Ray Charles
Ray Charles Is it justifiable or not for him to take gospel music and turn the song into secular songs?
Explain whether it was right or wrong. What motivated Ray Charles to experiment with so many
genres of music? Was Ray Charles responsible for Margie Hendrix s early death? Why/Why not? Use
one word to describe Ray Charles and explain why. It was justifiable for Ray Charles to take gospel
music and turn the song into secular because a new generation was arising. In a community where
different genres of music are seen as competition in the music industry, Ray wanted to stand out. The
best way to achieve this he had to cause controversy. By remixing and old time favourite gospel track,

Starbucks Success Factors
As the graph shows above, Coffee production in the Philippines grows every year but during 2010 and
2011 it stabilizes until 2014 and from 2014 2015, it is predicted to increase. This is because of
growing demand of coffee in the Philippines and Filipinos find that coffee harvesting is a good
business here in the Philippines. Coffee Production in different islands of the Philippines The table
shows that most coffee production is in Mindanao but South Luzon has the biggest area that should
have harvested more coffee throughout. The least that produces coffee is north Luzon resulting to only
1,425 metric tons. Further Explanation: The supply of coffee in the Philippines is continuous yet as the
demand increases so as more supply is needed. There are different kinds of coffee that ... Show more

Online Gaming and Fraud in Massive Multiplayer Online...
1. Online Gaming Security and Fraud Throughout the evolution of gaming, there has been a
movement of large communities to online gaming. With that high amount of traffic, these online
games have become prime targets for crime to emerge from. Due to the online nature and virtual
elements of this kind of community, the most common type of crime committed was theft, followed
closely by fraud (Chen 2005). With the increase in online communities from online gaming,
businesses have started advertising both to these markets and through them. This has opened up not
only the online communities to the threat of fraud, but also those businesses and their competitors.
This paper will focus primarily on the Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG)
community, and the ways that fraud is committed in that type of gaming. 2.1 Fraud in MMORPGs
Fraud has been influencing MMORPGs and online gaming for years. The world of online has moved
from being a software license industry to an uplink time payment model due to illegal sharing and
software copying (Chen 2005). With the move to subscription based gameplay, in game items now
have a monetary value due to the growth of economies that trade the virtual game money or items for
real world currency (Chen 2005). Throughout the MMORPGs there has been a trend of criminals
targeting the users of these online games for purposes of theft and fraud, especially when it comes to
the in game currencies and identities. According to a study

Informative Essay On Alcoholism
Hereditary or choice? Alcoholism is defined as: The continued, excessive, and usually uncontrollable
use of alcoholic drinks; the consumption of alcoholic liquor or the mental illness and compulsive
behavior resulting from alcohol dependency. To some, alcoholism is seen as a genetically passed down
disease that can and does destroy lives daily. Others see the development of alcoholism as the result of
a choice someone makes daily to drink excessively. While each side is entitled to their own thoughts
and opinions, it is a serious threat on millions of lives. Alcoholism doesn t only affect one person, but
the friends, family, and children around them. It can tear families and relationships apart in the blink
of an eye.

Suicide In The Middle Passage
The Middle Passage has been a focal point of investigation for many historians who are dedicated to
comprehending the slave trade. The literature as a whole reveal that slaves asserted autonomy over
their social being by committing suicide. This act disrupted the process of transatlantic voyages as
slaves surrendered the physical self to reclaim their psychological and social strength. In addition,
European perception of suicide shaped the ways in which slave traders and surgeons responded to
captives means of resistance. Self inflicted death amongst the enslaved was brought to the attention of
British Parliament via testimonies of pro abolitionists. This essay will explore European attitudes
toward suicide, slave suicide as an act of resistance

The Tea Of A Tea Party
Tea Parties
In its simplest form, a Tea Party is defined as a social gathering in the afternoon at which tea, cakes
and other light refreshments are served. Dating back into the 1700 s, tea etiquette and its popularity
can be traced back to Charles II and his wife, Catherine of Braganza. Born of Portuguese descent,
Catherine already know of and was fond of tea, as it was a preferred beverage of Portugal
(Afternoon.com). Becoming known as the tea drinking Queen she is regarded as the first of England s
queens to participate in this tradition. However, Tea Parties made their scene when Queen Anna began
to hold afternoon tea while eating light refreshments in her chambers, as well as inviting her friends to

With tea party businesses and various tea gardens around the world, the culture and practice of tea
parties will continue to flourish. As previously stated, tea parties didn t come into full trendy fashion
until the 18th Century. Catherine brought tea to light while Queen Anna brought it into a trend with
her first afternoon tea . Queen Anna started drinking tea and eating light refreshments when she
became hungry in the afternoons, or the sinking feeling she d feel, since it was typical to eat only
breakfast and dinner at that time in Britain (tevana.com). Tea was generally consumed within a lady s
closet or bedchamber and was predominately a female only gathering. The tea itself and the delicate
pieces of porcelain for brewing and drinking it were displayed in the closet, and inventories for
wealthy households during the 17th and 18th centuries list tea equipage not in kitchens or dining
rooms but in these small private closets or boudoirs ( A Social History of Tea by Jane Pettigrew, out of
print). The trend of taking of tea didn t stop there various countries around the world practiced taking
of the tea, whether it be for ceremonial reasons, celebrations, pleasure and leisure, or traditional tea

