Examples Of Foreshadowing In A Prayer For Owen Meany
BOOM! The grenade detonates, a shattering ringing lingers in the air. Owen is lying in the sink,
mutilated and bleeding to death. This is the end of Owen s miraculous life, and a realization of faith
for John. But, how has John Irving led the readers of A Prayer for Owen Meany to this point? Through
his utilization of foreshadowing, the theme of faith, and symbolism, Irving details Owen s Messiah
like life and takes the readers from the boys childhood adventures, all the way to Owen s heroic death.
Irving traces all the trials and tribulations the two boys undergo as they seek to understand their past
and future, growing up in Gravesend, New Hampshire. Irving uses foreshadowing frequently during
the novel, and often to signal an upcoming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The symbols and motifs are the tools for foreshadowing, and the development of faith. They develop
characters, scenes, and the setting. One of the most important motifs throughout the novel is armless
ness. In due course, Johnny learns from Owen that the aforementioned armadillo was declawed
because, GOD HAS TAKEN YOUR MOTHER. MY HANDS WERE THE INSTRUMENT. GOD
HAS TAKEN MY HANDS. I AM GOD S INSTRUMENT (87). Additionally, Owen removes the
limbs from the Mary Magdalene statue, and Tabitha s dressmaker dummy has never had limbs. All the
armless ness combines to foreshadow the final armless thing: Owen. Owen dies armless; therefore,
John Irving utilizes armless ness to foreshadow his death. However, this isn t all the armless motif
represents. The armless symbols don t seem to just foreshadow Owen s fate; they also show how
everything that happens to him is intertwined in some way that makes the reader believe that his death
is scripted and inevitable. For example, Mary Magdalene can be likened to Tabitha. Mary was
considered a prostitute, albeit, still a good person. Tabitha has a kid with a mystery man and is still
known as a sweet and respectable woman. The comparison may be why Owen removes not only the
arms from the Mary Magdalene statue, but also the head; after all, he killed Tabitha by hitting her head
with a foul ball. Additionally, the images of figures without arms

Discuss The Advantages Of The North And South In The Civil...
The North and South both had many advantages in the civil war. The North had more advantages
which was a main reason that led to them winning the war. The North had a population of 22 million
and the South had a population of 5.5 million. The North Had a very large advantage in population.
Perhaps the North s biggest advantage was their network of roads, canals, and railroads. The North
had 22,000 miles of railroad track to move soldiers and supplies through the north. The South only
had 9,000 miles of track. The war improved the north s economy. The production of goods such as
coal, iron, wheat, and wool increased. For the north, exports to Europe doubled. In the South exports
decreased because of the Union blockade. The Union had money with a more developed economy,
banking system, and currency called greenbacks (Deverell White 513). The South had to start printing
its own money. Some states printed their own money, which led to financial chaos. Finally, the Union
took advantages of its strengths. Union general ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The south had better generals that had experience in the mexican war with a strong military tradition
and were educated at military schools. The Confederacy was more motivated than the north because
they were fighting to keep their way of life and what they believed in. The South had many farms that
provided food for soldiers so they never ran out of food. The Confederate soldiers had more
experience with guns and horses because they lived in rural areas. The South s best advantage was
their strategy. It only had to defend itself until the north grew tired of fighting. The south was fighting
on their own soil that they were familiar with. It caused the north to travel large distances, which made
them have to maintain long supply lines. The geography helped the south because of the wilderness
and rivers in the south made it hard for union to travel. The south also hoped to wear down the north
and capture Washington

Analysis Of The Ten Commandments By Dennis Prager
The Ten Commandments by Dennis Prager is one of the most influential series I have viewed. These
videos have strengthened my faith and deepened my understanding of the Ten Commandments. More
specifically, the presentation on the Fourth Commandment struck me. Mr. Prager states that this
Commandment is world binding. This rule from God upholds the fact that there is a loving and caring
God. The Fourth Commandment provides people time to bond with friends and family, and rest from
work. God loves every creature as well, which He demonstrates by including them in this
commandment. Anyone who keeps the Sabbath affirms they believe that there is a real God. I am part
of a typical Christian family. We have numerous Bibles around the house that

