The Struggle Of Women By The Sherlock Holmes Stories By...
In crime fiction, many themes are encountered in crime stories, enabling the reader to reflect on the
cultural and moral values of the society. These stories discuss various topics such as race, ethnicity,
sexism, and femininity. In the Sherlock Holmes stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the independence
of women is shown as a conflict in society that must be solved and controlled by men. This may be
demonstrated by the poor representation of single women present in the Sherlock Holmes stories, such
as Mary Morstan and Irene Adler who are considered as a problem in this society, because they do not
have the presence of a male figure guiding them in their everyday lives. In the stories, the issues
caused by these women are redundantly resolved by marrying a man. This implies an unacceptable
prejudice towards the female gender.
Firstly, in the stories, single women who are alone appear to be problematic due to the lack of men in
their everyday lives. Mary Morstan is isolated, and must be saved by men, whereas Irene Adler is
presented as being a scandalous woman who must be restrained. As Mary Morstan first approaches
Holmes and Watson to state her case, she explains that her mother has deceased, her father has
disappeared, and that she does not have any other family member close by to be there for her,
therefore, she is alone. She says: My father was an Indian regiment, [...] My mother was dead, and I
had no relative in England. (Conan Doyle,

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Decision Support System
After knowing the benefit and limitation of Decision Support System (DSS), we should consider the
following points before creation of successful DSS. Even the existing system, which are away from
these point, can consider the same for future enhancement. Below are most important factors to bring
success to DSS while using
1. Timely execution We need to spend sizeable amount in planning before the execution, proper focus
should be given on each point. System developer should spend good amount in analysing the existing
resource and future requirement. Development should be not for today, I should earmark space and
other resource keeping in mind future. Speed in not always beneficial, go step by step. Your today s

Foolology Ishmael Reed Summary
What is Ishmael Reed s message in Foolology In this article ¨Foolology¨ the author s message is
before you can spot the fool in others you must get rid of the fool in yourself. This is important
because the author is showing how you should spot the fool in yourself before you spot the fool in
others, and sometimes it is hard to find the biggest fool you or your friend that is a fool, you can tell a
fool by it s big mouth. In this article the authors message is important because in this article it explains
in lines 13 16 how after he eats, his friends eat. He is a fool and his friends are fools but it s not easy to
spot the biggest fool him or his friends. Another important part in this article is the ¨First Moral¨ line
25: Don t do business with people for whom April first is an important date they will use your bank
balance to buy eight thousand pies, tunics, ballet slippers with bells and a mail order lake in the
middle of the desert for splash parties. The author is explaining how you can get fooled and also what
happens when you get fooled, when he gets fooled they use your money to buy lots of things and just
waste your money and don t do their job right. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ishmael Reed quotes, ¨Before you can spot the fools in others you must rid yourself of the fool in you¨
( lines 30 32). I think this is a great moral because for the first moral it shows how he was a fool by
getting tricked and how he should ve spotted himself as the fool before the spotted the fool in the
others and because he didn t his outcome came to be that they took lots of money from his bank
account and fooled him. You can tell a fool by his big

A Program Of Management And Leadership Development Essay
If an organization has a track record of effective responsiveness to the environment, and if it has been
able to successfully change the way it operates when needed, TQM will be easier to implement. If an
organization has been historically reactive and has no skill at improving its operating systems, there
will be both employee skepticism and a lack of skilled change agents. If this condition prevails, a
comprehensive program of management and leadership development may be instituted. A
management audit is a good assessment tool to identify current levels of organizational functioning
and areas in need of change. An organization should be basically healthy before beginning TQM. If it
has significant problems such as a very unstable funding base, weak administrative systems, lack of
managerial skill, or poor employee morale, TQM would not be appropriate.5
However, a certain level of stress is probably desirable to initiate TQM. People need to feel a need for
a change. Kanter (1983) addresses this phenomenon be describing building blocks which are present
in effective organizational change. These forces include departures from tradition, a crisis or
galvanizing event, strategic decisions, individual prime movers, and action vehicles. Departures from
tradition are activities, usually at lower levels of the organization, which occur when entrepreneurs
move outside the normal ways of operating to solve a problem. A crisis, if it is not too disabling, can
also help create a

The Memory System Essay example
Memories are creative recollections of past experiences that are unique to each individual. They define
us and give us our identity. Memories are a collection of information, which at one time was new to
us, and as we learned and progressed, that information became stored as memory. The main fact to
memory is that practice and repetition is a key asset to making the brain encode the information as
memory. When the brain encodes this information it is stored, waiting to be retrieved. When we
memorize something, it is stored for a certain amount of time in the brain, the more we recall this
information the more familiar we become with it, making it easier to remember and recall later in life.
The process of memory is still a mystery, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While yet it is the most complex process neuroscience has ever tried to define. Most theorists believe
that the brain encodes information in two different types, motor skills memory and factual memory.
Motor skills memory is the memorization of functions like running, walking, or eating. While factual
memory is associated with the memorization of telephone number, names, places, and experiences.
Some theorists believe this is the basic foundation to memories. Associated with these two types are
three levels, Sensory memory, Short term memory, and Long term memory. Sensory memory is the
level, which absorbs the things around us using the five main senses, sight, smell, touch, sound, and
taste. This level of memory is thought to only last a matter of seconds, and only moves on to the next
level if enough attention is given to the information. (Baddeley, 1976) If not enough attention is given
to the information it is ignored by the brain and forgotten. (Howe, 1983) The second level of memory
is the Short term memory. This level is believed to only have a capacity of 7 items, and have a
duration time of no more than thirty seconds. (Bjork, 1996) When memories in the short term are used
more and more it sends it to the next level, but again this is only done by practice or repetition. A way
for most people to remember more things, in the short term is called Chunking. This is where someone

