The Dangers Of White Lies In Shakespeare s King Lear
Lies and secrets are like cancer in the soul. They eat away what is good and leave only
destruction behind . But can lying be acceptable? What about white lies? The small lies we tell
to protect other people or simply to avoid hurting one s feelings by saying no of course you don t
look fat in those jeans . The problem about these white lies is not knowing what is too far and in
the end a lieis a lie. Lying ultimately masks over reality and warps our minds into believing an
altered perception of reality; however, the question stands, is lying to change one s reality for the
better truly that bad? King Leardoes an exquisite job at showing how lying does destroy familyties
and, on the more dramatic side, has the ability of ending with a lot of dead bodies. The play does
however show how lying can be helpful temporarily, but the lies never end well. Lies create
barriers that obstruct trust and breakdown family ties and overall cause more harm than good.
Even though white lies may avoid hurting one s relationship, they break the trust between
people. Today s society has accepted white lies as they provide comfort and boost one s self
esteem; however, in King Lear these little white lies destroy family ties. For example, King Lear
asks his daughters to express how strong their love is for their father and the amount of love
determines their inheritance. The two eldest daughters shower their father in white lies full of
flattery, Sir, I love you more than words can wield the matter... A love that makes breath poor and
speech unable (1.1 20 60). However, the youngest daughter simply tells the truth that she cannot
heave her heart into her mouth (1.1 90). Therefore, the youngest daughter s inheritance is taken
away and split between the two eldest daughters. Simple flattery destroyed a fathers relationship
with his only honest daughter. The lies told by the eldest daughters were not white lies to protect
anyone, but white lies for their greed of power.
The first stage in the corruption of morals is the banishment of truth (Montaigne) and these small
flattering white lies led to the moral of not murdering family members vanish. The white lies started
the war that led to the death of the characters in

Key Leadership Skills
There are a variety of leadership models which emphasize key leadership skills. Some of the best
models are designed for specific organizations because it is usually difficult to describe key
leadership skills with a broad brush. However, there are some fundamental skills that all great
leaders share in common regardless of the type of group that they are leading. Whether you are
leading a commercial enterprise or a nonprofit organization, or if you are an elected leader in
government, these are five key leadershipskills that you must master:
Strategic Thinking: Leaders must be able to think strategically. This is a complex skillset that
includes the ability to define critical issues, analyze the relevant facts and information, and decide

Once they have formulated a vision, then they must be able to communicate it. The best leaders
not only communicate the facts, but do it in an inspiring way. They are able to persuade their
followers that they will be able to lead them to a better place. If a leader can t communicate
effectively, then he or she will be ineffective as a leader.
Political Savvy: Political savvy is a skill that leaders use to assess the needs of the various
stakeholder groups within their organization. They are also good at recognizing who represents
these groups as key subordinate leaders within their organization. Using their political skills, great
leaders are able to build coalitions by common cause among the key stakeholders. If a leader is
unable to build collation, they will find it very difficult to move ahead with their agenda.
Resilience: Resilience is the skill that leaders need to overcome obstacles. No matter what agenda
or vision the leader may want to pursue, it is always the case that they will run into road blocks on
their journey. Resilience is the skill that leaders use to circumvent the road blocks and continue
their journey. They focus on what they can do to solve the problem rather than blame others or

Disadvantages Of Tapons
1.Issue description:
Hint: Be specific in your description, of what your activity is specifically, what is its frequency, etc.
and why it is not sustainable.
My Sustainability Assessment will address the unsustainable effects of Tampons ecologically and
socially. Tampons are greatly used among women, as they approximately use 9,300 tampons in
their lifetime. It is also very convenient and compact as it can be seen on every store shelf.
However, there are many disadvantages in its use.
Every woman has their period every month. Hence, the tampons are greatly needed. With this need
is a health risk that can affect women in the future, such as dioxin residue, and chemicals in
fragrances that are found within the tampon itself. In these chemicals lies a more dangerous risk,
which is Toxic Shock Syndrome, pelvic inflammation to name a few. Thus, a woman s need can
also be the one that can put her in danger. Tampons, as small as it can seem, can also harm the
environment. The production of cotton uses pesticides that can be carcinogenic and can leave
traces in tampons. The plastic applicator found in tampons can harm marine ecosystem and can
take years to degrade. The tampon, itself, that are found in landfills can t also degrade and can
cause carbon emissions.
On the other hand, Tampons are controlled and manufactured by well known companies such as
Procter Gamble, and Johnson Johnson, which makes it economically stable. Feminine products,
such as tampons, can increase up to the US $35.4 Billion in global sales. With this power, they can
deceive the customers into thinking that their product is safe when it is not.
2.Desired outcomes: Briefly explain each of the following outcomes:
(a)My issue is/is not ecologically sound because...
Tampons have always been in the garbage every month, as every woman uses it. Its waste can
amount to 62, 415lbs. This garbage, without proper disposal, can end in landfills, which can take
up more than a year to degrade. A tampon has super absorbent, dense fibers that are petroleum
based, which takes up a slower process to degrade in areas that are at a colder temperature.
Moreover, its plastic applicators can also be a cause in harming the marine ecosystem. Some of the

Deborah Pennimpede s What Is A Commuter Student
Coherence and emphasis in an essay are almost as important in an essay as is the content is.
Without coherence and emphasis, the reader will simply lose interest in the essay or they will be
unable to follow what the author is trying to share. However, the author must be considerate about
when and how coherence and emphasis are created. In the essay, What is a Commuter Student? by
Deborah Pennimpede, the author advantageously employs strategies of coherence and emphasis
throughout. The coherence in the essay What is a Commuter Student? is like peanut butter between
two pieces of bread it holds the essay together, while at the same time makes it easy to digest. The
author achieves coherence through her transitional phrases, her connection... Show more content on

The same goes for emphasis in an essay. The author has to pick and choose how they are going
to emphasize what they are saying so that it does not become overbearing to the reader. One way
that Deborah Pennimpede does this well is through her sentence choices with a powerful use of
periodic sentences, short sentences and interrogative sentences. The author is very deliberate in
where she chooses to place periodic sentences. She knows that an essay that is littered with them
is hard for the reader, and so she only places a few periodic sentences in the entire essay. One of
her strongest periodic sentences is the following: If a pickup truck doesn t try to pass me at the
blind corner at Maple Street and if I avoid the drivers who want to play bumper cars on the Salem
Dodgem Rotary, I stand a chance of making it to school. This is such a strong use of a periodic
sentence because the author is keeping the reader on the edge of their seat until the very end of the
sentence. The placement of the sentence is very tasteful as well, as it is a linking sentence between
two different thoughts in the paragraph. Another strength in the author s writing style is her use of
short sentences. These sentences are short and to the point. They make excellent topic sentences
and concluding sentences because they don t lose the reader. The reader can tell

Analysis Of `` Still I Rise, And Welty s `` A Worn Path ``
Literature offered an approach for African Americans to demonstrate their humanity and an ability
for creative invention and imaginary thought. Writing later developed into an instrument through
which African Americans could voice not only their rejection of institutionalized racism and
slavery but also their desire for equality and freedom. African American literature continues to be a
method in countering the incompetence or misrepresentation of black people in history. Two
prominent female writers during this era were Maya Angelou and Eudora Welty. Angelou was a
civil rights activist and educator and expressed her emotions in her works. Her poem, Still I Rise,
was written to describe her willingness to overcome oppression. Welty expressed black triumph
through her character in her short story, A Worn Path
. Although both works tells stories of racial
and female empowerment, they express these ideas in distinctive methods. Angelou s Still I Rise
and Welty s A Worn Path are both written during a time of racial and sexual oppression. Both
authors were African American females who grew up during extreme racial subjugation. Angelou
speaks about overcoming oppression and prejudice in her poem, Still I Rise . She carries a
confident tone, assuring that she will overcome her troubles, asserting, Just like moons and like
suns, / With the certainty of tides, / Just like hopes springing high, / Still, I ll rise (Angelou 10 13).