Speed Limits And Speed Limit Setting Practices
Contrary to popular belief, slower speed limits that are set by politicians that have no knowledge of
road engineering, and don t listen to city engineers, creates a dangerous environment were drivers are
more likely to speed and create risk. Around two months ago, the Victoria council unanimously
approved of the proposal to lower speed limits on many active streets such as Cook Street, Blanchard
Street, Richmond Street, as well as many others. However, these changes have been opposed by the
city engineers and seem to go against the ministry of transportations Review and Analysis of Posted
Speed Limits and Speed Limit Setting Practices in British Columbia . In addition, research in the
United States has shown an increase in speed limits, where appropriate, reduces speeding and does not
increase the amount of crashes. Furthermore, on the case of highways, if we take examples from
Germany s autobahn fatality rate and contrast it with our highway we see a dramatic difference.
Moreover, instead of spending money and replacing the signs entirely, our city should instead deposit
more money is road safety equipment. Our politicians should listen more to the professionals, city
engineers, rather than making absurd speed limits that do not reflect the speeds that drivers deem
acceptable. In 2014, the Victoria city council decided to lower speed limits on streets in the downtown
core, some notable mentions being Quadra Street, Richmond, and many others. These streets are being

Asian American Case Study Essay
Asian Americans are diverse in terms of English proficiency, health needs and cultural identity. There
are some other factors, such as knowledge and beliefs regarding causes of disease, modes of
treatment, and value of prevention, which often delay Asian Americans from seeking out or obtaining
quality healthcare.
Asian Americans are often limited with English proficiency and a poor understanding of the intricate
American health care system. Members of the community may not know the right questions to ask or
even whom to ask and may lack a clear understanding of how to assess their problems in their new
cultural context.
Asian Americans, especially the older generation have etiquettes that are very important to them when
it comes to respect. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Physicians.
I found case studies written from a Physician, but no resolution was written about the cases. (Alan

Analysis Of People Like Us
Conforming to the Pack In the essay People Like Us by David Brooks, Brooks talks about the societal
division of people. This division is often unintentional, such as the making of communities through
the real estate market. Buying and selling homes in order to try and get into a new neighborhood with
similar ideals or beliefs. On the other hand Brooks describes that people try to be different from
others. Such as the different lifestyles of the two very different political parties. We are indeed
profoundly different, but is that really such a bad thing. Often in his essay, Brooks makes references to
how individuals separate and divide themselves. We often think when we divide ourselves up it is
intentional; that we do it because we are avoiding controversy. Brooks mentions that there are
sometimes we as humans separate ourselves unintentionally, like buying homes in new developments
(1). We often don t know what the neighborhood will be like, so we rely heavily on the characteristics
that the few people living there share. Age of adults, age of kids if there is any, and what does the
community believe in; this is called housing discrimination. It begs the question, why does it matter if
people try and form to a certain community. It is our natural tendency to try and align ourselves with a
community that we share a common passion or belief with. We can t just assume that everyone will be
happier if we never created any clique type communities. People are attracted to

Prejudice In Australian Society Essay
As Australians we live in an abundantly multicultural society. Walk out into a public area and you ll be
surrounded by faces all from a vast array of many different ethnic backgrounds. It is perceived by
many of us that Australia as a nation is fairly accepting of racial difference and people from other
backgrounds. But much of the evidence seated clearly before us points to an entirely different
consensus. As human beings not one of us is born with prejudice or hate in our hearts. These values
are taught to us by our upbringing and experiences within the society we live in. Hate and prejudices
are instilled upon us by what we are accustomed to and our experience, but most often, what we are
told. And the grueling truth in todays society is that the single most abundantly influential source of
our knowledge and understanding of the world; the media; is the very basis of the underlying
prejudice and hateful bias and bigotry we almost ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have little doubt that the vast majority of the Australian public does retain invariably good intentions
when it comes to the moral issue of discrimination; but sometimes, just to mean well just doesn t cut
it. Racist attitudes and beliefs are misconceptions about people based on perceived racial lines and are
often founded on the fear of difference, including differences in customs, values, religion, physical
appearance and ways of living and viewing the world. This includes negative attitudes towards the use
of different languages, foreign accents or the use of non standard variations of a dominant community
language. An explicit attitude is an attitude that the person can express and stand by, and which they
assert as theirs. But explicit attitudes are not the only kind of attitudes there are. We also have implicit
attitudes, and our implicit attitudes may also or instead be the source of