Mygraphy Of A Teacher Autobiography
My Teacher Autobiography
Since I can remember I have always wanted to be a teacher. You can say I come from a family of
teachers because several of my family members are teachers. I enjoy helping others and I love
working with children. I dream of becoming a middle school English teacher in spite of people telling
me I will have a difficult time with the children from that age group. I have had many role models
throughout my life and they have all impacted my life in their own way. My biggest role models have
been my 8th grade math teacher Ms. Gurrola, my maternal grandfather, Higinio, and my 8th grade
Language Arts teacher, Ms. Cordova. All of these individuals in their own way have had a significant
impact on my life and are part of the reason why I choose to become a teacher. By learning about
these people that have meant so much to me you can learn a lot me as a person and how I will be as
teacher.
One of the most memorable and favorite teachers I have had is my eighth grade math teacher Ms.
Gurrola. Although she wasn t my favorite teacher at the time, today is she is one of my most
significant roles models and inspirations for becoming a teacher. Being a new member of the bilingual
program at my school, Ms. Gurrola s math class was one of the most challenging because I had never
taken a math class in Spanish before and although Spanish is my first language the terminology was
new to me. To me, Ms. Gurrola was a great teacher in spite of her strict rules and at times unpleasant
attitude. She knew her subject matter very well and was always open to helping her students whenever
possible. She had a strong accent that made it evident that she was bilingual and that English was not
her first language. It was rumored that she had come to the United States from Mexico with a convent
of nuns but left and became a teacher. I did not realize her value as a teacher until one day that I stayed
after school with her to finish an exam for her class. I was upset with her over something that
happened the previous day in class and I gave her a little bit of attitude that day yet when I went to her
class after school it seemed as if nothing had ever happened. She was helpful and very nice to me.

Persuasive Essay On Invasive Plants
How easy is it to take care of a plant; pretty simple right? Just give the plant water and sunlight and it
will most likely grow. How about at goldfish? Get a tank, fill it with some water, add the goldfish and
make sure to feed it every once in a while. It takes a bit more work but still relatively easy. How about
having to take care of a reptile, like an iguana? They are much more difficult to take care of. They also
have many more needs including a heat lamp, special diet, forested cage, and they do not like to be
handled. When someone no longer wants these pets, they may be tempted to release them in the wild
and when this happens it can have devastating effects. When any of the species mentioned above are
released into the wild where they are not native, they have a chance to become an invasive species.
According to the Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area or CISMA, invasive species are
nonnative plants or animals that cause harm to the environment, economy, or human health (CISMA,
2017). Invasive species are normally brought to a new area by people who want to own exotic pets or
have plants that will survive in extreme weather. When the conditions are favorable to the species it
can survive much better than the native species. If the species happens to find a mate to reproduce, it
can grow in population rapidly. One example of this is the rabbit population on the island of
Macquarie where the population went from 20,000 to 130,000 in just six

Lori Marino Dolphins
This summer, hundreds of dolphins beached themselves along the coast of New England. The
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has tentatively pegged the cause of this
particular dolphin die off as a viral outbreak. Yet even in normal years, dozens of dolphins around the
country become stranded in shallow water or beach themselves on shorelines. Are these often sickened
or injured animals simply disoriented, or are they making a conscious decision to leave their tightly
knit social groups and die on the beaches? In other words, do dolphins commit suicide?
Quite possibly.
From what we know of dolphin intelligence, they certainly have the capability of choosing to die.
According to Lori Marino, a researcher who studies the brains and behaviors of animals, we know that

The sophisticated echolocation system that dolphins use to hunt also serves as a constant form of
communication, transferring personal information at a greater rate than do our sluggish human voices.
A dolphin s limbic system, the part of the brain that controls emotions, is also highly developed.
Marino describes dolphins as hyper emotional; when they are hunted by fisherman, simple panic can
send dolphins into cardiac or neurological shock.
A dolphin s mix of intelligence, strong social bonds, and hyper emotionality can backfire in the form
of destructive behavior. Dolphins in captivity, even those born into it, are deprived of social
interaction with their own kind, resulting in high levels of stress. Captive dolphins may ram their
heads into the sides of their tank or aggressively lash out at other dolphins.
When a stressed dolphin jumps out of its tank, is it making a decision to ends its life? When a sick
dolphin beaches itself, is it a selfless act made for the good of its social group? It s hard to say. A test
has not yet been developed to show whether dolphins understand the permanence of death or their

In England the law states that people who work with children have to keep them safe. This
safeguarding legislation is set out in The Children Act (1989) and (2004). It also features in the United
Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (to which the UK is a signatory) and sets out the rights

Anne Bradstreet s The Prologue
Section One: The Prologue 208 09 Anne Bradstreet s The Prologue is generally considered one of her
most vivid statements regarding her role in a Puritan society. This is a poem where she reveals who
she is to her readers. Bradstreet is critical of those individuals who place restrictions on women s roles
in society, especially in consideration of a female writer in a male dominated environment. In the first
few stanzas Bradstreet talks about how her ability as a poet is not up to the task, unlike the work of
men. This is implied when she mentions that Let Poets and Historians set these forth. My obscure
lines shall not so dim their worth. Bradstreet goes further and mentions her lack of ability in writing
and wishes she had the same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the first lines of her poem she describes how a pilgrim reaches his goal. She references the pilgrim
as a symbol of determination and perseverance to be followed, especially when hoping to attain a
dream. Being a pilgrim herself, and living in a Puritan society, her audience was able to relate to her
plight and feelings about the journeys that are taken throughout one s life. In this poem, Bradstreet
uses her skills to compare the voyage to America from England to the journey a religious person is to
take to Heaven from Earth. Now that the journey of the pilgrim has ended, he no longer has to endure
the hardships of the trip to his destination, his dangers past, and travails done. However, in order to
reach his destination the pilgrim has made sacrifices, like leaving things behind. Otherwise he wouldn
t have been able to accomplish his feat, and therefore, to All cares and fears he bids farewell . Later
one Bradstreet contemplates how the pilgrim has been successful in his achievement, and how she
herself wanted to be part of such journey. Bradstreet sees herself in the image of the pilgrim,
renouncing to the world in her way to Heaven. She feels tempted, but obeys the will of God.
Bradstreet reminds others that while it is not easy to live a sinless life, the reward at the end is worth
all the effort. She understands the difficulties of her plan, and longs to be at rest and soar on high
among the blest. Although the journey is lengthy and arduous, Bradstreet realizes that there are still
many years before she achieves her goal, years in which she will have to continue following the
Commandments and struggling against the society she has been born in. Still, she continues her
journey, weary, but hoping for rest, until the day she completes her voyage to eternal life in

