An article on The Age called, Fancy a roast like mum makes? is based on a company called The
Dinner Ladies, a Sydney based home cooked meal delivery service. The business, founded seven
years ago, successfully manages to utilize several effective marketing concepts including the

Alongside marketing interventions, for instance advertising campaigns, market based assets are
essential in the determination of the likelihood of future sales. Market based assets are defined as the
mental and physical availability that makes a brand easier to buy for more people, in more situations
(Sharp, 2013, p.14). The Dinner Ladies effectively increase the

Reflection Paper On Powerlifting Moment
Powerlifting Progression
After enduring months of intense conditioning, the time came for us to see if our work paid off. It was
testing week for varsity football and bench press day had arrived. I maxed out at 335 pounds at the
beginning of the year and I was looking to make some gains. I did my dynamic warm up and static
stretches and hit a few reps of 300 pounds to stimulate blood flow. Routinely reaching for my
weightlifting belt, I arrived at a dilemma. The belt evidently grew a conscience of its own and decided
not to function. Presented with a chance to test the nature of my raw muscle, I had to visualize lifting
365 pounds without the aid of a weightlifting belt. I sat down and performed my normal pre lift rituals
to gain composure. Gradually lying backward, I grasped the bar as I adjusted my back to the bench.
With a deep breath, I un racked the bar and claimed the strongest bench press in the history of the
school. This record, however, was not the only accolade I acquired from powerlifting.
As a powerlifter, I am continuously prompted to assess my physical condition at any given time. This
awareness is very crucial because it has helped me balance the degree that I increase the intensity of
my workout to get stronger with the appropriate recovery time that allows my muscles to recuperate.
As the complexity of my workout progresses, my overall physical development follows suit. Knowing
that advancement in the weight room is enhanced through awareness, I greatly utilize this
understanding of growth when considering my intellectual progression.
If I want to become stronger in a particular lift, I start by highlighting details in individual segments of
that lift that can be improved. I make similar observations in regards to my intellectual state; for
example, stability exists as the foundation of my outlook on the world. From the atmosphere of my
upbringing as a homeschool student, to my pastimes as a powerlifter and critical thinker, stability
gives meaning to many properties that comprise my character. Being the third of eight children, most
of the things I do have already been done before at least once in my family. I am often tasked with an
expectation to succeed solely because of this precedent,

Positive Effects Of Four Day Workweek
Work life balance has been a popular topic for employees across all age and occupations for years,
representing a rising concern of contemporary human resource management and labor policies. This
topic has attracted the attention from the millennium generation, who is stepping into the market and
beginning to grow a career. Therefore considering the increasing demand, well designed workforce
planning with diverse scheduling options offered to employees appears to be extra credits for most
companies. This research paper aims to communicate the positive effects of four day workweek, and
providing support for why employers should adopt this schedule for employees and themselves
through 1) introducing background and history of four day workweek as a work schedule option and
2) demonstrating benefits of four day workweek from both employer and employees perspectives.
Background and History of Four day Workweek Schedule
Before introducing the workplace issues related to the development of four day workweek, a clear
definition of this schedule is needed. According to Department of Labor (n.d.), A workweek is a fixed
and regularly recurring period of 168 hours, or seven consecutive 24 hour periods. The workweek
does not have to coincide with the calendar week, but instead it may begin on any day of the week and
at any hour of the day. It might be the four day, 32 hour workweek more leisure, less work (Wernette
1), or the three day, 40 hour, compressed work week that Vega

Summary Of A Red Girl s Reasoning
In the short story, A Red Girl s Reasoning by Pauline Johnson, Charlie and Christie s cultural
differences and personality flaws act as a catalyst towards the sudden downfall of their relationship.
This is demonstrated through Christie s excessive pride, Charlie s self absorption, and his lack of open
mindedness regarding his wife s Indigenous culture and perspective. To begin, Christie s stubborn and
prideful nature is exhibited throughout the story. This is evident when she defends her parents
marriage to Charlie s colleagues, Mrs. Stuart and Captain Logan, exclaiming, What do you [Captain
Logan] dare to mean? [...] Do you for one instant dare to question that my parents were not as legally
(Johnson 6) but is interrupted by Mrs. Stuart. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Charlie s constant concern over his reputation and public image further enforces his self centered
behaviour. Finally, Charlie s narrow mindedness regarding Christie s Indigenous culture is one of the
main causes of their tragic dispute. Although Charlie claims to have extensive knowledge of Christie s
Indigenous roots by [consummating] his predilections for Indianology by loving, winning, and
marrying the quiet little daughter of the English trader, who [...] had married a native woman (1), he
fails to recognize that her ancestral traditions are just as valid as his own. This close minded
perspective is shown when Charlie fails to defend his wife when she was explaining her parents Indian
marriage rites to Charlie s Christian colleagues. Furthermore, Charlie criticizes her father s decision to
not re marry in the Christian church, arguing that Christie s father was a fool not to insist upon the law

The Impact Of Substance Abuse On Mental Health
This paper examines current research and literature based on the impact of substance abuse on mental
health. Mental health is defined as those conditions in a society leading to a situation where people in
their individual capacities, and in interaction with one another as members of groups are able to live
lives of quality in all contexts of their existence (Psychological Association of South Africa, 1989, p.
5).
A substance, otherwise known as a drug , alters mental states such as mood, perception or
consciousness when taken by a living organism (Fuhr, 1978). In the latest edition of the Diagnostic
and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM 5) substance abuse, also known as addiction, is
considered a disease (Griffin, 2015).
Substance use in South Africa has a long history (Meghdadpour, 2010). Researchers estimated that
there were over 3 million orphaned infants residing in South Africa and that these orphaned ... Show

to mental health.
This study aims to provide a critical examination of existing literature and theoretical frameworks of
the cause and effects of substance abuse on the mental health of those residing in underprivileged
conditions. Through this study, the researcher will illustrate the nature and extent of the short and long

