Early Marriage Of Girls Negatively Affects Health...
Early marriage:
Early marriage of girls negatively affects health wellbeing among young women. In Sub Saharan
Africa, spiritual appeasement is among key reasons attributed to early marriage. In fact, girls
/young women are usually sacrificed to the ancestral spirit world (Sithole, 2007). (40) Mbiti
(1999) and Bediako (1997) explain that in African faith practice, females are generally viewed as
having a higher connectivity to the spirit world than males. For this reason, female children are the
preferred spiritual sacrifices because of their biological ability to reproduce children that will
promote generational continuity to the ancestral spirits. This notion may explain why a girl child,
and not a boy, is traditionally the choice for appeasing the spirits. Whether the motive to encourage
early marriage is cultural or spiritual or anywhere in between, it remains a fact that the practice
contributes to reduced health status for women as their bodies are oftren not physiologically ready
for childbearing leading to complications at child birth. A report on child and early marriage
showed that 38% of young women were married before reaching the age of 18, which make them
more likely to stop their education, become more vulnerable to physical and sexual abuse, to death
during pregnancy and delivery, to delivering unhealthy children, and would most certainly remain
caged in poverty. (41) All this chaos is protected in Sudan by the Personal Status Muslim Act of

Research Paper On The Wolf Of Wall Street
The Wolf of Wall Street The year Jordan Belfort turned 26 he made $49 million, three shy of a
million a week. However, he made most of this money illegally. Belfort is most known for his
book which turned into the movie The Wolf of Wall Street , where he is portrayed by Leonardo
DiCaprio. Success was all Belfort wanted, and in his mind achieving success meant attaining
money. Jordan Belfort s desire to be the best drove him to commit illegal actions. These included
fraud, money laundering, and using massive amounts of drugs. This ultimately led to the
consequences of 22 months in prison and repaying millions of dollars back to investors. Becoming
wealthy is all Belfort wanted, but once he got there he did not want to stop. After creating

by embracing social media practices. Purpose statement The purpose of this report is to... Show

person decides which natural supplement to buy. While browsing the group discussion about
usefulness of natural supplements, if one notices a great review of a New Nordic product that
clearly shares amazing first hand personal experience with the natural supplement a customer to

TJX Data Breach Analysis
One of the first data breaches that personally affected me was the TJX data breach that happened
in 2005 2006. At the time I was both an employee and shopper for the brand. The breach
happened due to using a weak Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) protocol instead of the stronger
Wi Fi Protected Access (WAP) protocol , not being up to date on PCI (payment card industry)
compliance, and overall behind in securitycontrols (Patrizio, 2007). TJX also did not have the
technology in place to flag and monitor suspicious activity. This breach resulted in over 45 million
credit and debit cards being compromised (Vijayan, 2007).
Another breach that I am familiar with due to being a customer is the Target breach in 2013. This
breach was similar with TJX ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This breach trumped both the TJX and Target numbers combined! It affected up to 143 million
Americans (Yurieff, 2017). This breach was slightly different as it exposed not only credit card
information, but also sensitive information, such as social security numbers, addresses, birth dates,
and driver license numbers (Yurieff, 2017). According to the article in CNN News (Yurieff, 2017),
Equifax said criminals exploited a U.S. website application vulnerability to gain access to certain
files.
As stated above, all examples share in one of the types of information compromised, which was
credit card information. All three had vulnerabilities in I.T. security, TJX and Equifax with not
having the necessary controls in place and Target in not have the proper people in place making
decisions and/or incident reporting guidelines.
Many lessons can be learned from these breaches. First of all, the foundations of security need to
be in place and reviewed very often to keep relevant in today s ever changing electronic world.
Secondly, the people in charge need to understand the importance of their position and should be
held accountable for any personal liabilities they may cause for the company through improper or
inadequate performance or reporting. Another lesson is that the cost of prevention is worth so
much more than the costs of dealing with the consequences. Each one of these examples have
resulted in huge

Feudalism And The Code Of Chivalry
The act of Feudalism and The Code of Chivalry both arose sometime during the medieval time
period. Feudalism was said to be based on the exchange of land for military service ( Feudalism ).
This meant the King would reward those who were loyal to him and fought during battle with land.
Life lived under the Medieval Feudal System, or Feudalism, demanded that everyone owed
allegiance to the King and their immediate superior ( Feudalism ). This lead to the creation of The
Feudalism Pyramid, which changed England s society.
The Feudalism Pyramid segregated and ranked individuals based on the amount of power one
obtained. Obtaining power was usually based on the amount of land one owned. However, the
ranking of the pyramid was typically in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Comparing Doyle And Atwood
Doyle and Atwood use an effective combination of short, snappy sentences along with longer,
breathless sentences in their prose in order to keep the audience interested and involved in the
reading. In Brian Doyle s Joyas Volardores I was intrigued how he made an animal as small as a
hummingbird seem like such a marvelous creature leaving me with a sense of awe after reading
the first paragraph. He gives a very vivid description of the birds in the second paragraph; so vivid
I felt that he was exaggerating to a certain extent. I was surprised to find that as I continued reading
Doyle started to discreetly add a human element to the story. Although he was talking about birds
and whales, Doyle intentionally uses the word you three times

Bonds Of Family In Arcite And Palamon In A Knight s Tale
Brothers, cousins, and family turn to enemies quickly over the small matters in life. Geoffrey
Chaucer s A Knight s Tale took two cousins with a bond stronger than life, death, and misery, and
tore it apart like cotton candy over a worthless love. Arcite and Palamon (our main characters) were
prisoners of war of the great Theseus. They claimed to make oaths to one another, and that they
would be loyal to each other until death. These claims were nothing, but words. In the first real test
of their kinship, their bond withered without a second thought. Oaths of loyalty and the bonds of
familywere virtually unbreakable in these times, or were they? Obviously these warriors cared little
for the brotherly connections they shared as they let coincidence and chance dictate their loyalty to
one another. They were painted as noble and honorable men, but they were mainly prideful,
ignorant, and selfish. By the end of the tale, Arcite himself hardly even knew his true intentions
anymore. Palamon and Arcites conflict developed exponentially, which brought to light how true
their loyalties really were. From the beginning, their loyalty to each other never seemed to have a
rock solid foundation. Despite this Arcite and Palamon were depicted as very close and very loyal
to one another in the story. Nevertheless I disagree with this notion that they were ever truly close,
because of how quickly their relationship deteriorated. When the two had found Emily they had
already been

Christ Birth Research Paper
Christmas is arguably the biggest holiday in the western world. It is the holiday that brings forth
the spirt of joy, giving s and love. Christmas is also the year that brings forth remembrance of
Jesus Christ s birth. However, the nativity story, the story of Christ birth, has much more meaning
to it then what people reflect on it as. When the Nativity story is told it seems the main focus or the
happy ending is always the savior birth. That arguably is not what the Bible fully attended the focus
to remain on. The Nativity story is more than just a story about Christbirth; it is a metaphor that
paints the picture of the two people s faith in God and ultimately the gospel in a nutshell. Many

Mary knew that Joseph would most likely leave her due to her mysteries pregnancy and a
tarnished reputation. Although, those things are very important factors to look at when
considering the risk Mary took, when she accepted to birth the Messiah, the most significate risk
Mary had taken was the endangerment of her own life. According to the Old Testament law, if a
women failed to remain physically pure before marriage she would be brought to the door of her
father s house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die: because she hath
wrought folly in Israel, to play the whore in her father s house: so shalt thou put evil away from
among you. And if the women was betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and
lie with her; Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them
with stones that they die. Again, Mary knew the challenges she had to face. She had nothing but
a story of an angel to give to Joseph and the towns people. The possibility of Joseph and the
towns people believing that Mary, a poor servant, miraculously became pregnant by the Holy Spirit
is as slim as it would be now. In fact, most would conclude that Mary was covering up an immoral
relationship with Roman soldier. Yet, Mary kept the same attitude that her son had in Gethsemane
when He prayed, not my will, but thine, be done. Regardless,

Crime, As A Phenomenon, Tends To Vary In Prevalence By
Crime, as a phenomenon, tends to vary in prevalence by location. Some scholars state that a city
does not develop randomly, but grows according to basic social processes such as invasion,
dominance and accommodation (Robert E. Park, 1925) which then establishes a moral order .
social ecosystems behold and develop unique values meaning the sanctity of aspects such as family,
environment, materials, and culture in certain geographical spaces may be more susceptible to crime
than other spaces. In Australia, the two biggest factors that influence the rate of crime seem to be
population density and economic disparity. This, along with acclaimed criminological theory such
as crime pattern theory and routine activity theory provides an... Show more content on

From January 2016 to January 2017, Fremantle experienced 383 assaults, North Bridge with 420,
and Perth with 834. Although the scene of the nightlife in itself may have some contribution to
criminal activity, it is typically the socialisation between large, dense groups of people that
encourage potentially dangerous factors like drug and alcohol abuse.

