanding by educating the leaders of ONHAE to interact with outsiders.
ONHAE is an organization of resistance, yet it works semi cooperatively with those that it was
organized to resist. This seeming paradox

Unilateral Decent Research Paper
Bilateral decent is a kinship system in which individuals trace their kinship relationships through
both parents. Relatives to both parents are equal in importance in this kinship system. Unilineal
decent is a system that relatives use to trace their connection through only one line, patrilineal or
matrilineal. With unilineal decent the line is an importance placed on whatever side has the
standing for tracing kinshiprelationships. In a Unilineal decent system, the people in the line that
are the most important would be primarily responsible for someone s economic and social welfare.
They also would cooperate and associate themselves with them and their own siblings. An example
of this could be that in patrilineal societies property is primarily

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Telework
Telework, a new trend in management starting from the 1970 s most notably depicting the new
information age where most people felt that teleworkers were definitely out there, has significantly
and progressively increased with no global consensus on how to clearly define and unify both the
criteria and the requirements for a universal telework system. Shockingly, when we studied the
history of work, we discovered that working from home preceded working from the office. In fact,
in the middle ages, the routine was for artisans to work on raw materials from home and then supply
them to traders, buyers, and/ or merchants. It was only when the industrial revolution began that the
workers had to commute to where the factories and the large machinery were functioning. (A...

An employee out of sight might seem to be out of supervision, out of productivity, and out of work.
This shift from the traditional in office work to the out of sight work seemed to greatly frighten
many managers who felt the urge to change their management styles into a more trusting and
effectively communicative ones. Thus, came the high needto shed the light on both advantages and
disadvantages of telecommuting for both sides of the coin: the employee and employer.
For a relatively new management strategy, there aren t enough research and studies out there to
scientifically prove its efficacy and benefits. The majority of the people have always reported that
they hated their jobs and felt uncreative and increasingly unproductive down the years. Employers
have mainly struggled with constant turnovers and the lack of highly qualified workforce that
might have been bound by geographical constraints in many cases. An investigation into this
practice would help foster some depth into this spectrum in order to generally increase work

The 1940 Statement Of Academic Freedom And Tenure
For many in higher education tenure would be the brass ring; a fitting end to a career of service,
education, and research. But what is tenure? Defined in the 1940 Statement of Academic Freedom
and Tenure, tenure is first the freedom of teaching, research, and extramural activities, secondly, it
is a sufficient degree of economic security to make the profession attractive to men and women of
ability (American Association of UniversityProfessors, 1970). The process of defining tenurewas a
collaborative effort of faculty, administrators, and educational committees. Originally drawn up in
1915 as the Declaration of Academics, the statement was in place until 1940 when a meeting of the
American Association of University Professors(AAUP) and the Association of American Colleges
agreed on a restatement to be known as the 1940 Statement of Academic Freedom and Tenure
(American Association of University Professors, 1970). Additional changes were made to the
document in 1970, but they retained the modified the name designated in 1940. Since tenure
encompasses the freedom of teaching; an essential component to tenure is academic freedom. The
1940 Statement of Academic Freedom and Tenure (1970) states that considers academic freedom as:
Teachers are entitled to full freedom in research and in the publication of the results, subject to the
adequate performance of their other academic duties; but research for pecuniary return should be

Monkey Is A Classic 18th Century Chinese Folk Tale
Screenplays are meant to inspire the imagination and display a prevalent theme in an interactive
and approachable manner. Monkey is a classic 16th century Chinese folk tale novel that mixes
allegory, history, and satire into a chaotic but however meaningful adventure. As a combination of
being a picaresque novel and a fold tale epic, magical realism is evident and plays a big role in the
story. The allegorical nature of the characters and the anti bureaucratic satire makes the novel more
alluring and thus has made the story more enduring and popular. The vivid imagery and
descriptions makes the story come alive as Hsuan Tsang, Tripitaka, ventures in his arduous travels

A pine tree? Did you think I taught you in order that you might show off in front of other people
(Wu 27)? The novel serves as a dazzling combination of slapstick comedy, spiritual wisdom, and
nonsense with profundity. Particularly interesting is the metamorphosis of the Monkey or the
symbolism of the Stone Monkey. This character change is noteworthy and would be a focal
aspect of the screenplay. In the end, accomplishing the mission of reaching the scrolls back to
China, Tripitaka and his three disciples get escorted to heaven by the eight Vajraparis. They all
get promoted by Buddha himself as Tripitaka is now Buddha of Precocious Merit, Monkey is
made to Buddha Victorious in Strife, and Pigsy is the Cleanser of Altars. In the beginning the
Monkey is carved out of stone symbolizing his lack of being apprehensive and belittling fear.
Because of how he was brought to existence his careless and reckless nature was brought about by
how he was born with no family, especially parents. Due to his recklessness and misbehavior in
Heaven, Monkey had to be trapped under the Mountain of five elements. This is particularly
interesting as this entrapment serves as symbolism of how Buddha is superior to man, and the need
for the quest to enlightenment. However, a distinct change was evident as mentioned, But

Felix Mendelssohn Major Accomplishments
Mendelssohn was a famous German composer of the Romantic period. Although he was born into
a Jewish family and grew up without a religion he soon became a reformed Christian. Mendelssohn
was born with the talent to be able to play instruments and make music, but his parents never really
supported his talent and didn t help him to improve his talent. He went on to pursue what he loved
to do and that was to compose and conduct music.
Mendelssohn was born in Hamburg, Germany, 1809. He was the grandson of the philosopher
Moses Mendelssohn, and the son of a banker (Abraham Mendelssohn) and his mother who was a
part of the Itzig family (Lea Salomon). He was the second of four children in his family and his

He never really performed on stage he was more a composer/ conductor, but when it came to
these instruments he was in the spotlight. He did however perform his own work and those of
Bach and Beethoven as well; this was really the only time where you were able to see him perform
on stage. Felix Mendelssohn and Robert Schumann had a very close working relationship as
composers as well as piano and organ performances of the composers 3(Chernaik).
Mendelssohn was one of the greatest conductors of all time. Why you may ask? Well he was the
one who started the use of the baton for tempo and to have control over the orchestra. This helped
with his success as a conductor and was a big innovation for future conductors after him. He was
at times judged for using the baton because the tempo on some works were too fast, but that didn t
matter to him because it was what helped him be a good conductor.
Mendelssohn is remembered as a talented composer, conductor, musician, etc. However after his
death there were many to criticize his background because he was Jewish and successful. But
there are also many who believe that he was great and a genius at what he did. This respect wasn t
really shown towards him until another 50 years or

Significance of Section 3 and 4 of the Human Rights Act 1998
The power to strike down Acts of Parliament is defined as the power to declare legislation invalid
because it is unconstitutional. This paper will critically assess sections 3 and 4 of the HRA 1998
by defining them, reviewing case law surrounding their use, and by evaluating the powers that they
give to the judiciary. By doing so, it will demonstrate that section 3 gives judges powers that are
not significantly different from the power to strike down Acts of Parliament, whereas section 4
does not.
Definitions
Section 3 of the Human Rights Act (HRA) 1998 provides that primary and subordinate legislation
must be read and given effect in a way which is compatible with Convention rights . This
provides judges the power to interpret and amend legislation so far as it is possible so that it is
in accordance with Convention rights. There is no need for ambiguity in wording of the act to use
section 3 and it does not affect the validity of the Act notwithstanding the Act being incompatible
with Convention rights. There are limits on judges ability to use section 3 which restrict cases in
which it can be used. First, section 3 cannot go against the grain of the fundamental purpose of the
legislation in question. Second, judges can only go so far as possible when interpreting legislation.
The means that judges are restrained by the plain words of the provision and cannot stray from it s
meaning so far as to completely amend it.

