Vladimir Propp s The Morphology Of The Folktale
Please play chess with me , was the first message I sent her, pretending to be tame by requesting
permission. Later, I moved on to trying to boost her ego, deploying a strategy similar to that of
Odysseus when he tells Antinous, you re hardly the worst Achaean here, it seems. The noblest one, in
fact. You look like a king to me. (XVII, 458 460) I told her, everyone who goes to your school is smart
and I know that you are great at chess . My plan was to uplift her confidence so that she gives the
information that I desire. However, Alice caught on to what I was planning to do and retaliated. You re

The friendship I had with Alice was like what Joseph Campbell refers to in his Hero s Journey as The
Belly of the Whale . I felt like I was isolated from everybody else and when I finally escaped the belly,
I noticed a change in my world. Between the time of my defeat and the time of analysis, I always
thought that Alice was the one to blame for everything that happened in the finale of our friendship,
but the truth is, it was all my fault for being such an ignorant fool. I had always wished that Alice had
not said what she said, but after seeing how I was wrong, I m actually glad that she said it. Even
though her last words felt like they tore my genitals out for the dogs to eat raw (XXII, 503), I
eventually grew newer, stronger genitals that would hopefully be more difficult to tear

Asian History in Canada Essays
Asian History in Canada
Around the mid 19th to early 20th centuries, British Columbia was in a period of economic explosion.
Those who were willing to work hard could find many opportunities. At this time, gold was found in
British Columbia and Canada became dependent on workers to finish making the transcontinental
railway. Many lumbering, coal mining and fishing business were not experiencing enough growth to
match the needs of the society. This portrayed Canada as a place of opportunity and settlement for
Asians whose homelands were becoming overcrowded. Sadly, the early pioneer years were extremely

Their historical arrival marked the establishment of a continuous Chinese community in Canada.
While the Fraser Gold Rush is the one that drew Chinese north, it was during the Cariboo Gold Rush
that the first Chinese community, called The Hong Shun Tang, was established in Canada in the gold
mining town of Barkerville. In the 1860s, Barkerville was a booming town. Thousands of prospectors
came to the town, many of them from the U.S. At the peak of the gold rush, there were as many as
5,000 Chinese living in Barkerville. Unfortunately, the Chinese were not allowed to prospect in areas
other than abandoned sites. This was due to discrimination towards Asians at that time. On account of
this fact, the Chinese did not make the same fortunes as the whites did. Nonetheless, the Chinese still
managed to find a way to thrive as a community. They provided many services to as many as 20,000
prospectors that came into the Barkerville region in the 1860s. Between 1860 and 1870, besides
mining, Chinese pioneers also worked on many other projects in British Columbia and Vancouver
Island. Some of the jobs included the erection of telegraph poles, the construction of the 607
kilometers Caribou Wagon Road and the digging of canals and reclaiming of wastelands. The Chinese
were major contributors to the development of Canadian society, but were never recognized as such.
Even while facing many daily hardships, they did

Winter Tires Must be Required in the Winter
By: Richard
Have you ever been in a car in the winter and your parent yells Hold on! . Slipping on black ice is a
driver s worst nightmare. The car could slip off the road, go to the opposite side, spin, flip, roll, or
even worse. That would be deadly. The good news is there is something called winter tires and it could
save your life. Life saving, winter tires must be required because they make your ride safer, they help
create a more relaxing ride, and they are not expensive. Winter tires are a very good idea for winter
driving, it will help a lot.
Winter tires ultimately increase the safety of the drive. The rubber is a special type of rubber that will
not harden (5 Facts About Winter Tires and Why You Need Them). Soft rubber means better traction.
This is essential to brake and grip the road better. A car with winter tires will brake 30% faster than a
car with all seasons. In fact, most accidents in the winter could have been avoided if the driver was

The Internal Combustion Engine
1 Introduction
Since the advent of the internal combustion engine nearly two centuries ago, humans have become
increasingly reliant on fuel to power these engines. Our only method, historically, for obtaining this
fuel is to probe the earth and oceans until crude oil is struck. Crude oil is termed a fossil fuel as it
takes hundreds of millions of years to form. Crude oil is extracted from a geological reservoir and
subsequently refined into the various fuels which we use at ever increasing rates (petroleum, diesel,
aviation fuel etc). Unfortunately we are not finding new oil deposits at anything like the rates we are
consuming, so logically we will eventually run out. Many of the alternate energy sources currently
available (electric engines, fuel cells and ethanol) have low energy density and do not scale well to
larger vehicles like aeroplanes and trucks. Therefore finding new renewable sources of energy to
power our current and future devices is paramount to our continuation as a successful species.
This project focuses on the prokaryotic enzyme, diacylglycerol acyltransferase 1 DGAT1 (not to be
confused with eukaryotic DGA1P a protein which provides the same function but is very different in
sequence and structure). This enzyme is encoded by the atf1 gene in Rhodococcus opacus PD630.
DGAT is important because it catalyses the final, rate limiting step, in the Kennedy pathway. This step

Nursing is evolving throughout the years, with new studies and research, we as nurses must take it
upon ourselves to not limit our fixated view towards to what we have been accustomed to. As future
leaders, nurses practice compassion and uniqueness of every individual (2012). The world around us
has changed particularly the rise in issues concerning gender. We have learned growing up that the
term sex was either male or female with no regard to gender identity. Gender is what one person
identifies as being either masculine or feminine (2012). The realization to become knowledgeable and

emotional and educational aspect of my passion in promoting awareness of transgender issues. Future
leaders have to be educated and spoken to about the issues we face in the trans community. Health
care for this particular group has vaguely been studied. Growing up in Hawai i, the Hawaiian culture

The Stages Of Bereavement
Introduction
Understanding that the stages of bereavement varies from person to person is important, so one does
not feel they are grieving inappropriately. It is also important to have a general idea of what one can
expect when experiencing a loss. It seems that often people think that everyone should only grieve for
certain amount of times, or something is wrong with them, when in fact, no matter the length of time,
or degree, it is normal. In 1969, Elisabeth Kubler Ross created the stage perspective, which discusses
the five stages of bereavement and what each stage could entail. This is so important in understanding
the process of bereavement and the reason people act the way they do when losing a loved one.