However, with non
violent crimes, some researchers found that property crime is more prevalent in regions containing
smaller cities and towns rather than large cities (AndrГ© Michel Guerry, 1830). Overall, Guerry
end up concluding that associating crime as a direct correlation to population density is rather an
oversimplification of crime as a phenomenon, ignoring a variety of factors which regularly (but not
all the time) accompany population density. Guerry s conclusion still holds strong relevance in
contemporary arguments; especially in Australia. The state governments of New South Wales and
Victoria predicate their arguments for more funding from the Australian Grants Commission on the
fact that their cities are larger and more densely populated thus producing a more crime producing
environment which justifies more funding. However, this justification is opposed by surveys and
police data that express WA and SA having experienced higher crime rates than NSW and Victoria,
and their cities having at minimum similar rates with the two

Another example of this is when Tough introduces Laude and Yeager, Tough uses them as
transitional points in the text, but also he uses their work as potential solutions to the problem he is
presenting.
This style of transition would be fine if executed correctly. However, the way in which Tough
organized these transitions pulls the reader back and forth between different subjects, at times losing
the focus of the article, and making it easy for the reader to get lost within the text.
Another problem readers may face is the style of Tough s writing, mainly due to his tendency to
ramble, and his disposition for redundancy. [example] Tough did a great job at supporting his
argument with the statistics he presented. However, often times the statistics but this unnecessary
information took away the conciseness of the article, and causes his main points to have less of
an impact then they could have. One potential area that could pose big problems for someone
reading this is overall length of this article. Length is not generally an issue because readers tend
to develop their own strategies when dealing with a long read, either by reading in chunks, or
reading it all in one go, readers still have the capacity to finish what they are assigned. However, the
redundancy of the text, makes this

Women and Sports Essay
Women and Sports
As it becomes increasingly acceptable for women to be athletic in American culture, a new question
arises: in which sports should women be allowed to participate? From a physiological standpoint, it
has been scientifically proven that female bodies do not differ significantly enough from male
bodies to prevent them from participation in any male sports. This division between male and
female sports clearly stems from age old, socially constructed norms of femininity and masculinity.
When women attempt to challenge these societal molds by participating in sports that are
traditionally male, the intricate web of norms is disrupted. Like many other instances where
traditional social constructions are tinkered with, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women are expected to be more passive than their male counterparts. When a woman participates
in sport, she challenges many aspects of the gender role that has been defined for her. First, she is
taking time away from her family to do an activity that is outside the home. Second, in sport, she is
behaving in a more aggressive and competitive manner, which contradicts the meek feminine mold
to which she is supposed to adhere. Furthermore, when women compete in public, suddenly the
lines begin to blur. Men no longer have the monopoly over the role of universal breadwinner.
Challenging these socially constructed lines works as a catalyst for social change. All women
athletes, both in traditional and non traditional sports, play a pivotal role in instigating this change.
Female bodies were traditionally expected to be small, slender, soft, and pretty, while male bodies
were supposed to be muscular, large, solid, and handsome. Sports such as gymnastics and figure
skating allow and almost require that women maintain such feminine physical qualities. Athletes
competing in sports such as power lifting and rowing are encouraged to increase muscle mass at a
rapid rate thereby acquiring a physical stature that society deems masculine. Furthermore, while
technique is essential to these sports, there is a significant emphasis on brute strength. Brute
strength contradicts the passive femininity that is expected of women.

Don t Waste Time With Time Management
Don t Waste Time With Time Management
By Laura Ashley Timms
Nov 24, 2011
We ve all heard of the concept of Time Management, but how many of us would claim that we have
really mastered it?
How do you succeed at managing your time? There is more to it than simply having and
following a schedule, as anybody who has tried this approach knows. Trying to organise what you
already do in a day to fit into a smaller space of time will not be possible simply because you type
it up and print it out as an itinerary or write it down in a planner. For this reason we talk instead
about Time Leverage, a more practical approach to making sure that your time is being used as
effectively as possible.
Time is a restricted resource.
Some companies may have bigger start up funds or a better network of potential clients, but
everybody is gifted the same amount of time in a day. Planning how to use the time you are
given should not be a matter of working through a to do list as fast as you possibly can. Whilst
this may make you super efficient, it may not be moving you towards your goals. For instance,
you may be incredibly organised in checking your mail and emails daily, with a small or empty
inbox, but if you never find a moment to email or call a potential new client or an important
contact, you simply remain static, performing tasks which will not move you closer to your or your
organisation s goals.
Be effective, not just efficient.
You will hopefully, as a business owner, already

Dr Cohan Body Image Summary
The video that Dr. Cohan shared was really insightful and very informative.Eating disorders and
bodty image has been an issue in our society for a very long time. A lot of points were made by
Dr. Cohan to help her audience understand obesity and body image in relation to the sociology
view of things. For most of us, our body is very private. It s something that we cherish and
respect and take care of. It is our home and our responsibility is to take care for it. But like Dr.
Cohan pointed out, as private as our body is to us it is actually a public issue that relates to
social structure. She states that the body is socially and culturally constructed. I can agree with
this statement. Society and different cultural aspects definitely influence and determine the
decisions we make in regards to our body and body image. I found it interesting in knowing the
different ways a body could be viewed, in terms of how it can be percieved, valued, and treated.
The way Milian King suggested that the body becomes a sight for asserting, imposing,
performing, challenging, and destabilizing categories of gender, race ethnicity, and sexuality. On
a day to day basis, one doesn t think of all the ways the image of a body is broken down, but when
it is brought to light in this way, it is true. I agree with Dr. Cohan on... Show more content on

The Mission Of Carbon Offsets
Our Mission The mission of Carbon Offsets To Alleviate Poverty (COTAP) is to empower
individuals and organizations in developed countries to address both climate change and global

farming communities where income levels are less than $2 per day. The Problem In developing
regions around the world, hundreds of millions of people live in rural areas on less than $2 per
day. This level of poverty forces communities to make hard choices between food, health care,
and education. It is the poverty level where an estimated 11 million children die every year. Many
of these communities are not fits for traditional microfinance, which tends to be primarily urban,
and significant portions of their land are not suitable for agriculture. While there are many
promising technical innovations and development programs which can increase crop yields, there
remains a geographic limitation on markets where such increased yields can be sold. The result is
that there are farming communities all over the world who could be made much less economically
vulnerable if there were a way to generate significant supplemental income from non crop land
usage which did not rely on physical distribution. The proven potential of small scale forestry

Corruption Of Prisoners In Plato s Arguments Of Democracy
In a dark cave there are prisoners, restricted to seeing what shadows puppeteers cast upon the
stone screen in front of them. This timeless story by Plato, used as a metaphor for those that are,
to the philosopher Plato, lowbrows, and have no desire to question what is around them and find
the truth and embrace ignorance. I have experienced this first hand, being an exemplification of
what it means to not question what I have faith in, or seek more. However, I have also experienced
what it is to be the prisonerthat turns his head, as well as the prisoner that turns the other cheek.
When Plato was writing this dialogue, his goal was to show those in the metaphorical cave, how
daft and short sided he believes them to be. When Plato articulates the puppeteers through the voice
of Socrates, he says, ...and between the fire and the prisoners there is a raised ... Show more content

of the bank had called Tamara into his office. A bulletin had just come over the banks wire
indicating that a military coup had taken place in Portugal.
The bulletin also reported that the new military dictator had frozen all foreign assets in Portugal and
had imposed strict currency controls to keep capital from fleeing the country. When the Chairman
heard about this, he asked Tamara a perfectly logical question:
What was the bank s exposure in Portugal?