Different Viewpoints
Everybody has a different perspective on different topics. Not all viewpoints are the same on certain
topics. The perspective others have can shape the way they are now. Different viewpoints show others
how you have grown and feel about certain topics. From the perspective of a girl who had a step sister
that chose to accept lies and friends over family. When my step sister finally moved out, she decided
to cause issues with the family so she could try to get her father back. In the process of doing that, she
made up an accusation about him to try to have the family tore apart so she could have him back. Due
to the accusation that she made it caused more issues for her and my family. The accusation that was

After his first counseling session, we got a phone call saying he was no longer allowed to live with us,
but he come visit as long as there was another adult with him. This only happened as a result of the
counselor being concerned for my well being. So right now, my family is torn apart and struggling
more than before. I m hoping that soon he will be able to come back home so we can be a family
again. In the future, when I turn eighteen, my stepfather will be able to live with his family again
unless something changes. If the counselor decides it is ok for him to come live with us before I turn
eighteen, then we can be a family again. This whole experience so far has shown me that lying to get
your way can cause more issues in the long run. If I lied to get my way, I know I would lose my
family because they wouldn t be able to trust me anymore. Lying shows that you are a selfish and
irresponsible person. This situation has shown me to be more responsible and care about other people
s feelings not just myself. I believe one day in the future if I have two daughters, I would teach them
not to lie about their own family to get their way. I would also try to make sure that they don t have
their friends help them along with the situation because they can lose friends and family. Also, I would

Democracy Promotion By The Eu And Democratization Via...
Exporting democracy? Democracy Promotion by the EU and Democratization via Eastern European
Partnership
With the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of the Soviet Union, the United States and many other
developed countries have begun to pay more attention to their policy of democracy promotion in the
countries of the former communist bloc. As ex President Clinton declared in his second State of the
Union address in 1995, Ultimately, the best strategy to ensure our security and to build a durable peace
is to support the advance of democracy elsewhere followed by his rhetoric, utopian statement, The
world s greatest democracy will lead a whole world of democracies.
Here will be provided a definition of democracy promotion, name of some of the promoters, and list
the goals of democracy promotion.
Do Western democracy promoters seek to protect basic civil and political liberties or do they aim to
promote state interests under the disguise of democracy ?
As a result of the collapse of the Soviet Union, new independent states were emerged and it was the
time for the European Union (EU) to stretch towards its eastern neighbor countries in order to build
relationships and bring them closer to the EU by promoting democracy. Alongside with the
democratization of non western countries, the primary goals of the EU was to establish a political
community, to deepen and strengthen free trade zones, and as well as to abolish the visa regime within
those eastern countries. In

Homelessness And Media Analysis
In 2015, my sophomore year in high school, I was presented with an opportunity. Two of my friends
and I had the ability to design our own community service project. I particularly was drawn to the
issue of poverty in my hometown. I had always had an idea of what I thought homelessness was,
however, as I talked to the manager of a Council Bluffs homeless shelter, The MICAH House, I
realized I was completely wrong. Homelessness is not always like the stereotypical picture that the
media portrays, but a mere lack of resources, resulting in complete inability for one to reground
themselves. From that point on, I felt permanently attached to the matter. The largest issue that was
revealed to us, among the shelter, was the lack of transportation.

Deviance Examples
Reading Reflection Number One: The Good, the Bad, and the Change of Deviance GO TO JAIL: Go
directly to Jail. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200. Community chest, Monopoly. Unlike board
games, deviance in life is extremely complex. It is not as simple as picking up of an unwanted card,
and is certainly not as of straightforward as spending three turns in jail. Instead, in society today,
deviance is portrayed over many different situations, and it arises for many contrasting reasons based
on society s opinions and views. However, over time society s thoughts and assessments change
leading to a transformation of deviant behavior. First and foremost, there are many devenant actions
that over time go through a moral passage. A moral passage is defined as a change of society s
viewing on a deviant behavior. Simply, a once seemed deviant act becomes socially acceptable. This
change can come about for many different reasons usually ending with the majority of people coming
to an agreement that the act is not worth the demming of deviance. The most common examples of
this is the change of the law of achole. However, there are many other examples of acts deemed
socially acceptable with in time. Most recently, being a homosexual has become in the social norm as
well as even within legal rights. There are many examples of deviant behaviors becoming less deviant
and even considered within the social norm. Further, there are many social norms that over time seem

Research Paper On Psoriasis
PSORIASIS AS A SYSTEMIC INFLAMMATORY DISEASE:
There is increasing awareness that psoriasis as a disease is more than skin deep and that it has
important systemic manifestations that are shared with other chronic inflammatory diseases, such as
Crohn s disease and diabetes mellitus. The shared conditions include the metabolic syndrome,
depression, and cancer.3 It is unclear whether cancer, particularly lymphoma and skin cancer, is
related to the disease or its treatment (Gelfand et al., 2006).
An associated arthropathy, psoriatic arthritis, has features in common with psoriasis but is considered
to be a distinct disease entity with a distinct therapeutic spectrum (Ravindran et al., 2008). Of

