Native Hawaiian Bird Diseases
Mosquitoes are the host to many diseases the pose a threat to humans, domestic animals, and
wildlife. Endemic birds are the most affected by the transmission of avian diseases through
mosquitoes. Controlling the mosquito popular is key in bringing back the native bird
population. The Native Hawaiian bird population is particularly prone to mosquitoes and other
foreign pests because of how isolated Hawaii is from the rest of the world. Native Hawaiian
birds outside of the range of mosquitoes at around 1,600 m while birds at a lower elevation have
been going extinct due to mosquitoes. Diseases like the West Nile virus, which is present in the
rest of the 49 states, are like a sharpened sword hanging by a thread threatening not only the birds

Moll Flanders And Sexism In Literature
The appearance of women in 18th Century literary works, was on the rise. Women were side
characters early novels and often used by authors as a device to portray virtue and innocence to the
public. To set a standard of what an modest woman of this time period should stand for and how
they should interact with others. Women used as main protagonist faced great challenges and went
to great lengths to protect their virtue from the inappropriate touch of men. These women were
wives with maternal instincts, who wanted nothing more than to marry for love and have rooms
filled with children and expensive dresses only adding to the sexist stigma that oppressed the
women of this time period. Daniel Defoedecided to set himself apart from these clique novels and
take on the flipped role of critiquing this sexism with his novelthe fortunes and misfortunes of the
famous Moll Flanders. As one of this period may see his novel as a place of sentiment with quick
witted humor and a good adventure novel, others and literary critics today see it as a critique
itself on the sexism of the time period. This was later confirmed to be the intended purpose in his
work essay, his goal was to show women in a different light, to make them understand the world
(p.292). In his fictional tale of the life of moll flanders, Defoe sheds light on several issues
involving the oppression of women which often went unnoticed by society, Through this novel,
defoe weaves in critiques on the strict enforcement of

Psychodynamic And Object Relations Theories
Amongst all psychodynamic approaches, object relations theory fitted like a puzzle for me. I
have an integrated style with a mix of some humanistic and psychodynamic approaches like Freud
s free association or Jung s dream analysis but Object Relations stand out for me. I relate to it at a
deep personal level where my poor relationship with my motheraffected my married life and in my
client work a common thread that ran through was how faulty infantile object relations have an
impact on adult relationships. Object relations theory follows a model that believes that children
are driven by the need for attachment with primary caregivers especially the mother and it is
paramount for the development of a free functioning psychic structure.

Personal Statement For National Health Service
I will like to work within a health sector, namely the National Health Service (NHS). The NHS is
the biggest publicly funded health service in the world and created for good healthcare to

Community nurse has specific duties and responsibilities which they are accountable, to enable the
health improvement and wellbeing of patients holistically. A community nurse is required to take
responsibility for the wellbeing of a group of patients within their homes or residence. It is expected
of a community nurse to undertake comprehensive nursing assessments, to recognize the patient s
needs and to plan, improve and evaluate patient care with the involvement of the patient. It is
important a community nurse stays up to date with training, safe working rules and updating their
knowledge and experience. Accurate documentation of all observations performed, timely to

Snowpiercer Dystopian
The most alarming aspect of dystopias stem from their power to challenge personal and societal
values surrounding the central notion of what it means to be human. This instigates the startling
realisation that the future is greatly dependent on value driven responses to the environmental,
social and political issues of contemporary society. Korean director Joon Ho Bong s 2013 post
apocalyptic dystopian film Snowpiercer depicts the environmental collapse of the Earth as a direct
result of human response to global warming. It also explores the ethical concerns faced by the
lower class citizen within their confined setting on a train in which horrific social stratification is
enforced. Bong presents a dystopian society set in 2031 to prompt... Show more content on

This provokes the shocking realisation that the future is contingent on the response to contemporary
issues. Most dystopian texts paint...a future world that could plausibly happen (DeStefano, 2011)
evident in Bong s Snowpiercer , which was inspired by the threat of geoengineering, a conceptual
global intervention aimed to counteract climate change. At the start of the film, the artificial
cooling substance, CW7, is dispersed into the atmosphere, however a dramatic sting effect
foreshadows it eminent failure. Additionally, the unsettling long shot of the resulting dark,
inhospitable wasteland Earth has become exposes technology s ecological endangerments and the
consequential fate of humanity. The eponymous train bound to circle the uninhabitable Earth is an
allegory for the cyclical nature of scientific develop in the destruction of the natural environment.
Bong critiques humans misplaced reliance on technology to survive CW7 was thought to be the
revolutionary solution to mankind s warming of the planet (Snowpiercer, 2013) and the train is an
artificial motif for the natural world. Through the composer s depiction of an unscrupulous
dystopian future beginning from credible responses to global warming, the most shocking aspect
emerges to be the realisation of the contingency of the future on present

The Rise of Big Business
The Rise of Big Business
The decades after the Civil War rapidly changed the face of the United States. The rapid
industrialization of the nation changed us from generally agrarian to the top industrial power in
the world. Business tycoons thrived during this time, forging great business empires with the use
of trusts and pools. Farmers moved to the cities and into the factories, living off wages and
changing the face of the workforce. This rapid industrialization created wide gaps in society, and
the government, which had originally taken a hands off approach to business, was forced to step in.
1.Many individuals took advantage of the rapid industrialization and high influx of cheap labor in
the form of immigrants. Among these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The federal government also aided in the development of a transcontinental railroad by offering
compensation and land for each mile that Railroad companies built. Because of this, the United
States was quickly brought together from east to west by the railroad. Time zones were
implemented because the railroads needed a standard time to go by, a prime example of the
power of change that industry possessed. Steel sprung up as a major industry in the late 19th
century as well. Carnegie started his steel factories in Pittsburgh, opening many new jobs and
aiding in the trend of urbanization. The steel industry flourished and in 1901 the United States
Steel Corporation was worth over $1.4 billion, the country s first billion dollar corporation. The oil
industry also grew exponentially as America expanded. John D. Rockefeller created the Standard Oil
Company, monopolizing the competition on the way to becoming the richest man in history. The
demand for oil products was bolstered tremendously by the invention of the automobile and the gas
powered engine gave the oil business a highly profitable market. One of the most influential
inventions of the time period was the telephone, introduced by Alexander Graham Bell in 1876. An
enormous communications network was rapidly constructed on this invention. The invention of
telephones attracted many women from the home to work as

Elizabeth Bennet Pride And Prejudice Essay
Elizabeth Bennet stands for the prejudice in the title and Mr. Darcy stands for the pride. This
seems to be correct; Elizabeth is quick to make judgments and is very stubborn as she judges
Mr. Darcy too quickly and with too little information by accepting Wickham s words without
judgment and therefore believes nothing Darcy says is positive about his feelings towards her.
Mr. Darcy acts as if he were superior to the people in Hertfordshire. Mr. Darcy was overly proud,
underrating the ladies at the Meriton ball. Mr. Bingley asks Mr. Darcy to dance, but he answers: At
such an assembly as this it would be insupportable. Your sisters are engaged, and there is not
another womanin the room whom it would not be a punishment to me to stand up with (p. 11)....

redundant to realize that they have both wronged. But later on after realizing their mistakes they
admitted the fact that they were not all wrong one was right. Mr. Darcy was humbled by the
rejection, he says so himself in p. 284: By you I was properly humbled . Mr. Darcy s letter made
Elizabeth accept the fact that she had prejudged him wrongly hence prejudicing their marriage. Also
when Darcy acknowledged that his own pride had hurt Elizabeth, he was ready to completely
change and do what he can to rectify the situation. She too is ready to carry the blame as she
believes that she is responsible for upholding the report given to her by Wickham confidentially

