Social Technology and the Sociocultural Aspects of Learning

Street Traffic, Safety, and Accidents
Roads are the backbone and essential modes of transportation, providing many different supports for
human civilization. Among the early and inexpensive technologies available for developing
comprehensive traffic, management proposals are Road capacity, traffic sign (i.e. pavement markings,
road sign, etc.), Guard rails, cross marking etc traffic calming, vehicle parking regulations and
controls, pedestrian measures, accident reduction programs, Bus priority measures. As technology
evolved, application of Intelligent Traffic System (ITS) was introduced. (Olaogbebikan J. E et al.
2013). Street lighting also improves safety for drivers, riders, and pedestrians. They concluded that on
average the presence of street lighting reduces the severity of injuries by a factor of 3.
Intelligent transportation systems (ITS) are advanced applications which, without embodying
intelligence as such, aim to provide innovative services relating to different modes of transport and
traffic management and enable various users to be better informed and make safer, more coordinated,
and smarter use of transport networks. Roadways are, unfortunately, the scene where preventable
urban fatalities take place. Pedestrians unknowingly crossing busy streets; drivers distracted by their
phones;

Panama s Violation Of Human Rights Violated
People that live in Panama and that go in and out of Panama are getting their Human Rights Violated.
The Government has caused many of these incidents such as people being tortured in prisons just
because the officers have the authority to. Although all of these problems happened because Panama
doesn t have a president. They have a dictator and the dictator just uses the army to stop the
Panamanian people to revolt against their leader. The dictator of Panama has allowed members of the
army to go into prisons and if any of the prisoners are acting up, use force to stop them. But those
members in the army take advantage and beat the prisoners severely. That s breaking their human
rights but they people of Panama can t do or say anything or else ... Show more content on

But many of these journalists are being denied to go into the country and some of them are allowed
into the country but they aren t allowed to meeting that the dictator will have with other officials. It
happened in other countries as well and progressed its way to Panama. This summer, Bertoni
submitted a report to the inter American Commission on Human Rights documenting a program run
by the Colombian government to protect journalists. The report said hundreds of journalists had
benefited from the program but that it needed more political support and a larger budget. (Boustany).
Other countries were having the same problem with journalists going into the country when they are
allowed to, then they are just denied and left with no information. Other countries such as Argentina
and Chile are discussing about making same laws for the journalists and how they can prevent form
their human rights being violated. Civil society is responsible for these new laws. All we did was
advocate it and give support while the process was underway. (Boustany). Society is the cause for this
because people such as the dictator, make sure that these things don t happen and then the government
has to try to make laws for the dictator to

Persuasive Essay On Eugenics
A lot of people have not heard of Eugenics because of the dark past in the history of not only the
United States but also across Europe. What does it mean to have a perfect world? Back in the 1920s
they had an idea to create a world that only included a certain idea of whom the best type of people
were. This may sound like an interesting idea but the price of our own human decency was taken in
which human life did not mean the same for everyone. Most people are unaware of what Eugenics is
because it is not a proud point in the United States, so it does not get taught or talked about very often.
Eugenics started in the late 1800 s. A man named, Sir Francis Galton was the first person to use the
word eugenics. The word eugenics means, the science of improving a human population by controlled
breeding to increase the occurrence of desirable heritable characteristics. (Eugenics) For a while
Eugenics was just an idea of how to perfect the human population. The ideas were put into books and
then analyzed scientifically, but in a way that was biased and unreliable. The Supreme Court put a law
in place called, Buck V. Bell, which supported the obligatory sterilization of people that would be seen
as unfit in our society. This law was put in place in the year of 1927 and was reprimanded in 1942.
Although in some places it still goes on today illegally. The science of Eugenics was not based on
personality but rather on physical and mental traits.
They made assumptions rather

What Makes Antonio Gaudi Innovator
That s what makes Antonio Gaudí an innovator of the time. That s what makes him different from his
contemporanean and the rest of architects, that he sees architecture as a game of imagination and
creation, while the others stack to the classical idea of architecture, to the lineal shapes and the
perfection of the simple. His radical conception of architecture still fascinates us nowadays, and we
still admire his whole work. Gaudí was a pioneer, too modern for his time, innovator on work
processes, and creator of new architectonic shapes. A creator inventor innovator that made an
inimitable style, and that gifted us with a legacy applicable nowadays to multiple disciplines, from
ergonomic design to empresarial management. Antonio Gaudí is, under Santiago Calatrava s point of
view, an example of architectonical innovation just by mixing a singular talent with a solid technical
formation. Gaudí , he says, is a big artist by himself. His work can be understand in the context of
catalan modernism, but he really is a big personality that emerges on the XXth century. ... Show more

He was also an inventor, and he also revolutionized the image that furniture had until then. In a Spain
where Primo de Rivera, a conservative dictator, was gaining more and more power and few years
later, in 1923, would reach the government, we can imagine how extremely conservative the classes
were. In Barcelona, in 1902, there was a massive protest by the anarchists, that wanted a far more
liberal Spain. Few years later, in 1909, happened what is called The tragic week , when a lot of liberal
and left winged activists were brutally murdered. We have to imagine Gaudí in this context to
understand better why, in some part, Gaudí was such a

