Cultural Development And Human Development
Evolutionary importance of Culture as a Hominin Adaptation Human beings have reached the epitome
of civilization, technological advancement and coexistence through cultural evolution. They have been
able to learn new trades over time that have improved societies and sharpened skills that are passed
down from generation to generation. The abilities that humans utilize to improve their social lives
have evolved from the very early times of the hominids. Cultural behavior grew extensively from the
era of the homo habilis and the homo rudolfensis. Hominids recognized the importance of adaptation
and organization as a means of survival. The skills and tools developed did not depend on intelligence
but rather improved social organization. Survival required a coordinated approach where information
could be shared amongst hominids with a similar cultural behavior. They required a means of being
able to alter their environments rather than adjusting their bodily functions, which was provided by
culture (Bruner 2004). Culture was able to prove vital to hominin adaptation through gaining ability to
plan, territorial organization and development of practices such as monogamy that facilitated its
existence. One way in which cultural importance aided hominids is through isolation from groups with
different behaviors like the Australopithecus and connecting with those that did. The early man had
begun associating itself with groups that showed similarity such as hunting style. Groups

The Theory And Identity Theory, And Deal With The Multiple...
To quote Karl Popper, Every solution to a problem, raises another unsolved problem (Williams, 2003,
p. 2). It has been a topic debated for centuries, still, a definitive solution is yet to be found that
universally satisfies the problem of mind brain identity. The most logical answer comes in the form of
monism. Therefore in this paper I will argue that the mind and the brain are identical, as the mind
exists only as a property of the brain. David Lewis and D.M Armstrong give support for the causal
relationship between mind and brain states in the form of the identity theory, and deal with the
multiple realisability argument provided by Hillary Putman. Gottlob Frege provides his support for
materialism by showing that mental states are determined by the function of the brain, while
discounting Thomas Nagel s argument which proposes the idea of Qualia. Both the functionalist
theory and identity theory reach agreement on the materialistic view that the mind and brain are of the
same substance.
The Identity theory maintains a monistic belief by considering states of mind as being
indistinguishable to brain states. Mental experiences including feeling pain, and possessing mental
images are not correlated with, but in fact are brain processes (Smart, 2007). When dealing with the
question of whether the mind and brain are identical, identity theorists differentiate between two
forms, Type Identity and Token Identity (Schneider). Token Identity theory considers that mental

History Of Druidism
There seems to be a lot of conflicting information as to where exactly Druidism originates and what
sort of practices they experienced. Most of what was learned of Druidism was communicated orally,
which is a major reason I believe as to why there is so many missing elements or inconsistent
information. Across the board people mainly agree that it began in Europe. From some writings of
Julius Caesar, people had believed it began in Britain. Druidism is a religion that is practiced by the
Celts or Celtic people. The genealogy of the Druids begins roughly 25,000 years ago when any of the
first demonstration of any sacred or spiritual practices were discovered in Europe (The order of Bards
Ovates and Druids, A Brief History of Druidry, par 1). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After my research I have found that Druidry is more of a spiritual path than anything, concentrating
mostly on being animists (the belief that nature is enlivened or energized by distinct personalized
spirit beings separate from bodies). Druids tend to rejoice and meditate outside becoming one with
nature, though this is not the only way for the Druids (The Order of Bards Ovates and Druids, Druid
Beliefs, par 2). Since the core motivation of this group is nature...they consider themselves to be
healers and teachers, this is one thing that all who follow Druidism have in common, but not all
Druids have the same set of beliefs as far as whether a God is involved. After learning about
monotheism, animists and polytheism in Chapter 13 of our Cultural Anthropology textbook just
recently, I had also learned that there are monotheistic and polytheistic Druids. Monotheism being the
belief of only one supremely powerful divinity as creator and master of the universe and polytheism
being the belief in multiple gods or goddesses (Cultural Anthropology: The Human Challenge,

The Assassination Of Abraham Lincoln Essay
Sic Semper Tyrannis or Thus always I bring death to tyrants were the famous words of Confederate
actor John Wilkes Booth after he shot President Lincoln at Ford s Theatre. The assassination of
Abraham Lincoln was a devastating event that will be forever remembered in the hearts of all
American citizens. On April 20, 1999 in Littleton, Colorado, Booth s words became a part of another
American tragedy; Columbine high school was the setting for arguably one of the most infamous
school shootings in the history of America. Two average American boys, Dylan Klebold and Eric
Harris would make Columbine high school one of the most famous in the world by taking aim at their
peers and teachers, yet few people know that the notorious shooting was originally planned to be a
massive bombing. One of the boys wore a shirt under his trench coat with the infamous words blazen
on the front to guarantee that their message was understood they were seeking what they considered as
justice when they were setting off bombs in their high school. The school shooting was not the
original plan for the two seniors, Harris and Klebold had planned to blow their high school to
smithereens. Firearms were suppose to play only a small part the attack or what the boys called
Judgement Day. Jefferson County Police Department, the local department that handled the case, has
recently released the journals of the two shooters; the journals include detailed itineraries for the
attack and all of the trials

Post Spanish American War Period
The post spanish american war period was a time of many changes in the US physically and mentally.
During this time period the United States showed many examples of expansionism like they had
earlier in the creation of the country but it also showed that the country was attempting to depart away
from imperialism somewhat. The mindset of the American government and public was similar to the
mindsets of those that were before them after the revolutionary war. For example, we attempted to
gain more land and resources such as Cuba, Puerto Rico, Guam and The Philippines these actions
were close to how we pushed and took all the land of those who were in the area but it was also
different because we did not force people out of the area we were attempting to control we just wanted
more influence and control of that area.
To start off, in this period of time america was in a mode of vast expansionism. This expansionism
was clear to see and similar to what we had done in the past with the land that is now america. In the

