Universal Truths in Japanese Literature
Universal Truths in Japanese Literature
Arts, Culture and Literature
In The Crane Wife and Princess Hase, both short stories in the book Tales of Japan Illustrated Folk
Tales, Fairy Tales and Mythology by Birgit Amadoi there are examples of Universal truths. The
Universal Truths such as Good vs. Evil, Greed vs. Generosity, and Outer Strength vs. Inner Strength
affect the people of Japan, and reflects on how the live their life, and their outlook on the world.
The universal truth of Good vs. Evil reflects Japanese culture through, the history, the people, their
outlook on life, and their actions. Evil is usually perceived as the opposite of good. In history it is to
be known that Good always conquers evil. Every language has a ... Show more content on

This is an example of God being on the side of good. While giving birth to Hase he mother passed
away. The Father got remarried, and had another child. Hase now lives with her Stepmother, Father,
and brother. Her brother is the son of her step mother. The step mother became very jealous of Hase.
She was loved by everyone because of her poetry. Hase was a good person, so good karma came to
her. Hase s stepmother plans to kill her with poison. Her plan went wrong, and she killed her only son.
The stepmother blamed Hase for her loss. This is the second example of karma. Hase s stepmother
was jealous of her which is a sin, and bad karma came to her. She tried to kill Hase and bad came back
to her. This is an example of Good vs. evil when good, defeats evil.
In both of these short stories it explains for Good vs. Evil is connected to karma. When you do good
things good karma will come back to you. When you do bad, horrible things will happen to you in
return. The example of Yuhei not obeying his wife s orders is an example of Evil, which resulted in
him having a horrible life. When he let the crane free and him being bless with a wife was an example
of good karma. This shows that one person can make good and bad actions. In the second story Hase s
stepmother trying to killer her, resulting in her only sons death is an example of bad Karma. She took
the evil path and bad things happened to her. This

Acute Urbanization And The City Of Mumbai
The year 2010 is estimated to mark the transition of a majority (50.6%) of the world‟s population
from rural to urban. UNPD. (2007) The most alarming implications of rapid urbanization include
irrevocable alteration of local and global environments, unsustainable exploitation of natural resources
and widening social equity gaps within urban areas. With the migration of masses from rural to urban
ares cities are overcrowded and vulnerability and exposure aspects accruing it are in the state of
change. Against this background it is imperative to examine the responses from these urban masses to
the various disasters in the urban areas. One particularly problematic aspect of this challenge is the
selection of appropriate adjustments and adaptations to natural hazards that are exacerbated by
urbanization. The present dissertation seeks to examine the existing approaches to flood hazard risk
reduction in the city of Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.Floods are considered the most common and
highly damaging of all hazards, and it has been predicted that they are likely to become more frequent,
more prevalent and more serious in the years to come (Muchtar Bahar 2010) especially in fast
growing cities of the world which are witnessing rapid urbanisation. Compared to other types of
natural disasters, they account for approximately 20 40% of the events which are reported (Sene
2008). Their nature is governed by various factors, which include the properties of the drainage,

Research Paper On Writer s Cramp
Writer s cramp
What is Writer s cramp?
Writer s cramp is a condition that involves chronic sustained pain or sudden painful contraction of
some muscles of the hand or fingers.
The patient experiences this disease generally feels uncontrolled, irritating or tedious muscular
contraction that leads to changed movements and abnormal position or attitudes of hands and fingers.
Writer s cramp mostly affects one body part and people between the ages of 30 to 50 years generally
get affected with this disease. However, it can affect any age group; both genders equally.
What causes Writer s cramp?
Though the exact reason behind Writer s cramp is not clear yet but it is normally believed to due to
excessive muscular or motor activity, might ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The exact treatment strategy for writer s cramp vary from case to case as there no single treatment
strategy is appropriate for every case. The most effective method is adapting tasks to avoid triggering
the dystonic movements. This might include occupational therapy or using assistive/adapted devices.
There is large number of oral drugs that have been considered helpful for people with writer s cramp,
but none of them seems to be equally effective. Around 5% of people s symptoms improved with the
help of anticholinergic drugs, such as Cogentin (benztropine) and Artane (trihexyphenidyl).
Botulinum neurotoxin injections can also prove helpful, particularly in treating those writer s cramp
cases, where there is a major deviation of the finger joints or wrist. Though this treatment is not quite
effective for all people, but considerable improvement in writing and reduction of pain has been
observed in majority of people treated this way.
Homeopathic treatment for writer s cramp
Homeopathic treatment is proven quite effective for Writer s cramp especially if this condition is
treated in its early stages; as the chances of complications become

