Effects Of Free College Tuition
Introducing free college tuition would have a positive impact of The United States, even so much as
two year associate s degree would have a hung impact. Free college tuition would give hope to the
families which can t afford the cost of tuition. Fran Cubberley states in his paper The reality of Free
Community College Tuition that 1,300 students who completed our entry process through course
registration ultimately dropped out before classes were underway. One of the major reasons was they
could not pay their tuition. Cost for tuition is huge factor on why people don t attend college. Just
think of all the amazing talent that the world is missing out on because people don t have the money to
attend college and get a degree or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They go on to state that The average cost for tuition and fees for a four year private college averaged
$19,710 that s a hung number to worry about on up of everything else a college student has to worry
about. There s a lot time that is devoted into studying and getting good grades which in return doesn t
leave a whole lot of time which can be devoted to work. The average time a student should study is
about two hours per week for each credit hour taken. For example if the student has 15 credit hours
that same student should expect to study for at least 30 hours per week which is practically equal to
another full time job.
In the United States there are already a few different states that are offering free college tuition. Those
states being, Rhode Island, Tennessee, San Francisco, New York, Oregon and a few others. Let s focus
on the state of San Francisco a little more. In the article San Francisco will offer free college tuition to
residents Amanda Hoover states, Mayor Ed Lee announced an agreement to budget $5.4 million in
tuition for the college Monday. Officials say that will cover tuition for current students and allow the
school to expand enrollment by 20 percent. Low income students who qualify will also see the cost of
their books covered in small grants. This will give hope to those which don t have enough money to

Bourne Trilogy Research Paper
The Bourne Trilogy The Bourne Trilogy is a series of three different movies, The Bourne Identity, the
Bourne Supremacy and the Bourne Ultimatum, directed and produced by several people. I will be
writing this description on all three movies in the trilogy. The Bourne Identity The Mediterranean Sea
had a raging storm stirring up, when a commercial fishing ship came to spot a drifting body among the
waves. This mysterious man had taken two gunshot wounds, and the ship s cook and skipper took care
of him. The cook later located a strange laser type light in the patient s hip, which when projected; it
displayed a bank number for a safe deposit box in Zurich. Once the man recovered, he was diagnosed
with amnesia, and was unable to remember anything prior to when he awoke on the ship. Even though
he was suffering from amnesia, he was still able to speak many languages, read, and write. Once the
ship reached Zurich, the unknown man set out to find the safe deposit box. In Langley, Virginia, CIA
Deputy Director Ward Abbott discovered that Treadstone, a secret CIA assassin organization,
attempted to assassinate an African dictator named Nykwana Wombosi on his cruise boat in the
Mediterranean Sea and was unaccomplished. However the CIA op mission was supposed to be ...

Use Of Diction In The Celebrated Jumping Frog Of Calaveras...
In the story The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County by Mark Twain, the use of diction
provides differences upon the certain class of characters. The text consist of three characters as the
narrator looks for someone known as Smiley. He comes across a man by the name of Simon Wheeler
and is caught in his story of another man by the name of Smiley which provides a story within a story.
As clear of a difference as black and white, the diction of the narrator is more profound and well
educated than other characters is this humorous fiction piece. The differences is the use of diction is a
bit extreme, providing a possible time era and a separation in educational class.
The man who starts this piece off is clearly a man on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The narrators wording clearly creates and fully illustrates a sense of class to his character which later
becomes more separated as other characters are introduced.Another primary focus on Simon Wheeler.
In paragraph seven he uses a more relaxed use of diction compared to the narrator. He states, he
ketched a frog and took him home, and said he cal klated to educate him; and so he never done
nothing but set in his backyard and learn that frog to jump. This example provides a lower stance than
the narrator in terms of wording and possible educational class. Wheeler is clearly understood through
the story, although his use of old english provides a sense of old western or southern american which
comes off as totally different from the narrator. As Wheeler speaks of the character known as Smiley it
is clear that someone is even less concentrated on

The Use Of Dna Tests For Hair And Blood Samples
Evidence to Convict Innocent People
Scientific breakthroughs now allow the use of DNA tests for hair and blood samples that are about as
reliable as fingerprint matching. While the evidence assists law enforcement, it allows defense
attorneys to reopen cases to reevaluate solving crimes.
Introduction
When was the last time you have mistaken someone s identity? What did the last person in class have
on today? Wrongful convictions may begin during the investigative process. Police misconduct or
mistaken eyewitness testimony can ruin the rest of a person s life. The criminal justice system can be
changed to prevent the latter by reforming the type of evidence allowed to be used when convicting a
person. Most cases of wrongful conviction are either police initiated, which begin with the assumption
that a specific person is guilty, or witness initiated, which contains an articulate eyewitness testimony.
Police Initiated
Police investigations often begin with tunnel vision. Tunnel vision occurs when the police focus on
one suspect and do not go through a thorough investigation. Tunnel vision usually obtains biases and
the real criminal gets off free. They contain faulty labs, the old boy method , and manufacturing
evidence to fill in holes. They also contain police misconduct by the use of snitches (con game),
accomplices (turning in of a partner for a lighter sentence), and coerced confessions. Witness Initiated
Witness initiated convictions are usually for

Examples Of Implicature Analysis
Implicature Analysis Before telling the theory, Ryan asks what everybody wants in life. Hari answers
something about his girlfriend and Surdy wants to know who Hari s girlfriend is. Actually the question
is intended for Hari but Ryan takes the charge and says it is not his business which appears to be
violation of maxim of relation. He should have told Surdy Hari s girlfriend s name but he and Hari do
not want everybody to know it. In order to hide the information from others, Ryan violates maxim of
relation. It also violates tact maxim as Ryan impolitely suggests Surdy that you don t have anything to
do with that. To be polite, his reply should have been we do not want you to know Hari s girlfriend s
name. On the contrary, Ryan suggests Surdy not to ask Hari s girlfriend s name. But as stated earlier
this conversation has taken place between friends so; friends do say something impolitely as it is an
informal conversation. Close friends do not mind if anyone of them uses impolite language with them.
Concluding Remarks Impolite conversation is a very common thing between friends, especially when
they are away from home and having a party. They violate maxims every time to convey something
else to their friends. People, in general, violate maxims of co operative principle and politeness
principle with a motive. Here Ryan s motive is to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Art versus Pornography Essay
Art versus Pornography
Her head rests on her left knee, with her hands clasped on her ankle. Locks of hair are thrown about in
an auburn blaze. Her tight rosy lips are as red as her cheeks. Her dark blue eyes reveal a half
seductive, half submissive look. Her legs are in a subdued spread eagle formation, leaving her crotch
area quite visible. Her white panties leave little to the imagination. The sexual overtones are more than
just a coincidence. Suspend your imagination for a minute and ask yourself if the description formed
in your mind a work of art or, instead, a photograph of softcore pornography, found in such magazines
as Hustler or Playboy? Where this description is taken from will be disclosed later, ... Show more