Obesity in Australian culture and society
Obesity in Today s Australian Culture and Society
Introduction Obesity is best referred to as the red alert health zone . The thing that makes obesity
that dangerous is the fact that today s society does not view obesity as a serious threat. It is
important to understand the fact that obesity is not just being fat or having a BMI i.e. Body Mass
Index greater than that of an overweight person. Obesity is a serious problem that can fatally
damage the physical as well as mental health of a person. While all of us understand how obesity
can affect the physical health, a few of us know how mental health is affected due to obesity. A
person suffering from obesity is termed as obese. Such a person is usually a victim of mockery
and insult due to his appearance. No matter how educated we are we as a society have failed to
keep in account the fact that obese people are also humans and deserve to be treated normally. The
unequal treatment for the obese along with the comments consisting of insults and mockery
combined together to form a state of mental instability in the obese person. This results in a higher
rate of anxiety and depression in the obese. The severity of depression is sometimes so high that it
results in suicide attempts. Obese people are generally viewed by the others as the annoyed people.
The reason for that is the fact that due to the alienated treatment from the normal people, they are
likely to have emotional instability which results in severe mood

Environmental Pollution, Cause And Causes Of The Love Canal
In 1890 a massive environmental pollution struck a neighborhood within Niagara falls, New
York, called The Love Canal. The love canal was originally intended to e a model plan
community, the love canal was a residential area before being purchased by the Hooker chemical
company. The problem began after its sale to the local school district project. The toxic waste
dumped under grounds affected the health conditions that lasted a lifetime to numerous families.
The neighborhood demolished and according to the New York state health department was
considered a national symbol of a failure to exercise a sense of concern for future generations. But
the worse is that the Love Canaltragedy can happen again anywhere in the country unless serious
matters are taken to prevent it.
It all began in 1890, William T. Love an ambitious entrepreneur dreamed of building a community
filled with parks and residences believing in twould serve the industry with hydroelectricity. In
May 1894, work on the canal begun, Love digged the canal along with building some streets and
houses. Unfortunately Love had to abandon the project due to economical disastrous. With the
abandoned project, the canal gradually filled with water. Local children swam there during summer

mounds of soil somewhere. The sun, however, glowed with all of its glory and gleam, its rays

clouds had trailed that same sky. Lillian gazed straight ahead on a wooden rocking chair, every so

To begin, I would like to discuss the benefits of the disease model for addiction. To be fair, this
model resonates with me the most. As stated in the Historical Perspectives on Addiction, By
changing the way we talk about addiction, we change the way people think about addiction, both of
which are critical steps in getting past the social stigmatoo often associated with this disease (Freed,
2012, p.27). I feel that this quote sums up the most significant benefit of the disease model. Not
only does it remove stigma, but by removing this stigma you could potentially have more
individuals seeking treatment. In addition to this, by removing stigma you move it from an
individual s problem into a public healthissue. Therefore, if addiction is a public health issue you
would see more services/support systems available. A second benefit of the disease model is that
there is evidence that supports the theory (Hall,2017).
On the other hand, there are some negative aspects associated with this model. One criticism is
the disease model may prevent them from developing self control, and damages self esteem
(Frank, 2017, p.130). In my opinion, I do not agree with this statement because I believe that the
disease model gives more power to individuals. Although, I do agree that the disease model does
not explain the Large scale epidemiological studies show high percentages of spontaneous recovery,
even without specific treatment (Frank, 2017, p.130). This lack of

The use of setting in literary papers develops interesting and captivating stories. The Story of an
Hour is based on Kate Chopin use setting as a tactic to build suspense in her narratives. On the
other hand, the use of setting by Chopin in Story of an Hour is used to generate suspense and
mystery. In Story of an Hour Chopin sets the story at the beginning, giving it a twist, reveals a

The Athabasca Tar Sands Has Caused Great Environmental Damage
The Athabasca tar sands are the 2nd largest tar sands in the world, covering an area over the size
of the state of Florida. The tar sands are estimated to have enough oil to produce 1.7 2.5 trillion
barrels of oil (Levant 4), and this large supply of oil has made Canada the #1 supplier of oil to
America. The oil in Athabasca is originally Bitumen, which has a thick texture, almost like peanut
butter, and plasters sand and minerals, which makes it very difficult to remove and produce. 80%
of the oil is over 75 meters underneath the surface (Riebeek), and can only be removed by
depositing hot water into the mine so that the oil can condense and be extracted. This process is not
only very expensive, but also has devastating environmental... Show more content on

These tailings ponds leak 67 litres of the toxic water into the Athabasca River every second (*2).
This has caused the levels of toxic hydrocarbons in the nearby lakes and rivers to become 2.5 23
times what it was before the development (Cotter). The Athabasca river has also become extremely
low, and the Athabasca glacier has receded 1.5km since the tar sands expanded. The Alberta
government is aware of the growing water subject, and is trying to alleviate this impact by putting
water limits and weekly limits on how much water the oil companies can use (Alberta s Oil Sands
5). They are also attempting to recycle the toxic water to moderate the environmental impact.
Alberta Premier, Ed Stelmach, says, There has been a lot of talk lately about whose targets are
toughest, or whose plan is better. While others are talking, Alberta is acting. Our climate change
plan ensures environmental protection while allowing for continued economic growth. It is
practical and achievable (Alberta s Oil Sands 10).
Although the government is trying to lessen the water impact, they are quite late, and some of the
impacts are not possible to be fixed at this point. Another affect of the toxic water seeping into the
river is the impacts it has on the nearby First Nations communities. The First Nations people in
Fort Chipewyan are so concerned about the affects the are begin forced to consider leaving the

Should Police Officers Wear Body Cameras Essay
Police officers are the people who protect the community. Lately we had a couple pf incidents
with police officers and citizens. Many citizens are now freighted by police officers. We have some
citizens who do attacks against police officers, causing the loss of innocent lives. Police officers
should be required to wear body cameras because the videos could be used for evidence at trial, and
policeofficers can look back at the videos to evaluate themselves. One reason police officers should
wear body cameras is to be able to use the videos as evidence. Many cases cannot be resolve due to
lack of evidence and the death of citizens in the hands of police officers. Lately we had many

Some opponents believe body cameras are too expensive and it creates financial problems to the
police department. As a community everyone should volunteer to buy the body cameras for
police officers. In addition, some people believe that the files will not have a way to store to keep
for evidence. Technology is very advance now police can transfer files immediately to a USB
device if they need more storage on their camera. Body cameras will save many peoples life s
including police officers. Although others are in favor of body cameras, they will save a lot of
innocent lives, including the citizens, and police officers.
Police officers should start wearing body cameras. Wearing body cameras will help police officer

Positive Memories Essay
Create Memories. Try various activities together and have some fun. Create great memories by
taking up a new hobby, or travelling together. Most any activity you do together that you enjoy will
produce positive memories. So do something that you both can enjoy and develop wonderful

rough patch, as most relationships do. You can reflect back on the good times and they will sustain
you while going through the rocky roads on your relationship journey. The timesyou share will be
forever with you as your relationship grows.
Be Sensitive. Don t be rough and abrasive. Some say they prefer a more overt personality, others

Nickel And Dimed Discussion Questions
In Chapter three of Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich, one of the most significant
scenarios I would say is when Barbara is talking with Caroline about her lifestyle. Caroline lives
in a $825 a month rental home with her husband and two children. They are considered middle
class because they make close to $40,000 a year, but scraping by to make ends meet. Caroline
goes on to tell of her low wage life; this includes a hotel room cleaning job in Florida, and now
book keeping job in Minnesota. Also, Caroline tells Barbara of her struggles with balancing a job
and children, and her own health when living in Florida. Caroline has Diabetes, but was scared to