However, the long term safety of biologic agents is an unresolved issue and will be addressed in a

Environmentalism In Pope Francis
Pope Francis describes a relentless exploitation and destruction towards environmental discomfort, for
which he blamed apathy from the pursuit of profitable faith in political as well as technological
injustice. The Laudato Si unambiguously accepts scientific causes that impacts the climate that were
beneficially man made, stating climate change is a global problem with grave implications:
environmental, social, economic, political and for the distribution of goods . Representing one of the
principals that challenges humanity. After great anticipation, Pope Francis determined and faced the
difficulties of climate change and pleaded for justice, to enter into dialogue with all people about our
common home. The Pope reaches for new conclusions and is calling for a spiritual transformation and
a solid connection to Earth s ecosystems. The Laudato Si is different, as it is not addressed specifically
to the one beliefs with additional groups added. Pope Francis invites the people of the world to a
dialogue on the subject of environmentalism. Pope Francis has written Laudato Si as caring for
creation is something that is close to his heart. More fundamentally, Pope Francis believes that there
are substantial ecological complications today that must be addressed. They include not only problems
in the natural environment but also in the human sphere, particularly among the disadvantaged. Pope
Francis wrote the encyclical, dated 24 May 2015 and was officially published at on 18

A Research on Robotic Surgery
Robotic Surgery Technology is transforming the medical field with the design of robotic devices and
multifaceted imaging. Even though these developments have made operations much less invasive,
robotic systems have their own disadvantages that prevent them from replacing surgeons all together.
Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) is a broad notion encompassing a lot of common procedures that
existed prior to the introduction of robots. It refers to general procedures that keep away from long
cuts by entering the body through small, usually about 1cm, entry incisions, through which surgeons
use long handled instruments to operate on tissue inside the body. Such operations are directed by
viewing equipment and, therefore, do not automatically need the use of a robot. Yet, it is not incorrect
to say that computer assisted and robotic surgeries are categories that fall under minimally invasive
surgery (Robotic Surgery, n.d.). A laparoscopic approach appears to be associated with a reduction in
surgical trauma and blood loss. In addition, it is presumable that some of the benefits of minimally
invasive surgery such as reduced analgesic requirements, a shorter recovery period and reduced
hospital stay (Kuhry, 2005). It has become a forerunner in the quest of improving surgical results by
dropping postoperative pain and lessening recovery time. Yet, the use of laparoscopic instruments can
be awkward and cumbersome, thus escalating operative time and dropping dexterity, which can

I m the King of the Castle by Susan Hill
Susan Hill, In the Set of the King of The Castle is based in a large house called Warings; it was once
before a countryside Mansion but now it all decayed. In this specific passage the reader is given a
clear idea of the reason behind it. Yet also, the whole extract gives us full details to understand Joseph
Hooper s wanting E Hooper s power, compassion and not respecting People s human rights. Your
father should have left you some money... to pay off all this debts , Since the Beginning it was
observed how Hooper abuses his social class to bully Kingshaw s Social class and his fathers. In the
end of the passage a small fight occurs between both characters where Kingshaw punches Hooper and
attempts to escape Warings. This specific incident sets the scene where in chapter #3 he is attacked by
a crow. The crow symbolises Hooper who is very protective of his territory and will not let Kingsshaw
threaten his privilege position at the Warings. The most significant aspect of this Red room is the
mention of the Moths.
The symbolism of the moths is to add a environment of death to the passage. The author uses the
Moths to add a sordid tone as the rest of the novel is taking place. The author uses the death of the
moth s to show how Hooper is slowly killing or taking Kingshaw s life hope or free spirit. The glass
cabinets filled with Moths are used to symbolise the death and disintegration of Hooper s power, this
can be shown through a simile glass showcases of moths and

Essay The American with Disabilities Act
As stated by the founding fathers of America All men are created equal. Black, white, brown, short,
tall, smart, and dumb, all are created equally. Therefore every person deserves fair judgement.
Unfortunately, it is a profound fact that not everyone is born normal and capable of task typical for a
common person, who is free from disability. In my opinion, the quote All men are created equal serves
to promote a friendly environment that helps encourage equality among people and aids to recognize
the similarities rather than the differences that separates men. Even so, with this hope, the disabled
community still struggles for equality. According to Legal Rights by the National Association of the
Deaf (NAD), Almost 10 percent of all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the law was signed, new doors opened for the deaf and hard of hearing culture for a better
opportunity in gaining equal rights. President Bush appointed four titles to protect deaf and hard of
hearing people. In The ADA and Deaf Culture by Tucker, B. Title I, prohibits both public and private
employers from refusing to hire or promote an individual because of his or her impairment and
requires employers to provide reasonable accommodations for applicants or employees who are deaf
or hard of hearing (Tucker 28). If a deaf or hard of hearing employee can pass the essential part of the
job qualification, he or she is protected by the ADA to be hired. Also, the ADA prohibits employers to
discriminate disabled people in means of recruitment, job applications procedures, pay rates, and
promotions. The second title, Title II, Requires all state and local government agencies to make all of
their services accessible to individuals with disability (NAD 22). This ensures people with disability to
be able to participate in services, programs, and activities who can meet the essential eligibility
requirements. Such places that must make these accommodations are schools, libraries, police and fire