The problem unfolds itself with two simple definitions. Webster describes art as creative work
generally, or its principles; the making or doing of things that have form and beauty. He defines
pornography as writings, pictures, etc. intended to arouse sexual desires or the production of such
writings, pictures, etc. To elucidate these definitions further, art primarily focuses upon form and
beauty, pornography on sexual arousal. The line between a pornographic photo and a work of art, is
the way the body is presented. Pornography is concerned with titillation and feelings of lust, while art
is concerned with beauty for aesthetic purposes. In a pornographic photo the body is considered naked
whereas in a work of art, it is considered nude. Nakedness is usually equated with arousal, whereas a
nude is a higher classification of an unclothed body, it does not necessarily imply lust or titillation. In
describing someone coming out of the shower, one would say That person is naked rather than That
person is nude because the nude is considered a form of art. The distinction between naked and nude
is aesthetic versus pleasure. Art serves to please the eye, but this is not its only redeeming quality. Art
is intellectual as well as pleasing. Robert Mapplethorpe s photos of the male nude are art not simply
because of the form of the body is beautiful, but because of the

To conclude, though use of Aspergillus species is common in synthesis of metal nanoparticles, these
five species are not well studied. Among them, A. fischeri confirms a good quality production of
AgNPs at an incredibly low concentration of salt solution used but with more number of bigger sized
particles. However, efforts are underway to optimize the conditions in the process to obtain a good

Characterization
Change in color was visually observed in the silver nitrate solution incubated with all five Aspergillus
species. The bio reduction of Ag+ in the aqueous solutions was screened by sampling of aliquots at
different time intervals. Absorption measurements were carried out on Thermo scientific UV Visible
Spectrophotometer from 200 800nm, at a resolution of 1 nm. A part of the dried powdered sample was
analysed by X ray diffractometer as a preliminary confirmative method of the presence of silver
nanoparticles. The X ray diffractometer (Rigaku Miniflex 11) was operated at a voltage of 30 kV and a
current of 15mA with CuKα radiation (λ=1.5406 Å) and at 2 theta angles, intensities were recorded
from 6°to 60°. To know the size of synthesized silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), size distribution analysis
was performed using dynamic light scattering in aqueous solution. The hydrodynamic size of the
silver nanoparticles was obtained using a Zeta sizer (Malvern) instrument applying a 660 nm laser.
The software was optimized to report summary statistics based upon the intensity of light scattered.
Two milliliter sample volumes from each nanosilver dispersion were loaded into glass cuvettes and
summary statistics were obtained using triplicate 2 minutes analyses (total analysis time=6minutes).

Tom Robinson Character Analysis Essay
Life is pack full of choices that test an individual s nobility. To be unique and true to oneself, an
individual must rise above the influence. In Harper Lee s To Kill A Mockingbird, There are many
choices to make regarding the character s virtues or their reputation. Dolphus Raymond enjoys
spending time with his family in privacy rather than being bothered. Atticus Finch and Tom Robinson
both believe in benevolence instead of acting in a violent way and conform to stereotypes. When an
individual is faced with societal pressures or being themselves, then they must stand their ground

He spends his time with coloured folks in town and at home because as Jem Finch explains, He likes
em better n he likes us. Raymond Dolphus did not care about the colour of a person s skin at a time
when segregation and racism were prominent. If being an outcast is the only way to be with the people
he loves, he will accept. When Mr. Raymond comes to town, he is often seen accompanied by a bottle
in a brown paper bag. The bottle is speculated to be whisky but Jem, Scout, and Dill learn that Mr.
Raymond is only drinking Coca Cola. The children ask why he lies to the public about being a
drunkard and he tells them, It ain t honest but it sure helps[...] Dolphus Raymond is ahead of the time
he lives in and does not want to be bothered for it. He chooses to be viewed as a man who cannot stay
sober enough to realize the situation he is in. If the town of Maycomb knew Mr. Dolphus is not in fact
constantly intoxicated, there would be outrage around his lifestyle, consequently Raymond would not
receive the peace and quiet he yearns for. His philosophy around this is that if people are going to
judge and think bad of him anyway, he might as well do something to ease their minds when they ask
themselves how a white man can live the way he does. The Finch children and Dill make a point that
Mr. Raymond comes from a wealthy family and surely has the means to live somewhere nicer than the
outskirts of town with the coloured people. Still curious, they ask why he

Non-Living Factors Affect Living Things
Have you ever sat down and just thought about life and how we just keep going everyday ? Well I
have , In fact I ve looked up things and asked questions on how we continue everyday . I ve been told
that there are many reasons why we keep going everyday. For instance you must know what the
difference between a non living thing and a dead thing is . And how non living factors affect living
factors . As well as knowing what a living thing is and what the characteristics are to make a living
thing up . In addition to that you must also understand what a molecule is and how there are different
types of molecules that we need on a daily basis to keep going. All in all this information is going to
hopefully help you get a better understanding about the things we need to keep doing . Have you ever
thought about what makes you a living thing ? The characteristics of a living thing are Reproduction ,
growth/development , use energy , reacting to stimuli. The difference between A non living thing and a
dead thing is that a non living was never alive , A dead thing was alive at one point . Non living
factors can affect living factors in a big way. Some non living factors are temperature , soil , water , air
and minerals . An example of a nonliving factor affecting a living factor would be temperature . The
temperature being the nonliving factor can affect living things by either being too hot or too cold when
a living thing needs a certain temperature to stay alive . However there

Introduction:
GABAA (Gamma Aminobutyric Acid) receptors are the main inhibitory neurotransmitter receptors in
the mammalian brain. Although these receptors have been found in other parts of the body like liver9,
smooth airway muscles of the lungs10, and several type of immune cells11,12, their main function
comes in the nervous system, specifically neurons. The GABAA receptors located in the postsynaptic
membrane are stimulated by GABA neurotransmitter released from the pre synaptic neurons and
functions to inhibit neuronal stimulation in the short term (millisecond time range), while the
extrasynaptic GABAA receptors are stimulated by ambient GABA in the extracellular space and
confers long term inhibition.2 However, there are many types of GABAA receptors depending on the

