Child Custody And Family Violence Essay
This article was written about the child custody and family violence. Multiple guidelines have been
set forth by the American Psychological Association (APA) for those conducting forensic
evaluations pertinent to child custody cases (Geffner, Conradi, Geis, Aranda, 2009). There has
been a lack of assessing possible family violencewithin the family when it comes to family
custody issues. In a sense that if family violence has occurred then that is not looked at when it
comes to deciding how custody was going to be handled between the parents. It has been shown
that when there is an assessment done to review the accusations of family violence within the
family, the assessor s only look at a very basic level. They do not take a closer look to see if the
violence occur or. not. There might be a case that they miss... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It has been pointed out that the lack of training for the people that are conducting forensic
evaluations in these situations are hindering the process of the custody issues. These evaluators
might feel that there is nothing wrong and that the child will be save with the parent that is being
accused of violence. The children involved are either going to go along with the change in
parenting or they are going to start resenting the parents because they have been put in a situation
that they are not happy with. One mistake that an evaluator can make is to think that reports of a
children s abuse to Parental Alienation Syndrome (Geffner, Conradi, Geis Aranda, 2009). Parental
Alienation Syndrome is where one parent attempts to turn the child against the other parent. It is
done to make the child feel like the other parent does not want them or that their parent does not
care for them

Mission Success Requires Special Operations Force in The...
The Special Operations Force (SOF) Imperatives prescribe key operational requirements that
Special Forces Soldiers must incorporate into their mission planning and execution for the greatest
chance at mission success. The Ugly American is a fictional book first published in 1958 that offers
an insight to American arrogance, incompetence, and corruption, but bears a remarkable
resemblance of how America stills thinks and functions abroad today. The book portrays characters
serving as foreign dignitaries in Southeast Asia whom, for the most part, were grossly ineffective in
their duties. A number of these characters served in key positions that could have made a difference

This understanding and pre planning is something that we do during a Pre Deployment Site
Survey (PDSS). From personal experience, I admit that detachments that I have served on weren t
as prepared as Finian. Our PDSS has returned to the detachment with questions left unanswered
and I attribute that to a lack of prior understanding of the environment. If prior research is not
conducted to understand the full spectrum, there is no way that a thorough site survey can occur.
This can lead to an ill prepared deployment and risk damaging rapport with the host nation.
Another imperative that Father Finian displayed was his ability to ensure legitimacy and
credibility with the local population. He did so not by showing up as the educated,
knowledgeable, and powerful American, but by making himself a peer amongst the locals. Finian
knew there were three things that had to happen rather quickly: Find a courageous Catholic, learn
the local language, and build an immunity to the local cuisine and water. Finding another Catholic
is an obvious must; however, learning the local language and eating the local fare is an imperative
that Americans are doing less of as the years go by. Learning the language and eating the food
should be an obvious necessity but that s not the case. Some Americans have the arrogance that
English is the superior language of the world and that others should strive to learn it. I say this
because one of those Americans

Two Generations Research Paper
This generation, millennials, has a vastly different way of making it in the world than that of
people from two generations ago. I interviewed my maternal grandmother for this assignment.
We were raised relatively close to the same place, but in majorly different times. Blue Ridge,
Georgia is only 7.5 miles from Cherry Log, Georgia. Quite a few of our answers matched, and I
believe that s because my mother raised me and my two sisters the same way my grandmother
raised her which was influenced by her upbringing. In addition to that, I spent a copious amount
of my time as a child with my grandparents. While I was in their house, I followed their rules,
which were stricter than my own parents rules, and it has made me see the world we are living...

Abstract
Many occasions can t be predicted with absolute certainty and the best way to say how likely
something will happen is to use probability. When you have a set of data that is well defined and
random probabilities can be used to describe statistical numbers of outcomes divided by the number
of all the outcomes.

Summary Of The Charismatic Theology Of Luke-Acts
In The Charismatic Theology of St. Luke, Robert Stronstad adduces a succinct interpretation of the
significance of Holy Spirit according to Lukan theology. He examines both the Spirit s activity in
Luke Acts and the implications of the Gift of the Spirit in empowering, equipping, and
commissioning of Gods people for service. The text is separated into six sections covering the Holy
Spiritin Luke Acts , the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament , the Holy Spirit in the Gospel of Luke ,
The Holy Spirit at Pentecost , The Holy Spirit in the Acts of the Apostles and the Charismatic
Theology of St. Luke.

In this section Stronstad highlights the work of the charismatic Spirit in the Old Testament and the
charismatic Spirit in the intertestamental period.
The following installment of The Charismatic Theology of St. Luke focuses on Holy Spirit in the
Gospel of Luke and the Charismatic nature of Christ. In this chapter Stronstad examines how Luke
observes the Spirit in the infancy narrative, inauguration narrative and various texts dispersed
throughout his Gospel. A central motif within this section is Jesusfulfillment of Old testament
prophetic trajectories. Next, Stronstad addresses the charismatic community and The Holy Spirit at
Pentecost . He asserts: The Pentecost narrative is the story of the transfer of the charismatic Spirit
from Jesus to the disciples. [...] By this transfer of the Spirit, the disciples become the heirs and
successors to the earthly charismatic ministry of Jesus (Stronstad, 55). Additionally, he stresses the
complexity of the gift of the Spirit. The event that transpired at Pentecost can be described as but
not limited to a baptizing, clothing, outpouring, filling, and empowering of the Spirit. Acts of the
Apostles chronicles the rapid advancement of the Gospel by way of the gift of the Holy Spirit. The
Holy Spirit in the Acts of the Apostles: The Charismatic Community in Mission takes into account
the narratives succeeding Pentecost including Spirit Baptisms from Samaria to Ephesus (Acts

What Role Does Glinka Play In Russia
Russian culture in the nineteenth century was propagated virtually entirely through the poetry of a
few writers such as Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky, and Pushkin. This is to say that the works of a select
group of wordsmiths represented the majority of the artistic output of the largest country in the
world and earned them elevated status. Russian musicat this point took place on the most
miniscule of scopes, consisting mainly of folk melodies passed down equally through generations
of nobility and peasantry and provided little or no status boost. Of Russia s propensity towards
folk song, novelist and music critic Vladimir Stasov (1824 1906) professes:
Folk songs are heard everywhere even today. Every muzhik, carpenter, bricklayer, doorkeeper,

including the parallel fourths, fifths, and octaves so abhorred by Western musicians. This trait
in Russian music allows for a more primitive and earthy texture to prevail in lieu of the more
elegant harmonies of Western music. An example of this type of parallelism can be found in
Borodin s 1868 work Song of the Dark Forest. The top voices of the right hand can be seen
locked in ascending major seconds for several consecutive chords. Whether this type of parallelism

Midterm Ecology Environmental Problems
1. (a) How might one best define ecology today? (b) Please define the term environmental problem
? (c) Briefly describe the relationship between the science of ecology and our understanding of
environmental problems?
a)Ecology today can be defined as the study of the interrelationships between living things and their
environment . It is important to understand that when we say that ecology includes the environment
, we are talking about everything that is external to an organism, all the biotic and abiotic.
Nowadays it also attempts to understand and explain the how and why of the origins and
mechanisms of interactions.
b)Environmental Problems could be defined as the problems of humans and their relationships with
their environment.
c)Ecology is the tool used to better understand the causes, effects, and potential mitigation of
environmental problems.
2. (a) Define cybernetic; (b) define homeostasis, (c) define homeorhesis; (d) discuss the
relationships between cybernetic systems and homeostasis/homeorhesis; (e) describe the
significance of the cybernetic nature of ecological systems; (f) discuss the relationships between
disturbance level and the establishment of reinforcing vs balancing feedback loops.
a)Cybernetic is the ability of a system to regulate itself through feedback loops. Ecological systems

The Civilian Conservation Corps and the Tennessee Valley...
The Civilian Conservation Corps and the Tennessee Valley Authority had positive impacts on
work and the environment during the great depression. The bill proposing the Civilian
Conservation Corps was voted on and passed on March 31, 1933 under President Franklin
Delano Roosevelt. In addition, the Tennessee Valley Authority was formed May 18 of this same
year to work on easing environmental strains in the Tennessee Valley. Roosevelt s goal when he
became president was to improve the economy and environment, and to help raise America from
the depression. When he had been governor of New York he had created a public works program
similar to the TVA on a smaller scale and it had been met with success. As a result he was

Easy navigation and flood control encouraged trade along the river, which boosted the economy
and led to an increase in jobs for traders, deckhands, etc. (US History TVA). In addition to
providing increased trade opportunities, large amounts of money that would have been spent on
the flood damage that were saved by the construction of these dams. A few years into the
program, stations were created in the area to monitor flooding. Reports from these stations, in
addition to computer calculations, show that the total cost of the flood damage up until 2007
would have been $5.8 billion (TVA River Neighbors). The flooding would have destroyed not
only people s homes, but also their businesses and livelihoods., which would have led to further
unemployment. The TVA was more successful in helping the environment because it greatly
improved the condition of the land in the Tennessee Valley, which was thought to be irreparable.
A major goal of Roosevelts going into his first presidential term was land preservation. A nation
that destroys its soils destroys itself. Forests are the lungs of our land, purifying the air and
giving fresh strength to our people (Roosevelt). The area of the Tennessee Valley was so badly
damaged, the land was believed by some to be nearly beyond repair. As reported by the assistant
secretary of agriculture at the time, Rexford Tugwell, the land conditions in the Tennessee Valley
were little better, if any, than that of the early

