Compare And Contrast Augustus And Shi Huangdi
Caesar Augustus and Qin Shi Huangdi During the classical civilizations there were many types of
rulers and governments, two of these include Augustus from the Roman Empire and Qin Shi Huangdi
from the Qin Dynasty in China. Both of these emperors were from classical civilizations but their own
different civilization, on in Rome and the other in China. My goal in this paper is to compare and
contrast these two rulers from different civilizations by looking at their characteristics, such as how
they came to power, how they ruled, their successes and failures as well as their legacy. First and
foremost, both Augustus, whose original name was Octavian, and Qin Shi Huangdi came to power
through military power. While they both used military power ... Show more content on

Both emperors kept their empire in control with rules and laws for their people, which is undoubtedly
a great success. Augustus mercilessly crushed anybody who opposed him as Qin Shi Huangdi did but
Augustus had punishments equivalent to those of the crime committed to where Qin Shi Huangdi
outright exaggerated on punishments for all his people. Due to Augustus doing what was best for his
people, he maintained Rome together and stable creating a period known as Pax Romana due to
unprecedented peace and economic prosperity throughout the Empire (Ancient Rome, ushistory.org).
After his death his dynasty began with the Five Good Emperors who ruled after him with prosperity.
On the contrary, after [Qin Shi Huangdi] died in 210 B.C.E., the dynasty descended into factional
rivalry, and four years later it was overthrown (Duiker and Spielvogel 98;

The Major Development Of The Persian Empire
The Persian Empire originated as a result of the great king known as Cyrus who united the
Mediterranean and Asia Minor into one United Kingdom. Many of Cyrus qualities as a leader led to
the Persians unspoken success in expanding their civilization into the largest and most powerful
empire the world had ever seen. His campaign inspired the Persians to develop their nation by making
expeditions through Media, Babylonia, Lydia, and Egypt. These four provinces had a major affect on
Cyrus vision of creating an unstoppable empire. Therefore this opened a lot of possibilities for Cyrus
and his army as they planned to conquer these regions of Asia Minor. There were many reasons as to
why Cyrus was so successful and the main reason was his ability to be so humble and welcoming to
his enemies. Through his strength in military command, imperial administration, and respect for his
people he forged an Empire that became one of the strongest powers in Asia Minor. Media was one of
the four provinces that were crucial for the major development of the Persian Empire. Cyrus believed
that with the unification of the four major provinces into a satrapy that he could create a strong
standing civilization. Cyrus was known for his behavior and ability to inspire and lead as a strong
military commander as described by Cook when he says, at the age of ten his fearless behavior
brought him to the notice of Astyages, who recognized him as his own grandson (Cook, 25). This
demonstrated that

Mexican American Mistreatment
Although mistreatment caused considerable suffering for Mexican Americans, it also forced them to
overcome internal differences in order to form a secure community, and contributed to the eventual
development of a sense of mexicanidad. Gutiérrez explains how the abuse faced by Mexican
Americans caused the formation of such ties, stating, it is common for such newly created minority
populations to develop a new sense of identity as a natural defense mechanism or as part of a larger
oppositional strategy against the prejudice and discrimination shown them by the majority or
dominant group. The Mexican Americans developed barrios and colonias throughout the Southwest to
act as such defense mechanisms. These were communities of Mexican Americans ... Show more

The formation of segregated barrios and the development of a wealth of community provided services
showed that Mexican Americans were not content to be marginalized by the United States. Instead,
they were embracing an empowering new sense of self determination and referring to themselves as
Mexicanos or as members of a larger, pan Hispanic community of La Raza. At this time La Raza
referenced individuals of the Mexican race , whether they were in Mexico or in the United States, and
was particularly important in the United States, where race was more important than citizenship. In the
late 19th and early 20th century United States, race was determined by purity of blood, and there were
only two races white and black. White meant the individual had pure blood (European blood); black
meant that the individual s blood included indigenous or African influences. Being white meant being
able to exercise one s constitutional rights and being treated as a normal member of society s dominant
group. Being black meant that, regardless of whether he or she was a citizen, the individual would
face discrimination similar to that which I described earlier. When the Spanish conquerors mixed with
the people of Latin America, forming the mestizo, or mixed race, population that now composes most
of the region, they removed themselves from a white classification in the United States. Thus, by
engaging with the concept of La Raza, which connotes a mestizo race and population, Mexican
Americans rejected the binary nature of race in the United States and embraced what made them
different their indigenous mixed blood and the cultural heritage that accompanied it. While the abuse
directed towards Mexican Americans may have

Compare And Contrast Capitalism And Capitalism
The issue I intend to research is a critical evaluation of capitalism and free markets versus socialism
and Keynesian economics. In the twentieth century every human civilization was shaken not just by
the aftermath of a worldwide war, but by a political rift without equal. This last concerns the best
possible part and elements of government a subject of critical significance the welfare of all
humankind. No other worldwide issue has ever created so profound and troublesome rupture in
popular supposition at high cost to human life. The issue is, figuratively, regardless of whether an
individual possesses himself and the rewards for his labor and mind or whether he is claimed by the
collective and is born accordingly obligated. In other words, regardless of whether the collective or
government should take the chief part in the exercises of the group and control with omnipotent
powers the developments and welfare of the individuals, or whether it might stand separated from the
battle, mediating upon its issues, ensuring reasonable equity to all, and safeguarding the tenets of fair
play. That is to say, whether the administration should take upon itself the power and elements of the
old fashioned slave proprietor, or should leave the society free to get themselves straightened out into
entrepreneur and worker, while the collective government goes about as the judge, ready in the
communal interest to exert physical and financial force against the individual. This

Classroom Behavior Management For African American Students
The number of students being diagnosed with or suspected of having an Emotional/Behavioral
disability is rapidly increasing, especially for African American students and in students at younger
ages. The U.S. Department of Education reports that an African American child is one and a half times
more likely to be placed in a classroom for children with emotional disturbances than a White child
(Children s Defense Fund, 2011). I have observed that many of these students are often disengaged
during literacy instruction. As a result, these students present literacy inadequacies in addition to
behavioral challenges. Incorporating culturally responsive pedagogy and interventions across all
content areas increases a student s ability to comprehend texts. In addition to implementing research
based academic instruction, cultural instructional modifications, adequate teacher preparation for
teaching EBD students, engaging classroom behavior management for teachers of students with
Emotional/Behavioral disability, contribute to the literacy growth of EBD students.
An Emotional/Behavioral Disability is defined by:
(1) the student exhibits social, emotional or behavioral functioning that so departs from generally
accepted, age appropriate ethnic or cultural norms that it adversely affects a child s academic progress,
social relationships, personal adjustment, classroom adjustment, self care or vocational skills; (2) the
behaviors are severe, chronic, and frequent, occur at school and at

Comparing The Culture Of Cajun And Creole
Having considered the other regions I have chosen to do my research on Cajun/Creole, simply because
I wanted to know more about their culture. First and foremost Cajun and Creole food are both
primitive to Louisiana and are found in eating places throughout New Orleans, although you may find
Cajun and Creole throughout Louisiana their style of cooking is very different, creole in contrast to
Cajun cooking is like night and day. The word creole derives from criollo, a word American born
Spanish and Portuguese individuals of the day used to characterize themselves. The word Cajun arise
from French Les Acadiens. The people well known as Les Acadiens were for the most part from the
Arcadia region of Eastern Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Northern Main. Cajun cuisine
arrived at Louisianna during the second half of the 18th century, ultimately after the British drove the
French settlers out of the Arcadia region of Canada. Therefore a vast portion of the inhabitants settled
in Southwest Louisiana. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

to mix, there is still an extensive specific difference. For example, creole cuisine uses tomatoes and
authentic Cajun cuisine does not, this is one way you can tell the difference between a Cajun vs Creole
gumbo or jambalaya. The Arcadians were strikingly ingenious inhabitants who took absolute benefit