Compare And Contrast Maol Pot And Mao Zedong
Pol Pot and Mao Zedong committed horrendous acts of genocide. Both are leaders of their country
and are merciless when it comes to gaining, and or controlling power. Pol Pot was a leader of the
Khmer Rouge and committed the Cambodia genocide. Mao Zedong was the leader of China and he
committed the Great Chinese Famine. Both countries were communist; Cambodia became a
communist country after it was taken over by the Khmer Rouge. Both Pol Pot and Mao Zedong were
fearless leaders who would give the order to commit violence. Pol Pot played a role in mass violence
in Cambodia with the Khmer Rouge. While taking over Cambodia, people were relocated, starved,
and executed. The total death toll of the Cambodian genocide was around 2 million. Mao Zedong was
perhaps the biggest advocate for mass violence. His plan, the Great Leap Forward, was a plan in
which farmers would report higher agricultural gains than in reality. This would bring about a deficit
within China and many people would soon start to starve and die from starvation. After the Great
China Famine, the Cultural Revolution and Red Guards came into play. Red Guards roamed the cities
and humiliated, persecuted, and or killed enemies of the state. Pol Pot s justification for mass violence
was that he wanted to create an agrarian utopia. Pol Pot wanted complete control, so he would execute
anyone who would oppose him. Anyone that may have been thought as a threat towards a revolution
was also killed, such as educated people.

The Differences Of The Brer Rabbit, By Alan Mcdonald
This essay could be compared with the African American folk story Brer rabbit and tar baby. This
story is basically about a Brer fox who detested the Brer rabbit for bossing everyone around. The Brer
fox only wanted to kill the Brer rabbit and end the infuriating behavior caused by it. One day the Brer
fox made a Tar baby to trick the Brer rabbit. The Brer rabbit then finally stumbled across the
treacherous trap. It tried talking and mingling with the tar baby but had got no response. Tar baby is a
non living object made of clammy tar. The non response from the tar baby started to annoy the Brer
rabbit. Hence the Brer rabbit starts to punch the tar baby. This made the Brer rabbit unpleasantly stick
on the tar baby. The Brer rabbit was unable to escape this trap. Brer rabbit could represent something
or someone who could put himself/herself into a tight spot by making an unwise assumption and then
behaving in a rash manner. In the essay by Annie Dillard, Alan McDonald could be the Brer rabbit.
His actions may have been impulsive. He could have probably avoided his predicament. The Brer
rabbit and Alan McDonald are like anyone of us. We could fall ... Show more content on

The Remington restaurant, located in Tampa Florida, wanted to better understand their customer s

What kind of result was found by the research design? Compare the effectiveness of the survey
research to the other subordinate data, experimentation or observation in the perspective of gathering
information for this project. The type of survey that the Remington Restaurant used was the self
administered Internet survey. This kind of survey is probably the cheapest survey for the person
collecting data. It involves minimum personnel and low cost as compared with other methods. Since
73% of American households are actively using the Internet, an Internet survey would be the best idea
to cover a large location fact while conserving energy, money, and time (Cooper, Schindler, 2008).
Internet survey s can also give one access to graphs, charts and percentages automatically. Also, the
Internet survey will be able to give one an idea of the customer s attitude and perception of the
Remington s Restaurant. By using secondary information one would be able to see general
information such as, what the demographic is of the average family is in the area, what is the general
income, and how many times the family eats at restaurant in a week. By shifting the focus off of the
Remington s Restaurant and on to the genre of restaurants the Remington s Restaurant is associated
with would dilute the information the Remington s Restaurant wanted to know about their customer s
satisfaction with the Remington s Restaurant.

Stereotypes In The Outsiders By SE Hinton
In the Out Siders written by SE Hinton, set in the 1960 s, is a novel focused on Two Stereotypical
youth gangs, the greasers (east side people who are poor), and the Socs (Westside people who are
rich). SE Hinton has included many themes throughout the novel, as the story develops around youth
conflict between these two stereotypical youth sides, and how a death could mean so much to both.
This is shown as SE Hinton communicates the themes, Stereotypes, family, and empathy throughout
The Outsiders . Stereotypes are a common theme in the outsiders, SE Hinton shows this in the novel
as Ponyboy refers to the term greasers , (chapter one page three) He continues which is used to class
all us boys on the east side ... we re poorer than the socs this indicates that the characters in the

The Scarcity Of Food Scarcity
During the late 1700s, food scarcity was not an issue, for the population was not as large as today,
which is over seven billion people. I would not be worrying about a food crisis or starvation unless a
man like Thomas Malthus came along and spread rumors that it could happen, especially if it is in our
future. Since people were first exposed to that idea during Malthus time, it is reasonable why people
would stress about it instantly. Nobody knows when food scarcity could happen. All they know is that
it is eminent with regards to Malthus claims that the population is growing rapidly, and food
production will reach its peak. It takes just one food crisis event to confirm to the public that Malthus
prediction was true, and that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These are issues that need to be considered by farmers, scientists, and agricultural institutions. The
Earth s land is a precious resource, because it sustains the food we need to live. Without land, there is
no place to grow food, and without food, human survival is unlikely. Taking care of the land is a
lifetime job, and all involved in agriculture need to do their job to sustain the resource and spread the
message to future generations. Doing so will allow the land to continue flourishing, thus maintain the
food supply. An overgrowing population, food scarcity, and land maintenance are some of the
problems discussed in food politics, but another issue that is relevant today is high international food
prices. After the year 2000, several economic crisis took place worldwide, leading countries to close
or implement higher taxes on exported food. As a result, nations secured their domestic markets, but
international food prices rose shortly. To deal with the dilemma, country leaders should consult with
each about ways to manage the market during financial crisis. Some countries rely on exported food to
sustain their livestock and population, so an increase in food prices could force dependent nations to
buy less food and sacrifice some of their livestock, or worse, their people. The reality is that people
are already pushed toward sacrifice. Almost a billion people worldwide are malnourished and close to
death. No one