She had complete confidence in their judgment and was kept informed through monthly reports as
well as phone conversations on any major transactions. Tamara made semiannual visits to all the
branches and quite often would accompany the CEOs of major clients when they went abroad to
arrange for mergers or acquisitions.
During these trips, Tamara made sure that the local branch manager accompanied her on all client
visits. Once every quarter, each branch manager visited headquarters in New York to review clients,
discuss plans, and exchange ideas. Tamara would try to schedule these meetings so that as many
managers as possible would be in New York at the same time. This afforded a chance for the
managers to meet and to exchange information about mutual clients. All in all, the working
environment at AIB was competitive but cordial, and there was a feeling of trust and mutual
respect among management personnel.
Each of the branches had a computer. These ranged in size from an IBM 4300 system at the
London office to minicomputers in all the other offices. London was the most automated of the
overseas offices; it was the largest, and it also had a thriving trust operation and a merchant banking
business (securities transactions). The other offices used their computers to maintain branch
financial records, bank ledgers, and information needed to prepare government regulatory reports.

Social Disorganization Theory And Crime
Starz Power , Social Disorganization Theory and Crime
Introduction:
In the television show Power , organized crime is the most prevalent form of crime displayed.
Organized crime can be defined as a methodically unlawful activity for profit on a city wide.
interstate and worldwide scale. The act of engaging in criminal activity as a structured assembly
is called racketeering in the United States. The premise of this project is to research social
disorganization theory as it pertains to the television series Power . Power catalogs the life of
James St. Patrick, who is also known as Ghost . Ghost has become a powerful figure in New
York City s biggest drug network. The series follows Ghost as he struggles with living a double
life and his quest for legitimate business ventures. As Ghost gets closer to legitimacy, a string of
violent crimes began to take place within and around his network. My research will incorporate
the first two episodes of the first season. This paper will present an analysis of organized crime
from a sociological standpoint and uncover that social disorganization creates a need for
organized crime i.e drug networks and street gangs which increases the occurrence of violent
crime and other social disparities . I will investigate the relationship between the presence of
organized crime and social disparities n a disorganized society in my analysis of Power .

17th Century Literature Throughout Europe
14th Century Literature in Europe The 14th century consisted of many different events, which then
lead to a rise in literary movements and influential writers. The writers and poets of medieval
Europe created their own tropes and themes throughout the entire history of the century. 14th
century literature is greatly impacted by many factors: historical, religious, aesthetic. The 14th
century also contained a mass of literary movements, often times coexisting with the
aforementioned factors. Historical Events and Context Peasants Revolt The Peasants Revolt was
an aftermath of the Black Death, which also greatly influenced literature and arts throughout its
course. The Peasants Revolt year 1381 significantly altered literature during the course of the
14th century. The Peasants Revolt was unique in its significance because what is considered
modern day England was the only medieval society to have a peasants revolt (Swain). Naturally,
such a huge uprising brings influence with it. Besides the Bubonic Plague, another reason for the
Peasants Revolt occurred due an expanding middle class, which then in turn took land away from
Nobles. This land crisis caused the Nobility to have an upset, and they enacted a law to stop the
Peasant Class from having social mobility. Like most societal uprising, money was a huge factor.
This new law included a poll tax, which heavily taxed the lower class. Unfortunately, the Nobles
made an error and based the tax on the population before

The Impact Of Pcaob s New Audit Standard On Regulators,...
On December 15, 2015, the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) posted new
final regulations that require auditors of public companies to disclose the identity of the
engagement partner on each audit, as well as information on other accounting firms that
participated in each audit (PCAOB 2015). Although the new AuditStandards seem to be perfectly
reasonable and relatively low in cost, they obviously will impose a certain workload on
accounting firms, which will translate into certain additional costs. So who pays for this? Not the
PCAOB, of course, but the accounting firms, who will no doubt pass these costs on to their clients.
In this paper, I will analyze the impact of PCAOB s new audit standard on regulators, financial...

In Taiwan, every audit report requires the disclosure of both the audit firm and the audit
engagement partner s name (Huang, 2009). The fact that many large economy countries like
Taiwan follows the standard shows that this rule is effective in enhance audit quality as well as
the public trust in audit at a certain degree. An audit partner plays a very important role in the
quality of the audit. They primarily responsible for the final audit quality even though audit
quality is the result of the whole audit team. Therefore, having audit engagement partner s name
disclosed will hold an audit partner more responsible for the audit report. The partners will have
to make sure their audit team really perform effective audit work, which results in a higher audit
quality. Moreover, financial report users will feel more comfortable to reliance on the audit report
when they know in confidence the person who holds accountability for the audit report is. The
ultimate purpose of the PCAOB is to improve the quality of financial reporting and its benefits to
users. For the same reason, making the U.S auditing standards compatible with its global
counterparts would improve audit quality and usefulness, especially since many U.S companies
practice internationally.
In addition, having the information about engagement partner s names and about other accounting

Alienation And What Effect It Has On Contemporary Society...
Introduction It has been argued that Karl Marx theory of alienation has lost relevance in
contemporary society when understanding the relationship of the individual worker in a
capitalist society. It is this statement being proposed by several sociologists who believe
alienation being an empty statement in relation to contemporary society. However like many
other sociological concepts this one is still contested which is why I will explore the theory of
alienation and what effect it has on contemporary society, and argue that Marx s theory of
alienation still applies to the process of the owners of production exploiting the working classes.
I will start by looking into the four different dimensions of alienation and how these relate to
Marx s critique of capitalist society, then relating this concept to modern society. the four
dimensions of alienation Alienation as a definition was initially conflicted as it has very different
meanings such as the English definition defines alienation as to turn away the feelings of
someone or to transfer an individual s property Affine, Y. H. (1997). Alienation has been
described as a lack of self actualisation (ester, 1985, p. 77) which results in a non satisfaction of
needs in an individual however this is vague because there are a variety of basic human needs that
need to be satisfied. While others went further to say that alienation is when an individuals is

The Relationship Between Punk and Dada Essay
THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN DADA AND PUNK
It is difficult to estimate when people began to create different theories, movements and
ideologies with regards to what is positive and negative in the world that we live in. A part and
parcel of human nature has always been an individual desire to be a part of the perfect world
which unfortunately is mainly stimulated by individuals in power. Therefore this bore a
disagreement and critique among minorities and has been exploding over the centuries in different
forms of cultural movements. One of the greatest cultural trends began in Zurich and it is known as

The message that Dada and Punk tried to achieve through their work in the context of desired
reality is very similar as both of them bore from a social outburst. Punk was a form of artistic
anarchy against system control and specific pattern of society, whereas Dada was an Anti War
movement . However, very interesting is the fact that they were relatively unrelated and occurred
around 50 years apart. Although the vocalist of a very controversial punk rock band Sex Pistols ,
Johnny Rotten said he had never heard about Dada there can be found the same themes of
inspirations as in Dadaism. Therefore assuming that the group Sex Pistols did not model on
Dadaism and any other movements or trends, this might be associated with a human nature. The

The Pros And Cons Of Uniforms In Schools
School uniforms: a debate that has been tossed back and forth for years now. The percentage of
schools that necessitate uniforms and the percentage of the ones that do not are approximately

negatives and positives being drawn between both arguments. Uniforms being a part of school
systems became widespread first after Long Beach, California implemented them into their
elementary and middle schools. It is safe to say that since then, schools have become far more

so prominent in a teenager s life, precautions must be made.
Accepting uniforms in a school will help it present itself in a more professional and safe manner.
For instance, if someone were to come up to the school requesting entrance wearing clothing

due to students wanting to stay with the times and the latest trends. In the logic of the adolescent

and so a time consuming cycle is forged. This would cost the parents more of their salary that could

A Case Study of Singapore
Introduction
Singapore has long built its economy on its strategic positioning for trade. The country is now
home to the world s second largest container port according to the World Shipping Council
(2013). The country s position as a leading trade makes it a natural place to find solutions to
global supply chain issues, and has also encouraged a significant amount of foreign direct
investment in the country. Foreign companies have set up shop in Singapore, often in either
services or retail. This paper will analyze some of the issues that foreign firms dealing in Singapore
have with respect to global supply chain management.
Case Study #1: Starbucks
Starbucks has a significant retail presence in Singapore, but it also benefits from the country s
geographic position in a couple of ways. The first is that Singapore is situated in the heart of a
fertile coffee growing region critical islands like Java, Sumatra and New Guinea are nearby, as are
high volume growing regions like Vietnam. Starbucks has set up a regional distribution center in
Singapore in order to manage the flow of goods and services throughout Asia, both in terms of raw
materials and finished goods.
Changi Airport Group (2013) notes that Starbucks is one of many Western countries to have such a