Example Of Behavior Modification
The behavior that I will be choosing to modify is the increase in studying. This is a behavior that
is extremely beneficial to me because I not only learn what I need to know, but I learn how
manage time better and how to set my priorities better. Studying is something I need to modify
because studying to me is something that is difficult to do, mainly because I feel it is like a
chore more than anything else. My mindset on studying is my biggest issue and is the biggest
reason studying is a behavior modification I need to increase. The most I want to study a day is
at least two hours for at least two classes, so a total of four hours a day of studying. Most of the
time when I study, I get sidetracked easily and end up using up time on something else rather than
studying. The antecedent of this behavior may be the problem, because I am not putting myself in
an environment where I can study the best or potentially learn the best. The consequence of that is
that I end up not studying affectively enough for my classes and not doing as good as I would
have liked to.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When I start to find studying to be boring, I find or do something that is more entertaining to me
and compromise time studying for time doing something fun. I put myself in an environment that
lets myself do something I find interesting when I do get bored, and as a consequence I lose time
in my overall studying time and my focus on the subject I am learning. My mindset starting off
when I study a problem too because I see it as a chore and that makes me not want to do it. My
mindset for studying is the key that leads to the consequences talked about

Fraternal Polyandry in Tibet Essay example
Although the various phenomena that involve multiple males involved with one female, have
always been fascinating to anthropologists, there does not seem to be one common explanation
for polyandry. This failure has raised questions about the similarities between the different
societies in which this type of behavior is observed in. From the point of view of Berrman (1975),
polyandry does not have a same manner in all societies and the basis, function, costs and
consequences of polyandry must be studied individually in each society (Goldstein, 1981).
Polyandry is the rarest form of marriageand has been observed in only four societies: the Toda, the
Marquesans, the Nayar and the Tibetans (Lee,1982). Even in polyandrous populations, most... Show

Polyandry may be a practical option in agriculturally based societies where resources are limited
and there are few productive tasks for women and children. In these societies, large families are
disadvantageous as they would only increase consumption without having any changes in
production levels. This situation may arise in societies like Tibet where the economy was based on
agricultural and farmland was a rare commodity (Lee,1982). Due to custom and the legal structure,
Tibet s land was controlled by the landed aristocracy, the government, or the church. Peasants paid
at least two thirds of the annual farm produce in rent. There was no gain in expanding the land and
increasing production since almost all the surplus was paid as rent or taxes. With land being a rare
commodity, the population did however benefit in continuity of tenancy from one generation to the
next, securing their right to occupy the land (Lee,1982).
Tibetan societies practiced fraternal polyandry, the most frequently encountered form by
anthropologists. The wife was therefore in union with men who were all brothers. When the sons of
one generation matured, they would then share one wife.

It is essential that positive behaviour is always promoted and praised to encourage children to

An Individual Detailed Analysis on the Style, Editing...
An individual detailed analysis on the style, editing techniques Mise en scene and
cinematography in the film Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind . Michael Gondry s Eternal
sunshine of the spotless mind (2004) is not your typical Hollywood rom com. Its cinematic style
is very original and by far out of the ordinary for its genre. The use of techniques and the way the
film is produced is the reason why it is so memorable. The non linear narrative is based around a
middle aged guy who falls in love with a woman, who, after a while into their relationship decides
to erase every single memory and feeling towards him. The story is told in flashbacks that slowly
reveal the time and space the couple spent together and all the events that made... Show more

There are plenty of examples of continuity editing in Eternal sunshine, both temporal and spatial are
used. Discontinuity is used throughout the memory erasing scenes with the deliberate use of
ellipsis as Joel relives his memories in flashbacks. Some of the shots from Joel s memories are put
together in a montage edit; this is another example of discontinuity editing. There are multiple uses
of crosscutting in the film, which is when there are a series of shots that keep cutting back and forth
from one shot to another shot, this occurs in a lot of the flashback scenes. Also there are several
jump cuts, which brakes the continuity edit as in order to achieve a smooth and non noticeable cut
from one shot to another the camera must move 30 degrees or more to attain the continuity in the
movement of shots. But a jump cut is deliberately shot without using the 30 degree rule. Therefore
when you put the shots together they make a jump affect and it brakes up the continuity of the edit.
In this case, Gondry intentionally directed the crosscutting and jump cuts in order to express Joel s
reactions to the procedure. At the beginning of the film the editing picks up a rhythm and runs
smoothly, giving a perfect example of continuity editing, but as the film goes on it begins to switch
between continuity and discontinuity as the edit balances

Jealousy By William Shakespeare s Proverbs
In Proverbs 6:34 it is written, For jealousy makes a man furious, and he will not spare when he
takes revenge. Jealousy is an emotion that often makes each of us act and react in a bad way.
Some pout, some stomp the ground and shake their fist and still others yell and scream. Some
people do all of these things at the same time. Revenge is an act, based on an emotion. But is it
formed from the same emotion as jealousy? Or is jealous and revenge separate in formation and
emotion? Many people find revenge to be an extension of jealousy, anger, envy, etc. and are
therefore similar in both formation and emotion. I believe jealousy and revenge are separate
emotions yet similar in formation. Jealousy is an emotion but revenge puts that emotion into
action. Jealousy is an emotion tinged with feelings like anger, insecurity, fear, and resentment.
(ppedia). Jealousy isn t something we can control most of the time. It is a natural, built in emotion
that we all experience at some point. Most of the time jealousy comes from self pity and
insecurity. Hands down, insecurity is the most common source of jealousy writes Dr. Seth Meyers
in Psychology Today. Curbing our jealousy can be difficult, but it is necessary if we want to move
forward and have healthy relationships. Uncontrolled jealousy often causes people to do things they
wouldn t normally do. Small, self perceived insults add fuel to flame our already heightened
emotions. This uncontrolled emotion can lead to

Kirksville Library Volunteers Case
Introduction to Organization and Environment In regards to the Kirksville Library Volunteers
Case, this is a medium sized public library located in a large, southern city. Non profit. Funding. In
order for the library to function beyond the limits of its normal paid staff, the library relies on a
large volunteerreserve of 75 volunteers.
This library functions like many other libraries in its input, throughput, and output. It is most
likely a non profit organization that is funded by sources such as taxes, grants, and private
benefactors. The library also likely runs on a quarterly budget if not a yearly budget and it does not
often have to change how things are done. Because of this, the library by definition falls into a
placid environment. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Volunteers would be guaranteed projects and tasks to do during their shift. In this situation there
would only be one employee managing the 75 volunteers, again this may be too much for one
person. Managing a lot of individuals can cause frustration for the selected employee who is
managing the volunteers, thus disturbing morale in the workplace.
The most practical solution for this management case would be to choose three to four serious,
eligible and qualified volunteers to become Volunteer Coordinators. Each Volunteer Coordinator
would be assigned to one section of the library e.g. circulation, technical services, or outreach and
so on. They would be liaising with staff from the designated section, creating a list of projects and
tasks that could be fulfilled by the volunteer. Previous communication issues would more than
likely be solved between staff and volunteer coordinators.
The Volunteer Coordinators would then select which category of the library volunteers would
work, dividing them up evenly as possible. A trusting relationship will begin to form after the
volunteer works in their designated section. One disadvantage of this arrangement could be that

On September 7th, 1968, hundreds of women gathered on the Atlantic City Boardwalk, carrying
signs and singing songs that all had the main theme of protesting the Miss America Pageant.
Later, they threw items of women s oppression in what they called a freedom trash can. While
the women who were apart of the Miss America Protest worked to defy society s oppression and

African Americans In The Crusades
Jerusalem is of significant value to all Christians since it is the city where Jesus Christ lived and
died. Therefore, it is no surprise that Christians would want to protect this city from Muslim
invaders, just as Muslims had conquered North Africa, Palestine, Mesopotamia, the Persian Empire,
and territories in southern Asia and the Indian subcontinent for their jihad. The word jihad can be
translated as struggle or holy war. Further, Christians often had to work side by side with Muslims
in the territories they captured, specifically when the crusaders formed an alliance with Egyptians
against invading Seljuk Turks because the captured territories often lacked settlers and defenders.
This would mean that crusaders were far more likely to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An account by a Muslim diplomat, politician, and historian, Usamah Ibn Munqidh, gives an
interesting depiction of medical treatment in the West before the Crusades. In his account, he
describes how his uncle was asked to send a doctor to look at some urgent cases by the governor
of Al Mounaitira. The uncle sent a Christian doctor named Thabit that was able to successfully
treat a knight with an abscess on his leg and a woman with consumptive fever. A Frankish doctor
then said the man was incapable of treating the patients and proceeded to order the leg of the
knight to be cut off, through which the knight died during the procedure, and told the woman that
the devil had taken possession of her head, shaving her hair off then later using a razor to cut her
head open in the shape of a cross, scraping away the skin so that bone was showing, and rubbing
her head with salt, from which the woman died . The credibility of this source is questionable
because it is most likely biased, but gives a good description of common medical practices by
Westerners during that time. Medical treatments hadn t truly improved for hundreds of years,
despite the contact between Muslims and Westerners in Crusader States.
An additional benefit of the Crusades was the rediscovery of Aristotle, who the Muslims read from
texts translated from Latin to Arabic.

