Resistance To Social Influence
Today, societal norms are a significant factor of day to day life as people are expected to follow
them, since they will otherwise be seen as abnormal. However; sometimes, people decide to
deviate from these norms and choose not to conform to them. Usually, social pressure is present
and it effects an individual s decisions. Resistance to social influence refers to the ability of people
to withstand the social pressure to conform to the majority or to obey authority. Stanley Milgram
has conducted a research regarding obedience and social influence, in which he has discovered a
number of observations and interpretations. This essay will describe the two explanations of
resistance to social influence, and evaluate them. Social influence refers to a change in behaviour
that is caused by the influence of the other, whether intentional or not, from a result of how the
individual perceives themselves in relation to the group, society or individual who influenced
them. According to Milgram, there are three areas of social influence, which are conformity,
compliance and obedience. Conformity refers to changing one s own behaviour to match the
behaviour of others, this plays a major role in the sense of belonging and esteem. An instance of
this would be evident from Milgram s study. In 1963, Stanley Milgram, wanted to conduct a
research to determine the reasoning as to why Germans were willing to obey to Adolf Hitler s
commands and dictations. This is because these people chose

Persuasive Speech About Sleep
Wake up. Drown in knowledge for the next seven hours. Eat. Homework. Sleep. Repeat. Does
this sound like you? Wait, that s all of us! For twelve years, the seven hour day at school just
seems to get longer and longer every year. I know, graduation day is laying out at the beach
while we suffer learning about pythagorean theorem. As as much as we despise this thing called
school, there are steps to excel academically, mentally, and emotionally. I think we ve all cried at
least once over how stressful school can be. First of all, we all hear the lectures get enough sleep
to be productive the next day, by our teachers. They aren t lying to you. For instance, my close
friend has the idea that if he stays up the night before until 2:00 AM studying for his test the
same morning at 8:00 AM that he will have a better chance to score better than studying during
decent hours. Come to find out, he could hardly keep his eyes open during the two hour exam
even if he chugged a venti caramel macchiato from Starbucks. Even if you put the book under
your pillow at night, that won t work either to retain information. According to SleepFoundation,
the proper amount of sleep consists of 7 9 hours for the certain age group. Sleep is vital because
it rejuvenates our organs, especially our brain. Guess what my friend did after his test? He slept
for four hours straight. Although we are all guilty of procrastination, it cause stress for forcing our
brain to work increasingly faster and

Thanksgiving Reflection
It was around thanksgiving of 2014 and my family and I took a memorable trip to the redwood
national forest, and throughout this journey I learned some important lessons. We were
planning the trip up along the coast of California and Oregon to experience the Redwood
National State Park. I was kind of annoyed we were driving the whole entire time together in the
truck so my attitude wasn t the best on the start of the trip, my lesson learned is to make the best
out of the situation because journeys are worth remembering. We begin our journey leaving our
house later in the day because my dad always double checks the alarm is on and our house is
secure, In times of stress I go to my mom who is always there to support me. We are driving and
the closer we get, the more tired we become. We can see that the trees have been getting bigger
and the smell smells more like a wet garden. When we reached the sign that said Welcome to the
Redwood National Forest, the trees were massive! The trees were around 300 feet tall, for
comparison the trees in front of the KAOL High School are about 15 feet tall. Once we entered
the forest we felt like we were ants.
A few days and nights have passed, one night we couldn t find a hotel room because it was the day
before thanksgiving. We eventually found a hotel room and we stayed there for two nights because
the tv has netflix and the room had a full kitchen. For our thanksgiving dinner we got a small pre
made rotisserie turkey and premade

Comey Memo For Trump Analysis
The Article, How dangerous is Comey memo for Trump? discuses the trouble the President has
gotten himself into over the past few days. I believe that our government needs to take a step back
and figure themselves out along with briefing the president on what he can and cannot tell foreign
countries.
In the Article, How dangerous is Comey memo for Trump? it states the current status of President
Trumps legal problems over the past few weeks. It starts will explaining how the White House is
denying the allegations of the President trying to get the FBI to drop their investigation on him. It
also explains that Trump has had many issues within the last 24 hours one of those being him

second reason was, The Russian Factor, he explained that with Trumps current investigation with
being involved with Russia during the election the fact that he leaking the information to Russian
officials seems almost to validate the issues in his FBI investigation. The third reason, Skeptical

Elizabethan Theatre Essay
Elizabethan Theatre
In roughly built playhouses and cobblestone inn yards, an extraordinary development took place in
England in the 1500s. (Yancey, 8). At that time, an opportunity combined to produce literature
achievement never before witnessed in the history of drama and theater. The renaissance, helped
spark this movement by inspiring scientific and artistic creativity throughout the land. Models
began writing dramas that portrayed life in both realistic and imaginative ways. This created work
later captured the attention of the world that changed the English drama. The many aspects of
Elizabethan theater helped to shape the acting and theater world forever.