Analysis Of Wilmington Global Realty Inc.
Introduction
Wilmington Global Realty, Inc. has held a constant leading presence in the international real estate
market. At this point, it is crucial to continue looking for viable market options in which to expand;
Jakarta, Indonesia may be one such option. As the capital of Indonesia, Jakarta has experienced an
economic upturn in the past decade. Their new presence in the global market has peaked interests in
several firms ̶ this one included. While this interest may appear to make Jakarta a favorable
opportunity for expansion, the area is not without barriers. Generally accepted business practices in
Indonesia, specifically Jakarta, appear typical of other Southeast Asian countries. Individual ethnic
and religious populace is marginally more diverse in relation to surrounding areas, with predominant
backgrounds accounting for a considerable portion of corporate decorum. Research from agencies to
include the Central Intelligence Agency, the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta, national news media, and
doctoral proposals corroborate all inferences. By utilizing these resources, and based on the three
examined topics of communication, business and social interaction, and common business protocol, a
final recommendation on expansion practicality will be articulated.
Communication and Language Correct use of language and communicative techniques is vital when
interacting with Jakarta residents. Understanding both verbal and non verbal indicators may
potentially ease any difficulties

intelligence among those it is addressed to, consequently, the greater the mass it is intended to reach,

On them depends the existence of this whole culture; if they perish, the beauty of this earth will sink
into the grave with them (288). Hitler was attempting to convey to the German people that their race
and culture was superior to all others and that Aryans were invincible. Hitler wanted to create a sense
of pride, unity and stability among the people because stability was not a very strong factor among the
masses who felt they had nothing to lose. Therefore, Hitler called his political cause quot;the
movement quot;.
Movement was, indeed, one of the mythic messages, movement away from the state of stagnation of
the Weimar Republic, as the Nazis emphasized it repeatedly to persuade the masses, away from the
shameful dictate of the Versailles peace treaty, away from true blood sucking parasites, Jews, (304)
and forward towards the building of a quot;New Pure Germany quot; who would be a power to reckon
with throughout Europe and the World at large.
Although Hitler lacked his own characteristics of being a true Aryan (blond haired and blue eyed
individual), he represented all of Germany as an ultimate ruler eliminating all other potential
authorities that could possibly compete with him, just as a self evident mythology cannot tolerate
other powers, which might challenge and lead to the dissolution of the mythic system.

Examples Of Evil In To Kill A Mockingbird
People can experience evil without becoming evil by ignoring it, not caring what others think about
them and overcoming evil with good. There is a lot of evil in the world and people have to do the best
they can to experience evil without becoming evil.
One can experience evil without becoming evil by ignoring it. People normally do evil things to get a
reaction if they do not get a reaction they will most likely stop. It is also proven that people who
ignore other people s rude remarks are more mentally healthy than those who respond to rude remarks.
Researchers at Baruch College studied about 120 people by putting them in a room and having them
engage in a conversation with a highly offensive person. After they were done they had to perform a
second task which when completed included a performance score. People who ignored the offensive
person were known to have a higher performance level. Also in the book To Kill a Mockingbird,
Atticus was threatened by Walter Cunningham and he ignored Walter s remarks and he didn t become
evil. All Atticus said was, You can turn around and go home again, Walter, (Lee p201.) These are some

Two Theories Of Motivation In Tesco
Motivation is set unique techniques that a trade undertakes to invigorate their employees to put off
their nice effort in work so far as the company is concerned. This advantages the company as it raises
the output of the products as a result of the multiplied difficulty took by the employees. Moreover to
this, it enables the company to arrive high phases of output which also results in the fact that, they are
additionally reluctant to take unnecessary days off from work. The two theories of motivation are
Abraham Maslow s conception of needs and Frederick Herzberg s Two Theory idea.
Abraham Maslow has argued that human beings are motivated by utilizing five principal needs as
tested within the Maslow s suggestion of needs. He formed a pyramid demonstrating these wishes
which he referred to as the hierarchy of needs . On the bottom of the pyramid are general needs, men,
and women who inspire men and women to work, food and shelter. As soon as those wants are met by

