Cystic Fibrosis
Can viruses used as vectors in the process of gene therapy be an effective treatment for Cystic
Fibrosis? Firstly, Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic and recessive disease that mostly affects the lungs and
pancreas. This leads to phlegm accumulation, salty sweat, male infertility, shortness of breath and
increased risk of infection, which all contribute to premature death (CFF, 2017). Since it is recessive,
you need two copies of the gene to manifest the disease, but 1/30 Americans have at least one copy of
the gene, so it is easily passed on (Hulslander 2017). To treat this disease, some scientists believe a
viral vector can be used in gene therapy while others say using a virus is too risky and suggest a non
viral approach, such as liposomes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gene therapy is one of the newest, yet controversial solutions to treating many diseases, including
Cystic Fibrosis. Gene therapy is the insertion of a normal gene into deficient cells using an appropriate
vector (Hart, et al. 2006). However, it does have potential risks, leading to the argument of if they
should be used or not, and if used, is a viral or non viral approach better. It becomes complicated since
many symptoms of these diseases begin in early childhood, and deciding whether or not to subject a
child to these possible dangers is a hard choice, but do the benefits outweigh the risks? As stated
above, Cystic Fibrosis can lead to early death, around 37 years old (Hulslander 2017), so if death is
the impending result, shouldn t every possible measure be examined, if not explored?
One side to this issue is the use of viral vectors in gene therapy to cure the underlying disease. One of
the first viral vectors used was the adenovirus vector. The adenovirus by itself is a linear double
stranded DNA molecule that causes mild respiratory infections, but when used as a vector, certain
genes and regions are removed to make it less harmful (Alton, et al. 2010). The adenovirus vector is
easy to grow, adaptable, able to infect both dividing and non dividing cells and is quick to

Once Were Warriors And Tess Of The DUrbervilles Essay
How do the Authors of Once Were Warriors and Tess of the D Urbervilles Explore the Subjugation of
Women in Patriarchal Societies?
The film Once Were Warriors, directed by Lee Tamahori, and the novel, Tess of the D Urbervilles by
Thomas Hardy differ in terms of context, however each explores the subjugation of women in a
patriarchal society. Tamahori and Hardy both explore the idea that patriarchy traps women in
oppressive situations employing the settings of their texts and the characters they devised. Each author
concludes that gender subjugation forces women to respond in drastic ways through the
characterisation of their protagonists as well as through symbolism. It is Tamahori s cinematography,
and Hardy s narrative perspective and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jake for example, is portrayed as an arrogant, violent man, often depicted yelling and resorting to his
fists when things do not go his way, Tamahori using cinematography to emphasise his violent nature.
When Jake beats Beth for the first time on screen Tamahori frequently employs an upward camera
angle to emphasise Jake s power. The upwards torso shots in particular allow the audience to view
Jake s body language and facial expression. From these shots, evidence of Jake s violence are captured
in his tightened muscles and strained face. Tamahori contrast of power in downward camera angles for
Beth highlighting her brutalization. The downward angles allow the audience to witness Beth s fearful
facial expressions and the contortions of a damaged body. In this contrast Tamahori is able to further
emphasise situations of domestic abuse. Jake s violent portrayal as an abusive man is symbolic of
Maori men enforcing patriarchy in post colonial New Zealand communities. Although Hardy s
antagonist Alec D Urberville is not physically violent, he is portrayed as an emotionally manipulative
privileged male who uses these characteristics to entrap Tess. Alec s courtship of Tess is oppressive in
the sense that he believes he is entitled to her, that because he had sex with her once he has the right to
call himself her master. Hardy hints at her rape in his narrative

Benefits Of Offshore Oil Drilling
Offshore oil drilling is a big contribution to obtaining oil for the U.S., but it is also a big controversy
to continue offshore drilling or to stop the drilling. most of the world s energy comes from the use of
oil, even though there are other resources to use oil is the most commonly used, But there is a shortage
in oil especially in the U.S. so they suggest drilling for oil in the ocean to reach unexplored oil wells.
There are benefits in offshore oil drilling such as jobs, domestic fuel, and environmental benefits.
Those that argue the U.S. should expand the offshore oil drilling believe that the benefits drilling
brings will help the U.S. out of its foreign oil dependency. Although the side effects are have big
impacts just like the benefits. The side effects include environmental risks, oil dependency, and
whether or not there is enough oil. Offshore oil drilling is a subject not many know about, there is a lot
of research that still needs to be done and a lot of research that still does not give positive conclusions.
All in all I believe Energy Efficiency is the best solution to offshore drilling an example would be
using electric cars, using solar, and wind power for electricity, and changing how we obtain energy
altogether. One of America s priorities is creating more jobs for everyone and offshore oil drilling does
create jobs like specialized technicians, laborers, cooks, doctors, scientists and a number of other
specialized workers as well as secondary jobs

An Inspector Calls
An Inspector Calls One of the main themes of JB Priestley s play An Inspector Calls is how man treats
his fellow man. An Inspector Calls was set in 1912 in an Edwardian society this was a time of great
divide between the classes. There was a lot of social unrest as the working class people where uniting
to protest for fair pay, reduced working hours, and better working conditions. The play is set in The
Birling Household during Shelia Birling and Gerald Crofts engagement party. The party comes to an
abrupt end when a unknown inspector arrives at their door with some news. The news that the
inspector has is that a girl names Eva Smith committed suicide by drinking strong disinfectant.

play he realises his wrong and changes his way: My god I m not likely to forget This showing he feels
bad for what he did. It also shows he has learnt his lesson. Eva after falling pregnant with Eric s baby
went to a charity that helped woman in need. She was very desperate at this time and used Mrs Birling
name and a false story about her husband leaving her. Not know Mrs Birling was the head of the
panel. After hearing Eva use her name Mrs Birling took an instant disliking to her and used her power
to turn her case down pushing her over the edge. After finding out she was pregnant she told her to go
and find the father it was his responsibility not knowing it was Eric s baby. Priestley has created the
inspector to force the characters to look at their attitudes and lives; to hopefully awaken their social
conscience and make them take responsibility for their treatment of Eva Smith. I think he does this by
not making him like a character but like their conscience and by making his name Goole like Ghoul. I
don t think he succeeds as only 2 of the characters have changed their views and take repsonbitlity for
their actions where the rest have not changed they tried to sweep it under the carpet. Gerald and Mr

Relational Dialectics Theory Essay
Comparing relationships to unicycles seems strange or unlikely, however the constant strive for
balance against opposing forces is a perfect description for relational dialectics theory (Griffin, 2009).
Barbara Montgomery, an interpersonal communication scholar, describes riding a unicycle as a task of
contradicting forces, constantly pulling against each other in a tug of war motion. The best way to
control the wheel is by the constant changes in movement, adapting one way or the other, to maintain
control over the fall (Griffin). When Montgomery and Baxter first started researching interpersonal
relationships they were surprised by the feedback they discovered from their interviews (Griffin,
2009). They found multiple truths to a lot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They argue that these tendencies are common towards all relationships and are unavoidable (Griffin).
The core concept that stands out of relational dialectics theory is contradiction (Griffin, 2009). A
contradiction happens whenever you have two interdependent forces that mutually work against each
other (Griffin). This is continually happening in relationships because they are in a constant state of
flux. Relationships are constantly changing and there is no complete certainty. Baxter and
Montgomery give the example of contradiction as a game of tug of war created through interpersonal
conversations. Moreover, these theorists believe that contradictions are inevitable and can be used to
constructively enhance the quality of relationships (Griffin). When researching, Baxter came across
three reoccurring contradictions that come as a balancing act for relationships: integration separation,
stability change, and expression nonexpression (Griffin, 2009). There are two ways to experience
these dialectic contradictions, internally or externally. Internal dialectic refers to the contradictions
within the relationship, whereas external dialectic refers to contradictions between the couple and the
community (Griffin). Baxter and Montgomery regard the internal dialect for integration and separation
as a contradiction between connectedness and separateness (Griffin, 2009). As an individual a person
feels the need to be independent and