It cost a penny to attend the performance and two pennies for the wealthier seating.
Due to crowdedness, diseases passed rampantly through the streets of Europe, as well as in the
theaters. Small pox, scarlet fever, and tuberculosis were just one of the few of the diseases that
regularly killed thousands of people. (Yancey, 35). The theaters closed with every serious outbreak.
Which caused the players to make a choice to move with the thousand other citizens to continue
their career. Acting companies usually went on tour. Not only to escape the diseases but to earn
extra money.
Women s roles in the plays were acted by men or, more commonly by boys. (Bommarito, 267).
Boys were used for women s roles because of their small figures and higher pitched voices. The
boys began acting at the age of ten, learning the correct way to walk and talk on the stage. In
addition they were also taught the art of applying make up moving gracefully in the many layers of
clothing that the Elizabethan women wore at that time.
English women were considered weaker and less intelligent, therefore, their opinions in life was
limited. In judging behavior, the Elizabethans condemned the presence of women in some theaters.
Despite the mens disapproval, a significant number of them did attend public plays.
Becoming a good actor was not easy. Since there were no microphones during this era, actors had to

Alcohol As A Alcoholic Beverage
Alcoholic drinks play a crucial social role in most cultures. An alcoholic beverage is a drink which
contains a significant amount of the psychoactive drug ethanol which is informally called alcohol.
[Wikipedia] Most countries implement laws regulating alcoholic drinks production, sale and
consumption because of their potential for abuse which may cause physical dependence and
increase their risk of alcoholrelated harm. [1] [ Minimum Age Limits Worldwide . International
Center for Alcohol Policies. Retrieved 2009 09 20.] In Australian society, alcohol has many roles.
Many Australians take alcohol mostly for relaxation, enjoyment and for social reasons, and
generally they consume alcohol at levels that cause few adverse effects. However, a significant
proportion of Australians take alcohol at levels that cause adverse effects. In many countries,
Australia inclusive, disease, injury and a considerable burden of death is attributed to alcohol.
Families and the broader community are also affected by alcohol related harm. Some other reasons
for taking alcohol include to enhance creativity, to overcome inhibitions, boredom, habit. (2)
[www.nhmrc.gov.au/health topics/alcohol guidelines] The most common cause of drug related
deaths in the Australian teenage population has been found to be alcohol. Misuse of alcohol in this
age group has been linked to binge drinking, drink driving and unsafe sex. Booze is the common

Stereotypical Judgement Essay
Who are you? Who am I? We are different, but we get judged, every day, every hour, every
minute people judge you, on your appearance, on your style, on your attributes. Yet they don t
even know you. It is proven that in the first few moments of meeting someone, we form an
opinion of them. Our society s biggest downfall is that we define people on stereotypical
judgements. One of the clearest examples in today s society is Donald Trump. He claims to ban all
Muslims to enter the USA. That is a stereotypical judgmentthat he has towards Muslims. He
believes all Muslims are terrorist, as per CNN report Islamis the fastest growing religion in the
US; and according to their report, in the USA some top Doctors and Engineers believe in Islam.
So where does he get his claims from? Why does he create these stereotypical judgements against
them? Why can t he work along with them so that we can live in a better world?
We judge people by their race, we judge people by where they come from, we judge people by the
way they speak. Today, we say all Muslims are terrorist, well if that was the case, wouldn t all
Christians be in the KKK, if this was true we would probably be dead. There are about 2 billion
Muslims in the world, that s about 29% of the world s population; if they all were terrorists the
odds of our survival are slim. We judge a race on the acts of a few, what if not every Muslim we
saw was planning to kill us, what if they are everyday people like you and me. We have put

One of the many things people go to for fun while growing up is going to a zoo or an aquarium.
Whether it s with their family during the summer, or during the school year in elementary with
the entire class. It s a way to have a good time with friends and family and also a way to learn
more about certain species and their averments. In North American 140 Million people visit zoos
annually: that s more than baseball, basketball, football, and hockey combined. At a global scale
that 700 million people! However, there are still many people that believe that zoos and aquariums
are plain and simply unethical. This is not true because many zoos across the country have been

People will say that they don t treat them right in zoos, and that they don t have enough rooms to
roam around, but zookeepers and scientists give all the animals specific training, exercise and
food to meet their nutritional requirements. Zoos may actually more beneficial for some of the
animals because they don t have competition. Greco say in his article, In the wild, food resources
are temporally and spatially dispersed this means that it may be hard to find food hasn t already
been eating or that isn t too far away. Next, exercise plans have been implanted especially for
elephants to reduce pod dermatitis, a bone disease they are generally prone to and also elephants
tend to be obese. To prevent this they teach elephants to stretch and staff directed walking.
(Greco 3) Moreover, staff are required to give good hygiene to most animals in the zo to prevent
any diseases and funguses. This shows the amazing care zoos give the animals to give them a
healthy lifestyle. In conclusion, zoos and aquariums are important in many ways. One being fo the
education of students, two being the help they give animals that are endangered, and three is the
fact they give good care the animals so they will be in a good healthy condition. Although zoos
haven t always been as great as they now, they have change in positive way. So, perhaps people

Flattened Fauna by Roger M. Knutson
Book Review of Flattened Fauna
Flattened Fauna, the book all about road kill. How could one not be interested in learning more
about the flattened animals that litter our roads? I was certainly intrigued by the idea that the
study of these very dead animals actually exists. This book contains all sorts of information about
flattened fauna such as how to study it, where to study it, why flattened fauna exists, details about
the most popular and or dangerous fauna, and of course why it is studied in the first place. The
following paragraphs will give a summary of the book Flattened Fauna, what to expect of the
book, and how the book relates to furthering ones knowledge of Biology.
The author states that this book is supposed to encourage the appreciation and study of road fauna.
The author even mentions that a trip of one thousand miles presents the opportunity to see, identify,
and possibly enjoy four hundred to four thousand animals. The author encourages the reader to
think of the road as a habitat. Most animal habitats such as forests, lakes, marshes, and such have
been apart of the world for millions of years, and the new roads conveniently run through these
habitats. These new roads and highways are a relatively new part of these animals natural habitat,
but the animals still include these roads as a part of their traditional habitat. Animals have not had a
significant amount of time to adapt to this relatively new habitat. The road fauna is quite new