Nt1310 Unit 4 Lab Report
Analysis For the first part of the lab, our goal was to calculate the time constant, , of an RC circuit.
We made an RC series circuit and connected it to the Rigol wave generator to produce a square
waveform for current. Then, we collected data of the voltage across the capacitor at different points in
time using a myDAQ and the 4BL application. In order to find the time constant, we linearized the
voltage we measured across the capacitor and then performed a linear regression on the data. The
equation for the voltage across the capacitor as a function of time is: V_c (t)=V_b (1 e^(( t)/RC) )
where V_c (t) is the voltage across the capacitor as a function of time and V_b is the input voltage. We
then linearize the data by manipulating the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Looking at the values for resonance frequency we got from both methods, at first glance it appears
that the second method is more accurate. However, in order to better compare the two methods, we
can calculate the percent error from the theoretical value for the resonant frequency. The formula for
percent error is: percent error=| (experimental value accepted value)/(accepted value) | × 100 We get
that the percent error for method 1 is 19.3% and the percent error for method 2 is 1.2%. This affirms
that the method 2 is the more accurate method to measure the resonant frequency. This may be due to
the fact that method 1 involves using estimations by eye, which allows for human error and inaccurate
estimations. The difference between the experimental and theoretical values for the resonant
frequency could also result from faulty equipment, which may not function as the manufacturer claims
or be worn down by natural decay. Lastly using the theoretical value for the RLC circuit and Equation
2, we calculate a Q factor of Q=0.19. This low Q factor indicates that the peak of the curve is not very
sharp and there could have been overdamping, which potentially increases the error in reading the
resonant frequency, especially for the reading by

Voter Capabilities
INTRODUCTION
Citizens, politicians, and officials have been in heated debates on whether Americans are capable of
handling their responsibilities that are given just for being a citizen. Voting is a personal choice for
Americans. The fears of losing rights and freedom have been present for many decades and centuries.
Everybody is concerned that citizens may not be as free as they once were. People fought hard to
make every American citizen free. Citizens who complain that our government is not perfect and is
not doing well for the United States are people who usually do not even vote. One vote can make a
difference. Citizens are extremely concerned with our rights and freedom, but do not even attempt to
make a change. Citizens are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Citizens are not always informed when they go to the voting booth and mark their candidate. If the
democratic system depended solely on the qualifications of the individual voter, then it seems
remarkable that democracies have survived through the centuries (Barleson, Lazarfeld, McPhee; p
209). Every voter may be qualified, but the voter can still lack information. Barleson, Lazerfeld, and
McPhee recognize that individuals do not meet the standards that Political politicians necessarily
agree with.
Evidence based Argument
Voters do not have enough information to make educated votes that are best for this country.
Americans will sit around and complain about the Democracy, but attempt to do nothing about it.
Numbers speak for themselves; if every citizen that complained about the Democracy voted, there
would be a change in the world. Every vote counts in America and everybody has a voice. One cannot
stress how important it is to gain information about current politics. Information is found everywhere.
Information can be found online, on television, in articles, and in books. Reading a little bit can go a
long way.
Americans need to take the time to find information and their rights would be safer. Americans are
entitled to rights and freedom, so they give up the responsibilities. Americans are dependent of others;
they want others to make the right decision. Every citizen is responsible for them and will not always
agree on the same decisions

Alternative Dispute Resolution Processes
Contrary to that, some observers have argued that it is not at all clear that informal processes like ADR
may be a disadvantage to minority groups any more than formal processes like settlement . Formality
may influence people to be on the right side of the law and play by the book, it risks imposing its own
obstacles to justice . The concept of justice is essential to ADR processes. In the framework of ADR,
the concept of justice involves the consent of the parties to play an active role in the resolution of their
disputes; to assert some degree of control over the aftermath of their disputes and to arrive at a
satisfactory, if not excellent settlements of their disputes, with regards to their interest. 3.3 Principles
and Mechanisms of ADR 3.3.1 General Principle Currently there is no particular ADR philosophy that
can acknowledge that one specific approach can best suit the true spirit of ADR . Nevertheless, by
taking a look at the main aim of ADR, one can establish whether there is one philosophy to ADR and
to what extent does it go to. Some of the main aims of ADR are; the principle of solving a problem
collectively, enabling of parties, avoiding delays and costs related to traditional litigation, conservation
or improvement of personal relationships; mainly business related and simplifying procedures. The
principle of solving a problem collectively is considered to be one of the main objectives of ADR
process, however it has been argued that some parties in

Analysis Of The Article Vale Expansion Puts Australia s...
The article Vale expansion puts Australia s global mining market share at risk, Roy Hill head warns is
a rather simple business news piece communicating Vale s decision to increase production with third
party commentary responding to the announcement. At high level it focuses on the actions of firms in
the iron ore production market and in doing so reveals a range of drivers influencing decision making
by firms. These decisions can be described and understood through economic theory. Vale is not the
only iron ore producer in the market so consideration of the market structure is important to
understand firm decision making. In determining the market structure it is important to first clarify
which market is being analysed. The market ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The chart provides information by four firms, Fortescue Metals Group (FMG), Vale, Rio Tinto, BHP
(WAIO) and the rest of the world. According to this data set these four producers accounts for
approximately 65% 70% of iron ore produced for the export market. This suggests the market has
medium level of concentration reflecting a scenario of monopolistic competition. Another aspect to
consider when examining the iron ore export market is the degree of product differentiation between
iron ore producing firms. Product differentiation impacts the ability or preference of buyers to
substitute products, in this case iron ore, produced by different firms. Iron ore is mined in a variety of
different types; hematite, goethite, limonite and magnetite which contain different concentrations of
iron. If the iron ore of a firm is considered to be of higher quality than other firms, then lower quality
iron ore from other firms may be considered an imperfect substitute . Firms may undertake at
additional cost beneficiation processes cost to improve their product. The article notes Vale will offer a
63 per cent blended product to the market which would compete directly with Australian producers.
This implies consumers could easily substitute the iron ore from other produces in favor of Vale s
product. Over the last 15 years the demand of iron ore has steadily increased and then fallen. Figures

