Theu.s. Justice Department And Jpmorgan Chase
It may not count as classic but it will count as epic in the history books when all is said and
done. I am referring to the negotiation between the U.S Justice Department and JPMorgan Chase.
The fines stem from illegal actions taken by JPMorgan Chase and by Washington Mutual (a bank
purchased by Chase in 2008) and Bears Stearns (purchased by Chase in 2008). The government
investigated so called toxic loans made by all these companies prior to the 2008 financial crisis.
They provided loans to people who could not afford them at high rates and then bundled them and
sold them to investors without disclosing the riskiness of the initial loans. The bank was being
investigated under the Financial Fraud Enforcement Task Force. This group... Show more content

The task force steering committee is made up of the Department of Justice, Department of the
Treasury, Department of Housing Urban Development (HUD), and the Securities and Exchange
Commission (SEC). The investigators would also work with local authorities to investigate and
prosecute significant financial crimes, ensure just and effective punishment for those who
perpetrate financial crimes, address discrimination in the lending and financial markets and
recover proceeds for victims. (Justice News, 2008). Leading the investigators in the JPMorgan
Chase case was U.S. Attorney Benjamin Wagner. The Vice Chairman of the taskforce steering
committee is Assistant Attorney General Anthony West. He was one of the lead negotiators for
the government in the Chase case. Multiple states Attorneys General offices took part as many
were involved in separate lawsuits in their respective states against Chase for their business
practices prior to the 2008 crises. After making multiple offers via their lawyers, Chase President
and CEO Jamie Dimon stepped in to the lead the negotiations on behalf of his company instead of
relying on outside agents or corporate lawyers to represent the company. The outcome was one of
the largest fines in history against a single entity by the government. In fact until less than a

Snow Day Research Paper
It s a cold, wintry day when the first flake falls. Everyone gets excited, but a lot of people don t
know much information about the fragile flakes that fall from the wintry sky. That information
includes: how the snowflakes form, their appearance, and the conditions of it snowing.
Before all else, most people may not know how the frozen flakes are formed. According to, Snow
Day! By Tabitha Walker, the process flakes of how the icy flakes are formed all starts when water
evaporates from the Earth and rises into the atmosphere. As the water reaches a certain level of the
atmosphere that is 32В° Fahrenheit, it freezes. These tiny droplets of frozen water are called ice
crystals. These ice crystals then form around a dust or dirt particles. Some of the larger
snowflakes can have up to 200 ice crystals. These few steps are what form the beautiful snowflakes
that fall from the sky on a harsh winter day.
Additionally, many people don t know what the snowflakes look like. Although they may all look
white as they fall from the sky, but if you look at them through a microscope, each and every one
of them have a rare and unique shape and design. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As you already know, the air has to be 32В° Fahrenheit at most in order for to snow, but did you

Unlike the air, the ground takes in more heat from the Sun, making them two completely different

stick, it will melt. There are several conditions for the bitterly cold snow to fall and stick to the

The Intervention Plan By Hofstede s Intervention Plan
The Intervention plan, written for the board of directors of Bank X, consists of two parts. The first
part includes a diagnosis of information which define the core issues that should be addressed, and
secondly provide a fitting intervention plan to guide Bank X into the right direction.
The board presented a set of problems, what we should solve, the most concerning are the lack of
loyalty among the employees and the lack of honesty of the Bank towards its environment. We used
two diagnostic approaches to reach the core of the problems Bank X faces, the Onion model
invented by Hofstede, which help us to understand the different layers of the culture in the bank and
the Behaviour approach model, which aims to present a clear summary of the behaviour of your
colleagues. The diagnosed core issue, the outcome of the analysis, is related to the organizational
culture of Bank X. This connection ultimately leads to the question: How can the management of
Bank X overcome these cultural oracles concerning their lack of loyalty, which mainly results
because of the high fluctuation, the high risk taking of the employees and their self interest and on
the other hand, the lack of honesty? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

В· How can the top management of Bank X create motivation amongst all the different types of

of employee contribution while contextual factors are addressed?

The Cause And Effects Of The Bystander Effects
When there is an emergency, why is taking out our phones to take a picture or video the very
first thing we want to do? Why do we casually walk by a person who is in trouble, and go about
our business as if we did not anyone? Why do we not help or act when someone is getting, but
instead we just stand in a crowd and watch? Why do we bury our moral instincts during
emergencies? We witness a problem, consider positive action, and respond by doing nothing. Why
do we not help in these situations and put our moral instincts in shackles (Keltner Marsh, 2017).
We as people are bystanders to the world around us daily, but the question is why? The answer to
all the why questions is the bystander effect.
The bystander effect is a social psychological scenario where a person who is in an urgent
situation is not given any help by the people around due to the discourage from the presence of
others (whatispsychology.biz, 2017). Social psychologists, John Darley and Bibb Latane,
introduced the bystander effect in the 1960s after the murder of Kitty Genovese, a young woman
who was stabbed to death outside her home in New York City. It took her attacker more than half
an hour to kill her, and during that time, thirty eight people saw her being murdered, and they did
nothing to help her. The responsibility for helping was diffused among the observers (Darley
Latane, 1968).
Psychologists state diffusion of responsibility is one of the main blames for the bystander effect

Once in power, the Americans discovered that Diem was unwilling to be a puppet ruler. He
persistently rejects their suggestion and settled on decisions that wonder the South Vietnamese
people. A couple tries were made to topple Diem yet regardless of the way that the Americans were
sad with his execution as president, they felt they had no genuine alternative but to support him.
In October, 1955, the South Vietnamese people were asked for that pick between Bo Dai, the past
Emperor of Vietnam, and Diem for the activity of the country. Colonel Edward Lansdale suggested
that Diem should give two vote papers, red for Diem and green for Bao Dai. Lansdale assumed that

The Purpose Of American History
American history is an imperative part of our nation. It allows the upcoming generations to
understand the successes and hardships the country has endured. How can the past become the
hope for our future? Before answering the complex question, we need to understand what is
history. History is not only a class, or a text book, but experiences, stories, and monuments. It is the
foundation for the present civilization. Each monument, or memorials are to teach, but also remind
younger generations of the fallen citizens, soldiers or public figures and show their sacrifices, and

