A Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor
First, the identification of a licensed chemical dependency counselor would suffice at the moment. A
licensed chemical dependency counselor are counselors that specialize in identifying and treating
addictive behaviors that are maladaptive, altered from cognitive imbalance, and from physiological
discrepancies, or frequent intoxication to achieve homeostasis or functionality to some extent. In other
words, licensed chemical dependency counselors establish and implement treatments to help people
cure their addictions from substances which they are chemically dependent on. Second, the nature of
chemical dependency is to be acknowledged. The nature of chemical dependency is not very well
understood by human population. Many people see addictions as diseases, immoral behaviors or sins,
as maladaptive behaviors, and some may view such substance dependence as out of control behaviors
as well. However, chemical or substance dependency is a mental issue. The mind tells the body that it
needs a certain substance to function, it is a craving that is difficult for the body to ignore, and the
body cannot function until such a need is met. The change in behaviors, mood and conscious
motivates the mind further to continue finding ways to meet this need. Therefore, there is not only an
addiction, but a chemical dependency issue as well. It is strong and difficult to defeat. It is strong
enough that it may cause some people to conduct criminal activities or infringe upon the rights and

Invisible Man Research Paper
Exile: the state of being barred from one s native country, typically for political or punitive reasons.
However, this dictionary definition fails to cover the true meaning of being exiled. Being exiled is
being forcibly removed by yourself or another from that which you identify with. Edward Said
describes exile as the unhealable rift forced between a human being and a native place, between the
self and its true home (Said 137). Exile is the experience, which may be unbelievably depressing for
some, while it may be enlightening for others. In addition, exile often comes in the form of self exile
the realization of this rift and determining your own fate. Stories, such as Into the Wild, exhibit
characters which feel a demand for change ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although it may have seems to his parents that life is going fantastically for the straight A student
athlete at Emory, it is actually the opposite. Chris doesn t see college as a fulfilling experience. From
the very beginning, internally, Chris seems to hate his family and most importantly his father. Chris
frequently travels out west and one time, discovers that his father has been leading a second life,
which makes him seriously question what parts of his life are actually real, ... made his entire
childhood seem like a faction. But he did not confront his parents with what he knew, then or ever. He
chose instead to make a secret of his dark knowledge and express his rage obliquely, in silence and
sullen withdrawal (Krakauer 123). This withdraw from both his family and society is ultimately what
motivates Chris to go on his journey. Sadness encapsulates his experience as a member of his family
and a student at Emory and the concept of escape is what allows him to discover his purpose not the
other way around as Said claims. He decides to reject all notions of belonging to a family; he becomes
a ghost, wandering and trying to find meaning through solitude. Eventually, near Anchorage, Chris is
able to cross a river, in order to reach an abandoned bus that he would soon call his home. It is in the

The Importance Of College Is A College Worth It
Every year, around 20.4 million students in the United States go to college. Most students enroll in
their college or university without thinking of a simple question. Is all the hard work worth it?
Personally, I have never given this question any serious consideration and the research I have done has
opened my eyes. I attend classes along with over 5,000 students here at UNK, and I doubt many have
had the opportunity to do the research and decide for themselves. As I began my research to answer
the question, I noticed something that stood out to me. There are many more articles that say college is
well worth it, than articles that say otherwise. I began with an article by Liz Weston of TIME. She
provided statements and research on both side but ultimately swayed towards saying that a bachelors
degree is worth more than a high school diploma. She situated the article based on The reduced
conviction among recent graduates is hardly surprising. Those grads emerged with more debt and
poorer employment prospects due to a struggling economy. As the debt gets paid off and their earnings
rise, they may have a change of heart . My parents told me growing up that they took college for
granted when they graduated, but as they got older they realized the importance. My father told me
recently that the company he works for tends to not hire people without college degrees because some
of the requirements for promotions to higher positions require a bachelors or even a masters in

The Negative Effect Of Alcohol
The negative effect of alcohol have been well documented and scientifically proven. The United
States National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism reports that 1,825 college students between
the ages of 18 and 24 die each year from alcohol related unintentional injuries. furthermore 599,000
students between the ages of 18 and 24 receive unintentional injuries while under the influence of
alcohol. These statistics show just how easy it is for young drinkers to abuse alcohol. Many young
drinkers are aware of such statistics. Despite that they continue to consume alcohol. Perhaps we ll
never be able to completely eliminate drinking from our society, historically there have been attempts
to ban alcohol in many countries, none of them ended successfully. In Lesson for a young drinker
written by Tom Chiarella and in proper credentials are needed to join a poem written by Charles
Bukowski, both authors choose to focus on those individuals who will drink no matter what studies or
the law say. Both writings have some things in common but they also have a lot in contrast. Both
writers claimed to know how alcohol is mastered. However Chiarella claims that alcohol is mastered
through observation and experimentation. Bukowski on the other hand claims to have mastered
alcohol over many years and by making countless of mistakes. When we take a closer look at the
authors backgrounds we can easily determine that Bukowski was never able to master alcohol
therefore his poem is not

John Milton s Paradise Lost
A few years prior to writing Paradise Lost, John Milton lost his vision. In fact, Milton does not hide
the reality that his eyes, that roll in vain...find no dawn (Paradise Lost, 3.22 23). The light that Milton
refers to, however, is not just physical, but it is also spiritual. There is a third type of blindness that
Milton addresses, blindness from knowledge. Milton is concerned with this form of blindness in a
number of works, perhaps most notably Areopagitica. The acquisition of knowledge plays a vital role
in Paradise Lost: the fall of Adam and Even relies on their attainment of knowledge; the decision to
eat the fruit is blasphemous because Adam and Eve know that it is forbidden to them; Adam embarks
on an educational mission as he asks Raphael questions in an attempt to gain more knowledge about
the world around him. However, not all knowledge can be attained by Adam and Eve, which
complicates the justice of the fall. As John Milton explores the nature of knowledge in Paradise Lost,
the validity and visibility of this knowledge lead Adam and Eve to an unjust fall. With the exception of
God, knowledge is limited for all the characters in the text. When Adam asks Raphael a number of
questions concerning his creation and his duties towards God, Raphael readily answers. However,
when Adam inquiries about the cosmological universe, Raphael provides an answer but quickly
reminds Adam that this knowledge from Man or Angel the great Architect/Did wisely to conceal, and

