Gaurav Raheja Associate Professor, Architecture and Planning Department, Indian Institute of

USD, growing at 8% of the total retail market share. The store environment in apparel retail focuses
on customer expectations and behaviour. The consumer behavioural pattern of visiting the store again
and again will depend on the ability of the designer. It is the designer creativity to not only identify the
requirements of the retailer but also to identify and address the expectations/requirements of the
customers through the store environment. Apparel stores are focusing and targeting on store interiors
to create the best shopping experience through good store environments. This research paper attempts
to explore the design elements of the apparel store environment, which form the basis for store
differentiation among competitors of the adjacent neighbourhood store. This research paper is
descriptive in nature, and adapts literature based study for methodology. Key Words: Retailer; Apparel

Nietzsche The Grey Area

AP English Language and Composition
27 October 2017
The Grey Area Around 100 million animals are tested yearly around the world . Scientists willing test
these animals knowing that they are causing them harm but it is accepted because it is helping society
as a whole. What does this say about the people testing the animals; do they have any morality, do
they know what they are doing is wrong or do they feel as though they are doing it for the greater
good? In beef alone, Americans consume around 24.1 billions pounds. Here, America is again though
killing animals for our own use and benefits. Nietzsche believes that there are no morals and that
everything we have been taught is anti natural. Nietzsche implied the morals that people associate
with killing, testing, and eating animals are all antinatural. He stated; as it concerns for its own sake,
and and not out of regard for the concerns, considerations, and contrivances of life, is a specific error
with which one ought to have no pity. (Nietzsche 351) This explains how the people performing these
acts of testing, abuse, eating, and killing are only listening to their animalistic instincts or they know
that what they are doing is for the greater good. Nietzsche continued to explain that people do these
things for the benefit of themselves, Almost every party understands how it is the interest of its own
self preservation, (Nietzsche 348) Scientists test on animals to help the public, we

Social Determinants of Health and Phenomenology to Practice
The purpose of this paper is to thoroughly analyze a patient from a pathophysiological, social, and
philosophical perspective. The World Heath Organization (WHO) social determinants of health will be
applied to the patient data, emphasizing a phenomenological approach to analyze the determinant of
physical environment. By understanding these various influences on a patient s health status, we can
provide a more holistic approach to health care for future patients.
Discussion of Assessment Findings and Application to Social Determinants A 59 year old male, whose
initials have been changed to J.S. due to confidentiality purposes, will be the patient for this paper. J.S.
was admitted on January 12, 2014 to the Emergency Room (ER) complaining of vomiting every 15
minutes and abdominal pain rated at eight out of ten, on a scale where ten is the highest pain level. J.S.
described his abdominal pain as expanding from the inside of my stomach (personal communication,
January 15, 2014). J.S. was assessed and had an X ray and Computed Tomography (CT) scan
preformed while he was in the ER. The X ray showed that his small bowel was distended as much as
five to six centimeters, and filled with air and gaseous. A CT scan of his abdomen and pelvic region
showed a narrowing of the GI tract lumen (J.S., Medical Chart, January 15, 2014). J.S. s admitting
diagnosis was a Small Bowel Obstruction (SBO), which is a form of intestinal obstruction where the

Brilliant Lies by David Williamson shows that sexual harassment is a twisted combination of sex and

In today s complex and ever changing environment, organization continue to experiment with new
forms of team development. Some of the most successful teams bring together employees with
different talents and perspectives. In this research report, my aim is to have a clear and deep research
on teamwork and how it affects businesses so that I can help Tina and Frank who is coming back from
overseas to start their own business. Before could anybody start their business, it is very important to
learn certain aspects. Team work is one among them. I have included some of the important
information I collected through my research in order to help Tina and Frank succeed in their business.
Findings Teams have become very common and effective since they have proven to be effective in
areas as cost reduction, developing new and innovative products, and improving quality (Effective
Human relation, 2008). Team development is supported, in fact, required by almost all managements
today, but still it may take quite a long time for the members to learn the task and activities and to fit
themselves in the particular environment. Team work may vary as the organization or company varies.
Team work involves a lot of important aspects such as relationships, cooperation, learning, leadership
etc. since a team works together in

