Stress And Oxidative Stress
Aerobic organisms need molecular oxygen (O2) for respiration or oxidation of nutrients to obtain
energy. There are some reactive by products of cellular respiration, derived from molecular oxygen,
that are generated continuously in cells grown aerobically, such as hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)
superoxide anion radical (O2 ), and the highly reactive hydroxyl radicals (OH).These reactive oxygen
species (ROS) are essential for various functions such as homeostasis and cell signaling but an
imbalance in favor of reactive oxygen species results in oxidative stress (OS) (Kashmiri et al.,2014).
Oxidative stress (OS) result in interference in the functioning of biological systems that maintain
levels of environmentally produced reactive oxygen species (ROS), by readily detecting and
detoxifying them (Lucana et al., 2012). Living organisms have adopted mechanisms to protect
themselves against oxidative stress, by producing enzymes such as catalase and superoxide dismutase,
small proteins like thioredoxin and glutaredoxin, and molecules such as glutathione ( Cabiscol et
al.,1999). Metallo enzymes such as superoxide dismutases are the primary antioxidant enzymes that
protect cells from oxidative damage of superoxide radicals, by catalyzing dismutation of superoxide
(O2 ) to hydrogen peroxide and oxygen. Superoxide dismutases, as name suggests dismutes
superoxide. Dismutation reaction is that in which two equal but opposite reactions occur on two
separate molecules. SOD takes two

The Legalization Of Euthanasia In The Fault In Our Stars...
Throughout John Green s novel, The Fault in Our Stars, we learn that Hazel and Augustus have a deep
love connection. However, as we continue to read, we learn that Hazel is terminally ill, which is a
form of illness that cannot be cured, therefore she will be dying at any point. Since the people that are
extremely ill, there comes a decision to make. The decisions that the patient has to decide is to
continue suffering or Euthanasia. Euthanasia is mostly an illegal thing throughout the United States,
but, however there are only five states and a single county in New Mexico that actually legalized it.
Though Euthanasia is not very ethical in most states, it should become legal in all fifty states because
of the pain (suffering), costs, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think it might be one of those processes that take a while to get unified in all fifty states, for example
Gay Marriage. I am not saying pick a side or what not, my point is that process took many years to
develop and come up with reasoning behind it. My belief for Euthanasia is you have a life and you
live it the way you do, but if you cannot decide to do it, then fine. Every person in this world was
brought into this world for a reason, whether you are smart or dumb, you have a reason why you are
here today, so go out and do something amazing while you can because life is all about doing things
you love to do. With the beliefs of the Roman Catholic Church and a Christian s perspective, different
types of costs impacting the GDP (Gross Domestic Product), and the pain suffering from a terminally
illness, there needs to be a plan to get Euthanasia legal and unified in all fifty

“the First World War Did Not Arise Primarily as a Result...
The First World War did not arise primarily as a result of planned German aggression How far do you
agree with this opinion?
Explain your answer, using sources 1, 2 and 3 and your own knowledge of the issues related to this
controversy.
There has been some controversy as to what or who was to blame for the outbreak of the First World
War. Some people have taken the opinion that the war arose as a result of planned German aggression
such as sources two and three, whereas source one is of the opinion that the Germans went to war with
defensive intentions and that they didn t have any special plan to dominate Europe .
It can be argued that the Schlieffen Plan was openly rigid and brittle which meant that the Germans
had no choice ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, I know from my own knowledge that the German s invented the Schlieffen Plan, a German
battle plan that was made many years prior to 1914 as a way to prevent a war on two fronts, implying
that they would be at war at some point. This shows aggressive intent and would contradict the views
of source 1 and the statement above, and yet agree with those of source two.
Furthermore source 3 presents the idea that there was inevitability and necessity for war, thus showing
us that Germany was indeed preparing for this and doing so through their aggressive nature. As well
as this, the war was also influenced by other ideas presented by this source, for example: the recovery
by France of Alsace Lorraine and the securing for Russia of Constantinople and the Straits. This
would contradict the points that were earlier made about German s aggression shining through and
would in fact suggest to us that they had no other alternative but to try and take back what the believed
to be theirs. In addition to this, there was indeed another big factor in the beginning of war which is
presented by source 3, and that was the British concern that the coast of Belgium should not be
occupied by a hostile power . Once again we could interpret this is two ways, one being that it was the
British that then made the first move regarding the outbreak of war because of this reason which
would therefore

Economic Impact On Germany
The impact of the Great Depression in Germany was significant because it affected virtually every
section of German society, and was significant both in the short and long term. The Great Depression
was caused by the Wall Street Crash in the USA in October 1929. Germany was disproportionately
affected compared to other European countries, as Foreign Minister Stresemann had secured loans
worth millions of dollars from American banks in order to boost its economy in the 1920s, and it had
an impact on Germany economically, socially and politically in the 1930s. The significance of this
impact can be measured by examining the sections of society impacted, the number of people
impacted and the duration. The economic impact was the first to be felt and also affected the majority
of Germans, along with the social impact. However, it was the resulting political impact that would
have a much greater and long lasting effect on Germany and its population. Therefore, it was overall
the most significant outcome. The impact of the Great Depression in Germany was significant because
the volume and nature of foreign trade was greatly affected. This is shown partly by the significant
decline in exports; in 1928 Germany exported £630m worth of goods, but by 1932 that figure had
fallen to just £280m. Imports also saw a drastic fall, as the German government wanted as many
products as possible to be produced within the country to protect the economy during the Great
Depression. In 1928,

Is The Narrator Unreliable In Bartleby The Scrivener
Is the Narrator Unreliable in Bartleby the Scrivener ? Melville created something new in Bartleby the
scrivener; as a well known story the narrator that tells the story is unreliable because he sounds bias to
one of the character in the story. For example from the book first clue he gives us comes in the first
sentence I am a rather elderly man . Instead of taking him right away as a wise old man who is giving
us the story straight, look for contradictions in his narration. His prudence and method might easily
translate into words like greedy or miserly. He claims to be mild mannered but is furious about the
abolition of his former job because he counted on doing little or no work, and making enormous
profits (Melville 406). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example from the book Even though he speaks of his compassion to his clerks Turkey and
Nippers, there is a way in which he might be completely out of touch with their actual needs and real
feelings. For instance, he does not seem to care about why his two employees become angry or
belligerent while working, but rather content that they do not rebel at the same time. A Narrator is just
a person. He is not a particularly kind and understanding man, nor is he an unusually outspoken one.
No, he is just well, just a man who is going about his life in the easiest way possible. introducing the
scrivener as he first appeared to me, it is fit I make some mention of myself, my employees, my
business, my chambers and general surroundings, because some such description is indispensable to
an adequate understanding of the chief character about to be presented. At the period just preceding
the advent of Bartleby, he had two persons as copyists in my employment, and a promising lad as an
office boy. First, Turkey; second, Nippers; third Ginger Nut these may seem names the like of which
are not usually found in the Directory. In truth, they were nicknames, mutually conferred upon each
other by my three clerks, and were deemed expressive of their respective persons or characters.

Persuasive Essay On Boxing
Boxing has elements to it that teaches you more about fighting than you think is possible. People who
have never tried it think that because boxing only involves using the hands/fists without any kicking
or other moves that it s not real fighting. Those who have tried boxing know that it s tough sport that
involves strict training and tough competition. It s genuine athletics that requires raw speed, stamina,
and power. Your reflexed in boxing need to be quick and that involves fast reaction time on the part of
the boxer.
All types of fighters from mixed martial arts should learn to box because they will benefit from it.
Even if the punches and techniques aren t interesting to you, it s still a good sport to learn and master.
It will improve your athletic performance, speed, stamina, and your reflexes and reaction time. It
builds confidence and gives you polished moves.
Here are 5 viable reasons why every fighter should get some boxing skills.
1. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Speedy Reflexes are important in boxing. Boxing matches are faster paced than other fighting/combat
sports. The opponents are closer in proximity with both attacking and defending at the same time. You
don t hear the bell, walk out and walk around in boxing. You step out and start fighting. Sure, that s
great for hand to hand, but what about with weapons or kicking? The techniques used in boxing
improve your reaction time and reflexes, which helps you be faster when you need to be, and teaches
you how to use your hands when you re without a weapon or unable to kick.
2. Master the Art of Slickness by learning to box. You can master the art of slickness known as the
sweet science of boxing. Art + Efficiency = Slickness. That s the equation. Being slick helps you
overwhelm and shutdown your opponent. While it s a rare occurrence, slickness looks like a beat
down with all the boxing combinations being thrown. It also gives you a way to show your own