Were the Difficulties Faced by Charles Ii Due More to...
Were the difficulties faced by Charles II due more to financial concerns than foreign policy in the
years 1667 1678?
Charles II faced a vast amount of difficulties during his reign, but particularly during the period of
1667 1678. He suffered financial difficulties, foreign policy issues and religious problems. Finance
became an obvious problem due to his lack of funds, however his foreign policy was constantly
needing money, and a combination of both left Charles with many difficulties.
A substantial difficulty that Charles II faced was that of finance. Finance was a major issue
between crown and parliament, especially in between the years 1665 to 1667. The Crown s
income had dropped by ВЈ200,000, and MPs believed that the problems ... Show more content on

Almost echoing the problems faced with finance was Charles Foreign policy. Charles planned an
attack on the Dutch in 1672 with help from the French. This required finance and with the payment
of loans, Crown only had an income of ВЈ400,000. So, Charles declared the crown bankrupt,
making it harder to secure future loans but making parliament give him ВЈ1.2 million to fund the
attack on the Dutch. This shows the foreign policy being the reason for the difficulties faced by
Charles, as a lot of the financial concerns were due to the need to fund wars.
From 1670 Charles had a new alliance with France and he wanted a third war against the Dutch
to avenge the humiliation from the second one. Between the years 1673 1674 saw the Dutch war
go badly and it proved costly. This again showed Charles as facing difficulties from the foreign
policy as he was too proud to let the war lie, and therefore again need more funding, relying on
finance. Charles was forced to sign the treaty of Westminster in 1674, which was to end the conflict
and England kept New York, whilst the Dutch kept Surinam. In 1675 Parliament only voted
ВЈ300,000 for the Navy, but due to continuing French success against the Dutch, parliament then
voted ВЈ600,000. This again shows how the foreign policy was affecting the financial situation,
which then continues to drive Charles and Parliament away.

Essay on Characteristics of Dolphins
Characteristics of Dolphins
The majority of small tooth whales are called dolphins. Dolphins are mammals of the order
Cetacean and the families Plantanistidae and Delphinidae and include about 50 species (Internet 1).
Most dolphin species are about 6 feet in length, the males averaging 4 to 8 inches longer than
females. The longest dolphin, the bottle nose dolphin, can reach over nine feet in length and weight
up to 440 pounds. The smallest dolphin species is the buffalo which is found in the Amazon

The Growing Epidemic Of Childhood Obesity
Introduction The United States has seen childhood obesity rates double in children and increase
four times in adolescents since the 1980 s.1 The Center for Disease Control reports that in 2012,
over one third of children and adolescents were considered obese or overweight.1 There is an
urgent need to address the growing epidemic of childhood obesity, as obesity has been shown to
have deteriorating immediate health effects and increase the risk of chronic disease such as
diabetes, osteoarthritis and cancer in adulthood.1 Although there are many influential factors in a
child s weight, nutritionis one of the main ones to consider, as a complete and balanced diet also
promotes healthy growth and development.2 Research indicates that school encompasses a
significant portion of a child s time, cognitive, physical and social development, and as such, has
the responsibility to promote a healthy lifestyle for children.3 Because of the nationwide concern
surrounding childhood obesity, recent federal wellness policy for public schools mandate that
nutrition education, physical activity and other wellness promoting programs must be part of the
school environment.4 The purpose of this review of literature is to evaluate if school nutrition is
one of the major contributors to childhood obesity and how policy changes have affected the
problem. In 2005, the US government made a long lasting impact in the public schoolsystem when
legislation aimed at providing nutritional guidance

How far was the russo Japanese war responsible for the outbreak in Russia 1905?
The Russo Japanese war took place in 1904 to 1905 and began because of both Russia and
Japans desire to expand their borders into places such as Korea. During this war, Russia was
humiliated and had many defeats from a country which were considered to be inferior. The defeat
of this war humiliated the people of Russia and therefore lost confidence in Nicholas II. Russia s
defeat in the war also caused problems in the Military, economic and political problems. This then
means that the Russo Japanese war was partly responsible for the 1905 revolution.

If the Russian people were to turn away, they would have to look somewhere else. Many looked
towards political groups who were prepared to take action. The political implications of the Russo
Japanese war was a major cause of the 1905 Revolution as support left the Tsar and went to
political groups which many believed could take his place.
However, many people believe that the Russo Japanese was not the only cause for the outbreak
of the 1905 revolution. During this period, there were many growing political groups which
many believed would be better than the Tsar because of their more radical thinking. The Russians
mainly supported the Populists the Social Revolutionaries, the Social Democrats and the Liberals.
Throughout the years the groups were slowly providing more opposition to the Tsar and each
other. The most radical, and in some ways successful, group was the Social Revolutionaries (SR).
The SR was heavily against the Tsar and his regimes. They opposed by assassinating many
members of the government including the Minister of the Interior, Plehve in 1904 and Sergei. The
SR became hugely popular due to their radicalism and the fact they are getting closer to their goal
than many other political groups which lead to the public supporting them as opposed to the Tsar
causing the 1905 revolution.
Another big reason why the 1905 revolution was cause was Russia s lack of Political reform

The New Health Care Reform
Lost in the New Health Care Reform In my view The Patients Choice Act that was introduced by
Paul Ryan in 2009 would have been a better choice for the new health care reform than The
Affordable Care Act. Even though there is no health care crisis of the uninsured, Ryan s plan
would have involved incentives for preventive care that could lower the cost of premiums and
encourage healthier lifestyles. Under The Patients Choice Act, the American people retain their
freedom whether to have health care or not; however the ACA has a personal mandate that
requires individuals to carry health care insurance or face a fine (tax). There are consequences
when people feel they have a right to health care instead of working for it. Ryan s... Show more

temporary clinics, such as the clinic that are set up on weekends near Wise, VA (Armstrong and

you work for. Everyone as a United States citizen has the right to pursue quality health care, and
this does not mean it should be given. As Peikoff says in his book, Health Care is Not a Right,
The system guarantees you the chance to work for what you want not to be given it without

Internal Tensions Of The Qing Dynasty Of China
The Qing dynasty of China, which began in 1644, was seen as very isolationist and wary of
foreign trade and imports. However, the Europeans were very interested in developing two way
trade with China. Europeans had to pay directly in silver for the porcelain, silk, spices, and tea they
imported from China. This was a significant stress on the European economy, which was already
strained from internal tensions.
In the early 1700 s the Portuguese introduced a new form of smoke able opium to China. The
opium was mixed with tobacco and became a new commodity in China. Opium trade was originally
dominated by the Dutch, but was soon taken over by the British due to British rule in India and the

The Quick Solution: Junk Food Studies show that a minimum of 1 in 4 people eat junk food
every single day ( 11 Facts About American Eating Habits ). It may appear as a small portion, but
in reality that is almost one billion, seven hundred fifty million individuals who are consuming
processed, fried, and baked foods daily. Even though these foods have no nutritional value and can
lead to different health problems, people would rather eat junk food because of its conveniency and
its way of easing stress. Additionally, due to the popular choice of junk food because of these
reasons, it is common to have developed an addiction to it too quickly, which is another cause of