Explain Why Do Curfews Keep Teens Out Of Trouble
Do curfews keep teens out of trouble?
According to Cambridge dictionary, a curfew is a rule that everyone must stay at home between
particular times. There are kinds of curfews. Juvenile curfew laws are imposed by the state/ local
police; it prevents people, who are usually under 18 from being outside the homes. Emergency curfew
laws are temporary curfews that are applied by the state or local government due to a natural disaster,
revolution or a rebellion. On the other hand, there are curfews that are enforced by parents on teens for
various reasons; it s usually to keep them out of trouble and problems. However, curfews do not
usually keep teens out trouble.
There are many reasons why a curfew imposed by parents would not keep teens out of trouble. From
personal experiences, teens are expected to go to school from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM every day. Then,
they reach their homes by 2:40PM /3:00 PM. Under certain circumstances, such as after ... Show more

Curfews make teens feel like they re not trusted enough. This creates a bad relationship. It can create
an awkward uncomfortable environment at home. This can lead the teenagers to leave the house and
try as much as they can to not be in the house around their parents. This shows that the more the
parents try to keep their teenagers under control, the more the teenagers will crack and the more
troubles and problems occur. They will just go behind their back and do whatever they want.
Teenagers would feel like they are being treated unfairly or that they are being discriminated against It
could cause them to sneak out because they feel locked up, which could put them in more harm. This
shows that teens do not want to treated unfairly just because of their age. Curfews cause the teenagers
to sneak out, which can cause them to get in trouble with the police. These evidences show that a
curfew is not a helpful or a smart

Teens should not be allowed to play violent role playing games because kids are learning to become
criminals and learning to efficiently kill other kids without getting caught. In many of these violent
role playing games kids are playing the role as the criminal. In reality kids are learning that it is ok to
become a criminals and it shows to. Many of the school shooters have been described as being
addicted to video games. These video games may have had a part in how they planned to do what they
did or how they got the mentality that it was ok. In many popular video games like Grand Theft Auto

Shakespeare Literary Influences
William Shakespeare, the most famous of all English writers, has written many works. Shakespeare s
life has very much to do with the style of his writing as his stories are from his past experiences. In a
very fascinating way, he had the ability to translate the issues of his own time into universal themes.
Shakespeare was of interest with his controversial. He was a common phenomenon in his day, as he
was part of a theatrical world. Shakespeare was influenced by many different writers such as
Christopher Mowe, Geoffrey Marlowe. Transcendentalists were interested in him because he used his
own issues to display actual things that go in society. For example, one of the most famous plays of all
time he wrote was Romeo and Juliet . This love story reveals fresh depths and nuances when
experienced directly because of the beauty and precision of Shakespeare s language and his brilliant
perception of character. Shakespeare includes much comic byplay between Romeo and his friends and
between Juliet and her Nurse, thus enriching the texture of the play as its characters appear in diverse
lights. Although most of his work was viewed as universal and phenomenal, Henry David Thoreau
had less praise for Shakespeare (Wayne). Poet jones was very ultimately concerned with the lack of
religion, specifically Christian morality, in Shakespeare s plays (Wayne). In Romeo and Juliet,
Shakespeare displayed different levels of family expectations. The decisions people make sometimes

The Problem of Digital and Online Piracy
Digital or online piracy is one of the biggest if not the biggest criminal cyber acts today. It has been a
major problem for nearly two decades. Sellers of digital products (ranging from music to software) are
actively fighting the availability of pirated copies of their products, but despite more sophisticated
copy protection, the problem is still out there (Sundararajan 2004). So what exactly constitutes online
piracy? It s important to have a working definition, especially when the behavior of engaging in online
piracy can involve legal penalty. Online piracy is actually a pretty broad category and it brings in a
number of different activities, however, definable boundaries are sometimes unclear (Fisk 2009).
Piracy is the act of copying and distributing intellectual property without the consent of the rights
holder. Therefore online piracy is an act of piracy that uses computer networks as a tool for both
copying and distributing (2009). Digital piracy is the piracy of digital media content, which includes
anything from illegally copying software (even if it s out of date) to copying a video cassette tape it
doesn t necessarily need a computer network for distribution (2009). In basic terms, digital piracy is
referring to the piracy of a specific type of content (like music or movies) while online piracy is
referring to a specific type of distribution method (2009). So who are the types of people engaging in
online and/or digital piracy? There is not a simple way to