Ethics As Explained By Robert J. Sternberg
From time to time an individual may deliberate back and forth internally, questioning what the right
behavior is when faced with a particular situation in which a decision has to be made. Some situations
are a little bit more difficult than whether or not to get up in the morning with the alarm clock or to
adhere to one s workout schedule. Some may also have a greater impact not only on the individual
themselves, but also others than simply sleeping in or putting exercise on hold for another day. These
difficult situations call for more of a drastic measure in which, ethical reasoning comes into play.
Ethics as explained by Robert J. Sternberg, Ethics is a set of principles for what constitutes right and
wrong behavior. (Sternberg, 2017, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A couple of points up for consideration are the classmates work lessening the chances of one getting
good grades when it is desperately needed and the possibility of removal from the educational facility
for violating the regulations (Van Camp, 2014).
Immediate thoughts are, one needs to personally complete the class work without violating any
regulations set forth by the educational establishment. This would include both not paying an
individual to do the work, which can be viewed as passing work off as one s own and a form of
anonymous communication to the faculty about the classmates. To begin with, it is of the belief that
paying an individual to complete ones class work is a form of cheating therefore, a display of
unethical behavior. When utilizing the word cheating, two things come to mind; cheating oneself from
learning and a dishonest portrayal that it is one s own work.
Personally, it is difficult to believe that paying an individual to do class work for another provides an
opportunity for learning the material. Gina Ciliberto also provides additional insight, Aside from
sourcing one s ethics or reputation, I think homework doing services might be a bad idea for an
entirely differently reason. No doubt, writing an essay or completing a reading report is not the
optimal way to spend an afternoon. But, as I pointed out to my friend this morning, college really is

Essay On What Caused The Stock Market Crash
The stock market crash of 1929 was one of the primary causes of the Great Depression, as reported by
many economists. However, the stock market crash also had underlying causes that could have been
prevented. The crash began on October 24th, 1929 and was considered the most devastating stock
market crash in history, in which over 15 million Americans were unemployed. The causes to blame
for the stock market crash from most to least are as follows: The banks that gave loans, the average
American, wealthy people and businessmen, the Federal Reserve Board, and the government.
If the banks did not lend money to ordinary people, then debt would not even exist and the stock
market would not have crashed. Once the stock market crashed, the banks ... Show more content on

Wall Street was in fact dominated by wealthy businessmen, many of which who made millions by
solely playing the market. Indeed, people began believing that they would be able to do the same; to
press a button and the stock would go up ten points. These stocks were also manipulated by the
wealthy when they pooled their money into a secret agreement to buy a stock, inflate its price, and sell
it to an unsuspecting public. Again, even though wealthy businessmen did everything in their power to
attract the public, it was the individual s fault for making a poor decision. The second least to blame
for the stock market crash is the Federal Reserve Board. The Board themselves distrusted the boom, as
they saw speculation as risky and dangerous. In fact, the Board had the entire power to ask for
government regulation or control of the market, but they refused to do so because the market was
already too dependent on borrowing money. Without the margin, the market would collapse, and
therefore, there was no point of the Board asking for government regulation since the economy was
ultimately controlled by Americans

San Joaquin County Pesticides
Pesticides: Application Good OR Bad?
San Joaquin County is known for its heavy usage of pesticides and is one of the 15 counties in
California that has been labeled for using heavy amounts of these chemicals. Pesticides are a chemical
based spray that is used upon crops of fields to prevent damage to the crops being grown by farmers.
Pesticides have been able to form a multibillion dollar industry alongside the farming industry. While
some pesticides have been deemed as unsafe for the county, state population; they are used in spraying
over our crops and can lead to a health and safety risk for the population. Anything that is consumed
by an organism inherits some of the properties of what it has consumed. Pesticides are beneficial
chemicals to farmers as they provide profits for them and less work, effort, and time to deal with the
problem affecting their crops. This process can be harmful to humans as they are consuming products
which were sprayed by these harmful chemicals and therefore ingesting part of those chemicals.

Chisolm: The electorate of Chisholm is named after Caroline Chisholm (1800 1877). She was a noted
social worker and advocate for immigration of New South Wales. She helped newly immigrated
women in New South Wales to find shelter, dispersed the unemployed to the country so that they

The current sitting member for Chisholm is Anna Burke. She is a member of the Australian Labor

Embrace By The Needle By Gabor Mate
The Dark Side of the Brain
The reason people are able to communicate, connect, feel, and understand the world around them is
because of their highly intelligent minds. People often take this gift for granted, and do not fully
comprehend how capable their minds are of absorbing and processing information. Two authors with
two very different circumstances for their essays are able to support their arguments through
psychology and ongoing brain research. In Embrace by the Needle (2001), Gabor Mate explores the
psychological reason behind why addictions can develop in drug users. While in Is Google Making Us
Stupid? (2008) Nicholas Carr, explores the ongoing research on how digital media affect people s
cognitive development, in order ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the authors use two different methods of portraying their argument. Mate s argument is
strong and compelling with his research evidence. Using an ethos approach, he persuades the reader
that he can be trusted and that his evidence is compelling. He suggests that he is an expert in the field
of research and treatment of addictions. He develops the majority of his argument by explaining his
research findings on the psychological effects of drug abuse. He uses anecdotes from his patients at
the harm reducing, non profit Portland faculty to provide further proof that his research findings are
factual. He leaves the reader with a conclusive argument that is hard to argue with. In contrast, Carr
uses a logos approach to portray his argument, he develops the majority of his argument through
anecdotes instead of research facts. His argument is based on the conclusion he makes from his set of
facts and statistics. He shares his own personal anecdote and other people s anecdote of how they are
finding it hard now to focus on reading a book. He then uses the results from a published study of
online research habits to support his anecdote evidence. By using the logos approach, he forms an
argument that is logical and appeals to the reader intellect. However, since the research on how digital
media affect people cognitive development is still ongoing, there is still not enough concrete evidence.

Social Provisions Of Real And Imaginary Relationships
Everyone needs a friend, and when some children do not have friends it is hard for them to socially
mature. When imaginary companions are created, it helps develop children s social interactions.
Children learn how to interact with others and realize how others could feel emotionally in certain
situations. There is a misconceptualization that children with imaginary companions are lonely and do
not do well in social situations. Research has showed that children with imaginary companions score
higher on IQ tests and do better in social situations. Literature shows that imaginary companions are
found everywhere. Adults even have imaginary conversations. Having an imaginary companion is not
a crime and should be encouraged among young children.
Are Imaginary Relationships Based on Real Ones?
In the article, Social Provisions of Real and Imaginary Relationships in Early Childhood Gleason
states that some psychologist believe that imaginary companions are based on real relationships
children have, and that children tend to be more emotionally invested in their imaginary companions
compared to friends or family members. Children imagine conflicts usually between themselves and
their imaginary companions and the way the child reacts to such difficulties might be reflective of how
she or he understands the workings of real relationships (Gleason, 980). Usually, specific relationships
have certain citeria that has to be met in order for it to to be considered a real relationship.