It is also wrong to say that the United States was the only ones attempting to expand their control. In
the comic The World s Plunders it is seen that Britain, Germany and Russia are attempting to take
anything on the globe by simply picking it up and putting it in their Grab bag . This shows that the
powerful countries could simply point at any country/land area and simply call it their own or
becoming their governing force. Similar to what the United States did after the Spanish American war.
In the other comic American Diplomacy it shows uncle sam in front of a gate to China. He is holding
the keys and many other country men are around the gate. The comic is attempting to say that the way
into China is through the United States. Our expansionism had gotten to the point where we controlled
other countries markets and who they traded

Failure Of The Shlieffen Moltke Plan
The Schlieffen Moltke Plan; which was originally drawn up by Alfred von Schlieffen and reshaped by
Helmuth von Moltke the Younger, failed to achieve its objectives in September 1914 was due to the
changes of the original Schlieffen Plan implemented by Moltke the Younger, and his poor leadership
shown throughout the execution of the plan The objective of the Schlieffen Moltke plan; which was a
planned offensive assault by the German Empire, was to advance through Belgium and enter France
through the Northern border. Once Belgium was defeated, the Germans wished to quickly overtake the
French and move quickly to fight the Russians before they could mobilize. However, the plan turned
into a major disaster due to the alterations that Moltke made before the Schlieffen Moltke Plan s
execution, as well as the revisions made during the offensive. His changes allowed the Allies to
prepare for this assault, and counter the attack. An issue that Moltke and the German army
encountered was that the Belgian army would not allow them to march through without resistance.
Moltke attempted to persuade the Belgian King Albert to grant the German army access through their
country prior to the invasion. The request, however, failed to succeed as the Belgian King Albert
declined, and did not allow the Germans to flow freely through their country. This led to a pre emptive
attack on neutral Belgium, which effectively brought Great Britain into the war. The resistance that the
Belgian s showed in

Equal In Walt Whitman s Song Of Myself
In the poem Song of Myself Walt Whitman, the author of this poem states that all individuals are the
same because everything is made from the same thing. Born here of parents born here from parents
the same, and their parents the same (11.7). This example is proving that everyone is equal, no one is
better than anyone, and everyone is made of the same thing. This supports the assertions by letting the
readers know that everyone is equal. This is important because others may think that they re above
others because they re a specific race or skin color, but in reality, everyone is the same, no one is
above or better than anyone. For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you (11.3). This
quote is saying that everyone is made of atoms,

The Importance Of College For College
Choosing a college is stressful and the pressure to make the right decision can become overwhelming.
When determining which college to attend, college expenses become a primary focus for families,
many times outweighing the preferred educational institution. My first choice for out of state colleges
is San Diego State University and my preferred choice for an in state college is the University of
Arizona. While researching and comparing which college is the favored institution for me to attend,
there are many financial considerations that are imperative to making an educated decision including:
base tuition, the application fee required for admission, the cost of books, the distance from home and
travel costs, the climate, the cost of food, housing and other necessities.
The five major methods of paying for college are: paying out of pocket; scholarships; grants; loans;
and work study. My first and preferred approach to pay for college is the look to my parents for tuition
payment. Education is extremely important to my family, my parents have provided me with an
excellent education attending Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Grade School and Xavier College
Preparatory, a private Catholic High School. My parents have always saved for my educational
expenses, and set aside money in a 529 college fund savings account. Monies in a 529 are invested in
a tax deferred account and marked specifically for college tuition, books and other education related
expenses (Dickler). In the

Condoleezza Rice Essay
Condoleezza Rice
Not many people can add the position of National Security Advisor to their list of achievements,
especially if those people are women. Condoleezza Rice, however, can place the accomplishment right
up there with being a previous member of President Bush s foreign policy team, and tenured professor
and provost in the political science department of the prestigious Stanford University.
Rice is well known for her knowledge on Russian history and current events. After growing up in
Birmingham, Alabama during a time of racial segregation, Rice soon went on to graduate from the
University of Denver at the age of 19 (she skipped two grades), where she became an expert in the
issues of the Soviet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a 45 year old African American woman, Condaleezza Rice definitely has some opposition to face.
Still, Rice has proven herself to be anything but a pushover. President Bush says Dr. Rice is not only a
brilliant person; she is an experienced person. She is a good manager. I trust her judgment. America
will find that she is a wise person, and I m honored [she joined] the administration .
Rice also shows strong opinions concerning what it means to be American, and how America fits
within the realm of the rest of the world. Power matters. But there can be no absence of moral content
in American foreign policy, and furthermore, the American people wouldn t accept such an absence.
Europeans giggle at this and say we re naive and so on, but we re not Europeans, we re Americans and
we have different principles .
Rice considers herself completely Republican in all issues. With regards to foreign policy, she sees
herself as conservative. On other issues, however, she views herself as libertarian and moderate. Still,
Ms. Rice is considered less isolationist than some leading Republicans... She has said she will work to
promote Mr. Bush s vision of combining humility with strength around the world .