Binge Drinking And The Minimum Legal Drinking Age
Karzhova Marina

English Composition II

Binge Drinking and the Minimum Legal Drinking Age
In the year 1984, President Ronald Reagan enacted a law that increased the minimum drinking Age all
U.S states to 21 years. As a result, it is believed that the mortality rates due to road accidents reduced
from 5,000 in the 80 s to 2, 000 in 2005 (Dean Mooney). However, the issue of binge drinking
remains unsolved with learning institutions having to deal with it every semester. In response to this,
134 college presidents formed the Amethyst Initiative, which is, a proposal allowing persons aged
between 18 and 20 to consume alcoholic drinks Conversely, the Mothers against Drunk Driving
(MADD), which pushed for the enactment of the law in 1984 believes that the Amethyst Initiative is
misplaced. The push for a lower drinking age is a battle between the parental community and the
student fraternity. For the drinking age too be lowered the Amethyst Initiative must compile concrete
research and facts to support its findings. Nonetheless, historical data shows that increase in the
minimum legal drinking age results in a decrease in the amount of deaths. As argued by Barry,
Stellefson and Woosley, the MLDA clearly reduces alcohol consumption and its associated harms (8).
In light of this, one can argue that the minimum drinking age should remain at 21 as lowering it may
cause fatal consequences.
The factors can be broadly classified as internal, such as

The Perks Of Being A Wallflower Belonging
(w. 129)
The Perks of being a Wallflower, (Chbosky, 2012) uses classical narration as a canonical based
framework of events which adheres to the conventions of classical narration. Screen Media (2009)
outlines that canonical style of narration, is achieved by a three part structure. This organisation is
presented throughout the film, as viewers are introduced to the main character Charlie, (Logan
Lerman) and his mental health issues. This introduction foreshadows the premise of the plot and
overall motif creating a consistent theme where the middle section features a chain of events that
Charlie must overcome. A state of balance is achieved at the end of the movie acting as a form of
conclusion. Throughout this classical style of narrative viewers see established relationships between
characters, within a classical narration framework.

Due to the nature of this genre identity, a socio cultural approach provides a straight forward way of
outlining both inter textual and extra textual techniques. This form of analysis provides emphasis on
texts that are a cultural expression of socially prevalent ideas and dilemmas, (Stadler and McWilliam,
2009 p. 232). Elements of society are presented within the text as audiences are exposed to
homophobic antics targeted at Patrick (Ezra Miller). This reflective technique foreshadows the genre
of coming of age, as Patrick faces obstacles he must overcome. Drama is showcased within the film as
the melodramatic tendencies of high school based issues become intertwined foreshadowing a journey

Perfect Storm Essay example
The Perfect Storm by Sebastian Junger was an account of an immense storm and its destructive path
through the North Atlantic. In late October of 1991, many a crew of several different fishing ships left
their port for their final haul. Little did they know that they would soon cross paths with one of the
greatest storms ever recorded. This particular storm would create huge swells, high winds, and hard
rain. The system was said to be a perfect storm because all of the elements were just right to create the
worst imaginable storm ever seen claimed some meteorologists. Such a storm left little room for
rescue if one s boat got into trouble. But there were those daring rescues from the Coast Guard during

Peak physical shape and sharpness of mind were essential qualities for these heroes in the story.
However, there was a little more to their character than what met the eye. These men had all the brute
force in the world topped off with a touch of humanity. Humanity allowed them to put themselves in
the shoes of the people trapped in the storm. They could then see the gravity of the situation and the
importance of their role in their safety. But then again, many readers knew of the danger the crews
were in and felt sorry and scared for them at the same time. But you wouldn t catch them out there in
the middle of the storm, like a PJ or a pilot, risking their neck for people they did not know. So there
had to be another element inside these men in order to separate them from the rest of mankind. They
had what some may call, a hint of insanity. They were not insane to take on the task; rather, they had
to have a lack of care for their own safety in order to ensure the safety of others. Not many people
would be willing to dive into such waters and risk their own lives such as Dave Moore did for the
Satori. The perfect storm provided a perfect opportunity for heroes to submerge. Many ships crews
were saved because of the humanity and heroism of these rescue teams. But for some ships, like the
Andrea Gail, they were caught in the middle of an unforgiving storm and did not have a chance at
being rescued. The

The Structural Strain Theory Has Occurred
When socially accepted goals cannot be reached through legitimate means, the structural strain theory
has occurred. A mismatch that occurs between legitimate means and socially promoted goals has a
typology of responses in the strain theory. Merton s typology extends the functionalist perspective. He
believed that larger deviancy rates were because of social conditions and the varying responses. One
of the responses to social strain that accepts legitimate means of pursuing socially promoted goals is
conformity. Another response to social strain is ritualism. People reject or give up the socially
approved goal, but continue pursuing other goals through the same legitimate means (MindEdge,