Mock Field Report
Yesterday I attended a Human Rights Tribunal mock scenario as a member of the audience. My
first impression of the mock scenario was a picture of how nervous I am going to be when it is
my turn to create a mock trial. I was impressed at the way it was set up and how well the girls did
at preparing and recreating a trial. I was able to observe and learn the procedures performed in a
trial, and how a paralegal is to behave themselves in court. I thought the students did a great job at
creating pertinent arguments to the case and held a good demeanour in order to get their points
across and effectively represent their clients. Suzie Luchi and Marie Dawn Boothe did a great job
at arguing their points, making sure the points made were valid in the court and making sure their
client was well represented.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

visual and written learners because before the mock trial can take place the student must write and
research their case. The visual learner is then able to act in a mock scenario, using their written

How Did Pennsylvania Coal Burn
In 1962, Centralia, Pennsylvania, found in the Appalachian valley with a population of
approximately 1100 people. A town put on the map for its richness in anthracite coal that burns
long and hot, though the mine had been closed for years but far from empty. Though the people of
the town knew nothing of what lurked below and went about their everyday lives which included
burning trash at the municipal dump like people did in that time. As the fire burned it creep into
the ground and was lit ablaze by coallong left behind, striking the beginning of the end for the
small, unsuspecting Pennsylvaniatown. The flared for about a month and when workers finally dug
back the burned earth they found it had burned much deeper than they thought. For 16 years the
state and federal government tried to put out the fire and spent 3.3 million dollars on the project

Coal is created by plants that died and fell to the ground, then this plant matter is waterlogged by
rainfall by things like sediment and other plant matter compressing it until over time it is
compressed into a carbon rich rock that burns easily known as coal. Like any fire, coal will only
burn if it has a constant supply of three things; fuel, heat, and oxygen. The best way to put out
any fire is to deprive it of one of those to things, the easiest being heat or oxygen, problem is coal
can burn in an environment with as little as 1% or 2% oxygen and the air that we breathe has
about 21% oxygen and pre existing cracks in rocks permit airflow straight to the fire.(Palus)
(Perkins) The second option is to smother the flames and deprive the fire of its heat source, but the

Case Study Of Demand For Fresh Potatoes
Demand for Fresh Potatoes:
Given the lack of reliable production and consumption data these are illustrative estimates only.
Future demand is derived using projected population statistics of 2002. The population in 2002
was 25 million and the population growth between 1991 2002 was 3.2 %, and by 2015 the
projected population growth as per an estimate would rise to 35 million. We also assume that potato
demand equals supply as there is no external potato trade between Uganda and other
Countries in the region. This would mean that any impact achieved through the adoption of new
Technologies, improved marketing or accelerated urbanisation would increase demand levels.
Assuming that with current growth of investments opportunities in Uganda and more FDI to flow

Raising The Percentage Of Junk Food In America
A problem with junk food in America is obesity. According to the LA County Department of
Public Health, 42% of children are obese or overweight. States should have an extra tax on junk
food or other unhealthy foods. Raising the tax could decrease the percentage of obesity by making
Americans pay more money. Another reason why is that junk foodis very unhealthy. Finally, taxing
the products could increase the amount of money the government gets for taxes. Obesity is a big
problem in America, and the percentage rate has gone up consistently over the past years. Mostly,
all states have a percentage of obesity over 30%. If the states raised the taxes, people might not buy
as much junk foodas before. The number could decrease. Many foods

The Birthmark By Judith Fetterley
Beauty can be defined as the quality present in a thing or person that gives intense pleasure or deep
satisfaction to the mind, whether arising from sensory manifestations, a meaningful design or
pattern, or something else. In The Birthmark it is a tragic and upsetting example of what beauty,
gender, and science represent. Georgiana was devoted to make her husband Alymer happy by
jeopardizing her life so he wouldn t suffer from considering her birthmark. Thus potential perfection
is not worth a life. Analyzing the genderaspect of the story can be explained by Judith Fetterley.
She wrote an article called Women Beware Science: The Birthmark . Alymer simply looks at his
wife as someone he can control and wants nothing for her but to be perfect. Fetterley says, It is
the demonstration of how to murder your wife and get away with it. This story brings a lot of
talk of sexual politics and the way women are sometimes looked at in society. The way some
society members describe women are supposed to honor the man and never have any power over
the man, in The Birthmark it is clear that Alymer looks at Georgiana as a women that is his own
property and should be perfect in every aspect according to him. The gender portion comes into
play when the question is asked, what if it was a man obsession with another man to be perfect or a
womanobsession for a man to be perfect? In The Birthmark Alymer did not wish for Aminadab his
servant to be perfect. It is all about gender

East Of Eden Fate Analysis
Everyone must make choices in their lifetime or trust that fate will work in their favor. In John
Steinbeck s East of Eden, choices and the debate of if there is free will over fate and predestination
is a major theme in the novel and motivates the characters actions.
The first time this debate of free will vs. fate is mentioned in when Adam, Samuel Hamilton, and
Lee are naming the twins. The men are searching in the bible when they come across Genesis 4:7,
where God is speaking to Cain about his offering, and the issue that arises is that because We are
all children of Cain, then we are destined to be sinful and do wrong. Lee especially is not content
with this as an answer. Lee eventually finds an answer he sees acceptable in the original Hebrew
writing, where the Hebrew word, timshel thou mayest that gives a choice, to man between good and
evil.
The possibility of a man making his own choices and mistakes is significant to Caleb Trask as
well because he knows he isn t nice or perfect in any way, and that his mother is an awful person.