The Character Of Hester Prynne
Hester Prynne is the protagonist of The Scarlet Letter, a novel written by Nathaniel Hawthorne. She
was a beautiful woman who, because of her adultery, experienced persecution and was ostracized by
everyone in her town. Her shame and guilt gave her an understanding of sin and redemption. She
serves as an example of someone who is rejected by society and, because of it, grows in both strength
and wisdom. Hester s sin overshadowed her beauty and talent, but her humble and generous deeds
gained her respect over many years.
The author established that Hester was a beautiful woman: The young woman was tall, with a figure
of perfect elegance, on large scale. She had dark and abundant hair, so glossy that it threw off the
sunshine with a gleam, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First of all, she was terribly ashamed of herself. Everywhere she went, people mocked her and told her
that she was the biggest sinner of them all. Hester felt completely bound to the letter she wore, but she
learned a few things from it. She grew in wisdom and gained an understanding of guilt; she could see
the sin and hypocrisy in the community around her. She also grew in strength, as she decided not to let
her shame bring her down. Hester was very talented at sewing, and she used that skill to make clothes
and linen for the townsfolk. She was very generous with her money and sewing, often giving food and
clothing to the poor of her town. Over the years, she became known for these deeds. As she walked
through town, the people began to view her with respect. They even viewed the scarlet letter A
differently, theorizing that it may mean able. While Hester managed to purge the pain and guilt out of
her, she did so at the expense of her womanhood and beauty: All the light and graceful foliage of her
character had been withered up by his red hot brand, and had long ago fallen away, leaving a bare and
harsh outline, which might have been repulsive, had she possessed friends or companions to be
repelled by it. Even the attractiveness of her person had undergone a similar change. It might be partly
owing to the studied austerity of her dress, and partly to the lack of

Journal 1 During my English 1302 class, our instructor assigned us to read a short story called, The
Cats of the Ulthar. As I read this story, my thoughts about the reading was very unexpected as to what
kind of stories I m used to reading for English classes. The short story was very peculiar, and odd
since I was reading a tale about an old couple who kills cats. My perspective on this story was that it s
similar to a fairy tale since they both have evil characters that play a major role in the story telling. I
viewed the old couple as folkloric characters that are usually featured in fairy tales for the reason that
most fairy tale movies or books show the evil character losing in the end. Moreover, the old couple

Economic Traditionalism As The Antithesis Of Economic...
Economic traditionalism is essentially the antithesis of modern capitalism. Within this framework,
work was viewed as a necessary evil (Kalberg 2011a: p. 418). It was simply the means through which
people acquire the economic needs necessary for survival. Therefore, work and money did not take
precedence over one s family, community, and leisure. The tasks themselves were based on custom
and tradition, and were independent of the individual himself. That is, work did not constitute one s
self identity. Luther was an extreme proponent of this ideology. He was suspicious of wealth and
asserted that money should only be enough to live a life of integrity. Weber ([1905] 2011) describes
Luther s reservation:
Luther was convinced that people of every status can become saved...Therefore, the striving for
material gain that goes beyond one s own needs, Luther argues, must be a symptom of one s lack of
grace. Indeed, because striving for gain appears to be possible only at the expense of others, this
pursuit must be viewed as an unequivocal abomination. (P. 103)
Thus, Luther was critical of those who utilized work to feed their avarice. Instead, asceticism was
highly valued; as people were advised to renounce gluttony and avoid succumbing to their physical
and sensual pleasures. Luther was also wary of those who attempted to venture outside of their calling.
This was viewed as tinkering with God s will and undermining His plan for the individual s salvation.
Therefore, the

Nation At Risk Gave Rise To Two Major Education Reform
Nation at Risk gave rise to two major education reform movements; accountability and school choice.
Federal government started thinking about testing, and standardization, which resulted in No Child
Left Behind (NCLB), and Race to the Top. McGuinn s No Child Left Behind (NCLB), describes the
politics of accountability as setting a standard for teachers, testing students to see if the schools meet
the set standards, and then holding the schools and teachers accountable for not achieving those
standards by creating consequences. George W. Bush, a Republican made NCBL a nationwide issue.
Unions and districts opposed accountability because testing could be grounds for firing teachers and

M. Freedman s idea was to apply the free market to the education system and allow the schools to
compete for the kids business. Unlike accountability, which was watered down after collaborating
work with unions, charters are rarely unionized. School choice got its impetus from the poor
minorities because they wanted better schools, while accountability was supported by businesses.
In Milwaukie during 1990s, local leaders mobilized disgruntled parents that were dissatisfied with
their education system resulting in the adoption school choice. When accountability was adopted,
there was a coalition of support, however choice was opposed on all fronts by the teachers unions,
NAACP, and Democrats. Unlike accountability adopted nationwide, choice was disproportionately
opposed at the state and local level. Reformers where up against teachers unions and districts who
avidly opposed choice. When opposition could not stop choice, they would try to help created the
structure by implementing ceilings/caps, making sure that charters did not get as much money as
public schools, and forcing charters to build their own buildings. Unions oppose choice because it
creates competition and the current system creates a consistent supply of kids whether the school is
good or bad. Choice allows kids to leave bad schools forcing the teachers to perform better, and
potentially putting teachers jobs at risk. The districts opposed choice

Apple Sourcing Analysis
The Sourcing Plan Rafdahl (2014) believed that strategic sourcing is critical for a business to remain

Market Analysis. Rafdahl (2014) asserted that companies should have a list not only of incumbent
suppliers, but also potential alternative ones. In line with this assertion, it is significant for Apple Inc.
to know suppliers which have good service reputations. Further, the company must also determine
what the suppliers can offer, such as its expertise to meet Apple s high standard and its ability to fulfill
both the present and future needs. Apart from these, the suppliers should consistently deliver quality
products and services, and promote ideas and products that would advance Apple s competitiveness,
profitability, and success. 4. Strategy. Although Apple s strategy is already commendable, it is
necessary for the company to develop strategies to meet the changing conditions of business. Rafdahl

Technology And The Military Technology
Insurgent technology though not as advanced as the military technology was arguably more effective.
The insurgent s use of ingenious bomb technology was extremely effective against the U.S. civilians,
U.S. soldiers, and the Iraqi people. It was effective against U.S. civilians because it made them want
the war to stop so that the soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan would leave, which is the goal of any
insurgency. A bomb s ability to destroy a target depends on two things: its explosive power and its
accuracy. (Kaplan, 13). While the U.S. military was using satellites and lasers to accomplish this, the
insurgents were using simpler means which created the same results, and since they often did not care