Despite the slight difference between the two words, bereavement and grief go together, and in this
paper, those terms will be interchanged. There are five stage of grief that I intend to discuss in detail.
Kubler Ross stage perspective held that dying people go through five stages of grieving: denial, anger,
bargaining, depression, and finally, acceptance. (Stroebe, 2017, p. 457). Denial is not believing that it
is happening. Anger could be at one s self, a higher power, or just the situation in general. Bargaining
is when one says if their situation goes away, they will change themselves. For example, one might
say if their illness is cured, they will never drink alcohol

Descriptive Essay About Waffle House
Every Friday my coworker, Kayleigh, and I always go and eat at Waffle House. It became a tradition
and my aunt works there so it s a welcoming environment. Usually after eating dinner we will go to
Walmart where we always end up spending money. Going out every Friday gives us time to just relax

shirts on. Sometimes people will recognize us from work and start conversations about the
campground. I am honestly not a very outgoing person, so I try to avoid these conversations as much

strange feeling knowing that we were wearing these yellow, plain T shirts. We continued walking and
went towards the makeup section, the section where I spend all my money. When turning down the
first aisle, I managed to make weird eye contact with this man that had on a Denny s uniform and had
several tattoos. I never thought anything about it until I seen him again shortly after leaving the
makeup section. I informed Kayleigh about the man and that he was still behind us. Trying to ignore
it, we went to the grocery side because who doesn t love buying snacks to stash at work. We went
straight to the chip aisle first to grab some Cheetos. As we began to leave this aisle, Kayleigh pointed
out that he was walking past which made me want to leave right then. By this point I was starting to
feel as if I was petrified. Why would this man be following us around the store and not be saying
anything? I spotted one of my friends and that was the perfect opportunity to show this man that we

Examples Of My Home Culture
Has my home culture prepared me for work life culture?
Power tools are the use of coercion, threats, punishment, and any other means necessary to achieve

dependable, integrity, and perseverance. Being dependable is a great trait for my work life culture. It
was established through a series of constant responsibility placed on me by my parents. My eldest

Cave Paintings Essay
Creating art is one of the single defining factors that set humans apart from animal species. Through
art, humans are able to express their innermost ideas and feelings, without having the difficulty of
trying to find the correct words to accurately describe their thought processes. Works of art can help us
to understand the people who have come before us. This is evidenced by the knowledge humans have
discovered of prehistoric men and their symbolic cave paintings. The expression, style, and meaning
vary and archaeologists put in much effort to uncover these works. The first evidence of cave art
appeared in Western Europe (Berenguer 67). Early cave paintings were characteristic of Western art.

It is often found to be extremely animalistic. The animals most commonly depicted are horses, deer,
reindeer, bison, ipex, aurochs, woolly rhinoceroses, and mammoths. Sometimes lions and bears are
also created, but rarely fish or birds. Humans were also commonly represented (Berenguer 73).
Prehistoric men also created abstract designs that have proven hard to identify. They are referred to as
signs and a special nomenclature has been developed to better understand their meaning. Tectiforms
are generally quadrangular shapes, with crossing vertical lines inside forming a trellis or mesh design.
Tectiforms often appear near naturalistic figures of animals. Scutiforms have been thought to represent
the female vulva. They are formed by red patches, often in the form of a comma or a key. Other types
of signs are penniforms, ramiforms, and claviforms. The exact meanings of most of these signs remain
unknown (Berenguer 82). The French scholar Leroi Gourhan formed a theory regarding the
animalistic and abstract art representations. He believed all depictions revolved around the law of sex,
noting that the philosophy of the prehistoric men concentrated all explanations on sex and sexual
relations. Cave art depictions of animals are divided into male and female. The male animals are
horses, she goats, and deer. Bison, bovidae, and mammoths are female. The signs are also divided into
gender categories. Triangles, rectangles, ramiforms, tectiforms, and scutiforms are

There is nothing that can stop wisdom. When you discover this power, you will become an
unstoppable threat to the kingdom of satan. Ecclesiastes Chapter nine mentions a king who entered a
small city and took total control of it, and kept the people in bondage by building snares around it. The
people lived under his communistic views and no one dared to confront him. However, in that city
there was found a poor wise man (Ecclesiastes 9:15), who was fed up and tired of abuse and tired of
living like a slave of men. He had no money, no influence, no connections with other kings, nor was
he trained to battle, yet he possessed one thing called wisdom. With his wisdom he took that city out
of the control of this king and he delivered it. The bible

Technetium-99m Research Paper
Technetium 99m (99mTc) is the radiopharmaceutical used for pulmonary perfusion imaging (Leden,
E. 1990). It localizes by the mechanism of capillary blockade. In general, less than 1 in 1000 ( 0.1%)
of the capillaries are blocked. In the absence of shunts, 95% of the particles are removed from the
circulation on the first pass through the pulmonary capillary bed. About 5% of particles measure less
than 5 μm in diameter and pass through the capillary system. For purposes of pulmonary perfusion
imaging, it is important to use a sufficient number of particles to allow for good statistical distribution.
In general, injection of a minimum of 100,000 particles and optimally between 200,000 and 600,000
particles is required (Leden, E. 1990). The half life of 99mTc after injection into the body is 6 hours.
This allows researchers to put these nuclei to use. Nuclei of technetium 99 emit gamma rays with a
characteristic energy of 140 keV (Leden, E. 1990). This property makes them highly desirable in
medicine, as gamma rays are absorbed far from the examined organ, minimizing the danger posed to
living matter. Production of 99mTc entails aggregation of human serum albumin using heat and a
reducing agent to form the particles. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Family As A Social Institution
In order for society to meet the basic social needs of its members, social institutions, which are not
buildings, or an organization or even people, but a system whose of social norms, mores and folkways
that help make people feel important. Social institutions, according to our textbook, is defined as a
fundamental component of this organization in which individuals, occupying defined statues, are
regulated by social norms, public opinion, law and religion (Amato 2004, p.961). Social institutions
are meant to meet people s basic needs and enable the society to survive. Because social institutions
prescribe socially accepted beliefs, values, attitudes and behaviors, they exert considerable social
control over individuals. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The definition historically is people related by blood, marriage, or adoption . The U.S. Census defines
family as a group of people united by the ties of marriage, blood, or adoption and constituting a single
household . William Goode, a sociologist who did research on family life, marriage and divorce,
defines family as at least 2 adult persons of opposite sex who reside together, have division of labor,
engage in economic and social exchange, share many things in common, have parental relations with
their children and the children have sibling relations .
Sociologist William F. Ogburn argues that the industrialization and urbanization of society has
stripped the family of many of the traditional functions. Due to this factor alone, the family s role has
been diminished to something strictly psychological, and that is to socialize children, and to provide
emotional support for family members. Talcott Parsons defined the family as serving a basic function
for society at large that included sexual behavior norms and values. There is a growing opinion that
social and civic agencies are taking over parental responsibilities due to two income families, a burst
in technology over the past forty years and single parent homes. The old days of neighbors visiting

