Advantages And Disadvantages Of Universal Healthcare System
Every healthcare system in existence has advantages and disadvantages. Each healthcare system
benefits different populations. The universal healthcare system, however, is often believed to be one of
the best healthcare systems in the world. It is questionable why this is presumed because this system
has a number of flaws that creates challenges for doctors, families, and communities. Many people
can find themselves frustrated due to long waiting lists and the seemingly apathetic work of physicians
when it comes to the care of their patients. A previous 5 year resident of Canada experienced the
challenges of the universal healthcare system first hand. In an interview, she declared that if someone
needed to go to the doctor they had to plan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This has created a shortage of physicians within these rural areas, leaving many patients without a
primary physician. Bazuik lived in Ontario for the five years she was in Canada. The closest big city
being Toronto, seven hours away. During this time, she had two different physicians. She recalled, we
did have a family physician, but some people did not and they were on a waiting list (Bazuik). These
citizens are a part of the 1.5 million Ontarians (or 12 percent of that province s population) [that] can t
find family physicians (Grazter). Outside of this province there are places all across Canada with the
same issues. This lack of patient care is impacting citizens to stay in these areas and even Canada.
Universal health care causes a chain of reactions within Canada. Before it begins to impact patients
and families, the doctors are affected causing the most influential outcomes within the country. A
survey done found that 55 per cent of doctors reported that their practices are being influenced by
government driven policies rather than evidence based clinical medicine and 70 per cent of doctors
reported that they are feeling attacked or vilified by the Canadian government (Gill). These are a
selected number of reasons that

Ida B Wells Contributions To Society
There are many people in history to be in admired. There are people that have made many
contributions and sacrifices to/for our society. Sometimes these people are overlooked. They are not
given the recognition that they deserve. Ida B Wells is someone that deserves recognition for her
contribution to society. Ida B wells fought against and publicized the lynching of African Americans,
fought in the women s suffrage movement, and in 1930, she ran for the Illinois state legislature, one of
the first black women ever to run for public office.
Wells Barnett was born in Holly Springs, Missouri, on July 16, 1862, the oldest of eight children in
the Wells family. She attended Shaw University (later renamed Rust College), a school established for

parade through President Woodrow Wilson s inaugural celebration, organizers asked her to stay out of
the procession: Some of the white suffragists, it seemed, refused to march alongside blacks. (Early
suffrage activists had generally supported racial equality in fact, most had been abolitionists before
they were feminists but by the beginning of the 20th century, that was rarely the case. In fact, many
middle class white people embraced the suffragists cause because they believed that the
enfranchisement of their women would guarantee white supremacy by neutralizing the black vote.)
Wells joined the march anyway, but her experience showed that to many white suffragists, equality did

A Vision Of School Leadership
A Vision of School Leadership in the 21st Century
The responsibility of preparing today s students for tomorrow s future involves more than
orchestrating the curriculum students learn and the teachers who teach it. It involves the ability to
employ the leadership styles fluently based on the everyday demands of running a school (Goleman,
2000). Informed by both research and real world application, the Wallace Foundation identified five
key functions of a successful leader: shaping a vision of academic success for all students, creating a
climate hospitable to education, cultivating leadership in others, improving instruction, [and]
managing people, data, and processes to foster school improvement (Harvey, 2013, pg. 4). To be an
effective 21st century educational leader, one must cultivate a sustainable vision and school culture
which are globally minded, yet locally applicable to the community they serve.
Leaders need to adapt their leadership style to fit varying situations that occur in a school. Each of the
six styles, coercive, authoritative, affiliative, democratic, pacesetting, and coaching have their time
and place to be utilized and vary in effectiveness on the overall climate in a school (Goleman, 2000).
As most of my educational experience has been centered around the democratic style of building
consensus, I tend to demonstrate this style most often. From experience, this style leads to a positive
environment as people feel listened to; however, sometimes

Earth Like Planets
Introduction
Do you believe that there is life on other planets? Better yet, do you believe that there is another planet
that looks like earth? As far as I can remember, there has always been the question of is there life in
outer space? I remember being in grade school wondering if there were humans or aliens on other
planets and if they were trying to communicate with us. Around January 1986 the Space Shuttle
Challenger exploded during takeoff in front of the entire world. As a teenager, this event was tragic
and amazing at the same time because I felt that we were on our way to ... Show more content on

However, this information does suggest to the public that we are getting closer and closer to
discovering other earth like planets. We can t be alone
The science community is getting very close to discovering earth like planets and extraterrestrial life
in outer space. This is considered a valued assumption among many researchers and astronomers. To
date, they have actually discovered more than 800 of these exoplanets amongst the billions and
billions of stars in our galaxy. The more planets found like HD40307g, the more they resemble earth
with earth like characteristics (the spinning on its axis, having a night and a day, and orbiting in the
habitable zone). Astronomers are also finding them closer to our solar system. Another assumption of
these findings are that humans are developing and advancing technology to communicate, navigate,
and live in outer space in the near future. NASA said no candidate planet discovered thus far by
Kepler is exactly like Earth, but noted that the spacecraft has collected enough data to begin finding
true sun Earth analogs Earth size planets with a one year orbit around stars similar to the sun. (Poeter,
2012)
According to space.com, private companies and NASA are working together to take the next step
forward of launching humans into outer space. Entering the term space settlement, suggest that

Problems Associated With Climate Change
1. What is this report about?
It considers threats and impacts associated with climate change could be reduced and handled through
mitigation and adaptation. The report evaluates resilience, choices, opportunities, constraints, needs,
limits, as well as other features connected with adaptation. Climate change requires shifting
probabilities of impacts that are varied with complicated interactions. A focus on danger, which will
be not old in this report, complements other aspects of the report and supports decision. Societies and
individuals may view or rate possible gains and hazards otherwise, given aims and varied values. All
inclusive evaluation has been eased by increased works across a more comprehensive group of issues
and sectors, with increased coverage of the ocean, variation, as well as human systems. (IPCC, 2014)
The findings in this report have greatly improved our knowledge of the range of decrease pathways
accessible and their inherent economical, technological and institutional demands. The report thus
requires the urgent attention of both policymakers as well as the public. (IPCC, 2014)
2. What climate change vulnerabilities are identified for your region?

Although, there is no real knowledge of why someone would become a masochist, Sexual Masochism
is thought to be related to a childhood experience or trauma and there are some who believe they root

they see themselves and desire power over others but cannot achieve it. Some who are classified to be
a masochist inflict pain on themselves during sexual activity or masturbation, beaten, bound, having

Cinema of Attractions vs Narrative Cinema
This essay will discuss both the Cinema of Attractions and Narrative Cinema and their origins in order
to better understand the differences found between them in regards to the criteria to follow. This essay
will highlight the role that the spectator plays, and the temporality that both the Cinema of Attractions
and Narrative Cinema exhibit.
Tom Gunning proposed the Continuity Model in order to better understand the beginning of film and
the making of film. Gunning proposes the following assumptions: Firstly, the evolutionary
assumption, in which film is considered to have developed linearly across time as more development
occurs. Secondly, the cinematic assumption theorises that film only truly came to being through the ...

