The Alaska Highway Essay
In 1942, fifteen thousand American soldiers and civilian laborers poured into Alberta, British
Columbia, and the Yukon to construct a highway stretching from mainland United States to Alaska. In
doing so, they had to overcome obstacles of climate, terrain, and manpower (see Figure 1). The
construction of the Alaska Highway serves an enlightening episode where Canadian and American
interest in northern development and continental defense became intertwined. The continental projects
in the North west, including the Alaska Highway, North West Staging route, and the CANOL pipeline
marked a new period in Canadian American relations. There has been a tendency in the historiography
to over emphasize the threat that the American presence on Canadian ... Show more content on

Funding and labour for the highway were provided by the United States, and so Ottawa looked
forward to acquiring, at American expense, an all weather road that would hold great commercial
value for the region in the post war. Worries of sovereignty were not the priority at this point in time
as the fate of the war still remained unsure in early 1942. In addition to the expected post war
economic benefits, the American presence served the wartime strategic aims of both the American and
Canadian Governments, as they urgently sought the continent against the possibility of encroachment
from both the Western threat of Japan and the eastern threat of Germany. This was particularly true
until 1943, as the fate as the war still uncertain. As the war began to strongly favour the Allies, the
Canadian government was able to re address concerns such as northern development and increasing its
involvement in north west defense projects. Until the end of the war, Canada maintained a policy to
mitigate potential issues arising from the continued need for continental defense projects that would
result in American presence within Canadian boundaries. The war years were an opportunity for the
Canadian Government to prepare itself for a post war reality, where the Canadian North would remain
a strategic location in a conflict between the Soviet Union and the United

Chain of Custody Preservation of Evidence
Chain of Custody amp; Preservation of Evidence Idris Rawls Westwood College It does not matter the
reputation you have earned for your high integrity and honesty, you will always be open to allegations
of civil or criminal liability. The first type of evidence and usually the most obvious is physical
evidence. Evidence can be anything from tangible objects such as cartridge cases and firearms to
latent fingerprints and DNA. Evidence collection or recovery step in crime scene processing is the
methods, techniques, and procedures used in retrieving evidence. Patience and care are very important
at the crime scene. The criminalist should take the proper time and care in processing the scene. The

2009). One friend even helped clean the kitchen, wiping down the counters with a spray cleaner
possibly wiping away evidence. Many hours passed before police blocked off the basement room. A
pathologist did not examine the body until more than 18 hours after the crime took place (Bardsley,
M., amp; Bellamy, P. n.d.). The type of evidence that was found in the JonBenet Ramsey case was
both latent and visible. DNA traces were found on the child s body and clothing, and footprints were
analyzed in the basement. In addition, a ransom note was found on the stairs by the mother Patricia
Ramsey. Fibers from blankets, carpet, clothing, bedding, car interiors and other materials can be
identified and traced by the forensic team. The different between the latent and visible evidence are as
follows According to Saferstein, R. (2011), Latent evidence is evidence at a crime scene that cannot be
seen with the eyes. Examples might be a blood stain that was bleached out, or semen stains that can t
be seen without special lighting, or a fingerprint on an on even surface, such as a tree (pp. 400).
Saferstein, R. (2011), also argues that visible evidence are made when an object touches a surface after
the ridges have been in contact with a colored material such as blood, paint grease, or ink, (pp. 400,
para. 1). I do not believe that there was a secure chain of custody due to the fact the crime scene had
already been contaminated. However, once the evidence was collected the

Word Accuracy And Word Frequency Essay
This study is a conceptualized replication of the Howes and Solomon (1951) experiment investigating
word accuracy and word frequency in short duration trials. It is hypothesized that words that appear
more often in printed text (easier to access in the lexicon) will be more accurately identified rather
than words that appear less commonly. A total of 83 participants in the study were presented with
words taken from the Throndike Lorge database. The words were presented for one second with a six
second rest in the middle. This was done sixty times and the results suggest a moderate strong
relationship between word accuracy and frequency. Though there are multiple factors that may have
influenced these results. Introduction Word recognition involves an individual s ability to identify
words independently without requiring related words for contextual help. A widely examined topic in
the field of cognitive psychology, it deals with understanding printed letters as a word which has been
kept in the lexicon. The word frequency effect is important in the recognition of words. It suggests
more common words in printed language are easier, faster and more accurate to distinguish than words
that appear less frequently. Outlined in their journal article, Howes and Solomon utilized Thorndike
Lorge s word count for word frequency and measured the threshold of recognition. They found
correlation coefficients of .68 to .75 between word frequency and threshold or duration.

The Importance Of Pay For Performance Program Essay
Introduction The report investigates the significance of pay for performance program. A review of
existing literature on the subject matter will be done in view of providing an explanation on the
subject. The focus will be on theoretical frameworks that explore the issue of labor force performance
in relation to pay and incentives. The hypothesis guiding this investigation is that 1) better pay
improves performance, 2) better pay reduces the rate of turnover, 3) that a good incentive and reward
system improves worker s motivation and loyalty to the company , and 4) pay could take any form or
be substituted for leisure, less work hours or rewards. The findings will be used to analyze various
companies in Singapore, while at the same time showcasing the value of the concepts discussed and
possible problems that could arise. The final section will conclude with recommendations to improve
labor supply through good pay. Section AA1. Fair Work Commission Background The Fair Work
Commission (FWC), formerly known as Fair Work Australia, was established as an outcome of the
Fair Work Act of 2009 in the same year (FWC 2016). The FWC was formed as a tribunal and assumed
the responsibilities of other similar organizations, namely the Australian Industrial Relations
Commission and the Australian Industrial Registry both of which were constituted in early twentieth
century, as well as the Australian Fair Pay Commission which was established in 2005 (FWC 2016).

Winter Descriptive Writing
It was a flurry and cold winter day, the kind of day when every breath stings the lungs and every
exhale chills the lips. Living in Iowa, I was used to the frigid winter, but this unsuspecting day would
forever change Emily Kriz. My mother and I had just entered the frosted glass doors at our local
Michaels after having the usual tedious chat about keeping your hands to yourself and looking with
our eyes, not our hands. I acted as though I was listening, adding in subtle head nods as I watched
each individual snowflake fall crisply onto the ground, as if each had a strict road map to a anticipated
location. Upon entering, we saw a winter wonderland. The fragrance of frosted pine wafted through
the nipping air that had snuck in from the outdoors and tingled my petite fingers and toes. With every
blink of the eye there was something newfangled and wondrous to look at. It had seemed as though
Michaels was decorated for a gala, with only the finest and most stunning decorations on display, but
with every piece of pristine decor in is precise spot. We browsed the aisles, with each aisle as colorful
and exciting as the rest. We were nearing the end of the isles when I saw it, a display of candles that
drew my eyes in like no other. My mom had turned her cart down the aisle filled with all the eyeful
winter floral pieces, and at this moment I knew it was my time to do what I had been told not to, I
needed to reach out and smell one of those candles that had tunneled my vision. I

