Essay on Art and the Bible
Art and the Bible
Art and the Bible is an interesting approach at looking at art in all of its forms. It also answers the
question what is the place of art in the Christian life? Along with the question it tries to put a general
perspective on art. The different types of art that are mentioned are writing, painting, poetry, drama
and music. The question is answered by looking in the Bible and finding specific example regarding
art in all of its forms. The general perspectives on art are looked at in eleven points. I will also critique
this book and give my personal opinion. The first thing made clear in Art and the Bible is the Lordship
of Christ regarding man. The Bible makes four things very clear: God made the whole man; in ...

While Moses was on Sinai, God gave him specific instructions regarding the building of the
tabernacle. And in these instructions God clearly asked for beauty to be present in the tabernacle. God
commanded that art be constructed, not only in the Tabernacle but also in the Temple. There was no
utilitarian purpose for some of the art in the Tabernacle and in the Temple, it is just that God is very
interested in beauty. Also, God didn t say that the art had to be photogenic, God commanded that there
be blue, purple, and scarlet pomegranates adorning the skirts of the priest. Purple and scarlet are
natural colors of a pomegranate but blue is not. In other words art can be free, it is not constricted to
actuality in nature. There are many other instances in which God commanded art in the Temple and in
the Tabernacle.
The art that has been discussed so far has all had to do with God, but there is also secular art, and that
does not mean that it is wrong. There is secular art in the Bible, in 1 Kings 10 Solomon s throne is
described. His throne is adorned with ivory and the finest gold, and with a total of 14 lions, as statues
or real lions. This must have been a magnificent piece of secular art.
For even more uses of art look at the serpent of brass. God used this piece of art in a very symbolic
way. While the Israelites were wandering in the desert they started to complain and God sent fiery
serpents among the people and many of them died.

Ruth Heller s The Korean Cinderella
The high quality text that we chose to work with was The Korean Cinderella written by Shirley Climo
and illustrated by Ruth Heller. Shirley climo has ventured to many places learning about different
culture and writing classic tales through the story lenses of different cultures. Ruth Heller is a
wonderful illustrator. All her drawings for the books she s illustrated are colorful and vibrant. She has
also illustrated for a few of Shirley Climo s books besides this one. Before illustrating this book,
Heller traveled to Korea to do research on her illustrations for this text. The last pages of the book are
devoted to both the author s and illustrator s notes. Here they discuss why they made certain writing or
artistic decisions. Shirley Climo even mentions that she wrote this story based on three different
variations of the Korean tale.
The Korean Cinderella is a fairytale that s similar to the original Cinderella story but told from a
Korean culture s perspective. The story is about a young girl named Pear Blossom who lives with her

We asked Kelly s mother, who is a second grade teacher, if we could borrow some of her high quality

Cinderella. The module is called Different lands, similar stories and incorporates many different
versions of Cinderella. This Korean version of Cinderella fits nicely into the module. We decided to
use this text because we thought it would be a good idea for the children to learn about the compare
and contrast strategy and use it with the original Cinderella text and the Korean Cinderella ( Link to

Essay On Hospitality And Tourism Industry
In this world, people are the most important resources for business. This is extremely genuine with
respect to a service intensive sector, which is Hospitality and Tourism (H T) industry (Baum, 2006). In
this industry, development support should emphasize on the staff with high quality of performance and
skills so that the hospitality and tourism industry can reach the level of full business potential and it is
the main factors to underpin the competitive success in this industry (Baum, 2006).
Hospitality and Tourism (H T) industry play a significant role in the global economy due to many
countries are increasing open up their borders to join the wave of global integration and the
development of the hospitality and tourism industry has become a source of substantial foreign
exchange revenues for the economies (Giap, Gopalan, Ye, 2016). Hospitality and Tourism industry is a
vast group of businesses that provide services to customers. By proving this kind of service,
hospitality and tourism industry should focused on the satisfaction of customers and also providing the
specific experiences for customers. Thus, hospitality and tourism industry is unique because it relies

The Worth of Native Americans Essay
When you feel worthless, and are told you are completely worthless, and start to believe it, would you
have the strength to break down the walls? As a Native American it was hard, and still is, to feel as
though you belonged in America. They struggle with high rates of suicide, are told they aren t going to
be anything but and Indian, and some overcome. But why do they have to be put through it? From the
time the first settlers arrived, Native Americans lost all control over their land; and, in the 19th
century, when they gave all their land to the government, they were also promised health care benefits.
They relied on the government to give them the help they needed and when the sequester came, and
budgets were cut, they stopped ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the little girl because she had gotten so attached to them. Little Tree refuses to see the barriers and

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Comrba
CORBA is an object bus, which enables the client to invoke methods on remote objects at the server
of the language the objects have been written in, and also their location. CORBA is a competing
systems technology that offers greater portability. CORBA isn t tied to one language and to a single
platform. CORBA services are described by an interface, which is written in the IDL. CORBA allows
objects to make requests of remote objects, and allows data to be passed between two remote systems.
CORBA only allows primitive data types, and structures to be passed across virtual machines, but not

RMI applications comprise of two separate programs, a server and a client. A typical server creates
some remote objects, makes references to these objects accessible, and waits for clients to invoke
methods on these objects. Whereas a client program obtains a remote reference to one or more remote
objects on a server and then invokes methods on them. RMI provides a mechanism in which the server
and the client communicate and pass information back and forth. The RMI system consists of four
layers, namely, application layer, stub and skeleton layer, remote reference layer and transport layer.
These are the layered architecture being used by Java RMI. The application layer sits on top of the