Analysis Of The Second Sex
I n today s society, the human body is placed on a pedestal for the world to critique. Both women and
men are seen as individuals that are supposed to act, dress, and look a certain way. If they falter, they
are seen as strange and sometimes called names; this is especially true for women. According to
society, man is woman s better half, and many philosophers have shown interest in this correlation.
Beauvoir, in her book The Second Sex, she talks about how women are the other and are seen as being
less than men are. Also, Young explains in her paper, Throwing Like a Girl, how men and women
approach certain obstacles differently. Along with Young s, paper a company called Always made a
promo #LikeAGirl and put into practice what Young states in her paper. Though these philosophers
and company have tried to push for woman equality, other companies, such as Hardies, have stopped
their efforts. So why do we see women as the lesser half? It is because, how we see the human body,
particularly women, is in direct correlation to where and how we are raised. Before you can describe
what the difference between men and women is, you must first understand what it means to be a
woman. As Beauvoir explains in her book The Second Sex,
Everyone agrees there are females in the human species; today, as in the past, they make up about half
of humanity; and yet we are told that femininity is in jeopardy ; we are urged, be woman, stay woman,
become woman. So not every female human being

Thermal Energy Conversion Essay
The demand for an efficient renewable energy source is a driving force in ongoing research. Thermal
energy conversion is one such potential source that is under constant investigation and has endless
avenues of possibility. The two requirements of energy production are efficiency and renewability.
Many possibilities exist for energy production including: Fossil Fuels (natural gas, oil, coal, oilshale),
nuclear, solar, wind, geothermal, biomass and wastes, hydroelectric. Efficiency of the use of these
resource are directly related to the location and the demand in that location. For example Hawaii is a
prime candidate for the use of the oceans mechanical wave action, the thermal gradient of the ocean,
wind, and biomass from the high ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are three types of energy converters producing electricity: closed cycle, open cycle, and a
hybrid system combining the previous two systems. Closed cycle OTEC systems use the warm surface
water to boil a fluid that has a low boiling point (e.g. ammonia). The pressure caused by the expanding
vapor is then used to turn a turbine. The turbine then turns a generator to produce electricity. Cold
water is then used to recycle the vapor back to a condensed state and the cycle is repeated. An open
cycle system directly boils the warm surface water. Operating at low pressure, the steam that is created
is channeled in turn to a turbine engine. The water vapor is condensed again by cold water. If the
condensed water is kept seperate from the cold seawater it can be used for consumption or agriculture.
Other by products produced by the open cycle OTEC are a variety of minerals. Both cycles produce
electricity through the use of solar warmed water.
Steam Powered Turbine Engine
Capturing the power of steam is not a new idea but one that has been used for hundreds of years. A jet
of steam can readily do work on an object by the jet propolsion effect of steam escaping through a
small guided hole or by a stream colliding with a system of paddle wheels. Most early steam powered
machines used the principles of the latter. The system of paddles, or turbine, was used to drive a shaft
which in turn could drive any number of gear or belt driven mechanisms. The

The Problem Of Crisis Communication Management
Crisis Communication Management
The communication given when there is a crisis can make or break an organization and there
spokesperson career, and result in a loss of trust for the organization.
I think that information that any type of information that pertains to allocation of blame; speculation
as to the cause of the incident; anything off the record; money estimates of damage; and insurance
coverage ( Crisis Communication Management , n.d.), should always be controlled, because until they

The media is always the one who will ask whom, when, where, and why questions. And the crisis
team will be the ones that will answer those questions. They will be prepared for the crisis before the
crisis happens so that during a crisis/emergency they can swiftly go into action, and will always be
able to access the highest levels of the administration.
How control over crisis information gives power to a person
We all know that when a crisis happens that an organization reputation is always online, so
maintaining control over information as much as possible until it can be verified is very important.
Thereby, internal communication is very critical to maintain and establish trust and it especially
important in emergencies/crisis where the stakeholders might be vulnerable to reputation fallout.
Because when they lack Intel or just do not understanding what the nature or the extent of the crisis it
can create intense fear or illogical behavior towards the organization.
Therefore, taking strong communication measures to strengthen the stakeholders, worker, or public
morale (Chong, 2006), by using the Situational Crisis Communication Theory (SCCT). Why? Because
it will allow us to assess the crisis situation so that we can instructs them what they should do to

Introduction
Experts believe that terrorist use of chemical agents is an event with low probability, but potentially
high consequences. While terrorist groups may or may not have an increased interest in chemical
agent acquisition and use, the domestic vulnerability of the United States to chemical attack remains
an issue. Both the United States and Russia have signed and ratified the Chemical Weapons
Convention (CWC), and are reducing, and eventually eliminating, their chemical weapon stockpiles.1
The possibility that terrorist groups might obtain insecure chemical weapons led to increased scrutiny
of declared Libyan chemical weapon stockpiles following the fall of the Qadhafi regime. Experts have