A Literature Review Of Citizen Science
A Literature Review of Citizen Science
Rich Leopold
11/12/2014
Citizen science is the collaboration of the scientific community directing volunteers in data collection
efforts. In a citizen science program the scientist maintains a leadership position and directs all actions
according to the scientific need. Citizen science relies on the individual s, or groups, motivation to
perform the required tasks. Citizen science programs are generally focused around data gathering. The
volunteers must be trained in sound scientific practices in order to ensure the highest quality data
possible. These programs allow for the scientific community to harvest larger quantities of data and
allow the volunteers to become active members in the scientific community.
Citizen science is not a new concept. There have been historic instances of large groups of volunteers
participating in scientific data collection, such as the National Audubon Society annual Christmas bird
count in 1900 (Bonney, Cooper, Dickinson, Kelling, Phillips, Rosenberg, Shirk, 2009, p. 977). The
Cornell Lab of Ornithology has a citizen science program, which has been in operation since 1966.
Each year over 200,000 citizen scientists contribute to ongoing research each year. Over 60 research
papers, since 1997, have been published, using results derived from data received from participants in
various programs (Cornell Lab of Ornithology, 2014).

American Military Aviation in the 20th Century
Throughout the 20th century, the use of military aircraft often took part in deciding whether a battle or
war was lost or won. The United States has been marked as notorious for successfully applying their
military aviation strengths to early and mid 20th century warfare. The strategic B 29 Superfortress
bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki forced Japan to surrender, allowing the United States (and
Allies) to claim victory, ending World War II. In the Korean War, US military aviation proved
victorious as US fighter pilots were better equipped and trained, dominating their Chinese, North
Korean, and Soviet Russian opponents. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The use of military aircraft proved greatly beneficial for the United States as they faced a two front
war in the Pacific and Europe. Utilizing their vast human and industrial resources to develop and
construct systematic uses of air power, the US achieved victory in honorable triumph over Germany
and Japan. During World War II, the world battled in a race for dominance in the air, with the US
arguably finishing first. U.S. factories produced overwhelming numbers of fighter and bombers, and
in both Europe and the Pacific, aviation proved crucial in tactical and strategic roles. The nature of air
warfare was remolded due to the technological leaps and performance and armament of aircraft. The
US began to experiment with new building materials for planes that surpassed many other nations
such as Japan and Britain. Paper and wooden planes were a thing of the past for the most part in the
beginning of the war. Titanium and Aluminium wings and fuselages were slapped onto new
developments such as the P 51 Mustang and P 47 Thunderbolt. In addition, new armaments were
added to new aircraft such as M2 browning machine guns that proved effective against paper and
wooden made Japanese fighters and bombers. These advances allowed more air dominance against
German and Japanese enemy aircraft, causing World War II to heavily fall in favor of the United
States and the

About the Sarbanes-Oxley Act Essay
Between the years 2000 and 2002 there were over a dozen corporate scandals involving unethical
corporate governance practices. The allegations ranged from faulty revenue reporting and falsifying
financial records, to the shredding and destruction of financial documents (Patsuris, 2002). Most
notably, are the cases involving Enron and Arthur Andersen. The allegations of the Enron scandal
went public in October 2001. They included, hiding debt and boosting profits to the tune of more than
one billion dollars. They were also accused of bribing foreign governments to win contacts and

The act identifies and assigns accountability to those who knowingly falsify documents and it clearly
states the consequences for acting outside the defined standard, relating to corporate governance.
Using case studies we will review how the passing of the Sarbanes Oxley Act is helping to
standardized a code of conduct and how it has increased the awareness of corporate responsibility.
First, we will review the definitions of corporate governance, business ethics and corporate
responsibility. Next, we will examine the effectiveness of the Sarbanes Oxley Act, through a case
study and identify possible challenges the Sarbanes Oxley Act may face, as public demand for social
responsibility increases. Finally, we will review proactive recommendations for provisions to key
titles of the Sarbanes Oxley Act. These provisions will accommodate the growing public demand for
ethical and social responsibility.
As details of the Enron scandal surfaced public outrage grew, calling for action, accountability and
consequences. Corporate governance began receiving renewed interest. Corporate governance is a
multi faceted subject that sets forth the rules and responsibilities of the relationship between the
corporation and its stakeholders (Cross Miller, 2012). This includes the company s officers and

In Sixth Sense the director uses Voice over to show, the theme of supernatural and communication.
The voice over is used after Malcolm and Anna s dialogue. When Malcolm sees Anna dropping his

How Sugar Affects The Melting Rate Of Ice Research
The Effect of Sugar On The Melting Rate Of Ice.
Abstract:
The melting rate of each type of ice cube was different, depending on whether they had sugar in them
or not. One type of ice cube contained sugar, where the other one didn t, and as a result, the lowering
of the freezing point of the water seemed to be affected by the sugar.
Introduction:
I conducted this experiment to see whether sugar would cause the ice cube to melt faster. There were
two different types of ice cubes; just pure water, and water that contained sugar.
Liquid water contains molecules that are disordered and jumbled, but when it is frozen, the molecules
become ordered and regular. The sugar molecules don t fit into this, so when you freeze the water, the
water freezes first and the sugar stays behind in the liquid part as the ice develops. Sugar makes the
ice harder to form, therefore lowering the freezing point. By lowering the freezing point, it keeps the
ice from re freezing as easily, helping to melt the rest of the ice. ... Show more content on

The only dependent variable is the time the ice cubes take to melt. The controlled variables are the
size of the ice cube, and the room conditions they melted in.

Toni Morrison Victimizers
In the novel A Mercy by Toni Morrison, an award winning novelist and researcher, she suggests that
the characters in the novel are both victims and victimizers. She supports this claim by first creating a
character that have gone through struggles in the past and using their beliefs as a reason to isolate
another person. Then she created a character that had many sorrows and tragedies in their life and use
the grief as a reason to abuse other people. Finally Morrison used a character to use their hardships of
their past to justify the treatment of their children. Morrison s purpose is to explain where we come
from in order to explain our roots and how we interact with the world, each other, and our pasts. This
work is significant because Morrison uses the qualities of victims and victimizers in the same
characters to show that people can be both. According to Oxford dictionary, the formal definition of a

According to behavioral economists, consumers don t always behave rationally, like a market (in

Other psychological factors have an impact on decisions. This explains why very often, consumers