Analysis Of Yes Please By Amy Poehler
Have you always known what you want to be when you grow up? Amy Poehler always knew her
lifelong dream: being an actress. In her autobiography, Yes Please, she talks about growing up acting.
If someone wants to know more about the life of an actor, this nonfiction book contains a lot of
relevant information; therefore, what really happens behind the scenes. Amy s novel contains some
serious and empowering chapters of her life but also incorporates a lot of comedy. Overall, this book
was intriguing and had many interesting stories about Amy during her career. In this novel, Amy
shows how she is just like any other person. One reason this novel was so interesting was the amount
of pictures and visual aides Amy expressed throughout the book. I really thought the pictures were
detailed and added something extra to the book. There is a picture in the book that shows Amy in a
school play when she was younger: she played Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. Amy s acting technique
is very spontaneous. I could decide right then and there what the next moment would be. I could try
something new. I could go off script and give something a shot. I could say whatever I wanted
(Poehler 5). Amy felt comfortable with acting to where she thought she could do whatever she wanted.
Upcoming actors can learn from this that being different is admired. I like reading about how Amy s
life as a child paved the pathway to her being on SNL as an adult. She relays intriguing behind the
scene facts. I did

Home Schooling Is An Amazing Experience This Year
Home schooling has been an amazing experience this year. 1It has helped me grow in my faith and in
my knowledge of the Bible. I have so much more knowledge dealing with the Bible and I am now so
much closer to God than I have ever been in my life up to this point. 2I have been more energized and
excited to learn, my entire personality has taken a huge turn for the better. I am now an outgoing,
bubbly girl ready to learn, that s from the inside out from the light of Jesus.3 Also, I have been able to
learn much more than I than I would have in a year of public school in one home school year! I have
done an extra semester in my math, I have also been on so many school trips that are all for school.
4There have been so many benefits for my family as well. We have all grown so much closer and we
actually get to see each other. Another huge benefit, I have noticed, of being home schooled is, 5I don
t have to worry about getting vulgar, ungodly, lessons that put down Christianity and God all day,
every day and I don t have to deal with all the horrible vulgarity from students and teachers alike. I
have grown in my faith, and knowledge; I have grown closer to God, family, and friends. I have
gained so much knowledge about God and his word since starting home schooling in early September.
Reading the Bible has become one of the subjects I am required to do every day and it has become my
absolute favorite. I have read the entire book of Galatians, Philippians,

What Is The Mood Of The Short Happy Life Of Francis Macomber
In Ernest Hemingway s short story, ¨The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber,¨ readers learn about
Francis character through the perspectives of other characters. Hemingway develops Francis character
as a man full of shame, cowardice, and bravery by using multiple perspectives as he threads a negative
tone throughout the story.
Topic Sentence: A characteristic of Francis that is developed through the short story is shamefulness.
Example Wilson Perspective: Francis brings shame upon himself when he continually asks Wilson to
not talk about the lion. Wilson furthers the shamefulness by saying ¨I m a professional hunter. We
never talk about our clients¨ (Page 4)

She brings shame and pain upon her husband by hinting to him that he was not the actual one that
killed the lion. Margaret uses the lion hunt as a way to mentally bully and harm Francis as she has
done in the past to show she is the one that controls their relationship.
Transition sentence: The narrator also contributes to tell about and bring shamefulness into the life of
Francis Macomber
Evidence Narrator:Sometimes Hemingway uses the narrator to further develop characteristics, such as
on page 1, The gun bearers had taken no part in the demonstration.
Explanation: The gun bearers do not verbally bring shame into Francis life, however they do bring
shame into his life by their actions. They brings shame to Francis because they know what really
happened with the lion hunt. The gun bearers not congratulating him for the kill plays a major role in
the story and the unmanliness Mr.Macomber experienced through his life.
Conclusion sentence: Hemingway s craft of repetition creates shame for Francis. Repetition creates
shame for Francis because he is constantly looked down from his wife and Wilson. By using multiple
characters to portray this character trait, it further explains and shows the true meaning of this

Hamlet And Ophelia In Shakespeare s Hamlet
In the Shakespeare play hamlet, Hamlet tries to hide a lot of emotions. In the play hamlet and ophelia
are said to be in love or that Ophelia loves hamlet. Although people believe they are in love, Hamlet
does not really act like he does love her. In the play, Hamlet has an unknown relationship with ophelia
that could be fake; But there could be some reasoning behind the relationship and why he would be
using her. Throughout the play Hamlet does not treat Ophelia well and sometimes even insults her. He
had said many times Get thee to a nunnery (III.I). He would often say this throughout this
conversation as another way to make her feel bad. That he was trying to hurt but still look as if he
loved her to others. Also later when Ophelia talks about what happened she said He took me by the
wrist and held me hard (II.I). That in the conversation between hamlet and Ophelia when Hamlet was
not verbally hurting her, he would sometimes get physical. Hamlet would often use this as a way to
show how insane he was getting. Also when Ophelia was talking to Polonius she said And thrice his
head thus waving up and down (II.I). This is another example of when Hamlet do things to make
himself seem more insane. Also he is using Ophelia again as a way to spread about himself that he
wants. So Hamlet would verbally and sometimes physically hurt her to get her to do what he wants.
Hamlet had felt that he would have a better connection to the people around him if he was with
Ophelia.