The Veldt And Greed
Greed: How Much is Too Much? Greed naturally drives people to acquire more land, wealth, and
power, but it sometimes drives them too far. Even if they acknowledge their greed, they usually
choose to ignore it and continue their quest for more. Greed blurs the line between the things the
characters want and need in the two stories, How Much Land Does A Man Need? by Leo Tolstoy
and Ray Bradbury s The Veldt . Although the characters in these stories may recognize their
excessive greed, they choose to ignore it which directly leads to their downfall. Although the
characters in the story have more than enough to survive, they are still driven by the natural human
tendency to want to better their lives. Primarily, the main character in How Much... Show more

her husband may live roughly, but at least [they] are free from anxiety (1). She, unlike her
husband, has the ability to realize that what her family has is substantial. Although she may
know that her husband s greed is unhealthy, she is unable to stop it because he has become
obsessed with getting more land. Finally in The Veldt , George and his wife ask themselves
what prompted [them] to buy a nightmare and realize that pride, money, foolishness (10) were
the main things that drove them. They realize what they have done is wrong, but their issue
affected their lives exponentially to the point it could not be mended. Eventually George

wrong. Unfortunately, this moment comes after there is any hope to return to a normal life. But
at least he notices his greed because for some, the realization never comes. After Pahom dies

Mass Media Censorship In The United States
The 1st Amendment states that Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of
religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the
press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress
of grievances (Campbell, Martin, Fabos, 2014). Practicing your right to freedom of speechbecomes
difficult when obstacles such as place, time, and manner limitations of free speech are present,

fortunate citizens of the United States of America while it is also being challenged everyday by its

Building a sense of direction in life and a personal identity is difficult when society and media
creates unrealistic models on how to live life, how to learn, and how to think. Media manipulation a
constantly around us and needs to be treated as a problem. Media Literacy means attaining an
understanding of mass media and how they construct meaning requires a critical process that takes
one through the steps of description, analysis, interpretation, evaluation, and engagement
(Campbell, Martin, Fabos, 2014). Media is often thought of in broad terms, but it s known that six
corporations owns 90% of media. The six media companies are The Walt Disney Corporation,
Comcast, Viacom, Time Warner, CBS Corporation, and News Corp (Lutz,2012). The
Telecommunication Act of 1996 substantially changed the rules concerning ownership of the public
airwaves because the FCC eliminated most ownership restrictions on radio (Campbell, Martin,
Fabos, 2014). The Act in which overhauled the nation s communications regulations, most regional
and long distance phone companies and cable operators, competed against one another to provide
connections to the Internet. It is amazing and frightening at the same time to know that these six
corporations will continue to dominant 90% of everything an American citizen hears, sees, and
considers meaningful. When corporations turn into an oligopoly, corporations lose the original
purpose for news, which is to inform the public with facts and the act of informing and telling the
truth is determined by money. These corporations are more focused on what media gets them more
viewers and money Media corporations distract the public by reporting news cycles that constantly
switch every day and bombard the public with excessive coverage of absurdity news. These
corporations cut out contrasting educated opinions, newsrooms, and

Cloud Of Unknowing Vs. The Book Of Margery Kempe
Religion in the Middle Ages takes on a character all of its own as it is lived out differently in the
lives of medieval men and women spanning from ordinary laity to vehement devotees. Though it
is difficult to identify what the average faith consists of in the Middle Ages, the life told of a
radical devotee in The Book of MargeryKempeprovides insight to the highly intense version of
medieval paths of approaching Christ. Another medieval religious text, The Cloud of Unknowing,
provides a record of approaching the same Christ. I will explore the consistencies and
inconsistencies of both ways to approach Christ and religious fulfillment during the Middle Ages
combined with the motivations to do so on the basis of both texts.

Pursuing such spiritual fulfillment is a responsibility not to be taken lightly.
Often, literal commands of Jesus such as pilgrimages have two and three fold benefits. Besides
the very physical connections with the sacred that they offer arriving at places of sacred history,
pilgrimages are also a form of penance for sins. Because of the sacrifice of time, money, and risk
to make these pilgrimages, best seen by Kempe s outrageous devotion in leaving behind her life
and family for long periods of time, pilgrimages assist in erasing sins in ones life. Another reason
that Margery and medieval Christians would embark on these pilgrimages is for the reverence of
saints and their relics that they would visit. The Middle Ages emphasized an important
connection to the lives of past saints believing that the saints still had power to intercede
blessings into the lives of religious people on Earth. Where Margery is set a part from common
laity, during her pilgrimage to Jerusalem she receives a special spiritual gift of cryings that she can
not control when religious emotion comes over her. Describing these outbursts, the author of her
autobiography says, The crying was so loud and so amazing that it astounded people... (Windeatt,
104). It is assumable that emotional experiences upon pilgrimages of either laity or monastics to
such places as the Holy Land would be common, however that people were

Immanuel Kant On Animal Rights
Immanuel Kant believed that only humans are to be treated as end and that animals do not have
moral value they are only a means to our ends. Kant did not consider animals to be moral agents
and since animals are not moral agents then they are not ends in themselves therefore they do not
deserve rights. As a student of philosophy I found myself disagreeing completely with Kant s view
on animal rights. I recognize the differences between humans and animals, yet I believe that the
differences do not separate animals from deserving rights. Research has proven that many non
humans share capacities that are viewed as unique to humans. Also if Kant s consideration for
rights is based on being a rational being or a moral agent then many being in society who are held
with moral values would not be deserving... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kant agreed that animals should not just be killed for the pleasure or beat for no good sake. Kant
believed this because if a person decides to treat animals abusively or wrongly then that person may
encounter problems with other people. Acting inhumanely toward any other person or non human
animal is not morally right in any situation as it will not only affect the subject being treated
wrongly but it will affect the person doing the actions character. Kant also believed that it is
only morally right for a person to act from duty only and for no other reason. An example would
be if an animal was hit by a car and a person stopped to observe the scene. The person examines
the animal s injuries and sees that the animal just needs medical attention. Kant would say that the
person should take the animal to receive medical attention. Not because the person may feel bad
for the animal and not because the person wants to be seen as a caring person, but because it is the

Climate Change Is An Environmental And Business Issue
Climate change is an environmental and business issue that has gained more and more attention
from society nowadays. The meaning of it seems to be not as easy as its name indicates which is
merely a difference in climate. NASA (2011) reports, Climate change, therefore, is a change in the
typical or average weather of a region or city... Climate changeis also a change in Earth s overall
climate. This could be a change in Earth s average temperature, for example. Therefore, climate
change in our world has various effects in our life, which, for example, like extreme weather, global
warming, higher sea level and etc., do really affect our daily life and production process.

Business plays a vitally important role in this issue because it has been a major contributor to
carbon in the atmosphere. Though climate change could be caused by thousands of reasons, like
natural factors, however, scientists think that the recent phenomenon of global warming can t be
explained by nature alone. Most scientists say it s very likely that most of the warming since the
mid 1900s is due to the burning of coal, oil and gas...This burning adds heat trapping gases, like
carbon dioxide, into the air. These gases are called greenhouse gases (NASA, 2011). The industrial
production which needs tons of fuels and other raw materials burned is an enormous source of
greenhouse gases which might be the most core factor of causing climate change.
Business is also influenced by climate change in return which is changing the landscape of
business. Businesses that depend on water, like skiing industry, bottled spring water industry, the
oil industry and etc., are affected by climate change because these industries need a constant and
steady supply of water including different forms, for instance, snow. Climate is an essential
resource for tourism, and especially for the beach, nature, and winter sport tourism segments.

The Great Famine Of Irish Nationalism
French political leader Charles de Gaulle said that nationalism is when hate for people other than
your own comes first, by this definition turning points in Irish Nationalism can be seen not as what
changed as in regards love for Ireland, but what changed hatred for the English withinin Ireland.
There are numerous significant turning points in Irish Nationalism; it could be argued that The
Great Famine is the largest turning point in Irish Nationalism as it encouraged independence
through means of violence as well as cementing a deep rooted hatred of the English in Ireland.
Equally, the failure of the First Home Rule Bill can be maintained as the largest turning point as it
led to the decline of the liberals, Charles Stuart Parnell and constitutional nationalism. Alternatively,
The First World War can be judged as the prime turning point, mainly due to its short term affects. It
split the nationalists, which led to the Easter rising, and increased agitation over Home Rule.
It could be argued that The Great Famine was the utmost turning point in Irish Nationalism due to
the lack of action of the British Government, which left deep rooted hatred for the English within
Ireland. Government expenditure for the famine equaled a total of ВЈ8 million, 3% of the total
government budget. The British Government stuck closer to a laissez faire economic policy, which
is echoed through Charles Trevelyan who claimed that through relief people grow worse instead of
better. The Irish

The Causes And Effect Of Resistance On The Government...

the works of Anis Khassawneh, and Rosemond Boohene and Asamoah Appiah Williams will be
critically reviewed.

