Film The Piano Essay
Film The Piano
In the film The Piano , it displays varieties of themes like love, loyalty, betrayal and etc. Beneath
each theme lie the values which were shown throughout the film. It was about a woman who doesn
t speak since the age of six and her relationship with her daughter and her piano. Because of her
actions, it had affected some of the characters in the film.
Love and loyalty was also shown in the film. Stewart loved Ada but never did he know that Ada
would actually be in loyal to him. He was too angry that he chopped off Ada s finger. This scene
was over exaggerated. Though Ada was in the wrong for having an affair with George, he should
have confronted her instead of chopping off ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Ada asked her to bring a piano key to George, she refused because Stewart had trusted
them to be at home. Ada got angry and forced her to go. She went reluctantly. On her way, she
changed route. Instead of going to George s house, she went to find Stewart. She had not thought
of the consequences. She thought of being honest with her father. She did not realize that she had
betrayed her mother. It was the same for Ada too. She wanted to be honest of her feelings for
George but because of her honesty she betrayed Stewart by having an affair with George.
The scenes were a mixture of the 19th century and 20th century values. The way they had dressed
themselves were liked the 19th century. Ada committed adultery, which didn t match the 19th
century values. It seldom happened during that time. In the 19th century, the women had no say
in anything and were only allowed to stay at home. Women had to obey the men. But in this
case, this wasn t true. The woman who was always with the maids weren t like one. She could
talk to Stewart like a man talking to him. She didn t look like she was scared of him. Instead, she
was always giving advice to him. The sound made by the piano didn t match those shown in the
film. It sounded more like a grand piano.
From the way they had made the film, it had

Persuasive Essay On Black Hate
In the same way, the Spelman College administration, faculty, and students that disregard the West
End community that surrounds the college only contribute to the erosion of our community and
our people. Although this is not a language of hate, it is a clear display of indifference which
communicates the same thing. Choosing to disregard the homeless, pay little attention to the
gentrification that is rampantly kicking our people out of our community, or ignore ways to provide
opportunities or exposure to the high school students in our own back yard; are we truly
activating black love as political resistance or are we ignoring the needs of the people that are
around us every day? We need to realize that there are two vehicles that drive the future of the
black community: one of black love and one of black hate. Realize that, although society drives
black hate we can be passengers in that car. We can disagree and reject their ideology, all the
while internalizing it. Even though we are not driving, our inability to articulate black love as
fluently as we articulate black hate, allows black hate to trump black love. Therefore, in our lives,
in our homes, in our communities, and on our HBCU campuses the darkness and degradation of
blackness thrives by separating us from our own people and making it seem normal to demean
ourselves, our race, and our people. Is this behavior not subtly mimicking those of the oppressor?
Although some our actions contradict our feelings toward

How Does Narayan Present Women In The Ramayana
In the chapter The Wedding from Narayan s The Ramayana, the portrayal of men and women in
ancient India show how both men and women have emotional distresses, but their reactions to this
distress are different, showing how men and women are supposed to follow masculinity or
femininity. Sita s exaggerated plight, Ramas muted distress, and the emotional distress of the men
of Mithila when they cannot marry Sita, shows different ways that the story portrays men and
women through love, and how The Ramayanadefines how men and woman act. When Sita and

that Rama has changed her life by merely appearing before her. Sita felt extremely affected both
physically and mentally by Rama s appearance. The Ramayana s portrayal of Sita shows that
women are more vulnerable and convey their emotions on a much larger level than men.
Nayaran is portraying women as foolish or disturbed when exposed to love. Rama makes his

Socioeconomic Effects of Coffee Trade on the Ethiopian Farmer
Socioeconomic effects on farmers in a volatile Ethiopian coffee market and the promise of the Fair
Trade movement
Coffee and Ethiopia have shared a lengthy and highly tumultuous relationship. According to some,
their history dates back to the fifteenth century, but it is widely acknowledged that extensive trade
didn t begin until the late eighteenth century (Aregay 1988, 19). As world coffee consumption
skyrocketed in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, Ethiopia s economy grew increasingly
dependent on the industry. By the mid 1970 s, it s estimated that coffee accounted for a staggering
55% of all Ethiopian exports. This figure has since declined, and today it s estimated to be
somewhere around 35% (Daviron, Ponte 2005, 61 62). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This year he expects aound $60 for the coffee (Gresser, Tickell 2002, 42). Yet again, we are
faced with the unavoidable question: if the farmer is not making any money, the millers aren t
making any money and the exporters are not making any money, who is? To answer this, we
must look to the roasters and retailers: a group of five corporate giants who purchase over fifty
percent of the market s green coffee beans (Gresser, Tickell 2002, 27 28). Certain analysts have
estimated that Nestle earns up to 26% profit on all instant coffee sales (Luttinger, Dicum 2011,
131). The great disparity is made possible by the massive amounts of power these companies
possess. Though public perception of the companies has begun a move toward skepticism, it is
still largely positive. Corporations work to enormous lengths to ensure brand loyalty. For
example, instant coffee companies in the UK spent over $68 million on advertising in 1999.
Because they re aware that the public might not agree with their business practices, they work
relentlessly to ensure that we don t learn too much. Nestle is known for releasing intentionally
complex business records that often pool all of their beverage profits, which includes many non
coffee products, into one (Luttinger, Dicum 2011, 118). The end result is a farmer who can t
provide for his family after working day and night to produce a substantial crop. Not only does this

