The Importance Of Environmental Problems In The World
Environmental problems are known to be a Wicked problem because there are so many sides one
must please, and ultimately never solve. From power, transportation, food scarcity; each one of
these face technological and government borders. The fact is it is hard to make people agree, it is
truly remarkable that the United Nations still stands and operates today when so many earlier
versions of it have failed. Still when countries are not at war together, their own country is not
revolution, the topic of the environment takes center stage. Because events like global warmingare
not one country s problem, btu everyone s as humans are all connected by the same ocean. Brining
in environmentally friendly buildings, to working with municipalities, schools, and communities to
become more green. How the ever growing population leads to more problems, and above all how
one teacher can make a difference in so many student s lives. The world is forever changing, which
is why humans have to change with it, and what not better time to change when one leaves the
comfort of their parents and embark of to their first grand adventure to university.

Similarities Between Populist And Progressive Movements
Populist and Progressive Reform in American History Throughout American history, reform was
common among people of a particular, race, gender, or class used to accomplish change. The
emergence of the populist and progressive movements were a response to the changing climate in
American society due to rapid industrialization, an ethnically diverse personality of a young nation,
and birth of American imperialism. Disgruntled American farmers that wished to advance their
economic position initiated the Populist movement. Progressives pushed to improve urban labor
conditions, dismantle trusts and monopolies, conserve of environment, and to install an active
government. Populism and Progressivism had many similarities and differences, which... Show

Discontented farmers, despite their passion, lacked the numbers to make a national impact. They
accomplished many of their goals, though most were not recognized as populist achievements.
Ultimately, class played a primary role in the apparent failure of the populists in comparison to the
success of the progressives. Despite the brevity of its existence, the Populist movement exercised a
profound influence on subsequent U.S. political life. Almost all the Populist demands, which at one
time were widely viewed as radical and contradictory to America s free enterprise system, were
eventually enacted into law. The Progressive Movement was an outgrowth of previous reform eras,
including the ideas first presented by the Populists. While many Progressives were originally anti
Populists, they eventually came to believe that the large corporations and other monopolies that
they were trying to reform were similar to the farmer s revolts against the railroads and commercial
practices and regulations of the government. As a continuation of populist ideology, the progressive
movement accomplished a great feat with the passing of the Interstate Commerce Act and the
Sherman Antitrust Act. The Interstate Commerce Act of 1887 created the Interstate Commerce
Commission, the first true federal regulatory agency, to control the issues of railroad abuse and
discrimination. Railroad companies were required to have and publish reasonable

How Did Ruth Bader Ginsberg Impact Society
Throughout time, many individuals have stood up and fought for what they believed in. Many
have impacted society, but the most important ones are the people who took charge and lead
others to accomplish what seemed impossible. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg has
impacted American society by being a superb role model. Ruth Bader has demonstrated her idol
stance by proving women could also excel as much as men can academically. When Ginsberg

Summary Of Mother Who Gave Me Life By Gwen Harwood
The poem Mother Who Gave Me Life by Gwen Harwood, is about the speaker s mother and her
life that is near death. This focused universal thematic concern of motherhood is conveyed through
a reflective tone, as the speaker is seen to acutely contemplate her mother s life and the wisdom
she has been taught. Gwen Harwood uses a eulogy structure to undertow the reader s focus to the
praise the speaker has for her mother. As well as creatively embedding the use of enjambment,
repetition and metaphors, Harwood attempts to convey the emotion of the speaker reconciling her
final moments with her mother.
The reflective tone of the poem plays an important part in substantiating the eulogy structure
represented through the speaker. The importance of the title and implementations of enjambment as
well as a past tense structure help communicate the reflective tone of the poem. What define a
reflective tone is how it illustrates the emotions and thoughts of the speaker. The use of enjambment
offers an insight to the reader of the reflective, as thoughts can often be free flowing, just as
enjambment is deemed to be. By Harwood utlising enjambment throughout the poem, implies how
the speaker is reflecting on change throughout life. As the speaker matures throughout the poem,
she learns the maternal roles and how they change through generations ... Show more content on

Critical Criticism Of Hester Prynne
Hester Prynne. Not the Heroine.
In the critical essay On the Scarlet Letter , by D.H Lawrence, Lawrence analyzes the character
Hester Prynne from the novel The Scarlet Letter , and how her life is portrayed. According to
Lawrence, Hester is not worthy of the praise she is given by Nathaniel Hawthorne. D.H. Lawrence
uses the techniques of repetition, compact syntax and biblical allusions to effectively convey his
negative attitudes towards Hester Prynne. Lawrence uses the repetition of certain words to drill
them into the reader s mind. The continuous use of the phrase A. Adulteress! throughout the essay
reinforces Hester s sin, and reminds the reader that she is a sinner, rather than someone worthy of
praise (Lawrence). This repetition resembles the physical scarlet letter, in the sense that D.H.
Lawrence is shaming Hester over and over again, similar to how the Puritans shamed Hester
throughout her life. Moreover, the name of the object that was pinned to Hester s breast, The
Scarlet Letter is also repeated throughout Lawrence s essay (Lawrence). By using this phrase,
Hester is reduced to her sin, stripping away all of her good deeds, because the emphasis is
placed on her sinful actions rather than her personal qualities and life after the sin, which does
not give the reader a chance to focus on any positive qualities Hester possesses. In addition, the
scarlet letter holds the negative connotations of sin, punishment and adultery. By repeating Scarlet
Letter , the reader s mind is filled with these negative connotations, thus reiterating Lawrence s
opinion that Hester is the source of evil and her actions should not have been glorified. Lawrence
s repetition of these phrases reinforces Hester s sin and shameful actions, which effectively
conveys his dismissive feelings towards Hester. The use of compact syntax highlights Lawrence s
disapproval of Hester Prynne by abruptly and continuously shooting her down. The concise
sentence Adulteress. Alpha. Abel, Adam. A. America shoots at Hester with negative words
(Lawrence). This rapid fire structure effectively degrades Hester as each word delivers an
individual blow to her character and degrades her, by restating her sin, the letter A which

A Brief Look at Global Warming
So what actually is global warming? Obviously the name explains it; the globe becoming
warmer. But what does it mean to become warmer ? The sun isn t getting hotter; the world isn t
traveling closer to the sun. Global warming is when rapid moving particles collide more and more
with other rapid moving particles and are trapped by the atmosphere s thick layer of gasmolecules.
As more heat is trapped, particles that are in earth s atmosphere collide with each other. As more
collisions are present, the average kinetic energy which is the average speed at which the particles
collide with one another increases therefore the temperature increases which affects many aspects
of life.
A predominant factor as to why global warming happens is more gas particles exposed in the air
because of an increase in gases produced by industries. Gases such as CO2 and SO2 are constantly
harming our environment by regularly adding more harmful gasses into our atmosphere. Due to
forest fires, industries, factories, and new found technology such as the car, many harmful gas
molecules are surrounding us. These harmful gas molecules collide with our healthy atmospheric
particles which make the amount of gas particles increase dreadfully. Since more collisions
between these different particles are occurring, the average kinetic energy is raised therefore the
temperature increases as well. As more particles are added into the atmosphere, it becomes denser
and gasses are getting trapped into our

Reflection Paper On Perseverance
Research Reflection
Before I began researching I was really passionate about the ability to persevere and I knew I
wanted to talk about perseverance and explain why it was such an essential characteristic to
have. I especially wanted to find examples of many others that had to persevere to get through
their own tough times. But when I originally started researching my topic I did not exactly have
anything in mind about what I was exactly looking for. This was mainly due to that I had the
ideas in my head but did not know how to put those in a way that I could deliver it for the whole
class to understand. So as I began researching I focused on just using perseverance in school, like
not giving up after not getting a concept the first time. But after looking through a few articles I
found many examples of when perseverance was used in other ways, such as building things for
society or ways in which one can be successful. This then broadened my perspective on
perseverance and showed me the benefits of it.
The Grit: the Power of Passion and Perseverance. Ted Talk video was extremely helpful for my
research since it gave me numerous amounts of examples of how the main thing that distinguishes
kids for who they are is perseverance. I found out that one s intelligence quality is not determined
by their test scores, but rather it is determined by how they improve on making those test scores
the best they can be. Most of the things in the Ted Talk I had heard about before or

Sacrifice In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Romeo and Juliet have a love for each other, unlike any other love story. They sacrifice plenty of