Wyatt Earp s Tombstone
In many modern period piece movies, the screenwriters put extra effort in world building so that the
film s story can seem more real. One example of this kind of movie is 1993 s Tombstone. Tombstone
follows Wyatt Earp and his family in their struggle to peacefully live alongside a violent gang called
the Cowboys. Between periods of tense hostility and character growth, this film gives viewers a wide
and varied scope of how life was in 1881 Arizona. Opening the movie is a newsreel style of narration
which sets up how Arizona was in 1879. It began with the explanation that silver based riches were
being found and founded in the Arizona area through mining for the gem and providing goods and
services. Promise of this paradise prompted farmers, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The lead woman in this movie comes into town with an acting troupe and says that her heaven is room
service and traveling around the world. This is a typical draw for Easterners to come to the West as it
was a wildly different place they did not need to cross an Ocean for. This woman, Josie Marcus, also
is seen as vile for being with a man for looks but not love. Calamity Jane ran into similar issues with
her persona as evidenced by this situation: Her masculine prowess, symbolized by her aggressive
movements, conventional male clothing, and gun were acceptable in the ring, but not back stage
(Russel 30). Even on the men s side where Wyatt Earp is seen as the quintessential frontiersman as
stated by Fabian, note the lean silhouette, eyes closed by the sun yet sharp as a hawk, he s got the look
of both predator and prey, there are men who show different traits. Billy is a character who seems to
be on the outskirts of society as he calls the Cowboys his friends yet all they ever do is laugh at him.
The reason for this may be revealed through later revelations as he shows homosexual feelings for
Fabian. This is shown through his words and tone when speaking about him as well as how he reacts
to Fabians death: quickly squeezing the dead hand and running from the Cowboys. Public perception
of homosexuality at the time was that it was scientifically reviled. Peter Boag found in his report of
this subject that, precisely at this time so called experts began to classify unusual sexualities as
medical issues. They lumped together under the rubric sexual inversion a host of what they considered
perversions, including what later would be separately understood as homosexuality, transsexuality,
and hermaphroditism. Together, these themes show great detail into what gender roles were in 1881
Arizona and how strictly they were

We Are A Catholic Heritage By Donald Dayton And American...
This semester, as a class, we have peeled away the layers of what evangelicalism and fundamentalism
means throughout history, especially in our Western culture. I am intrigued with them both and their
very presence in many of our modern day congregations, as well as the secular parts of our society.
After visiting Grace Covenant Church of Austin, Texas, many of the attributes that have been
emphasized in books such as Rediscovering an Evangelical Heritage by Donald Dayton and American
Apocalypse by Matthew Sutton, I experienced while visiting Grace. We are a church transformed by
grace, connected through relationships and committed to service is their mission statement and as is
everything down in Texas, they are big! They have a large campus with several buildings surrounding
the main sanctuary and a visitors center that can be accessed with one of their many golf carts. I must
say, as someone who works with youth, I was impressed as to their commitment to a separate building
for kids, especially those in middle school and high school. At a time when autonomy is so important
for a young person, (and budgets are limited), having their own space is quite impressive. The first
thing you notice upon entering the stadium styled sanctuary, is the focus on the stage; very theatrical.
To the left of the stage, there is a large drop down screen for people to follow along with the lyrics
when the singing has begun. Hanging behind the band on the main stage, is a bohemian or

Survey Of Security On Internet Of Things ( Iot ) Essay
Survey of Security in Internet Of Things(IoT)
Jacquelyn Rapose
School of Computing
Clemson University
Clemson, USA jrapose@g.clemson.edu Abstract The Internet of Things (IoT) is a technology that has
transformed our daily lives because of its distributed and ubiquitous nature. Security and privacy
issues exist with the use of the IoT and must be addressed.
In this paper, I discuss some of the security challenges that the IoT architecture has to address. I also
compare the challenges that were inherited from the technologies related to the internet and those that
appear in IoT from present networks.
Keywords IoT, security, solution.
I. INTRODUCTION
The Internet of Things is an infrastructure that connects physical devices/objects to the internet and
not just computer devices, making it possible for a user to have remote access or control over that
object. IoT has the following three categories of objects
1. General objects having communication or processing capabilities embedded in them, for e.g.
smartphones.
2. Sensing and actuating objects that collect information about their environment and manipulate it
through remote access.
3. Data capturing and Data carrying objects that use technologies like NFC to communicate. [1]
The ubiquitous nature of the Internet of Things provides many benefits, however, the security and
privacy problems related with it has to be tackled. The distributed nature of technologies that IoT
relies on is prone to many security and privacy

The Requirements For Home Area Network Security
Abstract:
The main objective of this document is to create and analyze the requirement for home area network
security. Security set up balance is always required against the risk being moderated. As HAN is
related to the households there is a little interest paid to the home area network security. Earlier the
threats for the HAN were other malicious programs and viruses. Now in this modern world with the
invention of wireless networking, broadband and convergence of various communication technologies
which has been implemented by HANs, these vulnerabilities have increased more. Public has a very
less knowledge on theft of personal information, hacking of credit cards and they are not going to
affect them a lot. Thus this document illustrates the present and future technology of home area
network security and how is it going to affect and also some of the security measures for home area
network.
1. Introduction:
In this modern era, everyone has a computer and has an internet connection. The benefits that go with
networking and the interconnection of computers have made a lot of impact into an average
household. Home area network is referred as the downward pricing trend of the personal computers
and the networking hardware. The latest versions of the different operating systems comprise of
network wizards which facilitates configuring of a home local area network practically easy.
Nowadays anyone can have a home area network at their place by connecting the PC

Decline Of The World Wide Web
Decline of the World Wide Web
Hossein Derakhshan article, A Blogfather s Lament for the Web spoke about his concerns of the
decline of the web. Writing this article, he directed his concerns for Facebook users in 2014. The
article appeared to be about his past journaling experience in Iran which lead him to discover
blogging, while keeping connected with his readers from his daily column within the Iranian paper.
However, when Derakhshan went to prison because of his internet activities and returned six years
later, he argued that Facebook was decreasing the web user s individuality because of its centralized
appeal, stating that Facebook likes you to stay within it (Derakhshan, para.8), and McLuhan s concept
of technology being the extension of man , were used to analyze Derakhshan s argument on Facebook
trying to take over the web ruining human intelligence for the trouble time (Derakhshan, para, 17) .
Derakhshan felt that it prevented the opportunity to develop creative ideas and thoughts reducing their
exposure to more challenging and different ideas (Derakhshan. para.13), that the rest of the world web
can provide for the Facebook user.
Introducing the contrast of within and outside , Derakhshan was showing how the world wide web is
separated from Facebook. Derakhshan wrote on how Facebook was using the external resources of the
world wide web and embedding the multiple videos and outside articles within the platform so users

The concrete stairs ascended at a harsh angle, a glistening bronze handrail aside them. At the foot of
the stairs was a large, clear landing, void of all but two cracked pots of dying hydrangea and a ratty
vending machine that only sold generic ginger ale. There weren t any lights in the landing, nor were
there any windows. It was dark and very damp; some green and purple mosses grew in tatters from the
ceiling and occasionally stretched across the dusty floor.
But, from the head of the stairs, a glaring ray of sunshine slid through. A worn, black door stood ajar,
making room for the blazing warmth to intrude.
The body in the middle of the stairs was sprawled like a struck animal. Its arms were strewn out,

But oddly she seemed uninterested. Her wagging tail began to sail across the carpeted floor, dragging

Benjamin s quickly falling face.
Is this is this not enough? he muttered, hands trembling.
He clenched his outstretched hand around the severed lips, recalling the lurid scene from which they
had come. The blood that likely still slunk from step to step ... the pearly white, up rolled eyeballs....
Benjamin stood slowly, his face steely and speckled with stale anger.
Alright, he sighed, making a stride past the hulking dog and into the bedroom.
The room was musty and dimly lit. A heavy curtain was drawn across the only window, allowing only
a slight and pathetic slant of balmy sunlight to slip in. Faintly, the air tasted of dog urine and stray fur
a fusty undertone hovering beneath ghostly.
Perhaps, said Benjamin, the next shall please you.... But he wasn t convinced. Each kill ... each