The Impact Of Modern Public Sphere On The Middle East
During the 19th century the Middle East found themselves with a problem of establishing an identity
or nationalism. Through defensive developmentalism the Middle East had sought to counter the
imperialistic approach of the West, yet still begin to modernize their land. The world was developing
rapidly and the Middle East wanted to ensure that they did not fall behind. However, the approach
backfired and the Middle East found themselves struggling to establish their own modern identity and
falling victim to becoming more like the Europeans. Many new ideas and new movements developed
through Middle Easterners, some wanted to modernize and began to fuse European and Arabic
tradition, while others wanted to re establish Islamic tradition. Most detrimental to these new ideas
and movements was the emergence of the modern public sphere. The modern public sphere flowed
into all aspects of these new movements and had many effects on the Middle East. In essence, this
idea of modernization would combine with the imperialism of European thoughts, as well as
components of the industrial revolution and would lay the foundation for the fusing of the Europeans
with Islamic traditions.
When the Ottoman government decided to institute the Ottoman Law Code of 1858, they did more
than enable people to more land. It was an action that would create a new social class in the Middle
East. With this new law, people begun to acquire new land. Although, over time large land estates
would be bought

The Symbolism Of Furniture In Poe s Walden
When one thinks of the word furniture, they usually think of this definition: The action of decorating
or embellishing ( Furniture, N. Def. 1b ). This definition has been in use since the 1500s and has
remained popular through today. A less popular and less known definition for furniture is the condition
of being equipped whether in body or mind; equipment in dress or armour; preparedness for action;
mental cultivation, culture ( Furniture, N. Def. 2b ). This definition was used during the antebellum
period in America and it seems that this was the definition that many of the writers from that era used,
particularly, Edgar Allan Poe in his story Ligeria, Henry David Theroux in his novel, Walden. It
seemed that they used furniture as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(and adj) ). Priests and religious ministers are solitary and a bridal chamber is supposed to be a space
that is shared by newlyweds. Likewise, the narrator describes censer that hangs from the ceiling. A
censer is a covered incense burner, usually swung from a chain at funerals ( Censer, N.1 ). By using a
censer rather than some other object, the narrator is moving from insinuating his grief through the use
of objects that connote solitude to literally furnishing the bridal chamber with objects that are used for
funerals. The narrator continues to employ the objects that are associated with funerals: He describes
gigantic sarcophagus of black granite. A sarcophagus is a kind of stone reputed among the Greeks to
have the property of consuming the flesh of dead bodies deposited in it, and consequently used for
coffins ( Sarcophagus, N ). Sarcophagi are markers of death and weddings are supposed to starts of
new beginnings, a start of a new life together. These illusions to death and solitude not only go against
what the reader thinks of a bridal chamber, but the standard bridal chambers of the antebellum period

The Marketing Strategy Of Whirlpool Corporation
In the United States, the cooking industry is a mature market with high penetration, therefore,
replacement product is significantly important to the industry. The United States has three major
manufacturers for domestic production; Whirlpool, General Electric, and Electrolux. The appliance
industry is changing and become more competitive with the influence of Asian competitors,
specifically, LG and Samsung is importing appliances into the United States. Subsequently, in January
2016, a Chinese manufacturer, Haier, bid for the purchase of General Electric Appliances, finalizing
the contract, Monday, June 6, 2016 (Thompson, 2016).
Whirlpool Corporation is the largest global manufacturer of home appliances (Innovation at the Pace
of Life, 2016). Although, Whirlpool is globally the largest manufacturer, they do not dominate all
markets, as they do in North America. In North America, Whirlpool s strength lies in a strong and vast
brand portfolio, consisting of seven brands (Fettig, 2016). In 2006, the United States Department of
Justice approved the acquisition of Maytag Corporation by Whirlpool (Henriques, 2006). The
acquisition served a two fold purpose, seating Whirlpool in the number one market share position in
North America and adding strong brands such as Maytag, Jenn Air, and Amana to the portfolio. A
series of acquisitions is accelerating growth for Whirlpool and ensuring global market leadership.
Whirlpool acquired manufacturer, Indesit, in Italy, which has

The Marketing Mix Of Pepsi
Marketing Mix of Coca Cola and Pepsi
One of the fiercest battles between brands through the years is the battle between Coke and Pepsi.
How effectively these brands market their products determine their market share. We learned in our
lesson that a brands marketing strategy is comprised several components called a marketing mix. The
marketing mix is composed of four areas; product, price, placement and promotion. Through many
years of success and failure these brands are ripe with illustrations of marketing successes and
failures. It is my desire to draw from these examples and describe each brands marketing mix. Let s
start with PepsiCo.
Product in the PepsiCo marketing mix
The marketing mix of PepsiCo (4P) is aimed at its wide range of products which have evolved over
time. This is mostly due to acquisitions of companies with different products bringing them all
together under the PepsiCo brand. Many of PepsiCo s current brands and products have been added to
the product mix via acquisitions. For example, snack products were added after Pepsi Cola acquired
Frito Lay in 1965 forming a new company PepsiCo (Our History). Because it is a global company the
differences between the markets also require changes to the marketing mix in each of its target
markets. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The places of distribution and sale are considered in this element of the marketing mix. Coke
distributes its products through retail stores and wholesalers. Most Coke products are available from
retailers, such as supermarkets, grocery stores and convenience stores. Coke also sells wholesale to
regional bottlers, restaurants and convenience store chains that distribute their products at soda
fountains or by the glass at restaurants. For a time most of the bottlers were company owned but the
company is refranchising all of their bottling operations (Five Strategic