Some agents can penetrate through normal clothing material, causing burns even in cloth covered
areas. While blister agents react quickly upon skin contact, their symptoms may be delayed. In the
case of mustard agent, damage occurs within one to two minutes of exposure, but symptoms do not
manifest for several hours.18 As even low concentrations of vaporized blister agents quickly cause
damage, it is unlikely that exposed individuals can remove these agents from the skin prior to injury.
The initial symptoms of blister agent exposure are a reddening of the skin, resembling sunburn,
combined with pain in the affected area. Swollen skin, blisters, and lesions may then develop,
depending on the degree of exposure. Systemic symptoms, such as malaise, vomiting, and fever, may
also develop in extreme cases. Exposure to large amounts of liquid mustard agent may prove fatal.19
The eyes are also very sensitive to blister agents. Following exposure to high concentration vapor,
great pain, corneal damage, and scarring may occur. Liquid agent often causes the most severe eye
damage. This may come from contact with airborne droplets or by self contamination of the eyes from
contaminated clothing or body

Holistic Healthcare
Holistic Healthcare How Should Nursing Support Patients Rights?
Healthcare treatments are no longer being determined by set protocols for a particular diagnosis or
disease process. Increasingly more common, individualized, patient driven adaptations are being
implemented to improve adherence and compliance with treatment. Society as a whole is changing.
The influx of immigrants, cultural variations, and increased interest in natural healing therapies within
the U.S., has fueled a growth in the use of natural and alternative medicine practices. Holistic
healthcare lends a unique facet in making these adaptations to medical care conceivable. Through
employing the unique relationship formed between nurses and patients collaboration in care, including
the use of complementary and alternative medicine practices (CAM), can be easily managed (Barnes,
Bloom, Nahin, 2008). This alliance among nurses and patients in appraising all options, including
CAM practices when appropriate, supports the patient s right to be informed in regards to their care

Hmo Influence On Health Care
Running head: INFLUENCE OF HMO S
HMO s
University of Phoenix
Abstract
The term Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) was developed in 1970 as part of the Nixon
Administration to promote the growth of prepaid plans as a way to improve the nation s health system.
The Health Maintenance Organization has an appearance on the outside of being very appealing to
those with little money to spend on insurance because it has a very low premium cost, but the truth be
known that sometimes cheaper is not always better. In this paper I will discuss how HMO s have
influenced current healthcare systems.

This was a great thing and to be honest the fees were only 25 more dollars than what I am paying for a
HMO now. I became ill and was rushed to one of the best hospitals in the U.S. Tests were run and
because I had a PPO there were no questions as to who my primary care doctor was. There were no
questions as to what my insurance would pay for on the expensive tests. Now back home in the North
I currently have an HMO which as I stated is only a few dollars cheaper than my PPO. I recently
broke my back and was rushed to the local hospital because of the emergency situation. While in the
E.R. the doctors had to notify my primary doctor and get permission from the insurance company to
run tests and for me to even be allowed to stay in that hospitals E.R. My primary care doctor was over
an hour away in another state. I was cleared to go to another bigger hospital for emergency surgery but
it took a lot of time to get the clearance. I currently am suffering through bills because through an
HMO it is a courtesy for any hospital to call any insurance. If I still had PPO I would not have been
questioned as to cost and the hospital would have been paid because I could through a PPO go to any
hospital without permission. In summary, the time has come for Congress to make decisions regarding
appropriate health care and to understand that at times cheaper is not always better.

Pica Disorder: Eating disorders are a serious mental illness, not a lifestyle choice. Millions of people
have to deal with inner demons on a daily basis, some more serious than others but one that is severe,
is Pica disorder. Pica disorder is an eating disorder where people have an appetite for non nutritive,
inedible materials and become addicted to eating items such as clay, nail polish, drywall, light bulbs
and much more. This disorder causes victims to eat unimaginable things and causes many medical

because of malnutrition many people are desperate for food and will turn to inedible sources such as

The Importance Of The Film Jaws
The film Jaws is deemed as one of the greatest movies of all time, it is not only a movie, but it
changed the movie industry due to its success. The success of Jaws is a result of the mass of
advertising the producers did. Jaws was the first film to have a wide release , opening at the same time
across the country and making it the highest grossing film at the time. The vast amount of detail the
producers went into advertising can be seen in the Jaws movie poster. Through the vivid red title, the
unseen shark in the ocean s depth, the unwitting and vulnerable woman, the use of prominent actor s
names, and the magnitude of the shark, the author uses a myriad of textual and non textual techniques
that create both suspense and excitement for the film.
First, the author places the title Jaws in the center of the page in bright red letters, which causes the
title to stand to the viewer because the red lettering is an enormous contrast to the primarily blue and
white image. The author uses the placement and color of the title catch the eyes of the viewer. For
example, when looking at the image the viewer will notice the massive shark because of its size, but
the shark s color is similar to the color of the water, however, the red is a direct contrast to the blue in
the image making it stand out more than any other part of the image. The author chooses red for the
title not only to make it stand out but also to imply the goriness of the film. Red is the color of blood