Tank Warfare
Tanks huge, movable, masses of metal capable of destroying anything in their path. It would only
seem logical that tanks would be considered an important part of a country?s battle plan. However, in
the early stages of WWII the tank was only seen as support for the infantry. As WWII progressed so
did the view of tank uses in battle. Comparing and contrasting the United States, Britain, and German
tanks during WWII would require one to look at a variety of design elements, the skills of the tank
commanders, the willingness and ability of the countries to make improvements based on need, and
most importantly a change in each country?s belief that the tank could be a valuable part of a war
plan. Based on the above listed items ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

As previously described the tank commanders for all countries were a crucial part of tank warfare. In
terms of the skills of the tank commanders, Germany ranked higher than the US and Britain due to
their history of destruction, accuracy and frequency of attacks.
A lot of countries got caught up in being the biggest and strongest that they forgot about the trusty
tanks that have worked over time. They wasted resources and time trying to develop these big and
soon to be found useless tanks.
Germany unwisely used some of their tank production on useless designs trying to create bigger and
stronger tanks with better ingenuity when they should have been using their smaller resources to make
many of the reliable tanks that have already been proven in batter time and time again.

salt marshes lining the Louisiana coast. Silliman and his team identify oil spills as one of the most
damaging forms of pollution due to their unpredictable nature and associated lack of readily available
tools and resources that would be needed to restrict their impact on nearby ecosystems. The team
studied salt marshes located in Barataria Bay, LA which was one the regions that experienced some of
the most extensive oiling from the spill. The team investigated the current status and future impacts of
the spill on the marshes. Past data revealed that negative impacts on marshes could be corrected with
plant re growth and oil degradation that naturally occurs with time, and at even faster rates in warmer
climates, which provides a hopeful outlook for the LA region. In addition to the direct effects of
oiling, the team also analyzed the geomorphic effects that may be a

What Is The Thesis For Two Thousand Seasons
The Wishes of Destruction The wishes of perseverance of some are the destruction of others because
every action has a reaction. King Leopold came to the Congo to eradicate all signs of autochthony
there and to accomplish his goals at the expense of others. The Congo was once a free land and with
the arrival of Leopold it became a captive land. Ayi Kwei Armah in his book, Two Thousand Seasons,
gives a clear example of the devastation that the white parasites bring upon an indigenous land,
therefore, this book is linked with the atrocities that King Leopold performed on the Congo, shown on
the film Ghost of King Leopold. King Leopold imposed a slave labor system on the Congo to remove

It creates in them a sense of fear, uncertainty, denial, and suspicion of their mother culture. The
colonized people do not perceive the world with the same eyes as their compatriots, they see it with a
lens that they have obtained, rather imposed, from the colonizers. Armah explains how the wishes to
reconstruct their way into a road comes from within the society: it was the king s wish that the girl left

honor he the king was bringing us. Kin Koranches s son culture is rapidly eroded as the new culture

Paycheck Fairness Essay
Paycheck Fairness Act Valuing the Employee The Paycheck Fairness Act can aid an organization in
laying the foundation to value employees equally and add a level of transparency without retaliation.
The vantage point of paying everyone equally, regardless of race, gender, religious and/or sexual
preference may seem as an obvious option as we are all created equal. The vantage point of paying a
person what they are worth, what type of experience they may bring to the table, or what value they
could potentially add also provides a sensible solution to paycheck discrepancies. Bridging the gap

Legalization of Same-Sex Marriage
Gay Marriage Gay marriage has become more and more important to more and more people in the
recent past. Many people want gay people to be allowed to get married. They say that marriage is a
right, not a privilege. People who oppose gay marriage say that marriage is defined as a union of one
man and one woman. Many people, who otherwise are very supportive of a homosexual s rights, say
that they shouldn t be allowed to marry simply because two people of the same sex can t get married.
According to The Washington Post a record high of fifty nine percent of Americans say that they
support gay marriage while only thirty four percent say that they are opposed to it. When asked to
consider The Constitution and what it says about equal rights, the numbers are similar but not the
same. When considering what the Constitution says, fifty percent of people say the Constitution
guarantees anyone the right to marry while forty one percent say it does not. As far as allowing same
sex marriage from state to state, 17 allow same sex marriage while 33 ban it by state law,
Constitutional amendment, or both. Let me start by defining the word marriage. According to the
Encyclopedia Britannica, marriage is a legally and socially sanctioned union, usually between a man
and a woman, that is regulated by laws, rules, customs, beliefs, and attitudes that prescribe the rights
and duties of the partners and accords status to their offspring . Many argue that a homosexual couple

Foreign Exchange Risk Management
REVIEW 1 The survey of foreign currency risk awareness and management practices in Tanzania
REVIEW OF LITERATURE
Foreign exchange risk management
Foreign currency exchange risk is the additional riskiness or varience of a firm s cash flows that may
be attributed to currency fluctuations (Giddy, 1977, Brigham and Ehrhardt, 2005). Normally, foreign
currency risk exists in three forms; translation, transaction and economic exposures.
Foreign currency risk management involves taking decisions which aim at minimizing or eliminating
the negative effects of currency fluctuations on balance sheet and income statement values, a firm s
receipts and payments arising out of current transactions, and on long term future cash flows of a firm.

