Reflection Of Education
While these are good values to have when starting my career as an educator, these abstract thoughts
aren t going to get me anywhere unless I am able to translate them into practice. Upon reflection about
how to do so, I was able to come up with a few ways on how to get these thoughts into educational
practice. One important practice is to institute effective, positive and accurate communication with
parents as soon as possible. Starting off the year with parent teacher conferences as early as possible
will start off the year on a good note while finding out as much as possible about the...family s goals
for their child s learning and development (YC). This will ensure that everyone is on the same page
going into the year and they can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This extra work that the teachers need to put in is tripled for the parents; they have been dealing with
their child and their needs since birth. Respecting and appreciating [this] extra work and being able to
include positive comments about their child s successes and not just their shortcomings will go a long
way in building up the respect from parents (YC). We need to keep in mind that some parents have
had a long history of working with the government and other professionals that haven t been helpful
and they might assume that you won t assist their child either. This is a challenge that can be
addressed when first speaking to the parents and communicating with them that you are here to help
and describe various ways to provide supports.
Along with communication with the families, an important part of building a cohesive classroom is
having techniques on controlling behaviors. This will include, in some instances, an FBA and BiP to
curtail specific problem behaviors. For the most part, I will try and implement PBIS and other styles,
like group contingency strategies, to manage my classroom. I hope that my class will respect me and
therefore listen to the rules that we have in place. During the first day, as a class, we will come up with
a rules list that is simple yet pervasive. After putting into effect these rules, the consequences will be
clearly stated.

Kristallnacht Analysis
After the defeat in WWI and the humiliation of the Treaty of Versailles, Germany faced an economic
crash and was left under the rule of an unstable democracy. In times of desperate need, the German
people favored the Nazi party and elected their own fascist leader, Adolf Hitler. While the Germans
simply hoped for bread, work, and the restoration of German pride, they were given much more than
they bargained for. Hitler created his own cult of personality and blinded the citizenry to his
promotion of racist ideas and stereotypes, which eventually escalated into millions of deaths across
Europe, and a war that changed the world.
Although the violence on Kristallnacht is viewed as the the spark that led to the flames of the
Holocaust, one must ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Germany s economy after World War I was left in shambles, to the point where people were
living off of bread and water. The Führer took advantage of the people s fear and desperation and used
it to forward his agenda, presenting himself as their light in the darkness. He created a cult of
personality, not unlike those of dictators who ruled at the same time, such as Joseph Stalin Russia and
Benito Mussolini of Italy, or even Kim Jong Un of today. An image from 1938 depicts the different
Badges of Shame assigned to those in concentration camps, including Jews, homosexuals, immigrants,
political enemies, and the mentally ill (Doc 7). Hitler took advantage of symbolism, and in this case
used it to categorize and divide his targets, creating a social stigma around those who wore the stars
and triangles. He further used symbolism in establishing unity among the German population and
solidifying his cult following, by making forcing them to pledge their allegiance to him. An image
from 1935 of a Nazi Rally in Nuremberg depicts a huge crowd of young Germans doing the Nazi
salute (Doc 6). With a hand gesture stolen from the Romans, he made it his own by adding the words
Heil Hitler! . In addition to using symbolism, Hitler used the media and appointed a Minister of
Propaganda to build up a positive image. This hero worship allowed Hitler

Importance Of College Tuition
College Tuition: Why is it so high?
After high school, people either go right into college or find a job and decide whether or not college is
the right choice for them. The choice would be a lot simpler if college tuition wasn t so high. Nobody
wants student loan debts following them for the rest of their lives. Lowering or even making college
tuition free, will encourage more people to get an education and become successful. People shouldn t
have to pay thousands of dollars, in order to try and better themselves with higher education. The price
of textbooks are ridiculous as well. Colleges need to offer free online textbooks to their students There
are many things that can be done to achieve free college tuition, for example, unnecessary expenses
college programs have to offer, such as athletic programs. Our governments high budgeted military
fund can also be cut and the money can be used for making college tuition free or even less expensive.
Many countries already provide tuition free colleges to their students. So why is college tuition so
expensive?
College tuition has been increasing its price over the years. Supposedly, the reason for higher tuition,
is inflation. According to an article on USA today, under the College section, In the past 12 months,
the rate of inflation stood at 2.2%, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Colleges, however,
appear to be increasing their tuition rates by nearly double the inflation rate a trend that has been
consistent for

Religious Views on Business Ethics
Business ethics is a very broad term and widely used throughout the world. The term business ethics
first started to be used in the United States in the early 1970 s as businesses were growing bigger and
more powerful. Business ethics are guidelines or behaviors that businesses and individuals use daily to
deal with the world, and even smaller situations they might find themselves in. Race, gender, age and
religion all play a role in a person s ethics. The most important factor in a person s perspective of
business ethics is religion, because there are so many different religious views. Buddhists follow the
teachings of Buddha to help with their ethics in business. Christianity uses the Ten Commandments

19:28), and Justice, justice shall you pursue (Deut. 16:20) define the values that guide a Jewish
economic activity (Knitter Muzaffer, 97). Jewish faith believes that a person should show reasonable
concern for others. In these aspects Judaism is like Christian faith, however, there is a major difference
in their beliefs. Jews believe that wanting wealth is wrong, and that it leads to envy or greed, which
turns people away from God. Like Buddhism, though, Judaism believes that a person should just have
what is necessary for them to survive and be happy. Judaism has rules that they follow as business
ethics. Employers and employees have different rules to follow, because they are on different levels.
One rule that Jews believe, is that an employer should not demand more from a worker than they are
capable of doing. An employer is not allowed to embarrass, insult, or degrade an employee, and that
they cannot hold a worker s payment due to a debt. Jewish employees should be allowed to leave work
and return home before the sunsets on the Sabbath and holidays. The main rule for employees is that
they are not allowed to waste time, slack off in their performance, interrupt their work, or have
meaningless conversations while at work. Judaism has a lot of rules and commandments they believe
in dealing with business ethics. Freedom, responsibility, and honesty are the three main ideas of
Islamic ethics. To be a Muslim, a person has to have these

Bystander Effect Theory Essay
The Bystander Effect Theory
Have you seen a group of children bullying or pushing around another child? Did you stand by and
watch the situation and not intervene? If so, even with such a minor situation, you fell into the
bystander effect theory. The bystander effect happens every day in our lives and dates all the way back
to the Holocaust and even further back in history.
The bystander effect theory is a psychological phenomenon were people do not help others in
emergency situations when there are others present, the bigger the crowd the less likely chance of
someone stepping in to help. In 1964, there was a woman who was brutally murdered and there were
approximately 30 witnesses who did not intervene to save her. This case was ... Show more content on

People are just trying to live life and survive and if the situation is too out of control where we are
talking about guns being involved, then that s where people would draw a line and not do anything to
help. People start to fear that their own life becomes in danger if they try to intervene in something of
that magnitude. I can completely understand why people would be more hesitant when it comes to
helping others when they fear their own life can be taken from them. This type of fear is one of the
main reason the Holocaust happened and people did very little to help the Jews.
During the Holocaust there were mass killings involving huge crowds and a very massive witness
group. The Germans were brain washed to think the Jews were horrible people and they blamed them
for taking away their dignity as a country. There are reports of dozen of witness that stood by and did
nothing to help. A photographer took pictures of a man, a Luthuanian, beating 30 40 men to death with
a crow bar then watched as they sang their national anthem on top of the dead bodies. With a crowd so
enormous and so many people with hate in their hearts it would be so hard for someone to intervene in
that type of situation. Another example from the reading is a medical man was about to offer a
bandage to a Jewish lady but one of the guards approached them and threatened the medical s man
life. The guard instilled fear in this man and he went back and told