Reflection On The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum
I have attended the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of Arts for my cultural event essay, on
Wednesday November 18, 2015. Attending this museum is considered a cultural event since it
provides you with the opportunity to learn about the different styles of artworks of different time
periods. This museum contained many works that are influenced by classicism which is a style of
historical tradition or aesthetic attitudes based on the art of Greece and Rome ( Classicism and
Neoclassicism ). One particular piece of art that drew upon my attention was the leaded glass window
of the Aurora, the Roman goddess of dawn created by Louis Comfort Tiffany, an American artist and
designer of the 19th century ( The Charles Hosmer ). The window was created based upon the original
painting of the Aurora by Will H. Low, a muralist designer for Tiffany ( Biography ). The Aurora is
influenced by the roots of western civilization by visual characteristics such as her contrapposto
stance. I believe that this art is trying to communicate how Aurora is preparing to renew herself in the
water to carry out her duties as a goddess. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tiffany used a technique known as plating, which is placing pieces of glass on top of one another to

to appear through thus allowing the concept of early morning to be displayed in the artwork. Roman
mythology also states that her energy represents new hope and renewal that each day brings (Dawn

The Arctic Of The Antarctic Circle
Any point north of the Arctic Circle or south of the Antarctic Circle will have one period in the
summer when the sun does not set, and one period in the winter when the sun does not rise. At
progressively higher latitudes, the maximum periods of midnight sun and polar night are progressively
longer. For example, at the military and weather station Alert located at 82°30′05″N and 62°20′20″W,
on the northern tip of Ellesmere Island, Canada (about 450 nautical miles or 830 km from the North
Pole), the sun begins to peek above the horizon for minutes per day at the end of February and each
day it climbs higher and stays up longer; by 21 March, the sun is up for over 12 hours. On 6 April the
sun rises at 0522 UTC and remains above the horizon until it sets below the horizon again on 6
September at 0335 UTC. By October 13 the sun is above the horizon for only 1 hour 30 minutes and
on October 14 it does not rise above the horizon at all and remains below the horizon until it rises
again on 27 February.[17] First light comes in late January because the sky has twilight, being a glow
on the horizon, for increasing hours each day, for more than a month before the sun first appears with
its disc above the horizon. From mid November to mid January, there is no twilight. In the weeks
surrounding 21 June, in the northern polar region, the sun is at its highest elevation, appearing to circle
the sky there without going below the horizon. Eventually, it does go below the horizon,

Visual Merchandising in Retail
Visual Merchandising in Retail For this assignment I have been asked to describe how visual
merchandising is applied to the three selected retail outlets to an identified range of goods. Store one
Tesco Merchandising techniques In Tesco the merchandising techniques they use are: Senses. A
supermarket like Tesco would use this technique to try and bring more customers into the store by
using smell, sight, sound and taste. They would play music to try and attract people into the store, and
they would also have staff at the front of the store offering free samples to customers to try to try and

This technique influences customers to buy the products as they are usually by the tills and are
sometimes on special offer. Sales and discounts: Tesco uses this technique because it will influence
more people buy the product as it is cheaper. This is very appealing for the customer as it provides a
quick route for those who are shopping for bargains. This also keeps the customers looking at different
parts of the store as this link leads to the display of many of their products. Sales and discounts can
encourage so called trial and repeat purchases. Retailers can use special offers such as buy one get one
offers. Coupons are another way to encourage purchases by offering discounts on products. Free gifts
with purchase also encourage customers to purchase products and increase sales. Sales whether
advertised in the store, online, in newspapers or via some other medium will help get customers into
the store. Retailers can place sales signs in window displays as an incentive for customers to shop.

IMPROVEMENT AND RENOVATION OF EXISTING PUBLIC SCHOOL FACILITIES
Introduction The quality and condition of existing public school facilities have been a topic of
growing concern among educators across the country. Each year, the cost of maintenance, and
improvement and renovation needed to maintain public schools continues to increase (Earthman,
1994). National studies conducted during the last fifteen years clearly indicate rising costs. In 1983, a
random survey of school administrators in thirty three states and the District of Columbia was
undertaken by the American Association of School ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
School board members are responsible for policy and budget decisions that determine the level of
support for facility maintenance, and improvement and renovation. Their decisions clearly affect the
quality and condition of the schools in their districts. These decisions are made in conjunction with
competing demands for limited fiscal resources needed to address all school issues. School board
members are instrumental in maintaining the quality and condition of the public schools in a
responsible and timely manner. Grover, State Superintendent of Wisconsin, said it this way (EWA,
1989): The state has been spending more money to provide safe housing for its 5,600 prisoners than it
has for its 760,000 school children. We build golf courses and jails by fiat, but we put our children in
storefronts and church basements. . . . That says a lot about what s wrong with America. (p. 2)
Ambach, Executive Director of The Council of Chief State School Officers, was quoted in the
Schoolhouse In The Red study (AASA, 1992): If national goals for student performance are to be met,
our students must have learning environments that support high productivity. Investments in high tech
plants and overcoming the neglect of maintenance is essential for a 21st century opportunity to learn
for every student in America. (p.7) Finally, an interview in the February 1997 American School and
University Journal included comments from Hawkins,

in the movie so I wouldn t recommend it for younger kids and it shows how guys talked back then.
Lennie s voice is a little annoying but he is also playing the character because is not smart and he has