In chronic inflammatory and granulomatous conditions, macrophage dysfunction plays a central role
in progression and maintenance of disease like in case of rheumatoid arthritis where persistent antigen
stimulation leads to accumulation of macrophages in the inflamed synovial membrane and at the
cartilage pannus junction [2]. This is evident by elevated levels of macrophage derived pro
inflammatory cytokines such as TNF α, IL 1β, IL 6 and inflammatory mediators such as COX 2 which
has a key role in the maintenance of inflammation by regulating the levels of prostaglandins [3, 4].
Non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and glucocorticoids supplemented with biologics are
the conventional drug options for the treatment of chronic inflammation [5]. In contrast to their
efficiency in improving disease conditions, chronic and long term use of these drugs may lead to
serious adverse effects such as gastric ulceration, bleeding and emergence of opportunistic infection
due to immunosupression. In US, more than 16,000 deaths per year have been reported due to gastric
ulcers and gastrointestinal bleeding associated with prolonged use of NSAIDs in arthritic patients [6].
Due to high cost and adverse events associated with conventional treatment, more than 70% of
patients with rheumatoid arthritis rely on complementary and alternative medicine with or without
conventional medicine [7].

How Did Alcatraz Escape
Alcatraz
On June 11, 1962, Frank Morris and the two brothers, Clarence and John Anglin, escaped from the
prison Alcatraz in the middle of the San Francisco Bay. According to the ¨Investigation¨ article, the
FBI closed the case in the year 1979 and the case was on going for 17 years. They had pronounced in
this article that they think that the three escapees had died but, I think otherwise. There is a lot of
evidence proving that these escapees are not dead. According to the video, Did Frank Morris survive?¨
The day after the escape there was a raft found on angel island and footprints heading away from the
raft. This is a big clue because from interviewing West he said there plan was to use the raft to make

time the escapees escaped and the exact same tides that they were the night of and when it hit that
time they all started from the prison rooms that frank and the two brothers had escaped from and took
the way that they did until they hit the bay and noticed that they will not be able to go to angel islands

freedom. And so if he was this smart he could ve gotten into the water and noticed that the currents
were not going to take them to angel island and figured out another way. He could have taken another
way that was possible and that was to go the Marin Headlands which the mythbusters also put to the

Net Income Of Both Exxon And Chevron
1. Compare and contrast the limitations and usefulness of the single step income statement and the
multi step income statement.
A single step income statement lists all expenses and cos of goods sold in one column; it does not
break expenses down into categories. They are all totaled and listed together. Even though the single
step income statement lacks in detail, many companies still like to use it because it is easy to prepare
and read. To expand, the single step income statement is short and to the point and is a great tool to
use for persons who want or only need to see the bottom result. A multi step income statement lists
income and expenses into three main categories with subtotals to give a much better breakdown to the
financial reader. The multi step income statement shows the different sources of income and expenses
making it much for detailed for the financial reader. Although the multi step income statement is more
time consuming to prepare it provides a more in depth financial picture of the company to the
creditors and lenders.

Nintendo s Disruptive Strategy
Nintendo Disruptive Strategy Video game industry is synonymous with names like Sony, Microsoft,
and Nintendo. A number of changes have been witnessed in the video game industry with respect to
competition and technology. Atari, a U.S. based company, and Namco from Japan are some of the
undisputed initial players in the video game industry. They literally brought the video games to
teenagers who accessed them in the shopping malls and video games arcades. Home consoles however
made it possible for video game lovers to play video games within the confines of their homes. The
introduction of personal computers in the 80s nearly revolutionized the video game industry. However,
the introduction of personal computers had no significant impact on the video game industry as the
proprietors still achieved steady growth. Video game consoles client base was kind of confined to
teenagers. Sony managed to penetrate the video gaming market save for their insightful targeting and
positioning, image conscious branding, and super graphic technologies. These made PS very popular
in the mid 90s. In fact, the entry of Sony into the video gaming market spelt some doom to video
game consoles because they captured new players. The industry subsequently grew substantially.
Video gaming became the ultimate entertainment especially among the young adults who had
disposable incomes (Farhoomand, 2009). When SONY launched PS2 in 2000, Microsoft felt that it

The Ethics Of A Savior Sibling Essay
Kant claims that the human should act in such a way that you treat humanity, whether in your own
person or in the person of another, always at the same time as an end and never simply as a means .
Critics of savior sibling have argued that the procedure violates this concept. They argue that there is
something fundamentally wrong with parents having children for the wrong reasons. In the case of a
savior sibling, the parents are acting unethically by having a child for the purpose of saving the life of
a second child and not for the sake of the child being born. This raises concern for the welfare of the
child being created. One must agree that conceiving a child can be wrong or done for the wrong
reasons. Thus, first, it must be firmly established that the creation of a savior sibling would be a wrong
reason because the child will solely be treated as a means. This argument against savior sibling is
misleading as the child is not treated solely as a means. And the Kantian concept does not prevent
treating people as a means some time. In fact, people are treated as means all the time, one example is
used by Christine Overall, a critic of savior sibling, arguing that her students use her as a mean
semester after semester, simple to acquire an education (86). John Harris argues that we all treat
people as means perfectly innocuously much of the time. In medical context, anyone who receives a
blood transfusion has used the blood donor as a means to their own end (Harris