Biomagnetic Therapy Essay
Biomagnetic Therapy
Biomagnetic therapy is an alternative form of healing that has been in existence for over 100,000
years (1). The AncientGreeks discovered the very first natural magnet in the form of the lodestone,
and Hippocrates, the father of medicine, noted it s healing powers (2).
Unlike the United States, Japan, China, India, Austria, and Germany all are advanced in the field of
magnetic therapy. (2). The United States does, though, use magnets in complex machines to help
better understand the body and brain, such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), which uses
magnetic fields to formulate 3 D images of the brain, and electroncephalogreaphs (EEG), which look
at the electrical activity of the brain. But, as for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The explanation: All cells that are alive are electrical; that is the outside of a cell has a negative charge
and the inside, a positive charge. This combination of opposite charges allows the cell to function
normally. When a part of the body becomes damaged, such as the body s tissue, the damaged area
responds with inflammation, which is caused by a lack of blood flow. This lack of blood flow blocks
the body s natural ability to provide oxygen and nutrients to the injured cells. Thus, the polarity of the
cells gets out of whack. The role biomagnets play in aiding damaged tissue is based upon the belief
that magnets can realign the cell s polarity, which helps the cell get back to functioning normally.
They claim that an increase in the diameter of the body s blood vessels is also an affect of using a
biomagnet on damaged tissue. This enlargement allows more blood, carrying rich nutrients and
oxygen, to flow to the injured area and leave with tissue s toxins. (1)
They also say that the magnet s energy has been described as a catalyst, which speeds up biological
processes and enables the body to heal itself and ease pain. This catalyst stimulates blood circulation,
allowing more oxygen to be distributed all over the body. (3)

Lady Boss Essay
The Lady Boss: Women In Entrepreneurship and Procurement
Women entrepreneurs are making their mark in entrepreneurship. According to facts from the National
Women s Business Council, women owned firms are growing and are continuing to help in employing
people. Women are also becoming active in the entrepreneurship world and they contribute their
different style compared to men entrepreneurs.
Some women entrepreneurs are confident to thrive in a male dominated industry while other women
entrepreneurs cater to other women and their concerns, needs and wants. In both aspects, women play
the game and they have the chance to be successful. Women are slowly taking the path of
entrepreneurship and most often make the transit from employer or housewife to a full fledged
entrepreneur in their own right. And such opportunities are not denied to them.
The SBA and the WOSB
The woman entrepreneur can have a lot of help in creating and building her business. The foremost
help can be from the Small Business Administration (SBA). The agency created a program, the
Woman Owned Small Business or WOSB, to help women entrepreneurs in terms of procurement and
purchasing.
The government, with the WOSB program, helps women and their businesses by setting aside and
giving them federal contracts. Businesses that qualify are characterized as business owned and run by
female entrepreneurs. The program also has its own certification called Woman Owned Small
Business (WOSB) program certification. The

Sources of Inequity in Highly Tracked Courses
Many students expressed the desire for study groups and more office hours. Currently, the teacher is
holding office hours whenever possible, and although that is limited by the teachers availability, the
formation of a study group is not. A school sponsored study group can be extremely beneficial for
students who may otherwise feel awkward asking a classmate they just met if they would like to study
together. One student stated, Most of what BHS would probably try to offer, most kids seek out on
their own. It would be nice to set up a peer study group at a set location on days when teacher is not
available if only for the students who don t have friends they feel they can rely on. That way no one
feels excluded when it comes to studying, and those who typically cannot rely on teacher or friends
have somewhere to go. From my own experience, all of my advanced courses in high school were
filled with at least a few of my friends (perks of going to a smaller school), so finding help was not a
huge issue. However, in college, study groups became my life outside the classroom. Last semester, I
spent eight hours a week in study groups, and without them, I would have probably had to take a few
courses again. Study groups give direction and structure to studying that one may otherwise not have
on his or her own. One high achieving student mentioned that her primary resource is about 4 5 close
friends with whom she formed a study group. Even a study workshop can guide students in

Unrest In Ferguson Research Paper
The Unrest in Ferguson
When reading the article on Ferguson, I experienced feelings of sadness, disgust and anger. The media
s influence on some people has had a highly effective outcome. There has not been any rioting and
looting in Ferguson for many months since things calmed down. Soon as the media started
announcing the one year anniversary, all crap hit the fan. Last year the majority of the violent
protesters and rioters were not from the Ferguson area, which I fee will be the case this year as well.
Some will just want to be involved to make headline news for the local and worldwide media to speak
about. Negative press is not always bad press, but in the case of Ferguson last year, it worked. If the

not that of the parents of Mike Brown, my daughter died in surgery. The pain of losing a child whether

parents were not able to recover or grieve for months. I saw and felt the pain in their faces and body

Allowing Marine Parks To Keep Marine Mammals
The main thesis presented in the essay is whether to allow marine parks to keep marine mammals. The
first main argument Bill Daly s presents is the fact that individuals would rather see marine mammals
in the wild life than captured inside a tank. Bill Daly s states In fact, there are more places where they
can be seen in wild than places where they can be seen in captivity (Daly 2016, p.469). This argument
presents the fact that many of the places people visit have many areas to see marine mammals in the
wild, which is an option many tourist would prefer. The second argument presented in the essay is that
when it comes to research of marine mammals, marine parks are only useful to study animals that are
captured. Bill Daly states Dolphin

Product Model This model is interested in the product of the curriculum: just what does it equip a

the twentieth century. However CALLAHAN in the 1970 s with his instrumentalism ideology of
skilling the learner to be fit for work, stated
To the teacher, I would say that you must satisfy the parents and industry that what you are doing

and seeing very little return, made him concentrate on making people fit for work, in turn helping the
economy and paying the government back on their investment. This is the main model used in my

detailed attention to what people need to know in order for it to work. Lesson plans are produced with

Learning And Development Processes Of A Child
The learning and development processes of a child have been debated for years, with no one theory
sticking out as the best explanation as to how and why we learn. Looking at the behaviourist and
humanist views of learning and development and the key theorists within them, you can see just how
different they can be with their explanations of this.
The key behaviourist views on learning are that learning is shaped by different incentives presented to
the child. External stimulus shapes learning, as it prompts a response and increases the likelihood of
the learner repeating the behaviour. Behaviourists believe development happens as a process of
learning and that it has nothing to do with pre determined stages relating to a child s age and or mental
ability. The behaviourist view works on a mix of operant and classical conditioning, operant
conditioning is a process of learning where behaviour is controlled by consequences such as positive
and negative reinforcements and positive and negative punishments. Classical conditioning is when
the learner simply responds to external stimuli in a deterministic manner (Jordan, Carlile, and Stack,
2008).
Pavlov, a behaviourist, looked deeply into the idea of classical conditioning and involuntary responses
to stimuli. Pavlov looked at the responses of dogs and found that when the dog was presented with
food the dog would salivate, which would be an unconditional response. But, when combined with the
ringing of a bell as the food was

