The Historical And Intellectual Trends
Modern Cuban culture cannot simply be defined in a singular fashion. The convergence of peoples
from multiple ethnic and cultural backgrounds, ranging from the Iberia and Italy to Africa and
China has significantly influenced the evolution of the unique culture of the Cuban population.
However, of these, it is the Spanish and African influences that have very distinctly remained,
shaping societal norms, and setting culturally artistic precedents. For Afro Cubans however, the
struggle to greater recognition of cultural influence has been enormous. Racial oppression and socio
economic disparity has been a tumultuous journey for Cubas (population of Afro Cubans) Afro

In his famous text, Cuban Counterpoint: Tobacco and Sugar, Ortiz explains how the cultures and
peoples that descended upon the island, beginning with the native Ciboney and Taino, did not
simple assume one another s culture, but converged to create completely new cultures and societal
norms (Ortiz, 99). Though sadly, the majority of these original tribes were completely eliminated
by the Spanish, they remain alive in words such as, manatee, hammock, hurricane, and tobacco
(Kronenburg, 51). However, to say that Spanish and African peoples descended upon Cuba would
be misleading; hence the more accurate use of transculturation to describe the intersection of a
range of cultures from the Iberian Peninsula including Galicians, Basque, Portuguese, and from
western Africa including Congolese, Angolan, and Guinean (Kronenburg, 52).
Even more interesting than the etymology of Cuba s ethnic history is the implications of how
transculturation played into the historical and social construction of power dynamics in Cuba. Ortiz
states that throughout Cuban history, one culture was not only attempting to gain power and
wealth for themselves, but systematically set up a culture that disenfranchised another population;
this is seem most directly with the institution of slavery by the Spanish (Ortiz, 101). The power
dynamic created by the institution of slavery can certainly be pointed to as a

Post And Lintel Research Paper
The development of both architecture and pictures both have several creative forms that are
associated with them. The development of Post and Lintel, arches, intaglio/etching and
planographic process are a few that have interesting backgrounds. Post and Lintel is a system in
which two members, also referred to as posts, hold up a third member called the lintel. What s
interesting about Post and Lintel is that all structural openings that have been development from the
basic idea of post and lintel. The lintel must hold a majority of the weight that rests on it, as well
as, its own load without serious structural damage occurring. The type of material used is another
important factor when deciding how large the structure will be. For example,... Show more content

However, prints or printmaking is an interesting technique that can lead to creating unique
designs. The intaglio process, which has been around since the 1400s, and is still used today, is
a perfect example. This technique is one that s not talked about much and has a rather
interesting process. Intaglio can be used with a variety of different materials such as glass,
wood, and stone, but zinc seems to be the favorite. Intaglio is used in a variety of different
methods such as etching, drypoint, line engraving and aquatint. The process may seem a little
lengthy, but it s well worth the effort. A gooey black waxy material is spread all over the
material used. When it is dries, the designer scratches into it and then placed in an acid bath. The
ink is then applied and ran through a press where duplicates can be made. There are a variety of
hard grounds that can be used such as aquatint, sugar lift and spit bit. Intaglio pictures are so unique
and interesting due to the simple fact of how unique the process is. The pieces are elegant, beautiful
and permanent. Intaglio is an art that only certain people can master due to the technicality
associated with it. It requires concentration and muscle control to effectively apply even pressure

Monitoring Patients Through Telehealth Essay
Introduction Telehealth is the monitoring via remote exchange of physiological data between a
patient at home and health care professionals at hospitals or clinics to assist with diagnosis and
treatment. As our society ages and health care costs increase, government and private insurance
payers are seeking technological interventions. Technological solutions may provide high quality
healthcare services at a distance, utilize professional resources more effectively, and enable elderly
and ill patients to remain in their own homes. Patients may experience decreased hospitalization and
urgent care settings, and out of home care may not be required as the patient is monitored at home.
However, no study has been able to prove telehealth... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Diabetic patients have a chronic and complicated disease process which requires continual
monitoring. Telehealth interventions were used to assist rural obese diabetics in South Carolina
using TeleCare for one year. Patients participating in the TeleCare trial had better reductions in
glycated hemoglobin and significant reductions in LDL cholesterol levels at 6 and 12 months than
those receiving conventional interventions (Davis et al., 2010). Four factors that contributed to
TeleCare being successful were high participation retention, modification of materials for cultural
competency, coordinating administrative functions with the primary care centers, and personalized
interactions during group education sessions via video conferencing (Davis et al., 2010, p. 3).
While rural diabetics may have additional limitations and distances to travel in order to receive
medical care, all diabetics are in need of prompt treatment changes to maximize blood glucose
control. Chang et al (2007) evaluated different forms of telehealth delivery among veteran diabetic
patients. Some participants interacted with nurse practitioners via internet telehealth systems for
daily blood glucose monitoring and symptom evaluation. Other participants chose telephone
intervention interaction with nurse practitioners to report blood glucose levels and diabetes
symptoms. No significant reduction in glycated

A Weekly Training Session 1 Embargo Sanctions
Weekly Training Session 1 Sanctions
In today s training session we will be focusing on the sanctions regimes our international bank must
consider when carrying out its global business including the implications of extra territoriality. We
will also examine the consequences of failing to comply with sanctions.
What are the sanctions regimes our international bank must consider?
Firstly, we all need to be clear on what sanctions regimes are and how they are set out. Financial
and Trade Sanctions are part of a package of measures applied by individual countries, International
Organisations or Regional Bodies to fight aggression, terrorism, criminal behaviour or violations of
human rights. These Sanctions measures are intended to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

financial sanctions regime (UN Security Council resolution or EU regulation) whereby we must not

The Aircraft Wings Are The Primary Lift Producing Device...
The aircraft wings are the primary lift producing device for an aircraft. The aircraft wings are
designed aerodynamically to generate a lift force which is required in order for an aircraft to fly.
The basic goal of the wing is to generate lift and minimize drag as far as possible.
When the airflow passes the wing at any suitable angle of attack, a pressure differential is created.
A region of lower pressure is created over the top surface of the wing while, a region of higher
pressure is created under the surface of the wing. This difference in pressure creates a differential
force which acts upward, which is called lift.
For most aircrafts, where, the wings are the primary structures to generate lift, the aircraft s wings
must generate sufficient lift to carry the entire weight of an aircraft. In modern commercial, fighter
and jet aircraft, the aircraft wings are not only designed to provide the necessary lift during the
different phases of flight, but also have a variety of other roles and functions.
Wing Support:
Cantilevered All the structure is buried under the aerodynamic skin, giving a clean appearance with
low drag.
A cantilever is a rigid structural element, such as a beam or a plate, anchored at only one end to a
(usually vertical) support from which it is protruding. When subjected to a structural load, the
cantilever carries the load to the support where it is forced against by a moment and shear
stress.Cantilever construction allows for overhanging