Wentworth MacDougal directly in the throat with a solid right cross. From there, it only got worse.
Steak broke both of the professor s legs with a high heeled shoe and a two by four he found in a

series of vicious rabbit punches to Wentworth MacDougal s face and head. In the entire three minutes,
the professor had only attempted a hilariously effeminate backhand, which didn t connect with
anything but a barstool. According to Mr. Lovett, the professor had attempted to resolve the conflict
with humor. However, it was only escalated when he began yelping a series of elaborate, pretentious

The Causes Of The Industrial Strike In 1900 s Industrial
In Chicago, on May 4, 1886, a riot broke out between German born labor radicals and Chicago law
enforcement officers. The demonstration, organized to protest the killing of a striker by the Chicago
police the day before and for an eight hour workday, attracted about One thousand five hundred
protestors. However, when the riot began there were only approximately three hundred protestors left
due to rain. About half way through the rally, two hundred Chicago policemen arrived to end the
protest. The riot started when an unknown individual threw a bomb at the police officers. The crowd
of officers then opened fire on the protestors, killing over twelve and injuring almost one hundred.
About suspects were convicted and their sentences ranged from fifteen years in prison to life in prison
to execution. The events that took place in Chicago, on May 4, 1886 were horrible, clearly
demonstrating the importance of peacefully protesting and that the U.S. government should not
interfere with demonstrations such as this one.
The Homestead Strike was an industrial strike at the Carnegie Steel Company plant that occurred in
Homestead, Pennsylvania, on July 6, 1892. Many regard it as one of the most violent labor strikes in

Sea Ports Advantages
Ports are basically a means of integration into the global economic system. Ports are basically a means
of integration into the global economic system. As international barriers to trade have effectively been
lifted by the WTO agreements since the 1980s, global manufacturers have vertically disintegrated
their production systems into geographically dispersed and flexibly organized supply chain
systems. The development of deep sea ports as associate economic infrastructure assumes that like
roads, communications and alternative economic infrastructures, ports have a positive impact on the
expansion and development of states. Deep sea port development has positive effects on employment
and revenue earnings of a rustic.. The cluster of activities in sea ports everywhere the globe clearly

Essay On New York City Crime
New York City is just like every other major city in the United States. New York City crime rate is the
main reason why people are moving out of the city that they call home. American s believe that a civil
decent society is a place where they can receive an education, and have access to things in life such a
life, liberty and freedom. According to United States of America (1994), Public spaces are among
New York City s greatest assets. The city s parks, playgrounds, streets, avenues, stoops and plazas are
the forums that make possible the sense of vitality, excitement, and community that are the pulse of
urban life. As time goes by these places have be ruined by environment problems such as eye sore

When The Housing Market Collapse
When the housing market collapse occurred I was much younger and not fully aware or advised of
how serious the situation really was. Several of my family members owned homes then, but looking
back now they sheltered their children from the situation completely. I realized still to this day I do not
know how or what they were doing to get through the market collapse but I realize my situation could
have been much worse. Now years later I am faced with the decision to buy a home someday like
many in my generation and those looking to buy property again. But just like a growing society its
citizens must learn from previous mistakes made in order to avoid the same outcomes and flourish.
Here are just some of the lessons we must learn from:
First you must do your own research. If you are seriously looking for a home look into everything you
can think of and then research some more. If you have a partner then you will be able to expand your
research with two different points of views and get more results. Don t depend on Wall Street and their
outlooks for the future because in reality it is a game of chances. Just because someone says jump off
a bridge into shallow water because you won t drown would you do it? The people on Wall Street and
those in charge (unless psychic) can t predict the future.
Another lesson learned: Mortgage debt is real debt and must be paid eventually. A lot of home owners
would refinance their homes for extra cash but you can t do that forever.

Censorship In John Green s Looking For Alaska
Dear Mesa Public Schools Governing Board,
Many books have pushed the boundaries of censorship. Topics like sexuality, explicit language, and
substance use that are present in multiple pieces of literature are some of the many things that will
have a book be considered for banning. Looking For Alaska by John Green is one of those challenged
books. Although it may include sexual scenes and explicit language,it is a book that should not be
banned because of its relatable characters and important themes. First, the majority of characters in
Looking For Alaska are relatable to contemporary teens and therefore should not be banned. Miles
Halter is a teenage boy that wants something exciting to happen, I was after a Great Perhaps... (Green
5). He covets for an event that changes his life from dull to exhilarating, something most people have
desired for in their lives. Another character that is relatable is Alaska Young. She enjoys sex and
alcoholic beverages, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the themes is to be strong. This is present when Miles goes to Alaska for comfort and she tells
him, Mommy ain t here so buck up big guy, (Green 27). The message is important because life is filled
with problems, but everyone has to keep going. Another theme in the book is to not think of a person
as anything but a person. This is prominent when Chip and Miles are arguing and Chip says, You don t
even care about her! All that matters is you and your precious f**cking fantasy that you and Alaska
had this godd**ned secret love affair.. (Green 170). This lesson is important because often times, teens
may look at another person and think that they are perfect when in reality they are not. These are
lessons Miles had to learn with experiences. Both messages are important especially with adolescents
because they might experience what Miles did and want guidance, which is what this book