The Horror Of Horror Films
Horror films are alluring to viewers for many reasons. Horror movies have longed to serve a purpose
which is to scare and also provide stories about the dark scary side of life. People watch horror movies
to get scared, for the thrill and most of all plain old entertainment. Three main characteristics of horror
films are according to Maggie McCutcheon is scaring people into creating morals, Stephen King
differs and says that horror films are made to let people s emotion and fears rein free, and Tim Dirks
feels that a film must have certain characteristics for a horror film to be considered good .
Horror films are not only meant to scare you but to also scare you into creating morals. Maggie
McCutcheon discusses in her article Too Disturbing, Too Shocking , that the purpose for horror films
is to scare you into having morals and it tells you how to act which benefits the society. This quote
explains the purpose for horror films according to McCutcheon Despite their gore, they are almost
always moral fables about how to act... , by telling you how to act they teach you main principles of
what good and evil are. What she means by good and evil is that all the gore from horror films
psychologically scares people into having morals and clearly see what is good from bad (1).
In Stephen King s article Why We Crave Horror Movies , he discusses his view on the purpose for
horror movies. In this quote he says, ... horror movies provide psychic relief... which means that

Thousands of people wanted to arrive into the Big Apple and several businessmen recognized that

While these (rail agencies) have not expanded their services into Penn Station as much as New Jersey
Transit has, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority has studies being worked on to provide such
availabilities with regards to its Metro North Railroad. Two of the aforementioned railroad s lines, the
New Haven and Hudson Line are being looked upon as for having the potential to arrive in Penn
Station rather than terminating into Grand Central Terminal through already existing trackage. The
New Haven Line can utilize the same tracks that Amtrak trains use to run from Penn Station to (New
Rochelle), where it connects to Metro North s New Haven Line; the latter line can run along Amtrak s
Hell Gate Line with the possiblity of adding new train station along the way within the vicinities of Co
op City, Parkchester, and Hunts Point before reaching 34th street. The Hudson Line can run along
Amtrak s Empire Connection line that the agency uses to allow its Empire Service trains to transfer
from Metro North s Hudson Line into Penn Station. Along the line, new rail stations may be
implemented within the vicinities of West 125th and West 62nd Streets in Manhattan s West Side.

Cause And Effect Of Climate Change
Climate change is one of the biggest news headlines of today. While there are skeptics that believe that
global warming is just a hoax, there are many undeniable phenomenons happening around the world.
The effects of climate change, in the long run, will be catastrophic if it is left alone. In just the past
two months, there have been four hurricanes that made landfall in North America, and a wildfire more
aggressive than has ever been seen before, ripping through California, killing forty people and
leveling almost six thousand structures. Millions of Americans are displaced due to these unusually
aggressive storms and the fires raging throughout California. Arctic species have seen massive
reductions in their populations, with less food to eat, and less mates to breed with. The toxicity of the
air in urban cities and contamination of waters outside these cities is on the rise. If the world keeps
dismissing the importance of climate change, there will be calamitous consequences for the future
generations. The effects of climate change, if not fixed, will be Arctic ice melting, reduction in animal
populations, habitats threatened, and the air toxicity and seasonal allergies to humans. The causes
include the greenhouse effect and air pollution. In the past decade, Americans have seen global
warming in the headlines constantly. About 71 percent of American scientists say that global warming
is happening now (Saad). According to Linda Saad, Forty five percent of Americans

The Embarrassing Moment Of A Friend Of Mine
I remember the embarrassing moment a friend of mine went through in class a few years ago, when
she had organized some chronological images on the wall. The instructor completely tore her work
apart because of her way of organization. Now in the world of design, most teachers get very upset
when the work is hung crocked on the wall. But this was not the case with my friend. Her work was
simply torn apart because of the direction she hung her pictures. Now most people in class, including
the teacher and even herself weren t aware of the fact that she simply did that because she came from
a middle eastern country where everything is organized from right to left. But I was well familiar with
this problem. In fact, I grew up learning three languages at the same time in school. At age seven, I
was learning to read and write in Persian, Assyrian, and English. In the beginning, it would take me a
minute to remember which way to start from when writing an essay. For those of you who might not
be familiar with these languages, Persian and Assyrian start from the right side of the line moving to
the left and eventually to the bottom of the page. The numeric characters however, start from the left,
and so does English. All these rights and lefts confused me very much, and yet, when I found out that
some Asian languages had a top to bottom directionality, my mind was blown away. These conflicts
made me start thinking about how the world might seem different to an English speaker than

Straight Outta Compton Film Analysis
Straight Outta Compton A Mirror of Reagan Era
Straight Outta Compton, a movie released in 2015, depicts the formation, prevalence, dissolution and
reorganization of the gangsta rap group N.W.A (Niggaz Wit Attitudes). It is a top grossing movie with
a box office reaching 56.1 million USD. So, why this movie has made such a great success and has
received such a high reputation nationwide? As far as I am concerned, the reason lies in its disclosure
of American social issues at the end of 1980s. It is indeed a mirror that reflects the American social
issues at that time with the description of the socio economic and political structure of the Reagan Era
especially from the late 1980s to the early 1990s. After watching the movie, I found that there are

is also the time when the Black culture gained much social recognition. The movie Straight Outta

Globalization Is A Major Point Of Negativity
Globalization is defined in many ways. Globalization generally refers to the expansion of global
communications, growing social and political interdependence and the development of a planetary
rather than national awareness among many of the world s people (Anderson, 98). The process of
globalization is allowing people from all over the world be more interconnected with one another. The
process is seen in many different ways. Our clothing is no longer made in the United States, today we
look at the tags and see Made in Indonesia or Product of Venezuela . Many companies such as
Microsoft, Nike, and Wal Mart are reaching people in places that were not considered feasible markets
only 30 years ago. Globalization has been a subject to controversy by both the richest and the poorest
of countries. Outsourcing is a major point of negativity in this new interconnected world. Many jobs
are lost from workers in the developed nations and sent to developing nations who will supply
workers for less.
There are many causes of globalization. We cannot put our finger on any one particular change in our
culture that has led to the larger interconnectedness of nations. Globalization has been around for a
long time, going back to mercantilism of the 16th through 18th centuries. Today s vast globalization
may be attributed to the formation of the United Nations in 1945. Along with the United Nations, the
creation of the World Trade Organization has accelerated this trend with trade

Fear Of Madness In Hamlet
Madness, and fear of madness, are the driving factors behind the plot and character interactions in the
play Hamlet by William Shakespeare. By the end of the play, almost every main character ends up
dead as a result of the hysteria or indecisiveness of other characters. As more and more tragic events
and countless deaths occur, each character is forced to find a coping mechanism. Some succumb to the
pressure, like Ophelia, who goes mad and drowns after her father dies, but others attempt to hide the
effect the pressure has on them, like King Claudius. A deeper examination of Claudius s emotions and
behaviors reveal that his psychological state is in truth severely damaged and has taken a toll on his
actions.