Speech On Circus Animals
A tiger jumping through a ring of fire. An elephant standing on his head. Classic circus animal tricks.
The sea of laughing children shriek with delight as each animal performs more and more astounding
acts. What if I told you that Nala the tiger is starved, beaten, tortured into submission? What if I told
you that every night, Freddy the elephant is chained in a metal cage, his sanity slipping into the
darkness? Would you be laughing then?
Good morning parents and teachers and welcome to the 2017 School Ethics Forum. Today I will focus
on two compelling ethical reason why the horrific treatment of animals in circuses is morally
repulsive. One, circus animals suffer fatal injuries during training. Two, the unnatural restrictions of
circus life have a devastating impact on the animals mental health.
Firstly, the fatal injuries inflicted on animals in circuses is a direct violation of the ethical principle of
harm. Starvation, whips, muzzles, bull hooks, electric pods. These torture devices favoured by circus
animal trainers inflict pain and instill terror in innocent animals until they unquestioningly obey every
single command. Simple and effective, and cruel, evil and sadistic. How can a trainer listen to
harrowing screams of excruciating pain and continue to whip the animal again and again? What kind
of heartless monster can watch the soul, the very life drain from a living being and not stop? At every
show, Nala the tiger leaps through a ring of fire. Tigers naturally

Evidence-Based Training for Physical Therapists
Strategies to facilitate the implementation of evidence based physical therapy should emphasis on
amending the barriers known in previous studies and confirmed in the future study. Certain solutions
may be easy, such as improving access to journals, providing easily understandable summaries and
training therapists in searching and appraisal (Iles Davidson 2006).
A current systematic review (Coomarasamy Khan 2005) recommends that clinically integrated
evidence based practice training is more effective than training alone. Education should be designed
towards proficient use of online resources, aiming sources of pre appraised literature (Iles Davidson
2006).
Physical therapists must regularly involve in self reflection and appraisal to be clear about the nature
and contribution of their expertise and decisions. This practice encompasses an acknowledgement of
practice preferences and behaviors that have developed throughout the years, knowledge gaps that
benefited from further training or education, enable the changing barriers in their approach to client
management (Jewell 2011). For the moment, evidence must be located and evaluated and its findings
interpreted into expressive information that all spouses in the decision making process can appreciate
(American Physical Therapy Association 2001). This incorporation process may be emphasizing
minimized bias on high quality evidence. Subsequently, both clinicians and clients increase the
subjectivity in their decision

Rupert Murdoch s War On Journalism
In the documentary Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch s War On Journalism , Fox News began as a
seemingly innocent, right winged, news channel, with the slogan We Report. You Decide. However, as
time moved on from the first airing of the news channel, it was as if Fox had followed a more biased
and corrupted route than what had been proposed. It primarily discusses how Fox News, and perhaps
other popular media news outlets, have begun to actively misinform their viewers for personal or
business gain. Originally, Rupert Murdoch, a news corporation CEO, was deemed as the overall
instructor of what was to be represented on the Fox outlet. However, at the time of his ownership, the
news outlet was said to have had zero news value. Therefore, as Roger Ailes, a former media strategist
for several Republican presidential campaigns, joined, and inevitably took over the channel, Fox
News began to evolve into something called fair and balanced news reporting. Unfortunately, fair and
balanced was far from the truth. In fact, after several examinations performed by both journalists and
former Fox News contributors, it was discovered Fox News had been continuously using sinister
tricks, such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the common law tort of negligence. Chico s case Issue Whether employers X, Y and Z are liable in
negligence for Chico s injury because they exposed him to asbestos. Relevant Law Causation
Fairchild Barker Compensation Act 2006 s.3 Application In most cases the but for test is the method
used for establishing factual causation. But for the defendant s wrongdoing, the claimant would not
have suffered damage. However, causation becomes problematic when more than one cause arises,
since the onus is upon the claimant to establish which party caused their injury or loss. The material
elements test is crucial to cases relating to mesothelioma. A claimant suffering injury must
demonstrate on the balance of probabilities that the defendant s tort caused the injury or loss. The
claimant must then demonstrate that there is more than a fifty percent likelihood of the cause being the
breach of duty of the defendant. If there are multiple causes then the burden of proof is impossible to
discharge. This has often left claimants uncompensated for an obvious breach of duty. In Fairchild the
House of Lords recognised that in situations wherein the claimant had been exposed to asbestos at

through the thoughts and worries of the people. Martin Luther King Jr believes that people of colors