Compared to ordering from an average restaurant, the waiting time is about 25 minutes per party (
Study Released on Average Restaurant Wait Times ). Just like saving on money, people also want
to save on time. Therefore, they often buy already made or packaged goods that require short
cooking times, or they order from a fast food restaurant. In general, junk food is the quick fix to
being frugal and impatient.
Another cause of junk food over healthy food is due to stress and anxiety. After tireless hours of
work, the human body can feel exhausted and stressed out, these feelings crave junk food.
Research shows that stress also interferes with hunger hormones, like ghrelin, which controls
your appetite (Immanuel 1). The weak body is basically asking for energy and is increasing
appetite, therefore it wants high calorie and sugary foods. In addition, when people are under
stress they do not want to add more problems or worries to their lives. In order to reduce this
stress, people tend to put their clean diets on hold and choose to eat for example, a cheeseburger
instead of rice and vegetables for dinner. In the end, they do not think about the consequent of eating
unhealthy that night. The many people who suffer from anxiety use junk food as a self soother.
The taste of sweet and salty foods can comfort a person, which results in them calming down and
being in a better mood.
Lastly, developing an addiction to junk food is fairly common that one in

Labeling Theory Essay
When discussing the other theories, the meaning of the theory could be derived from the title.
However, when viewing the labeling theory, it does not mean giving behavior a label. The
labeling theory focuses on how other respond or react to the behavior that the juvenile has
committed. There are two types of reactions that juveniles are subjected to, official and informal
reactions. Official reactions would pertain to the reactions from the justice system such as police,
lawyer and the judge. Informal reactions are reactions of those that the juvenile associate with on a

Labeling theorist ask five major questions about the reaction to delinquency: Why certain acts are
defined as delinquent or status offenses, how others react to delinquency, what impact the reaction
to delinquency has on further delinquency, why some juvenile offenders are more likely than
others to experience the harsh/rejecting reaction, and are some juveniles more likely than others to
respond to the harsh/rejecting reaction with further delinquency. is not until a label is given to
someone by someone else in a position of social power that the person becomes a deviant. The
labeling theory has three key elements that attempt to provide insight to the theory. Primary
deviance is behavior that does not behavior that does not conform to the social norms, but the
behavior might be temporary, fleeting, exploratory, trivial, or especially, concealed from most
others. The person who commits the deviant act does not see him/herself as deviant; put
differently, it is not internalized as a part of the person s self concept. Secondary deviance is
behavior that does not conform to the social norms, but the behavior tends to be more sustained
over time. The person continues to do the deviant behavior even after being caught and labeled by a
social institution. The person accepts the deviant label, incorporating it into the person s

Aristotle And Aristotle s Theory Of Virtue
Matt Westermeyer
Epictetus and Aristotle in Practice
Mankind has been searching for existential reasoning since our earliest beginnings. One of the
biggest questions, the one that keeps me up at night, How ought we to live? will be explained from
the viewpoints of Epictetus in his Enchiridion and Aristotle in Nicomachean Ethics. In this paper, I
will discuss both philosophies in principle and practice, while giving insight to how to they may
function in a modern world situation. Although both theories have useful guidance for navigating
the human condition, Aristotle s theory of virtue encompasses more of a real world schematic of
how to interpret oneself in relation to our surroundings through compassion rather than apathy.
Epictetus Enchiridion or Manual lays out guidelines according to his stoic doctrines. He
essentially instructs the reader to understand their relativity to nature and guide one into a
submissive state under the grander scheme of cosmological law. Epictetus tells us to let go of
fears of death and loss and to find balance amongst needed desires and aversions. He assures that
everything happens for some good reason, and that as a rational and sentient creature, one should
see things for how they really are and consider the consequences of our actions and thoughts. Since
beliefs can correct emotions, those who have control over their thoughts are in control of their
freedom; strong words coming from someone who was born into actual physical slavery

The History of and Issues surrounding the Same-Sex...
Same sex marriage is one of the leading political topics in the United States today. There is an
ongoing dispute pertaining to the legalization of same sex marriages. America has shifted its head
to focusing on supporting same sex marriage or not. Many are for and against this topic but there
has been no settlement for it yet. Homosexuals want to marry for the same reason that
heterosexuals have and there should be no reason why they are not allowed to. There is some
history behind this topic but there has yet to be a solution.
During World War II and well after that brought many different social and political changes to the
United States of America. One of the major changes was the discovery of homosexuality. In 1969

this same year President Obama signs a referendum allowing same sex partners to receive benefits
through federal employees.
Homosexuals should be able to be legally married in all the United States due to the fact that
their spouses will be able to get benefits, able to make medical decisions if need be, and get
property inheritance. Even though people believe that civil unions and domestic partnerships are
an alternative to marriage they are wrong. There should be no reason why same sex couples
cannot get married in any place in the United States. The states that do not allow same sex
marriage are severely hurting same sex couples because they are the ones that have to pay when it
comes to medical decisions, employee benefits, and even adopting children. People do not know
this side of the same sex marriage issue and that is what they need to pay more attention to.
When denying homosexuals the right to marry society is saying that gays and lesbians do not have
the same rights as a heterosexual couples and that is not right. Denying marriage to same sex
couples also has emotional and financial

New York City Public Transportation System
Beginning in June of 1952, when the Metropolitan Transportation Authority was founded, advances
in transportation in New York City have improved the city s developing economy and have
benefitted people to a great extent. Located in the heart of Manhattan, the MTA headquarters are
home to hundreds of different vehicles, ridden by thousands daily. The train tracks and bus routes
run through Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island, and the Bronx, unifying all five
boroughs and improving the lives of everyone Beginning at $0.05 and going up to $2.50, one
way bus fare has slowly been increasing since the MTA was founded. Although the cost depends
mainly on how far the vehicle is traveling, this is the standard expense and the difference is
significant. This cost is beneficial to travellers because it is inexpensive, and convenient for day to

Along with convenience, there are multiple economic benefits to using New York Citypublic

further research, it was found that Sebastian Junger used to work in a labor intensive job as well.
He was a climber for a tree company. After he was hurt on the job, Junger realized that dangerous
work was not written about a lot. As the terrible storm hit Gloucester and a fishing boat was lost at
sea, Sebastion decided he would shine light on another dangerous business, the open seas fishing
industry.
The subject of The Perfect Storm is the Andrea Gail and the storm that it was trapped and
eventually perished in. The subject is stated at the beginning of the book in the Forward. Here,
Junger describes his writing process, his inspiration, and the subject of his book. Throughout the
book, Junger

Causes And Effects Of Tsunamis
Run for your life! screams a little Indonesian boy. An eighty foot tall water wave of pure terror
barrels towards him and millions of other people. On December 26, 2004, an enormous tsunami
wrecked Indonesia, killed nearly 200,000, and left over half a million more homeless. This is not
the only time something like this happens. Tsunamis happen all over the world, and they are
common. They vary in size and destruction but are all very similar. Tsunamis are unique natural
disasters due to the way they travel and form, as well as their effects of destruction.
The travel of tsunamis is always alike. They travel fast across the ocean and end up on the shore
of some country. Cited from National Geographic Tsunamis race across the sea at over 500 miles
an hour, about as fast as a jet plane. At that pace, they can cross the entire expanse of the Pacific
Ocean in less than a day. ( Tsunamis ). This goes to show just unbelievably fast tsunamis can rip
across the ocean. When tsunamis cross the ocean, they are not fully formed gigantic waves rolling
across an ocean. Instead, they are about five feet tall at the maximum, Gravity acts quickly against
the waves it appears flat on the surface. BrainPOP explained that although the water appears flat,
waves are constantly moving fast, and can extend thousands of feet deep. The deeper the ocean is,
the faster the tsunami travels. When the depth gets shallower as it reaches the shore, it increases in
size and becomes the big wave that many know as a tsunami. Scientists detect and measure
tsunamis before they reach their destination. Stated in an article by Steven Ward, By analyzing
seismic waves, scientists can determine when and where an undersea earthquake has occurred and
calculate its strength. Therefore, they can discover tsunamis and warn the area that will be hit.
Warnings are needed because tsunamis can happen at any coast in the world. Tsunamis form
through various different things. They can be started from volcanoes, asteroids, landslides, and
many other things, but the most common is an undersea earthquake. BrainPOP proclaimed that as
two tectonic plates press together, the heavier plate slides under the lighter one and causes a
disruption above. When