Descartes, Leibniz, And Spinoza Essay
If these great thinkers (Descartes, Spinoza, and Leibniz) were to discuss instead the soul s connection
to the body, what might each say (both on his own behalf and in response to the other)? Would they
find any places where they might agree? If not, why not? (These are, after all, smart guys!)
Though this sort of meeting would strike me as a debate with as furiously disparate and
uncompromising ideals as one would find in a meeting of Andrew Weil, Jerry Falwell, and David
Duke, I expect that the philosophers would find some surprisingly common ground. Descartes, the
Christian outcast, Spinoza, the Jewish outcast, and Leibniz, the creative mathematician all
acknowledge that what we know better than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although Descartes claims of the body s necessary existence follows from the cogito if the mind
exists, then it must exist in contrast to other, external things I presume that both Spinoza and Leibniz
would take the opportunity to point out that Descartes presupposes the existence of the god that
necessarily created his body and mind before speculating on whether or not his body and mind exist.
Nice claim, bad explanation.
Spinoza s staunch, pantheistic monist view of the world establishes that the mind and body are not
separate entities in themselves, but only two of an infinite amount of attributes of the same and only
substance in existence God. One can relate this reasoning to two attributes of a red hot poker red and
hot. Does this entail that red and hot are always dependent on a poker and that they are in essence the
same thing? Although this is not a likely conclusion, Spinoza raises the important question of how far
we can analytically separate parts of a world that are always interacting with each other. Try getting a
metal poker to glow red without heating it, or heating a poker without eventually having it glow red.
This is improbable, albeit possible in theory. The mind and body may be two separately identifiable
things, but one will more than likely find the two cooperating with each other as attributes of the
natural world.
Such cooperation

History Of The Andes Mountains
The Andes Mountains is the longest mountain range in the world above the sea. They are over 7,200
kilometres and go past 7 countries, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Argentina.

Andes is also home to more than 50 volcanoes, one is the world s highest volcano above sea level, on
the Chilean Argentina border, this measures up to 6,893m tall. The people around the Andes were
mostly from Peru and Spain but there were also native aboriginals.

The Issue Of Equal Pay For Equal Work
The issue of equal pay for equal work performed by women; is a political hot button in the 2016
presidential campaign. So much so that the stump speeches, for both former secretary of state Hillary
Clinton, and senator, Bernie Sanders, always include this issue. Since the 1960s, congress and many
researchers have tested this theory. In order to affirm the validity of this message, we will perform a
five step hypothesis test. In the book, Statistical Techniques in Business Economics, authors D. Lind,
W. Marchal S. Wathen (2012), describe how to conduct this test of hypothesis. We seek to determine if
two sampled populations, females and males, have the same mean (arithmetic average) wages. The
process begins with only the raw data from a 2005 wages database. As a result, the authors further
explain: The method described does not require that we know the standard deviations of the
populations (2012). For that reason, we assume the sampled populations are equal, but, the standard
deviations are unknown. Then, we use the t test as the test statistic, with 30 degrees of freedom.
Problem Statement In an online article entitled The Simple Truth About the Gender Pay Gap ,
published on the AAUW website, author Catherine Hill, PhD, had this to say: Did you know that in
2014, women working full time in the United States typically were paid just 79 percent of what men
were paid, a gap of 21 percent? The gap has narrowed since the 1970s, due largely to women s

Radon Essay
Radon
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive element that can be found in soil, underground water, and
outdoor air. Some of the properties of this gas include being odorless, tasteless, and colorless. The
concentrations vary throughout the country depending on the types of rocks that are found in the soil.
Exposure over prolonged periods of time to radon decay products has been associated with an
increased risk of lung cancer.(3) The EPA describes an elevated concentration as being at or above
their suggested guidelines of 4pCi/l
(pico Curies per liter, used as a radiation unit of measure for radon).
Exposures below this level may create a risk of lung cancer, farther reductions to lower levels may be

Uranium and its by products of decay, namely radon are abundant and are constantly being generated.
(13) Radon is capable of easily traveling through rocks and soil.(14) The gas is also found dissolved in
water, due to decay in the soil or rock below.(15)
Radon in Water
The risk from radon in water is much lower than the risk from radon in air. This is because the water
must be heated or agitated to release the gas.
This can happen in a shower, boiling water on a stove, or by using a washing machine. Most public
water supplies don t present a radon risk, this is because the water is aerated at the treatment site and
the gas escapes into the atmosphere. Most water that contains hazardous amounts of radon comes
from wells. Wells should be tested for radon if the building that they are supplying contains hazardous
amounts in the air. The testing procedures for water are different from those used on air.(16)
Water containing radon can usually be treated. The most effective treatment is to remove radon from
the water before it enters the home, this is called point of entry treatment. Water can also be treated at
the tap, this is known as point of use treatment. However this treatment is much less effective at
removing the risk.(17)
Radon Entry
Radon travels through the ground and into the air, allowing the gas to easily enter buildings and
homes.