Ultimately, because Romeo and Juliet and willing to make sacrifices for one another, their lovedoes

there for eachother, and sacrificing things. In this essay, you will learn about now Romeo and
Juliet love is real, and not just lust. They go places, lose their lives, sacrificethings, and more for
each other. The first reason that shows Romeo and Juliet are actually in love, is that Romeo is to
risk his life to sneak into the Capulet orchard even though, he could get killed if caught. When
Juliet realizes Romeo is in the orchard, she immediately fears for his life, but Romeo announces,

did this for Juliet and that their love is real is, Well Juliet, I will lie with thee tonight. Let s see

piece of evidence is showing how Romeo came back to Juliet, no matter the consequences. He

Nestorius Research Paper
Stupidity likes to take a shower in the morning. A wave loudly crashing against a shoreline slips
on a banana peel. Pinocchio is omni present, much like candy. Tomorrow is like a painted flower,
it never wilts. These sentences are ridiculous, right? The way you are feeling right now after
listening to them is the exact same way the council felt about Nestorius teachings. The council
went even farther than nonsensicality and called him a heretic. But, more on that later.
Nestorius was born in Syria in 386 AD, and was a priest and monk in the monastery of
Euprepius. Theodore of Mopsuetia taught him in clerical training in Antioch. His sermons were
so phenomenal that Emperor Theodosius II inaugurated him as Patriarch of Constantinople in
428 AD. Shortly after, Nestorius became involved in two theological factions debating in their
Christology. One side said the Jesus was born as a man, and they called Mary Theotokos,
meaning God bearer. The other side argued that this title of Mary was incorrect because God
could not be born on account of his eternal nature. Nestorius tried to find a middle ground. He
decided to call Mary Christokos, meaning Christ bearer. He did this so it would not seem like God

Before the meeting was supposed to take place and any eastern bishops of Antioch arrived, Cyril
began the assembly. He sent letters summoning Nestorius. Cyril used the Nicene Creed to
disprove Nestorius, saying that Jesus flesh did not turn into the godhead, and the nature of God
did not turn into flesh. He says Jesus became one with the flesh in a Hypostatic Union. Cyril
proposed twelve anathemas that were accepted by the church. They basically said if anyone does
or does not do something, they will be anathema. In other words, they will be condemned and
basically sent to hell. Nestorius declined the summons of Cyril and was therefore deprived of his
dignity in the church and detached from his college of

The Use of Marijuana for Medicinal Purposes Essay
The use of marijuana for medicinal purposes has long been at the centre of much controversy. Some
studies have shown results that the benefits of using marijuana for medicinal reasons far outweigh
the negative health matters that may be associated with its use, and therefore should be an accepted
method of treatment for some patients who are suffering with illnesses such as multiple sclerosis,
cancer, AIDS, and eating disorders (Okie, 2005). Still, other studies have proven that there is not
enough scientific evidence on the drug, there for it should not be legalized for the use of
medication (Hutchings, 2002). Currently the issue is moving forward, although not without
controversy, but it is unclear when a clear decision will be made.... Show more content on

The Chemical breakdown of cannabis, which marijuana is a herbal product of, contains many
components that prove beneficial in the medical field. Parts of the medical field that these
components benefit would include various neurological conditions, such as spasticity, pain or
sleeping disorders. It is currently difficult to conclude whether these benefits overpower the
risks that a person with a neurological disorder would be taking. However Canadian surveys
have showed that in two neurological disorder cases, multiple sclerosis and epilepsy, cannabis
has proven to be beneficial to symptom relief. People with these disorders using cannabis have
gotten relief from both their primary symptoms and other symptoms associated with their
disorders. In people with epilepsy, the severity and frequency of their seizures was reduced. In
people with multiple sclerosis were found to have reduced pain and spasticity, as well as being
relived from psychological symptoms caused by the disorder. Without the use of cannabis in some
users, they would have a much more difficult time dealing with the symptoms of their disorders
(Wingerchuk, 2004). However, there still remains a lot of opposition on the topic of medical
marijuana.
In the article by Doctor Reginald Hutchings, from Charlottetown P.E.I., discusses the negative side
of marijuana. As a physician, Hutchings states that he will not prescribe marijuana to his patients

HBR Regal Carnation Hotel, Guam
The case revolves around the Regal Carnation Hotel, located in Guam. Partly narrated by Steve
McKenzie, he described his experience with the Regal Carnation Hotel. In his description of the
situation, the me too approach to hotel management led to poor service, false representation, and a
pricing plan that does not match the value of the hotel. The hotel industry in Guam has important
statistical information that will lead to an effective analysis.
Over a period of years, Guam has experienced a boost to its tourism industry. The year 1967 was
the beginning of that upward trend. that includes support from the United States. However, the
decline of the Japanese economy in the 1900 s and onward severely damaged the economy of
Guam. How ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mr. McKenzie was immediately uncomfortable with the policy of the hotel. In his line of business,
he knew that a successful company would not follow this procedure, when booking a customer s
reservation.
Our second question was Did the Regal Carnation always misrepresent itself on the website and was
this intentional. Looking at the case, it states that the tourism industry was in its maturity state by
2007. During this time hotels were running elaborate campaigns to make their hotels and business
stand out. But with the declining pool of tourists, there was less profit to be made and as a result
less money to reinvest into the hotel. It is no surprise then; that given time and diminished
incentive to reinvest, that the website told a different story than reality. If the McKenzie s would
have researched a little more, followed up on their gut intuitions about the Regal Carnation, and
considered how it fits in with Guam s overall economy and history perhaps they would have
realized the fallacy of deciding upon value based solely on a website.
It is commonly believed that each product in business goes through what is called a product life
cycle. It can typically be divided into four distinctive categories. Simply put, Introduction, Growth,
Maturity and Decline are the four names that describe the different sections. Guam s tourism
industry is currently going through the Decline stage of the product life cycle.

Do people embrace death and live every moment to the fullest until it is their time to go? One
man, Dudley Clendinen, a writer for the New York Times, did just that. His article is about his

The 1990 s: A Political of war on Mexicans in California
The early 1990 s suffered poor economic situations in the United States. The blame had to be put
somewhere so Governor Pete Wilson of California decided to vocally address this issue with his
proposed Proposition 187 in 1994. At this time California was facing economic recession and
adamantly felt that the massive immigration of illegal immigrants from Mexico was the primary
reason for residents economic struggles. Proposition 187, promoted as the Save Our State
initiative, called for a dismissal of the availability of public service such as education and health
care to illegal immigrants. It also aided in their deportation, as people such as nurses and teachers
would be required to report suspected illegal immigrants to authorities. This initiative was able to

The economic concerns of the California residents were that the illegal immigrants were taking too

The report includes areas such as defining an IPO, the performance of IPO s, the current market

retail or non professional investor who may be engaged in purchasing IPO s. I look to determine if
the underlying facts create certainty that these instruments are profitable currently and in the long

offerings since the 2007 2008 financial crisis. Many investors believe purchasing IPO s can create
quick realized gains. However, it appears that the performance of these issues has lagged the
broader market, which in my opinion should steal zeal from these risky investments. The figures

To agree with the statement, disguise and deception is...
To agree with the statement, disguise and deception is used widely by Shakespeare. Throughout
the play we only see Viola in her disguise as Cesario . From Act 1, Scene 2, we see her planning
on using the disguise of a man to serve Orsino. The interactions between her and the other
characters show dramatic ironyas they do not realise who Cesario actually is, however the audience
does. Orsino, at the start of Act 2, scene 4 says Now good morrow, friends; Now, good Cesario.
Orsino does not know the actual person he is talking to when he praises Cesario, just the same
when he says Cesario is semblative a woman s part , saying that Cesario looks like a woman. For

This is when Portia and Nerissa disguise themselves as men, specifically a lawyer and a clerk, as
a way to save Antonio. This links into the way Viola uses an inner disguise to shield her real
personality, she first goes into her disguise at the docks in Act 1, scene 2 when she says to the
Captain Conceal me what I am, and be my aid. For such disguise as haply shall become the form
of my intent. This shows how she is covering up what I am [she is] a woman, by the personality
and physical disguise of a man. From this point onwards there is comedy due to the fact that she is
disguised as a man and is fooling every other character, with the audience knowing all about this.
This also shows that Shakespeare respects the audience enough to not have them fooled by Viola
s disguise ;and he shows more sexual equality, as Viola plays a major part in the story and
without her the play would have a lot less comedy. The structure of the play relies mostly on her
actions, for example there would have been no love triangle without her and all the other
characters would not have been deceived by her. Therefore, there would be no dramatic irony to
create amusement. So, the dramatic irony of Viola s disguise makes characters seem ignorant and
ridiculous creating comedy, but also through the audience s knowledge of Viola s true identity.
Shakespeare resolves this confusion by Viola revealing herself in the last act, making it a zenith
ending, with all the characters present