Cys loop receptors are characterized by pentameric ligand gated ion channels. Some other members of
this superfamily are nicotinic acetylcholine (nACh), 5 hydroxytryptamine (type 3, 5HT3) and glycine
receptors 1, 2 and 3. nACh receptors and 5HT3 receptors contain cation selective channels that
depolarize or excite neurons, whereas GABAA/B receptors and glycine receptors contain anion
selective channels that, in most cases, hyperpolarize or inhibit neurons. Exception occurs during early
postnatal development when these channels are excitatory.5, 3 Neuropathic pain can occur if these
channels become excitatory in adults.16 The unique feature of GABA receptors that distinguish it
from other cys loop receptors is its activating ligand GABA (or accurately γ aminobutyrate). There are
two types of GABA receptors A B. GABAB receptor was originally found due to their insensitivity to
bicuculline which is GABAA antagonist1. They are G protein coupled receptors and differ strongly in
structure, function, and sequence from GABAA receptors and will not be discussed further in this

The camerawork returns to the conventional style used for the soldiers. The framing of the shot shows
the soldier as the focal point of the shot. As the shot seems to be taken slightly from below it creates a
more imposing stance for the soldier and shows the shadow over his eyes from the peak of his hat. All
of this alludes to the mystery of this character and his intentions as the previously mentioned
omniscience of the spectator is broken as the spectator has no idea of whom or what Little Hansel is.
The next scene starts to rebuild the tension again. The only sound is the diegetic sound of machinery
and weapon. The shots are shot and closed off to surroundings. The extreme close ups [Fig.6] limit the
spectator s understanding of what s happening. From this shot the spectator can infer that it is some
kind of weapon but other than that there is no other clue. The lack of music and complex techniques
leaves nothing but the spectator s confusion and as the montage continues the confusion leads to the

manner to Fig.2 and the spectator is suddenly aware of the magnitude of the danger for the characters
in the woods. The reveal is not however, the climax of the tension, it keeps building. Yet, it is all the

Persuasive Speech On Soda
Introduction
Have you ever feel like wanting to lose weight? There is one simple thing you can do in your life that
can help you lose weight. Besides losing weight, doing this one simple thing can avoid many health
disasters and will help your body to become healthier! What is this one simple thing, you may ask?
The answer is, to stop drinking soda.
Thesis Statement
Throwing soda away from your life will help to change your life and makes your body healthier than
when you are consuming them. In this paper, after we examine its harmful ingredients, and the
specific ways it can hurt your health, you ll see why you should stop consuming soda. Then, we ll
explore the healthier alternatives to soda that we can drink every day.
Main point #1: Ingredients in Average Soda Drink
Firstly, to understand the real issue with soda we must first look at the ingredients that are contained in
an average soda drink. Most average soda contains these few basic ingredients which are carbonated
water, natural flavor, caramel color, phosphoric acid and high fructose corn syrup.
The first few ingredients in an average soda are harmless. Carbonated water is plain water infused
with carbon dioxide, which creates the bubbles and the gassy feeling we get while drinking soda.
Natural flavors are often of the citrus variety and added for taste while caramel color is a natural
additive that gives the color of food products.
Besides, the next two ingredients are not so harmless. Phosphoric acid is a chemical that adds a tangy
or sour flavor by breaking down starches into sugar, and sugar is one thing we should avoid. The
reason for avoiding sugar is reported in the USDA s Dietary Guidelines (2010) for Americans. Those
who drink beverages with a lot of sugar tend to drink more calories than those who don t drink sugar
saturated drinks.
This then leads to the connection between consuming sugar filled drinks and weight gain. Starches
aren t the only source of sugar. Another ingredient in soda that we should be concerned about is high
fructose corn syrup. This specific ingredient is included because it is an alternative form of sweetener
that is cheaper than anything else. Besides, it is also one of the single worst ingredients in the food

Attivation Of School Observation
General Information My Observation took place on 09/21/17. I arrived at 9:00am and departed at
12:30pm. I went to a Head Start program which is a public institution. The grade level that I observed
was Pre K and the children were around four years old.
Staff
In the program, there was one teacher and one teacher s aide. The class had sixteen children. The
Staff/Child ratio was 1:8 which means they had an adequate amount of staff for the children. There
were nine girls and seven boys in the classroom.
Activities
When the children arrived to Head Start the first thing they did was to go to a bin that had their names
in it. They searched for their names and tried to write it on a piece of paper which is counted as

teachers helper, bell ringer and other options. They then participated in organized play with specific
toys as they waited for the rest of their peers to arrive. They then ate breakfast and after participated in
a large group lesson containing children pointing out the first letters of their names. After the group
lesson, they had free play and then went outside to the playground. Interaction Upon arrival, the
children are encouraged to find and write their names which the teacher s aid was very attentive. She
helped the kids whenever they needed help writing, which is an example of scaffolding. Teachers
encourage and assist children in their own efforts to write (Bredekamp Copple, 2009, p.169). She also
praised them when they finished writing their names and encouraged them to pick a job of the day on
the job board. The teacher and the teacher s aide often referred to the children as their friends .
Whenever a child needed help they would say My friend, what can I help you with? . Referring to the
children as this created a pleasant environment and most likely made the children feel as though they
are loved. After writing their names and picking their jobs children are encouraged to play with
specific boxes of toys at the tables. The toys were mostly building toys that children can make
something out of. The teacher would sometimes show the children different things they could build

The Concept Of Collaboration Within The Organization
Introduction
Interagency collaboration is the modern concept of collaboration in which different organization
within and outside of government work together towards a common objective. Collaboration involves
all the organizations and agencies in the advancement of the common agenda, and it has been the real
catalyst for development (Finn Kohler, 2009). Different programs have been initiated to ensure that
agencies can collaborate and work together to enhance social, economic and political development.
Agencies can collaborate at different levels ranging from exchange of information, coordination,
cooperation and collaboration and all the levels of collaboration focus on working together to achieve
common objectives (Noonan Morningstar, 2008). At the basic level, the issue of collaboration has no
single comprehensive definition, but generally, it refers to the joint action in different organizations in
an effort to articulate for a common objective. Inter agency collaboration aims to bring together
agencies, service providers, and workforces to form temporary of long lasting partnerships that can
enable sharing of resources to reduce the overall costs for program implementation and increase
efficiency. Interagency collaboration is the only approach to enhance sharing of duties and
responsibilities in program implementation. The study aims to show the collaboration between the
Illinois Community College Board and the Division of Humans capital development to improve

Oppressive and Repressive Social Institutions, Value...
Oppressive and repressive social institutions, value systems and codes of behaviour are central to the
horror, science fiction and fantasy genres. Focusing on 1 2 examples of your choice, consider how
these genres mediate the problem of the social. How significant is ideology, as well as genre theory, to
your case study?
This essay will explore the ways in which the horror genre perpetuates repressive and oppressive
social institutions, value systems and codes of behaviour surrounding the homosexual subject. It will
be suggested that the generic conventions of horror films sustain repressive understandings of the
normative order which position the homosexual subject as a threatening other . This essay will offer