Thomas Jefferson Pirates Chapter Summaries
Thomas Jefferson and the Tripoli Pirates is about the US Tripoli War of 1801 1805 that took place
during Jefferson s presidency. The book starts off with the newly independent United States facing the
difficulties of all the states that operated in the Mediterranean faced, which was the risk of trade
disruptions and capture by the Barbary States. The first four chapters talk about the efforts and
struggles the United States faced when dealing with Barbary during the 1780s and 1790s before war
actually breaks out in chapter five.
For years and years the leaders of Tripoli which is located in the Middle East had been taking over
merchant ships from either the Americans or the or the Europeans. The Tripoli pirates would take over

Crews from the ships would be held captive and tortured for years and months on end. The United
States tried their hardest to keep the peace in line but nothing was working. So the United States army
set off on the USS George Washington to Algerines and Tripoli to settle things. A man by the name of
Thomas Jefferson was inaugurated as president in the year of 1801 and not long after he would send
warships to Tripoli and confront the pirates face to face for their doings. This caused a blockade so no
pirates would be able to attack the merchant ships. What this action would do was not what Jefferson
thought would happen but as an outcome an all out war broke loose between Jefferson s army and the
Tripoli pirates and their allies. The war would go on and on off the coast. The blockade only held for
so long. Finally the pirates would make their way through and ships started to come up on shore. The
USS Philadelphia hit shore in Tripoli s harbor and the pirates captured it. A young navy member then
snuck onto the ship and set it on fire during an enemy gun fire, destroying any goods the pirates could
get their hands on or even stop them from rebuilding the ship and turning it against the United States
Navy. The war would continue for a while until finally peace agreements were made and the U.S
Navy fled the scene. This whole action by Jefferson showed braveness in not only him but the U.S
Navy to

My Goals For A Social Worker
I did not always want to be a Social Worker. I wanted to be a psychologist when I graduated high
school. My dreams for my career got put on hold because I became a single mother at a young age.
Raising my child on my own was the hardest and most important thing to me. It was not until the
Department of Children and Families (DCF) came and removed my niece from my sister s home,
when I realized what Social Work was. At that moment, I knew I wanted to help children the same
way the social workers do.
My educational career started when I was laid off from my job 5 years ago. Part of the severance
package that I received made it possible for me to collect unemployment until I finished my degree. I
earned my A.S. degree in Human Services, and am currently working on obtaining my B.S. in Social
Work, all while being a stay at home mom to a teenager. I have made the Dean s List for the past few
semesters and would like the opportunity to help others with all the services that are available for the
clients that are in need.
Social Work, as a profession, is a great fit for me. My interest in social work originates from having
the desire to be able to help children that are abused and neglected to find better homes and safe
environments. Helping foster children find loving families, so they can be loved and happy too. I
enjoy helping and making a difference in the lives of others. I have been so close to being homeless it
scared me so much. Helping the homeless, homeless veterans,

The Dangers Of Children On The Playground
Children on the playground are often quick to react to perceived violent actions by fellow youth.
Quips like You hit me so I will hit you can be heard. The children are all grown up now, their names
are America and the Soviet Union, and furthermore the stakes are immensely superior to a playground
squabble. In 1945, there was no doubt the Allies would win the wars versus Germany and Japan,
however, the unanswerable question was: How long, and how any lives, and how much destruction
would there be before the Axis powers capitulated Bridger, S. (2016)? Like children on the
playground, a dangerous game was played with the stakes of worldwide destruction. This tit for tat
preventative became known as mutually assured destruction (MAD) The A Bomb, made in America
with all its destructive power was inconceivable to many. However, after use on the cities of Nagasaki
and Hiroshima, and the horrific devastation which resulted, the world took notice. The A Bomb was
the new Playstaion, everyone kid wants the newest Playstation. Unfortunately the A Bomb is not a
game console, but a device unthinkable devastation. At the end of the 1960 s era movie called Dr.
Strangelove it depicts the lunacy of the mutually assured destruction concept, and the fragility of how
close to the brink of destruction the world is (Dr Strangelove, 2016). The movie ends with the actor
Slim Pickens riding atop an atomic bomb dropped in from an American B 52(Dr Strangelove, 2016) .

Separate Peace Theme
Law and order is a synonym for peace; however often to obtain peace law and order must be broken.
Though this is true, peace is not all encompassing. Not only can peace can be found in some parts of
life and lacking in others, but peace has many types that affect each part of daily life. A Separate Peace
by John Knowles explores the relationship between external and internal peace. When external
societal peace is disrupted people become willing to commit a kind of suicide by breaking the rules in
an effort to obtain inner peace. Daily life is heavily affected by different forms of peace. External
societal peace, is the peace that is not in an individual s control. For example, war, conflicts in
relationships, and random acts of violence are $$#Break#$$ Many rules that people are forced to
follow violate their own personal values and morals. As a result, when external peace is disrupted
people decide that it is alright to add to the disruption if their values would be upheld through doing
so. The text states, Phineas didn t really dislike West Point in particular or authority in general, but just
considered authority the necessary evil against which happiness was achieved by reaction, the
backboard which returned all the insults he threw at it (11). This quote contradicts the statement that
breaking the rules can enable someone to obtain inner peace because it states that authority returns
some sort of punishment any time you break the rules. This is true, and therefore supports the idea that
breaking the rules is a kind of suicide. In some cases the suicide can be literal. For example, Phineas
insists on jumping off the tree everyday to cope with the war. Surviving the jump everyday causes him
to achieve inner peace because it is a way of getting over his fear of going to the war. This is a literal
suicide because as shown later in the book the jump from the tree is very dangerous and ultimately
killed him. Breaking the rules can also be a metaphorical suicide because even though internal peace
is being met it causes other external peace to be disrupted. According to Merriam Webster dictionary,
the definition of suicide it the act of taking one s own life voluntarily as well as the ruin of one s own
interests. Gene breaks the rules and goes to the beach with Phineas for a night. This is a metaphorical;
kind of suicide because it is against his own interests when he fails his test the next day. Overall, this
illustrates how breaking the rules leads to a kind of