Anecdotal Evidence On The Classroom Engagement
Anecdotal Evidence Milman (2012) notes, the flipped or inverted classroom, used in K 12 and
higher education, has been receiving attention. According to Milman (2012), advocates of the
strategy make numerous benefits known, for example increasing classroom engagement. Milman
(2012) notes there are both advantages (it seems to be a good fit to teach procedural knowledge)
and disadvantages (students may not watch the videos and or it may not be the best way to learn
the concept). Additionally Milman (2012) notes, no empirical research exists to substantiate its use
(p. 2); however, many instructors support its use as a teaching strategy. According to Hamdan,
McKnight, McKnight, and Arfstrom, (2013) both quantitative and qualitative research is limited;
however, there is research that supports the model and the instruction of strategies that engage
students in learning. Hamdan et al (2013) state Flipped Learning has been mainly a grassroots
movement (p. 9), although more administrators and parents are researching this teaching method.
Speak Up s annual online survey (Fall of 2012) contained questions specific to the Flipped
Learning method, 6% of respondents indicated they were using some form of video enhancement
and 18% of teachers indicated interest in trying the method (Hamdan, McKnight, McKnight,

Poison Called Bacillus Thuringitesis ( Bt ) Toxin
poison called Bacillus Thuringitesis (BT) toxin in every cell and every bite of it. Although the

problems in animals fed with GMO food. In both, the inflammation in the GI tract increased

grains modified food was introduced in 1990 to feed farm animals and increase the productivity and
resistance to diseases supposedly. In contrast, an increased of the incidence of ileitis on animals
increased proportionally with the introduction of these products. This thesis was corroborated when
the affected animals switched to non GMOs nutrition and all signs and symptoms disappeared,

Only 30 years before Olympiapark was built Germany hosted the Olympics under Nazi control and
the buildings were strong and almost harsh portraying the Nazi people as a superior and
dominating group of people. His idea was that the Park was to be a total contrast to the previous
bombastic architecture of the 1936 Nazi Olympics, with modern buildings helping to create an
atmosphere of egalitarianism and freedom (Childs 2010). I agree with both commentaries on the
Olympiapark. These buildings were not only beautiful in design but had a purpose and came to
bring the German people up from a devastating war and reputation. I myself have family in
Germany and this is one piece of architecture that is easily recognized by most Germans. It not only
revolutionized architecture in Germany but revitalized the people of Germany.
Part 4: Why This Building Appeals to Me I chose this building for multiple reasons, the most
important being I really appreciate GГјnter Behnisch s work. His buildings, my favorite being the
Bundehaus in Bonn, are simple but very symbolic. To him, a building is more than just material
and a blue print. Olympiapark was a futuristic building that was built on the grounds where only
years before, lay the infrastructure that was destroyed during World War II. Olympiapark was built
to represent the German people as free thinking and liberated from the axial and rigid structure of

Composed Upon Westminster Bridge By William Wordsworth And...
The two poems Composed upon Westminster Bridge by William Wordsworth and London by
William Blake s both show sharp contrasting views about the city of London. Wordsworth sees the
beauty in London whilst Blake only sees the ugliness. It is through these different perspectives of
London that both poets present their ideas of nature, darkness and suffering.
In London , Blake portrays a gloomy perspective of London, whereas in Composed upon
Westminster Bridge Wordsworth s tone is bright and buoyant leading the readers to paint an
optimistic picture of London. Blake chooses to describe London s midnight streets in order to
reinforce the theme of London s darkness and represents a city full of misery whilst Wordsworth,

The fact that Marriage hearse is in a neat rhyming structure makes the words drum into the readers
head more making it easier to remember and to paint a mental picture in the readers mind.
Both Blake and Wordsworth use similar literary devices of first person, tone and imagery to
describe their thoughts about London, however these techniques have a different effect in each
poem. Blake uses dark imagery to suggest poverty, bloodshed, disease and death in order to
convince the reader of the melancholy and morbidity of the city whilst Wordsworth uses
imagery to portray a charming and entrancing London, full of splendour, tranquillity and
serenity. Wordsworth also uses imagery to provide the reader with the idea that London is a
quiet and peaceful city. Wordsworth uses simile to describe the city s beauty, this is evident in
the line This city now doth, like a garment, wear the beauty of the morning; silent, bare . His use
of simile in this line suggests that the city is clothed in beauty however it is a beauty that is
removed when people wake as suggested by the use of the word garment . Blake also uses first
person in London to increase the immediacy of his tone and to narrate the things he observes as he
walks through the streets of London. In the first stanza, it opens near the River Thames where he
observes that everything he sees is chartered . the use of the word

Criminal Mind Vs. The Criminal Brain
Do criminal minds differ from how average people think and act? According to neuroscience;
criminal brains, when scanned show that they differ in how it looks and works. The brain of a
criminal suffer usually from depression and stress which shows in the brain when cat scanned. An
average person s brain differs because they have less stress and will rarely suffer from depression
unlike a criminals brain. Criminals usually suffer from depression because of the guilt or regrets
that come from committing a crime. The brain of a criminal is different than the brain of an average
person because an average person has a healthy living environment unlike criminals with many

Native Americans During The 20th Century
Throughout the history of America the thought of assimilation has been fought for and against.
Many people, such as the Native Americans, were forcibly stripped of their culture and
Americanized. Others, such as the German Americans, willingly assimilated in political views but
tried to hold onto their culture. All of these situations lead to hatred from white Americans at some
point throughout our history. The Native Americans during the westward expansion, German
Americans during WWI, and Japanese immigrants during WWII. Even though some of these people
had already assimilated, the fear that remained constant was the belief that people of different races
and ethnicities were savages. That other cultures were an affront and could not... Show more content