Difference Between Real And Fake Friendships
Compare and Contrast Paper It takes time for me to consider someone to be my friend. I am a very
friendly person and I like to meet new people but just because I talk to you doesn t mean that we re
friends. I could very well like you and still won t call you my friend. I wasn t born this way but i ve
been in many crazy situations and it took some time for me to distinguish between real and fake
friendships. I don t call someone my friend until I feel like we have bond we can communicate, and I
trust them. It all starts with having the same interests as someone. I probably wouldn t be friends with
someone who is into art museums and classical music. Or someone who is a homebody and doesn t

Comparing Guernica And The Executions Of The Third Of May
Critical Thinking: Guernica and the Executions of the Third of May
Comparing and contrasting the two paintings, Guernica created by Pablo Picasso and Executions of
the Third of May created by Franciso de Goya show some similarities between the paintings. The time
period of which they were created is rather different. With Guernica being painted in 1937 and
Executions of the Third of May being painted in 1808, one would argue that there could never be any
similarities. Although they were created in such different times, they share some of the same
meanings. Both exhibit sadness and destruction from a superior. It is clear in both paintings that the
people have been exhausted and have fought till the death. Although they have similar meaning they

The painting was 11 x 25 feet. Picasso, a Spaniard himself, was commissioned by the Spanish
government to paint a mural for the Spanish Pavilion of the Paris World s Fair in 1937. Picasso put off
painting the mural for the government when he learned of a bombing in Guernica, Spain. German
Nazis bombed the country village Guernica in Spain in1937. The Germans did not drop the bombs for
military engagement; they did it for a test. The Germans needed to see how efficient their bombs were,
and if they could take out whole towns. Unfortunately, the Nazis were successful. Picasso decided to
paint the mural in honor of those who were killed in Guernica. Picasso chose to keep the painting in
white and grey. In the painting, Picasso has animals and people. The people are in distress and
fighting. For example a man is holding a sword in his hand obviously exhausted and a mother is
holding her child in her arms in complete distress. The animals are in overwhelmed, and a buffalo is

The Eyes Have It By Philip K Dick
ENGL 1405 WORLD LITERATURE WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT UNIT4
Introduction:
The story background,
I have read the science fiction Name called The Eyes Have it which was published 1953. This fiction
was written by Philip K. Dick. The narrator discusses his discovery of an invasion of Earth. Which I
am mostly focusing on the narrator, the main point of views if I can change differently and literally by
connecting into our real life. It s clearly teaching me a lot and give me an opportunity for analysis.
Based on the narrator s common ground perception I would change this short story directly into the
current human value of existence. I would first change the Eyes Have it into my own interpretation

Museums and Photographs in the Open-Air
The shot shows a male figure viewing photographs. We see the person from the rear, look over his
shoulder, past him, as he passes along the collection of images, and at the same time we look into
some of the faces that are visible in the photos and which seem to be looking at us outside of the
picture frame rather than at the person in the picture viewing them. We are dealing here with black and
white photographs from the late 1920s, which, among others, were taken by the German
anthropologist and racial theorist Egon von Eickstedt between 1926 and 1929.1 A selection of these
pictures, created in connection with research into the indigenous population of India listed under the
generic term Adivasi and this should be stressed first without explicit reference to the problematic race
theory based history of its origins, was brought back to India in 2012. Accompanied by a team of
ethnologists from Germany and England, the photographs were exhibited in Tejgadh, in the state of
Gujarat in northwest India, in different locations: in the still young Museum of Voice of the Adivasi
Academy, in individual private houses in the neighbouring villages and in a consecrated place in the
open air, reserved for rituals. This latter mentioned setting has been recorded in the above mentioned
photo. Mounted on brown card, the photographs hang in long lines, three rows above one another on a
movable wattle wall, which flanks the place of encounter in the outside space. A presentational

The Importance Of Criminal Punishment
Criminal punishments have been a fragment of society for centuries, either to discipline individuals or
overpower political opposition. Different eras over time established numerous forms of punishments
for crimes. There is no morality or exceptional guarantee that punishment is a substantial process of
humane penalty besides political officials that believe that it is feasible. In my opinion, punishment is
not a proper method of crime control, however, some sanctions should be attainable in current day
living. Courtroom officials portray punishments as desirable methods of crime control to distort
community citizens perception, so they may trust that crimes are decreasing. Criminal punishments
are solely based on rehabilitation, criminal analysis, and deterrence. Numerous theories of punishment
have become inhumane because sometimes individuals have been incarcerated for years for crimes
that weren t even harsh.
Deterrence is designed to prevent reoccurring crime. Criminal justice is the study of nature, causes,
control, and prevention of criminal behavior, with the extent of individual and social factors. For
example, if a criminal has been burglarizing homes and only spends a short amount of time in jail,
then the judge requires for a higher sentence and now the criminal must think if they re freedom is
worth materialistic things. In 1910, Edmond Locard began his own crime laboratory and could obtain
location accompanied by two assistants in the making of

2003), the Appellate Court held that evidence supported a finding that a husband s sole intent in
transferring residence into tenancy by the entirety was to avoid paying debts existing at time of
transfer. In LaSalle Bank, the appellate court affirmed a judgment against the husband in September 3,
1999. Id. at 281. The husband transferred the property from him and his wife in joint tenancy to a
tenancy by the entirety on September 20, 1999. Id.
The Appellate Court reasoned that the Trial Court s finding that the husband transferred the property
to tenancy by the entirety solely to avoid a judgment creditor was not against the manifest weight of
the evidence because 1) the husband owned less than $4,000 of assets at the time he transferred the
property into tenancy by the entirety,
2) the husband didn t make the transfer around 1998 when he was advised to do so by a family
attorney in order to protect the estate and make the transfer easier upon his death, since his assets were
tied up in the business,
3) the husband did not own the residence individually or as a tenant in common with his wife, in
which case there may have been a legitimate reason to transfer the property to tenancy by the entirety
other than to avoid a judgment debt.
3) the husband made the transfer to tenancy by the entirety at a time when to not make such a transfer
would have rendered him insolvent, and
4) the transfer was made within days after the Appellate