Naked by David Sedaris Essay
David Sedaris is a one of the best selling authors. One of his books is called Naked. In this book he
talks about his life. David Sedaris is a great writer who wrote about his family and himself when he
was growing up. While most people usually don t like talking about the humiliating moments of their
lives, he presents the reader with his own obsessions and the numerous interesting and funny events
from the life of his family. Sedaris uses a lot of sarcasm in his book; therefore it is very appealing and
interesting to read. Sedaris was able to see the irony in any situation. I think this quality is very
important in dealing with different issues in our lives. In the chapter A Plague of Tics , Sedaris
describes his obsessive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the book, Sedaris also talks about his family members. It seems that he did not have much love for
his father but he respects, appreciates and even feels bad for his mother for having to deal with her
husband and her mother in law. In the chapter Get Your Ya Ya s Out , Sedaris shows the relationship
between his family and his grandmother, Ya Ya. The two women hated each other. Even after so many
years of marriage, Ya Ya did not call her daughter in law by name: The girl was what she called my
mother (p.25). After being hit by a truck, Ya Ya moved in with the author and his mother had to take
care of her: ...it was my mother s thankless job to prepare a special diet and cart her around town for
her numerous doctor s appointments (p.31). Sedaris does not say in the book whether he loved his
grandmother and it seems like he was accepting her as a given part of the family but had no emotional
feelings for her. When she passed away, he had to make a scene ...to impress [his roommate] as a
sensitive and complex individual (p.37). He cried but it was not a sincere cry. The death itself did not
bother him as much as showing off in front of his roommate. Sedaris s father was very overprotective
of his kids. He thought he knew everything and no one around him knew better. For any moment and
any incident, he had a story from his own life. He would tell them to be careful with guns because
once he shot out his best friend s eye. At Fourth

Why Abortion Should Stop The Abortion
Why Abortion Should stopped
For everyone an abortion is defined as the removal of an embryo or fetus from the uterus from a
female, in order to end a pregnancy (Webster, Merriam). Abortions are wrong because one cannot
create life; therefore a person should not be able to terminate a life before it actually starts. Depending
on the situation people may feel that abortions are justifiable. Due to a person being too young, or just
simply unprepared. I feel that either way that it is murder. We wouldn t accept a serial killer roam the
streets as if nothing happened. In this argument it is the same thing. (The book of exodus 20:1 7)
clearly states thou shall not kill. You can t avoid that in any form or fashion (exodus 20:1 7). Every
human being has a right to life even if they are not born, yet there are no rules to stop this crime.
I feel that abortions should be illegal anywhere on this planet. I searched up some facts about how
abortions can hurt you in The killing of an human was doing no wrong is a horrible act, even if that
human being has yet to be born. Unborn babies are considered human or soon to be humans by the
government and people who actually cares about humans. The federal Unborn Victims of Violence
Act, which was made to protect unborn children from assault and murder. The law states that under
federal law, anybody intentionally killing or attempting to kill an unborn child should be trialed for on
purposely killing or attempting an abortion. At least 38

had a miscarriage at Hampton Court Palace and four months later was sentenced to death on the
charge of unfaithfulness. the day before, the king became engaged to Jane Seymour. she had come to
court in 1530 and served her two predecessors as lady inwaiting. she died in October 1537 while
giving birth to the heir of the throne. she was the only wife of the king that was buried together with
Henry at Windsor castle. Hans Holbein had made a career for himself and had lived in London since

the one tone background of the painting is a concession to the interests of the court portrait. holbein

Jane Seymour s jewelry, her garment, and her slightly pale features are focussed in a even light and

Pros And Cons Of The Njac
Advocates for the government and several states have argued that the NJAC would improve judicial
selection and the quality of the judiciary and that the NJAC does not violate the basic structure. In
defending the NJAC, Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi argued that expanding the appointment process
to include a more formal role for the law minister, along with two eminent persons, would help lead to
a more diverse and representative judiciary that is more accountable to the people. Also, the
government argued that a switch to the NJAC would improve the quality and merit of judicial
appointments, going so far as to impugn the merit of specific appointments under the collegium.
Furthermore, senior advocate K.K. Venugopal, representing the state of Madhya Pradesh, argued that
the NJAC did not violate the basic structure, as Article 124 has drafted conferred primacy on the
executive, not the judiciary, in judicial appointments and that the Supreme Court had ... Show more

Radical interpretive exercises tread the thin line between judicial interpretation and legislative
amendment. Also, a equitably recent attempt at modifying the effect of a law (in which the provisions
for appointment of Information Commissioners under the Right to Information Act 2005 were recast)
came under severe criticism, following which the Supreme Court stepped back from its judgment in a
review petition.
Most importantly, some of the interpretive possibilities articulated here may have produced an
appointments process that closely resembles the existing collegium system. Thus, the NJAC could
become the collegium in disguise. If that would have happened, then, the Supreme Court would have
successfully struck down the amendment without being transparent about doing so.

Demoralization In The Awakening
To demoralize someone is to dishearten or discourage them and cause them to lose hope. Kate Chopin
uses words like depressed (56), hopeless (56) and despondency (p115) to describe Edna, the heroine,
in The Awakening. Coupling this description with Edna taking her life at the end of the novel and
Chopin s own inferred demoralization, due to the almost universal aversion to The Awakening, the
natural conclusion is that it is a work of great personal demoralization , (Companion 5) as Michael
Levenson states. Levenson suggests most modernist authors and artists paint a bleak picture of their
time period because they are demoralized. Although the portrait Chopin paints of female oppression in
1899 is to some degree demoralizing, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mrs. Pontellier s soul is shaken, causing a seismic shift in her, but she is not the only one affected as
all of the partygoers were moved by Mademoiselle Reisz s performance. This alludes to Kate Chopin s
desire to inspire her audience in the same manner as she purposely chooses a piece of music by the
renowned composer Frederic Chopin. She suggests that art is an important aspect of an awakening as
it has the ability to touch the soul. In the next scene Mrs. Pontellier suddenly learns to swim and
Chopin describes, A feeling of exultation overtook her, as if some power of significant import had
been given her to control the working of her body and her soul. (p27). Mrs. Pontellier now fully awake
realizes that she has control over body, she has autonomy, and Chopin emphasizes her individuality by
referring to her as Edna. Her awakening is important because in 1899, women did not have autonomy;
their main purpose was domesticity. The church and patriarchy reined over women who were the
property of their husbands and considered inferior to men with no sexual desire. Chopin presents Mr.
Pontellier as a perfect specimen of late nineteenth century patriarchy. Some women thrive in this
culture as Chopin demonstrates through Mrs. Ratignolle. However, for many women, like Edna this
world was suffocating. The natural reaction to this oppression is feminism, but Chopin does not
preach feminism in her novel.