The Mayas Lifestyle Essay
The Mayas Lifestyle
The Life of the Ancient Maya s
The Maya s were an ancient civilization that faced many difficult tasks in their everyday lives that
needed to be completed in order for survival. The Mayan tribes existed from about 400 BC until
around 1524 when they were taken over by the Spanish conquistadors (Sharer p.3). They occupied
three separate areas of land.
The Southern area covers present day Guatemala. The central area stretched from what is now
Tabasco to northern Guatemala. Finally the central region makes up a lot of the southern portion of
Mexico (Coe p.31). The Maya s believed that the universe was not the first, but the 7th. Floods

Also if a man was walking down the road the women had to step aside out of his way and turn their
backs (Sharer p.119). The men continued to live in the group houses until they were appointed or
found a bride (Sharer p.120). Before the men were married though they were only allowed to paint
themselves in black paint but, once they were married they were allowed to paint themselves in every
color and were expected to tattoo their bodies (Thompson p.118). The bride s father was expected to
pay for the entire ceremony. Most times marriages were arranged while the children were still young
(Sharer p.120).
The Birth of children was one of the most looked upon ceremonies amongst the Maya s. When a baby
was born his mother would wash him right away and then fasten him to a cradle. This served as a
baptism (Laughton p.98). The Shaman who conducted the ceremony determined each child s paal
kaba given name (Sharer p.118). When male babies were about 4 months old and 3 months for girls,
the Hetzmek was performed. This was a ceremony celebrating the first time that the baby is carried at
the mother s hip (Sharer p.118). At age 4 girls were given a red shell to tie around their waist. Boys
wore a white bead. These accessories were worn until the child reached puberty (Sharer pgs.118 119).
When the Maya went through puberty he was considered an adult. At this time he was given 2 names,
one from the mother and one from the father. Only the father s were

Benefits Of A Proactive Strategic Procurement Operation
INTRODUCTION
Every organisation requires goods and services from external suppliers or providers as no company is
an Island. These goods are to be acquired at the right time, right source, right quality of materials,
right quantity and also these goods are to be of the right price in order to give the organisation an
advantage over its competitors( competitive advantage) allowing it to generate greater sales and retain
more customers than its competition. We will be looking at HEWLETT PACKARD. Hewlett Packard
emphasis has gone beyond just reacting to the needs of users as and when they arise, to a forward
looking proactive approach. This reflects the contribution that the management makes.

Going to low cost countries to source has plenty of advantages, but it has to be done right. ( The
Boston consulting Group 2008)
Hewlett Packard is the case study of this work, procurement being a broad topic, we will concentrate
on three main areas for the purpose of these work. Brief understanding of them;
GLOBAL SOURCING:
Global sourcing can be simply defined as coordinating and integrating of procurement requirement
across worldwide business units. Mostly practised by large organisations because they are the ones
that have the need, leverages and facilities around the globe to enable them apply the process to gain
competitiveness from global sourcing. They are usually in a contract with other large corporations
who have the ability to supply the products to their sites located globally. Many organisations are
meeting the need for lower cost by moving to foreign countries where there are less regulations that
interferes with the manufacturing process, where they can find cheaper labour and thereby lower the
cost of basic plant, personnel cost and also operational cost. Sourcing and outsourcing which have
developed over time are the two basic methods of foreign manufacturing and it helps in making the
best choice for global supply chains. Some basic things need to be considered before outsourcing,
sometimes companies outsource when it does not make any sense. Eg if a

The Food Safety Policy Of The European Union
Introduction
Everybody loves food, everybody has to eat. Unfortunately not all food is safe for us to consume, even
though it may appear to be safe. There are over 200 known microbial, chemical or physical agents that
can cause illness when ingested(Acheson, 1999). There has to be regulations to keep the US and EU
citizens healthy and protected from these harmful agents in our food. In the United States, this is
where the FDA(Food and Drug Administration) the CDC(Centers for Disease Control) and the
USDA(United States Department of Agriculture) step in. The FDA controls food and drug regulations,
the CDC helps identify pathogen and diseases and the USDA deals with meat and poultry regulations.
In the European Union(EU) a close FDA ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The 1990s was the decade that Europe was hit with the Mad Cow disease crisis that caused a great
number of the EU citizens to distrust their government. In response to this distrust, the government
came up with different studies and initiatives to change and reorganize food safety(Halkier Holm,
2006)policy. Today, because of the constant race to defend against food borne illnesses, the European
Union has one of the highest food safety standards in the world. The European Commission developed
an integrated approach to food safety which they call from farm to table . The goal is to address all
problems in all sectors of the food chain before they get to the consumers plate. These sectors include:
feed production, primary production, food processing, storage, transport and retail sale. The EU has
implemented a number of legislation pieces to achieve this goal such as: the General Food Law, a new
general Food Safety Policy, and the European Food Safety Authority(EFSA). The European Food
Safety Authority provides scientific advice and support to the authorities who regulate food safety and
they also find ways to communicate its scientific finding to the public. In addition, there are a few
other initiatives and agencies that help deal with food safety such as the Rapid Alert System for Food
and Feed. This is a system that very quickly alerts authorities and the

Defense Mechanisms And The Defense Mechanism
Everyone has a few coping techniques to reduce anxiety from unacceptable or even harmful impulses.
These coping techniques are performed unconsciously and they are known as defense mechanisms.
When a body uses a defense mechanism they are attempting to distort, deny, or manipulate their
reality to defend their self schema. There are a few different types of defense mechanisms many of
which classified by Anna Freud that would later appear in the works of Sigmund Freud. The
psychiatrist George Eman Vaillant introduced a way of organizing the mechanisms into a system of
levels. The level system is as follows: level I is about pathological defences, level II explains
immature defences, level III neurotic defences, and lastly level IV mature defences. An individual
could use multiple different defense mechanisms from different levels though. For example a person
could be using an immature defense mechanism such as regression and a mature mechanism like
humor. This essay will delve into the description of these levels and the defense mechanisms they
contain. Pathological defenses usually occur from someone who unconsciously preserves their
traditional aspects of life. They will think very totalistic and rigidly since they are trying to preserve
what they believe they won t make any compromises. One pathological defense mechanism would be
projection. Projection occurs when someone has a value that says they should act a certain way, then
their value is challenged and