I was proud to show off to all three of my daughters, that at any age, you can go back to school and do
something you love. My first certificate was in Dental Assisting. I hated the job after I finished. I felt
like I had wasted over a year of my life and money for something I did not like anymore.
College is time consuming. You must make time out for your class study and homework time. I was
always told if you work hard and get good grades in school that you will get into a good college. I was
also told that getting good grades in college, will get you the degree you are seeking and you should
be able to get a job anywhere you want. Even if you graduate summa cum laude, you might not be
guaranteed a job. If you stay focused on what you want out of your own education and take advantage
of any help offered, you may end up working in a field that you will stay in forever.
The number one way to reach your college degree goal is by going to college for classes when they
are scheduled. If you are not there, you cannot learn anything. I have mostly followed the
institutionalized approach of achieving my goal and I have more of a conformist response. I followed
my schedules down to the T. Making sure to do the best I could in each class. I tried to never miss a
class or most assignments. I did become a little bit of a Ritualist when I hated my first certificate from
college. I went down a different path than I had originally chosen. I

Mr Harvey The Lovely Bones
Chilling through and through, The Lovely Bones, by Alice Sebold, is a tale of both murder and
growth, and, more so, the latter after the former. Introduced, quite bluntly, within the very first two
lines of the novel, readers meet the narrator, Salmon, like the fish; first name, Susie. . . murdered [at
age 14] on December 6, 1973 (1). Susie, brutally raped and killed by a foul, twisted serial killer by the
name of Mr. Harvey, is now giving the audience an eerie, psychologically thrilling recountal on the
lives of those she once knew who continue to live. In a fascinating twist, Sebold has Susie go into
detailed aspects of Mr. Harvey s life, past, and the nature of his corruption. Although humans are not
inherently or entirely benevolent or malevolent creatures from birth, one can see how the nurture of a
human directly influences their qualities as seen through Mr. Harvey s characterization and
development.
Before meeting Mr. Harvey, Susie enlightens the audience with a few facts about the murderer. For
instance, that her mother liked his border flowers , and that he believed in old fashioned things like
eggshells and coffee grounds, which he said his own mother had used (6). For the lead in of a
character who has repeatedly committed the most heinous of crimes, he is depicted, oddly enough,
with some aspects of humanity. Later on in the novel, dredging up old memories, Susie observes and
conveys the traumatizing childhood of Mr. Harvey. Doing so, Sebold, in an attempt

Stalingrad Turning Point
In August 1942, Hitler s massive Sixth Army marched to the city that was named after Stalin. During
the five month siege, the Russians fought to hold the city and were determined to hold it at any cost.
The book Stalingrad shows the roles of soldiers on both the Russian and German side, as well as
fighting in inhuman conditions, and some of the experiences from civilians who were trapped in the
battlefield. Antony Beevor interviewed some of the survivors and discovered new untold stories and
facts in a wide range of German and Soviet archives. Some of these included prisoner interrogations
and reports of desertions and executions. As a story of cruelty, courage, and human suffering,
Stalingrad is extraordinary and unforgettable. Many historians argue that the Battle of Stalingrad was
the turning point of WW II in Europe. During the course of war, changes in moods, thoughts, and
impressions of the Germans, Romanians and Soviets were easily depicted. It documents the impact on
the psychological changes of the war but justifies how it changed the history of modern warfare as we
know it. Stalingrad is a story of the well known Battle of Stalingrad that took place on the Eastern
Front of Europe during World War II, which is written by world renowned historian Antony Beevor. It
covers all the parts of the siege from start to finish, it begins from the Axis invasion of the USSR, right
up to the very end of the outcomes of the various prisoners of war that were captured at

The Animal Protection Movement Of The Nineteenth Century
The animal protection movement of the nineteenth century was based on the concept of animal
welfare; that is, the moral obligations required by human society. Such morals stem from natural
theology, specifically, the Book of Nature, which proposes that humans, the superior beings, should
hold dominion over animals, but have mercy, care, and stewardship toward them. From these ideas,
the animal protection movement was formed with two responsibilities in mind: first, to address
traditional moral concerns, such that an individual pledges to do no harm to animals; and second, to
enforce the prevention of cruelty to animals inflicted by others (Fan, 10/28).
The first anti cruelty bill was introduced to Parliament in England in 1800 in an attempt to end bull
baiting; this initial legislation was the start of a long effort. In 1822, Colonel Richard Martin
succeeded in passing a bill to prevent cruelty to livestock (later amended to include ... Show more

She was not only an animal welfare advocate, but also a writer and a suffragist. In 1875, Cobbe
established the National Anti Vivisection Society (NAVS), which combatted medical establishments
and their methods for experimentation, influencing future research methods and animal testing. A year
later, the Cruelty to Animals Act was passed, establishing England s first attempt to regulate
experimentation of animals (Guerrini, 90). In the midst of the anti vivisection legislation, Anna Sewell
published Black Beauty, an animal autobiography illustrating the conditions of a working horse in the
nineteenth century. Black Beauty exposes the treatment of animals during this time, including the
cruelty of accessories such as the bearing rein, a strap restraining the horse s neck, causing damage
and pain. Sewell s novel raised enough public outcries to have the bearing rein abolished in England,
and spark anti cruelty legislation in