Aristotle s Balance of Eudaimonia
Aristotle s balance of Eudaimonia
Aristotle, the son of Nicomachus(Aristotle), known as the philosopher, was born in 384 B.C.E, in a
small city named Stagira in northern Greece. During his lifetime, he studied variety of subjects and
brought knowledge to all aspects (Blackburn). He viewed that as a human, a subject who s determined
goal is to reach virtue and Arête, is connected with nature and its balance (Golden Mean). Aristotle
also viewed a good life as political questions. He analyzed that human s basic shape of desire and aim
is formed at the age of six (Hare). The good life, then, was defined by Aristotle as the activity of the
soul in accordance with virtue. According to Aristotle, a good life is maintaining the balance of virtue
and vice, and Eudaimonia of the soul in that one would be satisfied with the accomplishments done
(Bambic).
Aristotle believed that everything has a function aiming for the good, and that politics are an important
factor for functioning well. He stated in Nicomachean Ethics, one of his manuscript books, that the
purpose of living is functioning well and learning moral philosophy. Aristotle studied logic to explain
phenomenon s, and believed that logic is the precondition of knowledge ( Palmer 91). Using this logic,
He claimed that every act has a purpose, which is defined as good . Aristotle proves that everything
has a function, and that human beings have a function. Hence, if something functioning well is good,

How do instruments automatically achieve a kind of irresistible cachet just because they ve clocked up
a bit of mileage?Once upon a time a 1958 Fender Stratocaster was just a second hand guitar; now, it s
a holy relic. Let s face it, the vintage instrument market has become VERY silly over the last 20 years
or so, with investors all over the world hoovering up any old six string with a few dings, wrinkles and

myself, I can remember pressing my nose up against the shop windows of London s Tin Pan Alley
during the early 1970s and lusting after Gibson Les Pauls. Back then, I wanted to be Jimmy Page and
so I reasoned that I had to equip myself with the right tool for the job. Some of the guitars that set my
eyes aglow back then were undoubtedly the Grail instruments of today s vintage market but in those
days they would have probably cost around £275, including a case and a spare set of strings.Alas, I
never bought a Les Paul back then, settling instead for a Gibson SG which I sold several years later
when I caught a bad case of jazz and consequently renounced solid body guitars in favour of arch tops.

Eastlink was aimed to connect the eastern north south region; it connects the eastern freeway to
Frankston freeway. The land of the toll road was set aside by the government in 1960 to and in 2002
the project was officially accepted in policy.[ K. Wellman, Marcus Spiller, 2012. Urban Infrastructure:

G.I. Bill of Rights
The GI Bill gave all returning veterans the freedom and opportunities that non veterans had, and
provided them with many benefits needed to live the American dream. The GI Bill gave the United
States veterans education. It also provided VA hospitals with veteran benefits. The law also made a
possible loan of billions of dollars to purchase homes for millions of veterans. The G.I Bill gave
opportunity to pursue formal education which a lot of veterans did since education was pretty much
paid for. In the short run, many colleges and universities were seriously jeopardized. In the late 1940 s
veterans bought homes in many of the new suburbs for $8,000 with no down payment required.
World War II had a great toll on the nation s economy. It hurt many Americans, and a lot of them had
to leave their education to serve as soldiers and sailors. The war used many of the already shorted
resources, and with a lot of the men who ran farms, bakeries, and meat providers being taken into war,
this led to a shortage of cash flow and resources. During WWII Roosevelt talked over the matter with
President George F. Zook and other leaders of the American Council of Education. He believed the
federal government had a responsibility and an important role in helping returning veterans get an
education. Several Bills branched off the GI Bill including a Vocational Rehabilitation Bill. This bill
provided federal funds to retrain and rehabilitate veterans who had been disabled in the civilian
defense industry. In a quote from history.com, In his speech at the signing of the bill, Roosevelt

The Wife Of Bath, By Geoffrey Chaucer
The Wife of Bath, emphasizing The Prologue of the Wife of Bath s Tale and the The Prologue in
Geoffrey Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, is an example of the Middle English concept that male authors
reflect misogynistic ideals of society onto female characters. With the Wife of Bath, she is a fictional
character, as told by Chaucer, going on a Pilgrimage, with constant ridicule for her sexuality and
multiple marriages. Chaucer portrays her as a previously battered wife who uses her sexual
promiscuity as a way of control. He uses his progressive views to give the Wife of Bath power, but
also reflects societal views from the period through responses and actions taken during her life.
Although the abilities of women progressed in the Middle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This subtle judgment alludes to the importance of her sexual habits and her compromised chastity, but
also objectifies her as well. The narrator continues on by pointing out the fact that she had been
married five times, an atypical habit for women during this time, which continues to oversexualize her
character. Later in Canterbury Tales, during The Prologue of the Wife of Bath , she addresses the
abnormal amount of marriages she has had. She recognizes that Jesus is said to frown upon more than
one marriage, but she quickly backlashes those accusations and claims no word of what the number
was to be/ then why not marry two or even eight? And why speak evil of this married state? ( The
Wife of Bath s Prologue Chaucer 259). She also claims that she would gladly take a sixth husband,
and, due to her interpretation of Bible, it is completely acceptable to marry as many men as she wants.
At the end of his introduction to the wife of Bath, the narrator points out that she is adventurous and
well traveled, an accomplishment unfamiliar to most women. The narrator simply states and she had
thrice been to Jerusalem,/ seen many strange rivers and passed over them;/ she d been to Rome and
also to Boulogne,/ St. James of Compostella and cologne,/ and she was skilled in wandering by the
way ( TP Chaucer 15). Even though her travels are unusual for women of the period , they are quickly

(652) 1. An emergency department nurse is assessing a client who has sustained a blunt injury to the
chest wall. Which of these signs would indicate the presence of a pneumothorax in this client? *
Diminished breath sounds
Rationale: This client has sustained a blunt or a closed chest injury. Basic symptoms of a closed
pneumothorax are shortness of breath and chest pain. A larger pneumothorax may cause tachypnea,
cyanosis, diminished breath sounds, and subcutaneous emphysema. Hyperresonance also may occur
on the affected side. A sucking sound at the site of injury would be noted with an open chest injury.