  • 3. The Struggle Of Women By The Sherlock Holmes Stories By... In crime fiction, many themes are encountered in crime stories, enabling the reader to reflect on the cultural and moral values of the society. These stories discuss various topics such as race, ethnicity, sexism, and femininity. In the Sherlock Holmes stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the independence of women is shown as a conflict in society that must be solved and controlled by men. This may be demonstrated by the poor representation of single women present in the Sherlock Holmes stories, such as Mary Morstan and Irene Adler who are considered as a problem in this society, because they do not have the presence of a male figure guiding them in their everyday lives. In the stories, the issues caused by these women are redundantly resolved by marrying a man. This implies an unacceptable prejudice towards the female gender. Firstly, in the stories, single women who are alone appear to be problematic due to the lack of men in their everyday lives. Mary Morstan is isolated, and must be saved by men, whereas Irene Adler is presented as being a scandalous woman who must be restrained. As Mary Morstan first approaches Holmes and Watson to state her case, she explains that her mother has deceased, her father has disappeared, and that she does not have any other family member close by to be there for her, therefore, she is alone. She says: My father was an Indian regiment, [...] My mother was dead, and I had no relative in England. (Conan Doyle, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. A Program Of Management And Leadership Development Essay If an organization has a track record of effective responsiveness to the environment, and if it has been able to successfully change the way it operates when needed, TQM will be easier to implement. If an organization has been historically reactive and has no skill at improving its operating systems, there will be both employee skepticism and a lack of skilled change agents. If this condition prevails, a comprehensive program of management and leadership development may be instituted. A management audit is a good assessment tool to identify current levels of organizational functioning and areas in need of change. An organization should be basically healthy before beginning TQM. If it has significant problems such as a very unstable funding base, weak administrative systems, lack of managerial skill, or poor employee morale, TQM would not be appropriate.5 However, a certain level of stress is probably desirable to initiate TQM. People need to feel a need for a change. Kanter (1983) addresses this phenomenon be describing building blocks which are present in effective organizational change. These forces include departures from tradition, a crisis or galvanizing event, strategic decisions, individual prime movers, and action vehicles. Departures from tradition are activities, usually at lower levels of the organization, which occur when entrepreneurs move outside the normal ways of operating to solve a problem. A crisis, if it is not too disabling, can also help create a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Memory System Essay example Memories are creative recollections of past experiences that are unique to each individual. They define us and give us our identity. Memories are a collection of information, which at one time was new to us, and as we learned and progressed, that information became stored as memory. The main fact to memory is that practice and repetition is a key asset to making the brain encode the information as memory. When the brain encodes this information it is stored, waiting to be retrieved. When we memorize something, it is stored for a certain amount of time in the brain, the more we recall this information the more familiar we become with it, making it easier to remember and recall later in life. The process of memory is still a mystery, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While yet it is the most complex process neuroscience has ever tried to define. Most theorists believe that the brain encodes information in two different types, motor skills memory and factual memory. Motor skills memory is the memorization of functions like running, walking, or eating. While factual memory is associated with the memorization of telephone number, names, places, and experiences. Some theorists believe this is the basic foundation to memories. Associated with these two types are three levels, Sensory memory, Short term memory, and Long term memory. Sensory memory is the level, which absorbs the things around us using the five main senses, sight, smell, touch, sound, and taste. This level of memory is thought to only last a matter of seconds, and only moves on to the next level if enough attention is given to the information. (Baddeley, 1976) If not enough attention is given to the information it is ignored by the brain and forgotten. (Howe, 1983) The second level of memory is the Short term memory. This level is believed to only have a capacity of 7 items, and have a duration time of no more than thirty seconds. (Bjork, 1996) When memories in the short term are used more and more it sends it to the next level, but again this is only done by practice or repetition. A way for most people to remember more things, in the short term is called Chunking. This is where someone will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even though these developments have made operations much less invasive, robotic systems have their own disadvantages that prevent them from replacing surgeons all together. Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) is a broad notion encompassing a lot of common procedures that existed prior to the introduction of robots. It refers to general procedures that keep away from long cuts by entering the body through small, usually about 1cm, entry incisions, through which surgeons use long handled instruments to operate on tissue inside the body. Such operations are directed by viewing equipment and, therefore, do not automatically need the use of a robot. Yet, it is not incorrect to say that computer assisted and robotic surgeries are categories that fall under minimally invasive surgery (Robotic Surgery, n.d.). A laparoscopic approach appears to be associated with a reduction in surgical trauma and blood loss. In addition, it is presumable that some of the benefits of minimally invasive surgery such as reduced analgesic requirements, a shorter recovery period and reduced hospital stay (Kuhry, 2005). It has become a forerunner in the quest of improving surgical results by dropping postoperative pain and lessening recovery time. The author uses the Moths to add a sordid tone as the rest of the novel is taking place. • 25. Essay The