Theme Of Capitalism In Life In The Iron Mills
Bianca Chirinos Professor Karafilis English 3600 November 3, 2017 Industrial Capitalism in
Life in the Iron Mills In the novella, Life in the Iron Mills, by Rebecca Harding Davis an
extraordinary compelling portrait is depicted of the 1830 s powerless and tired labor class. To
further describe her subject, Davis uses body markers such as: race, gender, and class
identification and limited language through her characters in order to shed light on the
oppressive chains of industrial capitalism. Influenced by the events going on around her during
the American Civil War (1861 1865), Davis focuses and addresses her short literary realism story
towards the middle and upper class entrepreneurs who were polluting the Industrial Revolution.
As new mills and factories were being established to only on produce profits, at the expense of
lower class workers. Who, mostly consisted of, unskilled peasants, immigrants, laborers, and
farmers. Markers of class identification are inflected in Davis literary realism story by two
bodily markers: race/ethnicity and gender. The narrator of the novella describes a notable
difference in between the poor mill workers working for Kirby and John s Mill versus the five
powerful blue collared visitors. For example, Hugh Wolf s father, who is a Welsh immigrant,
works as puddler at the mill making iron. He has no option but to settle for a low social paying
job that in the long run will make the rich richer and the poor poorer. From which, he will only

Mary Anne s Transformation
When being told a war story, one automatically assumes all that they are hearing is factual, and
that all the trauma, devastation, and victory really happened. However, in the fictional The Things
They Carried, by Tim O Brien, he turns the idea on its head: a story does not necessarily have to be
honest if the emotions behind the story are. O Brien uses techniques such as hyperbolic characters
and verisimilitude to show his audiencethat while the verbatim anecdotes are not true, the sentiment
behind them is true. Through the characters of Mary Anne and Norman Bowker, O Brien
successfully uses the audience s trust against them to create varying images of unbelievability and
believability, which ultimately helps achieve the goal of making his... Show more content on

Even though Bowker made it out of the war alive, he was not himself when he returned home.
He could not bring himself to talk to anyone about his experiences, though it [was] a good time
to talk (134). As Bowker thought of all the people he could talk to about his war stories and how
he had almost been given the Silver Star, he can only conjure the conversations in his
imagination. When finally given the chance to get his emotions off his chest at the A W,
Bowker could only muster out Nothing when the intercom questioned if he had anything to say
(146). The reluctance to share true war memories is a quality that veterans who have observed
severe trauma can relate to. Similar how to Bowker continued around the lake in circles and
circles, veterans cannot break out of the circle that is their experience of war. The only people
they feel safe talking to are members of their old platoon, and even if they want to be able to
express themselves and their emotions, there is a seemingly invisible barricade that prevents them
from sharing. In Bowker s case, the pent up emotion lead to [hanging] himself in the locker room
of a YMCA (149). Though this story was invented by O Brien, the thousands of soldiers who
annually commit suicide is not a work of fiction. By using such abrupt, blunt diction to

Hairspray The Musical
Hairspray the musical was based out of the 1960 s, and dealt with current issues for the time, like
race, women s rights, religion and pop culture, and the rise of technology. Dance was used in the
film and musical performance, as most musicals have dance numbers. Hairspray used the dance
performances mostly in the show on the film. In some cases, the cast danced as a rebellion, or to
show how the character was changing their point of view. Quite a few of the dance moves
involved hips, and shoulders, the dances also had quite interesting names like mashed potato, and
the twist. Those two dance moves were created to liberate and recreate the way the world danced
(Dance Style of the 60s). This film is important to our culture and society, because... Show more

actress for the film, and the movie won Top Box Office Film at the ASCAP Awards. Hairspray
had more nominations than anything, and compared to the wins, it was quite low. The music,
to be fair, is not that spectacular, but still entertaining none the less. Good Morning Baltimore is
one of the more memorable songs, as it is the opening number, and gives the audience a pretty
good idea of the scene, and where it takes place. You also get a good look at how the characters
are going to be perceived by how they act in the first number. Most of the music in the film have
a sort of blues vibe, but also pop, so kind of an alternative genre. In one song in particular, Ladies

Early Christian Beliefs
Initially, communities of early Christian believers were able to choose their own leaders; however,
as centuries passed, the practice of having secular rulers choose appoint church leaders became
routine. These appointed leaders were eventually able to establish permanent institutions, which not
only expressed Christian values, but also drew from many Greco Roman Traditions. The creation of
Nicene Creed and the establishment of the Roman Catholic Churchand the Byzantine Christian

practice of having secular rulers choose appoint church leaders became routine. As the Roman
empire was divided up into dioceses, the church followed suit with each dioceses being led by a

The Importance Of College Sports
College sports continue to be one of the largest businesses in America, with millions of viewers,
jobs, and players. For the countless numbers of amateur athletes, college sporting events represent
high quality competition, education about the sport, and shear excitement of cheering on the
favorite team. Although sporting equality differs in the minds of people, I encourage athletes to
focus on the academic side of school. Within all the publicity these highly recruited players receive,
the rules appear to bend based on the students athletic ability. Even with collegefootball being the
third most popular sport in America, I firmly disapprove that the academic standard for athletes
should be lowered. I do like to party when the sun comes out. On many LSU football teams, half
of the players make up a group called special admits ; this means large groups of athletes do not
gain the academic knowledge and achievements as the normal students do. The undeniable issue
brought forth by colleges doing this is that no matter how talented a player is, they will not be able
to play any sport their entire lives; therefore, it is impeccable that every college athlete receives a
desirable education. The National Collegiate Athletic Association(NCAA) voted to increase
academic standards for athletes, reduce the amount of money players receive, and limited practice
time so school work acquires the majority of their day. As long as academic budgets are miniscule

Comparison Of Paramecium, Amoeba, And Euglena
There are five supergroups within the Domain Eukarya. All supergroups contain organisms called
protists. Most Protists are often described as simple organisms; however, their cellular organization
and metabolism are as complex as other higher organisms (McGraw Hill, 2017). Therefore,
comparing between three of these supergroups will make us understand their classification in that
specific group. Paramecium, Amoeba, and Euglena are three eukaryotic organisms that can be
interesting to compare them for several reasons. One of them is that these three organisms cause
the most harmful illness to the human body. Also, their structural differences are very exciting to
look at under the microscope. Therefore, knowing their trophic level, life strategy, locomotion, and
reproduction of these organisms will help us understand why they were not grouped in the same
supergroup.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

On the other hand, Amoeba looks like a gray blob with single nuclei. On the other hand, Euglena