Psychoactive Drugs Can Have On An Individual s Brain
To fully understand the affects that psychoactive drugs can have on an individual s brain, one has to
first define the term, dissect the history and use, know what factors cause addiction, and what leads to
drug dependency. What is a psychoactive drug? A psychoactive drug, psycho pharmaceutical, or
psychotropic is a chemical substance that changes brain function and results in alterations in
perception, mood, or consciousness (drug, n.d). Typically the term drug alone can be seen or

Opioids have long been valued for their effect on the gastrointestinal system due their ability to
quieting coughing (codeine) and counteracting diarrhea. One of the most popular forms of opium used
today medically is morphine. Although opioids are the most effective medication in aiding chronic
pain and many other issues, it has been given a bad rap as a very addictive substance when not
monitored correctly or taken in moderation.
What causes addiction? .No one single factor can determine why psychoactive drugs have a tendency
to become addictive. On the contrary the more risk factors a person has, the greater the chance that
taking drugs will lead to abuse and addiction. Learned behavior such as classical learning is one factor
that can lead to addiction and later abuse. Through classical conditioning one can pair the pleasure of
addictive substances or activities with environmental cues. For example, suppose someone smokes a
cigarette in their car after work. The enjoyment of smoking a cigarette forms a paired association with
riding in the car, as well as the time frame after work . By repeatedly pairing cigarettes with car, and
cigarettes after work, both the car and after work will become cues to smoke cigarettes. Then these
cues (getting into the car, getting off work) may create powerful cravings for nicotine.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Lasers
The term laser originated as an acronym for light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation. A
laser is different from other sources of light in that it emits light coherently1. Spatial coherence
provides the advantage as a laser to be focused to a spot, enabling applications such as laser cutting
and lithography. Lasers also have high temporal coherence, which allows them to emit light with a
very narrow spectrum. They can emit a single colour of light. Temporal coherence can be used to
produce pulses of light. Laser has a number of applications. They are used in printers, barcode
scanners, optical communication, laser surgery, skin treatment, cutting, welding materials, and laser

Tissues preferentially absorb light at varying wavelengths. Light has dual nature as described in
Physics. When it is travelling, it is considered to be continuous wave but when it strikes a tissue or a

through a given tissue with a high absorption coefficient for its specific wavelength will lose energy
through absorption easily. Because these photons are readily absorbed, this light travels much shorter
distances than those light wavelengths that are not absorbed. The absorption of photons from initial
ray of laser eventually degrades the power of light with distance travelled. Absorption coefficient for
the various tissues is lesser at the wavelength of light between 600 to 900 nm, which means better

Analysis Of Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales
Understanding the sources for a particular work is an important task for literary critics, because it
ultimately leads to a better understanding and appreciation of the work itself. Sometimes similarities
are so weak as to strain the credulity of theories propounding influence. At other times, the ties are so
strong that influence is near certain. However, regardless of the strength of such ties, the alterations
made to an original source are very potent cues as to authorial intention. In composing The Canterbury
Tales, there is a broad diversity of tales told by a wide range of narrators. This indicates that Chaucer
likely used a wide variety of sources. The alterations made by Chaucer to the source material for the
Clerk s Tale, including Boccaccio s Decameron X, or The Story of Griselda, indicate Chaucer s motive
to examine issues such as marriage as was found in Renaissance Italy, and to explore the state of mind
of the Marquis, as well as Griselda. Chaucer not only layers psychological depth to Boccaccio s tale,
but also adds to its traditional veneration of the obedient and tractable wife a genuine admiration for
women in general.
Much critical ink has been spilled contesting the power of influence Boccaccio s work in the
Decameron had over Chaucer in writing The Canterbury Tales. Indeed, though the two works diverge
in both plot and subject, they also possess strong similarities. These convergences have led readers to
presume that Chaucer engaged in heavy

What Are The Unique Chemical Properties Of Water
Water is one of the essential components that are a prerequisite in supporting life. It can be described
as an odorless, tasteless and transparent liquid that occur naturally. Water is colorless when it is in
small amount, but adopts a bluish color when it is in large quantities. As a natural compound, water is
the most abundant and familiar liquid that exist on earth. In its natural solid (ice) and liquid form,
water is estimated to cover over 70% of the entire surface of the universe (Sikorski, 2006).
Biologically, water constitutes a huge proportion of all the living tissues in a human body. Specifically,
water comprises approximately 92% of the blood plasma, an estimate of 80% of the muscle tissues,
and over 61% of the body s red blood cells (Ratner et al., 2012). Also, water constitutes of over a half
of the majority of other tissues in the human body. Since water appears to be so ubiquitous, people
tend to be unaware of the unique properties that make water an essential compound. It is the unique
physical and chemical properties of water that are unavailable in other natural compounds that give it
indisputable importance in supporting the lives and survival of all living organisms on earth. Unique

don t take my word for it, but just as a Racist would claim their non racist ways, so would an
individual who bares no observation from the receiving end of inequality. Just take for example the
school teacher interviewed during a psychological experiment in Europe on Racism. (Elliot, Jane) In
the South, anti Black violence declined. Black candidates were elected to political offices in
communities where blacks had once been barred from voting, and many of the leaders or
organizations that came into

Vampire Academy Sparknotes
Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead is the first book in this paranormal romance series. The setting of
the books take place in St. Vladimir s academy. The main characters in the first book are Rose
Hathaway and Lissa Dragomir. Three different species of vampires are introduced in the first book
which are dhampirs, moroi, and strigoi. Dhampirs like Rose are human vampires hybrids that live to
protect the more fragile moroi. Moroi, like Lissa, are full living vampires that feed on human blood
and branch out into royal families. Strigoi are the evil dead that are created from killing a human and
will do anything to kill. Rose and Lissa are the perfect best friends, so much that they have a bond in
which Rose is able to see through Lissa s mind. Moroi posses abilities to control certain elements such
earth, water, air, and fire. However, Lisa has a rare ability named Spirit in which she able to restore
life and heal. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I really enjoyed how the author uses Romanian mythology to create this complex world in the series.
The book moved at a fast pace and kept me interested until the very end. The only part of the book
that I wished the author made would be to add more action because a lot people who read this book
think it s just about vampires in high school, but the second book features so much action. Overall I
would recommend reading this book because it is the first book that introduces the characters and
story plot in the six book series. I will read the next six books in the series because I really enjoy the
storyline. I hope the action will pick up in the next books and I am excited to learn more about
characters throughout the series. I think the book will be easy to relate to teenagers around the age of
the main characters who are facing danger at every turn, but still are

Grapheme Color Synesthesia
Synesthesia was discovered back in the 1880s when Francis Galton described a condition where he
thinks of numbers in visual imagery, which is known as synesthesia today. Synesthesia is the
experience in which a stimulation of one sense triggers an additional sensory experience (Rothen
Mejer, 2010). In other words, it is a condition where the senses are cross linked, and the experience is
automatic and reliable (Rich, Bradshaw, Mattingley, 2005). A common type of synesthesia is called
the grapheme color synesthesia, which is when people experience seeing colors when they come
across any letters or numbers even though the font color is black. For instance, the letter A to a
synesthete may be a red color, and the number three may be a blue ... Show more content on

The encoded stimulus is richer for synesthetes compared to people without synesthesia. Also there is a
performance advantage when the subjects recall the spoken or written words (Gross, Neargarder,
Caldwell Harris Cronin Golomb, 2011; Rothen Ward, 2012). In Gross et al. s (2011) study, they
recruited nine color graphemic synesthetes using a standardized neuropsychological measure that
would trigger color graphemic synesthesia for verbal tasks. One verbal test that they used was the
Paired Verbal Associates test. For this test, participants were to learn eight pairs of standard shapes
and nonsense shapes. Some trials had immediate recall or a 30 minute delay. In all trials, the
synesthetic participants recalled the standard shape when presented with the nonsense shape. This test
was altered to reduce potential differences between the participant s synesthesia and the colors, by
exchanging the colored squares with the line drawings of familiar shapes. A one way ANOVA was
conducted for each trial. It revealed that all synesthetes reached ceiling on trial 3 and 4 (M=5.0 +/ 1.7),
while none of the control participants reached ceiling (M= 2.89 +/ 2.2). Their results were very similar
to Rothen and Meier s (2010) results. For the most part, their findings supported the cue induced
encoding/retrieval hypothesis. Significant results were elicited by the tests