Capital Markets And Strategic Issues Essay
Capital Markets and Strategic Issues in Fund Raising AAnswer Role of VCs in the company VC is a
type of private equity also a financing provided by firms to nascent stage, emerging firms that are
promising, show high growth potential (in terms of number of employees, annual revenue, or both).
VC firms invest in these mentioned companies in exchange of ownership stake. VCs take on the risk
of financing risky start ups thinking that some of the firms will be successful who they pursue. Start
ups are usually based on an innovative technology/business model and they are usually from the high
technology industries, such as information technology (IT), social media or biotechnology. In
exchange for high risk that venture capitalists assume by investing in smaller/startup companies, VCs
usually get significant control over company s management decisions, with companies ownership and
value. Obtaining VC is different from raising a loan. Lenders have a legal right to interest payment of
the principal irrespective of the business success/failure. VC is invested for an equity stake in the
business. The return of the VC as a shareholder depends on business growth /profit. Return is earned
when the venture capitalist exits . VCs are selective in deciding where to invest in; as a result, firms
are looking for the extremely rare yet sought after qualities such as innovative technology, potential
for rapid growth, a well developed business model and an impressive management team. Of

Policing Styles, Watchman, And Service Style
In today s society there are three types of policing styles and it tends to vary based on the community.
According to Kuykendall (1974), states that the style used in a community by law enforcement is
based on different expectations regarding role performance (Kuykendall, 1974). Each style is used to
maintain and enforce law and order in the community. The three policing styles that are used in the
community are legalistic, watchman, and service style. The legalistic style of policing is focused on
enforcing the law and resolving disputes by the book. It is also considered a reactive form of policing.
The watchman style policing focuses on maintaining order and preventing crime (Kuykendall, 1974).
The service style policing is focused on helping those in the community, instead of enforcing the laws.
The policing style that I believe is used in my community is the watchman and legalistic style. Both
policing style is used to enforce the law and maintain order in a culturally and ethnically diverse
community, by making arrest, keeping the peace and issuing citations. Question 2 In my opinion
detectives should wear plain clothes for all their assignments due to the fact that detectives do not
respond to calls where individuals are in need of their assistance so they do not need to be in uniform
to identify who they are. Another reason is when detectives are investigating a crime or meeting with

Effects Of Captive Enrichment On Fish Production Essay
Effects of Captive Enrichment on Fish Production: Fathead Minnows (Pimephales promelas)
Introduction
Environmental enrichment for fish in captive environments has not been studied often, unlike that of
mammals. However, in the last decade there have been more attempts to study it. Moreover, structural
environmental enrichment is the focal point at this time. Structural environmental enrichment is the
addition of a structure (e.g. toys, buoys, artificial vegetation) to the rearing environment (Naslund
Johnsson, 2014). Enrichment can affect a variety of aspects of the biology of captive fish, such as,
stress, injury, disease susceptibility, aggression, and energy expenditure (Gerber et al., 2015)). A recent
study conducted by Naslund and Johnsson (2014), found that environmental enrichment can be
divided into groups. These groups include: physical enrichment, sensory enrichment, dietary
enrichment, social enrichment, and occupational enrichment. Since, some of those are difficult to test,
physical enrichment is what is being studied now. All species of fish are not the same and prefer
certain substrates rather than others. Therefore, since the Fathead Minnows that we will be studying
and conducting this research on, will depend on what they prefer.
The goal of this study is to test whether captive enrichment effects the reproduction success of P.
promelas.
Background
Fat Head minnows can survive in a variety of environments such as creeks, headwaters, rivers, lakes,

Civilization today has become almost completely reliant on technology. Almost the entire planet is
connected by phone lines, roads, air travel, or the internet. People converse with others thousands of
miles away through modern connections, watch live broadcasts of news in foreign lands, or talk on
wireless phones by use of satellites. We are governed by laws designed to protect us. We live in heated
homes with fresh water and electricity. We commute to work by car or mass transit. We live by rules,
values, and ideals that keep the peace. Our world is organized, convenient, and technologically

Second, the conch is also a symbol of value. When Ralph first finds the conch, Piggy tells him that it
is valuable. This emphasis on value is not natural in uncivilized creatures. The idea of value is created
by society. The conch represents the value placed on things that are rare hard to obtain in our society,
much like a fancy car or an old work of art. With an emphasis on value comes feelings of jealousy and
envy. This is only natural and can be seen when Jack decides that the conch should only be used by
those he sees as worthy. For good or bad, the conch becomes the only tie to the concept of matieral
value that they boys have left.
Finally, the conch is also a symbol of power. This is because whoever holds it becomes the only
person who may speak during the meetings. In this context, holding the conch represents having
authority. Whoever holds the conch then has the authority to speak and all others must wait until it is
their turn to hold the conch. This is much like standing at the podium or holding the microphone in a
civilized society. Here the conch also represents the organization found in a democratic government
and the idea of raising one s hand in school. Both a democratic government and a school are
organizations that rely on the concept of everyone having a voice and a chance to express themselves.
The conch is the only link left to

Science vs. Nature as a Means of Obtaining Perfection in...
Although we may mask our insecurities with false confidence and bravado, deep down most people
crave perfection. As the majority of us learn as we age, this idea of perfection is unobtainable. The
older we get, the more we tend to accept the flaws and imperfections that make us individuals.
However, there are others who never learn the hard lesson of acceptance. Instead they spend
ridiculous amounts of money on surgeries, creams and concoctions in order to rid themselves of these
marks and insecurities. It s a constant battle, a fork in the road if you may, between science and nature.
On one side there s the high road of nature and acceptance, and on the other there s the scientific
shortcut that, in reality, just continues to mask the original problem. The Birthmark leads us to believe
that this is perhaps a topic Hawthorne struggled with himself. Hawthorne clearly displays his decided
distaste for science and its unnatural ways in his short story, The Birthmark.
Aylmer, the main character of the story, is a brilliant scientist/alchemist. He possesses a belief in man s
ultimate control over nature , and thinks there is nothing man can t overcome (Harun). His obsession
with his wife Georgiana s small birth mark, which resembles a hand, begins after they re married.
Aylmer is fixated with the idea of Georgiana s perfection; he believes that in order for him to
experience perfect love, he must have a perfect woman to love (Norman). His obsession and distaste

Earthquakes In North America
The southeastern United States should, by all means, be relatively quiet in terms of seismic activity. It
s located in the interior of the North American Plate, far away from plate boundaries where
earthquakes usually occur. But the area has seen some notable seismic events most recently, the 2011
magnitude 5.8 earthquake near Mineral, Virginia that shook the nation s capital.
Now scientists report in a new study a likely explanation for this unusual activity: pieces of the mantle
under this region have been periodically breaking off and sinking down into the Earth. This thins and
weakens the remaining plate, making it more prone to slipping that causes earthquakes. The study
authors conclude this process is ongoing and likely to produce more earthquakes in the future.
Our idea supports the view that this seismicity will continue due to unbalanced stresses in the plate, ...

At first, they thought the thick, old rocks could be remnants of ancient tectonic plates. But the shapes
and locations of the thick and thin regions suggested a different explanation: through past rifting and
accretion, areas of the North American Plate have become more dense and were pulled downward into
the mantle through gravity. At certain times, the densest parts broke off from the plate and sank into
the warm asthenosphere below. The asthenosphere, being lighter and more buoyant, surged in to fill
the void created by the missing pieces of mantle, eventually cooling to become the thin, young rock in
the images.
The researchers concluded this process is likely what causes earthquakes in this otherwise stable
region: when the pieces of the mantle break off, the plate above them becomes thinner and more prone
to slip along ancient fault lines. Typically, the thicker the plate, the stronger it is, and the less likely to
produce

Operant Conditioning And Continuous Reinforcement
1. Mr. Higginbotham uses the idea of operant conditioning and continuous reinforcement throughout
his classroom. Operant conditioning is the behavior in which voluntary behavior are strengthened or
weakened by consequences, while continuous reinforcement deals with giving a reinforcer after every
response. These reinforcers can be either positive or negative, strengthening or weakening the
behavior that occurred. Positive reinforcements are there to increase the opportunity of a specific
behavior reoccurring and negative reinforcement is strengthening behavior that results in a negative
action. (Woolfolk, 2014, pgs. 277 278). An example in Mr. Higginbotham s class of positive
reinforcement would be during the point in time when he decides to announce that his progress checks
can each be earned towards bonus points on their project and once ten complete progress checks have
occurred the children can also receive a homework pass. Another positive reinforcement is the three
highest scoring students will receive twenty five dollars to their class trip fund for their senior year. A
negative reinforcement is demonstrated in Mr. Higginbotham s class when Susan shows disrespectful
behavior and earns four detentions. These four detentions equal a day of indoor, in school suspension.
So even when students do not want to do their homework the progress report check will help the
students work towards that one homework pass. Both positive and negative reinforcement as