Méliès was one of the first directors to progress cinematic technology, which paved the way for
narratives as style of film (Leveridge, 2012: 98).
Cinema after 1906, according to Gunning, pushed towards the structure of linear narrative, and away
from the immediacy of the spectacular image (Strauven, 1999: 387).
Paradigms and their relation to the Spectator
The Cinema of Attractions is based on an exhibitionist paradigm (Gunning, 2004: 44), where it seeks
to knowingly addressing the spectator and provide its spectator with a series of views or selective
information (Strauven, 1999: 49). The cinema of attractions existed primarily between the years 1895
and 1906 (Strauven, 1999: 38).
Cinema of Attractions is concerned with the ability to display. Attractions wanted to show the here and
now , interacting with its spectator with the aim of satisfying the audience s curiosity quickly
(Gunning, 2004: 44). It displays current events, scenes form everyday life, composed scenes,
vaudeville performances and also camera tricks (as pioneered by George Méliès). Cinema of
Attractions aims to astonish its audience (Strauven, 1999: 50). through displaying, rather than amusing
its audience through narrative content. This is seen in films such as G. Méliès L homme orchestre
(One Man Band) (1900), or his L homme à la tête de caoutchouc (The Man With The Rubber Head)
(1901) where the actor(s) constantly address the camera/spectator and the audience is

Genetic Mutation
In biology, term mutation has been described as changes to the base pair sequence of the genetic
material of an organism. Mutations can be caused by: copying errors in the genetic material during
cell division, by exposure to ultraviolet or ionizing radiation, chemical mutagens, or viruses, or can
occur deliberately under cellular control during processes such as hypermutation. In multicellular
organisms, mutations can be subdivided into germ line mutations, which can be passed on to
descendants, and somatic mutations, which cannot be transmitted to descendants in animals. Plants
sometimes can transmit somatic mutations to their descendants asexually or sexually (in case when
flower buds develop in somatically mutated part of plant). A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Instead there is an abnormal type of hemoglobin S that is inherited as an autosomal inherited trait.
This disease produces chronic anemia, which may become life threatening when hemolytic crises (the
breakdown of redblood cells) or aplastic crises (bone marrow fails to produce blood cells) occur. The
incidence of this disorder is 1/400 African Americans and 8/100,000 people. The manifestations of
this disease are a result of the fragility and inflexibility of the sickle red bloodcells. When exposed to a
lack of water, infection, and low oxygen supply, these delicate red blood cells take the shape of a
crescent. This then causes blood cell devastation and thickening of the blood. Sickle cell anemia has
the potential to be life threatening and can affect other body systems and parts of the body. Those
included are the nervous system, bones, the kidneys and the liver. Maternal PKU is a genetic disorder
that stems from point mutation. 1/15,000 people fall victim to this disorder. Phenylketonuria (PKU)
has been shown as a cause of retardation in infant fetuses. Children in the fetus begin with a normal
amount of phenylalanine hydroxylase but are affected by the mother s elevated phenylalanine level
due to the imbalance of prenatal amino acid. Mental deficiency is clearly evident in disorder and
usually consists of I.Q.s of 50.

Analysis Of The Play Murder At The Mic
When an arrogant musician is killed on stage everyone becomes a suspect.
STORY COMMENTS
MURDER AT THE MIC presents as a classic murder mystery with the ultimate question: who did it?
Everyone loves a good mystery. The goal is clear and the stakes are fairly high. The play offers a cast
of offbeat characters, betrayal, secrets, a twist, and a very ironic and delightful ending.
There s definitely a lot to like about the play, but with that said, there s room for additional
development.
The opening introduces most of the core characters. Greg is clearly the main character that the play
centers on. Greg s first words shitty nicely conveys his personality. Essentially, Greg is supposed to be
a shitty guy. He seems to have little ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The idea of the video camera works well too. There s a nice cat and mouse exchange between the
detective and the usual suspects.
The reveal that the detective is really the video guy makes for a good twist that the audience doesn t
see coming. However, consider the idea that once his wig falls off and they realize who the detective
really he, that they try to turn the tables on Hickman and accuse him of being the person sabotaging
the switch and killing Greg. Thus, it s at this point that he makes the reveal that Greg is still alive.
When Greg is revealed to be alive make sure he s condensing to each of the other characters to make
the delightful ending twist work even more effectively when they all conspire to kill him.
The ending is a lot of fun, but with that said, the overall humor could be elevated. It s not the type of
play that has laugh out loud moments. The tone is a bit ambiguous. Prior to the death, the tone feels
dramatic. However, as the play progresses, it feels more like a dark comedy, which is very fitting for
this type of mystery. While humor is subjective, stronger dark comedy with wittier lines of dialogue
would really make this play shine.
Greg feels cocky and entitled. As mentioned, there s room to enhance this. His motivation for the ruse
feels a bit unclear. He says it s for a music video.
This doesn t feel like a strong enough motivation. One wonders if he should tell the

Examples Of Simile In God Of Small Things
In the God of Small Things , Sophie Mol is displayed in the book as a beautiful girl for she is not only
from England, but a mixed white Indian. Estha and Rahel, her cousins close in age, are unfortunately
seen as both exiles and beastly for they are twins of their divorced mother, Ammu. The differences of
approval is completely evident in the way that their aunt, Baby Kochamma , pressures both Estha and
Rahel into recitations of prayer and English songs to please Sophie Mol (Roy, 83) . With the artistic
style of the passage on page 33, Roy uses simile, word choice, and imagery to demonstrate Estha and
Rahel s forced acceptance of their family s ugly obsession with Sophie Mol that in turns changes their
lives forever. Roy s usage of simile is extremely powerful to explain how ... Show more content on

As explained in the previous paragraph, Roy uses imagery such as burned houses and singed
photographs to explain how their lives would become like hell. To dive deeper into the word choice,
Roy not only uses hell like adjectives, but uses fragments to get her points across. In the first
paragraph of this passage, it is evident that Roy uses fragments with only one worded or two worded
sentences. She excludes the words preserved and accounted for, to bring more meaning to how their
lives had changed. That the hell in which they were to live in would become preserved, and would be
accounted for, because Estha and Rahel s family would make sure of it. In the second paragraph, Roy
uses the sentence fragment, Little events, ordinary things, smashed and reconstituted (Roy, 33). Roy
specifically grouped these words together to indicated that the small things would amount to such
huger problems in the end. That those small events would become a different story in the end as well.

