Starbucks Fixed Cost
In regards to the company Starbucks, their cost of production includes the cost of coffee beans, milk,
plastic products, advertising, rent and labor. When thinking about the high price of Starbucks coffee
customers should consider the cost of what goes into the coffee, Howard Schultz said I am concerned
about dairy, both domestically and around the world, and we are working feverishly with our
suppliers, (and to) identify new suppliers (Thomnson, R. 2014). When it comes to the price of coffee,
prices recently hit a two year high due to crop damaging drought in Brazil, the top producer
(Thomnson, R. 2014). This has a huge impact on the price consumers pay for their coffee.
The determinants of Starbucks profitability over time are variable costs and fixed costs. A variable
cost is a cost that change in direct proportion to a change in the level of activity (Pearson, 2016) .
Variable costs for Starbucks would include labor, coffee beans, dairy, and plastic products. A fixed
cost is indirect costs of business expenses that remain unchanged (Pearson, 2016). Fixed costs for
Starbucks include rent, taxes, and insurance as well as advertising. In the figure below (fig 1) we have
Starbucks financial data in millions for the year of 2015. This figure includes their operating expenses,
net revenues, such as company operated stores, licensed stores, CPG, food service. It also includes
their total net revenues and their balance sheet. As we can see Operating costs dropped in the

Tesla Financial Ratios
Before assessing Tesla s financial ratios analysis with peers, it is essential to mention, that companies
in early steps of their establishment are not immediately comparable to other companies in the
industry. However, historical performance of older companies provides valuable information about
Tesla s future earnings potential. In the evaluation of the company s performance, we will be
evaluating its growth and performance in the last four years when they went public. Historically, Tesla
had a negative ROIC and their ROE was lower than its peers in the market, all other companies their

Gummy Bear Hypothesis For Osmosis
Introduction:
Osmosis is a natural occurrence constantly happening within the cells of all living things. For osmosis
to occur, water molecules must move across a semipermeable membrane from an area of low
concentration to an are of high concentration. In order to understand osmosis, people must understand
the different types of concentrations that can be present within solution. One of them is an Isotonic
solution where the concentration of dissolved particles is equal to that of a cell s. Another is a
hypertonic solution where there is a higher concentration of dissolved particles then inside the cell.
And lastly there is a hypotonic solution where there are less dissolved particles than inside the cell. As
dissolved particles move to a region of lower concentration, water moves the opposite direction as a
result of there being less water in the highly concentrated region. In this experiment, gummy bears
were placed in salt water, sugar water, and tap water to find the measure of osmosis between the
solution and gummy bear.
Hypothesis:
If the gummy bear is added to the solution, then it will lose its coloring and expand.
Materials:
The materials used during the experiment included three plastic cups, three gummy bears, masking
tape, marker, balance, calculator, tray, one plastic spoon, a measurement tray, and a ruler. The three
plastic cups were used to hold the tap water, salt water, and sugar water. The masking tape and marker
were used to label each cup with the

The Bet By Anton Chekhov Analysis
The Bet , by Anton Chekhov, is an original story that is about a Banker and a Lawyer. Chekhov uses
many elements of literature to show that society s opinion on prison has different viewpoints. Through
this story Chekhov writes about two modern sides of prison, capital punishment and life
imprisonment. He writes about a Banker and a Lawyer that set a foolish bet of two million dollars for
fifteen years in solitary confinement. Anton Chekhov, shows this story through characterization and
imagery. The first literary element Chekhov uses is imagery. Chekhov uses imagery powerfully to
express particular point within the story. In the twenty ninth paragraph, the Banker walks in on the
Lawyer and notices, He was a skeleton with the skin drawn tight over his bones, with long curls like a
woman s and a shaggy beard. His face was yellow with an earthy tint in it, his cheeks were hollow, his
back long and narrow, and the hand on which his shaggy head was propped was so thin and delicate
that it was dreadful to look at it. His hair was already streaked with silver, and seeing his emaciated,
aged looking face, no one would have believed that he was only forty. (Chekhov). Chekhov uses
breathtaking imagery to show the reader that this aged, worn out, forty year old man, was once the
young lawyer. This description helps provide the reader with a strong image of how the weary young
man has changed and evolved into a pitiful and demented man since he has been in solitary
confinement. Once the Lawyer is found lying asleep the Banker notices a note, in this note the Lawyer
states, I have heard the singing of the sirens, and the strains of the shepherds pipes; I have touched the
wings of comely devils who flew down to converse with me of God... In your books I have flung
myself into the bottomless pit, performed miracles, slain, burned towns, preached new religions,
conquered whole kingdoms. (Chekhov). The Lawyer writes this imagery in his letter to explain why
he has chosen to leave the house before the bet was up. Chekhov also writes, When the banker had
read this he laid the page on the table, kissed the strange man on the head, and went out of the lodge,
weeping. At no other time, even when he had

Compare And Contrast Grant And Lee
The two generals in the Civil War were Ulysses S. Grant, who commanded the Union Army, and
Robert E. Lee, who commanded the Confederate Army. The two commanding generals were similar in
many ways, but were also very different. For example, General Ulysses S. Grant and General Robert
E. Lee both graduated from West Point Military Academy, but Grant graduated twenty first in a class
of thirty four in 1843, while Lee graduated second in his class of 1829. Another example would be
that Grant had a reputation for being a tough fighter in battle who would never give up; while Lee was
known for his knowledge in being able to know how to move an army quickly over many miles and
had a great sense of when to attack and when to withdraw. Individuals who ... Show more content on