Stereotypes In The Woman Warrior
The woman warrior by Maxine Kingston elaborates readers what it was like to grow up as a female
Chinese American. Kingston came to America as a little girl with her family. Even though she was in
America, she still had to deal with old Chinese traditions. Traditions where women were seen as
useless and as slaves. But, Kingston refused to believe that women are worthless. She states, When
one of my parents or the emigrant villagers said, feeding girls is feeding cowbirds , I would thrash on
the floor and scream so hard (pg. 46). Therefore, Kingston fabricates her own versions of stories
where she portrays herself as a warrior who is a hero rather than a useless individual.
I believe Kingston tells stories to obliterate social perceptions of the woman in the traditional Chinese
society. Based on Chinese traditions that Kingston cultured from her parents and the stories that her
mother told, Kingston was under the perception that Chinese girls must only become a good wife and
bare children. However, I believe Kingston refused the gender role defined by the traditional Chinese
culture and used fictionalized stories to showcase that women are capable of doing masculine things
and at the same time can be a great mother or a wife. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Kingston uses her stories for a completely different approach. She uses her stories to portray
the woman, mainly herself, as a hero in the traditional Chinese society. The story of Fa Mu Lan
described in the chapter white tigers provides an alternative to the traditional Chinese beliefs about the
place of woman in the society. Kingston, portrays herself as a worrier who fights in place of her father.
I believe, she used this story to show that women are both capable of being a warrior and carrying out
their duties as a wife or a

Schizophrenia is perhaps the least understood and most frightening of the mental disorders. One
percent of the world population is affected by it and the World Health Organisation has ranked it as the
seventh greatest cause of disability worldwide (Frangou, 2008). On average it takes one to one and

Lansdowne Hercules Research Paper
Discovered in 1790 on Hadrian s Villa in Tivoli, Italy, Lansdowne Heracles is an iconic structure that
has withstood the test of time. It is the statue of Greek hero Hercules (known as Herakles by the
Greeks), and he is best known the Twelve Labours he carried out for King Euryntheus of Argos.
Ancient artists usually portrayed Hercules as wearing or holding associated with these achievements,
and this is why in The J. Paul Getty Museum the Lansdowne Heracles is shown holding a club and a
lion s skin, which was his first labour for the King. Another feature prominent in Lansdowne Heracles
is that Hercules is always shown as being nude, and this is because historically in Greece, male nudity
was considered the highest form of beauty. This is the reason most Greek statues are nude. Since the
statue was discovered in Italy, questions arise as to whether Lansdowne Heracles is Roman or Greek.
Considering the facts that will be presented here, history of the Greek and the fact that Hercules was a
Greek hero, the sculpture must be Greek. While archeologists are unanimous that the Statue of
Hercules was sculptured in a Roman workshop in the 2nd century A.D, they believe that it was

The Statue of Hercules shows him carrying a club and a Nemean lion s skin, which are associated with
his first labor. The Nemean lion was a beast found on the hills of Nemea, which were located in
Greece. Subsequent feats that he undertook were all around Greece and therefore, this is enough proof
that the structure could be Greek rather than Roman. When Hercules died, he was carried to Mount
Olympus by Athena where he spent the rest of his eternity as a god (Scott, 2013). Most statues of
Hercules are sculptured to portray him as a god, and since this mythology originated from ancient
Greece, it is only right to assume that the sculpture is

The Pros And Cons Of Pornography And Prostitution
George Bernard Shaw once said pornographic novelist is one who exploits the sexual instinct as a
prostitute does. A legitimate sex novel elucidates it or brings out its poetry, tragedy, or comedy. In
other words, Shaw argues that pornography and prostitution is somewhat the same besides
pornography is considered legal while prostitution is illegal.
According to legal researchers, the headlines are constantly filled with new stories of politicians quite
literally caught with their pants down in scandals with prostitutes. This often raises the question of
why prostitution is not treated in the same way as pornography. Researchers asked, why is sex for
money okay in one setting and not another ? The distinction between the two is straight forward. The
finding of porn performances constitutes acting subject to the artistic expression protections, which is
the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. Although, the distinction is that porn stars are
paid to act, and prostitutes are paid for sex.
Researchers made it clear that performers may engage in sex as part of their roles, but that does not
count as sex for hire . It was also brought to the attention of researchers Sex during creating a movie
or a photo is an expression protected under the First Amendment. Generally, the one paying for the sex
is also different than the one receiving the benefit of that act, further distancing it from a strictly sex
for money arrangement . Some free of speech parties argue that even first person movies should be
afforded this protection, though no significant cases have gone to court .
Reporters state, while recorded sexual performances have been relatively protected, live performances
are much less so. Compared with sexually explicit media, live sex shows have very little protection
under the law, though the Supreme Court in Oregon did overturn two state laws concerning sex shows
on free speech and expression grounds in 2005 .
The turning point in the porn and prostitution debate occurred in the 1980 s in California. Prosecutors
argued that an adult film producer named Harold Freeman was guilty of pimping because he had hired
five women to perform sex acts for a movie called Caught from Behind II.