According to the theory observed by the researchers, the criminal justice system not only has
emphasized the interests of the offenders but has put the victims secondary to those offenders.
Individuals can experience many types of victimizations which include domestic violence, theft, and
child abuse. The perception of the masses in our society about these crimes and others are not always
valid or accurate. The perceptions that are driven by those of the media include myths about certain
crimes and the distinguishing characteristics of some of those that have been victimized. Some
examples of these perceptions that are held by our society are people are to blame for their own
victimizations, they might deserve this kind of treatment because of who they are or where they live
and lastly, individuals usually recover from being victimized rather quickly. These perceptions are to
blame for negative reactions that victims receive from the public and the criminal justice system. I
think due to shows like America s Most Wanted has really curbed society s perceptions of victims and
criminals. These types of shows have diminished the stereotypical mentality that has existed here in
America for centuries and that is people are not to blame for being victimized because of their status

During electrolysis, oxidation and reduction takes place. Positively charged ions move to the negative

Characteristics Of The Anzac Legend
Australians fought in many wars, but the most successful war was thought to be the war to end all
wars (World War One). The Anzacs had experienced many hardships in this horrific war; special
qualities were developed throughout the war such as endurance, mateship and courage. On the 25th of
April the birth of the Anzac legend had risen. As they charged into enemy territories, in the early
morning of the 1900s, they were destined to succeed despite the raining gun fire by the Turkish
soldiers. Mateship, courage and endurance gradually strengthened deeper into the war; as a result, no
one could take away these three imperishable qualities. Many historical records show many different
perspectives about the Anzac legend. As a nation, we look upon three main attributes that the Anzacs
had demonstrated courage, mateship and endurance. Therefore, the Anzac legacy continues to prosper
in its purpose to motivate the modern Australian society. As the war progressed, Australian troops
made trenches; this protected them from gunfire. On the other hand diseases were introduced such as
the trench foot. Having a trench foot was painful, swollen conditions caused by feet remaining wet for
too long; if gangrene (progress) set in, the feet would have to be amputated (Darlington, 2012). This
shows determination, which the Anzac possessed regardless of the dangers that may happen. These
hard conditions that the Anzacs had faced are also reflected in an extract from Eric Rapkins s Dairy.

Similarly in The Kite Runner, Amir struggles to find a connection with his father, Baba. According to
Amir, their bond was a fundamental basis of their lives, however when describing Baba, he claims he
is a force of nature, using a metaphor to not only place Baba as a superior character, but leaving room
for sympathy for Amir as he, like Raimond, feels a distant sense of connection to the world of his

games that he, whilst full of regret, participated in, just to try and feel that sense of belonging he was
hoping for. Amir would pretend to enjoy soccer even though he was hopeless and his scraggy legs

He and his family purchase a home from a crooked real estate agent and quickly fall into financial
turmoil. These resulting effects lead to Jurgis incarceration and his wife and child s untimely death.
The following years of Jurgis life are spent recovering emotionally, financially, and physically.
Eventually, Jurgis turns to a life of crime in the streets of Chicago until he stumbles into a meeting of
the Socialist party that, ultimately, sets him on the path of healing and provides him the ability to both
cope with the atrocities he s faced in the past and wage a personal war on American Capitalism. Using
this novel as his spear, Sinclair makes a valiant effort at slaying the beast that is big business in
America. His detailed descriptions of the outrages that occur throughout the meat packing industry
both enraged society and lead to the reform of the industry standards. Sinclair s focus on a Socialist

My Reality Check Essay
My Reality Check
Two things didn t mix well in my life. One was being a full time student and the other an athlete.
It was great not having parents around telling you to do your homework or to go to class, of which I
never did. I had a choice, which was more important, playing lacrosse or studying. Like any first year
college student I picked lacrosse. At that point I didn t realize what I was getting myself into. Who at
that age would know either?
My worst nightmare came true in the summer of 1989. I was academically dismissed from the
university. I thought to myself no way, this could never happen to me, I played lacrosse, had a
girlfriend, and I was popular, how could this have happened . The worst part of the whole ... Show

This proved to be beneficial, for I received a 3.67 grade point average for that semester. That spring
was just as good, that year my grade point average was a 3.46. I was happy, and so were my parents. I
proceeded to reapply back to my former university and was accepted. I gradated with over a 3.0 in my
major and was offered a job in Washington D.C.
Being dismissed from college was one experience that I have never regretted and never will. I can see
why this happened; I was a student athlete, which doesn t mix. Being an athlete in college I had to
practice Monday through Saturday, I was always tired, too tired to study and go to class. I did learn a
couple things though, sportsmanship, self discipline, teamwork, cooperation, and concentration. Too
bad none of these attributes rubbed off on my schooling. The university said that they would help me
out with my schoolwork but that was just a lie, one in which they still use today. The school put me
into these easy classes which didn t teach me anything except how to fall asleep in class. The
university was only worried about winning games and being nationally recognized. They didn t help
me when I was doing poorly and even after I was dismissed.
After being dismissed I realized a few things, one that the university only cared about my money,
another was that everything I did I did for someone else, and that I was accomplishing