Consequently, to reviewing the Vonage s statement of cash flows for the years, 2008, 2007, and 2006

to its cash flows from operating activities? Secondly, does Vonage appear to be improving its position
in the telecommunications business? Third, how did Vonage pay off over $250 million in debt in
2008? Furthermore, where did they obtain the funds to repay the debt? Lastly, does Vonage cash

from various corporations. Even though many organizations report net losses on their earning
statements, they also report positive cash flows from operating activities. Vonage is a real example of
how a company can be both positive and adverse in the statement of cash flows. To answer the first
question, how does Vonage s net income for each year compare to its cash flows from operating
activities. One must first analysis the statements of cash flow in detail. An individual first observes the

The Pathophysiology Of Congestive Heart Failure
The Circulatory system is responsible for the transport and delivery of essential nutrients and
molecules required for proper cellular function including oxygen, proteins, and much more
(Silverthorn, 2013). The circulatory system also carries waste products to be excreted by the body by
other systems such as the urinary and respiratory system (Silverthorn, 2013). The main organ in the
circulatory system is the heart which will be concentrated on within this paper in order to understand
how the normal physiology of the heart relates to the pathophysiology of congestive heart failure,

The heart is able to do this thanks to the specialized cardiac muscle it contains. The contraction of the
heart displays excitatory contraction coupling (EC coupling) similar to skeletal muscles except the
action potential in the heart originates spontaneously at the peace maker of the heart (Silverthorn,
2013). Contraction happens when a rapid depolarization occurs due to the influx and opening of
sodium voltage gated channels to raise the membrane potential toward the threshold value causing a
firing of action potential. The conduction and cardiac cycle starts at a resting distol state for both
ventricles and atriums and is initiated with the depolarization at the SA node (Silverthorn, 2013). This
causes an action potential which moves rapidly towards the AV node where the signal gets slowed
down (Silverthorn, 2013).When the signal reaches this point it causes a contraction/systole stage of
the right and left atriums. This causes blood to be pumped into the ventricles through the AV valves
(Silverthorn, 2013). The action potential then travels to the ventricles down the bundle branches out
towards the Purkinje fibers (Silverthorn, 2013). In terms of the cardiac cycle an isovolumetric
contraction occurs during the pause of the signal at the AV node allowing the AV valves to close,
followed by ventricular systole where the ventricles expel blood into circulation (Silverthorn, 2013).
The final stage in the cardiac cycle occurs between stimulations of action potential when the ventricles
and atriums are in diastole and the chambers fill with blood once again (Silverthorn,

popularity in the United States in a time known as the Roaring Twenties, was a dramatic turning point

Not all whom listened to the music, will agree. The statement whereas jazz was a moral disaster to
young girls is inaccurate because teenagers will choose to do whatever they want if it is morally
wrong as a result of growing up and experiencing life. Regardless of what kind of music is playing,
young teens will go as they please. As for the origins issue, people need to stop believing everything
they hear. That issue was developed by a music critic of the New York Herald Tribune. How can
everyone be so sure what that critic is saying is entirely true? III. Conclusion d. Both arguments of this
catastrophic impact that jazz has had on all American people are very strong. Unfortunately, one side
being stronger than the other. Opponents that opposed this argument had some valid points. Their
strongest being a moral disaster on young women. When they say young girls and guys have been

be pulling all types of different people together, that including of boys and girls. A girl and a boy find
that they both have the same interest in jazz music, so they might get to know each other and so on.

the American people? This time period being the Great Depression, people struggle

Robots are Over-taking Us
Robots are over taking us. Or are being taken over by robots? There have been many robots developed
to make life easier. Robotics has had some positive effects in the performance of certain jobs. It can
help us complete difficult jobs that use materials that are not safe for humans to handle such as
radioactive materials. A single robot can do heavy tasks that would require 10 people to complete.
However, this savings in time and money for companies could result in loss of hours and wages for
employees. Robotics is affecting many parts of our lives right now, from jobs, to house chores to
medicine and a lot more. But which is really more effective and efficient? Humans or robots? Yet, we
continue to develop robots to help us. Is a future ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Workers are moved to supervisory roles where they no longer have to perform dangerous tasks in
hazardous settings. With the improved worker safety, there has been an increase in financial savings
since there are fewer healthcare and insurance claims by employers. Robot movements are always

Disadvantages of Robots
The use of robots may also present many disadvantages, such as cost. For example, the iRobots that
could clean a pool costs around $1,300 ( Mirra ). Another concern is that robots might be taking away
our jobs (Tobe). Robots used to perform industrial jobs can help save labor hours and money (Tobe). It
is a fact that robots complete jobs with higher quality. Jobs such as gluing, spraying paint, and
trimming are performed faster, consistently and with better quality by robots (Sands, D.). This could
have a negative effect on humans because it will take away many jobs, resulting in income loss.
In addition, the initial investment to integrate robotics into businesses is substantial, especially when
business owners are limiting their purchases to new robotic equipment (Tobe). He said that the cost of
robotic automation and regular maintenance needs could potentially have a financial toll on the
company. Employees will require training programs and learn how to interact with the new robotic
equipment. This normally takes time and financial outlay. Robots will be

Walter B. Miller s Focal Concern Theory
Focal concerns is a theory focuses on the worries of delinquent behaviors. It was presented by Walter
B. Miller in 1958. It is a pure cultural theory of gang delinquency specialized for the lower class. As
Miller explained in a short article that he called Lower Class Culture as a Generating Milieu of Gang
Delinquency, the lower class contributed to a distinct criminogenic culture. (Greene, Gabbidon Miller,
2013) This means that the lower class produces criminal acts. He also explained that his explanation
of delinquency is based on those who live in unhappy inner cities where females are mostly the head
of their households, and they operate according focal concerns due to the fact that they do not have
middle class values, good discipline, and role models. Some focal concerns are defined as trouble,
toughness, smartness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are children living in societies that are filled with gangs and peer pressure. When I was growing
up, my mother was a single parent; she was also the head of the house, respectfully. She had a well
paying job, but we stayed in a place that I would consider low class. I witnessed kids smoking,
stealing, and being disrespectful to adults, even their own parents. Since my mother pretty much
raised me and taught me not to give in to things that may cause problems in the future, I really had
nothing to worry about. It is not so much as where I lived, it was how I lived, and I lived great, giving
the circumstances. Sadly, not all children are as fortunate as I was. The types of programs for this
theory should not be voluntary; it should be mandatory. There are a lot of single mothers living in
inner cities with children who are not in tune with their reality and are hanging around the wrong
people just so they can be noticed. It is not fair to any of them. There should be a programs for the

Z For Zachariah Character Analysis
One who may be viewed as evil is someone who enjoys hurting others and may not think about the
consequences their actions towards someone or something may do to harm or affect the people around
them. Through the book Z for Zachariah written by Robert O Brien one of the two main characters Mr
Loomis some may consider as evil. The other main character is young female called Ann who lives on
her own until Mr Loomis entered the valley. Through the book, Mr Loomis has proven to be evil
firstly because he had attempted to shoot Ann while she was doing him a favour because he had driven