A Metamorphosis Of The Paperweight, By George Orwell

#06 Paper One Final A metamorphosis of the paperweight 1984, by George Orwell, is an
overwhelming novel that seeks to notify humanity about the dangers of authoritarian rule and
the aftermath of it all. In the novel, the paperweight is one of the greatest symbols because it is
futile and beauty exists in it. However it is a sign of rebellion, through its simple and yet
peculiar nature, in the eyes of The Party; it contradicts the idea that everything and everyone
must be useful. One can come to a consensus that the coral and the glass dome represent Winston
and the upper room or party, respectively. This is due to the fact that the glass and or room
encases the coral or in this case Winston, or so he thinks. One is also aware that the paperweight
reveals a part of the past, which sparks Winston s curiosity to what the hope for freedom really
meant in the past this is a form of rebellion as the idea of freedom from Oceana is forbidden by
the party. However, Orwell argues that the seemingly positive significance of the paperweight will
be at a state of compromise through the use of sense perception, the remembrance of the past, and
the destruction of the paperweight. Because the paperweight is a representation of Julia and
Winston in the secrecy of the room, it reveals an inaccurate psychological form of the truth. By
referring to terms such as light (Orwell, p.130) gazes (Orwell, p.130)

Maistre In Canterbury Tales
The lack of literacy and the church s tremendous power during the Middle Ages resulted in a chain
of being ; the order was established by the church and only emphasized the patriarchal society of the
time. During the late fourteenth century, Chaucer wrote The Canterbury Tales, a collection of
individual stories that included The Wifeof Bath. The last stanza of The Wife of Bath s Prologue
culminates the Wife s argument that the concept of maistre should rest in the hands of the female
partner in order to balance the unequal footing created by the chain of being.
The concept of maistre is defined as the sovereignty in a marriage, that is, whichever partner has the
maistre has the power in a union. The passage takes place after the confrontation between the Wife
of Bath and her fifth husband, Janekin. After such a brutal physical fight, they reconcile at last
with muchel care and wo (817). Chaucer s use of the word care characterizes the actions of the
two as timid and tender; the two tip toe around the other. The Wife loves Janekin so much that
she appointed him maister of my body and of my good, (320) which granted him full maistre.
Janekin reinforced his power over his wife by refraining from satisfying her sexual desires. After
suffering through Janekin s control, He yaf me al the bridel in myn hand, (819) the Wife receives
the metaphorical reins of their marriage back. The governance of hous and land (820) also

The Baroque era spans a period of 150 years. During this time, baroque art had four distinct styles.
I plan to focus on the Italian Baroque and the Protestant Baroque styles. While these styles share
some similarities, they are also very different. The Italian Baroque style is often ornate and focused
on religion with an emphasis on the need for the church s guidance. The Protestant Baroquestyle is
plain with no obvious religious messages and less need for guidance from the church. Both styles
contain many amazing pieces of artwork, but I plan to focus on Bernini s Baldacchino and Vermeer
s Woman Holding a Balance.
The Italian Baroque style of art was established by the Catholic Church to bring individuals
focus back to the church. This is also known as Counter Reformation. The artwork was often
very elaborate, large in scale, showed movement and contained religious objects that glorified the
Catholic Church (Armstrong). Another trademark of this time was the ability of the artwork to
evoke emotions (Hollander). It was their attempt to show people they must lean on the church to
be successful. If there is one piece of art that displays all of these characteristics perfectly, it is
the Baldacchino by Bernini. This is a magnificent piece that one could stare at for hours and
probably not take in all of the details. The scale of the Baldacchino is enormous. The Baldacchino
is located in St. Peter s Basilica and made of bronze and stands ninety three feet high

Chosen Chapter Summary
Captain Keith Mallory, the main character of the book is introduced. Chosen by Captain Jensen,
he is to lead a sabotage mission into the fortress on the island of Navarone, occupied by Germans,
and destroy the two guns in it, the guns of Navarone. The guns need to be destroyed so that ships
can evacuate the island of Kheros, which is close to Navarone. Because of the guns, the navy
vessels are unable to approach Kheros without taking heavy casualties. Numerous attacks on
Navarone have been unsuccessful and the sabotage mission is the last option to destroy the guns.
The plan is for Malloryand his team of specialists, introduced later in the book, to enter the island
of Navarone from the South side. The South side of Navarone is one great cliff,... Show more

Once the group arrives at the Navy base in Castelrosso, Mallory shows the plan of action to the
rest of the group. While discussing the plans, they apprehend a spy, the laundry boy, who is to
be imprisoned until the operation is over. A few hours later the team sets off again, this time on a
torpedo boat. At the next stop, they switch their torpedo boat to an old caique. On the way to
Navarone they encounter a German patrol boat. Thy are forced to attack the ship and sink it to
prevent being caught with a cargo of explosives and an arsenal of weapons. Their boat also has
engine trouble, and they decide to dock at a nearby island. When they get to the island, they realize
that there is a German watchtower on it. A German sentry from the watchtowercomes out to inspect
their ship, but turns back without further inspection when Mallory shows him forged papers and
letters of authority supposedly from a German general. Later, the Germans are somehow tipped off
about the mission, and Andrea sneaks into the watchtower. The others distract the guards, and
Andrea apprehends them and locks them in the basement of the tower. They fix the engine and set
off toward Navarone

Herzberg s Theory Of Employee Retention
Employee retention refers to the ability of an organization to retain its employees. Employee
retention can be represented by a simple statistic (for example, a retention rate of 80% usually
indicates that an organization kept 80% of its employees in a given period). However, many
consider employee retention as relating to the efforts by which employers attempt to retain
employees in their workforce. In this sense, retention becomes the strategies rather than the
outcome. A distinction should be drawn between low performing employees and top performers,
and efforts to retain employees should be targeted at valuable, contributing employees. Employee
turnover is a symptom of deeper issues that have not been resolved, which may include low
employee morale, absence of a clear career path, lack of recognition, poor employee manager
relationships or many other issues. A lack of satisfaction and commitment to the organization can
also cause an employee to withdraw and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The theories have overlap, but the fundamental nature of each model differs. While Maslow s
Hierarchy implies the addition or removal of the same need stimuli will enhance or detract from
the employee s satisfaction, Herzberg s findings indicate that factors garnering job satisfaction are
separate from factors leading to poor job satisfaction and employee turnover. Herzberg s system of
needs is segmented into motivators and hygiene factors. Like Maslow s Hierarchy, motivators are
often unexpected bonuses that foster the desire to excel. Hygiene factors include expected
conditions that if missing will create dissatisfaction. Examples of hygiene factors include
bathrooms, lighting, and the appropriate tools for a given job. Employers must utilize positive
reinforcement methods while maintaining expected hygiene factors to maximize employee
satisfaction and retention (Breaugh, J., and Mary S.

Guns Are Used For Self Defense
Guns are used for Self Defense less than 1% of the time Looking at data from 1992 through
2005 and 2007 through 2011, there were over 192 million violent crimes committed in the
United States during this 17 year period. Of those crimes, the victims chose to use a gun as a self
defensive measure to threaten or attack their offender over 1.3 million times. Over this 17 year
time period, a gun was used as a form of self defense to threaten or attack an offender 0.7% of the
time. Of those 0.7% that used a gun, 0.3% resulted in a justifiable homicide of the offender. The
idea of using a gun for self defense is a pervasive one. The often cited number is that Americans
use a gun as a defensive or self protection measure 2.2 to 2.5 million times per year (Kleck and
Gertz, 1995). However, this number and other high estimates have been scrutinized for their
validity. The Cato Institute s report Tough Targets (Cramer and Burnett, 2012), a pro gun study,
even acknowledges that some studies exaggerate the use of guns to the point of statistical
impossibility. They also mention underreporting, including the datasets used to produce the
numbers you see here (their study produces no numerical rates of gun use for self defense). If the
2.5 million number were true, that would mean close to 1 in 4 people would have actively used a
gun for a self defense. Does that seem plausible? Given the sampling techniques, assumptions made,
and weighting of the data, the numbers 0.7% and 0.3% are

The World Wildlife Fund For Nature
In the future I would like to become a leader in my field, a leader in helping heal and preserve the
world we live in, particularly working with endangered species. Helping to maintain, and boost
their numbers in the wild, as well as possibly working on a preservation, where I could work
closely with others to ensure that my grandchildren will be able to see wildlife. THis being said I
believe that the World Wildlife Fund for Nature is the best place for me to be. The World Wildlife
Fund for Nature is dedicated to saving endangered wildlife, conserving and protecting ecosystems
around the world, reducing the impact humans have on the earth, and teaching humans to work
with nature. There are many offices around the globe in operation, so there is a large chance I
would be able to travel while working with the Wildlife Fund for Nature, but there is not one
singular headquarters, although the central secretariat which is a close to a main headquarters as
the organization gets, is in Gland Switzerland. There are many different important offices, one in
every region. In North America, the headquarters is in Washington DC. World Wildlife Fund is an
international organization that has employees, and volunteers throughout the world, as well as
those people who donate money that cannot physically help. There is approximately 6200 full time
staff members, and roughly 5 million supporters around the globe. Being that there are many offices
and stations around the world, there