An Analysis of Seawater Intrusion in Coastal Aquifers
Seawater intrusion is defined as the movement of seawater into freshwater aquifers which are
generally made of ground water near the coast. An interface or dispersion zone is the area where
fresh water and seawater meet. Analytical models and numerical models as well as Mathematical
methods are used to find or to investigate solutions to this, as the seawater contaminates the fresh
drinking water. The aim of this essay is to give an account of two modelling approaches that
describe what happens at the interface by discussing the models. As well as to discuss how tides
may have an impact on seawater intrusion. Ataie Ashtiani, Volker and Lockington(1999:17)
suggested that there is a direct relationship between the area of the dispersion, the scale, the
shape, the degree of the dispersion area, and parameters such as hydraulic conductivity, the
comparative densities of the salt and fresh water as well as the rate of discharge of the ground
water. There is limited accuracy to the usage of the models as the models are limited by assuming
various situations. Altaie Ashtiani et al (1999:18) gestates the rare occurrence of salt water
intrusion in ground water in two ways: the sharp interface approach and the disperse interface
approach. The sharp interface approach is the approach in which it should be assumed that the salt
water and fresh water are immiscible fluids which are separated by a sharp interface. This approach
includes the diffusion and the effects of the hydrodynamic

Psychodynamic Psychotherapy And Person Centered Psychology...
The counseling profession has a broad spectrum of possibilities when it comes to choosing which
psychological approach to take. The field of counseling takes many forms and offers many career
options, from school counseling to marriage and family therapy. As there are numerous styles in
existence, it is important to be aware of the many approaches available to take. For my research
two psychological approaches, Psychodynamic Psychotherapyand Person Centered Psychology, will
be critically analyzed and discussed in depth in order to compare the techniques as well as
effectiveness of each.
Foundation of Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy was developed by Sigmund Freud during the Victorian
Era in Vienna, Austria. Sigmund Freud s psychological works set the base for the profession of
psychology as well as the practice of modern psychotherapy. Freud believed human behavior was
motivated by intrapsychic conflict stemming from the three areas of the subconscious: id, ego, and
superego (Murdock, 2009).
Freud s psychoanalytic approach to therapy had more of a negative view of human nature that Carl
Rogers view. Freud thought human dysfunction developed as a result of poor genetic make up, as
well as deficits (fixations) caused by missed psychosexual developmental stages. In short, human
conflict came about as a result of struggles between the id (primal, instinctual urges), ego (role of
self in reality) and superego (conscience/critic), manifested in the

CUSTOMS COURTIOUSY
Marine customs are simply desirable courses of action sanctioned by tradition and usage. In the
Marine Corps, practically every custom has grown out of the manner in which Marines of the past
conducted themselves. Many Marine customs have been incorporated into regulations in order to

Knowing and observing these customs, both written and unwritten, is important to each Marine
because it keeps him mindful of the heritage and traditions of his Corps, and of his duty to uphold

Nautical Terms. Many of the Marine Corps customs are derived from the many years of service

Masculinity In The Black Panther Party
The training of armed defense within the Black Panther Party contributed to many of the violent
actions that involved members of the Black Panther Party. Violent discipline, in and out of the BPP,
was heavily enforced by Huey Newton, however the violent atmosphere surrounding the BPP solely
became a place for proving and asserting manhood, and not advancing the revolution that the
founders of the BPP had originally called for. Although many black women attempted to embody
the feminine American womanhood that their white counterparts had, according to Elaine Brown,
chair of the BPP from 1974 1777, many women joined the Black Panther Partyas the image of
strength and confidence projected by male Panther leaders had a powerful, sensual appeal for many
female recruits (Estes, 163). Women within the Black Panther Party were often overlooked as male

Equality And Marriage Equality
The United States of America is one of the largest nations in the world. People popularly call it
The Land of Opportunity and come from all over because of its reputation for being a Melting
Pot. However, it still holds several problems, according to the Universal Declaration of Human
Rights, published by the United Nations. The UDHR supports the rights of everyone all over the
world, expecting everyone to abide by its word. While the UDHR is successful in many ways and
holds value in our country, the Unites States definitely still lacks complete acceptance of marriage
equality (Article 16) as well as gender equality in the workplace (Article 23). While America has
certainly been progressing towards a better future, the United Statesstill fails to defend the rights of
specific social groups, which shows people the duty everyone has to make a difference.
Depending on the state, couples in the LGBTQIA+ community have not legally been able to get
married, which is something that people who identify as heterosexual take for granted. This is
infuriating because selecting a partner for the rest of your life should not be a privilege, but a
right. According to the UDHR in Article 16, Men and women of full age, without any limitation
due to race, nationality or religion, have the right to marry and to found a family. They are entitled
to equal rights as to marriage and at its dissolution. Marriage shall be entered into only with the free
and full consent of the intending

Improvement Opportunity: The Define Phase The purpose of this project was to gain experience in
quality improvement by working with an organization to identify a business problem, analyze the
causes, develop an improvement plan, implement changes, and to verify the effectiveness of the
solutions. For this project we had to keep scope in mind. This project had to follow certain criteria,
such as: that it is a manageable project with a local organization, it can be completed within the
time frame of the course, it has a direct impact on external customers, it is relatively simple, and
that it is not something that is currently undergoing major changes.
The company that our group has partnered with for this project is CVS Pharmacies. We looked into
this company to see if there were any areas for improvement within the organization that would
have an impact on external customers. Within this define stage is when we did exactly that, we
defined the problem. One problem that we found within the CVS Pharmacy, that would be easy
enough to handle given the scope of the project, concerned the stores current inventory (overstock,
backstock) system. It seemed that currently there was no formalized process with regard to placing
items in overstock, resulting in an unorganized and unconventional overstock area. This created a
problem because it made it harder

It is also critical to decide what is currently available in their workforce in terms of high potential
employees who might be able to step into these positions with training and development (Keller

term commitment. By meeting with the leadership, one can learn what future goals are expected
from the company and what visions are in place to help expand the company for a successful future.
Once the assessment information has been gathered, the succession plan development can begin.
The development process is based on various job skills and employee experience. In order to recruit
talented employees, human resource management must team with the companies top executives to
gather the appropriate data for analysis; for example, job descriptions, resumes and career files.
The meeting between leadership and the human resource department will help to focus and elevate
the many challenges of diversity, recruitment, and most importantly retention of employees when
implementing a succession plan. This basis will ensure that the employees will get the appropriate
training for the jobs they are best suited for. After the assessment information as been collected, the
training and development of employees should be directed toward these positions, or a particular
job. The employee

Costa Rican Mountains
A View Of The Mountains Just a little farther! This is the last steep hill! I think... A collective
groan of relief came from behind me as my group started up one of the last steep sections of our
trail up the beautiful, Costa Rican mountain. Our guide, Riza, the mother of our mission group s
host family, gave the rest of the group a smile. You volunteered to climb a mountain! What d you
expect? I seemed to be the only one who was actually enjoying the rewarding exercise. The crisp
mountain air and occasional breeze felt refreshing as I trudged up the path, being careful to
avoid holes and wondering what sights lie ahead. As I reached the crest, I looked at the path
before me. While the last section was the steepest of our recent stretch of the mountain, it was by
no means the last steep hill we would encounter. I stood up straight and did a quick stretch as I
looked around, taking in the scenery around me. It was unlike any view I had ever seen. As far as

lie before me were the fields of coffee on the sides of the mountain. Behind this were
neighborhoods of cream stucco with their brick red ceramic or bright, tin roofs. The cityscape

Political Science Of Political Sabotage Or Dirty Plans Essay
Ratf**ked is a term used in political science to describe political sabotage or dirty plans. David
Daley, in his book of the same name, describes Republicans incentives in 2010 to take control of
state legislatures and control congressional redistricting processes. Republicans were then able
to take redistrict in favor of a republican controlled congress being elected. This plan was entitled
The Redistricting Majority Project or REDMAP (Daley 2016). After the 2008 election, the future
of the Republican Party looked grim. Obama took Republican strongholds like Virginia and North
Carolina and Democrats took control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate during
the election. Chris Jankowski, a member of the Republican State Leadership Committee, came up
with a plan to help the Republicans gain control of the state legislatures. He realized the
importance of the 2010 mid term elections with the upcoming census, whichever party controlled
the state legislatures got to control the redistricting process for congressional districts in 42 of 50
states (Daley 2016). Jankowski had $30 million dollars to invest in states that Republicans could
control both governors office and the legislature. His REDMAP team would create priority lists of
swing states, to state houses, and finally to state senates that they had to win. Republicans focused
their time and energy on areas that they believed that they could swing red or keep red by calling,

Freedom of Expression and Rap Music Essay
Many issues have come up regarding what rights and actions are protected under the First
Amendment. Rap music should not be restricted on the television despite much controversy over
the idea. Bok says that some acts cause debates, although people may disagree with it doesn t mean
it should be taken away. There should be no restrictions held against playing of rap music. Music
that we listen to constructs the sound track of our lives. The number one killer in creative speech is
censorship. Censorship in music is a topic that has brought about much controversy in the past two
decades. Preventing or punishing speech?is a clear violation of the First Amendment. (Censorship.