Meanwhile, Khassawneh (2015: 26 27) has conducted a research and found that there are four
factors that trigger the rejection of the employee to change in government organisations in Jordan.
There are due to the lack of participation of employees, inadequate incentives, distrust between
higher management and workers, and lack of clarity in the goals of change. He formulated these
results by selecting the top four answers of respondents.
The works of Khan (1989), Jreisat (1988), and Khassawneh (2005) carried out in different time
periods, which is about 17 years. Nevertheless, there are similarities research findings about the
reasons that led to the employee refuses to change, namely the lack of commitment of the
leadership in making changes. This work has provided insight into some of the research questions
on the causes of resistance, so it is considered relevant to this dissertation.
Moreover, the work of Khassawneh can be relied on. He is a former government employee. He also
is a lecturer in the training programs conducted by the Institute of Public Administration, so it is
already familiar with the change of administration in the public sector in Jordan. Although not

8th Amendment Bars Cruel And Unusual Punishment
More than a hundred of Americans are wrongfully sent to death row. Hundreds of people die
innocent. Killing people for killing others is wrong in any situation. Though some people say
when murder is punished with death less people will commit crime, murdering is uncivil,
especially when the person is wrongfully accused. Killing someone for killing someone else is not
an appropriate punishment. According to the Constitution the death penalty is uncivil. The Eighth
Amendment bars cruel and unusual punishment, and that s what a lot of people say the death
penalty is. People that have family members killed aren t wanting the other person killed, just
locked up. In 2015 Dylann Roof opened fire in a church and killed nine people. Melvin Graham

Normative Social Roles In The Film Transporter 2 Of 2005
Literary works depict normative social roles on gender thereby portraying either gender as having
specific set of characteristics in comparison to one another (Fetterley 492). The movie Transporter
2 of 2005 directed by Louis Leterrier and starring Jason Statham as Frank Martin is just an
example of how the male and female genderare assigned given roles that bring out their characters
as distinct (Leterrier). The movie uses both gender to express normative social stereotyping that
portrays males as masculine and females as feminine, dehumanizes the female gender as a sexual
object of the male gender, gives the lower relative social power to the female gender observed in

Through the movie, only supportive role is assigned the female characters represent by Audrey

enables the abilities of Audrey and Lola to show at minimal levels as compared to the males who

(Leterrier). Though Sigmund Freud claims that females pose problems to themselves by adopting
gender stereotyping that plays against them in the social space, media platforms as exampled by
the movie Transporter 2 exploits the females in demonstrating femininity in them more than the
male gender as minor to the males (Freud 1). An observation that through popular culture, such
as media, normation is achieved that stereotypes and shapes the psychological status of
members of a society plays in the case of the film (Fetterley 492). For instance, Jason Statham is
depicted as strong and physical person in comparison to Lola who has to be assisted by a sniper
to deal with him in kidnapping baby Jack (Leterrier). This portrays that Lola would not succeed in
fighting herself out of the situation and at the end Jason kills her to show that she is inferior to her
in terms of physical strength and wit (Leterrier). Still, assessment of the length and severity of the

Magna Carta Historical Documents
DSPA There was many documents that influenced the writing of the constitution. Some people may
say we stole parts from them, but I believe we borrowed them and made them better. We made them
better because they were now part of the United States of America. From the Magna Carta to the
Articles of Confederation, writings all around the world influenced the US constitution. Even
though we copyrighted some of the constitution it is still one of the most ingenious writings in the
world. The first document to influence the constitution was the Magna Carta. The Magna Carta
declared everyone was subject to law, even the king. It also said that no one could be put through
cruel or unusual punishment. Another thing it said was the everyone had the right to a fair trial
and justice. Magna Carta means great charter in latin. It also included the right to speedy trial. The
Magna Carta influenced many parts of the constitution. The first thing it influenced was that the
king and government were bound to the same laws as the citizens. This means that the king and the
government weren t above the law, just like the president and US government. Another thing that is
similar is the right to a fair and speedy trial just like in the bill of rights. The last area that is similar
is that no one could be put through cruel and unusual punishment. That is just one of many
historical documents that influenced the constitution.

I am very glad you all could make it today to join me in grieving the late Bessie Coleman, you
might know her as Queen Bess . She lived a life much more exhilarating and adventurous than
most of us will ever experience. Her life was like the airplanes she flew, lots of ups and downs
with some unexpected tricks along the way but there will be people cheering you on while you do
tricks. Bessie would always tell that that she would amount to something and damn right, after a lot
of work she did.
The women who we all think so highly of did not have a great starting out. Born on January 26,
1892 in Atlanta, Texas in a one room, dirt floored cabin to her parents, George and Susan, who were
illiterate and children of slaves. Attempting to turn their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No one in the United States would accept her as a black woman to flight school. That led her to
study French and move to France to attend flight school where she completed seven months of
flight training so she was able to perform in air shows. To her disadvantage, Bessie was taught on
a 27 foot biplane that was known to fail frequently, even in the air. She also witnessed a fellow
student die in a crash during training but that did not stop her from pushing on and achieving her
goal.
Her story blew up in African American news and Bessie Coleman became a household name. It
was unheard of that a woman, let alone an African American, was a pilot. Soon Bessie did learn
that it was hard to make money off being just a pilot so she returned to Europe to train in
acrobatic flying, barnstorming as some may call it. She was going to perform stunts in air
shows and that was unheard of! She returned to the United Stated as the first African American
woman to earn an international permit to fly in 1921. Now it was time for Queen Bess to wow
the people with what she could do. She performed for the first time in the United States in New
York and was called The World s Greatest Woman Flyer. She was on top of the world. She was
able to roll the plane, stop the engine in the air and start it again before the plane landed. She
shocked everyone with her incredible talent but she wasn t finished

Biological Aspects Of Biological Anthropology
Biological anthropology can be defined as the science that focuses on a person biological aspect.
There are several branches of this type of science which will deal with human being evolution as
well as bring out understanding in reference to the behaviors which are often seen in human beings.
Biological anthropology in relation to humanvariation will be based on the biological or physical
differences that may be physical and genetic characteristics of a person. The evolution of human
being has been linked to human variation where the variation will be in reference to the biological
aspect of the human being which will relate to the racial differences that may include the physical
differences, as well as the skin, and the skeleton of the human being. However, despite the
variations which may be seen in terms of race, in the current world today, human beings belong to
the same particular species which is normally known as Homo sapiens. The differences in terms
of race will be as a result of the evolution of human being in various geographical locations, and
over time, the differences will be highly noticeable due to various biological variations which may
include traits which have been shared throughout the geographical area. In addition, human
variations from a biological aspect will also be brought about by factors which will be hereditary
and will bring about an effect on the human being s natural environmentas well as the person s
environment from a social point of

Jane s Use Of Symbolism In Jane Eyre
Human beings can arguably be call one of Earths greatest species. Humans are born with the

This device is the setting in which this whole story takes place in. The setting so important to
the theme because of the time period at which it, the narrative, takes place in. The 1800s women
were not taken seriously as men of the time. This also goes for treating women s ailments as
well. Though peopled did try their best to take care for them, there was always someone who
would say that they were over nervous or just too sensitive. An example of this is when Jane
tells John that she didn t feel much better, and to that John replied Bless her little heart! he said
with a big hug, she ll be as sick as she pleases (476). John obviously does not take what his own
wife and patient says to heart, and brushes off what she says. Another reason the setting of this is

Exploring Public Transportation In The United States
Public transportation is one of the most important serves in many countries. Americans alone ride
up to 9.5 billion trips on public transportation in one year. Most people like to ride public
transportation because it is affordable. Furthermore, it is more convenient for elder people, people
with disabilities, and for student. It also shows how modern and advance the city is. Public
transportation benefits exceeds the transportation services to include healthier environment and

Slavery In New Jersey City Essay
No matter what difficulties lay ahead, there was only one goal, to be free. It was the road to
freedom; it was a challenge that needed to be completed. According to The Underground
Railroad in Jersey City written by Carmela Karnoutsos Jersey City was the last station on the
Underground Railroad route through New Jersey. Tens of thousands of fugitive slaves arrived
here from several states, such as Maryland, Virginia, and North and South Carolina. From these
states, they traveled to the Delaware River where they crossed over to New Jersey to continue on
to Jersey City. The crossing of the slaves was in the same area of Jersey City as the Dutch
settlement of New Netherlands at Harsimus, where slavery was introduced in the 1640s. The
effects that Jersey City s underground railroad had on former slaves who... Show more content on

For Jersey City to undergo this event is majorly significant because it is such a small city with
such great history. Slaves/former slaves were traveling the Underground Railroad, the secretive
path of safe houses that led thousands of slaves to freedom in the North before the
Emancipation Proclamation of 1863. The Emancipation Proclamation of 1863 implies that
freeing the slaves in certain territories were still against the Union. However, the Emancipation
Proclamation of 1863 did not free all slaves due to the fact that the proclamation did not cover
the states that were slave colonized states. New Jersey alone had as many as four routes, with all
of them coming into Jersey City. Those routes extended from the Mason and Dixon Line and the
Valley of the Ohio on the South, to the Canadian border on the North. Jersey City played a crucial
role in that era being that numerous individuals passed through the city. As the last stop in New
Jersey, even before criminal slaves reached New York; approximately 60,000 escaped slaves

Sports development plan
I am proposing a 3 day handball camp which will be put in place to assist the growth of handball
at junior level within Nottinghamshire. The sport is growing and is deemed to be one of the
best legacies of London 2012 (BHA, 2011). However, there is still a large gap in the market for
new and enhanced programmes at junior level to assist the sport in becoming more popular (Gary
Cruz, 2006). Since becoming an Olympic sport in 1972, handball has been dominated by
European countries, mainly due to the restricted structures in position (Roberts et al, 2012). The 2
years following the Olympics is said to be a once in a lifetime opportunity for the sport to grow

A consent form will be attached to each leaflet, which is to be filled in by the parent/guardian of
the child if they are to attend the camp. This is then to be handed into the school. This way the
coaches and volunteers will know the number of participants expected at the camp in order to plan
the sessions and how many staff are needed. An advert in the local radio station promoting the
camp will also be aired in the mornings targeting parents and children on their way to school and
work.
Figure1: Gant chart highlighting time scale.
The purpose of this proposal is to target juniors at grass roots level, to increase their skills and
motivate them to carry on playing the sport within the Nottinghamshire area. On the success of the
proposal and in order to expand my project, more camps will be staged in each of the school
holidays and after school sessions can be put in place with additional funding from extended school
services, gradually increasing participation in Nottinghamshire. The extended after school sessions
may also provide opportunities for new and enthusiastic coaches to gain 1st4sport level 2 handball
coaching qualification from England Handball which is going to be introduced to the east midlands.
Qualified coaches will improve the standards of the sport and become the base of new junior clubs