Compare And Contrast Walter And Mama In A Raisin In The Sun
In the book A Raisin in the Sun by Larraine Hansberry, Walter and Mama are the two most influential
characters to the plot. Walter is obnoxious and always thinks about himself while Mama is forceful
and very strict. They both play a major role in the story. Both have changed or impacted the plot and
characters feelings and or thoughts. Without them in the story it would be very different. Walter is a
very important character and impacts everybody by his actions and what he says and does. Walter
changes a lot throughout the story. He begins to become very hostile and short tempered towards his
family. He starts to lose all his family values and only starts to worry and care about the check that is
coming in. He says, did it come? will somebody please listen to me today!!! This shows that he wants
everyone to listen to his idea about what he wants to do with the money. While he wants this, he
shows no care or regard to anyone else s ideas or thoughts about it. The quotes show how selfish and
rude he is, also it shows how he has lost of all his family s values because he won t even listen to
anybody else. Walter has changed his whole family. He has started so much conflict with all his
family. His family at this rate will be better off without him. You ain t looked at it yet and you don t
aim to speak on that again? You ain t looked at it and you have decided well, you tell that to my boy
tonight when you put him to sleep on the living room couch. This just shows how much he wants to
have HER money for himself because he is selfish and a shallow person. He is the reason why the
family is tearing apart. Also, Walters actions show how edgy and inpatient he is. (Violently flinging
the coat after her) He starts to get very violent, he flings things, slams doors, yells at mama, and starts
to get verbally abusive towards her. He doesn t know how to let things go and how to think in another
person s perspective. He only wants to do what he wants, he doesn t care what the other family
members want he just knows what he wants to get and forces the decision upon them all. In this book

The Issue Of The United States Congress
Today, 27 million slaves exist in the world. Many think slavery ended in 1865, but slavery has been
going on forever. Not just 27 million people live in slavery; it is estimated more than 4.5 million are
trapped in forced sexual exploitation globally ( Sex Trafficking in the U.S.... ). In 1850, the height of
slavery in the Americas for the production of tobacco and cotton, the United States Census showed 3

forced labor; they faced many problems in 2012 dealing with forced labor and awful working
conditions. Workers in Apple factories received pay for only a part of the time they worked, and the
pay given was only about $1 an hour. Workers described the conditions as excessive overtime without
a single day off a week, living together in crowded dorms and exposure to dangerous chemicals, and
standing so long our legs swell where we can t walk after a 24 hour shift (Duell). Apple threatened to
fire employees if they left a 24 hour shift, even though by law, employees cannot work more than a 12
hour shift. On top of the threat of a worker losing their jobs, Apple also did not pay workers for their
excessive, overtime hours. Therefore, Congress needs to pass legislation that requires companies to
address human trafficking, so customers can make informed decisions and companies can take strides
towards fair trade. When customers

The Decision Of The Fourteenth Amendment On The Color Of...
having children attend school based on the color of their skin was unconstitutional and it damaged
children, especially African American children. The Court concluded that it was in violation of the
Fourteenth Amendment to keep individuals separate based on the color of their skin. The decision in
Brown was one of extreme importance and significance that could have represented a new start in the
Supreme Court regarding civil rights cases. However, that was not the case, after Brown II the
Supreme Court refused to hear a case that was on appeal: Naim v. Naim, Mr. Naim and Mrs. Naim one
were white and the other was Chinese. The two individuals were residents of Virginia, where it was
illegal for a white person to marry a person who was not white. The couple traveled to North Carolina
to get married. After a while Mrs. Naim decided that the marriage wasn t going to work so she sued
her husband for an annulment claiming that their marriage was not valid because of the law in
Virginia. Mr. Naim appealed to the Supreme Court and as the court was breaking down the
segregation system they chose not to hear the case. Naim v. Naim was an embarrassment only because
it was out of the question, in 1955, that the Court upheld the constitutionality of a law prohibiting
interracial marriage yet the constitutional object . This again emphasizes the weight and importance of
the framing of the Fourteenth Amendment. The framers chose the option that meant the Constitution

Marketing Mix And Telephone Operator O2
Introduction There is no single indicator of performance but a variety of different measures which
provide an insight into a telephone operator s economic, social, managerial and consumer
perspectives. These may relate to price, quality, user choice or efficiency. A good performance in one
service does not allow one to predict a favourable performance in other aspects and no operator can
claim to be perfect in all of these respects. In a highly competitive business environment like the
telecommunications industry, subscriber based service models are something of a mandate In markets
like these, business successes can be validated by a very low churn rates. _Churn rate is a wide term
and can be applied to a company s customer base, revenue, employee turnover etc._ This is ideally a
result of the deployment of successful business models and a logical application of the marketing mix
and telephone operator O2, in the recent years, have been repeatedly getting the combination right. O2

A Report On Flight Service
The courteous and attentive in flight service determines if every passenger has a sound experience
while they are traveling by airplane. In fact, the in flight service is made more complicated by four
principal components following: the safety of aircraft, excellent facilities, an entertainment system and
dining service. The dining service will be the only object of the analysis to avoid confusion. People
tend to dislike airline food because of its terrible taste, though it was the highlight of the air travel in
the past. Meanwhile, it is a fascinating object to study because it has no need of the large economies of
scale, but it has many barriers to entry on account of the very high standards for the chef. As a kind of
by product of the airline industry, although launching a new business in the market of the airline meal
is risky, it would be worth taking a gamble in the short run. The appropriate examples in the market of
the airline meal can be used to define the product and the market in turn. In the process, people can
have a very clear notion of market of the airline meal and form their opinion on the question that if a
new company should enter the market. The product of the in flight dining, the meals served by the
crew, is a diversified private good. A private product in economics is defined to be the excludable and
rivalrous good. The meal is a kind of private good because the meal is rival, in other words, the food
eaten by a person cannot be shared to and