Johnston would then attack the patrol, by driving the surprised bluecoats back near Shiloh Church.
Throughout the day, the Confederates battered the Union army, driving it back towards Pittsburg
Landing and threatening to trap it against the Tennessee River. many troops on both sides had no
experience in battle. The chances for a complete Confederate victory diminished as troops from Buell
s army began arriving and Grant s command on the battlefield shored up the sagging Union line. Later
in the middle of the afternoon, Johnston rode forward to direct the Confederate attack and was struck
in the leg by a bullet, severing an artery and causing him to quickly bleed to death. General Pierre G.
T. Beauregard assumed control, and halted the advance at nightfall. The Union army was driven back,
but it did not back. Later that day, Grant was joined by the vanguard of the Buell s army. With an
advantage in terms of troop numbers, Grant counterattacked on April 7. The tired Confederates slowly
retreated, but they inflicted heavy casualties on the Yankees. By nightfall, the Union was able to drive
the Confederates back to Shiloh Church, recapturing grisly reminders of the previous day s battle such
as the Hornet s Nest, the Peach Orchard and Bloody Pond. The Confederates finally limped back to
Corinth, thus giving a major victory to

Adolescent Suicide Is A Preventable Public Health Issue
Introduction
Although most of the media attention focuses on adolescent homicide, suicide deaths should have us
more alarmed, and we should understand that adolescent suicide is a preventable public health issue.
In adolescent Suicide deaths are more prevalent than homicide deaths (CDC, 2012). According to the
National Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Web based Injury Statistics Query and Reporting System
(WISQARS), suicide is the second leading cause of death for adolescents age 13 to 17 (CDC, 2016).
That number surpasses the number of deaths due to chronic diseases such as cancer, HIV, and
diabetes. While this is a significant number, not all suicide attempts are reported (Joiner, 2005).
Furthermore, suicide accounted for 10 % of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Durkheim, 1951, Danigelis, Pope,1979).
Shneidman s theory of psychache argues suicide is caused by a certain kind of psychological pain.
Risk factors increases psychache which leads an individual to suicidality (Shneidman, 1993). The pain
is so unbearable to an individual that the only way to relieve it is suicide. Baumeister s escape theory
of suicide believes certain steps promotes suicide, 1) individuals perception of expectations and actual
events are more negative, 2) an aversive self awareness develops, (individual focuses on negative
aspects of them self and become depressed) 3) in an attempt to escape the effects from the first two
steps an individual goes into a state of cognitive deconstruction (.Baumeister, 1990) This reduces
inhibition which leads to a lack of impulse control.
These theories focus more on the emotional and psychological aspect of suicide. They seem to identify
what causes the suicide ideation. However, it does not explain how one goes from emotion to action.
Just because someone has thought about suicide, does not mean they will attempt suicide, they need to
have the acquired capability (lack of fear of dying) in order to attempt suicide (Joiner, 2005, Van
Orden et al.,). Suicide is a very difficult act, it requires you to go against the self preservation you
have been programmed with (Ohman Mineka, 2001).

Sensitive Period In Critical Period
Introduction
It is commonly accepted that the earlier people start learning a language, the more successful they will
be. However, it is difficult to ascertain how much intertwined language acquisition and age really are.
The concept of a sensitive period , which is a phase during development when learning a particular
skill can occur more effectively than later on in life, is well known in nature. A few examples are
imprinting in ducks and song learning for songbirds (Clark 2009). The sensitive period is sometimes
regarded as critical, implying that, once it is past, that specific skill can no longer be learnt.
The idea that human language is normally acquired during a critical period was first proposed by
Lenneberg, with the Critical Period Hypothesis (CPH). Considering data regarding recovery from
aphasia, Lenneberg (1967) hypothesized that language learning could only occur during a critical
period, starting from age two until twelve. This happens as the lateralization of the brain, which is the
specialization of the left hemisphere for language, is by then considered to be complete. Therefore, the
critical period is used to explain the reason why the automatic acquisition from mere exposure to a
given language seems to disappear after this age [puberty] and foreign accents cannot be overcome
easily after puberty (Lenneberg 1967: 176). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This essay aims to discuss the evidence concerning the CPH and to reflect upon its implications for
language learning. I will first consider feral children and then second language acquisition as ways of
testing the CPH, followed by the main causes of current dissent. Finally, I will conclude that the
existence of a critical period remains inconclusive and suggest that a sensible period is more

Harley-Davidson Economic System
The different economic systems
There are four main classifications of the economic system: mixed economy, socialism, capitalism,
and communism.
A mixed economy is a mixture of capitalism and socialism. Personal possession of large company is
probable; there is just a higher amount of taxation on these businesses. This is common economic
structure as most established or emerging countries have implemented it, including the United States
of America. Meanwhile America has free market abilities with tolerable government influence, as
opposite to comprehensive or nonexistent intrusion, all methods of business could grow in a sensibly
modest manner.
Next would be socialism, a minor step up from communism as it identifies that most companies