San Cong Si De epitomises the notion of the traditional female virtues in China at the time, which
Cuiqiao is tied to. In the very male oriented and traditional values of the village, Gu Qing presented
himself as a catalyst for change in the eyes of Hanhan and more particularly, Cui qiao. Both Hanhan
and Cuiqiao are attracted to the promises of the CR for a better life; especially intriguing to Cuiqiao
are the promises of better equality for women that women under the CR can learn to read, write, and
even fight. This is reflected in the scene when Cuiqiao notices Gu Qing s ability to sew his own
clothes. She tells him she is impressed by his ability, to which he replies that women in the South
(Communist camp) cut their hair, and become soldiers to fight against the Japanese, just like men.
Hanhan s character in the film appears to be subtly comical, as well as rather silent and expressionless
throughout the majority of the film. As Hanhan got more acquainted with Gu Qing, he also got more
verbal. This reflects Hanhan s possible oppression of being unable to voice his own opinions, as well
as suggesting his character being overwhelmed by his living condition and social boundaries. He
appears to be a caring brother to Cuiqiao, but is helpless in verbally aiding his sister s pre prescribed
life of forced marriage and duties as a female. Hanhan s character becomes closer to Gu Qing,

Animal Therapy Helps Improve Human s Emotions And Disorders
Animals have served humans in more than one way including as a source of food, improving our
health, and service in working. They have helped in all of these fields, and humans have grown fond
of them. Nowadays, it is seen that people grow to love their pets, and there are many organizations
fighting for animal rights. Pet owners are extremely attached, so they suffer a lot of pain when the
animal dies. According to a study done in Romania concerning pet loss, humans like having pets and
adopting them because they like caring for a being that is dependent on them. In all aspects of the
relationship between animals and humans, they have helped each other in many ways. Animal therapy
helps improve human s emotions and disorders because of the fact that we like to be nurtured and
taken care of.
Since the 9th century, animal therapy has been active in different fields. The human and animal
interaction has a special connection that can help people emotionally. According to the website of Dr.
Carol R. Hughes, a licensed therapist, the interaction has the ability to heal and assist humans with
mental disorders and emotional problems and also dwells incredible healing powers (Hughes, p. 1).
Sigmund Freud, a well known neurologist felt that dogs had a special sense that allows them to judge

The Wife s Lament And The Seafarer
In the Anglo Saxon epic poems The Wife s Lament, The Wanderer, and The Seafarer, the authors
make their poetry much more interesting and enjoyable by inserting literary devices that add meaning
and cohesiveness to each line. Each poem contains multiple literary devices such as kennings,
caesuras, and imagery. These tools work together in order to add mood and transparency to the poetry.
The Wife s Lament, translated by Ann Standford, uses numerous literary devices to convey the pain
and emotion of an exiled wife. The author of the poem uses a metaphor to compare the cave the wife
has moved into to an empty hall, under an oak tree in this den in the earth. / Ancient this earth hall.
(Stanford 28 9). Comparing the cave to an empty hall shows the loneliness and isolation the
abandoned wife is feeling. Another device used by the author in The Wife s Lament is juxtaposition.

In the lines 8 9, the author of the poem uses a metaphor to compare icy bands to frozen chains. This

a kenning to create a new description for hail: Frost bound the earth and hail would fall, / The coldest
seeds (Raffel 33). This kenning serves to provide an alternate view and allude to the freezing weather
conditions the narrator faces. Next, the author of The Seafarer uses repetition with the word so in lines

Regulation Of Foreign Investment On China
Regulation of foreign investment in China Foreign investment in china has been adversely affected by
the global economic and financial crisis since 2008. In the first 6 months of the year 2009, foreign

Ideally, CSR policy would function as a built in, self regulating mechanism whereby business would
monitor and ensure its support to law, ethical standards, and international norms. Consequently,
business would embrace responsibility for the impact of its activities on the environment, consumers,
employees, communities, stakeholders and all other members of the public sphere. Furthermore, CSR
focused businesses would proactively promote the public interest by encouraging community growth
and development, and voluntarily eliminating practices that harm the public sphere, regardless of
legality. Essentially, CSR is the deliberate inclusion of public interest into corporate decision making,
and the honoring of a triple bottom line: people, planet, profit.
Stakeholders are taking an increasing interest in the activity of the company. Most look to the outer
circle, that is, what the company has actually done, good or bad, in terms of its products and services,
in terms of its impact on the environment and on local communities, or in how it treats and develops

The Judicial Branch of the American Government as a...
The Judicial Branch of the American government has potential to be the best protector of private
property because it is highly insulated from rent seeking. However, its ability to protect can be
compromised where it elects to defer to the legislative branch in making decisions like in cases where
public use and eminent domain takings are argued. This inclination to defer to the legislatures hinders
the Judicial Branch from reaching its full potential as protector of private property due to the fact that
legislatures are not very insulated against rent seeking. To understand the judiciary s role as a private
property protector, we must first understand what private property rights are, the motivation of the
judiciary to protect these rights and the kind of power that the judiciary has at its disposal to
successfully execute this role. To understand why this role maybe be compromised, we must take a
look at the legislative branch and how rent seeking influences the laws that it passes.
Throughout American history, the definition, allocation and protection of property rights has been one
of the most controversial and combative issues. According to Armen and Demsetz (1973), ...a private
property right includes the right to delegate, rent, or sell any portion of the rights by exchange or gift
at whatever price the owner determines (provided someone is willing to pay that price). If person A is

The Contributions of Doctor Gordon Buck
What determines if a person has left their footprint in the sand? What does a person have to do in
order for their name to be remembered? A person has made their mark in history when their action
affects how people live and think in the years to come. History is made when an individual has greatly
influenced the way people live on a day to day basis. A person has made history when it is apparent
that they have greatly shaped the way people think and the thoughts that they have about the world
around them. With this being said, a man named Gurdon Buck has shaped the way the medical field is
being viewed today. Gurdon Buck, also known as the father of modern plastic surgery , is recognized
for being the first doctor to include pre and post operative photographs into his publications. Doctor
Buck is acknowledged for being the first person to photograph the development of his operations and
the first to make steady changes over several operations. Gurdon Buck is also given credit to for the
use of tiny sutures he used during his operations that would minimize scarring. Doctor Buck has made
it possible for several surgeries to take place today because of the knowledge he has passed on. Some
of these surgeries include cleft palate and lip repair. With Gurdon performing so many challenging
surgeries, he coined a term called Buck s Extension which refers to a way of treating a fractured bone.