Bribery
Research Methodology
Title
A study of the effect of bribery and corruption with lack of censorship in the governmental
institution
There are various reasons why corruption takes place and takes hold. Sometimes it is due to the
fact that officials are simply not paid very much and so they need to supplement their salaries
with money from bribes. Sometimes the bureaucratic system is set up in such a way that officials
simply refuse to carry out their duties unless they are encouraged by being offered bribes. In
other cases it is actually part of the tradition and culture of a country to give and receive gifts in
order to get anything done. In some cases companies from less corrupt countries allegedly engage
in bribery in order ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mostly, corruption occurs in environments where it is tolerated and where the temptation is too
strong to resist. In the following paragraph there are some examples of how bribes take place in
each and every one of them. The enormous scale of grand corruption in Peru was revealed in
2000 by discoveries leading to the resignation and self exile of the president, Alberto Fujimori.
Video taped evidence showed that Vladimir Montesano s, Fujimori s spy chief, had repeatedly
bribed congressmen to defect to Fujimori s party to ensure its majority in congress. In addition,
large bribes had enabled Montesano s to control most of the media and influence the judiciary.
However, Fujimori is credited with having reduced petty corruption. His administration pursued
policies reducing the role of government, which he justified not only on efficiency grounds, but on
the grounds that reducing the role of government would reduce opportunities for corruption. He
attempted to reduce corruption in the police and municipal governments, in the latter case by
establishing a supervisory agency to field citizen complaints. However, his reforms of the
judiciary are thought to have made it more corrupt. Despite some progress, however, several
institutions with which ordinary people have much contact were judged to be corrupt by
Transparency International in a November 2001 report. ast week did not begin well for Siemens

War: Like Hell on Earth
Wilfred Owens, an English poet and soldier, is well known for his poems about war. Born in
1983, Owens took the front line of the army by 1916. When asked why he decided to enlist
Owens replied, I came out in order to help these boys directly by leading them as well as an
officer can; indirectly, by watching their sufferings that I may speak of them as well as a
pleader can ( Poet Wilfred Owen Killed in Action ). He used his experiences in the army and on
the battlefields to write descriptive and powerful poems. One of Owen s most famous poems,

How Does Katherine Mansfield Use Direct Characterization...
In Miss Brill, Katherine Mansfield uses indirect characterization to demonstrate how loneliness
can distort a person s perception of the world and leave one vulnerable when confronting the
truth. The reader is first introduced to Miss Brill while she is at the Jardins Publiques for her
Sunday routine. While at the park, she reminisces about her fur, [taking] it out of its box that
afternoon...and [rubbing] the life back into the dim little eyes. One might initially perceive
Miss Brill as a quirky, yet cheery, woman. However, by having Miss Brill address the fur as Dear
little thing and emphasizing her recurring need to touch and stroke it, Mansfield reveals a
deeper, more genuine layer to Miss Brill s character. By observing Miss Brill s character
indirectly, the reader notices the more obscure details, such as the absence of an intimate relation
in Miss Brill s life, and concludes that she is incredibly lonesome. Her solitude provokes a constant
need to make her life more... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Miss Brill remarks how the woman s hair, face and even her eyes, [are] the same colour as the
shabby ermine and that the ermine toque was alone. The reader can recognize the way Miss Brill
and the woman are mirror images: Miss Brill s fur and the woman s toque, the woman being
rejected and Miss Brill s loneliness. Even though she notices the specifics of the woman, Miss Brill
does not display any awareness regarding the similarities between them. Through indirect
characterization, the reader may discern that Miss Brill is preventing herself from consciously
empathizing with the woman. She has a world in her mind where she is happy with observing the
lives of others. When a truthful image threatens to tarnish her creation, she rejects that notion. She
does not want to acknowledge the real world, a world where she is lonely and

Essay On Transformational Leaders
Some think shiny jets like the F 22 Raptor or the F 35 Lightning II make the United States Air
Force (USAF) the best in the world. I don t. The USAF as we know it wouldn t even exist if it
wasn t for transformational leaders. We, by we I mean Airmen, tend to think of ourselves as
employed in a technical occupation, turning wrenches or pushing buttons or adding up figures.
But we are in the Service of Ideas, ideas like man can fly and air superiority is critical to national
defense. But flying itself didn t create an air force. Having the idea that mastery of the Wild Blue
Yonder would make the United States(US) militarythe best and most lethal in the world, and that
the US Army did not fully appreciate that idea, was a job only a transformational leader could
accomplish.
But what is a transformational leader? What impact do they have? What are their characteristics?
Clearly their impact can be as great as leading the way towards the greatest fighting force man has
ever known. Their characteristics can be subtler but are just as important as the ideas they advocate.
The fights in Washington D.C. can be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Or even first, depending on who you ask, because we like to think our thinking separates us from

Expansion To The Great Plains
1.The reasons for the rapid expansion to the Great Plains can be partially drawn from the historical
context. In the early 19th century, many Americans had struggled enough to live in the city and to
compete with others. They wished to expand the settlement to find a new excitement, or the new
opportunities, which many of them thought was granted by God, the Manifest Destiny. 2. On June
6, some 3000 Lakota camped to do the sacred ritual as the preparation for the war coming up.
Praying and vowing, Sitting Bull, the Lakota s leader, voluntarily signed up for the sacrifice and
envisioned a great triumph over the American Soldier. Such evoking ceremony aroused passions
hidden inside of the worriers, manipulating them to look for someone to fight. After an unexpected
attack, the Lakota warriors celebrated their victory along a little bighorn river. Sitting Bull, again,
prayed for the protection of his people.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Custer spotted a Lakota village far away. Without knowing anything about the village, he thinks
that the tribe s people must have been fleeing away, and if he does not attack right now, he will

a similar situation, so he recklessly commanded to push and attack and promise to his soldiers that

Rate of Juvenile Offenses and the Juvenile Justice System
Palm Beach County, Fla. On May 26, 2000, 13 year old Nathaniel Brazill shot his teacher, Barry
Grunow, with a .25 caliber handgun in school. Palm Beach County prosecutors tried Brazill as
an adult for first degree murder. The jury found Brazill guilty of second degree murder and the
judge sentenced him to 28 years in an adult facility. After his release, Brazill will face two years
of house arrest and five years of probation. (Klug) Does this sentence appear too severe, or
perhaps too tolerant? Without understanding all of the specifics involved in the case, it may be
harder to conclude what would be the best thing to do with 13 year old Brazill. What exact details

One of the main factors that cause the complexity is that with each approach come certain
doctrines on the differences between juveniles and adults; but more importantly, how these
dissimilarities should affect legal policies. It will be up to voters, legislators, and groups to
conclude what steps we will take to curb the growing tendency of juvenile misdeed and
aggression. Imagining juvenile delinquents as our own younger siblings, or possibly our own
children gone astray will help us to make the strong conclusions engaged in treating juvenile
delinquents. As school students, we are the next generation of voters, legislators, and public
leaders. In alignment for us to make the best conclusions for troubled adolescents we must be
acquainted of the numerous ways we can go about handling juvenile delinquents. Each method
of treatment is quite perplexed so we must take care to realize the issues to the fullest possible
span. To double check that juvenile delinquents are being treated fairly, we must make our
conclusions with as much concern for their well being as we can, as well as keeping in mind the
best concerns of humanity. As voters, we can start to form policies in the ways we see fit for
battling juvenile offenses and aggression. Perhaps some of our own preferred procedures for
treating young kids are echoed in the current outlooks of the public in the direction of

black community and how they are treated by authority and civilians. One of the lines that he raps

boy viciously murdered by a white man. Another line that hits home with a lot of his fans is the
line, cops bustin down the door with army guns no evidence of the harm we done, this line referring
to the treatment of blacks throughout the country by police officers. I feel that this song really
speaks out about the current situation we are dealing with in this country with lingering racism and
inequality. The Montgomery Bus Boycott starter in 1964