The Rise Of Digital Banking
The Rise of Digital Banking
People s life style has changed drastically from 20 to 30 years ago where on the street corner you can
pick a fruit or some newspaper or magazine. The living pace is faster than ever and it is not stopping
every single day. Nowadays on the subway underground to air flight 10,000 feet above the ground,
pedestrians walking down the street to drives at red light stop, the small screen on that smart cellphone
has changed the way of living for everyone. Technology innovations may be a big part of it but also it
has given the wings for traditional service industry to keep up with modern lives needs. As the blood
of modern economic system, financial industry has also utilized the IT technology to help itself
running through each tubes of this system faster than ever. That is the rise of digital banking.
In the old days, people go to bank branches in order to either make a deposit or a withdrawn to their
accounts. From 14th century in Venice, Italy to 1970s in New York, United States, banking seems to
the same as it never changes. There is no other options if you don t want to have your own house full
of cash open for thieves and robbers. But with digital currency and online banking system, those days
have long gone for younger generations only with pictures shown on the history books. Starting from

Honesty Quotes In Othello
In act 1 Othello says to Iago My life upon her faith! Honest Iago, / My Desdemona must I leave to
thee (1.3.297 8). One could argue this sentence is the essence of the whole play. First looking at my
life upon her faith . Throughout the whole play, Iago is able to corrupt Othello s faith in Desdemona,
pretty easily. Iago really gives Othello no solid proof in regard to Desdemona s infidelity. Yet Othello
is so quick to believe him. This line continues with Othello having Iago s wife, Emilia, attend to
Desdemona. And while Emilia comes to the realization of her mistakes in the end, she plays a pretty
major role in Desdemona death. In the final scene, when Othello is accusing Desdemona of giving
Cassio the handkerchief, the only reason he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Honest Iago is said all throughout the play. Shakespeare is poking fun for he is anything but honest.
He is the puppet master in this production who s only agenda, it seems, is to cause Othello as much
pain as possible. Iago defiantly gets his wish, but as a cost. One of the first examples of Iago not being
very honest is in 2.2.20 30. Here we see Iago coaxing Cassio into having a drink, even though Cassio
has a drinking problem. Iago: Well, happiness to their sheets! Come, lieutenant, I/ have a stoup of
wine, and here without are a brace / of Cyprus gallants that would fain have a measure to / the health
of black Othello. / Cassio: Not tonight, good Iago. I have very poor and unhappy brains for drinking. I
could well wish courtesy would invent some other custom of entertainment/ Iago: Oh, they are our
friends. But one cup. I ll drink for you. (2.2.20 4). But this is just the beginning of Iago s deceptions.
As mentioned before, Othello leaves Desdemona s life in Iago s manipulative hands, and Othello puts
more stock into Iago s words than his wife s. Throughout the whole play, Honest Iago and fragile
Othello feed into each other, with poor Desdemona and Cassio the innocent causalities. Emilia too,
while not as innocent, still perishes at Honest Iago s doing. If 1.2.297 8 didn t happen, maybe
Desdemona and Othello could have lived happily ever, but a las it

What will happen then in the future or into a few more years where the disorder of sexes will may be
so dramatic that for every man twelve women will be shared? Then what? Polygamy will maybe not

men. Another point that the author exposed is the circumstances where the wives are sick and the
husbands can t manage it or where wives are unable to have children while the husband very much
wants them . This argument represents a more logical thought, although not entirely correct in my
opinion and own personal believes. I just can t still understand why it is necessary to go get another
partner just for the benefit of a baby, when you could solve it renting a belly without resorting to
commitments with other woman. But even if it happens or not, I think that the choices of a couple are
personal choices and if the wife agrees then is her own personal choice. The other point that exposes
is the cases where a marriage has not been very successful and the husband loves another woman. The
author also express some things about when a husband need to divorce from the first wife to be with
the second wife, but the first wife doesn t want to be divorce for the secure of the marriage, for herself
and their children . Before starting to explain anything else I do think is quite understandable the
worry that a wife could have for the economical and physical securities

Political Parties During Americ The Great Rights That...
Sam Rosen
Mr. Greenberg

16 October 2015
Political Parties in America Voting is one of the great rights that every American citizen is entitled to.
It gives Americans the chance to voice their pleasure, or displeasure, with those who represent them in
public office by selecting who they believe best represents their values and beliefs. But who organizes
the candidates? What are they affiliated with? The answer is political parties. A political party is an
organization of people who share the same views about the way power should be used in a country or
a society . It is typically accepted that political parties in america serve four functions. The first being
that they selected candidates who best represent them to run for office. The second is they mobilize
voters and convince these voters to vote for their selected candidates. Third, they facilitate governance
by bringing some sort of order to the process of lawmaking. And finally fourth, they monitor the
opposing party whenever they are in power. (Shmoop, Role of Political Parties ) In america s fine
democracy, there are two major political parties that represent two ends of the political spectrum, The
Democrats and The Republicans. The typical american voter can be starch supporter of one, or fall
somewhere in between. Although the Democratic party and the Republican party have competing
values, they share more in common than most people think and are a pivotal pillar of American
Democracy.