Using a unique set of data containing complete foreign currency spot and derivatives positions of
Korean exporting firms, we empirically find that currency position squaring firms have significantly
higher firm value. We also find evidence that these firms time the currency market when they manage
their currency cash position. Meanwhile, firms time the credit market when they determine the use of
foreign currency debts. Strikingly, firms still time the market even when they conduct derivatives
hedging and synthetic hedging. Our findings are consistent with the market timing theory of capital
structure.
The second essay examines what determines banks‟ exposure to foreign currency risks, their
management of these risks, and the relationship to the probability of bank failures. Using a unique
data set of Korean banks with detailed information on their foreign currency risk exposures and
hedging positions, we find that banks‟ foreign currency position mismatches, maturity mismatches,
and debt roll over risks are significantly attributed to their dollar carry lending strategy, which is
stimulated by market timing of corporate firms, short maturity dollar borrowings, real estate market
booms, and dollar interest rate tightening. We also find that banks‟ foreign currency exposures
significantly increase their financial distress likelihood through dollar carry

Evangelical Protestant Essay
To properly label a Christian an evangelical Protestant, one must ask four basic questions and receive
an answer that as a whole, evangelical Protestants accept as correct . The questions are: [W]hat must a
person do to be saved?[, W]here does religious authority lie?[, W]hat is the church?[,] and [W]hat is
the essence of Christian living? ( Evangelicalism , Dictionary of Christianity in America) Through
answering and receiving the correct responses, one should be able to define an evangelical Protestant.
The answer to the first question is found in Ephesians 2:8, For by grace you have been saved through
faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God[.] One must have faith in Jesus Christ by
accepting who He claims to be, the Son of God who is God. (John 1:1 4, 3:16 17, 14:6) In accepting

Feature Integration Theory Essay
The Feature Integration Theory (Treisman Gelade, 1980) links pre attention and attention together and
tries to explain why pop out effects occur and how conjunction searches work. It states that features of
an object (for example, colour and texture) are pre attentionally coded in parallel, which explains why
the pop out effect exists. The object s features are then combined through attention to form the whole
object, which is why conjunction searches take longer to complete as you have to look for a number of
features that combine together to make what you are looking for. Support for the Feature Integration
Theory comes from Bravo Nakayama (1992) who found that as the number of distractor items

They presented shapes to their participants very quickly, almost so they could not see them and then
asked which of three stimuli were presented to them. Many participants reported not seeing anything
but their rate of correct answers was above chance level. This implies that the stimuli were processed
pre attentionally as the participants had no explicit recollection of seeing the stimuli and therefore did
not pay attention to it. However, a criticism of this study is that it was conducted 80 years ago, which
would mean that their equipment is not to the same standard as modern studies. This could have led to
methodological problems including whether they presented each stimulus for the same length of time
in every condition and to every participant. Further support for the pre attentional approach of object
recognition comes from Sperling (1960). They presented 12 letters (4x3 grid) for a short period of
time and asked participants to recall as many as possible. The average response was 4 5 correct letters.
However, when participants associated a line of letters with a tone (high, medium or low) and were
then asked to recall the letters from either of those lines, they were largely able to remember all of the
letters from that row implying that they had the ability to recall around 9 of the letters in total. This
suggests that the letters were processed pre attentionally as the participants were unaware that they
had remembered them. A criticism of this study is that it focuses on memory more than

Chipping Away at Intel Case Study
Chipping Away at Intel Case Study
In today s economy, corporations are consistently experiencing pressures to change. With pressures
both internally and externally, leaders must constantly reassess who, what, when, where, why and how
they do business. In light of these obstacles, they strive for the highest possibility of success by taking
risks and pushing limits that others may question as extreme. We are going to review the Chipping
Away at Intel Case Study to examine the different changes CEO, Craig R. Barret implemented, which
pressures Intel experienced and how he responded to these pressures.

Maintaining and enhancing corporate reputation is therefore an important part of managing firm
survival... (Palmer, Dunford, Akin, 2009, p. 59). They needed to enhance their strategy in order to
continue to stay as a leading innovator.
Barret responded to these pressures by introducing more reorganization of the company and also a
change in strategy by cancelling the 4 GHz Pentium 4. This restructure of business units would ensure
that work was systematized throughout the organization. Huang, Chen and Han (2011) suggest that
even a reorganization based on top of the line principles will not be successful if it is not directed by a
strong, perfectly timed business idea. Intel s new CEO to take control after Barret was Paul Otellini,
and he was in for a big challenge to keep these changes moving in a positive direction.
If I was Paul Otellini, I would definitely step back, review all the changes and strategies which were
put in place and assess which worked and which did not. Also, communicate internally with
management and the employees to hear their concerns, ideas and thoughts. After reassessing
everything, I would then decide what, if more, changes are needed, both large and small.

Conclusion
In conclusion, the pressures Intel faced during Barret s tenure caused a significant amount of turmoil
which resulted in a substantial amount of change. He was able to keep them on top in their market

The Stereotypes Of Disney s Hidden Glass Ceiling
Royal diversity Disney s Hidden Glass Ceiling What is the glass ceiling? How can we change it? And
where does Disney fit into this? One of the earliest citation came from the magazine world in 1984. It
was basically about women who reach a certain point in middle management where they get stuck and
they are unable to move forward. Since then the definition has broadened it s become a metaphor that
represents an invisible barrier that keeps a given demographic (usually women and minorities) from
rising beyond. Believe it or not, Disney has contributed its fair share to this with some of its beloved
animated princess movies. Most of them featured the helpless female who eventually finds their prince
charming, who then sweeps her off her feet, then suddenly her whole life changes she lives happily
ever after. Sadly, that sends a message to our young girls that to have happiness and a purpose they
need to have a man to achieve that. Disney has had some success with moving away from female
passivity in stories featuring white characters. In Mulan and the princess and the frog, Disney did not
achieve gender or racial equality. The Disney franchise is a powerful force in the lives of young girls,
especially girls of color seeking same race role models in the public eye (. Dundes, Streiff, 2016, p1).
By unveiling Disney s hidden glass ceiling, we can start to get a more realistic view of our children s
movies and start to distance ourselves from racial, sexism,