Crisis management; BP
Introduction
When an organization is in a crisis, it dominates the organization s agenda and requires immediate
action. The way the organization responds to a crisis can differ in many ways. In this essay I would
like to discuss the crisis of the British concern British Petroleum (BP). At first I would like to provide
more information about the crisis and its consequences, then I will identify the kind of crisis we have
to deal with, I will discuss the several communication strategies BP have used, I will explain the
different reactions of the public on the crisis. At last, I will give the oil concern some advice, in case a
reoccurrence takes place.
The BP oil spill
The BP oil spill was a big natural disaster in the Gulf of Mexico ... Show more content on

BP made mistake after mistake and it seems like Tony Hayward did not attend any media training.
It is almost impossible to deny that a lot of things went wrong in the communication concerning the
explosion of the platform and the following oil spill of the British oil concern BP. In the first instance,
BP denied there was oil leaking out of the oil well. After that BP trivialized the consequences of the
ecocatastrophe. Even the CEO Tony Hayward made some dull statements. What did BP do wrong?
BP made a big mistake right after the explosion. They were not open and honest about the situation.
First they denied the oil spill. When it became clear that there was definitely an oil spill, BP denied
there would be any consequences for the environment and trivialized the situation later on. The Gulf
of Mexico is a very big ocean. The amount of volume of oil and dispersant we are putting into it is
tiny in relation to the total water volume said top executive Hayward, while scientists, biologists and
satellite images proved the opposite. The photo shopped images of the crisis did little good for the oil
concern.
In the first weeks of the crisis BP used two Nonexistence strategies . BP used the denial strategy which
means that they gave a simple statement denying that the crisis existed. After the denial strategy BP
used the clarification strategy . This strategy was an

Sympathetic Villain In Doctor Faustus
On the Differences between the Ultimate to the Sympathetic Villain
In John Milton s Paradise Lost Satan represents the ultimate villain, a genuine representation of the
dark side. For this reason, Milton s Satan is characterized with great decisiveness, lack of remorse
whatsoever, and bold disobedience against the all mighty God. For this reason Satan remains
throughout the poem in the evil side, without the ability to make even a temporary transfer from the
dark side to the opposite heavenly side; hence Satan stays confined in the evil realm. On the other
hand, in Christopher Marlowe s play The Tragical History of the Life and Death of Doctor Faustus ,
Mephistopheles character represents a kind of villain that is somewhat easy to sympathize with.
Consequently, Marlowe s Mephistopheles is capable to represent the obvious side of evil and yet in
the same time to be an advocate in favor of repentance for Doctor Faustus. In Paradise Lost Milton
portrays Satan as the adversary to God. Although Milton does not portray God exactly as he is
described in the Bible, still he portrays God as the all mighty, the eternal, the creator of all creation,
and as the ultimate representation of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Faustus, his character presents certain flexibility. Accordingly his character sustains duplicity of a
fallen angel which belongs to the evil realm , while on the other hand he expresses his sincere regret
of the fact that he has been deprived the joys of heaven.
The key to seeing Faustus in this way is a particularly puzzling, initially ludicrous exchange between
Faustus and Mephistopheles. Mephistopheles gives his greatest speech, and Faustus gives one of his
bumptious and aesthetically unappreciative replies:
MEPHISTOPHELES : Why, this is hell, nor am I out of it. h ink st thou that I, who saw the face of
God
And tasted the eternal joys of heaven,
Am not tormented with ten thousand hells
In being deprived of everlasting

Essay Deforestation of The Pacific Northwest
Deforestation of the Pacific Northwest
One of the most controversial areas associated with the global problem of deforestation is the Pacific
Northwest of the US. The problem can be broken down into several issues that all tie in together.
These include the near extinction of the Northern Spotted Owl, the business aspect of logging versus
the environmental aspect, and the role of the government in this problem. In 1973, the Endangered
Species Act (ESA) was passed. This enabled the
Dept. of Commerce and Dept. of the Interior to place species, either land or marine, as either
threatened or endangered. Under these terms species could no longer be hunted, collected, injured or
killed. The northern spotted owl falls ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Seeing an animal in an artificial environment can certainly not be compared to witnessing an animal in
its natural environment. In my opinion, there can be no price put on the existence of any species on
this planet, plant or animal. To think that money has become such an influential part of our society that
companies are willing to sacrifice a species in order to make a profit. The northern spotted owl is only
one of many species that are on the verge of extinction do to deforestation. Another important
consideration in the deforestation of the Pacific North Coast is logging as a business. The investors of
a publicly owned company sole concern is the growth of their stock, and this for lumber companies is
accomplished by harvesting trees in the most efficient and cost effective manner. Clear cutting old
growth is the best way to accomplish this. This approach leads to quick financial gain but is not best
for the long term or the trees. It is the companies that use this process that is the most unfavorable to
the forests and contributes to deforestation the most. Another approach uses wise management
techniques to maximize the long term profit of the forest. Guest speaker Jerry
Howe would fall into this category as a private land owner. As a land
steward, he believes he can do what he wants with his land. The term
steward is used

My Trip From The Airport
My Trip to California
As we just finished going through the airport security my family and I were walking through Denver
International Airport all I could here was the chatter of people and the screeching of wheels on a
person s suitcase. I took a inhale of the smell and all I could smell is the subway we were next to. As I
kept walking I was confuzzled on where we were supposed to go, I asked my mom and she told me
We are going to Gate B45 . As we got there I was started to get hesitant because it was gonna be my
first time on a plane! Then we heard the flight attendant say over the speaker Now boarding flight to
Los Angeles, Gate B45 . As we stood up and got in line I was uneasy and eager at the same time. As I
went through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We left but first we saw EVERY exhibit there!!
The next day was pretty much the same, woke up,took a shower, and ate breakfast at the hotel. This
time around we went so Seaworld! When we first got there it was completely empty like barely
anyone there, except workers of course. We bought our tickets and went on. The first thing my family
and I did was go watch the Seal show. It was actually really funny, we sat in the Splash Zone and the
seals splashed so much water all over us and it got all of our stuff wet. Next, my brother and I went to
the humongous thrill rides, my favorite ride was the Manta . When we got on I was excited, I could
hear the wheels squeaking and then we took off I could feel the wind in my face my hair was waving
everywhere and I was having so much fun on the Manta. When we got off I rushed back to line with
my brother and said We re going on this again, I don t care what you say! And he agreed. It was the
same experience, fun, fast, chills, and much more. Later that day we met up to watch the dolphin show
with my family. We were waiting then all of a sudden we saw a bottlenose dolphin shoot out of the
water and I was amazed. I couldn t believe what all of these dolphins could do! I was still shocked
what these Dolphins could do. When we left I took a picture with the magnificent Dolphins of the
show. Sea world was on of the best and most amazing experiences of my trip to California.
I woke up to the crying