Differences Between The Book And In The Bedroom
The movie, In the Bedroom, and in the story, Killings, both type of media have very different tones.
The differences between the two tones initiates from the beginning of the movie and the story. The
movie, begins with a happier tone than the original story, where the tone originates from the funeral
scene. Within the book, Dubus uses foreshadowing that helps create the tone that suggests to the
reader something is coming. However, in contrast, the director of In the Bedroom, Todd Field, Field
started the movie with a happy and calm scene which usually implies a happy story, but later
devastates the audience with a series of killings. In the Killings, Dubus used foreshadowing
throughout the story to show the anger and the grief the family endured after Frank s murder. Dubus
decided to begin the story with Frank s funeral and the family s emotions and thoughts about Frank s
murderer, Richard Stout. Dubus showed the intensity of the family s hatred by adding quotes from the
family, such as; I should kill him. (1175). The author added several quotes like this, that described and
demonstrated the family s grief. Knowing how the characters felt gave the reader the ability to feel the

Impact Of The Internet On Public Sphere Essay
Despite its critics and some shortcomings early highlighted (Benson, 2009), the Habermas idea (and
an ideal, too) of a public sphere in which all individuals and opinions should have the opportunity to
democratically be engaged in community is an oft cited framework in order to better understand
media, democracy, and pluralism (Antony Thomas, 2010; García Canclini, 1992; Jurgen Habermas,
1964; Stein, 2006). In Habermas words, a well functioning public sphere implies an open
communication structures that permit and promote discussions oriented to self understanding (Jürgen
Habermas, 1994: 128). Press and newspapers were the traditional landscape in which to deploy
deliberation in the so called public sphere. Indeed, in traditional printed media, readers comments
have a delimited space and length through the editorial pages that used to explicitly contain the
community discussion, which had been also discussed in both Latin American and Chilean contexts
(Santa Cruz, 2011). However, regarding the new technologies, the impact of the Internet in news
production, and the shift in the role of audiences and content producers, audiences are no longer
restricted by largely elitist and inaccessible media systems (Antony Thomas, 2010: 1283). In fact,
technological developments such as the so called Web 2.0 challenge and complicate the vertical and
one way flow of information that characterizes traditional mediums, such printed newspapers and
broadcasting. So, recent

Journal Square History
New Jersey is full of places where historical events have occurred. One of these places is Journal
Square, which is located in Jersey City, NJ. Its history starts when the Lenni Lenape Indians first
settled there, however, the time period of when the Lenape Indians first came is unknown. In the
1650s, General Peter Stuyvesant had everyone under his rule. Two years later, Stuyvesant engineered
the purchase of most of present day Hudson County from the Indians in return for some materials. On
November 1660, the Dutch moved in and claimed Bergen Square (now known as Journal Square) to
be their place of settlement. A wall was built to help protect their community from any dangers that
may occur from the outside world. The Dutch settlers strictly spoke Dutch. The community was
preserved that way until the 1920s. Bergen Square is the first and earliest area in New Jersey to have a
permanent settlement. Journal Square s history goes from the Lenni Lenape Indians to Peter ... Show

The Courthouse opened its doors on September 10, 1910. The building cost $3.3 million and remained
at the center of the Hudson County judicial system until 1953 when a second structure was erected and
the original building was closed. It was destined for demolition in the 1970s, but again, local
preservationists stepped in to save it. The original building was restored and reopened in 1985.
Journal Square is rich in history. It has changed in many ways, but at the same time, it has stayed
similar to the way it was. Some sites were replaced over and over again, but still remain in place till
now. It is significant to know the background history behind the area you live in because you never
know what historical events might have occurred in that area or what historical figure was in what is
now a school or something else. Journal Square s history goes from theatres to banks to houses to
schools to courthouses. It has a never ending

Media And Mass Media Deviance
Media is the most effective method of mass communication. There are many different sources of mass
media; broadcast, advertising, digital, hypermedia, interactive, multimedia, new media, news media,
print media, published media, recorded media and social media(Dictionary.com 2017). Considering all
the different forms media can take, it isn t all too shocking that media has had an influence on deviant
behaviors. The media s influence though, is attributed to promoting deviance rather than reducing it.
When individuals contemplate the term deviance, they often think of it as behavior that is inherently
bad. Contrary to that belief, deviance is described as a behavior that departs from the social constructs
of a society(Thio 2010). Deviance, criminal or not, is commonly used amongst mass media to
entertain their viewers. The media relies on their audience s inherent social constructs to make a profit.
Without the meanings attached to these deviant behaviors, there wouldn t be any motive behind
showing them. All things considered, what the media covers and how much they chose to cover has
significantly changed over the years, the most apparent in crime coverage. This consistent coverage of
crime gives the audience an opportunity to interact with the media. They can feel a part of the
intensity of an investigation, cheer on the enforcers, become immersed in their stereotypes. On the
other hand, they can appreciate deviance for its resilience to overcome and resist

Jonah 4
The message of Jonah 4 has direct application when teaching on (1) grace and (2) forgiveness. The
message of grace is most obvious throughout the Book of Jonah since Jonah received grace when he
disobeyed the command of YHWH and Nineveh receives grace rather than judgment from YHWH. As
regards forgiveness the message of Jonah 4 is often echoed in the preaching and parables of Jesus
when he reminds his audience that God has forgiven them and therefore they should forgive others.
If the message of Jonah 4 peaks at vv. 6 7 then part of this message of grace must be the sovereignty
of God. Jonah thinks that God should show him grace because he is a Hebrew (as is made most
evident in chapter 2). God think Nineveh should not receive grace because

What Is Human Trafficking
Tony Kirwan, founder of Destiny rescue, a relief and aid organization for trafficking victims, said that,
We only have 2 choices. Do nothing, or do something. Nearly 36 million people are trafficked yearly,
and ⅔ of those people are from Asia. A large amount of these victims were impoverished and were
looking for work to support their families, or were trafficked by their own families for money. Human
trafficking, mostly child trafficking, is a billion dollar business, with earnings estimated at 150 billion
yearly, in all of it s forms. Human trafficking hasn t and will never be limited to sexual exploitation,
but has a myriad of other types of exploitation. Human trafficking has been a system that runs off

Human trafficking does benefit and thrive off equality, whether it s social, gender, economic, or racial.
In countries with social class inequality, like India with its caste system, the lower social classes are
more likely to be trafficked because the system was already set against them. With that, women are
also more likely to be trafficked, because of the inequality and looming threat of being disposable.
These traffickers must have a mean, act, and purpose to traffick adults, but only a mean and act for
minors/children. The mean is the method of transportation, the act is coercion or forcing, and purpose
is what will happen once they are trafficked. Purposes can be sexual exploitation, forced marriage,
forced labor, indentured servitude, and petty crime. Countries are ranked in tiers with tier one meaning
full compliance with the preset standards. and tier 3 meaning no effort put in to comply with
standards. The only solution we have to stop trafficking is create more sanctions and stricter penalties
for traffickers, let organizations such as USAID and MCC allow to educate others on what human
trafficking is and how to prevent it, and apply more resources or relief aids to human trafficking
victims. By allowing other countries to create their own laws specifically tailored to their culture and

Explain What Number Of Natural Selenium Contain Six Stable...
3.
Samples of natural selenium contain six stable isotopes. these isotopes have the same number of
proton electrons in each atom they differ in the number of neutrons in each atom, the atomic mass,
their nuclear stability
Electron configuration 1S2, 2S2, 2P6, 3s2, 3p6, 4s2, 3d10, 4p4
Indicate the number of unpaired electrons in the ground state atom it has 2 unpaired electrons in the 4P
orbital. in a chemical reaction it is likely to take 2 electrons become Se 2 or likely to do 2 covalent
bond with other atom. it is also likely to lose all 6 electrons in its valence shell become a +6, or fewer
electrons become +4 or a +2 just as sulfur does above it in the same group.
It is easier for it to lose electrons than it is for Br, this is because Br has the same atomic radius (115
pm) as does Se, but Br more protons to hold its electrons from being taken, itso has a stronger pull for
its own electrons and greater than that of tellurium. Se has a strong hold on its electrons, because it is
a smaller atom than Te, with Te s valence electrons further out the strength with which they are held

Ethics And Ethical Issues In Medical Volunteering
Medical volunteerism is an activity where someone or a group of people does a task in the medical
field voluntarily without pay, particularly in an underdeveloped country that is lacking medical
professionals. This topic relates to a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathmatics) class this

arise from this topic. There are countless discussion questions of who benefits from medical

a perspective of what it really means to be that funny girl. So when did women become funny ? I