United States Government Essay
United States Government
The United States has a deeply rooted and embedded tradition through the Constitution of having a
federalist style of governing as its structural framework for operating and guiding the government of
the country. The form of governing is best described as a balance between powers of the central
government and the powers of each independent and autonomic state. Federalism is a system in which
the power to govern is shared between national and provincial (state) governments, creating what is
often called a federation (Wikipedia 1).This style of governance has not been the only structure
instituted in American history in order to implement civilized law and order among the people of the
land. Prior to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The decision by a nation of people to implement one of the three main forms of government,
confederacy, unitary, or federalism, is an important aspect in defining the nature and role of
government in the lives of its citizens. Confederacies exist as a group of autonomous individual states,
regions, or member components who form a national body, or centralized government, to represent
their independent interests at a more regional and international level. The existence of the national
government is derived from the consent of each governed autonomous state or region. The entities that
submit to this central ruling authority are able to withdraw from the compact that binds them together.
The national authority created is only bestowed with the powers, authority, and privileges which the
independent components in the confederacy allow. If any member component feels its interests are no
longer being served or the compact has interfered with its autonomy, then that entity of the
confederacy can sever its ties with the national body. This can occur because the state, region, or
member component has the supreme ultimate authority over its own affairs. As further examination
and analysis will demonstrate there is no inherent authority invested into the national government as is
the case of a federalist system. The most relevant examples of a

Resistance Of The Mutant Oncogenes
Introduction
One in five deaths today is a result of some form of cancer. This terrible disease stems from mutations
in body cells, which interfere with the cells normal regulation of growth, division, and death. Cells can
make occasional mistakes and divide too early or not destroy themselves at the right time (Alberts et
al. 2014). The Hayflick limit, described in 1961 by Leonard Hayflick, states that normal human cells
can divide for about 50 times (Watts 2011). In cancers, though, this limit does not exist, and cells
continually divide. Occasional mistakes do not have tremendous consequences on large, multicellular
organisms, however. When many cells begin to make these mistakes, though, tumorigenesis and
cancer can occur. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The pigment protects skin cells, particularly the DNA of the cells, from damaging ultraviolet radiation
from the sun, and has been shown to reduce the frequency of radiation induced mutations and to
completely remove low dose radiation effects (Mosse et al. 2000). Within melanocytes are
melanosomes, organelles in which melanin production occurs. The melanosomes have 4 stages of
maturity, starting with stage 1, or premelanosomes, and progressing to stage 4, or mature
melanosomes. The stages can be determined based on the composition of the vesicles in the cells
(Setaluri 2003). The mature melanosomes then branch off from the dendritic tips of the melanocytes
and travel to keratinocytes, keratin producing cells (Seiberg 2001).

lymphocytic leukemia, non Hodgkin s lymphoma, osteosarcoma, choriocarcinoma, head and neck

Components of folate vitamins are required for DNA synthesis and cell replication, so by inhibiting
folic acid and other folates, methotrexate slows the DNA synthesis and division of certain cancer cells,
and impacts cell proliferation (Jolviet et al. 1983). The estimated half maximal effective concentration

The History of Bowling
The sport of bowling has a lengthy history packed with an evolution that has comprehensive rules; and
is an indoor activity that has become one of the most popular sports in the world. It can easily be said
that over 50% of Americans have bowled once in their lifetime, whether it was for a birthday party or
on a date. However, many people bowl routinely without knowing anything about the interesting
history of the game.
Oddly, one of the newest of professional sports, bowling is one of the most ancient. In one form or
another bowling has been around for more than 7,000 and years. First traces of the sport were
discovered in Egyptian tombs, but historians feel that cavemen may well have had been the originator.

From a few hundred league bowlers in 1895, the ABC now reaches some 5 million male bowlers and
10,000 tournaments, and certifies more than 140,000 lanes in 10,000 bowling centers today. The
distaffers organized the Women s International Bowling Congress (WIBC) in 1916 with some 40
members, that small number has now surpassed 3 million. (Pezzano 17)
Thanks to the ABC and the WIBC the rules of the game are well defined. Everyone can compete with
everyone else because the lanes, balls, and rules are standardized and many systems of handicapping
have been developed. (Pezzano 18)
Bowling received its greatest boost with the invention of the automatic pin setter. It was a big step in
allowing the businessmen of the game, the bowling alley owner, to remodernize both their alley and
thinking. Bowling became a complete family sport with modern, efficient equipment available at all
times for men, women, and children. (Pezzano 18)
In practically all surveys taken in the early 1970 s, bowling had reached the point where it rated only
behind football, baseball, and basketball, not only as the most popular but as the sport people like to
follow most. However, bowling has long been the number one participant sport. There are bowling
lanes in basements of private

If the medication to render the patient s unconsciousness fails, awareness occurs. The patients may
feel pain, while the pain and sleep medication fail the paralytic agent doesn t, making it impossible for
the patient to communicate this dire situation to the surgeon/anesthesiologist. This awareness occurs
infrequently, and the timespan and the harshness vary. Patients may or may not feel pain. Some just

failure of misuse. Using a deep anesthetic during high risk emergency surgeries may not be in the best

Payday Loan Loans Are A Good Option
But sometimes there are unforeseen financial circumstances. Paydays loans are a good option to
consider. Keep these tips in mind when thinking about getting a payday loan.
People should only use a payday loan as their last resort. Loans carry very high interest rates which
actually have you paying close to 25 percent of the initial amount of the loan. Prior to securing a
payday loan, investigate your options. A simple method to find reputable payday loan lenders to to
look on websites that review them. You can get information on which companies are trustworthy and
which ones have shady practices that you should avoid. If set on getting payday loans, review all
information before signing a contract. There are scams that are set up to offer a subscription that you
may or may not want, and take the money right out of your bank checks account without your
knowledge. Do not get involved in a never ending vicious cycle. You should never get a payday loan
to get the money to pay the note on another one. Do everything you can to get out of this cycle. It is
very easy to fall into this trap if you don t take steps to prevent it. The costs can spiral out of control
quickly and leave you broke.
Be sure you have a clear understanding of payment due dates. Loans have high rates when it comes to
their interest rates, and these companies often charge fees from late payments. It is imperative that
these types of loans are paid on time. It s even better to do so prior to the day they

Composed in free verse, the poem Spring by Edna St. Vincent Millay contains many poetic elements
that create a feeling of structure throughout. As free verse challenges the conventions of writing, so
too, does St. Vincent Millay s interpretation of Spring challenge societies conventional beliefs
associated with the season. Millay uses various different poetic elements of writing as effective
alternatives to conventional methods of prose such as use of quatrain, and an adherence to metric and
rhyme schemes. Elevating itself from such conventions, Millay s poem incorporates the use of
personification, thought provoking questions, repetition, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This assumption is reinforced in the latter part of the poem, when Millay personifies April once more
unsatisfied with the seasons return, stating April Comes like an idiot, babbling and strewing flowers.
(17 18) By again referring to the season of Spring as April, (1,17) as well as associating the month
with human characteristics and activities such as being an idiot, babbling, and strewing flowers, (18)
the personification of Spring becomes even more clear. From this perspective, just as Spring cannot
appease Millay with beauty or prospect of flowers, one cannot truly mend a broken relationship with
words and gifts alone. The actions of babbling and strewing (18) are associated with ignorance, thus
one can assume Millay is annoyed with the month of Spring, as people who receive flowers are most
likely doing so because they have been annoyed or hurt by their significant other. Just as Spring
continually returns, creating life ignorant of death, an annoying lover returns to a damaged heart,
ignorant to the absence of love. Millay uses free verse elements, more specifically thought provoking
questions, to enhance the overall poetic feeling of Spring . Beginning with the proposal of a question,
To what purpose, April, do you return again? (1) Millay blatantly challenges the reason behind natural
order. Millay again does this when stating, It is