Visualization on how Self Handicapping Can Lead to Procrastination and Low Self Esteem
Self esteem is the central component of every individual s daily life experiences. Self esteem
can be defined as a person s evaluation of the self, e.g. I am not satisfied with me or I like me. We
perform self evaluations on ourselves everyday; it is a non conscious process where as only the
individual knows the end result. Important domains affect us, and unimportant domains do not
(things tailored specifically to the individual). When an individual experiences an emotional gut
feeling , the individual feels either good or bad about themselves. As human beings, we have a

Procrastination is a form of self handicapping that can be applied to almost any aspect in one s
life. The most common thread of procrastination is fear; fear of failure, fear of unpleasant or
painful experiences, and the fear of missing out. When you fear failure you are prone to avoid
involve yourself to begin with. Out of the fear of failing and looking bad, they would often
spend vast amounts of time on a project without making any real progress because at a
subconscious level they don t want to finish a finished project will make them vulnerable for
criticism and consequently failure (Klassen et al. 918) If an procrastinator believes that a task is
going to be an undesirable experience then they will feel constrained not to do it. All these fears
can lead a person to self handicap. A lot of times, a person who might both self handicap and
procrastinate, will use drugs and/alcohol to utilize their actions; an example is drinking the night
before an exam. This individual, who chooses to go out before the exam, is giving themselves an
excuse to why they will not do well on this exam. This is an easy way for this person to maintain
their self esteem level. Baumeister allows me to introduce this concept (409)

Ionotropic receptors is a binding site that opens when an ion attaches to the binding site. The
ionotropic receptor is also a direct method to the ion channels. Ionotropic receptors has a channel
where molecules move in and out of the ion channel. The ions that goes into the ion channel are

this delightful romp, Rosalind stands out as the most robust, multidimensional and lovable
character, so much so that she tends to overshadow the other characters in an audience s memory,
making them seem, by comparison, just stock dramatic types . Yet, As You Like It is not a stock
romance that just happens to have Shakespeare s greatest female role. The other members of the
cast provide a well balanced supporting role, and are not just stereotypes. Characters whom
Shakespeare uses to illustrate his main theme of the variations of love are all more than one use ...

Though the range of her acting sub roles alone would make the other characters look pale, the depth
of each of her many parts outshines many. As a woman in love she demonstrates a range of
emotion and action that far exceeds that of Celia, Phoebe or Audrey. It is her romance with
Orlando that is the focus of the play, and the one held up as the ideal, and therefore the one that
gets most of Shakespeare s attention as a playwright. Rosalind s gushing first meeting with
Orlando, a stark contrast to her masterly handling of Le Beau just before, shows a more
vulnerable Rosalind. Rosalind s playful fantasizing about Orlando after the wrestling match and
after verses start appearing on trees shows a depth of infatuation not explored with the other
characters, except Phoebe, though Phoebe is shown up to have a more stock kind of silly
infatuation rather than Rosalind s more courtly lovesickness. Rosalind s momentary drops of her
guise as Ganymede playing Rosalind, such as when she faints at seeing the bloody handkerchief,
show that Rosalind is human, and these involuntary glimpses of the true lover forced out by sheer
emotion place Rosalind on a higher level of love than the more ordinary, stereotypical posturing of
Phoebe.
As wit and philosopher Rosalind plays a dominant role, though here Celia, Touchstone and Jaques
are less flat in comparison to Rosalind. Celia and Rosalind both show indomitable tongues when
mocking Le Beau and confusing

Hennessey Venom Swot Analysis
A car to a normal person will get you from point A to point B and not think anything different. To
other individuals, a car is actually a part of its owner. They treat it as part of the family. These
individuals will take their pride and joy and manipulate their automobile to get the most out of it.
This could be just for looks or for performance. One of the most important things to a car junkie
looks for is speed. Since the day the automobilewas created, individuals kept pushing the limits of
how fast they could go. The Model T when it was invented had a top speed between 40 45 MPH
back in 1919. These days, individuals have been able to slightly improve upon those numbers. In
2014, a Hennessey Venom GT, a combination of a Lotus Elise chassis and 1,244 hp 7.0 liter twin
turbocharged V8, was recorded as exceeding 270.49 mph.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Since the Hennessey Venom GT only made one run, the Guinness Book of World Records
would not validate its speed as the world s fastest car. While everyone loves to drive fast, only a
few are able to say they have driven the fastest ever. It will only be a matter of time before we have
automobiles that could well top 300 MPH. The more science and computers play into the area of
creating the fastest automobile, the records, we feel, will be breaking over and over again for a

Life Can Bring Out The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly
Life can bring out the good, the bad, and the ugly. Most people can identify one person who
shares these three traits. Heroes usually take the form of the good, while villains take the form
of the bad or even the ugly. However, one thing remains certain. Most people who are brought up
to become heroes are unsung heroes. They are not famous, nor recognized for their deeds.
Instead, this breed of heroes commits themselves to the greater good, not to the fame or
extravagant lives some heroes eventually live. Ho Chi Minh is one example of this. His actions
throughout the course of his life were for the greater good of the Vietnamese people. In the year

Rhetorical Devices In One Thousand Paper Cranes
Mode Paragraph: The rhetorical mode of One Thousand Paper Cranes a is narrative that follows
the narrative arc. It is narrative because it follows the narrative arc of exposition, inciting
incident, rising action, climax, falling action, and a resolution throughout the story. The books
starts off with the inciting incident of the bomb being on Hiroshima which cause Sadoko to
become ill and die in the future. The rising action lets us follow Sadoko as her condition worsens
The climax of the book is Sadoko s death if shifted the direction of the book to a what will
happen next. The falling action let s Sadoko s class take charge of how the will remember her.
The resolution is Sadoko s class fundraising to have the peace park built for all the kids that died
because of the radiation. That is why the rhetorical mode of One Thousand Paper Cranes is narrative
.
Character Paragraph: In this story Sadoko is the protagonist that is having to overcome the
newly grow issue of leukemia. Also this story main focuses on her and her action. I believe
Sadoko is a flat character because throughout the book we are reminded of her strong will and
determination which was never be deterred until death. Which can be seen when Sadoko is
described as being vibrant and athletic and we know on page 32 and toward the end you can see
her hard work never ended when she still continued to make paper cranes even after her condition
worsened. In addition, I believe Sadoko is a dynamic character. Came to this conclusion, we see
her express many different characters. She is happy, saddened at times, kind, Optimistic, and
cheerful. In conclusion, I feel these ways because Sadoko s spirit and many character traits stand
strong.
Point Of View Paragraph: The point of view of this story is third person omniscient because we
are able to understand the feelings and thought process inside of each character. The paragraph I
will rewrite is on page 41 and I will change the point of view from third person omniscient to first
person.

Wooden Fish Songs, a historical novel written by Ruthanne Lum McCunn, is written with three
narrators. The main character in this story is Lue Gim Gong, a Chinese immigrant who gives up his
country and family to pursue his passion for botany. Three women that knew him the best narrate
Lue Gim Gong s story from three distinct cultures and three distinct points of view. They include
his mother Sum Jui, his teacher Fanny Burlingame, and a friend that he makes named Sheba. Their
contrasting perspectives are carefully interwoven from chapter to chapter. Lue, however, never gets
a voice throughout the book; this makes Lue Gim Gong s life even more puzzling than it already is.