Alcohol Television Commercials are Misleading Viewers Essay
Alcohol Television Commercials are Misleading Viewers
At any given time a person can turn on their television and find a commercial of some sort. Their
main purpose is for them to throw information about their product to anyone who will listen. It is
also common for this form of advertisement to be promoting an alcoholic beverage. Whether it s a
catchy song with the chorus chanting This Bud s for you! or three frogs belching Bud Wei Ser! ,
viewers learn the slogans and use them in their own lives. Needless to say, alcohol companies have
mastered the art of grabbing the attention of their audience by imbedding their images and words
through commercial advertising. Although clever, these advertisements can be misleading ... Show

Usually there is very little about the actual product at all and few statements about the specific
characteristics of the brand. They do provide, however, information on where the product can be
found and an exaggeration of its effects on the audience s lives. Additionally, the more highly
valued the image, the more persuasive the ad is expected to be (Covell, 1992, p.3), and since our
culture encourages alcohol consumption in order to have a good time, alcohol commercials play off
that information as much as they can. For example, children look up to their parents and stereotype
them positively, and since alcohol is considered an adult activity, they also tend to stereotype
alcoholic consumption positively. Along with the association of alcohol and adulthood,
advertisements are to blame for the misleading assumptions that drinking is also associated with
athleticism, strength, beauty, fun, and sophistication. This most definitely leads to premature
drinking because adolescents are always striving for these values.
If people are constantly exposed to alcohol commercials, then why is it that we don t warn the
audience about their misleading advertising? In the article, Effects

1.Let s say you are a senior decision maker in a large computer design, manufacturing and sales
company. How do the three convergences affect you? (1 2 page response, single space) Besides
the ten flatteners that Friedman discusses in the book, he also talks about the convergences that
create a flatter world. The first convergence deals with engaging people from around the globe
and being able to communicate. More likely than not, my computer parts and chips would be
manufactured in China, were I can collaborate with engineers designing custom parts. When a
design change is needed I could send email and use video chat to have meetings to discuss what
changes my company would need. Being able to email and chat in real time would increase
efficiency in my product design. Without this ability to outsource and possibly hire a Chinese
engineer to help translate material, my design team may not be as robust. I could have a sales
center based in India that I could direct all my sales information and technical support where more
engineers and services sector people could perform the tasks needed therein reducing the cost of

Freidman describes as horizontalization, the shift from a vertical chain of command to a horizontal
chain of command for value creation (Freidman, 2007). Collaboration among various groups or
departments allows for innovation to occur freely. If the manufacturing

True Equality for Women at the Workplace
People are judged by their gender, which often, in many situations, lead to bias decisions and
unfairness within business organizations for women. Women are often not held up to the standard
of a man in the business workforce, which leaves them with fewer position choices outside the
norm. Most jobs that womenhave are not demanding upon the body and require little to no strength.
The failure to understand adaptation by the government has caused many reforms in the past, but
there are still many flaws in the hiring system that often leave women asking questions and puzzled
by the bias decisions of men in charge of the management of positions. The fight for equality

A Long Way Gone Freedom Analysis
Since the beginning of A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah, the protagonist of the novel Ishmael
endeavors to flee from the hardships enkindled by the RUF rebel organization that has
amalgamated the country of Sierra Leone, officially making it a war zone. Moreover, for more
than two years Ishmael has attempted to escape from the rebels, moving from village to village,
rummaging through abandoned homes. Seemingly, the rebels would make their way to
Ishmael, sweeping all villages. Deprived of food or any sign of hope surviving as a lone wolf ,
Ishmael enlisted in the Army of Sierra Leone to fight against the radical organization. Ishmael
risked his life for the prime purpose of surviving and to pursue freedom. Furthermore, self
determination was one of the reasons for such bravery, but it was also due to specific objects that
aided in Ishmael s journey for freedom. Nonetheless, in his literary work, A Long Way Gone:
Memoirs of a Boy Soldier, Ishmael Beah uses symbols to underscore his central theme of
oppression and/or freedom. The most evident symbols that accentuate the theme of oppression and
/or freedom are the moon, the rap cassette tape, and the AK 47.
The moon s role in Ishmael s journey is very prominent, as it exhibits the theme of freedom also
oppression in the novel. When Ishmael is in dire need of comfort he looks to the moon for help
when struggling to survive the civil war alone. Furthermore, the moon for many in Sierra Leone