Descriptive Essay On The Insane Asylum
The Insane Asylum.
One day I walked into one of my client s room and stopped dead. Written in what looked like
charcoal was a bunch of people s torsos and heads. There was blood all over the bed and the client
was under the bed literally deflated. No bones, blood, organs, just the skin and eyeballs. I had
immediately ran back out and got a guard and when we came back to the room the body was gone.
One of the drawings had a great big x across it written in more blood. Freaking out, we had called
the cops and shut and locked every door. Two weeks had passed the police force couldn t figure
out who had killed the man, especially since there was no body to work with. Going back into
the crime scene I counted all the people on the wall. The same amount on the wall was the same
amount of clients we had plus one. Just then I heard a high pitched scream and watched a great
big x appear in blood on a charcoaled person. I knew immediately what had happened.
Racing toward the scream looking through the rooms I saw something that will haunt my dreams
forever. A client was throwing up all her own blood, organs, and bones with a shadowy figure
behind her holding a bottle. Right after I burst into her room the lights flickered off into a
complete darkness. I was pushed down and a drop acid green liquid landed on my shoulder and
burned me. It hurt so bad that it had knocked me out cold.
When I had awaken I was on the couch in my boss s office. He looked grave as he spoke, As I hear
it you were in Elena s room when she died and I would like to know everything that had happened.
The sooner you tell me the better because there are five dead in total now.
Well, I heard a scream and I started running to the noise looking through the rooms as I passed.
When I got to her room I had looked through and she was vomiting her bones, organs, and blood
up. There was also a shadow like object or... or a someone holding a bottle. I ran into the room and
it went pitch black something knocked me over and then green acid type stuff landed on my
shoulder and burned me. That is all I remember.

Suicide In Karmac Mccarthy s The Road
The book The Road is set in a post apocalyptic nuclear world. The book is centered on two main
characters known simply as the Man and the Boy and their journey southwest to the coast. I
believe that the characters are not named on purpose because the book s purpose is to show how
far a parent will go for a child. The characters are not named to show that this book could really be
about anyone.
The world that The Road is set in is hell. The world is set in a constant state of winter and ash
from the atomic bombs is everywhere. Most vegetation is gone. So, because of the bleak world and
the amount of death that food shortages and the weather have caused a central theme in The Road
is suicide. You find out about a third of the way through the book that the motherof the boy killed
herself early in the boys life. The father contemplates suicide several times. On one hand he
desperately wants to join his wife in death but on the other he knows he has to protect his son until
he is ready to take care of himself. Protecting his son is the only thing in life more important than
suicide to the Man. This is shown in a conversation that the boy and the man have about courage ...

70 years ago, Edward Sapir introduced a new concept of linguistics. He said that language moved

The name of action or event can be transferred into something that predate and follow the change.
For example, in English, collation now defined into different meaning perbandingan and makanan
ringan where as both of them are relates. Previously, in Catholic ceremony the reading from
Collationes Patrum by Cassian usually read before the end of mass, it followed by snack which
called collation because the snack related with the reading. So, the name of book followed by the
snack that also consume in the close time in mass period. Third, the relation can create the change
of metonymy, there are some part that is important but sometime it divide into own category, or we
can call it pars pro toto. For example in Indonesia, pasukan baju kuning it refers to the group who

Essay On Bartleby The Race And Araby Counterpart
Three critical essays that presented strong approaches to Joyce s stories are Counterparts, After
the Race, and Araby. The critical approach for Joyce s Counterparts named Farrington the
Scrivener: A Story of Dame Street by Morris Beja compared Farrington to that of Herman
Melville s short story Bartleby the Scrivener: A Story of Wall Street (1853). While Melville s
Bartleby was ambitious, Joyce s Farrington was quite the opposite, an anti Bartleby, with
physicality, ambition, and how they handle themselves with violence (Beja 319). Despite these
representations, Beja makes a point to say that Joyce forces readers to understand Farrington.
Beja, however, wants to make the literary criticism s reader to realize our own kinship with him,
but most of us are readier to identify with his son, or even with Bartleby (Beja 320). Then, Beja
begins to find their similarities, including their defiance toward their bosses. Beja stated that the
comparison may suggest a similar forces are present in their lives which may be hard to... Show

This coping mechanism is ruinous and irrational, but many people make decisions that are
irrational in stressful situations in which they cannot escape. This brings the reader closer to

second approach written by James Fairhall ( Big Power Politics and Colonial Economics: The

The Temperance Movement Of The Early 1900 S
During the early 1900 s America was in its Gilded Age . The economy was booming and
everyone seemed to be happy from the outside. But, there were many problems going on in the
United States. In the factories where most people worked there were corrupt bosses, the people
were overworked and there was child labor. The only salvation that these people had was to drink.
The workers drank to calm down and feel no pain. But this destroyed families because they were
almost constantly drunk. They would sometimes lose their only job because of the drinking. So, a
lot of religious groups and many women started the temperance movement. There have been many
people who have supported temperance in the past and it dates all the way back to when the
Bible was written. Eventually the 18th Amendment was passed on January 26th 1919. This
amendment was known as the Noble Experiment . This turned out to be a complete failure. This
law was impossible to enforce because of the corrupt police and there was alcohol almost
everywhere. In this paper I will go over alcohol use, attempts to fight alcohol abuse, and the rise in
crime due to the money that could be made in corruption.
Alcohol has been around for ages. There is evidence of alcohol in China in 7,000 b.c. The average
amount of calories in a glass of beer is 150 calories, 125 calories for a glass of wine, and 100
calories for liquor. Fermented beverages have been around for thousands of years. They existed in

Difference Between Forensic Anthropology And Forensic...
There are many different forms of forensic studies. Two of these forms are forensic anthropology
and forensic pathology. Though there are similarities in these two fields, there are also many
differences. When choosing whether to have a career in Forensic Anthropology or Forensic
Pathology, one must first know the differences in salary, the focus of study, the different education
and certifications needed for each career, diverse abilities needed, personality types, as well as the
distinctive software used in each field. To begin, although there are many different career options
for both Forensic Anthropology and Forensic Pathology, the difference in salary can influence
which career path some desire to work in. For example, the average yearly salary for a forensic
anthropologist was around fifty four thousand dollars (A., n.d.), while the average annual salary
for a forensic pathologist was just over one hundred and ninety thousand dollars (Franklin, B.
(Ed.). (n.d.)). With this gap in annual salary, an individual could face the dilemma of choosing
between what they want to do, or the amount of money they want to make. Though this is a large
difference, some individuals may decide that the salary does not matter opposed to following one
s dreams. In any case, the person will find a specific area of study to focus on. Though there are
many similarities in these two careers, their fields of study are very different. The main difference
is the career description. Forensic

Npm And Performance Management Related Literatures
CHAPTER 2
LITERATURE REVIEW
The NPM Model has focused on delivering market inspired results and was primarily concerned
with efficiency and performance. (Jarrar and Schiuma, 2007)
2.1. INTRODUCTION
Efficiency and performance become two key words for the reform that held by countries in the
world. Started in the developed countries, namely United Kingdom and United States under their
leader, Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reaganera, this doctrine then spread to Australia, New
Zealand, Europe, Africa, Latin America and Asia. NPM spread and breadth expand globally.
Inevitably, this so called doctrine or paradigm is delivering market based which one s country like
or dislike diffuse theirs governance in order to well implement it. This movement also inevitably
followed as one of the pressure of country s exogenous factors.
The main purpose of this Chapter is to address NPM and Performance Management related
literatures. First, the definition of NPM, its objectives and characteristic is clarified in Section
2.2.1. Section 2.3 expands on the explanation of NPM in developing countries. The Chapter
progresses with elaborating Performance Management themes in Section 2.4 encompassing
definition, essences and challenges, before concluding in Section 2.5.
2.2. NPM AND PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT ISSUE

Around the age of 21 there is a sharp decline in sociotropy amongst participants that could be

Discussion
Agentic interpersonal behaviour debates the idea of exercising power over others in social
contexts. The individuals who tend to present this trait tend to identify themselves as forceful,
assertive and self confident, (Wiggins 1995; Zeigler Hill; Qinglin Zhang 2013).
The social dominance that typically accompanies extraversion can aid various self esteem
regulatory functions; examples of this include sustaining and augmenting feelings of self worth as
well as communicating these thoughts about the self to the social environment.
This pattern is coherent with the reasoning that self esteem is a determining factor and that self
esteem is associated with relative positions of dominance in hierarchies, (Kirkpatrick Ellis, 2001)
Perceived self esteem was positively connected with recognised traits of extraversion,
conscientiousness and emotional solidity. Together, these results insinuate that the perceivers
believed that individuals who were classed as extraverted, conscientious and emotionally stable
possessed greater levels of self esteem. It is crucial to comment that these associations emerged
after controlling for self reported personality features.
The importance of this, establishes the association between

been named to the 2018 Corporate Equality Index with a perfect score. The Human Rights
Campaign Foundation reports on corporate policies and practices related to the LGBTQ

of our employees, which has culminated a score of 100% on this important index. Receiving this
external recognition for the second year in a row is a testament to the value we place on
diversity and inclusion. (Targeted News Service). The company has made it part of their mission
to provide and equal and safe work environment for all regardless sexual orientation/identity. For
years, the LGBTQ community has been fighting for equality. It was only two years ago that the
Supreme Court ruled in favor of same sex marriage. The LGBTQ community still faces inequality
in the workplace. Businesses can choose whether they want to provide benefits to same sex
partners or to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation, there is no law legally binding
them. I consider this a great ethical decision that shows progressive values. Praxair supports other
programs and initiatives that promote diversity and inclusion including: employee resource groups

