Early African Civilization Dbq
The early civilizations of Africa were different in many of their cultural traits. One common trait they
did have in common was the importance of trade in their society. Although trade was good for the
African civilizations, there was consequences that followed trading. I will be using documents B, F,
and D to support how early African civilizations had consequences from trading. In document B it
states that, The door of the pavilion is guarded by dogs on an excellent breed... who wear collars of
gold and silver, this quote helps support the idea that Ghana had lots of gold and wealth. One of the
consequences of trading was wealth and power. Wealth and power was a positive consequence that
would help a early African civilization prosper. Wealth and power of Ghana included having golden
swords, trappings, and braiding. This is why document B helps support the idea that early African
civilizations had consequences from trading. Document F is a map that shows the West African trade
network. A consequence of trade from document F is exploitation. Some examples are: in the
civilization of Elmina, they were near salt, gold, slaves, and ivory. These are the things that Elmina
traded with others and how they prospered. In Benin, salt was traded with others. Finally, in the
civilization of Gao, copper, gold, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the empire Ghana, they worked with iron, and traded it for gold and salt. Because of trading iron for
salt and gold, the empire prospered. The empire of Mali prospered from trade and that was one of their
key accomplishments. In Songhai, a key accomplishment was that it was the largest empire of West
Africa. You can infer that because Songhai was the largest empire, trade was very important to
Songhai. A consequence for document D was show of wealth. Document D supports the idea that

Jennifer Turner DSTL3 TDA 3.1 Communication and Professional relationships with children, young
people amp; adults 1 Explain why effective communication is important in developing positive
relationships with children, young people and adults. 1.1 It is important to adapt communication to
include all children. In my class the children are always greeted with a smile, good morning and how
are you today. Some of the children have news to tell you. I get down to their level and have eye
contact and listen to what they have to say. I always show interest in what they are saying as it boosts

In my class we have a visual time table which lets the children know what they will be doing though
the day. That we go through it in the morning and after lunchtime to reinforce. Some children have
help me signs as they find it hard to ask for help. So they come to us with the sign and will know they
need help. We also use sign language like thumbs up for good work, have you been good, facial
expression like smiling or sad face let children know that they may not be making the right choices.
The children in my class find it very difficult either to sit still or do work or both so they have charts
that have faces on green happy, yellow need to try harder and red sad. The children in my class need
close contact due to their ages or they need more help than other children because of their special
needs. I always give eye contact when working with the children and show that I m interested in what
they are saying. I bend down to their level or sit on a chair and speak to them at the level they can
understand. I m always approachable and friendly and willing to listen or if they just need a hug. 2.2

Soviet Nuclear Scientist, Dissident and Human Rights Activist
Dr. Andrei Sakharov was a leading developer of Soviet nuclear weapons. As he progressed through
life he began working towards international peace and basic human freedoms for the people of the
Soviet Union. In recognition of this work, Dr. Sakharov was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace. Dr.
Sakharov s contributions to the Soviet weapons program and his public communications of the
dangers of nuclear weapons helped to prevent nuclear war between the US and Soviet super powers.
Andrei Sakharov was born in Moscow on May twenty first, 1921 to a well educated Russian family.

Akio Toyota Criticism
A Criticism of Akio Toyota s Speech for Recall Issues Apologetic discourse is a very important form
for the accused to express their sorry, defend their reputation and regain speakers support or
forgiveness. Many speakers will pay much attention to preparing their apologia and spare not efforts
to present its contents. Apologia (from Greek ἀπολογία, speaking in defense ) is a formal defense of a
position or action. (Oxford Dictionary,2016) In modern usage, apologia describes a formal defense
and should not be confused with the sense of the word apology as the expression of regret. (Merriam
Webster Dictionary.,2016) It is apparent that an apologia is more like speaker s self defense, which
is pretty consistent with what Ware and Linkugel testified in their article They Spoke in Defense of
Themselves: on the Generic Criticism of Apologia . Thus in this paper, the author will make some
appropriate and reasonable comments on Akio Toyota s speech by employing some reliable theoretical
materials from Ware and Linkugel. Toyota Motor Corporation, affiliated with Japan s Mitsui Chaebol,
has gradually rank the NO.1 as an auto maker since 2008, whose brands include Lexus, Toyota, and

Similarities Between Lyrics And Poetry
Are Lyrics Poetry or Meaningless Words? In society today, there are many arguments about whether
or not song lyrics should be considered poetry, or if the two are completely different in their meanings.
Lyrics should be considered poetry because they have a purpose and meaning and some are written
similarly to how poems are. Lyrics and poetry are similar in many ways,in expression, how they are
written and their purpose. A controversial argument is that many people argue the fact that today
music is not really meaningful so how can it be considered poetry? Well in song lyrics, there is the
creativeness of pulling in literary techniques to give the lyrics a deeper meaning. For example, in
Garth Brooks famous song, The Dance, he says, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She also is using a hyperbole when saying I died a hundred times. The concept of what she is saying is
to try to tell us how her significant other leaving her for another girl makes her feel similar to dying.
Those are just a few ways literary techniques are used in both lyrics and poetry.
Additionally, lyrics and poetry are used throughout the world to help others understand what people
are feeling. Even if people don t speak the same language, music and poetry makes them feel that they
do. It gives a sense of connection, even if it only is for three minutes. Even if you re not looking at the
phonetic part of a song lyric or poem, they both still have an impact. No matter where you are in the
world poetry and music both explain how people are feeling throughout the world. For example in
Toby Keith s Courtesy of the Red White and Blue, he says, Justice will be served and the battle will
rage, This big dog will fight when you rattle his cage. And you ll be sorry that you messed with The
U.S of A. (Lines 25 28)
Keith is saying in these lyrics how nothing will bring America down. In a poem quite similar, Hannah
Schoechert says, Bin Laden tried To crush our land, But we stood our ground, With our flag in hand.
And were still standing. (Lines 6 10)
In both of these examples, the main idea of not backing down is shown quite evidently. In the lyrics as
well as the poem, the meanings are clear, thus making them equal. The

As a result, some foods are scarce and food prices have risen drastically. Part of the reason for the
scarcity is a series of attacks on the truck that brings food from neighbouring Medan province to Aceh.
According to Acehnese academic Dr Yusny Saby, those most affected by the military offensive are the
villagers of eastern Aceh, where most of the fighting has taken place.
According to Saby (2003) the food situation should soon improve because military escorts now
provided to the supply convoys. However, the military presence could also increase the food prices
still further, because of the soldier that guarding the supply trucks would need paying too. The
situation is likely to have grown worse since the martial law declared on May 19, 2003 and once again
on November 6. Since the resumption of the government s military offensive in Aceh, the international
media and humanitarian organizations have been restricted to the capital Banda Aceh.