The Central Banks Of The World
The Central Banks of the world have a role in today s society to provide stability to the economy.
Through monetary policy, the Central Banks must utilize the daily economic data in order to make
policy decisions that attempt to ensure continuous growth and prosperity. The Central Banks do this
through regulating inflation as well as implementing specific goals such as currency stability, low
inflation and full employment (Heakal). In 2008 the global financial crisis hit numerous nations
around the world and each Central Bank saw their economies crash, consumers lose market
confidence, investors stop investing, and banks stop lending. If the money stops circulating in the
economy banks [can t] provide customers with a variety of basic financial services; [such as] an on
demand source of bank notes; deposits and savings accounts; payment services; and ... credit, to both
business and households (Fisher 2). The credit crunch was experienced throughout the world and each
Central Bank laid out their plans in order to halt and begin recovering from the crisis and set the
economy back to a stable 2% inflation. Along with The Federal Reserve, the Bank of England s
conventional attempts at restoring the economy never had enough of an impact to jump start the
economy. An unconventional crisis called for unconventional resolutions. The Bank of England turned
to unconventional monetary policies when all else failed. The utilization of the practice of quantitative

endowed with a training system, which employees can access, where face to face instruction is not
possible because the very nature is that it is borderless and potentially global in scope. With e learning
methods, training can take place on demand, and trainees can be given greater control over their

training effectiveness. E learning courses add value to traditional learning modes by offering self

convenience of the busy workers as well as for globally dispersed employees. Hence workplace
training needs to be broadened and customized (Marc J. Rosenberg Steven Foreman 2010). Live e

How Does Holden Caulfield Existentialism
Existentialism In The Catcher In THe Rye, JD Salinger shows Existentialist views through the main

Holden chooses existentialist views when he does anything, and he s a very weird guy, that is slightly
awkward. Holden s thoughts on the world around him change throughout the book like how he sees

Factors Influencing Nursing Among Nurses
Title: Factors influencing professionalism in nursing among nurses in a hospital in Riyadh, Saudi
Arabia.
INTRODUCTION
Statement of the problem
Healthcare organizations in Saudi Arabia are very dependent on expatriate nurses to meet the demands
of health staffing, a situation exacerbated by the current global nursing shortages and retention issues
(Almalki, Fitzgerald, Clark, 2011). I propose to study the factors that influence the professionalism in
nursing amongst nurses from different countries in a hospital in Saudi Arabia. I am particularly
interested in this field as I have encountered nurses behaving unprofessionally in a hospital setting.
According to Miller, Adams and Beck (1993), formal education in a university setting and education
with a scientific background are critical for professionalism in nursing. A study done by Rees,
Monrouxe, and McDonald (2015), expressed that while nursing students are shown professionalism
through formal educational module, they ordinarily encounter workplace based professionalism
dilemmas that are frequently created by registered nurses. Peer relationships in nursing is also
important in maintaining the standards of professionalism (Padgett, 2013).
Purpose of the study
The purpose of the study is to determine the factors influencing professionalism in nursing among
nurses in a hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Theoretical framework
The theoretical framework that I would use in this research paper is the Hall s

Compare And Contrast Hardin And Ostrom
The Tragedy of the Commons by Garrett Hardin and A General Framework for Analyzing
Sustainability of Social Ecological Systems by Elinor Ostrom both offer perspectives on the way
humans interact with common pool resources, as well as the property regimes that govern them. A
Common Pool Resource (CPR) is defined by Dietz as a valued natural resource that is available to
more than one person and subject to degradation as a result of overuse. (Hagerman, 2014 a).
Hardin offers a perspective on CPRs through analogies to commons , areas of open access where there
is an absence of well defined property rights [and] access is unregulated and open to anyone.
(Hagerman, 2014a) He explains a scenario where multiple herders own cattle, which all graze on one
common plot of land. The herders weigh the benefits and costs of adding one more cow, and going
beyond the carrying capacity of the commons. If one herder adds a cow, the cost is subtracted evenly
from the well being of the all herders. The benefits, however, are realised uniquely by the herder who
added the cow. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Dietz et al., 2003; Monbiot, 1994; Ostrom, 2009) Ostrom s paper examines the diverse outcomes of
the commons, as supposed to Hardin s one size fits all . (Ostrom et al., 2009, p. 419) This way of
looking at the possible outcomes of CPRs differs from Hardin s in that it takes into account different
social and economic variables, whereas Hardin bases his perspective uniquely off of real life
examples, such as that of the high seas. She introduces the Social Ecological System (SES), which is a
framework for examining the different roles, variables, and context that all play into the maintenance
or collapse of an ecosystem. (Ostrom, 2009) SESs are made up of (i) resource units...(ii) resource
systems... (iii) governance systems... and (iv) users (Ostrom, 2009, p.420) who all interact, and play
certain roles in the outcome of an ecosystem. (Ostrom,