Fanny also converts Lue to Christianity and encourages his garden research but keeps him
financially dependent. Fanny is the daughter of a strict industrialist; she is well drawn in this novel.
She is too strong to accept the lack of power women faced at the time. Uninterested in men, she
invests all of her emotions in Jesus until she meets Lue Gim Gong.
She sees Lue as her creation; others see him as her pet. In fact, he is more independent than she
can accept. Rudely rejecting the possibility of a positive influence from his own family, she says
how she made him as much of an improved variety of Chinaman as his salmonberry, cherry
currant, and tomato were of plants (McCunn, 154). Though her closeness to him it allows her to be
offended by others racism, as she regards him as someone special rather than a typical Chinaman.
After Fanny s death, he was barred from the church they had regularly worshipped in, on account of
his color.
Finally there is Sheba, Fanny s black servant whose father was murdered by the Ku Klux Klan
shortly after winning his freedom from slavery. Sheba worked alongside Lue in the orange groves
and probably understood him best. This is because Sheba s eyes were the least blinded by
prejudice and ignorance. Unlike their white neighbors, neither Lue nor Sheba was too proud to
share their different knowledge and company.

Strategic Challenges For Local Communities
Strategic Challenges for Local Communities The Department of Homeland Security released the
2014 Quadrennial Homeland Security Review on June 18, 2014 as required by the Homeland
Security Act of 2002 and its amendments. This review outlined the current state of preparedness, as
well as the future areas of concentration. It also determined six strategic challenges facing the
nation: terrorist threat; growing cyber threats; biological concerns as a whole; nuclear terrorism;
transnational criminal organizations; and natural hazards. The basic building block of emergency
management in the U.S. is the local community. Each step begins here. Threat assessments are
completed on the local level. Planning, mitigation, and response are all responsibilities of the local
community to support the state and Federal practice using the guidance provided by both.
One of the best guidance documents for these communities is the Comprehensive Preparedness
Guide 201 (CPG201). In this guide, communities will complete the Threat and Hazard
Identification and Risk Assessment. The THIRA has a detailed four step process in developing a
robust Risk Assessment to allow the community to develop its plans. The first step is to identify the
threats and hazards of concern to the community. Some of the challenges described by the
Department of Homeland Security may not be applicable to the community or may pose extremely
limited threat. The second step in to give the threats context which states how

Violent Video Games Research Paper
There has been quite a bit of controversy between what the real effect video games are having on
teenagers. Although everybody swings one way or another, most can agree that albeit video
games may or may not be bad, the overuse of these games, can be and is a major problem in the
world. Many believe that video games have an exponentially negative effect on teenagers. Many
believe that video games desensitize players. In a 2005 study, violent video gameexposure has been
linked to reduced P300 amplitudes in the brain, which is associated with desensitization to violence
and increases in aggressive behavior. Furthermore, these types of games often times reward
players for killing, defacing public property, and stimulating violence. Games such as Call of
Duty, and Grand Theft Auto, seem to cause players to feel happiness and joy in creating pain
and havoc. However, there is another side to this story. Others believe that video games are
contributing to an increasingly safe and more friendly atmosphere in the United States. In fact,
sales of video games had more than quadrupled in 1995 2008, while the arrest rate for juvenile
murders fell 71.9%, and the arrest rate for all juvenile violent crimes declined 49.3% in this same
period. Even more, is the thought that, playing violent video games provides a safe outlet for
aggressive and heated feelings. A study from 2007 reported that 45% of boys played video games
because it helps me get my anger out . Not only that, but another

Summary Of Black Beauty And The Georges And The Jewels
Change. Adaption. Strength. A person s life can change in a matter of seconds to years, but the
important part is how well the person reacts to the changes. In both the Black Beauty and The
Georges and the Jewels, the protagonists go through changes in their life, that affects their view. In
Black Beauty: An Autobiography Of A Horse
by Anna Sewell, Black Beauty is terribly treated and
wants to be a wild horse. In The Georges And The Jewels By Jane Smiley, Abby had given up
riding her new horse because her father had to sell the one horse she truly enjoyed. By examining
Black Beauty and The Georges And The Jewels, it is evident that both texts use first person point
of view to develop the characters.
Preliminarily, Black Beauty uses first person narration to develop the protagonist by expressing
their inside thoughts about their surroundings. In paragraph 2, it states, Those who have never
had a bit in their mouths cannot think how bad it feels, a great piece of cold hard steel as thick
as a man s finger to be pushed into one s mouth... it is very bad! Yes, very bad! This excerpt
shows Black Beauty explaining his thoughts and conditions of being tamed horse. Black Beauty
is unacquainted with the bit piece and wants to get rid of it. This demonstrates how Black
Beauty originally feels about how cruel a tamed horse is treated compared to how a wild horse
lives and those horses have no idea of their struggles. The author uses first person point of view
to show Black Beauty s thoughts that no other perspective could ve shown at this level. In
paragraph three of the same text, it also states, It certainly did feel queer, but must say I felt
rather proud to carry my master, and as he continued to ride me a little every day I soon became
accustomed to it. As quoted, the protagonist has now changed his view on being a tamed horse
and is now accustomed to the master and whatever his part is in being a tamed horse. This shows
how writing in first person view, Black Beauty s thoughts are clear and again as stated above, they
can only be expressed with such feeling through first person in contrast to any other point of view.
Black Beauty narrates how her feelings gradually change from being hateful of the conditions

Stonewall Lesbians In The Stonewall
No discussion of homosexual rights is complete without addressing the looming specter that is
Stonewall. According to Carter s (2005) account, on the night of June 28th, 1969, four
plainclothes police officers, two uniformed officers, a detective of the NYPD, and a deputy
inspector approached the doors of the Stonewall Inn and announced their arrival by shouting
Police! We re taking the place! Following this, they began arresting patrons of the Inn. The scene
that night was one of unrest; even before the riots, there was a general sense of unease and

whether the Stonewall Lesbian in fact existed, others, have claimed that the mysterious figure
was StormГ© DeLarverie (DeLarverie and Chu, 2010). Regardless, what is clear is the crowd

Explain The Structure Of The Heart
The heart is the organ that pumps blood throughout the body and to your lungs. It supplies nutrients
and oxygen to many tissues and removes the waste products and carbon dioxide. The heart has 4
chambers called the left and right atrium and the left and right ventricle. These are separated by
valves that stop the backflow of the bloodthat may occur due to the pumping motion. The other two
valves separate the entrances to the aorta and the pulmonary artery. The right side of your heart
receives de oxygenated blood from the aorta which is bringing the blood from which cells have
extracted nutrients and oxygen. It then pumps this blood to the lungs which releases the carbon
dioxide and replenishes the oxygen. This blood then comes back through

Essay on The Theme of Knowledge in Gilgamesh and Genesis
Ancient world literature and early civilization stories are mostly centered on human s relationship
with higher beings. Ancient civilizations were extremely religious, holding the belief that their
very lives were in the hands of their almighty god or goddess. This holds true for both the people
of biblical times as well as those of the epic era. However, their stories have some differences

The divine blesses the righteous and punishes the evil man to remind their limitation and worship to

In the Book of Genesis, the idea of knowledge emerges throughout punishment. This theme is most
apparent when Adam and Eve deceive God by eating from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and
Evil. When they do this, they are immediately given the ability to discern between right and
wrong. The Old Testament states, The woman saw that the tree was good for food, pleasing to
the eyes, and desirable for gaining knowledge (Genesis 3:6). Promptly Adam and Eve gain
knowledge and realize their nakedness as punishment from God. Likewise in Gilgamesh,
Enkidu, was a wild man before he was seduced by a harlot from Uruk. After his encounter with
harlot he notices his abilities have been greatly suppressed. Enkidu was grown weak, the
narrator tells us, for wisdom was in him, and the thoughts of a man were in his heart. The

want to run wild with the beasts in the hills? She tells him about strong walled Uruk and the

The Pros And Cons Of Open Carry
The open presence of guns in public life can quickly escalate everyday conflicts into deadly
altercations. It has been one cause of tragic, irreversible damage to innocent lives of citizens
through the long US history. Despite the evidence that openly carrying firearms in public spaces
endangers public safety, most states lack laws to limit open carry and some have even taken
steps to weaken regulation regarding the practice. Historically, most states either prohibited or
strongly regulated the carrying of firearms in public spaces. Over the past three decades,
however, state laws have changed dramatically. In that time, many states have significantly
weakened their laws to permit more and more people to carry guns in public places and to reduce
or eliminate local law enforcement s ability to keep potentially dangerous people from carrying
guns in public. Open carry refers to the practice of carrying a firearmin public. It has been legal in
many states since the 19th century. Proponents of open carry claim that criminals usually conceal