Essay Pro Euthanasia
When someone is inevitably dying and in inexplicable pain is it really a crime to grant their wishes
and end their suffering? As of right now euthanasia is illegal in many countries and is a very
controversial topic. Is it compassion for the patient helping them in ending their life or murder? The
doctor is not giving death as an option, it is the patients choice and even where it is legal there are
many rules. Euthanasia should not be considered a crime because the patient is not being murdered;
they are having their suffering end in a painless, humane way out of compassion for the patient and
their family.
Euthanasia is defined by the World Book Millennium 2000 encyclopaedia as, the practise of painlessly

The reason to legalize euthanasia is clear, these people need to have the choice to die with dignity.
Dr. Jack Kevorkian more commonly known as Dr. Death is greatly known for his opinion that
euthanasia should be legalized and his work with patients seeking help. He was very important in
showing euthanasia and voicing his opinion on the subject so the public could not ignore the
importance of the matter. Dr. Kevorkian was said to have been involved with 130 suicides by patients
who wanted to end their own lives (Nicol and Wylie 17). He had two machines he used to help the
patients, one an injection and the other a mask, however both machines were operated by the patient
and although Dr. Kevorkian was taken to court many times for these he was not convicted because the
patient was in control. He was very careful as to not actually commit the act himself until he was
contacted by Thomas Youk, a young with Lou Gheric s disease; Lou Gheric s disease is when the
muscle stop working and eventually the patient chokes to death. Tom s condition prevented him from
actually operating the machines and therefore Dr. Kevorkian decided that he would operate the
machine himself because he cared greatly about all his patients and could not let Tom live in his
constant fear (Nicol and Wylie 11). Dr. Kevorkian taped Tom s wishes and then himself hooking up
the machine and pushing the button to inject the drugs. He then proceed to

Crime Statistics Comparison
Comparison of Crime Statistics
Crime statistics endeavour to provide statistical measures of crime in societies. They provide a point
of analysis and comparison, allow countries to form long term patterns and trends and can help to
develop and reform criminal justice policies as well as being more meaningful than raw numbers.
Using the countries of Bahrain and the United States as a comparison point for the following issues
which surround crime statistics such as biases, agendas and general influences like education and
religion; this essay will be focused around analysing the statistical factors and wider influences which
can allow a country to have low or high crime rates.

Wider Influences:
Bahrain is a country which operates on all levels in relation to the teachings of the Qur an. This makes
up the fabric of life for the Bahraini people, the influence of the Islamic religion can be seen in the
economic, political and social pathways of life within the culture of the country. In Bahrain, religion is
the most important structure. The Islamic religion opposes wrongdoing in all its forms and that any
wrongdoing can lead to the downfall of society. The teachings of the Prophet attempt to get rid of all
forms of crime before it happens by influencing the individuals who follow the religion. Acts against
the law therefore is not only a crime against society in the eyes of Bahraini people it is also a violation
of the principles of God. In Bahrain there are even moral police officers who regulate the dress and
public behaviour of citizens (Helal, 1991). As the Qur an provides the basis for society, it also
provides the base for which laws are made. All laws however have major influence from the Western
cultures, apart from marriage, divorce and succession which all fall under the Shari ah. (Souryal,
1988)Therefore religion is a major influence

Cholesterol And Levels Of Cholesterol Essay
Introduction: In the United States, more than 2,100 people die from cardiovascular disease each day.
According to the American Heart Association, too much cholesterol in a person s blood can lead to a
heart disease and stroke (1). Cholesterol is the most common sterol in animal. Plants also have sterols
in their structure, however human enzyme systems can only digest animal sterols (2). Cholesterol is
produced in our bodies by the liver (endogenous) or could come from the foods we eat (exogenous).
Both kinds are transported to and from the cells by lipoproteins: LDL and HDL. LDL cholesterol is
considered to be the bad cholesterol, since it contributes in depositing plaque in the arteries, therefore
contributing to atherosclerosis. HDL, on the other hand, is considered to be the good cholesterol since
it has the opposite effect; it removes the LDL cholesterol from the arteries carrying it back to the liver,
therefore reducing risks of atherosclerosis. Maintaining the low levels of LDL and high levels of HDL
is extremely important, as HDL is responsible for moving the cholesterol from the blood to the liver
whereas LDL is the reason for the build up inside the artery therefore increasing the risk of the
cardiovascular diseases. In order to assess cholesterol levels in the body, blood serum cholesterol is
tested. It is recommended that total cholesterol (TC) level in an individual to be less than 200 mg/dl
(desirable level). The level between 200 239 mg/dl is

A Small Place by Jamaica Kincaid, she describes Antigua as a place of prioritizing the foreigners and
the white people. Regrettably, the country has been designed to become a tourist attraction over the
years, causing the author s sense of Antigua to dissipate over time (pp.23). Kincaid s perception of
Antigua can be summed up by the unrepaired library, the past social and cultural interaction of the
Antiguans (pp. 42 43). To the tourist, the ruin library is possibly just another damage structure;

Analysis Of Denzel Washington s The Best Actor Of All...
One of the most talked about actors today is Denzel Washington, and considered one of the most
engaging men of our time. So we can all agree on the fact that he s the best actor of all time, right ?!
Denzel Washington told a reporter who talked with him for a article that What individuals expound on
me is the thing that they are, and they think I am I am who I am, a dark man, said Washington. He is a
dark man with nobility and intellect . A dark man who declines to agree with injustice , a black man
who fails at times, however stands up and starts once more. That gives him such a great amount of
acknowledgment in the reality of film making. Washington explained in 1990 to a journalist who
addressed him about his race, I am exceptionally pleased to be dark, however dark is not all I am.
(Denzel Washington His Film and Career)
In spite of the fact that Denzel came from a broken family, his life does not reflect any hint of his past
because of the fact that he is a good father and husband. Great speaker and exceptionally exquisite are
some of words certain individuals use when discussing him. As a devotee of films, I think Washington
has a picture of a performing artist who actuates individuals to expound on his life and conduct. That
is the reason I picked him for my paper since he is a model to imitate. He is the one among those
performing artists who don t let Hollywood degenerate them.