American with Disabilities Act As stated by the founding fathers of America All men are created equal. Black, white, brown, short, tall, smart, and dumb, all are created equally. Therefore every person deserves fair judgement. Unfortunately, it is a profound fact that not everyone is born normal and capable of task typical for a common person, who is free from disability. In my opinion, the quote All men are created equal serves to promote a friendly environment that helps encourage equality among people and aids to recognize the similarities rather than the differences that separates men. Even so, with this hope, the disabled community still struggles for equality. According to Legal Rights by the National Association of the Deaf (NAD), Almost 10 percent of all ... If a deaf or hard of hearing employee can pass the essential part of the job qualification, he or she is protected by the ADA to be hired. Also, the ADA prohibits employers to discriminate disabled people in means of recruitment, job applications procedures, pay rates, and promotions. The second title, Title II, Requires all state and local government agencies to make all of their services accessible to individuals with disability (NAD 22). • 27. The Impact Of Modern Public Sphere On The Middle East During the 19th century the Middle East found themselves with a problem of establishing an identity or nationalism. Through defensive developmentalism the Middle East had sought to counter the imperialistic approach of the West, yet still begin to modernize their land. The world was developing rapidly and the Middle East wanted to ensure that they did not fall behind. However, the approach backfired and the Middle East found themselves struggling to establish their own modern identity and falling victim to becoming more like the Europeans. Many new ideas and new movements developed through Middle Easterners, some wanted to modernize and began to fuse European and Arabic tradition, while others wanted to re establish Islamic tradition. Most detrimental to these new ideas and movements was the emergence of the modern public sphere. The modern public sphere flowed into all aspects of these new movements and had many effects on the Middle East. In essence, this idea of modernization would combine with the imperialism of European thoughts, as well as components of the industrial revolution and would lay the foundation for the fusing of the Europeans with Islamic traditions. When the Ottoman government decided to institute the Ottoman Law Code of 1858, they did more than enable people to more land. It was an action that would create a new social class in the Middle East. With this new law, people begun to acquire new land. Although, over time large land estates would be bought ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. The Symbolism Of Furniture In Poe s Walden When one thinks of the word furniture, they usually think of this definition: The action of decorating or embellishing ( Furniture, N. Def. 1b ). This definition has been in use since the 1500s and has remained popular through today. A less popular and less known definition for furniture is the condition of being equipped whether in body or mind; equipment in dress or armour; preparedness for action; mental cultivation, culture ( Furniture, N. Def. 2b ). This definition was used during the antebellum period in America and it seems that this was the definition that many of the writers from that era used, particularly, Edgar Allan Poe in his story Ligeria, Henry David Theroux in his novel, Walden. Priests and religious ministers are solitary and a bridal chamber is supposed to be a space that is shared by newlyweds. Likewise, the narrator describes censer that hangs from the ceiling. A censer is a covered incense burner, usually swung from a chain at funerals ( Censer, N.1 ). By using a censer rather than some other object, the narrator is moving from insinuating his grief through the use of objects that connote solitude to literally furnishing the bridal chamber with objects that are used for funerals. The narrator continues to employ the objects that are associated with funerals: He describes gigantic sarcophagus of black granite. A sarcophagus is a kind of stone reputed among the Greeks to have the property of consuming the flesh of dead bodies deposited in it, and consequently used for coffins ( Sarcophagus, N ). • 30. The Marketing Strategy Of Whirlpool Corporation In the United States, the cooking industry is a mature market with high penetration, therefore, replacement product is significantly important to the industry. The United States has three major manufacturers for domestic production; Whirlpool, General Electric, and Electrolux. The appliance industry is changing and become more competitive with the influence of Asian competitors, specifically, LG and Samsung is importing appliances into the United States. Subsequently, in January 2016, a Chinese manufacturer, Haier, bid for the purchase of General Electric Appliances, finalizing the contract, Monday, June 6, 2016 (Thompson, 2016). Whirlpool Corporation is the largest global manufacturer of home appliances (Innovation at the Pace of Life, 2016). Although, Whirlpool is globally the largest manufacturer, they do not dominate all markets, as they do in North America. In North America, Whirlpool s strength lies in a strong and vast brand portfolio, consisting of seven brands (Fettig, 2016). In 2006, the United States Department of Justice approved the acquisition of Maytag Corporation by Whirlpool (Henriques, 2006). The acquisition served a two fold purpose, seating Whirlpool in the number one market share position in North America and adding strong brands such as Maytag, Jenn Air, and Amana to the portfolio. • 32. The Marketing Mix Of Pepsi Marketing Mix of Coca Cola and Pepsi One of the fiercest battles between brands through the years is the battle between Coke and Pepsi. How effectively these brands market their products determine their market share. We learned in our lesson that a brands marketing strategy is comprised several components called a marketing mix. The marketing mix is composed of four areas; product, price, placement and promotion. Through many years of success and failure these brands are ripe with illustrations of marketing successes and failures. It is my desire to draw from these examples and describe each brands marketing mix. Let s start with PepsiCo. Product in the PepsiCo marketing mix The marketing mix of PepsiCo (4P) is aimed at its wide range of products which have evolved over time. This is mostly due to acquisitions of companies with different products bringing them all together under the PepsiCo brand. Many of PepsiCo s current brands and products have been added to the product mix via acquisitions. For example, snack