Endocrine System
What does the Endocrine System do for my body? Among the Endocrine system is seven glands
that secretes a specific hormone throughout the body for its regularity. WIth that being said the
hypothalamus, in the brain, is in charge of theses secretions through the pituitary gland or
hypophysis. The pituitary gland consists of the anterior portion and the posterior portion. Both of
these portions have different functions and secretions of hormones. In the posterior part of the
pituitary, the hormones secreted are oxytocin and the antidiuretic hormone. Oxytocin is responsible
for the contractions during delivery of a newborn and also produces the breast milk needed for the
newborn. The anterior portion, on the other hand, has quite a few different hormones that are
secreted to the body such as, the thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), Adrenocorticotropic hormone
(ACTH), follicle stimulating... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then there is the Pineal gland, or the sleepy gland. It produces melatonin which helps in sleep
cycles. The thyroid gland releases 3 different hormones that are beneficial to the body. These
hormones are calcitonin, triiodothyronine, and thyroxine. Triiodothyronine and thyroxine cooperate
in regulating the body s metabolic rate. Whereas, Calcitonin works to absorb calcium in the blood
and sends it to the bone matrix. The parathyroid gland is actually located at each corner of the
thyroid gland. This gland produces the parathyroid hormone and it regulates the calcium levels in
the blood and in the bones. Now, the adrenal glands consist of two separate parts that sit on top of
the kidneys, the medulla and cortex. The medulla portion produces the hormones, epinephrine and
norepinephrine. These hormones are how the body reacts in a stressful situation. The cortex is the
secondary part of the adrenal glands and its function mainly regulates blood pressure and blood
sugar levels by breaking down the proteins to produce glucose.

Federally Mandated Employee Benefits Essay
Offering employee benefits is one way a company must competes in today s marketplace to
retain old employees and attracts new ones. These benefit packages may range from offering
basic health insurance to additional discretionary and perk benefits such as vacation and
retirement packages. Benefit packages are often a large portion of employee costs and Federal
mandates require an employer to carry and offer certain benefits even if they offer nothing else.
Federally required employee benefits make up approximately a quarter of the costs associated with
employer offered benefit packages. Some of these mandated benefits include Social Security,

Flexibility Of The Constitution Essay
As our society is constantly changing, the Constitution is presented as an object of reverence
because what is now the United States, it holds us together with the flexibility and strength of the
living document, how the Constitution provides a stable framework, and how the amendment
process changes the Constitution. The flexibility and strength of the living document makes the
Constitution work because congress has the power to make proper and necessary finalized
decisions to carry out its enumerated powers. For example, Congress has the power to create a

The framers of the Constitution knew that the document was going to be changed over time
because if not, it would lead to a future revolution. The writers wanted it to be stable enough to
provide a long lasting framework for the government. Although the framers knew that the
Constitution would change over time they made the constitution difficult to change but possible.
Whenever the framers thought that it was necessary to amend the Constitution, they would need to
propose an amendment that would require a quorum of two thirds vote from both houses of
Congress, or a national convention called by two thirds of several states. Following the first step of
amending the Constitution, the proposed amendment has to be approved by either the state
legislatures or the state conventions depending on how congress first proposed the amendment, in
three fourths of the states. Then if it is approved, it becomes a part of the Constitution. Through the
years, there has been 27 amendments that have been made since its beginning. These amendments
gave citizens basic individual freedoms, but those who were denied of their rights based on their
skin color, gender, social status, and race, saw these changes as opportunities. Without these
ratifications U.S citizens wouldn t have many freedoms or opportunities. With citizens already

The Role of Mythology in the Lives of Ancient Greeks
The Ancient Greeks didn t understand many things in their lives. They wondered how the seasons

Greeks answered these questions through the myths of Gods and Goddesses. Ancient Greeks
believed that these Gods and Goddesses controlled the elements of nature and helped their lives for

What everyone didn t know is that Zeus may have helped plan it. Zeus one of the big three, is

made me do all those horrible things, but, deep down I knew what I had done was horrendous
and ungodly as well as unforgivable. If only I had listen to wise Odysseus call. I believe it was

Disadvantages Of CPEC
According to reported in The News, 65 countries are the part of One Belt, One Road project and
60% of world s GDP is contributing by these countries this will have an impact on Pakistan s
economy too as Pakistan has become center of attraction for many foreign investors after CPEC.
According to Shyam Bhagat China is heavily using under utilized capacity of its own industry
and manpower through CPEC as all material and goods and work force and there is no guarantee
either Pakistani labor will be recruited or no. So all the money invested by China will go back to
China with interest.