Local resources Tourism in India can create great pressure on local resources like energy, food,
and other raw materials that may already be in short supply. Greater extraction and transport of
these resources exacerbates the physical impacts associated with their exploitation. Because of the
seasonal character of the industry, many destinations have ten times more inhabitants in the high
season as in the low season. A high demand is placed upon these resources to meet the high
expectations tourists often have (proper heating, hot water, etc.). Land degradation Important land
resources include fertile soil, forests, wetlands and wildlife. Increased construction of tourism
facilities has increased the pressure on these resources and on scenic landscapes. Direct impact on
natural resources in the provision of tourist facilities can be caused by the use of land for
accommodation and other infrastructure provision, and the use of building materials. Forests often
suffer negative impacts of tourism in the form of deforestation caused by fuel wood collection and
land clearing. For example, one trekking tourist in Nepal can use four to five kilograms of wood a
day. PHYSICAL IMPACT OF TOURISM IN INDIA Physical impacts of tourism development

Niemann Pick Disease
What is Niemann Pick Disease?
Niemann Pick disease is a genetic condition that is divided into four main types, however this
information brochure focuses mainly on type C1 (NP C1). This condition is inherited in an
autosomal recessive pattern, meaning two copies of the abnormal gene must be present in order for
the disease to develop.
NP C1 develops as a result of mutations in the NPC1 gene, located on chromosome 18 at position
11.2. The NPC1 gene is involved in the production of proteins that are located within the membrane
of compartments within the cell. As a result of the mutation, affected individuals are not able to

An Internet Address For Example Essay
An Internet address (for example, http://sju.com/men/), usually consisting of the access
protocol (HTTP), the domain name(sju.com), and optionally the path to a file or resource
residing on the server where the domain name resides (nest). A common way to get to a Web
site is to enter the URL of its home page file in your Web browser s address line. However, any
file within that Web site can also be specified with a URL. Such a file might be any Web
(HTML) page other than the home page, an image file, or a program such as a common gateway
interface application or Java applet. The URL contains the name of the protocol to be used to
access the file resource, a domain name that identifies a specific computer on the Internet, and a
pathname, a hierarchical description that specifies the location of a file on that computer.
Importance of URLs for analysts: URLs are fundamental to the internet. And, while websites are
having their digital dominance chipped away by social media and mobile apps, URLs remain a
core component of the Language of Digital. The information generated by the cookie about your
use of our website including the IP address will be transmitted to and stored on servers. Analysts
will use this information for the purpose of evaluating your use of our website, compiling reports
on website activity and providing other services relating to website activity and internet usage.
For analysts, there are two key reasons that a solid grasp of URLs matters:

Betto Bardi Analysis
I am Donato di NiccolГІ di Betto Bardi but my friends and family gave me the nickname
Donatello. I was born in Florence, Italy in 1386. I never married or had children of my own. I am
the son of NiccolГІ di Betto Bardi, a member of the Florentine Wool Combers Guild. Since my
dad was a member, I am the son of a craftsman so I was expected to continue his line of work. I was
obligated early with well known sculptors and immediately learned the Gothic style. Before 20, I
was receiving tasks for my work. According to The Famous People, being one of the greatest of all
Italian Renaissanceartists, marble and bronze are my master in sculptures ( Donatello Biography ).
I am educated in the house of the Martelli family, where I received artistic training, and was an
apprenticeship to Lorenzo... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1408, I was back in Florence at the workshops of the cathedral and completed the life sized
marble sculpture, David. It has a Gothic style and an expressionless face. It reflects the
influences of sculptors of the time. David is probably one of my most famous works. I also
developed my own style with figures that are much more dramatic and emotional. Between 1411
and 1413, I sculpted the marble figure, St. Mark. In 1415 I completed the marble statue of a
seated St. John the Evangelist for the cathedral in Florence. Around 1425, I began a partnership
with Italian sculptor and architect Michelozzo. WE went to Rome and made several
architectural sculptor tombs, including the tomb of Antipope John XXIII and the tomb of
Cardinal Brancacci. In 1430 Cosimo de Medici assigned me to do another statue of David but
this time in bronze. Then in 1443, I was called to the city of Padua by the family of Erasmo da
Narni. In 1450, I completed a bronze statue called Gattamelata. It showed Erasmo riding a horse
with full battle dress. Finally in 1455 I returned to Florence and completed Magdalene

Swot Analysis Of Milky Lane
Milky Lane Background
Famous brands is a large company that is currently trading on the JSE, this multinational company
decided to acquire Milky lane as one of its subsidiaries on the 21st of March 2011, although the
franchise has been around since 1958. Milky Lane was previously owned by Java Brands and is
South Africa s oldest franchising brand and a market leader in the retail ice cream sector. Milky
Lane attracts a broad consumer base and is continuously changing to cater for the population s
needs. They are renowned as an ice cream distributor although of late, they have begun to offer
savoury alternatives. Milky Lane was bought in conjunction with Juicy Lucy. The finances have
been allocated toward marketing with the intention of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

пѓ The new competitor directly across from the Milky Lane at Forest Hill City Mall is Smooch, a
frozen yoghurt bar which is attracting potential customers and is bad for business.
пѓ The increasing petrol prices mean that the amount of possible customers decrease because
people do not want to travel more than 20 kilometres to buy ice cream, therefore sales decrease
which hamper productivity.
пѓ The changes in legislation, particularly referring to the Broad Based Black Economic
Empowerment Act (BBBEE) which is helping redress the faults of the apartheid government may
mean that Milky Lane has to promote a person to a management position based on colour rather
than education or experience which may significantly impact the subsidiary negatively because if
the leadership of one branch starts to deteriorate, the company image is tarnished.
пѓ Our workforce does not only consist of South African employees, (Jalloh, 2015). Hope Jalloh is
from Nigeria and works as a waitress at Milky Lane Forest Hill therefore xenophobic attacks may
prevent certain people from coming to work because they may be scared to take a taxi or walk to

Classical Music s Influence On The Beatles
Classical Music s Influence on the Beatles In this essay I am going to look at the way that
classical, in particular baroque, music has affected music of the 20th century. To do this I have
chosen three beatles songs and compared them directly to music by Bach and Beethoven. I hope
to find many correlations between the two pieces of music in each case. The first song I have
chosen is the song Blackbird. McCartney has claimed that the music was inspired by Bach s
Bouree in E minor, of which he and George Harrison had learned to play at a young age. https:/
/www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrxZhWCAuQw https://www.youtube.com
/watch?v=APNI2CC0k6A list=RDAPNI2CC0k6A index=1 Blackbird Bouree In E Minor
(Bach) Musically, the songs at first glance aren t that similar, for example the song Blackbird is
majoritively in a major key, whereas Bach s Bouree in E Minor, as named, is in a minor key.
This is a seemingly large difference but Blackbird is in G major and therefore the relative major
key of E minor. The two keys are very closely related and add to the similarities between the two
pieces. The BourrГ©e is distinguished by melody and bass notes played simultaneously on the
upper and lower strings. McCartney adapted a segment of the BourrГ©e and reharmonized it into
the relative major key of G as the opening of Blackbird, . He then carried the musical idea
throughout the song. This song also makes use of baroque like counterpoint melodies. Part of its
structure is a particular

The Myers Briggs Type ( Mbti )
ABSTRACT The Myers Briggs Type (MBTI) was taken to discover my personality type. There
were four categories that resulted in my personality type. These categories where I focus my
attention Extraversion (E) or Introversion (I), the way I take in information Sensing (S) or
Intuition (N), the way I make decisions Thinking (T) or Feeling (F) and how I deal with the outer
world Judging (J) or Perceiving (P). Based on the responses to the assessment, it reported that my
MBTI type is ESTJ, which is also described as Extraverted Thinking with Sensing Judging. The
Myers Briggs Type (MBTI) After completing the MBTI my personality type was extraversion,

I tend to talk to other people or listen to what they are saying to me. I like being around others,
marking them laugh and feel good about themselves. I tend to want to be the center of
attraction. This happens when I am in a good place within myself. I also tend to put my
problems on the back burner and help those who may be going through some things. I do not
care to be alone. I know this to be true about myself. I love being around family and friends. I get
a pleasure helping people. SENSING The second type the test indicated I belong was sensing.
The Jung test states that, there are two distinct ways of perceiving the data that we gather . My
way is sensing. Sensing defined explained by Jung is that my, preference absorbs data in a
literal, concrete fashion . (www.personality page.com) Jung goes on to say that, people use
sensing and intuition in their life but not the say way . (www.personality page.com)My results
showed that I am a sensing because I, taste food, which I do; notice a stoplight has changed,
memorize a speech and follow steps in a plan. I believe this all to be correct about my
personality. THINKING Jung noticed that people have the capability to make decisions based
thinking and feeling. My results showed that I my decisions are based on logic and reason ,
(www.personality page.com) This means that I am in thinking mode. The results also indicated that