If side effects develop, especially cardiac irregularities, the procedure is stopped and the client is
reoxygenated. * * (659) 8. A nurse is assessing the respiratory status of a client who has suffered a
fractured rib. The nurse would expect to note which of the following? * Pain, especially with
inspiration * Rationale: Rib fractures are a common injury, especially in the older client, and result
from a blunt injury or a fall. Typical signs and symptoms include pain and tenderness localized at the
fracture site and exacerbated by inspiration and palpation, shallow respirations, splinting or guarding
the chest protectively to minimize chest movement, and possible bruising at the fracture site.
Paradoxical respirations are seen with flail chest. * * (660) 9. A client with a chest injury has suffered
flail chest. A nurse assesses the client for which most distinctive sign of flail chest? * Paradoxical
chest movement * Rationale: Flail chest results from multiple rib fractures. This results in a floating
section of the ribs. Because this section is unattached to the rest of the bony rib cage, this segment
results in paradoxical chest movement. This means that the force of inspiration pulls the fractured
segment inward, while the rest of the chest expands. Similarly, during exhalation, the segment
balloons outward while the rest of the chest moves inward. This is a

As they are walking to the store where he gets his clothes Leigh Ann asks Michael, You are going to
protect me right? Michael answers, I got your back. For both sides of Michael and Leigh Ann, they are
together experiencing a way of life they never knew about. For example, Michael is experiencing the
way Leigh Ann and her family live, as rich, successful and involved people for as Leigh Ann is
experiencing where Michael came from and how he was raised in this low poverty community and
violent lifestyle. Leigh Ann goes on a frequent lunch with three other white women, as they had done
on many times before. The women ask Leigh Ann if adopting Michael is a white guilt trip and Leigh
Ann replies back to them, I do not need you all to make my choices, but I do ask that you respect
them. They then tell her that he is changing her life and it is a great decision. Leigh Ann tells him that
he is changing her life. This shows how the ladies were disrespectful in the beginning thinking it was

History of Electricity in Kerala
HISTORY OF ELECTRICITY IN KERALA
Dr D Shina
S N COLLEGE, Kollam, Kerala, India email achushina@gmail.com
ORIGIN AND GROWTH OF ELECTRICITY
The history of electricity can be traced back to the eighteenth century. The first instance of sensing the
phenomenon of electricity was the accidental observation of what was later found out to be neon glow
by Framas Bauksbw in 1709 at the Royal Society in London. Luigi Galvani observed moving of the
legs of a dead frog when touched with a metal scalpel. This also was later found to have happened due
to production of electricity by chemical process. Almost at the same time, Alessandro Volta made the
first form of battery. Thus a new phenomenon, the Electric current, was produced which paved the ...

The emergence of more Power Stations and Transmission lines throughout the country didn t take
much time. Till 1948, Electricity generation, transmission and distribution were governed by
Electricity Act 1910. The Government used to give licences for generation, transmission and
distribution of power. But this type of approach was not conducive to a balanced and sufficient growth
in this key sector. There was absence of co ordination and a meaningful orientation for fast
development of the power sector. The importance of electricity industry was duly recognized by that
time and an active role in the field was taken by the government.
State Electricity Boards
When India got independence, the installed capacity of the country was a meagre 1940 MW. The
enacting of the Electricity Supply Act 1948 paved the way for establishing the State Electricity
Boards. It was a major keystone in the history of Electricity in India, which brought this prime
industry under the public sector. There were major steps in the legal framework for the power sector.
The whole picture of enactments in the sector will be dealt with in detail, later in this chapter.
The State Electricity Boards presented a commendable picture in the growing independent India. Till
now, the State Electricity Boards ran the show,

The Nature Of Love By Roger Hock
Love can be an amazing thing and it is often said that nothing compares to the bond between a mother
and her child, yet before a study called The nature of love which is discussed in the book Forty studies
that changed psychology: Explorations into the history psychological research, our society had a very
different understand about what caused this bond (Hock, 2013). In the book the author Roger Hock
explores many different influential studies but in the section called Discovering Love, he takes a
closer look into this study and discusses its importance (Hock, 2013). The influence of this study can
be found in many different types of literature such as contemporary articles like Building your own
family, which was published in Scientific American Mind (2014). This article implicitly provides
further understand of the The nature of love study results and shows active efforts to continue building
on the original theoretical ideas in order to change our views about human development (Jacobson,
2014). Even in modern text books like Psychology: Eighth Edition, can we find traces of the
importance of this study. Thus this study not only provided a tremendous contribution to the field of
Psychology but also changed society by altering its views on child rearing all together.
The original study The nature of love was focused on gaining more understanding of human
development (Hock, 2013). It involved a series of experiments done by Harry Harlow in 1958, in

The Army Body Composition Program
The Army Body Composition Program (ABCP) relies on a basic form of body circumference
measurements to determine a soldier s body fat composition. Many people believe this standard of
measuring is an unfair and inaccurate representation of their true body composition. There are several
options that could provide a more accurate measurement such as hydrostatic testing, skin fold method,
Bioelectric Impedance Analysis (BIA) only to name a few. There are many factors that influence the
decisions of leaders such as availability, cost, reliability and accuracy of the method in which method
they decide to use.
The Army s circumference measuring is the only way authorized to determine a soldier s body
composition. For males it is used by measuring the circumference of the neck and waist and for
females it is the waist, neck and hips. Based on soldiers height and age their body composition is
calculated and compared to a predetermined chart. Many service members including leaders disagree
with this method of determining body composition stating it is outdated and inaccurate; however,
there are many benefits to using this method as well. This method is beneficial being in the military
because it is cost effective, easy to administer, and the least time consuming of most of the other
options out there. This way of measuring can be considered inaccurate. It does not directly reflect the
body composition of the person being measured especially for individuals who participate in

`` Everything That Rises Must Converge By O Connor
Many people realize sometime in their lives that generations have very different ways of expressing
themselves. Rudimentary ideas get passed down throughout generations, but the ways in which people
interact change due to the different to social differences. In today s world people go about their day
using smartphones to text and call people. This was something that previous generations were not able
to do, thus creating a change in the ways that people express themselves to others. This idea is exactly
what Flannery O Connor was writing about throughout Everything that Rises Must Converge . O
Connor uses the theme of racism to emphasise the similarities and differences between Julian and his
mother s generations, but how they still are mentally very similar.
Julian and his mother have very similar personalities even though they think that they are the exact
opposite. Julian s mother thinks a lot about the way that people view her. She cares about the
appearance that she gives off so everyone can see how rich or great she is. She shows this off in one
way by the house that she lives in Since this had been a fashionable neighborhood forty years ago, his
mother persisted in thinking they did well to have an apartment in it (O Connor 273). This explains
that even though it was a nice neighborhood many years ago that Julian s mother still wants to live
there. Her mind is stuck in a world that she no longer lives in. Julian has a very similar situation that
happens with

Chicago Style Citation Quick Guide The Chicago Manual of Style presents two basic documentation
systems: (1) notes and bibliography and (2) author date. Choosing between the two often depends on
subject matter and the nature of sources cited, as each system is favored by different groups of
scholars. The notes and bibliography style is preferred by many in the humanities, including those in
literature, history, and the arts. This style presents bibliographic information in notes and, often, a
bibliography. It accommodates a variety of sources, including esoteric ones less appropriate to the
author date system. The author date system has long been used by those in the physical, natural, and
social sciences. In this system, sources are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

traditional methodand I think in more or less in all medium schools it is mainly used. When we visit