The Reasons for Growth of Rapid Population between Seventeenth and Nineteenth Century Britain
A wide variety of people living in the world have always been exposed at constant change and the
evolution in population has always been a concern and issue by regimes and countries through out
time, especially if it occurred within such short period of time. British economy and Europe
underwent their greatest population transformation between the late 17th and the late 19th century.
Especially, the growth of the English population in the eighteenth century has long interested
economic historians and it subsequently provoked Thomas Malthus to debate about the relationship
between population change and economics growth. Nonetheless, the structure ... Show more content

Despite these difficulties, the Cambridge Group s leading members, Tony Wrigley and Roger
Schofield have discerned a rise in the rate of English population increase in the second half of the
eighteenth century and have emphasized fertility is the key mechanisms of population growth.
The major reason for the growth of population in eighteenth century England can be accredited to a
fall in mortality, which was particularly marked during the first half of the eighteenth century. The fall
affected all socioeconomic groups and does not appear to have occurred for primarily economic
reasons. In addition to an explanation involving the introduction of smallpox inoculation, the major
hypothesis considered by Peter Razzell was that the significant improvement in domestic hygiene
associated with the rebuilding of housing in brick and tile brought about a major reduction in mortality
in the first half of the century.
Revolutions are generally linked with upheaval in society, transforming a nation and its people. British
agricultural revolution was the unprecedented increase in agricultural production in England due to
increases in labour and land productivity that took place between 1750 and 1850. The Agricultural
Revolution saw the invention of the reaper, which saved many back breaking hors of labour in the
fields and eliminated the fallow land from farming. Agricultural revolution allowed the agricultural

Minecraft Monologue
My family is pretty close, but I feel like we only got close more recently. We are all more mature and
have more time for each other even though we live in two different parts of the state and have our own
lives. When I was younger I had a happy childhood but I do not think it was the happiest it could have
been, but it also was not the saddest either. I grew up way too fast as a kid and I never got a true
childhood. I am grateful for how close my family now is and I am glad it is different than my
childhood. Now we all play games together and have big family game nights where we compete with
each other. We love going camping and bringing our giant camper to these beautiful state parks and it
is just us and the nature. We cook over the fire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Minecraft I would have to survive and battle all the mobs, and it would be lonely unless I got
wolves and horses. Animal crossing would be more interesting because I have other people to interact
with, but I would have less to do for life. So I am torn between a lonely world where I have to survive
and create my own life and a boring world where I have people to talk to. I think I would pick
Minecraft because there is always something to do and at night you get to gear up and fight all the
monsters. Minecraft can also have mods where you can have different activities or different worlds to
be in, so I think Minecraft would be the right choice because I have so much more to do. Also I would
have more people to interact with because of the mods that can be added into the world. Though I
would not pick Animal Crossing it is still a close second to Minecraft. Animal Crossing would be such
a fun, easy way to live because they do not have any worries and they just go fishing or shake trees for
fruits. I just want to have that peaceful life with no worries, but I also feel like I would get bored
without any excitement in my life. Although in Animal Crossing all the characters are super cute and
have cute costumes. I love the cute animals and how they look, the rendering is really cool. Animal
Crossing would be an amazing choice, but I think it would be too boring even though I would be
surrounded by other animals that want to talk and interact with me and give me things to do for them

The World Is Too Much With Us Romanticism
Romantic authors from the 18th to 19th centuries saw nature as being sublime, a force too large and
beautiful to comprehend. As the movement placed emphasis on the individual s reaction to and
experience with both dreams and reality, man s relationship with nature was extremely important to
their works. The First Industrial Revolution, however, which also occurred in the 18th to 19th century,
caused a massive migration from rural landscapes to urban. At the same time, as more and more
people were living in cities, the middle class was emerging with the purchasing power to buy many
goods that were suddenly available. The goal of The World is Too Much With Us, by William
Wordsworth, is to persuade a wide audience that the cost of the newly emerging consumer culture of
this time period is too heavy, and the speaker uses familiar figurative elements and a bitter, ... Show

The speaker claims in this poem that getting and spending, (line 2) has caused mankind to lay waste
[its] powers (2), which is a condemnation of the materialistic focus people were beginning to develop
in the early 1800s. According to them, the obsession with acquisition of consumerist products has
caused humanity to relinquish its relationship with nature; consider a line further along in the poem, in
which they say We have given our hearts away (4). In this statement, they make it clear that they view
the rapport s disappearance as a loss, even referring to the material comforts as only a sordid boon!
(4), and therefore not worth what mankind has given up to obtain them. The opening words of the
poem are a reference to this idea: The world is too much with us (1) means that the general population
has become a burden on the Earth, unable to connect to or appreciate it distracted as they are by
consumerism, and the rest of the poem goes about proving that this is a negative

What Happened At The Macondo Well
Humans are a poisonous sludge, slowly poisoning ourselves and all other inhabitants. There are many
ways we do this, offshore oil drilling being one of them. Offshore oil drilling is the process of drilling
into the earth and pulling up petroleum, a natural fuel source made of decomposed organisms. While
there are many positive effects, there are too many negative ones for oil drilling to continue. Offshore
oil drilling is too dangerous to be considered safe for use in the ecosystem. Not only is it too
dangerous, oil rigs are made in an environment many would deem too hazardous for settling any type
of structure. Oil drilling kills many people each year and pollutes the marine environment, killing the
oceans natural inhabitants. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nature is unpredictable and one cannot prepare for every outcome. While nature is a big factor in well
breaches, one main factor is the oil companies lack of restrictions. This is demonstrated in National
Environmental Health Association Position on Offshore Oil Drilling , where the author states: An
ABC News review of federal records shows that in spite of chronic safety violations, MMS... In a
majority of cases in which workers were killed, there was no record of fines paid. When fines were
imposed, the maximum penalty was only $25,000 (5). This quote shows how much the oil companies
are allowed to get away with. If this were to happen in any other industry, they would have been
arrested and forced to pay millions of dollars in fines, but not when it comes to oil because of how
much revenue it brings in. The amalgam of these three facts shows the dangers of oil drilling in the
extreme environments that oil is found in. In addition, offshore oil drilling causes water pollution and
disrupts the marine ecosystem. Doctor Ermal Xhelilaj states in his article, The Behavior and Effects of
Oil Pollution into Marine Environment and Oceans that Shorelines are also vulnerable to the oil
pollution and a study of the US Coast Guard has revealed that exposed rocky cliffs and seawalls, wave
cut rocky platforms, fine to medium grained sand beaches, coarse grained sand beaches, mixed sand
and gravel beaches, gravel beaches/ riprap

Rkki Tikki Movie And Movie Analysis
Rikk tikk tikki tikki tchk! (Kipling Pg 143). This will be comparing the story Rikki Tikki Tavi and the
movie Rikki Tikki Tavi. The similarities and differences will be how the family never gives Rikki
Tikki a name, How the snake keeps his story, and Rikki Tikki acts in the bathroom with Nag. To begin
in the Movie Rikki Tikki is given the name by the son (Teddy) unlike the Book. In the movie after
finding him, they take him back to the house and warmed him up, then the boy decided to call him
Rikki Tikki. But in the book (Kipling pg 144) there is no such scene, all he does is go around the
house and gets fed. Throughout the whole book there is no mention of the family saying his name.
Even after Nag sneaks in the washroom the book just says It s the mongoose again, Alice; the little
chap has saved our lives now. (Kipling Pg 151). This is also shown in the movie word for word, but
the only parts in which they say the name Rikki Tikki is the parts they added, for instance, right after
killing Nag the mother in the movie says Oh, Rikki you are so brave and beautiful . Then is the story
(Kipling Pg 151) it says Then Teddy s mother came in with a very white face and saw what was left of
Nag, and Rikki tikki dragged himself to Teddy s bedroom and spent half the rest of the night shaking
himself tenderly to find out whether he really was broken into forty pieces, as he fancied. no word
even relating to Rikki being brave or beautiful. And that lead me to believe that they