The USA Patriot Act Analysis
The coordinated terrorist attacks of September 11th attempted to shake the foundation of American
democracy and changed how Americans viewed terrorism. No longer was terrorism an issue of distant
countries, the aftermath of the terrorist attacks left the American people searching for answers to
prevent another attack on the homeland. Signed into law less than six weeks after the September 11th
attacks, the Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept
and Obstruct Terrorism Act (USA PATRIOT Act) of 2001 sent a strong message to American citizens
and the rest of the world that the United States government was prepared to amend laws in order to
combat both foreign and domestic terrorism and ensure public safety.
Problem
The hastiness of its inception caused the USA PATRIOT Act to be deemed unconstitutional by the
public court of opinion. Many citizens feared it was a knee jerk reaction to an attack that came without
warning. However, the USA PATRIOT Act is constitutional and an effective counter terrorism ... Show

Michael McCarthy argues the USA PATRIOT Act of 2001 provided a comprehensive approach to a
new threat on the United States. Passed with overwhelming support, the haste was considered
essential by law enforcement officials seeking to prevent further attacks feared to be imminent
(McCarthy, 2002). In analyzing the key aspects of the USA PATRIOT Act, McCarthy states the Act
provides a balance between the strengthening of the executive branch and the necessary checks and
balances of the legislative and judicial branches. These checks and balances help to protect individual
rights while ensuring national security. One of the most important checks was placing a sunset
timeframe of four years on key powers dealing with executive discretion. In doing so, the legislative
and judicial branches ensured continued oversight over the Act and protection from abuse of power
from the executive

Language and Memory Paper
Introduction
Language is important to the way we communicate. Semantic memory is acquired over the years and
is vital to language. Language becomes second nature when we already know what, when and how to
say something. We form sentences, phrases, paragraphs by planning what we say and how we will say
it. Most people believe that when we speak, it is without thought and is done unconsciously. However,
in this paper I will seek to explain the relationship between semantic memory and language
production.
Explain the nature and function of semantic memory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For every action, there is a reason for it. We have to appreciate our cognitive processes and continuing
to understand how they work and what goes into making them work is so rewarding.
Analyze the basic functions of language
Pinker (1994c) esteems language as the jewel in the crown of cognition. Language serves the purpose
of communicating or revealing our cognitive processes. The beautiful thing about language is that it is
one of most complex and valuable aspect of cognition (Robinson Riegler amp; Robinson Riegler,
2008). Babies are able to learn language and sometime understand the language before they can speak
it. There are different types of languages: sign language, English, Spanish, Dutch, French, Braille. All
of these are ways that people communicate with one another depending on their culture and
mental/physical circumstances (deaf, blind).
One characteristic of language is that everything we refer to is symbolized by a word. The way we put
words in a sentence and combine them to make sense, would conclude that we have a basic
understanding of what role words play in a sentence (noun, verb, pronoun). We would not know this if
not through language. Through language we are able to speak, write, read and understand. As
Robinson Riegler (2008) brings out, all the words a person knows comprise their mental lexicon and is
a part of our semantic memory.
When we talk about language, we also should

How Does Chimpanzees Use Language
Can animals learn to use language or is it all a load of monkey business? Animals can not use
language because language is an exclusive skill that belongs to humans. Chimpanzees can
communicate with each other, but that doesn t qualify as language. One type of Chimpanzee is
learning in a laboratory, however, they are only learning simplistic symbols.
One reason why Chimps communicate but don t use language is they can be trained since birth, but
they still won t be able to communicate with the complexity level that humans do. Kanzi the Bonobo
learned 348 symbols at the age of 26 which is the equivalent 3,000 English words. Even if animals
could use a language they could very well not be able to speak clearly because of their low count of

Positive And Negative Effects Of Listening To Music
Throughout history, man has created and listened to music for many purposes. Music has served to
express emotions such as joy or sorrow, and has done so very effectively. Music has been a tool of
communication in this way, helping one man to understand another and providing a medium of
interconnection. Every known society throughout history has had some form of music. Some would
look at music as a small footnote in the progression of humanity, it is in fact a much greater force; for
some, it defines their very existence (Andrew). The fact is, music is a driving force in society; it has
been present since the dawn of man. Andrew then explains how though some results are questionable,
the consensus view seems to be that music has the capacity for both positive and negative effects.
Listening to music as a background activity has been shown to positively affect mood, productivity,
and even intelligence. Music can make us feel a certain way. Music sets moods and creates
atmospheres. So in short, music has the power to culturally, morally, and emotionally influence our
society. Andrew later speaks on Reverse Spins website stating: simply listening to music in the
background while doing an arduous task can make it seem much easier, or in some cases [...] ease the
strain of an activity (Olson). Music has been proven to be effective in other ways like relaxation,
anxiety and pain in medicine and dentistry, and promoting well being through the production of
particular endorphins.