The Importance Of Body Mass And Speed
Growing up I have always been fascinated with Track and Field. The adrenaline, the time, and
speed were all factors that created interest. It wasn t until I was older I decided to play the sport
with a passion. I have noticed track runners come in various body compositions including body
mass and height, which made me ponder, does height of a runner affect their speed?
With all things being equal (body mass, proportionality and stride rate) the mechanics of running
depends upon more than runner height. According to most researchers, the height of the runner
can be a factor that helps increase speed, but the mechanics of a runner s stride, and how the
runner s body responds to training also can make a runner faster. A runner should have a steady
stride rate and have a manageable body mass and have an equal proportionally in order to
maximize his or her potential.
Background information
Running is a type of gait characterized by an aerial phase in which all feet are above the ground
(though there are exceptions). Running is a method of transportation allowing humans and other
animals to move rapidly on foot ( Running ).
This is in contrast to walking, where one foot is always in contact with the ground, the legs are
kept mostly straight and the center of gravity vaults over the stance leg or legs in an inverted
pendulum fashion. A characteristic feature of a running body from the viewpoint of spring mass
mechanics is that changes in kinetic and potential energy within a

6A with my cane. Landlord! The sound of the afternoon soap opera that emanated from the
apartment went silent. I heard the footsteps approaching the door, the peephole went dark. I
banged again louder this time. I m the new landlord, come to pick up the rent. The door slowly
opened to reveal a woman in her late sixties. She wore a red dress of ankle length, flat shoes and
short grey hair. Forgive me, I thought you might be one of those leafy green men. That s all I
needed. A tenant who s not just slow in her rent, but also a nut job. Leafy green men? You must
have seen them, everyone in the building has. They re about half your height, dressed in leaves.
They say to speak calmly to crazy people and play along. No, I haven t seen one, but I just bought
this place and I need the rent. Oh, I have the money, She walked down the hall. It s in the bedroom.
She returned holding a wad of bills,

Hydrogen Peroxide And Catalase Reaction Lab
The rate of reaction between Catalase and the hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) can vary depending on
many factors including the enzyme concentration in a solution. In this investigation, the rate of
reaction will be measured by the change in temperature of the liquefied spinach (catalase) over a
period of 30 seconds, once the hydrogen peroxide(H2O2) has been added into the solution.
It is expected that the change in temperature will initially increase as the concentration of the
Catalase increases in the hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). As more Catalase is added into the hydrogen
peroxide (H2O2), the rate of reaction is expected to increase due to a higher concentration of
enzyme present and therefore a greater frequency of successful collisions between the enzyme and
substrates resulting in a faster breakdown of the substrate. However, as the concentration of the
Catalase approaches 100% concentrated, it is expected for the change in temperature (reaction rate)
to plateau. This occurs as there is only a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The hypothesis stated that if the concentration of Catalase increases from 25%, 50%, 75%, and
100%, then the percentage difference in the temperature (degrees) of the liquefied spinach will
increase, until the Catalase is no longer the limiting factor, and thus the temperature difference
(degrees) will plateau. The hypothesis was tested by adding 50ml of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)
into four different concentrations of Catalase (25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%). The temperature of the
Catalase was measured before and 30 seconds after the hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) had been added.
It was discovered that the rate of reaction initially increased as the concentration of Catalase
increased, but started to plateau after the 75% concentrated catalase. Therefore, the hypothesis of
this experiment was

Nuclear Weapons Be Banned
There is only one way to get rid of nuclear weapons...Use them! (Rush Limbaugh). The world has
over 14,900 nuclear weapons 93% of them are owned by The United States of America and
Russia. Nuclear weapons were first used in world war two. When they were first used they were
very destructive and really put an impact on the world. Nuclear weaponsare very deadly and are
constantly getting redesigned to be more and more powerful. Not only do nuclear weapons affect
people, they also affect the earth, the climate, and animals. Although nuclear weapons affect many
things in the world they keep peace too. Nuclear weapons should not be banned worldwide. I
believe nuclear weapons should not be banned worldwide. First off no country will get rid of...

They believe just by having them we could hurt the world. Many want them gone because of the
power that they contain and the power they give. Others say that nuclear weapons affect
mankind, and that it will destroy mankind for good. They want a worldwide ban on nuclear
weapons because if they get into the wrong hands it could go drastically wrong. Many other
people believe that if we get rid of nuclear weapons for good, then we will have complete world
peace. They think that the world will be so much better off without weapons with so much power.
People think that with nuclear weapons comes war. The way they want to get rid of the nuclear
weapons is by dismantling them and throwing them away. Could you imagine getting rid of over
14,900 nuclear weapons? The cost of just doing that would be millions alone. Many people believe
that nuclear weapons are the worst thing that mankind has invented and that they should be
eliminated for good. People say that it affects the climate and animals, well they only affect the
climate if the weapon is used. The countries that have the majority of the nuclear weapons are at
peace with one another. They don t want to start war with each other, because they know of what
can happen if they do. People need to worry about other things that are affecting the climate and
animals the most. Pollution being one of the most worrying. Thus saying that it hurts the climate
the most is not true and we shouldn t even be worried about it.

The Human Nervous System Essay
The Human Nervous System
The nervous system is the most complex part of the body, as they govern our thoughts, feelings,
and bodily functions. It is an important factor in science because it can lead to new discoveries for
cures or diseases. The studies of the nervous system helped lower death rates from heart disease,
stroke, accidents, etc. The nervous system is a network of neurons (nerve cells that sends
information to the brain to be analyzed.
Neurons live both in and outside the central nervous system. Understanding how the neurons work
is vital to understanding the nervous system.
The neuron has two important structures called the dendrite and axon, also called nerve fibers. The
dendrites are like tentacles that sprout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The impulse is then sent to another neuron, and the process repeats until the nerves are at rest.
The effect of the signals depends on what the target is. If the target of the signal is a muscle cell,
the effect might be a muscle contraction. The speed of the electrical impulse depends on the size
of the nerve fiber. In small nerves, the rate it transmits impulses is from a half to two meters a
second. The larger the diameter of the nerve fiber, the higher rate of conducting impulses. There is
less electrical resistance in thick fibers. When nerve impulse jumps from one node (gaps in nerve
fibers) to the next, it is called saltatory conduction. Saltatory conduction conducts faster because it
contains an insulator that prevents leakage of currents. The rate of conduction is 2 to 120 meters a
second. Not all nerves conduct impulse electrochemically. Some impulses jump from nerve to
nerve, bypassing the synapse. Unlike other cells, once neurons are lost, they can t be regenerated.
Fortunately, there are about 10 billion neurons and they have other cells to aid them in carrying
messages to other nerves. But if nerves are severed, the nerve fibers can regenerate if the two ends
are reattached precisely. However, restored functions may produce different actions because the
nerves might not be connected to the right channel.
There are three main parts of the nervous system: the central, peripheral, and autonomic

Innocence in The Catcher in the Rye, by J.D. Salinger Essay
One of the purist times in a person s life is childhood, during this time life is easy and often
romanticized. As a person grows older the innocence and naivety of childhood begins to fade into
a hardness caused by the harsh realties of adulthood. Though the transition from childhood is hard,
one most remember not to rush into adulthood savor your innocence . In Catcher In the Rye , by
J.D. Salinger the main character Holden Caulfield is in the transitional stage, he finds it hard for
him to grow up and act like an adult. So instead of rushing in to adulthood, he finds slowing down
the process and acting less adult like is better for him. Holden finds mature adult like subjects and
qualities phony, but finds innocent child like subjects... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But the two youngest members of the family are the main recipients of his praise and joy. When
he talked about his brother Allie that passed away it is always good. The quote that sums up his
feelings towards Allies is, he was a nice kid. (Salinger 38) He relies on Allie when he has a
problem or needs to think things through. When he was contemplating his leave and walking to
give Phoebe her letter he talked to the ghost of Allie. The other sibling is Phoebe, Phoebe seem to
be the apple of his eye. When he thought about leaving he only wanted and needed to say good
bye to Phoebe and no one else. The way he talks about D.B. is very different then the way he
rants on about his younger siblings, he never talks bad or factious about D.B. he just doesn t
praise him as much. He views D.B. As phony and a Hollywood sellout. In many aspects the
siblings are the same the only difference is their age and innocence level. He adores and admires
the more innocent younger siblings, while he views the oldest one as being a fake. This just
proves that Salinger thinks innocence s should be captured and cherished. Holden seem to be
weird and indifferent when it comes to females and sexual relationships. He has a made up sex life
when in actuality he has yet to do anything. When the prostitute came to his room he chickens out

Chinese Culture In Australia
Chinese and Europeans have both migrated to Australia for many different reasons. Both cultures
have changed and adapted to better suit this country, yet their cultures remain vastly different. The
main difference in culture is regarding the family.
Traditionally, both Chinese and European cultureshared a similar view of gender roles: that the
male was the breadwinner, and the female looked after the home and family. In Australia, it seems
gender roles for both are changing with time and are now determined by individual family
preference rather than traditional culture (Metro South Health. 2015).
European Australian, or western, values are believed to be an extension of rights to the individual.
In comparison the Chinese, place more value on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These values are identified as autonomy, intimacy, aspiration and acceptance. They touch on the
individual s ability for self direction, a need for love, friendship and social acceptance. They also
touch on an individual s ambition regarding success and achievements. These values reflect the
needs of individuals, and do not take communal or familial needs into account.
Historically, English couples were expected to build their own home, living separately to their
parents. Due to this practice, it is a widely believed myth, that in Australia, extended families are
not held in high regard. A survey conducted by the Australian institute of family studies, showed
that physical and emotional support was utilised both to and from extended family and that
frequent contact with extended family takes place in approximately 66% of families. The use of
cars and phones make keeping in contact much easier, even though families may be spread out
geologically.
The four main family values in Chinese culture are achieving security and prosperity, respect and
filial piety, harmony and importance of family. All these values strive to ensure the families