Manoeuvrist Approach
Throughout history, military theorists and commanders have attempted to determine and define the
most effective way to defeat an adversary and achieve victory. British military doctrine defines this
method as the Manoeuvrist Approach or indirect approach, which main focus is basically on attacking
enemy s cohesion and will to fight rather than focusing purely on the destruction of his physical
component. The approach itself is based on manoeuvre theory, which relies on speed, deception,
surprise, and the application of firepower and movement or application of own strengths against
opponents weaknesses and vulnerabilities, while protecting the same on our own side. However, all
this is not sufficient without seizing initiative. Having initiative ... Show more content on

A key characteristic of the manoeuvrist approach is the attacking enemy s decision making process by
attempting to get inside his decision making cycle (known as OODA loop cycle). OODA loop
(observe orient decide act) is theory presented by American John Boyd and its essence is to be faster
through OODA loop cycle than the enemy. If we can consistently go through the OODA cycle faster
than the enemy, make faster decisions and act before him, we gain an advantage and enemy loses his
cohesion until he can no longer fight as an effective, organized force. However, in order to be faster
than enemy some preconditions have to be achieved. Firstly, according to Boyd, only decentralized
military with application of mission command can have a fast OODA loop. Secondly, through
decentralization, to operate successfully in fog of war we need to accept confusion and disorder, and
also to generate them. Thirdly, while operating in confusion and disorder we need to avoid all patterns,
recipes and formulas, because if our tactics follow predictable patterns, the enemy can predict our
actions and easily cut inside our OODA Loop. And lastly, we

Jillian Ann Montgomery s Obituary Analysis
In this paper, I will analyze an obituary about Jillian Ann Montgomery who was killed in a car
accident. Most obituaries are of people one may not be familiar with, just like this case of Jillian.
Obituaries begin with the name, age, and place of residence of the deceased, along with the time and
place of death. Jillian s obituary includes her name, age, residence, and the day when she was killed. It
is not in all cases were the cause of death is included but the obituary indicate she was killed in a car

Cultural Differences Between European And Native Americans
The cultural difference between the Europeans and Native Americans caused many clashes that led
into destruction of land and the people. The culture differences led to a bloodshed in the war of
Captivity which resulted in the Native American to migrate west into the European culture. The
European Americans believed in and followed the practices of a monarchy government. They believed
in commitment to the King or Queen of England and that one person holds all the power and total
sovereignty until they die or give up their position. However, the Native Americans held to a more
tribal form of government, they governed themselves and they helped each other out but they didn t
have a central ruler. There are a large number of tribes within the Native American culture and they all
have slightly different beliefs. Some native groups were oriented more towards hunting and gathering
and depended on the spirits to help them find what they were out to look for. Other groups were more
agricultural and looked for spirits to provide good weather for cropping. Although, they had different
beliefs all of them established an animistic worldview and they had many things in common. After the
Europeans moved to the new world the population expanded over time but due to the illnesses and
diseases many people died. Most Native Americans believed in God who was responsible for creating
the world. They praised and worshiped him but they also believed that there were other spirits which

Soldiers often transform from every day men to people who have to kill to survive. Killing someone
would most likely change anyone. Now let s take a young, bright eyed women straight out of

In the beginning she is just this young innocent girl who is almost angelesk. It s implied that she s a
virgin which gives her a sort of naive sexual appeal, a women who s definitely unsure of who she is.
She quickly comes to a realisation that she feels more alive here in Vietnam than she did in Cleveland
Heights and refuses to go home. You can tell through her character explanation that O brien gives that
she has ultimately changed as a character. Her appearance has changed yet she doesn t lose all of her
sexual appeal. In fact she becomes more desirable through this revelation. The idea of the loss of
innocence is huge in this short story. It s shows that these men go to war as boys and return from war
as killers. Rat at one point compares girls like Mary Anne as clean (25), in the beginning of this story
she was like most girls you d imagine, yet by the end she has transformed into something dirty and
unworldly. She is no longer clean or innocent she has seen and experienced things most people never

The Rite Of Spring And The Nutcracker Analysis
Listening to Music class has taught me a new way to listen and enjoy music. I have learned how to
differentiate the melodies, rhythms, and instruments in a song. It has also introduced me to different
genres in the music world, aside from what is usually played on the radio. I can now attend any
concert, listen to any genre, or watch any ballet and easily recognize the many specific aspects the
music being played has. Ballets are very interesting to me. The audience is able to enjoy the music
being played as it is telling a story, and being acted out through the performer s body language. In the
two ballets, The Rite of Spring and The Nutcracker, a great story is told in both referencing the many
great dynamics music has. These two specific ballets are written by different composers, and each one
of them have certain conditions they were written under. As well as different receptions, popularity,
and development. The Rite of Spring and The Nutcracker s differences has made some sort of an
impact in the performing world back then as well as now. To begin, The Rite of Spring was composed
by Igor Stravinsky. Stravinsky was born in 1882 near St. Petersburg, Russia. As a Russian born
composer, his music had a revolutionary impact on musical thought and sensibility just before and
after World War I, and his compositions remained a touchstone of modernism for much of his long

Consciously and unconsciously, the individual reflects the confluence of his or her history and culture.
In Sonny s Blues , a short story by James Baldwin, the dominant culture constricts the black
individual. Subject to the explicit and latent biases of a racist society, the black population of Sonny s
Blues attempt to endure oppression and suffering and survive in an unforgiving land. However, they

Aware of the societal policies and practices discriminating against them, the African Americans in
Sonny s Blues perceive this societal oppression as a darkness surrounding them. The darkness in
Sonny s Blues is the metaphorical embodiment of their suffering and the eventual culmination of that

King Lear Every situation in life has an appearance, and a reality. The appearance of a situation is

what they want to believe is true; often, the reality of a situation is unappealing to the perceiver. These