Because Mr Loomis was continuing to get his energy back from being so sick from the toxic lake out
of kindness Ann continued to come back to the house and look after the garden and animals as Mr
Loomis was unable to. Each day Ann would collect the eggs, milk and many vegetables, she would
always give half to Mr Loomis and keep half for herself. On Top of this kind action after all the hard
work of working in the garden, she would walk up to the abandoned store and get anything she
believed Mr Loomis would need for cooking as he now had to cook his own meals. She would never
disturb Mr Loomis so she would always place all her findings from the garden and the store on the
front doorstep. Not only was this hard work for Ann but it also was stressful as she always had the
feeling like Mr Loomis was watching her through the kitchen window as she worked. One day on her
way to work in the garden Mr Loomis had shot her just as she was crossing to come and do him a
favour, he only had hit her leg not killing her but did cause an enormous amount of pain. Both the
reader and Ann was confused about why he had only shot her leg, not knowing his level of skill with a
gun it could ve been by accident and was meaning to kill her, an alternative was that he was only
attempting to injure her in that he had succeeded. This is an example of evilness because he was

My Musical Theatre
Throughout my entire life I have never had any real interest in musical theatre. One time when I was
in about 5th grade, my grandfather took me, my brother and my cousin to a showing of the
Nutcracker. Let me tell you, I tried my hardest, I really tried, but I couldn t stay awake for the entire
performance. This experience I had put a bad taste in my mouth as for the next several years, I never
attended another musical theatre event.
One day in the spring, I was going through Golden Bear Advising, and I saw that Berkeley
recommended that everyone should listen to the Hamilton soundtrack. I didn t know much about the
musical other than that a couple of my friends in my high school s theatre company listened to it. My
first thought was that it must be better than the Nutcracker, so I decided I d give it a chance. About 15
seconds into Alexander Hamilton I remember saying out loud, hmm wow, this bumps! My first time
listening to the soundtrack, I didn t listen to it all the way through, but I was definitely hooked I
wanted to keep listening. Over the summer, whenever I d go on long car rides, I d try to listen to the
soundtrack. To be honest, before I listened to the soundtrack, I didn t think that I would like it, simply
because I wasn t a fan of musical theatre. However, I was blown away and thoroughly the music, the
way in which it was presented and the story that was told.
What sticks out to me about the soundtrack is that it kept my attention because at the end

Dropout Age Should Be Abolished Essay
Many states throughout the country are raising the required dropout age of high school students to 18.
Elevating the mandatory age of pre graduates to 18 has been proven to encourage kids to stay in
school and lead to an auspicious future.
To lead off, students should be required to stay in school until they are 18 to set a moral imperative ,
as New Hampshire Deputy Commissioner of Education, Paul Leather states. The standard will create a
moral obligation that will boost the chance of many kids sticking through high school to go on to earn
their diploma. Some people claim that raising the minimum age is not a solution, but according to an
article in National Education Weekly, by Mia Lewis, Raising the age for exiting pre graduation may
not stop all dropouts, but it has a positive effect. The requirement will often significantly lower
dropout rates. If this were paired with relevant schooling, as Kentucky uses, it could be even more

The decision to give up on earning a high school diploma will often have a severe impact on a student
s future. Educational advocate Missy Remiss states, Those without a highschool diploma are likely to
have lower earnings, higher unemployment, lower job satisfaction they even have a higher likelihood
of ending up in jail or on public assistance. The effects of this decision will often cause problems for
the rest of the students lives. States need to do all they can to prevent this from occurring. Raising the
dropout age of students would prevent more people from living below the poverty line and cost less
for states with fewer people on public assistance. According to a data analysis from 2009 by the U.S
Department of Education, a high school dropout earns about $7,840 less than they would with a
diploma. Staying in school for just a little longer could majorly diminish this

The Law Of The Corn Laws
Another way in which a comparison of the two thinkers can be given with respect to the Corn Laws is
through their positioning on the issue of Say s Law. To introduce this concept, Jean Baptiste Say
developed the Law of Markets, which is commonly referred to as Say s Law, in his A Treatise on
Political Economy. He maintains that in order to consume, one must provide supplies for another s
demand in order to earn a unit of account to consume goods, meaning a consumer must also be a
producer (Say, I.XV.133). Therefore, the economy is a constant cycle of production, proving that
supply creates its own demand. Because of this implication, Say s Law can be viewed in relation to
the Corn Laws as the law implies both that an economy will equilibrate without a need for government
intervention and that free trade is non distortionary. Knowing this, it becomes evident that the law was
supported by Ricardo, albeit implicitly, and explicitly rejected by Malthus. This section will therefore
more indepthly move through the two thinker s opinions on the law to prove their stance on the greater
issue of the Corn Laws.
Malthus disagrees with Say s Law, as it oversimplifies the nuance of the economy through its failure
to account for the insufficiency of demand coupled with overproduction. The main argument about the
insufficiency of demand is brought about by the expenditure of the different social classes. The
insufficiency of demand he notes makes up his glut theory. For Malthus,

Prussia, Austria, and the Russian Empire. According to Chopin biographer Arthur Hedley, Chopin

Families In Romeo And Juliet And All The Light We Cannot See
A family is the single most influential factor in the life of an individual. Being in a family brings with
it support, relationships, connections, and love that is rarely found anywhere else in a person s life.
However, families are not all the same. Each individual family structure is unique when compared to
the next. When looked at from a general perspective there are two main groups of which families fall
into. There are families whose relationships are derived from and are strengthened by social
obligation. These families are connected biologically, emotionally, or through a specific event and are
forced to grow based on the ethics of proper family structure and societal opinions. While these
families are present in books such as Romeo and Juliet and All the Light we Cannot See, there are also
families whose relationships derive from contingency. Contingency based families are strengthened by
connections that are built over time and are dependent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This type of family was present in the 1953 classic, Peter Pan. As part of the storyline the Lost Boys
of Neverland had established a family based on the contingency that they were orphaned. They had no

The First Law Of Thermodynamics
Thermodynamics is the study of heat and energy transfer, more specifically how heat transfer relates
to energy changes within a system. The laws of thermodynamics were developed to predict and
outline behaviors of thermodynamic processes (5). The First Law of Thermodynamics states that the
change in a system s internal energy is equal to the difference between heat added to the system from
its surroundings and work done by the system on its surroundings (5). The idea behind this is
conservation of energy, meaning all energy in and out of a system must be accounted for. If energy is
added to a system in the form of heat, it must be used. If heat is added to a system, the system either
performs work (an exothermic process) or changes internal energy (an endothermic process) (4).
Enthalpy, a thermodynamic potential, is the measure of the energy within this system. The change in
enthalpy, H, must be measured in order to find out how energy is transferred throughout a system. If H
has a positive value, the system is endothermic and it will keep the added heat, increasing its internal
energy. If H has a negative value, it means the system lost heat or did work when energy was put into
the system, so the system is exothermic (3). Gibbs Free Energy, G, is the maximum amount of energy
or enthalpy available to do work. The decrease in Gibbs Free Energy is equivalent to the work done by
a system to its surroundings, excluding pressure work (5). A negative G is required for a

The period before the great depression, the 1920s, was known as the Roaring Twenties or the Jazz age.
This Era was marked by artistic movement such as the creation of Jazz music and a rich supply of
American writing. During this time the federal government had been providing some aid to the states
but leaving the bulk of the power to the states, which is known as a dual federalism. It also marked the

There are so many different restaurants serving so many different types of food. There are Chinese
restaurants, Japanese restaurants, Classic American restaurants, Italian restaurants, it makes it difficult