  • 2. Reflection Of Education While these are good values to have when starting my career as an educator, these abstract thoughts aren t going to get me anywhere unless I am able to translate them into practice. Upon reflection about how to do so, I was able to come up with a few ways on how to get these thoughts into educational practice. One important practice is to institute effective, positive and accurate communication with parents as soon as possible. Starting off the year with parent teacher conferences as early as possible will start off the year on a good note while finding out as much as possible about the...family s goals for their child s learning and development (YC). This extra work that the teachers need to put in is tripled for the parents; they have been dealing with their child and their needs since birth. Respecting and appreciating [this] extra work and being able to include positive comments about their child s successes and not just their shortcomings will go a long way in building up the respect from parents (YC). We need to keep in mind that some parents have had a long history of working with the government and other professionals that haven t been helpful and they might assume that you won t assist their child either. This is a challenge that can be addressed when first speaking to the parents and communicating with them that you are here to help and describe various ways to provide supports. Along with communication with the families, an important part of building a cohesive classroom is having techniques on controlling behaviors. This will include, in some instances, an FBA and BiP to curtail specific problem behaviors. For the most part, I will try and implement PBIS and other styles, like group contingency strategies, to manage my classroom. I hope that my class will respect me and therefore listen to the rules that we have in place. During the first day, as a class, we will come up with a rules list that is simple yet pervasive. After putting into effect these rules, the consequences will be clearly stated. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Kristallnacht Analysis After the defeat in WWI and the humiliation of the Treaty of Versailles, Germany faced an economic crash and was left under the rule of an unstable democracy. In times of desperate need, the German people favored the Nazi party and elected their own fascist leader, Adolf Hitler. While the Germans simply hoped for bread, work, and the restoration of German pride, they were given much more than they bargained for. Hitler created his own cult of personality and blinded the citizenry to his promotion of racist ideas and stereotypes, which eventually escalated into millions of deaths across Europe, and a war that changed the world. However, Germany s economy after World War I was left in shambles, to the point where people were living off of bread and water. The Führer took advantage of the people s fear and desperation and used it to forward his agenda, presenting himself as their light in the darkness. He created a cult of personality, not unlike those of dictators who ruled at the same time, such as Joseph Stalin Russia and Benito Mussolini of Italy, or even Kim Jong Un of today. An image from 1938 depicts the different Badges of Shame assigned to those in concentration camps, including Jews, homosexuals, immigrants, political enemies, and the mentally ill (Doc 7). Hitler took advantage of symbolism, and in this case used it to categorize and divide his targets, creating a social stigma around those who wore the stars and triangles. He further used symbolism in establishing unity among the German population and solidifying his cult following, by making forcing them to pledge their allegiance to him. An image from 1935 of a Nazi Rally in Nuremberg depicts a huge crowd of young Germans doing the Nazi salute (Doc 6). With a hand gesture stolen from the Romans, he made it his own by adding the words Heil Hitler! . In addition to using symbolism, Hitler used the media and appointed a Minister of Propaganda to build up a positive image. This hero worship allowed Hitler ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Importance Of College Tuition College Tuition: Why is it so high? After high school, people either go right into college or find a job and decide whether or not college is the right choice for them. The choice would be a lot simpler if college tuition wasn t so high. Nobody wants student loan debts following them for the rest of their lives. Lowering or even making college tuition free, will encourage more people to get an education and become successful. People shouldn t have to pay thousands of dollars, in order to try and better themselves with higher education. The price of textbooks are ridiculous as well. Colleges need to offer free online textbooks to their students There are many things that can be done to achieve free college tuition, for example, unnecessary expenses college programs have to offer, such as athletic programs. Our governments high budgeted military fund can also be cut and the money can be used for making college tuition free or even less expensive. Many countries already provide tuition free colleges to their students. So why is college tuition so expensive? College tuition has been increasing its price over the years. Supposedly, the reason for higher tuition, is inflation. According to an article on USA today, under the College section, In the past 12 months, the rate of inflation stood at 2.2%, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Colleges, however, appear to be increasing their tuition rates by nearly double the inflation rate a trend that has been consistent for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The term business ethics first started to be used in the United States in the early 1970 s as businesses were growing bigger and more powerful. Business ethics are guidelines or behaviors that businesses and individuals use daily to deal with the world, and even smaller situations they might find themselves in. Race, gender, age and religion all play a role in a person s ethics. The most important factor in a person s perspective of business ethics is religion, because there are so many different religious views. Jews believe that wanting wealth is wrong, and that it leads to envy or greed, which turns people away from God. Like Buddhism, though, Judaism believes that a person should just have what is necessary for them to survive and be happy. Judaism has rules that they follow as business ethics. Employers and employees have different rules to follow, because they are on different levels. One rule that Jews believe, is that an employer should not demand more from a worker than they are capable of doing. An employer is not allowed to embarrass, insult, or degrade an employee, and that they cannot hold a worker s payment due to a debt. Jewish employees should be allowed to leave work and return home before the sunsets on the Sabbath and holidays. The main rule for employees is that they are not allowed to waste time, slack off in their performance, interrupt their work, or have meaningless conversations while at work. Did you stand by and watch the situation and not intervene? If so, even with such a minor situation, you fell into the bystander effect theory. The bystander effect happens every day in our lives and dates all the way back to the Holocaust and even further back in history. The bystander effect theory is a psychological phenomenon were people do not help others in emergency situations when there are others present, the bigger the crowd the less likely chance of someone stepping in to help. People are just trying to live life and survive and if the situation is too out of control where we are talking about guns being involved, then that s where people would draw a line and not do anything to help. People start to fear that their own life becomes in danger if they try to intervene in something of that magnitude. I can completely understand why people would be more hesitant when it comes to helping others when they fear their own life can be taken from them. This type of fear is one of the main reason the Holocaust happened and people did very little to help the Jews. During the Holocaust there were mass killings involving huge crowds and a very massive witness group. The Germans were brain washed to think the Jews were horrible people and they blamed them for taking away their dignity as a country. There are reports of dozen of witness that stood by and did nothing to help. A photographer took pictures of a man, a Luthuanian, beating 30 40 men to death with a crow bar then watched as they sang their national anthem on top of the dead bodies. With a crowd so enormous and so many people with hate in their hearts it would be so hard for someone to intervene in that type of situation. The AncientGreeks discovered the very first natural magnet in the form of the lodestone, and Hippocrates, the father of medicine, noted it s healing powers (2). Unlike the United States, Japan, China, India, Austria, and Germany all are advanced in the field of magnetic therapy. (2). The United States does, though, use magnets in complex machines to help better understand the body and brain, such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), which uses magnetic fields to formulate 3 D images of the brain, and electroncephalogreaphs (EEG), which look at the electrical activity of the brain. The explanation: All cells that are alive are electrical; that is the outside of a cell has a negative charge and the inside, a positive charge. This combination of opposite charges allows the cell to function normally. When a part of the body becomes damaged, such as the body s tissue, the damaged area responds with inflammation, which is caused by a lack of blood flow. This lack of blood flow blocks the body s natural ability to provide oxygen and nutrients to the injured cells. Thus, the polarity of the cells gets out of whack. The role biomagnets play in aiding damaged tissue is based upon the belief that magnets can realign the cell s polarity, which helps the cell get back to functioning normally. They claim that an increase in the diameter of the body s