  • 2. Cystic Fibrosis Can viruses used as vectors in the process of gene therapy be an effective treatment for Cystic Fibrosis? Firstly, Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic and recessive disease that mostly affects the lungs and pancreas. This leads to phlegm accumulation, salty sweat, male infertility, shortness of breath and increased risk of infection, which all contribute to premature death (CFF, 2017). Since it is recessive, you need two copies of the gene to manifest the disease, but 1/30 Americans have at least one copy of the gene, so it is easily passed on (Hulslander 2017). To treat this disease, some scientists believe a viral vector can be used in gene therapy while others say using a virus is too risky and suggest a non viral approach, such as liposomes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gene therapy is one of the newest, yet controversial solutions to treating many diseases, including Cystic Fibrosis. Gene therapy is the insertion of a normal gene into deficient cells using an appropriate vector (Hart, et al. 2006). However, it does have potential risks, leading to the argument of if they should be used or not, and if used, is a viral or non viral approach better. It becomes complicated since many symptoms of these diseases begin in early childhood, and deciding whether or not to subject a child to these possible dangers is a hard choice, but do the benefits outweigh the risks? As stated above, Cystic Fibrosis can lead to early death, around 37 years old (Hulslander 2017), so if death is the impending result, shouldn t every possible measure be examined, if not explored? One side to this issue is the use of viral vectors in gene therapy to cure the underlying disease. One of the first viral vectors used was the adenovirus vector. The adenovirus by itself is a linear double stranded DNA molecule that causes mild respiratory infections, but when used as a vector, certain genes and regions are removed to make it less harmful (Alton, et al. 2010). The adenovirus vector is easy to grow, adaptable, able to infect both dividing and non dividing cells and is quick to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The film Once Were Warriors, directed by Lee Tamahori, and the novel, Tess of the D Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy differ in terms of context, however each explores the subjugation of women in a patriarchal society. Tamahori and Hardy both explore the idea that patriarchy traps women in oppressive situations employing the settings of their texts and the characters they devised. Each author concludes that gender subjugation forces women to respond in drastic ways through the characterisation of their protagonists as well as through symbolism. The upwards torso shots in particular allow the audience to view Jake s body language and facial expression. From these shots, evidence of Jake s violence are captured in his tightened muscles and strained face. Tamahori contrast of power in downward camera angles for Beth highlighting her brutalization. The downward angles allow the audience to witness Beth s fearful facial expressions and the contortions of a damaged body. In this contrast Tamahori is able to further emphasise situations of domestic abuse. Jake s violent portrayal as an abusive man is symbolic of Maori men enforcing patriarchy in post colonial New Zealand communities. Although Hardy s antagonist Alec D Urberville is not physically violent, he is portrayed as an emotionally manipulative privileged male who uses these characteristics to entrap Tess. Alec s courtship of Tess is oppressive in the sense that he believes he is entitled to her, that because he had sex with her once he has the right to call himself her master. Benefits Of Offshore Oil Drilling Offshore oil drilling is a big contribution to obtaining oil for the U.S., but it is also a big controversy to continue offshore drilling or to stop the drilling. most of the world s energy comes from the use of oil, even though there are other resources to use oil is the most commonly used, But there is a shortage in oil especially in the U.S. so they suggest drilling for oil in the ocean to reach unexplored oil wells. There are benefits in offshore oil drilling such as jobs, domestic fuel, and environmental benefits. Those that argue the U.S. should expand the offshore oil drilling believe that the benefits drilling brings will help the U.S. out of its foreign oil dependency. Although the side effects are have big impacts just like the benefits. The side effects include environmental risks, oil dependency, and whether or not there is enough oil. Offshore oil drilling is a subject not many know about, there is a lot of research that still needs to be done and a lot of research that still does not give positive conclusions. All in all I believe Energy Efficiency is the best solution to offshore drilling an example would be using electric cars, using solar, and wind power for electricity, and changing how we obtain energy altogether. One of America s priorities is creating more jobs for everyone and offshore oil drilling does create jobs like specialized technicians, laborers, cooks, doctors, scientists and a number of other specialized workers as well as secondary jobs ... The play is set in The Birling Household during Shelia Birling and Gerald Crofts engagement party. The party comes to an abrupt end when a unknown inspector arrives at their door with some news. Eva after falling pregnant with Eric s baby went to a charity that helped woman in need. She was very desperate at this time and used Mrs Birling name and a false story about her husband leaving her. After finding out she was pregnant she told her to go and find the father it was his responsibility not knowing it was Eric s baby. Priestley has created the inspector to force the characters to look at their attitudes and lives; to hopefully awaken their social conscience and make them take responsibility for their treatment of Eva Smith. I think he does this by not making him like a character but like their conscience and by making his name Goole like Ghoul. I don t think he succeeds as only 2 of the characters have changed their views and take repsonbitlity for their actions where the rest have not changed they tried to sweep it under the carpet. Relational Dialectics Theory Essay Comparing relationships to unicycles seems strange or unlikely, however the constant strive for balance against opposing forces is a perfect description for relational dialectics theory (Griffin, 2009). Barbara Montgomery, an interpersonal communication scholar, describes riding a unicycle as a task of contradicting forces, constantly pulling against each other in a tug of war motion. The best way to control the wheel is by the constant changes in movement, adapting one way or the other, to maintain control over the fall (Griffin). When Montgomery and Baxter first started researching interpersonal relationships they were surprised by the feedback they discovered from their interviews (Griffin, 2009). They found multiple truths to a lot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They argue that these tendencies are common towards all relationships and are unavoidable (Griffin). The core concept that stands out of relational dialectics theory is contradiction (Griffin, 2009). A contradiction happens whenever you have two interdependent forces that mutually work against each other (Griffin). This is continually happening in relationships because they are in a constant state of flux. Relationships are constantly changing and there is no complete certainty. Baxter and Montgomery give the example of contradiction as a game of tug of war created through interpersonal conversations. Moreover, these theorists believe that contradictions are inevitable and can be used to constructively enhance the quality of relationships (Griffin). When researching, Baxter came across three reoccurring contradictions that come as a balancing act for relationships: integration separation, stability change, and expression nonexpression (Griffin, 2009). There are two ways to experience these dialectic contradictions, internally or externally. Internal dialectic refers to the contradictions within the relationship, whereas external dialectic refers to contradictions between the couple and the community (Griffin). Baxter and Montgomery regard the internal dialect for integration and separation as a contradiction between connectedness and separateness (Griffin, 2009). • 10. A Literature Review Of Citizen Science A Literature Review of Citizen Science Rich Leopold 11/12/2014 Citizen science is the collaboration of the scientific community directing volunteers in data collection efforts. In a citizen science program the scientist maintains a leadership position and directs all actions according to the scientific need. Citizen science relies on the individual s, or groups, motivation to perform the required tasks. Citizen science programs are generally focused around data gathering. The volunteers must be trained in sound scientific practices in order to ensure the highest quality data possible. These programs allow for the scientific community to harvest larger quantities of data and allow the volunteers to become active members in the scientific community. Citizen science is not a new concept. There have been historic instances of large groups of volunteers participating in scientific data collection, such as the National Audubon Society annual Christmas bird count in 1900 (Bonney, Cooper, Dickinson, Kelling, Phillips, Rosenberg, Shirk, 2009, p. 977). The Cornell Lab of Ornithology has a citizen science program, which has been in operation since 1966. Each year over 200,000 citizen scientists contribute to ongoing research each