The Iron Wall
The Iron Wall is a documentary film released in 2006. It is all about the establishment of the West
Bank Israeli settlements. According to the film, these settlements are a strategy to occupy the territory
permanently. The construction of the controversial Israeli West Bank barrier is among the issues
covered. The Palestinians for Peace and Democracy and the Palestinian Agricultural Relief
Committees jointly produced the film. The Al Jazeera Television Production Festival made the film an
Official Selection. The film follows the timeline through which the establishment of the settlements
took place. It examines the effects of the settlements on the peace process. Featured in the film are
interviews with noted political analysts and peace activists from Palestine and Israel, including Hind
Khoury, Akiva Eldar, and Jeff Halper. The subtitles of the film are in Hebrew, Arabic and English.
The film points to the West Bank settlement colonies that Israel propagated as the main challenge to
peace. The film argues that colonization takes place through these settlements without regard to
Palestinians desires. This process has gone on through decades before Israel was established. The
daily growth of the settlements is an indication that the policy is active. The film claims that ... Show

Self Efficacy, Self Esteem, And Social Wellness Essay
Suicide, the reason what teens use to get away from life, caused by depression and other mental health
problems. Unhealthy minds and healthy minds will tell you how unclear thoughts affects someone.
This brings down the self efficacy, self esteem, and self confidence. There are three steps to prevent
suicide, which might decrease the risk of suicide from happening. This might give you a clear idea to
help prevent a friend, family member, or anyone from committing suicide.
Self Efficacy
Many of us had been though a couple of rough times and some pretty amazing ones as well. Difficult
times for most people can take away their energy, taken away emotions, and break a person s spirit.
The good times on the other hand can lift someone s spirit up, boost their self esteem, and show signs
of our capability. This is called self efficacy, it connects with four of the 6 dimensions of health
mental, emotional, spiritual, and social wellness. These effects tell people to feel good about
themselves, help them control their social anxiety, and maintain a positive lookout on life.
Healthy vs Unhealthy People with an unhealthy mental mind can be extremely dangerous, or just plain
terrible, they would respond with an irrational response. Whereas, healthy people respond with a more
positive, a better outlook on life. A healthy mind has a good attitude, value, beliefs, and can reason
with other people. Unhealthy people with unhealthy minds cannot do things like that. They either have

Human Impact On Wetlands Essay
Human Impact
Humans have had a huge impact on wetlands in multiple ways. From construction of homes to
pollution to altering chemical composition of the wetland, we have had a negative impact on our
precious wetlands. Without even noticing, our daily actions have greatly affected the ecosystem.
Statistics
In the 1600 s, there were approximately 220 million acres of wetlands in the forty eight states (Dahl
1990). Since then, the numbers have been dropping drastically. In 1980, an estimated number of 103.3
million acres of wetlands were left (Dahl and Johnson 1991). That s a 53% decrease! (See Figure 3.5)

Victimization in Margaret Atwood s ¡§Rape Fantasies¡¨
Rape Fantasies: Female Victimization
Margaret Atwood¡¦s ¡§Rape Fantasies¡¨, a monologue of a woman discus her concern about the topic
of rape, demonstrates the power struggle between men and women and how female are victimized by
the society. Furthermore, Atwood talks about the importance of having ¡§voice¡¨ as a power or
solution to victimization.
In the story, there is an exploration of female vulnerability, and victimization in the rape fantasies.
Atwood through using the voice of the first person narrator, Estelle, to show that women have been
unconsciously accept the idea, which is created by the media, that women are inferior and submissive
to men. Estelle is critical to the romantic fantasies of her coworkers as they accept the ... Show more

Therefore, the imagined rapists fail to rape Estelle as there is sharing and emotional communication
between both sexes. Although the society is changing, female are still burdened by the social
inequalities and rules. They have the right to reject all the inequalities by speaking out, saying ¡§no¡¨,
but most of the female fail to do that. Likewise, the issue of power is also concerned in ¡§Where are
you going? Where have you been?¡¨. In the final scene of it, Arnold gains domination in his talking
while Connie only makes short sentences. He uses psychological manipulation to threat Connie who
fails to find any ways to resist that she surrenders and satisfies the desires of the man. Connie fails to
find her ¡§voice¡¨ to fight the threat. Voice is very important to female. So Atwood emphasizes the
idea of communication in her story to demonstrate that there is an equal share of power between men
and women if both sides talk and listen to each other. Through talking and listening, men and women
can come to understand one another. Thus, crime and pain can be avoided due to the mutual sympathy.
Women can never fight their humiliating figure under the domination of men with their physical
strength because it is not comparable to man. Voice is the solution to victimization. If a woman cannot
find her voice, she can only end up to be a stereotyping woman who is being treated