With this in mind, we can conclude that Lear and Gloucester are both very quick to accept people at
face value, without any attempt to gain a deeper understanding of them. Similarly, we learn in King
Lear, that how we perceive ourselves, may not be how we are perceived by others. Lear, for example,
believes himself to be a great and respected King, who is wealthy and powerful. Nevertheless, he is
constantly reminded by the actions of Goneril, and Regan, that he is an old man who has lost his
kingdom, his only faithful daughter, and his wits. O, sir, you are very old! Nature in you stands on the
very verge of her confine. You should be ruled, and led by some discretion that discerns your state
(II.iv.146 148.) this is reason and way that Regan feels her father should be removed from power.
Lear, ever blinded, doesn t see that his two daughters are trying to steal his kingdom. Consequently,
when Goneril and Regan are cutting down his train, he still believes that their love can be measured in
words and numbers Thy fifty yet doth double five and twenty, and thou art twice her love (II.iv.261
262). Lear believes that because Goneril will allow him twice as many servants in her home, she must
love him twice as much as Regan does. This constant want of praise and lauding makes Lear very
susceptible to persuasion by his evil daughters, and ultimately leads to his losses. Gloucester, also

Queen Anna started drinking tea and eating light refreshments when she became hungry in the afternoons, or the sinking feeling she d feel, since it was typical to eat only breakfast and dinner at that time in Britain (tevana.com). You can say I come from a family of teachers because several of my family members are teachers. I enjoy helping others and I love working with children. I dream of becoming a middle school English teacher in spite of people telling me I will have a difficult time with the children from that age group. I have had many role models throughout my life and they have all impacted my life in their own way. My biggest role models have been my 8th grade math teacher Ms. Gurrola, my maternal grandfather, Higinio, and my 8th grade Language Arts teacher, Ms. Cordova. All of these individuals in their own way have had a significant impact on my life and are part of the reason why I choose to become a teacher. By learning about these people that have meant so much to me you can learn a lot me as a person and how I will be as teacher. One of the most memorable and favorite teachers I have had is my eighth grade math teacher Ms. Gurrola. Although she wasn t my favorite teacher at the time, today is she is one of my most significant roles models and inspirations for becoming a teacher. Being a new member of the bilingual program at my school, Ms. Gurrola s math class was one of the most challenging because I had never taken a math class in Spanish before and although Spanish is my first language the terminology was new to me. To me, Ms. Gurrola was a great teacher in spite of her strict rules and at times unpleasant attitude. She knew her subject matter very well and was always open to helping her students whenever possible. She had a strong accent that made it evident that she was bilingual and that English was not her first language. It was rumored that she had come to the United States from Mexico with a convent of nuns but left and became a teacher. I did not realize her value as a teacher until one day that I stayed after school with her to finish an exam for her class. I was upset with her over something that happened the previous day in class and I gave her a little bit of attitude that day yet when I went to her class after school it seemed as if nothing had ever happened. • 11. Persuasive Essay On Invasive Plants How easy is it to take care of a plant; pretty simple right? Just give the plant water and sunlight and it will most likely grow. How about at goldfish? Get a tank, fill it with some water, add the goldfish and make sure to feed it every once in a while. It takes a bit more work but still relatively easy. How about having to take care of a reptile, like an iguana? They are much more difficult to take care of. They also have many more needs including a heat lamp, special diet, forested cage, and they do not like to be handled. When someone no longer wants these pets, they may be tempted to release them in the wild and when this happens it can have devastating effects. When any of the species mentioned above are released into the wild where they are not native, they have a chance to become an invasive species. According to the Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area or CISMA, invasive species are nonnative plants or animals that cause harm to the environment, economy, or human health (CISMA, 2017). Invasive species are normally brought to a new area by people who want to own exotic pets or have plants that will survive in extreme weather. When the conditions are favorable to the species it can survive much better than the native species. If the species happens to find a mate to reproduce, it can grow in population rapidly. This is a poem where she reveals who she is to her readers. Bradstreet is critical of those individuals who place restrictions on women s roles in society, especially in consideration of a female writer in a male dominated environment. In the first few stanzas Bradstreet talks about how her ability as a poet is not up to the task, unlike the work of men. She references the pilgrim as a symbol of determination and perseverance to be followed, especially when hoping to attain a dream. Being a pilgrim herself, and living in a Puritan society, her audience was able to relate to her plight and feelings about the journeys that are taken throughout one s life. In this poem, Bradstreet uses her skills to compare the voyage to America from England to the journey a religious person is to take to Heaven from Earth. Now that the journey of the pilgrim has ended, he no longer has to endure the hardships of the trip to his destination, his dangers past, and travails done. However, in order to reach his destination the pilgrim has made sacrifices, like leaving things behind. Otherwise he wouldn t have been able to accomplish his feat, and therefore, to All cares and fears he bids farewell . Later one Bradstreet contemplates how the pilgrim has been successful in his achievement, and how she herself wanted to be part of such journey. Bradstreet sees herself in the image of the pilgrim, renouncing to the world in her way to Heaven. She feels tempted, but obeys the will of God. Bradstreet reminds others that while it is not easy to live a sinless life, the reward at the end is worth all the effort. She understands the difficulties of her plan, and longs to be at rest and soar on high among the blest. Although the journey is lengthy and arduous, Bradstreet realizes that there are still many years before she achieves her goal, years in which she will have to continue following the Commandments and struggling against the society she has been born in. We made an RC series circuit and connected it to the Rigol wave generator to produce a square waveform for current. Then, we collected data of the voltage across the capacitor at different points in time using a myDAQ and the 4BL application. In order to find the time constant, we linearized the voltage we measured across the capacitor and then performed a linear regression on the data. The equation for the voltage across the capacitor as a function of time is: V_c (t)=V_b (1 e^(( t)/RC) ) where V_c (t) is the voltage across the capacitor as a function of time and V_b is the input voltage. We then linearize the data by manipulating the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Looking at the values for resonance frequency we got from both methods, at first glance it appears that the second method is more accurate. However, in order to better compare the two methods, we can calculate the percent error from the theoretical