Using a VBIED an insurgent could ram into a checkpoint, military outpost, or civilian center killing
large amounts of people, and oftentimes being nearly unstoppable unless the driver was shot.
Roadside IEDs were dangerous as well, set off by pressure plates, wires, cellphones, and a seemingly
endless amount of other ways men like Brian Castner had to risk their lives to dispose of these.
Castner notes that, Every other heavy foam chunk held an EFP, an explosively formed projectile a
steel and copper and explosive mix that punctures armor and splatters molten metal. (Castner, 14). It is
also important to consider the mental toll that these low tech insurgent weapons have on the minds of
those affected by them. Throughout the entirety of his book Brian Castner struggles with the mental
affects that the war had on him. However, neither of these touch on the effect these attacks have on the
Iraqi people. Living under the threat of constant war will damage anyone, but examples of the effect
that the war had on the civilians can be seen in Restreppo and the Hurt Locker . In Restreppo , we see
the a family seemingly scarred from an airstrike, and in the Hurt Locker we see people panicking and
running as the Iraqi police clear them out when an IED is found. Using these three and countless

anything productive. In addition to these brewing issues, Peter s boss, Bill Lumbergh, is known for

Network Performance Quality Of Service Project Report
The aim of this project is to investigate and implement a standardised way to monitor and improve
quality of service for a user with devices connected to the internet of things. Although there are
several papers referring to the need for this, any implementation has been on an ad hoc bases for
specific devices/issues and not rolled out as a standard approach.
The approach this project is taking is to implement an algorithm which will monitor a network and
work to improve its quality or service through different protocols. It will not be specific to just one
application and the end goal would be the algorithm working with all types of IoT devices and handle
a range of issues. 2. The Problem
Network performance Quality of Service (QoS) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is therefore interesting that this area remains to be unstandardized today.
The researcher in this paper proposes that the problem is responded to by a QoS architecture based on
IoT layered structure. This architecture sets QoS agent in lower layers then transmits QoS
requirements, trying to guarantee the consistency as well as effectively use the existing QoS
mechanisms in every layer. (Duan, Chen and Xing, 2011)
Other research suggests that the integration between IoT and other technologies such as Cloud
Computing is in its infantile phase and it has not been extended to all application domains due to its
inadequate quality of service architecture. (T, S and A, 2015) . We see here the lack of QoS in the IoT
also has an impact on the future and extendibility of the IoT. Within this area of QoS, which continues
to be actively researched, there is still a gap in any currently available solution. This project aims to
contribute to this gap.
3. The Proposed Solution
The proposed solution is to develop a protocol, a set of rules, to monitor application performance and
the real time state of the network in the Internet of Things (IoT). The objective of this ruleset is to
achieve Quality of Service (QoS) from the network perspective and Quality of Experience (QoE) from
the user perspective. This ruleset will support a range of devices and applications in the IoT. There
will also be consideration taken into

The Death of Julius Caesar, a Great Leader
Julius Caesar was a great leader of Rome. Not only did he lead a very strong army, but his people also
loved him. The debate is always should he have been killed or should he have lived and lead us to
more victories.
The first document that was used in the debate is a primary source. It s called De Vita Caesarum,
Divus Iulius. The document is a biography of Julius Caesar and his life. Suetonius wrote the
biography. Suetonius was a roman historian who wrote about the Roman Empire. It was written in 110
CE. It was written to show the side of the senators, and how they felt about having emperors. It is
trustworthy because Suetonius used eyewitnesses and other evidence from books to provide a lot of
information about Caesar. The only thing that I think is missing is the side of Caesar because he wrote
it from the perspective of the senators view. Which puts Caesar in a bad light because the senators did
not like Caesar. Considering that the article was written based off of the senators, it put Caesar in a
bad light. Meaning that this author did not want Caesar to live. Another document that was used was a
secondary source. It was an article written in the Britannica Student Encyclopedia. It was written for
the public to read and understand Julius Caesar. It was used to give a brief overview of Julius Caesar s
life. It talked about him as a person, the civil war that he was involved with, the march he lead, as well
as his reputation. The article is moderately trustworthy

Heterogeneous Limitations
Researchers concluded that there were heterogeneous limitations incorporated in this study. First,
sampling was limited to speciļ¬c jurisdictions served by one probation ofļ¬ce. As a result, there was a
lack of generalizability among the data and ļ¬ndings. Given the community background of the sample,
it was indefinite whether the results were generalizable to other areas and probation ofļ¬ces. Similarly,
the limited sampling jurisdiction restricted the ability to collect comprehensive neighborhood data.
Secondly, although this evaluation procured a randomized treatment design, the inability to implement
the Decide Your Time system as a mechanism for randomizing cases without requiring probationers
consent delayed the data collection. As a result, limited information (theoretically significant
variables) was collected on clients educational background, socioeconomic status, rapport with their
Probation Officers, severity of drug use, and prior participation in drug treatment, living arrangements,
and personal relationships. This data would have permitted a more robust analysis, and future