In The Bedroom Analysis
The short story Killings is written by Andre Dubs which later recreated into a motion picture film
called In the Bedroom by director Todd Field in 2001. Both the short story Killings and the film In the
Bedroom highlights the themes of love and revenge. It shows how far a person would go for the
people they love. The short story was named Killings because it not only focuses on two deaths but
the multiple types of death and different aspects of it. Reading the short story Killings and watching
the film In the Bedroom I noticed many differences between the two. For example in the short story
Killings Matt and Ruth had 3 kids and some grandchildren. In the film In the Bedroom Frank was the
only child. I believe the direction Todd Field made this change because he wanted us to focus on the
idea of how painful it to lose a child, and how it can affect the relationship between the parents. I
honestly thought that was really smart of the director to do since it made us feel how hard it most of
been for Matt and Ruth to lose their only child. And how losing Frank made their love for each other
kind of disappear. Another differences between the short story and the film was that in Killings the
story started off at Frank funeral and later flashback of what had occurred. In the film In the Bedroom
the story started from the beginning with Frank and his lover Natalie running in a field, which kind of
made the story plot go in chronological order.

What Makes My Hero a Hero
The word hero is a small word with a big meaning. A hero is someone who is admired or idealized for
courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Depending on who your hero is, and what they
do, show different characteristics. In numerous ways, my Uncle Clint is my personal hero. In my eyes,
his characteristics are: courage, bravery, and selflessness. He is brave because he sacrificed his life to
fight for our country. He rejoined the military when he did not have to, just to be able to serve his
country, knowing he would be deployed. Most people would not want to risk their life, but my Uncle

My Uncle Clint has always been someone that has been there for me and loved me. In my eyes he
would be a hero to me even if he did not go into the military. Him joining in the military, and rejoining
a second time showed that he did not give up. It showed that, that is something he put his mind to and
was not going to stop until he finished. My Uncle Clint is a strong man who is teaching everyone
around him from right and wrong. He wants the best for everyone he meets. He is not one that will let
his family go without. He makes sure to put everyone else above him. My Uncle Clint will always be

What surprises me is how many people look up to him, for example, his son. Wesley wants to join and
serve his country just like his dad. When I see someone who knows my Uncle Clint, they tell me just
how blessed I am for him to be my uncle. It is crazy how he could impact as many lives as he has. He
would lay down his life for anyone. That shows not only me, but everyone who knows him that he
would do anything for anyone. I do not know what still goes through his mind, but he still chooses to
be strong. I learned from the interview that he is strong and will fight for what he believes

Democracy Is A Key Component Of Today s Society
The government is a crucial component of today s society. Its existence is important for a civilized
community. Its definition includes the exertion of authority, administration of public policies, and the
direction of its members or subjects. Along with the creation of laws, a government provides the
country with infrastructure and services, and maintains a military and police force amongst other
forces on behalf of the citizens of the country. A government works fairly and with justice when there
is rule by the people. Democracy is a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people
and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving
periodically held free elections (Webster Dictionary). The utmost powerful characteristic of
democracy is that people hold the ultimate power. Democracy is a government of the people, by the
people, for the people Abraham Lincoln. A democratic government allows its citizens to manage their
government through indirective or directive procedures. Such procedures include freedom of
expression, fair and competitive elections to determine the authority for political power, and certain
restrictions on the exertion of authority. Such democratic governments choose between a presidential
system, a parliamentary system, or a hybrid system (semi presidential). These systems differ based on
how their executive, legislative, and judicial branches are organized. Along with a great impact on

Deserts, rain forests, plains, and other areas including the most developed urban sites, all have distinct

The Project Elephant PE in short was launched in February 1992. It is a central sponsored scheme that
intended to provide all kinds of support to the elephant bearing states in India, be it financial or
technical for protection of elephants and their habitats. Elephants, the gentle giants of the forests are
much loved in India and this project was launched when their numbers started decreasing at an
alarming rate. The Project Elephant in India also aimed to decrease the human elephant battles and
help in the welfare of domesticated elephants in India. Though project elephant was launched with
much enthusiasm years ago, but it has still not led to as much increase in the number of elephants as it
was expected. Wildlife conservationists state that the progress has been real slow and people in charge
of the project are themselves not very clear of the causes of decline in the number of elephants. Project
Elephant tries to ensure a free movement for the elephants and thus conserve large areas for them that
are called elephant reserve range .