Non Traditional Students
According to current estimates approximately 75 percent of college students are now nontraditional
students older than 25, attending school part time, and having delayed entry or reentry into college for
a variety of personal reasons. Post secondary education is needed by such students to develop their
careers and to acquire knowledge and skills required by a constantly changing global society. This
trend is not restricted to North America; it is a worldwide phenomenon.
Over the years, these nontraditionals have chosen either slower or faster options to proceed through

Then, teachers must reach goals using diverse methods and techniques which engage the student and
make the learning process interesting. Though methods vary, a problem or task centered approach is
generally considered superior to a subject matter approach. Students and professors may work
together to co create knowledge. Work in teams is an often used strategy because it replicates the
experiences of nontraditional students in the workplace. Additionally, teachers work to reduce time
and place restrictions for the nontraditional student that would limit that person s access to course
materials and assignments; asynchronous online options easily break down such barriers.
Furthermore, flexible access to student services has become more common over time. Clearer and
more accessible information now exists on institutions and the specific programs needed for planning
degrees and careers. Programs for nontraditional learners provide orientation workshops to reacquaint
applicants with the rigors of college level study, and to reduce anxiety about reentry after a prolonged
period of time. Some of these programs offer remedial classes to help the student re learn or improve
study skills. The availability of financial aid information has improved greatly over time.
Critics contend that the influx of nontraditionals into the college student market has accelerated a

POSSIBLE SOURCES OF COST DATA
We are requested to assist the building with creating a method of construction cost data for client

wide variations. Based upon our experience as quantity surveyors we chose to develop a cost data
collection method. Our define construction line items and quantities for relativity building types.
The method that provides the best opportunity for cost data collection was noted as the Bills of
Quantity method. This method appears to have advantages over the other methods but yet even with
the Bills of Quantity method some potential pitfalls exist.
A Bill of Quantity is basically a listing by trade of certain construction components that make up the
total project. The project may be a building. The Bill of Quantity documents quantities for each
element of the building type such as cubic meters of concrete foundations or square meters of roofing
material. Bill of Quantity is used frequently to assist in developing tenders or bids for projects. The
Bill of Quantity will be provided by the quantity surveyor. Once the quantity of concrete footing is
known a unit price to cover for material, labor and equipment is applied to develop the cost of each
line item or component. The total project is basically include of all the individual line items.

New Testament Usage of Wisdom In the New Testament, words like wisdom and wisely are translated

The Act Of Texas And The Sunset Advisory Commission ( Sac )
In 2013, a proposal was written by a branch of the Texas state government called the Sunset Advisory
Commission (SAC). This proposal would, if made into law, deregulate 14,568 respiratory therapists
(RTs) currently employed in Texas (Gaebler 6). This would mean that RTs along with 18 other
programs would not have to hold a state license to practice their craft (Sunset 52). Deregulation may
sound like a good idea on paper, however in practice, it is anything but. The potential negative
outcomes in the form of patient harm and possible death would far outweigh any benefit. Deregulation
of respiratory therapists in Texas began in the government as a proposal, was fought against by those
who say the potential danger in the idea, then ended back in the government with a compromise that
was written into law. In May of 2014, the SAC released a report. This report states that the
commission felt that RTs along with several other professions should no longer be regulated by an
agency of the government called the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) (52). One of the
many responsibilities of the DSHS is providing state licensure to individuals of various job disciplines
which both can and do have an impact on public health (43). The SAC brings up a few key points in

established around the 1800 s, when Hawaii started recruiting laborers from all over the globe to work
on the sugar plantations. The laborers consisted of people from China, Portugal, Japan, Korea, Puerto
Rico, Russia, Spain, the Philippines, and other countries (Hargrove, Sakota, and Siegel 1). Since there
were such a diverse group of people, they all spoke different languages. Which made it hard for them
to communicate. Thus, Hawai i creole english was soon developed and became the primary source of
communication among all the different ethnic groups (Thompson 1). During the plantations, the
children born during that time period were starting to attend school. That is when many of them first
came into contact with standard english, since majority of them already spoke hawaii pidgin (Scanlan

Napoleon III s Impact On France And Germany
Napoleon III and Bismarck both had huge impacts on France and Germany respectively. Both men
had great diplomatic skills and strong personalities which lead to all sorts of reforms within their
nation. Both men are known for their leadership skills and for the Franco Prussian war, and even
though the war technically ended by military means, both of their diplomatic skills had major impacts
on the dynamic and outcome of the war. It is unclear to many how the war ended with a Prussian
victory; and this is an attempt to explain what led to the war, and how those factors resulted into a
Prussian victory.
Napoleon III was born on April 20th 1808 as Charles Louis Napoleon Bonaparte. His father is
Napoleon s younger brother, making him one of Napoleon s nephews. After the imprisonment of
Napoleon after Waterloo in 1815, he and his family were forced into exile by the French returning

death of Napoleon s only son and the death of his own older brother made him the apparent heir to
claim. He took the claim very seriously, and even attempted multiple coups to gain power, all of which
failed and sentenced to prison. His chance to power came when the last king of France was forced to

Corporate Strategies
Corporate Strategy
Strategy relates to the scope and domain of a corporation s activities and the main issues to use while
evaluating its success. Activity pattern in the strategy is on resource acquisition, commitment and
allocation in accordance to an organization s need, environment, management network and intended
goals(Chew Sharma, 2006).
Corporate Strategy and Culture
An organization s culture creates an important link between the organization s strategy, human
resource management and the human resource. According to Chew Sharma, 2006, organization culture
refers to how things in an organization are undertaken in the normal course work. It is therefore;
correct to say that an organization s culture refers to that aspect about an organization that makes it
uniquely different from other organizations.
Given that organization culture is linked to its strategy, it is clear to say that corporate strategy

The Role Of Performance Enhancing Drugs In Professional...
If you are an avid sports fan and there is a chance to make superstar athletes whom you admire much

have been a very controversial topic ever since American professional athletes introduced them into
the sports world during the 1990 s. Many athletes have experimented with these drugs over their
careers and have been tested, and ultimately caught, but does this really put the MLB in the direction

Some athletes are hard workers, and others use PEDs, but players will do anything possible to gain an
advantage over their opponents. Because of this known fact, Higher level athletes are always going to
do everything they can to get an edge, to beat the competition, and extend their shorts careers
(Kolosky). Players careers are relatively short due to injury or fatigue. If players were to use steroids,
their bodies can recover from injury at a faster rate and build up more strength to avoid fatigue. Fans
may complain about how player statistics from different eras are now not comparable, but it s
important to note that historical statistics are already antiquated. Baseball has changed over time, so
records set by Babe Ruth or Roger Maris are obsolete. Rule changes radically modified baseball at the
end of the deadball era, ... Simply put, professional sports have evolved so much over the years that it
s mostly nonsense to directly compare statistics across eras, regardless of steroid use (Smith). This
implies that because of the more frequent use of steroids among players, it is now not possible to
correctly compare players from decades ago to the modern day stars, but with of all the rule changes
and defensive schemes used, it would not be possible to compare players anyways; even without
PEDs. Finally, many critics believe that an unfair level of play is created because of the handful of
innocent players but if we really want to level the playing field, it may be time to head in the other
direction, legalize performance enhancers... Not only would the playing field suddenly be even for all
players, it would be at a higher level (Smith). A proposed solution underscores the fact that if all

Highschool Drug Testing
Drug testing
These are my three reasons why high school athletes should be tested for the enhancement in drugs.
My first statement is how many deaths there was and still are from drugs. My second point of view is
how it can affect you and teammates. This is why we should have drug testing when it comes to
athletes.
According to rasmussen.edu there are roughly 3.2 percent of high school Athletes that have been using
steroids or taken shots with out doctors permission. There was a story in the New York times article
Differing Views on Value of High School Tests that had triggered people s attention. Taylor Hooton a
17 year old lived in Plano, Tex., Had committed suicide in 2003. This was a very shocking moment
Taylor was a baseball player, and was very athletic. It was said that his father was the one who started
the the testing drugs in high school. Nothing was said about his mother as far as I know from my
knowledge is that she was very shocked.
Fox 13 salt lake city reporter Caroline Collonny, had a story on a hockey team that held silence for a

Yes you may say what if you need it for sports? Like in some cases you would need it for allergies, but
it should not be used without a doctor s permission. Even one drug can kill you depending on how
strong it is. Even one drug no matter what it is you can still kill yourself. I understand if you are at
home sick, and you are running a fever, but if you use it all the time then no that is just wrong. That
will just leave you to depression, then to eventually killing yourself and that had happened to a lot of