The Importance Of The Statue Of Liberty
Annually, approximately four million people will visit the Statue of Liberty (Productions, Mixit).
The monument holds many meanings; a symbol of Franco American alliance, freedom, and liberty
(LLC, Shea Media.). Lady Liberty, and many other monuments, are held in high regard and beloved
by the American people. But how did this monument, and others, come to be? The idea of
monumentalizing an event or person isn t as straightforward as it sounds. While some people may
think the process is easy, many factors need to be taken into consideration. There are four main
factors that should be considered in the process of building a monument: The worthiness of the
event or person being considered for monumentalization, the location of the proposed monument,
and the materials and process of making the monument.
Arguably, the most important aspect of creating a monument is the worthiness of the person or
event in consideration of becoming a monument. While it is hypothetically possible to create a
monument to anything, some of the nation s greatest monuments, including the Martin Luther
King Jr. Memorial, 9/11 Memorial, and the Lincoln Memorial, were created because the subjects
were carefully vetted and deemed worthy. It is hard to find a citizen of the United States that feels
the 9/11 attacks do not deserve a memorial, however, there are many monuments today that are up
for debate, and most likely should ve had more consideration of the subject before they were
erected. Recent

1. What caused the change in HR with exercise? Muscles use more oxygen and glucose from the
blood with increased movement. This produces wastes that decrease blood pH below the normal
range causing an increase in heart rate. The heart rate increase delivers blood to the lungs and
kidneys more quickly so these organs can remove the wastes from the body. The faster the muscles
use energy and create waste, the faster the heart must pump blood. 2. Discuss the effect of venous

He wants to convey that even the transposition of heads will not liberate the protagonists from
the psychological limits posed by nature. Both the Vetal Panchavimshati and Somdeva s
Brihtkatha Saritsagara basically retell the same tale of the transposition of the heads. Only
certain characters and places have been given fresh names in the latter. In both these folktales,
there is a woman, her husband and her brother and the transposition of heads takes place
between husband and brother. This adds an element of incest in the play which has been done
away with by Mann in his re telling of the folktale. Karnad, in Hayavadana, goes a step further
ahead. Through these folktales, Karnad deals with the problem of human identity in a world of
tangled relationships, with the theme of incompleteness and man s desire for perfection. He
seemingly felt that incest was not vital to the theme of his play and like Mann does away with
it. In an interview, Karnad says that he avoided the theme of incest because he wanted to write a
comedy and the theme of incest would have been too grim for a light hearted play. In Mann as in
Karnad, the two men whose heads are transposed are friends. Karnad makes significant departures
from Mann s story and adds a sub plot to the original tale, which was his own invention and which
served to reiterate the theme of the quest of perfection of the primary plot. Hayavadana has two
plots the first is the

The debate of the true authorship of Shakespeare is one that has been argued for centuries. While
there are various theories to suggest that William Shakespeare, the man from Stratford on Avon was
not the true author of the plays produced within his lifetime, one theory in particular seems to hold
the most concrete evidence. The authorship theory about Edward de Vere, Seventeenth Earl of
Oxford seems to have the most historical evidence proving that he is the writer of the plays and
sonnets under the pseudonym William Shakespeare. Looking at DeVere s personal life, one can see
how his social status and access to higher education would have made it more credible for him to
have written such literary masterpieces. Various circumstances of historical fact found about de
Vere s life are mirrored in the circumstances and relationships found within the works of
Shakespeare. The rich settings in which many of the plays are set include traditional and
historical details that could not have been available to anyone who did not travel to these places
themselves. Lastly many of the biblical passages and allusions found in the work of
Shakespeare are also found in the Bible that de Vere had his personal marks. There are too many
historical facts found about DeVere that coincide with the plays of Shakespeare that cannot be
brushed aside as coincidence. This essay will aim to show how these historical facts lead to solid
proof that Edward DeVere was in fact the true author of the works

Human Trafficking Is The Modern Slavery
When forced into sex trafficking statistics state that 67 percent of prisoners are forced into labor,
55 percent are women and girls, and 26 percent are children that endure the conditions and
harshness of this generation s modern slavery. Human trafficking is the modern slavery throughout
the globe and 27,000 cases have been reported to the NHTRC hotline in the last eight years alone
(Human Trafficking). Human trafficking is of all ages, all genders, and anyone can be forced into
the labor. There are some movies that shine light on this topic, Taken for example seems to be
one of the closest movies to the ongoings of sex trafficking. Two women were taken from their
vacation and one of the girls fathers goes after her and tries to track her down. We saw from the
beginning how the young man, who was to abduct them, was able to learn where they lived, that
they were tourist, and that they were alone with a whole floor to themselves. It was an easy catch
and the two ladies did not even know what they had done by sprouting what they thought was
harmless information. Women are seen as weak and property, we can see this through out social
media, even though there is talk of equality amongst men and women in this generation it is clear
that women are mere objects amongst a large group of men.
Human trafficking is a by far one of the cruelest acts, yet not until 2003 was it established as a type
type A felony (Children: Not for Sale). Minors under the age of 18 years forced

The Club Licensing And Financial Fair Play Regulations
Introduction
With UEFA bringing in the FFP rules in European football has caused a major confusion and
Havoc in the world of football. From company directors, to journalists and representatives of
Clubs, interpretation and understanding of the FFP has led them to spend a lot of resources in
order to gain knowledge about the rules set up. While the rules of FFP and its guidelines are
openly available to the general public, there are large amounts of information which have been
provided only to football clubs. The research done on the subject is of information that was
available only from 2009 to the present date. Throughout this chapter, speaks about the reasons as to
what were the main reasons that UEFA introduced the FFPR s and how they affected the clubs.
The research conducted is by some of the industry s leading analysts, from the official UEFA
website and other sources.

Mccaslin Interruptions Poem
Interruptions and the Mindful Moment: McCaslin s Interruptions
In a busy and production oriented society, interruptions are generally seen as irritating, rude and
unnecessary moments that should be avoided at all costs. However, in Interruptions , Susan
McCaslin wants the reader to consider that living in the gaps between thought and conversation, in
the interruptions of life, is how one can often see what is truly happening in the present around us.
Using the rhetorical pattern of contrast as well as direction, the unexpected, natural imagery and
words about language, McCaslin seeks to demonstrate the value of interruptions by understanding
them as the gaps in life where the opportunities for mindfulness and creativity lie.
The first stanza of McCaslin s Interruptions begins by giving the reader the direction that is the
backbone of the poem s theme: in other words, the reader must grow accustomed to the
interruptions in life so that the chance for mindfulness can occur. She then uses an unexpected
subversion and natural imagery to begin building the contrasts where the interruptions in the poem
develop. McCaslin directs the reader to Get used to them , beginning a series of commands to the
reader to accept interruptions in every day life. She subverts the idea of a traditional male
Abrahamic god, transforming the God she s discussing into a woman. This unexpected turn disrupts
the poem itself, an example of the interruptions she s heeding the reader to [g]et