Background:
When the people of the western world wanted to know about the foreign languages like Greek and
Latin the grammar translation method appeared. Grammatical rule, memorization of vocabulary,
translation of the text was its focal point. In that time, the Latin language was generally based on
structure and their main objective was to understand the fundamentals of grammar and translation. It
was a hope that through the grammatical rule of the target language the student would know more
about the grammatical rules of their native language and then, it would help them to speak and write in
their native language better. So thinking about the objective of the language, the method came to be
known as classical method. At present, it is very well known as the Grammar Translation

The Outcomes Of The Adoption Of Children With Special Needs
The outcomes of the adoption of children with special needs, Rosenthal stated, that Barth and Berry
concluded, that adoption offers far more stability and benefits than long term foster care replacement.
Indeed, stability may be the greatest advantage of adoption. Risks increase with age. The Colorado
Department of Social Service from 1981 to 1984, the mean age of children whose adoption were
disrupted was 8.8 years, while that for children whose adoptions remained intact was 4.4 years.
Rosenthal says, Urban Systems Research estimated the national disruption rate for special needs

Even children adopted in infancy have been found to have moderately higher risks for having a
disruptive behavior disorder as adolescents (Keyes, Sharma, Elkins, Iacono and McGue, 2008).
Clinics specializing in the physical health needs of adopted children have been established in many
large cities, making adoption medicine a new specialty (Nicholson, 2002; Tuller, 2001). Analysis of
the 2003 National Survey of Children s Health found that adopted children are more likely than
biological children (i.e., children living with at least one biological parent) to have special health care
needs, moderate or severe health problems, developmental delay or physical impairment, learning
disability, and other mental health difficulties. Parents of adopted children were more than five times
more likely than parents of biological children to report ever being told that their child had a
developmental delay or physical impairment (16% versus 3%). Rosenthal states, that Bramlett, Radel,
and Blumberg in 2007 study says, nearly 20% of adopted children were reported by their parents to
have moderate to severe current health problems compared with 7% of biological children, and 37%
of adopted children had special health care needs as compared with 17% of biological

Improperly Storing Your Boat
Tips to Avoid Improperly Storing Your Boat Even though you may love being out on the water on
your boat, the winter will eventually come and you will need to put your boat into storage. In order to
avoid improperly storing your boat, you must be aware of the dangers of improperly storing your boat,
as well as how to store it correctly. The Dangers One thing to watch out for is the temperature of the
place you are storing your boat. Your boat is constructed with materials that can be sensitive to
extremely cold or hot temperatures. For example, an extremely cold storage climate could cause wood
to warp, and an extremely hot storage climate may compromise the boat s overall structure due to the
metals that can bend. The ideal temperature for

Langston Hughes Salvation Summary
Group Pressure Save me Please! The hearts cry of a young boy who is in desperate need. Referring to
Langston Hughes article Salvation . A lesson this article teaches about group pressure, even with good
intentions, getting what the group wants, does not always meet the individual needs. This group has
good intentions, Langston tells us about the group and the event happening, There was a big revival at
my Auntie Reed s church. Every night for weeks there had been much preaching, singing, praying,
and shouting, and some very hardened sinners had been brought to Christ, and the membership of the
church had grown by leaps and bounds (78 79).
The church members seemed to have good intentions by having this revival at the church. They even

They want everyone that is attending their revival to receive salvation from Jesus. They focus on the
children and wants all of them to be saved, having a special meeting just for children (79). The church
wants the children to be saved so much. The preacher preaches a wonderful sermon, shouts, cries,
scares children with dire pictures of hell, and then sang a song (79). In doing all of this, the preacher
succeeded in getting responses from some of the children for salvation. Although some is not enough,
for these members they want all of the children to be saved and start to put on the group pressure.
They do this by crowding the children gathering around, praying, singing and crying by them (79).
This method seems to be working the kids are getting up one by one till Langston is left alone (79).
Now the group is really stepping up the pressure, everyone is praying, singing and crying for Langston
s salvation. The preacher himself asked Auntie Reed for Langston s name so he can call him out
personally. Langston, why don t you come? Why don t you come and be saved? Oh, Lamb of God!

Why Uranium Is Removed From The Oceans By Diffusion Across...
Uranium is removed from the oceans by diffusion across the sediment water interface of organic rich
sediments, and this pathway is the largest single sink in the global budget of this element (Anderson et
al., 1989; Barnes and Cochran, 1990; Thomson et al., 1990; Lyons et al., 2002; Calvert et al., 2015).
Klinkhammer and Palmer (1991) remark that the dissolved uranium is drawn into suboxic sediments
along a concentration gradient established by the precipitation of an insoluble phase which forms
when U6+ is reduced to U4+. They also mention that this transformation occurs relatively late in the
diagenetic sequence, after the microbially mediated dissolution of manganese and iron oxides, and
may be induced by the onset of sulfate reduction. Metallo organics play an important role in the
diagenetic behavior of this element as some uranium is released into solution when labile organics are
consumed at the sediment water interface (Thomson et al., 1990).
In contrast, the diagenesis of authigenic Fe and Mn oxides exerts negligible influence on the uranium
diagenetic cycle (Barnes and Cochran, 1989). Barnes and Cochran (1989) state that the variations in
the uranium concentration of sediment with time are controlled directly by the uranium content of the
source material settling from the water column, and indirectly, by the organic content of this material
and the sedimentation rate. Klinkhammer and Palmer (1991) propose that since diffusion from
seawater influences dramatically

The Television Show Gossip Girl
Including lots of technical events does help to make television shows more esthetically pleasing, but
there is more to it than just a prettier picture. For this part of the experiment I watched the television
show Gossip Girl. The entire time I watch the episode I was constantly marking down technical
events. Technical events affect out perception of reality. It might sound strange, but by using technical
events the production companies are tricking our brains to believe that life happens in small moments.
As an observer we only witness snippets of the full picture, our reality becomes smaller, shrunk down
by the absence of real time. It tricks the viewer into focussing only on the pretty picture the director
and producers want us to see. We are unable to witness the fuller picture. In real life people think
about so many variables, but in television we only focus on one thing at a time. When one watches a
television show it could take them only forty five minutes to watch an episode, but days could go by
for the characters. This messes with their perception of time. We base our recognition of time off ever
changing elements, by finishing and completing different tasks. When one watches TV however the
viewer is unable to separate different moments because of technical events, which ruins our perception
of time. Watching television without sound or subtitles was a very unique experience. For the first
couple of minutes all I did was try and figure out what the character

The element mercury was known to ancient Egypt and China....
The element mercury was known to ancient Egypt and China. They used it thinking it would prolong
their life. It is one of the metal which is liquid in normal pressure and temperature. Which helps us to