Byzantium and Sassanid Empire
In the early start of the post classical era two empires existed that were among the first wave of post
classical empires. They were the Byzantine Empire and the Persian Sassanid Empire. They Byzantine
Empire was known to be a continuation of the Roman Empire that lasted for one thousand years.
Although this sounds like an achievement the one thousand year Byzantine Empire was not as great as
it is expected to be. The Sassanid Empire that lied just east of the Byzantine Empire, or in present day
Iran was also a continuation of previous Persian Empires. During the post classical era in Eurasia the
Byzantine s and the Sassanid s were two empires that shared similarities and differences in their
political institutions, social structures, dependence on trade and their economy, and in their declination
during the seventh century Common Era. The Byzantines were a post classical representation of the
Romans while the Sassanid s were a continued empire from late Persian Dynasties, and both of these
continuation empires were comparable in political structure, social structure, and their declination.
The political institution of Byzantium was similar to Political institution since both were centralized
states, however both were not completely the same since the Byzantine s copied the Romans and the
Persians copied the previous dynasties of Persia. The Byzantine Empire and the Persian Empire did
not differ too much in their social structure, both mainly represented a model for

The Persistence Of Ancient Symbols From Neolithic And...
1. Introduction This dissertation examines the persistence of ancient symbols from Neolithic and
Pictish eras and the ways in which they reappear in Scottish art. The discussion takes the form of a
hypothetical exhibition which brings together examples of art from many periods and in a variety of
formats. Rugoff (2006, p.46) states exhibitions need to ask interesting questions, even unanswerable
questions, instead of handing us tidy answers . By bringing together cultural artefacts and works of art
in one venue this exhibition raises questions about how objects come to be defined as art and whether
our definitions depend on the context within which an object is viewed. The thesis of the exhibition

exhibition include works widely separated by great periods of time, and works which have been
altered by succeeding generations. For millennia the oldest works were simply there , and part of
folklore. From the eighteenth century they began to be viewed as being of antiquarian interest; later
they were taken into the care of professional organisations, and later still they began to be considered

Presenting them in an artistic context, it demonstrates that our definitions of what constitutes art are

Does Janie Should Be Diagnosed As Asperger s Syndrome Essay

According to the extensive amount of information provided in this case study about 6 year old Janie, I

Asperger s syndrome is one of four pervasive developmental disorders (PDD) that all fall under the
Autistic spectrum. (Dombeck, 2008).ASD is a neural development disorder that is rarely diagnosed

Asperger s. Janie displays a number of symptoms that are specifically common to ASD. One of the
main symptoms being that Janie shows delays in motor developments such as walking and toilet

some cases, above intelligence. (Silberman, 2001).This discovery of cases with children having

Inception, the Movie
Inception Inception is not only a film that uses unique cinematography techniques but also tells a story
with a big concept that one can t comprehend right away. The concept of dreams and how one dream
can effect another dream is a risky topic to discuss due being the endless possibilities and complexities
it can have. The director of Inception was none other than Christopher Nolan, as shown by the obvious
concept of noir and conceptual thought that is in many of his films. Together with his partner in crime,
Walter Pfister, a well known cinematographer; the two work together to create an incredible motion
picture.
According to the text, every good movie has two major ingredients. The two ingredients are none
other than a good script, and a directors inspiration, vision, intelligence, and supervision of all aspects
of the film s production (Barsam 483). Inception is no exception to this rule at all. Inception uses a
unique familiarity technique in modern cinema of alienating and shocking the audience throughout the
film. The audience members are thrown in the middle of a scene right from the start of the film with

There is also a trend towards whole bean specialty coffee. During the 1990 s, the ground coffee
industry was stagnant; slowly declining sales. On the other hand, the whole bean market has grown by
8% annually since 1990. A survey suggests that 36% of coffee drinkers purchased whole bean coffee
because they believed that roasting at home would give a fresher, better taste.
Another factor decreasing our market share is the international market. Although we are increasing in

The s Perspective On Alcohol Abuse
Bruffee s Perspective on Alcohol Abuse Bruffee was unsuccessful in grabbing my attention because
his persuasive ways were weak and ineffective. I find his persuasiveness to be imprecise with no
correlation between binge drinking and loneliness. For instance, his claims are supported based on
personal experiences and personal observations such as students having difficulty making a new group
of friends, being desperate to belong and creating an academic background. Unlike Weschler, Bruffee
does not use scientific studies, real examples and realistic solutions to adequately connect binge
drinkers and introverts; therefore, Bruffee is less successful because he failed to support many of his
claims, and his conclusion is incomplete. First of all, there is some credibility in his article trying to
capture the reader interest in why binge drinking is an issue on college campuses, in which he
provides statistic reports with cause and effect. However, credibility gets lost when he uses himself as
an example of why students join fraternities. Bruffee says that one of the reasons he joined was
because he felt desperate to belong. In addition, Bruffee also implies that Fitting in motivates
freshmen students to join fraternities and sororities which leads them to binge drinking. In my own
perspective, his claims are lacking support and based on assumptions of his own experience that
comes off as vague and inaccurate; most of the students would not join a fraternity just because

useful information such as the fact that the Colonists had the Native Americans work for them and in
result of that the Colonists ended up with fluxes. Well Byrd is also self absorbed, thinking himself to
be of higher intelligence than everyone else.