Barbara would have never discovered for herself how difficult balancing a low pay job and
having no one to look after your child could be. Not to mention, I think that this scenario really
opened Barbara s eyes talking to someone in depth about having a low wage lifestyle and what that
is like.
Question 7:
Throughout the three chapters of Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich the theme of poverty is
very evident. In Chapter one, Barbara is working Hearthside and talks to her coworker Joan
about her living situation. Joan lives in a van along with all her possessions. She has not yet
accumulated enough money to buy an apartment or trailer due to the low payment of two to
three dollars an hour plus tips at the Hearthside. This shows poverty because Joan lacks a safe
environment and her essential needs are not being met. Another example of poverty in this book
is in chapter two when Barbara is working as a maid, cleaning houses. Holly, Marge, and Barbara
are on their way to clean one of the houses when Marge notices how shaky Holly is. Marge
questions Holly on when the last time she was and if she has nausea. Holly tells

The activity or business of selling products or services. Contract involving transfer of the

both the buyer and seller to enter into a contract, (2) mutual agreement on the terms of exchange,

Finance is the study of how investors allocate their assets over time under conditions of certainty

Home Purchase Loans Research Paper
Home Purchase Loans Make Your Dream a Reality Home ownership has, for generations, been
described as the American dream. However, home ownership isn t generally possible without the
help of a lender. Home purchase loans make it possible for prospective homeowners to finance
the purchase of a property, allowing families to own a property without having to save the entire
purchase price first. In fact, common loans currently available make it possible for families to
move into a new home while paying as little as 3.5 percent of the home s selling price upfront as
a down payment. To make the process go smoothly, there are several things home buyers should
consider when buying a home today. Get Prequalified by a Lender Before shopping for a
property, it s always a good idea to visit with a lender offering mortgage loans in Houston, Texas.
The Loan Officer will evaluate each buyer s circumstances and outline the mortgage options

each type of loan to better understand their differences. Remember that origination fees and other
upfront costs vary, so be sure to clarify which loan options are actually the best investment.... Show

Determining Databases and Data Communications Essay
Determining Databases and Data Communications
In the two scenarios there are many ways that they can be solved or worked out to make them fit to
the person working with them. They both deal with databases and communications that companies
need to consider. In this paper we are going to discuss some of the options that companies or self
employed business owners can use.
Scenario One
Some of the typical fields that could be used would be of the booth equipment by piece, what
equipment you will need by piece, what company is shipping the components and the expected
arrival date and time. By having all of this information you will be able to use it as a checklist to
ensure that you have all the required pieces and components for the trade ... Show more content on

The best database to use in this scenario would be a personal one. Since a personal database is
used more for a small workgroup of fewer than 100 people and normally for fewer than 15 people
would work the best, (Kroenke, 2012). The reason this would work the best is because that not
everyone in the business work the trade shows so not everyone will need to have access to the
database, this will ensure that nothing is inputted incorrectly or misused.
A decisions support system would come in handy when deciding on which carrier to hire for the
equipment and booth components. By having this system could help keep the cost low for
shipping and if the carrier can be responsible you could use them all the time and refer them to
other customers. By doing this it will help after the trade show is over and you get all the
equipment back to your office in one piece and will not have to do extra paperwork for lost or
damaged equipment.
Scenario Two
The business will only need a LAN. Since the business is small enough and in one geographic
location a LAN will be able to support this business, (Kroenke, 2012). With the business having a
LAN they can run the cables for it anywhere they want. The LAN also has the capability of
having a wireless connection, depending on how far away the employees reside they might be
able to use the wireless portion of the LAN as long as they have a WNIC.
The business will also require

It even gives us an accurate and reliable type of grammar, comprehension and vocabulary of the

known that the history of English illustrates the inevitability of linguistic change. In the seventeenth

but the lexicons in both England and America were set to standards by Samuel Johnson s

literary figures of the eighteenth century, most famously compiling A Dictionary of the English

Before getting into more details about Dr. Johnson s dictionary, let s mention that the English
language grew more though years to become a national language. Before it became a national

The Cause Of The Triassic Jurassic Extinction Is High...
Toxic Compounds Another theory that some proposed as the cause of the Triassic Jurassic mass
extinction is high levels of toxic compounds released from volcanic activity. Directly around
volcanic activity in the rift zone, there perhaps would have been high levels of Fluorine and
Chlorine, both of which could have directly poisoned organisms. These large ejections of Chlorine
and Fluorine could have led to ozone depletion and acid rain (McHone 2003). However, due to the
fact that high levels of either of these compounds would have caused extinction without prejudice,
the actual role that toxic compounds played during the Triassic Jurassic extinction is hard to
predict and study (Hautmann 2012). Sea level Changes There is another theory proposed that
posits that rapid sea level regression followed quickly by transgression caused the mass extinction,
at least in the marine realm. According to Schoene and Geux (2010), Оґ18O values from fossil
oysters suggest cool ocean temperatures immediately following the negative Оґ13C excursion
followed by a period of warming. As shown in figure 2, during a time spanning approximately
300,000 years there was a positive carbon isotope anomaly (corresponding with a decrease in sea
level along with cooling and glaciation) followed by a period of higher sea levels and a negative
carbon isotope anomaly. These findings are consistent with rapid sea level regression transgression
lasting only approximately 290,000 years, which can only be explained

The excepted social theory of civilization s social process was made by the scientists Adam

One in particular that sticks out of this list is candid. Especially in todays politics there are very
few leaders and politicians that are honest and candid. Today we find many leaders lying and

guess one could say that the original principals that this country was technically founded on are
not being fallowed by todays leaders in americas. The founding father s also played a gigantic
role in the social culture in America. The social culture in America was very unique at the time.
When you are born in America you are not already put into a social class. There is an equal
opportunity for each and every person. And the role that the founding father s had played in this
was being the people who wrote the constitution which says what we can or can not do also
known as our set of laws. It says in the constitution that all men are created equally which
socially speaking there are not any nobles there are not any serfs or lords there are just citizens.
But what happens to slaves? Well in Thomas Paine s common sense he says that the government
should protect a citizens property and in the Southern colonies slaves were a part of their own
property. But if all men are created equal then how can a man be another man s property. The
founding father s had decided and played a large role in the social culture of The United States but

Sex in the City-the Roman Empire
Sex in the times of the Roman Empire was much less taboo than it is in today s society. If you

graffiti on walls, to brothels in the middle of town, sex just did not have the stigma and guilt that
we associate with it today. No men took advantage of this more than the men with the most power,
the emperors. Although many of the Roman Emperors were perverse you only have to look at the

One of the first things that Tiberius did when he came in to power was to reverse the laws that
Augustus put in to place trying to protect the morality of Rome. Tiberius spent very little time in
Rome during his reign as Emperor and retired to the country to spend the last eleven years of his
life. While living in the country Tiberius set new standards of debauchery, going as far as
creating a new government office for the originating of unfamiliar carnal pleasures (Cawthorne

when the two boys objected to the way Tiberius treated them that he had their legs broken. It is

Amazon s Product And Service
Amazon is using different operating models to provide products and service to customers. There are
three distinct models that Amazon.com offers, each with a different supply chain. The three
models are Amazon.com as seller, Amazon.com as intermediary, and Amazon.com as full service e

Amazon as Seller
The basic Amazon sales channel is the web store front end which serves as their core business.
Customers go to the Amazon.com website, browse products, and place orders. Amazon is
responsible for all front end customer relationships and back end logistics in this model. Once an
order is placed, Amazon decides which internal distribution center or drop shipper should be
responsible for shipping the order to the customers. After that, Amazon will responsible for
coordinating the fulfillment of the order. When products are sourced from its internal distribution
centers, then Amazon start to picks, packs, and ships the order. When products are sourced from a
drop shipper, such like a book distributor, the distributor packages the products by using the Amazon
box delivers it to the customer (Maltz et al., 2004). This model requires Amazon to maintain or
purchase inventory for immediate selling. In this model, Amazon owns the customer relationship,
provides the technology, owns or purchases the inventory, and executes the logistics as well.