Cut And Chip Test Testing
Cut and Chip Test
Ohio Northern University
May, 2016 July, 2016
Background: Cut and chip is a phenomena in tires that manifests itself primarily from prolonged off
road use. As the tires are used off road, the tread compound will be cut by rocks and eventually large
pieces of the tread rubber are chipped off. Current tests involve manufacturing a series of test tires and
sending them to a test track in Texas. The tires are then run on a controlled gravel road. Each set of
tires is run for 1000 miles, 500 each day for two days. In each set of 500 miles, 100 miles are on flint
rock and 400 miles are on the highway. The tires are then ranked visually by multiple engineers to
determine which rubber compounds demonstrate the best cut and chip resistance. Thus, current testing
is expensive, time intensive, and subjective. Students at Ohio Northern University therefore built a
tester that can use a lab test for tread rubber compounds. Cooper will be able to save time and money
by testing much fewer compounds with the road test. However, although this tester is a very
successful design, the cut and chip lab test using this tester is a brand new idea that has never been
done by any engineers, as we know. Therefore, a summer intern project was created to investigate the
usage of the tester and the cut and chip lab test. It should be noted that the investigation is a proof of
concept study that many trials have to be performed to use the lab test for tread rubber compounds to

Theme Of The Storm By Kate Chopin
The Storm
Kate Chopin died in 1904, 16 years before women received the right to vote. She was raised by
mother s family, aristocratic Creoles and married a Creole cotton broker from New Orleans. They
lived on a plantation near Cloutierville, Louisiana. After her husband s unexpectedly death, she turned
to writing. In defiance of her time, she wrote frank descriptions of women s sexual desires. She also
usually set her stories in Louisiana. Her use of setting has caused to be known as regional writer. An
excellent example of her frank descriptions and regionalism is her short story, The Storm. The Storm,
is about a woman who has an affair while rain storm rolls in in rural Louisiana. Within the story,
Chopin uses her setting to establish the story s, characterization and symbolism. The Storm uses its

Higher Chain Alcohols Essay
The experiment was conducted to discover whether higher chain alcohols (emulsified with the
diesohol) will have a higher heat output compared to the shorter chain alcohols, (as more products will
be created within the combustion of the higher chain alcohol diesohols), was discovered to be partially
supported. The heat output of each diesohol was measured using calorimetric techniques, in order to
collect data and support the hypothesis. As can be seen in Figure 1, the heat output of diesel and 5%
hexanol was significantly higher than the blend of diesel and 5% ethanol, displaying synergistic
effects. However, the diesel + octanol blend was an outlier, as it did not follow the trend of the data
and increase in energy above the hexanol (dropped to 5.6 kJ/g instead of rising above 6.3 kJ/g). As
seen in Figure 1, both butanol and octanol mixed with diesel and the pure alcohols had similar heat
outputs, regardless of the length of their carbon chain length. Perhaps, due to the even chain length of
butanol (4) and octanol (8).
Observing the data, it can be seen that there is a significant increase in the amount of energy diesel +
hexanol (C6) produced (in kJ/g). Theoretically, only 5.2 kJ/g was expected to be released, however the

Kaiser Permanente s Policy On Central Venous Catheter
Getting an infection from improper care during or after insertion of a central line is the last thing you
want to get while in the hospital. This paper will discuss Kaiser Permanente s policy on central venous
catheter, also known as a central line, care and dressing change, and whether it follows the current
evidence based practice on preventing bloodstream infection in patients who have them inserted. I will
explain about what a central line is, why evidence based practice is important in the clinical setting,
what Kaiser Permanente s policy about central line care and dressing change is, if Kaiser is currently
following evidence based practice based on current articles about preventing central line associated
bloodstream infections (CLABSIs), and what my role in using evidence based practice is as a future
registered nurse. Lewis et al. explain in Medical Surgical Nursing, a central line is a catheter placed
into a large blood vessel for a patient who requires frequent or long term access to the vascular
system. The authors explain that catheters are used for the administration of high volume fluids,
medications that are irritating (such as chemotherapy), long term pain medication, blood products,
parenteral nutrition, and hemodialysis. Kaiser policy states four different types of central line used for
patients: Centrally inserted catheters, peripherally inserted catheters, injection implanted ports and

to manage their career themselves and book their own shows. However, there is a significant
importance of having an agent from the start, as suggested by Teri Saccone: Some industry experts
advise that you should find an agent prior to getting a record deal as booking artists for venues

Diabetes Essay example
There are two types of diabetes: diabetes insipidus and diabetes mellitus. Diabetes insipidus is a rare
metabolic disorder caused by a deficiency of the pituitary hormone, which is usually the result of
damage to the pituitary gland. Diabetes insipidus is characterized by enormous amounts of urine that
are produced by the body regardless of how much liquid is consumed. Diabetes mellitus results from
the production of insufficient amounts of insulin by the pancreas. Without insulin the body cannot
utilize glucose, thus creating a high level of glucose in the blood and a low level of glucose absorption
by the tissues. Diabetes mellitus is generally divided into two categories: type I called insulin

Zinc s Role In The Body
Zinc is a mineral that plays major roles in the body. For instance, it plays a role in the anabolism of
proteins as well of the development of proteins. In addition, it affects cell division and gene
expression. Zinc is also needed in reproductive and immune system (Fink and Heitner 2014). There
are individuals that do not have an adequate amount of zinc in their everyday diets and doctors
recommend that they take over the counter supplements to prevent serious health problems.
The body has a certain amount of zinc in the bloodstream, which helps the body to be healthy and to
function properly. According to the National Institute of Health (2011), the amount of zinc one needs

Hippolytus Sirens
A goddess s curse, a creepy doorkeeper, and deadly sirens. This seemly random list holds the common
thread between three seemingly different stories. In Euripides s tragic play Hippolytus, Aphrodite

doorkeeper with a big sharp nose and long, thin, black Tartar beard (Kafka 3). Ulysses, in Kafka s