  • 2. Vladimir Propp s The Morphology Of The Folktale Please play chess with me , was the first message I sent her, pretending to be tame by requesting permission. Later, I moved on to trying to boost her ego, deploying a strategy similar to that of Odysseus when he tells Antinous, you re hardly the worst Achaean here, it seems. The noblest one, in fact. You look like a king to me. (XVII, 458 460) I told her, everyone who goes to your school is smart and I know that you are great at chess . My plan was to uplift her confidence so that she gives the information that I desire. However, Alice caught on to what I was planning to do and retaliated. You re so adorable! And pretty too! You are like the most beautiful person ever! , she replied. This was funny until she spoiled my plan when she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The friendship I had with Alice was like what Joseph Campbell refers to in his Hero s Journey as The Belly of the Whale . I felt like I was isolated from everybody else and when I finally escaped the belly, I noticed a change in my world. Between the time of my defeat and the time of analysis, I always thought that Alice was the one to blame for everything that happened in the finale of our friendship, but the truth is, it was all my fault for being such an ignorant fool. I had always wished that Alice had not said what she said, but after seeing how I was wrong, I m actually glad that she said it. Even though her last words felt like they tore my genitals out for the dogs to eat raw (XXII, 503), I eventually grew newer, stronger genitals that would hopefully be more difficult to tear ... Those who were willing to work hard could find many opportunities. At this time, gold was found in British Columbia and Canada became dependent on workers to finish making the transcontinental railway. Many lumbering, coal mining and fishing business were not experiencing enough growth to match the needs of the society. This portrayed Canada as a place of opportunity and settlement for Asians whose homelands were becoming overcrowded. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Their historical arrival marked the establishment of a continuous Chinese community in Canada. While the Fraser Gold Rush is the one that drew Chinese north, it was during the Cariboo Gold Rush that the first Chinese community, called The Hong Shun Tang, was established in Canada in the gold mining town of Barkerville. In the 1860s, Barkerville was a booming town. Thousands of prospectors came to the town, many of them from the U.S. At the peak of the gold rush, there were as many as 5,000 Chinese living in Barkerville. Unfortunately, the Chinese were not allowed to prospect in areas other than abandoned sites. This was due to discrimination towards Asians at that time. On account of this fact, the Chinese did not make the same fortunes as the whites did. Nonetheless, the Chinese still managed to find a way to thrive as a community. They provided many services to as many as 20,000 prospectors that came into the Barkerville region in the 1860s. Between 1860 and 1870, besides mining, Chinese pioneers also worked on many other projects in British Columbia and Vancouver Island. Some of the jobs included the erection of telegraph poles, the construction of the 607 kilometers Caribou Wagon Road and the digging of canals and reclaiming of wastelands. The Chinese were major contributors to the development of Canadian society, but were never recognized as such. Even while facing many daily hardships, they did ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Internal Combustion Engine 1 Introduction Since the advent of the internal combustion engine nearly two centuries ago, humans have become increasingly reliant on fuel to power these engines. Our only method, historically, for obtaining this fuel is to probe the earth and oceans until crude oil is struck. Crude oil is termed a fossil fuel as it takes hundreds of millions of years to form. Crude oil is extracted from a geological reservoir and subsequently refined into the various fuels which we use at ever increasing rates (petroleum, diesel, aviation fuel etc). Unfortunately we are not finding new oil deposits at anything like the rates we are consuming, so logically we will eventually run out. Many of the alternate energy sources currently available (electric engines, fuel cells and ethanol) have low energy density and do not scale well to larger vehicles like aeroplanes and trucks. Therefore finding new renewable sources of energy to power our current and future devices is paramount to our continuation as a successful species. This project focuses on the prokaryotic enzyme, diacylglycerol acyltransferase 1 DGAT1 (not to be confused with eukaryotic DGA1P a protein which provides the same function but is very different in sequence and structure). This enzyme is encoded by the atf1 gene in Rhodococcus opacus PD630. DGAT is important because it catalyses the final, rate limiting step, in the Kennedy pathway. This step is the transfer of an acyl group from acyl CoA to diacylglycerol, creating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Impact Of Gender Diversity On Leadership Impact of Gender Diversity on Leadership and Management Kaylin Wayne Wagan Hawaii Pacific University Nursing is evolving throughout the years, with new studies and research, we as nurses must take it upon ourselves to not limit our fixated view towards to what we have been accustomed to. As future leaders, nurses practice compassion and uniqueness of every individual (2012). The world around us has changed particularly the rise in issues concerning gender. We have learned growing up that the term sex was either male or female with no regard to gender identity. Gender is what one person identifies as being either masculine or feminine (2012). The realization to become knowledgeable and sensitive is shown by the growing numbers from the National Center for Transgender Equality, which reported an estimated 115,000 to 450,000 transgender adults ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Growing up, she has always known that something inside her was very different and it took a lot to realize what she truly was. The first semester of nursing school, we were told that we must know ourselves for who we really are, in order to provide quality nursing care. This article hits both the emotional and educational aspect of my passion in promoting awareness of transgender issues. Future leaders have to be educated and spoken to about the issues we face in the trans community. Health care for this particular group has vaguely been studied. Growing up in Hawai i, the Hawaiian culture has always valued the third sex. The third sex, embodies both the hina (female) and ku (male) which are the spirits within us. • 8. The Stages Of Bereavement Introduction Understanding that the stages of bereavement varies from person to person is important, so one does not feel they are grieving inappropriately. It is also important to have a general idea of what one can expect when experiencing a loss. It seems that often people think that everyone should only grieve for certain amount of times, or something is wrong with them, when in fact, no matter the length of time, or degree, it is normal. In 1969, Elisabeth Kubler Ross created the stage perspective, which discusses the five stages of bereavement and what each stage could entail. This is so important in understanding the process of bereavement and the reason people act the way they do when losing a loved one. Stages of Bereavement Rafael, 1983, Noted ... Denial is not believing that it is happening. Anger could be at one s self, a higher power, or just the situation in general. It became a tradition and my aunt works there so it s a welcoming environment. Usually after eating dinner we will go to Walmart where we always end up spending money. Going out every Friday gives us time to just relax and gossip after work. Since we are going right after work, we always have our hideous, yellow KOA shirts on. Sometimes people will recognize us from work and start conversations about the campground. I am honestly not a very outgoing person, so I try to avoid these conversations as much as possible. After finding a place to park in the Walmart parking lot, we headed in to see what was lying ahead of us. Directly after entering the store, a strange man complemented our work shirts. This set off a strange feeling knowing that we were wearing these yellow, plain T shirts. We continued walking and went towards the makeup section, the section where I spend all my money. When turning down the first aisle, I managed to make weird eye contact with this man that had on a Denny s uniform and had several tattoos. I never thought anything about it until I seen him again shortly after leaving the makeup section. I informed Kayleigh about the man and that he was still behind us. Trying to ignore it, we went to the grocery side because who doesn t love buying snacks to stash at work. We went straight to the chip aisle first to grab some Cheetos. Through art, humans are able to express their innermost ideas and feelings, without having the difficulty of trying to find the correct words to accurately describe their thought processes. The animals most commonly depicted are horses, deer, reindeer, bison, ipex, aurochs, woolly rhinoceroses, and mammoths. Sometimes lions and bears are also created, but rarely fish or birds. Humans were also commonly represented (Berenguer 73). Prehistoric men also created abstract designs that have proven hard to identify. They are referred to as signs and a special nomenclature has been developed to better understand their meaning. Tectiforms are generally quadrangular shapes, with crossing vertical lines inside forming a trellis or mesh design. Tectiforms often appear near naturalistic figures of animals. Scutiforms have been thought to represent the female vulva. They are formed by red patches, often in the form of a comma or a key. Other types of signs are penniforms, ramiforms, and claviforms. The exact meanings of most of these signs remain unknown (Berenguer 82). The French scholar Leroi Gourhan formed a theory regarding the animalistic and abstract art representations. He believed all depictions revolved around the law of sex, noting that the philosophy of the prehistoric men concentrated all explanations on sex and sexual relations. Cave art depictions of animals are divided into male and female. The male animals are horses, she goats, and deer. Bison, bovidae, and mammoths are female. In general, less than 1 in 1000 ( 0.1%) of the capillaries are blocked. In the absence of shunts, 95% of the particles are removed from the circulation on the first pass through the pulmonary capillary bed. About 5% of particles measure less than 5 μm in diameter and pass through the capillary system. For purposes of pulmonary perfusion imaging, it is important to use a sufficient number of particles to allow for good statistical distribution. In