What Are The Key Aspects Of Positive Protection Of TK By...
TRADITIONAL KNOWLEDGE PROTECTION UNDER INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
Innovations based on TK may benefit from patent, trademark, and geographical indication protection,
or be protected as a trade secret or confidential information. However, traditional knowledge as such
knowledge that has ancient roots and is often oral is not protected by conventional intellectual
property systems.
While the policy issues concerning TK are broad and diverse, the IP issues break down into two key
themes:

The Question that arises is if granted, whether copyright law would be sufficient for the protection of
traditional knowledge?
Some of the major drawbacks in protecting traditional knowledge with copyright are as follows:
1. Authorship: Under the Indian Copyright Law, protection is given to the author or owner of the
work. Traditional Knowledge is community owned knowledge and is generally developed and evolved
through generations to generation. In such case tracing the author of the traditional knowledge is not
only difficult but almost impossible.
2. Protection for Limited Time: Indian copyright protection is time confined as in it is granted for a
particular term of 60 years. Traditional Knowledge is imperative and it should have perpetual
protection rather than limited protection.
3. Fixed form: To protect any work with Copyright under the Indian Copyright Law it is required that
the work must be present in a tangible form. Fixed form of traditional knowledge is hard to find. In
most of the cases, traditional knowledge is passed over generations in a community in form of stories.
These stories are rarely available in fixed form.
As per Indian Copyright law traditional knowledge fails to adhere the requirements that are precedent
to copyright protection. Hence, the protection can easily be denied

Depiction of Etruscan and Roman Women in History
The Etruscan society allegedly migrated from Tuscany or Lydia. (Klien, 166) Much of what scholars
know regarding Etruscan society is based on funerary artwork. The Etruscans did not keep any written
records of their activity. What we know about Etruscan lifestyle is based on their artwork left behind.
Early on Etruscan society had a lot of contact with the Greeks that reflect in much of the Etruscan
works of art. The distinction in Etruscan art and Greek art is clearly seen through the Etruscan
representation of couples in art. The pieces in this collection will attempt to show how women in

The Importance Of The Warrior Class In Japan
The Warrior class were part of the social class in Japan that included Shoguns, Daimyos and Samurais.
The Shoguns would rule the Daimyos, who had control over the Samurais. Japan s warrior class led to
a lasting effect, enhanced weapons and effect on the social class which led to the alteration of the
warrior class roles.
In Japan, during the end of the first millennium, the samurai went to war with the emperor. This war is
known as the Genpei War and the Emperor was defeated by the Samurai. This led to the first
established shogunate. During the Edo period (1603 1868) or also known as the Tokugawa shogunate,
there was an era of stability that led to the rise of shoguns. Shoguns were considered the single ruler of
Japan although, the emperor was above the shoguns on the social class. Tokugawa Ieyasu ruled Japan
for 15 generations, controlling about 25% of the peoples land, leaving the rest of the 75% to be put
into domains, ruled by 275 daimyos. The shogun of Japan controlled government, however, when the
Meiji Restoration began in the 19th century, Japans stable society ended and the Shoguns lost all
power, due to Matthew Perry. Matthew Perry was a Christian who was seen as a threat to Japan as he
wanted to create a divide within Japan. Japan was split into two sections, one being the shogunate and
its supporters to remain in power and the Japanese nationalists who wanted the Emperor to regain
power. This divide in Japan led to a civil war known as the Boshin war or the

US-MEXICAN WAR Essay
The U.S. Mexican War was a violent and shattering event for Mexican citizens that lasted from 1846
1848 in what is now the state of Texas. It drastically altered the course of Mexican and American
history for years to come. It occurred because of the unsettled disputes about the borders of newly
annexed Texas. Once the debilitating battle ended, the United States emerged a world power having
acquired more than 500,000 square miles of valuable territory. There are many potentially feasible
explanations on the cause of the war; including, fault laying with American slaveholders for conquest
of Mexico, the war as an American plot and responsibility lying with President Polk of the United

The U.S. soon saw themselves masters of Louisiana, [ready to] spread their snares at once for the rest
of the Floridas, and the province of Texas. Mexico did not know how to handle this migration from the
U.S. as its citizens were still in the midst of the Mexican Revolution. It was the insatiable ambition of
the United States, favored by [Mexican] weakness that was the principle cause of the U.S. Mexican
War. However, soon after the Mexican Republic was formed, it was realized that the U.S. expansion
into Mexico could become a real danger. Mexico had just attained its freedom from Spain in the 1820s
and as such, did not want to fall into another malevolent trap with the U.S., leaving its citizens unsure
on how to proceed without starting a war. This is in part because not all migration was unsolicited
before the annexation of Texas. After Mexico declared its independence from Spain it needed more
settlers to populate the areas of Mexico without many citizens living in its regions. Thus, in order to
ease tensions between the countries a proposal was created that involved U.S. citizens living in Texas
to become citizens of Mexico and pledge allegiance to the Mexican nation. They would become
Catholics and obey the laws of their new nation. However, what was decided on paper and what the
settlers actually did were inconsistent with each other. The settlers were unhappy with the rules of