Harley Davidson has succeeded in many other countries apart from America because of its steady
supply chain and desirable prices. The countries it may have failed in either already had an
inexpensive product or its supply was weakened by small commercial dealers. If Harley Davidson did
not start or spread through varied economies, it would be a totally changed company today. If Harley
Davidson were started and operated in an unadulterated capitalist economy, there would be no
boundaries. No boundary on what it could retail, and for what amount. No quality requirements for
imported and exported products. No minimum limits for supervisors and they could fire anyone they
deemed unfit for any reason. The laws in place that guard customers and employees from careless
business practices would not apply in a country that has no part in the choices companies make.
Businesses would have more control than the government and Harley Davidson Motorcycle Company
would be the only company

Comparing Eysenck s Theory Of Personality And Costa And...
Guilford (1959) defines personality traits as being any distinguishable, relatively enduring way in
which one individual varies from another . Subsequently, trait theory can be identified as an approach
to the study of human personality. The aim of psychologists, specifically trait theorists, is to explain
similarities and differences between individuals based on traits. Although numerous psychologists
differ on the amount of traits that are significant, each theorist categorizes personality traits along
several broad type spectrums. This assignment will focus on comparing and contrasting Eysenck s
Hierarchical Theory of Personality and Costa and McRae s Five Factor Model (FFM), two different
trait theories of personality.
Hans Eysenck, a psychologist well known in the field of personality based his trait theory on
biological explanations; whereby he believed genetic and biological factors were significant elements
of personality (Eysenck 1990). Eysenck also held the view that an individual s personality traits, or
what he referred to as temperament was an exact result of one s genetic make up (Chamorro Premuzic
Furnham, 2005). Eysenck encompassed the idea that there was a need to highlight the significant
dimensions of personality, create a way in which they could be measured and then link them with
experimental procedures. Subsequently, Eysenck developed a model of personality based on a
theoretical and statistical approach to the classification of traits. This is

The Three Joys and One Misfortune
The Three Joys and One Misfortune Paresse Pereza was a lazy woman who never worked. In her
childhood and adolescence, she did not finish her homework or chores and did not attend school; even
after becoming an adult, she stayed in her house, completely depending on her parents for everything.
Her appearance, however, was very charming. She had beautiful golden hair that landed softly on her
back and bluish emerald eyes that glowed when reflected on sunlight. She always wore a black one
piece as if attending a funeral, and anyone who had seen her would say that they had a good first
impression of her.
After Paresse s parents whom she was wholly relying on died, the young woman became homeless
and impoverished, since she did not have any inheritance from her parents. Although she was
struggling in poverty, Paresse remained idle and did not even think about getting a job or a house. One
day, Paresse was wandering around her neighborhood, hoping to find some food to eat. Her charming
appearance had disappeared: her smooth golden hair became rough and dirty, and her beautiful
emerald eyes seemed to turn into a dull khaki color, due to her stained face. Her black one piece had
turned into a chunk of ragged fabric, and she had blisters on her feet since she wore no shoes.
As she walked aimlessly, she inadvertently arrived at a gargantuan forest called The Dark Forest.
There was a rumor about a prophet who lived inside the forest and made anyone s wish come true.

Top 40 Richest Families in Pakistan

Charles Dickens, the son of John and Elizabeth Dickens, was born in Landport on 7th February 1812.
John Dickens worked as a clerk at the Navy pay office in Portsmouth. He later found work in
Chatham and Charles, the second of seven children, went to the local school.
John Dickens found it difficult to provide for his growing family on his meager income. In 1822 the
family moved to Camden Town in London. John Dickens debts had become so severe that all the
household goods were sold. Still unable to satisfy his creditors, John Dickens was arrested and sent to

Unlike most radical newspapers such as the Poor Man s Guardian and The Gauntlet, the True Sun did
pay the 4d. stamp duty.
Despite having to charge the heavy tax imposed on newspapers, the True Sun sold 30,000 copies a
day. In his articles, Dickens used his considerable knowledge of what went on in the House of
Commons to help promote the cause of parliamentary reform. Charles Dickens was pleased when
Parliament eventually agreed to pass the 1832 Reform Act, however, like most radicals, he thought it
did not go far enough. The new reformed House of Commons passed a series of new measures
including a reduction in newspaper tax from 4d. to 1d. As a result, the circulation of the True Sun
increased to over 60,000.
In 1833 Dickens had his first story published in the Monthly Magazine. Using the pen name of Boz ,
Dickens also began contributing short stories to the Morning Chronicle and the Evening Chronicle.
These stories were so popular that they were collected together and published as a book entitled
Sketches by Boz (1836).
The publisher, William Hall, now commissioned Dickens to write The Pickwick Papers in twenty
monthly installments. This was followed by Oliver Twist, published in Bentley s Miscellany (1837 38)
and Nicholas Nickleby (1838 39), also published monthly. Dickens was now the most popular writer
in Britain and over the next few years he wrote a series of popular

Powers Of Monarch
The article The Powers of Monarch in England was about the state of the monarchy is the highest
thing on earth. There are three main ideas about the state of Monarchy, which are delivering the Word
of God, establishments of policy and philosophy. Kings were treated as gods and even in the scriptures
were referred to as gods. The reason kings were called and treated as if they were god is that they
exercise their power upon the place they were ruled by deciding on major actions. For example, kings
could decide on anything like sentencing someone to death, creating or destroy anything, being a
judge, and anything godlike at the king s desire. The article goes on and talks about how the
succession of the king could be changed at the king s request. Therefore, if the king thought his oldest
son was not fit enough for the throne the king would give his inheritance to the youngest instead. The
kings used their judgment on anything they thought was more convenient for themselves than others.