general, injection of a minimum of 100,000 particles and optimally between 200,000 and 600,000 particles is required (Leden, E. 1990). The half life of 99mTc after injection into the body is 6 hours. This allows researchers to put these nuclei to use. Nuclei of technetium 99 emit gamma rays with a characteristic energy of 140 keV (Leden, E. 1990). • 27. Cholesterol And Levels Of Cholesterol Essay Introduction: In the United States, more than 2,100 people die from cardiovascular disease each day. According to the American Heart Association, too much cholesterol in a person s blood can lead to a heart disease and stroke (1). Cholesterol is the most common sterol in animal. Plants also have sterols in their structure, however human enzyme systems can only digest animal sterols (2). Cholesterol is produced in our bodies by the liver (endogenous) or could come from the foods we eat (exogenous). Both kinds are transported to and from the cells by lipoproteins: LDL and HDL. LDL cholesterol is considered to be the bad cholesterol, since it contributes in depositing plaque in the arteries, therefore contributing to atherosclerosis. HDL, on the other hand, is considered to be the good cholesterol since it has the opposite effect; it removes the LDL cholesterol from the arteries carrying it back to the liver, therefore reducing risks of atherosclerosis. Maintaining the low levels of LDL and high levels of HDL is extremely important, as HDL is responsible for moving the cholesterol from the blood to the liver whereas LDL is the reason for the build up inside the artery therefore increasing the risk of the cardiovascular diseases. In order to assess cholesterol levels in the body, blood serum cholesterol is tested. It is recommended that total cholesterol (TC) level in an individual to be less than 200 mg/dl (desirable level). • 30. Analysis Of Denzel Washington s The Best Actor Of All... One of the most talked about actors today is Denzel Washington, and considered one of the most engaging men of our time. So we can all agree on the fact that he s the best actor of all time, right ?! Denzel Washington told a reporter who talked with him for a article that What individuals expound on me is the thing that they are, and they think I am I am who I am, a dark man, said Washington. He is a dark man with nobility and intellect . A dark man who declines to agree with injustice , a black man who fails at times, however stands up and starts once more. That gives him such a great amount of acknowledgment in the reality of film making. Washington explained in 1990 to a journalist who addressed him about his race, I am exceptionally pleased to be dark, however dark is not all I am. (Denzel Washington His Film and Career) In spite of the fact that Denzel came from a broken family, his life does not reflect any hint of his past because of the fact that he is a good father and husband. Great speaker and exceptionally exquisite are some of words certain individuals use when discussing him. As a devotee of films, I think Washington has a picture of a performing artist who actuates individuals to expound on his life and conduct. That is the reason I picked him for my paper since he is a model to imitate. He is the one among those performing artists who don t let Hollywood degenerate them. • 31. Byzantium and Sassanid Empire In the early start of the post classical era two empires existed that were among the first wave of post classical empires. They were the Byzantine Empire and the Persian Sassanid Empire. They Byzantine Empire was known to be a continuation of the Roman Empire that lasted for one thousand years. Although this sounds like an achievement the one thousand year Byzantine Empire was not as great as it is expected to be. The Sassanid Empire that lied just east of the Byzantine Empire, or in present day Iran was also a continuation of previous Persian Empires. During the post classical era in Eurasia the Byzantine s and the Sassanid s were two empires that shared similarities and differences in their political institutions, social structures, dependence on trade and their economy, and in their declination during the seventh century Common Era. The Byzantines were a post classical representation of the Romans while the Sassanid s were a continued empire from late Persian Dynasties, and both of these continuation empires were comparable in political structure, social structure, and their declination. The political institution of Byzantium was similar to Political institution since both were centralized states, however both were not completely the same since the Byzantine s copied the Romans and the Persians copied the previous dynasties of Persia. The Byzantine Empire and the Persian Empire did not differ too much in their social structure, both mainly represented a model for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. The Persistence Of Ancient Symbols From Neolithic And... 1. Introduction This dissertation examines the persistence of ancient symbols from Neolithic and Pictish eras and the ways in which they reappear in Scottish art. The discussion takes the form of a hypothetical exhibition which brings together examples of art from many periods and in a variety of formats. Rugoff (2006, p.46) states exhibitions need to ask interesting questions, even unanswerable questions, instead of handing us tidy answers . By bringing together cultural artefacts and works of art in one venue this exhibition raises questions about how objects come to be defined as art and whether our definitions depend on the context within which an object is viewed. The thesis of the exhibition therefore is that in placing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is organised into sections based on artistic themes rather than chronology, and offers the engagement of touch and hearing as well as the visual. It also moves beyond the gallery, using both the immediate surroundings and site specific guided visits to remind the visitor of the essential role of the land in Scottish art. The audience reached by this multi perspective approach will therefore be a wide one, including those interested in Scotland and its history as well as those with an interest in art and creative processes. 2. The Exhibition Thesis: how we decide what is Art The ancient artefacts in the exhibition include works widely separated by great periods of time, and works which have been altered by succeeding generations. For millennia the oldest works were simply there , and part of folklore. From the eighteenth century they began to be viewed as being of antiquarian interest; later they were taken into the care of professional organisations, and later still they began to be considered as a form of art . The exhibition acknowledges the uncertainties surrounding their original purpose. Presenting them in an artistic context, it demonstrates that our definitions of what constitutes art are also problematical. Even the all encompassing definition recently proposed by Brian Eno art is everything you don t have to do (Eno, 2015, 14m. 30s.) fails in the face of artefacts which would appear to have been an intrinsic ... • 34. Does Janie Should Be Diagnosed As Asperger s Syndrome Essay Case Study According to the extensive amount of information provided in this case study about 6 year old Janie, I have come to the conclusion that Janie should be diagnosed as having a mild form of Autistic Spectrum Disorder formerly known as Asperger s syndrome. Under the Autistic Spectrum Disorder Asperger s syndrome is one of four pervasive developmental disorders (PDD) that all fall under the Autistic spectrum. Janie displays a number of symptoms that are specifically common to ASD. • 36. Inception, the Movie Inception Inception is not only a film that uses unique cinematography techniques but also tells a story with a big concept that one can t comprehend right away. The concept of dreams and how one dream can effect another dream is a risky topic to discuss due being the endless possibilities and complexities it can have. The director of Inception was none other than Christopher Nolan, as shown by the obvious concept of noir and conceptual thought that is in many of his films. Together with his partner in crime, Walter Pfister, a well known cinematographer; the two work together to create an incredible motion picture. According to the text, every good movie has two major ingredients. The two ingredients are none other than a good script, and a directors inspiration, vision, intelligence, and supervision of all aspects of the film s production (Barsam 483). Inception is no exception to this rule at all. Inception uses a unique familiarity technique in modern cinema of alienating and shocking the audience throughout the film. The audience members are thrown in the middle of a scene right from the start of the film with close ups of Cobb s face. Abruptly the movie spontaneously moves to another scene where Cobb and Arthur are talking to Mr. Saito, making the scene to appear to be present time , only to have the scenery switched once again to an apartment where everyone is asleep. Unfortunately that wasn t the end scene jumping as it turns out everyone is asleep on a train ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 2002, revenue increased by a mere 4.6%.There are several flaws and problems in the company that may decrease revenue sales. B. Competition There are six major competitors: Gevalia, Illy Caf #233;, Millstone, Peet s Coffee and Tea, Seattle s Best and Starbucks. Starbucks seems to have a strong share in the available market. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These substitutes are decreasing our potential market share. There is also a trend towards whole bean specialty coffee. During the 1990 s, the ground coffee industry was stagnant; slowly declining sales. On the other hand, the whole bean market has grown by 8% annually since 1990. A survey suggests that 36% of coffee drinkers purchased whole bean coffee because they believed that roasting at home would give a fresher, better taste. Another factor decreasing our market share is the international market. Although we are increasing in every market domestically, our international market has greatly decreased by 26.6% during 2001 to 2002. Our decrease is equal to a full year percentage of sales of 2001 2002 in Southern New England. (MA, CT, RI). Green Mountain also faces several problems because it is simply a wholesaler. Starbucks coffee is a familiar name to customers with a reputation, which precedes its name. Green Mountain simply does not because of our limitations of being a wholesaler. Green Mountain made a decision to close all their locations because of flat sales and a lease problem. The retail locations are important because they are a vehicle for consumers to sample Green Mountain coffee. Starbucks retail locations help customers familiarize with its products. III. Recommendations The only way sure way to increase our sales is to increase our client base. We currently provide coffee to