The Cheesecake factory has some key strengths that keeps it running at a high level. The Cheesecake
Factory has a low employee turnover rate. That means that once they hire somebody the person
usually keeps the job for a long time. Of course you have situations and instances where some
employees have to be let go for whatever reason, but when you check your numbers as to how many
had to go verses how many are still working in good standings, you have to tip your hat to your
employment staff. Another strength of the Cheesecake Factory is that they have such a large variety of
dishes and desserts. Variety is key when in the restaurant business because many times there are so
many other restaurant that are serving the same style, if not the same exact dishes as you. The
Cheesecake factory have hundreds of different cheesecakes to choose from. You will not find another
restaurant with that much variety in their desserts. Their main courses and appetizers follow suit with
amazingly large selection. One more advantage of the Cheesecake Factory is its ability to appeal to

Human s Closest Living Representation
Chimpanzees
1) Introduction:
Chimpanzees are considered as human s closest living representation, possessing numerous
characteristics and similarities of our genetics. Scientifically named Pan Troglodytes, they are widely
classified as great apes under the Hominidae family and are one of the species in the genus Pan.
Chimpanzees are only found in one continent in the world, Africa. They are distributed throughout the
central and western regions of Africa, specifically Tanzania and Uganda.
In a physical aspect, chimpanzees are generally much smaller in size. The chimpanzee, which is
approximately four feet high, weighs differently depending on gender. Males usually weigh 90 to 120
pounds, while females weigh between 60 to 110 pounds ( Chimpanzee ). Chimpanzees usually have a
lifespan of roughly 50 to 60 years, depending on whether they are in captivity or the wilderness. Their
body is mostly covered in black hair with the palms, ears, and face ranging from pale pink to black.
Like humans, chimpanzees have flat faces, forward facing eyes, enormous ears, and relatively small
nostrils. These features have significant implications on a chimp s senses (Jane Goodall Institute).
They have a short neck that connects to a bulging jaw, which is accompanied by large canines. These
colossal canines help with their diet that mostly consists of nuts, leaves, meat, plants, and fruits. The

Characterization And Imagery In A White Heron By Sarah...
In the excerpt from her novel, A White Heron, Sarah Orne Jewett utilizes characterization and imagery
to dramatize her young heroine s adventure, shifting the tone from ambivalent to triumphant. Aided by
characterization and imagery, the story s initial tone is ambivalent because of the mixed emotions
Sylvia feels while climbing. Sylvia is first described as daring, She had always believed that whoever
climbed to the top of it could see the ocean... Sylvia began with the utmost bravery to mount to the top
of it . As the story develops, Sylvia s courage remains intact when climbing becomes strenuous, The
way was harder than she thought... the sharp dry twigs held her and scratched her like angry talons .
The author s use of characterization shows the reader how courageous Sylvia is. The ambivalent tone
is created through the rising tension that is described throughout Sylvia s characterization. While ...

Additionally, the author uses imagery to develop the tone. The narrator described the tree itself: There
was the huge tree asleep yet in the paling moonlight... . Later, the narrator explains, The tree seemed
to lengthen itself as she went up and to reach farther and farther upward . Prior to climbing, there is no
reason to believe that the act of climbing could become difficult based on the imagery provided. In
fact, the tree s beautiful appearance almost begs Sylvia to climb it in the paling moonlight . While
climbing, however, the ambivalent tone progresses as the tree seems to stretch farther and farther most
likely causing some drawbacks in Sylvia s

Redwood Trees
Laws are implemented for the betterment of the community. However, a law was put back in play
when eight redwood trees were planted in the backyard of Ms. Carolynn Bissett and Mr. Richard
Treanor overshadowing solar panels of their neighbor, Mr. Mark Vargas, who installed the panels on
year 2001. This generated a conflict between the two neighbors. Resulting to Mr. Mark Vargas filing a
dispute against Ms. Carolynn Bissett and Mr Richard Treanor. The California Solar Shade Act of 1978
was used against the couple. The law provides protection to solar panel system owners from shading
trees and shrubs on their property. The law also prevents a property owner from allowing trees or
shrubs to shade an existing solar panel installed on a neighboring ... Show more content on

Vargas used the law to get rid of the trees that he did not like and to keep his solar panels for his own
benefit. To which the law was not used for the betterment of the whole community but to only make
one person happy. In a way that he intently installed the power panels without consulting his neighbor
about it and knowing that the trees will cast a shadow over it. In addition, his willingness to cut more
trees the next year is a sign that he just wanted to get rid of all the trees for good. How can we allow a
law to cut down trees that is much beneficial for everyone than a solar panel? People always say that
cutting trees is not good for our environment, for it somehow controls temperature of our
surroundings, clean the polluted air and most of all prevents climate change. In the end, they know
that the court only favored Vargas because of the law, but without it Mr. Treanor would win the fight
against Mr.

Bible Passage Isaiah 53, 1-13
This week s Bible Passage Isaiah 53, 1 12, is about a prophecy that was written approximately 700 to
800 years before Jesus even came to this earth. The scripture speaks of God s servant, which is Jesus
who would be just a plain and ordinary servant with no dignity or beauty to make us desire him or
draw us to him. He was despised, rejected and he faced much pain and suffering. No one would even
look at Jesus in the face; he was ignored and was treated like he was nothing. He was a man of great
sorrows. Jesus would receive the wounds and suffering that should have been ours, he endured the
punishment, so that people can have peace. Isaiah described the suffering servant in detail such as, He
is despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. Surely he has borne our
griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God and ... Show more

The ancient Christian rejected Christ because they thought he was just a man who was trying to be a
God, so they cursed Jesus. Modern Christian s today accepts Christ as our Savior but still wants to live
a watered down Christian life by being only lukewarm such as, living in sin before marriage, attending
church when it is convenience and going out to the bars. Are we truly living the Christian life that God
intended? Or are we still rejecting Jesus Christ?
Also, both the modern and ancient Christian has problems totally understanding the true suffering that
Christ went through for us. The ancient Christian was very uncompassionate they cursed him, ignored
him and treated him like a nothing. His own peers even had him crucified to death. However, is today
s Christian any better? We still continue to choose to ignore him by not attending church, continuing
to carrying on with sinful, wicked ways, and blasphemy by using our Lord God s name in vain. The
people as a whole still have not learned from past

Rank Structure Essay
The Importance of Rank Structure in the Marine Corps Rank structure is important to the Marine
Corps because it form one of the fundamental backbones of military service. Many believe that with
rank structure the Marine Corps or any other military organization could not function. This is has been
proven fact over the centuries by the countless of mob armies that has arisen in history of the fall apart
because they had no clear leadership. One of the ways that rank structure is important is that it is like a
link of chains. This chain forms a link between the highest officer to the lowest of the enlisted. This
chain allows for the anywhere in the chain of command for an order to be issued and it will go down
the chain to the level ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is also one of the most important reasons for the rank structure to have been created is that any
time a commander can find out the condition of his troops. And this of course is something that every
commander especially if the commander is going in to a wartime environment would like to know
what strength he is has. Rank structure is vital to the Marine Corps or any military organization
because rank structure is the basis of where all discipline in the ranks comes from. Without a rank
structure know one would know who is in charge of who and everyone would start to trying to take
charge in their own way cause confusion and disorder through the ranks. Also without rank structure,
when rules or orders are broken in a military organization it is up to the superior of that person to
discipline that person, no one would know who was supposed to merit the discipline or who is
supposed to carry out the discipline thus cause more chaos and anarchy. Therefore in conclusion we
see that without rank structure, military organization such as the Marine Corps could not function.
Without rank structure the Marine Corps would be in disorder and disarray, because it would have no
idea who was in charge and who was suppose to be the foot soldiers. Therefore maintaining proper
rank structure is the responsibility of the highest ranking officer to the lowest ranking private in boot