Physiological Perception Filters
When a person glimpses the face of a famous actor, sniffs a favourite food or hears the voice of a
friend, recognition is instant. Within a fraction of a second after the eyes, nose, ears, tongue or skin
is stimulated, one knows the object is familiar and whether it is desirable or dangerous. How does
such recognition, which psychologists call preattentive perception, happen so accurately and
quickly, even when the stimuli are complex and the context in which they arise varies?
Much is known about the way the cerebral cortex, the outer rind of the brain, initially analyses
sensory messages. Yet investigations are only now beginning to suggest how the brain moves
beyond the mere extraction of features how it combines sensory messages with ... Show more

PHASE PORTRAITS made from electroencephalograms (EEGs)
generated by a computer model of the brain reflect the overall activity of
the olfactory system at rest (above) and during perception of a familiar
scent (right). Resemblance of the portraits to irregularly shaped, but still
structured, coils of wire reveals that brain activity in both conditions is
chaotic: complex but having some underlying order. The more circular
shape of the right hand image, together with its greater segregation of
colour, indicates that olfactory EEGs are more ordered more nearly
periodic during perception than during rest.
Also, how does the brain achieve what is called generalization over equivalent receptors? Because
of turbulence in nasal airflow, only a few of the many receptors that are sensitive to an odorant are
excited during a sniff, and the selection varies unpredictably from one sniff to the next. How does
the brain recognize that signals from different collections of receptors all refer to the same
stimulus? Our investigations begin to suggest answers to both problems.
Many of our insights were derived from intensive studies of the olfactory bulb. Those experiments
show clearly that every neuron in the bulb participates in generating each olfactory perception. In
other words, the salient information about the stimulus is carried in some

The Narative Structure of the Goodfellas
Goodfellas narrative structure creates an argument parallel to the proceedings in Plato s Republic,
Book II Book IX, in which audience members are asked to re evaluate their own facility toward
filmic influences by first idolizing and then reprimanding the tyrannical man. Martin Scorsese
makes the gangster life, or the life of an unjust man, seem easy and preferable through his use of
romantic elements in his film. His unjust man, Henry Hill, is protected from every angle from the
law by way of his position in the mob, and thus is free from punishment. However, when the
narrativeform of the film switches, it is revealed that Henry is not protected from his own self
indulgence and that his life is much worse than that of a just individual a man free of harsh
personal burdens.
Martin Scorsese makes the concept of the Ring of Gyges obtainable for his protagonist Henry Hill,
and for his audience, through alluring narrative and filmic elements.
In Goodfellas, protagonist Henry Hill is given freedom from the law, freedom from punishment,
and is allowed to exploit every corner of his desires. He is given power, protection, and prestige
by his fellow mobsters and in his narration claims that he is better than the suckers in the well . In
Henry s narration he is constantly ambiguous in the face of adversity. For example, when Henry
describes how his father beat him when he was younger, he simply explains The way I saw it,
everybody has to take a beating sometime. Moments

An Analysis Of Pope Innocent IV
This source is an excerpt from a letter from Pope Innocent IV to King henry III of England on the
23rd January 1245, shortly after the sacking of Jerusalem by Khwarezmian forces in the same year.
When a Pope traditionally launches a crusade it is accompanied with excitatoria, formal letters
appealing to nobility and kings for contribution to the forthcoming campaign. Although this letter
was intended for the English king, Peter Jackson implies that the missing letter to King Louis IX
would have almost have been identical concerning its content, language and the overarching appeal
for the crusade to respond to the sacking of Jerusalem at the hands of the Khwarezmians.
Discussion on finances and indulgences for the crusade is mentioned in the... Show more content on

He immediately found himself in a difficult position as pope, with numerous issues arising, such
as the hostility escalating between the Holy Roman Emperor and the papacy, the increase of
Islamic incursions into the Holy Land and of course the Mongol invasion of Europe. There was
indeed prior warning of the defensive vulnerability of the Kingdom of Jerusalem, as Pope
Innocent IV received a letter complaining that there were only one hundred pilgrim knights
defending the city, and more reinforcements from Western Europe was needed for protection.
Although this may have been note by the newly appointed Pope, the struggle with the Holy
Roman Emperor through the continuation of Pope Gregory IX s policy against Frederick II
may have overshadowed this plea from the Holy Land. In fact, Pope Innocent IV s position was
so untenable in Rome due to the Emperor s actions to increase dissent, that he fled to Lyon and
immediately set about organising the Council of Lyon for 1245. His letter to Henry III was part
of an effort from his base in Lyon to call for a crusade in reaction to the sacking of Jerusalem by
the Khwarezmians, but he struggled to garner much support for the crusade due to the internal
struggles within Europe, with only King Louis IX fully committed to the campaign. The
relationship between Pope Innocent IV and King Henry III is one of note, as since the ties
between Rome and the English King were established early through the papal support given to
Henry at the end of the Baron s war. The papacy desperately needed political allies due to the
increasing threat posed by the military might of the Holy Roman Emperor and Henry II could be
said to be one of them. Although the papacy could find respite through their relationship between
the King of France and King of England respectively, the relationship between the two kingdoms
was strenuous. A crusade

PANCAKE
The word pancakes appears in print as early as 1430. Pancakes may have been around since
Neolithic humans domesticated einkorn wheat, ground it into flour mixed with bird s egg and
goat s milk and poured the batter on a heated rock. The Romans as revealed in the cookbook by
Apicius made dishes similar to modern pancakes. Medieval pancakes, frequently made form barley

The exact origins of this honeycombed cake are unknown, but the story of its evolution from a
thin, crisp wafer to a thick, leavened cake, is a fascinating one. It is hard to imagine the waffle
without its iconic honeycombed surface, but in the beginning it probably started as a simple, flat
cake. The ancient Greeks cooked flat cakes, called obelios, between hot metal plates. As they
spread throughout medieval Europe, the cakes made from a mixture of flour, water or milk, and
sometimes eggs became known as wafers and were also cooked over an open fire between iron
plates with long handles. At some point, perhaps in the 13th century, these began to be stamped
with various designs ranging from family crests and landscape scenes to the characteristic grid
pattern. The Dutch were particularly fond of waffles and colonists introduced them to the New
World in the early 17th century. (It was in the New World that these cakes met their perfect
companion, maple syrup.) By 1735, the word gained an extra f, becoming waffle as we know it
today. Thomas Jefferson is said to have brought the first long handled waffle iron to America in
1789. About 80 years later, New York s Cornelius Swarthout patented the first stovetop waffle iron.
Waffle cones for ice cream debuted at the 1904 World s Fair in St. Louis. On the home front, the
old stovetop waffle irons were outfitted for

Trail Builder Personal Statement
After obtaining a degree in Human Dimensions of Natural Resources, I plan on working as a
trail builder for the United States Forest Service (USFS) or a state parks department. Once I have
gained sufficient experience in the field, I plan on moving on from my job as a trail builder to
start my own trail design firm.
Throughout childhood and adolescence, I was lucky enough to spend much of my free time using
trail systems that were close to my neighborhood. These experiences shaped my environmental
ethic and formed a bond between my natural surroundings and myself. At times of turmoil I always
knew that I could set out on a trail and find peace in the solitude of the trail. Using trail systems also
sparked my interest in natural sciences, which has continued into my academic pursuits. ... Show

Several careers caught my interest, and many focused on either natural resource management or
treating human mental health disorders, but never both. After attending a weekend seminar on
sustainable trail building, I knew I had found a perfect fit. Trail building provides me with a
unique opportunity to build outdoor classrooms while also improving the sustainability of trail
systems, thereby reducing silt pollution of stream and rivers. I believe that education is the key
to overcoming the major problems facing our species such as hunger, overpopulation, and gender
and racial equality, but I have come to terms with the fact that my skill set is not best suited for
teaching. However, I am able to design and build trails that serve as classrooms for environmental
educators to facilitate learning. If there are trail systems in close proximity to schools, teachers are
more likely to take class sessions outdoors, and research has shown that this will result in increased
attention and desire to learn from their

the math, so that they can take the knowledge with them and be able to do things on their own.