the beginning, the middle, and the end. Use Times New Roman Size 12 font.
In Paper Towns by John Green, I read about the life of a few high school seniors last months of high
school. Quentin Jacobsen and Margo Roth Spiegelman have been childhood friends forever because
they are next door neighbors. They were neighbors since the age of two. As they entered high school
their friendship dwindled down. They still acknowledged one another, but they did not hang out
together. Margo Roth Spiegelman was friends with some of the most popular people at school. Their
names were Lacey Pemberton and Jase. Margo s plan after high school was to attend Florida State
University s honors program. Quentin Jacobsen on the other hand was friends with people that were
not so well known. Quentin Jacobsen grew up in a nice family that consisted of his mother, father, and
Quentin. Both of his parents were psychologists. Quentin planned on attending Duke University after
his high school career. His friends were Marcus Lincoln and Ben Starling. His friends were all in
band, not including Quentin. All of his friends enjoyed hanging out with one another in the band room
all of the time, which is the reason that they were not well known by many of their fellow classmates.
One day Margo snuck into Quentin s house at night and asked him to help her get revenge on her
friends. Margo entered Quentin s room through his window from her window. She did this so she
would not get into trouble for sneaking out by her parents or Quentin s. The reason why she asked
Quentin for help after so many years of not talking to him was because she could not take her parent s
car. Margo s parents had her car keys locked in a safe. She also knew that Quentin would probably
have access to using his mother s car. Margo wanted to get revenge on her friends because she was
really upset that her friends were mean to her. Margo also did not like the character of her

Mein Kampf, By Adolf Hitler
Mein Kampf is a outrageous book written by Adolf Hitler. The title Mein Kampf in Germany means
my struggle and was published in the summer of 1925, followed by his second version in 1927. Mein
Kampf was written while he was imprisoned. Four and a Half Years of Struggle against Lies, Stupidity
and Cowardice was Hitlers orignally title that he chose. His publisher thought it would have been
better to give it a shorter title. Hitler talked about his life and gave ideas of how he would run
Germany. He portrayed the Germans as being the superior race (blue eyes, pale complexioned skin
and blond hair) over all the other races. Hitler refers to the German people as an Aryan or the master
race. In the book, he categorized people based on their physical appearance. Hitler s book revealed his
hatred against the Jews and the Bolsheviks. Hitler s The Mein Kampf was like some kind of Bible that
the Nazis took as a guide. It basically told them everything that they would do. Before he wrote the
Mein Kampf, he was the head of the Nazi political party in the German Government of 1923. He was
known as The Fuhrer or leader. Letting people know about his racial hatred, he wasn t shy at all. He
spread information along with his disrespect for Democracy. Hitler drove the Beer Hall Putsch in
Munich against the Postwar Weimar Republic, pronouncing himself Chancellor of another
authorisation organization. Without the support of the military the Putsch failed. As a leader of it all,

Should the U.S. build a National Missile Defense System?
What if free people could live secure in the knowledge that their security didn t depend upon the threat
of instant U.S. retaliation to deter an enemy attack?
Ronald Reagan; 1983
In his speech of March 23, 1983, President Reagan presented his vision of a future where a Nation s
security did not rest upon the threat of nuclear retaliation, but on the ability to protect and defend
against such attacks. The Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) research program was designed to tell
whether, and how, advanced defense technologies could contribute to the feasibility of this vision.

It consists of a collection of sensor satellites that would obtain and track the missiles during their
trajectory path, giving the BMC2 the earliest trajectory estimate.
The third element is called the In flight Interceptor Communications System. This is the strategically
located ground system that links to the GBI for in flight targeting. Up to seven pairs of these stations
would be created. The next part, X band/Ground Based Radar, performs tracking, discrimination, and
kill assessments of incoming missiles, providing real time continuous tracking data to the BMC2. The
final part of the missile defense system is the Upgraded Early Warning Radar. These are phased array
surveillance radars, used to detect and track the ballistic missiles. By upgrading the software of
existing early warning radars, they would meet the missile defense requirements.
It has been said that the Missile Defense System is like shooting a bullet down with a bullet This leads
one to believe that it cannot be done. If you can imagine a gun firing a bullet out of it heading up into
the air, than someone else firing a gun into the air trying to hit the first bullet that just fired than you
have just pictured what happens in a ground based inception system. Also, many people question the
effectiveness of the system. If the system proves to be ineffective, then the billions of dollars that was
spent on it are wasted. These are real concerns that many people have and in the past may have

Colonization Of Native American Education
Colonization was detrimental to not only the physical bodies of the Native Americans, but to their
minds as well. The shift in indigenous education was a destructive one; Western education completely
overtook the indigenous education that had thrived for generations. Instead of allowing education to
benefit both indigenous and European peoples, it was used as a tool to destroy indigenous culture.
When the settlers from Europe and Spain first came to the Americas, indigenous men and women
articulated their petitions for more educational spaces (DĂaz 60). The attempt to share educational
spaces was continuously rejected by the settlers in an attempt to spur assimilation instead of
cooperation. Educational spaces were slowly transitioning to becoming ... Show more content on

Europeans had different ideologies than indigenous peoples when it came to land in terms of who
could own the land. As a result of European entitlement, they assumed that the land was available to
be taken. The process of removing indigenous people from their land began, and the settlers were
justifying it by suggesting that is was not necessarily stealing land, but rather it was saving the land
from being misused by the savages that lived there previously (Sahlins 19). Mindsets such as these
finalized the traumatic process of Native American invisibility as they were forced out of their land
and their homes. As a direct result of the stealing of indigenous land, racism began to influence other
decisions that the colonizers were making. The settlers began to spread the idea that they were more
intelligent and more capable of building a society than the Native Americans were. This mindset and
many others were used to justify things such as stealing the land from ocean to ocean, as well as
disrespecting many treaties and even slaughtering Native Americans to make them move off of their

Comparing The Tempest And Yojiro Takita s Departures
A comparative study of Shakespeare s play, The Tempest and Yojiro Takita s film, Departures
reinforce the concept that an individual s competency to recognise the connotations of foreign
contexts, leaves lasting impacts on their perspectives of the world and those around them. Both
composers incorporate the vital idea that characters confrontation with morality induces developments
of change and subsequently reflect integral actions of compassion. The Tempest sets the discourse of
an abortive revenge drama that focuses on Prospero and his outlook on humanity through the art of