The Conquest Of New Spain Summary

this, research becomes essential to uncover where the truth lies. The True History of the Conquest of

This section highlights that history has created a false narrative depicting the natives as a victimized
people, which they were to some extent but only in the fashion that they did not possess the same
technology for warfare, immunity of communal diseases transmitted, and they were not anticipating
combat. All other factors considered, the natives stood to be a potential threat. In regards to knowledge
obtained by Spaniards prior to arrival and knowledge gained from observation, it would be remiss had
they not prepared for battle. This argument is not to be misconstrued in approving their actions; I do
recognize colonization as an evil for both the reasons employed and its damaging effects, but rather to
change the narrative surrounding that of the native people. While they did experience a tragedy, I feel
that it is erroneous to write them into history as being incompetent resulting from their

Essay On George Mcclellan s Assassination
The bloodiest war in U.S. history was fought from 1861 to 1865. Of the current thirty four states,
seven southern slave states seceded from the United States and together they formed the Confederacy
(Confederate States of America.) The war was an inevitable side effect of different political standings
and opinions, about the morals and duties of man in everyday life, between the North and South.
When the war started, the North learned an important ideology about what would be necessary for the
fighting to end. They realized that they had to win, and end the Confederacy, in order for the Union to
be whole again with Northern ideals. While on the other hand, the Confederacy only had to prove
themselves to the Yankees, in other words, they only had to hold the fight until the ... Show more

McClellan was well respected and admired for many reasons, he was very visible to his men, also he
made them feel like they were soldier rather than a mob of beaten men. McClellan s men would take a
bullet for him any day of the week and twice on Sundays, but with knowing this he gets scared. He is
reluctant to engage the enemy in battle and won t commit his men to the fight. This is shown in
Antietam when McClellan could have ended the war but is not obedient and does not attack when he

Why Choose The Caribbean
The Caribbean doesn t seem so impressive when you look at a map of the location. It s just a bunch of
little specks surrounded by tons of ocean water. Names like Caicos Island, Turks, and Nevis... Saint
Kitts, Anguilla and Montserrat aren t exactly household names. But, just because the names aren t all
too familiar, it doesn t change the fact that the Caribbean is a very popular vacation destination. The
little specks on the map are actually island paradises. There are over seven thousand islets, reefs,
islands and caves in the Caribbean just begging to be explored; so many of them are nearly
unpopulated and absolutely gorgeous. In choosing your Caribbean vacation, the largest challenge you
are apt to face is exactly where to go. All nations in the Caribbean have beautiful weather. Most of the
islands feature lovely beaches. The warm, beautiful, crystal waters are immensely enjoyable and just
as with any other island nation, the locals will welcome you with warm smiles and open arms. Picking
the destination is indeed the toughest challenge. Here are some great resources that will help you do
the necessary research to choose the best locale for your holiday. ... Show more content on

Review Of The Trail Of Tears
The Trail of Tears was a challenge since it was both a dramatic change (by losing each tribe s
traditional land, plants, and animals, as well as their horses being confiscated or killed [to prevent
escape] and their cattle being seized in order to discourage the temptation of absconding to live
independently) and a traumatic exploit (many tribes lost over half of their population). I picked this
topic because I have always wondered what exactly happened during this trek, how far they travelled
(where they came from and where they ended up), and how they were treated. The Indians, numbering
about 16,000, were forced off their lands when Georgia citizens and the president of the US ignored
the decision from Worcester v. Georgia. Almost 4,000 Indians died on the trail (including those
victims who died in the stockades awaiting forced transportation), in order to empty their tribal lands
and make them available for new white settlers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Indians and the threats or advantages that their presence offered with my dad and my brother (because

Software, Operating Systems, File Management And Digital...
Introduction
Over the course of the year I have submitted 4 different internal standards. Through the process these
internals I have applied skills that I have learnt in application software, operating systems, file
management and digital ethics. This four standards were:
1.41 (Implement basic procedures to produce a specified digital information outcome)
In this standard I was presented with a database of the food brought by students at the café which I
then completed and produced a mail merge of the products brought to be sent to the costumer s
parents. To do this I showed a variety of skills using Microsoft Excel and Word.
1.42/1.43 (Demonstrate understanding of basic concepts of digital media and to produce a specified
digital media outcome) In this standard I applied my knowledge of the Big Four (Contrast, Repetition,
Alignment and Proximity) as well as document layout to create a children s book.
1.50 (Demonstrate understand of the common components of digital infrastructures) In this standard I
used my knowledge of digital infrastructures to install and operating system which included drives
and utilities on the personal computer I had built in standard 1.51.
1.51 (Implement basic procedures for servicing a personal computer system) In this standard I used
my knowledge about servicing personal computer systems to find and fix problems in both hardware
and software.

A Route Through A Maze
Solution 1,
The solution for Problem Set 1, required a route through a maze. Elkner et al. (2010) suggested that, A
program is a sequence of instructions that specifies how to perform a computation. Given this
information, it was concluded that rules and disciplines were required in order for the knight to
understand and process any instructions given to it. Having prior knowledge that the knight would
foremost, need a full understanding of movement as a program platform, it was evaluated, that
rotational 360o axis was attached as a second layer to the maze, this accommodated to calculate how
many degrees the knight would need to turn as it progressed through the maze; leaving an
understanding of full movement understanding (see Appendix C).
A solution to this was to complete and record all of the movements in a Microsoft Excel chart. The
chart would record how many movements the knight would have to take, how many steps were
required, whether to turn left 90o or turn right 90o and movements up or down. The decision was also
made to declare that each square the knight had completed, would be recorded as 1 step and whether
the knight turned or moved multiple steps, each procedure would be recorded as 1 movement (see
Appendix A).
Using this method, I created a cognitive solution or pathway to a complex maze. Its simplicity
produced a visual instruction on which directional momentum or pivot the knight would need to move
in order to reach the Princess in the centre of

The Importance Of Prosocial Behavior
Humans are inherently social being meaning they naturally tend to live in groups and that can consist
of both kin and nonkin. While humans do form communities there are conflicts that have and will
continue to occur because humans possess and exhibit traits both for and against prosocial behavior.
These antisocial traits continue to thrive in humans because it is working in conjunction with other
traits that are desired in humans or the trait themselves yields unexpected, but welcome behavior.
Morality, human s conscience that dictates right from wrong, balances these traits and encourages this
prosocial behavior, by enabling important inclinations such as cooperation and altruism that improve
human interactions. Generally speaking, actions that benefit the community will in turn benefit the
survival of that individual in the social environments constructed by humans. While there are methods
to both suppress unwanted tendencies and encourage wanted tendencies, Boehm focuses a significant
amount on these suppression techniques. The suppression of such bad behavior allows coherency in
the group.
This will cover a few key mechanisms of this suppression including the guidelines created by
societies, the regulation of them to uphold such ideals and some of the genetic forces that drive
evolution.
An important way to maintain a functioning society is to suppress the individuals who are unable to
abide by the social norm and therefore threaten to disrupt the balance and order of