When she s first struck by her disease (Euripides 51), Phaedra laments on her desire to engage in

doing so, Phaedra simply drowns in her own sorrow and unbearable pain (Euripides 261) rather than
contemplating how she finds herself in this position. She doesn t see her problem in practical terms
but only in how it affects her emotionally. The man, just like Phaedra, does not think about the
tangible, logical aspects of his affliction. After the man gets consistently shot down by the doorkeeper
for months, the narrator notes that the man now just grumbles to himself (Kafka 4). The word grumble
implies an inactive emotional response in which the person grumbling passingly expressing frustration

his problem with a logical perspective. As a result, the man reverts to childish tendencies such as
asking the fleas to help him enter the gate (Kafka 4). Therefore, both the man and Phaedra prove that

My life has changed positively... and I can confidently say that.
A few years ago, this statement would have been utterly false or perhaps something else I d say under
the influence of alcohol or to prevent my loved ones from finding out that I had taken a few sips. It
had become second nature to me, lying. I could say anything after having a few glasses, or a bottle, or

people around me, or whether they affected them. All I cared about was myself and the temporary
escape I get from reality, which the drink offered. When I was sad I d drink, when I was happy I d

Boy At The Window By Richard Wilbur
Snowmen: More Man than Snow
We are all just snowmen, fragile, emotional, melting into tears, even if no other human being sees us
that way. In the poem Boy at the Window by Richard Wilbur, a young, innocent boy is described
feeling the pain of a snowman about to feel the effects of a winter storm. The different points of view
as well as the speaker s poetic style, which allows for connotation, impacts the story to make it the
quality two stanzas that it is. The speaker s use of two viewpoints is one element of the speaker s style
that impacts the poem. It assists the reader in reading the story from the perspective of the characters,
and let us know their emotions and inner thoughts. This makes for a much more interesting story than
if the story was written from the outsider s perspective. The boy and the snowman s points of view are
not the same, but similar. The boy is in a state of despair after learning that the snowman might be
destroyed by a blizzard, not realizing that the snowman can withstand it because he is also made of
snow. The snowman is content to ride out the blizzard, but sheds an icy tear, moved by the heavy
emotions of the boy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

when that individual reaches the age of eighteen, which is the legal age. The definition that society
gives is controversial because, if an individual is not looked at as an adult until the age of eighteen, but
can be tried in court at the age of sixteen and up. Societies definition falls apart at this point. Basically,
what society is telling us that a person who is out in the world committing adult level crimes if this

The human brain finishes developing at the age of twenty five. Just because some individual stops
growing physically between the ages of sixteen and eighteen, does not mean that they are adult ready.
Society thinks that at eighteen you are ready to face the world at eighteen, society is wrong. At
eighteen you do not have all the skills needed to be an adult, most importantly the individual is not
biologically ready. The individual is not mature enough to be considered biologically ready for
adulthood. To have the maturity level if an adult, a person needs to understand the difference from
right and wrong, can defend themselves appropriately, cannot let things get to them to make them mad
or over react. This is something that society really does not care about, if the person is biologically
ready to be an adult. A lot of the people who are considered adults today are still in high school or in
their first year of college, those individuals are out here making the same teenage immature mistakes
that anyone else is making. Although a person is making childish mistakes and even though this
individual knows that they are not ready to be an adult they are still considered an adult because well
they meet society s adult standards. Most individuals do not obtain the most important thing about
being biologically ready which is maturity until the age of twenty five when their brain is done

PTSD is a slept on thing that many people do not believe in. About 11 20 out of every 100 soldiers

Comparing Power In Great Expectations And Romeo And Juliet...
In all walks of life, some person or party is on top and has power. Whether it be in government with a
king or a president, or in business with a Chief Executive Officer, someone is in charge. This value of
power is seen everywhere and is often portrayed in media and literature. Therefore, those with power
use their power to their own advantage, regardless of the effect on others. As aforementioned, this
theme is often portrayed in classic literature, specifically the novel Great Expectations by Charles

One of Plato s greatest works was The Republic . The Republic was Plato s defence of justice and
what he thinks is the best form of government. The piece of writing brings up two questions that are
still relevant today. The questions brought up by this piece of writing were what is justice? , and what
is the relation between justice and being happy? . Some of Plato s other pieces of writing include
Meno. The Meno was written in an attempt to define what virtue was. Another one of Plato s well
known dialogue was Symposium. Plato wrote Symposium to show the purpose and nature of love.
Plato wrote many more dialogues, that people still read to this day. Plato spent his final years of his

in his sleep due to old age. Others say he died while attending a wedding.

philosophy of Socrates and Aristotle helped form a basic idea of western philosophical traditions.

This paper explores the change that General Motors faced after the economic recession and credit
crisis that began in 2007. This pushed GM to request assistance from the U.S. Treasury which resulted
in the restructuring of their US operations. The start of this restructuring change involved downsizing

GM s structural change is an example of retrenchment, which is done by centralizing/specializing a
firm s operations to sustain or improve productivity (Palmer et al., 2009).
Downsizing is generally regarded as midrange or second order change . A second order change is
transformational, radical, and fundamentally alters the organization at its core. Second order change
entails not developing but transforming the nature of the organization (Palmer et al., 2009).
Furthermore, GM s downsizing can be seen as a type 2 transformation, which involves the
revitalization of already established companies... where the organization remains in the same market
but focuses on how to rebuild itself in order to operate more effectively (Palmer et al., 2009). GM
remained in the automotive industry but needed to restructure and downsize in order to mitigate the
effects of the economic recession.
In its restructuring, GM closed plants, cut its workforce, shed three brands, reduced debt, introduced
popular new vehicles, and implemented changes to reduce retiree legacy costs, which had been a
major financial drain (Canis Webel, 2013). Cuts were made based on whether a person s position was
deemed redundant, the level of their subject matter expertise, and performance reviews (Smerd, 2009).