The Fascinating Tale of Jell-o in an Article by Sarah E....
In 1992, in the 51st volume of Western Folklore, Sarah E. Newton published her article: The Jell
O Syndrome : Investigating Popular Culture/Foodways. In this piece, Newton discusses the
history and impact of Jell O, gelatin desert, in American foodways and pop culture since its
establishment in 1897 (252). Without delay, Newton acquaints her intentions, as her thesis
vows to use research to take readers on a cultural and historical journey or exotic byway as she
calls it (249), into the fascinating tale of Jell O. Through that research, she is arguing the level
or significance of Jell O in American foodways, as she believes this versatile invention has not
received the respect in the foodways department that she thinks it deserves (249). Newton starts
off by referencing the large frequency in which Jell O is used in American recipes. Newton
defends these statements by pointing out the overwhelming usage of Jell O as an ingredient for
salads and desserts in numerous American cookbooks (250). This is a questionable approach.
Although it is understandable to reference American cookbooks for the frequency of usage of an
ingredient, a few books is not a big enough sample of the thousands that exist. Also, not all
American families own cookbooks or use them on a regular basis as a reference for cooking, nor is
it guaranteed that they use any recipes in the book that incorporate Jell O. Lastly, Newton
introduces Americans emotional bond to Jell O, emphasizing the fun that

Essay on Childhood Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia is a mental illness which affects millions of people throughout the world. Scientists
have begun to understand more and more about the possible causes, predisposing factors, types,
and possible treatments for schizophrenia. (Torrey, 1995) It is very rare for schizophrenic
symptoms to appear before the age of 12 but it does occur. Recently, there has been a growing
interest in childhood schizophrenia. It is less than one sixtieth as common as the adult onset type
but the characteristics are very similar. Childhood schizophrenia also tends to be harder to treat and
to have a worse prognosis than the adult onset form. (Rapoport, 1997)
Childhood schizophrenia is seen as simply an early version of the adult disease but it ... Show more

It seems to be centered in the 6th 7th month of fetal development, a period characterized by
neuronal migration and especially rapid brain growth. (Eggers, 1991) Once the child is born,
there are many signs of the onset of schizophrenia. Major feeding disturbances occurred and
children were described as having poor sucking ability or falling asleep every time the mother
tried to nurse. (Cantor, 1988) The major sign is the mother infant relationship. The child has no
desire to cuddle with the parents or be held and create the bond that is so desperately needed.
(Arieti, 1974) The sleep cycle is often the first symptom to pre schizophrenia. Infants were
reported to В‘sleep almost constantly during the first few months, yet by the age of six months,
they refuse to sleep at all . (Cantor, 1988) Severe nightmares are very common in the first two
years of life, where the child is unable to be awoken, or the child wakes spontaneously, vomits,
and falls back asleep. (Cantor, В‘88) By the time the child is three or four, serious sleep
disorders begin to develop. The child just can t fall asleep, and it seems like they just can t relax .
(Cantor, В‘88) These children are more likely to sleep walk, and have no fear in doing anything
while in this state. Both sleep behavior and understanding of danger improve as the child matures;
in fact, schizophrenic children become cautious and fearful as the awareness of their alien world

Jack Warner Scandal Essay
The second individual that was a major player of this scandal was Jack Warner, the former VP of
CONCACAF. Warner was charged for the same crimes as Blazer that included wire fraud,
racketeering, and money laundering. However, his scheming was on a much larger scale. Not only
was he involved with Blazer during their time at CONCACAF, Warner was also involved in his
own bribery dealings, black market transactions, fraudmismanagement, and misuse of funds.
Warner s charges extend all the back into the 1980 s, however his more impactful charges came
during the 2000 s. He was involved on two different occasions of selling World Cup tickets
valued at a premium within the Black Market, in which he made $350,000 during the 2002 and
over a $1 million in 2006. During the 2006, Ernst and Young, the audit firm for FIFA, found out
about Warner s actions and he was fined a maximum amount of $1, however only a fourth of that
fine was ever paid. Jack Warner was also implicated on having collusion within several World Cups
including two awarded to South Africa, the 2018 World cup, and 2022 World Cup. Along with
Warner, FIFA was

Furthermore, how you deal with your diagnosis of a chronic illness will completely shape the rest