Observing the Mega picture and Paradigm Shifts
The definition of paradigm shift is a fundamental change in approach or underlying assumptions. The
paradigm shift that John Mcphee refers to in Basin and Range is the transition from pre tectonic plate
geology also know as old geology and the geology after the introduction of the now widely accepted
plate tectonic theory. Mcphee uses geologist Kenneth Deffeyes as a focal point by observing how an
old geologist can work after such an upheaval in ideology. The paradigm shift caused everyday
geologist including Kenneth Deffeyes to focus on seeing the mega picture of earth instead of the
single picture that geologist have been examining ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was the first person to come up with the idea of Pangea. Kenneth Deffeyes is best known for his
discovery of a connection between what was happening on the seafloor and in the state of Nevada. His
first encounter with the concept of continental drift was when scientist J. Tuzo Wilson of The
University of Toronto and Fred Vine from Cambridge University published a paper which they
defined an oddly isolated piece of the mid ocean ridge off the coasts of Oregon and Washington. It
was a spreading center of what would eventually become known as Juan de Fuca Plate, one of the
smallest of all the crustal plates in the world. The volcanoes of the Cascades Mt. Hood, Mt. Rainier,
Mt.St. Helens, Glacier Peak were lined up behind its trench (Mcphee, Pg 136). This idea was only a
hypothesis at the time, but Deffeyes was eager to either confirm or disprove it. He made it very clear
that Continental drift is one hypothesis ill get seasick for (Mcphee, Pg.136). Deffeyes proximity to the
area in question and clearance to use high tech equipment made going on this voyage a no brainer.

his echo sounder tracing the profile of the bottom. The ridge axis rock, when he dredged it up, was

Western View Of Human Nature
This week we have learned about four different views of human nature. The two views that I found
most interesting were the the traditional western view and the Darwinian challenge to the traditional
western view. In the Darwinian challenge, Charles Darwin argued that humans developed from
nonhuman animals. The strengths of Darwin s arguments are that he used fossils to support his claims.
The fossils are real evidence that everyone can look at and examine and they do show how humans
have developed over the years. The weaknesses of his arguments are that he undermined the idea that
living things and their parts are designed for a purpose. The next argument I found interesting was the
the traditional western view. In this view Plato argues that

Tackling Chapter Summary
In a society that claims to strive for gender equality, would it be possible to apply measures in order to
put to an end the mutual exclusion created by both genders from a young age? In her book Tackling
Gender Inequality Raising Pupil Achievement, Christine Forde analyzes and critiques the policy and
strategies implemented to tackle gender inequality. Forde s work is still relevant to today s society as it
deals with issues such as the underachievement of boys making it a perfect text to study in order to
further understand the underlying causes and problems left to resolve. In this book review, we will be
objectively and critically looking at the main arguments within the text, the positive and negative
aspects of Forde s critique as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shows the reader the difficulty of the topic from the very start. This suggests that the educational
system will always be more favorable to a certain group within our society because of societal
expectations. It is also clear that because of the engrained stereotypes such as girls are all hardworking
(Forde, p.5) and boys are inevitably troublesome (Forde, p.5) complicates the task of creating a gender
equal curriculum and environment. This is why it is important to realize that gender in education
cannot only be evaluated as an individual variable, other factors (such as disability, poverty, religion...)
come into play and can affect one s education and identity. The first part of the book gives us
background knowledge on this issue.
Chapter two deals with distinct policies and strategies put in place since the 1970s in order to identify
common trends to tackle gender inequalities. Most of the policies mentioned in the text explain that
gender was a part of a more general inclusion policy and not dealt with explicitly (Forde, p.15) but all
do nevertheless try to create a positive ethos . In this chapter, it is shown that although policies did not
have a focus on gender, when children participated in gender played role (Forde, p.17) stereotypical
views would arise. Girls thought that boys got more attention and both boys and girls agreed that girls
were better learners (Forde, p.17) this emphasizes and

The Creation Is A Monster
1. Look up the word monster in multiple dictionaries in order to get a full understanding of what the
word means. Discuss in both literal and figurative terms whether the Creation is a monster.
The word monster means a being of unnatural size with unnatural features that is sometimes
imaginary and often causes fear due to wickedness, ugliness, and cruelty. In literal terms, the Creation
is a monster. Based on the definition, he is of unnatural size and features as the Creation is
characterized by its gigantic stature, and the deformity of its aspect (50). Further, people fear the
Creation due to his deformity as stated the unnatural hideousness of [his] person was the chief object
of horror with those who had formerly beheld [him]) (94). In further explanation, the Creation can
also be considered monstrous because he was responsible for the death of many people such as
William, Justine, and Henry. In figurative terms, however, the Creation is not entirely a monster.
Though he did intend to cause harm as he declares war against humans (97), much of his spite a
cruelty spurs from his lack of maturity and the environments he was faced with. The Creation came
into the world and was immediately faced with rejection. His own creator turned from him in disgust
(93) and the villagers he grew to love struck [him] violently with a stick (97). He had no friend and no

about how responsible Miles will be of Alaska s death since he will always think of the fact she is

Boy in the Striped Pyjamas Essay
John Boyne has created a sophisticated and meaningful novel in The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas
through his thematic analysis of power which explores society s perception of authority; his symbolic
representation of the fence which starkly exposes Bruno s ignorance of cultural divisions; and finally,
his characterisation of Mother revealing the fraught atmosphere during the Holocaust. The theme of
power is explored in this novel through authoritative figures and their presentation in society. The
character of Father displays his newfound sovereignty with ostentatiousness, and Bruno observes this
closely. He notes how Father s actions often lead to an instantaneous response, stating, Father held a

His innocence is so innate that he remarks to Gretel, I don t understand why we re not allowed on the
other side of it. What s so wrong with us that we can t go over there and play? Bruno s innocent
perspective contrasts with the cruelty occurring, questioning its value in a time when it was widely
accepted. Just as Bruno does not see the fence as a reason for segregation, so too are readers inspired
to eradicate the fences of prejudice wherever they exist in society today. The reflection this calls
readers to undertake produces a profundity and sophistication in the novel. The language used to
convey Bruno s misunderstanding of the fence s symbolism is simplistic. This literary technique,
employed by Boyne, assists in portraying the naivety of Bruno. Bruno s enquiry of What s so wrong
with us that we can t go over there and play? demonstrates how his juvenility shapes his view of the
world, and allows his friendship with Shmuel to flourish despite their division. Shmuel s concession
that they were all exactly the same really illustrates this fact. The boys exemplar of friendship
provided by their childish perspective encourages the audience to accept everyone, contributing to the
insightfulness of the book; and in this way, its meaning and sophistication. The characterisation of

Disney himself just shows how he felt his values were in good thought. But the problem is his movies

The crows in the movie Dumbo, furthermore, show racism. The blackbirds act in a manner
stereotypically assigned to Africans. (Joseph) The Lion King, Disney s most well known, loved, and
adored Classic, is racist. The members of the royal family speak with posh British accents while the
hyenas speak with a mixture of decidedly urban, black and Latino youth and the other animals in the
kingdom don t even talk. Coming to Aladdin, the song Arabian Nights is the most insulting out of
them all. The original lyrics state: Oh I come from a land From a far away place Where the caravan