by commercial motivation arguably led to the disaster in 1996. Involving sherpas more as a voice
of reason and greater expert support would provide better risk management to expeditions from the
beginning. Sherpas are are often more interested in staying safe than summiting as they work to
provide for their families year after year. As veteran climbers, know the risk Everest represents
better than any.
Utilizing the idealized influence of prominent sherpas can allow for greater support during
expeditions and give clients and other climbers experienced, safety conscious role models.
Experienced, charismatic sherpas like Lopsang and Ang Dorje who summit frequently and live at
high altitudes could provide key insight and a sense of security, if given more authority. If sherpas
had a greater role on expeditions, they might also feel inspired to take more initiative and increase
the capabilities of climbing groups in terms of communication and climbing potential. These
contributions can be enabled by providing opportunities for sherpas to train and take exams to
become certified guides themselves. The government or climbing companies could provide these
certification opportunities, but the Tibetan and Nepalese governments should certainly provide
general educational opportunities to sherpas as well.

At one point in time God mandated man and animal to eat solely from the earth. Perhaps in one
of the western world s oldest and most influential and powerful texts, there was reasoning for the
implied notion of equality. He creates man and woman at a synchronized point in time, on the
same day he creates all other earthly creatures again at the same time. He gives the same
instructions and blessings to animals as he does to man and woman he says, God blessed them
saying, be fruitful and multiply (Genesis, 1:22, 28). He also instructs both man and animal that the
earth is a food source for all. The text implies that animal and human are created and instructed in
an analogous fashion, as equal inhabitants of the earth, similar to the ideal against speciesism, that
all of God s creatures or earth inhabitants desire the equal right to life.
The same texts that seems to imply the guidelines of animal equality, is the main source of the
Judeo Christian faith. In my lifetime, I have never witnessed someone sitting down at a dinner table

composition as it is funny as well as true. This movie trailer spoke to me in relation to this course
as it shows realistic struggles women go through as a mother and the expectations they are
expected to withhold. It demonstrates how women marginalize other women and how there are
expectations of perfection that women are supposed to uphold and if they do they are not looked
down upon. This movie trailer was produced by STX Entertainment and was broadcasted
worldwide via the internet as well as on television. I crossed paths with this movie trailer on
YouTube while searching for a good piece of media. Being broadcasted worldwide shows that the

The ideas that society has put in our minds is that a woman has to be slim, look perfect and always
be ready for a photoshoot. All of the women in this movie trailer have a very similar body type,
these women are all slim, tall and beautiful which shows that the movie industry has narrow
vision. The beauty of the woman as objects and screen space coalesce; she is no longer the
bearer of guilty but a perfect product, whose body, stylized and fragmented by close ups, is the
content of the film and the direct recipient of the spectator s look, (Mulvey, 2006, p. 349). The
idea of a women being able to stay fit as well as being on top of all the modern fashion trends, and
looking perfect is very unrealistic. This is portrayed in the movie trailer when the one mother played
by Mila Kunis is in a workout class or when her and her friends are having conversation in regards
to her bra. When it comes to women s careers they are expected to wear appropriate clothing that
portrays them as professional, this allows them to be respected in the workplace. The contemporary
economy depends right now on the representation of women within the beauty myth, (Wolf,1991, p.
18). Society continues to push the ideology that all women have to be the same size and dress
certain ways in the workplace through different methods of media including movie

Recruitment And Selection Process Essay
As the business world is ever changing, so is the process that companies use in selecting ideal
candidates. The most common way for companies to start the process of filling an open position,
is to create a job posting. Job postings are most commonly posted on popular online job
websites, such as Glassdoor or Indeed. Many of the companies will also use software that will
sift through the thousands of resumes received and select a group of candidates that it feels are
ideal for the position. The company will then proceed to interview those candidates. With
software that selects resumes based on keywords that are specific to the job, it only makes sense
for candidates to tailor their resumes to maximize the opportunity to achieve that initial
interview. By creating a variety of resumes and cover letters tailored to specific position
openings, one increases his or her opportunity to receive an initial interview and getting hired.
Developed and developing economies have caused a shift in the scope of business. As the world
as a whole progress , jobs have become more demanding. In our knowledge based economy, value
is the product of knowledge and information. Companies cannot generate profits without the ideas,
skills, and talent of knowledge workers, and they have to bet on people not technologies, not
factories, and certainly not capital (Martin Moldoveanu, 2003, pg. 36). More demanding job
requirements have caused companies to only hire the best. Workers now require more

Red Room Symbolism
Bertha Mason prevents Jane s Happiness but helps her understand herself. She is a symbolic
representation of the trapped Victorian wife, who is expected to never leave the house and
becomes ever more frenzied as she finds no outlet for her frustration and anxiety.
The Red Room (where Jane was first put as a form of imprisonment and exclusion) a symbol of
what Jane must overcome in her struggles to find freedom, happiness, and a sense of belonging.
Foreshadowing scenes or events:
The chestnut tree under which Rochester proposes to Jane. That night, it splits in two, forecasting
complications for Jane and Rochester s relationship.

Reed, her cruel aunt. A servant named Bessie provides Jane with some of the few kindnesses
she receives, telling her stories and singing songs to her. One day,she was fighting with her
cousin John Reed, and as punishment Jane s aunt sent Jane to the red room, the room in which
Jane s Uncle Reed died. While locked in, Jane, sees her uncle s ghost, screams and faints. She
wakes up in the care of Bessie and the doctor Mr. Lloyd, who suggests to Mrs. Reed that Jane be
sent away to school (Lowood). At Lowood things start out rough but progressively get better.
After finishing school there she becomes a teacher at Lowood for 2 years. After teaching, she
accepts a governess position as a manor where she teaches a French girl. She secretly falls in love
with her employer (Rochester) and has to save him from a fire one night. Jane thinks that
Rochester is going to propose to this girl that he brought home but instead he surprisingly proposes
to Jane. Turns out Rochester was actually married to a woman, Bertha, whom he thought was dead.
Jane denies marrying him and becomes homeless until she stumbles upon a house where St. John
lives. St. John finds her a job. St. John decides to travel to India as a missionary, and he urges
Jane to accompany him as his wife. Jane agrees to go to India but refuses to marry her cousin
because she does not love him. St. John urges her to reconsider, and she nearly gives in. Jane soon

In Vitro Fertilization Is Ethical
Making someone else s baby Surrogate mothers carry another couple s child with her own eggs or
fertilized eggs from other women. Surrogate motherhood is unethical and needs to be banned due to
the fact that reproductive technologies are inhuman and a form of violence therefore, as surrogacy
becomes more popular, legal problems proliferate. Reproductive technologies such as In Vitro
Fertilization and surrogacyare a form of violence against women because they technologically
ravage women s bodies. In Vitro Fertilization is a medical procedure that s done where an egg is
fertilized by sperm in a test tube (Raymond 1). The procedure is just inhuman in many ways, the
mother is not naturally carrying the bay when fertilized egg and sperm are implanted... Show more