(Zhar). Lawrence states that ?Blacks and other people of color are skeptical about the argument that
even the most injurious speech must remain unregulated because, in an unregulated marketplace of
ideas, the best ones will rise to the top and gain acceptance.
If the music is found to be so bad, then why are the parents not using the channel blocker on the
channels that allow the music. Deciding what children should see and hear in my opinion is a
parent s chore and right to decide, not the governments. ?As long as gratuitous violence and sex
aren t being seen with Saturday morning cartoons, then what we have now is fine. When parents
choose to ignore the ratings that are displayed on CD s, movies and television shows, and their
children view or hear something graphic, it is the parents fault not the artist s. There is no doubt
that everything we hear and see in the media isn t going to rub us the right way but, that s the
beauty of the first amendment? (Mariah Carey). Like Kilbourne states kids are easily influenced by
what they hear and see.
Not all rap music is about swearing, degrading woman and so forth. Many songs actually have
meanings that the rappers try to portray to people. When artists create music that is senseless it
can cloud people s judgment towards the music type they are representing. A lot of rappers rap
about cars, jewelry, sex, and murder and refer to themselves as keeping it real . So many people

The True Meaning Of Beauty
Redefined Beauty I wake up, brush and straighten my hair, I use that expensive extensive
coverage foundation to disguise my flaws, I contour my face to make it appear slimmer like that
of the actress Angelina Jolie. I overline my lips so I get those Kylie Jenner lips everyone seems to
talk about. Looking at my altered face in the mirror, I m satisfied. However, after watching just one
T.V commercial, I m immediately reminded that it s not enough. Do you ever feel this way? Like
me, many others feel as though they are not enough. Not skinny enough, not sexy enough and most
importantly, not beautiful enough. This is due to the impossible beauty standards made by the media
we are excessively exposed to. In the article Pop CultureIs destroying True Beauty the author
Rachel Drevno explains how beauty standards being made by the media are causing the true
meaning of beauty to be destroyed and the issues arising from it. I strongly believethis is true and it
s a growing issue. I believe beauty standards made by pop culture are not only destroying the
meaning of beauty, but also it s causing us to feel vulnerable, insecure and unsatisfied with the
way we look. For what once was just a form of entertainment, the media is now a way for
companies to profit off individuals by using their insecurities. Advertisements in between
programs show us products that we need to get in order to look beautiful. In the article by
Rachel Drvno she says these ads are frequently playing on the general public s vulnerability
about their bodies (Drevno 69). Therefore, at a young age we are exposed to these products and
are conditioned to believe that they are what you need in order obtain their so called beauty .
These advertisements make us feel absolutely vulnerable. As someone who has personally fallen
victim to these ads, I began wearing makeup at an early age, hoping to meet the standards of
beauty I saw on screen. The more I tried, the more vulnerable I felt, because the kind of beauty
they presented was superficial. These false portrayals of beauty by pop culture also cause for us to
feel insecure with the way that we naturally look. Being from Pakistan and not looking anything
like the light skinned and silky haired

In the essay I will be exploring how the opening credit scene of the film vertigo (Hitchcock 1958)

applicable to the credit scene.

Concurrent To The Backlash Against Parabens, There Has
Concurrent to the backlash against parabens, there has been an impetus toward alternative
preservatives. Yet, the cosmetics industry responded to this issue by merely tricking their
consumers once again. In an effort to remove paraben from the ingredient list, most cosmetic
companies replaced parabens for another synthetic preservative, such as phenoxyethanol (Rovan).
According to a Montreal pharmaceutical chemist, Ben Kaminsky, phenoxyethanol proves to be
nothing but a synthetic compound that reduces the formation of microbes, and the same is true of
paraben (Rovan). In switching from parabens to other synthetic preservatives, the expectation is
that the new preservative would not have any of the same issues that the parabens caused.... Show

Thousands of people utilize cosmetics with nanoparticles everyday. With various nanoparticle
cosmetic products out on market, the introduction of nanoparticles to consumers evinces promising
progress in climbing its way towards competing with parabens as a better option.
Although nanoparticles, specifically silver nanoparticles, could become a valuable preservative in
the future, there is already unease and skepticism from the public about nanoparticles. This fear is
not a surprise. After all, nanoparticles are relatively a recent application into the cosmetic industry
that lacks consumer feedback when compared to other preservatives. Popular sources voice that,

(Missimer, 2005) The first example has several premises as follows if Sue s baby is a boy it will be

In the last part of the assignment we are asked to identify the arguments as inductive or deductive.
An argument is said to be deductive if its conclusion is claimed to necessarily follow the premise.
An inductive argument claims only that its conclusion probably follows from its premises. That
is, the inferential claim is that since the premises are true or acceptable, the conclusion is likely
to be true or acceptable. (Missimer, 2005) The first and second examples are inductive because
even though the premises may be true, it is still possible for the conclusion to be false. They will
then have to be looked at to see if they are strong or weak and if all premises are true or if one or
more is false. We can then determine if the argument is reliable or unreliable. The third example is
a deductive argument if we go by the definition above. If the premises are true then it simply isn t
possible for the conclusion to be false. If you have a deductive argument and you accept the truth of
the premises, then you must also accept the truth of the conclusion; if you deny it, then you are

Argument For Promotion Of Core Csr
I am a Must/Must/Can and through this paper, I will argue my middle must against my opponent
(Milton Friedman s) must not argument for promotion of core CSR.
WE MUST PROMOTE CORE CSR vs WE MUST NOT PROMOTE CORE CSR
Milton Friedman, in his work titled, The Social Responsibility of Business is to Increase its Profits ,
emphasizes the role of business in society is to maximize shareholder wealth, and likens any
activity misaligned with regard to that mission as stealing . In my argument against Milton Friedman
s must not engage in core CSR stance, I would like to introduce the argument of expanding the
responsibility of business to only maximize profit. Before I elaborate, please consider the following
example:
GlaxoSmithKline( henceforth referred to as GSK), the 6th largest pharmaceutical, publicly traded
firm in the world, that in March 2016 stopped filing drug patents in low income countries such as
Botswana, and partnered with NGO s to administer vaccinations and screen for conditions like
malnutrition and HIV. In fact, one of GSK s medications administered through this program, saves
about 0.5 M Botswanans per year from malaria. The argument promoting core CSR rests on an
analysis of the Responsibility Gap , as described by Margolis J of Harvard Business School. The
responsibility gap analyses the responsibilities that firms have beyond their financial obligations
and fiduciary responsibilities. On the individual level, humans have limited capacity to