My Literacy Experience
When I was young, my mom would tuck me and my siblings into bed. I shared a room with my
two sisters and my two brothers would always come into our room to hear the nightly bedtime
story. My mom or dad, depending on who was the least tired, would let us pick out a story for them
to read before we fell asleep. More than likely there was always some quarreling over whose turn it
was to choose the book. Starting off at a young age listening to stories started my literacy
experience. Once I learned to read on my own I almost always could be found reading Junie B.
Jones, Amelia Bedelia or Adventures of Cam Jansen. Once I finished all the books in the series
of Junie B. Jones, written by Barbra Parks, I started them over again. I read through the whole
series 4 times before I became disinterested. Once I stopped the easy reading books I lost interest
in reading altogether. For the next few years of my life I went without reading books other than
the ones that were required for school. I lost interest in reading, partially due to the choices of
books. I did not like the idea that I was forced to read a certain book. Until then I had only read
for fun and as a leisure activity, but now having to read for homework took the fun out of it. For

A Sunny Afternoon Of A California Bank
It s a sunny afternoon in a California bank. The air is crisp and clean, the birds are bright and
cheery, and the weather is all but perfect. Suddenly, a man bursts through the front doors, gun in
hand. He orders everyone to drop to the ground and forces the bank manager to open up the safe.
In that situation, everyone would know what to do. But what if the man had walked through the
doors in a suit, claimed to be from corporate I.T. and wanted to check the power voltage on the

Both the government and the private sector have been aware of the threat social engineering poses
to information security since the 1980s, but it has only gained public notoriety within the last
decade. Still, while today s corporations may be prepared for a raid by anonymous cyber terrorists
striking from overseas, they continue to turn a blind eye to the dangers of socially engineered
attacks. Thanks to a combination of corporate oversight and poor employee training, hackers with
zero coding knowledge are able to penetrate their secured buildings and wreak havoc. In order to
combat this vulnerability, the Department of Homeland Security should take an active role in the
operational security of major American businesses through extensive auditing and employee

Of course, this problem did not emerge overnight. Low tech attack techniques have existed long

Skeletal Muscle Contraction Report
To fully understand the mechanisms that cause graded muscle contractions, the effects of fatigue,
twitch summation, twitch recruitment, tetanus and muscle stretch on skeletal muscle were
observed. The gastrocnemius muscle of the Rana pipiens frog was used for each of the 5
experiments performed. When twitch recruitment was observed, one trial was conducted by
stimulating the sciatic nerve and the other, conducted by stimulating the skeletal muscle. The
contractile force of the muscle was increased until reaching its maximum amplitude. This occurred
at a preload of 0.37 (N) raw twitch of 0.39 (N). Optimal length was concluded to be greater than or
equal to 5.9 mm, but an exact value was not found due to limitations on stretching. Summation was
studied by decreasing inter stimulus intervals until two twitches summed together. This occurred at
100ms, the point where two twitches could no longer be differentiated. One trial was run at
different pulse intervals at 500mV to observe tetanus. Tetanus occurred... Show more content on

A motor unit is made up of one motor neuron and all the muscle fibers it has control of or
stimulates. Acetylcholine released from the motor neuron bind to nicotinic acetylcholine receptors
on skeletal muscle membranes which result in a change in permeability throughout the muscle
fiber. The change in permeability causes an action potential while rising cytosolic calcium levels
lead to a flow of events ultimately ending in a twitch or muscle contraction. Graded muscle
contractions are completed by two basic mechanisms: alteration of inter stimulus intervals between
successive action potentials and recruitment processes that control the amount of active motor units
(Raikova, 2013). These mechanisms are used to analyze the processes of twitch recruitment,
relationships between length and tension, tetanus, summation and fatigue in the skeletal

Analysis of the Film Chasing Amy Essays
Analysis of the Film Chasing Amy
Chasing Amy is a movie that uncovers the hardships we find within the confusion of love and sex
in our lives. Sometimes the line between love and sex seems almost invisible, but the differences
and complications of understanding that are quite clear in this movie. The issues presented in
Chasing Amy are directly related to the discussions of Politics of Sexuality as well as everyday
life in our culture. Our culture, in contrast to Ancient Greece, uses sexuality to characterize people
by their sexual behaviors. Other cultures view sex as a raw pleasure activity while our society has
elevated it to the expression of a person s identity and moral code. Chasing Amy contributes to this

Banky comments to Alyssa that, Everyone needs *censored*. This statement could have the typical
misogynist meaning of male dominance and female submission to them in every way. It also could
be a subconscious truth that Banky needs *censored* because he is homosexual and uses this
behavior as a front in order to over it up. This position, that he is in love with Holden, is supported
throughout the movie but Banky is too uncomfortable with his sexuality to admit the truth. Banky s
behavior masking his homosexuality is proof of what we repeated many times in class that we
question and criticize others because it cause us to question our own reality. He was
homophobic because he was uncomfortable with not fitting society s heterosexual category.
Holden is Banky s best friend but does not have the same outlook as he. Holden seems to be an
open mind individual yet he views Alyssa as a slut when he becomes aware of her past exotic,
sexual experiences, such as multiple partners. This is the typical treatment of women who are
sexually experienced with men who are too immature to deal with it. Holden cannot continue their
relationship as he judges Alyssa who is more experienced than he. He labels her as a slut to
compensate for his feelings of inadequacy. Holden pays too close attention and gives too much
significance to sex in his relationship with Alyssa. He allows his masculine

Industrialization During The 19th Century
Life in the 19th century changed rapidly due to the influences of the industrial revolution, which
lead to the mass production of goods, making products more affordable for common people.
Industrialisation lead to urbanisation and more people flocked from rural areas to towns
creating more disease, and by the end of the 1800 s 80% of the population of Britain lived in
cities. Steam powered cotton factories supplied half of the world and coal mining, in areas such
as Newcastle, expanded to meet the demands of railway construction. Ship building increased
and so did engineering. Farming was still big and machinery was easier to use and faster.
Craftsman, blacksmiths and carpenters could be found in rural areas, and lace making was a
popular industry there too. Factories were ill equipped but the conditions were bad. Children
were regularly used as they were ideal to do jobs in small spaces and for cleaning. The state took
over from the private, and law makers such as trade unions addressed and improved working
conditions, particularly child labour. The 1833 factory act improved conditions for children and
forbade factory owners from working children under 16 to work longer than 10 hours each day,
and that children under 13 years were to get at least 2 hours of education per day. There also
became a provide for inspectors. Working conditions continued to improve for the working poor,

Opportunity: U.S. seafood market grew rapidly in recent years, and the biggest part of seafood
sales is fresh seafood, which is 54% of all seafood retail sales. The king crab of Phillips belongs to
fresh seafood, which means it has huge market potential. Customers tend to buy food that is easy
cooked and fresh, which is a feature of the king crab product. The IBSS is a nation wide trade
show which could attract a lot of exhibitors and attendance. Making use of this platform could help
Phillips to build its reputation and promote its products at the same time. Threat: Just because the
IBSS could attract a large amount of exhibitors, the competition during the trade show is fierce.
Though there are so many potential customers would appear at the trade show, how could Phillips