Lake s Healing Room Ministry Essay
Once he returned to the United States, he remarried, and began a traveling ministry. One of the places
he was asked to speak was Spokane, Washington. He was asked to start a healings room, and he
agreed. Over an approximately five year period, over 100,000 healings were reported. Spokane was
declared the healthiest city in the United States . Although Lake s church was never large, thousands
came from all over the country and the world to receive prayer. In 1920, he felt called to move to
Portland, Oregon and start a healing room ministry there. Similar healings were reported during these
years as well. Lake started a healing rooms ministry on the West Coast. His strength was becoming
weaker because he lived a life of Lake considered starting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Seeing the power of God, Lake began to cry out for more of the Holy Spirit. He spent nine months
seeking a fuller level of the presence of God. Lake went, with another man to pray for a sick woman.
God s presence fell on and over him like he d never known before. The next six months were marked
by conviction, repentance, and heart cleansing. The gifts of the Spirit became magnified, and the
discernment and healing giftings increased dramatically. Lake was receiving training under John
Alexander Dowie, but did not always agree with his way of doing things. At one point, Dowie listed
his accomplishments and told him If you ever develop constructive qualities, equal to your critical
capacity, you will be a greater man than I am. John Lake knew that he would have to start his own
work. He felt called to Africa and went there in 1908, after a short term pastoring stint in Indianapolis.
Over a five year period in South Africa Lake saw 1,000,000 converts, planted hundreds of churches,
and raised up over 1000 local ministers. The work was vigorous, however, and his wife died in
December 1908. He committed to keep his family together. In 1913 Lake returned to the United
States, with his seven

Anterior Cruciate Ligar Research Paper
Mrs. Bacon
English 1301
29 October 2015
Anterior Cruciate Ligament Tears Injuries occur everyday is the sport s world; they range anywhere
from a sprained ankle to paralysis. In many sports, such as volleyball or basketball, the injuries that
occur usually happen to the lower half of the body. Over the years, certain injuries have become more
common, such as ACL injuries. A torn ACL is not only one of the most common seen injuries in the
sports world, but it is also very easy to diagnose; however, it is a long road back to recovery. Out of
the many ligaments, muscles, and tendons in the knee, the ACL is the most common to injure. The
ACL, or anterior cruciate ligament, is a vital ligamentous stabilizer of the knee that resists anterior ...

The next step, if one chooses, is surgery and recovery. To repair the ligament, most surgeons will take
part of another tendon, which has similar tissue to a ligament, in the leg and pull it through a tunnel
that is drilled through the tibia into the femur ( ACL Tears and Reconstruction ). After surgery, a
patient usually begins physical therapy three to four days after the procedure. Physical therapy helps
strengthen the muscles, tendons, and ligaments in the knee that were affected by the accident. In order
to get back to normal as soon as possible, a patient needs to attend physical therapy two or three times
a week for about ten weeks. After that time is up, depending on the progress of the patient, the
therapist will reduce the appointments to once a week. As the patient continues to strengthen and
progress, he or she will be allowed to start performing more advanced things. For example, most
patients will have to start doing ten minute jogs to gradually get the knee used to impact again. A full
recovery usually takes about six or seven months, for athletes coming back to sports. This process of
time may be lengthened depending on the patient. Athletes who try to return early are at an extremely
high risk of tearing the ACL again. Full recovery for an athlete can include, being able to play with
contact or jump and dive. Although a patient is released to play his or her sport again, that does not
mean the patients knee is completely back to normal again. For instance, the athlete will need to a
wear a knee brace for any type of physical activity for at least a year after returning back to

The Ecology Of Commerce By Environmentalist Paul Hawken
Part I: Introduction
The Ecology of Commerce, written by Environmentalist Paul Hawken, is an insightful, although
daunting, look into economic and corporate sustainability. The first rule of sustainability is to align
with natural forces, or at least not try to defy them . This quote, spoken by Paul Hawken himself, is a
perfect demonstration of the major theme he carefully analyzes within the book. Economics and the
environment are two words that you often don t see in the same sentence, despite the fact that the
influence economics has contributes to the deterioration of our environment gravely.
Part II: Background and Thesis Paul Hawken studies the many faults of the economic practices we
adhere to globally. Whether or not we agree with his beliefs is a decision we as readers need to make.
While an understanding of the environmental impacts is evident, as well as the biological changes it
has put forth on humans, I question if individual change really makes a difference to the environment
and the overall way the economy works. Hawken demonstrates a clear explanation to back up his
statement of absolute resource destruction, but I believe he underestimates the change that may need
to be done. I strongly believe we have reached a point in time where individual change is
inadmissible, and in order to save our planet, large corporations and their accountability should be
questioned. A world without sustainability, or more importantly a world without economic integrity,

The Constitutional And Statutory History Of The Right
To understand the present scope of the right to a trial by jury in civil actions, it is necessary to examine
the constitutional and statutory history of the right. The United States Constitution has preserved the
right to a jury trial in [s]uits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty
dollars. The New York Constitution provides for trial by jury in civil actions in all cases in which it
has heretofore been guaranteed. In addition to the constitutional right, this right has been further
codified in CPLR Section 4101. The cases in which jury trials are required are generally those actions
that evolved through the common law courts versus those developed in the equity courts, which are
tried by the court alone.
Courts of equity were the Chancery courts and existed historically as an entirely separate department
from the Supreme Court, imitating the historical arrangement in place in England. A primary reason
for the development of the Chancery courts was to provide a means of redress where the common law
provided an inadequate remedy or no remedy at all. In equity, generally the court s power is to direct
someone to act or to forbear from acting, which circumstances clearly cannot be redressed by the
award of money damages.
In New York, with the passage of the 1846 Constitution, law and equity were merged so that
jurisdiction could be had by the same tribunal regardless of the nature of the suit. Legal and equitable
jurisdictions

Era Pros And Cons
Almost fifty years after drafting the ERA, the Democratic party united behind its passage. On August
10th, Martha Griffiths (D Michigan) succeeded in getting the House of Representatives to pass the
ERA on a bipartisan vote of 350 15. The bill would not pass both chambers during the 91st Congress
and had to be reintroduced the next year during the 92nd Congress. The vote in the House in March,
1971 was 354 23 in favor of passage. On March 22, 1972 the Senate voted 84 8 in favor of the ERA,
finally passing the ERA and sending it to the States for ratification. The initial deadline for ratification
of the ERA by the states was set for five years, but would eventually be extended to June 30, 1982.

On January 24th, 1977 Indiana became what would be the final state to ratify the ERA. On July 10th,
1977 Alice Paul, who had been so instrumental in the cause of Suffrage and the ERA died at the age of
92. At the time of her death thirty five states had voted to ratify. One of the states that ratified the ERA
in one chamber, but not the other was North Carolina. Writing in the Spring 1978 edition of Signs
Theodore S. Arrington and Patricia A. Kyle break down the debate. Circulating a questionnaire, they
found that men most supportive of the ERA were liberal activist Democrats and anti ERA men were
Republican activists . By a vote of only three votes in 1975 in North Carolina. The culture among
Republican supporters of the late 70s had shifted away from those who first embraced the ERA in
1940. While the New England states, Rust Belt and Pacific Northwest had been uniform in their
support for the ERA, the only State of the former Confederacy to ratify the ERA was Texas, which
was an early supporter of the ERA, ratifying in 1972. Also in 1972 an Illinois Republican activist,
Phyllis Schlafly would begin her crusade against the ERA in a February 1972 article in her
eponymously named Phyllis Schlafly Report newsletter entitled: What s Wrong with Equal

Wang Lung s Lesson
Wang Lung s uncle s son returns to the house from the war that he went to in the north to become a
soldier. Well now he is the head of his unit and they are assigned to live in Wang Lung s village for
days, months, or even years. Describe the impact of this person s return. Everything is a mess as there
are soldiers everywhere in the house. All the women need to be kept in the inner courts of the house,
and watched at all times of the day. Also if some rebelled against their stay they would kill that person,
like how the shop keeper rebelled at the soldiers who took over his house and in return the soldiers
stabbed him. So it is serious as everyone in the village need to do whatever they tell them to do. What

The Threat Of The Atomic Bomb
Very few events in human history will be remembered forever. Everyday things such as driving to
work or spending time with a loved one, will all soon be part of the past. Even seemingly horrifying
events that in the present seem to cause chaos, such as a wildfire that destroys thousands of homes, or
a plane crash that tears apart many families will be forgotten by humanity in a comparably short
amount of time. The atomic bomb is one of the few events that will forever be remembered by people
all over the world for the remainder of human history. Robert Oppenheimer, the main scientist in
building the bomb, will be remembered as the person who created the most devastating weapon ever
used in combat. The destruction that was caused by the bomb was mainly felt in the country of Japan,
but its impact spread throughout the world. Ending World War II was made possible by the U.S.
government, and their crucial decision to drop Oppenheimer s atomic device onto the cities of
Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Soon after, the once destructive device was forbidden to be used for any
reason and nuclear power plants were developed to make use of the unique power. The dropping of the
atomic bomb had a much greater impact on the world than just its immediate destruction. Robert
Oppenheimer, the man behind the atomic bomb, grew up in the early 1900s in New York City
(Rummel 13). Oppenheimer s American journey started long before he was born. His father, Julius,
immigrated in 1888 from