The step mother became very jealous of Hase. She was loved by everyone because of her poetry. Hase was a good person, so good karma came to her. Hase s stepmother plans to kill her with poison. Her plan went wrong, and she killed her only son. The stepmother blamed Hase for her loss. This is the second example of karma. Hase s stepmother was jealous of her which is a sin, and bad karma came to her. She tried to kill Hase and bad came back to her. This is an example of Good vs. evil when good, defeats evil. In both of these short stories it explains for Good vs. Evil is connected to karma. When you do good things good karma will come back to you. When you do bad, horrible things will happen to you in return. The example of Yuhei not obeying his wife s orders is an example of Evil, which resulted in him having a horrible life. When he let the crane free and him being bless with a wife was an example of good karma. This shows that one person can make good and bad actions. (2007) The most alarming implications of rapid urbanization include irrevocable alteration of local and global environments, unsustainable exploitation of natural resources and widening social equity gaps within urban areas. With the migration of masses from rural to urban ares cities are overcrowded and vulnerability and exposure aspects accruing it are in the state of change. Against this background it is imperative to examine the responses from these urban masses to the various disasters in the urban areas. One particularly problematic aspect of this challenge is the selection of appropriate adjustments and adaptations to natural hazards that are exacerbated by urbanization. The present dissertation seeks to examine the existing approaches to flood hazard risk reduction in the city of Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.Floods are considered the most common and highly damaging of all hazards, and it has been predicted that they are likely to become more frequent, more prevalent and more serious in the years to come (Muchtar Bahar 2010) especially in fast growing cities of the world which are witnessing rapid urbanisation. • 5. Analysis Of The Second Sex I n today s society, the human body is placed on a pedestal for the world to critique. Both women and men are seen as individuals that are supposed to act, dress, and look a certain way. If they falter, they are seen as strange and sometimes called names; this is especially true for women. According to society, man is woman s better half, and many philosophers have shown interest in this correlation. Beauvoir, in her book The Second Sex, she talks about how women are the other and are seen as being less than men are. Also, Young explains in her paper, Throwing Like a Girl, how men and women approach certain obstacles differently. Along with Young s, paper a company called Always made a promo #LikeAGirl and put into practice what Young states in her paper. Though these philosophers and company have tried to push for woman equality, other companies, such as Hardies, have stopped their efforts. So why do we see women as the lesser half? It is because, how we see the human body, particularly women, is in direct correlation to where and how we are raised. Before you can describe what the difference between men and women is, you must first understand what it means to be a woman. As Beauvoir explains in her book The Second Sex, Everyone agrees there are females in the human species; today, as in the past, they make up about half of humanity; and yet we are told that femininity is in jeopardy ; we are urged, be woman, stay woman, become woman. So not every female human being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are three types of energy converters producing electricity: closed cycle, open cycle, and a hybrid system combining the previous two systems. Closed cycle OTEC systems use the warm surface water to boil a fluid that has a low boiling point (e.g. ammonia). The pressure caused by the expanding vapor is then used to turn a turbine. The turbine then turns a generator to produce electricity. Cold water is then used to recycle the vapor back to a condensed state and the cycle is repeated. An open cycle system directly boils the warm surface water. Operating at low pressure, the steam that is created is channeled in turn to a turbine engine. The water vapor is condensed again by cold water. If the condensed water is kept seperate from the cold seawater it can be used for consumption or agriculture. Other by products produced by the open cycle OTEC are a variety of minerals. Both cycles produce electricity through the use of solar warmed water. Steam Powered Turbine Engine Capturing the power of steam is not a new idea but one that has been used for hundreds of years. A jet of steam can readily do work on an object by the jet propolsion effect of steam escaping through a small guided hole or by a stream colliding with a system of paddle wheels. Most early steam powered machines used the principles of the latter. The system of paddles, or turbine, was used to drive a shaft which in turn could drive any number of gear or belt driven mechanisms. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There were no questions as to what my insurance would pay for on the expensive tests. Now back home in the North I currently have an HMO which as I stated is only a few dollars cheaper than my PPO. I recently broke my back and was rushed to the local hospital because of the emergency situation. While in the E.R. the doctors had to notify my primary doctor and get permission from the insurance company to run tests and for me to even be allowed to stay in that hospitals E.R. My primary care doctor was over an hour away in another state. I was cleared to go to another bigger hospital for emergency surgery but it took a lot of time to get the clearance. I currently am suffering through bills because through an HMO it is a courtesy for any hospital to call any insurance. If I still had PPO I would not have been questioned as to cost and the hospital would have been paid because I could through a PPO go to any hospital without permission. The success of Jaws is a result of the mass of advertising the producers did. Jaws was the first film to have a wide release , opening at the same time across the country and making it the highest grossing film at the time. The vast amount of detail the producers went into advertising can be seen in the Jaws movie poster. Through the vivid red title, the unseen shark in the ocean s depth, the unwitting and vulnerable woman, the use of prominent actor s names, and the magnitude of the shark, the author uses a myriad of textual and non textual techniques that create both suspense and excitement for the film. First, the author places the title Jaws in the center of the page in bright red letters, which causes the title to stand to the viewer because the red lettering is an enormous contrast to the primarily blue and white image. The author uses the placement and color of the title catch the eyes of the viewer. For example, when