Volunteering Motivations And Their Well Being
An Integrative Research Paper On:
VOLUNTEERING MOTIVATIONS AND THEIR WELL BEING by Joseph A. Sagadraca
Summer 2015 Practicum at the American Red Cross
University of North Florida
Dr. Jody Nicholson
July 31, 2015
ABSTRACT
With considerable amounts of psychological research focused on volunteers, this paper will attempt
to indicate and reiterate the motivations of volunteers in non profit organizations through an
integrative style of thinking. A lot of research is based on the well being of a person in regards to
their motivation, so this research paper will target the potentially important aspects a volunteer
associates themselves with, with respect of their motivations and their well being. No real research
has been done, but through an internship at the American Red Cross, this will assist the integrative
style of writing to produce helpful information for volunteers and their motivations.
INTRODUCTION For many years, millions of people have engaged in some kind of volunteering
act that has contributed to a number of unimaginable hours of work. Of these people though, 49%
have represented the adult population with a quarter of them having devoted their time to 5 or
more hours per week for volunteering (the motivations to volunteer). These figures for volunteering
have been inspiring for psychologists to seek and understand the instrumental factors that lead
people to volunteer. Several arguments have been stirred throughout the years, but importantly,

The Death Is Not Fair
Death is not fair. Some see death as an enemy to defeat, others as a friend to welcome. Some die
young, others with long life expectancy. Some die quickly and violently, others slowly but
peacefully. Some die naturally without pain. Other, especially people with incurable illnesses,
such as cancer or AIDS, die by inches in great sufferings. Even though medical treatment and
palliative care are advancing at a fast speed, they are often not available or not effective enough
for those terminally ill patients. Besides devastating pain, what is the worst is losing control of one
s life and having to wait for deathin despair and indignity. As a result, an increasing number of
dying patients want more control over the timing and manner of their deaths and want to have the
option of a humane, peaceful death. A substantial majority of citizens believe that competent,
terminally ill patients should have the option of receiving medication that patients could self
administer to bring about a humane and peaceful death if pain and suffering become intolerable,
and a majority of physicians believe such patients should have this option (Tucker). Over the past
two decades, both professionals and citizens have shown a markedly favorable shift towards the
legalization of physician assisted suicide. Yet the translation of that endorsement into a feasible
legislation process has not followed that pace.
Terminal diseases affect people on a dramatic scale. Last year, 56,230 deaths occurred as a

The Mathematics Involved in Deciphering A Crime Scene
Introduction
Though one may assume that the logistics involved with deducing the events that occurred at a
crime scene merely involve the reasonable deduction skills of an individual, in reality adequate
results can only be achieved through the use of certain mathematical methods. For this particular
investigation, the examples deal with a homicide case where it is known that there was only one
shooter and one victim. In order to analyze blood patterns and determine a time of death, the
Pythagorean Theorem and Newton s Law of Cooling must be utilized. This exploration is important
to my future as an attorney with a focus on homicide cases. It will be important to discover the
uncertainties associated with each of these methods, as they appear quite simple to begin with.
Proving the Pythagorean Theorem
In an effort to fully understand the Pythagorean Theorem, I must first examine a method used to
derive the formula. Whilst I examined several different methods, I was confused as to how a
person could think of such strategies. This method was first derived by Bhaskara. I used this proof,
because it best connects with the crime scene situation at hand. The use of multiple triangles and
squares mimic the makeup of a room.
Bhaskara s Proof: I decided to manipulate Bhaskara s method and make it more understandable for
my usage.
My interpretation

The Tour Of Your Life
THE TOUR OF YOUR LIFE
It was mid October in Rosewood. The adults were working at their jobs and most of the children
were attending school at the Palm Valley School District. It was a pretty normal life here for James
Miles, who was currently attending eighth grade at Palm Valley Middle School. He had a few
friends, had pretty good grades, and was enjoying his life quite fine as it was. At the time, he was
sitting on the walkway during recess, thinking intriguing things while waiting for lunch.
Yo, James! Come ere! knocked James out of my train of thought.
Dad gum it, Robert, always interrupting my thoughts... Ugh... James thought to himself as he stood
up from where he was sitting and walked over to where Robert was. Oh, and Robert ... Show more

This was one of the flyers the school prints out every Monday morning that tells about the foods the
cafeteria will serve each day and all the events happening during the week. James read through the
handout, looking for events that would happen that day. After reading through the lunch section, he
finally came to the Occasion Section.
Occasion Section
Okay, kids! Here are all the things you have to look forward to this week! Have fun!
MONDAY
There will be a Student Council meeting at 11:30 during lunch.
TUESDAY
You will get Progress reports
WEDNESDAY
Donations to the local foodbank will begin
THURSDAY
There will be a drawing to go to a tour of the band
That s about as far as he got before widening his eyes a bit. The tour was for Verdant Harmony.
That was his favorite band. He couldn t believe it. There was no way this was real. They were
giving away tickets to the Verdant Harmony band tour? No way! He slowly looked up at Robert,
who had a super wide grin on his face. So, what do you think? asked Robert, waiting for the
response he knew was coming. James stood motionless for a minute in disbelief. Uhhh... How do
you think we can win this, though? There are about three hundred twenty students in the school!
What are the odds one of us is going to win? asked James concernedly. Honestly, having the odds
of two out of three hundred is a pretty bad circumstance, especially since they were going for two

Glendale City Council Case
GLENDALE, CA Threatened with a lawsuit that claims their current electoral system discriminates
against Latino voters, the Glendale City Council, the Glendale Community College District Board
(GCCD), and the Glendale Unified School District (GUSD) have considered introducing measures
that would replace the city s at large votingsystem with council districts.
Attorney Kevin Shenkman sent a letter to the City, the GCCD, and GUSD threatening to file a
lawsuit, asserting that the election system of the three bodies violates the California Voting Rights
Act of 2001. Shenkman wants the aforementioned bodies to create specific geographic council
districts to replace the current at large voting system.

Shenkman would have to show specifically how the city s current electoral system discriminates
against the Latino population of the city. According to the United StatesCensus data, Latinos
represent about 17% of Glendale s 196,000 residents.
Despite publicly opposing the initiative of a new, district based system, the members of the City
Council created Measure D, which would abandon the current at large electoral system and split the
community into districts. Several of the members also stated that the decision on this important
issue should be up to voters.
Glendale voters, however, soundly defeated two measures which would create a district based
system for the City of Glendale and the Glendale Unified Board of Education. This outcome means
that the current at large voting system will remain in place, thus creating a possibility for potential
litigation.
According to LA Times, no California city has won a lawsuit challenging its at large voting system.
The cities of Bell, Palmdale, Anaheim, Whittier, and Escondido all went to court and lost, and later
had to adopt voting

Greenpeace is an organization which often collides with governments in countries all over the
world in its attempt to stop things like global warming, deforestation, overfishing and more.
Greenpeace tries to reach their goals by direct action and lobbying. This is the part where they often
collide with the governments.
My questions about this topic are:
What conflicts does Greenpeace have (or did they have) with the government and corporations in
the Netherlands and governments and corporations of other countries in the world?
How exactly does Greenpeace influence governments and corporations?

spoke to councilors and they dumped nuclear waste in several places. By now, more than 75
cities said no to nuclear waste and the energy company Delta declared in January to have put the

However, minister Verhagen still wants a second NPP, though he does not seen to get much support

In December 2011, Greenpeace campaigned in the harbor of IJmuiden against harmful giant ships

The ships against which Greenpeace was campaigning was part of the Pelagic Freezer Trawler

Essay on Rodin s Study for Falling Man and The Kiss
Rodin s Study for Falling Man and The Kiss
In Study for Falling Man Rodin used a fluid, supple motion to arch the figure s back, throwing the
body into a dramatic curve. His understanding of anatomy echoes that of Michelangelo, whose
works enthralled Rodin, as he wrote: My liberation from academism was effected by Michelangelo.
Rodin s The Kiss is a representation of the story of Paolo, the brother of Gianciotto, and
Francesca, Gianciotto s wife, in Dante s book The Divine Comedy: Inferno. They fell in love while
reading romances of courtly love and after exchanging their first kiss,
Gianciotto caught them by surprise and stabbed them.
Rodin being an impressionist created the sculpture in true human form.