It is also used in making switches and various other electronic apparatus. It is also used in make
thermometers and barometers because of its greatest density of 13.534 gm cm to power of 3, it does
not need a large tube to measure the pressure and thermometer. Like in a barometer if we use water
then we would need a tube of 10.4m to measure the atmospheric temperature but if we use mercury
we can measure the atmospheric temperature in a tube on only 0.76m. In a thermometers because of
its large range of the boiling and melting points, it helps us to measure a large range of temperature. It
also been used for making batteries. It can also be used to dental amalgams. Mercury is used to make
dental amalgam because when it is mixed with amalgam powder, the compound it creates is soft
enough to press on the tooth. it also becomes hard very fast which helps it to withstand the force of
biting. But it has raised question on whether it is safe and U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
evaluated the research and told it is safe for people above 6 years of age. **** One of the
disadvantage of mercury is that it is toxic in nature due to which it has to be handled with care. Due to
which it can result in death of people if they get mercury poisoning and if it is not treated in time. Due
to mercury we are now able to make thermometers and barometers which has helped the people a lot.
Due to it has helped us to find

  • 2. The Alaska Highway Essay In 1942, fifteen thousand American soldiers and civilian laborers poured into Alberta, British Columbia, and the Yukon to construct a highway stretching from mainland United States to Alaska. In doing so, they had to overcome obstacles of climate, terrain, and manpower (see Figure 1). The construction of the Alaska Highway serves an enlightening episode where Canadian and American interest in northern development and continental defense became intertwined. The continental projects in the North west, including the Alaska Highway, North West Staging route, and the CANOL pipeline marked a new period in Canadian American relations. There has been a tendency in the historiography to over emphasize the threat that the American presence on Canadian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Funding and labour for the highway were provided by the United States, and so Ottawa looked forward to acquiring, at American expense, an all weather road that would hold great commercial value for the region in the post war. Worries of sovereignty were not the priority at this point in time as the fate of the war still remained unsure in early 1942. In addition to the expected post war economic benefits, the American presence served the wartime strategic aims of both the American and Canadian Governments, as they urgently sought the continent against the possibility of encroachment from both the Western threat of Japan and the eastern threat of Germany. This was particularly true until 1943, as the fate as the war still uncertain. As the war began to strongly favour the Allies, the Canadian government was able to re address concerns such as northern development and increasing its involvement in north west defense projects. Until the end of the war, Canada maintained a policy to mitigate potential issues arising from the continued need for continental defense projects that would result in American presence within Canadian boundaries. The war years were an opportunity for the Canadian Government to prepare itself for a post war reality, where the Canadian North would remain a strategic location in a conflict between the Soviet Union and the United ... Chain of Custody Preservation of Evidence Chain of Custody amp; Preservation of Evidence Idris Rawls Westwood College It does not matter the reputation you have earned for your high integrity and honesty, you will always be open to allegations of civil or criminal liability. The first type of evidence and usually the most obvious is physical evidence. Evidence can be anything from tangible objects such as cartridge cases and firearms to latent fingerprints and DNA. Evidence collection or recovery step in crime scene processing is the methods, techniques, and procedures used in retrieving evidence. Patience and care are very important at the crime scene. One friend even helped clean the kitchen, wiping down the counters with a spray cleaner possibly wiping away evidence. Many hours passed before police blocked off the basement room. A pathologist did not examine the body until more than 18 hours after the crime took place (Bardsley, M., amp; Bellamy, P. n.d.). The type of evidence that was found in the JonBenet Ramsey case was both latent and visible. DNA traces were found on the child s body and clothing, and footprints were analyzed in the basement. In addition, a ransom note was found on the stairs by the mother Patricia Ramsey. Fibers from blankets, carpet, clothing, bedding, car interiors and other materials can be identified and traced by the forensic team. The different between the latent and visible evidence are as follows According to Saferstein, R. (2011), Latent evidence is evidence at a crime scene that cannot be seen with the eyes. Examples might be a blood stain that was bleached out, or semen stains that can t be seen without special lighting, or a fingerprint on an on even surface, such as a tree (pp. 400). Saferstein, R. (2011), also argues that visible evidence are made when an object touches a surface after the ridges have been in contact with a colored material such as blood, paint grease, or ink, (pp. 400, para. 1). I do not believe that there was a secure chain of custody due to the fact the crime scene had already been contaminated. However, once the evidence was collected the ... • 5. Word Accuracy And Word Frequency Essay This study is a conceptualized replication of the Howes and Solomon (1951) experiment investigating word accuracy and word frequency in short duration trials. It is hypothesized that words that appear more often in printed text (easier to access in the lexicon) will be more accurately identified rather than words that appear less commonly. A total of 83 participants in the study were presented with words taken from the Throndike Lorge database. The words were presented for one second with a six second rest in the middle. This was done sixty times and the results suggest a moderate strong relationship between word accuracy and frequency. Though there are multiple factors that may have influenced these results. Introduction Word recognition involves an individual s ability to identify words independently without requiring related words for contextual help. A widely examined topic in the field of cognitive psychology, it deals with understanding printed letters as a word which has been kept in the lexicon. The word frequency effect is important in the recognition of words. It suggests more common words in printed language are easier, faster and more accurate to distinguish than words that appear less frequently. Outlined in their journal article, Howes and Solomon utilized Thorndike Lorge s word count for word frequency and measured the threshold of recognition. They found correlation coefficients of .68 to .75 between word frequency and threshold or duration. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A review of existing literature on the subject matter will be done in view of providing an explanation on the subject. The focus will be on theoretical frameworks that explore the issue of labor force performance in relation to pay and incentives. The hypothesis guiding this investigation is that 1) better pay improves performance, 2) better pay reduces the rate of turnover, 3) that a good incentive and reward system improves worker s motivation and loyalty to the company , and 4) pay could take any form or be substituted for leisure, less work hours or rewards. The findings will be used to analyze various companies in Singapore, while at the same time showcasing the value of the concepts discussed and possible problems that could arise. • 8. Winter Descriptive Writing It was a flurry and cold winter day, the kind of day when every breath stings the lungs and every exhale chills the lips. Living in Iowa, I was used to the frigid winter, but this unsuspecting day would forever change Emily Kriz. My mother and I had just entered the frosted glass doors at our local Michaels after having the usual tedious chat about keeping your hands to yourself and looking with our eyes, not our hands. I acted as though I was listening, adding in subtle head nods as I watched each individual snowflake fall crisply onto the ground, as if each had a strict road map to a anticipated location. Upon entering, we saw a winter wonderland. The fragrance of frosted pine wafted through the nipping air that had snuck in from the outdoors and tingled my petite fingers and toes. With every blink of the eye there was something newfangled and wondrous to look at. It had seemed as though Michaels was decorated for a gala, with only the finest and most stunning decorations on display, but with every piece of pristine decor in is precise spot. We browsed the aisles, with each aisle as colorful and exciting as the rest. We were nearing the end of the isles when I saw it, a display of candles that drew my eyes in like no other. My mom had turned her cart down the aisle filled with all the eyeful winter floral pieces, and at this moment I knew it was my time to do what I had been told not to, I needed to reach out and smell one of those candles that had tunneled my vision. David Sedaris is a great writer who wrote about his family and himself when he was growing up. While most people usually don t like talking about the humiliating moments of their lives, he presents the