As technologies advanced and more inventions became widely available, societies began to move
away from use of those sources and towards fossil fuels for a variety of reasons. In England, for
example. even prior to the Industrial Revolution, demand was so great and coal so much more
efficient than traditional energy sources, it quickly replaced the use of biomass (wood) as the primary
energy source (Allen, 2012). In addition, building upon what was already known about combustion
energy and coupling that with new discoveries such as the steam engine, fossil fuels were a ticket
towards progress all over the world (Mumford, 1935, p. 156). As these processes were streamlined,
the 18th century saw a huge growth in transportation initiatives, urbanization and population, and the
physiological needs of food, water, and shelter, all on the bottom of Maslow s pyramid (1943), were
met with greater ease. An example of this growth can be found in the United States westward

differences within the culture could be considered important (Biddle, 2010). With some cultures

This project was in line with similar projects in ethnic neighborhoods. For instance, the metal Puerto

complaints that the pylons would mark connected areas as being gay, flower planters to mark side

Minoan Crete Research Paper
The first great age of Minoan Crete was the Old Palace period(2000 1700B.C),during which huge
labyrinthine palaces were built at Knossos, Phaistos, Malia and Zakros. In these palaces the power and
wealth of the island were concentrated, and around them the political, social, economic and religious
life of the island revolved. The manner in which these buildings and their various servicing systems
were constructed is quite remarkable. In 1700 B.C. a great earthquake shook the island and the palaces
were laid in ruins. In a very short time, however, new palaces were built on the ruins of the old in an
architectural style expressive of the Minoan love of nature and desire to live in a world of light and
charm.
The Mycenaean civilization flourished during the period roughly between 1600 BC, when Heliadic
culture in mainland Greece was transformed under influences from Minoan Crete, and 1100 BC, when
it perished with the collapse of Bronze Age civilization in the eastern Mediterranean. Mycenaean
artifacts have been found well outside the limits of the Mycenaean world: namely Mycenaean swords
are know from as far away as Georgia in the Caucasus and Mycenaean bronze double axes and other
objects dating from 13th century BCE have been found in Ireland and in Wessex and Cornwall in
England. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only did the Mycenae ans defeat the Minoans, but according to later Hellenic legend they defeated
Troy ,presented in epic as a city state that rivaled Mycenae in power. Because the only evidence for
the conquests is Homer s lliad and other texts steeped in mythology, the existence for Troy and the
historicity of the Trojan War is uncertain. Mycenae ans were buried in a sitting position, and some of
the nobility underwent mummification, whereas Homer s Achilles and Patroclus were not buried but
cremated, in Iron Age fashion, and honoured with gold urns instead of gold

Examples Of Foreshadowing In The Monkey s Paw
In The Monkey s Paw, the paw symbolizes temptation and greed which is a flaw in all human beings.
It has the power to fulfill 3 wishes to 3 owners, making the use of it tempting to the person who owns
it. As an instance, in the beginning of the story, Mr. White is very eager to have the paw when sergeant
Morris takes it out; it is in human nature to continuously desire more that the possessions that one
already owns which is caused by temptation and greed (the paw). The paw is also symbolically related
to the snake in Adam and Eve as it leads Adam and Eve to destruction by using temptation to make
them greedy. The message that is conveyed through the paw is that temptation to change one s fate
will end badly, no matter how small the wish might be (in the end the White family loses its only son).
Mention and explain 3 cases of foreshadowing in the Monkey s Paw which foretell of Herbert s death.

Mention at least 3 points. The 7th room symbolizes death: The room is shrouded (dead people are
often shrouded in a sheet) in black velvet and is decorated with black decorations black is often used
to symbolize death There is an ebony clock in the room and its chimes go off at each hour which
causes all revelers to pause for a few seconds and think deeply The clock is a symbol for passing time
and it s ringing reminds people that their death is approaching, making them fearful. Also at the
ringing of the clock, all activity/life stops which represents death. Moreover, the fact that the revelers
are unable to stop the clock from ringing means that they cannot stop time or escape death The rooms
are arranged from east to west with the blue room on the east and the black one on the west. East
represents birth because of sunrise and west represents death because of sunset. Also, each of the 7
rooms represents a stage of one s life, with the black on the very end representing

Importance Of Personal Goals In Life
Since I was young, I knew exactly what I wanted to do in life, to be successful and happy. My whole
life, I have been surrounded by prosperous family members and family friends. Growing up around
these people, I came to acknowledge that they had a sense of stability and happiness about them
because they got to get up every morning and go to a job they love. However, what I admired most is
their success did not come easy, they worked hard to become the respected people they are today. This
assisted me in adapting three strong core values: personal growth, entrepreneurship, and respect.
Although I grew up with a successful family, I learned that success does not come easy. Nowadays,
people are led to believe they do not have to exert any effort to become successful, and they could just
lean on their family s prosperity. My family was raised in the middle to upper class, but they were all
parented to know they had to earn it themselves and that they had to work for what they want; they
couldn t turn to their family for assistance. Therefore, I was also raised with this view. This developed
my value of personal growth. One of my goals in life is to earn my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and
my Master of Business Administration. I strive to achieve these, knowing that the process will be
challenging. After graduating veterinary school with my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, I plan to
become a vet. After approximately 10 years, I plan to go to Business school and earn my Master