  • 2. Stress And Oxidative Stress Aerobic organisms need molecular oxygen (O2) for respiration or oxidation of nutrients to obtain energy. There are some reactive by products of cellular respiration, derived from molecular oxygen, that are generated continuously in cells grown aerobically, such as hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) superoxide anion radical (O2 ), and the highly reactive hydroxyl radicals (OH).These reactive oxygen species (ROS) are essential for various functions such as homeostasis and cell signaling but an imbalance in favor of reactive oxygen species results in oxidative stress (OS) (Kashmiri et al.,2014). Oxidative stress (OS) result in interference in the functioning of biological systems that maintain levels of environmentally produced reactive oxygen species (ROS), by readily detecting and detoxifying them (Lucana et al., 2012). Living organisms have adopted mechanisms to protect themselves against oxidative stress, by producing enzymes such as catalase and superoxide dismutase, small proteins like thioredoxin and glutaredoxin, and molecules such as glutathione ( Cabiscol et al.,1999). Metallo enzymes such as superoxide dismutases are the primary antioxidant enzymes that protect cells from oxidative damage of superoxide radicals, by catalyzing dismutation of superoxide (O2 ) to hydrogen peroxide and oxygen. Superoxide dismutases, as name suggests dismutes superoxide. Dismutation reaction is that in which two equal but opposite reactions occur on two separate molecules. SOD takes two ... However, as we continue to read, we learn that Hazel is terminally ill, which is a form of illness that cannot be cured, therefore she will be dying at any point. Since the people that are extremely ill, there comes a decision to make. The decisions that the patient has to decide is to continue suffering or Euthanasia. Euthanasia is mostly an illegal thing throughout the United States, but, however there are only five states and a single county in New Mexico that actually legalized it. I think it might be one of those processes that take a while to get unified in all fifty states, for example Gay Marriage. I am not saying pick a side or what not, my point is that process took many years to develop and come up with reasoning behind it. My belief for Euthanasia is you have a life and you live it the way you do, but if you cannot decide to do it, then fine. Every person in this world was brought into this world for a reason, whether you are smart or dumb, you have a reason why you are here today, so go out and do something amazing while you can because life is all about doing things you love to do. With the beliefs of the Roman Catholic Church and a Christian s perspective, different types of costs impacting the GDP (Gross Domestic Product), and the pain suffering from a terminally illness, there needs to be a plan to get Euthanasia legal and unified in all fifty ... Explain your answer, using sources 1, 2 and 3 and your own knowledge of the issues related to this controversy. There has been some controversy as to what or who was to blame for the outbreak of the First World War. Some people have taken the opinion that the war arose as a result of planned German aggression such as sources two and three, whereas source one is of the opinion that the Germans went to war with defensive intentions and that they didn t have any special plan to dominate Europe . It can be argued that the Schlieffen Plan was openly rigid and brittle which meant that the Germans had no choice ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, I know from my own knowledge that the German s invented the Schlieffen Plan, a German battle plan that was made many years prior to 1914 as a way to prevent a war on two fronts, implying that they would be at war at some point. This shows aggressive intent and would contradict the views of source 1 and the statement above, and yet agree with those of source two. Furthermore source 3 presents the idea that there was inevitability and necessity for war, thus showing us that Germany was indeed preparing for this and doing so through their aggressive nature. As well as this, the war was also influenced by other ideas presented by this source, for example: the recovery by France of Alsace Lorraine and the securing for Russia of Constantinople and the Straits. This would contradict the points that were earlier made about German s aggression shining through and would in fact suggest to us that they had no other alternative but to try and take back what the believed to be theirs. In addition to this, there was indeed another big factor in the beginning of war which is presented by source 3, and that was the British concern that the coast of Belgium should not be occupied by a hostile power . Once again we could interpret this is two ways, one being that it was the British that then made the first move regarding the outbreak of war because of this reason which would therefore ... • 6. Economic Impact On Germany The impact of the Great Depression in Germany was significant because it affected virtually every section of German society, and was significant both in the short and long term. The Great Depression was caused by the Wall Street Crash in the USA in October 1929. Germany was disproportionately affected compared to other European countries, as Foreign Minister Stresemann had secured loans worth millions of dollars from American banks in order to boost its economy in the 1920s, and it had an impact on Germany economically, socially and politically in the 1930s. The significance of this impact can be measured by examining the sections of society impacted, the number of people impacted and the duration. The economic impact was the first to be felt and also affected the majority of Germans, along with the social impact. However, it was the resulting political impact that would have a much greater and long lasting effect on Germany and its population. Therefore, it was overall the most significant outcome. The impact of the Great Depression in Germany was significant because the volume and nature of foreign trade was greatly affected. This is shown partly by the significant decline in exports; in 1928 Germany exported £630m worth of goods, but by 1932 that figure had fallen to just £280m. Imports also saw a drastic fall, as the German government wanted as many products as possible to be produced within the country to protect the economy during the Great Depression. In 1928, ... Melville created something new in Bartleby the scrivener; as a well known story the narrator that tells the story is unreliable because he sounds bias to one of the character in the story. For example from the book first clue he gives us comes in the first sentence I am a rather elderly man . Instead of taking him right away as a wise old man who is giving us the story straight, look for contradictions in his narration. His prudence and method might easily translate into words like greedy or miserly. Capital Markets And Strategic Issues Essay Capital Markets and Strategic Issues in Fund Raising AAnswer Role of VCs in the company VC is a type of private equity also a financing provided by firms to nascent stage, emerging firms that are promising, show high growth potential (in terms of number of employees, annual revenue, or both). VC firms invest in these mentioned companies in exchange of ownership stake. VCs take on the risk of financing risky start ups thinking that some of the firms will be successful who they pursue. Start ups are usually based on an innovative technology/business model and they are usually from the high technology industries, such as information technology (IT), social media or biotechnology. In exchange for high risk that venture capitalists assume by investing in smaller/startup companies, VCs usually get significant control over company s management decisions, with companies ownership and value. Obtaining VC is different from raising a loan. Lenders have a legal right to interest payment of the principal irrespective of the business success/failure. VC is invested for an equity stake in the business. The return of the VC as a shareholder depends on business growth /profit. Return is earned when the venture capitalist exits . VCs are selective in deciding where to invest in; as a result, firms are looking for the extremely rare yet sought after qualities such as innovative technology, potential for rapid growth, a well developed business model and an impressive management team. According to Kuykendall (1974), states that the style used in a community by law enforcement is based on different expectations regarding role performance (Kuykendall, 1974). Each style is used to maintain and enforce law and order in the community. The three policing styles that are used in the community are legalistic, watchman, and service style. The legalistic style of policing is focused on enforcing the law and resolving disputes by the book. Both policing style is used to enforce the law and maintain order in a culturally and ethnically diverse community, by making arrest, keeping the peace and issuing citations. Question 2 In my opinion detectives should wear plain clothes for all their assignments due to the fact that detectives do not respond to calls where individuals are in need of their assistance so they do not need to be in uniform to identify who they are. • 11. Effects Of Captive Enrichment On Fish Production Essay Effects of Captive Enrichment on Fish Production: Fathead Minnows (Pimephales promelas) Introduction Environmental enrichment for fish in captive environments has not been studied often, unlike that of mammals. However, in the last decade there have been more attempts to study it. Moreover, structural environmental enrichment is the focal point at this time. Structural environmental enrichment is the addition of a structure (e.g. toys, buoys, artificial vegetation) to the rearing environment (Naslund Johnsson, 2014). Enrichment can affect a variety of aspects of the biology of captive fish, such as, stress, injury, disease susceptibility, aggression, and energy expenditure (Gerber et al., 2015)). A recent study conducted by Naslund and Johnsson (2014), found that environmental enrichment can be divided into groups. These groups include: physical enrichment, sensory enrichment, dietary enrichment, social enrichment, and occupational enrichment. Since, some of those are difficult to test, physical enrichment is what is being studied now. All species of fish are not the same and prefer certain substrates rather than others. Therefore, since the Fathead Minnows that we will be studying and conducting this research on, will depend on what they prefer. The goal of this study is to test whether captive enrichment effects the reproduction success of P. promelas. This emphasis on value is not natural in uncivilized creatures. The idea of value is created by society. With an emphasis on value comes feelings of jealousy and envy. This is only natural and can be seen when Jack decides that the conch should only be used by those he sees as worthy. For good or bad, the conch becomes the only tie to the concept of matieral value that they boys have left. Finally, the conch is also a symbol of power. This is because whoever holds it becomes the only person who may speak during the meetings. In