The Characteristics Of Max Weber s Bureaucracy
Merriam Webster Dictionary (online) defines Bureaucracy as a government characterized by
specialization of functions, adherence to fixed rules, and a hierarchy of authority and a system of
administration marked by officialism, red tape, and proliferation . It also implies administration by
bureau, which is an administrative unit in an organizational setup and mechanism to realize
rationally ordered social action. It comprises non elected officials, be it a public or private sector
organization, is often viewed as an apparatus or entity that rationalizes power, authority and
decision making in a society. Max Weber, a German sociologist and economist, conceived the
Bureaucratic Management Theory and believed it to be more rational and efficient. According to
Weber (1946), there exists a trichotomy of power: traditional, charismatic and rational legal or
bureaucratic. Weber believes the bureaucratic type of power to be the ideal one. Max Weber s
illustrious and influential work on bureaucracywas a substantial contribution to the discipline of
public administration. He presumes bureaucracy to be an efficient and rational organizational
structure. Brian R. Fry (1989) considers Weber s bureaucracy to be rational one the basis of it
being well conversant with rules and procedures, and possessing the specialized knowledge of the
bureaucratic domain. According to M. Crozier, (1964), key characteristics of the ideal type of
bureaucracy that Weber ideates include fixed official

Who Is A Traveler From Altruria By William Dean Howells
A Traveler From Altruria Many people believe America to be the land of the free and the home of
the brave; a place where we all have the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The
novel, A Traveler from AltruriaВё written by author William Dean Howells, presents many of the
ideals present in the culture of the late nineteenth century. The author uses the characters such as
the lawyer, the minister, the professor, the banker and the novelist in the story to illustrate what is
wrong the American society. The traveler from Altruria, Mr. Homos, comes to America to
experience the everyday life in a country that promotes and prides itself on democracy and equality
and has the foundation that all men are created equal. He is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Unfortunately this supports the idea that Americans truly only look out for themselves because
those who do give back are few and far between. The professor has a major role in helping the
Altrurian understand how American society functions. During this time period, education and
business are kept separate, but the professor believes that one day they will eventually unite. The
professor views businessmen as egotistical, self centered individuals who abandon their morals
in order to do what is necessary to benefit themselves. Education is seen as the opposite, a place
for gentlemen. As a result, if someone wanted to be a good businessman he should not get an
education because education would make him more moral and therefore less of a businessman.
The banker believes education to be completely unnecessary because of the class system. The
lower classes believe education to be unimportant because parents would prefer for their children
to be at home working instead of going to school. The upper classes view education as unnecessary
because they are likely to become businessmen and any education would simply give them a
handicap. The professor himself agrees that his position is unnecessary. Without education there is
no way to teach others. There is no way to better our knowledge and understanding of the world
around us.

Essay on Fine Arts Education Issues
Fine Arts Education Issues
According to the National Art Education Association s goals for schools, all elementary schools
shall require students to complete a sequential program of art instruction that integrates the study of
art production, aesthetics, art criticism, and art history, (Clark, 1987). Elementary schools are having
difficulty because they are cutting back on the fine arts programming and many non specialist
classroom teachers are expected to integrate the fine arts into their daily curriculum. Most of these
teachers feel inadequate and uncomfortable when teaching these subjects. The children are
receiving inadequate lessons in art education. All elementary schools should expand their curriculum
to include the fine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Will teachers have the money...more often than not, the answer is no, (Reardon, 1995). When
budget cuts are underway in school systems, the allotted amount of money for fine arts education
is the first to be reduced. Fine arts education should be considered a core subject in elementary
schools. All budgeting should be done so that all core areas receive an equal amount of money.
Because the fine arts are given a lower status than the traditional core subjects, schools fail to hire
licensed arts specialists. Schools then burden their classroom teachers by implementing poor
quality arts programs into their daily routines to fulfill certain art expectations. This not only
discourages and takes time away from classroom teachers, but also misrepresents the fine arts.
Even when a fine arts specialist is hired, they often are pushed into trying to teach other areas of
art than what they were hired for. In some cases, the requirements for becoming an arts specialist
are so relaxed that many communities don t believe that the fine arts should be taken very
seriously. Luckily, national reports are pushing for higher standards to become a fine arts specialist.
Impact on Students
It has been argued that the arts promote skills and abilities such as problem solving, teamwork, goal

Knighthood and Courtly Love in the Time of King Arthur Essay
Chivalry was considered to be the code of behavior expected of a knight. It was the conduct,
ideas, and ideals of the knightly class of the Middle Ages. It became standardized and referred to
as chivalry, a term derived from the French word chevalier, meaning knight. The code urged the
knight to be brave, courageous, honorable, true to his word, and loyal to his feudal overlord, and to
defend his Church. A knight was truthful, honest, capable, educated, physically fit, noble, sincere,
and subservient to the king. A seriousviolation of these vows could result in a knight being classed
as an undignified knight, which was the ultimate insult because of all the hard workthat was put
into becoming a knight. It made it seem as if all of work... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Perceval remains a very impressionable young boy and his mother teaches him loyalty. For that,
Perceval loves him mother dearly. Perceval may not have been the most sophisticated man around,
however, when he did know how to do something he did it exceedingly well. He could not forget
his love for his God though. God was a huge factor for knights and their beliefs. Perceval, the story
relates, had lost his memory so totally that he no longer remembered God. (Story of the Grail,
457) Once Perceval found his way back to God, he was seen as the better knight because of his love
for Him. Ultimately, Perceval is the one who is graced with being able to see the grail because he
was such a simple, hardworking fellow. He did not abuse his strengths or downplay his weaknesses.
The other side of this story revolves around Gawain, a knight and a stickler for the rules. He was
a very knowledgeable knight; he knew much about courtly love and was the complete opposite
of young Perceval. Gawain was a big, strong knight who was very loyal to King Arthur and
served as one of his advisors. Even though Gawain was commendable, his lacked the spirituality
that Perceval possessed. This made a big difference in who saw the grail and who didn t. One had
to be loyal to the king, the queen and God. Because Gawain wasn t loyal to God and too caught up

Rhode Island s Public Policy Guidelines Essay
Abstract
Rhode Islands Future has been established to resolve Rhode Island s need to address the issues of a
failing elementary and secondary education system. Currently, Rhode Island students are being
outperformed by Massachusetts students on national tests. Although Rhode Island and
Massachusetts spend about the same on public education per student. Differences are identified in
the management of the schools and the degree of state influence. The main issues focused in this
research will be on examining and determining if Rhode Island should adopt more of the
management and governance models that Massachusetts uses, which could open the door for
empowered schools in Rhode Island. Proposed public policy guidelines, best practices, evaluations
on potential educational funding, cost benefit analysis, and risks will be analyzed. Finally, this
report will look into what possible recommendations could be made from the outcome of this
research.
Introduction
Focusing on Rhode Island s future, which encompasses the education of our youth is a continuing
topic of discussion. However, it is emphasized when neighboring states are outperforming Rhode
Island s public school children. Complicating the issue is the performance of Rhode Island public
school children fall near or even slightly below the national average on several standardized tests.