Differences Between The Northern Colonies And Southern...
Life in the North American colonies was great at one point. At first we liked having protection and
assistance from the British. After a while, we Patriots yearned for more freedom. The British had too
many rules and controlled a lot of aspects of our lives, including the trading of goods. To add, even
though we were across the pond, they were telling us where to live. Us Patriots were forced to provide
housing to the British soldiers. Although we appreciated the help, we did not want them taking over
our new found land. The British provided sources of entertainment and ways to see information like
newspapers and other forms of entertainment, but charged us a hefty amount. Many of us wanted to
complain but we were not allowed to have a seat on the British Parliament. Without this, we have no
way of communicating our problems. How could the British tax us without having someone to
represent us? We were being taxed without representation and we were tired of it! The British had
taken off all the taxes except tea, and that was not enough. With no fair ruling, we took matters into
our own hands and dumped the tea into the Boston Harbor. Things were different in Southern colonies
compared to the Northern colonies. The reason for settlement in the North was to have freedom of
religion. In the South, people wanted financial gain stemming from agriculture. Though they are
known for cotton, tobacco was the main staple crop of the South. Although the North colonies also

Stress Management For The Busy Entrepreneur
Stress Management For The Busy Entrepreneur
Being an entrepreneur may have driven you out of your home and probably has caused
misunderstandings and miscommunication between you and your family. While you may be too
focused on making your business to become successful, you are losing your family and friends, and
even yourself. Entrepreneurs have a huge burden to carry once they start putting up the business
because it can demand so much time and energy that could drain them eventually. Any startup
business will require long hours of work to the point of even bringing home some of the tasks for the
day.
An entrepreneur is expected to be hardworking, brave and intelligent. After all, if one has a weak heart
in facing all the trials in a business, then the business will never succeed. But sometimes, having to
deal with the same things over and over can just make your brain shut down from functioning
properly, thus, you lose the ability to solve problems, to rationally think and to make decisions. When
this happens, it will be difficult for you to see how things really are. Does it sound familiar?
Work related stress is costing the economy a huge amount of money in a year where there is an
increase in the number of deaths each year due to workplace stress. Such health conditions are a heart
attack, stroke, diabetes, anxiety, and depression. Should people work to live or live to work?

The Pros And Cons Of The Alberta Oil Sands

stability. The issue is that all good things have a bad side as well. Some main disadvantages to the oil
sands is that natural habitats get destroyed, creates greenhouse gas emissions which are harmful to
humans and the environment and the issue of is it more environmentally friendly to use another source

Some pros of the oils sands are they made Canada the biggest supplier of oil to the US which allowed
for the beginning of a fruitful economic partnership. The oil sands are also a stable source of energy
due to the oil sands being the second largest site in the world. Alberta has flourished due to the oils
sands which creates thousands of jobs for locals. On the downside there are also cons to every project.
Some disadvantages to the oils sands are since the oil is so deep underground; the process of
extraction is very carbon intense which creates more greenhouse gas. Thousands of bird species have a
loss of their breeding grounds due to the fact that the mining operation is located where the breeding
ground used to be. As of right now and our rate of consumption of oil we have approximately only 40
years worth of oil left. Some people say that we rely on the oils sands too much and eventually we will
have to find a new source of energy. I say, for now it s fair to say that we will have an issue in the
future about energy but for as of now it is not a huge problem. In my opinion, the pros outweigh the
cons on the sole fact that we have this resource at our disposal and we might as well take advantage of
what God has given us. From what I understand is that we are also reconstructing the landscape once
we are finished with the sites so the native species will be able to inhabit the area once

Where were you born, grow up and did your study? I was born in Netherlands and live with my family

What are your hobbies in childhood? What are the family situations in you grow up?
In childhood I took painting lessons, played the violin and studied ballet seriously until I was sixteen.
However my initial passion lied in dance because my mother was a dancer. My father worked as an
advisor to a governmental water agency. There was no television in my house in fact I don t have a