Given the multiplicity and ambiguity of the horror genre, this essay will isolate the generic
conventions of two specific varieties of horror; the post modern and body horror genres. Pinedo
establishes that all horror films involve the violent disruption of the normative order by a monster
(1997, 15), however the nature of the monster varies greatly. In an exhaustive analysis of the
conventions of the horror genre, Tudor notes that in classic horror films the monster or destabilising
force is external (1989, 28). Tudor goes on to note that an external destabilising force ensures that
within the genre world there is considerable security about the final safety of our minds and bodies
(1989, 28) and that in every classic horror film under analysis, the threat was successfully averted
(Tudor 1989, 28) The resolution of classic horror films inevitably involves the restoration of the
normative order by masculine might or scientific knowledge (Pinedo 1997, 15). The clear coding of
threats as external and the distinct boundary between normality and abnormality can be considered an
important generic convention of the classical horror film. However, body horror and postmodern
horror genres contain a different set of conventions in which the blurred boundary between the self
and the monstrous other is the source of the horror present. In the post modern

An Analysis Of Zora Neale Hurston s Trifles By Susan...
In a male dominated society, women were believed to be fragile weaklings that depended on men in
order to survive and find happiness. In fact, they were seen as nothing more than selfless wives and
mothers. The seemingly perfect wife then, was characterized by her dutifulness and obedient
demeanor. This notion of male supremacy was undoubtedly the predominant basis of the nineteenth
and twentieth centuries. Rendered unable to voice their own opinions, women then turned to pen and
paper as a way to communicate their thoughts. From this, arose the following pieces: Kate Chopin s
short story The Story of an Hour, Emily Dickinson s poem She rose to His Requirement dropt, Susan
Glaspell s play Trifles, and Zora Neale Hurston s novel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The story takes place during the harsh and relentless winter, serving as a key symbol since Mrs. Hale
describes Mr. Wright as a raw wind that gets to the bone (Glaspell 19). In this sense, the desolate
environment outside parallels the atmosphere inside the Wright s home. The cold presence of her
husband has confined Mrs. Wright and created a loneliness that was unbearable, leading her to
eventually murder him.
While Glaspell communicates women s view of marriage through significance of the canary and
setting, Chopin makes use of the symbolism in Mrs. Mallard s room door along with the front door of
her home to illustrate the struggles that women during her time. After news of her husband s death,
Mrs. Mallard retreats back to her room, having no one accompany her. She resides there long enough
that her sister, Josephine, must implor[e] for admission with her lips to the keyhole (Chopin 16).
Josephine is convinced that grief has consumed her sister who was making herself ill. Although she
does weep over the death of her husband, Mrs. Mallard was drinking in a very elixir of life (Chopin
16). The door that divides her and the rest of the characters represents a separation from her ordinary
life and the life that she must keep private. Only behind this door does Mrs. Mallard feel safe to
confide in her feelings, which was that of joy and a profound desire for a freedom that would belong
to her absolutely (Chopin 16), without concern for what others will make

Battle Of Peleliu Essay
When people think of battles during World War II they immediately think of Pearl Harbor, the Battle
of Midway, and troops storming the beach of Normandy. Rightfully so, seeing that they are some of
the most significant battles of the war, but the Battle of Peleliu is just a significant. A tiny island
nestled in the Palau Islands, the island of Peleliu was the site of one of the bloodiest engagements of
the war. This paper will discuss the history of the battle of Peleliu using information gathered through
extensive research. It will also address the intelligence available to the Allies which perhaps led to a
high number of casualties and an alternate outcome that could have saved the lives of thousands.

According to HistoryNet (1948) Marine Corps General William H. Rupertus commanded the 1st
Marine Division in the assault against Axis forces, specifically the Japanese and their commander,
Colonel Kunio Nakagawa. More than 35,000 service members (27,000 Americans and 11,000
Japanese) were engaged in this significant battle of World War II. Of those troops, The United States
lost more than one third of their defense (9800), whereas more than 10,000 Japanese soldiers were
killed and 200 were captured. Research by Gypton (2004) identified that the 1st Marine Division,
comprised of the 1st, 5th and 7th Marine Regiment (MR), landed in their strategically placed locations
on the island of Peleliu on the morning of September 15th, 1944. Troops moved onto the island in
waves as they received cover fire from naval vessels and aerial strikes. The 1st MR was deployed on
the west, 5th MR would maneuver through the middle, and 7th engaged from the south, with a
mission to push enemy forces to the eastern part of the island. The Japanese, nestled in their respective
bunkers and caves, awaited the initial fire and further instruction from their higher headquarters. The
initial battle continued over the next month. Many engagements, such as the Bloody Nose Ridge,
which was one of the most gruesome, lasted until October 12th when the island was declared secure

Essay about Karl Marx s Communist Manifesto
Karl Marx s Communist Manifesto
Faith and Reason
Communism can seem very desirable. It argued a world without war, in which the meek and the
disadvantaged would share without distinction, the anticipated material and spiritual abundance
generated by advanced. (Gregor 19) This seems as though it would be the ideal form of government
but in reality it is far from that. I will tell you about three of the most powerful communist countries of
the twentieth century. The countries that I am talking about are the Soviet Union, or Russia as it is
called today, the Peoples Republic of China, and Cuba.
Communism is a theory that states that society should own all property. There should be no private

The entire economic status of the Soviet Union was now controlled by the government. Also, all
private ownership ended. There were no exceptions. Along with this, a large industrialization program
was started and the Soviet Military was being strengthened. The Soviet Union was now considered a
super power and only the United States was more powerful.
Then in 1953, after the death of Stalin, Nikita Khrushchev became the First Secretary of the
Communist party. This was a very different time than that of Stalin. People were given a say in the
government. A very small say but it was still a say. Also, the judicial branch of the government
stopped their rampage against threats to the communist party and gave better chances for defendants
to defend themselves. Khrushchev focused more on the individual, attempting to make food more
available, making goods easier to come by, and providing more housing. Also, leadership was
decentralized so that owners and managers had an easier time running their businesses. Soon after this
he was kicked out of office for a couple of reasons. The first was due to a shortage of dairy and grain
product. Also, there was extreme turmoil in the communist party at this time. The next leader of
Soviet communism was Leonid Brezhnev. He took office in October of 1964. Under this new leader
the government was centralized, again. During this time there was an unstable