Essay On The Spanish Armada
During the Middle Ages, European countries rival each other with their wealth and military prowess.
This period dawn the age of European expansion led by England, France, Portugal, and Spain. The
Spanish armada, known for its expertise when it comes to the sea, have eventually reached the rich
shores of the Philippines. They bring with them two purpose in invading this land. First was their
devotion to spread the Catholic faith. Secondly, the drive to increase the wealth of Spain and to
challenge the position of other leading European countries. (Wanlass, 1952)
The Spain s source of power is its Navy, thus they used this to colonized smaller countries and
continue its competition with other European colonizers(Wanlass, 1952). The strong desire ... Show

The Filipino Middle class started to emerge. These class which were also called The Ilustrados studied
abroad, primarily in Europe which is the cradle of reformation, in order to learn so that they could
have the capability to liberate themselves from the Spanish colonizers. This also began the expansion
of various European Political thought. The emergence of an educated middle class caused a demand
for the recognition of its capability to lead the nation. This was manifested through the writing of
Rizal, who studied in Spain and other European countries and integrate these learnings to his writings.
These works which contained the abuse and maltreatment of the Spanish served as the eye opener for
his countrymen. Another Filipino who was greatly influence, not only by the works of Rizal but also
the different movements which occurred in Europe was Bonifacio. Influenced by the French
Revolution and the ideas of Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity, Bonifacio used this as tools for rebellion.
In accordance to the event which led to the revolution, if the state no longer do its duty to the people,
the latter have the rights to depose the former (Social Contract Theory) . Since the government led by
Spanish authorities do not function for the benefit of the Filipino people, Bonifacio and the
revolutionaries deemed it proper to overthrow the government and establish the same which will

Easter Island
Easter Island I was born today. My bones quarried at Rano Raraku near the northeast end of my
homeland, Easter Island. My makers were small, with deep tawny skin that gleamed with moisture
under the sun as they carved the gentle curves of my body. As I lay among the rock, an unmoving
piece of stone that stretched across the land to the creatures that constructed me, I observed the
thriving life around me. I was surrounded by trees, some whose unbranched bodies shot into the
vibrant sky, their silky, lively leaves dancing in the warm wind that swept over me. Down at my laying
level, grew a variety of small, round, leafy, thin, and sweet smelling plants, sprouting from the land
like gifts sent from the fertile soil. From the moment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Porpoises. Each day, just as the sun began to rise, hundreds of humans would rush out onto the beach,
dragging their dead tree boats into the choppy water, heading to sea to kill the peaceful porpoises,
which happily swam around the island. And each night, I would watch these boats, like a heard of
hungry savages, charge towards the shore with their slaughtered fish thrown in a heap, ready to be
feasted on by the islanders. I was no longer the only one of my kind. Hundreds of others lined the
shore. Some were taller, others much smaller, each with differently carved facial features, some even
decorated with red crowns. I painfully watched as my brothers and sisters were created. First they
were born from the quarry, and carved by hundreds of humans with their stone chisels. Next, once the
needed amount of Chilean wine palms trees were killed and enough hauhau trees to make a long rope
were stripped apart, the statue was ready to be transported to the coast, where I stood. I noticed as the
land around me became bare, naked, that the sound of leaves rustling, and dancing in the wind became
more and more faint as the trees were cut down, one by one, and

Therapy Vs. Punishment In Truman Capote s In Cold Blood
Karl Menninger opposes punishment and thinks therapy is a better method. I will argue against
therapy over punishment on the basis of utilitarian and retributive arguments provided by several
theorists. As well as touching on the novel In Cold Blood by Truman Capote in which two men
murder a family and are sentenced to death row and Clockwork Orange, a movie that deals with the
use of therapy on a criminal rather than punishment/sending him to jail. Menninger replaced the idea
of punishment for that of penalty / or therapy. Menninger states that punishment is more so used for
the deliberate inflicting of pain, usually motivated by vengeance which should not be societies basis
for reprimanding criminals. He states that we, the designated representatives of the society which has
failed to integrate this man, [...]should take over. It is our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He explains how this principle guides humanity by asking how would punishment increase the
happiness of society? Some utilitarians may agree, in part, with Menninger as they view that a system
of punishment, offers no incentive for the victim to involve himself in the criminal justice process
other than to satisfy his feelings of duty or revenge [..] (Barnett p 285). He discusses how even
punishment which seeks to change an offender s moral outlook or scare him, does nothing to provide
them with skills needed to survive in the real world. Barnett offers up a new paradigm of restitution; in
the old paradigm two people are seen at the same level, when a criminal commits an act against
someone the victim is brought down and then by imprisoning the criminal they are also brought down;
whereas in restitution both the victim and the criminal would be brought back