What made you decide to pursue a career in fashion?
Well, when I began my education journey at Artez, I become predominately interested in designing

  • 2. Examples Of Foreshadowing In A Prayer For Owen Meany BOOM! The grenade detonates, a shattering ringing lingers in the air. Owen is lying in the sink, mutilated and bleeding to death. This is the end of Owen s miraculous life, and a realization of faith for John. But, how has John Irving led the readers of A Prayer for Owen Meany to this point? Through his utilization of foreshadowing, the theme of faith, and symbolism, Irving details Owen s Messiah like life and takes the readers from the boys childhood adventures, all the way to Owen s heroic death. Irving traces all the trials and tribulations the two boys undergo as they seek to understand their past and future, growing up in Gravesend, New Hampshire. Irving uses foreshadowing frequently during the novel, and often to signal an upcoming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The symbols and motifs are the tools for foreshadowing, and the development of faith. They develop characters, scenes, and the setting. One of the most important motifs throughout the novel is armless ness. In due course, Johnny learns from Owen that the aforementioned armadillo was declawed because, GOD HAS TAKEN YOUR MOTHER. MY HANDS WERE THE INSTRUMENT. GOD HAS TAKEN MY HANDS. I AM GOD S INSTRUMENT (87). Additionally, Owen removes the limbs from the Mary Magdalene statue, and Tabitha s dressmaker dummy has never had limbs. All the armless ness combines to foreshadow the final armless thing: Owen. Owen dies armless; therefore, John Irving utilizes armless ness to foreshadow his death. However, this isn t all the armless motif represents. The armless symbols don t seem to just foreshadow Owen s fate; they also show how everything that happens to him is intertwined in some way that makes the reader believe that his death is scripted and inevitable. For example, Mary Magdalene can be likened to Tabitha. Mary was considered a prostitute, albeit, still a good person. Tabitha has a kid with a mystery man and is still known as a sweet and respectable woman. The comparison may be why Owen removes not only the arms from the Mary Magdalene statue, but also the head; after all, he killed Tabitha by hitting her head with a foul ball. Additionally, the images of figures without arms ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Discuss The Advantages Of The North And South In The Civil... The North and South both had many advantages in the civil war. The North had more advantages which was a main reason that led to them winning the war. The North had a population of 22 million and the South had a population of 5.5 million. The North Had a very large advantage in population. Perhaps the North s biggest advantage was their network of roads, canals, and railroads. The North had 22,000 miles of railroad track to move soldiers and supplies through the north. The South only had 9,000 miles of track. The war improved the north s economy. The production of goods such as coal, iron, wheat, and wool increased. For the north, exports to Europe doubled. In the South exports decreased because of the Union blockade. The Union had money with a more developed economy, banking system, and currency called greenbacks (Deverell White 513). The South had to start printing its own money. Some states printed their own money, which led to financial chaos. Finally, the Union took advantages of its strengths. Union general ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The south had better generals that had experience in the mexican war with a strong military tradition and were educated at military schools. The Confederacy was more motivated than the north because they were fighting to keep their way of life and what they believed in. The South had many farms that provided food for soldiers so they never ran out of food. The Confederate soldiers had more experience with guns and horses because they lived in rural areas. The South s best advantage was their strategy. It only had to defend itself until the north grew tired of fighting. The south was fighting on their own soil that they were familiar with. It caused the north to travel large distances, which made them have to maintain long supply lines. The geography helped the south because of the wilderness and rivers in the south made it hard for union to travel. The south also hoped to wear down the north and capture Washington ... • 4. Analysis Of The Ten Commandments By Dennis Prager The Ten Commandments by Dennis Prager is one of the most influential series I have viewed. These videos have strengthened my faith and deepened my understanding of the Ten Commandments. More specifically, the presentation on the Fourth Commandment struck me. Mr. Prager states that this Commandment is world binding. This rule from God upholds the fact that there is a loving and caring God. The Fourth Commandment provides people time to bond with friends and family, and rest from work. God loves every creature as well, which He demonstrates by including them in this commandment. Anyone who keeps the Sabbath affirms they believe that there is a real God. I am part of a typical Christian family. We have numerous Bibles around the house that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Speed Limits And Speed Limit Setting Practices Contrary to popular belief, slower speed limits that are set by politicians that have no knowledge of road engineering, and don t listen to city engineers, creates a dangerous environment were drivers are more likely to speed and create risk. Around two months ago, the