Hesiod s Works And Days
In Hesiod s Works and Days Elpis is a very controversial and crucial point of the story.
Elpis is meant to represent hope for humanity, and it is delivered via the Pithos that also
carried all the miseries of man. But the woman took off the great lid of the jar with her
hands, and scattered, all these and her thought caused sorrow and mischief to men Hesiod

question being how must one regard this secret and unexpected piece of the sacred gift
from Pandora. I believe Elpis should be regarded as a blessing for humanity, as it drives
human persistence, the love for others, and the idea that human want to better shape the
world around them. When the reader
Fatigue Produce Negative Influences
How fatigue produce negative influences Have you ever considered about which season
has a higher risk of car accidents on the highway? Summer or winter? I glanced to the
right, kept my hands stable on the wheel. It must be Winter. Responded by my roommate
without hesitation. The slushy weather could make the highway slippery which is really
dangerous. Actually, accidents happened more frequently in Summer because of fatigue
driving, which made people drive under the condition of lower attention and reaction. At
this time, I can feel the confusion showed on my roommate s face, yours as well. In fact,
Summer always famous because of its high temperature and sunshine. Summer will have
a longer day length and a warmer weather than other seasons, which could increase
people s drowsiness. This phenomenon happens to the human body which called fatigue

Sherman Alexie says that being funny breaks down the barriers between people. In his
short stories, This is what it means to say Phoenix, Arizona and The Lone Ranger and
Tonto and Fistfight in Heaven , Alexie has different characters who tells jokes. Many
of the jokes are funny but can lead to many problems is said at an inappropriate time
and place. The two characters are already an outsider as Indians, so they would have to
watch what they say and do to not offend anyone near.

Thomas introduced himself by saying, I m half magician on my mother s side and half
clown on my father s (Alexie, This Is What 286). Many people laughed at that joke and
Cathy thought it was funny also, so they continue to have a conversation. Even though
Victor is embarrassed at Thomas s attempts to continue to talk with her, they realize
that Cathy is friendly and they all enjoy talking to each other. Another example is
Thomas says Sounds like you all got a lot in common with Indians (Alexie, This Is
what 286 ). This joke made the situation awkward because nobody thought was funny.
That shows that not everything is a joke and could get the people around him offended
or mad. When the plane lands, Victor felt the need to say sorry and get the feeling out
of his chest so he apologizes for beating up Thomas. Soon later they arrive at Victor s
father s trailer. Victor s father s body was not found for a week, so the trailer smelled
really bad and it is really hard for Thomas and Victor to go in to sort through the man s
things. While they are looking and going through the trailer they both are telling stories
about how they helped one another and how they will have each other s
Things Can Change Helps Teens Dodge Depression
The Merriam Webster dictionary defines depression as, A mood disorder marked
especially by sadness, inactivity, difficulty in thinking and concentration. this is
something everyone relates to especially teenagers. In the article, Hearing That Things
Can Change Helps Teens Dodge Depression Maanvi Singh, a writer for NPR, describes
how depressionacts within a teenager. The topic at hand, depression is quite intricate, it
is hard to understand or deal with it, and usually can only be dealt with by the victim,
but Singh introduces a study by David Yeager, a professor majoring in psychology, which
shows how teenagers believe that things won t get better, how intervention at a young
age may combat, or dodge depression in the future, and how... Show more content on

Yeager s study on dodging depression shows that after some clarity by some elder
students on how life does change, and gets better, teens were able to cope better with
their depressing thoughts, and symptoms, even students who had been bullied, or were
being bullied. This intervention could be used anywhere, and could help teens suppress
depression, for example Perry High School, as teenagers deal with drama their
depressive behavior may be triggered, as Yeager said, they believe it won t get better, but

Critical Analysis Of Richard Georg Strauss s An Alpine...
Richard Georg Strauss was born June 11th, 1864, he was one of the leading German
composers of the late Romantic and early Modern eras. He is known for his operas such
as Elektra, Die Frau one Schatten, and Salome. The composition I am going to analyze
from Richard Strauss is his An Alpine Symphony. An Alpine Symphony
begins in low
volume, leaving me with a feeling of suspense. The instruments that commenced the
piece was a fragment of the string section known as the second violins. The string section
completely joined in but became over taken by a fragment of the brass section which was
the trombones. The trombones played a long note, this theme reminds me of a funeral
because of how silent the musicians are playing their instruments.... Show more content