His belief was that if they accept God and the rules of a civilized community they would become
useful members of American life. Pratt spoke to reformers of the time about the importance of
citizenizing Native Americans, he believed they were savages but not a lost cause. Pratt talked
in detail about the previous misguided attempts to change the Indians. He said that there is no
way for an Indian to understand civilized life if they are still living in a savage land (Pratt, 39)
and that Native Americans would accept the schooling and give up their savage lifestyle and
false gods. He talks about how to integrate the Native Americans, but not how to leave their land
alone. Chief Joseph did not seem to want to give up his way of life and only wanted his tribe s
small portion of land. For someone to make real change they must want to change themselves.
What Pratt is proposing to do instead is force the Native Americans to assimilate. Pratt points out
that you can t make a German American unless he is in America where he could learn and accept
the customs of America (Pratt, 38). This takes away the German s choice to come to America or
not, and the ones who did assimilate still tried to hold onto parts of their culture until WWI. In the
same way, what Pratt is proposing takes away the

The Death Of A Loved One
Loss is a process that everyone must experience in their life. The death of a loved one is an
incredibly difficult loss to overcome. The death of a loved one could happen anytime in a person s
life and never becomes easy to cope with. Although everyone must confront this reality, not all cope
with their griefin the same manner. One person s grieving process could differ to another s with
differing variables, such as: length of process, details of loss, manifestations, and severity of
grief. People s grieving processes may slightly differ from one another, but as long as an
individual is able to work through it, then they will eventually be able to eventually conquer
their grief. The majority of individuals have the ability to overcome the grief from the loss of a
loved one, but there is a minority that have complications. It is important to understand how
individuals were able to work through their grief and why others were not able to reconcile the
loss of their loved one. Losing a loved one is extremely painful, and pain that one incurs after the
loss of a loved one will never disappear, as the individual must learn to live with the pain. This
literature review of grief will encompass the assessment of bereavement, grief processes, therapies
designed toward bereavement, and the differences in diverse populations. The summarization of
this information should lead to a broad understanding of grief after the loss of a loved. The paper

Religion and Culture play an important role in influencing consumer behaviour in relation to food

Human beings are not born with a set of behaviour, they have to learn it. What they learn is dictated
by the culture into which they are born or within which they grow up J Bareham (1995)
Culture makes us similar to some people but different to the vast majority. It is learnt as a person

There are many similarities but yet many differences across all cultures and religions, for example
both Jews and Muslims must not eat Pork or consume Blood, but in contrast a Muslim may eat
shell fish whereas a Jew cannot. Another contrast can be seen in the Hindu religion where orthodox
followers are forbidden to consume any meat at all.
Having well considered the origin of flesh foods, and the cruelty of fettering and slaying corporeal
beings, let man entirely abstain from eating flesh. The Manusmrti (5.49)
In the Hindu religion a strict Caste system is followed and dictates who a person can eat with,
who prepares a persons food, what sort of food is prepared for someone and who food can be
accepted from. However for Hindu followers living in a western society it is not always possible to
adhere to. For example pre packed food or food from a canteen/restaurant would not be able to be
purchased as it might have been prepared by someone of a lower caste. This is a good example of
religion has to adapt to allow for the culture one lives in relation to food intake.
In China the staple diet remained relatively unchanged until as

Examples Of Infidelity In The Great Gatsby

many of his characters.
Prior to Gatsby, the reader meets George, a hardworking, faithful man. Throughout the novel,
this description does not waver, until he comes to the realization that his wife is cheating on
him. At this point he proceeds to reveal a possessive and manipulative personality, locking his
wife in the house and planning to move away with her, (Adamson). His immediate actions are
somewhat understandable. Becoming jealous and possessive is a natural reaction to a spouse
being unfaithful. I told her she might fool me but she couldn t fool God. I took her to the
window with effort he got up and walked to the rear window and leaned with his face pressed

The Pedestrian By Ray Bradbury Analysis
Society provides a constant pressure to be a certain cookie cutter definition that only includes a
single shape in the whole box. Stepping out of the desired image is seen as wrong as the balance
and harmony society tries to maintain is unstable. In The Pedestrian written by Ray Bradbury
emphasizes the idea of a collective group pushing a single individualinto conforming to their
expectations as the main character Leonard Mead demonstrates this struggle. Leonard Mead tries to
conform to society through the symbolic change of shoes. Moreover, by not fulfilling society s
complete regulations Leonard is soon isolated and pushed away from the community which limited
Leonards mental self as he was alway alone. The Pedestrianreflects on the significant principle to
pursue your goals and desires as it influences on an individual s eccentricity that makes people
diverse even if it does not follow society s regulations. Furthermore, Mr. Leonard Mead struggles
with being different and his personal desires are viewed as abnormal since society fears the
unknown consequently abusing the individual for being different. In addition, methods that further
enhances the barrier Ray Bradbury set between Leonard Mead versus the rest of society is the
motif of light versus dark and Ray Bradbury s short story illustrates conflicts between pursuing a
personal desire and choosing to conform influences a persons individuality as a result of society s
regulations.

More friction could be seen between the West and China with Amherst s reluctance in conforming
the kowtow ritual. Emperor Jaiqing viewed such act as an insult to the Middle Kingdom due to
British pride and arrogance, and added that no more attempts need be made to send mission to
Beijing. The Chinese emperor was further humiliated by Napier s breaking of five important
regulations: did not apply for permission to go to Guangzhou, had no customs permit to reside in
the Guangzhou factory, sent his communication to the viceroy not as humble petition from an
inferior to a superior but as a letter to an equal, the letter was in Chinese not in English, and he tried

It was a failure for the Qing in the long term for it aroused Western grievances in the Chinese

The failure for the Chinese government to respond effectively was because of its construct that

Cultural Tension In Rocky IV And Office Space
Throughout history, Americans have dealt with cultural and social tensions in a number of ways.
For several decades, the nation was manipulated by fear and paranoia as the shadow of Soviet
influence continued to loom large in everyone s life. Rocky IV (1985) is an American sports film
written by, directed, and starring Sylvester Stallone. Rocky IV tells the story of world champion
American boxer Rocky Balboa(Stallone) seeking to avenge the death of a friend and defend his
country s honor by daring to travel to the Soviet Union and fight their best athlete on enemy soil.
Director Mike Judge s 1999 comedy filmOffice Space depicts a different kind of enemy in modern
America, as it satirizes the daily grind of a typical software company and its disgruntled employees
in the 1990s. By incorporating real world elements of cultural tension, immersing the viewer into an
all too familiar environment, and mirroring the mentality of society during their respective times,
Rocky IV and Office Space effectively inspire and educate each viewer in their own unique ways....