Victoria council unanimously approved of the proposal to lower speed limits on many active streets such as Cook Street, Blanchard Street, Richmond Street, as well as many others. However, these changes have been opposed by the city engineers and seem to go against the ministry of transportations Review and Analysis of Posted Speed Limits and Speed Limit Setting Practices in British Columbia . In addition, research in the United States has shown an increase in speed limits, where appropriate, reduces speeding and does not increase the amount of crashes. Furthermore, on the case of highways, if we take examples from Germany s autobahn fatality rate and contrast it with our highway we see a dramatic difference. Moreover, instead of spending money and replacing the signs entirely, our city should instead deposit more money is road safety equipment. Our politicians should listen more to the professionals, city engineers, rather than making absurd speed limits that do not reflect the speeds that drivers deem acceptable. This division is often unintentional, such as the making of communities through the real estate market. Buying and selling homes in order to try and get into a new neighborhood with similar ideals or beliefs. On the other hand Brooks describes that people try to be different from others. Such as the different lifestyles of the two very different political parties. We are indeed profoundly different, but is that really such a bad thing. Often in his essay, Brooks makes references to how individuals separate and divide themselves. We often think when we divide ourselves up it is intentional; that we do it because we are avoiding controversy. Brooks mentions that there are sometimes we as humans separate ourselves unintentionally, like buying homes in new developments (1). We often don t know what the neighborhood will be like, so we rely heavily on the characteristics that the few people living there share. Age of adults, age of kids if there is any, and what does the community believe in; this is called housing discrimination. It begs the question, why does it matter if people try and form to a certain community. It is our natural tendency to try and align ourselves with a community that we share a common passion or belief with. This museum contained many works that are influenced by classicism which is a style of historical tradition or aesthetic attitudes based on the art of Greece and Rome ( Classicism and Neoclassicism ). One particular piece of art that drew upon my attention was the leaded glass window of the Aurora, the Roman goddess of dawn created by Louis Comfort Tiffany, an American artist and designer of the 19th century ( The Charles Hosmer ). The window was created based upon the original painting of the Aurora by Will H. Low, a muralist designer for Tiffany ( Biography ). ASSESSMENT A: Problem Question Introduction I will advise each subsequent claimant with regards to any actions they might have when focusing on issues of causation and remoteness within the common law tort of negligence. Chico s case Issue Whether employers X, Y and Z are liable in negligence for Chico s injury because they exposed him to asbestos. Relevant Law Causation Fairchild Barker Compensation Act 2006 s.3 Application In most cases the but for test is the method used for establishing factual causation. But for the defendant s wrongdoing, the claimant would not have suffered damage. However, causation becomes problematic when more than one cause arises, since the onus is upon the claimant to establish which party caused their injury or loss. The material elements test is crucial to cases relating to mesothelioma. A claimant suffering injury must demonstrate on the balance of probabilities that the defendant s tort caused the injury or loss. The claimant must then demonstrate that there is more than a fifty percent likelihood of the cause being the breach of duty of the defendant. If there are multiple causes then the burden of proof is impossible to discharge. This has often left claimants uncompensated for an obvious breach of duty. In Fairchild the House of Lords recognised that in situations wherein the claimant had been exposed to asbestos at different times whilst working for different employers, it was impossible to satisfy the conventional but for ... After a while, we Patriots yearned for more freedom. The British had too many rules and controlled a lot of aspects of our lives, including the trading of goods. To add, even though we were across the pond, they were telling us where to live. Us Patriots were forced to provide housing to the British soldiers. Although we appreciated the help, we did not want them taking over our new found land. The British provided sources of entertainment and ways to see information like newspapers and other forms of entertainment, but charged us a hefty amount. Many of us wanted to complain but we were not allowed to have a seat on the British Parliament. Without this, we have no way of communicating our problems. How could the British tax us without having someone to represent us? We were being taxed without representation and we were tired of it! The British had taken off all the taxes except tea, and that was not enough. With no fair ruling, we took matters into our own hands and dumped the tea into the Boston Harbor. Things were different in Southern colonies compared to the Northern colonies. The reason for settlement in the North was to have freedom of religion. In the South, people wanted financial gain stemming from agriculture. Though they are known for cotton, tobacco was the main staple crop of the South. Although the North colonies also wanted ...