New instruments were introduced in this section, the instruments introduced are the
timpani and the crash cymbals. The timpani and crash cymbals are two members of the
percussion section. The timpani and crash cymbals brought back a sentimental value to
me, making me feel happiness because a few years ago, I learned how to play both
instruments for the Knox Pride of Troy Band. The two instruments bring in excitement,
the crashing of the cymbals and the rumble of the timpani are two loud figures, I believe
this section represents the composers emotion when he was waking up from a long night
of sleep. Strauss probably felt an attachment to the day time because it is possible that he
did his best work during the day time. The xylophone was ultimately annexed during this
section as the final member of the percussion section. Like the previous section Night ,
the light section began to annex in the french horns, trombones, and string section. The
strings along with the timpani and trombone added a dramatic feeling making me feel
warm inside because of how clear and filled with emotion they played. The light section
ends with an allegro movement of the timpani, the woodwinds join in, and the trumpets
are officially
Partlow III introduced to end the section. The section kept a high volume, it would
never drop, it would constantly rise piece by piece. One piece that did not effect me was
the coda, because I was already used to the coda of the previous section,
Shanghai Culture And Modern Chinese Culture In The Late...
There is an old saying in China: two thousand years of history to see the city of xi an, one
thousand years of history to see Beijing, one hundred years of history to see Shanghai. As
the epitome of modern Chinese history, Shanghai has grown into a modern international
metropolis. In the rapid economic development, Shanghaihas not abandoned the
traditional Chinese characteristics of the Shanghai culture, but instead has integrated the
traditional folk customs and urban customs perfect. The bustling Shanghai is full of its
unique cultural charm, and its internationalization, modernization, and time style labels
are also attracting more and more people.
Shanghai, a historic and cultural city, is famous for its Shanghai culture and Longtang
culture. The Shanghai culture is a style of Chinese art present in the late 19th century and
centered in Shanghai. Under the masters from this culture, traditional Chinese art
developed into the modern style of Chinese painting . The Shanghai style marked the first
major departure from traditional Chinese painting by focusing less on the symbolism
emphasized by the Literati style and more on the visual content of the painting itself. The
Shanghai culture originated from the Songjiang culture , challenged and broke the elitist
tradition of Chinese art, while also paying technical homage to the ancient masters and
improving on existing traditional techniques. In an era of rapid social change, works
from the Shanghai culture were innovative and diverse and often contained thoughtful
yet subtle social commentary. Longtang, unique to Shanghai, is a special form of
residence that solve the conflict between a large population and limited house in the past.
The timeworn Longtang record the stories of Shanghai, and reflect the traditions, the life
style and attitude of Shanghainese. They concentrate many different many different
people from all over China who have brought with them diverse cultures. Thousands upon
thousands of Shanghai people are sentimentally attached to the Longtangs till now. The
main reason is that a strong human relationship prevails in the Longtang. A good and

The Pedestrian Analysis
The PBS article on film adaption discusses the challenges of adapting a novel into film
and the changes film makers may need to make. There are many differences between
the two due to their prepositional setups. This can cause key factors of a novel to be lost

characters, engaging your imagination and possibly even scenes due to the time
limitation a film has(PBS). However, when a director takes on this challenge they re able
to alter the novel and fix any faults they see. They also must make many attempts to

protagonist was taken to the same place. As he was taken away, the protagonist states
he s being withheld at the Psychiatric Center for Regressive Tendencies(Bollinger). In
the short story, after he asks where he s being taken to, the voice of the vehicle

The Etruscan Temples And The Parthenon
During the fifth century and Eighth century BCE, The Etruscan Temples and The
Parthenon were built and valued by their cultures for many spiritual and cultural reasons.
Similar to the Parthenon, The Etruscan Temples are built with influences from Greece.
However, Both have different appearances based off of there medium, purpose, and
architecture. The Etruscan Temple and the Parthenonboth have strong stances within
there cultures and provide peace and empowerment for the population of the time. Both
structures are two similar ancient buildings, though there differences in culture and
architecture set them apart. The Etruscan culture was located in central Italy to the
north of Rome. The Etruscan Temples were built by the Etruscans during the Archaic
period (600 480 BCE). By the time archaeologists discovered the Etruscan Temples,
they were very worn down and most were no longer standing, though, they were
measured to about 5x6 meters long with a height of 2 meters with the altar of ten steps
in the front of the temple. The Etruscans made small temples, like little houses with
pointed roofs, entirely of wood, but then outside, they had freizes and cornices and
crests of terra cotta so the upper part of the temple would seem as almost made of
earthenware... (Lawrence 52) They were able to use the mud as a kind of concrete to
keep the wood and brick in place. The Temples typically had three cellas where as the
Parthenon only had one. As for the Parthenon, it was located on
Compare And Contrast Southwest Airlines And American
Airlines
Introduction
Two of the largest competing airlines in America may seem to have a lot in common to
a consumer s eye: big commercial planes, friendly staff, one free carry on bag,
complimentary snacks. Maybe the biggest comparison of them all is how much of the
airline market these two companies take up. But for every similarity, there must be a
difference. Beyond contrasting ticket prices, there are many fronts on which to compare
Southwest Airlines and American Airlines. To begin when the companies began,
American Airlines was established approximately 40 years sooner than Southwest
Airlines as a result of a merger. In terms of people, Southwest Airlines currently has just
about half the number of employees that American does. However, to truly compare the
two companies, the organization itself must be researched and analyzed. Southwest
Airlines and American Airlines appear to be very different to this day in terms of
organizational culture, team dynamics, and conflict and negotiation.
Organizational Culture Organizational culture could almost be considered the roots of a
company. The way a company s employees think, the way the customers feel, and the
company s decisions are made are all based around the culture that the company has laid
for itself. An employee s values, thoughts, and actions should reflect those stated in the
company s mission. Southwest Airlines and American Airlines, while both attempting to
create a culture that is comfortable and pleasing to their
Cost Control in Health Maintenance Organizations Essay
An HMO is an organized health care delivery system, which provides health care to its
members through networks of doctors and hospitals. Rather than traditional health plans,
HMO s cost less. Two ways HMO s control costs are: controlling hospital admission and
length of stay, and by providing incentives to physicians. These two cost control methods
are further examined by an article published by The National Bureau of Economic
Research (2002). The article examines the incentives to physician strategy for reducing
utilization cost. The Physician Guide to Managed Care(1994) describes HMOs the case
management procedures used to control cost through hospitallength of stay and