Arab culture magnifies popular stereotypes already primed by the media through its portrayal of the

The Importance Of Plants In Canada
Plants are extremely important to the growth and development of Canada because as a source of food,
the country requires the nutrients the plants provide and they are irreplaceable. Plants are crucial as
they are a component of everything people eat, whether people eat the plants or the animal they eat or
get food from rely on plants. The more food and plants available to better the reproduction, and
therefore more population growth in communities. Having more food available for the entire
population has shown to decrease poverty and increase the overall development of the community (2).
In Canada, there is a large discrepancy between the food security of the southern provinces and
northern territories. This has stuck many northern Canadians in difficult situations when trying to buy
the proper food. There is also an economic factor of food and plants. In current society, most food in
imported from country to country, creating many economic benefits in countries that import food (3).
That money can be used to create a better community and country. On another level, plants and crops
also have religious and symbolic value in our culture, which helps to increase development on a social
level. Increases in variety and quantity can help to develop communities. Certain pants and foods help
to give communities and countries their identity. For example, many foods are crucial to our identity
like maple syrup. Overall, food and plants is extremely important to Canada as a society

My First Encounter With Pulleys
Let s talk about pulleys today! I have some pulleys here. Will anyone assemble them? My high school
physics teacher looked around our classroom.
I raised my hand, walked to the front of the classroom and took up a pulley. Bending down, I
concentrated hard on the system in front of me.
This scene brought me back to my first encounter with pulleys in the science center years ago. A voice
echoed in my mind loudly and clearly: Don t be obsessed and carry on! The story of that day started to
unfold before my eyes.
As I walked into the City Science Center, I found the very place which had appeared in my dream
hundreds of times: a large interactive science area. As I had always expected, the science center
included not only topics I was curious about, but also topics of which I had never heard. For a seven
year old, there was a lot to explore and I remember myself wishing I could try them all at once. So
after saying Cheese! perfunctorily in front of my mom s camera, I ran into the nearest exhibition
without any hesitation.
Tired of controlling the flow of the waterfall model with my voice, I noticed some other kids pushing
around small carts. They were building houses! I immediately joined the group. To build a balcony for
the house, I had to elevate building materials to the second floor. According to the instruction of the
project, I was supposed to achieve the task with the help of pulleys. How did pulleys work? How did I

build another made without hands. Upon Jesus death and resurrection, he completed this task setting

Texas Teen Affluenza Case Analysis
The story I chose for this week s discussion board happened in Forth worth Texas in in late 2013/early
2014 and it is about the Texas teen Affluenza case . The case was about Ethan Couch a 16 year old
boy in Forth worth Texas who while driving under the influence of alcohol,( alcohol that him and his

Ethan s lawyer hired a psychologist who testified that he was a victim of affluenza, the product of
wealthy, privileged parents who never set limits for the boy so cannot be held responsible for his
action because of that. Although, the Judge ruled for the plaintiffs, Ethan was sent to 10 year probation
in a rehab facility in Newport Beach