The Ideas Of Einstein And Freud
Mr. Schneiders World History Kyndall Roberts Feb. 12, 2015 Section 1: Question 3: The ideas
of Einstein and Freud were revolutionary because of how they shaped faith of reasoning and
science. Einstein shook the ideas and laws that Isaac Newton had formerly created about motion
and gravity. In 1905, Albert Einstein came up with the theory of relativity, which stated that
although the speed of light is constant, other things like space and time are not. He believed
that speed and time can change when it is measured relatively to an object moving near the
speed of light about 186,000 miles/hour. These ideas had implications not only for science, but
for the world. There was uncertainty and relativity that replaced the sense of security that came
with Isaac Newton s laws. Einstein and Isaac s point of views were very different. Sigmund
Freud had ideas that were as revolutionary as Einstein s. Freud treated psychology patients. From
his experiences, he constructed a theory about the human mind. He came up with the idea that a
part of the human mind is irrational, but it is now called the unconscious. In the unconscious,
many drives existed, such as pleasure seeking drives that the conscious mind was unaware of.
Freud s ideas actually weakened faith in reasoning. By the 1920 s, Freud s ideas had developed
widespread influence. Question 4: Literature in the 1920 s was affected by World War 1. The
brutality of the war caused philosophers and writers to question ideas about

Rhetorical Analysis Of Charleston Hope
Rhetorical Analysis
In the view of Lloyd Blitzer, he explains what makes situations rhetorical that is identical to a
moral act . His definition of a moral act is when you act or preform by any situation. He shows
examples of different types of rhetorical analysis that happened in the past. Blitzer states that a
rhetorical analysis is a change in reality. Therefore, he is saying that it is an action or new
information that is to be addressed or known. He states that rhetorical analysis should be followed
by a rhetorical method. Blitzer mentioned that there are three main components when writing a
rhetorical analysis. One component to look for is referred to as exigence. Exigence is the reason
you are proving something. Audience is the part of a rhetorical analysis that involves people that
you are trying to get to understand your situation. Lloyd stated that everyone is being capable by
the change of speech. From my perspective, Blitzer s rhetorical audience consists only of people
who are more likely influenced by discourse and have the possibility of becoming mediators of
change. The final component is constraint. Constraint deals with limitation and restrictions in a
rhetorical analysis. Charleston Hope provides a great opportunity to become involved and assist with
its mission throughout the community.

The Bluest Eye Motor Mimicry Essay
Toni Morrison s novel the Bluest Eye shows the reader that motor mimicry contributes to a vicious
cycle of women diminishing their self worth. Through the comparison of Pecola and her mother

and self worth is entangled with how an individual is raised and their acceptance of societal norms.
Humans have an innate sense to interact with others and develop relationships. While observing
human interactions, people begin to mimic motor activity of others they admire. Motor mimicry is
described as adopting another s posture, imitation. This idea of imitation is a key to how individuals

3.4 Expected Water Usage
As shown in Figure 5, the average water usage for an Australian residence is around 166 L per day.
Therefore, placing Australia below the United States Of America.
Despite using less water than the USA, England set a better example as they were shown to use
less water by about a half of what Australians use on a daily basis, which is clearly shown in Figure
6. Hence, indicating that a change is needed and that it indeed is possible to use less water on a day

On the other hand, due to these statistics, a family of four who lives in Victoria will consume (166

What Is Josh Sounder Essay
Josh Bailey was drafted with the 9th pick in the 2008 NHL entry draft. Crazy to think that this
coming June, it will be 10 years since that moment. Looking back to that time, it wasn t exactly an
ideally situation. The islanders had the 5th overall pick going into that draft. They would trade
that to the leafs and swipe first round picks. The isles would move back to the 7th pick which was
then moved to Nashville and they would end up picking Bailey with the 9th overall pick.
10 years after there are still a lot of people who just don t like having Bailey on the team. A bunch
of different reasons behind that. The main reason is if you look back At the 2008 draft a lot big

A lot of people just wanted him gone from the team. Now he is the guy who people just can t
decide on. He is playing way to well to hate this season and it s time to consider him an elite and
valuable part of the New York Islanders.
Coming off a career season of 56 points, Bailey is off to a hot start in the 2017 2018 season.
Through 17 games, he currently has 18 points, which puts him on an 87 point pace for this season.
Last season, he was placed on a line with John Tavares and Andres Lee and that line worked
wonders. With the addition of Jordan Eberle this season, that bumped Bailey off the top line. After
about 7 games, coach Weight decided to put the line back together. Bailey, despite having a strong
start to the season, didn t miss a beat rejoining his line mates from last season.
It s also hard to not root for a guy who is such a good person off the ice. Just as @tomlofaso329

on and off the ice, and one of the nicest guys I ve had the pleasure of meeting. So, happy he s

the outcome of the game, no matter how his night was, Bailey was one of the few guys who

Depreciation is sometimes subdivided into three types: physical deterioration (wear and tear),
functional obsolescence (suboptimal design in light of current technologies or tastes), and
economic obsolescence (poor location or radically diminished demand for the product).
Estate in Fee Simple

I believe that the largest problem with FEMA and other emergency management agencies in the
United States is with its leadership. FEMA s leadership and direction fall upon the whim of the

Adam Eve Lost in Paradise
Paradise Lost by John Milton: Discuss the relationship between Adam and Eve, as portrayed in
Book 9 of Paradise Lost. How does Milton s portrayal compare to or differ from how Adam and
Eve are typically portrayed, described, or understood?
Thoughts of Eve conjure images of a meek woman who is submissive and created to serve her
husband. Adam is thought of as a strong, beautiful man created in the likeness of God. He is the
ruler of land and sea and leader of all mankind. Their relationship is thought of as idyllic and
unified, even throughout and after their fall. However, Milton casts a different light on their
relationship and personal traits in Book 9 of Paradise Lost.
Adam s submissive helpmate becomes an independent, contrary, ... Show more content on