Takita emphasises the flaws of the human condition through Daigo as he starts his first day working
with a rotting corpse. Medium shots are employed to highlight Daigo s body language where he forces
himself to close his eyes and tries to stray away from the body. Such techniques strongly suggest
distaste and disturbance as systematic responses whilst illustrating the extent of which the impacts of
discovery can be provocative in confronting world values. Takita s manipulations with camera work
effectively triggers automatic disfigured expressions in the audience, reminding them of their
weaknesses whilst encouraging consideration for actions in response. This perspective of weakness
and violation is further emphasised with the utilising of close shots where it captures Daigo washing
himself like someone who has a cleaning disorder. Daigo s sense of affliction fully encompasses the
concept confrontation instigates a process of emotional discovery as inevitable actions for attempts to
accept universal truths of weakness and the inevitability of death. Thus positioning us to view such
conflicts with sympathy as while securing in emotional troubles, consider confrontations to be a vessel

Just War and Pacifism Essay
The question Can war be justified? plagued mankind since the first war. The Just War Theory holds
that war can be just. The theory has evolved for thousands of years and modern theorists, such as
Michael Walzer, author of Just and Unjust Wars, puts forth criteria for a just war, such as jus ad bellum
and jus in bello. Jus ad bellum includes reasons for going to war, and jus in bello deals with the people
who wage war. The criteria in jus ad bellum include; just cause, declaration by a proper authority, right
intention, a reasonable chance of success, the end proportional to the means, and war as a last resort.
Jus in bello includes keeping innocents outside the field of war, and limiting the amount of force used.

In Locke s State of nature the government s primary objective is to protect individuals. For example, if
one was in a state of nature and a gang of savages attacked him or her, he or she would do anything
necessary to defend themselves. They would then form a group with a common objective of
protection. With life now insured, the group can pursue liberty, happiness and estate. Just War
Theorists claim the governments of today are essentially the same, only on a larger scale.
Walzer and other Just War Theorists hold that self defense justifies pre emptive strikes. If an outside
force is obviously endangering a state, it is then justifiable to stop the attack before it happens. Pre
emptive strikes can prevent a future war that has worse effects. Walzer has what he calls a general
formula for a just pre emptive strike, States may use military force in the face of threats of war,
wherever the failure to do so would seriously risk their territorial integrity and political independence
(87). Walzer uses an example to justify his general formula of a justifiable pre emptive strike. He
claims that the Six Day War in 1967 was indeed a just pre emptive attack on Egypt by Israel. Israel
was under real threat because Egyptian President Nasser massed an army and was positioning for
attack, while simultaneously closing the Straits of Tiran to Israel, and publicizing his goal to destroy
Israel. Israel went

Fine Arts Should Be Cut In Schools Essay
Greek philosopher Aristotle defines the arts ¨as the realization in external form of a true idea, and is
traced back to that natural love of imitation which characterizes humans, and to the pleasure which we
feel in recognizing likenesses.¨(IEP). The fine arts which have been a part of human history for 30,000
years have played an essential role in the development and advancement of our societies. As of today,
the fine arts are facing the danger of vanishing in the education system of the United States Schools in
places like Minnesota, Michigan and Philadelphia struggle to obtain arts programs within their

Labor relations lawyer and writer for the National Federation of State High School Association, Dave
Dickson, answers this in his article ¨Fine Arts Should be Spared from School¨ Districts´ Budget Cuts.
He states that the main rationale for cutting arts programs for students K 12 is a result of budget cuts:
¨When cutting programs, superintendents strive to cut those that have the least impact to learning and
that create the least amount of controversy. Wrongly, superintendents often recommend cutting some
of the fine arts programs.¨ Programs which strive to keep students from delinquent behaviors, and
offer life skills that the traditional curriculum fails to do are being cut as a result of school boards
deeming them unnecessary. He continues to say, ¨School boards must analyze very carefully the long
term ramifications of eliminating the fine arts programs. A school district without the arts leaves many
students without an outlet for the creative capabilities and without options for expression of their
talents.¨ (Dickson). School Districts tend to cut the arts without fully analyzing the repercussions that
come with cutting them. Overlooking students who need attention the most and cutting programs that
enable them to search who they are as people, giving them individuality in a system that doesn t.
Parents in Chicago rely on after school programs to ensure their children s safety and wellbeing.
Rachel Norwood, the mother of Justice Watkins 10, exclaims her gratification of programs like the
arts. It not only keeps Justice out of the streets and away from danger, they offer him a place to be
himself and explore who he is as a grown adult. (Flores). Removing programs like the arts from the

Symbolism in The Hunger Games
When reading The Hunger Games, one might not read and think deeply enough about something like
symbolism. Looking into it, however, the characters in this novel by Suzanne Collins seem to be
named after historical figures, words that are descriptive of their characters, and even plants. Realizing
this really makes reading the novel much more interesting, because now the reader has something or
someone to compare each of the main or supporting characters to. The Hunger Games makes relates
many of the characters to historical figures. Many of the male figures seem to be named after Roman
politicians, philosophers, and poets. Take Cinna, for instance. Cinna, in the novel, is Katniss and Peeta
s stylists for the Games. He does their makeup and creates their outfits to wear for the opening
ceremony, for the interview with Caesar Flickerman, and for in the arena. His artistic skills relate to
that of Gaius Helvius Cinna, a Roman poet. He also resembles to Lucius Cornelius Cinna, although
more so later in the sequel, Catching Fire, because they are both defiant. Cinna, for turning the
wedding dress President Snow wanted Katniss to dress in for her interview with Caesar Flickerman
into a mockingjay, which turned into a symbol of rebellion, and Lucius Cornelius Cinna for staging a
rebellion. What really ties it all together is that Cinna, Lucius Cornelius Cinna, and Gaius Helvius
Cinna all met their demise by murder. Caesar Flickerman is also a prime example of relating to a