products were added after Pepsi Cola acquired Frito Lay in 1965 forming a new company PepsiCo (Our History). The United States tried their hardest to keep the peace in line but nothing was working. So the United States army set off on the USS George Washington to Algerines and Tripoli to settle things. A man by the name of Thomas Jefferson was inaugurated as president in the year of 1801 and not long after he would send warships to Tripoli and confront the pirates face to face for their doings. This caused a blockade so no pirates would be able to attack the merchant ships. What this action would do was not what Jefferson thought would happen but as an outcome an all out war broke loose between Jefferson s army and the Tripoli pirates and their allies. The war would go on and on off the coast. The blockade only held for so long. Finally the pirates would make their way through and ships started to come up on shore. The USS Philadelphia hit shore in Tripoli s harbor and the pirates captured it. A young navy member then snuck onto the ship and set it on fire during an enemy gun fire, destroying any goods the pirates could get their hands on or even stop them from rebuilding the ship and turning it against the United States Navy. The war would continue for a while until finally peace agreements were made and the U.S Navy fled the scene. This whole action by Jefferson showed braveness in not only him but the U.S Navy to ... • 34. My Goals For A Social Worker I did not always want to be a Social Worker. I wanted to be a psychologist when I graduated high school. My dreams for my career got put on hold because I became a single mother at a young age. Raising my child on my own was the hardest and most important thing to me. It was not until the Department of Children and Families (DCF) came and removed my niece from my sister s home, when I realized what Social Work was. At that moment, I knew I wanted to help children the same way the social workers do. My educational career started when I was laid off from my job 5 years ago. Part of the severance package that I received made it possible for me to collect unemployment until I finished my degree. I earned my A.S. degree in Human Services, and am currently working on obtaining my B.S. in Social Work, all while being a stay at home mom to a teenager. I have made the Dean s List for the past few semesters and would like the opportunity to help others with all the services that are available for the clients that are in need. Social Work, as a profession, is a great fit for me. My interest in social work originates from having the desire to be able to help children that are abused and neglected to find better homes and safe environments. Helping foster children find loving families, so they can be loved and happy too. I enjoy helping and making a difference in the lives of others. • 35. The Dangers Of Children On The Playground Children on the playground are often quick to react to perceived violent actions by fellow youth. Quips like You hit me so I will hit you can be heard. The children are all grown up now, their names are America and the Soviet Union, and furthermore the stakes are immensely superior to a playground squabble. In 1945, there was no doubt the Allies would win the wars versus Germany and Japan, however, the unanswerable question was: How long, and how any lives, and how much destruction would there be before the Axis powers capitulated Bridger, S. (2016)? Like children on the playground, a dangerous game was played with the stakes of worldwide destruction. This tit for tat preventative became known as mutually assured destruction (MAD) The A Bomb, made in America with all its destructive power was inconceivable to many. However, after use on the cities of Nagasaki and Hiroshima, and the horrific devastation which resulted, the world took notice. The A Bomb was the new Playstaion, everyone kid wants the newest Playstation. Unfortunately the A Bomb is not a game console, but a device unthinkable devastation. At the end of the 1960 s era movie called Dr. Strangelove it depicts the lunacy of the mutually assured destruction concept, and the fragility of how close to the brink of destruction the world is (Dr Strangelove, 2016). • 36. Separate Peace Theme Law and order is a synonym for peace; however often to obtain peace law and order must be broken. Though this is true, peace is not all encompassing. Not only can peace can be found in some parts of life and lacking in others, but peace has many types that affect each part of daily life. A Separate Peace by John Knowles explores the relationship between external and internal peace. When external societal peace is disrupted people become willing to commit a kind of suicide by breaking the rules in an effort to obtain inner peace. Daily life is heavily affected by different forms of peace. External societal peace, is the peace that is not in an individual s control. For example, war, conflicts in relationships, and random acts of violence are $$#Break#$$ Many rules that people are forced to follow violate their own personal values and morals. As a result, when external peace is disrupted people decide that it is alright to add to the disruption if their values would be upheld through doing so. The text states, Phineas didn t really dislike West Point in particular or authority in general, but just considered authority the necessary evil against which happiness was achieved by reaction, the backboard which returned all the insults he threw at it (11). This quote contradicts the statement that breaking the rules can enable someone to obtain inner peace because it states that authority returns some sort of punishment any time you break the rules. This is true, and therefore supports the idea that breaking the rules is a kind of suicide. In some cases the suicide can be literal. For example, Phineas insists on jumping off the tree everyday to cope with the war. Surviving the jump everyday causes him to achieve inner peace because it is a way of getting over his fear of going to the war. This is a literal suicide because as shown later in the book the jump from the tree is very dangerous and ultimately killed him. Breaking the rules can also be a metaphorical suicide because even though internal peace is being met it causes other external peace to be disrupted. According to Merriam Webster dictionary, the definition of suicide it the act of taking one s own life voluntarily as well as the ruin of one s own interests. Gene breaks the rules and goes to the beach with Phineas for a night. This is a metaphorical; kind of suicide because it is against his own interests when he fails his test the next day. Overall, this illustrates how breaking the rules leads to a kind of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