Essay On Shin Splint
A shin splint is a widely used term for pain in the lower leg or shin. Scientists don t completely know
exactly what a shin splint is. Some believe that a shin splint is a small tear of the muscle that s pulled
off the bone. Some other theories about the exact problem that causes shin splints include: an
inflammation of the periosteum or of the muscle.
Shin splints are commonly encountered in runners or other athletes due to the high amount of strain
placed on their legs. The pressure of all of your body weight placed on your legs can aid in causing
shin splints. When athletes normally get shin splints, they have recently increased the amount of miles
they usually run, changed their workout plan, or changed the surface they are running on. When
runners increase their mileage too quickly, it puts newfound strain on their legs because their legs aren
t used to running that long. If an athlete changes their workout plan, they are using muscles that they
didn t previously. If they use the muscles around the shin, it could inflame that area and cause the
athlete, or just anyone working out, to get shin splints. When a runner gets used to running on one
type of surface, the tension or angle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This causes shin splints to be mistaken for other conditions. One such condition is a stress fracture.
One difference between shin splints and stress fractures is that the pain caused by shin splints doesn t
have a definite spot of where the pain is coming from. It is a more generalized type of pain than stress
fractures. Another difference is that shin splints feel worse in the morning due to the soft tissue
tightening overnight. There isn t a real need to seek medical attention for shin splints specifically, but
if the pain keeps up, you might want to go to the doctor in order to make sure that it s just shin splints.
Some people go to the doctors to check on shin splints and find out that they have tendonitis or stress

Ferrin s Process Of Inductive Bible Study
Ferrin s process of inductive Bible study takes on a relational approach that consists of three essential
parts or phases titled Foundation, Framing, and Finish Work. The structured methods encompass
studying a book of the Bible and internalizing it rather than just memorizing the words (p. 3). The
author diligently explains how that through the devoted application of all phases individuals and group
Bible study participants are sure to fall in love with God s Word (p. 3). Ferrin presents and or
describes Scripture internalization as taking in the truth and then applying it to everyday life or living.
Ferrin pointed out that the benefits of understanding biblical messages book by book include the
Living Word of God becoming a reality within persons that grow more enjoyable and rewarding as
time comes and goes.
On a personal note, I practice reading the Bible through the process of observation. For instance, I
practice learning what to look for in the text; interpreting the meaning; I prayerfully seek God and
through the power of the Holy Spirit I can apply what I read. Nevertheless, I feel Ferrin s process of
inductive Bible study might prove more productive and edifying both personally and in a group.
Moving forward and upon careful consideration, I find that Ferrin s four step building a house analogy
approach might help me to get to know a book of the Bible and all of its elements. For example,
during the foundation phase the background study of the author,