this context, holding the conch represents having authority. Whoever holds the conch then has the authority to speak and all others must wait until it is their turn to hold the conch. This is much like standing at the podium or holding the microphone in a civilized society. • 13. Science vs. Nature as a Means of Obtaining Perfection in... Although we may mask our insecurities with false confidence and bravado, deep down most people crave perfection. As the majority of us learn as we age, this idea of perfection is unobtainable. The older we get, the more we tend to accept the flaws and imperfections that make us individuals. However, there are others who never learn the hard lesson of acceptance. Instead they spend ridiculous amounts of money on surgeries, creams and concoctions in order to rid themselves of these marks and insecurities. It s a constant battle, a fork in the road if you may, between science and nature. On one side there s the high road of nature and acceptance, and on the other there s the scientific shortcut that, in reality, just continues to mask the original problem. The Birthmark leads us to believe that this is perhaps a topic Hawthorne struggled with himself. Hawthorne clearly displays his decided distaste for science and its unnatural ways in his short story, The Birthmark. Aylmer, the main character of the story, is a brilliant scientist/alchemist. He possesses a belief in man s ultimate control over nature , and thinks there is nothing man can t overcome (Harun). His obsession with his wife Georgiana s small birth mark, which resembles a hand, begins after they re married. It s located in the interior of the North American Plate, far away from plate boundaries where earthquakes usually occur. But the area has seen some notable seismic events most recently, the 2011 magnitude 5.8 earthquake near Mineral, Virginia that shook the nation s capital. Now scientists report in a new study a likely explanation for this unusual activity: pieces of the mantle under this region have been periodically breaking off and sinking down into the Earth. This thins and weakens the remaining plate, making it more prone to slipping that causes earthquakes. The study authors conclude this process is ongoing and likely to produce more earthquakes in the future. Our idea supports the view that this seismicity will continue due to unbalanced stresses in the plate, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At first, they thought the thick, old rocks could be remnants of ancient tectonic plates. But the shapes and locations of the thick and thin regions suggested a different explanation: through past rifting and accretion, areas of the North American Plate have become more dense and were pulled downward into the mantle through gravity. At certain times, the densest parts broke off from the plate and sank into the warm asthenosphere below. The asthenosphere, being lighter and more buoyant, surged in to fill the void created by the missing pieces of mantle, eventually cooling to become the thin, young rock in the images. The researchers concluded this process is likely what causes earthquakes in this otherwise stable region: when the pieces of the mantle break off, the plate above them becomes thinner and more prone to slip along ancient fault lines. Typically, the thicker the plate, the stronger it is, and the less likely to produce ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Operant Conditioning And Continuous Reinforcement 1. Mr. Higginbotham uses the idea of operant conditioning and continuous reinforcement throughout his classroom. Operant conditioning is the behavior in which voluntary behavior are strengthened or weakened by consequences, while continuous reinforcement deals with giving a reinforcer after every response. These reinforcers can be either positive or negative, strengthening or weakening the behavior that occurred. Positive reinforcements are there to increase the opportunity of a specific behavior reoccurring and negative reinforcement is strengthening behavior that results in a negative action. (Woolfolk, 2014, pgs. 277 278). An example in Mr. Higginbotham s class of positive reinforcement would be during the point in time when he decides to announce that his progress checks can each be earned towards bonus points on their project and once ten complete progress checks have occurred the children can also receive a homework pass. Another positive reinforcement is the three highest scoring students will receive twenty five dollars to their class trip fund for their senior year. A negative reinforcement is demonstrated in Mr. Higginbotham s class when Susan shows disrespectful behavior and earns four detentions. These four detentions equal a day of indoor, in school suspension. So even when students do not want to do their homework the progress report check will help the students work towards that one homework pass. Both positive and negative reinforcement as continuous ... The differences between the two tones initiates from the beginning of the movie and the story. The movie, begins with a happier tone than the original story, where the tone originates from the funeral scene. Within the book, Dubus uses foreshadowing that helps create the tone that suggests to the reader something is coming. However, in contrast, the director of In the Bedroom, Todd Field, Field started the movie with a happy and calm scene which usually implies a happy story, but later devastates the audience with a series of killings. In the Killings, Dubus used foreshadowing throughout the story to show the anger and the grief the family endured after Frank s murder. Dubus decided to begin the story with Frank s funeral and the family s emotions and thoughts about Frank s murderer, Richard Stout. Dubus showed the intensity of the family s hatred by adding quotes from the family, such as; I should kill him. (1175). • 17. Impact Of The Internet On Public Sphere Essay Despite its critics and some shortcomings early highlighted (Benson, 2009), the Habermas idea (and an ideal, too) of a public sphere in which all individuals and opinions should have the opportunity to democratically be engaged in community is an oft cited framework in order to better understand media, democracy, and pluralism (Antony Thomas, 2010; García Canclini, 1992; Jurgen Habermas, 1964; Stein, 2006). In Habermas words, a well functioning public sphere implies an open communication structures that permit and promote discussions oriented to self understanding (Jürgen Habermas, 1994: 128). Press and newspapers were the traditional landscape in which to deploy deliberation in the so called public sphere. Indeed, in traditional printed media, readers comments have a delimited space and length through the editorial pages that used to explicitly contain the community discussion, which had been also discussed in both Latin American and Chilean contexts (Santa Cruz, 2011). However, regarding the new technologies, the impact of the Internet in news production, and the shift in the role of audiences and content producers, audiences are no longer restricted by largely elitist and inaccessible media systems (Antony Thomas, 2010: 1283). In fact, technological developments such as the so called Web 2.0 challenge and complicate the vertical and one way flow of information that characterizes traditional mediums, such printed newspapers and broadcasting. Its history starts when the Lenni Lenape Indians first settled there, however, the time period of when the Lenape Indians first came is unknown. In the 1650s, General Peter Stuyvesant had everyone under his rule. Two years later, Stuyvesant engineered the purchase of most of present day Hudson County from the Indians in return for some materials. On November 1660, the Dutch moved in and claimed Bergen Square (now known as Journal Square) to be their place of settlement. • 22. Media And Mass Media Deviance Media is the most effective method of mass communication. There are many different sources of mass media; broadcast, advertising, digital, hypermedia, interactive, multimedia, new media, news media, print media, published media, recorded media and social media(Dictionary.com 2017). Considering all the different forms media can take, it isn t all too shocking that media has had an influence on deviant behaviors. The media s influence though, is attributed to promoting deviance rather than reducing it. When individuals contemplate the term deviance, they often think of it as behavior that is inherently bad. Contrary to that belief, deviance is described as a behavior that departs from the social constructs of a society(Thio 2010). Deviance, criminal or not, is commonly used amongst mass media to entertain their viewers. The media relies on their audience s inherent social constructs to make a profit. Without the meanings attached to these deviant behaviors, there wouldn t be any motive behind showing them. All things considered, what the media covers and how much they chose to cover has significantly changed over the years, the most apparent in crime coverage. This consistent coverage of crime gives the audience an opportunity to interact with the media. They can feel a part of the intensity of an investigation, cheer on the enforcers, become immersed in their stereotypes. On the other hand, they can appreciate deviance for its resilience to overcome and resist ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As regards forgiveness the message of Jonah 4 is often echoed in the preaching and parables of Jesus when he reminds his audience that God has forgiven them and therefore they should forgive others. If the message of Jonah 4 peaks at vv. 6 7 then part of this message of grace must be the sovereignty of God. It is easier for it to lose electrons than it is for Br, this is because Br has the same atomic radius (115 pm) as does Se, but Br more protons to hold its electrons from being taken, itso has a stronger pull for its own electrons and greater than that of tellurium. This would mean that RTs along with 18 other programs would not have to hold a state license to practice their craft (Sunset 52). Deregulation may sound like a good idea on paper, however in practice, it is anything but. The potential negative outcomes in the form of patient harm and possible death would far outweigh any benefit. Deregulation of respiratory therapists in Texas began in the government as a proposal, was fought against by those who say the potential danger in the idea, then ended back in the government with a compromise that was written into law. Corporate Strategy and Culture An organization s culture creates an important link between the organization s strategy, human resource management and the human resource. According to Chew Sharma, 2006, organization culture refers to how things in an organization are undertaken in the normal course work. It is therefore; correct to say that an organization s culture refers to that aspect about an organization that makes it uniquely different from other organizations. Given that organization culture is linked to its strategy, it is clear to say that corporate strategy formulation will influence working style in the organization(Becker Gehart, 2000). Nestle a Corporation recently targets to sell it products on an international scope even to the third world countries. It