The Tipping Point
To promote a new breakfast cereal in an already crowded market is not an easy thing to do;
especially if the one who is trying to promote a new cereal wants to make a huge success on that
project, it might be able to a very serious problem. However, if the one follow and correctly apply
what Malcom Gladwell, the author of The Tipping Point, says in his book, it will definitely
increases the possibility of success. There are three factors that help to make a huge success on
their cereal promotion. The first is that the law of few, which is about connectors, mavens, and
Salesmen. Second, stickiness, which is about examples of Sesame Street, Blue s Clues, and
Educational Virus. Third, the power of context, which is about examples of Bernie Goetz and the
magic number one hundred and fifty. Firstly, the law of few refers to the number of people who

significantly important for seller. When customers buy something which is not on the shopping list,
the decision might seems like that it is completely depends on one s thought, but it is not. The

Health Insurance Essay
The main function for health care financing is to pay for health insurance premium and reimburse
health providers for services delivered. Still, there is a crucial challenge when creating health
insurance plans, provide coverage for health care needs without encouraging unnecessary spending.
(Maas) Over time, health care financing has been evolving, and now consumers can acquire health
insurancethrough government programs like Medicare, which it is for the elderly, for certain
individuals with disabilities and end stage renal disease. Therefore, any person who meets the
requirements can enroll to this program. Also, there is Medicaid, which it is the program for the
poor, and Children s Health Insurance Program best known as CHIP, which insure kids who come
from low income families. Nonetheless, there are several types of private insurance like self

Chemotherapy Cycle
Most chemotherapy drugs are given as a course of up to ten sessions (cycles) of treatment. This will
depend on the type of drug you are having. At each treatment session you will be given the
chemotherapy drug through a drip (infusion). This involves running a liquid containing the drug
through a fine tube (cannula) into a vein in your arm. This allows the drug to enter the bloodstream
and travel throughout the body.
You will have treatment every three or four weeks. A treatment of docetaxel takes about one hour
(this may differ from other chemotherapy drugs). If your blood count is not high enough to cope
with a cycle of treatment your doctor may decide to reduce your dose of chemotherapy or delay the
cycle. Once your blood count returns to normal you can continue with ... Show more content on

It is perfectly safe to be around other people, including children and pregnant women, when you
are having chemotherapy, but you will need to try to avoid contact with people who have
infections. This is because your ability to fight infections (your immunity) is not as strong as usual
during each chemotherapy cycle. You are most at risk between seven and 14 days after your
treatment. Some men choose to avoid very crowded areas during this time to help reduce the risk of
getting an infection.
If at any time, you think that you may have a fever or infection it is important to contact the
hospital immediately for advice. You can call any time of the day or night and should not wait to
see if you feel better. It may be useful to have a thermometer at home to check your temperature. If

logical thinking and also irrational thinking through ways such as fantasy and play. Creativity is
ideally not a requirement in problem solving but creative production is a situation that needs
problem solving. Individuals who are creative are able to solve problems in a more innovative,
appropriate manner and high quality. Art activities help children face technical, interpersonal and
contextual problems, following critical thinking skills the children can make choices among a
variety of possible solutions (Pitri, E. 2013). Children who solve problems using creative thinking
skills to solve problems are usually focused on the task and they continuously define new problems
and can ask questions out loud. Problem solving skills and reasoning create a foundation for the
learning of a lifetime. Reasoning, making inferences, implementing decisions and analysing

  • 2. Early Marriage Of Girls Negatively Affects Health... Early marriage: Early marriage of girls negatively affects health wellbeing among young women. In Sub Saharan Africa, spiritual appeasement is among key reasons attributed to early marriage. In fact, girls /young women are usually sacrificed to the ancestral spirit world (Sithole, 2007). (40) Mbiti (1999) and Bediako (1997) explain that in African faith practice, females are generally viewed as having a higher connectivity to the spirit world than males. For this reason, female children are the preferred spiritual sacrifices because of their biological ability to reproduce children that will promote generational continuity to the ancestral spirits. This notion may explain why a girl child, and not a boy, is traditionally the choice for appeasing the spirits. Whether the motive to encourage early marriage is cultural or spiritual or anywhere in between, it remains a fact that the practice contributes to reduced health status for women as their bodies are oftren not physiologically ready for childbearing leading to complications at child birth. A report on child and early marriage showed that 38% of young women were married before reaching the age of 18, which make them more likely to stop their education, become more vulnerable to physical and sexual abuse, to death during pregnancy and delivery, to delivering unhealthy children, and would most certainly remain caged in poverty. • 5. TJX Data Breach Analysis One of the first data breaches that personally affected me was the TJX data breach that happened in 2005 2006. At the time I was both an employee and shopper for the brand. The breach happened due to using a weak Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) protocol instead of the stronger Wi Fi Protected Access (WAP) protocol , not being up to date on PCI (payment card industry) compliance, and overall behind in securitycontrols (Patrizio, 2007). TJX also did not have the technology in place to flag and monitor suspicious activity. This breach resulted in over 45 million credit and debit cards being compromised (Vijayan, 2007). Another breach that I am familiar with due to being a customer is the Target breach in 2013. This breach was similar with TJX ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This breach trumped both the TJX and Target numbers combined! It affected up to 143 million Americans (Yurieff, 2017). This breach was slightly different as it exposed not only credit card information, but also sensitive information, such as social security numbers, addresses, birth dates, and driver license numbers (Yurieff, 2017). According to the article in CNN News (Yurieff, 2017), Equifax said criminals exploited a U.S. website application vulnerability to gain access to certain files. As stated above, all examples share in one of the types of information compromised, which was credit card information. All three had vulnerabilities in I.T. security, TJX and Equifax with not having the necessary controls in place and Target in not have the proper people in place making decisions and/or incident reporting guidelines. Many lessons can be learned from these breaches. First of all, the foundations of security need to be in place and reviewed very often to keep relevant in today s ever changing electronic world. Secondly, the people in charge need to understand the importance of their position and should be held accountable for any personal liabilities they may cause for the company through improper or inadequate performance or reporting. Another lesson is that the cost of prevention is worth so much more than the costs of dealing with the consequences. Each one of these examples have resulted in huge ... • 6. Feudalism And The Code Of Chivalry The act of Feudalism and The Code of Chivalry both arose sometime during the medieval time period. Feudalism was said to be based on the exchange of land for military service ( Feudalism ). This meant the King would reward those who were loyal to him and fought during battle with land. Life lived under the Medieval Feudal System, or Feudalism, demanded that everyone owed allegiance to the King and their immediate superior ( Feudalism ). This lead to the creation of The Feudalism Pyramid, which changed England s society. The Feudalism Pyramid segregated and ranked individuals based on the amount of power one obtained. • 7. Comparing Doyle And Atwood Doyle and Atwood use an effective combination of short, snappy sentences along with longer, breathless sentences in their prose in order to keep the audience interested and involved in the reading. In Brian Doyle s Joyas Volardores I was intrigued how he made an animal as small as a hummingbird seem like such a marvelous creature leaving me with a sense of awe after reading the first paragraph. He gives a very vivid description of the birds in the second paragraph; so vivid I felt that he was exaggerating to a certain extent. I was surprised to find that as I continued reading Doyle started to discreetly add a human element to the story. Although he was talking about birds and whales, Doyle intentionally uses the word you three times ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Bonds Of Family In Arcite And Palamon In A Knight s Tale Brothers, cousins, and family turn to enemies quickly over the small matters in life. Geoffrey Chaucer s A Knight s Tale took two cousins with a bond stronger than life, death, and misery, and tore it apart like cotton candy over a worthless love. Arcite and Palamon (our main characters) were prisoners of war of the great Theseus. They claimed to make oaths to one another, and that they would be loyal to each other until death. These claims were nothing, but words. In the first real test of their kinship, their bond withered without a second thought. Oaths of loyalty and the bonds of familywere virtually unbreakable in these times, or were they? Obviously these warriors cared little for the brotherly connections they shared as they let coincidence and chance dictate their loyalty to one another. They were painted as noble and honorable men, but they were mainly prideful, ignorant, and selfish. By the end of the tale, Arcite himself hardly even knew his true intentions anymore. Palamon and Arcites conflict developed exponentially, which brought to light how true their loyalties really were. From the beginning, their loyalty to each other never seemed to have a rock solid foundation. Despite this Arcite and Palamon were depicted as very close and very loyal to one another in the story. Nevertheless I disagree with this notion that they were ever truly close, because of how quickly their relationship deteriorated. When the two had found Emily they had already been ... • 9. Christ Birth Research Paper Christmas is arguably the biggest holiday in the western world. It is the holiday that brings forth the spirt of joy, giving s and love. Christmas is also the year that brings forth remembrance of Jesus Christ s birth. However, the nativity story, the story of Christ birth, has much more meaning to it then what people reflect on it as. When the Nativity story is told it seems the main focus or the happy ending is always the savior birth. That arguably is not what the Bible fully attended the focus to remain on. The Nativity story is more than just a story about Christbirth; it is a metaphor that paints the picture of the two people s faith in God and ultimately the gospel in a nutshell. Many overlook Mary and Joseph struggle during the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mary knew that Joseph would most likely leave her due to her mysteries pregnancy and a tarnished reputation. Although, those things are very important factors to look at when considering the risk Mary took, when she accepted to birth the Messiah, the most significate risk Mary had taken was the endangerment of her own life. According to the Old Testament law, if a women failed to remain physically pure before marriage she would be brought to the door of her father s house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die: because she hath wrought folly in Israel, to play the whore in her father s house: so shalt thou put evil away from among you. And if the women was betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her; Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die. Again, Mary knew the challenges she had to face. She had nothing but a story of an angel to give to Joseph and the towns people. The possibility of Joseph and the towns people believing that Mary, a poor servant, miraculously became pregnant by the Holy Spirit is as slim as it would be now. In fact, most would conclude that Mary was covering up an immoral relationship with Roman soldier. Yet, Mary kept the same attitude that her son had in Gethsemane when He prayed, not my will, but thine, be done. Regardless, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Crime, As A Phenomenon, Tends To Vary In Prevalence By Crime, as a phenomenon, tends to vary in prevalence by location. Some scholars state that a city does not develop randomly, but grows according to basic social processes such as invasion, dominance and accommodation (Robert E. Park, 1925) which then establishes a moral order . social ecosystems behold and develop unique values meaning the sanctity of aspects such as family, environment, materials, and culture in certain geographical spaces may be more susceptible to crime than other spaces. In Australia, the two biggest factors that influence the rate of crime seem to be population density and economic disparity. This, along with acclaimed criminological theory such as crime pattern theory and routine activity theory provides an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From January 2016 to January 2017, Fremantle experienced 383 assaults, North Bridge with 420, and Perth with 834. Although the scene of the nightlife in itself may have some contribution to criminal activity, it is typically the socialisation between large, dense groups of people that encourage potentially dangerous factors like drug and alcohol abuse.