Soon to be tech industries leaders, Steve Jobs and Bill Gates were also members of the club,
eventually leaving to start their respective companies. This eventually became the home of the Apple I
computer, pioneered by Steve Wozniak and supported by Steve Jobs. Beginning as a project in
Wozniak s spare time, it eventually developed into the first product of Apple Personal Computers Inc.,
launching in 1976. It a utilized a 6502 processor: a clone of the 6800 by MOS Technologies, soon to
be the basis of the Nintendo Entertainment System CPU in future decades. It also featured a working
keyboard and text video output, but required extensive assembly.
In 1974, Federico Faggin a member of the team that had worked on the original Intel 4004 MPU left
Intel to found Zilog. With funding from Exxon Corporation (a subsidiary of Exxon Enterprises), Zilog
was able to produce its first microprocessor, the Z80. It implemented and expanded version of the
existing Intel 8080 instruction set, allowing programs already written for the popular Intel CPU to be
easily ported to the platform. However, the Z80 also provided increased performance and flexibility
and a fraction of the cost, leading to its eventual dominance in the desktop computer market.
Also in 1974, the first popular operating system was released: Control Program for Microcomputers or

The Use of Art by Those in Power
Art has more meaning behind it than just being a picture; it can function in society by symbolizing
power. In this essay I am going to discuss in what ways art communicates power and help to manage
nations and empires.
The use of art as a tool for those in power started in different times and also in different cultures. An
ancient gravesite near Stonehenge revealed the grave of the Amesbury Arche in 2002 his grave was
different to those previously found near the site, What made him interesting was the gold hair tresses,
which are the oldest cast of gold in Britain, and the fact that he was a from the region that is now
Germany. The treasures in his grave show a man of status. Art for personal appearance, like these hair
clasps, mad him have a higher status then his peers. This gold, created the image of a leader. So it was
learned early on in human history that art as personal appearance enhanced your status.
As time progressed, in other parts of the ancient world art became a political tool; kings competed for
more dazzling adornments for their appearances. As kingdoms began to become bigger the kings
started to face communication issues and Darius the Great of Persia was one of them, he ruled over 20
nations from Persepolis. As many people from his nation could not read, Darius then had stone reliefs
created that combined styles from all over the empire, these carvings showed each nation bring
tributes to their king. These cravings showed a sign of respect and these

The World s Total Fertility Rate
What to Expect When No One is Expecting Reflective Analysis As our global population count
continues to exponentially climb, many people are under the impression the world is overpopulated. A
lot of society wonders how we will be able to sustain such a large population. An overpopulated planet
could cause or enhance problems such as natural resource depletion, global climate change, and
starvation. The majority of people believe overpopulation is our world s most crucial problem,
including me. Or at least I did before I read What to Expect When No One is Expecting. This book
definitely made me think twice. What to Expect When No One is Expecting, by Jonathan Last, argues
how overpopulation will not be a challenge for future generations. In fact, the book shares how
married couples are not having enough babies. Statistically, in the last forty years, the world s total
fertility rate (TFR) has decreased from 6.0 to 2.52. Meaning, the average woman is having 4.48 less
children in her lifetime. At first glance, this statistic seems like a good thing, but in reality it is
expected to have a devastating effect. What to Expect When No One is Expecting convinced me the
world doesn t have an overpopulation problem by explaining how economics is a major cause of the
lowered fertility rates, and consequently, because there are less babies, the economy will take the
biggest hit. Today, in America, the TFR stands at 1.93 and continues to fall. However, the average

Human Nature In Lord Of The Flies Analysis
William Golding fulfills Hobbes ideas about man with Lord of the Flies when Ralph and Jack battle
over chief authority, when Simon gets killed, and when the boys turn savage against each other.
An example of Golding supporting Hobbes s ideas about human nature is when Jack was trying to get
the boys to vote Ralph off as chief by making his own group of hunters. Hobbes describes man s
nature to be, if any two men desire the same thing, which... they cannot both enjoy, they become
enemies; and... endeavor to destroy or subdue one another. (Hobbes). With this quote, Hobbes is

Hobbes expresses his thoughts of man as, war consisteth not in battle only, or the act of fighting; but
in a tract of time, wherein the will to contend by battle is sufficiently known. (Hobbes). With this
quote, Hobbes is saying that what makes up the idea to go to war or battle isn t the actual fighting but
the choice of going into this state to solve problems rather than a different way. This is shown in Lord
of the Flies with the boys, Simon, and the beast. Simon was trying to warn the boys about the beast
but was confused for the beast. When the boys thought they saw the beast, they followed Jack s chant
and order to kill it. Golding writes, The beast was on its knees in the center, its arms folded over its
face. It was crying out against the abominable noise something about a body on the hill. (Golding
152). Here, Simon was trying to protect himself from the boys as he tried to tell the boys about his
encounter with the lord of the flies. Jack and the tribe were so occupied and determined to kill the
beast, that they didn t tell the difference between a creature and Simon. They don t really know why
they re actually killing the beast because they re just thinking about fighting and battling. These

Cyclical Argument In Plato s Phaedo
In Plato s dialogue, the Phaedo, he gives a description of the immortality of the soul. He does this
through a series of arguments. His first argument, known as the Cyclical Argument, is that everything
comes to be from out of its opposite. The second argument, known as the Recollection Argument,
asserts that learning is essentially an act of recollecting things we knew before we were born but then
forgot. The third argument, known as the Affinity Argument, distinguishes between those things that
are immaterial, invisible, and immortal, and those things that are material, visible, and perishable. His
fourth argument, known as the Final Argument, is that the soul can be called the cause of life. I do not

One criticism of this argument is that death is contrary to life, but its contradictory opposite. It is
impossible for something to be both dead and alive, but it is possible for something to be neither dead
nor alive. Socrates also refers to being alive and being dead as opposites, but this pair is rather
different from comparative states such as larger and smaller, since something can t be deader, but only
dead. Being alive and being dead are what logicians call contraries. Some contemporary
commentators have maintained that the argument relies on covertly shifting between these different
kinds of opposites. Does the principle about balance, for instance, necessarily apply to living things?