geopolitical game changer as it will impart an alternative route to South China Sea and Strait of

Pakistan needs to safeguard its national interest and international relations as too much reliance on
China is not good. Pakistan has to balance its relations with west and China as one sphere
influence would result to damage relation. Pakistan needs to play as diplomatic balancer to get the
best from both powers.
According to Abdul Ghani Chohan, since its inception Pakistan mostly relies on loans and foreign

Pakistan And The Climate Of Pakistan
Pakistan is located in the temperate area on the planet. The climate of Pakistan is generally divided
by two main seasons of cold winter and hot summer. Pakistan has a huge variation among extremes
of the temperature. A little rainfall also takes place in Pakistan s different parts of the country.
Pakistan has four seasons; winter, summer, spring and autumn. The winter seasonor cool winter
starts from December and ends in February, the dry spring starts from march through may, the
summer or rainy season starts from June till the end of September. Pakistanalso faces the monsoon
period in the month of October and November. The duration of above mentioned seasons depends
on the locations of regions. Pakistan has many regions, where snow can be seen in the months of
December and January. North of the Azad Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Northern Punjab, Northern
half of Khyber pakhtoon Khwa and some regions of Baluchistan are usually covered with snow in
the winter season. Pakistan is always hotter in the months of June and July. The weather of
Pakistan is getting hotter as compared to old days. In Wikipedia I studied an article that says:
Pakistan has recorded on 26th may 2010, one of the highest temperaturein the world, which was
53.5 degree centigrade (128.3 F). It is not only the hottest temperature that is recorded in Pakistan,

Bartleby Movie Themes
The film Bartleby represents the themes and characters of the story in numerous ways. Two major
themes of the story include choices and morality. In regard to making choices, Bartleby
continuously stated the phrase I would prefer not to , which shows that he took advantage of his
right to make decisions even if they did not please everyone else. This theme was translated in the
film because this is a phrase that Bartleby also stated countless times. The theme of mortality was
displayed in the short storywhen the narrator had a difficult time deciding how long he should
help Bartleby. Also, he wanted to decide if it would be right of him to give up on their work
relationship. However, he did act immorally by firing Bartleby and moving offices... Show more

he was employed at a Dead Letter Office. In their last encounter the narrator discovered the letter

Amusing Ourselves To Death Postman
Amusing Ourselves to Death Experiment
I never thought about what it would be like living without technology until I got assigned my
summer reading project, a twenty four hour electronic media fast. That meant absolutely no cell
phone, computer, radio, television, you couldn t even ride in a car! From the beginning I knew
this would be very challenging for me considering my cell phone is glued to me at the hip and I
can t sleep without the light from a television. I know, pathetic. When I first started I thoughtthis
would be so easy. I would breeze through this with no problem. Man was I wrong! I started at

Postman s argument that through technology we are amusing ourselves to death is also relevant to
the age of Internet. With the Internet we have many different sources available to get a lot of
information quickly. But, do we truly understand all the information? Postman thinks we take
things out of context and do not reason anymore. Also, look how entertaining the Internet can be.
YouTube has videos and other media. You can download music and movies. Social media is

However, you could say postman s argument is not relevant to the Internet age because with social

Spirituality and John Coltrane Essay
Spirituality and John Coltrane
After being fired from Miles Davis s band in 1957 for his chronic use of heroin, John Coltrane was
hurt tremendously. He decided it was time he quit using heroin. He took a month off from music
while he went cold turkey. During this month in the early spring of 1957, Coltrane had a momentous
religious experience (Nisenson, 40). Coltrane asked God to give him the means and privilege to
make others happy through music (Coltrane, 1995, 2). As time went on, Coltrane felt that he was
leading a life that was contradictory to the pledge and away from the esteemed path that he had
made to God (Coltrane, 1995, 2). Starting with A Love Supreme (recorded in December, 1964),

As Coltrane was starting to get introduced to the greats of jazz like Miles Davis and Charlie Parker,
he started drinking heavily. Then, probably in 1953, he started doing heroin (Thomas, 52). By
1957, he had played with Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, and twice with Miles Davis. Davis,
a recovering heroin addict himself, said of Coltrane during this time that he d be playing in
clothes that looked like he had slept in them for days . . . and when he wasn t nodding, [he d be]
picking his nose and sometimes eating it (Davis, 212). Once, while on stage with Davis, Coltrane
nodded out, and Davis punched him in the stomach. Eventually, Davis would kick him out of his
band for the second time.
While Coltrane was kicking his habit in early 1957, he was touched by God. How this came
about was known only to Coltrane. But the transformation in him resulted in some of the most
powerful music of the twentieth century. In late 1957, he started working on what was to be
known as sheets of sound, a style in which Coltrane would play every note in chord as fast as he
could, while starting and ending in different notes in a specific key. That year, he released his first
acclaimed album on the Blue Note label, Blue Train, which was a record of jazz standards.
Miles Davis loved the new Coltrane, and hired him back into his band for a third time. Davis came
up with a new jazz concept, modal improvisation.