value for the resonant frequency. The formula for percent error is: percent error=| (experimental value accepted value)/(accepted value) | × 100 We get that the percent error for method 1 is 19.3% and the percent error for method 2 is 1.2%. This affirms that the method 2 is the more accurate method to measure the resonant frequency. This may be due to the fact that method 1 involves using estimations by eye, which allows for human error and inaccurate estimations. The difference between the experimental and theoretical values for the resonant frequency could also result from faulty equipment, which may not function as the manufacturer claims or be worn down by natural decay. Lastly using the theoretical value for the RLC circuit and Equation 2, we calculate a Q factor of Q=0.19. This low Q factor indicates that the peak of the curve is not very sharp and there could have been overdamping, which potentially increases the error in reading the resonant frequency, especially for the reading by ... According to this data set these four producers accounts for approximately 65% 70% of iron ore produced for the export market. This suggests the market has medium level of concentration reflecting a scenario of monopolistic competition. Another aspect to consider when examining the iron ore export market is the degree of product differentiation between iron ore producing firms. Product differentiation impacts the ability or preference of buyers to substitute products, in this case iron ore, produced by different firms. Iron ore is mined in a variety of different types; hematite, goethite, limonite and magnetite which contain different concentrations of iron. Many participants reported not seeing anything but their rate of correct answers was above chance level. This implies that the stimuli were processed pre attentionally as the participants had no explicit recollection of seeing the stimuli and therefore did not pay attention to it. However, a criticism of this study is that it was conducted 80 years ago, which would mean that their equipment is not to the same standard as modern studies. This could have led to methodological problems including whether they presented each stimulus for the same length of time in every condition and to every participant. Further support for the pre attentional approach of object recognition comes from Sperling (1960). They presented 12 letters (4x3 grid) for a short period of time and asked participants to recall as many as possible. The average response was 4 5 correct letters. However, when participants associated a line of letters with a tone (high, medium or low) and were then asked to recall the letters from either of those lines, they were largely able to remember all of the letters from that row implying that they had the ability to recall around 9 of the letters in total. This suggests that the letters were processed pre attentionally as the participants were unaware that they had remembered them. A criticism of this study is that it focuses on memory more than ... With pressures both internally and externally, leaders must constantly reassess who, what, when, where, why and how they do business. Barret responded to these pressures by introducing more reorganization of the company and also a change in strategy by cancelling the 4 GHz Pentium 4. This restructure of business units would ensure that work was systematized throughout the organization. Huang, Chen and Han (2011) suggest that even a reorganization based on top of the line principles will not be successful if it is not directed by a strong, perfectly timed business idea. Intel s new CEO to take control after Barret was Paul Otellini, and he was in for a big challenge to keep these changes moving in a positive direction. If I was Paul Otellini, I would definitely step back, review all the changes and strategies which were put in place and assess which worked and which did not. • 28. The Stereotypes Of Disney s Hidden Glass Ceiling Royal diversity Disney s Hidden Glass Ceiling What is the glass ceiling? How can we change it? And where does Disney fit into this? One of the earliest citation came from the magazine world in 1984. It was basically about women who reach a certain point in middle management where they get stuck and they are unable to move forward. Since then the definition has broadened it s become a metaphor that represents an invisible barrier that keeps a given demographic (usually women and minorities) from rising beyond. Believe it or not, Disney has contributed its fair share to this with some of its beloved animated princess movies. Most of them featured the helpless female who eventually finds their prince charming, who then sweeps her off her feet, then suddenly her whole life changes she lives happily ever after. Sadly, that sends a message to our young girls that to have happiness and a purpose they need to have a man to achieve that. Disney has had some success with moving away from female passivity in stories featuring white characters. In Mulan and the princess and the frog, Disney did not achieve gender or racial equality. The Disney franchise is a powerful force in the lives of young girls, especially girls of color seeking same race role models in the public eye (. Dundes, Streiff, 2016, p1). By unveiling Disney s hidden glass ceiling, we can start to get a more realistic view of our children s movies and start to distance ourselves from racial, sexism, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Manoeuvrist Approach Throughout history, military theorists and commanders have attempted to determine and define the most effective way to defeat an adversary and achieve victory. British military doctrine defines this method as the Manoeuvrist Approach or indirect approach, which main focus is basically on attacking enemy s cohesion and will to fight rather than focusing purely on the destruction of his physical component. The approach itself is based on manoeuvre theory, which relies on speed, deception, surprise, and the application of firepower and movement or application of own strengths against opponents weaknesses and vulnerabilities, while protecting the same on our own side. However, all this is not sufficient without seizing initiative. Having initiative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A key characteristic of the manoeuvrist approach is the attacking enemy s decision making process by attempting to get inside his decision making cycle (known as OODA loop cycle). OODA loop (observe orient decide act) is theory presented by American John Boyd and its essence is to be faster through OODA loop cycle than the enemy. If we can consistently go through the OODA cycle faster than the enemy, make faster decisions and act before him, we gain an advantage and enemy loses his cohesion until he can no longer fight as an effective, organized force. However, in order to be faster than enemy some preconditions have to be achieved. Firstly, according to Boyd, only decentralized military with application of mission command can have a fast OODA loop. Secondly, through decentralization, to operate successfully in fog of war we need to accept confusion and disorder, and also to generate them. Thirdly, while operating in confusion and disorder we need to avoid all patterns, recipes and formulas, because if our tactics follow predictable patterns, the enemy can predict our actions and easily cut inside our OODA Loop. Lear, for example, believes himself to be a great and respected King, who is wealthy and powerful. Nevertheless, he is constantly reminded by the actions of Goneril, and Regan, that he is an old man who has lost his kingdom, his only faithful daughter, and his wits. O, sir, you are very old! Nature in you stands on the very verge of her confine. Consequently, when Goneril and Regan are cutting down his train, he still believes that their love can be measured in words and numbers Thy fifty yet doth double five and twenty, and thou art twice her love (II.iv.261 262).