voltage across the split capacitors and Total harmonic distortion. The necessary calculations for
generation of PWM for the two modulation strategies have presented in detail. It is observed that the
unipolar modulation ensures excellent, close to optimized pulse distribution results but THD is high
compared to SVPWM. Theoretical investigations were confirmed by the digital simulations using

Essay on Reader Response Criticism to God s Determinations
Reader Response Criticism to God s Determinations
For the reader demanding either rational sense or aesthetic pleasure from poetry, reading the preface to
Edward Taylor s God s Determinations is humbling in ways unintended by the 17th century Puritan
minister and poet. Rationality per se seems rejected at the start, where we are asked first to
comprehend Infinity, and then to envision it (everything) beholding all things (also everything).
Things get no clearer as we progress, as we find whatever infinity beholds in not everything but
nothing, and that nothing itself to become the building material for all. Identifying the paradox,
perhaps, as that which begins the Biblical account of the Creation, ... Show more content on

Granted, logical incoherence might not trouble the reader demanding beauty from a poem, but even
the poem s most vivid images rocks, rivers, curtains, a bright gem of some unmentioned size and color
don t offer nearly the delectable view found in a poem of Taylor s contemporary Anne Bradstreet.
Although Taylor certainly meant to humble his reader in the preface to his long poem, he certainly did
not have a modern rationalist or aesthete audience in mind when he wrote it. His intended readers
were rather his parishioners, 17th century Puritan men and women for whom poetry was more a
rhetorical than an aesthetic exercise, and for whom God s ways were understood to be inscrutable
what we might call irrational to the sons of Adam. Part of a people who left for the New World in
order to enjoy a more perfect relation with their God, now in a third generation Taylor s audience was
beginning to forget what was for an orthodox Puritan their proper place among all things. God s
Determinations was Taylor s way to remind his readers of that place.
Taylor begins his poem by limning the first verses of Genesis, but from line 3 to line 19, nearly half
the poem, he asks questions questions which amplify God s physical might and unimaginable power
while they invite readers to remind themselves of a time (before their recent lapse in faith) when they
had evinced a more proper respect for that power. In this sense, the very senselessness of Taylor s

Black Theater By William Henry Brown
1.) During 1821 and 1926 Black Theater is determined in two different definitions. The first definition
for Black Theater came about in 1821, and in Manhattan by the American Grove Theater founded by
William Henry Brown. The definition for black theater was created by African Americans, for African
American audience and about topics that are important to the African American community. At this
point in time, African Americans were enslaved throughout America. African Americans did not have
much rights, so the definition created by African Americans was significant to show that they have a
voice too, for African American audience and about topics that are important to the African American
community can be depicted so that African Americans could rise up and overcome the Slavery system.
This definition could have been geared towards African Americans being hopeful or having something
to be happy about. Most significantly, for all African Americans coming together to see these
playwrights would educate black people and hopefully inspire them to create better lives for
themselves together. Slavery and racial discrimination towards blacks has to be the most that
contributed to this definition.
The other definition was created in 1926 by W.E.B Du Bois through the Krigwa players in Harlem.
This definition for black theater was for, by, about, near us. The Harlem Renaissance Movement is
taking place during this time and contributes to the change in definition. The Harlem

Operation Underground Railroad Analysis
Based on the U.S. State Department s reports around 600,000 to 800,000 people are being trafficked
across international borders every year as of 2005 (PBS). These numbers need to change, and there are
multiple organizations trying to make a change, it is possible for these numbers to change drastically
with the help of social media. If activist and organizations could use social media effectively, social
and economic issues would change drastically. Despite the fact that Operation Underground Railroad
uses social media , the activist Laurie Holden, and the organization itself does not seem to incite its
audience to get actively involved in the cause because it does not give much direction for how, where,
or when to take action. Operation Underground Railroad was founded in 2013 by Tim Ballard who
was a former CIA agent. Operation Underground Railroad is a non profit organization designed to