However, with non violent crimes, some researchers found that property crime is more prevalent in regions containing smaller cities and towns rather than large cities (AndrГ© Michel Guerry, 1830). Overall, Guerry end up concluding that associating crime as a direct correlation to population density is rather an oversimplification of crime as a phenomenon, ignoring a variety of factors which regularly (but not all the time) accompany population density. Guerry s conclusion still holds strong relevance in contemporary arguments; especially in Australia. The state governments of New South Wales and Victoria predicate their arguments for more funding from the Australian Grants Commission on the fact that their cities are larger and more densely populated thus producing a more crime producing environment which justifies more funding. However, this justification is opposed by surveys and police data that express WA and SA having experienced higher crime rates than NSW and Victoria, and their cities having at minimum similar rates with the two ... Tough is writingspecifically regarding Texas A M because through David Laude and David Yeager s Tip program they are having stunning success in evening out the playing field for less advantaged students. Another example of this is when Tough introduces Laude and Yeager, Tough uses them as transitional points in the text, but also he uses their work as potential solutions to the problem he is presenting. This style of transition would be fine if executed correctly. However, the way in which Tough organized these transitions pulls the reader back and forth between different subjects, at times losing the focus of the article, and making it easy for the reader to get lost within the text. Another problem readers may face is the style of Tough s writing, mainly due to his tendency to ramble, and his disposition for redundancy. [example] Tough did a great job at supporting his argument with the statistics he presented. However, often times the statistics but this unnecessary information took away the conciseness of the article, and causes his main points to have less of an impact then they could have. One potential area that could pose big problems for someone reading this is overall length of this article. Length is not generally an issue because readers tend to develop their own strategies when dealing with a long read, either by reading in chunks, or reading it all in one go, readers still have the capacity to finish what they are assigned. • 13. Women and Sports Essay Women and Sports As it becomes increasingly acceptable for women to be athletic in American culture, a new question arises: in which sports should women be allowed to participate? From a physiological standpoint, it has been scientifically proven that female bodies do not differ significantly enough from male bodies to prevent them from participation in any male sports. This division between male and female sports clearly stems from age old, socially constructed norms of femininity and masculinity. When women attempt to challenge these societal molds by participating in sports that are traditionally male, the intricate web of norms is disrupted. Like many other instances where traditional social constructions are tinkered with, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Women are expected to be more passive than their male counterparts. When a woman participates in sport, she challenges many aspects of the gender role that has been defined for her. First, she is taking time away from her family to do an activity that is outside the home. Second, in sport, she is behaving in a more aggressive and competitive manner, which contradicts the meek feminine mold to which she is supposed to adhere. Furthermore, when women compete in public, suddenly the lines begin to blur. Men no longer have the monopoly over the role of universal breadwinner. Challenging these socially constructed lines works as a catalyst for social change. All women athletes, both in traditional and non traditional sports, play a pivotal role in instigating this change. Female bodies were traditionally expected to be small, slender, soft, and pretty, while male bodies were supposed to be muscular, large, solid, and handsome. Sports such as gymnastics and figure skating allow and almost require that women maintain such feminine physical qualities. Athletes competing in sports such as power lifting and rowing are encouraged to increase muscle mass at a rapid rate thereby acquiring a physical stature that society deems masculine. Furthermore, while technique is essential to these sports, there is a significant emphasis on brute strength. Brute strength contradicts the passive femininity that is expected of women. Don t Waste Time With Time Management Don t Waste Time With Time Management By Laura Ashley Timms Nov 24, 2011 We ve all heard of the concept of Time Management, but how many of us would claim that we have really mastered it? How do you succeed at managing your time? There is more to it than simply having and following a schedule, as anybody who has tried this approach knows. Trying to organise what you already do in a day to fit into a smaller space of time will not be possible simply because you type it up and print it out as an itinerary or write it down in a planner. For this reason we talk instead about Time Leverage, a more practical approach to making sure that your time is being used as effectively as possible. Time is a restricted resource. Some companies may have bigger start up funds or a better network of potential clients, but everybody is gifted the same amount of time in a day. Planning how to use the time you are given should not be a matter of working through a to do list as fast as you possibly can. Whilst this may make you super efficient, it may not be moving you towards your goals. For instance, you may be incredibly organised in checking your mail and emails daily, with a small or empty inbox, but if you never find a moment to email or call a potential new client or an important contact, you simply remain static, performing tasks which will not move you closer to your or your organisation s goals. Be effective, not just efficient. You will hopefully, as a business owner, already ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The purpose of this type of system is to maintain a constant fluid flow. In order to maintain this fluid flow the tanks have to preserve a certain liquid level, this necessary level depends on the other variables. My system will consist of: an inflow valve, the tanks, valves to go between the tanks, and an outflow valve. I want to do this experiment because about two years ago, when I was in the seventh grade, I did a science fair experiment where I tested how changing the variables in a mass spring damper system affected system response. A lot of points were made by Dr. Cohan to help her audience understand obesity and body image in relation to the sociology view of things. For most of us, our body is very private. It s something that we cherish and respect and take care of. It is our home and our responsibility is to take care for it. But like Dr. Cohan pointed out, as private as our body is to us it is actually a public issue that relates to social structure. She states that the body is socially and culturally constructed. I can agree with this statement. Society and different cultural aspects definitely influence and determine the decisions we make in regards to our body and body image. I found it interesting in knowing the different ways a body could be viewed, in terms of how it can be percieved, valued, and treated. The way Milian King suggested that the body becomes a sight for asserting, imposing, performing, challenging, and destabilizing categories of gender, race ethnicity, and sexuality. The Mission Of Carbon Offsets Our Mission The mission of Carbon Offsets To Alleviate Poverty (COTAP) is to empower individuals and organizations in developed countries to address both climate change and global poverty. COTAP counteracts your carbon emissions through certified forestry projects in least developed regions which create transparent, accountable, and life changing earnings for rural farming communities where income levels are less than $2 per day. The Problem In developing regions around the world, hundreds of millions of people live in rural areas on less than $2 per day. This level of poverty forces communities to make hard choices between food, health care, and education. It is the poverty level where an estimated 11 million children die every year. Many of these communities are not fits for traditional microfinance, which tends to be primarily urban, and significant portions of their land are not suitable for agriculture. While there are many promising technical innovations and development programs which can increase crop yields, there remains a geographic limitation on markets where such increased yields can be sold. The result is that there are farming communities all over the world who could be made much less economically vulnerable if there were a way to generate significant supplemental income from non crop land usage which did not rely on physical distribution. I learned that most of my stressors were chronic; mainly dealing with school and socializing. The stressors were categorized as mental and spiritual, although I did notice missing family and friends could fall under spiritual and emotional. Another thing I learned was most of my stressors were caused from my move to Bismarck. For example, living far from home, new job, and not having close friendships. The 14th century also contained a mass of literary movements, often times coexisting with the aforementioned factors. Historical Events and Context Peasants Revolt The Peasants Revolt was an aftermath of the Black Death, which also greatly influenced literature and arts throughout its course. The Peasants Revolt year 1381 significantly altered literature during the course of the 14th century. The Peasants Revolt was unique in its significance because what is considered modern day England was the only medieval society to have a peasants revolt (Swain). Naturally, such a huge uprising brings influence with it. Besides the Bubonic Plague, another reason for the Peasants Revolt occurred due an expanding middle class, which then in turn took land away from Nobles. This land crisis caused the Nobility to have an upset, and they enacted a law to stop the Peasant Class from having social mobility. Like most societal uprising, money