The Network utilizes TV for two purposes, first, distracting the public from their surroundings
and second, misleading people to believe false information. Another reason why the Network
installed Free Vees in the lower classes areas is because people are dying off due to air pollution
caused by atomic plants. The Network does not want to do address this problem, in fact, they
couldn t care less about polluting the air and killing the bottom population. What they did is

The Reality Of Television Programs
Today s television programs are very different from the television programs that were shown over
fifty years ago. The shows in the past portrayed a modest conservative family. These families
consist of a hardworking man and a stay at home woman, married raising their own biological
children. As the years went by, television has started to portray a more liberal definition of what a
familymeans in today s world. Because of today s TV shows, there are different ideas about what a
family should look like.
Families on TV are not always a married couple containing one man and one woman raising their
own children. We now have many shows that support gay rights when it comes to marriageand
being parents. The hit comedy Modern Family has the funny loveable characters of Mitchell and
Cameron. They adopted a baby girl from Vietnam. The series also shows the wedding between
the two men, as well as the comical outcomes when they try to raise their daughter the best way
possible. As Greg Graffin wrote in his article Anarchy in the Tenth Grade It is also a shining
example of how easy it is to follow the party line and champion a bandwagon mentality which
only motivates me to keep fighting for originality. (3) This is seen on the show The Fosters , a
girl named Callie is placed in a foster home with a lesbian couple and their other adopted children.

Parent s Role Common Sense Media conducted a study in 2009 and concluded that nationally
parents tend to underestimate the activity use children have on social networking sites (Holladay,

Lenin s Death Of Tsar Of Russia
Born in 1870, Vladimir Illych Ulyanov, better known as Lenin was born to a well off middle
class family. Lenin was said to be a very gifted student but extremely bossy. In 1887, Lenin s
elder brother Alexander was arrested for plotting to kill the tsar of Russia which lead to his
hanging. The rest of the society refused to have anything to do with Lenin s family as
Alexander had brought great shame on the town. This was during the peak of Russia s Imperial
period, so citizens treated the tsar as if he were a God. It is claimed that when Lenin heard about
the execution, he said I ll make them pay for this. I swear I will. Many years later, Lenin s wife
said that it was this event that turned Lenin into a revolutionary with a desire to rid... Show more

He believed that the rich should be helping the poor. This was the root of his belief that any one
man making a profit was bad for society; to him production was meant for survival. Lenin says
everybody in society is equal and should have equal rights. So he believed that there must be a
strong central government which truly represents its people. How would Lenin bring about such a
change? He followed Marx s teachings.
In the second chapter of the communist manifesto headed Proletarians and Communists , Marx and
Engels mention the idea of a political vanguard party that must be formed with the task of leading
the proletariat in revolution. This was exactly what Vladimir Lenin did; he started a party, the
Bolsheviks, which played the role of the socialist vanguard. The Bolsheviks would eventually
overthrow the Tsar and promote the working class. The change in power from the bourgeoisie to
the proletariat allows the full development of socialism.
Lenin and Marx had the same take on the definition of socialism. They both believed that socialism
is the step between capitalism and communism. Yet they had differing approaches towards this.
Marx believed that there would be a capitalistic state in place before revolution forces it into
socialism. This is preceded by a quick and easy jump into the true communism. In Lenin s Russia
they had just broken out of feudalism and the economy was in unrest. So Lenin thought in Russia

The Political Career of Daniel Webster Essay
The Political Career of Daniel Webster
Daniel Webster contributed a large potion of the Civil War. To begin, he was born in Salisbury,
New Hampshire on January 18, 1782. His parents were farmers so many people didn t know what
to expect of him. Even though his parents were farmers, he still graduated from Dartmouth College
in 1801. After he learned to be a lawyer, Daniel Webster opened a legal practice in
Portsmouth, New Hampshire in 1807.
Webster quickly became an experienced and very good lawyer and a
Federalist party leader. In 1812, Webster was elected to the U.S. House of
Representatives because of his opposition to the War of 1812, which had crippled New England s
shipping trade. After two more terms in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Replying to South Carolina s Robert
Hayne in a Senate debate in 1830, Webster triumphantly defended the Union states by a very
powerful but short speech. He said, Liberty and Union, now and forever, one and inseparable,
made him a favorite and made him well known among many people worldwide.
Webster and President Andrew Jackson joined forces in 1833 to try to change South Carolina s
attempt to nullify the tariff, but Webster and the
Whigs battled him on other issues including his attack on the National Bank. Webster ran for the
presidency in the election of 1836 as one of the three
Whig candidates, but he mostly only Massachusetts voted for him so he lost badly because no
one else voted for him. For the rest of his career he tried very hard to get to the presidency and ran
in many elections hoping to get his shot at the office, but it never happened and he failed every
time. In 1841, Daniel Webstercame close to his idea of President but was only named secretary.
President William Henry Harrison appointed him to this position. When he got killed in April 1841,
John Tyler was brought to the presidency. In September 1841, all the Whigs resigned from the
cabinet except Webster. He remained to settle an argument with Great Britain having to do with the
Maine Canada boundary and he wanted to finish the
Webster Ashburn Treaty, which he finally did in 1842. The Whigs finally pressured Webster