  • 3. Similarities Between Populist And Progressive Movements Populist and Progressive Reform in American History Throughout American history, reform was common among people of a particular, race, gender, or class used to accomplish change. The emergence of the populist and progressive movements were a response to the changing climate in American society due to rapid industrialization, an ethnically diverse personality of a young nation, and birth of American imperialism. Disgruntled American farmers that wished to advance their economic position initiated the Populist movement. Progressives pushed to improve urban labor conditions, dismantle trusts and monopolies, conserve of environment, and to install an active government. Discontented farmers, despite their passion, lacked the numbers to make a national impact. They accomplished many of their goals, though most were not recognized as populist achievements. Ultimately, class played a primary role in the apparent failure of the populists in comparison to the success of the progressives. Despite the brevity of its existence, the Populist movement exercised a profound influence on subsequent U.S. political life. Almost all the Populist demands, which at one time were widely viewed as radical and contradictory to America s free enterprise system, were eventually enacted into law. The Progressive Movement was an outgrowth of previous reform eras, including the ideas first presented by the Populists. While many Progressives were originally anti Populists, they eventually came to believe that the large corporations and other monopolies that they were trying to reform were similar to the farmer s revolts against the railroads and commercial practices and regulations of the government. As a continuation of populist ideology, the progressive movement accomplished a great feat with the passing of the Interstate Commerce Act and the Sherman Antitrust Act. The Interstate Commerce Act of 1887 created the Interstate Commerce Commission, the first true federal regulatory agency, to control the issues of railroad abuse and discrimination. • 6. Summary Of Mother Who Gave Me Life By Gwen Harwood The poem Mother Who Gave Me Life by Gwen Harwood, is about the speaker s mother and her life that is near death. This focused universal thematic concern of motherhood is conveyed through a reflective tone, as the speaker is seen to acutely contemplate her mother s life and the wisdom she has been taught. Gwen Harwood uses a eulogy structure to undertow the reader s focus to the praise the speaker has for her mother. As well as creatively embedding the use of enjambment, repetition and metaphors, Harwood attempts to convey the emotion of the speaker reconciling her final moments with her mother. The reflective tone of the poem plays an important part in substantiating the eulogy structure represented through the speaker. The importance of the title and implementations of enjambment as well as a past tense structure help communicate the reflective tone of the poem. What define a reflective tone is how it illustrates the emotions and thoughts of the speaker. The use of enjambment offers an insight to the reader of the reflective, as thoughts can often be free flowing, just as enjambment is deemed to be. • 7. Critical Criticism Of Hester Prynne Hester Prynne. Not the Heroine. In the critical essay On the Scarlet Letter , by D.H Lawrence, Lawrence analyzes the character Hester Prynne from the novel The Scarlet Letter , and how her life is portrayed. According to Lawrence, Hester is not worthy of the praise she is given by Nathaniel Hawthorne. D.H. Lawrence uses the techniques of repetition, compact syntax and biblical allusions to effectively convey his negative attitudes towards Hester Prynne. Lawrence uses the repetition of certain words to drill them into the reader s mind. The continuous use of the phrase A. Adulteress! throughout the essay reinforces Hester s sin, and reminds the reader that she is a sinner, rather than someone worthy of praise (Lawrence). This repetition resembles the physical scarlet letter, in the sense that D.H. Lawrence is shaming Hester over and over again, similar to how the Puritans shamed Hester throughout her life. Moreover, the name of the object that was pinned to Hester s breast, The Scarlet Letter is also repeated throughout Lawrence s essay (Lawrence). By using this phrase, Hester is reduced to her sin, stripping away all of her good deeds, because the emphasis is placed on her sinful actions rather than her personal qualities and life after the sin, which does not give the reader a chance to focus on any positive qualities Hester possesses. In addition, the scarlet letter holds the negative connotations of sin, punishment and adultery. By repeating Scarlet Letter , the reader s mind is filled with these negative connotations, thus reiterating Lawrence s opinion that Hester is the source of evil and her actions should not have been glorified. Lawrence s repetition of these phrases reinforces Hester s sin and shameful actions, which effectively conveys his dismissive feelings towards Hester. The use of compact syntax highlights Lawrence s disapproval of Hester Prynne by abruptly and continuously shooting her down. The concise sentence Adulteress. Alpha. Abel, Adam. A. America shoots at Hester with negative words (Lawrence). This rapid fire structure effectively degrades Hester as each word delivers an individual blow to her character and degrades her, by restating her sin, the letter A which ... • 8. A Brief Look at Global Warming So what actually is global warming? Obviously the name explains it; the globe becoming warmer. But what does it mean to become warmer ? The sun isn t getting hotter; the world isn t traveling closer to the sun. Global warming is when rapid moving particles collide more and more with other rapid moving particles and are trapped by the atmosphere s thick layer of gasmolecules. As more heat is trapped, particles that are in earth s atmosphere collide with each other. As more collisions are present, the average kinetic energy which is the average speed at which the particles collide with one another increases therefore the temperature increases which affects many aspects of life. A predominant factor as to why global warming happens is more gas particles exposed in the air because of an increase in gases produced by industries. Gases such as CO2 and SO2 are constantly harming our environment by regularly adding more harmful gasses into our atmosphere. Due to forest fires, industries, factories, and new found technology such as the car, many harmful gas molecules are surrounding us. These harmful gas molecules collide with our healthy atmospheric particles which make the amount of gas particles increase dreadfully. Since more collisions between these different particles are occurring, the average kinetic energy is raised therefore the temperature increases as well. As more particles are added into the atmosphere, it becomes denser and gasses are getting trapped into our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Reflection Paper On Perseverance Research Reflection Before I began researching I was really passionate about the ability to persevere and I knew I wanted to talk about perseverance and explain why it was such an essential characteristic to have. I especially wanted to find examples of many others that had to persevere to get through their own tough times. But when I originally started researching my topic I did not exactly have anything in mind about what I was exactly looking for. This was mainly due to that I had the ideas in my head but did not know how to put those in a way that I could deliver it for the whole class to understand. So as I began researching I focused on just using perseverance in school, like not giving up after not getting a concept the first time. But after looking through a few articles I found many examples of when perseverance was used in other ways, such as building things for society or ways in which one can be successful. This then broadened my perspective on perseverance and showed me the benefits of it. The Grit: the Power of Passion and Perseverance. Ted Talk video was extremely helpful for my research since it gave me numerous amounts of examples of how the main thing that distinguishes kids for who they are is perseverance. I found out that one s intelligence quality is not determined by their test scores, but rather it is determined by how they improve on making those test scores the best they can be. Tomorrow is like a painted flower, it never wilts. These sentences are ridiculous, right? The way you are feeling right now after listening to them is the exact same way the council felt about Nestorius teachings. The council went even farther than nonsensicality and called him a heretic. But, more on that later. Nestorius was born in Syria in 386 AD, and was a priest and monk in the monastery of Euprepius. Theodore of Mopsuetia taught him in clerical training in Antioch. His sermons were so phenomenal that Emperor Theodosius II inaugurated him as Patriarch of Constantinople in 428 AD. Shortly after, Nestorius became involved in two theological factions debating in their Christology. One side said the Jesus was born as a man, and they called Mary Theotokos, meaning God bearer. The other side argued that this title of Mary was incorrect because God could not be born on account of his eternal nature. Nestorius tried to find a middle ground. Some studies have shown results that the benefits of using marijuana for medicinal reasons far outweigh the negative health matters that may be associated with its use, and therefore should be an accepted method of treatment for some patients who are suffering with illnesses such as multiple sclerosis, cancer, AIDS, and eating disorders (Okie, 2005). Still, other studies have proven that there is not enough scientific evidence on the drug, there for it should not be legalized for the use of medication (Hutchings, 2002). Parts of the medical field that these components benefit would include various neurological conditions, such as spasticity, pain or sleeping disorders. It is currently difficult to conclude whether these benefits overpower the risks that a person with a neurological disorder would be taking. However Canadian surveys have showed that in two neurological disorder cases, multiple sclerosis and epilepsy, cannabis has proven to be beneficial to symptom relief. People with these disorders using cannabis have gotten relief from both their primary symptoms and other symptoms associated with their disorders. In people with epilepsy, the severity and frequency of their seizures was reduced. In people with multiple sclerosis were found to have reduced pain and spasticity, as well as being relived from psychological symptoms caused by the disorder. Without the use of cannabis in some users, they would have a much more difficult time dealing with the symptoms of their disorders (Wingerchuk, 2004). Mr. McKenzie was immediately uncomfortable with the policy of the hotel. In his line of business, he knew that a successful company would not follow this procedure, when booking a customer s reservation. Our second question was Did the Regal Carnation always misrepresent itself on the website and was this intentional. Looking at the case, it states that the tourism industry was in its maturity state by 2007. During this time hotels were running elaborate campaigns to make their hotels and business stand out. But with the declining pool of tourists, there was less profit to be made and as a result less money to reinvest into the hotel. It is no surprise then; that given time and diminished incentive to reinvest, that the website told a different story than reality. If the McKenzie s would have researched a little more, followed up on their gut intuitions about the Regal Carnation, and considered how it fits in with Guam s overall economy and history perhaps they would have realized the fallacy of deciding upon value based solely on a website. It is commonly believed that each product in business goes through what is called a product life cycle. It can typically be divided into four distinctive categories. Throughout the play we only see Viola in her disguise as Cesario . From Act 1, Scene 2, we see her planning on using the disguise of a man to serve Orsino. The interactions between her and the other characters show dramatic ironyas they do not realise who Cesario actually is, however the audience does. Orsino, at the start of Act 2, scene 4 says Now good morrow, friends; Now, good Cesario. This is when Portia and Nerissa disguise themselves as men, specifically a lawyer and a clerk, as a way to save Antonio. This links into the way Viola uses an inner disguise to shield her real personality, she first goes into her disguise at the docks in Act 1, scene 2 when she says to the Captain Conceal me what I am, and be my aid. For such disguise as haply shall become the form of my intent. This shows how she is covering up what I am [she is] a woman, by the personality and physical disguise of a man. From this point onwards there is comedy due to the fact that she