Therefore, his love for her leads him to eat the fruit because if she is to die then he chooses to die
with her because as he says in line 959 to lose thee were to lose myself (2111).
Now that they both have sinned, the relationship becomes one of contention, contrary to the
traditional image. Sexually it is lustful and depraved lacking the love and intimacy they once
shared. Adam is no longer mild towards Eve, but accusatory and blaming even speaking harshly
too her which is opposite of how he treated her before the apple. She in turn retaliates against him
and tries to blame him for not being stronger. She even accuses of him of not being able to
withstand the temptation if it had been him. Sadly, what becomes of their relationship is a blame
game that is fruitless and controlled by pride with neither taking responsibility for their actions
(2116).
In the end of this book, Milton inserts an interesting point about the male/female relationship that
easily could be overlooked. He switches from Adam making a point about Eve, to generalizing
all women of which Eve is the representative. Adam talks of Eve s confidence and perfection and
how much he admired her, but realizes that is where he went wrong calling it his crime (2116).
Then he makes the shift towards women, which is craftily done by Milton, almost like a
forewarning to men to beware of the power of women in the following:
Thus it shall befall

The, 12 Angry Men, And Nasa s Challenger Disaster
Speak your mind even if your voice shakes , a quote made famous by Maggie Kuhn, is the
foundation of how I conduct my life. While the fundamentals of being an open minded, educated,
and well rounded individual involve considering the opinions of others and evaluating both sides
of the argument, too often people become complacent and lose the ability to think for themselves.
The common term that refers to this type of herd mentality is sheeple . The play, 12 Angry Men,
and NASA s Challenger disaster are two prime examples of the downfalls of groupthink. Below, I
will discuss both the helpful and harmful aspects of groupthink surrounding both 12 Angry Men,
and the Challenger disaster, as well as the effects of groupthink on today s voting young adults.
In the play, 12 Angry Men, the vote was 11 1 in favor of a guilty verdictin the case being tried. The
one juror stood his ground, explained his theory as to why a guilty verdict could not be delivered,
and was unwavering in his stance. The jurors went around the table twice, and ended with
everyone siding with the original juror. As the deliberations played out and jurors were questioned,
some jurors were not able to justify their guilty verdict, merely stating It just is . This statement
shows the effect of the groupthink mentality, especially since one juror was considerably vocal and
angered by the time being spent on deliberations. The logical discussions the other jurors had with
one another displayed a positive aspect

Throughout the entire novel Ally has held a secret symbolism with him. Even though he is dead

Philip K. Dick And The Minority Report By George Orwell
We can t be confined to one way of thinking, and that terrifies our leaders. It means we can t be
controlled. Veronica Roth.
Various representations of the future are envisioned by many, most of which present a dystopia
rather than a utopia. This is due to the advancements being made by the modern world that raise
concerns about security and especially privacy, leading text makers to predict the worst. The issue
is discussed in the texts The Minority Report by Philip K. Dick (1956), Steven Spielberg s Minority
Report (2002) and George Orwell s 1984 (1949). Through elements such as surveillance,
technology and excessive government control, Philip K. Dick, Steven Spielberg and George
Orwell create a bleak and dystopic vision of the future.
Through falsely accusing innocent people and heavy control, a near dystopic future is
exemplified in the novella, The Minority Report (TMR) by Philip K. Dick. The story is based
on pre crime which is foreseen by three precognitives which result in a supposedly crime free
society. However, it only becomes an illusion of peace by essentially taking in individuals who
have broken no law, (pg. 72.) therefore there s a moral dilemma for the accused are being
imprisoned based on the majority report. The report is an accumulation of the two most similar

Significance Of The Second Seminole War
In order to understand the significance of the Second Seminole War, one must first examine the
First Seminole War. Frustrated with Seminole protection of runaway slaves, Andrew Jackson and
more than three thousand men entered northern Florida in 1816 and began to decimate Seminole
populations. Despite most of these campaigns being unsanctioned by the United Statesgovernment
and protested by the British and the Spanish, Jackson was received as a war hero throughout the
nation. The Adam Onis Treaty of 1819 officially transfesrred ownership of Floridafrom Spain to the
United States (a major political victory for the United States at the time), and the deportation of the
Seminoles out of the newly acquired land became of the utmost importance in 1821.
After tensions between indigenous tribes and white settlers intensified, the United States
government approached the Seminoles in an attempt to begin the deportation process. The first
course of action was to not only quell the conflicts between the two parties in Florida, but to begin
to encroach on the Seminole land and force them into reservations. This would make it all the
easier when it came time to begin official removal of the Seminoles.
The Treaty of Moultrie Creek in 1823 stipulated that the Seminoles would surrender any land claims
within Florida in exchange for official protection by the United States, monetary funding, and a
large reservation located in central Florida. The location was designated far enough inland

Twelfth Night Malvolio Essay
For this character sketch essay, I will be talking about Malvolio. Malvolio is a steward of Olivia s

These kinds of images help me define the character. Puritans are kinds of people that no one in
the play, Twelfth Night, will like. This is evident in the quote, Marry, sir, sometimes he is a kind
of puritan , said by Maria in act II, scene III. This shows me that Malvolio cannot be friends much
with anyone with an appearance and behavior like a puritan. A steward is a person who is
employed on a large estate to oversee the other servants, manage domestic concerns and keep the
accounts. This helps me define that Malvolio has a big responsibility and position in Olivia s
household. Another image that would associate with Malvolio is a fool. This is evident because
he falls for the love letter prank and dresses like a fool in an indecent manner just to win Olivia s
heart. He also falls for the trick when Feste disguises as Sir Topas then back to Feste and Malvolio
is unaware of that. The word somber also associates with him because he is mostly grave
throughout the play. He rarely smiles until he finds out that Olivia loves him.
This is my character sketch of Malvolio and as you can see, he is very unique and nothing like
the other characters and has nothing in common with them. Although he is considered one of the
bad guys in the play, I feel like Malvolio is a man between good and bad. He tries to do what s right

Case Study Of Drosophila
Drosophila melanogaster: a case study of embryonic cell differentiation
Introduction: The study of Drosophila has brought great leaps of scientific research with it. As
unlikely a candidate they are, studies of Drosophila melanogaster have done much in the way of
proving theories, discovering genetically identifiable diseases and much more. Over the past three
decades, research on this species has lead researchers to question the developmental processes that
Drosophila experience (BГјrglin 2016). The embryonic development of Drosophila serves as an
important case study for developmental genetics, due to the analogous nature of their embryos cell
differentiation. Although Drosophila s development has very distinct variations when compared to
that of vertebrates, there is a commonality between the embryonic development of the nervous
system. The similarity between Drosophila and vertebrates gives reason to research the Homeobox
genes in order to better understand a multitude of species with homologous development. In
particular, the nervous development of Drosophila, could be used to investigate possible cures ...