everything and is considered godlike. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

administration remains objective and core principles of reform are divorced from any values and/or

The Arguments In The Downside Of Grit, By Alfie Kohn
The idea of grit is to be used to help students improve on goals they ve made, but in the The Downside
of Grit by Alfie Kohn he would argue that somethings are better left alone instead of trying to pursue
them and achieving them with little success. Kohn claims that grit can be counterproductive because
anyone could be continuing something that doesn t make them content with the outcome. He also
discusses about how people with grit could experience issues with psychological health when you try
over and over again and end up with continuous failure. It would be better to find an alternative
pathway that would cause less stress, and end with success. Another argument that Kohn has is against

He also approaches the idea of creating a learning environment that help students explore ideas. This

through with a goal they might not enjoy. Kohn makes it clear that you shouldn t go through with a
goal if it doesn t give you satisfaction. Kohn also states that the motives of your goal should come first
before you take action. Kohn states that grit is applied more to students than adults for completing
academic goals, but fails to mention how grit can be applied outside of school. Alfie Kohn explains
that there is no point in continuing with a problem that has no solution, just like how you shouldn t

Bi-Partisan Concern
Bi Partisan Concern
When it comes to political issues people often think, whether someone is a Republican or Democrat,
that politicians have to back their parties legislation no matter what, and that politicians despise each
other if someone is not of the same party affiliation as them. In some cases this could be true;
however, everything is not always black and white, and there are a lot of gray areas when it comes to
some issues. With certain matters, Republicans and Democrats can lay their differences aside and
come together for a cause; human sex trafficking just so happens to be one of those concerns. Along
with multiple other pieces of bipartisan legislation that has been introduced in the past, one that was

towards putting an end to human sex trafficking, gives a great look into what some potential red flags
can be. Some of the warning signs can include, a person under the age of 18 (but possibly older)
performing sex acts for a pimp or manager. Another sign could be a person who is full of constant fear
and anxiety, avoiding eye contact and not being free to leave and do things that they want. If someone
shows signs of sexual abuse or torture, these are signs that they need help. These are just a few of the
many warning signs and red flags that could potentially show that someone is a victim of human sex
trafficking. This can no longer be ignored. There are resources available for past and present victims

Stanley Gault Research Paper
WOOSTER Stanley Gault was remembered as a faithful husband, caring father, successful
businessman, generous philanthropist, committed Christian and lover of this community Saturday
during funeral services for the former Rubbermaid CEO at Wooster United Methodist Church.
Sons Stephen and Chris Gault, longtime friend Ron Holtman, the Rev. Charles Tobias and Deborah
Hoover shared memories of Stanley Gault, who died June 29 at the Cleveland Clinic. He was 90.
We come together in grief, Tobias said, but through the course of the service and his message shared
how Stanley Gault was now in a heavenly home prepared for him by Jesus. And, he was now reunited
with his wife, Flo, who died April 16, 2013.
Stephen Gault said it was gratifying to see so many wonderful people from near and far who arranged
their schedules to celebrate the life of his father. He shared a series of stories about ... Show more

There was another time his father caught a great walleye, but Stephen failed to string it to the side of
the boat, and it swam off. Both occasions were followed by a vigorous Stanley Gault lecture, though
in the second one his dad used shorter words.
There was a time when Stanley Gault was grilling hot dogs at the cabin in Canada for family and
construction workers who were building an addition. While eating, he talked about how he had just sat
next to Lee Iacocca when he retired from Chrysler and had spent time with Prince Rainier of Monaco
and princesses Caroline and Stephanie.
Everyone there was in amazement, but Stanley Gault pivoted the conversation. All of a sudden, the
discussion became all about the construction workers, their lives and their thoughts.
He treated everyone with dignity and respect, Stephen Gault said.
Chris Gault said his father would be the first to admit he never really got over his wife s death. They

Definition Of Liberation Hermeneutics
tion of liberation theology. The option functions as a hermeneutical tool for interpreting reality and
theological sources.
It is therefore appropriate to introduce liberation hermeneutics as distinct from liberation theology
within the broad arena of social scientific interest in the Bible within which several sub disciplines
have taken on whole lives of their own, both in the sheer volume of literature published and in the
ideological stances they represent.

hermeneutics
Liberation theology experience DEVELOPMENT OF LIBERATION HERMENEUTICS
Liberation hermeneutics developed a three part agenda. In opposition to the stated objectives of many
forms of classical theology, experience takes precedence over theory. The dominant experience of a
majority of people in the two thirds world, in which liberation theology emerged, is the experience of
poverty suffering malnutrition, lack of access to basic human rights, education, clean water, medicine
and the like. Hence first, a liberation hermeneutics begins with the experience of the injustice of
poverty. Second it attempts to analyse or assess the reasons of this impoverished existence. Third,
actions take precedence over rhetoric. Liberationists seek to determine a cause of corrective measures
based on their previous observations, insights and judgments. In the liberation hermeneutic, the Bible
does not normally come into play in step one of the three part agenda outlined above but only to aid in
steps two