Persuasive Essay On College Education
Imagine a store only sold two sizes of the new shirt you wanted. In today s society that is the
perfectly painted picture on college education. College has become an option, a granted
privilege, and no longer a necessity. Jobs such as small business owners, Web developers, and
Wind Turbine Technician no longer require a college degree. College education is still worth it
because college, ВЁencourages students to think, ask questions, and explore new ideas, which
allows for additional growth and development and provides college graduates with an edge in the
job market over those who have not experienced a higher educationВЁ (McGuire). A college
degree is an essential tool in an adult s life because of prominent health, labor market balance, and
overall career success.
First, earning a degree can lead to prominent health. Health is of utmost important next to
education and family. Earning a degree can decrease your chance of becoming obese, increase
self esteem, improve brain development, and better understand and compliance with healthy
behaviors. When earning a college degree you are ВЁa lot less likely to be obese and 50% more
likely to exerciseВЁ (5 ways). Increased self esteem comes for the sense of accomplishment and
confidence from completing the fast, accelerating education program. By age twenty young
adults still do not have a fully developed brain in terms of cognition. Cognition is how someone

cognitive capacities that begin to develop in adolescence do not fully develop until surprisingly

the stage, and afterwards the managers were going to have a party, because it was their last night
at the opera house. Christine happens to be the protagonist of the book. Christine fainted in the
middle of her show and was dragged off stage like she saw a ghost. Raoul, has a crush on
Christine and wants to talk to her and get to know her. Christine was in her dressing room and
wanted to be left alone. Soon after this, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now, the Foreign Stranger wanted to help Raoul find Christine and take him to where she is.
The foreign stranger led Raoul through a strange doorway in Christine s dressing room. In half a
minute, Raoul and the foreign stranger were in. The foreign Stranger had to press his finger
against a spot in the pattern of the wall. The revolving mirror completed its circle and the two
men held their breath. They were still trying to find Christine, by going to every cellar. The third
cellar was the monster s home. They finally reached the third cellar and it was lit very dimly. Next,
the Foreign Stranger led Raoul down two staircases to the fifth cellar, because they thought they
heard something. A flaming head was following them as they started to run, and then they ran into a
wall and did not know what to do. The next thing they know, rats started crawling up their

Woman In Black Film Techniques
The Women in Black , directed by James Watkins, is a classic gothic horror story set in the
northern country side of England. Gothic horror is a sub genre of classic horror that combines
themes such as fiction, horror and romance. The film The Woman in Black contains many elements
considered to be traditional to gothic horror genre. Every gothic horror filmfeatures an evil ghost,
an old haunted house and an innocent character(s). A traditional gothic horror filmincludes a variety

Her costume consists of a long black dress with a black veil, providing the audience with only
short glimpses of her pale face. The use of black clothing allows the ghostly character to go unseen
whilst in the presence of other characters, and to hide behind dark shadows.
The ghostly figure can be recognised through the sound of her high pitched screams, which she
releases in the presence of another character. The thumping noises of a rocking chair on a timber
floor can be heard whenever the Woman in Black is present, and is associated with her death. The
volume of the rocking chair increases as a character approaches it, helping to create tension in a
particular scene.
The Woman in Black only appears in shadows or in the reflection of a mirror using an over the
shoulder camera shot. Throughout the film, the ghost is not seen directly in frame position to
ensure that she isn t seen directly by the audience. By positioning the Woman in Black in corners
and hiding her in the shadows, it creates tension and adds a sense of mystery to a scene. This can
be seen during the film whilst Arthur is in the house, and he drifts off to sleep. The evil spirit is
seen in the shadows moving towards Arthur, the image of the Woman in Black becoming clearer as
she moves closer to the lit

Lupus s Constellation
The Constellation I chose is Lupus, also called „the Wolf . It s located in the southern sky and
was one of the 48 constellations, which were listed by Ptolemy, a second century astronomer.
Previously it was an asterism associated with its neighbour constellation Centaurus, but belongs to
the now 88 official constellations. It has nine main stars, 41 Bayer stars and five stars with planets.
Lupus is surrounded by six different constellations: Hydra, Scorpius, Norma, Circinus, Libra and
Centaurus.
I decided to write about this constellation, because I ve always been fascinated by wolfs and wanted
to know more about the constellation named after it.
Officially the constellation Lupus doesn t have a myth belonging to it, but it can be based on the
story of the ancient king of Arcadia, king Lycaon. It s said that he ruled Arcadia with his fifty
sons and he still practiced human sacrifice while other parts of Greece declined it as barbaric.
There are two different versions about it: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Zeus was so angered about it that he transfigured him into a wolf and killed all of his fifty sons
with a lightning.
The other version says that Zeus visited Arcadia disguised as a traveller. Lycaon and his sons
offered him food, a soup made out of the meat of goats and sheep and of his son Nyctimus. Zeus
was disgusted and killed all fifty sons with a lightning bolt, reviving Nyctimus in the process.
My own myth tells the story of an ancient creature, which was only sighted in moments of

Kabbalah Centre Research Paper
When Madonna started studying the Kabbalah Centre in Los Angeles, all of a sudden, other non
Jewish celebrities started showing up in droves, with some even converting to Judaism in the
process. Elizabeth Taylor took the ideas she studied at the Kabbalah Centre to heart and
converted, becoming an advocate for Israel. Several celebrities have said that Kabbalistic
teachings bring them clarity and helps cope with Hollywood s stresses, however, there are
always a few who show up because it is trendy, they seek publicity or they are shopping for
spirituality. Britany Spears for example, appeared less than sincere, which prompted criticism from
Orthodox Jews, who resented the Kabbalah Centre s policy of allowing gentiles to study Kabbalah.
The late Rabbi Philip Berg, however, saw no point in denying anyone spiritual wisdom, if they used
what they learned to help them reach their full potential.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, online classes serve individuals who don t live near a branch. Study options include
non scholarly classes for individuals who seek practical tools to make their life better or
advanced classes for intermediate students. The Kabbalah Centre s draw is that it takes esoteric
principals and makes them relevant to people s everyday lives. One of the first principles they
teach is that the ego causes problems because it encourages people to believe they are separate
from others. When students at the Kabbalah Centre learn to act for the benefit of others, they
connect with the light, which allows them to experience fulfillment. It s easy to see why celebrities
would find this aspect of the Kabbalah Centre

The Concert At Alice Tully Hall
Throughout the semester, I went to several concerts, some classical in nature, some more popular,
and even a bit of house music made by DJs which was not really my style. One of the concerts
that took me out of my comfort zone the most was performed by a Juilliard Orchestra and
conducted by Juilliard faculty member, Jeffrey Millarsky.
The concert took place at Alice Tully Hall, a Lincoln Center concert venue. It is not as large as
Lincoln Center s opera house, but still a sizable space and it was quite full. The audience was
comprised mostly of older adults, many of whom were probably aficionados of classical music, or
of Lincoln Center shows in general. There were also some students there to support their
classmates, some of whom were talking loudly behind me about how they had fallen asleep at the
last show Jeff had conducted. There were also likely some family members who were supporting
specific students. For example, I noticed how important the night must be for the first violinist and
her family as I watched her shake hands with the conductor, and later the viola soloist, this was the
culmination of years of work. Then there was me, who did not really fit into any of the other
categories of audience members. Fortunately, it was nothing like a high school show where
someone might notice you do not belong. It was professional.
Even the room was such a professional feeling space. One of the loudly talking kids talked about
how he loved the way sound cut in Tully and