`This paper is the final results of my internship ministry practicum II experiences reflection in my
church organization work settings and training. My experiences from different areas of exposure
sharpened my skills for my professional role of the Doctor of Ministry Program in the theological
field of counseling and teaching. My ministry practicum consists of direct involvements with hands
on, real life interactions under the supervision of my Supervisor, Chaplain Andrea Fletcher. This
Comprehensive Written Review analyzes the full spectrum of my observation and participation in
tasks from my Ministry Learning Agreement Form. The opportunity allowed me to view other
leaders in ministry exercising their gift and in turns ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Information from chapter one comprised of a summary of my assignments reports from the
various ministries served and class discussions post. Moving forward to chapter two talks more of
the vast amount of lessons learned through the five goals and the effectiveness of actual hands on
application: the practice of communication, pastoral spiritual care, the practice of leadership,
engaging diversity, and handling conflict. There were target events in each goal setting subject. For
example, in communication, my target events were in small groups, classes, writings of creative
activities curriculum, and counseling. In this process, my practice skills supported an audience of
women, youth both boys and girls, and children. The area of pastoral spiritual care involved Bible
studies, home visits, hospital and nursing homes visits, grieving family visits, and prison ministry
visits with the Children of Inmates Program. The practice of leadership comprises of attending
events, training, and assisting in various ministries in need. Engaging diversity involved observing
other ministry leaders engaging in a large church congregation, speaking at women s breakfast or
functions, speaking at funeral services, and assisting in the planning of funeral with family
members. Handling conflict dealt with counseling of premarital sessions, marriage counseling
sessions, counseling child abuse sessions, counseling drug addiction session, counseling depression
with childhood sexual abuse sessions and assisting with crisis individuals seeking assistance
through the resources at our church Peacemakers office. Consequently, chapter three describes the
most life changing events causing major setbacks in this journey of my calling and the solutions
involved. Chapter four detailed some specifics on the results of my self analysis test. Some of the
shared data comprised of personal

Right-To-Bear Arms
Right to Bear Arms
In 2013 states with gun restrictions had more shootings than states without any laws. The right for
U.S. citizens to bear arms is completely beneficial, and without their legality it would cause more
problems than it would solve. Owning a gun gives the owner a feeling of protection, and if your
attacker thinks you may be concealing a weapon they would definitely be less likely to rob you or
do anything in attempt to harm you. Banning guns entirely would have huge implications, which
would not be good for anyone. Without guns our safety would be at risk, and without that feeling of
protection it will be a weight that you constantly carry and will withhold your from true identity and
potential. Your right to bear arms should... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Laws, wrote that States with the largest increase in gun ownership also have the largest drops in
violent crimes. Criminals already are not concerned with what the law says, they will find a
weapon whether it is legal or not. Taking our right to personally carry would only increase
murder rates because people couldn t protect themselves and criminals would know that regular
people would not have a gun. 57% of people believe that owning a gun is a protection from the
possibility of being victimized. John Stossel, a journalist, says Criminals don t obey the law...

The Death Of The Frontier And Progressive Era Essay
Ragtime is full with a myriad number of characters, from Harry Houdini to Booker T Washington,
but the pivotal characters in my eyes were Mother and Father. There s something to be said when
the main characters of a novel don t even have names, unlike the many other minor characters, who
were major players in history. What makes them stand out even more is the fact that Mother and
Father weren t the only fictional characters, however, they as long as all of the members of their
family, including Little Girl who would join Mother s family at the end of the tale, were the only
ones who were not named. That s because it s an obvious way for Doctorow to use them as a
symbol for the typical middle class American family during the ProgressiveEra. However, this is
not the only role they had. In addition, the death of the Frontier and the birth of the Progressive
Era is shown in Ragtime through the developing relationship between Father and Mother who
represent the Frontier and Progressive Era respectively. The relationship they share is a unique
one and vital to the image Doctorow is trying to depict, the change occurring in time. There s a
reason Father and Mother, a married couple, were used in this way rather than another relationship,
and that is because an era does not erratically die, but rather the merging of new and old ideas
forms a marriagebetween the two eras before one is completed. Just like two time periods, Father
and Mother change positions. While Father grows

Gay Marriage And Same-Sex Marriage
To begin with, not until May 18, 1970 was the gay community involved within the legal system;
on May 18, 1970, they were two students from the University of Minnesota their names were
Richard Baker and Michael McConnell ( Bahn s, Angela J. and Nyla R. Branscomb ). They were
the first gay couple to ask for a Same Sex Marriagelicense. They were denied, accepted of the
marriage license base of their sexual orientation. Baker and McConnell sued the state for
discrimination; they went to the State Supreme Court and they lost (Bahn s, Angela J. and Nyla
R. Branscomb ). Their case is considered the Baker vs. Nelson case and it s been used in multiple
states as a way to block marriage equality ( Bahn s, Angela J. and Nyla R. Branscomb). To
continue, in 1983 the subject for equality first began with two gaycouple who were seeking
equality within Same Sex Marriage became a more intense subject ( Craig, Maureen A. and
Jennifer A. Richeson ). Karan Thompson and her lover Sharon were involved in a drunk driving
accident and Sharon suffered severe brain damage ( Craig, Maureen A. and Jennifer A. Richeson
). Karen Thompson wanted to be involved within her recovery; but Sharon parents denied her
access to her within the hospital and didn t allow her to have any input during her care. Karen
Thompson sued Sharon parents and won her case in 1991 ( Craig, Maureen A. and Jennifer A.
Richeson ). Furthermore, Karen Thompson is now considered to be major key spokesperson for

Limiting The Use Of Pesticides In Silent Spring By Rachel...
In the book, Silent Spring by Rachel Carson warns people about the use of insecticide. When
people use pesticide to kill insects it leads to problems because it would transfer from people to
animals. Carson shows us when the earth is contaminated with pollution, it is going to take
generation after generation to fix. When the chemicals were discovered to make pesticides it was
founded by an accident. People started to use pesticides to kill insects, but the pesticidestarted to
make people and animals to get sick or die. The pesticide would enter the body animals or people
and it would transfer to the offspring of the animals or human beings. According to Carson
pesticide would go to the water supply where people drink from and get sick or die. Carson
suggests that we should not stop using pesticide, but to limit our usage of pesticide. I agree with
Carson that we should limit the use of pesticides. People around the world she cut back on the
usage of pesticides because it hurts the health of human beings, animals, and water supply.... Show