Anatomical And Structural Differences Between Arteries And...
Briefly identify and discuss the anatomical and structural differences between arteries and veins.
I found the differences between arteries and veins are their functions they provide to the heart as
well as their structure. Arteries transfers blood away from the heart into the periphery resulting in
the pressure of the blood in the arteries being high. Where as, the veins transfer blood towards the
heart. Arteries carry oxygenated blood distributing it in the periphery as the pulmonary artery
moves deoxygenated blood into the lungs for purification. The wall of an artery consists of three
layers machining it thicker than veins. The elasticity within the layers of the muscle allows
arteries to handle great pressures of blood within it. The thickest layer is known as tunica media
as the other two are recognized as tunica externa, and tunica interna. The vein obtains blood from
the periphery and carries it towards the heart. Veins are known to carry deoxygenated blood and
transfers it the heart for purification. The pulmonary vein is known to carry oxygenated blood.
However, there are semilunar valves found within the vein that does not allow retrograde flow of
blood in preventing blood to flow in the opposite direction. Veins are thinner when compared to
arteries consisting of thin elastic muscle layers with one thick layer being the tunica adventitia.
Arteries consist of: carrying oxygenated blood expect for the pulmonary artery; deeply found in the

Evaluation Of The Current Liquidity Management Essay
Executive Summary
This report provides analysis of the current liquidity management in banks. Methods of evaluation
include peer, trend and horizontal analysis such as ratios, principle and regulations. In the first part,
we analyze the differences between liability liquidity management and asset liquidity management
and explore the features an effective liquidity management system should possess. Then we
compare liquidity ratios of four banks in Australia to examine their performance on liquidity
management according to line charts. Finally, Liquidity Coverage Ratio and Net Stable Funding
ratio are introduced, how they improve mutually.
Management of liquidity risk
The financial institutions have obligations to fulfill depositors requirement of withdrawing
deposits. In addition, they need sufficient funds to invest projects and issue loans to make profit,
which maintains a normal operation. Trade off exists between liquidity risk and profit. The ideal
position is to earn high profit while minimum risks. As a result, liquidity management is important
for the financial institutions to avoid risks of default.
Cash is the core in the operation of banks. However, the retained earnings and capital can be
difficult to meet day to day expenses and the demand of cash from depositors. If the banks cannot
raise additional funds or convert asset into cash immediately to meet their obligations, it can lead
to losses or default. (Topaloglou, 2015) This probability of loss is called

Growing up with my mother and sister and being the only male in my household definitely
played a part in my ability to recognize my emotions. In our society, being a male is often
portrayed as not acknowledging feelings and being strong emotionally, but that s not what
makes a great doctor. I was fortunate to go to a medical school that stressed the importance of
the humanistic aspect of medicine and instilled these principals in me. It s not womanly to care
for someone and show emotion during times of loss and it s not feminine to acknowledge a
patient who is upset and comfort them. However, approaching the patient humanistically can be
difficult to accomplish while in the hospital. The lessons taught to me at my school and my

diagnosis, did I give the appropriate medications and of course did I miss something that could
be detrimental to their health? If a doctor does all of these correctly then he did a good job. The

Persuasive Essay On Torture In History
The use of brute force and psychological manipulation to obtain information from detainees is
known as torture. Considered to be one of the most common interrogation methods, this barbaric
craft has been practiced in different cultures throughout history. Ranging from physical assault to
white torture, torture takes many forms. Although widely practiced, this illegal, immoral, and
ineffective method has no bearing in America. Countless torture methods have been used
throughout history. One especially prevalent form is white torture, this method is especially cruel
as it preys on the mind of the detainee rather than the body. White torture embodies both emotional
and psychological torture. In lieu of inflicting physical pain upon the individual, sensory
deprivation and total isolation are used. The detainee is imprisoned in a room that is completely
white. There are no windows and the meals given are completely white. This torture tactic is
frequently employed by the Iranian government and the effects of this torture, while not physical,
are lifelong. On the opposing end of the spectrum, an example of physical torture is waterboarding.
Waterboarding is a form of torture in which water is poured over a cloth covering the face and
breathing passages of an immobilized captive, causing the individual to experience the sensation of
drowning. Torture is an extremely controversial topic in our society today. Foreign terror attacks

skills, and critical thinking methods. I also need to improve and develop my patient care skills
that is an important key to be successful in my future career. I searched about the Tuition
Assistance Program that currently my employer is offering. I received the phone number and the
email address of the person that is responsible for this program. My colleagues believe that the
employer gives the tuition assistance to the employee who can work full time, the problem is I
work part time, but still I want to try this opportunity and talk to that assigned person and ask about
the Tuition Assistance Program. I also have a plan to use

Henry Roe Vs Henry Wade
In 1971, a case was filed by Norma Mccorvey, known more commonly as Jane
Roe, against Henry Wade. Henry Wade was the district attorney of Dallas county from
1951 to 1987. Jane filed a case against him because he enforced a law prohibiting abortion unless
it risks the life of the mother (CNN, 2017). Texas had enacted a criminal abortionstatute in 1854
prevent women from getting legal abortions. Since it had been slightly modified once and since
remained the same. It stated that abortions were not permitted unless medical advice was provided
to abort in order to save the life of the mother. It had been challenged several times, but Roe Vs.
Wade was the case that changed the preexisting ban on abortion (Justia,2016).
Jane roe was a single pregnant women that resided in Dallas county. She sought a declaratory
judgment that the Texas criminal abortion statutes were unconstitutional.
Roe claimed that she was unwed and pregnant and wanted to terminate her pregnancy in a safe way
done by trained professionals. She stated that Texan law on abortion was unconstitutional because it
went against her right of personal privacy laid out by the first, fourth, fifth, ninth, and fourteenth
amendments. She also stated that she was suing not only on behalf of herself but all texan women
(Justia, 2016). SHe believed that all women should have the right to chose to abort. She filed this
lawsuit to overturn decision made in the case Dole V. Bolton. The court had ruled that an abortion

Analysis Of Toni Morrison s The Book And The Conference
On November 3rd, I attended the conference in the United Nations building which was dedicated to
the International decade for people of African descent. The speakers not only spoke about the many
problems African American population in the United States faces today, more importantly, they
mentioned in their speeches slaveryand slave trade, known as the Middle Passage. People of African
descent struggled and still struggle all over the world, fighting for their rights and against
racism. Coincidentally, prior to the conference, I ve finished re reading Toni Morrison Beloved.
Morrison, who won the Nobel prize for this book, directly addresses the issue of slavery and
slave crossing in her novel; the book and the conference inspired me to write on this topic.
Beloved is not only a title of the story, it is also a name, given to one of the main characters by
her mother, who also appears to be her killer. Toni Morrison narrates the story of the family that
is placed in the magical realism where dead come back to life; Beloved is not only the lost
daughter, she also is the embodiment of all the dead victims of slavery, who ask to be
remembered. Beloved is the only book for as long as I can remember I had difficulty while
reading. It is very dense and complex to understand, because nothing makes sense from the very
beginning. I suspect that Toni Morrison challenged not only me, but many readers all over the
world. The topics she chose to write about is uncomfortable both the