Confucianism
What is the ideal person supposed to be or do? In any religious system, this is always the paramount
question. Confucianism itself is not a religion, per se, but a set of first principles of social organization
and behavior, so there are no larger otherworldly implications to the Confucian plan for humanity. For
Confucius, life consists of ethical principles: the central problem with humanity is anything which
exacerbates human tendencies towards social disharmony. The Confucian system is one in which
social order is paramount: Douglas Soccio defines Confucius not as a religious figure or philosopher
per se, but as the social sage (Soccio 33). Confucius offers no prescriptions about deities or the
afterlife, but instead gives rules of conduct in essence a manual of etiquette, which manages to raise
etiquette to the level of a Kantian moral imperative which results in the larger set of ethical precepts
that comprise the teachings of Confucius. For Confucius, the goal for every human being is to live in
greatest harmony within society, which means adhering to specifically defined social roles. In some
sense, Confucianism is not a religion but it places its most reverent attitudes towards the idea of
education Confucius himself is presented as no more than a teacher (of right behavior, of rules of
conduct, more than a teacher of moral inquiry) and good education is central to the Confucian concept
of good behavior and for its fairly circumscribed sense of any the larger

The Compact Theory And Its Impact On The Federal And...
The Compact Theory, which mostly designed by Québec Nationalist, indeed, has been the impact on
the federal and provincial relations. Prior to 1867 constitutions, there was not a central or federal
government; it was only English and French speaking people in Canada. In other word, the 1867 was
basically an agreement between English and French people in Canada. Provincial rights and federal
provincial relations has also many conflicts which began very early after the 1867 Constitutions. The
provincial rights and provincial independents are few conflicts between the provinces and the federal
government; Québec in particular plays a role, because it s a homeland of francophone, and delivers
the most impact on the relationship between Canada ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a country of different nations and each nation allowed a different territory. Under the BNAAct
those expansive matters fittingly treated nationally, like defence and post office, were under the
federal government, while controls over property, local issues, districts, and most private law matters
went to the provinces. The setting of the constitution was a hierarchy system from the colonial office
to provincial legislatures . The compact theory lets us believe, that the provincial legislature were the
privilege voice and the means of the expression of the people of those provinces. The federal
government does not represent a voice of Ontarian or people of Québec. Most Canadian, believe that
provinces represent more closely the interest of each their own people than the federal government
does.
The founder of BNAAct created two levels of governments out of political expediency, as a political
convenience. They could not have two countries, but rather, they could have two levels of government
instead. The problem is that by creating two levels of government, the British did not realize that they
are going to give an objective, tangible structure that can be the base of compact theory. After
Confederation, Québec premiers Honoré Mercier and Oliver Mowat allied to built the strongest record
of provincial rights advocacy . Both premiers advocated for compact theory which compared the BNA
Act to a settlement that could be changed only by the unanimous assent

Understanding The Environment Of Demographics
Demographic Environment
Understanding Demographics:
The Business Dictionary defines Demographics as Socioeconomic characteristics of a population
expressed statistically, such as age, sex, education level, income level, marital status, occupation,
religion, birth rate, death rate, average size of a family, average age at marriage, etc. Demographics
imply to people, people become customers, they eventually buy the products, and that is when the
company really works.
From a business or marketing point of view, demographic data plays a very essential role in
understanding people, their behaviour patterns, and their interests or preferences. Collection and
analysis of data is more often than not, the first step towards every business venture, expansion, and
promotion. It helps the retailers and marketers to segment the population and choose their target
audience, which provides the basis for developing an attractive product mix for their clientele or
creating an appealing marketing campaign.
Demographic Segmentation:
One of the main reasons why demographic segmentation is the most popular form of segmenting the
customer market is because majority of the demographic data required to make business decisions is
easily available in the form of census. Census is the official collection of data for every member of a
population. It is not just a count of individuals, but also a recording of various details of those
individuals.
Demographic Segmentation is the method of dividing the

Man Is Not An Individual
Man is not an individual. He is a social organism. God loves him only who serves other beings man,
cattle and other creatures. His glory lies in being a member of a big family. On the one hand, man is
bound by blood kinship his parents, his wife , his children and on the other , he is linked with every
individual of society whether near or far from his, it is given to man to link himself with those who
constitute his ancestry and also think of those who would be his posterity. Man possessed of certain
inalienable rights. Thus lives, works and dies for society. Man is expected to develop his craft, science
and technology and lead society from poverty to prosperity with a happy today and a happier
tomorrow.
Crime is inevitable in human society. No doubt , we have progressed a lot in every sphere of life and
struggle to achieve immortality is going on, but yet in this journey from animal way of life to the
human way of life, still we are haunted by the thought of animal instincts. Every where some human
beings have fallen outside the pattern of permitted conduct. It is best to fact that crime cannot be
abolished except in a non existence utopia. Commenting on this aspect Durkherim in his treatise a
crime as a normal phenomenon says, a society composed of persons with angelic qualities would not
be free from violation of the norms of that society . In fact, crime is a constant phenomenon changing
with the social change.
At the same time all civilized societies want a peaceful

Literary Analysis Of Saki s The Interlopers
Saki, in The Interlopers, says that our animalistic human nature traps us in blindness, but when we re
raised in a kind civilization, we choose to use friendship as a freedom from our inner violence.
Humans as a whole, have an animalistic nature to them. Saki starts the story with one of the main
character going on a hunt. Saki states, [A] man stood one winter night watching and listening, as
though he waited for some beast of the woods to come within the range of his vision, and, later, of his
rifle (Saki 6). Ulrich is stalking the woods for as Saki stated beast of the woods but rather he patrolled
the dark forest in quest of a human enemy. Saki goes on talking about the feud that started with their
grandfathers over a land ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In other words, Saki says that we, as humans, have an animalistic nature. This animalistic nature traps
us in blindness. Saki has a theme of blood throughout the story. Saki states, [A] s boys they had
thirsted for one another s blood, (7). The dictionary has a word for this definition bloodlust. As stated
before, this is slightly ironic, being that the bloodlust was in boys; boys who are supposed to be
innocent and honorable. He continues with, Georg, who was nearly blinded with the blood which
trickled across his eyes (8). According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, bloodlust is the desire to
kill or maim others ; In order to kill things, you need to see them. Saki goes on to stating, No, I can
scarcely see anything; there is so much blood caked round my eyes, said Georg, and in any case I don
t drink wine with an enemy (9). This blindness is caused by the bloodlust between the two souls, or in
other words, they are being blinded by their animalistic nature. Georg s animalistic human nature has
blinded him in hatred, which has caused him to not be able to see the similarities between him and
Ulrich. This blindness leaves when we re raised in a kind civilization. Saki starts the story with the
two souls coming face to face with each other, which is what they ve been wanting for a long time.
Saki states, The two enemies stood