Psychodynamic Theories And Discusses Key Elements Of...
Behaviourist Theories
This essay examines behaviourist theories and discusses key elements of classical and operant
conditioning. It considers a variety of psychological theorists and profoundly explores their research.
Behaviourism refers to a psychological approach which explains human development in terms of how
they learn from experience rather than a result of inborn tendencies or higher order thinking. Learning
from experience moulds and shapes behaviour and personality. (A2Healthandsocialcarepg84) The
behaviourist movement began in 1913 when John Watson wrote the article Psychology as the
behaviourist views it. Other psychologists such as, Pavlov, Thorndike and Skinner also worked to
develop behavioural theories of learning. (A2Healthandsocialcarepg84) They focused their
explanations solely on behaviour, concerning what people do rather than what may or may not be
going on in their minds. Behaviourists suggest that all behaviour is learned either through classical or
operant conditioning. (PsychologyASpg.50)
Thorndike s research offered valuable insights into conditioning. He studied the way animals learn by
observing their responses in controlled conditions. He noticed that animals would often learn by trial
and error. For example, a hungry cat would experiment with ways of escaping from a cage to receive a
reward of food. When the cat discovered actions that helped it escape, it would remember them.
Thorndike believed any action that produced a good effect

The Role Of Women s Suffrage In The United States
Women, for a long time, were one of the most undervalued assets essential to life in the late 1800s and
early 1900s. Throughout recorded history, women have been treated as less than men. They have been
viewed as simply a vessel for reproduction or a maid to do housework and prepare meals for her
husband. In many ancient cultures and some cultures today women are viewed merely as possessions.
Surprisingly, women were even oppressed in the United States, which was founded upon freedom and
equality. Women have been struggling to shed the chains of motherhood and be recognized as equal
human beings for as long as written records have been around. The unequal treatment of women was
often based on religion or tradition. The United States did not ... Show more content on

The supporters of inequality often feared changing old traditions. Some of the inequality had its base
rooted in religion. In the United States the predominant religion was Christianity. In the Bible, the man
is supposed to be the breadwinner of the family, while the woman oversees all the household duties.
People latched onto this idea which meant if you attacked that idea, you were attacking their religious
beliefs. What these people did not take into consideration is that when the Bible was written times
were different. When using historical accounts to develop ones beliefs you must take into
consideration that life may not be the same as it was when the event occurred. In Bible times, every
society was one hundred percent agrarian. This means when the Bible talks about men being
responsible for all the work and providing for his family, it is referring to the physical labor that must
go into producing food and running a farm. The Bible, for the most part, just divides the work of
having a family based on individual strengths. Men are biologically inclined to be physically stronger
and women are biologically inclined to nurture and be more gentle. The division of the work in that
way made sense during ancient times. The Bible does not say that women absolutely cannot do work
if they want to. It certainly does not encourage discrimination of women who do