day life. From the second you get up in the morning to the second you go to sleep computer are
tied into what you do and use in some way. It is tied in to you life in the most obvious and
obscure ways. Take for example you wake up in the morning usually to a digital alarm clock. You

computer components in the world). You pick up the phone it uses computers. No mater how hard
you try you can get away from them you can t.

of its time. Computers used the much smaller transistor over the bulky vacuum tubes. Another
invention which influenced second generation computers and every generation after it was the
discovery of magnetic core memory. Now magnetic tapes and disks were used to store programs

without totally being reprogrammed or rewired to do another task. All you had to do was pop in

How Can Vitamin D Get Breastmilk
Vitamin D and Breastmilk
There is a growing interest in Vitamin D these past few years. Vitamin D is for the metabolism of
the bone. It is important throughout life. Aside from that, Vitamin D have many other functions in
the human body that plays an important role in the prevention of chronic diseases. Vitamin D is
very important and we get enough of it from the time we are born.
Here are the 7 facts you need to know about Vitamin D and the breastmilk
1. Vitamin D is not deficient in breastmilk. It is true that Vitamin D level is low in breastmilk but
it is not nature s fault. There are physiological reasons for it. Breastmilk is the biologically normal
way to feed babies and if breastmilk is a less or plenty, there are good reasons for that.
2. We can get Vitamin D from sun exposure. We are designed to get Vitamin D from sun exposure
rather than from our diet. If we can get enough Vitamin D from sun exposure,... Show more content

The ideal level of Vitamin D is still unknown. According to the Institue of Medicine, the Vitamin D
level is a blood concentration of at least 50 nmol/L while the Endocrine Society suggests that
Vitamin D level should be at least 75 nmol/L.
6. Each country has different recommendations. The recommendation about Vitamin D varies
depending on the country where you live. In the US, the American Academy of Pediatrics
recommends 400 IU per day of Vitamin D for breastfed babies since birth. On the other hand,
Australia recommends the use of Vitamin D supplement of 400 IU is limited to breastfed babies
who are born to dark skinned and veiled women.
7. Supplementing breastfeeding mothers can improve the level of Vitamin D of their babies.
Breastfeeding mothers who will take Vitamin D supplement of 6400 IU/day will supply her
breastmilk enough Vitamin D to support the requirement of her breastfed baby. This is an
alternative way to giving a supplement directly to the

the legacy of the Chinese system is that people speaking essentially different languages, such as

form of architecture. A Chinese structure is based on the principle of balance and symmetry. Office
buildings, residences, temples, and palaces all follow the principle that the main structure is the

musical instruments, and religious ritual vessels were made from it. One of the most important
contributions China made to humankind was its writing system that united all parts of China.
Other contributions include paper making, printing, gunpowder, and the mariner s compass. Small

Nonbelief as Support for Atheism Essay
Nonbelief as Support for Atheism
The Canadian philosopher J.L. Schellenberg has recently put forward an argument for atheism
based on the idea that God is supposed to be perfectly loving and so would not permit people to
be deprived of awareness of his existence. If such a deity were to exist, then, he would do
something to reveal his existence clearly to people, thereby causing them to become theists. Thus,
the fact that there are so many non theists in the world becomes good reason to deny the existence
of God conceived of in the given way. I first raise objections to Schellenberg s formulationof the
argument and then suggest some improvements. My main improvement is to include among the
divine attributes the property of strongly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

In this paper I shall first raise some objections to the argument and then try to show how it might be
improved.
Objections
(A) Irrelevance of the term reasonable
Schellenberg regards reasonable nonbelief to be that which is inculpable (i.e., for which the
nonbeliever is not to blame). The distinction between culpable and inculpable nonbelief is
somewhat unclear, but even if it could be sufficiently understood I am inclined to say that all
nonbelief in God is inculpable. For that reason, I would accept premise (3) of the argument.
Schellenberg devotes a chapter of his book to a defense of it. Although I agree with what he
says there, it seems to me that even if people s nonbelief in God were always somehow their own
fault, that would be irrelevant. A perfectly loving deity would set vindictiveness aside and still
want to help nonbelievers (by supplying them with evidence of his existence), despite their
culpability. All it would take, for most, would be some spectacular miracle, or perhaps, as
Schellenberg prefers, a religious experience. So, even if some clear sense could be attached to the
distinction between culpable and inculpable nonbelief, the real force of Schellenberg s argument
would lie in the fact of nonbelief itself. The issue of whether or not the nonbelief is culpable would
be irrelevant. It would therefore improve the argument if the word reasonable were simply omitted
from it.