  • 39. The s Perspective On Alcohol Abuse Bruffee s Perspective on Alcohol Abuse Bruffee was unsuccessful in grabbing my attention because his persuasive ways were weak and ineffective. I find his persuasiveness to be imprecise with no correlation between binge drinking and loneliness. For instance, his claims are supported based on personal experiences and personal observations such as students having difficulty making a new group of friends, being desperate to belong and creating an academic background. Unlike Weschler, Bruffee does not use scientific studies, real examples and realistic solutions to adequately connect binge drinkers and introverts; therefore, Bruffee is less successful because he failed to support many of his claims, and his conclusion is incomplete. First of all, there is some credibility in his article trying to capture the reader interest in why binge drinking is an issue on college campuses, in which he provides statistic reports with cause and effect. However, credibility gets lost when he uses himself as an example of why students join fraternities. Bruffee says that one of the reasons he joined was because he felt desperate to belong. In addition, Bruffee also implies that Fitting in motivates freshmen students to join fraternities and sororities which leads them to binge drinking. In my own perspective, his claims are lacking support and based on assumptions of his own experience that comes off as vague and inaccurate; most of the students would not join a fraternity just because ... • 40. Compare And Contrast Byrd And Mary Rowlandson Colonial Essay Rough Draft This essay will consist of the many differences, but also the very few similarities, of Mary Rowlandson and William Byrd. Using their narratives, A Narrative of the Captivity, by Mary Rowlandson and The History of the Dividing Line, by William Byrd, to describe how they are different and the same. And even though they of the same ethnicity and culture, their views on the Native Americans were very different and very interesting considering their positions. In the narrative by Rowlandson, called A Narrative of the Captivity, she tells the reader about her experience as a captive of the Native Americans. Throughout the narrative Rowlandson is in a seemingly constant state of worry because, one, she has no way of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On Brady 2 multiple occasions throughout the narrative Rowlandson uses the Native s language as a sign of understanding and respect. Rowlandson also uses biblical quotes a couple of times as a way to reassure herself that it was God doing this for a reason. In one excerpt she uses she is talking about her children, asking Joseph why this is happening to her and her offspring. Unlike Rowlandson s narrative, Byrd uses satire and basically mocks everything in his narrative, The History of the Dividing Line. Though Byrd s narrative was mainly of him complaining it did include some useful information such as the fact that the Colonists had the Native Americans work for them and in result of that the Colonists ended up with fluxes. Well Byrd is also self absorbed, thinking himself to be of higher intelligence than everyone else. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