The potential for sensitive dependence on initial conditions, in other words, the Butterfly Effect , is the
theory Edward Lorenz introduced in 1963. This theory stated that a butterfly could flap its wings and
set air molecules in motion that, in turn, would move other air molecules which would then move
additional air molecules eventually becoming able to influence a volcano on the other side of the
planet. This seems at first something very unrealistic but has been proven true by the study of weather

If you put your mind to it, and work everyday a little for it, you will surely become successful.
Put in mind to always simplify your goals, yes a person should dream big, but should always be
realistic. If you put so many goals in front of you, be sure nothing will be achieved, after all, it is the
butterfly effect, a small change becomes a big one.
When you make a small change every day it will become a habit and you will no longer feel you are
forcing something, it will happen spontaneously. And later on you can start another small dream of
yours through another change and you will notice how these small changes add up to big benefits over
time.
These small changes always start within you with the simplest tasks in your daily routine, wake up

benefit from, but you cannot simply and suddenly decide such things, a person should always be

African American Identity Of Resistance
Hudecek 1 Niko Hudecek The Identity of Resistance The humanity of African slaves was completely
annihilated on their transatlantic journeys to America. Stolen of everything tying them to their former
lives, enslaved Africans who didn t suffer physical death on slave ships often faced a social death that
utterly devastated their sense of identity. (Smallwood, 30) Replacing this void of identity came the
institutional force of commodification. But there were many ways that African Americans resisted this
dehumanising force and the institution of slavery. Thus, African American identity in early American
history evolved as African Americans resisted against commodification and the institution of slavery.

The moral leverage of military service was an effective method of gaining manumission from slavery,
but participation in the Revolutionary War provided a special opportunity for the evolution and
division of African American identity. (Lecture, 4/25/18) Most African Americans chose to side with
the British, in resistance to the nation that enslaved them. But despite initial bans on black military
service in the Continental Army, thousands of African Americans fought and died for the patriots and,
ironically, their message of freedom. (Holton, 10) Patriotism gave African Americans a new political
identity and turned them from slave to American. The language of the Revolution also provided
African Americans with a way to express their long standing grievances domestically. (5) The ideals
of liberty and natural rights sparked sharp increases of black petitions for freedom and the abolition of
slavery. (16) Enslaved African Americans started to have a legal voice that distinctly shifted from
arguments of earned freedom to more of rightful freedom.

The Artist And The Work
Everything you can imagine is real. There are many visual artists, composers and writers we could
pass on the street and never recognize them. Yet we are still curious. There is something about
artmaking that draws us to it but it seems so foreign to our own lives. We want to know more about
these seemingly special people who can accomplish these unique things. We can t help but conflate
the two. The artist and the work. Well, to some extent, an artist s work is always about the artist. How
can it be otherwise, since they have no other source but themselves?
When we look or hear art, we only see and hear artist, because that is all we can see it s all we have to
work with. The problem with art is, because we love it so much, we put the artists who created it on
pedestals and we believe they cannot fail because, in some corner of our mind, we ve formed a
relationship with them and their product, and for us to discover them as imperfect shatters the illusion.
We have made a god in our mind where there is only a human, as flawed and imperfect as ourselves,
but what that piece of art they created gave us, in that moment in time, was pure love, joy and
satisfaction. The art didn t do anything wrong to you. The art shouldn t be punished. Say what you will
of the artist, but the product they produced and that you love shouldn t be demeaned if it made you
happy for one moment in time.
Can we separate the art from the artist? Only ethical answer is? No. Most people like Roman

The Origin Of Diversity Within Species
According to Charles Darwin, he suggested that all organisms were descendants from a common
ancestor that was once existed in the past (Darwin 1859). As organisms share a lot of common
characteristics due to common ancestry, the history of evolution of different species can be known
through comparing how closely their genes and body structures were. The more similar those
characteristics are, the more closely related those species is. However there is a wide range of
diversity between every single species and between every single individual. Diversification allows
organisms to occupy different niches in the ecosystem. In this essay, the origin of diversity within

Origin of diversity between species
A common ancestor gave rise to all organisms on earth. However, every individual species developed
their own distinct character that allows them to play a specific role in the ecosystem. Diversity is
caused as species are being isolated by geographic barriers or by sexual selection. The diversity
between species can be present as there is a difference in the species heritable trait. Those organisms
that contain an advantageous allele that allows them to be better adapted to the environment survive
and reproduce. As a result, the advantageous allele will be inherited by the offspring and the frequency
of the advantageous allele will increase within the population. In the example of Strepsirhini, it was
one of the linages that was evolved form the earliest primates together with tarsiers (e.g. monkeys and
apes) (Hickman, et al. 2011). When Madagascar was separated from the southeast coast of Africa at
about 120million years ago, the Madagasy prosimians where separated from the rest of the population
of apes and monkeys. The Madagasy prosimians where geographically isolated form the rest of the