The Role Of Tattoo Lack In Pop Culture
It is amazing how big a role tattoo ink plays in the whole pop culture scene. The artist would still be
an artist but his or her work would lack the permanency that the ink provides. Colors, shapes and

is there for the world to see. There is more to ink than what most people realize.
Tattoo ink is produced through a chemical process. It is comprised of a pigment or dye that is mixed

The Holiday s of Suriname
Suriname is a small country located on the northern coast of South America. The people of Suriname
take their holidays and other celebrations very seriously. Suriname celebrates many of the same
holidays as the rest of the world, but also celebrates many of their own holidays. Phagwah Day is a
very popular Hindu holiday, celebrated in Suriname. This holiday is celebrated on the last full moon of
the lunar month, known as Phalguna. Phalguna is the twelfth month on the Hindu calendar, the same
calendar that governs the Hindu religious life. Phagwah Day is celebrated all over the country at
festivals and parties. Phagwah Day marks the beginning of spring in Suriname, and is known in
Suriname as the festival of color. The people, who go the Phagwah festivals, wear the color white to
show that they are ready to celebrate and get dirty. Today, Hinduism is one of the main religions in
Suriname, and at one point was the most common religion. This may be a key factor in why Phagwah
Day is so popular in Suriname. Although Phagwah Day is a very popular holiday, the people of
Suriname celebrate even larger holidays. Boxing Day is the holiday that is celebrated the day after
Christmas by the adults in Suriname. Boxing Day is a holiday in which the employees of a company
are given the day off and receive a gift from their boss. Boxing Day is celebrated in many of the
commonwealth countries around the world. Boxing Day is said to be a European holiday that dated

Digital Pedagogy Essay
Currently we live in an era driven by information, global competition and new technologies that are
changing the way we think, live and work. (Pillay, Boulton Lewis Wilss 2004, p.17). This conveys the
notion that technology has manipulated the minds of today s generation in every way possible, could
be during schooling and non schooling life. Hence in order for one s teaching style to go successful
one should teach in accordance to the characteristics of the generation they re teaching as today s
generation requires a digital pedagogy. Furthermore this essay scrutinizes how the characteristics of
the 21st century and the digital world will influence the type of teacher one hopes to become. As well
as it examines on the construction of skill development towards students from the trending of digital

Technology today is the fundamental enhancement of teaching and education towards students
including collaborative learning. Many educators would approve that a vigorous display of student
triumph is the students ability to advance both skills and an interest in durable education. A teacher s
style of teaching regarding educational experience and environment could have a vast effect on their