  • 2. Child Custody And Family Violence Essay This article was written about the child custody and family violence. Multiple guidelines have been set forth by the American Psychological Association (APA) for those conducting forensic evaluations pertinent to child custody cases (Geffner, Conradi, Geis, Aranda, 2009). There has been a lack of assessing possible family violencewithin the family when it comes to family custody issues. In a sense that if family violence has occurred then that is not looked at when it comes to deciding how custody was going to be handled between the parents. It has been shown that when there is an assessment done to review the accusations of family violence within the family, the assessor s only look at a very basic level. They do not take a closer look to see if the violence occur or. not. There might be a case that they miss... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It has been pointed out that the lack of training for the people that are conducting forensic evaluations in these situations are hindering the process of the custody issues. These evaluators might feel that there is nothing wrong and that the child will be save with the parent that is being accused of violence. The children involved are either going to go along with the change in parenting or they are going to start resenting the parents because they have been put in a situation that they are not happy with. One mistake that an evaluator can make is to think that reports of a children s abuse to Parental Alienation Syndrome (Geffner, Conradi, Geis Aranda, 2009). Parental Alienation Syndrome is where one parent attempts to turn the child against the other parent. It is done to make the child feel like the other parent does not want them or that their parent does not care for them ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Special Operations Force (SOF) Imperatives prescribe key operational requirements that Special Forces Soldiers must incorporate into their mission planning and execution for the greatest chance at mission success. The Ugly American is a fictional book first published in 1958 that offers an insight to American arrogance, incompetence, and corruption, but bears a remarkable resemblance of how America stills thinks and functions abroad today. The book portrays characters serving as foreign dignitaries in Southeast Asia whom, for the most part, were grossly ineffective in their duties. A number of these characters served in key positions that could have made a difference in the struggle with communismhad they incorporated the SOF... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This understanding and pre planning is something that we do during a Pre Deployment Site Survey (PDSS). From personal experience, I admit that detachments that I have served on weren t as prepared as Finian. Our PDSS has returned to the detachment with questions left unanswered and I attribute that to a lack of prior understanding of the environment. If prior research is not conducted to understand the full spectrum, there is no way that a thorough site survey can occur. This can lead to an ill prepared deployment and risk damaging rapport with the host nation. Another imperative that Father Finian displayed was his ability to ensure legitimacy and credibility with the local population. He did so not by showing up as the educated, knowledgeable, and powerful American, but by making himself a peer amongst the locals. Finian knew there were three things that had to happen rather quickly: Find a courageous Catholic, learn the local language, and build an immunity to the local cuisine and water. Finding another Catholic is an obvious must; however, learning the local language and eating the local fare is an imperative that Americans are doing less of as the years go by. Learning the language and eating the food should be an obvious necessity but that s not the case. Some Americans have the arrogance that English is the superior language of the world and that others should strive to learn it. I say this because one of those Americans ... • 4. Two Generations Research Paper This generation, millennials, has a vastly different way of making it in the world than that of people from two generations ago. I interviewed my maternal grandmother for this assignment. We were raised relatively close to the same place, but in majorly different times. Blue Ridge, Georgia is only 7.5 miles from Cherry Log, Georgia. Quite a few of our answers matched, and I believe that s because my mother raised me and my two sisters the same way my grandmother raised her which was influenced by her upbringing. In addition to that, I spent a copious amount of my time as a child with my grandparents. While I was in their house, I followed their rules, which were stricter than my own parents rules, and it has made me see the world we are living... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. Summary Of The Charismatic Theology Of Luke-Acts In The Charismatic Theology of St. Luke, Robert Stronstad adduces a succinct interpretation of the significance of Holy Spirit according to Lukan theology. He examines both the Spirit s activity in Luke Acts and the implications of the Gift of the Spirit in empowering, equipping, and commissioning of Gods people for service. The text is separated into six sections covering the Holy Spiritin Luke Acts , the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament , the Holy Spirit in the Gospel of Luke , The Holy Spirit at Pentecost , The Holy Spirit in the Acts of the Apostles and the Charismatic Theology of St. Luke. In this section Stronstad highlights the work of the charismatic Spirit in the Old Testament and the charismatic Spirit in the intertestamental period. The following installment of The Charismatic Theology of St. Luke focuses on Holy Spirit in the Gospel of Luke and the Charismatic nature of Christ. In this chapter Stronstad examines how Luke observes the Spirit in the infancy narrative, inauguration narrative and various texts dispersed throughout his Gospel. A central motif within this section is Jesusfulfillment of Old testament prophetic trajectories. Next, Stronstad addresses the charismatic community and The Holy Spirit at Pentecost . He asserts: The Pentecost narrative is the story of the transfer of the charismatic Spirit from Jesus to the disciples. [...] By this transfer of the Spirit, the disciples become the heirs and successors to the earthly charismatic ministry of Jesus (Stronstad, 55). Additionally, he stresses the complexity of the gift of the Spirit. The event that transpired at Pentecost can be described as but not limited to a baptizing, clothing, outpouring, filling, and empowering of the Spirit. Acts of the Apostles chronicles the rapid advancement of the Gospel by way of the gift of the Holy Spirit. This is to say that the works of a select group of wordsmiths represented the majority of the artistic output of the largest country in the world and earned them elevated status. Russian musicat this point took place on the most miniscule of scopes, consisting mainly of folk melodies passed down equally through generations of nobility and peasantry and provided little or no status boost. An example of this type of parallelism can be found in Borodin s 1868 work Song of the Dark Forest. The Civilian Conservation Corps and the Tennessee Valley Authority had positive impacts on work and the environment during the great depression. The bill proposing the Civilian Conservation Corps was voted on and passed on March 31, 1933 under President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. In addition, the Tennessee Valley Authority was formed May 18 of this same year to work on easing environmental strains in the Tennessee Valley. Roosevelt s goal when he became president was to improve the economy and environment, and to help raise America from the depression. Easy navigation and flood control encouraged trade along the river, which boosted the economy and led to an increase in jobs for traders, deckhands, etc. (US History TVA). In addition to providing increased trade opportunities, large amounts of money that would have been spent on the flood damage that were saved by the construction of these dams. A few years into the program, stations were created in the area to monitor flooding. Reports from these stations, in addition to computer calculations, show that the total cost of the flood damage up until 2007 would have been $5.8 billion (TVA River Neighbors). The flooding would have destroyed not only people s homes, but also their businesses and livelihoods., which would have led to further unemployment. The TVA was more successful in helping the environment because it greatly improved the condition of the land in the Tennessee Valley, which was thought to be irreparable. A major goal of Roosevelts going into his first presidential term was land preservation. A nation that destroys its soils destroys itself. Forests are the lungs of our land, purifying the air and giving fresh strength to our people (Roosevelt). The area of the Tennessee Valley was so badly damaged, the land was believed by some to be nearly beyond repair. Even if they acknowledge their greed, they usually choose to ignore it and continue their quest for more. Media Literacy means attaining an understanding of mass media and how they construct meaning requires a critical process that takes one through the steps of description, analysis, interpretation, evaluation, and engagement (Campbell, Martin, Fabos, 2014). Media is often thought of in broad terms, but it s known that six corporations owns 90% of media. The six media companies are The Walt Disney Corporation, Comcast, Viacom, Time Warner, CBS Corporation, and News Corp (Lutz,2012). The Telecommunication Act of 1996 substantially changed the rules concerning ownership of the public airwaves because the FCC eliminated most ownership restrictions on radio (Campbell, Martin, Fabos, 2014). The Act in which overhauled the nation s communications regulations, most regional and long distance phone companies and cable operators, competed against one another to provide connections to the Internet. It is amazing and frightening at the same time to know that these six corporations will continue to dominant 90% of everything an American citizen hears, sees, and considers meaningful. Because of the sacrifice of time, money, and risk to make these pilgrimages, best seen by Kempe s outrageous devotion in leaving behind her life and family for long periods of time, pilgrimages assist in erasing sins in ones life. Another reason that Margery and medieval Christians would embark on these pilgrimages is for the reverence of saints and their relics that they would visit. The Middle Ages emphasized an important connection to the lives of past saints believing that the saints still had power to intercede blessings into the lives of religious people on Earth. Where Margery is set a part from common laity, during her pilgrimage to Jerusalem she receives a special spiritual gift of cryings that she can not control when religious emotion comes over her. Describing these outbursts, the author of her autobiography says, The crying was so loud and so amazing that it astounded people... (Windeatt, 104). It is assumable that emotional experiences upon pilgrimages of either laity or monastics to such places as the Holy Land would be common, however that people were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Immanuel Kant On Animal Rights Immanuel Kant believed that only humans are to be treated as end and that animals do not have moral value they are only a means to our ends. Kant did not consider animals to be moral agents and since animals are not moral agents then they are not ends in themselves therefore they do not deserve rights. As a student of philosophy I found myself disagreeing completely with Kant s view on animal rights. I recognize the differences between humans and animals, yet I believe that the differences do not separate animals from deserving rights. Research has proven that many non humans share capacities that are viewed as unique to humans. Also if Kant s consideration for rights is based on being a rational being or a moral agent then many being in society who are held with moral values would not be deserving... Kant believed this because if a person decides to treat animals abusively or wrongly then that person may encounter problems with other people. Acting inhumanely toward any other person or non human animal is not morally right in any situation as it will not only affect the subject being treated wrongly but it will affect the person doing the actions character. Kant also believed that it is only morally right for a person to act from duty only and for no other reason. An example would be if an animal was hit by a car and a person stopped to observe the scene. The person examines the animal s injuries and sees that the animal just needs medical attention. Kant would say that the person should take the animal to receive medical attention. Business plays a vitally important role in this issue because it has been a major contributor to carbon in the atmosphere. Though climate change could be caused by thousands of reasons, like natural factors, however, scientists think that the recent phenomenon of global warming can t be explained by nature alone. Most scientists say it s very likely that most of the warming since the mid 1900s is due to the burning of coal, oil and gas...This burning adds heat trapping gases, like carbon dioxide, into the air. These gases are called greenhouse gases (NASA, 2011). The industrial production which needs tons of fuels and other raw materials burned is an enormous source of greenhouse gases which might be the most core factor of causing climate change. Business is also influenced by climate change in return which is changing the landscape of business. Businesses that depend on water, like skiing