Operational Planning, Strategic Planning And Control
Operational Planning, Strategic Planning Control The function of planning is integral to the success of
any organization and is typically achieved through the development and communication of the
organization s mission statement, vision statement, and future goal setting. To set those goals a
manager must understand present realities and future contingencies for their organization, while
creating a vision of the organization s future (Boateng, Karikari, Akafo, 2015 p. 103). Per Satterlee
(2013), the mission statement is the crucial first step of establishing the future direction of the
organization. The vision statement explains the goals of how to achieve the mission. Policies,
procedures, and rules are written and implemented ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, it is imperative to formulate the strategy regarding exactly where the company is going
with their products and services. This portion of the process is truly organizational specific according
to their needs. Last, but not least, once all the planning has been completed, executives must oversee
its implementation to successfully live up to the mission statement. Key components of successful
implementation include clear, concise, and relevant communication, focus, and perseverance. One of
the ways to ensure effective implementation is ongoing evaluation.
Operational Planning After strategic planning, has taken place and filtered down through the
management team, operational planning takes place to execute the mission. Strategic planning
provides the vision for where the organization is heading; however, operational planning is where the
intricate details establishing mission completion is completed. Per Satterlee (2013) the operational
level, an integral part of the planning process consists of specific details to whom, what, when, and
how and includes functional areas within the organization, such as marketing, finance, and distribution
(p.69). During the operational planning phase, each section within the organization is provided with
their responsibilities for task completion. Managers conducting operational planning must factor in
issues such as budgetary concerns, policy and procedures, and team

CHAPTER 1
1.1. INTODUCTION
Education is the Most Powerful Weapon Which You Can Use to Change the World. Nelson Mandela.
We are living in a society influence by change. People s way of living and thinking is shaped by
technical, economical and social evolution. The globalized markets, the technical and technological
revolutions are transforming the modern economy into a knowledge based society in which new ways
of organizing the work are governing the world, demanding high performance technologies, solid
knowledge and increasing responsibilities. For the future of society , education will play the key part
in the way of life specific to this education and knowledge based society. Introducing in the
educational system of new learning and teaching techniques is a prerequisite of national cultural
success, as much as it is also a prerequisite of economic competitiveness
Education is derived from word Educare Educare is defined as to develop the knowledge, skill, or
character of individual Thus, from these definitions, we can say that purpose of education is to
develop the knowledge, skill, or character of students.

and took notice at how proud his mother was when she was finally able to pay the man for her

and self respect. He draws a connection, that when he has food, his family is prospering. Later on in
life, when Frank begins to earn his own wages, he loves the feeling of independence, and dreams of
providing for a family of his own. He works for Mr. Hannon, delivering coal, and makes many of the

One of which would be the use and enforcement of safety programs or failsafe systems for parents to
implement child locks on their Instagram. If we can find a way to block channels on the television,
and block inappropriate web pages from our computers then we should be able to apply the same sort
of safety control to our social media pages as well. According to a post from an article titled 5
Instagram Safety Tips for Teens by Ali DeCesare, There are privacy settings on Instagram that allow
you to determine who follows you. With privacy settings, sending out a request is the only way to
become a follower of someone. This way is a lot safer than having a public profile because only those
who you approve to follow you can see your pictures. Privacy settings also keep away unwanted
followers because everyone who wants to follow you has to go through your dashboard and be
approved by you. Without Privacy Settings on, it isn t only your followers who can see your picture.
Anyone can search your profile and find your pictures and profile if you don t have Privacy Settings
on. This is my exact point, Instagram has setting in place for your safety but sometimes, children have
a tendency to go behind parents back and undo these safety features. If parents aren t checking their

babies are kept in nurturing centers until they are grown enough to be put into their school system. If
the babies don t grow fast enough then they are killed. Once the babies do grow enough then they are
initiated as ones. Then in a year they become twos and so on. When they do something wrong they are

Another thing that is a big difference is that the government choses jobs for all the citizens based on
what the government thinks the chosen citizen likes. I think some people would be very upset about
that in our country because one of the main things we are supposed to have is freedom, but in the

reassurance. As I stared aimlessly down at my wristwatch, I could feel the time ticking more
sluggishly by the second as if each passing second mocked my very existence. I knew the time had
come. I slowly glanced over at my wife timid to meet her eyes, it was times like these where I knew
my confidence would keep her stable. Ellen, it s time now, I said hastily. I know, Clint, she said, now
embracing me, Thank God I have you with me. I couldn t help but smile, underneath the fear that

The captain ushered us into the sub, he wanted to get us going right on time. The hesitation I
possessed before diminished and was overcome by the immense excitement surging through me. My
dream was finally coming true. As I began to ascend the steps, I grasped Ellen s hand and squeezed.
Here we go, I whispered so that it could only reach her ears. I stepped on board, and took Ellen s arm
as she began to sway; I pulled her alongside me. We strapped ourselves in and I secured both of our
seat belts. With a creak the glass dome above our heads closed over the entrance. The speaker in the
center of the dashboard before me began to rumble. We will be dropping in one minute exactly, the
voice of the captain echoed throughout the vessel. After what seemed like no time, a countdown
began, five, four I grabbed Ellen s hand, three, two , I squeezed it tighter,

Making sausage can be weird at first with the slime from the intestines, used from pigs, sheep, goats,
cows, and sometimes even horses, but it gets better the more you do it and how you do it is by using a
sausage casing machine by pumping the ground up meat you have and putting through the machine
which just fills up the intestine and makes sausage pretty simple but not commonly known about how
the process is done there are other ways of like Plastic casings, Cellulose, and Collagen.
There are several different different ways of filleting fish like the Cutlet, Single, or J cut but the most
commonly use one is the Cutlet which is obtained by slicing the fish from behind its head and around
the belly and tapering towards its tail then the process is repeated again on the opposite side creating a

National Honor Society Greatest Achievements
Getting accepted into the National Honor Society is my proudest achievements to date, and even
though it is not the most outstanding achievement, it was important to me because it transcended
academics. To understand why I m so proud of this achievement, you must first understand the
enigmatic segregation that plagues my school. I attend Gaithersburg High School in Gaithersburg,
Maryland. The city of Gaithersburg is known as the most diverse city in the U.S and this diversity is
well represented at my school. Unfortunately, the diversity in my school is undermined by segregation
between the minority (excluding the Asian students) and the White students (including the Asian
students). Now I m not speaking of segregation in terms of separate water ... Show more content on

Since I m black, it is as if I have unknowingly signed a contract that restricts me from being
intelligent. I must automatically talk ghetto and be and only be interested in sports. Consequently,
when I get good grades, I m called a try hard and when I speak properly, I m asked, why I talk so
white . This brings me back to my proudest achievement, being accepted into the National Honor
Society. The National Honor Society at my school is competitive because many students seek
admission. It is looked as one of those clubs that colleges love on your application; therefore teachers
are very selective when it comes to accepting students. Students must have at least a 3.5 GPA, 80
community service hours, leadership roles, and 2 teacher recommendations to even be considered.
Being accepted into the National Honor Society served as a slap in the face to the absurd stereotypes
that my peers possess. I showed them you can be a black student and still be intelligent or a white
student and exceed in athletics. You don t have to adhere to the stereotypes that others have about your
race. Just be