reader with his own obsessions and the numerous interesting and funny events from the life of his family. Sedaris uses a lot of sarcasm in his book; therefore it is very appealing and interesting to read. Sedaris was able to see the irony in any situation. The death itself did not bother him as much as showing off in front of his roommate. Sedaris s father was very overprotective of his kids. • 11. Why Abortion Should Stop The Abortion Why Abortion Should stopped For everyone an abortion is defined as the removal of an embryo or fetus from the uterus from a female, in order to end a pregnancy (Webster, Merriam). Abortions are wrong because one cannot create life; therefore a person should not be able to terminate a life before it actually starts. Depending on the situation people may feel that abortions are justifiable. Due to a person being too young, or just simply unprepared. I feel that either way that it is murder. We wouldn t accept a serial killer roam the streets as if nothing happened. In this argument it is the same thing. (The book of exodus 20:1 7) clearly states thou shall not kill. You can t avoid that in any form or fashion (exodus 20:1 7). Every human being has a right to life even if they are not born, yet there are no rules to stop this crime. I feel that abortions should be illegal anywhere on this planet. I searched up some facts about how abortions can hurt you in The killing of an human was doing no wrong is a horrible act, even if that human being has yet to be born. Unborn babies are considered human or soon to be humans by the government and people who actually cares about humans. Hans Holbein had made a career for himself and had lived in London since 1532 and was appointed court painter to the English Monarch in 1536, the year of the royal wedding. the one tone background of the painting is a concession to the interests of the court portrait. holbein convinced the court that such portraits with a flatness to it gives them a formal character. in the piece, Jane Seymour s jewelry, her garment, and her slightly pale features are focussed in a even light and presented in every detail a very old fashioned technique that had superseded by full tone chiaroscuro not only in Italian paintings. however this is very same technique that creates the necessary distance form the viewer is what Holbein intended. title: portrait of the King Fernando the seventh by Artist:Francisco de Goya y Lucientes Medium: oil on wood panel Period: 1814 The eldest surviving son of Charles VI King of Spain, Ferdinand was born in the vast palace of El ... Pros And Cons Of The Njac Advocates for the government and several states have argued that the NJAC would improve judicial selection and the quality of the judiciary and that the NJAC does not violate the basic structure. In defending the NJAC, Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi argued that expanding the appointment process to include a more formal role for the law minister, along with two eminent persons, would help lead to a more diverse and representative judiciary that is more accountable to the people. Also, the government argued that a switch to the NJAC would improve the quality and merit of judicial appointments, going so far as to impugn the merit of specific appointments under the collegium. Furthermore, senior advocate K.K. Most importantly, some of the interpretive possibilities articulated here may have produced an appointments process that closely resembles the existing collegium system. Thus, the NJAC could become the collegium in disguise. If that would have happened, then, the Supreme Court would have successfully struck down the amendment without being transparent about doing so. • 14. Demoralization In The Awakening To demoralize someone is to dishearten or discourage them and cause them to lose hope. Kate Chopin uses words like depressed (56), hopeless (56) and despondency (p115) to describe Edna, the heroine, in The Awakening. Coupling this description with Edna taking her life at the end of the novel and Chopin s own inferred demoralization, due to the almost universal aversion to The Awakening, the natural conclusion is that it is a work of great personal demoralization , (Companion 5) as Michael Levenson states. Levenson suggests most modernist authors and artists paint a bleak picture of their time period because they are demoralized. Although the portrait Chopin paints of female oppression in 1899 is to some degree demoralizing, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mrs. Pontellier s soul is shaken, causing a seismic shift in her, but she is not the only one affected as all of the partygoers were moved by Mademoiselle Reisz s performance. This alludes to Kate Chopin s desire to inspire her audience in the same manner as she purposely chooses a piece of music by the renowned composer Frederic Chopin. She suggests that art is an important aspect of an awakening as it has the ability to touch the soul. In the next scene Mrs. Pontellier suddenly learns to swim and Chopin describes, A feeling of exultation overtook her, as if some power of significant import had been given her to control the working of her body and her soul. (p27). Mrs. Pontellier now fully awake realizes that she has control over body, she has autonomy, and Chopin emphasizes her individuality by referring to her as Edna. Her awakening is important because in 1899, women did not have autonomy; their main purpose was domesticity. The church and patriarchy reined over women who were the property of their husbands and considered inferior to men with no sexual desire. Chopin presents Mr. Pontellier as a perfect specimen of late nineteenth century patriarchy. Some women thrive in this culture as Chopin demonstrates through Mrs. Ratignolle. However, for many women, like Edna this world was suffocating. The natural reaction to this oppression is feminism, but Chopin does not preach feminism in her novel. ... Aristotle s Balance of Eudaimonia Aristotle s balance of Eudaimonia Aristotle, the son of Nicomachus(Aristotle), known as the philosopher, was born in 384 B.C.E, in a small city named Stagira in northern Greece. During his lifetime, he studied variety of subjects and brought knowledge to all aspects (Blackburn). He viewed that as a human, a subject who s determined goal is to reach virtue and Arête, is connected with nature and its balance (Golden Mean). Aristotle also viewed a good life as political questions. He analyzed that human s basic shape of desire and aim is formed at the age of six (Hare). According to Aristotle, a good life is maintaining the balance of virtue and vice, and Eudaimonia of the soul in that one would be satisfied with the accomplishments done (Bambic). Aristotle believed that everything has a function aiming for the good, and that politics are an important factor for functioning well. How do instruments automatically achieve a kind of irresistible cachet just because they ve clocked up a bit of mileage?Once upon a time a 1958 Fender Stratocaster was just a second hand guitar; now, it s a holy relic. Let s face it, the vintage instrument market has become VERY silly over the last 20 years or so, with investors all over the world hoovering up any old six string with a few dings, wrinkles and a six figure price tag... But what s the appeal? How do instruments automatically achieve a kind of irresistible cachet just because they ve clocked up a bit of mileage?Being a little on the vintage side myself, I can remember pressing my nose up against the shop windows of London s Tin Pan Alley during the early 1970s and lusting after Gibson Les Pauls. Back then, I wanted to be Jimmy Page and so I reasoned that I had to equip myself with the right tool for the job. Some of the guitars that set my eyes aglow back then were undoubtedly the Grail instruments of today s vintage market but in those days they would have probably cost around £275, including a case and a spare set of strings.Alas, I never bought a Les Paul back then, settling instead for a Gibson SG which I sold several years later when I caught a bad case of jazz and consequently renounced solid body guitars in favour of arch tops. What can I say? I was young and capricious...So when everything began going nuts during the 1990s, I kicked myself for lack of foresight, but, being a rational chap, ... The GI Bill gave the United States veterans education. It also provided VA hospitals with veteran benefits. The law also made a possible loan of billions of dollars to purchase homes for millions of veterans. The G.I Bill gave opportunity to pursue formal education which a lot of veterans did since education was pretty much paid for. In the short run, many colleges and universities were seriously jeopardized. In the late 1940 s veterans bought homes in many of the new suburbs for $8,000 with no down payment required. World War II had a great toll on the nation s economy. It hurt many Americans, and a lot of them had to leave their education to serve as soldiers and sailors. The war used many of the already shorted resources, and with a lot of the men who ran farms, bakeries, and meat providers being taken into war, this led to a shortage of cash flow and resources. During WWII Roosevelt talked over the matter with President George F. Zook and other leaders of the American Council of Education. He believed the federal government had a responsibility and an important role in helping returning veterans get an education. Several Bills branched off the GI Bill including a Vocational Rehabilitation Bill. This bill provided federal funds to retrain and rehabilitate veterans who had been disabled in the civilian defense industry. In a quote from history.com, In his speech at the signing of the bill, Roosevelt acknowledged the sacrifices of