industry, bottled spring water industry, the oil industry and etc., are affected by climate change because these industries need a constant and steady supply of water including different forms, for instance, snow. The Great Famine Of Irish Nationalism French political leader Charles de Gaulle said that nationalism is when hate for people other than your own comes first, by this definition turning points in Irish Nationalism can be seen not as what changed as in regards love for Ireland, but what changed hatred for the English withinin Ireland. There are numerous significant turning points in Irish Nationalism; it could be argued that The Great Famine is the largest turning point in Irish Nationalism as it encouraged independence through means of violence as well as cementing a deep rooted hatred of the English in Ireland. Equally, the failure of the First Home Rule Bill can be maintained as the largest turning point as it led to the decline of the liberals, Charles Stuart Parnell and constitutional nationalism. Alternatively, The First World War can be judged as the prime turning point, mainly due to its short term affects. It split the nationalists, which led to the Easter rising, and increased agitation over Home Rule. It could be argued that The Great Famine was the utmost turning point in Irish Nationalism due to the lack of action of the British Government, which left deep rooted hatred for the English within Ireland. Government expenditure for the famine equaled a total of ВЈ8 million, 3% of the total government budget. The British Government stuck closer to a laissez faire economic policy, which is echoed through Charles Trevelyan who claimed that through relief people grow worse instead of better. The Irish ... The movie Transporter 2 of 2005 directed by Louis Leterrier and starring Jason Statham as Frank Martin is just an example of how the male and female genderare assigned given roles that bring out their characters as distinct (Leterrier). • 32. The Temperance Movement Of The Early 1900 S During the early 1900 s America was in its Gilded Age . The economy was booming and everyone seemed to be happy from the outside. But, there were many problems going on in the United States. In the factories where most people worked there were corrupt bosses, the people were overworked and there was child labor. The only salvation that these people had was to drink. The workers drank to calm down and feel no pain. But this destroyed families because they were almost constantly drunk. They would sometimes lose their only job because of the drinking. So, a lot of religious groups and many women started the temperance movement. There have been many people who have supported temperance in the past and it dates all the way back to when the Bible was written. Eventually the 18th Amendment was passed on January 26th 1919. This amendment was known as the Noble Experiment . This turned out to be a complete failure. This law was impossible to enforce because of the corrupt police and there was alcohol almost everywhere. In this paper I will go over alcohol use, attempts to fight alcohol abuse, and the rise in crime due to the money that could be made in corruption. Alcohol has been around for ages. There is evidence of alcohol in China in 7,000 b.c. The average amount of calories in a glass of beer is 150 calories, 125 calories for a glass of wine, and 100 calories for liquor. • 33. Difference Between Forensic Anthropology And Forensic... There are many different forms of forensic studies. Two of these forms are forensic anthropology and forensic pathology. Though there are similarities in these two fields, there are also many differences. When choosing whether to have a career in Forensic Anthropology or Forensic Pathology, one must first know the differences in salary, the focus of study, the different education and certifications needed for each career, diverse abilities needed, personality types, as well as the distinctive software used in each field. To begin, although there are many different career options for both Forensic Anthropology and Forensic Pathology, the difference in salary can influence which career path some desire to work in. For example, the average yearly salary for a forensic anthropologist was around fifty four thousand dollars (A., n.d.), while the average annual salary for a forensic pathologist was just over one hundred and ninety thousand dollars (Franklin, B. (Ed.). (n.d.)). With this gap in annual salary, an individual could face the dilemma of choosing between what they want to do, or the amount of money they want to make. Though this is a large difference, some individuals may decide that the salary does not matter opposed to following one s dreams. In any case, the person will find a specific area of study to focus on. Though there are many similarities in these two careers, their fields of study are very different. The main difference is the career description. Forensic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Npm And Performance Management Related Literatures CHAPTER 2 LITERATURE REVIEW The NPM Model has focused on delivering market inspired results and was primarily concerned with efficiency and performance. (Jarrar and Schiuma, 2007) 2.1. INTRODUCTION Efficiency and performance become two key words for the reform that held by countries in the world. Started in the developed countries, namely United Kingdom and United States under their leader, Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reaganera, this doctrine then spread to Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Africa, Latin America and Asia. This movement also inevitably followed as one of the pressure of country s exogenous factors. The main purpose of this Chapter is to address NPM and Performance Management related literatures. First, the definition of NPM, its objectives and characteristic is clarified in Section 2.2.1. Section 2.3 expands on the explanation of NPM in developing countries. The Chapter progresses with elaborating Performance Management themes in Section 2.4 encompassing definition, essences and challenges, before concluding in Section 2.5. 2.2. The individuals who tend to present this trait tend to identify themselves as forceful, assertive and self confident, (Wiggins 1995; Zeigler Hill; Qinglin Zhang 2013). The social dominance that typically accompanies extraversion can aid various self esteem regulatory functions; examples of this include sustaining and augmenting feelings of self worth as well as communicating these thoughts about the self to the social environment. This pattern is coherent with the reasoning that self esteem is a determining factor and that self esteem is associated with relative positions of dominance in hierarchies, (Kirkpatrick Ellis, 2001) Perceived self esteem was positively connected with recognised traits of extraversion, conscientiousness and emotional solidity. Together, these results insinuate that the perceivers believed that individuals who were classed as extraverted, conscientious and emotionally stable possessed greater levels of self esteem. It wasn t until I was older I decided to play the sport with a passion. I have noticed track runners come in various body compositions including body mass and height, which made me ponder, does height of a runner affect their speed? With all things being equal (body mass, proportionality and stride rate) the mechanics of running depends upon more than runner height. According to most researchers, the height of the runner can be a factor that helps increase speed, but the mechanics of a runner s stride, and how the runner s body responds to training also can make a runner faster. A runner should have a steady stride rate and have a manageable body mass and have an equal proportionally in order to maximize his or her potential. Background information Running is a type of gait characterized by an aerial phase in which all feet are above the ground (though there are exceptions). Running is a method of transportation allowing humans and other animals to move rapidly on foot ( Running ). This is in contrast to walking, where one foot is always in contact with the ground, the legs are kept mostly straight and the center of gravity vaults over the stance leg or legs in an inverted pendulum fashion. Ten years ago, I was a florist until my doctor diagnosed me with arthritis. I resolved then to get enough funds to draw back and live as comfortably as I could. • 40. Hydrogen Peroxide And Catalase Reaction Lab The rate of reaction between Catalase and the hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) can vary depending on many factors including the enzyme concentration in a solution. In this investigation, the rate of reaction will be measured by the change in temperature of the liquefied spinach (catalase) over a period of 30 seconds, once the hydrogen peroxide(H2O2) has been added into the solution. It is expected that the change in temperature will initially increase as the concentration of the Catalase increases in the hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). As more Catalase is added into the hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), the rate of reaction is expected to increase due to a higher concentration of enzyme present and therefore a greater frequency of successful collisions between the enzyme and substrates resulting in a faster breakdown of the substrate. However, as the concentration of the Catalase approaches 100% concentrated, it is expected for the change in temperature (reaction rate) to plateau. This occurs as there is only a ... The hypothesis was tested by adding 50ml of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) into four different concentrations of Catalase (25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%). It is an important factor in science because it can lead to new discoveries for cures or diseases. The impulse is then sent to another neuron, and the process repeats until the nerves are at rest. The effect of the signals depends on what the target is. If the target of the signal is a muscle cell, the effect might be a muscle contraction. The speed of the electrical impulse depends on the size of the nerve fiber. In small nerves, the rate it transmits impulses is from a half to two meters a second. The larger the diameter of the nerve fiber, the higher rate of conducting impulses. There is less electrical resistance in thick fibers. When nerve impulse jumps from one node (gaps in nerve fibers) to the next, it is called saltatory conduction. Saltatory conduction conducts faster because it contains an insulator that prevents leakage of currents. The rate of conduction is 2 to 120 meters a second. Not all nerves conduct impulse electrochemically. Some impulses jump from nerve to nerve, bypassing the synapse. Unlike other cells, once neurons are lost, they can t be regenerated. Fortunately, there are about 10 billion neurons and they have other cells to aid them in carrying messages to other nerves. But if nerves are severed, the nerve fibers can regenerate if the two ends are reattached precisely. However, restored functions may produce different actions because the nerves might not be connected to the right channel. How does such recognition, which psychologists call preattentive perception, happen so accurately and quickly, even when the stimuli are complex and the context in which they arise varies? The more circular shape of the right hand image, together with its greater segregation of colour, indicates that olfactory EEGs are more ordered more nearly periodic during perception than during rest. Also, how does the brain achieve what is called generalization over equivalent receptors? Because of turbulence in nasal airflow, only a few of the many receptors that are sensitive to an odorant are excited during a sniff, and the selection varies unpredictably from one sniff to the next. How does the brain recognize that signals from different collections of receptors all refer to the same stimulus? Our investigations begin to suggest answers to both problems. His unjust man, Henry Hill, is protected from every angle from the law by way of his position in the mob, and thus is free from punishment. He immediately found himself in a difficult position as pope, with numerous issues arising, such as the hostility escalating between the Holy Roman Emperor and the papacy, the increase of Islamic incursions into the Holy Land and of course the Mongol invasion of Europe. There was indeed prior warning of the defensive vulnerability of the Kingdom of Jerusalem, as Pope Innocent IV received a letter complaining that there were only one hundred pilgrim knights defending the city, and more reinforcements from Western Europe was needed for protection. Although this may have been note by the newly appointed Pope, the struggle with the Holy Roman Emperor through the continuation of Pope Gregory IX s policy against Frederick II may have overshadowed this plea from the Holy Land. In fact, Pope Innocent IV s position was so untenable in Rome due to the Emperor s actions to increase dissent, that he fled to Lyon and immediately set about organising the Council of Lyon for 1245. His letter to Henry III was part of an effort from his base in Lyon to call for a crusade in reaction to the sacking of Jerusalem by the Khwarezmians, but he struggled to garner much support for the crusade due to the internal struggles within Europe, with only King Louis IX fully committed to the campaign. The ancient Greeks cooked flat cakes, called obelios, between hot metal plates. As they spread throughout medieval Europe, the cakes made from a mixture of flour, water or milk, and sometimes eggs became known as wafers and were also cooked over an open fire between iron plates with long handles. At some point, perhaps in the 13th century, these began to be stamped with various designs ranging from family crests and landscape scenes to the characteristic grid pattern.