Akindele ETEC 562 Social Technology and the Sociocultural Aspects of Learning 2016/10/03 Dr. Giuliana Cucinelli Street Traffic, Safety, and Accidents Roads are the backbone and essential modes of transportation, providing many different supports for human civilization. Among the early and inexpensive technologies available for developing comprehensive traffic, management proposals are Road capacity, traffic sign (i.e. pavement markings, road sign, etc.), Guard rails, cross marking etc traffic calming, vehicle parking regulations and controls, pedestrian measures, accident reduction programs, Bus priority measures. As technology evolved, application of Intelligent Traffic System (ITS) was introduced. (Olaogbebikan J. E et al. 2013). Street lighting also improves safety for drivers, riders, and pedestrians. They concluded that on average the presence of street lighting reduces the severity of injuries by a factor of 3. Intelligent transportation systems (ITS) are advanced applications which, without embodying intelligence as such, aim to provide innovative services relating to different modes of transport and traffic management and enable various users to be better informed and make safer, more coordinated, and smarter use of transport networks. Roadways are, unfortunately, the scene where preventable urban fatalities take place. Pedestrians unknowingly crossing busy streets; drivers distracted by their phones; ... The Government has caused many of these incidents such as people being tortured in prisons just because the officers have the authority to. Although all of these problems happened because Panama doesn t have a president. They have a dictator and the dictator just uses the army to stop the Panamanian people to revolt against their leader. The dictator of Panama has allowed members of the army to go into prisons and if any of the prisoners are acting up, use force to stop them. But those members in the army take advantage and beat the prisoners severely. That s breaking their human rights but they people of Panama can t do or say anything or else ... But many of these journalists are being denied to go into the country and some of them are allowed into the country but they aren t allowed to meeting that the dictator will have with other officials. It happened in other countries as well and progressed its way to Panama. This summer, Bertoni submitted a report to the inter American Commission on Human Rights documenting a program run by the Colombian government to protect journalists. The report said hundreds of journalists had benefited from the program but that it needed more political support and a larger budget. (Boustany). Other countries were having the same problem with journalists going into the country when they are allowed to, then they are just denied and left with no information. Other countries such as Argentina and Chile are discussing about making same laws for the journalists and how they can prevent form their human rights being violated. Civil society is responsible for these new laws. All we did was advocate it and give support while the process was underway. (Boustany). Society is the cause for this because people such as the dictator, make sure that these things don t happen and then the government has to try to make laws for the dictator to ... • 4. Persuasive Essay On Eugenics A lot of people have not heard of Eugenics because of the dark past in the history of not only the United States but also across Europe. What does it mean to have a perfect world? Back in the 1920s they had an idea to create a world that only included a certain idea of whom the best type of people were. This may sound like an interesting idea but the price of our own human decency was taken in which human life did not mean the same for everyone. Most people are unaware of what Eugenics is because it is not a proud point in the United States, so it does not get taught or talked about very often. Eugenics started in the late 1800 s. A man named, Sir Francis Galton was the first person to use the word eugenics. The word eugenics means, the science of improving a human population by controlled breeding to increase the occurrence of desirable heritable characteristics. (Eugenics) For a while Eugenics was just an idea of how to perfect the human population. The ideas were put into books and then analyzed scientifically, but in a way that was biased and unreliable. The Supreme Court put a law in place called, Buck V. Bell, which supported the obligatory sterilization of people that would be seen as unfit in our society. This law was put in place in the year of 1927 and was reprimanded in 1942. Although in some places it still goes on today illegally. The science of Eugenics was not based on personality but rather on physical and mental traits. They made assumptions rather ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. What Makes Antonio Gaudi Innovator That s what makes Antonio Gaudí an innovator of the time. That s what makes him different from his contemporanean and the rest of architects, that he sees architecture as a game of imagination and creation, while the others stack to the classical idea of architecture, to the lineal shapes and the perfection of the simple. His radical conception of architecture still fascinates us nowadays, and we still admire his whole work. Gaudí was a pioneer, too modern for his time, innovator on work processes, and creator of new architectonic shapes. A creator inventor innovator that made an inimitable style, and that gifted us with a legacy applicable nowadays to multiple disciplines, from ergonomic design to empresarial management. Antonio Gaudí is, under Santiago Calatrava s point of view, an example of architectonical innovation just by mixing a singular talent with a solid technical formation. Gaudí , he says, is a big artist by himself. His work can be understand in the context of catalan modernism, but he really is a big personality that emerges on the XXth century. ... In a Spain where Primo de Rivera, a conservative dictator, was gaining more and more power and few years later, in 1923, would reach the government, we can imagine how extremely conservative the classes were. In Barcelona, in 1902, there was a massive protest by the anarchists, that wanted a far more liberal Spain. • 7. Compare And Contrast Maol Pot And Mao Zedong Pol Pot and Mao Zedong committed horrendous acts of genocide. Both are leaders of their country and are merciless when it comes to gaining, and or controlling power. Pol Pot was a leader of the Khmer Rouge and committed the Cambodia genocide. Mao Zedong was the leader of China and he committed the Great Chinese Famine. Both countries were communist; Cambodia became a communist country after it was taken over by the Khmer Rouge. Both Pol Pot and Mao Zedong were fearless leaders who would give the order to commit violence. Pol Pot played a role in mass violence in Cambodia with the Khmer Rouge. While taking over Cambodia, people were relocated, starved, and executed. The total death toll of the Cambodian genocide was around 2 million. Mao Zedong was perhaps the biggest advocate for mass violence. His plan, the Great Leap Forward, was a plan in which farmers would report higher agricultural gains than in reality. This would bring about a deficit within China and many people would soon start to starve and die from starvation. After the Great China Famine, the Cultural Revolution and Red Guards came into play. Red Guards roamed the cities and humiliated, persecuted, and or killed enemies of the state. Pol Pot s justification for mass violence was that he