Comparing To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell and Sonnet 138 by William Shakespeare
I am comparing To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell (1640) and Sonnet 138 by William
Shakespeare (1590). The similarities between both poems are that they both use a certain amount
of syllables throughout each poem. To His Coy Mistress uses 8 syllables per line, and Sonnet 138
uses 10 syllables per line. Another obvious similarity is that they both end with a couplet. They
both also tell a story. The differences in the poems are that To His Coy Mistress is arguing why
they should get on with life, and Carpe diem whereas Sonnet 138 is telling us about how he doesn t

Charlie Ravioli Essay
Alvin Huynh
Professor Cantor
English 100
13 September 2012
Through Another Pair of Eyes The perception of life through someone else s eyes can alter one s
appreciation toward that particular lifestyle. Culture is perceived differently depending on the
type of environment in which we grow accustomed to. It can also range from the type of
location in which we live in. For instance, someone living in a different state would have a
different perception of the way we do things compared to their ways. In the essay Bumping into
Mr. Ravioli, by Adam Gopnik, the view on life is seen differently when viewed in Gopnik s
perception. However, this perception of life changes when viewed in a different point of view.

Gopnik learns about the busy lifestyle of Charlie Ravioli and begins to understand more of how a
New Yorker lives. Gopnik also realizes that the environment contributes to the personality of Olivia
s imaginary friend. Gopnik states Why is busyness the stuff our children make their invisible
friends from, as country children make theirs from light and sand? (Gopnik 156). According to
Gopnik, children base their imaginary friends from the type of environment they live in. For
example, since Olivia lives in New York, Her imaginary friend, Charlie Ravioli, has the
personality of a busy person living in New York. However, a child living on the countryside
would create an imaginary that has a personality based off that environment. These two quotes
exhibit the idea of different lifestyles based off different environments. Gopnik beings to
understand the busy lifestyle of people in New York and understands why Charlie Ravioli never
has time to play with Olivia. He learns to appreciate this type of lifestyle and will eventually grow
accustomed to it especially living in such a busy city. Gopnik also learns to understand more about
his lifestyle and that in order to adjust to the busy lifestyle, he has to get involved with the routine.
Furthermore, Gopnik perception of life allowed him to learn about the advances of technology and
communications that has evolved overtime. Gopnik never

The Nightmare Before Christmas At The El Capitan Theatre
When I heard we were going to the The Nightmare Before Christmas at the El Capitan Theatre, I
was ecstatic. This was one of my favorite childhood movies and I had not seen it in maybe 10
years. The night started with us boarding the coach bus which was playing the movie Kidnap
starring Halle Berry. This was most of us on the bus seeing the movie for the first time so we
were very into it. Since we are a bunch of film/TV students we easily all became instant critics of
the film. Not Ms. Halle, Ms. Halle is amazing as always. It was the writing and the scenarios that
she was placed in that didn t seem plausible. This made the ride over very entertaining, a bunch
of students reacting and laughing to situations that are dire in the movie. We were very invested.
Once we arrived at the theater, I was taken a back from how visually loud it was. All the lights and
colors, it was so Hollywood. I loved it.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Before the show started there was a raffle for some cool prizes and an announcement that there

m not going to lie; I was a little scared because I wasn t quite sure what that meant. Nevertheless,
the movies started and the first sign of being in the movies were the jack o lanterns that were
projected onto the theater walls. The movie was as every bit enjoyable as when I used to watch
with my family as a child. The surprises the theater had instore like the wind blowing and ultimately