Three salespeople will report to the sales manager.
Action Plan for Selection
To have a successful workplace planning system, the action plan will outline the recruitment,
selection, training, placement, promotion, development, and compensation of employees (Cascio,
2006). Ten employees are reviewed to join the new merged sales team. The salespeople from
InterClean are experienced in selling products whereas the sales people from EnviroTech are
experienced in providing full service cleaning solutions. I will formulate a talent inventory for each
employee and determine who already has the skills, abilities, and experience, and who will need
additional training and development for the sales team. I am responsible for developing the
compensation and benefits plan to reward their successes. I will determine the employees who may
qualify for promotions or may want a transfer to another position.

The Effects Of Video Games On Our Children
Video games have been accused of contributing too many acts of violence or aggression for decades.
What the media misses is that video games have many benefits we haven t found in any other media.
Society should stop being afraid of video games and instead start looking forward to how we can best
use them to benefit ourselves and our children. Anyone who doesn t understand why needs only take a
quick look at our society. Per a survey, 90% of children in the United States play video games and
70% of heads of households play video games, too. That leads to the average age of video gamers to
be 33 years old (Bavelier 21). Society is changing and non gamers are being left behind. Playing video
games have good effects on our brains such as improvement in basic visual processes, improvements
in attention and vigilance, improvements in executive functioning, improvements in job related skills,
and improves thinking process. Firstly, playing video games improves our basic visual processes. In
brief, it improves visual contrast sensitivity and provides successful treatment of amblyopia. For
instance, Fifty hours of action video game play (spread over ten to twelve weeks) improved visual
contrast sensitivity (the ability to distinguish subtle differences in shades of gray) compared to
controls (Burnsed 23). Furthermore, Amblyopia (also called lazy eye ) is a disorder arising from early
childhood in which one eye becomes essentially non functional. As an illustration, Bavelier

Credit Debit Card And Debit Cards
Before credit and debit cards were developed, merchants would issue a line of credit to customers who
did not have the funds to purchase their items. This credit processed involved using a ledger to record
the amount owed for the items purchased. In today s vastly growing economy, credit and debit card
use plays an ever present role in society. Credit and debit card acceptance enables merchants to sell
goods and services to customers who increasingly choose electronic forms of payment over other
payment types ( Payments 101 , 2010). Everything from purchasing house hold items such as grocery
s and furniture, to minimal tasks such as paying for parking for an hour, credit and debit cards provide
people with more freedom when it comes to having access to funds and making purchases. Along with
the rise of credit and debit cards, in a computerized and technological world where information is
valuable, securing credit card information has its challenges. Validation and encryption are important
practices that ensure the security of debit and credit cards, and they play a key role in providing the
customer with assurance that their funds and bank information is confidential and secure. This paper
will begin by explaining how credit and debit transactions take place and will go into further detail
about the security, validation, and encryption processes that take place throughout the transaction. For
the purpose of this paper the term credit cards will refer to both credit and

Reflection On Issues And Ethics
Issues and Ethics: Reflection Paper Assignment
Fareeha Ikram
Ethical Dilemma:
1. You are working with a man who has a history of suicide attempts and has been hospitalized on
more than one occasion. He tells you that he has found it very hard to get help in the past, because
whenever he tells a counselor he is feeling suicidal they immediately call for help and he is
hospitalized. He tells you that at those times he really just needs someone to talk to and wishes he
could find a counselor he could confide in when he is feeling suicidal who would not call an
ambulance and seek psychiatric help for him. He is a very high risk for suicide given his past attempts
and frequent thoughts that include a detailed plan. He tells you that he wants to tell you something but
is worried about how you will react. He wonders if he can tell you and if you can promise that you
will just help him and not involve emergency services, if you cannot make that promise he will not tell
you.
Part A
1. Step One: Identify the problem
The presenting problem is that as the counselor to a man with a history of suicide attempts and
hospitalization, I m in a situation where he has asked me to promise to not report any information he
confides in me to emergency services.
The major participant in this situation is the man as his life and safety are at risk, given his troubling
history, and as the counselor, it is my responsibility to help and support him. Therefore, I must use this
8 step ethical decision making model to decide the best course of action to solve this ethical dilemma.
2. Step Two: Identify the potential issues involved
The issues involved are ethical and legal. First of all, choosing to remain quite in this situation can be
a form of enabling, but it will respect the client s promise. But, if I were to report this to emergency
services, I would be violating the client s confidentiality and his trust. This is a moral and ethical
issue. This issue is also legal in nature because while counselors must maintain confidentiality, as per
certain provincial and territorial laws, there is a duty to protect/warn/inform in case of imminent
danger to the client, even when it is inflicted by one s own self.

Similarities Between Sherlock Holmes And John Doyle
Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth
claimed Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. These words would come to influence some of the greatest and most
renowned characters of any and all detective esque literature: Sherlock Holmes and John Watson.
Doyle s work Sherlock Holmes: The Hound of the Baskervilles became incredibly popular and was
eventually recognized as an American classic. Through his novel, Doyle portrays a fantastic use of the
elements of fiction and takes advantage of them in order to provide depth and understanding. The
novel first takes place in the 1880 s, in London, at Sherlocks famous office on 221B Baker Street. This
is only prominent in the beginning because the setting changes ... Show more content on

A major characteristic of Watson is loyal, Well you know what my instructions are. I am sorry to
intrude, but Holmes insisted that I should not leave you (Doyle 124). He very rarely strays from the
instructions Sherlock has given him and takes his role as Henry s temporary bodyguard fairly
seriously. He even later says in a letter to Sherlock, I imagined what my feelings would be if I had to
return to you and confess to you that some misfortune had occurred through my disregard for your
instructions, (Doyle 125). Watson holds in high regard the things that Sherlock says to him and will
always attempt to follow what he says with intent to please him. Jack Stapleton and Henry Baskerville
are the other two semi major characters in The Hound of the Baskervilles. Henry is a driving force for
the plot as he is the reason Watson and Sherlock are involved in the first place. He starts off as a fairly
adventurous, semi laid back character, but develops throughout the story to end up like his late uncle:
Worn out. On the other hand, Jack Stapleton is our antagonist. He starts off seemingly harmless, but
you begin to understand toward the end of the book that he s a very mal intended man with very