In one case a gay couple were able to purchase eggs for a surrogate mother for two
newborns(Devine 1). Here is where commercial surrogacy causes the children to be at risk.
There is no guarantee that pedophiles will not be able to buy and raise their victims, since there
is a egg and sperm donor. No one with a physical link can protect the child due to lack of natural
nurturing links put the child at a greater risk of abuse(Devine 1) . There are many questions
from everyone, What if these people do not have the right intentions? How do we know the
surrogate mother will take care of the baby until they are born? Questions that go through
everyone s head all the time. If you have to worry about these questions or just be unsure of it
then it should be illegal. people who are unsure about drugs, or a new medication they should
take makes them double guess it. Most of the time if they have to double guess it, they do not do
it. The ultimate horror of the 21st century science is that if you have enough money you can buy
a helpless newborn baby and do whatever they liked to with it in the privacy of their own home.
There is nothing nobody can do to stop it(Devine 2). Commercial surrogacy is not something
people should not turn to when looking for a child for whatever reasons they may have. If
people were to think about it, like they do not know the surrogate mother. The surrogate mother
doesn t get a background check nor does the family getting the baby. So literally anyone with the
money can get this child. They could possibly harm the child but yet no one will never know. At
least with adoption agencies they look into families background and make sure they are fit to
raise someone else s child. There has been some cases where famous people have turned to
surrogacy such as Michael Jackson. The $250 million pop

Remembering the Harlem Renaissance
During the early 1920 s, African American artists, writers, musicians, and performers took part in a
cultural movement known as the Harlem Renaissance. This migration took place after World War
1 and brought African Americans of all ages to the city of Harlem located in New York (Holt).
There were many inspiring young artists; one of them in particular was Augusta Savage.
Augusta Savage was born on February 29, 1892, in Green Cove Springs, Florida. Savage began
making art at an early age using clay that she could find. She enjoyed making animals and other
small objects yet her father, who was a Methodist minister, did not approve of her hobby. He did
all that he could to stop her. Savage once said her father almost whipped all of the art out of me
(Savage). Even though her father objected her hobby, she continued to make sculptures. The
family moved to West Palm Beach, Florida in 1915. After this move Savage faced a new problem,
a lack of clay. She eventually found some clay from a local potter and created a few figures that she
entered in a county fair. Her work received a winning prize and the support of George Graham,
the fair s organizer, who encouraged her to study art. Savaged moved to New York Cityin the 1920
s, but struggled financially throughout her life. She studied at the Cooper Union and she received
a scholarship after her first year to help with living expenses. She exceled at the Union and finished
in three years instead of the usual four. Savage learned

Queer As Folk
Television has changed to include the LBGT community, but seldom do you see the Gay
community with HIV shown on television. This chapter covers a study about Gay undergraduate
males and the way it makes sense of HIV and its storyline on television. The study draws from
the fictional television series Queer as Folk, one of the highest rated programs on cable television.
First, the chapter begins by explaining the series Queer as Folk. This series is one wear lesbian and
gaymen and women live their lives, work, have good and bad days. During this series they do not
show HIV as a one time special occurrence, but as filtrated into the lives of the characters. During
the series loved ones were lost, and they discussed prevention. According to the text, there were
many critics due to the strong sexuality.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The focus group believed the couple was a good looking couple before one of them revealed he
had HIV. The focus group said the attractiveness of the couple decreased when the HIV bomb
was dropped. One focus group member said having HIV was a deal breaker. The focus group
revealed that on the series they rarely seen the happy side of a person live with HIV. Generally
focus group members felt that shows like this help people understand that people living with
HIV are living with one more thing to deal with instead of always being consumed with the
possibility of death or illness (Dines and Humez). Ultimately, the focus group recognized though
they were initially entertained, they could appreciate education of the aspects of gay culture
including HIV awareness and prevention. The focus group had positive reviews of how the
storylines are presented. I will admit this summary took me a little bit out of my comfort zone. I do
realize there are all types of people in this world and we all deserve to be loved. I have never seen
Queer as Folk personally, but from the chapter reading it is very

Housing Bubble Case Study
Why This Isn t a Housing Bubble
Housing prices have been rising steadily, but rumors of a new housing bubble are tempering
optimism. Many reports are suggesting that the current housing bubble is greater than the one that
formed in 2006 and burst in 2008. But is there any truth to these dire predictions, or is it just media
hype and speculation?
Overvalued Homes Don t Equal an Impending Crash
Compared to the first three months of 2015, twice as many metropolitan home markets are now
considered overvalued. Overvalued here means that the prices are inflated compared to income.
The media says prices are likely to come crashing down, yet experts say this isn t the case. Just
because home prices are overvalued doesn t mean there s an impending ... Show more content on

At $236,000, the average sales price of a home in the United States is now above what it was in
2006. Prices in 14 of the 100 largest metropolitan markets in the country are now above their
historical averages. Look a little deeper, however, and there are reasonable explanations for the
spike in prices. Of the 14 metropolitan markets mentioned above, six are in Texas, which recently
experienced a huge oil boom. Texas may serve as a microcosm for what s happening in the rest of
the country.
High Demand, Low Supply
The most fundamental principle in economics is supply and demand. It just so happens that this
very simple economic truth is the cause of the so called bubble; housing demand across the
country is high, and supply is near record lows.
Ten years ago, the bubble was caused by free, easy credit that led many people to take out
mortgages they couldn t afford. This isn t the case today not at all. Recent mortgage regulations are
now beginning to take effect, and lenders and borrowers are more informed and acting more
responsibly.
The Verdict?
Don t let the dire predictions in the media get to you. Mortgage rates are nearly 5% lower than their
historic averages, making it an excellent time to think about becoming a