Rachel Carson says, In Florida, two children found an empty bag and used it to repair a swing.
Shortly thereafter both of them died and three of their playmates became ill. The bag had once
contained an insecticide called parathion, one of the organic phosphates; tests established death
by parathion poisoning (28). In this quote, Rachel Carson shows us that two little kids die from
playing with an empty bag lying on a swing set. The pesticides were in the empty bag which
killed the two kids. Carson shows us that by just a bag can have the pesticide that can kill a person.
The usage of pesticide should be limited because is can harm the health of human

Four Unifying Principles
UNIFYING PRINCIPLES OF ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR AND MANAGEMENT
ABSTRACT Theories and models of organizational behavior and management continue to increase
in number and complexity. While much of the recent research has not made its way into standard
business textbooks, these textbooks nonetheless offer a broad array of topics and concepts that can
easily overwhelm both student and practitioner. No common thread appears to link these disparate
topics, despite the fact that variations on the same theory often can be found across topics. This
paper describes four underlying principles of organizational behavior and management that distill
and synthesize essential features of many of the established theories and models. Each principle ...

The concepts related to each principle can be viewed, alternatively, as dichotomous (a choice among
opposites), continuous (a point along a continuum), or paradoxical (a contradiction or dialectic to
be resolved), and applied in combination to interpret and circumscribe specific theories. Finally, the
implications of these underlying principles for teaching management and organizational behavior
as well as for conducting organizational and case analyses are discussed.
THE UNIFYING PRINCIPLES There are four unifying principles presented in this paper, each
principle represented by two contrasting concepts. The principles are briefly described below, and
the application of each principle to organizational behavior and management is illustrated through
several examples. The intent of these examples is to demonstrate the range of applications for each
principle, rather than to provide an exhaustive analysis. (A more complete set of applications is
available from the author.)
INDIVIDUAL VS. COLLECTIVE
Description of the Principle
Perhaps no concepts are more central to our understanding of organizations and management than
those of the individual versus the collective. In a generic sense, the term individual means singular,
solitary, one, alone, separate, while the term collective means many, multiple, together, gathered,
joint. In human terms, these two words represent the

Compare And Contrast The Rise And Fall Of The Han Dynasty
The Hans and The Romans were two of the strongest civilizations in the history of the world.
Although they were very strong, they still had to fall eventually. The fall of the Han Dynasty
happened around 220 CE, whereas The Roman Empire s fall happened around 476 CE. These
civilizations both went through times of peace throughout their reigns that allowed them to strive.
The Han Dynasty s time of peace was called The Golden Age, and it lasted much longer than
Rome s, which was called Pax Romana. The decline of these civilizations share a lot of
similarities, such as their internal and external factors. Although the causes of their falls were very
similar, there were still some aspects that were different, such as the effects of their... Show more

The biggest and most impactful external factor was disease. This happened to both civilizations
because of trade on The Silk Road. Foreigners helped spread measles and smallpox into their
empire s causing mass amounts of casualties, approximately в…“ to Вј of their civilizations. This
was huge because this affected trade, killing the economy, and also made it very hard to find and
recruit soldiers to participate in the military. Another major factor was the invasions of outside
groups. Both civilizations were invaded by some form of the Huns. Rome was invaded by the
Huns who were led by Attila, a very strong leader, but were mainly affected by Germanic
invasions, and The Han was invaded by the Xiongnu. Although neither Rome nor The Han s
actually fell from these invasions they were still both very impactful and were major reasons for
their falls. There were only a couple of external factors for the falls of the Roman Empire and The
Han Dynasty, but they were very impactful and devastating. Even though the Han Dynasty and
the Roman Empire had many similar causes that led to their falls, the effects were not similar at
all. One major difference in the falls was the fact that only half of the Roman Empire fell whereas
the whole Han Dynasty fell. The Han Dynasty would become decentralized because the whole
thing collapsed, and it would not become centralized again for approximately 350 years. This
differs from Rome because they became decentralized and never truly became

Brännvin literally means burnt wine and is analogous to the German Branntwein . The term is
also used in Norway, Denmark and Iceland. Afterwards Smith decided to switch the name to
Absolut Rent Bränvin (Absolutely Pure Vodka), in order to market his much improved product.
Smith challenged the city of Stockholm s liquor marketing monopoly with his superior vodka. It
was sold at a lower price than the monopoly s product, just outside the city border. Smith even
offered free boat rides to the distillery and Rent Bränvin made Smith a fortune. In 1917, the
alcohol industry in Sweden was monopolized by the Swedish government. Vodka was then sold
nationwide under the name Absolut Rent Brännvin . The name changed with intervals, Renat
Brännvin or Absolut Rent Brännvin. In 1979, the old name Absolut was picked up when the
upper price range Absolut Vodka was introduced.1 Until the 24th of July 2008 Absolut was owned
by V S Group, which was owned by the Swedish government. That day the Government took the
decision to sell the company to Pernod Ricard.

Comparison of Harry Potter and Jane Eyre
Harry Potter and Jane Eyre are two novel characters who have quite a lot of similarities. In their
early childhood, both were raised as orphans, both experienced cruelty and unkind treatment from

away from the people who treated them harshly, and both of them had a life changing experience in
their respective schools. Both Harry Potterand Jane Eyre grew up and lived with their relatives.