  • 2. Cultural Development And Human Development Evolutionary importance of Culture as a Hominin Adaptation Human beings have reached the epitome of civilization, technological advancement and coexistence through cultural evolution. They have been able to learn new trades over time that have improved societies and sharpened skills that are passed down from generation to generation. The abilities that humans utilize to improve their social lives have evolved from the very early times of the hominids. Cultural behavior grew extensively from the era of the homo habilis and the homo rudolfensis. Hominids recognized the importance of adaptation and organization as a means of survival. The skills and tools developed did not depend on intelligence but rather improved social organization. Survival required a coordinated approach where information could be shared amongst hominids with a similar cultural behavior. They required a means of being able to alter their environments rather than adjusting their bodily functions, which was provided by culture (Bruner 2004). Culture was able to prove vital to hominin adaptation through gaining ability to plan, territorial organization and development of practices such as monogamy that facilitated its existence. One way in which cultural importance aided hominids is through isolation from groups with different behaviors like the Australopithecus and connecting with those that did. • 3. The Theory And Identity Theory, And Deal With The Multiple... To quote Karl Popper, Every solution to a problem, raises another unsolved problem (Williams, 2003, p. 2). It has been a topic debated for centuries, still, a definitive solution is yet to be found that universally satisfies the problem of mind brain identity. The most logical answer comes in the form of monism. Therefore in this paper I will argue that the mind and the brain are identical, as the mind exists only as a property of the brain. David Lewis and D.M Armstrong give support for the causal relationship between mind and brain states in the form of the identity theory, and deal with the multiple realisability argument provided by Hillary Putman. Gottlob Frege provides his support for materialism by showing that mental states are determined by the function of the brain, while discounting Thomas Nagel s argument which proposes the idea of Qualia. Both the functionalist theory and identity theory reach agreement on the materialistic view that the mind and brain are of the same substance. The Identity theory maintains a monistic belief by considering states of mind as being indistinguishable to brain states. Mental experiences including feeling pain, and possessing mental images are not correlated with, but in fact are brain processes (Smart, 2007). When dealing with the question of whether the mind and brain are identical, identity theorists differentiate between two forms, Type Identity and Token Identity (Schneider). Token Identity theory considers that mental ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. History Of Druidism There seems to be a lot of conflicting information as to where exactly Druidism originates and what sort of practices they experienced. Most of what was learned of Druidism was communicated orally, which is a major reason I believe as to why there is so many missing elements or inconsistent information. Across the board people mainly agree that it began in Europe. From some writings of Julius Caesar, people had believed it began in Britain. Druidism is a religion that is practiced by the Celts or Celtic people. The genealogy of the Druids begins roughly 25,000 years ago when any of the first demonstration of any sacred or spiritual practices were discovered in Europe (The order of Bards Ovates and Druids, A Brief History of Druidry, par 1). ... After my research I have found that Druidry is more of a spiritual path than anything, concentrating mostly on being animists (the belief that nature is enlivened or energized by distinct personalized spirit beings separate from bodies). Druids tend to rejoice and meditate outside becoming one with nature, though this is not the only way for the Druids (The Order of Bards Ovates and Druids, Druid Beliefs, par 2). Since the core motivation of this group is nature...they consider themselves to be healers and teachers, this is one thing that all who follow Druidism have in common, but not all Druids have the same set of beliefs as far as whether a God is involved. After learning about monotheism, animists and polytheism in Chapter 13 of our Cultural Anthropology textbook just recently, I had also learned that there are monotheistic and polytheistic Druids. • 5. The Assassination Of Abraham Lincoln Essay Sic Semper Tyrannis or Thus always I bring death to tyrants were the famous words of Confederate actor John Wilkes Booth after he shot President Lincoln at Ford s Theatre. The assassination of Abraham Lincoln was a devastating event that will be forever remembered in the hearts of all American citizens. On April 20, 1999 in Littleton, Colorado, Booth s words became a part of another American tragedy; Columbine high school was the setting for arguably one of the most infamous school shootings in the history of America. Two average American boys, Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris would make Columbine high school one of the most famous in the world by taking aim at their peers and teachers, yet few people know that the notorious shooting was originally planned to be a massive bombing. One of the boys wore a shirt under his trench coat with the infamous words blazen on the front to guarantee that their message was understood they were seeking what they considered as justice when they were setting off bombs in their high school. The school shooting was not the original plan for the two seniors, Harris and Klebold had planned to blow their high school to smithereens. Firearms were suppose to play only a small part the attack or what the boys called Judgement Day. During this time period the United States showed many examples of expansionism like they had earlier in the creation of the country but it also showed that the country was attempting to depart away from imperialism somewhat. The mindset of the American government and public was similar to the mindsets of those that were before them after the revolutionary war. For example, we attempted to gain more land and resources such as Cuba, Puerto Rico, Guam and The Philippines these actions were close to how we pushed and took all the land of those who were in the area but it was also different because we did not force people out of the area we were attempting to control we just wanted more influence and control of that area. Failure Of The Shlieffen Moltke Plan The Schlieffen Moltke Plan; which was originally drawn up by Alfred von Schlieffen and reshaped by Helmuth von Moltke the Younger, failed to achieve its objectives in September 1914 was due to the changes of the original Schlieffen Plan implemented by Moltke the Younger, and his poor leadership shown throughout the execution of the plan The objective of the Schlieffen Moltke plan; which was a planned offensive assault by the German Empire, was to advance through Belgium and enter France through the Northern border. Once Belgium was defeated, the Germans wished to quickly overtake the French and move quickly to fight the Russians before they could mobilize. However, the plan turned into a major disaster due to the alterations that Moltke made before the Schlieffen Moltke Plan s execution, as well as the revisions made during the offensive. His changes allowed the Allies to prepare for this assault, and counter the attack. An issue that Moltke and the German army encountered was that the Belgian army would not allow them to march through without resistance. Moltke attempted to persuade the Belgian King Albert to grant the German army access through their country prior to the invasion. The request, however, failed to succeed as the Belgian King Albert declined, and did not allow the Germans to flow freely through their country. This led to a pre emptive attack on neutral Belgium, which effectively brought Great Britain into the war. The resistance that the Belgian s showed in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Economic Traditionalism As The Antithesis Of Economic... Economic traditionalism is essentially the antithesis of modern capitalism. Within this framework, work was viewed as a necessary evil (Kalberg 2011a: p. 418). It was simply the means through which people acquire the economic needs necessary for survival. Therefore, work and money did not take precedence over one s family, community, and leisure. The tasks themselves were based on custom and tradition, and were independent of the individual himself. That is, work did not constitute one s self identity. Luther was an extreme proponent of this ideology. He was suspicious of wealth and asserted that money should only be enough to live a life of integrity. Weber ([1905] 2011) describes Luther s reservation: Luther was convinced that people of every status can become saved...Therefore, the striving for material gain that goes beyond one s own needs, Luther argues, must be a symptom of one s lack of grace. Indeed, because striving for gain appears to be possible only at the expense of others, this pursuit must be viewed as an unequivocal abomination. (P. 103) Thus, Luther was critical of those who utilized work to feed their avarice. Instead, asceticism was highly valued; as people were advised to renounce gluttony and avoid succumbing to their physical and sensual pleasures. Luther was also wary of those who attempted to venture outside of their calling. This was viewed as tinkering with God s will and undermining His plan for the individual s salvation. Various annoyances have been accumulating and Peter views his days at work as a waste of time and has no motivation to do anything productive. In addition to these brewing issues, Peter s boss, Bill Lumbergh, is known for being a stickler to rules, however trivial they may be. • 26. Network Performance Quality Of Service Project Report The aim of this project is to investigate and implement a standardised way to monitor and improve quality of service for a user with devices connected to the internet of things. Although there are several papers referring to the need for this, any implementation has been on an ad hoc bases for specific devices/issues and not rolled out as a standard approach. The approach this project is taking is to implement an algorithm which will monitor a network and work to improve its quality or service through different protocols. It will not be specific to just one application and the end goal would be the algorithm working with all types of IoT devices and handle a range of issues. 