Morals and ethics are two principles that are similar in that it includes how decision are made either good or bad (Remley Herlihy, 2016). As a future, mental health professional, it is essential to have sound judgement when making decisions that will ultimately impact clients. We will review morals, ethicsfrom my perspective. Influence Being raised to have strong faith, courage, honesty and integrity were some of the many values taught. Always make the right decisions and choices in any problem or circumstance. Our household provided compassion, love, care, kindness, and correction. Having integrity taught me to always do what was right, because I believed it was right, and not from a place of distress. There is a saying treat others how you would want to be treated , this was a major part in my family upbringing. Being raised in an environment where respecting someone privacy, not interrupting a conversation, and lending a helping hand helped me to become a responsible person in life. Having self awareness, helps to know who I am, when it comes to being bias, convictions and making the right decisions. There will be times when doing what is right seem uncomfortable. It was merged to Houston s Natural Gas Company in 1985 by Kenneth Lay. It was the most innovative company for 6 years until it came crashing down in a terrible scandal known as the Enron Scandal which led to the suspension of Arthur Anderson. Enrons stock price decreased rapidly and abruptly collapsed and filed for bankruptcy. Unfortunately, in 1987 Enron merged with Valhalla. Enron had no other choice than to bluff the market and they were then able to cover the short fall by purchasing small amounts of now inexpensive oil and distributing it to customers in quietness. Once Enron was recognized as a chief competitor in the gas marketplace, it began using capitals to employ its impact on U.S. dogmatic developments. For instance, Kenneth Lay remained indeed one of President Bush s crucial sponsors through the president s prompt dogmatic profession. On the other hand, Clinton management retorted to Enron s politicization by associating the deregulation of power at the national level as demonstrated by the U.S. Division of Energy s unsuccessful deregulation notice of the central 1990 s. California hooked on the dogmatic burden produced through Enron s politicization existence in their municipal council and ultimately elected to liberalize their overtly alleged electric efficacies. The catastrophic penalties of this act, comprising Enron s participation in the, gaming of the California system, headed to the Western Energy Crisis of 2000 as well as 2001 have been very acknowledged. Enron charged less on average for electricity than the greatest of the municipally possessed utilities in the Pacific West during the energy crisis. • 5. National Anthem Essay The controversial issue of protesting the National Anthem has plagued the United States since the year of 2016. Disputes have occurred over whether or not the athletes should be able to display their opinion to the public even if the demonstration offends our armed forces. Many say the protests are useless because the kneeling is diverting the public eye from the original issue; the anti protest collection also agrees that the kneeling is not unconstitutional, and it should be restricted by the owners of the teams. Though all of the arguments can be assumed to be correct, one might could argue that these athletes were given this high platform so that they could be allowed to use their freedom of speech to express their views about inequality, injustice, police brutality, etc. and to show equality through the unification of their teams. This act of defiance against the National Anthem was said to be disrespectful to the men and women that have protected this country. Many war veterans agree with this because they believe that the athletes are dishonoring the symbol that gave each of us our freedoms. I stand for our flag and anthem, and I kneel for our fallen. That s what patriots do, (Griggs). The veterans of our country are not the only ones expressing their beliefs on the subject; a publication by the Wall Street Journal states that before the National Anthem in Foxborough, Massachusetts, fans held a sign reading Real Patriots Stand Up For Their Country ( Anthem ... (1998) found that males are more enjoyable for combative sports (e.g., boxing, karate, football, ice hockey) since males assume attracted to violent and aggressive exposure. On the other hand, female preferred stylistic sports (e.g., gymnastics, figure skating, and tennis) since females seem preferring elegance of athletic displays. Some research also indicated that individual differences (sensation seeking; SS) can be variance on the consumption of televised sports (McDaniel, 2003; Zuckerman, 1988; 1994). The perception of sensation seeking, which is a biologically determined personality, was related to optimum stimulation level (OSL) and optimum level of arousal (OSL) which helps explain media consumer behavior characters like media consumption and content preferences (Kassarjian Sheffet, 1991). Sensation seeking suggests that a demand for stimulation and arousal explain individual s preference , and react to media violence (Goldstein, 1999; McDaniel, 2003; Zuckerman, 1988; 1994). High sensation seekers (HSS) prefer graphically violent content (e.g., Aluja Fabregat 2000, Aluja Torrubia, 1998; Schierman Rowland, 1985; Greene Krcmar, 2005). In addition, sensation seeking was positively connected to violent combative sports (e.g., boxing, karate) for both males and females. • 7. Symbolism In Lot Of The Lottery By Shirley Jackson Lot of the Lottery Brittney Hale ENGL 1302 Ms. Mary Elle Young 10 03 17 Shirley Jackson s The Lottery , is a story that is filled with symbolism. The author uses symbolism to help her represent the human race as cruel no matter how righteous he or she may see themselves, or how perfect their way of life may seem to be. The story is very effective in making the reader question the unnecessary nature humans express, especially when it comes to tradition or violent behavior. Jackson effectively expresses her beliefs concerning mankind s true nature that is commonly masked behind tradition. The author portrays how inhumane and cruel people can be when it comes to their values and everyday life. Jackson presents the theme of this short story with a major use of symbolism. Symbolism is shown throughout the setting of The Lottery, objects, contestant s names and numbers. The author makes it well known to the reader that the black box is the central theme of the passage. The box symbolizes, at first, that something more ominous is to come. Jackson s choice of the color black is a perfect example for the story, it symbolizes death and complete darkness. A town person s fate lies in the hands of this inanimate object. The black box is an excellent representation of the sacrifice the citizens are willing to give to keep up with traditions. The author not only used the color of the box to symbolize what was happening in the town, but also the condition of the box. The no longer completely black but splintered box portrays the decaying of the original religious ideals the lottery (Jackson 230) was founded upon. Even though the citizens felt uneasy about the box, and would even keep their distance from the stool with the black box on it (thoughtco). They do not question the origin of the black box, but they accept it as a way of life. The names of the character play a significant role in developing the story. Quite a few of the names are more obvious than others, such as Delacroix, which translates as of the cross . Others, such as Adams, make the reader think more in depth about them. One of the main characters, Mrs. Delacroix, appears often in the story. She is a companion of Tessie, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Press Released Horror Stories United States. In Kenya, the press released horror stories of what the Mau Mau rebels did to colonists to destroy support for them among both the British back home, and potential rebels in Kenya. International news reported Kikuyu attacks on settlers as fanatical, degraded, bestial, and satanic (Robbins 295). Such press reports denied the Mau Mau rebels their own voice in the international conversation and turned potential sources of support against them. However, just as the press has the power to deny support to indigenous resistance, so it can lend support. Native Americans have ongoing, nonviolent struggles with the United States government over land, money, education, healthcare, and legal rights. Maxus has regular dealings with ONHAE that are nonviolent, yet they are a form of resistance because ONHAE is in itself a resistance. Those that are protested against may not understand the protest; Robbins writes that the British could think of no reason that the Mau Mau would rebel, and so they blamed the Mau Mau oath (Robbins 297). When two cultures collide, it is reasonable to assume that one (or both) will not understand the other; there is often little attempt to understand the indigenous culture, as shown by missionary attempts to educate indigenous people away from their traditional cultures. The inability to understand each other, or perhaps the lack of an attempt to, may also be a leading cause for the violent reactions that foreign parties have had to indigenous resistance. The Huaorani are such a small group that open rebellion like the Mau Mau s would be totally illogical. Instead, they have tried going the legal route, and, in doing so, have attempted to create a cross cultural understanding by educating the leaders of ONHAE to interact with outsiders. ONHAE is an organization of resistance, yet it works semi cooperatively with those that it was organized to resist. This seeming paradox ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Telework Telework, a new trend in management starting from the 1970 s most notably depicting the new information age where most people felt that teleworkers were definitely out there, has significantly and progressively increased with no global consensus on how to clearly define and unify both the criteria and the requirements for a universal telework system. Shockingly, when we studied the history of work, we discovered that working from home preceded working from the office. In fact, in the middle ages, the routine was for artisans to work on raw materials from home and then supply them to traders, buyers, and/ or merchants. It was only when the industrial revolution began that the workers had to commute to where the factories and the large machinery were functioning. (A... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, came the high needto shed the light on both advantages and disadvantages of telecommuting for both sides of the coin: the employee and employer. For a relatively new management strategy, there aren t enough research and studies out there to scientifically prove its efficacy and benefits. The majority of the people have always reported that they hated their jobs and felt uncreative and increasingly unproductive down the years. • 11. The 1940 Statement Of Academic Freedom And Tenure For many in higher education tenure would be the brass ring; a fitting end to a career of service, education, and research. But what is tenure? Defined in the 1940 Statement of Academic Freedom and Tenure, tenure is first the freedom of teaching, research, and extramural activities, secondly, it is a sufficient degree of economic security to make the profession attractive to men and women of ability (American Association of UniversityProfessors, 1970). The process of defining tenurewas a collaborative effort of faculty, administrators, and educational committees. Originally drawn up in 1915 as the Declaration of Academics, the statement was in place until 1940 when a meeting of the American Association of University Professors(AAUP) and the Association of American Colleges agreed on a restatement to be known as the 1940 Statement of Academic Freedom and Tenure (American Association of University Professors, 1970). Additional changes were made to the document in 1970, but they retained the modified the name designated in 1940. Since tenure encompasses the freedom of teaching; an essential component to tenure is academic freedom. The 1940 Statement of Academic Freedom and Tenure (1970) states that considers academic freedom as: Teachers are entitled to full freedom in research and in the publication of the results, subject to the adequate performance of their other academic duties; but research for pecuniary return should be based upon an understanding with the ... Monkey is a classic 16th century Chinese folk tale novel that mixes allegory, history, and satire into a chaotic but however meaningful adventure. As a combination of being a picaresque novel and a fold tale epic, magical realism is evident and plays a big role in the story. The allegorical nature of the characters and the anti bureaucratic satire makes the novel more alluring and thus has made the story more enduring and popular. The novel serves as a dazzling combination of slapstick comedy, spiritual wisdom, and nonsense with profundity. Particularly interesting is the metamorphosis of the Monkey or the symbolism of the Stone Monkey. This character change is noteworthy and would be a focal aspect of the screenplay. In the end, accomplishing the mission of reaching the scrolls back to China, Tripitaka and his three disciples get escorted to heaven by the eight Vajraparis. They all get promoted by Buddha himself as Tripitaka is now Buddha of Precocious Merit, Monkey is made to Buddha Victorious in Strife, and Pigsy is the Cleanser of Altars. In the beginning the Monkey is carved out of stone symbolizing his lack of being apprehensive and belittling fear. Because of how he was brought to existence his careless and reckless nature was brought about by how he was born with no family, especially parents. Due to his recklessness and misbehavior in Heaven, Monkey had to be trapped under the Mountain of five elements. This is particularly interesting as this entrapment serves as symbolism of how Buddha is superior to man, and the need for the quest to enlightenment. However, a distinct change was evident as mentioned, But fortunately, when the time of your retribution was ended, you turned your heart to the Great faith and your endeavor to the ... • 14. Significance of Section 3 and 4 of the Human Rights Act 1998 The power to strike down Acts of Parliament is defined as the power to declare legislation invalid because it is unconstitutional. This paper will critically assess sections 3 and 4 of the HRA 1998 by defining them, reviewing case law surrounding their use, and by evaluating the powers that they give to the judiciary. By doing so, it will demonstrate that section 3 gives judges powers that are not significantly different from the power to strike down Acts of Parliament, whereas section 4 does not. Definitions Section 3 of the Human Rights Act (HRA) 1998 provides that primary and subordinate legislation must be read and given effect in a way which is compatible with Convention rights . This provides judges the power to interpret and amend legislation so far as it is possible so that it is in accordance with Convention rights. There is no need for ambiguity in wording of the act to use section 3 and it does not affect the validity of the Act notwithstanding the Act being incompatible with Convention rights. There are limits on judges ability to use section 3 which restrict cases in which it can be used. First, section 3 cannot go against the grain of the fundamental purpose of the legislation in question. Second, judges can only go so far as possible when interpreting legislation. The means that judges are restrained by the plain words of the provision and cannot stray from it s meaning so far as to completely amend it. Next, section 4 of the HRA 1998 provides that ... • 17. Obesity in Australian culture and society Obesity in Today s Australian Culture and Society Introduction Obesity is best referred to as the red alert health zone . The thing that makes obesity that dangerous is the fact that today s society does not view obesity as a serious threat. It is important to understand the fact that obesity is not just being fat or having a BMI i.e. Body Mass Index greater than that of an overweight person. Obesity is a serious problem that can fatally damage the physical as well as mental health of a person. While all of us understand how obesity can affect the physical health, a few of us know how mental health is affected due to obesity. A person suffering from obesity is termed as obese. Such a person is usually a victim of mockery and insult due to his appearance. No matter how educated we are we as a society have failed to keep in account the fact that obese people are also humans and deserve to be treated normally. The unequal treatment for the obese along with the comments consisting of insults and mockery combined together to form a state of mental instability in the obese person. This results in a higher rate of anxiety and depression in the obese. The severity of depression is sometimes so high that it results in suicide attempts. Obese people are generally viewed by the others as the annoyed people. The reason for that is the fact that due to the alienated treatment from the normal people, they are likely to have emotional instability which results in severe mood ... • 22. The Benefits Of The Disease Model Of Addiction To begin, I would like to discuss the benefits of the disease model for addiction. To be fair, this model resonates with me the most. As stated in the Historical Perspectives on Addiction, By changing the way we talk about addiction, we change the way people think about addiction, both of which are critical steps in getting past the social stigmatoo often associated with this disease (Freed, 2012, p.27). I feel that this quote sums up the most significant benefit of the disease model. Not only does it remove stigma, but by removing this stigma you could potentially have more individuals seeking treatment. In addition to this, by removing stigma you move it from an individual s problem into a public healthissue. Therefore, if addiction is a public health issue you would see more services/support systems available. A second benefit of the disease model is that there is evidence that supports the theory (Hall,2017). On the other hand, there are some negative aspects associated with this model. One criticism is the disease model may prevent them from developing self control, and damages self esteem (Frank, 2017, p.130). In my opinion, I do not agree with this statement because I believe that the disease model gives more power to individuals. Although, I do agree that the disease model does not explain the Large scale epidemiological studies show high percentages of spontaneous recovery, even without specific treatment (Frank, 2017, p.130). The tar sands are estimated to have enough oil to produce 1.7 2.5 trillion barrels of oil (Levant 4), and this large supply of oil has made Canada the #1 supplier of oil to America. The oil in Athabasca is originally Bitumen, which has a thick texture, almost like peanut butter, and plasters sand and minerals, which makes it very difficult to remove and produce. 80% of the oil is over 75 meters underneath the surface (Riebeek), and can only be removed by depositing hot water into the mine so that the oil can condense and be extracted. They both deal with databases and communications that companies need to consider. In this paper we are going to discuss some of the options that companies or self employed business owners can use. Scenario One Some of the typical fields that could be used would be of the booth equipment by piece, what equipment you will need by piece, what company is shipping the components and the expected arrival date and time. By having all of this information you will be able to use it as a checklist to ensure that you have all the required pieces and components for the trade ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The best database to use in this scenario would be a personal one. Since a personal database is used more for a small workgroup of fewer than 100 people and normally for fewer than 15 people would work the best, (Kroenke, 2012). The reason this would work the best is because that not everyone in the business work the trade shows so not everyone will need to have access to the database, this will ensure that nothing is inputted incorrectly or misused. A decisions support system would come in handy when deciding on which carrier to hire for the equipment and booth components. By having this system could help keep the cost low for shipping and if the carrier can be responsible you could use them all the time and refer them to other customers. By doing this it will help after the trade show is over and you get all the equipment back to your office in one piece and will not have to do extra paperwork for lost or damaged equipment. Scenario Two The business will only need a LAN. Since the business is small enough and in one geographic location a LAN will be able to support this business, (Kroenke, 2012). With the business having a LAN they can run the cables for it anywhere they want. • 34. The Cause Of The Triassic Jurassic Extinction Is High... Toxic Compounds Another theory that some proposed as the cause of the Triassic Jurassic mass extinction is high levels of toxic compounds released from volcanic activity. Directly around volcanic activity in the rift zone, there perhaps would have been high levels of Fluorine and Chlorine, both of which could have directly poisoned organisms. These large ejections of Chlorine and Fluorine could have led to ozone depletion and acid rain (McHone 2003). However, due to the fact that high levels of either of these compounds would have caused extinction without prejudice, the actual role that toxic compounds played during the Triassic Jurassic extinction is hard to predict and study (Hautmann 2012). Sea level Changes There is another theory proposed that posits that rapid sea level regression followed quickly by transgression caused the mass extinction, at least in the marine realm. According to Schoene and Geux (2010), Оґ18O values from fossil oysters suggest cool ocean temperatures immediately following the negative Оґ13C excursion followed by a period of warming. As shown in figure 2, during a time spanning approximately 300,000 years there was a positive carbon isotope anomaly (corresponding with a decrease in sea level along with cooling and glaciation) followed by a period of higher sea levels and a negative carbon isotope anomaly. • 41. Movie Trailer For Bad Moms I stumbled upon the Bad Moms movie trailer while looking for a piece of media, I chose this composition as it is funny as well as true. This movie trailer spoke to me in relation to this course as it shows realistic struggles women go through as a mother and the expectations they are expected to withhold. It demonstrates how women marginalize other women and how there are expectations of perfection that women are supposed to uphold and if they do they are not looked down upon. This movie trailer was produced by STX Entertainment and was broadcasted worldwide via the internet as well as on television. I crossed paths with this movie trailer on YouTube while searching for a good piece of media. Being broadcasted worldwide shows that the fact... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ideas that society has put in our minds is that a woman has to be slim, look perfect and always be ready for a photoshoot. All of the women in this movie trailer have a very similar body type, these women are all slim, tall and beautiful which shows that the movie industry has narrow vision. The beauty of the woman as objects and screen space coalesce; she is no longer the bearer of guilty but a perfect product, whose body, stylized and fragmented by close ups, is the content of the film and the direct recipient of the spectator s look, (Mulvey, 2006, p. 349). The idea of a women being able to stay fit as well as being on top of all the modern fashion trends, and looking perfect is very unrealistic. This is portrayed in the movie trailer when the one mother played by Mila Kunis is in a workout class or when her and her friends are having conversation in regards to her bra. When it comes to women s careers they are expected to wear appropriate clothing that portrays them as professional, this allows them to be respected in the workplace. The contemporary economy depends right now on the representation of women within the beauty myth, (Wolf,1991, p. 18). Society continues to push the ideology that all women have to be the same size and dress certain ways in the workplace through different methods of media including movie ... • 42. Recruitment And Selection Process Essay As the business world is ever changing, so is the process that companies use in selecting ideal candidates. The most common way for companies to start the process of filling an open position, is to create a job posting. Job postings are most commonly posted on popular online job websites, such as Glassdoor or Indeed. Many of the companies will also use software that will sift through the thousands of resumes received and select a group of candidates that it feels are ideal for the position. The company will then proceed to interview those candidates. With software that selects resumes based on keywords that are specific to the job, it only makes sense for candidates to tailor their resumes to maximize the opportunity to achieve that initial interview. By creating a variety of resumes and cover letters tailored to specific position openings, one increases his or her opportunity to receive an initial interview and getting hired. Developed and developing economies have caused a shift in the scope of business. As the world as a whole progress , jobs have become more demanding. In our knowledge based economy, value is the product of knowledge and information. Companies cannot generate profits without the ideas, skills, and talent of knowledge workers, and they have to bet on people not technologies, not factories, and certainly not capital (Martin Moldoveanu, 2003, pg. 36). More demanding job requirements have caused companies to only hire the best. Workers now require more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. In Vitro Fertilization Is Ethical Making someone else s baby Surrogate mothers carry another couple s child with her own eggs or fertilized eggs from other women. Surrogate motherhood is unethical and needs to be banned due to the fact that reproductive technologies are inhuman and a form of violence therefore, as surrogacy becomes more popular, legal problems proliferate. Reproductive technologies such as In Vitro Fertilization and surrogacyare a form of violence against women because they technologically ravage women s bodies. In Vitro Fertilization is a medical procedure that s done where an egg is fertilized by sperm in a test tube (Raymond 1). In one case a gay couple were able to purchase eggs for a surrogate mother for two newborns(Devine 1). Here is where commercial surrogacy causes the children to be at risk. There is no guarantee that pedophiles will not be able to buy and raise their victims, since there is a egg and sperm donor. No one with a physical link can protect the child due to lack of natural nurturing links put the child at a greater risk of abuse(Devine 1) . There are many questions from everyone, What if these people do not have the right intentions? How do we know the surrogate mother will take care of the baby until they are born? Questions that go through everyone s head all the time. If you have to worry about these questions or just be unsure of it then it should be illegal. people who are unsure about drugs, or a new medication they should take makes them double guess it. Most of the time if they have to double guess it, they do not do it. The ultimate horror of the 21st century science is that if you have enough money you can buy a helpless newborn baby and do whatever they liked to with it in the privacy of their own home. There is nothing nobody can do to stop it(Devine 2). Commercial surrogacy is not something people should not turn to when looking for a child for whatever reasons they may have. If people were to think about it, like they do not know the surrogate mother. The surrogate mother doesn t get a background check nor does the family getting the baby. So literally anyone with the money can get this child. They could possibly harm the child but yet no one will never know. At least with adoption agencies they look into families background and make sure they are fit to raise someone else s child. There has been some cases where famous people have turned to surrogacy such as Michael Jackson. The $250 million pop ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Remembering the Harlem Renaissance During the early 1920 s, African American artists, writers, musicians, and performers took part in a cultural movement known as the Harlem Renaissance. This migration took place after World War 1 and brought African Americans of all ages to the city of Harlem located in New York (Holt). There were many inspiring young artists; one of them in particular was Augusta Savage. Augusta Savage was born on February 29, 1892, in Green Cove Springs, Florida. Savage began making art at an early age using clay that she could find. She enjoyed making animals and other small objects yet her father, who was a Methodist minister, did not approve of her hobby. He did all that he could to stop her. Savage once said her father almost whipped all of the art out of me (Savage). Even though her father objected her hobby, she continued to make sculptures. The family moved to West Palm Beach, Florida in 1915. After this move Savage faced a new problem, a lack of clay. She eventually found some clay from a local potter and created a few figures that she entered in a county fair. Her work received a winning prize and the support of George Graham, the fair s organizer, who encouraged her to study art. Savaged moved to New York Cityin the 1920 s, but struggled financially throughout her life. She studied at the Cooper Union and she received a scholarship after her first year to help with living expenses. She exceled at the Union and finished in three years instead of the usual four. • 46. Queer As Folk Television has changed to include the LBGT community, but seldom do you see the Gay community with HIV shown on television. This chapter covers a study about Gay undergraduate males and the way it makes sense of HIV and its storyline on television. The study draws from the fictional television series Queer as Folk, one of the highest rated programs on cable television. First, the chapter begins by explaining the series Queer as Folk. This series is one wear lesbian and gaymen and women live their lives, work, have good and bad days. During this series they do not show HIV as a one time special occurrence, but as filtrated into the lives of the characters. During the series loved ones were lost, and they discussed prevention. One focus group member said having HIV was a deal breaker. The focus group revealed that on the series they rarely seen the happy side of a person live with HIV. Generally focus group members felt that shows like this help people understand that people living with HIV are living with one more thing to deal with instead of always being consumed with the possibility of death or illness (Dines and Humez). Ultimately, the focus group recognized though they were initially entertained, they could appreciate education of the aspects of gay culture including HIV awareness and prevention. The focus group had positive reviews of how the storylines are presented. I will admit this summary took me a little bit out of my comfort zone. I do realize there are all types of people in this world and we all deserve to be loved. I have never seen Queer as Folk personally, but from the chapter reading it is very ... • 47. Housing Bubble Case Study Why This Isn t a Housing Bubble Housing prices have been rising steadily, but rumors of a new housing bubble are tempering optimism. Many reports are suggesting that the current housing bubble is greater than the one that formed in 2006 and burst in 2008. But is there any truth to these dire predictions, or is it just media hype and speculation? Overvalued Homes Don t Equal an Impending Crash Compared to the first three months of 2015, twice as many metropolitan home markets are now considered overvalued. Overvalued here means that the prices are inflated compared to income. The media says prices are likely to come crashing down, yet experts say this isn t the case. Just because home prices are overvalued doesn t mean there s an impending ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At $236,000, the average sales price of a home in the United States is now above what it was in 2006. Prices in 14 of the 100 largest metropolitan markets in the country are now above their historical averages. Look a little deeper, however, and there are reasonable explanations for the spike in prices. Of the 14 metropolitan markets mentioned above, six are in Texas, which recently experienced a huge oil boom. Texas may serve as a microcosm for what s happening in the rest of the country. High Demand, Low Supply The most fundamental principle in economics is supply and demand. It just so happens that this very simple economic truth is the cause of the so called bubble; housing demand across the country is high, and supply is near record lows. Ten years ago, the bubble was caused by free, easy credit that led many people to take out mortgages they couldn t afford. This isn t the case today not at all. Recent mortgage regulations are now beginning to take effect, and lenders and borrowers are more informed and acting more responsibly. The Verdict? Don t let the dire predictions in the media get to you. Mortgage rates are nearly 5% lower than their historic averages, making it an excellent time to think about becoming a ...