Premise (1) should be

What Is The Differences Between The Monarchy, Aristocracy,...
In this essay I will be comparing and contrasting monarchy, aristocracy, tyranny, oligarchy, and
democracy in Ancient Greece.
Monarchy.
There are two types of monarchy one is a constitutional monarchy and the other is absolute
monarchy. Absolute monarchs are really all powerful, they are able to pass laws and veto any
law passed or suggested by politicians, a constitutional monarch has less power and is really only a
figurehead as a head of state.
In Ancient Greece there were not really a lot of monarchies, there was of course Sparta with its
unique two King system. The two Kings come from the direct descendants of the founders of
Sparta, they weren t really absolute monarchs because they had the ephors stopping them from
taking too many decisions that could be harmful to the state (Cartwright, 2013). There were other
monarchies in the times of Ancient Greece, most notably Macedonia, that went on to conquer
Greece in 336 BCE (Brand, n.d. ,p36).
Aristocracy.
This was the rule of a few elite people. They were always the richest people and what we would call
today the Lords or Ladies. They were the highest of the upper classes. This would have given them
a good chance of perks and probably a good way of becoming wealthier (Mahabal, Joshi, 2017).
Tyranny.

The Reform And Implementation Of A New Defined Benefit...
INTRODUCTION With the reform and implementation of a new defined benefit public pension
system, Indonesia seeks to achieve international standards when it comes to public pensions. A
new 1st pillar earnings related defined benefit scheme named Jaminan Pensiun (JPN) was
officially put into place on July 1st. With the exception of the non contributory zero pillar
program, the implementation of JPN completes the Five Pillar Conceptual Framework suggested
by the World Bank (World Bank, 2008). In this paper, the adequacy, sustainability, predictability,
and robustness of Indonesia s pension scheme will be evaluated in comparison to other countries
with similar pension schemes. The focus will mostly be on the new program JPN, and to a lesser
extent, the old Jamsostek program Jaminan Hari Tua (JHT). DB AND DC SCHEMES Indonesia
has both of these schemes implemented in the pension system. Both schemes cover only the formal
sector. DC (Jaminan Hari Tua) Prior to the 2015 reform, Indonesia s DC system was abused by
contributors by withdrawing the balance long before the maturity of the fund/retirement . A reform
was made so that the minimum contributory period was 10 years and a large part of the balance
cannot be withdrawn until participants reach retirement age. Most individuals do not understand
the actuarial component in a DC scheme. Early contributions in the accumulation period matters

Analysis Of Diary Of A Wimpy Kid
Have you ever read a book where you read all about a lousy teenagers problems? Maybe even his
whole life. His crazy embarrassing family, and his weirdo friends. Diary of a Wimpy Kid. A
great book written by the one and only Jeff Kinney. Greg Heffley, the main character, is a wimpy
kid and most likely will never change his ways. Someone tries to tell Gregs father, Frank. Frank
tries to get his son to man up a little bit and signs him up for sports and clubs. Which, obviously
did not work. ... I got down off the deck and started climbing up the tree... I couldn t believe my
ears. I guess dad felt like he owed me for saving him yesterday, and this was his way of paying

something about it. The passage above connects to this theme because Greg had to man up to
climb the tree to retrieve his baby brothers blanket after he threw it into a tree off of the deck.
Afterwards, his father did not want to take a turn playing a game because he did not want to sit
next to someone that he did not like. Therefore Greg took his place and basically saved his life
for the day. Although Greg s ways may never change he definitely made some progress with
manning up on that day. One setting from this novel that is important to this book is the Heffley
household. It is important to the book because if it weren t for the Heffley house, many events