  • 2. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Universal Healthcare System Every healthcare system in existence has advantages and disadvantages. Each healthcare system benefits different populations. The universal healthcare system, however, is often believed to be one of the best healthcare systems in the world. It is questionable why this is presumed because this system has a number of flaws that creates challenges for doctors, families, and communities. Many people can find themselves frustrated due to long waiting lists and the seemingly apathetic work of physicians when it comes to the care of their patients. A previous 5 year resident of Canada experienced the challenges of the universal healthcare system first hand. In an interview, she declared that if someone needed to go to the doctor they had to plan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This has created a shortage of physicians within these rural areas, leaving many patients without a primary physician. Bazuik lived in Ontario for the five years she was in Canada. The closest big city being Toronto, seven hours away. During this time, she had two different physicians. She recalled, we did have a family physician, but some people did not and they were on a waiting list (Bazuik). These citizens are a part of the 1.5 million Ontarians (or 12 percent of that province s population) [that] can t find family physicians (Grazter). Outside of this province there are places all across Canada with the same issues. This lack of patient care is impacting citizens to stay in these areas and even Canada. Universal health care causes a chain of reactions within Canada. Before it begins to impact patients and families, the doctors are affected causing the most influential outcomes within the country. A survey done found that 55 per cent of doctors reported that their practices are being influenced by government driven policies rather than evidence based clinical medicine and 70 per cent of doctors reported that they are feeling attacked or vilified by the Canadian government (Gill). • 3. Ida B Wells Contributions To Society There are many people in history to be in admired. There are people that have made many contributions and sacrifices to/for our society. Sometimes these people are overlooked. They are not given the recognition that they deserve. Ida B Wells is someone that deserves recognition for her contribution to society. Ida B wells fought against and publicized the lynching of African Americans, fought in the women s suffrage movement, and in 1930, she ran for the Illinois state legislature, one of the first black women ever to run for public office. Wells Barnett was born in Holly Springs, Missouri, on July 16, 1862, the oldest of eight children in the Wells family. She attended Shaw University (later renamed Rust College), a school established for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Women demanded suffrage as early as 1848. Black women founded clubs that worked exclusively for woman s suffrage, such as the Alpha Suffrage Club of Chicago, founded by Ida B. Wells in 1913. Ida fought in the women s suffrage movement. On March 1913, as Wells prepared to join the suffrage parade through President Woodrow Wilson s inaugural celebration, organizers asked her to stay out of the procession: Some of the white suffragists, it seemed, refused to march alongside blacks. (Early suffrage activists had generally supported racial equality in fact, most had been abolitionists before they were feminists but by the beginning of the 20th century, that was rarely the case. In fact, many middle class white people embraced the suffragists cause because they believed that the enfranchisement of their women would guarantee white supremacy by neutralizing the black vote.) Wells joined the march anyway, but her experience showed that to many white suffragists, equality did not apply to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A Vision Of School Leadership A Vision of School Leadership in the 21st Century The responsibility of preparing today s students for tomorrow s future involves more than orchestrating the curriculum students learn and the teachers who teach it. It involves the ability to employ the leadership styles fluently based on the everyday demands of running a school (Goleman, 2000). Informed by both research and real world application, the Wallace Foundation identified five key functions of a successful leader: shaping a vision of academic success for all students, creating a climate hospitable to education, cultivating leadership in others, improving instruction, [and] managing people, data, and processes to foster school improvement (Harvey, 2013, pg. 4). To be an effective 21st century educational leader, one must cultivate a sustainable vision and school culture which are globally minded, yet locally applicable to the community they serve. Leaders need to adapt their leadership style to fit varying situations that occur in a school. Each of the six styles, coercive, authoritative, affiliative, democratic, pacesetting, and coaching have their time and place to be utilized and vary in effectiveness on the overall climate in a school (Goleman, 2000). As most of my educational experience has been centered around the democratic style of building consensus, I tend to demonstrate this style most often. From experience, this style leads to a positive environment as people feel listened to; however, sometimes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nailor Miller Motte College Online Critical Thinking GS235 Dr. Marshall Lloyd Earth Like Planets Introduction Do you believe that there is life on other planets? Better yet, do you believe that there is another planet that looks like earth? As far as I can remember, there has always been the question of is there life in outer space? The more planets found like HD40307g, the more they resemble earth with earth like characteristics (the spinning on its axis, having a night and a day, and orbiting in the habitable zone). Cinema of Attractions vs Narrative Cinema This essay will discuss both the Cinema of Attractions and Narrative Cinema and their origins in order to better understand the differences found between them in regards to the criteria to follow. This essay will highlight the role that the spectator plays, and the temporality that both the Cinema of Attractions and Narrative Cinema exhibit. Tom Gunning proposed the Continuity Model in order to better understand the beginning of film and the making of film. Méliès was one of the first directors to progress cinematic technology, which paved the way for narratives as style of film (Leveridge, 2012: 98). Cinema after 1906, according to Gunning, pushed towards the structure of linear narrative, and away from the immediacy of the spectacular image (Strauven, 1999: 387). Paradigms and their relation to the Spectator The Cinema of Attractions is based on an exhibitionist paradigm (Gunning, 2004: 44), where it seeks to knowingly addressing the spectator and provide its spectator with a series of views or selective information (Strauven, 1999: 49). The cinema of attractions existed primarily between the years 1895 and 1906 (Strauven, 1999: 38). Cinema of Attractions is concerned with the ability to display. Attractions wanted to show the here and now , interacting with its spectator with the aim of satisfying the audience s curiosity quickly (Gunning, 2004: 44). It displays current events, scenes form everyday life, composed scenes, vaudeville performances and also camera tricks (as pioneered by George Méliès). Cinema of Attractions aims to astonish its audience (Strauven, 1999: 50). through displaying, rather than amusing its audience through narrative content. This is seen in films such as G. Both Hanhan and Cuiqiao are attracted to the promises of the CR for a better life; especially intriguing to Cuiqiao are the promises of better equality for women that women under the CR can learn to read, write, and even fight. The Judicial Branch of the American government has potential to be the best protector of private property because it is highly insulated from rent seeking. However, its ability to protect can be compromised where it elects to defer to the legislative branch in making decisions like in cases where public use and eminent domain takings are argued. This inclination to defer to the legislatures hinders the Judicial Branch from reaching its full potential as protector of private property due to the fact that legislatures are not very insulated against rent seeking. To understand the judiciary s role as a private property protector, we must first understand what private property rights are, the motivation of the judiciary to protect these rights and the kind of power that the judiciary has at its disposal to successfully execute this role. To understand why this role maybe be compromised, we must take a look at the legislative branch and how rent seeking influences the laws that it passes. Through the process these internals I have applied skills that I have learnt in application software, operating systems, file management and digital ethics. This four standards were: 1.41 (Implement basic procedures to produce a specified digital information outcome) In this standard I was presented with a database of the food brought by students at the café which I then completed and produced a mail merge of the products brought to be sent to the costumer s parents. To do this I showed a variety of skills using Microsoft Excel and Word. 1.42/1.43 (Demonstrate understanding of basic concepts of digital media and to produce a specified digital media outcome) In this standard I applied my knowledge of the Big Four (Contrast, Repetition, Alignment and Proximity) as well as document layout to create a children s book. 1.50 (Demonstrate understand of the common components of digital infrastructures) In this standard I used my knowledge of digital infrastructures to install and operating system which included drives and utilities on the personal computer I had built in standard 1.51. 