  • 2. A Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor First, the identification of a licensed chemical dependency counselor would suffice at the moment. A licensed chemical dependency counselor are counselors that specialize in identifying and treating addictive behaviors that are maladaptive, altered from cognitive imbalance, and from physiological discrepancies, or frequent intoxication to achieve homeostasis or functionality to some extent. In other words, licensed chemical dependency counselors establish and implement treatments to help people cure their addictions from substances which they are chemically dependent on. Second, the nature of chemical dependency is to be acknowledged. The nature of chemical dependency is not very well understood by human population. Many people see addictions as diseases, immoral behaviors or sins, as maladaptive behaviors, and some may view such substance dependence as out of control behaviors as well. However, chemical or substance dependency is a mental issue. The mind tells the body that it needs a certain substance to function, it is a craving that is difficult for the body to ignore, and the body cannot function until such a need is met. The change in behaviors, mood and conscious motivates the mind further to continue finding ways to meet this need. Therefore, there is not only an addiction, but a chemical dependency issue as well. It is strong and difficult to defeat. It is strong enough that it may cause some people to conduct criminal activities or infringe upon the rights and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Invisible Man Research Paper Exile: the state of being barred from one s native country, typically for political or punitive reasons. However, this dictionary definition fails to cover the true meaning of being exiled. Being exiled is being forcibly removed by yourself or another from that which you identify with. Edward Said describes exile as the unhealable rift forced between a human being and a native place, between the self and its true home (Said 137). Exile is the experience, which may be unbelievably depressing for some, while it may be enlightening for others. In addition, exile often comes in the form of self exile the realization of this rift and determining your own fate. Stories, such as Into the Wild, exhibit characters which feel a demand for change ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although it may have seems to his parents that life is going fantastically for the straight A student athlete at Emory, it is actually the opposite. Chris doesn t see college as a fulfilling experience. From the very beginning, internally, Chris seems to hate his family and most importantly his father. Chris frequently travels out west and one time, discovers that his father has been leading a second life, which makes him seriously question what parts of his life are actually real, ... made his entire childhood seem like a faction. But he did not confront his parents with what he knew, then or ever. He chose instead to make a secret of his dark knowledge and express his rage obliquely, in silence and sullen withdrawal (Krakauer 123). This withdraw from both his family and society is ultimately what motivates Chris to go on his journey. Sadness encapsulates his experience as a member of his family and a student at Emory and the concept of escape is what allows him to discover his purpose not the other way around as Said claims. He decides to reject all notions of belonging to a family; he becomes a ghost, wandering and trying to find meaning through solitude. Eventually, near Anchorage, Chris is able to cross a river, in order to reach an abandoned bus that he would soon call his home. It is in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Importance Of College Is A College Worth It Every year, around 20.4 million students in the United States go to college. Most students enroll in their college or university without thinking of a simple question. Is all the hard work worth it? Personally, I have never given this question any serious consideration and the research I have done has opened my eyes. I attend classes along with over 5,000 students here at UNK, and I doubt many have had the opportunity to do the research and decide for themselves. As I began my research to answer the question, I noticed something that stood out to me. There are many more articles that say college is well worth it, than articles that say otherwise. I began with an article by Liz Weston of TIME. She provided statements and research on both side but ultimately swayed towards saying that a bachelors degree is worth more than a high school diploma. She situated the article based on The reduced conviction among recent graduates is hardly surprising. Those grads emerged with more debt and poorer employment prospects due to a struggling economy. As the debt gets paid off and their earnings rise, they may have a change of heart . My parents told me growing up that they took college for granted when they graduated, but as they got older they realized the importance. My father told me recently that the company he works for tends to not hire people without college degrees because some of the requirements for promotions to higher positions require a bachelors or even a masters in ... • 5. The Negative Effect Of Alcohol The negative effect of alcohol have been well documented and scientifically proven. The United States National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism reports that 1,825 college students between the ages of 18 and 24 die each year from alcohol related unintentional injuries. furthermore 599,000 students between the ages of 18 and 24 receive unintentional injuries while under the influence of alcohol. These statistics show just how easy it is for young drinkers to abuse alcohol. Many young drinkers are aware of such statistics. Despite that they continue to consume alcohol. Perhaps we ll never be able to completely eliminate drinking from our society, historically there have been attempts to ban alcohol in many countries, none of them ended successfully. In Lesson for a young drinker written by Tom Chiarella and in proper credentials are needed to join a poem written by Charles Bukowski, both authors choose to focus on those individuals who will drink no matter what studies or the law say. Both writings have some things in common but they also have a lot in contrast. Both writers claimed to know how alcohol is mastered. However Chiarella claims that alcohol is mastered through observation and experimentation. Bukowski on the other hand claims to have mastered alcohol over many years and by making countless of mistakes. When we take a closer look at the authors backgrounds we can easily determine that Bukowski was never able to master alcohol therefore his poem is not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. John Milton s Paradise Lost A few years prior to writing Paradise Lost, John Milton lost his vision. In fact, Milton does not hide the reality that his eyes, that roll in vain...find no dawn (Paradise Lost, 3.22 23). The light that Milton refers to, however, is not just physical, but it is also spiritual. There is a third type of blindness that Milton addresses, blindness from knowledge. Milton is concerned with this form of blindness in a number of works, perhaps most notably Areopagitica. The acquisition of knowledge plays a vital role in Paradise Lost: the fall of Adam and Even relies on their attainment of knowledge; the decision to eat the fruit is blasphemous because Adam and Eve know that it is forbidden to them; Adam embarks on an educational mission as he asks Raphael questions in an attempt to gain more knowledge about the world around him. However, not all knowledge can be attained by Adam and Eve, which complicates the justice of the fall. As John Milton explores the nature of knowledge in Paradise Lost, the validity and visibility of this knowledge lead Adam and Eve to an unjust fall. With the exception of God, knowledge is limited for all the characters in the text. When Adam asks Raphael a number of questions concerning his creation and his duties towards God, Raphael readily answers. However, when Adam inquiries about the cosmological universe, Raphael provides an answer but quickly reminds Adam that this knowledge from Man or Angel the great Architect/Did wisely to conceal, and not ... • 7. Difference Between Real And Fake Friendships Compare and Contrast Paper It takes time for me to consider someone to be my friend. I am a very friendly person and I like to meet new people but just because I talk to you doesn t mean that we re friends. I could very well like you and still won t call you my friend. I wasn t born this way but i ve been in many crazy situations and it took some time for me to distinguish between real and fake friendships. I don t call someone my friend until I feel like we have bond we can communicate, and I trust them. It all starts with having the same interests as someone. I probably wouldn t be friends with someone who is into art museums and classical music. Or someone who is a homebody and doesn t talk. A personality and attitude will show you if ... Tameka is ambitious, full of personality, attitude, loves to dance and likes to kick it with her friends. She worried a lot but she had big plans for her future and family. This book showcases many different themes like love, loneliness and friendships. Tameka, the protagonist of Step Up by Monica Mckayhan and I are alike in many ways.We both share the same view of the world, are viewed by the world in similar ways and I would respond in a comparable way to the central conflict of the novel. Therefore, I believe given the chance, we could be friends. Everyone loves Tameka. She was a star on the dance team, got good grades and dated the star basketball player on the high school basketball team. She is also pretty. She is brown skinned, has long hair and she likes to be girly. One of her best features was her smile. On page 111, she