Freudian Literary Analysis Of Doubt By John Patrick Shanley
Freudian(Psychoanalytical) Literary Analysis of Doubt
Doubt by John Patrick Shanley is about a nun who is entirely convinced that a priest had done
something inappropriate to one of the students and taken advantage of the fact that the student
(Donald Muller) is an African American. Sister Aloysius Beauvier, the nun, concluded that Father
Flynn, the priest, had been forcing Donald Muller to drink wine and molesting him. With the help of a
naive nun named Sister James, Sister Aloysius attempted to investigate her assumption of Father
Flynn s actions even if it meant contacting Donald s mother. Sister Aloysius is a stereotypical splenetic
Catholic School nun who believes that being an unsympathetic and oppressive person to the students
is the most effective method in order to make the students oblige to her commands. The literary theory
chosen for this literature work is the Freudian literary theory. Freudian literary theory is based on the
works of Sigmund Freud and workings of the mind and instinct as well as sexuality. The play Doubt
and Freudian literary theory can be related because Freud s work reveals the id, ego and superego and
how it affects a person. Id is a natural instinct. Ego ensures that the impulses of the id is expressed in
an acceptable behavior. Superego provides guidelines and morals for making judgments. (Brizee)
Sister Aloysius id desires to get rid of Father Flynn immediately. Her superego is diminished since she
lied to Father Flynn. Her ego is shown

The Use of Birds in Chronical of a Death Foretold by...
In the novel, Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, birds are used as motifs
intentionally in the imagery of scenes to convey sentiments, ideas and messages to the reader. Some of
the roles taken by the symbolism of birds include indicating signs of the future and afterlife,
supporting character portrayal and development throughout the text. The symbolism of birds is
discussed in the essay because the recurring images of birds have a pertinent significance to the
novella.
In literature, birds are commonly viewed as signs of freedom while in flight, yet while they are
entrapped in cages, they symbolize the struggle for freedom. Gabriel Garcia s usage of birds has both
common and uncommon roles in the novel. The birds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Santiago seemed happy with his father until the latter died suddenly, three years before, (Marquez 7).
In this sense, the dream about floating through a grove of timber trees where a gentle drizzle was

birds hold significance in this passage in the metaphor comparing bird shit to life ruining events. The
reader learns more about Santiago when the narrator reveals that Nasar gained the good arts of valor

Furthermore, Santiago is an aggressive wealthy individual that is compared to a sparrow hawk [...] just

the text, falcons are associated with entertainment and displaying one s status of wealth, and the
opening quote by Gil Vicente, the pursuit of love is like falconry (1) compares the persistent nature of
pursuing love to the recreational activity of hunting with falcons.
Subsequently, the reader becomes aware of Santiago s innocence and naivety. Nahir Miguel reveals to

separation of powers, which neither any branch working alone can change the U.S. constitution, is a
kind of harmony that is similar to what is described in Plato s aristocratic regime, where each class
minds their own jobs to keep the state functioning. Besides, in my opinion, the current U.S.
government is a combination of timocracy, oligarchy and democracy, which of four regime types of
Plato.
According to Socrates, in Timoracy, the spiritedness, which is the love of victory and honors, will be
predominant. Timoracy honours the rulers while is contemptuous of manual activities and trade; for its
rulers, they will eat communally and devote themselves to gymnastics and training for war. Timoracy
will be also governed in being afraid to appoint the wise as rulers, instead, selecting spirited and
simpler man, men naturally more directed to war than to peace (Plato 547e). Although they will desire
money, they will be niggardly of money since they cannot acquire money openly; therefore, they will
love to spend others money to fulfill their aspirations. Due to attach importance to physical training,

Comment and Response to Texting and Writing by Michaela...
Comment and Response to Texting and Writing by Michaela Cullington After reading Texting and
Writing, by Michaela Cullington, I do not agree with many of her viewpoints. Cullington argues that
texting does not affect a students writing. Textspeak, the abbreviation and shortening of words like
used when writing a text message, does affect the way a student writes because they use the
abbreviations, and their writings tend to lack punctuation. When a writer uses excessive abbreviations
on a regular basis they can get stuck in the writer s head causing them to use them in all of their
writings. Cullington did make good points of her own opinion on texting and writing in her piece, but
I disagree with her and believe that texting and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cullington recalled a few examples that teachers found while reading papers, 2 instead of to, ; gr8,
instead of great, ; dat, in place of that, ; g2g, for got to go, ; hbu, instead of how about you, ; cuz, to
replace because, ; and wut, for what, . Textspeak is a dangerous way to write, and once a writer learns
and gets used to writing that way, writing papers for school becomes more and more difficult. A
common acronym is LOL which is an abbreviation for laugh out loud. The abbreviated for LOL would
not be acceptable for an academic paper. Our current generation needs to pay more attention when
writing, and to use correct spelling and not use acronyms to shorten their written ideas. Writing
College, Writing Life s article Learning the Language by Perri Klass talks about how some
professions require abbreviations, which is one of the few times it is accecptable. Abbrevaitons can be
helpful and an easy way to write a few words in just a few letters. Teachers do not like abbreviations
because the writer tends to assume the reader knows what each acronym means, the paper should be
and enjoyable read, not a confusing puzzle. While writing a paper for school teachers do not approve
of abbreviation and acronyms, the writer should just take his or her time to write our each word
correctly. Michaela Cullington believes that texting

Consent In Nursing Essay
This essay will focus on the importance of consent in adult nursing and in child nursing. Consent is a
fundamental part of the nursing process and is a legal, ethical and professional requirement all adult
nurses are obliged to adhere to. Consent is important, as it promotes patient s autonomy and human
rights. It gives people the right to contribute to the decisions made regarding their care and treatment,
giving them the right to consent or refuse. Buka, (2015)
The first point of focus in this essay will be on consent within adult field and the guidance nurses must
be aware of. It will then discuss what makes consent valid and what guidance an adult must be aware
of where a patient lacks capacity.
The second focus will be of consent in child ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Child nurses can also use the Gillick and Fraser guidelines where assessing if a child is competent and
mature enough to make decisions regarding their healthcare. They should also refer to The Children
Act 2004 for the rights of the child.
The way in which they need to communicate will differ, as they will need to incorporate ways such as
play with children depending on the age. The communication from a child nurse will need to be at a
much lower level than with adults, unless there is a disturbance to the mind or brain of the adult.
Which determines a lack of mental capacity. MCA, (2005)
Ensuring confidentiality is essential in both fields, where consent is concerned it enables patients to
make decisions free from coercion from family and friends.
Consent is a fundamental part of nursing and all nurses must gain it before any form of healthcare is
carried out on patients. NMC, (2015). All patients have the right to make informed decisions regarding
their care and where they lack mental capacity, they still have the right for nurses to make sure they