year. Over 60 research papers, since 1997, have been published, using results derived from data received from participants in various programs (Cornell Lab of Ornithology, 2014). American Military Aviation In The 20th Century Kareem Ceaser Timothy O?shea, Instructor American History II March 23rd, 2016 American Military Aviation in the 20th Century Throughout the 20th century, the use of military aircraft often took part in deciding whether a battle or war was lost or won. The United States has been marked as notorious for successfully applying their military aviation strengths to early and mid 20th century warfare. The strategic B 29 Superfortress bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki forced Japan to surrender, allowing the United States (and Allies) to claim victory, ending World War II. Utilizing their vast human and industrial resources to develop and construct systematic uses of air power, the US achieved victory in honorable triumph over Germany and Japan. During World War II, the world battled in a race for dominance in the air, with the US arguably finishing first. U.S. factories produced overwhelming numbers of fighter and bombers, and in both Europe and the Pacific, aviation proved crucial in tactical and strategic roles. The nature of air warfare was remolded due to the technological leaps and performance and armament of aircraft. The US began to experiment with new building materials for planes that surpassed many other nations such as Japan and Britain. Paper and wooden planes were a thing of the past for the most part in the beginning of the war. Titanium and Aluminium wings and fuselages were slapped onto new developments such as the P 51 Mustang and P 47 Thunderbolt. Abstract: The melting rate of each type of ice cube was different, depending on whether they had sugar in them or not. One type of ice cube contained sugar, where the other one didn t, and as a result, the lowering of the freezing point of the water seemed to be affected by the sugar. Introduction: I conducted this experiment to see whether sugar would cause the ice cube to melt faster. There were two different types of ice cubes; just pure water, and water that contained sugar. Liquid water contains molecules that are disordered and jumbled, but when it is frozen, the molecules become ordered and regular. The sugar molecules don t fit into this, so when you freeze the water, the water freezes first and the sugar stays behind in the liquid part as the ice develops. Sugar makes the ice harder to form, therefore lowering the freezing point. By lowering the freezing point, it keeps the ice from re freezing as easily, helping to melt the rest of the ice. ... • 16. Toni Morrison Victimizers In the novel A Mercy by Toni Morrison, an award winning novelist and researcher, she suggests that the characters in the novel are both victims and victimizers. She supports this claim by first creating a character that have gone through struggles in the past and using their beliefs as a reason to isolate another person. Then she created a character that had many sorrows and tragedies in their life and use the grief as a reason to abuse other people. Finally Morrison used a character to use their hardships of their past to justify the treatment of their children. Morrison s purpose is to explain where we come from in order to explain our roots and how we interact with the world, each other, and our pasts. This work is significant because Morrison uses the qualities of victims and victimizers in the same characters to show that people can be both. Behavioral Economics Deck October 27TH, 2010 SWITCHING BARRIERS RESEARCH 1 UNDERSTANDING CONSUMER COMPLACENCY TO SWITCHING TO THE BEST OFFER According to behavioral economists, consumers don t always behave rationally, like a market (in theory) does, and they don t make decisions based solely on facts or logic such as price or quality. Other psychological factors have an impact on decisions. This explains why very often, consumers become complacent when faced with the best value proposition. One example of this kind of movie is 1993 s Tombstone. Tombstone follows Wyatt Earp and his family in their struggle to peacefully live alongside a violent gang called the Cowboys. Between periods of tense hostility and character growth, this film gives viewers a wide and varied scope of how life was in 1881 Arizona. This is a typical draw for Easterners to come to the West as it was a wildly different place they did not need to cross an Ocean for. This woman, Josie Marcus, also is seen as vile for being with a man for looks but not love. Calamity Jane ran into similar issues with her persona as evidenced by this situation: Her masculine prowess, symbolized by her aggressive movements, conventional male clothing, and gun were acceptable in the ring, but not back stage (Russel 30). Even on the men s side where Wyatt Earp is seen as the quintessential frontiersman as stated by Fabian, note the lean silhouette, eyes closed by the sun yet sharp as a hawk, he s got the look of both predator and prey, there are men who show different traits. Billy is a character who seems to be on the outskirts of society as he calls the Cowboys his friends yet all they ever do is laugh at him. The reason for this may be revealed through later revelations as he shows homosexual feelings for Fabian. This is shown through his words and tone when speaking about him as well as how he reacts to Fabians death: quickly squeezing the dead hand and running from the Cowboys. Public perception of homosexuality at the time was that it was scientifically reviled. Peter Boag found in his report of this subject that, precisely at this time so called experts began to classify unusual sexualities as medical issues. They lumped together under the rubric sexual inversion a host of what they considered perversions, including what later would be separately understood as homosexuality, transsexuality, and hermaphroditism. This semester, as a class, we have peeled away the layers of what evangelicalism and fundamentalism means throughout history, especially in our Western culture. I am intrigued with them both and their very presence in many of our modern day congregations, as well as the secular parts of our society. After visiting Grace Covenant Church of Austin, Texas, many of the attributes that have been emphasized in books such as Rediscovering an Evangelical Heritage by Donald Dayton and American Apocalypse by Matthew Sutton, I experienced while visiting Grace. We are a church transformed by grace, connected through relationships and committed to service is their mission statement and as is everything down in Texas, they are big! They have a large campus with several buildings surrounding the main sanctuary and a visitors center that can be accessed with one of their many golf carts. I must say, as someone who works with youth, I was impressed as to their commitment to a separate building for kids, especially those in middle school and high school. At a time when autonomy is so important for a young person, (and budgets are limited), having their own space is quite impressive. The first thing you notice upon entering the stadium styled sanctuary, is the focus on the stage; very theatrical. To the left of the stage, there is a large drop down screen for people to follow along with the lyrics when the singing has begun. Hanging behind the band on the main stage, is a bohemian or ... Security and privacy issues exist with the use of the IoT and must be addressed. In this paper, I discuss some of the security challenges that the IoT architecture has to address. I also compare the challenges that were inherited from the technologies related to the internet and those that appear in IoT from present networks. Keywords IoT, security, solution. I. INTRODUCTION The Internet of Things is an infrastructure that connects physical devices/objects to the internet and not just computer devices, making it possible for a user to have remote access or control over that object. IoT has the following three categories of objects 1. General objects having communication or processing capabilities embedded in them, for e.g. smartphones. 2. Sensing and actuating objects that collect information about their environment and manipulate it through remote access. 3. Data capturing and Data carrying objects that use technologies like NFC to communicate. [1] The ubiquitous nature of the Internet of Things provides many benefits, however, the security and privacy problems related with it has to be tackled. Security set up balance is always required against the risk being moderated. As HAN is related to the households there is a little interest paid to the home area network security. Earlier the threats for the HAN were other malicious programs and viruses. Now in this modern world with the invention of wireless networking, broadband and convergence of various communication technologies which has been implemented by HANs, these vulnerabilities have increased more. Public has a very less knowledge on theft of personal information, hacking of credit cards and they are not going to affect them a lot. Thus this document illustrates the present and future technology of home area network security and how is it going to affect and also some of the security measures for home area network. 