  • 2. Compare And Contrast Augustus And Shi Huangdi Caesar Augustus and Qin Shi Huangdi During the classical civilizations there were many types of rulers and governments, two of these include Augustus from the Roman Empire and Qin Shi Huangdi from the Qin Dynasty in China. Both of these emperors were from classical civilizations but their own different civilization, on in Rome and the other in China. My goal in this paper is to compare and contrast these two rulers from different civilizations by looking at their characteristics, such as how they came to power, how they ruled, their successes and failures as well as their legacy. First and foremost, both Augustus, whose original name was Octavian, and Qin Shi Huangdi came to power through military power. While they both used military power ... Augustus mercilessly crushed anybody who opposed him as Qin Shi Huangdi did but Augustus had punishments equivalent to those of the crime committed to where Qin Shi Huangdi outright exaggerated on punishments for all his people. Due to Augustus doing what was best for his people, he maintained Rome together and stable creating a period known as Pax Romana due to unprecedented peace and economic prosperity throughout the Empire (Ancient Rome, ushistory.org). After his death his dynasty began with the Five Good Emperors who ruled after him with prosperity. On the contrary, after [Qin Shi Huangdi] died in 210 B.C.E., the dynasty descended into factional rivalry, and four years later it was overthrown (Duiker and Spielvogel 98; ... • 3. The Major Development Of The Persian Empire The Persian Empire originated as a result of the great king known as Cyrus who united the Mediterranean and Asia Minor into one United Kingdom. Many of Cyrus qualities as a leader led to the Persians unspoken success in expanding their civilization into the largest and most powerful empire the world had ever seen. His campaign inspired the Persians to develop their nation by making expeditions through Media, Babylonia, Lydia, and Egypt. These four provinces had a major affect on Cyrus vision of creating an unstoppable empire. Therefore this opened a lot of possibilities for Cyrus and his army as they planned to conquer these regions of Asia Minor. There were many reasons as to why Cyrus was so successful and the main reason was his ability to be so humble and welcoming to his enemies. Through his strength in military command, imperial administration, and respect for his people he forged an Empire that became one of the strongest powers in Asia Minor. Media was one of the four provinces that were crucial for the major development of the Persian Empire. Cyrus believed that with the unification of the four major provinces into a satrapy that he could create a strong standing civilization. Cyrus was known for his behavior and ability to inspire and lead as a strong military commander as described by Cook when he says, at the age of ten his fearless behavior brought him to the notice of Astyages, who recognized him as his own grandson (Cook, 25). Mexican American Mistreatment Although mistreatment caused considerable suffering for Mexican Americans, it also forced them to overcome internal differences in order to form a secure community, and contributed to the eventual development of a sense of mexicanidad. Gutiérrez explains how the abuse faced by Mexican Americans caused the formation of such ties, stating, it is common for such newly created minority populations to develop a new sense of identity as a natural defense mechanism or as part of a larger oppositional strategy against the prejudice and discrimination shown them by the majority or dominant group. The Mexican Americans developed barrios and colonias throughout the Southwest to act as such defense mechanisms. These were communities of Mexican Americans ... The formation of segregated barrios and the development of a wealth of community provided services showed that Mexican Americans were not content to be marginalized by the United States. Instead, they were embracing an empowering new sense of self determination and referring to themselves as Mexicanos or as members of a larger, pan Hispanic community of La Raza. At this time La Raza referenced individuals of the Mexican race , whether they were in Mexico or in the United States, and was particularly important in the United States, where race was more important than citizenship. In the late 19th and early 20th century United States, race was determined by purity of blood, and there were only two races white and black. White meant the individual had pure blood (European blood); black meant that the individual s blood included indigenous or African influences. Being white meant being able to exercise one s constitutional rights and being treated as a normal member of society s dominant group. Being black meant that, regardless of whether he or she was a citizen, the individual would face discrimination similar to that which I described earlier. When the Spanish conquerors mixed with the people of Latin America, forming the mestizo, or mixed race, population that now composes most of the region, they removed themselves from a white classification in the United States. Thus, by engaging with the concept of La Raza, which connotes a mestizo race and population, Mexican Americans rejected the binary nature of race in the United States and embraced what made them different their indigenous mixed blood and the cultural heritage that accompanied it. In the twentieth century every human civilization was shaken not just by the aftermath of a worldwide war, but by a political rift without equal. This last concerns the best possible part and elements of government a subject of critical significance the welfare of all humankind. No other worldwide issue has ever created so profound and troublesome rupture in popular supposition at high cost to human life. The issue is, figuratively, regardless of whether an individual possesses himself and the rewards for his labor and mind or whether he is claimed by the collective and is born accordingly obligated. In other words, regardless of whether the collective or government should take the chief part in the exercises of the group and control with omnipotent powers the developments and welfare of the individuals, or whether it might stand separated from the battle, mediating upon its issues, ensuring reasonable equity to all, and safeguarding the tenets of fair play. That is to say, whether the administration should take upon itself the power and elements of the old fashioned slave proprietor, or should leave the society free to get themselves straightened out into entrepreneur and worker, while the collective government goes about as the judge, ready in the communal interest to exert physical and financial force against the individual. • 6. Classroom Behavior Management For African American Students The number of students being diagnosed with or suspected of having an Emotional/Behavioral disability is rapidly increasing, especially for African American students and in students at younger ages. The U.S. Department of Education reports that an African American child is one and a half times more likely to be placed in a classroom for children with emotional disturbances than a White child (Children s Defense Fund, 2011). I have observed that many of these students are often disengaged during literacy instruction. As a result, these students present literacy inadequacies in addition to behavioral challenges. Incorporating culturally responsive pedagogy and interventions across all content areas increases a student s ability to comprehend texts. In addition to implementing research based academic instruction, cultural instructional modifications, adequate teacher preparation for teaching EBD students, engaging classroom behavior management for teachers of students with Emotional/Behavioral disability, contribute to the literacy growth of EBD students. An Emotional/Behavioral Disability is defined by: (1) the student exhibits social, emotional or behavioral functioning that so departs from generally accepted, age appropriate ethnic or cultural norms that it adversely affects a child s academic progress, social relationships, personal adjustment, classroom adjustment, self care or vocational skills; (2) the behaviors are severe, chronic, and frequent, occur at school and at ... Some may also have a greater impact not only on the individual themselves, but also others than simply sleeping in or putting exercise on hold for another day. To begin with, it is of the belief that paying an individual to complete ones class work is a form of cheating therefore, a display of unethical behavior. However, the stock market crash also had underlying causes that could have been prevented. The crash began on October 24th, 1929 and was considered the most devastating stock market crash in history, in which over 15 million Americans were unemployed. The causes to blame for the stock market crash from most to least are as follows: The banks that gave loans, the average American, wealthy people and businessmen, the Federal Reserve Board, and the government. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The heart is able to do this thanks to the specialized cardiac muscle it contains. The contraction of the heart displays excitatory contraction coupling (EC coupling) similar to skeletal muscles except the action potential in the heart originates spontaneously at the peace maker of the heart (Silverthorn, 2013). Contraction happens when a rapid depolarization occurs due to the influx and opening of sodium voltage gated channels to raise the membrane potential toward the threshold value causing a firing of action potential. The conduction and cardiac cycle starts at a resting distol state for both ventricles and atriums and is initiated with the depolarization at the SA node (Silverthorn, 2013). This causes an action potential which moves rapidly towards the AV node where the signal gets slowed down (Silverthorn, 2013).When the signal reaches this point it causes a contraction/systole stage of the right and left atriums. This causes blood to be pumped into the ventricles through the AV valves (Silverthorn, 2013). The action potential then travels to the ventricles down the bundle branches out towards the Purkinje fibers (Silverthorn, 2013). In terms of the cardiac cycle an isovolumetric contraction occurs during the pause of the signal at the AV node allowing the AV valves to close, followed by ventricular systole where the ventricles expel blood into circulation (Silverthorn, 2013). The final stage in the cardiac cycle occurs between stimulations of action potential when the ventricles and atriums are in diastole and the chambers fill with blood once again (Silverthorn, ... • 24. My Musical Theatre Throughout my entire life I have never had any real interest in musical theatre. One time when I was in about 5th grade, my grandfather took me, my brother and my cousin to a showing of the Nutcracker. Let me tell you, I tried my hardest, I really tried, but I couldn t stay awake for the entire performance. This experience I had put a bad taste in my mouth as for the next several years, I never attended another musical theatre event. One day in the spring, I was going through Golden Bear Advising, and I saw that Berkeley recommended that