is disguised as a man and is fooling every other character, with the audience knowing all about this. This also shows that Shakespeare respects the audience enough to not have them fooled by Viola s disguise ;and he shows more sexual equality, as Viola plays a major part in the story and without her the play would have a lot less comedy. The structure of the play relies mostly on her actions, for example there would have been no love triangle without her and all the other characters would not have been deceived by her. Therefore, there would be no dramatic irony to create amusement. So, the dramatic irony of Viola s disguise makes characters seem ignorant and ridiculous creating comedy, but also through the audience s knowledge of Viola s true identity. The most common thread of procrastination is fear; fear of failure, fear of unpleasant or painful experiences, and the fear of missing out. Out of the fear of failing and looking bad, they would often spend vast amounts of time on a project without making any real progress because at a subconscious level they don t want to finish a finished project will make them vulnerable for criticism and consequently failure (Klassen et al. 918) If an procrastinator believes that a task is going to be an undesirable experience then they will feel constrained not to do it. As You Like It: The Importance of the Secondary Characters As You Like It, by William Shakespeare, is a radiant blend of fantasy, romance, wit and humor. In this delightful romp, Rosalind stands out as the most robust, multidimensional and lovable character, so much so that she tends to overshadow the other characters in an audience s memory, making them seem, by comparison, just stock dramatic types . Yet, As You Like It is not a stock romance that just happens to have Shakespeare s greatest female role. Though the range of her acting sub roles alone would make the other characters look pale, the depth of each of her many parts outshines many. As a woman in love she demonstrates a range of emotion and action that far exceeds that of Celia, Phoebe or Audrey. It is her romance with Orlando that is the focus of the play, and the one held up as the ideal, and therefore the one that gets most of Shakespeare s attention as a playwright. Rosalind s gushing first meeting with Orlando, a stark contrast to her masterly handling of Le Beau just before, shows a more vulnerable Rosalind. Rosalind s playful fantasizing about Orlando after the wrestling match and after verses start appearing on trees shows a depth of infatuation not explored with the other characters, except Phoebe, though Phoebe is shown up to have a more stock kind of silly infatuation rather than Rosalind s more courtly lovesickness. Rosalind s momentary drops of her guise as Ganymede playing Rosalind, such as when she faints at seeing the bloody handkerchief, show that Rosalind is human, and these involuntary glimpses of the true lover forced out by sheer emotion place Rosalind on a higher level of love than the more ordinary, stereotypical posturing of Phoebe. As wit and philosopher Rosalind plays a dominant role, though here Celia, Touchstone and Jaques are less flat in comparison to Rosalind. It also determined six strategic challenges facing the nation: terrorist threat; growing cyber threats; biological concerns as a whole; nuclear terrorism; transnational criminal organizations; and natural hazards. The basic building block of emergency management in the U.S. is the local community. Each step begins here. Threat assessments are completed on the local level. • 31. Summary Of Black Beauty And The Georges And The Jewels Change. Adaption. Strength. A person s life can change in a matter of seconds to years, but the important part is how well the person reacts to the changes. In both the Black Beauty and The Georges and the Jewels, the protagonists go through changes in their life, that affects their view. In Black Beauty: An Autobiography Of A Horse by Anna Sewell, Black Beauty is terribly treated and wants to be a wild horse. In The Georges And The Jewels By Jane Smiley, Abby had given up riding her new horse because her father had to sell the one horse she truly enjoyed. By examining Black Beauty and The Georges And The Jewels, it is evident that both texts use first person point of view to develop the characters. Preliminarily, Black Beauty uses first person narration to develop the protagonist by expressing their inside thoughts about their surroundings. In paragraph 2, it states, Those who have never had a bit in their mouths cannot think how bad it feels, a great piece of cold hard steel as thick as a man s finger to be pushed into one s mouth... it is very bad! Yes, very bad! This excerpt shows Black Beauty explaining his thoughts and conditions of being tamed horse. Black Beauty is unacquainted with the bit piece and wants to get rid of it. This demonstrates how Black Beauty originally feels about how cruel a tamed horse is treated compared to how a wild horse lives and those horses have no idea of their struggles. The author uses first person point of view to show Black Beauty s thoughts that no other perspective could ve shown at this level. In paragraph three of the same text, it also states, It certainly did feel queer, but must say I felt rather proud to carry my master, and as he continued to ride me a little every day I soon became accustomed to it. As quoted, the protagonist has now changed his view on being a tamed horse and is now accustomed to the master and whatever his part is in being a tamed horse. This shows how writing in first person view, Black Beauty s thoughts are clear and again as stated above, they can only be expressed with such feeling through first person in contrast to any other point of view. • 40. An Internet Address For Example Essay An Internet address (for example, http://sju.com/men/), usually consisting of the access protocol (HTTP), the domain name(sju.com), and optionally the path to a file or resource residing on the server where the domain name resides (nest). A common way to get to a Web site is to enter the URL of its home page file in your Web browser s address line. However, any file within that Web site can also be specified with a URL. Such a file might be any Web (HTML) page other than the home page, an image file, or a program such as a common gateway interface application or Java applet. The URL contains the name of the protocol to be used to access the file resource, a domain name that identifies a specific computer on the Internet, and a pathname, a hierarchical description that specifies the location of a file on that computer. Importance of URLs for analysts: URLs are fundamental to the internet. And, while websites are having their digital dominance chipped away by social media and mobile apps, URLs remain a core component of the Language of Digital. The information generated by the cookie about your use of our website including the IP address will be transmitted to and stored on servers. Analysts will use this information for the purpose of evaluating your use of our website, compiling reports on website activity and providing other services relating to website activity and internet usage. For analysts, there are two key reasons that a solid grasp of URLs matters: Web ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I never married or had children of my own. I am the son of NiccolГІ di Betto Bardi, a member of the Florentine Wool Combers Guild. Since my dad was a member, I am the son of a craftsman so I was expected to continue his line of work. I was obligated early with well known sculptors and immediately learned the Gothic style. Before 20, I was receiving tasks for my work. According to The Famous People, being one of the greatest of all Italian Renaissanceartists, marble and bronze are my master in sculptures ( Donatello Biography ). In 1408, I was back in Florence at the workshops of the cathedral and completed the life sized marble sculpture, David. It has a Gothic style and an expressionless face. It reflects the influences of sculptors of the time. David is probably one of my most famous works. I also developed my own style with figures that are much more dramatic and emotional. Between 1411 and 1413, I sculpted the marble figure, St. Mark. In 1415 I completed the marble statue of a seated St. John the Evangelist for the cathedral in Florence. Around 1425, I began a partnership with Italian sculptor and architect Michelozzo. WE went to Rome and made several architectural sculptor tombs, including the tomb of Antipope John XXIII and the tomb of Cardinal Brancacci. In 1430 Cosimo de Medici assigned me to do another statue of David but this time in bronze. Then in 1443, I was called to the city of Padua by the family of Erasmo da Narni. In 1450, I completed a bronze statue called Gattamelata. It showed Erasmo riding a horse with full battle dress. Finally in 1455 I returned to Florence and completed Magdalene ... • 43. Classical Music s Influence On The Beatles Classical Music s Influence on the Beatles In this essay I am going to look at the way that classical, in particular baroque, music has affected music of the 20th century. To do this I have chosen three beatles songs and compared them directly to music by Bach and Beethoven. I hope to find many correlations between the two pieces of music in each case. The first song I have chosen is the song Blackbird. McCartney has claimed that the music was inspired by Bach s Bouree in E minor, of which he and George Harrison had learned to play at a young age. https:/ /www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrxZhWCAuQw https://www.youtube.com /watch?v=APNI2CC0k6A list=RDAPNI2CC0k6A index=1 Blackbird Bouree In E Minor (Bach) Musically, the songs at first glance aren t that similar, for example the song Blackbird is majoritively in a major key, whereas Bach s Bouree in E Minor, as named, is in a minor key. This is a seemingly large difference but Blackbird is in G major and therefore the relative major key of E minor. The two keys are very closely related and add to the similarities between the two pieces. The BourrГ©e is distinguished by melody and bass notes played simultaneously on the upper and lower strings. McCartney adapted a segment of the BourrГ©e and reharmonized it into the relative major key of G as the opening of Blackbird, . He then carried the musical idea throughout the song. This song also makes use of baroque like counterpoint melodies. Part of its structure is a particular ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. The Fascinating Tale of Jell-o in an Article by Sarah E.... In 1992, in the 51st volume of Western Folklore, Sarah E. Newton published her article: The Jell O Syndrome : Investigating Popular Culture/Foodways. In this piece, Newton discusses the history and impact of Jell O, gelatin desert, in American foodways and pop culture since its establishment in 1897 (252). Without delay, Newton acquaints her intentions, as her thesis vows to use research to take readers on a cultural and historical journey or exotic byway as she calls it (249), into the fascinating tale of Jell O. Through that research, she is arguing the level or significance of Jell O in American foodways, as she believes this versatile invention has not received the respect in the foodways department that she thinks it deserves (249). Newton starts off by referencing the large frequency in which Jell O is used in American recipes. Newton defends these statements by pointing out the overwhelming usage of Jell O as an ingredient for salads and desserts in numerous American cookbooks (250). This is a questionable approach. Although it is understandable to reference American cookbooks for the frequency of usage of an ingredient, a few books is not a big enough sample of the thousands that exist. Also, not all American families own cookbooks or use them on a regular basis as a reference for cooking, nor is it guaranteed that they use any recipes in the book that incorporate Jell O. Lastly, Newton introduces Americans emotional bond to Jell O, emphasizing the fun that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Major feeding disturbances occurred and children were described as having poor sucking ability or falling asleep every time the mother tried to nurse. (Cantor, 1988) The major sign is the mother infant relationship. The child has no desire to cuddle with the parents or be held and create the bond that is so desperately needed. (Arieti, 1974) The sleep cycle is often the first symptom to pre schizophrenia. Infants were reported to В‘sleep almost constantly during the first few months, yet by the age of six months, they refuse to sleep at all . (Cantor, 1988) Severe nightmares are very common in the first two years of life, where the child is unable to be awoken, or the child wakes spontaneously, vomits, and falls back asleep. (Cantor, В‘88) By the time the child is three or four, serious sleep disorders begin to develop. The child just can t fall asleep, and it seems like they just can t relax . (Cantor, В‘88) These children are more likely to sleep walk, and have no fear in doing anything while in this state.