John Adams Pursuit Of The American Dream
Daija Daniels
Professor Metz
History 101

The American Dream
When people come to America, they come because the want to live the American dream. But what
actually is the American dream? Does it truly exist? When one thinks of the American dream they
instantly think of the Declaration of Independence because they too also believe that all men are
created equal but also believe in the beauty of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. United States
citizens as well as immigrants, believed in what the declaration had said and that it would push them
closer to an experience of the American dream. Though people are excited to move towards a better
life, they become a bit hesitant because they do not know exactly what the American dream is, nor do
they know if all people are granted the same chance towards the American dream due to their age,
race, their social status, traditions and any other factors. John Adams once stated that this American
dream we speak of should give a better life to everyone but only according to their ability. To me this
means that everyone deserves a better life but we cannot just give you everything, you have to show
what you can do, and how far your American dream goes depends on you, your ability, and how hard
you are willing to work. Though your American dream is based upon your ability being African
American holds you back, though you have the ability to do great things you will not get the same
opportunity due to race. Even today

Ayn Rand s Anthem Essay
Ayn Rand s Anthem
In the novel Anthem by Ayn Rand there are many themes. These themes include love, desire, equality,
freedom, and individuality. Most of these themes are all shown by the majority of the characters in the
book, especially Equality 7 2521. One can see that the themes of love and individuality are very
important in the novel. The theme of love is shown between Equality 7 2521 and Liberty 5 3000. The
theme of individuality is shown by Equality 7 2521.
Anthem is a novel about a man, Equality 7 2521, who went against the laws to make his own
individual choices, to gain knowledge, and to love the woman of his choice. Equality 7 2521 lived in a

After this was their first forbidden kiss.
After Equality 7 2521 fled into the Uncharted Forests and became free from the councils he finds out
that Liberty 5 3000 had followed his footsteps to be with him. For the first time Liberty 5 3000 and
Equality
7 2521 made love. After this the two start to reject morals and ethics of their old society and make
their own. Later in their travels the Golden One and the Unconquered discover a house built in the
Unmentionable times.
At this house they get new names to show their new found freedom.
Equality 7 2521?s new name was Prometheus, this is because Prometheus taught men to be gods.
Liberty 5 3000?s new name was Gaea, this is because Gaea was the mother of rebirth and Liberty 5
3000 was the mother of a new society.
In Anthem love is a very important theme. The love between
Liberty 5 3000 and Equality 7 2521 was true, even though it is said ?what is not thought by all men
cannot be true?(Anthem, Page 81). Their love brought them for a civilization where the word ?I? did
not exist to a world of their own where they were free to do what they loved. Throughout their entire
relationship their love was forbidden, yet Liberty 5 3000 and
Equality 7 2521 broke the law for their love.
Individuality was also a major theme in the novel Anthem.
Equality7 2521 showed his individuality in many ways. Early in Equality