  • 2. Resistance To Social Influence Today, societal norms are a significant factor of day to day life as people are expected to follow them, since they will otherwise be seen as abnormal. However; sometimes, people decide to deviate from these norms and choose not to conform to them. Usually, social pressure is present and it effects an individual s decisions. Resistance to social influence refers to the ability of people to withstand the social pressure to conform to the majority or to obey authority. Stanley Milgram has conducted a research regarding obedience and social influence, in which he has discovered a number of observations and interpretations. This essay will describe the two explanations of resistance to social influence, and evaluate them. Social influence refers to a change in behaviour that is caused by the influence of the other, whether intentional or not, from a result of how the individual perceives themselves in relation to the group, society or individual who influenced them. According to Milgram, there are three areas of social influence, which are conformity, compliance and obedience. Conformity refers to changing one s own behaviour to match the behaviour of others, this plays a major role in the sense of belonging and esteem. An instance of this would be evident from Milgram s study. In 1963, Stanley Milgram, wanted to conduct a research to determine the reasoning as to why Germans were willing to obey to Adolf Hitler s commands and dictations. This is because these people chose ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Persuasive Speech About Sleep Wake up. Drown in knowledge for the next seven hours. Eat. Homework. Sleep. Repeat. Does this sound like you? Wait, that s all of us! For twelve years, the seven hour day at school just seems to get longer and longer every year. I know, graduation day is laying out at the beach while we suffer learning about pythagorean theorem. As as much as we despise this thing called school, there are steps to excel academically, mentally, and emotionally. I think we ve all cried at least once over how stressful school can be. First of all, we all hear the lectures get enough sleep to be productive the next day, by our teachers. They aren t lying to you. For instance, my close friend has the idea that if he stays up the night before until 2:00 AM studying for his test the same morning at 8:00 AM that he will have a better chance to score better than studying during decent hours. Come to find out, he could hardly keep his eyes open during the two hour exam even if he chugged a venti caramel macchiato from Starbucks. Even if you put the book under your pillow at night, that won t work either to retain information. According to SleepFoundation, the proper amount of sleep consists of 7 9 hours for the certain age group. Sleep is vital because it rejuvenates our organs, especially our brain. Guess what my friend did after his test? He slept for four hours straight. Although we are all guilty of procrastination, it cause stress for forcing our brain to work increasingly faster and ... • 4. Thanksgiving Reflection It was around thanksgiving of 2014 and my family and I took a memorable trip to the redwood national forest, and throughout this journey I learned some important lessons. We were planning the trip up along the coast of California and Oregon to experience the Redwood National State Park. I was kind of annoyed we were driving the whole entire time together in the truck so my attitude wasn t the best on the start of the trip, my lesson learned is to make the best out of the situation because journeys are worth remembering. We begin our journey leaving our house later in the day because my dad always double checks the alarm is on and our house is secure, In times of stress I go to my mom who is always there to support me. We are driving and the closer we get, the more tired we become. We can see that the trees have been getting bigger and the smell smells more like a wet garden. When we reached the sign that said Welcome to the Redwood National Forest, the trees were massive! The trees were around 300 feet tall, for comparison the trees in front of the KAOL High School are about 15 feet tall. Once we entered the forest we felt like we were ants. A few days and nights have passed, one night we couldn t find a hotel room because it was the day before thanksgiving. We eventually found a hotel room and we stayed there for two nights because the tv has netflix and the room had a full kitchen. For our thanksgiving dinner we got a small pre made rotisserie turkey and premade ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We are different, but we get judged, every day, every hour, every minute people judge you, on your appearance, on your style, on your attributes. Yet they don t even know you. It is proven that in the first few moments of meeting someone, we form an opinion of them. Our society s biggest downfall is that we define people on stereotypical judgements. One of the clearest examples in today s society is Donald Trump. He claims to ban all Muslims to enter the USA. That is a stereotypical judgmentthat he has towards Muslims. He believes all Muslims are terrorist, as per CNN report Islamis the fastest growing religion in the US; and according to their report, in the USA some top Doctors and Engineers believe in Islam. So where does he get his claims from? Why does he create these stereotypical judgements against them? Why can t he work along with them so that we can live in a better world? We judge people by their race, we judge people by where they come from, we judge people by the way they speak. Today, we say all Muslims are terrorist, well if that was the case, wouldn t all Christians be in the KKK, if this was true we would probably be dead. There are about 2 billion Muslims in the world, that s about 29% of the world s population; if they all were terrorists the odds of our survival are slim. The Birthmark By Judith Fetterley Beauty can be defined as the quality present in a thing or person that gives intense pleasure or deep satisfaction to the mind, whether arising from sensory manifestations, a meaningful design or pattern, or something else. In The Birthmark it is a tragic and upsetting example of what beauty, gender, and science represent. Georgiana was devoted to make her husband Alymer happy by jeopardizing her life so he wouldn t suffer from considering her birthmark. Thus potential perfection is not worth a life. Analyzing the genderaspect of the story can be explained by Judith Fetterley. She wrote an article called Women Beware Science: The Birthmark . Alymer simply looks at his wife as someone he can control and wants nothing for her but to be perfect. Fetterley says, It is the demonstration of how to murder your wife and get away with it. This story brings a lot of talk of sexual politics and the way women are sometimes looked at in society. The way some society members describe women are supposed to honor the man and never have any power over the man, in The Birthmark it is clear that Alymer looks at Georgiana as a women that is his own property and should be perfect in every aspect according to him. The gender portion comes into play when the question is asked, what if it was a man obsession with another man to be perfect or a womanobsession for a man to be perfect? In John Steinbeck s East of Eden, choices and the debate of if there is free will over fate and predestination is a major theme in the novel and motivates the characters actions. The first time this debate of free will vs. fate is mentioned in when Adam, Samuel Hamilton, and Lee are naming the twins. Another contrast can be seen in the Hindu religion where orthodox followers are forbidden to consume any meat at all. Having well considered the origin of flesh foods, and the cruelty of fettering and slaying corporeal beings, let man entirely abstain from eating flesh. The Manusmrti (5.49) In the Hindu religion a strict Caste system is followed and dictates who a person can eat with, who prepares a persons food, what sort of food is prepared for someone and who food can be accepted from. However for Hindu followers living in a western society it is not always possible to adhere to. For example pre packed food or food from a canteen/restaurant would not be able to be purchased as it might have been prepared by someone of a lower caste. For instance, someone living in a different state would have a different perception of the way we do things compared to their ways. In the essay Bumping into Mr. Ravioli, by Adam Gopnik, the view on life is seen differently when viewed in Gopnik s perception. However, this perception of life changes when viewed in a different point of view. Gopnik s perception of life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gopnik learns about the busy lifestyle of Charlie Ravioli and begins to understand more of how a New Yorker lives. Gopnik also realizes that the environment contributes to the personality of Olivia s imaginary friend. This was one of my favorite childhood movies and I had not seen it in maybe 10 years. The night started with us boarding the coach bus which was playing the movie Kidnap starring Halle Berry. This was most of us on the bus seeing the movie for the first time so we were very into it. Since we are a bunch of film/TV students we easily all became instant critics of the film. This made the ride over very entertaining, a bunch of students reacting and laughing to situations that are dire in the movie. We were very invested. Once we arrived at the theater, I was taken a back from how visually loud it was. All the lights and colors, it was so Hollywood. I loved it.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I was so excited. It may be hard to believe but, this was my first time seeing a movie in 3D. Nevertheless, the movies started and the first sign of being in the movies were the jack o lanterns that were projected onto the theater walls. The movie was as every bit enjoyable as when I used to watch with my family as a child. The surprises the theater had instore like the wind blowing and ultimately the snow made the experience that much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