Pros And Cons Of Command Economic System
Economic Systems
In today s world, we are faced with the everyday question of what the best way to run an economy is.
There have been many different attempts to create the perfect economic system that adjusts to the
needs of each citizen, while maintaining a strong market system in which the people create ideas and
product and keep control. However, there has yet to be the perfect system that comes with less risk
than potential, and it is most likely that there will never be a system where cons are not attached to the
pros. Command, Market, and occasionally Traditional are the three main types of economies we see
today, and each one offers a different set of positives that the others can t. An idea that has always
been represented in the world has been a command economy. This is an economic system in which a
central power holds control of the economy, and regulates it. Countries like Cuba, China, and North
Korea practice this economy in forms of communism. Socialism can fall under this category as well,
however as it requires a government ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The governments of these economies limit regulations and provide a large amount of economic
freedom. Countries like Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, and the United States each have their own
version of a market economy. Because of the economic freedom, these countries are very strongly
business centered and run off of the motivation of their citizens working their way to the top, or being
able to have a family. Economic efficiency and growth are also major factors, and the state of the
economy relies heavily on these things in order to be the best it can be. The tradeoff, however, is that
the governments cannot guarantee that citizens needs will be met. With freedom, there will be a large
lack of equity as many citizens won t achieve. Countries like the United States attempt to have
security nets in place to help, but these can only stretch so

Harry Lavender Characters
Day s, The Life and Crimes of Harry Lavender , powerfully engages with the responder and
effectively subverts the crime fiction genre to create a new era of crime fiction. Day critics modern
society through the protagonistic voices of Claudia Valentine and Harry Lavender to challenge the
audience s perception of what crime and criminality is. Day uses the subversion of female characters
to challenge and question our perceptions of gender stereotypes. Day also effectively synthesises the
insight that the dynamic personality of criminals, like Sydney, is evolving. Ultimately, The Life and
Crimes of Harry Lavender highlights these fundamental ideas to examine the impact of the narrative
voices in order to gain insight into crime fiction and to address traditional conventions of modern
society.

Claudia Valentine is a character that is an enigmatic and codified by the crime fiction genre. She is
cleverly introduced in such a manner which is stereotypical of the traditional hard boiled detective
with the alcohol, cigarettes and blonde in the bed. These crime fiction conventions re contextualized
her in terms of her gender so to explore a more sinister aspect of humanity and the qualities that she
possesses. Within Claudia, Day has created a strong and independent woman, creating a new voice for
females in crime fiction. This can be seen in the encounters between Claudia and Dr. Angell, where
she contrasts her personalities. In contrast to this, Day uses the characterization of Harry to understand
his motives in becoming a major technological criminal. Through the monologues of Harry
experiencing his mother being brutally murdered by the Nazis, the schoolyard bullies and the
alienation that he encountered when being a refugee; Harry physiologically shifts towards

Analyzing Raymond Carver s Popular Mechanics
What is the title of the text and what is the text about?
As the title of the text indicates, Popular Mechanics , This might be a metaphor for how common
many types of marriages ends. It is also widely speculated that this is a reflection of Carver s love life.
He might have a conclusion that marriages fails and end with screaming affliction or it is probably in
relation to the popular mechanics of some relationships. However, the tone of this story is of intense
anger and aggression.Evidently, the narrator is detached from what is happening hereby creating that
mood; the reader s reaction and perception of this story.

It is a valid evidence because most couple with misunderstanding issues experience this whole episode
in the end of their relationship. We can see this also from the author s indicating the approach of
darkness which suggest not only that the couples relationship is ended but that something dark is
going to happen their baby.
5. Is the evidence relevant? How do you know?
Because of the significance of the story s message, I can say that the evidence is relevant to every
struggling couple to educate and caution of the inevitable consequences of domestic conflicts. The
Author is suggesting to the readers via symbolism, of a once healthy relationship between the couple
has been blighted somehow. as we can see from the author s apparent use of lighting that plays a
significant part in the setting of this story.