The Wife Of Bath, By Geoffrey Chaucer The Wife of Bath, emphasizing The Prologue of the Wife of Bath s Tale and the The Prologue in Geoffrey Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, is an example of the Middle English concept that male authors reflect misogynistic ideals of society onto female characters. With the Wife of Bath, she is a fictional character, as told by Chaucer, going on a Pilgrimage, with constant ridicule for her sexuality and multiple marriages. Chaucer portrays her as a previously battered wife who uses her sexual promiscuity as a way of control. This subtle judgment alludes to the importance of her sexual habits and her compromised chastity, but also objectifies her as well. The narrator continues on by pointing out the fact that she had been married five times, an atypical habit for women during this time, which continues to oversexualize her character. Later in Canterbury Tales, during The Prologue of the Wife of Bath , she addresses the abnormal amount of marriages she has had. She recognizes that Jesus is said to frown upon more than one marriage, but she quickly backlashes those accusations and claims no word of what the number was to be/ then why not marry two or even eight? And why speak evil of this married state? ( The Wife of Bath s Prologue Chaucer 259). She also claims that she would gladly take a sixth husband, and, due to her interpretation of Bible, it is completely acceptable to marry as many men as she wants. At the end of his introduction to the wife of Bath, the narrator points out that she is adventurous and well traveled, an accomplishment unfamiliar to most women. The narrator simply states and she had thrice been to Jerusalem,/ seen many strange rivers and passed over them;/ she d been to Rome and also to Boulogne,/ St. James of Compostella and cologne,/ and she was skilled in wandering by the way ( TP Chaucer 15). Luigi Galvani observed moving of the legs of a dead frog when touched with a metal scalpel. This also was later found to have happened due to production of electricity by chemical process. Many people believe this standard of measuring is an unfair and inaccurate representation of their true body composition. There are several options that could provide a more accurate measurement such as hydrostatic testing, skin fold method, Bioelectric Impedance Analysis (BIA) only to name a few. There are many factors that influence the decisions of leaders such as availability, cost, reliability and accuracy of the method in which method they decide to use. The Army s circumference measuring is the only way authorized to determine a soldier s body composition. For males it is used by measuring the circumference of the neck and waist and for females it is the waist, neck and hips. Based on soldiers height and age their body composition is calculated and compared to a predetermined chart. Many service members including leaders disagree with this method of determining body composition stating it is outdated and inaccurate; however, there are many benefits to using this method as well. This method is beneficial being in the military because it is cost effective, easy to administer, and the least time consuming of most of the other options out there. In today s world people go about their day using smartphones to text and call people. This was something that previous generations were not able to do, thus creating a change in the ways that people express themselves to others. This idea is exactly what Flannery O Connor was writing about throughout Everything that Rises Must Converge . O Connor uses the theme of racism to emphasise the similarities and differences between Julian and his mother s generations, but how they still are mentally very similar. Julian and his mother have very similar personalities even though they think that they are the exact opposite. Julian s mother thinks a lot about the way that people view her. She cares about the appearance that she gives off so everyone can see how rich or great she is. She shows this off in one way by the house that she lives in Since this had been a fashionable neighborhood forty years ago, his mother persisted in thinking they did well to have an apartment in it (O Connor 273). • 34. Why Uranium Is Removed From The Oceans By Diffusion Across... Uranium is removed from the oceans by diffusion across the sediment water interface of organic rich sediments, and this pathway is the largest single sink in the global budget of this element (Anderson et al., 1989; Barnes and Cochran, 1990; Thomson et al., 1990; Lyons et al., 2002; Calvert et al., 2015). Klinkhammer and Palmer (1991) remark that the dissolved uranium is drawn into suboxic sediments along a concentration gradient established by the precipitation of an insoluble phase which forms when U6+ is reduced to U4+. They also mention that this transformation occurs relatively late in the diagenetic sequence, after the microbially mediated dissolution of manganese and iron oxides, and may be induced by the onset of sulfate reduction. Metallo organics play an important role in the diagenetic behavior of this element as some uranium is released into solution when labile organics are consumed at the sediment water interface (Thomson et al., 1990). In contrast, the diagenesis of authigenic Fe and Mn oxides exerts negligible influence on the uranium diagenetic cycle (Barnes and Cochran, 1989). Barnes and Cochran (1989) state that the variations in the uranium concentration of sediment with time are controlled directly by the uranium content of the source material settling from the water column, and indirectly, by the organic content of this material and the sedimentation rate. For this part of the experiment I watched the television show Gossip Girl. The entire time I watch the episode I was constantly marking down technical events. Technical events affect out perception of reality. It might sound strange, but by using technical events the production companies are tricking our brains to believe that life happens in small moments. As an observer we only witness snippets of the full picture, our reality becomes smaller, shrunk down by the absence of real time. It tricks the viewer into focussing only on the pretty picture the director and producers want us to see. We are unable to witness the fuller picture. In real life people think about so many variables, but in television we only focus on one thing at a time. When one watches a television show it could take them only forty five minutes to watch an episode, but days could go by for the characters. This messes with their perception of time. We base our recognition of time off ever changing elements, by finishing and completing different tasks. When one watches TV however the viewer is unable to separate different moments because of technical events, which ruins our perception of time. Watching television without sound or subtitles was a very unique experience. For the first couple of minutes all I did was try and figure out what the character ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