  • 3. Nietzsche The Grey Area Mara Holt Christopher Wood AP English Language and Composition 27 October 2017 The Grey Area Around 100 million animals are tested yearly around the world . Scientists willing test these animals knowing that they are causing them harm but it is accepted because it is helping society as a whole. What does this say about the people testing the animals; do they have any morality, do they know what they are doing is wrong or do they feel as though they are doing it for the greater good? In beef alone, Americans consume around 24.1 billions pounds. Here, America is again though killing animals for our own use and benefits. Nietzsche believes that there are no morals and that everything we have been taught is anti natural. Nietzsche implied the morals that people associate with killing, testing, and eating animals are all antinatural. He stated; as it concerns for its own sake, and and not out of regard for the concerns, considerations, and contrivances of life, is a specific error with which one ought to have no pity. (Nietzsche 351) This explains how the people performing these acts of testing, abuse, eating, and killing are only listening to their animalistic instincts or they know that what they are doing is for the greater good. Nietzsche continued to explain that people do these things for the benefit of themselves, Almost every party understands how it is the interest of its own self preservation, (Nietzsche 348) Scientists test on animals to help the public, we ... • 10. Explain Why Do Curfews Keep Teens Out Of Trouble Do curfews keep teens out of trouble? According to Cambridge dictionary, a curfew is a rule that everyone must stay at home between particular times. There are kinds of curfews. Juvenile curfew laws are imposed by the state/ local police; it prevents people, who are usually under 18 from being outside the homes. Emergency curfew laws are temporary curfews that are applied by the state or local government due to a natural disaster, revolution or a rebellion. On the other hand, there are curfews that are enforced by parents on teens for various reasons; it s usually to keep them out of trouble and problems. However, curfews do not usually keep teens out trouble. There are many reasons why a curfew imposed by parents would not keep teens out of trouble. From personal experiences, teens are expected to go to school from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM every day. Then, they reach their homes by 2:40PM /3:00 PM. Under certain circumstances, such as after ... This can lead the teenagers to leave the house and try as much as they can to not be in the house around their parents. This shows that the more the parents try to keep their teenagers under control, the more the teenagers will crack and the more troubles and problems occur. They will just go behind their back and do whatever they want. Teenagers would feel like they are being treated unfairly or that they are being discriminated against It could cause them to sneak out because they feel locked up, which could put them in more harm. • 12. Shakespeare Literary Influences William Shakespeare, the most famous of all English writers, has written many works. Shakespeare s life has very much to do with the style of his writing as his stories are from his past experiences. In a very fascinating way, he had the ability to translate the issues of his own time into universal themes. Shakespeare was of interest with his controversial. He was a common phenomenon in his day, as he was part of a theatrical world. Shakespeare was influenced by many different writers such as Christopher Mowe, Geoffrey Marlowe. Transcendentalists were interested in him because he used his own issues to display actual things that go in society. For example, one of the most famous plays of all time he wrote was Romeo and Juliet . This love story reveals fresh depths and nuances when experienced directly because of the beauty and precision of Shakespeare s language and his brilliant perception of character. Shakespeare includes much comic byplay between Romeo and his friends and between Juliet and her Nurse, thus enriching the texture of the play as its characters appear in diverse lights. Although most of his work was viewed as universal and phenomenal, Henry David Thoreau had less praise for Shakespeare (Wayne). Poet jones was very ultimately concerned with the lack of religion, specifically Christian morality, in Shakespeare s plays (Wayne). In Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare displayed different levels of family expectations. The decisions people make sometimes determine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. The Problem of Digital and Online Piracy Digital or online piracy is one of the biggest if not the biggest criminal cyber acts today. It has been a major problem for nearly two decades. Sellers of digital products (ranging from music to software) are actively fighting the availability of pirated copies of their products, but despite more sophisticated copy protection, the problem is still out there (Sundararajan 2004). So what exactly constitutes online piracy? It s important to have a working definition, especially when the behavior of engaging in online piracy can involve legal penalty. Online piracy is actually a pretty broad category and it brings in a number of different activities, however, definable boundaries are sometimes unclear (Fisk 2009). Piracy is the act of copying and distributing intellectual property without the consent of the rights holder. Therefore online piracy is an act of piracy that uses computer networks as a tool for both copying and distributing (2009). Digital piracy is the piracy of digital media content, which includes anything from illegally copying software (even if it s out of date) to copying a video cassette tape it doesn t necessarily need a computer network for distribution (2009). In basic terms, digital piracy is referring to the piracy of a specific type of content (like music or movies) while online piracy is referring to a specific type of distribution method (2009). So who are the types of people engaging in online and/or digital piracy? There is not a simple way to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Binge Drinking And The Minimum Legal Drinking Age Karzhova Marina Erin Beaver English Composition II 5 November 2014 Binge Drinking and the Minimum Legal Drinking Age In the year 1984, President Ronald Reagan enacted a law that increased the minimum drinking Age all U.S states to 21 years. As a result, it is believed that the mortality rates due to road accidents reduced from 5,000 in the 80 s to 2, 000 in 2005 (Dean Mooney). However, the issue of binge