  • 5. Reflection Paper On Powerlifting Moment Powerlifting Progression After enduring months of intense conditioning, the time came for us to see if our work paid off. It was testing week for varsity football and bench press day had arrived. I maxed out at 335 pounds at the beginning of the year and I was looking to make some gains. I did my dynamic warm up and static stretches and hit a few reps of 300 pounds to stimulate blood flow. Routinely reaching for my weightlifting belt, I arrived at a dilemma. The belt evidently grew a conscience of its own and decided not to function. Presented with a chance to test the nature of my raw muscle, I had to visualize lifting 365 pounds without the aid of a weightlifting belt. I sat down and performed my normal pre lift rituals to gain composure. Gradually lying backward, I grasped the bar as I adjusted my back to the bench. With a deep breath, I un racked the bar and claimed the strongest bench press in the history of the school. This record, however, was not the only accolade I acquired from powerlifting. As a powerlifter, I am continuously prompted to assess my physical condition at any given time. This awareness is very crucial because it has helped me balance the degree that I increase the intensity of my workout to get stronger with the appropriate recovery time that allows my muscles to recuperate. As the complexity of my workout progresses, my overall physical development follows suit. Knowing that advancement in the weight room is enhanced through awareness, I greatly utilize this understanding of growth when considering my intellectual progression. If I want to become stronger in a particular lift, I start by highlighting details in individual segments of that lift that can be improved. I make similar observations in regards to my intellectual state; for example, stability exists as the foundation of my outlook on the world. From the atmosphere of my upbringing as a homeschool student, to my pastimes as a powerlifter and critical thinker, stability gives meaning to many properties that comprise my character. Being the third of eight children, most of the things I do have already been done before at least once in my family. I am often tasked with an expectation to succeed solely because of this precedent, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Positive Effects Of Four Day Workweek Work life balance has been a popular topic for employees across all age and occupations for years, representing a rising concern of contemporary human resource management and labor policies. This topic has attracted the attention from the millennium generation, who is stepping into the market and beginning to grow a career. Therefore considering the increasing demand, well designed workforce planning with diverse scheduling options offered to employees appears to be extra credits for most companies. This research paper aims to communicate the positive effects of four day workweek, and providing support for why employers should adopt this schedule for employees and themselves through 1) introducing background and history of four day workweek as a work schedule option and 2) demonstrating benefits of four day workweek from both employer and employees perspectives. Background and History of Four day Workweek Schedule Before introducing the workplace issues related to the development of four day workweek, a clear definition of this schedule is needed. According to Department of Labor (n.d.), A workweek is a fixed and regularly recurring period of 168 hours, or seven consecutive 24 hour periods. The workweek does not have to coincide with the calendar week, but instead it may begin on any day of the week and at any hour of the day. It might be the four day, 32 hour workweek more leisure, less work (Wernette 1), or the three day, 40 hour, compressed work week that Vega ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Summary Of A Red Girl s Reasoning In the short story, A Red Girl s Reasoning by Pauline Johnson, Charlie and Christie s cultural differences and personality flaws act as a catalyst towards the sudden downfall of their relationship. This is demonstrated through Christie s excessive pride, Charlie s self absorption, and his lack of open mindedness regarding his wife s Indigenous culture and perspective. To begin, Christie s stubborn and prideful nature is exhibited throughout the story. This is evident when she defends her parents marriage to Charlie s colleagues, Mrs. Stuart and Captain Logan, exclaiming, What do you [Captain Logan] dare to mean? Charlie s constant concern over his reputation and public image further enforces his self centered behaviour. Although Charlie claims to have extensive knowledge of Christie s Indigenous roots by [consummating] his predilections for Indianology by loving, winning, and marrying the quiet little daughter of the English trader, who [...] had married a native woman (1), he fails to recognize that her ancestral traditions are just as valid as his own. This close minded perspective is shown when Charlie fails to defend his wife when she was explaining her parents Indian marriage rites to Charlie s Christian colleagues. Furthermore, Charlie criticizes her father s decision to not re marry in the Christian church, arguing that Christie s father was a fool not to insist upon the law ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Impact Of Substance Abuse On Mental Health This paper examines current research and literature based on the impact of substance abuse on mental health. Mental health is defined as those conditions in a society leading to a situation where people in their individual capacities, and in interaction with one another as members of groups are able to live lives of quality in all contexts of their existence (Psychological Association of South Africa, 1989, p. 5). A substance, otherwise known as a drug , alters mental states such as mood, perception or consciousness when taken by a living organism (Fuhr, 1978). In the latest edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM 5) substance abuse, also known as addiction, is considered a disease (Griffin, 2015). • 12. The Food Safety Policy Of The European Union Introduction Everybody loves food, everybody has to eat. Unfortunately not all food is safe for us to consume, even though it may appear to be safe. There are over 200 known microbial, chemical or physical agents that can cause illness when ingested(Acheson, 1999). There has to be regulations to keep the US and EU citizens healthy and protected from these harmful agents in our food. In the United States, this is where the FDA(Food and Drug Administration) the CDC(Centers for Disease Control) and the USDA(United States Department of Agriculture) step in. In response to this distrust, the government came up with different studies and initiatives to change and reorganize food safety(Halkier Holm, 2006)policy. Today, because of the constant race to defend against food borne illnesses, the European Union has one of the highest food safety standards in the world. The European Commission developed an integrated approach to food safety which they call from farm to table . The goal is to address all problems in all sectors of the food chain before they get to the consumers plate. These sectors include: feed production, primary production, food processing, storage, transport and retail sale. The EU has implemented a number of legislation pieces to achieve this goal such as: the General Food Law, a new general Food Safety Policy, and the European Food Safety Authority(EFSA). The European Food Safety Authority provides scientific advice and support to the authorities who regulate food safety and they also find ways to communicate its scientific finding to the public. • 13. Defense Mechanisms And The Defense Mechanism Everyone has a few coping techniques to reduce anxiety from unacceptable or even harmful impulses. These coping techniques are performed unconsciously and they are known as defense mechanisms. When a body uses a defense mechanism they are attempting to distort, deny, or manipulate their reality to defend their self schema. There are a few different types of defense mechanisms many of which classified by Anna Freud that would later appear in the works of Sigmund Freud. The psychiatrist George Eman Vaillant introduced a way of organizing the mechanisms into a system of levels. The level system is as follows: level I is about pathological defences, level II explains immature defences, level III neurotic defences, and lastly level IV mature defences. An individual