What Instrument Was Best For Me
Jazz Standards
Music isn t just what I do, it s who I am, and who I ve always been. I play twelve instruments. Some
fluently, some only a singular note or, maybe a song. This all started out in sixth grade when I could
not decide what instrument was best for me. I started out my first two months of middle school by
switching from instrument to instrument. I began with the oboe, and a week later, I changed to
percussion. Only then, did I attempt to play all of the brass instruments and I mean all of them
trumpet, french horn, tuba, trombone, and baritone, you name it, and I ve probably played it. Next, I
moved on to all of the woodwinds, flutes, clarinets, and all of the saxophones. Again, I cycled through
the percussion instruments once again. Finally, I decided that I would rather play notes on a staff than
beat something with a stick. I was forced, by my very irritated band teacher, to pick one of the two
that I was better at, the alto saxophone or the trumpet. Two completely different musical instruments
in two completely different musical families. Of course, as an indecisive twelve year old, I could not
pick. Mr. Deneen, a woodwind player himself, chose the alto saxophone.
The alto saxophone has stuck with me for many years six, to be exact. My sixth grade year I became
really good at playing my saxophone. I went from indecisiveness to first chair in a matter of weeks. In
fact, I was so talented that I was moved up into the eighth grade band as a sixth grader.

How Is Performance Management Linked to Organizational...
ABSTRACT
How is performance management linked to organizational strategy execution and performance? A case
study of two organizations of different scale in Asia
By Raveenderen Ramamoothie Strategy execution is a topic of practical importance and its success
depends on how an organization integrates and aligns the business units and the employee
performance to the strategic goals of the organization. However, many organizations find that their
strategic goals realization is not optimized. One of the key issues is that the strategy and the
performance goals of an organization are often disconnected with the performance management
platform, a function of the strategic HR in managing employee performance. Essentially in this

What Is The Book Me Before You It By Jojo Moyes
The book that I read was Me Before You it is written by Jojo Moyes. This book turned out to be one of
my favorites. This book is about a girl who lives in a small town in England. Her name was Louise
Clark everyone called her Lou. At first she was working in a café until the man who owned it
unexpectedly announced that he would be shutting the place down, this left Lou out a job. Her family
was very disappointed because Lou helped her whole family out a whole lot with money because they
were going through tough times. Lou went back to the job center and tried to find a job. There was
nothing that she thought she could do until one day Syd the man at the job center told her about a
caregiver job. Lou was not sure about Caregiving because she didn t feel as though she would be able
to handle it, but she did not turn it down she gave it a try. This is how she met Will, Will Traynor is the
one Lou was going to be taking care of because he was hit by a motorcycle and it left him paralyzed.
It took quite awhile for Lou and Will to become good friends but it did happen. ... Show more content

The reason I see the weather is because when Will told Lou about the accident and how a motorcycle
hit him it was raining that day. It made me think of this chapter because rain can always have a deeper
meaning and Will was running towards a taxi trying not to get all soaked and I just think what if it was
sunny? Would there have been a different outcome? Rain always has a sad feeling for some people
and for Will that day I think it was a very sad day and I related it to this chapter because I think the
rain had a profounder meaning than just it was raining that

The Importance Of Islam A Way Of Life
Islam is not only a religion, but a way of life. According to Al Shahri (2002), Islam means total
obedience or submission to the true and one Allah (Allah is the Arabic name for God). The source of
law in the Islamic legal system arising from Islam is the Qur an and Sunnah. The Qur an is the word
of Allah as revealed to Prophet Mohammed (Peace Be Upon him [PBUH]) through the angel Gabriel.
Sunnah is the collection of words, actions, traditions, and deeds of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH).
Islam is the way of life within the system of values that advocate forgiveness, peace, repentance, and
mercy. These values are not only central to Islamic philosophy, but are universally held at the root of
nursing care. Islamic Philosophy provides guidance on moral, spiritual, personal, social, political, and
economic affairs for all aspects of Muslim s life (Rashidi Rajaram, 2001).
There are many concepts important to the underlying philosophy in Islam. The idea of tawheed is
central in Islam. Tawheed means unification and the Ones of God, which required maintaining God s
unity in all human activities: practically, intellectually, and spiritually (Rassool, 2000). Islam defines
human beings with specific paradigms, which include mind, soul and spirit, body, and heart. The
practice of the Muslim life reflects these paradigms in the individual s relationship with Allah.
According to Luna (1994), Tawheed implies that there is no separation of the spiritual dimension from
the body: in other words, there is body mind unity. In the past, the rise of positivism resulted in the
conceptual separation of mind and body and this concept then found its way into modern healthcare.
According to Rashidi and Rajaram (2001), this separation of body and mind has had a negative
influence on the holistic approach to providing nursing care (Rashidi Rajaram, 2001). In the Islamic
philosophy of nursing care, this idea of positivism has been rejected.
Muslims believe in predestination according to Allah s will. In the understanding of the spiritual life,
there is a belief in life after death and a Day of Judgment. At that time, it is believed that Allah judge s
people based on their deeds during earthly life. There are five

Mothers And Daughters In Amy Tan s The Joy Luck Club
It was during the time of the war when a woman named Suyuan Woo, created the Joy Luck Club.
Together, they played mahjong and created hope and joy for themselves because of the way, and along
the way, they raised their daughters to be perfect Chinese girls. In the Chinese culture, there are a
variety of superstitions. Sons and daughters of the family are not treated equally. However, from
analyzing the mother daughter relationships, in the novel, the mothers always do what is best for their
daughter. In the novel, The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan, she teaches how certain individuals in a
Chinese household lives and a few of their beliefs. To begin, there are many Chinese superstitions that
are not commonly known. For example, when the mothers and daughters all had dinner together on
New Year day, everyone picked the best quality crab, but June Woo picked the one that was missing a
leg. However, her mother, Suyuan, takes it from her to give her a better one and says, a missing leg is
a bad sign on a Chinese New Year (Tan 225). This shows that Suyuan believes that a crab missing its