everyone should listen to the Hamilton soundtrack. I didn t know much about the musical other than that a couple of my friends in my high school s theatre company listened to it. My first thought was that it must be better than the Nutcracker, so I decided I d give it a chance. About 15 seconds into Alexander Hamilton I remember saying out loud, hmm wow, this bumps! My first time listening to the soundtrack, I didn t listen to it all the way through, but I was definitely hooked I wanted to keep listening. Over the summer, whenever I d go on long car rides, I d try to listen to the soundtrack. To be honest, before I listened to the soundtrack, I didn t think that I would like it, simply because I wasn t a fan of musical theatre. However, I was blown away and thoroughly the music, the way in which it was presented and the story that was told. Elevating the mandatory age of pre graduates to 18 has been proven to encourage kids to stay in school and lead to an auspicious future. To lead off, students should be required to stay in school until they are 18 to set a moral imperative , as New Hampshire Deputy Commissioner of Education, Paul Leather states. The standard will create a moral obligation that will boost the chance of many kids sticking through high school to go on to earn their diploma. Some people claim that raising the minimum age is not a solution, but according to an article in National Education Weekly, by Mia Lewis, Raising the age for exiting pre graduation may not stop all dropouts, but it has a positive effect. The requirement will often significantly lower dropout rates. If this were paired with relevant schooling, as Kentucky uses, it could be even more effective in generating ... Educational advocate Missy Remiss states, Those without a highschool diploma are likely to have lower earnings, higher unemployment, lower job satisfaction they even have a higher likelihood of ending up in jail or on public assistance. The effects of this decision will often cause problems for the rest of the students lives. States need to do all they can to prevent this from occurring. Raising the dropout age of students would prevent more people from living below the poverty line and cost less for states with fewer people on public assistance. • 26. The Law Of The Corn Laws Another way in which a comparison of the two thinkers can be given with respect to the Corn Laws is through their positioning on the issue of Say s Law. To introduce this concept, Jean Baptiste Say developed the Law of Markets, which is commonly referred to as Say s Law, in his A Treatise on Political Economy. He maintains that in order to consume, one must provide supplies for another s demand in order to earn a unit of account to consume goods, meaning a consumer must also be a producer (Say, I.XV.133). Therefore, the economy is a constant cycle of production, proving that supply creates its own demand. Because of this implication, Say s Law can be viewed in relation to the Corn Laws as the law implies both that an economy will equilibrate without a need for government intervention and that free trade is non distortionary. Knowing this, it becomes evident that the law was supported by Ricardo, albeit implicitly, and explicitly rejected by Malthus. This section will therefore more indepthly move through the two thinker s opinions on the law to prove their stance on the greater issue of the Corn Laws. Malthus disagrees with Say s Law, as it oversimplifies the nuance of the economy through its failure to account for the insufficiency of demand coupled with overproduction. The main argument about the insufficiency of demand is brought about by the expenditure of the different social classes. The insufficiency of demand he notes makes up his glut theory. For Malthus, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Being in a family brings with it support, relationships, connections, and love that is rarely found anywhere else in a person s life. However, families are not all the same. Each individual family structure is unique when compared to the next. When looked at from a general perspective there are two main groups of which families fall into. There are families whose relationships are derived from and are strengthened by social obligation. These families are connected biologically, emotionally, or through a specific event and are forced to grow based on the ethics of proper family structure and societal opinions. • 30. The First Law Of Thermodynamics Thermodynamics is the study of heat and energy transfer, more specifically how heat transfer relates to energy changes within a system. The laws of thermodynamics were developed to predict and outline behaviors of thermodynamic processes (5). The First Law of Thermodynamics states that the change in a system s internal energy is equal to the difference between heat added to the system from its surroundings and work done by the system on its surroundings (5). The idea behind this is conservation of energy, meaning all energy in and out of a system must be accounted for. If energy is added to a system in the form of heat, it must be used. If heat is added to a system, the system either performs work (an exothermic process) or changes internal energy (an endothermic process) (4). Enthalpy, a thermodynamic potential, is the measure of the energy within this system. The change in enthalpy, H, must be measured in order to find out how energy is transferred throughout a system. If H has a positive value, the system is endothermic and it will keep the added heat, increasing its internal energy. If H has a negative value, it means the system lost heat or did work when energy was put into the system, so the system is exothermic (3). Gibbs Free Energy, G, is the maximum amount of energy or enthalpy available to do work. The decrease in Gibbs Free Energy is equivalent to the work done by a system to its surroundings, excluding pressure work (5). A negative G is required for a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This chain allows for the anywhere in the chain of command for an order to be issued and it will go down the chain to the level ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is also one of the most important reasons for the rank structure to have been created is that any time a commander can find out the condition of his troops. And this of course is something that every commander especially if the commander is going in to a wartime environment would like to know what strength he is has. Rank structure is vital to the Marine Corps or any military organization because rank structure is the basis of where all discipline in the ranks comes from. Without a rank structure know one would know who is in charge of who and everyone would start to trying to take charge in their own way cause confusion and disorder through the ranks. Also without rank structure, when rules or orders are broken in a military organization it is up to the superior of that person to discipline that person, no one would know who was supposed to merit the discipline or who is supposed to carry out the discipline thus cause more chaos and anarchy. Therefore in conclusion we see that without rank structure, military organization such as the Marine Corps could not function. Without rank structure the Marine Corps would be in disorder and disarray, because it would have no idea who was in charge and who was suppose to be the foot soldiers. Therefore maintaining proper rank structure is the responsibility of the highest ranking officer to the lowest ranking private in boot ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Easter Island Easter Island I was born today. My bones quarried at Rano Raraku near the northeast end of my homeland, Easter Island. My makers were small, with deep tawny skin that gleamed with moisture under the sun as they carved the gentle curves of my body. As I lay among the rock, an unmoving piece of stone that stretched across the land to the creatures that constructed me, I observed the thriving life around me. I was surrounded by trees, some whose unbranched bodies shot into the vibrant sky, their silky, lively leaves dancing in the warm wind that swept over me. Down at my laying level, grew a variety of small, round, leafy, thin, and sweet smelling plants, sprouting from the land like gifts sent from the fertile soil. From the moment ... Each day, just as the sun began to rise, hundreds of humans would rush out onto the beach, dragging their dead tree boats into the choppy water, heading to sea to kill the peaceful porpoises, which happily swam around the island. And each night, I would watch these boats, like a heard of hungry savages, charge towards the shore with their slaughtered fish thrown in a heap, ready to be feasted on by the islanders. I was no longer the only one of my kind. Hundreds of others lined the shore. Some were taller, others much smaller, each with differently carved facial features, some even decorated with red crowns. I painfully watched as my brothers and sisters were created. First they were born from the quarry, and carved by hundreds of humans with their stone chisels. Next, once the needed amount of Chilean wine palms trees were killed and enough hauhau trees to make a long rope were stripped apart, the statue was ready to be transported to the coast, where I stood. I noticed as the land around me became bare, naked, that the sound of leaves rustling, and dancing in the wind became more and more faint as the trees were cut down, one by one, and ... • 48. Therapy Vs. Punishment In Truman Capote s In Cold Blood Karl Menninger opposes punishment and thinks therapy is a better method. I will argue against therapy over punishment on the basis of utilitarian and retributive arguments provided by several theorists. As well as touching on the novel In Cold Blood by Truman Capote in which two men murder a family and are sentenced to death row and Clockwork Orange, a movie that deals with the use of therapy on a criminal rather than punishment/sending him to jail. Menninger replaced the idea of punishment for that of penalty / or therapy. Menninger states that punishment is more so used for the deliberate inflicting of pain, usually motivated by vengeance which should not be societies basis for reprimanding criminals. He states that we, the designated representatives of the society which has failed to integrate this man, [...]should take over. It is our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He explains how this principle guides humanity by asking how would punishment increase the happiness of society? Some utilitarians may agree, in part, with Menninger as they view that a system of punishment, offers no incentive for the victim to involve himself in the criminal justice process other than to satisfy his feelings of duty or revenge [..] (Barnett p 285). He discusses how even punishment which seeks to change an offender s moral outlook or scare him, does nothing to provide them with skills needed to survive in the real world. Barnett offers up a new paradigm of restitution; in the old paradigm two people are seen at the same level, when a criminal commits an act against someone the victim is brought down and then by imprisoning the criminal they are also brought down; whereas in restitution both the victim and the criminal would be brought back ...