could use multiple different defense mechanisms from different levels though. For example a person could be using an immature defense mechanism such as regression and a mature mechanism like humor. This essay will delve into the description of these levels and the defense mechanisms they contain. Pathological defenses usually occur from someone who unconsciously preserves their traditional aspects of life. They will think very totalistic and rigidly since they are trying to preserve what they believe they won t make any compromises. One pathological defense mechanism would be projection. • 14. Stereotypes In The Woman Warrior The woman warrior by Maxine Kingston elaborates readers what it was like to grow up as a female Chinese American. Kingston came to America as a little girl with her family. Even though she was in America, she still had to deal with old Chinese traditions. Traditions where women were seen as useless and as slaves. But, Kingston refused to believe that women are worthless. She states, When one of my parents or the emigrant villagers said, feeding girls is feeding cowbirds , I would thrash on the floor and scream so hard (pg. 46). Therefore, Kingston fabricates her own versions of stories where she portrays herself as a warrior who is a hero rather than a useless individual. I believe Kingston tells stories to obliterate social perceptions of the woman in the traditional Chinese society. Based on Chinese traditions that Kingston cultured from her parents and the stories that her mother told, Kingston was under the perception that Chinese girls must only become a good wife and bare children. Another feature prominent in Lansdowne Heracles is that Hercules is always shown as being nude, and this is because historically in Greece, male nudity was considered the highest form of beauty. This is the reason most Greek statues are nude. Since the statue was discovered in Italy, questions arise as to whether Lansdowne Heracles is Roman or Greek. Considering the facts that will be presented here, history of the Greek and the fact that Hercules was a Greek hero, the sculpture must be Greek. While archeologists are unanimous that the Statue of Hercules was sculptured in a Roman workshop in the 2nd century A.D, they believe that it was inspired by another Greek statue now lost sculptured by the ... The Nemean lion was a beast found on the hills of Nemea, which were located in Greece. • 17. The Pros And Cons Of Pornography And Prostitution George Bernard Shaw once said pornographic novelist is one who exploits the sexual instinct as a prostitute does. A legitimate sex novel elucidates it or brings out its poetry, tragedy, or comedy. In other words, Shaw argues that pornography and prostitution is somewhat the same besides pornography is considered legal while prostitution is illegal. According to legal researchers, the headlines are constantly filled with new stories of politicians quite literally caught with their pants down in scandals with prostitutes. This often raises the question of why prostitution is not treated in the same way as pornography. Researchers asked, why is sex for money okay in one setting and not another ? The distinction between the two is straight forward. The finding of porn performances constitutes acting subject to the artistic expression protections, which is the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. Although, the distinction is that porn stars are paid to act, and prostitutes are paid for sex. Researchers made it clear that performers may engage in sex as part of their roles, but that does not count as sex for hire . It was also brought to the attention of researchers Sex during creating a movie or a photo is an expression protected under the First Amendment. Generally, the one paying for the sex is also different than the one receiving the benefit of that act, further distancing it from a strictly sex for money arrangement . Some free of speech parties argue that even first person movies should be afforded this protection, though no significant cases have gone to court . Reporters state, while recorded sexual performances have been relatively protected, live performances are much less so. Compared with sexually explicit media, live sex shows have very little protection under the law, though the Supreme Court in Oregon did overturn two state laws concerning sex shows on free speech and expression grounds in 2005 . The turning point in the porn and prostitution debate occurred in the 1980 s in California. Prosecutors argued that an adult film producer named Harold Freeman was guilty of pimping because he had hired five women to perform sex acts for a movie called Caught from Behind II. ... Walter is obnoxious and always thinks about himself while Mama is forceful and very strict. They both play a major role in the story. Both have changed or impacted the plot and characters feelings and or thoughts. Without them in the story it would be very different. Walter is a very important character and impacts everybody by his actions and what he says and does. Walter changes a lot throughout the story. He begins to become very hostile and short tempered towards his family. He starts to lose all his family values and only starts to worry and care about the check that is coming in. He says, did it come? will somebody please listen to me today!!! This shows that he wants everyone to listen to his idea about what he wants to do with the money. While he wants this, he shows no care or regard to anyone else s ideas or thoughts about it. The quotes show how selfish and rude he is, also it shows how he has lost of all his family s values because he won t even listen to anybody else. Walter has changed his whole family. He has started so much conflict with all his family. His family at this rate will be better off without him. You ain t looked at it yet and you don t aim to speak on that again? The Decision Of The Fourteenth Amendment On The Color Of... having children attend school based on the color of their skin was unconstitutional and it damaged children, especially African American children. The Court concluded that it was in violation of the Fourteenth Amendment to keep individuals separate based on the color of their skin. The decision in Brown was one of extreme importance and significance that could have represented a new start in the Supreme Court regarding civil rights cases. However, that was not the case, after Brown II the Supreme Court refused to hear a case that was on appeal: Naim v. Naim, Mr. Naim and Mrs. Naim one were white and the other was Chinese. The two individuals were residents of Virginia, where it was illegal for a white person to marry a person who was not white. The couple traveled to North Carolina to get married. After a while Mrs. Naim decided that the marriage wasn t going to work so she sued her husband for an annulment claiming that their marriage was not valid because of the law in Virginia. Mr. Naim appealed to the Supreme Court and as the court was breaking down the segregation system they chose not to hear the case. Naim v. • 24. Confucianism What is the ideal person supposed to be or do? In any religious system, this is always the paramount question. Confucianism itself is not a religion, per se, but a set of first principles of social organization and behavior, so there are no larger otherworldly implications to the Confucian plan for humanity. For Confucius, life consists of ethical principles: the central problem with humanity is anything which exacerbates human tendencies towards social disharmony. The Confucian system is one in which social order is paramount: Douglas Soccio defines Confucius not as a religious figure or philosopher per se, but as the social sage (Soccio 33). Confucius offers no prescriptions about deities or the afterlife, but instead gives rules of conduct in essence a manual of etiquette, which manages to raise etiquette to the level of a Kantian moral imperative which results in the larger set of ethical precepts that comprise the teachings of Confucius. For Confucius, the goal for every human being is to live in greatest harmony within society, which means adhering to specifically defined social roles. In some sense, Confucianism is not a religion but it places its most reverent attitudes towards the idea of education Confucius himself is presented as no more than a teacher (of right behavior, of rules of conduct, more than a teacher of moral inquiry) and good education is central to the Confucian concept of good behavior and for its fairly circumscribed sense of any the larger ...