sat on the front porch with her friend Sean, he gave her a compliment stating that the moon was almost as beautiful as her smile. • 8. Comparing Guernica And The Executions Of The Third Of May Critical Thinking: Guernica and the Executions of the Third of May Comparing and contrasting the two paintings, Guernica created by Pablo Picasso and Executions of the Third of May created by Franciso de Goya show some similarities between the paintings. The time period of which they were created is rather different. With Guernica being painted in 1937 and Executions of the Third of May being painted in 1808, one would argue that there could never be any similarities. Although they were created in such different times, they share some of the same meanings. Both exhibit sadness and destruction from a superior. It is clear in both paintings that the people have been exhausted and have fought till the death. Although they have similar meaning they do not share ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The painting was 11 x 25 feet. Picasso, a Spaniard himself, was commissioned by the Spanish government to paint a mural for the Spanish Pavilion of the Paris World s Fair in 1937. Picasso put off painting the mural for the government when he learned of a bombing in Guernica, Spain. German Nazis bombed the country village Guernica in Spain in1937. The Germans did not drop the bombs for military engagement; they did it for a test. The Germans needed to see how efficient their bombs were, and if they could take out whole towns. Unfortunately, the Nazis were successful. Picasso decided to paint the mural in honor of those who were killed in Guernica. Picasso chose to keep the painting in white and grey. • 11. The Importance Of Criminal Punishment Criminal punishments have been a fragment of society for centuries, either to discipline individuals or overpower political opposition. Different eras over time established numerous forms of punishments for crimes. There is no morality or exceptional guarantee that punishment is a substantial process of humane penalty besides political officials that believe that it is feasible. In my opinion, punishment is not a proper method of crime control, however, some sanctions should be attainable in current day living. Courtroom officials portray punishments as desirable methods of crime control to distort community citizens perception, so they may trust that crimes are decreasing. Criminal punishments are solely based on rehabilitation, criminal analysis, and deterrence. Numerous theories of punishment have become inhumane because sometimes individuals have been incarcerated for years for crimes that weren t even harsh. Deterrence is designed to prevent reoccurring crime. Criminal justice is the study of nature, causes, control, and prevention of criminal behavior, with the extent of individual and social factors. For example, if a criminal has been burglarizing homes and only spends a short amount of time in jail, then the judge requires for a higher sentence and now the criminal must think if they re freedom is worth materialistic things. The Anzacs had experienced many hardships in this horrific war; special qualities were developed throughout the war such as endurance, mateship and courage. On the 25th of April the birth of the Anzac legend had risen. As they charged into enemy territories, in the early morning of the 1900s, they were destined to succeed despite the raining gun fire by the Turkish soldiers. Mateship, courage and endurance gradually strengthened deeper into the war; as a result, no one could take away these three imperishable qualities. Many historical records show many different perspectives about the Anzac legend. As a nation, we look upon three main attributes that the Anzacs had demonstrated courage, mateship and endurance. Therefore, the Anzac legacy continues to prosper in its purpose to motivate the modern Australian society. As the war progressed, Australian troops made trenches; this protected them from gunfire. As a direct result of the stealing of indigenous land, racism began to influence other decisions that the colonizers were making. The settlers began to spread the idea that they were more intelligent and more capable of building a society than the Native Americans were. This mindset and many others were used to justify things such as stealing the land from ocean to ocean, as well as disrespecting many treaties and even slaughtering Native Americans to make them move off of their land (Finzsch ... Comparing The Tempest And Yojiro Takita s Departures A comparative study of Shakespeare s play, The Tempest and Yojiro Takita s film, Departures reinforce the concept that an individual s competency to recognise the connotations of foreign contexts, leaves lasting impacts on their perspectives of the world and those around them. Both composers incorporate the vital idea that characters confrontation with morality induces developments of change and subsequently reflect integral actions of compassion. The Tempest sets the discourse of an abortive revenge drama that focuses on Prospero and his outlook on humanity through the art of forgiving. Takita emphasises the flaws of the human condition through Daigo as he starts his first day working with a rotting corpse. Medium shots are employed to highlight Daigo s body language where he forces himself to close his eyes and tries to stray away from the body. Such techniques strongly suggest distaste and disturbance as systematic responses whilst illustrating the extent of which the impacts of discovery can be provocative in confronting world values. Takita s manipulations with camera work effectively triggers automatic disfigured expressions in the audience, reminding them of their weaknesses whilst encouraging consideration for actions in response. This perspective of weakness and violation is further emphasised with the utilising of close shots where it captures Daigo washing himself like someone who has a cleaning disorder. Daigo s sense of affliction fully encompasses the concept confrontation instigates a process of emotional discovery as inevitable actions for attempts to accept universal truths of weakness and the inevitability of death. • 30. Just War and Pacifism Essay The question Can war be justified? plagued mankind since the first war. The Just War Theory holds that war can be just. The theory has evolved for thousands of years and modern theorists, such as Michael Walzer, author of Just and Unjust Wars, puts forth criteria for a just war, such as jus ad bellum and jus in bello. Jus ad bellum includes reasons for going to war, and jus in bello deals with the people who wage war. The criteria in jus ad bellum include; just cause, declaration by a proper authority, right intention, a reasonable chance of success, the end proportional to the means, and war as a last resort. Jus in bello includes keeping innocents outside the field of war, and limiting the amount of force used. Just War Theorists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Locke s State of nature the government s primary objective is to protect individuals. For example, if one was in a state of nature and a gang of savages attacked him or her, he or she would do anything necessary to defend themselves. They would then form a group with a common objective of protection. With life now insured, the group can pursue liberty, happiness and estate. Just War Theorists claim the governments of today are essentially the same, only on a larger scale. Walzer and other Just War Theorists hold that self defense justifies pre emptive strikes. If an outside force is obviously endangering a state, it is then justifiable to stop the attack before it happens. Pre emptive strikes can prevent a future war that has worse effects. Walzer has what he calls a general formula for a just pre emptive strike, States may use military force in the face of threats of war, wherever the failure to do so would seriously risk their territorial integrity and political independence (87). Walzer uses an example to justify his general formula of a justifiable pre emptive strike. He claims that the Six Day War in 1967 was indeed a just pre emptive attack on Egypt by Israel. Israel was under real threat because Egyptian President Nasser massed an army and was positioning for attack, while simultaneously closing the Straits of Tiran to Israel, and publicizing his goal to destroy Israel. Wrongly, superintendents often recommend cutting some of the fine arts programs.¨ Programs which strive to keep students from delinquent behaviors, and offer life skills that the traditional curriculum fails to do are being cut as a result of school boards deeming them unnecessary. He continues to say, ¨School boards must analyze very carefully the long term ramifications of eliminating the fine arts programs. Realizing this really makes reading the novel much more interesting, because now the reader has something or someone to compare each of the main or supporting characters to. The Hunger Games makes relates many of the characters to historical figures. Many of the male figures seem to be named after Roman politicians, philosophers, and poets. Take Cinna, for instance. Cinna, in the novel, is Katniss and Peeta s stylists for the Games. He does their makeup and creates their outfits to wear for the opening ceremony, for the interview with Caesar Flickerman, and for in the arena. His artistic skills relate to that of Gaius Helvius Cinna, a Roman poet. He also resembles to Lucius Cornelius Cinna, although more so later in the sequel, Catching Fire, because they are both defiant. Cinna, for turning the wedding dress President Snow wanted Katniss to dress in for her interview with Caesar Flickerman into a mockingjay, which turned into a symbol of rebellion, and Lucius Cornelius Cinna for staging a rebellion. What really ties it all together is that Cinna, Lucius Cornelius Cinna, and Gaius Helvius Cinna all met their demise by murder. Caesar Flickerman is also a prime example of relating to a ...