Examples Of Justice In To Kill A Mockingbird
Justice can mean lots of things some may think justice involves some sort of high power like the law
and government. Others might think it s being fair but then there are those people who think justice
doesn t exist. To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee is the story of young Scout and her point of view
during a trial her father had to defend. Justice is not a universal guaranteed to everyone such as there
is such a corrupt society. For instance Tom and Boo Radley weren t fortunate to get.
To illustrate how justice is a thing for people who fit a certain criteria, Tom Robinson was a black man
who was accused of sexual assaulted. All the evidence brought up in court by Atticus Finch, his
lawyer made it all clear that Tom was innocent. The disadvantage is that trial wasn t fair, the entire
jury was white. Not to mention the court room was segregated by having the people of color sit far
from the white people. As Atticus states In our courts, when it s a white man s word against a black s
man the white man always wins. (Pg 252) Since this takes place in the 30s it was obvious that Tom
wouldn t got justice. In this time period everything was heavily segregated and prejudicism was so
common. The reality is that even though this is a fictional story cases like this did in fact happen.
Many men like Tom were falsely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Racial Injustice in Virginia 58 men were executed of committing rape crimes from the years 1908 to

them faced the death penalty. In 1957 a man in Mississippi was acquitted by the judge after he
confessed of raping a 16 year old Annette Butler. The reason behind that was the judge thought the
death penalty such a harsh penalty. Hearing this might make someone question if justice is really a