Persuasive Essay On Adhd
ADHD: The Often Misdiagnosed Disorder What is ADHD? Sirs data base reports that ADHD is
called attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. This disorder is a mental illness that causes children
and adults to have trouble staying focused, behavioral issues, and incidences of hyper activity. Till
this day, the cause of attentiondeficit hyperactivitydisorder (ADHD) is still unknown. There is also
a lot of controversy over the topic of ADHD, stating that some believe the mental illness is at the
end of its normal behavior chart, while others believe there are genetically and physiological
reasons for this condition. The controversy centers on how to treat and diagnose ADHD children.
This paper will examine viewpoint one, two and my viewpoint on... Show more content on

For starters, parents and doctors should think about ADHD as early as preschool. Firstly, thinking
about ADHD problems at a very young age can help at children who have trouble keeping friends,
and trouble in school. For example, Perri Klass, journalist for the New York Times, shares that
when first treating a preschooler with ADHD it would be beneficial for them to do behavioral
therapy first, and medication last. Thus, this point proves that medication is necessary, but is not
the first step when treating a child. Secondly, nine percent of American children between the ages
of four and eighteen are affected by ADHD. For instance, Susan Pinker, journalist for the Wall
Street Journal, reports that attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is one of the most common and
most misunderstood disease. Therefore, this confirms that some people may have it, and others
may not. Thirdly, do children grow out of ADHD when they are a child? To illustrate, Susan Pinker,
tells that the statement is a myth. The older you get, you are more likely to think about life
consequences rather than when you were a child. Consequently, this information shows that
children with ADHD are proven to make worse life decisions, rather than a normal child. For all
these reasons, medication is necessary to control the

Identify the components of a stock s realized return. A realized return is the amount of actual
gains that is made on the value of a portfolio over a specific evaluation period. This takes into
consideration any earnings generated by each of the assets contained in the portfolio, as well as
any losses that were incurred as a result of a shift in the value of the individual assets. It is possible
to identify the realized return associated with each asset that is held in the portfolio. Components of
realized return are expected return, changes in expectations about future cash flows and changes in
expectations about future discount rate. Employing the calculation of realized return helps an

A negative beta means that the asset s returns generally move opposite the market s returns. One
will tend to be above its average when the other is below its average. Beta is also referred to as a
financial elasticity or correlated relative volatility, and can be referred to as a measure of the
sensitivity of the asset s returns to market returns. Measuring beta can give clues to volatility and
liquidity in the marketplace. Investors can find the best use of the beta ratio in short term decision
making, where price volatility is important. If you are planning to buy and sell within a short
period, beta is a good measure of risk.
State what WACC measures and explain the WACC assumptions used to value a project. A
company s assets are financed by either debt or equity. The weighted average cost of capital
measures the cost of capital of a company based on two elements. One is the cost of debt and the
other is the cost of equity. By taking a weighted average, the interest the company has to pay for
every dollar it finances can be seen. The project cost of capital is equal to the firms WACC. Its
projects cost of capital depends on its risk, when the market risk of the project is similar to the
average market risk of the firm s investments. This is when its cost of capital is equivalent for a
portfolio of all the firm s securities. The most important assumption used in the value of a project
is the average risk. This is where we assess the

The Reflection Of The Human Eye Work
How does the human eye work?
The cornea is clear and at the front of the eye. When light rays enter it, the cornea refracts it
through the pupil and then the iris. The iris controls how much light may pass through the pupil by
expanding or shrinking. Next, the light ray will enter the lens. This also refracts light by changing
its shape with the help of the ciliary muscles and the suspensory ligaments. The light will go
through a dense jelly like tissue named the vitreous humour and eventually focused at the back of
the eye onto the retina. The retina is a light sensitive tissue and covered with rods and cones. These
receptors will capture the light ray and transform it into electrical impulses. They get sent off
through the nerve fibres, then the optic nerve, and then finally the brain. The picture given by the
retina is upside down so our brain will next turn it the right way up.
Our bodies have the capability to endure large scars but, a slight scar on the cornea can lead up
to our vision becoming impaired. The retina will process the light rays, into light impulses that
need to be transferred to the brain to create an image, which are focused on to them by the cornea.
So, any deep injures experienced by the cornea can lead to corneal scarring which would affect our
vision.
Focusing on near and distant objects
People that have trouble focusing in near or a distant object is due the light rays entering their eyes
are unable to focus on the retina. This is a very common

Presidential Debates
Television and the purpose of it has changed in a negative way throughout the years. At the
beginning, we took advantage of being able to be a part of the presidential elections and acquire
the facts about what truly mattered during the debates. Lately we ve started to look at what the
screen is showing us rather than concentrating on what it was actually telling us. We as people
have begun to want to appoint our official leaders based on who looks better and televisionhas
helped feed this desire for the worst. Technology has been changing progressively from the start.

The first way they make this possible is to groom and primp their image. Theodore White
thought that Kennedy benefited because his image on television was crisp ; Nixon s light
colored suit, wrong makeup, bad posture was fuzzed (Source C). He is saying that Kennedy
acknowledged the fact that his appearance made a big difference in how the people looked at
him and he made sure that he was up to par with his looks. Another way they make their
appearance look better in comparison is to draw attention away from themselves and attack their
opponent s character. This technique is referred to as ad hominem and it is one of the most
common ones used in this year s presidential debates. A prime example of this is when Donald
Trump once said, Unstable Hillary Clinton, lacks the judgment, temperament and moral
character to lead this country and I believe that so strongly, he then later continued with, She s
really pretty close to unhinged, and you ve seen, you ve seen it a couple times. The people in
the background know it, the people who know her know it and she s like an unbalanced person.
In this claim he has completely left the topic of what truly matters and has started to stray away
from it in an attempt to make Hillary seem inferior. All of this is a battle of image over image.
Louis Menand wrote, Our national politics has become a competition for images or between
images, rather than between ideals (Source C). This statement just backs up the idea that we ve
started to focus on looks rather than