Bonus levels are determined on the basis of performance, as performance improves the
bonuses gradually become higher. HMO s rely on rates and member satisfaction survey
results to measure provider performance. By keeping a certain level of member
satisfaction, more revenue can be brought in through new enrollees.
Financial incentives are generally more influential when it comes to physicians
improving quality of care. According to the National Research Council (2001), research
regarding payment and quality improvement efforts of health care administrators was
presented at an Institute of Medicine Workshop in April of 2004. The research showed
,with the use of physician incentives the total direct savings in health care cost which
include reduce visits and hospital episodes was an estimated net savings of about 2,000
per patient. For more than 13,000 diabetic patients managed by a physician group it was
projected that the savings had the potential to generate over $10 million in net saving per
year. Aligning financial incentives with physician s networks provides the achievement
of better patient outcomes, but generally provides the HMO cost control over their equity.
HMO s utilize the process of controlling hospital admission and length of stay as another
form of cost control. According to Nash (1994), in order to minimize hospital length of
stay, the HMO arranges in advance for care to
Permanency In The Time Machine
Scientific research often emphasizes a common goal of creating perfection within
humanity; the wish to manipulate nature to gain superiority technologically is a theme
Wells touches upon in The Time Machine: ...[the] perfect state lack[s] one thing even for

During the Industrial Revolution extravagance was on the rise especially when
looked at by the Crystal Palace, built in England during this era ( Victorian Britain ).
The Crystal Palace was the hallmark of England s industrial successes, as each new
invention was exhibited for the enjoyment of the people who had the time to enjoy
such leisure rather than work where minimal labor laws were set in place ( Victorian
Britain ). The Time Machine has its very own Crystal Palace too: the tall pinnacles of
the Palace of Green Porcelain and the polished gleam of its walls came back to
memory (Wells 54). In The Time Machine, the Eloi flex their technological might:

who later retaliate the oppression of the Eloi by taking them for meals instilling fear

Wells sees society heading due to the rise of materialism and consumerism. The Pixar
film, Wall E, alludes to this reliance on technology in the description of the overweight

Tutorial Time Essay
There are moments when a student stays up extremely late working on their
homework, a project, or studying for a test. They are consistently wishing for
additional time to complete their tasks and assignments. Schools, over the course of

The two characters are already an outsider as Indians, so they would have to watch what they say and do to not offend anyone near. Even though Victor is embarrassed at Thomas s attempts to continue to talk with her, they realize that Cathy is friendly and they all enjoy talking to each other. • 10. Critical Analysis Of Richard Georg Strauss s An Alpine... Richard Georg Strauss was born June 11th, 1864, he was one of the leading German composers of the late Romantic and early Modern eras. He is known for his operas such as Elektra, Die Frau one Schatten, and Salome. The composition I am going to analyze from Richard Strauss is his An Alpine Symphony. An Alpine Symphony begins in low volume, leaving me with a feeling of suspense. The instruments that commenced the piece was a fragment of the string section known as the second violins. The string section completely joined in but became over taken by a fragment of the brass section which was the trombones. The trombones played a long note, this theme reminds me of a funeral because of how silent the musicians are playing their instruments.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... New instruments were introduced in this section, the instruments introduced are the timpani and the crash cymbals. The timpani and crash cymbals are two members of the percussion section. The timpani and crash cymbals brought back a sentimental value to me, making me feel happiness because a few years ago, I learned how to play both instruments for the Knox Pride of Troy Band. The two instruments bring in excitement, the crashing of the cymbals and the rumble of the timpani are two loud figures, I believe this section represents the composers emotion when he was waking up from a long night of sleep. Strauss probably felt an attachment to the day time because it is possible that he did his best work during the day time. The xylophone was ultimately annexed during this section as the final member of the percussion section. Like the previous section Night , the light section began to annex in the french horns, trombones, and string section. The strings along with the timpani and trombone added a dramatic feeling making me feel warm inside because of how clear and filled with emotion they played. The light section ends with an allegro movement of the timpani, the woodwinds join in, and the trumpets are officially Partlow III introduced to end the section. The section kept a high volume, it would never drop, it would constantly rise piece by piece. One piece that did not effect me was the coda, because I was already used to the coda of the previous section,