Factors Affecting The Intake Of Fruits From Trees Essay
Check referencing and put scientific names of table in annex 1 into italics Chapter 5
The availability, accessibility, utilization and stability factors affecting the intake of fruits from trees in
forest areas in Cameroon
Introduction and problem
In sub Saharan Africa, just under one in every four people, or 23.2 percent of the population, is
estimated to be undernourished in 2014 16 (FAO et al., 2015). This is the highest prevalence of
undernourishment for any region in the World and, with about 220 million hungry people in 2014 16,
the second highest burden in absolute terms. The number of undernourished people increased by 44
million between 1990 to 92 and 2014 to16. In the Central African sub region, the number of
undernourished people more than doubled between 1990 92 and 2014 16 (FAO et al., 2015). The lack
of progress in the rate of undernourishment in absolute terms reflects prevailing problems in the sub
region, notably poor food consumption patterns caused amongst others by limited understanding on
the dimensions of food security, political instability and forest degradation. It is therefore absolute to
carry out investigations to properly understand the dimensions of food security especially with
changing environmental conditions. Promoting the consumption of fruits in poor communities and
amongst vulnerable groups could help in addressing problems of nutrient deficiency and malnutrition
(Kehlenbeck et al., 2013; Place et al., 2013; Tchoundjeu et al., 2012).

befell the community.? The Jewish community in Greece was once large and prominent.? In fact, ?the
country once boasted some of the most distinguished and ancient Jewish communities in the world.1

Greece became a country in 1821, it ?recognized the civic and political equality of the Jews.?5? The
lives of Greek Jews were greatly improved until the 1940s, when anti Semitism and hatred removed
them from their homes and robbed them of their lives.
History of Thessaloniki
?The Greek city of Salonika, or Thessaloniki, is an excellent example of the Greek Jewish