Daughters must be obedient and perfect. For instances, Lindo was arranged to marry into the Huang s
family and when had a sour look on her face, her mother said, such an ugly face. The Huangs won t
want you or our whole family will be disgraces (Tan 45). In the same fashion, it is said that a son can
never go to somebody else s house to live. If he went, he would lose any hope for a future (Tan 246).
Equally important, men can have multiple wives but women will get shamed by their family if they
have more than one husband. For example, An mei s mother was a widow but was raped and became
the third concubine to a rich man. Although it was not by choice, her family disowned and kicked her
out of the house. Hence, men have more freedom than women in the Chinese

Spotify Pays Enough Revenues to the Music Industry Essay
I m not quite sure who it was that decided that music was supposed to be an insanely profitable
business. Mick Jagger has pointed out that it really only made serious money from the start of the 70s
to the end of the 90s, but somebody s written in to the NME the week complaining about Spotify and
how it doesn t pay artists enough for song plays. Compared to what? Album sales? While it s true that
an artist is unlikely to earn anywhere near as much money from streaming as they are from album
sales, this isn t really a comparison that works.
When you go to the theatre you don t buy a movie ticket because you like the film. You buy a ticket so
that you can go in and see the film. Music works in pretty much the opposite way. You listen to ...

It would also be well to consider that with most music streaming services when you come across a
song that you would like to buy it is quite easy and convenient to do so from within the service, and so
in addition to greater pay, Spotify likely also causes more sales than radio play.
I wonder how many millions you need to make before you decide that you d rather a business give
you no money and zero new fans rather than a bit of both. We ve heard quite a plethora of well known
people such as Calvin Harris, Lady Gaga, and, as of a couple of weeks ago, David Byrne of Talking
Heads fame complain about Spotify, but you never hear about artists who are trying to make a name
for themselves slagging off Spotify s Business model because, even though it s probably far more
beneficial to shareholders than it is to musicians, they can still appreciate that it is an excellent
promotional opportunity that doesn t cost them anything, and might even leave them with some extra
cash!
Perhaps the consumers who don t morally agree with Spottily and its low rates should also bear in
mind that even if somebody listens to an album a lot on Spottily but doesn t quite like it enough to buy
it, or any of its creator s other products, at least the album artist has go something for their efforts. The
consumer could have just gotten their work off PirateBay, and then the musicians wouldn t have
gotten paid anything for it. If you ve

The Novel The Spirit Level I Came Into Inequality
While reading The Spirit Level I came into conclusion that the inequality in developed countries is
great threat to society as a whole. The major issues that are brought up in the book are the inequality
between the rich and the poor in developed countries but also the comparison between developing
countries. The book dives into several factors that are the effects of the inequality ranging from
obesity, teenage birth, life expectancy etc.... I would discuss in depth on each of these factors and how
they all are key components in society and how they add to the inequality in developed countries. One
of the first factors the book brings up is the issue of trust and how it is a main factor in society, trust is
what keeps us from not turning on each other and seeing others as cooperative rather than competitive.
According to the book trust has fallen from a high 60 percent from 1960 to a low of less than 40
percent in 2004 , this facts gives insight into the society we are living in now. When I read this, I could
only think of the mindset many people have now, job security is tight and that everyone is seen as
competition. I for one living in America I always have a sense that everyone wants to be on top, and
they are willing to do everything to get the job or position, instead of trying to change the way of
selfishness, we are adding to it, especially with social media. Social media has it pros but it has very
damaging cons, ideas of self worth and values are being shoved

Supervisor Reflection
What a term this has been. I have learned so much over this summer. I always felt in my heart that I
wanted to be a supervisor for incoming clinicians and this course has solidified my passion. Since
ones professional development is a lifelong process. I think the supervisor and supervisee relationship
is essential for professional growth. Personally I know that every supervisor in my career has left a
lasting impression and contributed to my professional development because of their dedication to
training, supervising, and teaching me all that they could. As a result I did not want to provide my
students with poor supervision and I wanted them to have my knowledge and expertise and pitfalls. I

us that I wanted to be insure I created space for my supervisees to not only reflect and process their
feelings and biases but also to practice and ask questions about working with clients of diverse
populations that may be impacted directly or indirectly by the current events sweeping our nation. It is
important that we not just discuss being culturally competent and inclusive but that we have real
conversations and practices regarding these and other aspects of diversity, pluralism and inclusion. I
am also a big believer in self care and not only talking about it but practicing what I preach so it was
important we discuss and create space for giving each other emotional support through reassurance
and encouragement. Overall, I had a great experience and I learned valuable lessons supervising and
being supervised. A peer even approached me this week from our course and said you know I really
appreciate your supervisor style and I would hire you in a second as a supervisor. That was really nice
to hear and while I know there is so much more to learn I am looking forward to joining other
supervisors in helping support and shape our future professional psychologist

Essay on The Flu Epidemic F 1918
Walking down any given street in the year 1918 between the months of June and December, one
would take notice of coffins lining the sidewalks. Nobody was on the streets, and dead bodies were
stuffed into every available space. The Flu Epidemic of 1918 not only was the most devastating event
of the twentieth century, but propelled the United States to search for a vaccine that has not yet been
found, causing concern that the flu will strike again.
Influenza has been around almost as long as people have walked the earth. Its roots draw back as far
as 412 B.C., when a man named Hippocrates wrote of an uncontrollable outbreak of a disease that
closely resembles influenza. This pandemic devastated an entire ... Show more content on

On August 12, 1918, Mrs. Olsen became the first person to die of influenza, beginning the killing
streak that would make influenza the number one killer (Persico 30). It spread like wildfire, with one
person falling ill, followed by another, 107 by afternoon, 522 by the end of the week, and 1,127
suffering with 46 dead five weeks later. Nevertheless, these occurred before influenza was discovered,
and pneumonia was blamed for deaths (Persico 28).
There have been about 20 million reported deaths due to the influenza of 1918. The doctors were too
overwhelmed by the many cases they had to care for, which brought about many unreported cases,
causing this minuscule number. One fateful day in October 759 people died in Philadelphia (Kolata 19
20). The epidemic spread so far so fast that public officials became frantic looking for ways to fend off
the virus. Arrests were made for spitting and coughing, public meetings were prohibited, and a series
of medical procedures were all attempts to prevent the virus from entering victims lungs (Persico 83).
This new influenza baffled researchers and doctors everywhere. Up to this point, all viral diseases has
spread prominently throughout heavily populated areas and into the lungs of the very young, very old,
or sickly. On the contrary, the Influenza of 1918 swept through the Midwest and preyed on the