The Caliph Harun Al Rashid
Aside from this general emphasis on the value of cleverness and intelligence however, the story of
the Caliph Harun al Rashid and his much exalted qadi Abu Yusuf also highlights an interesting point
about religion and the works to follow or otherwise remain within the confines of certain religious
mandates while simultaneously being able to pursue whatever personal ends one desires. Though
the qadi claims that the actions of the Caliph all fall within accordance with the Qur an and the
teachings of Islam, the series of events required to allow the Caliph to consummate a marriage
with the slave girl which involve such workarounds as the ordering of her marriage to a male
slave in order to divorce them and avoid the three month period of legal purification (Schroeder,
1955) required for sexual conduct, as well as ordering the male slave to become the property of
the girl in order to annul their marriage when the male slave refuses to divorce her on his own it
certainly seems that these actions probably violate the spirit of the law, even if they avoid
violation of the letter. The story itself makes a somewhat humorous and sly mention of this fact
towards the end of the tale, confirming that as to the expiation of the oaths, Abu Yusuf s ruling
would hardly be confirmed by jurists of the Shafi i school, (Schroeder, 1955) but noting that Abu
Yusuf treated it in accord with the views of his own, the Hanafi school. In other words, whether or
not the actions of the qadi

Finding The Steady State Temperature Distribution Of A Beam
Introduction
The aim of the project is to find the steady state temperature distribution in a beam. Since it s
impossible to solve the model analytically due to the irregular geometry of the cross section, the
temperature distribution will be found using ANSYS Mechanical to model the problem and solve
using the finite element method.
The report will go through creating the beam using some pre set values and calculating the rest
using a student s ID number and applying specific boundary conditions.
The temperature distribution will be investigated by changing the boundary conditions of the front
surface and inside of the pipe to being fully insulated and later, the heat transfer coefficient will be
changed from 60 to 10W/m2 with the results being recorded between changes. The differences
between each changes on the model will be discussed in the results/discussion section. Model
description
The beam model used to find the steady state temperature distribution was created using the pre
set dimensions that are shown in the diagrams below: FIGURE 1: Cross section of beam FIGURE

The missing geometric values of the diagrams l, w1, w2 were calculated using a student ID
number and the following equations: l = 14 the last digit of the student number = 14 8 = 6m w1

Neutral Gender Bathroom Controversy
It is 2016, and today s society has become a more diverse community than ever. Although more
people have become open minded there is still one issue that is considered to be controversial. The
issue among transgender people, and the creation of neutral gender bathroom. This issue has
become controversial between the transgendercommunity and the government. The reason behind
this problem is that the transgender community in the recent years has gain momentum in being
accepted by society, but not the government. In my case, I believe that the creation of neutral gender
bathroom can bring a negative impact both psychological discomfort and physical danger to the
population.
The word transgender has become a common one in today s society. Especially after an article
published by The Washington Post, where it talked about a case in Virginia, where a high school
transgender student named Gavin Grimm, sued his highschool board, alleging that the policy
violated his civils right . The article also informs that the case reached the U.S. Court of Appeals
for the 4th Circuit. The case resulted in Gavin having to go to the girl s bathroom. This case took
by storm almost every media in the U.S., as well as more cases related to transgender people
spread through the news media, as well as appearing in John ... Show more content on

can be a bad idea. The reason for this is because we already have enough problems with people like
the sex offender and the pedophiles, who target these areas to attack their victims. An article from
SoCawlage, that talked about the creation of neutral gender bathroom and its effect, it stated about
the neutral gender bathroom the following: [h]erein lies the biggest danger with neutral bathrooms
a potential for more sexual assault, and certainly more harassment . This mean that for the good of
the people and their security, the prohibition of neutral bathroom will help to avoid the rapes and

The Wechsler Intelligence Scale For Children Fifth Edition...
The Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children Fifth Edition (WISC V) is an interactive
performance based test that measures overall intellectual ability for children ages 6 through16.
The test is primarily used by school psychologists, clinical psychologists, and neuropsychologists
to determine a students giftedness, identify intellectual and learning disabilities, assess cognitive
strengths and weaknesses, or to evaluate the impact of brain injuries. It is also used by
practitioners to compare achievement scores of states and evaluate students for purposes such as
private school admissions. The WISC V is broken down into five main cognitive domains and five
additional auxiliary domains that can impact a childs performance in the classroom. The five main
domains tested include verbal comprehension, visual special relationships, fluid reasoning, working
memory, and processing speed. The auxiliary domains include quantitative reasoning, auditory
working memory, nonverbal skills, general ability, and cognitive proficiency. The test can further
assess and identify specific learning disabilities such as dyslexia and dyscalculia using three
additional complementary scores that measure naming speed, symbol translation, and storage and
retrieval processes. Sampling for Validation and Norming Standardization procedures for the
WISC V were conducted from April 2013 through March 2014 and included 2,200 children ages 6
16. The sample was separated into 11 subgroups of 200