looking at the image the viewer will notice the massive shark because of its size, but the shark s color is similar to the color of the water, however, the red is a direct contrast to the blue in the image making it stand out more than any other part of the image. In chronic inflammatory and granulomatous conditions, macrophage dysfunction plays a central role in progression and maintenance of disease like in case of rheumatoid arthritis where persistent antigen stimulation leads to accumulation of macrophages in the inflamed synovial membrane and at the cartilage pannus junction [2]. This is evident by elevated levels of macrophage derived pro inflammatory cytokines such as TNF α, IL 1β, IL 6 and inflammatory mediators such as COX 2 which has a key role in the maintenance of inflammation by regulating the levels of prostaglandins [3, 4]. Non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and glucocorticoids supplemented with biologics are the conventional drug options for the treatment of chronic inflammation [5]. In contrast to their efficiency in improving disease conditions, chronic and long term use of these drugs may lead to serious adverse effects such as gastric ulceration, bleeding and emergence of opportunistic infection due to immunosupression. In US, more than 16,000 deaths per year have been reported due to gastric ulcers and gastrointestinal bleeding associated with prolonged use of NSAIDs in arthritic patients [6]. A number of changes have been witnessed in the video game industry with respect to competition and technology. Atari, a U.S. based company, and Namco from Japan are some of the undisputed initial players in the video game industry. They literally brought the video games to teenagers who accessed them in the shopping malls and video games arcades. • 25. The Ethics Of A Savior Sibling Essay Kant claims that the human should act in such a way that you treat humanity, whether in your own person or in the person of another, always at the same time as an end and never simply as a means . Critics of savior sibling have argued that the procedure violates this concept. They argue that there is something fundamentally wrong with parents having children for the wrong reasons. In the case of a savior sibling, the parents are acting unethically by having a child for the purpose of saving the life of a second child and not for the sake of the child being born. This raises concern for the welfare of the child being created. One must agree that conceiving a child can be wrong or done for the wrong reasons. Thus, first, it must be firmly established that the creation of a savior sibling would be a wrong reason because the child will solely be treated as a means. This argument against savior sibling is misleading as the child is not treated solely as a means. And the Kantian concept does not prevent treating people as a means some time. In fact, people are treated as means all the time, one example is used by Christine Overall, a critic of savior sibling, arguing that her students use her as a mean semester after semester, simple to acquire an education (86). John Harris argues that we all treat people as means perfectly innocuously much of the time. INTRODUCTION Statement of the problem Healthcare organizations in Saudi Arabia are very dependent on expatriate nurses to meet the demands of health staffing, a situation exacerbated by the current global nursing shortages and retention issues (Almalki, Fitzgerald, Clark, 2011). I propose to study the factors that influence the professionalism in nursing amongst nurses from different countries in a hospital in Saudi Arabia. I am particularly interested in this field as I have encountered nurses behaving unprofessionally in a hospital setting. According to Miller, Adams and Beck (1993), formal education in a university setting and education with a scientific background are critical for professionalism in nursing. A study done by Rees, Monrouxe, and McDonald (2015), expressed that while nursing students are shown professionalism through formal educational module, they ordinarily encounter workplace based professionalism dilemmas that are frequently created by registered nurses. Peer relationships in nursing is also important in maintaining the standards of professionalism (Padgett, 2013). Purpose of the study The purpose of the study is to determine the factors influencing professionalism in nursing among nurses in a hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Compare And Contrast Hardin And Ostrom The Tragedy of the Commons by Garrett Hardin and A General Framework for Analyzing Sustainability of Social Ecological Systems by Elinor Ostrom both offer perspectives on the way humans interact with common pool resources, as well as the property regimes that govern them. A Common Pool Resource (CPR) is defined by Dietz as a valued natural resource that is available to more than one person and subject to degradation as a result of overuse. (Hagerman, 2014 a). Hardin offers a perspective on CPRs through analogies to commons , areas of open access where there is an absence of well defined property rights [and] access is unregulated and open to anyone. (Hagerman, 2014a) He explains a scenario where multiple herders own cattle, which all graze on one common plot of land. The herders weigh the benefits and costs of adding one more cow, and going beyond the carrying capacity of the commons. If one herder adds a cow, the cost is subtracted evenly from the well being of the all herders. The benefits, however, are realised uniquely by the herder who added the cow. ... • 33. In The Bedroom Analysis The short story Killings is written by Andre Dubs which later recreated into a motion picture film called In the Bedroom by director Todd Field in 2001. Both the short story Killings and the film In the Bedroom highlights the themes of love and revenge. It shows how far a person would go for the people they love. The short story was named Killings because it not only focuses on two deaths but the multiple types of death and different aspects of it. Reading the short story Killings and watching the film In the Bedroom I noticed many differences between the two. For example in the short story Killings Matt and Ruth had 3 kids and some grandchildren. In the film In the Bedroom Frank was the only child. I believe the direction Todd Field made this change because he wanted us to focus on the idea of how painful it to lose a child, and how it can affect the relationship between the parents. I honestly thought that was really smart of the director to do since it made us feel how hard it most of been for Matt and Ruth to lose their only child. And how losing Frank made their love for each other kind of disappear. Another differences between the short story and the film was that in Killings the story started off at Frank funeral and later flashback of what had occurred. In the film In the Bedroom the story started from the beginning with Frank and his lover Natalie running in a field, which kind of made the story plot go in chronological order. ...