The Temperance Movement Of The Early 1900 S
During the early 1900 s America was in its Gilded Age . The economy was booming and everyone
seemed to be happy from the outside. But, there were many problems going on in the United States. In
the factories where most people worked there were corrupt bosses, the people were overworked and
there was child labor. The only salvation that these people had was to drink. The workers drank to
calm down and feel no pain. But this destroyed families because they were almost constantly drunk.
They would sometimes lose their only job because of the drinking. So, a lot of religious groups and
many women started the temperance movement. There have been many people who have supported
temperance in the past and it dates all the way back to when the Bible was written. Eventually the 18th
Amendment was passed on January 26th 1919. This amendment was known as the Noble Experiment
. This turned out to be a complete failure. This law was impossible to enforce because of the corrupt
police and there was alcohol almost everywhere. In this paper I will go over alcohol use, attempts to
fight alcohol abuse, and the rise in crime due to the money that could be made in corruption.
Alcohol has been around for ages. There is evidence of alcohol in China in 7,000 b.c. The average
amount of calories in a glass of beer is 150 calories, 125 calories for a glass of wine, and 100 calories
for liquor. Fermented beverages have been around for thousands of years. They existed in early

My Religion Is Islam And Because Of Islam
My religion is Islam and because of Islam I have certain beliefs and bias in the religion. And it also
effects my interpersonal communication. Some of the beliefs are listed such as arrange marriages,
living a life with a family, praying, respecting the elders, giving importance to the poor people and
orphans, clothing for women and men.
I live in a country of Pakistan. And we have an Islamic religion. We usually do arrange marriages. The
marriage happened in the presence of the elders. They fix the date and meet with each other family.
Then they exchange gifts and sweets with each other. They make arrangements of marriage by fixing
the date. The groom and bride are not allowed to meet or talk with each other. Sometimes the bride
and groom has not seen each other. Then the date is fixed and necessary arrangements are made for
the bride and groom. All of the arrangements are made by mostly the elders like the bride and groom
close relatives. The purpose of the arrange marriages with the elders permission is to make a long
lasting relationship between the bride and the groom. When the wedding is about to take place, several
witnesses are there to evidence the marriage. Then the bride and groom usually lives in the shelter of
their parents or old relatives. This was done to make sure that everything goes by smoothly and none
of the traditions and culture is ignored. Now there is an era of new generation. And also many people