blood vessels is also an affect of using a biomagnet on damaged tissue. This enlargement allows more blood, carrying rich nutrients and oxygen, to flow to the injured area and leave with tissue s toxins. (1) They also say that the magnet s energy has been described as a catalyst, which speeds up biological processes and enables the body to heal itself and ease pain. This catalyst stimulates blood circulation, allowing more oxygen to be distributed all over the body. (3) THE CLAIMS MADE ABOUT THE EFFECTIVENESS OF BIOMAGNETIC THERAPY AND ITS EVIDENCE No ... Currently, the teacher is holding office hours whenever possible, and although that is limited by the teachers availability, the formation of a study group is not. A school sponsored study group can be extremely beneficial for students who may otherwise feel awkward asking a classmate they just met if they would like to study together. One student stated, Most of what BHS would probably try to offer, most kids seek out on their own. It would be nice to set up a peer study group at a set location on days when teacher is not available if only for the students who don t have friends they feel they can rely on. That way no one feels excluded when it comes to studying, and those who typically cannot rely on teacher or friends have somewhere to go. From my own experience, all of my advanced courses in high school were filled with at least a few of my friends (perks of going to a smaller school), so finding help was not a huge issue. However, in college, study groups became my life outside the classroom. Last semester, I spent eight hours a week in study groups, and without them, I would have probably had to take a few courses again. Learning And Development Processes Of A Child The learning and development processes of a child have been debated for years, with no one theory sticking out as the best explanation as to how and why we learn. Looking at the behaviourist and humanist views of learning and development and the key theorists within them, you can see just how different they can be with their explanations of this. The key behaviourist views on learning are that learning is shaped by different incentives presented to the child. External stimulus shapes learning, as it prompts a response and increases the likelihood of the learner repeating the behaviour. Behaviourists believe development happens as a process of learning and that it has nothing to do with pre determined stages relating to a child s age and or mental ability. The behaviourist view works on a mix of operant and classical conditioning, operant conditioning is a process of learning where behaviour is controlled by consequences such as positive and negative reinforcements and positive and negative punishments. Classical conditioning is when the learner simply responds to external stimuli in a deterministic manner (Jordan, Carlile, and Stack, 2008). Pavlov, a behaviourist, looked deeply into the idea of classical conditioning and involuntary responses to stimuli. Pavlov looked at the responses of dogs and found that when the dog was presented with food the dog would salivate, which would be an unconditional response. But, when combined with the ringing of a bell as the food was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Horror movies have longed to serve a purpose which is to scare and also provide stories about the dark scary side of life. Three main characteristics of horror films are according to Maggie McCutcheon is scaring people into creating morals, Stephen King differs and says that horror films are made to let people s emotion and fears rein free, and Tim Dirks feels that a film must have certain characteristics for a horror film to be considered good . Horror films are not only meant to scare you but to also scare you into creating morals. Maggie McCutcheon discusses in her article Too Disturbing, Too Shocking , that the purpose for horror films is to scare you into having morals and it tells you how to act which benefits the society. This quote explains the purpose for horror films according to McCutcheon Despite their gore, they are almost always moral fables about how to act... , by telling you how to act they teach you main principles of what good and evil are. • 21. Cause And Effect Of Climate Change Climate change is one of the biggest news headlines of today. While there are skeptics that believe that global warming is just a hoax, there are many undeniable phenomenons happening around the world. The effects of climate change, in the long run, will be catastrophic if it is left alone. In just the past two months, there have been four hurricanes that made landfall in North America, and a wildfire more aggressive than has ever been seen before, ripping through California, killing forty people and leveling almost six thousand structures. Millions of Americans are displaced due to these unusually aggressive storms and the fires raging throughout California. Arctic species have seen massive reductions in their populations, with less food to eat, and less mates to breed with. The toxicity of the air in urban cities and contamination of waters outside these cities is on the rise. If the world keeps dismissing the importance of climate change, there will be calamitous consequences for the future generations. The effects of climate change, if not fixed, will be Arctic ice melting, reduction in animal populations, habitats threatened, and the air toxicity and seasonal allergies to humans. The causes include the greenhouse effect and air pollution. In the past decade, Americans have seen global warming in the headlines constantly. The Embarrassing Moment Of A Friend Of Mine I remember the embarrassing moment a friend of mine went through in class a few years ago, when she had organized some chronological images on the wall. The instructor completely tore her work apart because of her way of organization. Now in the world of design, most teachers get very upset when the work is hung crocked on the wall. But this was not the case with my friend. Her work was simply torn apart because of the direction she hung her pictures. Now most people in class, including the teacher and even herself weren t aware of the fact that she simply did that because she came from a middle eastern country where everything is organized from right to left. But I was well familiar with this problem. In fact, I grew up learning three languages at the same time in school. At age seven, I was learning to read and write in Persian, Assyrian, and English. In the beginning, it would take me a minute to remember which way to start from when writing an essay. For those of you who might not be familiar with these languages, Persian and Assyrian start from the right side of the line moving to the left and eventually to the bottom of the page. The numeric characters however, start from the left, and so does English. All these rights and lefts confused me very much, and yet, when I found out that some Asian languages had a top to bottom directionality, my mind was blown away. • 36. Analysis Of Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales Understanding the sources for a particular work is an important task for literary critics, because it ultimately leads to a better understanding and appreciation of the work itself. Sometimes similarities are so weak as to strain the credulity of theories propounding influence. At other times, the ties are so strong that influence is near certain. However, regardless of the strength of such ties, the alterations made to an original source are very potent cues as to authorial intention. In composing The Canterbury Tales, there is a broad diversity of tales told by a wide range of narrators. This indicates that Chaucer likely used a wide variety of sources. The alterations made by Chaucer to the source material for the Clerk s Tale, including Boccaccio s Decameron X, or The Story of Griselda, indicate Chaucer s motive to examine issues such as marriage as was found in Renaissance Italy, and to explore the state of mind of the Marquis, as well as Griselda. Chaucer not only layers psychological depth to Boccaccio s tale, but also adds to its traditional veneration of the obedient and tractable wife a genuine admiration for women in general. Much critical ink has been spilled contesting the power of influence Boccaccio s work in the Decameron had over Chaucer in writing The Canterbury Tales. Clinical signs of PCOS should also be confirmed through biochemical assays for all patients, and instead of only meeting two out of the three criteria, adolescents should meet four out of the five following criteria: oligo amenorrhea at least 2 years after menarche, clinical and biochemical hyperandrogenism, insulin resistance or hyperinsulinemia, and polycystic ovaries on ultrasound with biochemical evidence (Sultan Paris, 2006). There have even been numerous task forces calling for a revision of the Rotterdam criteria, particularly with regards to the definition of hyperandrogenism (Azziz et al., 2009). However, practitioners have endorsed none of these revisions. The purpose of this study was to establish the importance of biochemical assays in achieving early diagnosis of PCOS. Our results may provide a basis for an amendment of the Rotterdam criterion to improve diagnosis of PCOS in all patients, but especially ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The Black Slave Codes, Jim Crow Laws, And Color Line Especially considering the Civil Rights Movement was over 50 years ago. IT IS NO ACCIDENT that the pivotal Supreme Court decision launching the modern civil rights movement was an education case the 1954 Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka ruling. (Leadership Conference) For America present day, the change in race relation has changed, technically for no longer are acts of hatred as blatantly open and accepted; while they still do exist they are not as common and frequently exposed as appropriate. The Black Slave Codes, Jim Crow Laws, and Color Line are within our societies normative cluster cultures. This is where groups of culture habit a vicinity of likeness and share appropriations, such as racial norms, bed rocked by realtor support, financed lender