  • 2. The Historical And Intellectual Trends Modern Cuban culture cannot simply be defined in a singular fashion. The convergence of peoples from multiple ethnic and cultural backgrounds, ranging from the Iberia and Italy to Africa and China has significantly influenced the evolution of the unique culture of the Cuban population. However, of these, it is the Spanish and African influences that have very distinctly remained, shaping societal norms, and setting culturally artistic precedents. For Afro Cubans however, the struggle to greater recognition of cultural influence has been enormous. Racial oppression and socio economic disparity has been a tumultuous journey for Cubas (population of Afro Cubans) Afro Cuban or black Cuban population. The purpose of this paper will be to... In his famous text, Cuban Counterpoint: Tobacco and Sugar, Ortiz explains how the cultures and peoples that descended upon the island, beginning with the native Ciboney and Taino, did not simple assume one another s culture, but converged to create completely new cultures and societal norms (Ortiz, 99). Though sadly, the majority of these original tribes were completely eliminated by the Spanish, they remain alive in words such as, manatee, hammock, hurricane, and tobacco (Kronenburg, 51). However, to say that Spanish and African peoples descended upon Cuba would be misleading; hence the more accurate use of transculturation to describe the intersection of a range of cultures from the Iberian Peninsula including Galicians, Basque, Portuguese, and from western Africa including Congolese, Angolan, and Guinean (Kronenburg, 52). Even more interesting than the etymology of Cuba s ethnic history is the implications of how transculturation played into the historical and social construction of power dynamics in Cuba. Ortiz states that throughout Cuban history, one culture was not only attempting to gain power and wealth for themselves, but systematically set up a culture that disenfranchised another population; this is seem most directly with the institution of slavery by the Spanish (Ortiz, 101). The power dynamic created by the institution of slavery can certainly be pointed to as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Intaglio can be used with a variety of different materials such as glass, wood, and stone, but zinc seems to be the favorite. Intaglio is used in a variety of different methods such as etching, drypoint, line engraving and aquatint. The process may seem a little lengthy, but it s well worth the effort. A gooey black waxy material is spread all over the material used. When it is dries, the designer scratches into it and then placed in an acid bath. The ink is then applied and ran through a press where duplicates can be made. There are a variety of hard grounds that can be used such as aquatint, sugar lift and spit bit. Intaglio pictures are so unique and interesting due to the simple fact of how unique the process is. The pieces are elegant, beautiful and permanent. Monitoring Patients Through Telehealth Essay Introduction Telehealth is the monitoring via remote exchange of physiological data between a patient at home and health care professionals at hospitals or clinics to assist with diagnosis and treatment. As our society ages and health care costs increase, government and private insurance payers are seeking technological interventions. Technological solutions may provide high quality healthcare services at a distance, utilize professional resources more effectively, and enable elderly and ill patients to remain in their own homes. Four factors that contributed to TeleCare being successful were high participation retention, modification of materials for cultural competency, coordinating administrative functions with the primary care centers, and personalized interactions during group education sessions via video conferencing (Davis et al., 2010, p. 3). While rural diabetics may have additional limitations and distances to travel in order to receive medical care, all diabetics are in need of prompt treatment changes to maximize blood glucose control. Chang et al (2007) evaluated different forms of telehealth delivery among veteran diabetic patients. • 6. The Aircraft Wings Are The Primary Lift Producing Device... The aircraft wings are the primary lift producing device for an aircraft. The aircraft wings are designed aerodynamically to generate a lift force which is required in order for an aircraft to fly. The basic goal of the wing is to generate lift and minimize drag as far as possible. When the airflow passes the wing at any suitable angle of attack, a pressure differential is created. A region of lower pressure is created over the top surface of the wing while, a region of higher pressure is created under the surface of the wing. This difference in pressure creates a differential force which acts upward, which is called lift. For most aircrafts, where, the wings are the primary structures to generate lift, the aircraft s wings must generate sufficient lift to carry the entire weight of an aircraft. In modern commercial, fighter and jet aircraft, the aircraft wings are not only designed to provide the necessary lift during the different phases of flight, but also have a variety of other roles and functions. Wing Support: Cantilevered All the structure is buried under the aerodynamic skin, giving a clean appearance with low drag. A cantilever is a rigid structural element, such as a beam or a plate, anchored at only one end to a (usually vertical) support from which it is protruding. Video taped evidence showed that Vladimir Montesano s, Fujimori s spy chief, had repeatedly bribed congressmen to defect to Fujimori s party to ensure its majority in congress. In addition, large bribes had enabled Montesano s to control most of the media and influence the judiciary. However, Fujimori is credited with having reduced petty corruption. His administration pursued policies reducing the role of government, which he justified not only on efficiency grounds, but on the grounds that reducing the role of government would reduce opportunities for corruption. He attempted to reduce corruption in the police and municipal governments, in the latter case by establishing a supervisory agency to field citizen complaints. However, his reforms of the judiciary are thought to have made it more corrupt. In Miss Brill, Katherine Mansfield uses indirect characterization to demonstrate how loneliness can distort a person s perception of the world and leave one vulnerable when confronting the truth. The monument holds many meanings; a symbol of Franco American alliance, freedom, and liberty (LLC, Shea Media.). Lady Liberty, and many other monuments, are held in high regard and beloved by the American people. But how did this monument, and others, come to be? The idea of monumentalizing an event or person isn t as straightforward as it sounds. While some people may think the process is easy, many factors need to be taken into consideration. There are four main factors that should be considered in the process of building a monument: The worthiness of the event or person being considered for monumentalization, the location of the proposed monument, and the materials and process of making the monument. Arguably, the most important aspect of creating a monument is the worthiness of the person or event in consideration of becoming a monument. While it is hypothetically possible to create a monument to anything, some of the nation s greatest monuments, including the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, 9/11 Memorial, and the Lincoln Memorial, were created because the subjects were carefully vetted and deemed worthy. While there are various theories to suggest that William Shakespeare, the man from Stratford on Avon was not the true author of the plays produced within his lifetime, one theory in particular seems to hold the most concrete evidence. The authorship theory about Edward de Vere, Seventeenth Earl of Oxford seems to have the most historical evidence proving that he is the writer of the plays and sonnets under the pseudonym William Shakespeare. Looking at DeVere s personal life, one can see how his social status and access to higher education would have made it more credible for him to have written such literary masterpieces. Various circumstances of historical fact found about de Vere s life are mirrored in the circumstances and relationships found within the works of Shakespeare. There are some movies that shine light on this topic, Taken for example seems to be one of the closest movies to the ongoings of sex trafficking. Two women were taken from their vacation and one of the girls fathers goes after her and tries to track her down. We saw from the beginning how the young man, who was to abduct them, was able to learn where they lived, that they were tourist, and that they were alone with a whole floor to themselves. It was an easy catch and the two ladies did not even know what they had done by sprouting what they thought was harmless information. Women are seen as weak and property, we can see this through out social media, even though there is talk of equality amongst men and women in this generation it is clear that women are mere objects amongst a large group of men. Human trafficking is a by far one of the cruelest acts, yet not until 2003 was it established as a type type A felony (Children: Not for Sale). Minors under the age of 18 years forced ... • 26. Mccaslin Interruptions Poem Interruptions and the Mindful Moment: McCaslin s Interruptions In a busy and production oriented society, interruptions are generally seen as irritating, rude and unnecessary moments that should be avoided at all costs. However, in Interruptions , Susan McCaslin wants the reader to consider that living in the gaps between thought and conversation, in the interruptions of life, is how one can often see what is truly happening in the present around us. Using the rhetorical pattern of contrast as well as direction, the unexpected, natural imagery and words about language, McCaslin seeks to demonstrate the value of interruptions by understanding them as the gaps in life where the opportunities for mindfulness and creativity lie. The first stanza of McCaslin s Interruptions begins by giving the reader the direction that is the backbone of the poem s theme: in other words, the reader must grow accustomed to the interruptions in life so that the chance for mindfulness can occur. She then uses an unexpected subversion and natural imagery to begin building the contrasts where the interruptions in the poem develop. McCaslin directs the reader to Get used to them , beginning a series of commands to the reader to accept interruptions in every day life. She subverts the idea of a traditional male Abrahamic god, transforming the God she s discussing into a woman. This unexpected turn disrupts the poem itself, an example of the interruptions she s heeding the reader to [g]et ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I shared a room with my two sisters and my two brothers would always come into our room to hear the nightly bedtime story. My mom or dad, depending on who was the least tired, would let us pick out a story for them to read before we fell asleep. More than likely there was always some quarreling over whose turn it was to choose the book. Starting off at a young age listening to stories started my literacy experience. Once I learned to read on my own I almost always could be found reading Junie B. Jones, Amelia Bedelia or Adventures of Cam Jansen. Once I finished all the books in the series of Junie B. Jones, written by Barbra Parks, I started them over again. I read through the whole series 4 times before I became disinterested. Once