Analyzing Ray Bradbury s The Pedestrian The Pedestrian Analysis The PBS article on film adaption discusses the challenges of adapting a novel into film and the changes film makers may need to make. There are many differences between the two due to their prepositional setups. This can cause key factors of a novel to be lost once transferred into a film. This includes a narrator, personal attachments with the characters, engaging your imagination and possibly even scenes due to the time limitation a film has(PBS). However, when a director takes on this challenge they re able to alter the novel and fix any faults they see. Another similarity between the two is that in the end, the protagonist was taken to the same place. As he was taken away, the protagonist states he s being withheld at the Psychiatric Center for Regressive Tendencies(Bollinger). In the short story, after he asks where he s being taken to, the voice of the vehicle responds with the same name(Bradbury 51). In both societies, his behavior was seen as abnormal or concerning. By the time archaeologists discovered the Etruscan Temples, they were very worn down and most were no longer standing, though, they were measured to about 5x6 meters long with a height of 2 meters with the altar of ten steps in the front of the temple. The Etruscans made small temples, like little houses with pointed roofs, entirely of wood, but then outside, they had freizes and cornices and crests of terra cotta so the upper part of the temple would seem as almost made of earthenware... Compare And Contrast Southwest Airlines And American Airlines Introduction Two of the largest competing airlines in America may seem to have a lot in common to a consumer s eye: big commercial planes, friendly staff, one free carry on bag, complimentary snacks. Maybe the biggest comparison of them all is how much of the airline market these two companies take up. But for every similarity, there must be a difference. Beyond contrasting ticket prices, there are many fronts on which to compare Southwest Airlines and American Airlines. To begin when the companies began, American Airlines was established approximately 40 years sooner than Southwest Airlines as a result of a merger. In terms of people, Southwest Airlines currently has just about half the number of employees that American does. However, to truly compare the two companies, the organization itself must be researched and analyzed. Southwest Airlines and American Airlines appear to be very different to this day in terms of organizational culture, team dynamics, and conflict and negotiation. Organizational Culture Organizational culture could almost be considered the roots of a company. The way a company s employees think, the way the customers feel, and the company s decisions are made are all based around the culture that the company has laid for itself. An employee s values, thoughts, and actions should reflect those stated in the company s mission. Southwest Airlines and American Airlines, while both attempting to create a culture that is comfortable and pleasing to their

Rather than traditional health plans, HMO s cost less. Two ways HMO s control costs are: controlling hospital admission and length of stay, and by providing incentives to physicians. These two cost control methods are further examined by an article published by The National Bureau of Economic Research (2002). The article examines the incentives to physician strategy for reducing utilization cost. Bonus levels are determined on the basis of performance, as performance improves the bonuses gradually become higher. HMO s rely on rates and member satisfaction survey results to measure provider performance. By keeping a certain level of member satisfaction, more revenue can be brought in through new enrollees. Financial incentives are generally more influential when it comes to physicians improving quality of care. According to the National Research Council (2001), research regarding payment and quality improvement efforts of health care administrators was presented at an Institute of Medicine Workshop in April of 2004. The research showed ,with the use of physician incentives the total direct savings in health care cost which include reduce visits and hospital episodes was an estimated net savings of about 2,000 per patient. For more than 13,000 diabetic patients managed by a physician group it was projected that the savings had the potential to generate over $10 million in net saving per year. Aligning financial incentives with physician s networks provides the achievement of better patient outcomes, but generally provides the HMO cost control over their equity. HMO s utilize the process of controlling hospital admission and length of stay as another form of cost control. According to Nash (1994), in order to minimize hospital length of stay, the HMO arranges in advance for care to

The Crystal Palace was the hallmark of England s industrial successes, as each new invention was exhibited for the enjoyment of the people who had the time to enjoy such leisure rather than work where minimal labor laws were set in place ( Victorian Britain ). The Time Machine has its very own Crystal Palace too: the tall pinnacles of the Palace of Green Porcelain and the polished gleam of its walls came back to memory (Wells 54). They are consistently wishing for additional time to complete their tasks and assignments. Schools, over the course of the years, have developed a schedule and has added an extra period called Tutorial. Tutorial is usually used in a block schedule.