The passionate love of Francesca da Rimini and Paolo Malatesta was a theme which Rodin used
to inspire The Kiss. Although it was originally intended to be part of the Gates of Hell, Rodin did
not feel that it fit and removed the figures to make them an individual statue. The form of the lovers
emerges from the highlights and shadows of the statue. Light and shade were used by Rodin to
create an impression of actuality. The convulsive contractionof the toes on the man s right foot and
the tenseness of his hand in contrast to the woman s thigh. Such details reveal much of the passion
that inflames the lovers, but they reveal it with taste and refinement.
Rodin s sculpture combined both the realistic and romantic tendencies present in French society at
the time. In his work he aimed to capture and represent inner feeling and the subsequent state of
mind.
Rodin was a believer in the power of art. He believed that art was on par with religion and that
through art you could say all that could be said about the relationship between man and the world.
Rodin also wanted nature to be the influence behind his work, but was more interested in the
simplicity and beauty of the natural form of the human body
His subject as in all his work is the human form. His style tends to vary between either a
deliberate roughness of form to a very polished and delicate approach of modelling the body.

Herodotus Research Paper
When we think of the word history we automatically think of the past. History comes from the
Greek word historia meaning inquiring, knowledge thru investigation. This is exactly what
Herodotus did, he wrote what he investigated. This is why Herodotus is known as The Father of
History , he was the first author to investigate and write his findings. He was thirsty for knowledge
like many of us. He wanted more and he got it. Although he was named The Father of Historyhe
was also named The Father of Lies , I will investigate and find why he was named the two.
Herodotus of Halicarnassus, is best known as The Father of History . Herodotus was born in 485
B.C, in the town of Halicarnassus located in the Caria, Asia Minor. Herodotus s family was then
exiled to Samos in 6th BC because they opposed Lygdamis. Herodotus was the son of Lyxes and
Dryo but he was not the only one in his family to make it into the history books, Herodotus was
nephew to poet Panyassis. According to the Britannica Encyclopedia, 2014) Panyassis was
condemned to death by Lygdamis. Herodotus only returned to his homeland of Halicarnassus once
to take part in a rebellion only to leave and never return. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Problems With Immigration Policy

Many families get detained, as a society we have put ourselves in immigrants shoes and take in
consideration their perceiving lenses. A lot of families take great measures to come to the united

there is other scholars that have a different view point on detention centers for immigrants. In the
article From Bare Life to bureaucratic capitalism: analyzing the growth of the immigration detention
industry as a complex organization by Matthew Flynn states
Although it remains very much a contested issue, many observers have concluded that deterrence
policies and tactics employed by wealthy, advanced capitalist states of the West will not over the
long term curtail efforts by migrants and asylum seekers to make perilous journeys across
international borders in search of safe havens and better living conditions (Sampson 2015).
The article shows that not all scholars think alike. The author is stating that even though there a lot
of focus on the detention process against immigrants that will not stop people s effort to migrate in

Delaware Horses History
There is a trail down the road in Delaware where I enjoy taking my dog for a walk. It is a
beautiful, five mile loop traversing cornfields, thick patches of forest, steep hills and flowing
streams; a wonderful place to escape the hustle and bustle of the suburban lifestyle and spend
some time amongst the peacefulness of nature. It is not a complete escape, however, for I am
not the only person that knows of the trail it seems to also be a favorite of horseback riders.
Often times I will encounter a rider or two at some point during my walk and, without fail, I will
be in awe of the size and majesty of the horse. What an incredible, gentle beast it is. Standing next
to a horse, you cannot help but gawk at the bulging, toned muscles and long, agile legs. It is truly
an athlete with a rare combination of strength and speed. Yet, they are gentle and kind and have

interesting that it was not necessarily gradual. Most of the changes in size, structure and teeth did
not happen until the Miocene, upon which the development was rapid. Figure 5 shows the mass of
Equid genera in comparison to when they lived. For the first half of equid development, barely any
change occurred. This displays how important environmental factors are in the evolution of species;
without the emergence and prominence of open grasslands in the Miocene, horses as we know