The life of Harry Potter changed when he was finally introduced to his true identity, a wizard, and
had to attend school at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. As for Jane, she
eventually had the chance to be away from the Reeds and study at Lowood Institution, a school
for orphaned girls. School was both tough and pleasant for Harry and Jane. Both had instant
friends and instant enemies. Attending school is perhaps a taste of normalcy in their lives,
except that their past still haunted and defined their characters. Harry was known at school as
the boy who lived having survived the attack of a notorious wizard (Rowling 18); while Jane had
to carry with her the rude description that her aunt made of her which is deceitful which resulted
in her being labeled as liar. As a result, both Harry and Jane had to face the difficulty of trying to
fit in and at times, had to bear the bitter consequences. Hard as it may seem, Harry and Jane
managed to get through the most difficult phases at school and eventually found solace and
comfort in the company of their true friends. Harry Potter discovers true friendships at Hogwarts
through Ron Weasly and Hermione Granger. They protect and defend each other oftentimes with
the help of Hagrid, a staff member at Hogwarts who had grown fond of them and protects Harry in
so many ways. Jane Eyre, on the other hand,

United States And The Open Skies Agreements Essay
The United States has numerous Open Skies agreements with most countries around the globe. The
agreements allow foreign airlines to fly to the U.S. with few, if any, restrictions from the U.S.
government and U.S. carriers to fly to foreign countries, also with little or no government
restrictions. However, many of the U.S. carriers, such as Delta, American, and United, believe that
the Open Skies agreements have some major loopholes, allowing the few subsidized airlines, such
as Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Etihad, to fly to the United States, as well as numerous other
countries across the globe, at lower operating costs than their non subsidized competition have to
pay for the same route. These agreements also allow the practice of fifth freedom operations. Fifth
freedom operations permit one airlineto fly from their home country to another participating
country, drop off and pick up passengers, fly to a second participating country and then fly the
whole route in reverse. These routes are known as fifth freedom routes. Since they oppose the idea
of fifth freedom routes, Delta, American, and United [the U.S. Three] all want the U.S.
government to limit the number of flights these Persian Gulf carriers can operate to the U.S.
because they believe that they are losing revenue and customers to this group, known as the
Middle East Three. One popular discussion topic is the idea of fifth freedom routes. Ted Reed, a
contributor to Forbes magazine, explains to the

Antarctic environment
Introduction:
The name Antartica comes from a greek word which means the opposite of north. Antarctica is the
southernmost continent and is known for having cold and windy conditions. It is the fifth largest
continent out of seven other continents in the world and the area of Antarctica is 14,000,000 km2
and around 90% of it is covered in ice.
The conditions in Antartica (min, max, average temps and wind, water and food availability) and
how these conditions would affect animal survival
The environment conditions in Antarctica is very harsh, it is known for being the most coldest
and windiest continent in the world as 98% of it is covered in ice which is 4.7 kilometres thick.
Antarctica is considered a desert due to the fact that it barely rains and how dry it is around the
continent. The weather temperature in Antarctica can go as low as 89.6 degrees celsius and a
high of 12.3 degrees celsius with an average temperature of 49 degrees celsius. This is because
of the height above sea levels, the atmosphere and the land masses around Antarctica which is
why the continent is an extremely cold place. In Antarctica the strong winds that are caused is due
to the strong winds which are the katabatic winds. The cold and dry katabatic wind is caused by
the downslope gravity flow which is formed by the cold air. The highest wind velocity in

Using PCR and Gel Electrophoresis to Determine Genotype In certain situations, it is necessary
to identify DNA retreived from a sample. When there is a small sample in need of identification,
Polymerase Chain Reactions are used to multiply the DNA in the sample in to many identical
samples. The DNA retrieved from the reaction can then be imported into an aparatus using gel

This process results in exact coppies of DNA molecules. The amplified samples of DNA were
placed into the gel electrophoresis aparatus where we were able to see if the sample of DNA
was heterozygous or homozygous. It is important for us to be able to replicate and examine
DNA. In the event of violent crimes, small samples such as hair, skin, seamen, blood, or urine
can give investigators a sort of genetic fingerprint of the criminal. The first step in employing
the methods discussed above to replicate and investigate DNA was to obtain a sample. Our
samples were obtained by plucking hair from students in our class. The root of the hair was
isolated and placed into a small microfuge tube. The tube with the hair root was then incubated in
100 ul of digestion buffer containing 6ug of proteinase K for one hour at 55В°C then for ten
minuets at 95В°C using the thermocycler in the lab room. When the DNA extraction was
cooled, the tubes were vortexed for thirty seconds. After that a new microfuge tube was set up by
adding 15.0ul of the extracted DNA and 10.0ul of the reaction muxture. The reaction mixture
contained 4.0ul of H2O, 2.50 ul of 10x PCR buffer without Mg, 1.25ul of DMSO and 20x dNTP