Film The Piano Essay Film The Piano In the film The Piano , it displays varieties of themes like love, loyalty, betrayal and etc. Beneath each theme lie the values which were shown throughout the film. It was about a woman who doesn t speak since the age of six and her relationship with her daughter and her piano. Because of her actions, it had affected some of the characters in the film. Love and loyalty was also shown in the film. Stewart loved Ada but never did he know that Ada would actually be in loyal to him. He was too angry that he chopped off Ada s finger. She did not realize that she had betrayed her mother. It was the same for Ada too. She wanted to be honest of her feelings for George but because of her honesty she betrayed Stewart by having an affair with George. The scenes were a mixture of the 19th century and 20th century values. The way they had dressed themselves were liked the 19th century. • 5. Persuasive Essay On Black Hate In the same way, the Spelman College administration, faculty, and students that disregard the West End community that surrounds the college only contribute to the erosion of our community and our people. Although this is not a language of hate, it is a clear display of indifference which communicates the same thing. Choosing to disregard the homeless, pay little attention to the gentrification that is rampantly kicking our people out of our community, or ignore ways to provide opportunities or exposure to the high school students in our own back yard; are we truly activating black love as political resistance or are we ignoring the needs of the people that are around us every day? We need to realize that there are two vehicles that drive the future of the black community: one of black love and one of black hate. Realize that, although society drives black hate we can be passengers in that car. We can disagree and reject their ideology, all the while internalizing it. Even though we are not driving, our inability to articulate black love as fluently as we articulate black hate, allows black hate to trump black love. Therefore, in our lives, in our homes, in our communities, and on our HBCU campuses the darkness and degradation of blackness thrives by separating us from our own people and making it seem normal to demean ourselves, our race, and our people. Is this behavior not subtly mimicking those of the oppressor? Although some our actions contradict our feelings toward ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How Does Narayan Present Women In The Ramayana In the chapter The Wedding from Narayan s The Ramayana, the portrayal of men and women in ancient India show how both men and women have emotional distresses, but their reactions to this distress are different, showing how men and women are supposed to follow masculinity or femininity. Sita s exaggerated plight, Ramas muted distress, and the emotional distress of the men of Mithila when they cannot marry Sita, shows different ways that the story portrays men and women through love, and how The Ramayanadefines how men and woman act. • 7. Socioeconomic Effects of Coffee Trade on the Ethiopian Farmer Socioeconomic effects on farmers in a volatile Ethiopian coffee market and the promise of the Fair Trade movement Coffee and Ethiopia have shared a lengthy and highly tumultuous relationship. According to some, their history dates back to the fifteenth century, but it is widely acknowledged that extensive trade didn t begin until the late eighteenth century (Aregay 1988, 19). As world coffee consumption skyrocketed in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, Ethiopia s economy grew increasingly dependent on the industry. By the mid 1970 s, it s estimated that coffee accounted for a staggering 55% of all Ethiopian exports. This figure has since declined, and today it s estimated to be somewhere around 35% (Daviron, Ponte 2005, 61 62). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yet again, we are faced with the unavoidable question: if the farmer is not making any money, the millers aren t making any money and the exporters are not making any money, who is? To answer this, we must look to the roasters and retailers: a group of five corporate giants who purchase over fifty percent of the market s green coffee beans (Gresser, Tickell 2002, 27 28). Certain analysts have estimated that Nestle earns up to 26% profit on all instant coffee sales (Luttinger, Dicum 2011, 131). The great disparity is made possible by the massive amounts of power these companies possess. Though public perception of the companies has begun a move toward skepticism, it is still largely positive. Corporations work to enormous lengths to ensure brand loyalty. For example, instant coffee companies in the UK spent over $68 million on advertising in 1999. Because they re aware that the public might not agree with their business practices, they work relentlessly to ensure that we don t learn too much. Nestle is known for releasing intentionally complex business records that often pool all of their beverage profits, which includes many non coffee products, into one (Luttinger, Dicum 2011, 118). Alcohol Television Commercials are Misleading Viewers Essay Alcohol Television Commercials are Misleading Viewers At any given time a person can turn on their television and find a commercial of some sort. Their main purpose is for them to throw information about their product to anyone who will listen. It is also common for this form of advertisement to be promoting an alcoholic beverage. Whether it s a catchy song with the chorus chanting This Bud s for you! or three frogs belching Bud Wei Ser! , viewers learn the slogans and use them in their own lives. They do provide, however, information on where the product can be found and an exaggeration of its effects on the audience s lives. Additionally, the more highly valued the image, the more persuasive the ad is expected to be (Covell, 1992, p.3), and since our culture encourages alcohol consumption in order to have a good time, alcohol commercials play off that information as much as they can. For example, children look up to their parents and stereotype them positively, and since alcohol is considered an adult activity, they also tend to stereotype alcoholic consumption positively. By 1957, he had played with Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, and twice with Miles Davis. Davis, a recovering heroin addict himself, said of Coltrane during this time that he d be playing in clothes that looked like he had slept in them for days . . . and when he wasn t nodding, [he d be] picking his nose and sometimes eating it (Davis, 212). Once, while on stage with Davis, Coltrane nodded out, and Davis punched him in the stomach. Eventually, Davis would kick him out of his band for the second time. While Coltrane was kicking his habit in early 1957, he was touched by God. How this came about was known only to Coltrane. But the transformation in him resulted in some of the most powerful music of the twentieth century. In late 1957, he started working on what was to be known as sheets of sound, a style in which Coltrane would play every note in chord as fast as he could, while starting and ending in different notes in a specific key. That year, he released his first acclaimed album on the Blue Note label, Blue Train, which was a record of jazz standards. Miles Davis loved the new Coltrane, and hired him back into his band for a third time. Davis came up with a new jazz concept, modal improvisation. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Nonbelief as Support for Atheism Essay Nonbelief as Support for Atheism The Canadian philosopher J.L. Schellenberg has recently put forward an argument for atheism based on the idea that God is supposed to be perfectly loving and so would not permit people to be deprived of awareness of his existence. If such a deity were to exist, then, he would do something to reveal his existence clearly to people, thereby causing them to become theists. Thus, the fact that there are so many non theists in the world becomes good reason to deny the existence of God conceived of in the given way. I first raise objections to Schellenberg s formulationof the argument and then suggest some improvements. My main improvement is to include among the divine attributes the property of strongly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (1) In this paper I shall first raise some objections to the argument and then try to show how it might be improved. Objections (A) Irrelevance of the term reasonable Schellenberg regards reasonable nonbelief to be that which is inculpable (i.e., for which the nonbeliever is not to blame). The distinction between culpable and inculpable nonbelief is somewhat unclear, but even if it could be sufficiently understood I am inclined to say that all nonbelief in God is inculpable. For that reason, I would accept premise (3) of the argument. Schellenberg devotes a chapter of his book to a defense of it. Although I agree with what he says there, it seems to me that even if people s nonbelief in God were always somehow their own fault, that would be irrelevant. A perfectly loving deity would set vindictiveness aside and still want to help nonbelievers (by supplying them with evidence of his existence), despite their culpability. All it would take, for most, would be some spectacular miracle, or perhaps, as Schellenberg prefers, a religious experience. So, even if some clear sense could be attached to the distinction between culpable and inculpable nonbelief, the real force of Schellenberg s argument would lie in the fact of nonbelief itself. The issue of whether or not the nonbelief is culpable would be irrelevant. It would therefore improve the argument if the word reasonable were simply omitted from it. • 34. What Is The Differences Between The Monarchy, Aristocracy,... In this essay I will be comparing and contrasting monarchy, aristocracy, tyranny, oligarchy, and democracy in Ancient Greece. Monarchy. There are two types of monarchy one is a constitutional monarchy and the other is absolute monarchy. Absolute monarchs are really all powerful, they are able to pass laws and veto any law passed or suggested by politicians, a constitutional monarch has less power and is really only a figurehead as a head of state. In Ancient Greece there were not really a lot of monarchies, there was of course Sparta with its unique two King system. The two Kings come from the direct descendants of the founders of Sparta, they weren t really absolute monarchs because they had the ephors stopping them from taking too many decisions that could be harmful to the state (Cartwright, 2013). There were other monarchies in the times of Ancient Greece, most notably Macedonia, that went on to conquer Greece in 336 BCE (Brand, n.d. ,p36). Aristocracy. This was the rule of a few elite people. They were always the richest people and what we would call today the Lords or Ladies. They were the highest of the upper classes. This would have given them a good chance of perks and probably a good way of becoming wealthier (Mahabal, Joshi, 2017). Tyranny. A tyranny could be described as a government that would be ... INTRODUCTION With the reform and implementation of a new defined benefit public pension system, Indonesia seeks to achieve international standards when it comes to public pensions. A new 1st pillar earnings related defined benefit scheme named Jaminan Pensiun (JPN) was officially put into place on July 1st. With the exception of the non contributory zero pillar program, the implementation of JPN completes the Five Pillar Conceptual Framework suggested by the World Bank (World Bank, 2008). In this paper, the adequacy, sustainability, predictability, and robustness of Indonesia s pension scheme will be evaluated in comparison to other countries with similar pension schemes. The focus will mostly be on the new program JPN, and to a lesser extent, the old Jamsostek program Jaminan Hari Tua (JHT). DB AND DC SCHEMES Indonesia has both of these schemes implemented in the pension system. Both schemes cover only the formal sector. DC (Jaminan Hari Tua) Prior to the 2015 reform, Indonesia s DC system was abused by contributors by withdrawing the balance long before the maturity of the fund/retirement . A reform was made so that the minimum contributory period was 10 years and a large part of the balance cannot be withdrawn until participants reach retirement age. I couldn t believe my ears. I guess dad felt like he owed me for saving him yesterday, and this was his way of paying me back (Kinney 109 and 113). The theme of the novel is to be strong because someone will do something about it. The passage above connects to this theme because Greg had to man up to climb the tree to retrieve his baby brothers blanket after he threw it into a tree off of the deck. Afterwards, his father did not want to take a turn playing a game because he did not want to sit next to someone that he did not like. Therefore Greg took his place and basically saved his life for the day. Although Greg s ways may never change he definitely made some progress with manning up on that day.