wanted to create an agrarian utopia. Pol Pot wanted complete control, so he would execute anyone who would oppose him. Anyone that may have been thought as a threat towards a revolution was also killed, such as educated people. ... • 9. The Differences Of The Brer Rabbit, By Alan Mcdonald This essay could be compared with the African American folk story Brer rabbit and tar baby. This story is basically about a Brer fox who detested the Brer rabbit for bossing everyone around. The Brer fox only wanted to kill the Brer rabbit and end the infuriating behavior caused by it. One day the Brer fox made a Tar baby to trick the Brer rabbit. The Brer rabbit then finally stumbled across the treacherous trap. It tried talking and mingling with the tar baby but had got no response. Tar baby is a non living object made of clammy tar. The non response from the tar baby started to annoy the Brer rabbit. Hence the Brer rabbit starts to punch the tar baby. This made the Brer rabbit unpleasantly stick on the tar baby. The Brer rabbit was unable to escape this trap. Brer rabbit could represent something or someone who could put himself/herself into a tight spot by making an unwise assumption and then behaving in a rash manner. In the essay by Annie Dillard, Alan McDonald could be the Brer rabbit. His actions may have been impulsive. He could have probably avoided his predicament. Compare the effectiveness of the survey research to the other subordinate data, experimentation or observation in the perspective of gathering information for this project. The type of survey that the Remington Restaurant used was the self administered Internet survey. This kind of survey is probably the cheapest survey for the person collecting data. It involves minimum personnel and low cost as compared with other methods. Since 73% of American households are actively using the Internet, an Internet survey would be the best idea to cover a large location fact while conserving energy, money, and time (Cooper, Schindler, 2008). Internet survey s can also give one access to graphs, charts and percentages automatically. Also, the Internet survey will be able to give one an idea of the customer s attitude and perception of the Remington s Restaurant. By using secondary information one would be able to see general information such as, what the demographic is of the average family is in the area, what is the general income, and how many times the family eats at restaurant in a week. By shifting the focus off of the Remington s Restaurant and on to the genre of restaurants the Remington s Restaurant is associated with would dilute the information the Remington s Restaurant wanted to know about their customer s satisfaction with the Remington s Restaurant. ... Stereotypes In The Outsiders By SE Hinton In the Out Siders written by SE Hinton, set in the 1960 s, is a novel focused on Two Stereotypical youth gangs, the greasers (east side people who are poor), and the Socs (Westside people who are rich). SE Hinton has included many themes throughout the novel, as the story develops around youth conflict between these two stereotypical youth sides, and how a death could mean so much to both. This is shown as SE Hinton communicates the themes, Stereotypes, family, and empathy throughout The Outsiders . Stereotypes are a common theme in the outsiders, SE Hinton shows this in the novel as Ponyboy refers to the term greasers , (chapter one page three) He continues which is used to class all us boys on the east side ... we re poorer than the socs this indicates that the characters in the outsiders were classed upon money, showing us that SE Hinton is trying to show the theme stereotypes. ... • 12. The Scarcity Of Food Scarcity During the late 1700s, food scarcity was not an issue, for the population was not as large as today, which is over seven billion people. I would not be worrying about a food crisis or starvation unless a man like Thomas Malthus came along and spread rumors that it could happen, especially if it is in our future. Since people were first exposed to that idea during Malthus time, it is reasonable why people would stress about it instantly. Nobody knows when food scarcity could happen. All they know is that it is eminent with regards to Malthus claims that the population is growing rapidly, and food production will reach its peak. These are issues that need to be considered by farmers, scientists, and agricultural institutions. The Earth s land is a precious resource, because it sustains the food we need to live. Without land, there is no place to grow food, and without food, human survival is unlikely. Taking care of the land is a lifetime job, and all involved in agriculture need to do their job to sustain the resource and spread the message to future generations. Doing so will allow the land to continue flourishing, thus maintain the food supply. An overgrowing population, food scarcity, and land maintenance are some of the problems discussed in food politics, but another issue that is relevant today is high international food prices. After the year 2000, several economic crisis took place worldwide, leading countries to close or implement higher taxes on exported food. As a result, nations secured their domestic markets, but international food prices rose shortly. To deal with the dilemma, country leaders should consult with each about ways to manage the market during financial crisis. Some countries rely on exported food to sustain their livestock and population, so an increase in food prices could force dependent nations to buy less food and sacrifice some of their livestock, or worse, their people. The reality is that people are already pushed toward sacrifice. Almost a billion people worldwide are malnourished and close to death. No one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Steak broke both of the professor s legs with a high heeled shoe and a two by four he found in a nearby gully. There was still more pugilism to follow Col. • 20. When The Housing Market Collapse When the housing market collapse occurred I was much younger and not fully aware or advised of how serious the situation really was. Several of my family members owned homes then, but looking back now they sheltered their children from the situation completely. I realized still to this day I do not know how or what they were doing to get through the market collapse but I realize my situation could have been much worse. Now years later I am faced with the decision to buy a home someday like many in my generation and those looking to buy property again. But just like a growing society its citizens must learn from previous mistakes made in order to avoid the same outcomes and flourish. Here are just some of the lessons we must learn from: First you must do your own research. If you are seriously looking for a home look into everything you can think of and then research some more. If you have a partner then you will be able to expand your research with two different points of views and get more results. Don t depend on Wall Street and their outlooks for the future because in reality it is a game of chances. Just because someone says jump off a bridge into shallow water because you won t drown would you do it? The people on Wall Street and those in charge (unless psychic) can t predict the future. Another lesson learned: Mortgage debt is real debt and must be paid eventually. A lot of home owners would refinance their homes for extra cash but you can t do that forever. ... Topics like sexuality, explicit language, and substance use that are present in multiple pieces of literature are