  • 3. Moll Flanders And Sexism In Literature The appearance of women in 18th Century literary works, was on the rise. Women were side characters early novels and often used by authors as a device to portray virtue and innocence to the public. To set a standard of what an modest woman of this time period should stand for and how they should interact with others. Women used as main protagonist faced great challenges and went to great lengths to protect their virtue from the inappropriate touch of men. These women were wives with maternal instincts, who wanted nothing more than to marry for love and have rooms filled with children and expensive dresses only adding to the sexist stigma that oppressed the women of this time period. Daniel Defoedecided to set himself apart from these clique novels and take on the flipped role of critiquing this sexism with his novelthe fortunes and misfortunes of the famous Moll Flanders. As one of this period may see his novel as a place of sentiment with quick witted humor and a good adventure novel, others and literary critics today see it as a critique itself on the sexism of the time period. This was later confirmed to be the intended purpose in his work essay, his goal was to show women in a different light, to make them understand the world (p.292). In his fictional tale of the life of moll flanders, Defoe sheds light on several issues involving the oppression of women which often went unnoticed by society, Through this novel, defoe weaves in critiques on the strict enforcement of ... I have an integrated style with a mix of some humanistic and psychodynamic approaches like Freud s free association or Jung s dream analysis but Object Relations stand out for me. I relate to it at a deep personal level where my poor relationship with my motheraffected my married life and in my client work a common thread that ran through was how faulty infantile object relations have an impact on adult relationships. Object relations theory follows a model that believes that children are driven by the need for attachment with primary caregivers especially the mother and it is paramount for the development of a free functioning psychic structure. ... • 6. Snowpiercer Dystopian The most alarming aspect of dystopias stem from their power to challenge personal and societal values surrounding the central notion of what it means to be human. This instigates the startling realisation that the future is greatly dependent on value driven responses to the environmental, social and political issues of contemporary society. Korean director Joon Ho Bong s 2013 post apocalyptic dystopian film Snowpiercer depicts the environmental collapse of the Earth as a direct result of human response to global warming. It also explores the ethical concerns faced by the lower class citizen within their confined setting on a train in which horrific social stratification is enforced. Most dystopian texts paint...a future world that could plausibly happen (DeStefano, 2011) evident in Bong s Snowpiercer , which was inspired by the threat of geoengineering, a conceptual global intervention aimed to counteract climate change. At the start of the film, the artificial cooling substance, CW7, is dispersed into the atmosphere, however a dramatic sting effect foreshadows it eminent failure. Additionally, the unsettling long shot of the resulting dark, inhospitable wasteland Earth has become exposes technology s ecological endangerments and the consequential fate of humanity. The rapid industrialization of the nation changed us from generally agrarian to the top industrial power in the world. Business tycoons thrived during this time, forging great business empires with the use of trusts and pools. Farmers moved to the cities and into the factories, living off wages and changing the face of the workforce. This rapid industrialization created wide gaps in society, and the government, which had originally taken a hands off approach to business, was forced to step in. 1.Many individuals took advantage of the rapid industrialization and high influx of cheap labor in the form of immigrants. Steel sprung up as a major industry in the late 19th century as well. Carnegie started his steel factories in Pittsburgh, opening many new jobs and aiding in the trend of urbanization. The steel industry flourished and in 1901 the United States Steel Corporation was worth over $1.4 billion, the country s first billion dollar corporation. The oil industry also grew exponentially as America expanded. John D. Rockefeller created the Standard Oil Company, monopolizing the competition on the way to becoming the richest man in history. The demand for oil products was bolstered tremendously by the invention of the automobile and the gas powered engine gave the oil business a highly profitable market. This seems to be correct; Elizabeth is quick to make judgments and is very stubborn as she judges Mr. Darcy too quickly and with too little information by accepting Wickham s words without judgment and therefore believes nothing Darcy says is positive about his feelings towards her. Mr. Darcy acts as if he were superior to the people in Hertfordshire. Mr. Darcy was overly proud, underrating the ladies at the Meriton ball. Mr. Bingley asks Mr. Darcy to dance, but he answers: At such an assembly as this it would be insupportable. Mr. Darcy s letter made Elizabeth accept the fact that she had prejudged him wrongly hence prejudicing their marriage. Also when Darcy acknowledged that his own pride had hurt Elizabeth, he was ready to completely change and do what he can to rectify the situation. This is a behavior that is extremely beneficial to me because I not only learn what I need to know, but I learn how manage time better and how to set my priorities better. Studying is something I need to modify because studying to me is something that is difficult to do, mainly because I feel it is like a chore more than anything else. My mindset on studying is my biggest issue and is the biggest reason studying is a behavior modification I need to increase. The most I want to study a day is at least two hours for at least two classes, so a total of four hours a day of studying. Most of the time when I study, I get sidetracked easily and end up using up time on something else rather than studying. The antecedent of this behavior may be the problem, because I am not putting myself in an environment where I can study the best or potentially learn the best. • 11. Fraternal Polyandry in Tibet Essay example Although the various phenomena that involve multiple males involved with one female, have always been fascinating to anthropologists, there does not seem to be one common explanation for polyandry. This failure has raised questions about the similarities between the different societies in which this type of behavior is observed in. From the point of view of Berrman (1975), polyandry does not have a same manner in all societies and the basis, function, costs and consequences of polyandry must be studied individually in each society (Goldstein, 1981). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Polyandry may be a practical option in agriculturally based societies where resources are limited and there are few productive tasks for women and children. In these societies, large families are disadvantageous as they would only increase consumption without having any changes in production levels. This situation may arise in societies like Tibet where the economy was based on agricultural and farmland was a rare commodity (Lee,1982). Due to custom and the legal structure, Tibet s land was controlled by the landed aristocracy, the government, or the church. Peasants paid at least two thirds of the annual farm produce in rent. There was no gain in expanding the land and increasing production since almost all the surplus was paid as rent or taxes. With land being a rare commodity, the population did however benefit in continuity of tenancy from one generation to the next, securing their right to occupy the land (Lee,1982). Tibetan societies practiced fraternal polyandry, the most frequently encountered form by anthropologists. The wife was therefore in union with men who were all brothers. When the sons of one generation matured, they would then share one wife. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An individual detailed analysis on the style, editing techniques Mise en scene and cinematography in the film Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind . Michael Gondry s Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind (2004) is not your typical Hollywood rom com. Its cinematic style is very original and by far out of the ordinary for its genre. The use of techniques and the way the film is produced is the reason why it is so memorable. The non linear narrative is based around a middle aged guy who falls in love with a woman, who, after a while into their relationship decides to erase every single memory and feeling towards him. The story is told in flashbacks that slowly reveal the time and space the couple spent together and all the events that made... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are plenty of examples of continuity editing in Eternal sunshine, both temporal and spatial are used. Discontinuity is used throughout the memory erasing scenes with the deliberate use of ellipsis as Joel relives his memories in flashbacks. Some of the shots from Joel s memories are put together in a montage edit; this is another example of discontinuity editing. There are multiple uses of crosscutting in the film, which is when there are a series of shots that keep cutting back and forth from one shot to another shot, this occurs in a lot of the flashback scenes. Also there are several jump cuts, which brakes the continuity edit as in order to achieve a smooth and non noticeable cut from one shot to another the camera must move 30 degrees or more to attain the continuity in the movement of shots. But a jump cut is deliberately shot without using the 30 degree rule. Therefore when you put the shots together they make a jump affect and it brakes up the continuity of the edit. In this case, Gondry intentionally directed the crosscutting and jump cuts in order to express Joel s reactions to the procedure. At the beginning of the film the editing picks up a rhythm and runs smoothly, giving a perfect example of continuity editing, but as the film goes on it begins to switch between continuity and discontinuity as the edit balances ... • 14. Jealousy By William Shakespeare s Proverbs In Proverbs 6:34 it is written, For jealousy makes a man furious, and he will not spare when he takes revenge. Jealousy is an emotion that often makes each of us act and react in a bad way. Some pout, some stomp the ground and shake their fist and still others yell and scream. Some people do all of these things at the same time. Revenge is an act, based on an emotion. But is it formed from the same emotion as jealousy? Or is jealous and revenge separate in formation and emotion? Many people find revenge to be an extension of jealousy, anger, envy, etc. and are therefore similar in both formation and emotion. I believe jealousy and revenge are separate emotions yet similar in formation. Jealousy is an emotion but revenge puts that emotion into action. Jealousy is an emotion tinged with feelings like anger, insecurity, fear, and resentment. (ppedia). Jealousy isn t something we can control most of the time. It is a natural, built in emotion that we all experience at some point. Most of the time jealousy comes from self pity and insecurity. Hands down, insecurity is the most common source of jealousy writes Dr. Seth Meyers in Psychology Today. Curbing our jealousy can be difficult, but it is necessary if we want to move forward and have healthy relationships. Uncontrolled jealousy often causes people to do things they wouldn t normally do. Small, self perceived insults add fuel to flame our already heightened emotions. This uncontrolled emotion can lead to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Managing a lot of individuals can cause frustration for the selected employee who is managing the volunteers, thus disturbing morale in the workplace. The most practical solution for this management case would be to choose three to four serious, eligible and qualified volunteers to become Volunteer Coordinators. Each Volunteer Coordinator would be assigned to one section of the library e.g. circulation, technical services, or outreach and so on. They would be liaising with staff from the designated section, creating a list of projects and tasks that could be fulfilled by the volunteer. Previous communication issues would more than likely be solved between staff and volunteer coordinators. The Volunteer Coordinators would then select which category of the library volunteers would work, dividing them up evenly as possible. A trusting relationship will begin to form after the volunteer works in their designated section. One disadvantage of this arrangement could be that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In his account, he describes how his uncle was asked to send a doctor to look at some urgent cases by the governor of Al Mounaitira. The uncle sent a Christian doctor