I am referring to the negotiation between the U.S Justice Department and JPMorgan Chase. The fines stem from illegal actions taken by JPMorgan Chase and by Washington Mutual (a bank purchased by Chase in 2008) and Bears Stearns (purchased by Chase in 2008). The government investigated so called toxic loans made by all these companies prior to the 2008 financial crisis. They provided loans to people who could not afford them at high rates and then bundled them and sold them to investors without disclosing the riskiness of the initial loans. The bank was being investigated under the Financial Fraud Enforcement Task Force. This group... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Justice News, 2008). Leading the investigators in the JPMorgan Chase case was U.S. Attorney Benjamin Wagner. The Vice Chairman of the taskforce steering committee is Assistant Attorney General Anthony West. He was one of the lead negotiators for the government in the Chase case. Multiple states Attorneys General offices took part as many were involved in separate lawsuits in their respective states against Chase for their business practices prior to the 2008 crises. After making multiple offers via their lawyers, Chase President and CEO Jamie Dimon stepped in to the lead the negotiations on behalf of his company instead of relying on outside agents or corporate lawyers to represent the company. The outcome was one of the largest fines in history against a single entity by the government. In fact until less than a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first part includes a diagnosis of information which define the core issues that should be addressed, and secondly provide a fitting intervention plan to guide Bank X into the right direction. The board presented a set of problems, what we should solve, the most concerning are the lack of loyalty among the employees and the lack of honesty of the Bank towards its environment. We used two diagnostic approaches to reach the core of the problems Bank X faces, the Onion model invented by Hofstede, which help us to understand the different layers of the culture in the bank and the Behaviour approach model, which aims to present a clear summary of the behaviour of your colleagues. The diagnosed core issue, the outcome of the analysis, is related to the organizational culture of Bank X. • 5. The Cause And Effects Of The Bystander Effects When there is an emergency, why is taking out our phones to take a picture or video the very first thing we want to do? Why do we casually walk by a person who is in trouble, and go about our business as if we did not anyone? Why do we not help or act when someone is getting, but instead we just stand in a crowd and watch? Why do we bury our moral instincts during emergencies? We witness a problem, consider positive action, and respond by doing nothing. Why do we not help in these situations and put our moral instincts in shackles (Keltner Marsh, 2017). We as people are bystanders to the world around us daily, but the question is why? The answer to all the why questions is the bystander effect. The bystander effect is a social psychological scenario where a person who is in an urgent situation is not given any help by the people around due to the discourage from the presence of others (whatispsychology.biz, 2017). Social psychologists, John Darley and Bibb Latane, introduced the bystander effect in the 1960s after the murder of Kitty Genovese, a young woman who was stabbed to death outside her home in New York City. It took her attacker more than half an hour to kill her, and during that time, thirty eight people saw her being murdered, and they did nothing to help her. The responsibility for helping was diffused among the observers (Darley Latane, 1968). Psychologists state diffusion of responsibility is one of the main blames for the bystander effect being ... • 11. The Ideas Of Einstein And Freud Mr. Schneiders World History Kyndall Roberts Feb. 12, 2015 Section 1: Question 3: The ideas of Einstein and Freud were revolutionary because of how they shaped faith of reasoning and science. Einstein shook the ideas and laws that Isaac Newton had formerly created about motion and gravity. In 1905, Albert Einstein came up with the theory of relativity, which stated that although the speed of light is constant, other things like space and time are not. He believed that speed and time can change when it is measured relatively to an object moving near the speed of light about 186,000 miles/hour. These ideas had implications not only for science, but for the world. There was uncertainty and relativity that replaced the sense of security that came with Isaac Newton s laws. Einstein and Isaac s point of views were very different. Sigmund Freud had ideas that were as revolutionary as Einstein s. Freud treated psychology patients. From his experiences, he constructed a theory about the human mind. He came up with the idea that a part of the human mind is irrational, but it is now called the unconscious. In the unconscious, many drives existed, such as pleasure seeking drives that the conscious mind was unaware of. Freud s ideas actually weakened faith in reasoning. By the 1920 s, Freud s ideas had developed widespread influence. Question 4: Literature in the 1920 s was affected by World War 1. His definition of a moral act is when you act or preform by any situation. He shows examples of different types of rhetorical analysis that happened in the past. Blitzer states that a rhetorical analysis is a change in reality. Therefore, he is saying that it is an action or new information that is to be addressed or known. He states that rhetorical analysis should be followed by a rhetorical method. Blitzer mentioned that there are three main components when writing a rhetorical analysis. One component to look for is referred to as exigence. Exigence is the reason you are proving something. Audience is the part of a rhetorical analysis that involves people that you are trying to get to understand your situation. Lloyd stated that everyone is being capable by the change of speech. From my perspective, Blitzer s rhetorical audience consists only of people who are more likely influenced by discourse and have the possibility of becoming mediators of change. The final component is constraint. Constraint deals with limitation and restrictions in a rhetorical analysis. How does Milton s portrayal compare to or differ from how Adam and Eve are typically portrayed, described, or understood? Thoughts of Eve conjure images of a meek woman who is submissive and created to serve her husband. Adam is thought of as a strong, beautiful man created in the likeness of God. He is the ruler of land and sea and leader of all mankind. Their relationship is thought of as idyllic and unified, even throughout and after their fall. Therefore, his love for her leads him to eat the fruit because if she is to die then he chooses to die with her because as he says in line 959 to lose thee were to lose myself (2111). Now that they both have sinned, the relationship becomes one of contention, contrary to the traditional image. Sexually it is lustful and depraved lacking the love and intimacy they once shared. Adam is no longer mild towards Eve, but accusatory and blaming even speaking harshly too her which is opposite of how he treated her before the apple. She in turn retaliates against him and tries to blame him for not being stronger. She even accuses of him of not being able to withstand the temptation if it had been him. Sadly, what becomes of their relationship is a blame game that is fruitless and controlled by pride with neither taking responsibility for their actions (2116). In the end of this book, Milton inserts an interesting point about the male/female relationship that easily could be overlooked. He switches from Adam making a point about Eve, to generalizing all women of which Eve is the representative. Adam talks of Eve s confidence and perfection and how much he admired her, but realizes that is where he went wrong calling it his crime (2116). Then he makes the shift towards women, which is craftily done by Milton, almost like a forewarning to men to beware of the power of women in the following: Thus it shall befall Him who to ... While the fundamentals of being an open minded, educated, and well rounded individual involve considering the opinions of others and evaluating both sides of the argument, too often people become complacent and lose the ability to think for themselves. The common term that refers to this type of herd mentality is sheeple . The play, 12 Angry Men, and NASA s Challenger disaster are two prime examples of the downfalls of groupthink. Below, I will discuss both the helpful and harmful aspects of groupthink surrounding both 12 Angry Men, and the Challenger disaster, as well as the effects of groupthink on today s voting young adults. In the play, 12 Angry Men, the vote was 11 1 in favor of a guilty verdictin the case being tried. The one juror stood his ground, explained his theory as to why a guilty verdict could not be delivered, and was unwavering in his stance. The jurors went around the table twice, and ended with everyone siding with the original juror. As the deliberations played out and jurors were questioned, some jurors were not able to justify their guilty verdict, merely stating It just is . This statement shows the effect of the groupthink mentality, especially since one juror was considerably vocal and angered by the time being spent on deliberations. Various representations of the future are envisioned by many, most of which present a dystopia rather than a utopia. This is due to the advancements being made by the modern world that raise concerns about security and especially privacy, leading text