The Use Of Dna Tests For Hair And Blood Samples Evidence to Convict Innocent People Scientific breakthroughs now allow the use of DNA tests for hair and blood samples that are about as reliable as fingerprint matching. While the evidence assists law enforcement, it allows defense attorneys to reopen cases to reevaluate solving crimes. Introduction When was the last time you have mistaken someone s identity? What did the last person in class have on today? Wrongful convictions may begin during the investigative process. Police misconduct or mistaken eyewitness testimony can ruin the rest of a person s life. The criminal justice system can be changed to prevent the latter by reforming the type of evidence allowed to be used when convicting a person. Most cases of wrongful conviction are either police initiated, which begin with the assumption that a specific person is guilty, or witness initiated, which contains an articulate eyewitness testimony. Police Initiated Police investigations often begin with tunnel vision. Tunnel vision occurs when the police focus on one suspect and do not go through a thorough investigation. Tunnel vision usually obtains biases and the real criminal gets off free. They contain faulty labs, the old boy method , and manufacturing evidence to fill in holes. They also contain police misconduct by the use of snitches (con game), accomplices (turning in of a partner for a lighter sentence), and coerced confessions. Hari answers something about his girlfriend and Surdy wants to know who Hari s girlfriend is. Actually the question is intended for Hari but Ryan takes the charge and says it is not his business which appears to be violation of maxim of relation. He should have told Surdy Hari s girlfriend s name but he and Hari do not want everybody to know it. In order to hide the information from others, Ryan violates maxim of relation. Her legs are in a subdued spread eagle formation, leaving her crotch area quite visible. Her white panties leave little to the imagination. The sexual overtones are more than just a coincidence. Webster describes art as creative work generally, or its principles; the making or doing of things that have form and beauty. He defines pornography as writings, pictures, etc. intended to arouse sexual desires or the production of such writings, pictures, etc. To elucidate these definitions further, art primarily focuses upon form and beauty, pornography on sexual arousal. The line between a pornographic photo and a work of art, is the way the body is presented. Pornography is concerned with titillation and feelings of lust, while art is concerned with beauty for aesthetic purposes. In a pornographic photo the body is considered naked whereas in a work of art, it is considered nude. Nakedness is usually equated with arousal, whereas a nude is a higher classification of an unclothed body, it does not necessarily imply lust or titillation. In describing someone coming out of the shower, one would say That person is naked rather than That person is nude because the nude is considered a form of art. The distinction between naked and nude is aesthetic versus pleasure. Art serves to please the eye, but this is not its only redeeming quality. Art is intellectual as well as pleasing. Although these receptors have been found in other parts of the body like liver9, smooth airway muscles of the lungs10, and several type of immune cells11,12, their main function comes in the nervous system, specifically neurons. The GABAA receptors located in the postsynaptic membrane are stimulated by GABA neurotransmitter released from the pre synaptic neurons and functions to inhibit neuronal stimulation in the short term (millisecond time range), while the extrasynaptic GABAA receptors are stimulated by ambient GABA in the extracellular space and confers long term inhibition.2 However, there are many types of GABAA receptors depending on the subunits that they are made up of ... Besides losing weight, doing this one simple thing can avoid many health disasters and will help your body to become healthier! What is this one simple thing, you may ask? The answer is, to stop drinking soda. Thesis Statement Throwing soda away from your life will help to change your life and makes your body healthier than when you are consuming them. In this paper, after we examine its harmful ingredients, and the specific ways it can hurt your health, you ll see why you should stop consuming soda. Then, we ll explore the healthier alternatives to soda that we can drink every day. Main point #1: Ingredients in Average Soda Drink Firstly, to understand the real issue with soda we must first look at the ingredients that are contained in an average soda drink. Most average soda contains these few basic ingredients which are carbonated water, natural flavor, caramel color, phosphoric acid and high fructose corn syrup. The first few ingredients in an average soda are harmless. Carbonated water is plain water infused with carbon dioxide, which creates the bubbles and the gassy feeling we get while drinking soda. Natural flavors are often of the citrus variety and added for taste while caramel color is a natural additive that gives the color of food products. Besides, the next two ingredients are not so harmless. Phosphoric acid is a chemical that adds a tangy or sour flavor by breaking down starches into sugar, and sugar is one thing we should avoid. The reason for avoiding sugar is reported in the USDA s Dietary Guidelines (2010) for Americans. Those who drink beverages with a lot of sugar tend to drink more calories than those who don t drink sugar saturated drinks. This then leads to the connection between consuming sugar filled drinks and weight gain. Starches aren t the only source of sugar. Another ingredient in soda that we should be concerned about is high fructose corn syrup. This specific ingredient is included because it is an alternative form of sweetener that is cheaper than anything else. Besides, it is also one of the single worst ingredients in the food ... Staff In the program, there was one teacher and one teacher s aide. The class had sixteen children. The Staff/Child ratio was 1:8 which means they had an adequate amount of staff for the children. There were nine girls and seven boys in the classroom. Activities When the children arrived to Head Start the first thing they did was to go to a bin that had their names in it. They searched for their names and tried to write it on a piece of paper which is counted as attendance. After they wrote their names they picked what job they had that day which includes teachers helper, bell ringer and other options. They then participated in organized play with specific toys as they waited for the rest of their peers to arrive. They then ate breakfast and after participated in a large group lesson containing children pointing out the first letters of their names. After the group lesson, they had free play and then went outside to the playground. Interaction Upon arrival, the children are encouraged to find and write their names which the teacher s aid was very attentive. The teacher and the teacher s aide often referred to the children as their friends . Whenever a child needed help they would say My friend, what can I help you with? . Referring to the children as this created a pleasant environment and most likely made the children feel as though they are loved. • 20. The Concept Of Collaboration Within The Organization Introduction Interagency collaboration is the modern concept of collaboration in which different organization within and outside of government work together towards a common objective. Collaboration involves all the organizations and agencies in the advancement of the common agenda, and it has been the real catalyst for development (Finn Kohler, 2009). Different programs have been initiated to ensure that agencies can collaborate and work together to enhance social, economic and political development. Agencies can collaborate at different levels ranging from exchange of information, coordination, cooperation and collaboration and all the levels of collaboration focus on working together to achieve common objectives (Noonan Morningstar, 2008). At the basic level, the issue of collaboration has no single comprehensive definition, but generally, it refers to the joint action in different organizations in an effort to articulate for a common objective. Inter agency collaboration aims to bring together agencies, service providers, and workforces to form temporary of long lasting partnerships that can enable sharing of resources to reduce the overall costs for program implementation and increase efficiency. Interagency collaboration is the only approach to enhance sharing of duties and responsibilities in program implementation. Given the multiplicity and ambiguity of the horror genre, this essay will isolate the generic conventions of two specific varieties of horror; the post modern and body horror genres. Pinedo establishes that all horror films involve the violent disruption of the normative order by a monster (1997, 15), however the nature of the monster varies greatly. In an exhaustive analysis of the conventions of the horror genre, Tudor notes that in classic horror films the monster or destabilising force is external (1989, 28). Tudor goes on to note that an external destabilising force ensures that within the genre world there is considerable security about the final safety of our minds and bodies (1989, 28) and that in every classic horror film under analysis, the threat was successfully averted (Tudor 1989, 28) The resolution of classic horror films inevitably involves the restoration of the normative order by masculine might or scientific knowledge (Pinedo 1997, 15). The clear coding of threats as external and the distinct boundary between normality and abnormality can be considered an important generic convention of the classical horror film. However, body horror and postmodern horror genres contain a different set of conventions in which the blurred boundary between the self and the monstrous other is the source of the horror present. • 23. An Analysis Of Zora Neale Hurston s Trifles By Susan... In a male dominated society, women were believed to be fragile weaklings that depended on men in order to survive and find happiness. In fact, they were seen as nothing more than selfless wives and mothers. The seemingly perfect wife then, was characterized by her dutifulness and obedient demeanor. This notion of male supremacy was undoubtedly the predominant basis of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Rendered unable to voice their own opinions, women then turned to pen and paper as a way to communicate their thoughts. From this, arose the following pieces: Kate Chopin s short story The Story of an Hour, Emily Dickinson s poem She rose to His Requirement dropt, Susan Glaspell s play Trifles, and Zora Neale Hurston s novel ... The story takes place during the harsh and relentless winter, serving as a key symbol since Mrs. Hale describes Mr. Wright as a raw wind that gets to the bone (Glaspell 19). In this sense, the desolate environment outside parallels the atmosphere inside the Wright s home. The cold presence of her husband has confined Mrs. Wright and created a loneliness that was unbearable, leading her to eventually murder him. While Glaspell communicates women s view of marriage through significance of the canary and setting, Chopin makes use of the symbolism in Mrs. Mallard s room door along with the front door of her home to illustrate the struggles that women during her time. After news of her husband s death, Mrs. Mallard retreats back to her room, having no one accompany her. She resides there long enough that her sister, Josephine, must implor[e] for admission with her lips to the keyhole (Chopin 16). Josephine is convinced that grief has consumed her sister who was making herself ill. Although she does weep over the death of her husband, Mrs. Mallard was drinking in a very elixir of life (Chopin 16). The door that divides her and the rest of the characters represents a separation from her ordinary life and the life that she must keep private. National Honor Society Greatest Achievements Getting accepted into the National Honor Society is my proudest achievements to date, and even though it is not the most outstanding achievement, it was important to me because it transcended academics. To understand why I m so proud of this achievement, you must first understand the enigmatic segregation that plagues my school. I attend Gaithersburg High School in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The city of Gaithersburg is known as the most diverse city in the U.S and this diversity is well represented at my school. Unfortunately, the diversity in my school is undermined by segregation between the minority (excluding the Asian students) and the White students (including the Asian students). This brings me back to my proudest achievement, being accepted into the National Honor Society. The National Honor Society at my school is competitive because many students seek admission. It is looked as one of those clubs that colleges love on your application; therefore teachers are very selective when it comes to accepting students. Students must have at least a 3.5 GPA, 80 community service hours, leadership roles, and 2 teacher recommendations to even be considered. Being accepted into the National Honor Society served as a slap in the face to the absurd stereotypes that my peers possess. • 45. Reflection On Issues And Ethics Issues and Ethics: Reflection Paper Assignment Fareeha Ikram Ethical Dilemma: 1. You are working with a man who has a history of suicide attempts and has been hospitalized on more than one occasion. He tells you that he has found it very hard to get help in the past, because whenever he tells a counselor he is feeling suicidal they immediately call for help and he is hospitalized. He tells you that at those times he really just needs someone to talk to and wishes he could find a counselor he could confide in when he is feeling suicidal who would not call an ambulance and seek psychiatric help for him. He is a very high risk for suicide given his past attempts and frequent thoughts that include a detailed plan. He tells you that he wants to tell you something but is worried about how you will react. He wonders if he can tell you and if you can promise that you will just help him and not involve emergency services, if you cannot make that promise he will not tell you. Part A 1. Step One: Identify the problem The presenting problem is that as the counselor to a man with a history of suicide attempts and hospitalization, I m in a situation where he has asked me to promise to not report any information he confides in me to emergency services. The major participant in this situation is the man as his life and safety are at risk, given his troubling history, and as the counselor, it is my responsibility to help and support him. Therefore, I must use this 8 step ethical decision making model to decide the best course of action to solve this ethical dilemma. 2. Step Two: Identify the potential issues involved The issues involved are ethical and legal. First of all, choosing to remain quite in this situation can be a form of enabling, but it will respect the client s promise. But, if I were to report this to emergency services, I would be violating the client s confidentiality and his trust. This is a moral and ethical issue. This issue is also legal in nature because while counselors must maintain confidentiality, as per certain provincial and territorial laws, there is a duty to protect/warn/inform in case of imminent danger to the client, even when it is inflicted by one s own self. One can also