  • 2. Starbucks Fixed Cost In regards to the company Starbucks, their cost of production includes the cost of coffee beans, milk, plastic products, advertising, rent and labor. When thinking about the high price of Starbucks coffee customers should consider the cost of what goes into the coffee, Howard Schultz said I am concerned about dairy, both domestically and around the world, and we are working feverishly with our suppliers, (and to) identify new suppliers (Thomnson, R. 2014). When it comes to the price of coffee, prices recently hit a two year high due to crop damaging drought in Brazil, the top producer (Thomnson, R. 2014). This has a huge impact on the price consumers pay for their coffee. The determinants of Starbucks profitability over time are variable costs and fixed costs. A variable cost is a cost that change in direct proportion to a change in the level of activity (Pearson, 2016) . Variable costs for Starbucks would include labor, coffee beans, dairy, and plastic products. A fixed cost is indirect costs of business expenses that remain unchanged (Pearson, 2016). Fixed costs for Starbucks include rent, taxes, and insurance as well as advertising. In the figure below (fig 1) we have Starbucks financial data in millions for the year of 2015. This figure includes their operating expenses, net revenues, such as company operated stores, licensed stores, CPG, food service. It also includes their total net revenues and their balance sheet. • 4. Gummy Bear Hypothesis For Osmosis Introduction: Osmosis is a natural occurrence constantly happening within the cells of all living things. For osmosis to occur, water molecules must move across a semipermeable membrane from an area of low concentration to an are of high concentration. In order to understand osmosis, people must understand the different types of concentrations that can be present within solution. One of them is an Isotonic solution where the concentration of dissolved particles is equal to that of a cell s. Another is a hypertonic solution where there is a higher concentration of dissolved particles then inside the cell. And lastly there is a hypotonic solution where there are less dissolved particles than inside the cell. As dissolved particles move to a region of lower concentration, water moves the opposite direction as a result of there being less water in the highly concentrated region. In this experiment, gummy bears were placed in salt water, sugar water, and tap water to find the measure of osmosis between the solution and gummy bear. Hypothesis: If the gummy bear is added to the solution, then it will lose its coloring and expand. Materials: The materials used during the experiment included three plastic cups, three gummy bears, masking tape, marker, balance, calculator, tray, one plastic spoon, a measurement tray, and a ruler. The three plastic cups were used to hold the tap water, salt water, and sugar water. The masking tape and marker were used to label each cup with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Bet By Anton Chekhov Analysis The Bet , by Anton Chekhov, is an original story that is about a Banker and a Lawyer. Chekhov uses many elements of literature to show that society s opinion on prison has different viewpoints. Through this story Chekhov writes about two modern sides of prison, capital punishment and life imprisonment. He writes about a Banker and a Lawyer that set a foolish bet of two million dollars for fifteen years in solitary confinement. Anton Chekhov, shows this story through characterization and imagery. The first literary element Chekhov uses is imagery. Chekhov uses imagery powerfully to express particular point within the story. In the twenty ninth paragraph, the Banker walks in on the Lawyer and notices, He was a skeleton with the skin drawn tight over his bones, with long curls like a woman s and a shaggy beard. His face was yellow with an earthy tint in it, his cheeks were hollow, his back long and narrow, and the hand on which his shaggy head was propped was so thin and delicate that it was dreadful to look at it. His hair was already streaked with silver, and seeing his emaciated, aged looking face, no one would have believed that he was only forty. (Chekhov). Chekhov uses breathtaking imagery to show the reader that this aged, worn out, forty year old man, was once the young lawyer. This description helps provide the reader with a strong image of how the weary young man has changed and evolved into a pitiful and demented man since he has been in solitary confinement. Once the Lawyer is found lying asleep the Banker notices a note, in this note the Lawyer states, I have heard the singing of the sirens, and the strains of the shepherds pipes; I have touched the wings of comely devils who flew down to converse with me of God... In your books I have flung myself into the bottomless pit, performed miracles, slain, burned towns, preached new religions, conquered whole kingdoms. (Chekhov). The Lawyer writes this imagery in his letter to explain why he has chosen to leave the house before the bet was up. Chekhov also writes, When the banker had read this he laid the page on the table, kissed the strange man on the head, and went out of the lodge, weeping. At no other time, even when he had ... • 6. Compare And Contrast Grant And Lee The two generals in the Civil War were Ulysses S. Grant, who commanded the Union Army, and Robert E. Lee, who commanded the Confederate Army. The two commanding generals were similar in many ways, but were also very different. For example, General Ulysses S. Grant and General Robert E. Lee both graduated from West Point Military Academy, but Grant graduated twenty first in a class of thirty four in 1843, while Lee graduated second in his class of 1829. Another example would be that Grant had a reputation for being a tough fighter in battle who would never give up; while Lee was known for his knowledge in being able to know how to move an army quickly over many miles and had a great sense of when to attack and when to withdraw. Individuals who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Johnston would then attack the patrol, by driving the surprised bluecoats back near Shiloh Church. Throughout the day, the Confederates battered the Union army, driving it back towards Pittsburg Landing and threatening to trap it against the Tennessee River. many troops on both sides had no experience in battle. The chances for a complete Confederate victory diminished as troops from Buell s army began arriving and Grant s command on the battlefield shored up the sagging Union line. Later in the middle of the afternoon, Johnston rode forward to direct the Confederate attack and was struck in the leg by a bullet, severing an artery and causing him to quickly bleed to death. General Pierre G. T. Beauregard assumed control, and halted the advance at nightfall. The Union army was driven back, but it did not back. Later that day, Grant was joined by the vanguard of the Buell s army. With an advantage in terms of troop numbers, Grant counterattacked on April 7. The tired Confederates slowly retreated, but they inflicted heavy casualties on the Yankees. By nightfall, the Union was able to drive the Confederates back to Shiloh Church, recapturing grisly reminders of the previous day s battle such as the Hornet s Nest, the Peach Orchard and Bloody Pond. The Confederates finally limped back to Corinth, thus giving a major victory to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Adolescent Suicide Is A Preventable Public Health Issue Introduction Although most of the media attention focuses on adolescent homicide, suicide deaths should have us more alarmed, and we should understand that adolescent suicide is a preventable public health issue. In adolescent Suicide deaths are more prevalent than homicide deaths (CDC, 2012). According to the National Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Web based Injury Statistics Query and Reporting System (WISQARS), suicide is the second leading cause of death for adolescents age 13 to 17 (CDC, 2016). That number surpasses the number of deaths due to chronic diseases such as cancer, HIV, and diabetes. The pain is so unbearable to an individual that the only way to relieve it is suicide. Baumeister s escape theory of suicide believes certain steps promotes suicide, 1) individuals perception of expectations and actual events are more negative, 2) an aversive self awareness develops, (individual focuses on negative aspects of them self and become depressed) 3) in an attempt to escape the effects from the first two steps an individual goes into a state of cognitive deconstruction (.Baumeister, 1990) This reduces inhibition which leads to a lack of impulse control. These theories focus more on the emotional and psychological aspect of suicide. They seem to identify what causes the suicide ideation. However, it does not explain how one goes from emotion to action. Just because someone has thought about suicide, does not mean they will attempt suicide, they need to have the acquired capability (lack of fear of dying) in order to attempt