some of the many things that will have a book be considered for banning. Looking For Alaska by John Green is one of those challenged books. Although it may include sexual scenes and explicit language,it is a book that should not be banned because of its relatable characters and important themes. Miles Halter is a teenage boy that wants something exciting to happen, I was after a Great Perhaps... (Green 5). This is prominent when Chip and Miles are arguing and Chip says, You don t even care about her! All that matters is you and your precious f**cking fantasy that you and Alaska had this godd**ned secret love affair.. (Green 170). Would they find any places where they might agree? If not, why not? (These are, after all, smart guys!) Though this sort of meeting would strike me as a debate with as furiously disparate and uncompromising ideals as one would find in a meeting of Andrew Weil, Jerry Falwell, and David Duke, I expect that the philosophers would find some surprisingly common ground. Although Descartes claims of the body s necessary existence follows from the cogito if the mind exists, then it must exist in contrast to other, external things I presume that both Spinoza and Leibniz would take the opportunity to point out that Descartes presupposes the existence of the god that necessarily created his body and mind before speculating on whether or not his body and mind exist. Nice claim, bad explanation. Spinoza s staunch, pantheistic monist view of the world establishes that the mind and body are not separate entities in themselves, but only two of an infinite amount of attributes of the same and only substance in existence God. One can relate this reasoning to two attributes of a red hot poker red and hot. Does this entail that red and hot are always dependent on a poker and that they are in essence the same thing? Although this is not a likely conclusion, Spinoza raises the important question of how far we can analytically separate parts of a world that are always interacting with each other. Try getting a metal poker to glow red without heating it, or heating a poker without eventually having it glow red. This is improbable, albeit possible in theory. The mind and body may be two separately identifiable things, but one will more than likely find the two cooperating with each other as attributes of the natural world. Such cooperation ... So much so that the stump speeches, for both former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, and senator, Bernie Sanders, always include this issue. Since the 1960s, congress and many researchers have tested this theory. In order to affirm the validity of this message, we will perform a five step hypothesis test. In the book, Statistical Techniques in Business Economics, authors D. Lind, W. Marchal S. Wathen (2012), describe how to conduct this test of hypothesis. We seek to determine if two sampled populations, females and males, have the same mean (arithmetic average) wages. The process begins with only the raw data from a 2005 wages database. As a result, the authors further explain: The method described does not require that we know the standard deviations of the populations (2012). For that reason, we assume the sampled populations are equal, but, the standard deviations are unknown. Then, we use the t test as the test statistic, with 30 degrees of freedom. Problem Statement In an online article entitled The Simple Truth About the Gender Pay Gap , published on the AAUW website, author Catherine Hill, PhD, had this to say: Did you know that in 2014, women working full time in the United States typically were paid just 79 percent of what men were paid, a gap of 21 percent? (13) Radon is capable of easily traveling through rocks and soil.(14) The gas is also found dissolved in water, due to decay in the soil or rock below.(15) Radon in Water The risk from radon in water is much lower than the risk from radon in air. This is because the water must be heated or agitated to release the gas. This can happen in a shower, boiling water on a stove, or by using a washing machine. Most public water supplies don t present a radon risk, this is because the water is aerated at the treatment site and the gas escapes into the atmosphere. Most water that contains hazardous amounts of radon comes from wells. Wells should be tested for radon if the building that they are supplying contains hazardous amounts in the air. The testing procedures for water are different from those used on air.(16) Water containing radon can usually be treated. The most effective treatment is to remove radon from the water before it enters the home, this is called point of entry treatment. Water can also be treated at the tap, this is known as point of use treatment. However this treatment is much less effective at removing the risk.(17) Radon Entry Radon travels through the ground and into the air, allowing the gas to easily enter buildings and homes. ... Essay on Reader Response Criticism to God s Determinations Reader Response Criticism to God s Determinations For the reader demanding either rational sense or aesthetic pleasure from poetry, reading the preface to Edward Taylor s God s Determinations is humbling in ways unintended by the 17th century Puritan minister and poet. Rationality per se seems rejected at the start, where we are asked first to comprehend Infinity, and then to envision it (everything) beholding all things (also everything). Granted, logical incoherence might not trouble the reader demanding beauty from a poem, but even the poem s most vivid images rocks, rivers, curtains, a bright gem of some unmentioned size and color don t offer nearly the delectable view found in a poem of Taylor s contemporary Anne Bradstreet. Although Taylor certainly meant to humble his reader in the preface to his long poem, he certainly did not have a modern rationalist or aesthete audience in mind when he wrote it. His intended readers were rather his parishioners, 17th century Puritan men and women for whom poetry was more a rhetorical than an aesthetic exercise, and for whom God s ways were understood to be inscrutable what we might call irrational to the sons of Adam. Part of a people who left for the New World in order to enjoy a more perfect relation with their God, now in a third generation Taylor s audience was beginning to forget what was for an orthodox Puritan their proper place among all things. God s Determinations was Taylor s way to remind his readers of that place. Taylor begins his poem by limning the first verses of Genesis, but from line 3 to line 19, nearly half the poem, he asks questions questions which amplify God s physical might and unimaginable power while they invite readers to remind themselves of a time (before their recent lapse in faith) when they had evinced a more proper respect for that power. The first definition for Black Theater came about in 1821, and in Manhattan by the American Grove Theater founded by William Henry Brown. The definition for black theater was created by African Americans, for African American audience and about topics that are important to the African American community. At this point in time, African Americans were enslaved throughout America. This definition could have been geared towards African Americans being hopeful or having something to be happy about. Most significantly, for all African Americans coming together to see these playwrights would educate black people and hopefully inspire them to create better lives for themselves together. Slavery and racial discrimination towards blacks has to be the most that contributed to this definition.