named Thabit that was able to successfully treat a knight with an abscess on his leg and a woman with consumptive fever. A Frankish doctor then said the man was incapable of treating the patients and proceeded to order the leg of the knight to be cut off, through which the knight died during the procedure, and told the woman that the devil had taken possession of her head, shaving her hair off then later using a razor to cut her head open in the shape of a cross, scraping away the skin so that bone was showing, and rubbing her head with salt, from which the woman died . Charles II faced a vast amount of difficulties during his reign, but particularly during the period of 1667 1678. He suffered financial difficulties, foreign policy issues and religious problems. Finance became an obvious problem due to his lack of funds, however his foreign policy was constantly needing money, and a combination of both left Charles with many difficulties. A substantial difficulty that Charles II faced was that of finance. Finance was a major issue between crown and parliament, especially in between the years 1665 to 1667. Charles planned an attack on the Dutch in 1672 with help from the French. This required finance and with the payment of loans, Crown only had an income of ВЈ400,000. So, Charles declared the crown bankrupt, making it harder to secure future loans but making parliament give him ВЈ1.2 million to fund the attack on the Dutch. This shows the foreign policy being the reason for the difficulties faced by Charles, as a lot of the financial concerns were due to the need to fund wars. From 1670 Charles had a new alliance with France and he wanted a third war against the Dutch to avenge the humiliation from the second one. Between the years 1673 1674 saw the Dutch war go badly and it proved costly. This again showed Charles as facing difficulties from the foreign policy as he was too proud to let the war lie, and therefore again need more funding, relying on finance. Charles was forced to sign the treaty of Westminster in 1674, which was to end the conflict and England kept New York, whilst the Dutch kept Surinam. In 1675 Parliament only voted ВЈ300,000 for the Navy, but due to continuing French success against the Dutch, parliament then voted ВЈ600,000. • 37. Aristotle And Aristotle s Theory Of Virtue Matt Westermeyer Epictetus and Aristotle in Practice Mankind has been searching for existential reasoning since our earliest beginnings. One of the biggest questions, the one that keeps me up at night, How ought we to live? will be explained from the viewpoints of Epictetus in his Enchiridion and Aristotle in Nicomachean Ethics. In this paper, I will discuss both philosophies in principle and practice, while giving insight to how to they may function in a modern world situation. Although both theories have useful guidance for navigating the human condition, Aristotle s theory of virtue encompasses more of a real world schematic of how to interpret oneself in relation to our surroundings through compassion rather than apathy. Epictetus Enchiridion or Manual lays out guidelines according to his stoic doctrines. He essentially instructs the reader to understand their relativity to nature and guide one into a submissive state under the grander scheme of cosmological law. Epictetus tells us to let go of fears of death and loss and to find balance amongst needed desires and aversions. He assures that everything happens for some good reason, and that as a rational and sentient creature, one should see things for how they really are and consider the consequences of our actions and thoughts. Since beliefs can correct emotions, those who have control over their thoughts are in control of their freedom; strong words coming from someone who was born into actual physical slavery ... • 41. Causes And Effects Of Tsunamis Run for your life! screams a little Indonesian boy. An eighty foot tall water wave of pure terror barrels towards him and millions of other people. On December 26, 2004, an enormous tsunami wrecked Indonesia, killed nearly 200,000, and left over half a million more homeless. This is not the only time something like this happens. Tsunamis happen all over the world, and they are common. They vary in size and destruction but are all very similar. Tsunamis are unique natural disasters due to the way they travel and form, as well as their effects of destruction. The travel of tsunamis is always alike. They travel fast across the ocean and end up on the shore of some country. Cited from National Geographic Tsunamis race across the sea at over 500 miles an hour, about as fast as a jet plane. At that pace, they can cross the entire expanse of the Pacific Ocean in less than a day. ( Tsunamis ). This goes to show just unbelievably fast tsunamis can rip across the ocean. When tsunamis cross the ocean, they are not fully formed gigantic waves rolling across an ocean. Instead, they are about five feet tall at the maximum, Gravity acts quickly against the waves it appears flat on the surface. BrainPOP explained that although the water appears flat, waves are constantly moving fast, and can extend thousands of feet deep. The deeper the ocean is, the faster the tsunami travels. When the depth gets shallower as it reaches the shore, it increases in size and becomes the big wave that many know as a tsunami. Scientists detect and measure tsunamis before they reach their destination. Stated in an article by Steven Ward, By analyzing seismic waves, scientists can determine when and where an undersea earthquake has occurred and calculate its strength. Therefore, they can discover tsunamis and warn the area that will be hit. Warnings are needed because tsunamis can happen at any coast in the world. Tsunamis form through various different things. They can be started from volcanoes, asteroids, landslides, and many other things, but the most common is an undersea earthquake. BrainPOP proclaimed that as two tectonic plates press together, the heavier plate slides under the lighter one and causes a disruption above. When ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A lot of research is based on the well being of a person in regards to their motivation, so this research paper will target the potentially important aspects a volunteer associates themselves with, with respect of their motivations and their well being. No real research has been done, but through an internship at the American Red Cross, this will assist the integrative style of writing to produce helpful information for volunteers and their motivations. Of these people though, 49% have represented the adult population with a quarter of them having devoted their time to 5 or more hours per week for volunteering (the motivations to volunteer). • 43. The Death Is Not Fair Death is not fair. Some see death as an enemy to defeat, others as a friend to welcome. Some die young, others with long life expectancy. Some die quickly and violently, others slowly but peacefully. Some die naturally without pain. Other, especially people with incurable illnesses, such as cancer or AIDS, die by inches in great sufferings. Even though medical treatment and palliative care are advancing at a fast speed, they are often not available or not effective enough for those terminally ill patients. Besides devastating pain, what is the worst is losing control of one s life and having to wait for deathin despair and indignity. As a result, an increasing number of dying patients want more control over the timing and manner of their deaths and want to have the option of a humane, peaceful death. A substantial majority of citizens believe that competent, terminally ill patients should have the option of receiving medication that patients could self administer to bring about a humane and peaceful death if pain and suffering become intolerable, and a majority of physicians believe such patients should have this option (Tucker). Over the past two decades, both professionals and citizens have shown a markedly favorable shift towards the legalization of physician assisted suicide. Yet the translation of that endorsement into a feasible legislation process has not followed that pace. Terminal diseases affect people on a dramatic scale. Last year, 56,230 deaths occurred as a ... Mathematics Of Deciphering A Crime Scene Amanda Stevenson IB Mathematics SL Block 1 December 2014 Internal Assessment The Mathematics Involved in Deciphering A Crime Scene Introduction Though one may assume that the logistics involved with deducing the events that occurred at a crime scene merely involve the reasonable deduction skills of an individual, in reality adequate results can only be achieved through the use of certain mathematical methods. For this particular investigation, the examples deal with a homicide case where it is known that there was only one shooter and one victim. In order to analyze blood patterns and determine a time of death, the Pythagorean Theorem and Newton s Law of Cooling must be utilized. This exploration is important to my future as an attorney with a focus on homicide cases. It will be important to discover the uncertainties associated with each of these methods, as they appear quite simple to begin with. Proving the Pythagorean Theorem In an effort to fully understand the Pythagorean Theorem, I must first examine a method used to derive the formula. Whilst I examined several different methods, I was confused as to how a person could think of such strategies. This method was first derived by Bhaskara. I used this proof, because it best connects with the crime scene situation at hand. The use of multiple triangles and squares mimic the makeup of a room. The passionate love of Francesca da Rimini and Paolo Malatesta was a theme which Rodin used to inspire The Kiss. Although it was originally intended to be part of the Gates of Hell, Rodin did not feel that it fit and removed the figures to make them an individual statue. The form of the lovers emerges from the highlights and shadows of the statue. Light and shade were used by Rodin to create an impression of actuality. The convulsive contractionof the toes on the man s right foot and the tenseness of his hand in contrast to the woman s thigh. Such details reveal much of the passion that inflames the lovers, but they reveal it with taste and refinement. Rodin s sculpture combined both the realistic and romantic tendencies present in French society at the time. In his work he aimed to capture and represent inner feeling and the subsequent state of mind. Rodin was a believer in the power of art. He believed that art was on par with religion and that through art you could say all that could be said about the relationship between man and the world. Often times I will encounter a rider or two at some point during my walk and, without fail, I will be in awe of the size and majesty of the horse. What an incredible, gentle beast it is. Standing next to a horse, you cannot help but gawk at the bulging, toned muscles and long, agile legs. It is truly an athlete with a rare combination of strength and speed. Yet, they are gentle and kind and have therefore been joined at the hip with humans; today, nearly all horses have been domesticated. So I find myself... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While the changes in equids from their beginnings until now are drastic, I found it interesting that it was not necessarily gradual. Most of the changes in size, structure and teeth did not happen until the Miocene, upon which the development was rapid. Figure 5 shows the mass of Equid genera in comparison to when they lived. For the first half of equid development, barely any change occurred. This displays how important environmental factors are in the evolution of species; without the emergence and prominence of open grasslands in the Miocene, horses as we know them today would almost certainly not ... According to Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) twenty percent of receptionist and medical records staff and fifteen percent of nursing staff turn over each year. This turnover affects healthcare organizations in many different ways including customer satisfaction, quality of service, workplace productivity, employee morale, workflow efficiency and the organizations finances. Organizations that invest in their human capital and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Less absenteeism and tardiness will help the operating room schedule stay on time, which also makes patients and surgeons happy. (Linder, March 2013). The importance of having an experienced, full time core staff in an ambulatory surgical center is what surgeons will rely on (Rienzo Nelson, 2009). However, maintaining an adequate per diem staff in all job categories is important to cover the regular days off, vacation time, and sick calls of the full time staff, ensuring your ASC is never left shorthanded (Rienzo Nelson, 2009). Flexible schedules for staff members should include both paid and unpaid options, as well as time off for reasons other than vacation or sick days. This will build employee loyalty and can make up for the days when staff members are sent home early without pay for scheduling compression (Linder, March ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