suicide (Joiner, 2005, Van Orden et al.,). Suicide is a very difficult act, it requires you to go against the self preservation you have been programmed with (Ohman Mineka, 2001). George, Page, Hooke, Stritzke, (2016) tested the ... • 10. Sensitive Period In Critical Period Introduction It is commonly accepted that the earlier people start learning a language, the more successful they will be. However, it is difficult to ascertain how much intertwined language acquisition and age really are. The concept of a sensitive period , which is a phase during development when learning a particular skill can occur more effectively than later on in life, is well known in nature. A few examples are imprinting in ducks and song learning for songbirds (Clark 2009). The sensitive period is sometimes regarded as critical, implying that, once it is past, that specific skill can no longer be learnt. The idea that human language is normally acquired during a critical period was first proposed by Lenneberg, with the Critical Period Hypothesis (CPH). Considering data regarding recovery from aphasia, Lenneberg (1967) hypothesized that language learning could only occur during a critical period, starting from age two until twelve. This happens as the lateralization of the brain, which is the specialization of the left hemisphere for language, is by then considered to be complete. Therefore, the critical period is used to explain the reason why the automatic acquisition from mere exposure to a given language seems to disappear after this age [puberty] and foreign accents cannot be overcome easily after puberty (Lenneberg 1967: 176). ... A mixed economy is a mixture of capitalism and socialism. Personal possession of large company is probable; there is just a higher amount of taxation on these businesses. This is common economic structure as most established or emerging countries have implemented it, including the United States of America. If Harley Davidson were started and operated in an unadulterated capitalist economy, there would be no boundaries. No boundary on what it could retail, and for what amount. • 12. Comparing Eysenck s Theory Of Personality And Costa And... Guilford (1959) defines personality traits as being any distinguishable, relatively enduring way in which one individual varies from another . Subsequently, trait theory can be identified as an approach to the study of human personality. The aim of psychologists, specifically trait theorists, is to explain similarities and differences between individuals based on traits. Although numerous psychologists differ on the amount of traits that are significant, each theorist categorizes personality traits along several broad type spectrums. This assignment will focus on comparing and contrasting Eysenck s Hierarchical Theory of Personality and Costa and McRae s Five Factor Model (FFM), two different trait theories of personality. Hans Eysenck, a psychologist well known in the field of personality based his trait theory on biological explanations; whereby he believed genetic and biological factors were significant elements of personality (Eysenck 1990). Eysenck also held the view that an individual s personality traits, or what he referred to as temperament was an exact result of one s genetic make up (Chamorro Premuzic Furnham, 2005). Eysenck encompassed the idea that there was a need to highlight the significant dimensions of personality, create a way in which they could be measured and then link them with experimental procedures. Subsequently, Eysenck developed a model of personality based on a theoretical and statistical approach to the classification of traits. This is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. The Three Joys and One Misfortune The Three Joys and One Misfortune Paresse Pereza was a lazy woman who never worked. In her childhood and adolescence, she did not finish her homework or chores and did not attend school; even after becoming an adult, she stayed in her house, completely depending on her parents for everything. Her appearance, however, was very charming. She had beautiful golden hair that landed softly on her back and bluish emerald eyes that glowed when reflected on sunlight. She always wore a black one piece as if attending a funeral, and anyone who had seen her would say that they had a good first impression of her. After Paresse s parents whom she was wholly relying on died, the young woman became homeless and impoverished, since she did not have any inheritance from her parents. Although she was struggling in poverty, Paresse remained idle and did not even think about getting a job or a house. One day, Paresse was wandering around her neighborhood, hoping to find some food to eat. Her charming appearance had disappeared: her smooth golden hair became rough and dirty, and her beautiful emerald eyes seemed to turn into a dull khaki color, due to her stained face. Her black one piece had turned into a chunk of ragged fabric, and she had blisters on her feet since she wore no shoes. As she walked aimlessly, she inadvertently arrived at a gargantuan forest called The Dark Forest. There was a rumor about a prophet who lived inside the forest and made anyone s wish come true. ... Charles Dickens was pleased when Parliament eventually agreed to pass the 1832 Reform Act, however, like most radicals, he thought it did not go far enough. There are three main ideas about the state of Monarchy, which are delivering the Word of God, establishments of policy and philosophy. Kings were treated as gods and even in the scriptures were referred to as gods. The reason kings were called and treated as if they were god is that they exercise their power upon the place they were ruled by deciding on major actions. For example, kings could decide on anything like sentencing someone to death, creating or destroy anything, being a judge, and anything godlike at the king s desire. Theology Liberation hermeneutics Liberation theology experience DEVELOPMENT OF LIBERATION HERMENEUTICS Liberation hermeneutics developed a three part agenda. In opposition to the stated objectives of many forms of classical theology, experience takes precedence over theory. The dominant experience of a majority of people in the two thirds world, in which liberation theology emerged, is the experience of poverty suffering malnutrition, lack of access to basic human rights, education, clean water, medicine and the like. Hence first, a liberation hermeneutics begins with the experience of the injustice of poverty. Second it attempts to analyse or assess the reasons of this impoverished existence. We want to know more about these seemingly special people who can accomplish these unique things. We can t help but conflate the two. The artist and the work. Well, to some extent, an artist s work is always about the artist. How can it be otherwise, since they have no other source but themselves? When we look or hear art, we only see and hear artist, because that is all we can see it s all we have to work with. The problem with art is, because we love it so much, we put the artists who created it on pedestals and we believe they cannot fail because, in some corner of our mind, we ve formed a relationship with them and their product, and for us to discover them as imperfect shatters the illusion. We have made a god in our mind where there is only a human, as flawed and imperfect as ourselves, but what that piece of art they created gave us, in that moment in time, was pure love, joy and satisfaction. The art didn t do anything wrong to you. The art shouldn t be punished. Factors Affecting The Intake Of Fruits From Trees Essay Check referencing and put scientific names of table in annex 1 into italics Chapter 5 The availability, accessibility, utilization and stability factors affecting the intake of fruits from trees in forest areas in Cameroon Introduction and problem In sub Saharan Africa, just under one in every four people, or 23.2 percent of the population, is estimated to be undernourished in 2014 16 (FAO et al., 2015). This is the highest prevalence of undernourishment for any region in the World and, with about 220 million hungry people in 2014 16, the second highest burden in absolute terms. The number of undernourished people increased by 44 million between 1990 to 92 and 2014 to16. In the Central African sub region, the number of undernourished people more than doubled between 1990 92 and 2014 16 (FAO et al., 2015). The lack of progress in the rate of undernourishment in absolute terms reflects prevailing problems in the sub region, notably poor food consumption patterns caused amongst others by limited understanding on the dimensions of food security, political instability and forest degradation. It is therefore absolute to carry out investigations to properly understand the dimensions of food security especially with changing environmental conditions. Promoting the consumption of fruits in poor communities and amongst vulnerable groups could help in addressing problems of nutrient deficiency and malnutrition (Kehlenbeck et al., 2013; Place et al., 2013; Tchoundjeu et al., 2012). ...