  • 2. Early African Civilization Dbq The early civilizations of Africa were different in many of their cultural traits. One common trait they did have in common was the importance of trade in their society. Although trade was good for the African civilizations, there was consequences that followed trading. I will be using documents B, F, and D to support how early African civilizations had consequences from trading. In document B it states that, The door of the pavilion is guarded by dogs on an excellent breed... who wear collars of gold and silver, this quote helps support the idea that Ghana had lots of gold and wealth. One of the consequences of trading was wealth and power. Wealth and power was a positive consequence that would help a early African civilization prosper. Wealth and power of Ghana included having golden swords, trappings, and braiding. This is why document B helps support the idea that early African civilizations had consequences from trading. Document F is a map that shows the West African trade network. A consequence of trade from document F is exploitation. Some examples are: in the civilization of Elmina, they were near salt, gold, slaves, and ivory. These are the things that Elmina traded with others and how they prospered. • 5. Akio Toyota Criticism A Criticism of Akio Toyota s Speech for Recall Issues Apologetic discourse is a very important form for the accused to express their sorry, defend their reputation and regain speakers support or forgiveness. Many speakers will pay much attention to preparing their apologia and spare not efforts to present its contents. Apologia (from Greek ἀπολογία, speaking in defense ) is a formal defense of a position or action. (Oxford Dictionary,2016) In modern usage, apologia describes a formal defense and should not be confused with the sense of the word apology as the expression of regret. (Merriam Webster Dictionary.,2016) It is apparent that an apologia is more like speaker s self defense, which is pretty consistent with what Ware and Linkugel testified in their article They Spoke in Defense of Themselves: on the Generic Criticism of Apologia . Thus in this paper, the author will make some appropriate and reasonable comments on Akio Toyota s speech by employing some reliable theoretical materials from Ware and Linkugel. • 6. Similarities Between Lyrics And Poetry Are Lyrics Poetry or Meaningless Words? In society today, there are many arguments about whether or not song lyrics should be considered poetry, or if the two are completely different in their meanings. Lyrics should be considered poetry because they have a purpose and meaning and some are written similarly to how poems are. Lyrics and poetry are similar in many ways,in expression, how they are written and their purpose. A controversial argument is that many people argue the fact that today music is not really meaningful so how can it be considered poetry? Well in song lyrics, there is the creativeness of pulling in literary techniques to give the lyrics a deeper meaning. For example, in Garth Brooks famous song, The Dance, he says, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She also is using a hyperbole when saying I died a hundred times. The concept of what she is saying is to try to tell us how her significant other leaving her for another girl makes her feel similar to dying. Those are just a few ways literary techniques are used in both lyrics and poetry. Additionally, lyrics and poetry are used throughout the world to help others understand what people are feeling. Even if people don t speak the same language, music and poetry makes them feel that they do. It gives a sense of connection, even if it only is for three minutes. Even if you re not looking at the phonetic part of a song lyric or poem, they both still have an impact. No matter where you are in the world poetry and music both explain how people are feeling throughout the world. For example in Toby Keith s Courtesy of the Red White and Blue, he says, Justice will be served and the battle will rage, This big dog will fight when you rattle his cage. And you ll be sorry that you messed with The U.S of A. (Lines 25 28) Keith is saying in these lyrics how nothing will bring America down. In a poem quite similar, Hannah Schoechert says, Bin Laden tried To crush our land, But we stood our ground, With our flag in hand. And were still standing. (Lines 6 10) In both of these examples, the main idea of not backing down is shown quite evidently. In the lyrics as well as the poem, the meanings are clear, thus making them equal. The ... Some of the major drawbacks in protecting traditional knowledge with copyright are as follows: 1. Authorship: Under the Indian Copyright Law, protection is given to the author or owner of the work. Traditional Knowledge is community owned knowledge and is generally developed and evolved through generations to generation. In such case tracing the author of the traditional knowledge is not only difficult but almost impossible. 2. Protection for Limited Time: Indian copyright protection is time confined as in it is granted for a particular term of 60 years. Traditional Knowledge is imperative and it should have perpetual protection rather than limited protection. 3. It was the insatiable ambition of the United States, favored by [Mexican] weakness that was the principle cause of the U.S. Mexican War. However, soon after the Mexican Republic was formed, it was realized that the U.S. expansion into Mexico could become a real danger. Mexico had just attained its freedom from Spain in the 1820s and as such, did not want to fall into another malevolent trap with the U.S., leaving its citizens unsure on how to proceed without starting a war. This is in part because not all migration was unsolicited before the annexation of Texas. After Mexico declared its independence from Spain it needed more settlers to populate the areas of Mexico without many citizens living in its regions. Thus, in order to ease tensions between the countries a proposal was created that involved U.S. citizens living in Texas to become citizens of Mexico and pledge allegiance to the Mexican nation. • 19. Freudian Literary Analysis Of Doubt By John Patrick Shanley Freudian(Psychoanalytical) Literary Analysis of Doubt Doubt by John Patrick Shanley is about a nun who is entirely convinced that a priest had done something inappropriate to one of the students and taken advantage of the fact that the student (Donald Muller) is an African American. Sister Aloysius Beauvier, the nun, concluded that Father Flynn, the priest, had been forcing Donald Muller to drink wine and molesting him. With the help of a naive nun named Sister James, Sister Aloysius attempted to investigate her assumption of Father Flynn s actions even if it meant contacting Donald s mother. Sister Aloysius is a stereotypical splenetic Catholic School nun who believes that being an unsympathetic and oppressive person to the students is the most effective method in order to make the students oblige to her commands. The literary theory chosen for this literature work is the Freudian literary theory. Freudian literary theory is based on the works of Sigmund Freud and workings of the mind and instinct as well as sexuality. The play Doubt and Freudian literary theory can be related because Freud s work reveals the id, ego and superego and how it affects a person. Id is a natural instinct. Some of the roles taken by the symbolism of birds include indicating signs of the future and afterlife, supporting character portrayal and development throughout the text. The symbolism of birds is discussed in the essay because the recurring images of birds have a pertinent significance to the novella. Cooperation and Contrast between Plato s Regimes and Current U.S. Government The U.S. government is a union of partially self governing states or regions under a central government. It is composed of three distinct branches: legislative, executive, and judicial, whose powers are vested by the U.S. Constitution in the Congress, the President, and the federal courts. The separation of powers, which neither any branch working alone can change the U.S. constitution, is a kind of harmony that is similar to what is described in Plato s aristocratic regime, where each class minds their own jobs to keep the state functioning. Besides, in my opinion, the current U.S. government is a combination of timocracy, oligarchy and democracy, which of four regime types of Plato. Timoracy honours the rulers while is contemptuous of manual activities and trade; for its rulers, they will eat communally and devote themselves to gymnastics and training for war. Some fluently, some only a singular note or, maybe a song. This all started out in sixth grade when I could not decide what instrument was best for me. I started out my first two months of middle school by switching from instrument to instrument. I began with the oboe, and a week later, I changed to percussion. Only then, did I attempt to play all of the brass instruments and I mean all of them trumpet, french horn, tuba, trombone, and baritone, you name it, and I ve probably played it. Next, I moved on to all of the woodwinds, flutes, clarinets, and all of the saxophones. Again, I cycled through the percussion instruments once again. Finally, I decided that I would rather play notes on a staff than beat something with a stick. I was forced, by my very irritated band teacher, to pick one of the two that I was better at, the alto saxophone or the trumpet. Two completely different musical instruments in two completely different musical families. Of course, as an indecisive twelve year old, I could not pick. Mr. Deneen, a woodwind player himself, chose the alto saxophone. The alto saxophone has stuck with me for many years six, to be exact. • 27. The Importance Of Islam A Way Of Life Islam is not only a religion, but a way of life. According to Al Shahri (2002), Islam means total obedience or submission to the true and one Allah (Allah is the Arabic name for God). The source of law in the Islamic legal system arising from Islam is the Qur an and Sunnah. The Qur an is the word of Allah as revealed to Prophet Mohammed (Peace Be Upon him [PBUH]) through the angel Gabriel. Sunnah is the collection of words, actions, traditions, and deeds of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). Islam is the way of life within the system of values that advocate forgiveness, peace, repentance, and mercy. These values