1.51 (Implement basic procedures for servicing a personal computer system) In this standard I used my knowledge about servicing personal computer systems to find and fix problems in both hardware and software. • 26. A Route Through A Maze Solution 1, The solution for Problem Set 1, required a route through a maze. Elkner et al. (2010) suggested that, A program is a sequence of instructions that specifies how to perform a computation. Given this information, it was concluded that rules and disciplines were required in order for the knight to understand and process any instructions given to it. Having prior knowledge that the knight would foremost, need a full understanding of movement as a program platform, it was evaluated, that rotational 360o axis was attached as a second layer to the maze, this accommodated to calculate how many degrees the knight would need to turn as it progressed through the maze; leaving an understanding of full movement understanding (see Appendix C). A solution to this was to complete and record all of the movements in a Microsoft Excel chart. The chart would record how many movements the knight would have to take, how many steps were required, whether to turn left 90o or turn right 90o and movements up or down. The decision was also made to declare that each square the knight had completed, would be recorded as 1 step and whether the knight turned or moved multiple steps, each procedure would be recorded as 1 movement (see Appendix A). Using this method, I created a cognitive solution or pathway to a complex maze. Its simplicity produced a visual instruction on which directional momentum or pivot the knight would need to move in order to reach the Princess in the centre of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. The Importance Of Prosocial Behavior Humans are inherently social being meaning they naturally tend to live in groups and that can consist of both kin and nonkin. While humans do form communities there are conflicts that have and will continue to occur because humans possess and exhibit traits both for and against prosocial behavior. These antisocial traits continue to thrive in humans because it is working in conjunction with other traits that are desired in humans or the trait themselves yields unexpected, but welcome behavior. Morality, human s conscience that dictates right from wrong, balances these traits and encourages this prosocial behavior, by enabling important inclinations such as cooperation and altruism that improve human interactions. Generally speaking, actions that benefit the community will in turn benefit the survival of that individual in the social environments constructed by humans. While there are methods to both suppress unwanted tendencies and encourage wanted tendencies, Boehm focuses a significant amount on these suppression techniques. The suppression of such bad behavior allows coherency in the group. This will cover a few key mechanisms of this suppression including the guidelines created by societies, the regulation of them to uphold such ideals and some of the genetic forces that drive evolution. An important way to maintain a functioning society is to suppress the individuals who are unable to abide by the social norm and therefore threaten to disrupt the balance and order of ... Observing The Mega Picture And Paradigm Shift Jason Weinhaus 9/20/16 Martin Wells Comparative Planetology Observing the Mega picture and Paradigm Shifts The definition of paradigm shift is a fundamental change in approach or underlying assumptions. The paradigm shift that John Mcphee refers to in Basin and Range is the transition from pre tectonic plate geology also know as old geology and the geology after the introduction of the now widely accepted plate tectonic theory. Mcphee uses geologist Kenneth Deffeyes as a focal point by observing how an old geologist can work after such an upheaval in ideology. Kenneth Deffeyes is best known for his discovery of a connection between what was happening on the seafloor and in the state of Nevada. His first encounter with the concept of continental drift was when scientist J. Tuzo Wilson of The University of Toronto and Fred Vine from Cambridge University published a paper which they defined an oddly isolated piece of the mid ocean ridge off the coasts of Oregon and Washington. It was a spreading center of what would eventually become known as Juan de Fuca Plate, one of the smallest of all the crustal plates in the world. The volcanoes of the Cascades Mt. Hood, Mt. Rainier, Mt.St. Helens, Glacier Peak were lined up behind its trench (Mcphee, Pg 136). This idea was only a hypothesis at the time, but Deffeyes was eager to either confirm or disprove it. He made it very clear that Continental drift is one hypothesis ill get seasick for (Mcphee, Pg.136). Deffeyes proximity to the area in question and clearance to use high tech equipment made going on this voyage a no brainer. • 29. Western View Of Human Nature This week we have learned about four different views of human nature. The two views that I found most interesting were the the traditional western view and the Darwinian challenge to the traditional western view. In the Darwinian challenge, Charles Darwin argued that humans developed from nonhuman animals. The strengths of Darwin s arguments are that he used fossils to support his claims. The fossils are real evidence that everyone can look at and examine and they do show how humans have developed over the years. The weaknesses of his arguments are that he undermined the idea that living things and their parts are designed for a purpose. The next argument I found interesting was the the traditional western view. In this view Plato argues that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Tackling Chapter Summary In a society that claims to strive for gender equality, would it be possible to apply measures in order to put to an end the mutual exclusion created by both genders from a young age? In her book Tackling Gender Inequality Raising Pupil Achievement, Christine Forde analyzes and critiques the policy and strategies implemented to tackle gender inequality. Forde s work is still relevant to today s society as it deals with issues such as the underachievement of boys making it a perfect text to study in order to further understand the underlying causes and problems left to resolve. In this book review, we will be objectively and critically looking at the main arguments within the text, the positive and negative aspects of Forde s critique as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This shows the reader the difficulty of the topic from the very start. This suggests that the educational system will always be more favorable to a certain group within our society because of societal expectations. It is also clear that because of the engrained stereotypes such as girls are all hardworking (Forde, p.5) and boys are inevitably troublesome (Forde, p.5) complicates the task of creating a gender equal curriculum and environment. This is why it is important to realize that gender in education cannot only be evaluated as an individual variable, other factors (such as disability, poverty, religion...) come into play and can affect one s education and identity. The first part of the book gives us background knowledge on this issue. Chapter two deals with distinct policies and strategies put in place since the 1970s in order to identify common trends to tackle gender inequalities. Most of the policies mentioned in the text explain that gender was a part of a more general inclusion policy and not dealt with explicitly (Forde, p.15) but all do nevertheless try to create a positive ethos . In this chapter, it is shown that although policies did not have a focus on gender, when children participated in gender played role (Forde, p.17) stereotypical views would arise. Girls thought that boys got more attention and both boys and girls agreed that girls were better learners (Forde, p.17) this emphasizes and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. The Creation Is A Monster 1. Look up the word monster in multiple dictionaries in order to get a full understanding of what the word means. Discuss in both literal and figurative terms whether the Creation is a monster. The word monster means a being of unnatural size with unnatural features that is sometimes imaginary and often causes fear due to wickedness, ugliness, and cruelty. In literal terms, the Creation is a monster. Based on the definition, he is of unnatural size and features as the Creation is characterized by its gigantic stature, and the deformity of its aspect (50). Further, people fear the Creation due to his deformity as stated the unnatural hideousness of [his] person was the chief object of horror with those who had formerly beheld [him]) (94). In further explanation, the Creation can also be considered monstrous because he was responsible for the death of many people such as William, Justine, and Henry. In figurative terms, however, the Creation is not entirely a monster. Though he did intend to cause harm as he declares war against humans (97), much of his spite a cruelty spurs from his lack of maturity and the environments he was faced with. The Creation came into the world and was immediately faced with rejection. His own creator turned from him in disgust (93) and the villagers he grew to love struck [him] violently with a stick (97). He had no friend and no one teach him that killing was wrong no matter how much emotions get the better of one. Much of this violent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Boy in the Striped Pyjamas Essay John Boyne has created a sophisticated and meaningful novel in The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas through his thematic analysis of power which explores society s perception of authority; his symbolic representation of the fence which starkly exposes Bruno s ignorance of cultural divisions; and finally, his characterisation of Mother revealing the fraught atmosphere during the Holocaust. The theme of power is explored in this novel through authoritative figures and their presentation in society. The character of Father displays his newfound sovereignty with ostentatiousness, and Bruno observes this closely. His innocence is so innate that he remarks to Gretel, I don t understand why we re not allowed on the other side of it. What s so wrong with us that we can t go over there and play? Bruno s innocent perspective contrasts with the cruelty occurring, questioning its value in a time when it was widely accepted. Just as Bruno does not see the fence as a reason for segregation, so too are readers inspired to eradicate the fences of prejudice wherever they exist in society today. The reflection this calls readers to undertake produces a profundity and sophistication in the novel. The language used to convey Bruno s misunderstanding of the fence s symbolism is simplistic. This literary technique, employed by Boyne, assists in portraying the naivety of Bruno. Bruno s enquiry of What s so wrong with us that we can t go over there and play? demonstrates how his juvenility shapes his view of the world, and allows his friendship with Shmuel to flourish despite their division. Shmuel s concession that they were all exactly the same really illustrates this fact. The boys exemplar of friendship provided by their childish perspective encourages the audience to accept everyone, contributing to the insightfulness of the book; and in this way, its meaning and sophistication. Plants are crucial as they are a component of everything people eat, whether people eat the plants or the animal they eat or get food from rely on plants. The more food and plants available to better the reproduction, and therefore more population growth in communities. Having more food available for the entire population has shown to decrease poverty and increase the overall development of the community (2). In Canada, there is a large discrepancy between the food security of the southern provinces and northern territories. This has stuck many northern Canadians in difficult situations when trying to buy the proper food. There is also an economic factor of food and plants. In current society, most food in imported from country to country, creating many economic benefits in countries that import food (3). That money can be used to create a better community and country. On another level, plants and crops also have religious and symbolic value in our culture, which helps to increase development on a social level. We heard Him say, I will destroy this temple made with hands, and within three days build another made without hands. Upon Jesus death and resurrection, he completed this task setting forth the development of Christianity. Since Jesus left no formal authoritative power, organization, or agreed upon scriptures, a wide variety of sects gained popularity in the development of Christianity. Most of these sects were later deemed as heretic, one of the most notable being Gnosticism. Gnosticism was a dualist religion believing the material world evil and the invisible spirit realm good. This belief obligated Gnosticism to follow Docetic interpretations. Docetism is the belief that Jesus was never truly man but rather a divine from the spirit world.