discrimination, city property tax inequality increases, and school zonings. These are some of the new erected obstacles that blacks face when trying to assimilate into a society not made for their habituation. Now don t take my word for it, but just as a Racist would claim their non racist ways, so would an individual who bares no observation from the receiving end of inequality. Just take for example the school teacher interviewed during a psychological experiment in Europe on Racism. (Elliot, Jane) In the South, anti Black violence declined. Black candidates were elected to political offices in communities where blacks had once been barred from voting, and many of the leaders or organizations that came into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I really enjoyed how the author uses Romanian mythology to create this complex world in the series. The book moved at a fast pace and kept me interested until the very end. The only part of the book that I wished the author made would be to add more action because a lot people who read this book think it s just about vampires in high school, but the second book features so much action. Overall I would recommend reading this book because it is the first book that introduces the characters and story plot in the six book series. I will read the next six books in the series because I really enjoy the storyline. I hope the action will pick up in the next books and I am excited to learn more about characters throughout the series. I think the book will be easy to relate to teenagers around the age of the main characters who are facing danger at every turn, but still are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Grapheme Color Synesthesia Synesthesia was discovered back in the 1880s when Francis Galton described a condition where he thinks of numbers in visual imagery, which is known as synesthesia today. Synesthesia is the experience in which a stimulation of one sense triggers an additional sensory experience (Rothen Mejer, 2010). In other words, it is a condition where the senses are cross linked, and the experience is automatic and reliable (Rich, Bradshaw, Mattingley, 2005). A common type of synesthesia is called the grapheme color synesthesia, which is when people experience seeing colors when they come across any letters or numbers even though the font color is black. For instance, the letter A to a synesthete may be a red color, and the number three may be a blue ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The encoded stimulus is richer for synesthetes compared to people without synesthesia. Also there is a performance advantage when the subjects recall the spoken or written words (Gross, Neargarder, Caldwell Harris Cronin Golomb, 2011; Rothen Ward, 2012). In Gross et al. s (2011) study, they recruited nine color graphemic synesthetes using a standardized neuropsychological measure that would trigger color graphemic synesthesia for verbal tasks. One verbal test that they used was the Paired Verbal Associates test. For this test, participants were to learn eight pairs of standard shapes and nonsense shapes. Some trials had immediate recall or a 30 minute delay. In all trials, the synesthetic participants recalled the standard shape when presented with the nonsense shape. This test was altered to reduce potential differences between the participant s synesthesia and the colors, by exchanging the colored squares with the line drawings of familiar shapes. A one way ANOVA was conducted for each trial. It revealed that all synesthetes reached ceiling on trial 3 and 4 (M=5.0 +/ 1.7), while none of the control participants reached ceiling (M= 2.89 +/ 2.2). Their results were very similar to Rothen and Meier s (2010) results. For the most part, their findings supported the cue induced encoding/retrieval hypothesis. Significant results were elicited by the tests ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Crisis management; BP Introduction When an organization is in a crisis, it dominates the organization s agenda and requires immediate action. The way the organization responds to a crisis can differ in many ways. In this essay I would like to discuss the crisis of the British concern British Petroleum (BP). At first I would like to provide more information about the crisis and its consequences, then I will identify the kind of crisis we have to deal with, I will discuss the several communication strategies BP have used, I will explain the different reactions of the public on the crisis. At last, I will give the oil concern some advice, in case a reoccurrence takes place. The BP oil spill The BP oil spill was a big natural disaster in the Gulf of Mexico ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... BP made mistake after mistake and it seems like Tony Hayward did not attend any media training. It is almost impossible to deny that a lot of things went wrong in the communication concerning the explosion of the platform and the following oil spill of the British oil concern BP. In the first instance, BP denied there was oil leaking out of the oil well. After that BP trivialized the consequences of the ecocatastrophe. Even the CEO Tony Hayward made some dull statements. What did BP do wrong? BP made a big mistake right after the explosion. They were not open and honest about the situation. First they denied the oil spill. When it became clear that there was definitely an oil spill, BP denied there would be any consequences for the environment and trivialized the situation later on. The Gulf of Mexico is a very big ocean. The amount of volume of oil and dispersant we are putting into it is tiny in relation to the total water volume said top executive Hayward, while scientists, biologists and satellite images proved the opposite. The photo shopped images of the crisis did little good for the oil concern. In the first weeks of the crisis BP used two Nonexistence strategies . BP used the denial strategy which means that they gave a simple statement denying that the crisis existed. After the denial strategy BP used the clarification strategy . This strategy was an ... • 45. Sympathetic Villain In Doctor Faustus On the Differences between the Ultimate to the Sympathetic Villain In John Milton s Paradise Lost Satan represents the ultimate villain, a genuine representation of the dark side. For this reason, Milton s Satan is characterized with great decisiveness, lack of remorse whatsoever, and bold disobedience against the all mighty God. For this reason Satan remains throughout the poem in the evil side, without the ability to make even a temporary transfer from the dark side to the opposite heavenly side; hence Satan stays confined in the evil realm. On the other hand, in Christopher Marlowe s play The Tragical History of the Life and Death of Doctor Faustus , Mephistopheles character represents a kind of villain that is somewhat easy to sympathize with. Consequently, Marlowe s Mephistopheles is capable to represent the obvious side of evil and yet in the same time to be an advocate in favor of repentance for Doctor Faustus. In Paradise Lost Milton portrays Satan as the adversary to God. Although Milton does not portray God exactly as he is described in the Bible, still he portrays God as the all mighty, the eternal, the creator of all creation, and as the ultimate representation of ... Accordingly his character sustains duplicity of a fallen angel which belongs to the evil realm , while on the other hand he expresses his sincere regret of the fact that he has been deprived the joys of heaven. The key to seeing Faustus in this way is a particularly puzzling, initially ludicrous exchange between Faustus and Mephistopheles. Mephistopheles gives his greatest speech, and Faustus gives one of his bumptious and aesthetically unappreciative replies: MEPHISTOPHELES : Why, this is hell, nor am I out of it. h ink st thou that I, who saw the face of God And tasted the eternal joys of heaven, Am not tormented with ten thousand hells In being deprived of everlasting ... • 46. Essay Deforestation of The Pacific Northwest Deforestation of the Pacific Northwest One of the most controversial areas associated with the global problem of deforestation is the Pacific Northwest of the US. The problem can be broken down into several issues that all tie in together. These include the near extinction of the Northern Spotted Owl, the business aspect of logging versus the environmental aspect, and the role of the government in this problem. In 1973, the Endangered Species Act (ESA) was passed. This enabled the Dept. of Commerce and Dept. of the Interior to place species, either land or marine, as either threatened or endangered. Under these terms species could no longer be hunted, collected, injured or killed. The northern spotted owl falls ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Seeing an animal in an artificial environment can certainly not be compared to witnessing an animal in its natural environment. In my opinion, there can be no price put on the existence of any species on this planet, plant or animal. To think that money has become such an influential part of our society that companies are willing to sacrifice a species in order to make a profit. The northern spotted owl is only one of many species that are on the verge of extinction do to deforestation. Another important consideration in the deforestation of the Pacific North Coast is logging as a business. The investors of a publicly owned company sole concern is the growth of their stock, and this for lumber companies is accomplished by harvesting trees in the most efficient and cost effective manner. Clear cutting old growth is the best way to accomplish this. This approach leads to quick financial gain but is not best for the long term or the trees. It is the companies that use this process that is the most unfavorable to the forests and contributes to deforestation the most. Another approach uses wise management techniques to maximize the long term profit of the forest. Guest speaker Jerry Howe would fall into this category as a private land owner. As a land steward, he believes he can do what he wants with his land. The term steward is used ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