was a huge factor. Introduction It has been argued that Karl Marx theory of alienation has lost relevance in contemporary society when understanding the relationship of the individual worker in a capitalist society. It is this statement being proposed by several sociologists who believe alienation being an empty statement in relation to contemporary society. However like many other sociological concepts this one is still contested which is why I will explore the theory of alienation and what effect it has on contemporary society, and argue that Marx s theory of alienation still applies to the process of the owners of production exploiting the working classes. I will start by looking into the four different dimensions of alienation and how these relate to Marx s critique of capitalist society, then relating this concept to modern society. the four dimensions of alienation Alienation as a definition was initially conflicted as it has very different meanings such as the English definition defines alienation as to turn away the feelings of someone or to transfer an individual s property Affine, Y. However it is a sign of rebellion, through its simple and yet peculiar nature, in the eyes of The Party; it contradicts the idea that everything and everyone must be useful. One can come to a consensus that the coral and the glass dome represent Winston and the upper room or party, respectively. This is due to the fact that the glass and or room encases the coral or in this case Winston, or so he thinks. One is also aware that the paperweight reveals a part of the past, which sparks Winston s curiosity to what the hope for freedom really meant in the past this is a form of rebellion as the idea of freedom from Oceana is forbidden by the party. However, Orwell argues that the seemingly positive significance of the paperweight will be at a state of compromise through the use of sense perception, the remembrance of the past, and the destruction of the paperweight. Because the paperweight is a representation of Julia and Winston in the secrecy of the room, it reveals an inaccurate psychological form of the truth. By referring to terms such as light (Orwell, p.130) gazes (Orwell, p.130) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was a hope that through the grammatical rule of the target language the student would know more about the grammatical rules of their native language and then, it would help them to speak and write in their native language better. Maistre In Canterbury Tales The lack of literacy and the church s tremendous power during the Middle Ages resulted in a chain of being ; the order was established by the church and only emphasized the patriarchal society of the time. During the late fourteenth century, Chaucer wrote The Canterbury Tales, a collection of individual stories that included The Wifeof Bath. The last stanza of The Wife of Bath s Prologue culminates the Wife s argument that the concept of maistre should rest in the hands of the female partner in order to balance the unequal footing created by the chain of being. The concept of maistre is defined as the sovereignty in a marriage, that is, whichever partner has the maistre has the power in a union. The passage takes place after the confrontation between the Wife of Bath and her fifth husband, Janekin. After such a brutal physical fight, they reconcile at last with muchel care and wo (817). Chaucer s use of the word care characterizes the actions of the two as timid and tender; the two tip toe around the other. The Wife loves Janekin so much that she appointed him maister of my body and of my good, (320) which granted him full maistre. Janekin reinforced his power over his wife by refraining from satisfying her sexual desires. After suffering through Janekin s control, He yaf me al the bridel in myn hand, (819) the Wife receives the metaphorical reins of their marriage back. Through his narration, we learn about a man whose real man is James Gatz, but he goes by the name Jay Gatsby. He continuously calls people old sport. • 41. Italian Baroque And The Protestant Baroque Styles The Baroque era spans a period of 150 years. During this time, baroque art had four distinct styles. I plan to focus on the Italian Baroque and the Protestant Baroque styles. While these styles share some similarities, they are also very different. The Italian Baroque style is often ornate and focused on religion with an emphasis on the need for the church s guidance. The Protestant Baroquestyle is plain with no obvious religious messages and less need for guidance from the church. Both styles contain many amazing pieces of artwork, but I plan to focus on Bernini s Baldacchino and Vermeer s Woman Holding a Balance. The Italian Baroque style of art was established by the Catholic Church to bring individuals focus back to the church. This is also known as Counter Reformation. The artwork was often very elaborate, large in scale, showed movement and contained religious objects that glorified the Catholic Church (Armstrong). Another trademark of this time was the ability of the artwork to evoke emotions (Hollander). It was their attempt to show people they must lean on the church to be successful. If there is one piece of art that displays all of these characteristics perfectly, it is the Baldacchino by Bernini. This is a magnificent piece that one could stare at for hours and probably not take in all of the details. The scale of the Baldacchino is enormous. • 43. Herzberg s Theory Of Employee Retention Employee retention refers to the ability of an organization to retain its employees. Employee retention can be represented by a simple statistic (for example, a retention rate of 80% usually indicates that an organization kept 80% of its employees in a given period). However, many consider employee retention as relating to the efforts by which employers attempt to retain employees in their workforce. In this sense, retention becomes the strategies rather than the outcome. A distinction should be drawn between low performing employees and top performers, and efforts to retain employees should be targeted at valuable, contributing employees. Employee turnover is a symptom of deeper issues that have not been resolved, which may include low employee morale, absence of a clear career path, lack of recognition, poor employee manager relationships or many other issues. Herzberg s system of needs is segmented into motivators and hygiene factors. Like Maslow s Hierarchy, motivators are often unexpected bonuses that foster the desire to excel. Guns Are Used For Self Defense Guns are used for Self Defense less than 1% of the time Looking at data from 1992 through 2005 and 2007 through 2011, there were over 192 million violent crimes committed in the United States during this 17 year period. Of those crimes, the victims chose to use a gun as a self defensive measure to threaten or attack their offender over 1.3 million times. Over this 17 year time period, a gun was used as a form of self defense to threaten or attack an offender 0.7% of the time. Of those 0.7% that used a gun, 0.3% resulted in a justifiable homicide of the offender. The idea of using a gun for self defense is a pervasive one. The often cited number is that Americans use a gun as a defensive or self protection measure 2.2 to 2.5 million times per year (Kleck and Gertz, 1995). However, this number and other high estimates have been scrutinized for their validity. The Cato Institute s report Tough Targets (Cramer and Burnett, 2012), a pro gun study, even acknowledges that some studies exaggerate the use of guns to the point of statistical impossibility. They also mention underreporting, including the datasets used to produce the numbers you see here (their study produces no numerical rates of gun use for self defense). If the 2.5 million number were true, that would mean close to 1 in 4 people would have actively used a gun for a self defense. Does that seem plausible? The Characteristics Of Max Weber s Bureaucracy Merriam Webster Dictionary (online) defines Bureaucracy as a government characterized by specialization of functions, adherence to fixed rules, and a hierarchy of authority and a system of administration marked by officialism, red tape, and proliferation . It also implies administration by bureau, which is an administrative unit in an organizational setup and mechanism to realize rationally ordered social action. It comprises non elected officials, be it a public or private sector organization, is often viewed as an apparatus or entity that rationalizes power, authority and decision making in a society. Max Weber, a German sociologist and economist, conceived the Bureaucratic Management Theory and believed it to be more rational and efficient. According to Weber (1946), there exists a trichotomy of power: traditional, charismatic and rational legal or bureaucratic. Weber believes the bureaucratic type of power to be the ideal one. Max Weber s illustrious and influential work on bureaucracywas a substantial contribution to the discipline of public administration. He presumes bureaucracy to be an efficient and rational organizational structure. Brian R. Fry (1989) considers Weber s bureaucracy to be rational one the basis of it being well conversant with rules and procedures, and possessing the specialized knowledge of the bureaucratic domain. The professor views businessmen as egotistical, self centered individuals who abandon their morals in order to do what is necessary to benefit themselves. Education is seen as the opposite, a place for gentlemen. As a result, if someone wanted to be a good businessman he should not get an education because education would make him more moral and therefore less of a businessman. When budget cuts are underway in school systems, the allotted amount of money for fine arts education is the first to be reduced. Fine arts education should be considered a core subject in elementary schools. All budgeting should be done so that all core areas receive an equal amount of money. Because the fine arts are given a lower status than the traditional core subjects, schools fail to hire licensed arts specialists. Schools then burden their classroom teachers by implementing poor quality arts programs into their daily routines to fulfill certain art expectations. This not only discourages and takes time away from classroom teachers, but also misrepresents the fine arts. Even when a fine arts specialist is hired, they often are pushed into trying to teach other areas of art than what they were hired for.