are not only central to Islamic philosophy, but are universally held at the root of nursing care. Islamic Philosophy provides guidance on moral, spiritual, personal, social, political, and economic affairs for all aspects of Muslim s life (Rashidi Rajaram, 2001). There are many concepts important to the underlying philosophy in Islam. The idea of tawheed is central in Islam. Tawheed means unification and the Ones of God, which required maintaining God s unity in all human activities: practically, intellectually, and spiritually (Rassool, 2000). Islam defines human beings with specific paradigms, which include mind, soul and spirit, body, and heart. The practice of the Muslim life reflects these paradigms in the individual s relationship with Allah. According to Luna (1994), Tawheed implies that there is no separation of the spiritual dimension from the body: in other words, there is body mind unity. In the past, the rise of positivism resulted in the conceptual separation of mind and body and this concept then found its way into modern healthcare. According to Rashidi and Rajaram (2001), this separation of body and mind has had a negative influence on the holistic approach to providing nursing care (Rashidi Rajaram, 2001). In the Islamic philosophy of nursing care, this idea of positivism has been rejected. Muslims believe in predestination according to Allah s will. In the understanding of the spiritual life, there is a belief in life after death and a Day of Judgment. Perhaps the consumers who don t morally agree with Spottily and its low rates should also bear in mind that even if somebody listens to an album a lot on Spottily but doesn t quite like it enough to buy it, or any of its creator s other products, at least the album artist has go something for their efforts. The consumer could have just gotten their work off PirateBay, and then the musicians wouldn t have gotten paid anything for it. If you ve ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. The Novel The Spirit Level I Came Into Inequality While reading The Spirit Level I came into conclusion that the inequality in developed countries is great threat to society as a whole. The major issues that are brought up in the book are the inequality between the rich and the poor in developed countries but also the comparison between developing countries. The book dives into several factors that are the effects of the inequality ranging from obesity, teenage birth, life expectancy etc.... I would discuss in depth on each of these factors and how they all are key components in society and how they add to the inequality in developed countries. One of the first factors the book brings up is the issue of trust and how it is a main factor in society, trust is what keeps us from not turning on each other and seeing others as cooperative rather than competitive. According to the book trust has fallen from a high 60 percent from 1960 to a low of less than 40 percent in 2004 , this facts gives insight into the society we are living in now. When I read this, I could only think of the mindset many people have now, job security is tight and that everyone is seen as competition. I for one living in America I always have a sense that everyone wants to be on top, and they are willing to do everything to get the job or position, instead of trying to change the way of selfishness, we are adding to it, especially with social media. Social media has it pros but it has very damaging cons, ideas of self worth and values are being shoved ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Supervisor Reflection What a term this has been. I have learned so much over this summer. I always felt in my heart that I wanted to be a supervisor for incoming clinicians and this course has solidified my passion. Since ones professional development is a lifelong process. I think the supervisor and supervisee relationship is essential for professional growth. Personally I know that every supervisor in my career has left a lasting impression and contributed to my professional development because of their dedication to training, supervising, and teaching me all that they could. As a result I did not want to provide my students with poor supervision and I wanted them to have my knowledge and expertise and pitfalls. I wanted to create a space where my supervisees ... Over the course of this short term there was an array of tragedy happening around us that I wanted to be insure I created space for my supervisees to not only reflect and process their feelings and biases but also to practice and ask questions about working with clients of diverse populations that may be impacted directly or indirectly by the current events sweeping our nation. It is important that we not just discuss being culturally competent and inclusive but that we have real conversations and practices regarding these and other aspects of diversity, pluralism and inclusion. I am also a big believer in self care and not only talking about it but practicing what I preach so it was important we discuss and create space for giving each other emotional support through reassurance and encouragement. Overall, I had a great experience and I learned valuable lessons supervising and being supervised. A peer even approached me this week from our course and said you know I really appreciate your supervisor style and I would hire you in a second as a supervisor. That was really nice to hear and while I know there is so much more to learn I am looking forward to joining other supervisors in helping support and shape our future professional psychologist ... • 32. Essay on The Flu Epidemic F 1918 Walking down any given street in the year 1918 between the months of June and December, one would take notice of coffins lining the sidewalks. Nobody was on the streets, and dead bodies were stuffed into every available space. The Flu Epidemic of 1918 not only was the most devastating event of the twentieth century, but propelled the United States to search for a vaccine that has not yet been found, causing concern that the flu will strike again. Influenza has been around almost as long as people have walked the earth. Its roots draw back as far as 412 B.C., when a man named Hippocrates wrote of an uncontrollable outbreak of a disease that closely resembles influenza. This pandemic devastated an entire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On August 12, 1918, Mrs. Olsen became the first person to die of influenza, beginning the killing streak that would make influenza the number one killer (Persico 30). It spread like wildfire, with one person falling ill, followed by another, 107 by afternoon, 522 by the end of the week, and 1,127 suffering with 46 dead five weeks later. Nevertheless, these occurred before influenza was discovered, and pneumonia was blamed for deaths (Persico 28). There have been about 20 million reported deaths due to the influenza of 1918. The doctors were too overwhelmed by the many cases they had to care for, which brought about many unreported cases, causing this minuscule number. One fateful day in October 759 people died in Philadelphia (Kolata 19 20). The epidemic spread so far so fast that public officials became frantic looking for ways to fend off the virus. Arrests were made for spitting and coughing, public meetings were prohibited, and a series of medical procedures were all attempts to prevent the virus from entering victims lungs (Persico 83). This new influenza baffled researchers and doctors everywhere. Up to this point, all viral diseases has spread prominently throughout heavily populated areas and into the lungs of the very young, very old, or sickly. On the contrary, the Influenza of 1918 swept through the Midwest and preyed on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. The Temperance Movement Of The Early 1900 S During the early 1900 s America was in its Gilded Age . The economy was booming and everyone seemed to be happy from the outside. But, there were many problems going on in the United States. In the factories where most people worked there were corrupt bosses, the people were overworked and there was child labor. The only salvation that these people had was to drink. The workers drank to calm down and feel no pain. But this destroyed families because they were almost constantly drunk. They would sometimes lose their only job because of the drinking. So, a lot of religious groups and many women started the temperance movement. There have been many people who have supported temperance in the past and it dates all the way back to when the Bible was written. Eventually the 18th Amendment was passed on January 26th 1919. This amendment was known as the Noble Experiment . This turned out to be a complete failure. This law was impossible to enforce because of the corrupt police and there was alcohol almost everywhere. In this paper I will go over alcohol use, attempts to fight alcohol abuse, and the rise in crime due to the money that could be made in corruption. Alcohol has been around for ages. There is evidence of alcohol in China in 7,000 b.c. The average amount of calories in a glass of beer is 150 calories, 125 calories for a glass of wine, and 100 calories for liquor. Fermented beverages have been around for thousands of years. They existed in early Egyptian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some of the beliefs are listed such as arrange marriages, living a life with a family, praying, respecting the elders, giving importance to the poor people and orphans, clothing for women and men. I live in a country of Pakistan. And we have an Islamic religion. We usually do arrange marriages. The marriage happened in the presence of the elders. They fix the date and meet with each other family. Then they exchange gifts and sweets with each other. They make arrangements of marriage by fixing the date. The groom and bride are not allowed to meet or talk with each other. Sometimes the bride and groom has not seen each other. Then the date is fixed and necessary arrangements are made for the bride and groom. All of the arrangements are made by mostly the elders like the bride and groom close relatives. The purpose of the arrange marriages with the elders permission is to make a long lasting relationship between the bride and the groom. When the wedding is about to take place, several witnesses are there to evidence the marriage. Then the bride and groom usually lives in the shelter of their parents or old relatives.