is working towards changing the mindset of the employees to incorporate an international outlook. In their marketing strategy, the corporation emphasizes Good and Healthy Foods where, specific attributes of others countries are considered. • 39. The Role Of Performance Enhancing Drugs In Professional... If you are an avid sports fan and there is a chance to make superstar athletes whom you admire much faster, stronger and better, would you be in favor of that opportunity? Performance enhancing drugs have been a very controversial topic ever since American professional athletes introduced them into the sports world during the 1990 s. Many athletes have experimented with these drugs over their careers and have been tested, and ultimately caught, but does this really put the MLB in the direction they and the fans want? Although some researchers and critics may consider performance enhancing drugs a method of cheating, PEDs actually benefit professional leagues by increasing fan interest, revenue, and levels of play. If performance enhancing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some athletes are hard workers, and others use PEDs, but players will do anything possible to gain an advantage over their opponents. Because of this known fact, Higher level athletes are always going to do everything they can to get an edge, to beat the competition, and extend their shorts careers (Kolosky). Players careers are relatively short due to injury or fatigue. If players were to use steroids, their bodies can recover from injury at a faster rate and build up more strength to avoid fatigue. Fans may complain about how player statistics from different eras are now not comparable, but it s important to note that historical statistics are already antiquated. Baseball has changed over time, so records set by Babe Ruth or Roger Maris are obsolete. Rule changes radically modified baseball at the end of the deadball era, ... Simply put, professional sports have evolved so much over the years that it s mostly nonsense to directly compare statistics across eras, regardless of steroid use (Smith). This implies that because of the more frequent use of steroids among players, it is now not possible to correctly compare players from decades ago to the modern day stars, but with of all the rule changes and defensive schemes used, it would not be possible to compare players anyways; even without PEDs. Finally, many critics believe that an unfair level of play is created because of the handful of innocent players but if we really want to level the playing field, it may be time to head in the other direction, legalize performance enhancers... Not only would the playing field suddenly be even for all players, it would be at a higher level (Smith). A proposed solution underscores the fact that if all players used PEDs, a fair level of play would be created and it would be at a much higher level than ever ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My first statement is how many deaths there was and still are from drugs. My second point of view is how it can affect you and teammates. This is why we should have drug testing when it comes to athletes. According to rasmussen.edu there are roughly 3.2 percent of high school Athletes that have been using steroids or taken shots with out doctors permission. There was a story in the New York times article Differing Views on Value of High School Tests that had triggered people s attention. Taylor Hooton a 17 year old lived in Plano, Tex., Had committed suicide in 2003. This was a very shocking moment Taylor was a baseball player, and was very athletic. It was said that his father was the one who started the the testing drugs in high school. Nothing was said about his mother as far as I know from my knowledge is that she was very shocked. Fox 13 salt lake city reporter Caroline Collonny, had a story on a hockey team that held silence for a teammate that had past away a year ago by the use of drugs with three friends on a Friday. Anterior Cruciate Ligar Research Paper Mrs. Bacon English 1301 29 October 2015 Anterior Cruciate Ligament Tears Injuries occur everyday is the sport s world; they range anywhere from a sprained ankle to paralysis. In many sports, such as volleyball or basketball, the injuries that occur usually happen to the lower half of the body. Over the years, certain injuries have become more common, such as ACL injuries. A torn ACL is not only one of the most common seen injuries in the sports world, but it is also very easy to diagnose; however, it is a long road back to recovery. Out of the many ligaments, muscles, and tendons in the knee, the ACL is the most common to injure. The next step, if one chooses, is surgery and recovery. To repair the ligament, most surgeons will take part of another tendon, which has similar tissue to a ligament, in the leg and pull it through a tunnel that is drilled through the tibia into the femur ( ACL Tears and Reconstruction ). After surgery, a patient usually begins physical therapy three to four days after the procedure. Physical therapy helps strengthen the muscles, tendons, and ligaments in the knee that were affected by the accident. In order to get back to normal as soon as possible, a patient needs to attend physical therapy two or three times a week for about ten weeks. After that time is up, depending on the progress of the patient, the therapist will reduce the appointments to once a week. As the patient continues to strengthen and progress, he or she will be allowed to start performing more advanced things. For example, most patients will have to start doing ten minute jogs to gradually get the knee used to impact again. A full recovery usually takes about six or seven months, for athletes coming back to sports. This process of time may be lengthened depending on the patient. Athletes who try to return early are at an extremely high risk of tearing the ACL again. Full recovery for an athlete can include, being able to play with contact or jump and dive. Although a patient is released to play his or her sport again, that does not mean the patients knee is completely back to normal again. For instance, the athlete will need to a wear a knee brace for any type of physical activity for at least a year after returning back to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Ecology Of Commerce By Environmentalist Paul Hawken Part I: Introduction The Ecology of Commerce, written by Environmentalist Paul Hawken, is an insightful, although daunting, look into economic and corporate sustainability. The first rule of sustainability is to align with natural forces, or at least not try to defy them . This quote, spoken by Paul Hawken himself, is a perfect demonstration of the major theme he carefully analyzes within the book. Economics and the environment are two words that you often don t see in the same sentence, despite the fact that the influence economics has contributes to the deterioration of our environment gravely. Part II: Background and Thesis Paul Hawken studies the many faults of the economic practices we adhere to globally. Whether or not we agree with his beliefs is a decision we as readers need to make. While an understanding of the environmental impacts is evident, as well as the biological changes it has put forth on humans, I question if individual change really makes a difference to the environment and the overall way the economy works. Hawken demonstrates a clear explanation to back up his statement of absolute resource destruction, but I believe he underestimates the change that may need to be done. I strongly believe we have reached a point in time where individual change is inadmissible, and in order to save our planet, large corporations and their accountability should be questioned. A world without sustainability, or more importantly a world without economic integrity, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The Constitutional And Statutory History Of The Right To understand the present scope of the right to a trial by jury in civil actions, it is necessary to examine the constitutional and statutory history of the right. The United States Constitution has preserved the right to a jury trial in [s]uits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars. The New York Constitution provides for trial by jury in civil actions in all cases in which it has heretofore been guaranteed. In addition to the constitutional right, this right has been further codified in CPLR Section 4101. The cases in which jury trials are required are generally those actions that evolved through the common law courts versus those developed in the equity courts, which are tried by the court alone. Courts of equity were the Chancery courts and existed historically as an entirely separate department from the Supreme Court, imitating the historical arrangement in place in England. A primary reason for the development of the Chancery courts was to provide a means of redress where the common law provided an inadequate remedy or no remedy at all. In equity, generally the court s power is to direct someone to act or to forbear from acting, which circumstances clearly cannot be redressed by the award of money damages. In New York, with the passage of the 1846 Constitution, law and equity were merged so that jurisdiction could be had by the same tribunal regardless of the nature of the suit. On August 10th, Martha Griffiths (D Michigan) succeeded in getting the House of Representatives to pass the ERA on a bipartisan vote of 350 15. The bill would not pass both chambers during the 91st Congress and had to be reintroduced the next year during the 92nd Congress. The vote in the House in March, 1971 was 354 23 in favor of passage. On March 22, 1972 the Senate voted 84 8 in favor of the ERA, finally passing the ERA and sending it to the States for ratification. • 49. The Threat Of The Atomic Bomb Very few events in human history will be remembered forever. Everyday things such as driving to work or spending time with a loved one, will all soon be part of the past. Even seemingly horrifying events that in the present seem to cause chaos, such as a wildfire that destroys thousands of homes, or a plane crash that tears apart many families will be forgotten by humanity in a comparably short amount of time. The atomic bomb is one of the few events that will forever be remembered by people all over the world for the remainder of human history. Robert Oppenheimer, the main scientist in building the bomb, will be remembered as the person who created the most devastating weapon ever used in combat. The destruction that was caused by the bomb was mainly felt in the country of Japan, but its impact spread throughout the world. Ending World War II was made possible by the U.S. government, and their crucial decision to drop Oppenheimer s atomic device onto the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Soon after, the once destructive device was forbidden to be used for any reason and nuclear power plants were developed to make use of the unique power. The dropping of the atomic bomb had a much greater impact on the world than just its immediate destruction. Robert Oppenheimer, the man behind the atomic bomb, grew up in the early 1900s in New York City (Rummel 13). Oppenheimer s American journey started long before he was born.