makers to predict the worst. The issue is discussed in the texts The Minority Report by Philip K. Dick (1956), Steven Spielberg s Minority Report (2002) and George Orwell s 1984 (1949). Through elements such as surveillance, technology and excessive government control, Philip K. Dick, Steven Spielberg and George Orwell create a bleak and dystopic vision of the future. Through falsely accusing innocent people and heavy control, a near dystopic future is exemplified in the novella, The Minority Report (TMR) by Philip K. Dick. • 36. Significance Of The Second Seminole War In order to understand the significance of the Second Seminole War, one must first examine the First Seminole War. Frustrated with Seminole protection of runaway slaves, Andrew Jackson and more than three thousand men entered northern Florida in 1816 and began to decimate Seminole populations. Despite most of these campaigns being unsanctioned by the United Statesgovernment and protested by the British and the Spanish, Jackson was received as a war hero throughout the nation. The Adam Onis Treaty of 1819 officially transfesrred ownership of Floridafrom Spain to the United States (a major political victory for the United States at the time), and the deportation of the Seminoles out of the newly acquired land became of the utmost importance in 1821. After tensions between indigenous tribes and white settlers intensified, the United States government approached the Seminoles in an attempt to begin the deportation process. The first course of action was to not only quell the conflicts between the two parties in Florida, but to begin to encroach on the Seminole land and force them into reservations. This would make it all the easier when it came time to begin official removal of the Seminoles. A steward is a person who is employed on a large estate to oversee the other servants, manage domestic concerns and keep the accounts. This helps me define that Malvolio has a big responsibility and position in Olivia s household. Another image that would associate with Malvolio is a fool. As unlikely a candidate they are, studies of Drosophila melanogaster have done much in the way of proving theories, discovering genetically identifiable diseases and much more. Over the past three decades, research on this species has lead researchers to question the developmental processes that Drosophila experience (BГјrglin 2016). The embryonic development of Drosophila serves as an important case study for developmental genetics, due to the analogous nature of their embryos cell differentiation. Although Drosophila s development has very distinct variations when compared to that of vertebrates, there is a commonality between the embryonic development of the nervous system. The similarity between Drosophila and vertebrates gives reason to research the Homeobox genes in order to better understand a multitude of species with homologous development. In particular, the nervous development of Drosophila, could be used to investigate possible cures ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is done by crossing oed with a predetermined phenotype in order to track the expressivity of the mutant gene. For this cross, we need a marker with one dominant gene along each observed chromosome. In our experiment, we used Cy/Sb from the Discriminant cross1 progeny, as the two phenotypes belong to two different chromosomes and the phenotypes of the genes do not express on eyes or ommatidia, allowing for clear expression for oed. For this cross, we crossed the Cy/Sb mutant with oed, and WT, and as a test cross, we crossed the F1 progeny of oed X WT from discriminant cross 1. Because of these statistics I believe that ghost are real. More like spirits, ghost are something that can walk through walls. Ghosts are not real science proves it, common sense, even proves it because why can they throw things and still walk through walls! I believe that ghosts are not real, but spirits are. The facts about spirits proves that spirits could be real. Many people have seen ghosts, and or spirits. If so, can people tell when the ghost is gone and when it has left the earth and finished its task or do people still think its there? in my opinion they are not real, but spirits are, a spirit is something that is just here. After some people die they don t know where to go or what to do. When you die, some people linger while they figure out where to go and what to do. So they stay here, the only reason they can stay is because after you die all the energy leaves your body making you a spirit. The right for U.S. citizens to bear arms is completely beneficial, and without their legality it would cause more problems than it would solve. Owning a gun gives the owner a feeling of protection, and if your attacker thinks you may be concealing a weapon they would definitely be less likely to rob you or do anything in attempt to harm you. Banning guns entirely would have huge implications, which would not be good for anyone. • 44. The Death Of The Frontier And Progressive Era Essay Ragtime is full with a myriad number of characters, from Harry Houdini to Booker T Washington, but the pivotal characters in my eyes were Mother and Father. There s something to be said when the main characters of a novel don t even have names, unlike the many other minor characters, who were major players in history. What makes them stand out even more is the fact that Mother and Father weren t the only fictional characters, however, they as long as all of the members of their family, including Little Girl who would join Mother s family at the end of the tale, were the only ones who were not named. That s because it s an obvious way for Doctorow to use them as a symbol for the typical middle class American family during the ProgressiveEra. However, this is not the only role they had. In addition, the death of the Frontier and the birth of the Progressive Era is shown in Ragtime through the developing relationship between Father and Mother who represent the Frontier and Progressive Era respectively. The relationship they share is a unique one and vital to the image Doctorow is trying to depict, the change occurring in time. There s a reason Father and Mother, a married couple, were used in this way rather than another relationship, and that is because an era does not erratically die, but rather the merging of new and old ideas forms a marriagebetween the two eras before one is completed. Just like two time periods, Father and Mother change positions. While Father grows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When people use pesticide to kill insects it leads to problems because it would transfer from people to animals. Carson shows us when the earth is contaminated with pollution, it is going to take generation after generation to fix. When the chemicals were discovered to make pesticides it was founded by an accident. People started to use pesticides to kill insects, but the pesticidestarted to make people and animals to get sick or die. The pesticide would enter the body animals or people and it would transfer to the offspring of the animals or human beings. According to Carson pesticide would go to the water supply where people drink from and get sick or die. Carson suggests that we should not stop using pesticide, but to limit our usage of pesticide. Four Unifying Principles UNIFYING PRINCIPLES OF ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR AND MANAGEMENT ABSTRACT Theories and models of organizational behavior and management continue to increase in number and complexity. While much of the recent research has not made its way into standard business textbooks, these textbooks nonetheless offer a broad array of topics and concepts that can easily overwhelm both student and practitioner. No common thread appears to link these disparate topics, despite the fact that variations on the same theory often can be found across topics. This paper describes four underlying principles of organizational behavior and management that distill and synthesize essential features of many of the established theories and models. Each principle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The concepts related to each principle can be viewed, alternatively, as dichotomous (a choice among opposites), continuous (a point along a continuum), or paradoxical (a contradiction or dialectic to be resolved), and applied in combination to interpret and circumscribe specific theories. Finally, the implications of these underlying principles for teaching management and organizational behavior as well as for conducting organizational and case analyses are discussed. THE UNIFYING PRINCIPLES There are four unifying principles presented in this paper, each principle represented by two contrasting concepts. The principles are briefly described below, and the application of each principle to organizational behavior and management is illustrated through several examples. The intent of these examples is to demonstrate the range of applications for each principle, rather than to provide an exhaustive analysis. The agreements allow foreign airlines to fly to the U.S. with few, if any, restrictions from the U.S. government and U.S. carriers to fly to foreign countries, also with little or no government restrictions. However, many of the U.S. carriers, such as Delta, American, and United, believe that the Open Skies agreements have some major loopholes, allowing the few subsidized airlines, such as Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Etihad, to fly to the United States, as well as numerous other countries across the globe, at lower operating costs than their non subsidized competition have to pay for the same route. These agreements also allow the practice of fifth freedom operations.