drinking remains unsolved with learning institutions having to deal with it every semester. In response to this, 134 college presidents formed the Amethyst Initiative, which is, a proposal allowing persons aged between 18 and 20 to consume alcoholic drinks Conversely, the Mothers against Drunk Driving (MADD), which pushed for the enactment of the law in 1984 believes that the Amethyst Initiative is misplaced. The push for a lower drinking age is a battle between the parental community and the student fraternity. For the drinking age too be lowered the Amethyst Initiative must compile concrete research and facts to support its findings. Nonetheless, historical data shows that increase in the minimum legal drinking age results in a decrease in the amount of deaths. As argued by Barry, Stellefson and Woosley, the MLDA clearly reduces alcohol consumption and its associated harms (8). In light of this, one can argue that the minimum drinking age should remain at 21 as lowering it may cause fatal consequences. The factors can be broadly classified as internal, such as ... In late October of 1991, many a crew of several different fishing ships left their port for their final haul. Peak physical shape and sharpness of mind were essential qualities for these heroes in the story. However, there was a little more to their character than what met the eye. These men had all the brute force in the world topped off with a touch of humanity. Humanity allowed them to put themselves in the shoes of the people trapped in the storm. They could then see the gravity of the situation and the importance of their role in their safety. But then again, many readers knew of the danger the crews were in and felt sorry and scared for them at the same time. But you wouldn t catch them out there in the middle of the storm, like a PJ or a pilot, risking their neck for people they did not know. So there had to be another element inside these men in order to separate them from the rest of mankind. They had what some may call, a hint of insanity. They were not insane to take on the task; rather, they had to have a lack of care for their own safety in order to ensure the safety of others. Not many people would be willing to dive into such waters and risk their own lives such as Dave Moore did for the Satori. The perfect storm provided a perfect opportunity for heroes to submerge. Many ships crews were saved because of the humanity and heroism of these rescue teams. But for some ships, like the Andrea Gail, they were caught in the middle of an unforgiving storm and did not have a chance at being rescued. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduced, quite bluntly, within the very first two lines of the novel, readers meet the narrator, Salmon, like the fish; first name, Susie. . . murdered [at age 14] on December 6, 1973 (1). Susie, brutally raped and killed by a foul, twisted serial killer by the name of Mr. Harvey, is now giving the audience an eerie, psychologically thrilling recountal on the lives of those she once knew who continue to live. In a fascinating twist, Sebold has Susie go into detailed aspects of Mr. Harvey s life, past, and the nature of his corruption. Although humans are not inherently or entirely benevolent or malevolent creatures from birth, one can see how the nurture of a human directly influences their qualities as seen through Mr. Harvey s characterization and development. Before meeting Mr. Harvey, Susie enlightens the audience with a few facts about the murderer. For instance, that her mother liked his border flowers , and that he believed in old fashioned things like eggshells and coffee grounds, which he said his own mother had used (6). For the lead in of a character who has repeatedly committed the most heinous of crimes, he is depicted, oddly enough, with some aspects of humanity. The Animal Protection Movement Of The Nineteenth Century The animal protection movement of the nineteenth century was based on the concept of animal welfare; that is, the moral obligations required by human society. Such morals stem from natural theology, specifically, the Book of Nature, which proposes that humans, the superior beings, should hold dominion over animals, but have mercy, care, and stewardship toward them. From these ideas, the animal protection movement was formed with two responsibilities in mind: first, to address traditional moral concerns, such that an individual pledges to do no harm to animals; and second, to enforce the prevention of cruelty to animals inflicted by others (Fan, 10/28). The first anti cruelty bill was introduced to Parliament in England in 1800 in an attempt to end bull baiting; this initial legislation was the start of a long effort. We have to appreciate our cognitive processes and continuing to understand how they work and what goes into making them work is so rewarding. Analyze the basic functions of language Pinker (1994c) esteems language as the jewel in the crown of cognition. Language serves the purpose of communicating or revealing our cognitive processes. The beautiful thing about language is that it is one of most complex and valuable aspect of cognition (Robinson Riegler amp; Robinson Riegler, 2008). Babies are able to learn language and sometime understand the language before they can speak it. There are different types of languages: sign language, English, Spanish, Dutch, French, Braille. All of these are ways that people communicate with one another depending on their culture and mental/physical circumstances (deaf, blind). One characteristic of language is that everything we refer to is symbolized by a word. The way we put words in a sentence and combine them to make sense, would conclude that we have a basic understanding of what role words play in a sentence (noun, verb, pronoun). We would not know this if not through language. Through language we are able to speak, write, read and understand. Music has served to express emotions such as joy or sorrow, and has done so very effectively. Some would look at music as a small footnote in the progression of humanity, it is in fact a much greater force; for some, it defines their very existence (Andrew). The fact is, music is a driving force in society; it has been present since the dawn of man. Andrew then explains how though some results are questionable, the consensus view seems to be that music has the capacity for both positive and negative effects. Listening to music as a background activity has been shown to positively affect mood, productivity, and even intelligence. Music can make us feel a certain way. Music sets moods and creates atmospheres. So in short, music has the power to culturally, morally, and emotionally influence our society.