  • 2. Essay on Art and the Bible Art and the Bible Art and the Bible is an interesting approach at looking at art in all of its forms. It also answers the question what is the place of art in the Christian life? Along with the question it tries to put a general perspective on art. The different types of art that are mentioned are writing, painting, poetry, drama and music. The question is answered by looking in the Bible and finding specific example regarding art in all of its forms. The general perspectives on art are looked at in eleven points. I will also critique this book and give my personal opinion. The first thing made clear in Art and the Bible is the Lordship of Christ regarding man. The Bible makes four things very clear: God made the whole man; in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While Moses was on Sinai, God gave him specific instructions regarding the building of the tabernacle. And in these instructions God clearly asked for beauty to be present in the tabernacle. God commanded that art be constructed, not only in the Tabernacle but also in the Temple. There was no utilitarian purpose for some of the art in the Tabernacle and in the Temple, it is just that God is very interested in beauty. Also, God didn t say that the art had to be photogenic, God commanded that there be blue, purple, and scarlet pomegranates adorning the skirts of the priest. Purple and scarlet are natural colors of a pomegranate but blue is not. In other words art can be free, it is not constricted to actuality in nature. There are many other instances in which God commanded art in the Temple and in the Tabernacle. The art that has been discussed so far has all had to do with God, but there is also secular art, and that does not mean that it is wrong. There is secular art in the Bible, in 1 Kings 10 Solomon s throne is described. His throne is adorned with ivory and the finest gold, and with a total of 14 lions, as statues or real lions. This must have been a magnificent piece of secular art. For even more uses of art look at the serpent of brass. God used this piece of art in a very symbolic way. While the Israelites were wandering in the desert they started to complain and God sent fiery serpents among the people and many of them died. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Shirley climo has ventured to many places learning about different culture and writing classic tales through the story lenses of different cultures. Ruth Heller is a wonderful illustrator. All her drawings for the books she s illustrated are colorful and vibrant. She has also illustrated for a few of Shirley Climo s books besides this one. As a Native American it was hard, and still is, to feel as though you belonged in America. They struggle with high rates of suicide, are told they aren t going to be anything but and Indian, and some overcome. But why do they have to be put through it? From the time the first settlers arrived, Native Americans lost all control over their land; and, in the 19th century, when they gave all their land to the government, they were also promised health care benefits. In her autobiography, Yes Please, she talks about growing up acting. If someone wants to know more about the life of an actor, this nonfiction book contains a lot of relevant information; therefore, what really happens behind the scenes. Amy s novel contains some serious and empowering chapters of her life but also incorporates a lot of comedy. Overall, this book was intriguing and had many interesting stories about Amy during her career. In this novel, Amy shows how she is just like any other person. One reason this novel was so interesting was the amount of pictures and visual aides Amy expressed throughout the book. I really thought the pictures were detailed and added something extra to the book. There is a picture in the book that shows Amy in a school play when she was younger: she played Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. Amy s acting technique is very spontaneous. I could decide right then and there what the next moment would be. I could try something new. I could go off script and give something a shot. I could say whatever I wanted (Poehler 5). Amy felt comfortable with acting to where she thought she could do whatever she wanted. Upcoming actors can learn from this that being different is admired. I have done an extra semester in my math, I have also been on so many school trips that are all for school. 4There have been so many benefits for my family as well. We have all grown so much closer and we actually get to see each other. Another huge benefit, I have noticed, of being home schooled is, 5I don t have to worry about getting vulgar, ungodly, lessons that put down Christianity and God all day, every day and I don t have to deal with all the horrible vulgarity from students and teachers alike. I have grown in my faith, and knowledge; I have grown closer to God, family, and friends. I have gained so much knowledge about God and his word since starting home schooling in early September. In the play hamlet and ophelia are said to be in love or that Ophelia loves hamlet. Although people believe they are in love, Hamlet does not really act like he does love her. In the play, Hamlet has an unknown relationship with ophelia that could be fake; But there could be some reasoning behind the relationship and why he would be using her. Throughout the play Hamlet does not treat Ophelia well and sometimes even insults her. He had said many times Get thee to a nunnery (III.I). He would often say this throughout this conversation as another way to make her feel bad. That he was trying to hurt but still look as if he loved her to others. Also later when Ophelia talks about what happened she said He took me by the wrist and held me hard (II.I). That in the conversation between hamlet and Ophelia when Hamlet was not verbally hurting her, he would sometimes get physical. Hamlet would often use this as a way to show how insane he was getting. Also when Ophelia was talking to Polonius she said And thrice his head thus waving up and down (II.I). This is another example of when Hamlet do things to make himself seem more insane. • 16. Cut And Chip Test Testing Cut and Chip Test Ohio Northern University May, 2016 July, 2016 Background: Cut and chip is a phenomena in tires that manifests itself primarily from prolonged off road use. As the tires are used off road, the tread compound will be cut by rocks and eventually large pieces of the tread rubber are chipped off. Current tests involve manufacturing a series of test tires and sending them to a test track in Texas. The tires are then run on a controlled gravel road. Each set of tires is run for 1000 miles, 500 each day for two days. In each set of 500 miles, 100 miles are on flint rock and 400 miles are on the highway. The tires are then ranked visually by multiple engineers to determine which rubber compounds demonstrate the best cut and chip resistance. Thus, current testing is expensive, time intensive, and subjective. Students at Ohio Northern University therefore built a tester that can use a lab test for tread rubber compounds. Cooper will be able to save time and money by testing much fewer compounds with the road test. However, although this tester is a very successful design, the cut and chip lab test using this tester is a brand new idea that has never been done by any engineers, as we know. Therefore, a summer intern project was created to investigate the usage of the tester and the cut and chip lab test. The heat output of each diesohol was measured using calorimetric techniques, in order to collect data and support the hypothesis. As can be seen in Figure 1, the heat output of diesel and 5% hexanol was significantly higher than the blend of diesel and 5% ethanol, displaying synergistic effects. However, the diesel + octanol blend was an outlier, as it did not follow the trend of the data and increase in energy above the hexanol (dropped to 5.6 kJ/g instead of rising above 6.3 kJ/g). As seen in Figure 1, both butanol and octanol mixed with diesel and the pure alcohols had similar heat outputs, regardless of the length of their carbon chain length. Perhaps, due to the even chain length of butanol (4) and octanol (8). It follows the same structure as an Ancient Greek tragedy, where the main actor and in this case Eddie Carbone falls to a tragic and yet a predictable inflicted death. I will be explaining the difference in culture between America and Italy and how this could have affected the outcome of the play. The definition that society gives is controversial because, if an individual is not looked at as an adult until the age of eighteen, but can be tried in court at the age of sixteen and up. Societies definition falls apart at this point. Basically, what society is telling us that a person who is out in the world committing adult level crimes if this person is not at the age of eighteen and is not a fully developed person than that individual should not be tried as an adult in court but, they get tried in adult court anyways. The individual is not mature enough to be considered biologically ready for adulthood. To have the maturity level if an adult, a person needs to understand the difference from right and wrong, can defend themselves appropriately, cannot let things get to them to make them mad or over react. This is something that society really does not care about, if the person is biologically ready to be an adult. PTSD is a slept on thing that many people do not believe in. About 11 20 out of every 100 soldiers have to live with it. Some believe that a shin splint is a small tear of the muscle that s pulled off the bone. Some other theories about the exact problem that causes shin splints include: an inflammation of the periosteum or of the muscle. Shin splints are commonly encountered in runners or other athletes due to the high amount of strain placed on their legs.