I stopped the easy reading books I lost interest in reading altogether. For the next few years of my life I went without reading books other than the ones that were required for school. I lost interest in reading, partially due to the choices of books. I did not like the idea that I was forced to read a certain book. Until then I had only read for fun and as a leisure activity, but now having to read for homework took the fun out of it. Skeletal Muscle Contraction Report To fully understand the mechanisms that cause graded muscle contractions, the effects of fatigue, twitch summation, twitch recruitment, tetanus and muscle stretch on skeletal muscle were observed. The gastrocnemius muscle of the Rana pipiens frog was used for each of the 5 experiments performed. When twitch recruitment was observed, one trial was conducted by stimulating the sciatic nerve and the other, conducted by stimulating the skeletal muscle. The contractile force of the muscle was increased until reaching its maximum amplitude. This occurred at a preload of 0.37 (N) raw twitch of 0.39 (N). Optimal length was concluded to be greater than or equal to 5.9 mm, but an exact value was not found due to limitations on stretching. Summation was studied by decreasing inter stimulus intervals until two twitches summed together. This occurred at 100ms, the point where two twitches could no longer be differentiated. • 33. Anatomical And Structural Differences Between Arteries And... Briefly identify and discuss the anatomical and structural differences between arteries and veins. I found the differences between arteries and veins are their functions they provide to the heart as well as their structure. Arteries transfers blood away from the heart into the periphery resulting in the pressure of the blood in the arteries being high. Where as, the veins transfer blood towards the heart. Arteries carry oxygenated blood distributing it in the periphery as the pulmonary artery moves deoxygenated blood into the lungs for purification. The wall of an artery consists of three layers machining it thicker than veins. The elasticity within the layers of the muscle allows arteries to handle great pressures of blood within it. The thickest layer is known as tunica media as the other two are recognized as tunica externa, and tunica interna. The vein obtains blood from the periphery and carries it towards the heart. Veins are known to carry deoxygenated blood and transfers it the heart for purification. The pulmonary vein is known to carry oxygenated blood. However, there are semilunar valves found within the vein that does not allow retrograde flow of blood in preventing blood to flow in the opposite direction. Veins are thinner when compared to arteries consisting of thin elastic muscle layers with one thick layer being the tunica adventitia. Then we compare liquidity ratios of four banks in Australia to examine their performance on liquidity management according to line charts. Management of liquidity risk The financial institutions have obligations to fulfill depositors requirement of withdrawing deposits. In addition, they need sufficient funds to invest projects and issue loans to make profit, which maintains a normal operation. Trade off exists between liquidity risk and profit. The ideal position is to earn high profit while minimum risks. As a result, liquidity management is important for the financial institutions to avoid risks of default. Ranging from physical assault to white torture, torture takes many forms. Although widely practiced, this illegal, immoral, and ineffective method has no bearing in America. Countless torture methods have been used throughout history. One especially prevalent form is white torture, this method is especially cruel as it preys on the mind of the detainee rather than the body. White torture embodies both emotional and psychological torture. In lieu of inflicting physical pain upon the individual, sensory deprivation and total isolation are used. The detainee is imprisoned in a room that is completely white. There are no windows and the meals given are completely white. This torture tactic is frequently employed by the Iranian government and the effects of this torture, while not physical, are lifelong. On the opposing end of the spectrum, an example of physical torture is waterboarding. Beloved is not only a title of the story, it is also a name, given to one of the main characters by her mother, who also appears to be her killer. Toni Morrison narrates the story of the family that is placed in the magical realism where dead come back to life; Beloved is not only the lost daughter, she also is the embodiment of all the dead victims of slavery, who ask to be remembered. Beloved is the only book for as long as I can remember I had difficulty while reading. It is very dense and complex to understand, because nothing makes sense from the very beginning. I suspect that Toni Morrison challenged not only me, but many readers all over the world. The topics she chose to write about is uncomfortable both the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Caliph Harun Al Rashid Aside from this general emphasis on the value of cleverness and intelligence however, the story of the Caliph Harun al Rashid and his much exalted qadi Abu Yusuf also highlights an interesting point about religion and the works to follow or otherwise remain within the confines of certain religious mandates while simultaneously being able to pursue whatever personal ends one desires. Though the qadi claims that the actions of the Caliph all fall within accordance with the Qur an and the teachings of Islam, the series of events required to allow the Caliph to consummate a marriage with the slave girl which involve such workarounds as the ordering of her marriage to a male slave in order to divorce them and avoid the three month period of legal purification (Schroeder, 1955) required for sexual conduct, as well as ordering the male slave to become the property of the girl in order to annul their marriage when the male slave refuses to divorce her on his own it certainly seems that these actions probably violate the spirit of the law, even if they avoid violation of the letter. The story itself makes a somewhat humorous and sly mention of this fact towards the end of the tale, confirming that as to the expiation of the oaths, Abu Yusuf s ruling would hardly be confirmed by jurists of the Shafi i school, (Schroeder, 1955) but noting that Abu Yusuf treated it in accord with the views of his own, the Hanafi school. In other words, whether or not the actions of the qadi ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Finding The Steady State Temperature Distribution Of A Beam Introduction The aim of the project is to find the steady state temperature distribution in a beam. Since it s impossible to solve the model analytically due to the irregular geometry of the cross section, the temperature distribution will be found using ANSYS Mechanical to model the problem and solve using the finite element method. The report will go through creating the beam using some pre set values and calculating the rest using a student s ID number and applying specific boundary conditions. The temperature distribution will be investigated by changing the boundary conditions of the front surface and inside of the pipe to being fully insulated and later, the heat transfer coefficient will be changed from 60 to 10W/m2 with the results being recorded between changes. The differences between each changes on the model will be discussed in the results/discussion section. Model description The beam model used to find the steady state temperature distribution was created using the pre set dimensions that are shown in the diagrams below: FIGURE 1: Cross section of beam FIGURE 2: Parameters of beam Source for Figure 1 2: Math1122 assignment 1. Images by Ding, 2015 The missing geometric values of the diagrams l, w1, w2 were calculated using a student ID number and the following equations: l = 14 the last digit of the student number = 14 8 = 6m w1 = 7 + the 2nd last digit of the student number = 7+1 = 8m w2 = 1.7 + (the 2nd last ... • 46. Neutral Gender Bathroom Controversy It is 2016, and today s society has become a more diverse community than ever. Although more people have become open minded there is still one issue that is considered to be controversial. The issue among transgender people, and the creation of neutral gender bathroom. This issue has become controversial between the transgendercommunity and the government. The reason behind this problem is that the transgender community in the recent years has gain momentum in being accepted by society, but not the government. In my case, I believe that the creation of neutral gender bathroom can bring a negative impact both psychological discomfort and physical danger to the population. The word transgender has become a common one in today s society. Especially after an article published by The Washington Post, where it talked about a case in Virginia, where a high school transgender student named Gavin Grimm, sued his highschool board, alleging that the policy violated his civils right . The article also informs that the case reached the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit. The case resulted in Gavin having to go to the girl s bathroom. This case took by storm almost every media in the U.S., as well as more cases related to transgender people spread through the news media, as well as appearing in John ... The reason for this is because we already have enough problems with people like the sex offender and the pedophiles, who target these areas to attack their victims. An article from SoCawlage, that talked about the creation of neutral gender bathroom and its effect, it stated about the neutral gender bathroom the following: [h]erein lies the biggest danger with neutral bathrooms a potential for more sexual assault, and certainly more harassment . This mean that for the good of the people and their security, the prohibition of neutral bathroom will help to avoid the rapes and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. The Wechsler Intelligence Scale For Children Fifth Edition... The Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children Fifth Edition (WISC V) is an interactive performance based test that measures overall intellectual ability for children ages 6 through16. The test is primarily used by school psychologists, clinical psychologists, and neuropsychologists to determine a students giftedness, identify intellectual and learning disabilities, assess cognitive strengths and weaknesses, or to evaluate the impact of brain injuries. It is also used by practitioners to compare achievement scores of states and evaluate students for purposes such as private school admissions. The WISC V is broken down into five main cognitive domains and five additional auxiliary domains that can impact a childs performance in the classroom. The five main domains tested include verbal comprehension, visual special relationships, fluid reasoning, working memory, and processing speed. The auxiliary domains include quantitative reasoning, auditory working memory, nonverbal skills, general ability, and cognitive proficiency. The test can further assess and identify specific learning disabilities such as dyslexia and dyscalculia using three additional complementary scores that measure naming speed, symbol translation, and storage and retrieval processes. Sampling for Validation and Norming Standardization procedures for the WISC V were conducted from April 2013 through March 2014 and included 2,200 children ages 6 16. The sample was separated into 11 subgroups of 200 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