  • 2. The Dangers Of White Lies In Shakespeare s King Lear Lies and secrets are like cancer in the soul. They eat away what is good and leave only destruction behind . But can lying be acceptable? What about white lies? The small lies we tell to protect other people or simply to avoid hurting one s feelings by saying no of course you don t look fat in those jeans . The problem about these white lies is not knowing what is too far and in the end a lieis a lie. Lying ultimately masks over reality and warps our minds into believing an altered perception of reality; however, the question stands, is lying to change one s reality for the better truly that bad? King Leardoes an exquisite job at showing how lying does destroy familyties and, on the more dramatic side, has the ability of ending with a lot of dead bodies. The play does however show how lying can be helpful temporarily, but the lies never end well. Lies create barriers that obstruct trust and breakdown family ties and overall cause more harm than good. Even though white lies may avoid hurting one s relationship, they break the trust between people. Today s society has accepted white lies as they provide comfort and boost one s self esteem; however, in King Lear these little white lies destroy family ties. For example, King Lear asks his daughters to express how strong their love is for their father and the amount of love determines their inheritance. The two eldest daughters shower their father in white lies full of flattery, Sir, I love you more than words can wield the matter... A love that makes breath poor and speech unable (1.1 20 60). However, the youngest daughter simply tells the truth that she cannot heave her heart into her mouth (1.1 90). Therefore, the youngest daughter s inheritance is taken away and split between the two eldest daughters. Simple flattery destroyed a fathers relationship with his only honest daughter. The lies told by the eldest daughters were not white lies to protect anyone, but white lies for their greed of power. The first stage in the corruption of morals is the banishment of truth (Montaigne) and these small flattering white lies led to the moral of not murdering family members vanish. The white lies started the war that led to the death of the characters in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some of the best models are designed for specific organizations because it is usually difficult to describe key leadership skills with a broad brush. However, there are some fundamental skills that all great leaders share in common regardless of the type of group that they are leading. Whether you are leading a commercial enterprise or a nonprofit organization, or if you are an elected leader in government, these are five key leadershipskills that you must master: Strategic Thinking: Leaders must be able to think strategically. Political Savvy: Political savvy is a skill that leaders use to assess the needs of the various stakeholder groups within their organization. They are also good at recognizing who represents these groups as key subordinate leaders within their organization. Using their political skills, great leaders are able to build coalitions by common cause among the key stakeholders. If a leader is unable to build collation, they will find it very difficult to move ahead with their agenda. Resilience: Resilience is the skill that leaders need to overcome obstacles. No matter what agenda or vision the leader may want to pursue, it is always the case that they will run into road blocks on their journey. • 4. Disadvantages Of Tapons 1.Issue description: Hint: Be specific in your description, of what your activity is specifically, what is its frequency, etc. and why it is not sustainable. My Sustainability Assessment will address the unsustainable effects of Tampons ecologically and socially. Tampons are greatly used among women, as they approximately use 9,300 tampons in their lifetime. It is also very convenient and compact as it can be seen on every store shelf. However, there are many disadvantages in its use. Every woman has their period every month. Hence, the tampons are greatly needed. With this need is a health risk that can affect women in the future, such as dioxin residue, and chemicals in fragrances that are found within the tampon itself. In these chemicals lies a more dangerous risk, which is Toxic Shock Syndrome, pelvic inflammation to name a few. Thus, a woman s need can also be the one that can put her in danger. Tampons, as small as it can seem, can also harm the environment. The production of cotton uses pesticides that can be carcinogenic and can leave traces in tampons. The plastic applicator found in tampons can harm marine ecosystem and can take years to degrade. The tampon, itself, that are found in landfills can t also degrade and can cause carbon emissions. On the other hand, Tampons are controlled and manufactured by well known companies such as Procter Gamble, and Johnson Johnson, which makes it economically stable. Feminine products, such as tampons, can increase up to the US $35.4 Billion in global sales. With this power, they can deceive the customers into thinking that their product is safe when it is not. 2.Desired outcomes: Briefly explain each of the following outcomes: (a)My issue is/is not ecologically sound because... Tampons have always been in the garbage every month, as every woman uses it. Its waste can amount to 62, 415lbs. This garbage, without proper disposal, can end in landfills, which can take up more than a year to degrade. A tampon has super absorbent, dense fibers that are petroleum based, which takes up a slower process to degrade in areas that are at a colder temperature. Moreover, its plastic applicators can also be a cause in harming the marine ecosystem. Some of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Deborah Pennimpede s What Is A Commuter Student Coherence and emphasis in an essay are almost as important in an essay as is the content is. Without coherence and emphasis, the reader will simply lose interest in the essay or they will be unable to follow what the author is trying to share. However, the author must be considerate about when and how coherence and emphasis are created. In the essay, What is a Commuter Student? by Deborah Pennimpede, the author advantageously employs strategies of coherence and emphasis throughout. The coherence in the essay What is a Commuter Student? is like peanut butter between two pieces of bread it holds the essay together, while at the same time makes it easy to digest. The author has to pick and choose how they are going to emphasize what they are saying so that it does not become overbearing to the reader. One way that Deborah Pennimpede does this well is through her sentence choices with a powerful use of periodic sentences, short sentences and interrogative sentences. The author is very deliberate in where she chooses to place periodic sentences. She knows that an essay that is littered with them is hard for the reader, and so she only places a few periodic sentences in the entire essay. One of her strongest periodic sentences is the following: If a pickup truck doesn t try to pass me at the blind corner at Maple Street and if I avoid the drivers who want to play bumper cars on the Salem Dodgem Rotary, I stand a chance of making it to school. This is such a strong use of a periodic sentence because the author is keeping the reader on the edge of their seat until the very end of the sentence. The placement of the sentence is very tasteful as well, as it is a linking sentence between two different thoughts in the paragraph. Another strength in the author s writing style is her use of short sentences. These sentences are short and to the point. They make excellent topic sentences and concluding sentences because they don t lose the reader. The reader can tell ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Analysis Of `` Still I Rise, And Welty s `` A Worn Path `` Literature offered an approach for African Americans to demonstrate their humanity and an ability for creative invention and imaginary thought. Writing later developed into an instrument through which African Americans could voice not only their rejection of institutionalized racism and slavery but also their desire for equality and freedom. African American literature continues to be a method in countering the incompetence or misrepresentation of black people in history. Two prominent female writers during this era were Maya Angelou and Eudora Welty. Angelou was a civil rights activist and educator and expressed her emotions in her works. Her poem, Still I Rise, was written to describe her willingness to overcome oppression. Welty expressed black triumph through her character in her short story, A Worn Path . Although both works tells stories of racial and female empowerment, they express these ideas in distinctive methods. Angelou s Still I Rise and Welty s A Worn Path are both written during a time of racial and sexual oppression. Both authors were African American females who grew up during extreme racial subjugation. Angelou speaks about overcoming oppression and prejudice in her poem, Still I Rise . She carries a confident tone, assuring that she will overcome her troubles, asserting, Just like moons and like suns, / With the certainty of tides, / Just like hopes springing high, / Still, I ll rise (Angelou 10 13). Theme Of Capitalism In Life In The Iron Mills Bianca Chirinos Professor Karafilis English 3600 November 3, 2017 Industrial Capitalism in Life in the Iron Mills In the novella, Life in the Iron Mills, by Rebecca Harding Davis an extraordinary compelling portrait is depicted of the 1830 s powerless and tired labor class. To further describe her subject, Davis uses body markers such as: race, gender, and class identification and limited language through her characters in order to shed light on the oppressive chains of industrial capitalism. Influenced by the events going on around her during the American Civil War (1861 1865), Davis focuses and addresses her short literary realism story towards the middle and upper class entrepreneurs who were polluting the Industrial Revolution. As new mills and factories were being established to only on produce profits, at the expense of lower class workers. Who, mostly consisted of, unskilled peasants, immigrants, laborers, and farmers. Markers of class identification are inflected in Davis literary realism story by two bodily markers: race/ethnicity and gender. The narrator of the novella describes a notable difference in between the poor mill workers working for Kirby and John s Mill versus the five powerful blue collared visitors. For example, Hugh Wolf s father, who is a Welsh immigrant, works as puddler at the mill making iron. He has no option but to settle for a low social paying job that in the long run will make the rich richer and the poor poorer. From which, he will only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, in the fictional The Things They Carried, by Tim O Brien, he turns the idea on its head: a story does not necessarily have to be honest if the emotions behind the story are. O Brien uses techniques such as hyperbolic characters and verisimilitude to show his audiencethat while the verbatim anecdotes are not true, the sentiment behind them is true. Early Christian Beliefs Initially, communities of early Christian believers were able to choose their own leaders; however, as centuries passed, the practice of having secular rulers choose appoint church leaders became routine. Initially, communities of early Christian believers were able to choose their own leaders; however, as centuries passed, the practice of having secular rulers choose appoint church leaders became routine. For the countless numbers of amateur athletes, college sporting events represent high quality competition, education about the sport, and shear excitement of cheering on the favorite team. Although sporting equality differs in the minds of people, I encourage athletes to focus on the academic side of school. Within all the publicity these highly recruited players receive, the rules appear to bend based on the students athletic ability. Even with collegefootball being the third most popular sport in America, I firmly disapprove that the academic standard for athletes should be lowered. I do like to party when the sun comes out. On many LSU football teams, half of the players make up a group called special admits ; this means large groups of athletes do not gain the academic knowledge and achievements as the normal students do. The undeniable issue brought forth by colleges doing this is that no matter how talented a player is, they will not be able to play any sport their entire lives; therefore, it is impeccable that every college athlete receives a desirable education. Most Protists are often described as simple organisms; however, their cellular organization and metabolism are as complex as other higher organisms (McGraw Hill, 2017). Therefore, comparing between three of these supergroups will make us understand their classification in that specific group. Paramecium, Amoeba, and Euglena are three eukaryotic organisms that can be interesting to compare them for several reasons. One of them is that these three organisms cause the most harmful illness to the human body. Also, their structural differences are very exciting to look at under the microscope. An Analysis of Seawater Intrusion in Coastal Aquifers Seawater intrusion is defined as the movement of seawater into freshwater aquifers which are generally made of ground water near the coast. An interface or dispersion zone is the area where fresh water and seawater meet. Analytical models and numerical models as well as Mathematical methods are used to find or to investigate solutions to this, as the seawater contaminates the fresh drinking water. The aim of this essay is to give an account of two modelling approaches that describe what happens at the interface by discussing the models. As well as to discuss how tides may have an impact on seawater intrusion. Ataie Ashtiani, Volker and Lockington(1999:17) suggested that there is a direct relationship between the area of the dispersion, the scale, the shape, the degree of the dispersion area, and parameters such as hydraulic conductivity, the comparative densities of the salt and fresh water as well as the rate of discharge of the ground water. There is limited accuracy to the usage of the models as the models are limited by assuming various situations. Altaie Ashtiani et al (1999:18) gestates the rare occurrence of salt water intrusion in ground water in two ways: the sharp interface approach and the disperse interface approach. The sharp interface approach is the approach in which it should be assumed that the salt water and fresh water are immiscible fluids which are separated by a sharp interface. The field of counseling takes many forms and offers many career options, from school counseling to marriage and family therapy. As there are numerous styles in existence, it is important to be aware of the many approaches available to take. For my research two psychological approaches, Psychodynamic Psychotherapyand Person Centered Psychology, will be critically analyzed and discussed in depth in order to compare the techniques as well as effectiveness of each. Foundation of Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy was developed by Sigmund Freud during the Victorian Era in Vienna, Austria. Sigmund Freud s psychological works set the base for the profession of psychology as well as the practice of modern psychotherapy. Freud believed human behavior was motivated by intrapsychic conflict stemming from the three areas of the subconscious: id, ego, and superego (Murdock, 2009). Freud s psychoanalytic approach to therapy had more of a negative view of human nature that Carl Rogers view. Freud thought human dysfunction developed as a result of poor genetic make up, as well as deficits (fixations) caused by missed psychosexual developmental stages. In short, human conflict came about as a result of struggles between the id (primal, instinctual urges), ego (role of self in reality) and superego (conscience/critic), manifested in the ... I believe beauty standards made by pop culture are not only destroying the meaning of beauty, but also it s causing us to feel vulnerable, insecure and unsatisfied with the way we look. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the last part of the assignment we are asked to identify the arguments as inductive or deductive. An argument is said to be deductive if its conclusion is claimed to necessarily follow the premise. An inductive argument claims only that its conclusion probably follows from its premises. That is, the inferential claim is that since the premises are true or acceptable, the conclusion is likely to be true or acceptable. (Missimer, 2005) The first and second examples are inductive because even though the premises may be true, it is still possible for the conclusion to be false. • 42. Lupus s Constellation The Constellation I chose is Lupus, also called „the Wolf . It s located in the southern sky and was one of the 48 constellations, which were listed by Ptolemy, a second century astronomer. Previously it was an asterism associated with its neighbour constellation Centaurus, but belongs to the now 88 official constellations. It has nine main stars, 41 Bayer stars and five stars with planets. Lupus is surrounded by six different constellations: Hydra, Scorpius, Norma, Circinus, Libra and Centaurus. I decided to write about this constellation, because I ve always been fascinated by wolfs and wanted to know more about the constellation named after it. Officially the constellation Lupus doesn t have a myth belonging to it, but it can be based on the story of the ancient king of Arcadia, king Lycaon. The Concert At Alice Tully Hall Throughout the semester, I went to several concerts, some classical in nature, some more popular, and even a bit of house music made by DJs which was not really my style. One of the concerts that took me out of my comfort zone the most was performed by a Juilliard Orchestra and conducted by Juilliard faculty member, Jeffrey Millarsky. The concert took place at Alice Tully Hall, a Lincoln Center concert venue. It is not as large as Lincoln Center s opera house, but still a sizable space and it was quite full. The audience was comprised mostly of older adults, many of whom were probably aficionados of classical music, or of Lincoln Center shows in general. There were also some students there to support their classmates, some of whom were talking loudly behind me about how they had fallen asleep at the last show Jeff had conducted. There were also likely some family members who were supporting specific students. For example, I noticed how important the night must be for the first violinist and her family as I watched her shake hands with the conductor, and later the viola soloist, this was the culmination of years of work. Then there was me, who did not really fit into any of the other categories of audience members. Fortunately, it was nothing like a high school show where someone might notice you do not belong. It was professional. Even the room was such a professional feeling space. One of the loudly talking kids talked about how he loved the way sound cut in Tully and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. The Reflection Of The Human Eye Work How does the human eye work? The cornea is clear and at the front of the eye. When light rays enter it, the cornea refracts it through the pupil and then the iris. The iris controls how much light may pass through the pupil by expanding or shrinking. Next, the light ray will enter the lens. This also refracts light by changing its shape with the help of the ciliary muscles and the suspensory ligaments. The light will go through a dense jelly like tissue named the vitreous humour and eventually focused at the back of the eye onto the retina. The retina is a light sensitive tissue and covered with rods and cones. These receptors will capture the light ray and transform it into electrical impulses. They get sent off through the nerve fibres, then the optic nerve, and then finally the brain. The picture given by the retina is upside down so our brain will next turn it the right way up. Our bodies have the capability to endure large scars but, a slight scar on the cornea can lead up to our vision becoming impaired. The retina will process the light rays, into light impulses that need to be transferred to the brain to create an image, which are focused on to them by the cornea. So, any deep injures experienced by the cornea can lead to corneal scarring which would affect our vision. We as people have begun to want to appoint our official leaders based on who looks better and televisionhas helped feed this desire for the worst. Theodore White thought that Kennedy benefited because his image on television was crisp ; Nixon s light colored suit, wrong makeup, bad posture was fuzzed (Source C). He is saying that Kennedy acknowledged the fact that his appearance made a big difference in how the people looked at him and he made sure that he was up to par with his looks. Another way they make their appearance look better in comparison is to draw attention away from themselves and attack their opponent s character. This technique is referred to as ad hominem and it is one of the most common ones used in this year s presidential debates. A prime example of this is when Donald Trump once said, Unstable Hillary Clinton, lacks the judgment, temperament and moral character to lead this country and I believe that so strongly, he then later continued with, She s really pretty close to unhinged, and you ve seen, you ve seen it a couple times. The people in the background know it, the people who know her know it and she s like an unbalanced person. In this claim he has completely left the topic of what truly matters and has started to stray away from it in an attempt to make Hillary seem inferior. All of this is a battle of image over image.