1. Federalism is a system in which the power to govern is shared between national and provincial (state) governments, creating what is often called a federation (Wikipedia 1).This style of governance has not been the only structure instituted in American history in order to implement civilized law and order among the people of the land. The decision by a nation of people to implement one of the three main forms of government, confederacy, unitary, or federalism, is an important aspect in defining the nature and role of government in the lives of its citizens. Confederacies exist as a group of autonomous individual states, regions, or member components who form a national body, or centralized government, to represent their independent interests at a more regional and international level. The existence of the national government is derived from the consent of each governed autonomous state or region. The entities that submit to this central ruling authority are able to withdraw from the compact that binds them together. The national authority created is only bestowed with the powers, authority, and privileges which the independent components in the confederacy allow. If any member component feels its interests are no longer being served or the compact has interfered with its autonomy, then that entity of the confederacy can sever its ties with the national body. This can occur because the state, region, or member component has the supreme ultimate authority over its own affairs. As further examination and analysis will demonstrate there is no inherent authority invested into the national government as is the case of a federalist system. The most relevant examples of a ... This terrible disease stems from mutations in body cells, which interfere with the cells normal regulation of growth, division, and death. Cells can make occasional mistakes and divide too early or not destroy themselves at the right time (Alberts et al. 2014). The Hayflick limit, described in 1961 by Leonard Hayflick, states that normal human cells can divide for about 50 times (Watts 2011). In cancers, though, this limit does not exist, and cells continually divide. Occasional mistakes do not have tremendous consequences on large, multicellular organisms, however. The melanosomes have 4 stages of maturity, starting with stage 1, or premelanosomes, and progressing to stage 4, or mature melanosomes. The stages can be determined based on the composition of the vesicles in the cells (Setaluri 2003). Free Verse Techniques Conveying Structure An Analysis of Spring By Edna St. Vincent Millay Composed in free verse, the poem Spring by Edna St. Vincent Millay contains many poetic elements that create a feeling of structure throughout. As free verse challenges the conventions of writing, so too, does St. Vincent Millay s interpretation of Spring challenge societies conventional beliefs associated with the season. Millay uses various different poetic elements of writing as effective alternatives to conventional methods of prose such as use of quatrain, and an adherence to metric and rhyme schemes. Elevating itself from such conventions, Millay s poem incorporates the use of personification, thought provoking questions, repetition, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This assumption is reinforced in the latter part of the poem, when Millay personifies April once more unsatisfied with the seasons return, stating April Comes like an idiot, babbling and strewing flowers. (17 18) By again referring to the season of Spring as April, (1,17) as well as associating the month with human characteristics and activities such as being an idiot, babbling, and strewing flowers, (18) the personification of Spring becomes even more clear. From this perspective, just as Spring cannot appease Millay with beauty or prospect of flowers, one cannot truly mend a broken relationship with words and gifts alone. The actions of babbling and strewing (18) are associated with ignorance, thus one can assume Millay is annoyed with the month of Spring, as people who receive flowers are most likely doing so because they have been annoyed or hurt by their significant other. Just as Spring continually returns, creating life ignorant of death, an annoying lover returns to a damaged heart, ignorant to the absence of love. Millay uses free verse elements, more specifically thought provoking questions, to enhance the overall poetic feeling of Spring . Beginning with the proposal of a question, To what purpose, April, do you return again? (1) Millay blatantly challenges the reason behind natural order. Millay again does this when stating, It is ... Despite these difficulties, the Cambridge Group s leading members, Tony Wrigley and Roger Schofield have discerned a rise in the rate of English population increase in the second half of the eighteenth century and have emphasized fertility is the key mechanisms of population growth. The major reason for the growth of population in eighteenth century England can be accredited to a fall in mortality, which was particularly marked during the first half of the eighteenth century. The fall affected all socioeconomic groups and does not appear to have occurred for primarily economic reasons. In addition to an explanation involving the introduction of smallpox inoculation, the major hypothesis considered by Peter Razzell was that the significant improvement in domestic hygiene associated with the rebuilding of housing in brick and tile brought about a major reduction in mortality in the first half of the century. Revolutions are generally linked with upheaval in society, transforming a nation and its people. • 43. The World Is Too Much With Us Romanticism Romantic authors from the 18th to 19th centuries saw nature as being sublime, a force too large and beautiful to comprehend. As the movement placed emphasis on the individual s reaction to and experience with both dreams and reality, man s relationship with nature was extremely important to their works. The First Industrial Revolution, however, which also occurred in the 18th to 19th century, caused a massive migration from rural landscapes to urban. At the same time, as more and more people were living in cities, the middle class was emerging with the purchasing power to buy many goods that were suddenly available. The speaker claims in this poem that getting and spending, (line 2) has caused mankind to lay waste [its] powers (2), which is a condemnation of the materialistic focus people were beginning to develop in the early 1800s. According to them, the obsession with acquisition of consumerist products has caused humanity to relinquish its relationship with nature; consider a line further along in the poem, in which they say We have given our hearts away (4). In this statement, they make it clear that they view the rapport s disappearance as a loss, even referring to the material comforts as only a sordid boon! (4), and therefore not worth what mankind has given up to obtain them. The opening words of the poem are a reference to this idea: The world is too much with us (1) means that the general population has become a burden on the Earth, unable to connect to or appreciate it distracted as they are by consumerism, and the rest of the poem goes about proving that this is a negative ... Offshore oil drilling is the process of drilling into the earth and pulling up petroleum, a natural fuel source made of decomposed organisms. While there are many positive effects, there are too many negative ones for oil drilling to continue. Offshore oil drilling is too dangerous to be considered safe for use in the ecosystem. Not only is it too dangerous, oil rigs are made in an environment many would deem too hazardous for settling any type of structure. Oil drilling kills many people each year and pollutes the marine environment, killing the oceans natural inhabitants. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nature is unpredictable and one cannot prepare for every outcome. While nature is a big factor in well breaches, one main factor is the oil companies lack of restrictions. This is demonstrated in National Environmental Health Association Position on Offshore Oil Drilling , where the author states: An ABC News review of federal records shows that in spite of chronic safety violations, MMS... In a majority of cases in which workers were killed, there was no record of fines paid. When fines were imposed, the maximum penalty was only $25,000 (5). This quote shows how much the oil companies are allowed to get away with. If this were to happen in any other industry, they would have been arrested and forced to pay millions of dollars in fines, but not when it comes to oil because of how much revenue it brings in. The amalgam of these three facts shows the dangers of oil drilling in the extreme environments that oil is found in. In addition, offshore oil drilling causes water pollution and disrupts the marine ecosystem. The similarities and differences will be how the family never gives Rikki Tikki a name, How the snake keeps his story, and Rikki Tikki acts in the bathroom with Nag. To begin in the Movie Rikki Tikki is given the name by the son (Teddy) unlike the Book. In the movie after finding him, they take him back to the house and warmed him up, then the boy decided to call him Rikki Tikki. But in the book (Kipling pg 144) there is no such scene, all he does is go around the house and gets fed. Throughout the whole book there is no mention of the family saying his name. Even after Nag sneaks in the washroom the book just says It s the mongoose again, Alice; the little chap has saved our lives now. (Kipling Pg 151). This is also shown in the movie word for word, but the only parts in which they say the name Rikki Tikki is the parts they added, for instance, right after killing Nag the mother in the movie says Oh, Rikki you are so brave and beautiful . Then is the story (Kipling Pg 151) it says Then Teddy s mother came in with a very white face and saw what was left of Nag, and Rikki tikki dragged himself to Teddy s bedroom and spent half the rest of the night shaking himself tenderly to find out whether he really was broken into forty pieces, as he fancied. no word even relating to Rikki being brave or beautiful.