2. The Problem Network performance Quality of Service (QoS) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is therefore interesting that this area remains to be unstandardized today. The researcher in this paper proposes that the problem is responded to by a QoS architecture based on IoT layered structure. This architecture sets QoS agent in lower layers then transmits QoS requirements, trying to guarantee the consistency as well as effectively use the existing QoS mechanisms in every layer. (Duan, Chen and Xing, 2011) Other research suggests that the integration between IoT and other technologies such as Cloud Computing is in its infantile phase and it has not been extended to all application domains due to its inadequate quality of service architecture. (T, S and A, 2015) . We see here the lack of QoS in the IoT also has an impact on the future and extendibility of the IoT. Within this area of QoS, which continues to be actively researched, there is still a gap in any currently available solution. This project aims to contribute to this gap. 3. The Proposed Solution The proposed solution is to develop a protocol, a set of rules, to monitor application performance and the real time state of the network in the Internet of Things (IoT). The objective of this ruleset is to achieve Quality of Service (QoS) from the network perspective and Quality of Experience (QoE) from the user perspective. The debate is always should he have been killed or should he have lived and lead us to more victories. The first document that was used in the debate is a primary source. It s called De Vita Caesarum, Divus Iulius. The document is a biography of Julius Caesar and his life. Suetonius wrote the biography. Suetonius was a roman historian who wrote about the Roman Empire. It was written in 110 CE. It was written to show the side of the senators, and how they felt about having emperors. It is trustworthy because Suetonius used eyewitnesses and other evidence from books to provide a lot of information about Caesar. The only thing that I think is missing is the side of Caesar because he wrote it from the perspective of the senators view. Which puts Caesar in a bad light because the senators did not like Caesar. Considering that the article was written based off of the senators, it put Caesar in a bad light. Meaning that this author did not want Caesar to live. Another document that was used was a secondary source. It was an article written in the Britannica Student Encyclopedia. It was written for the public to read and understand Julius Caesar. It was used to give a brief overview of Julius Caesar s life. It talked about him as a person, the civil war that he was involved with, the march he lead, as well as his reputation. • 33. The Use of Art by Those in Power Art has more meaning behind it than just being a picture; it can function in society by symbolizing power. In this essay I am going to discuss in what ways art communicates power and help to manage nations and empires. The use of art as a tool for those in power started in different times and also in different cultures. An ancient gravesite near Stonehenge revealed the grave of the Amesbury Arche in 2002 his grave was different to those previously found near the site, What made him interesting was the gold hair tresses, which are the oldest cast of gold in Britain, and the fact that he was a from the region that is now Germany. The treasures in his grave show a man of status. Art for personal appearance, like these hair clasps, mad him have a higher status then his peers. This gold, created the image of a leader. So it was learned early on in human history that art as personal appearance enhanced your status. As time progressed, in other parts of the ancient world art became a political tool; kings competed for more dazzling adornments for their appearances. As kingdoms began to become bigger the kings started to face communication issues and Darius the Great of Persia was one of them, he ruled over 20 nations from Persepolis. As many people from his nation could not read, Darius then had stone reliefs created that combined styles from all over the empire, these carvings showed each nation bring tributes to their king. • 34. The World s Total Fertility Rate What to Expect When No One is Expecting Reflective Analysis As our global population count continues to exponentially climb, many people are under the impression the world is overpopulated. A lot of society wonders how we will be able to sustain such a large population. An overpopulated planet could cause or enhance problems such as natural resource depletion, global climate change, and starvation. The majority of people believe overpopulation is our world s most crucial problem, including me. Or at least I did before I read What to Expect When No One is Expecting. This book definitely made me think twice. What to Expect When No One is Expecting, by Jonathan Last, argues how overpopulation will not be a challenge for future generations. In fact, the book shares how married couples are not having enough babies. Statistically, in the last forty years, the world s total fertility rate (TFR) has decreased from 6.0 to 2.52. Meaning, the average woman is having 4.48 less children in her lifetime. At first glance, this statistic seems like a good thing, but in reality it is expected to have a devastating effect. What to Expect When No One is Expecting convinced me the world doesn t have an overpopulation problem by explaining how economics is a major cause of the lowered fertility rates, and consequently, because there are less babies, the economy will take the biggest hit. Today, in America, the TFR stands at 1.93 and continues to fall. However, the average American couple ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is shown in Lord of the Flies with the boys, Simon, and the beast. Simon was trying to warn the boys about the beast but was confused for the beast. When the boys thought they saw the beast, they followed Jack s chant and order to kill it. Golding writes, The beast was on its knees in the center, its arms folded over its face. • 39. Psychodynamic Theories And Discusses Key Elements Of... Behaviourist Theories This essay examines behaviourist theories and discusses key elements of classical and operant conditioning. It considers a variety of psychological theorists and profoundly explores their research. Behaviourism refers to a psychological approach which explains human development in terms of how they learn from experience rather than a result of inborn tendencies or higher order thinking. Learning from experience moulds and shapes behaviour and personality. (A2Healthandsocialcarepg84) The behaviourist movement began in 1913 when John Watson wrote the article Psychology as the behaviourist views it. Other psychologists such as, Pavlov, Thorndike and Skinner also worked to develop behavioural theories of learning. (A2Healthandsocialcarepg84) They focused their explanations solely on behaviour, concerning what people do rather than what may or may not be going on in their minds. Behaviourists suggest that all behaviour is learned either through classical or operant conditioning. (PsychologyASpg.50) Thorndike s research offered valuable insights into conditioning. He studied the way animals learn by observing their responses in controlled conditions. He noticed that animals would often learn by trial and error. For example, a hungry cat would experiment with ways of escaping from a cage to receive a reward of food. When the cat discovered actions that helped it escape, it would remember them. What these people did not take into consideration is that when the Bible was written times were different. When using historical accounts to develop ones beliefs you must take into consideration that life may not be the same as it was when the event occurred. In Bible times, every society was one hundred percent agrarian. This means when the Bible talks about men being responsible for all the work and providing for his family, it is referring to the physical labor that must go into producing food and running a farm. The Bible, for the most part, just divides the work of having a family based on individual strengths.
