Comparing Katushika Hokusai And Emil Nolde s The Great Wave
Both Katushika Hokusai and Emil Nolde were excellent artists; however their techniques, subject
matter, and final appearance are drastically different. In regards to technique Hokusai used the
woodblock printing method, although Emil Nolde used a similar method for his rendition of Prophet ,
it was not cleanly portrayed like The Great Wave . Pertaining to subject matter, Hokusai s The Great
Wave revolves around the seascape of japan and expresses the power of the ocean. Nolde on the other
hand had a religious feel to his piece the Prophet with a great sense of despair. The outcome of their
respective techniques was vastly different. Katushika Hokusai used the woodblock print method to

Essay On Rhinoceros
Title: The genetic diversity of black rhinoceros (Diceros bircornis) populations in Africa. Introduction.
Despite its reputation as a powerful and invincible beast, the rhinoceros has suffered precipitous Black
rhinoceros is powerful land mammal but despite its strength and take no nonsenses attitude has
declined in number and is threatened with extinction. There are approximately 11,0000 individuals of
all five species surviving in small scattered populations throughout Africa and other Asians countries.
The black rhino has suffered the most unseen decline in numbers and disappearing faster than any
other large mammal. Black rhino were scattered across central, eastern, and southern Africa. In the
early years of 1970s their numbers had declined to 65,000 and over the past 18 years ... Show more

The NGO s has helped in the donations of money to buy needed advance technological equipment s

selling of black rhino horns and educating the public about the importance of conserving the species
for next generations. Black rhino numbers are slowly recovering and currently there are approximately
between 5,042 and 5,455 animals (according to figures published by IUCN in 2016). Genetic variation
of a population says more about the species and how a particular population of a species will survive
in a long run. Knowing the genetic variation of a species will able one to predict some of the traits in
the population for future offspring s, it can also help one to know if whether the population is evolving
or not by looking at the alleles of a population. The population which is evolving should show
changes in alleles. The importance of genetic variation is that one can know if the population

George Rr Martin Lord Of The Flies Quote Analysis
George R.R. Martin, an American author, said [t]here is a savage beast in every man, and when you
hand that man a sword or spear and send him forth to war, the beast stirs. Martin notes that humans
possess a savage nature that may or may not completely alter their personality. Some individuals have
the strength to withstand their savage temptations and obey their morals. Although others may be
consumed by their innate human nature, causing them to descend rapidly into savagery in order to
achieve their goals. In William Golding s Lord of the Flies, fire, the conch and the island represents
how the innate darkness of humans can cause people to go from civilization to savagery. First off, they
use the fire as a rescue method but it ends up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The conch symbolizes civilization and order throughout the boys as if they were in school, having the
conch call meetings and only allowing the boy holding the conch to speak. As the story progresses,
Jack and his tribe no longer respect the rules and power of the conch. After Piggy attempts to use the
conch as enforcement to talk and call a meeting, Jack quickly says, the conch doesn t count at this end
of the island (Golding 150). The boys now dismiss meetings and talk out of turn growing further apart
from civilization they have in their earlier lives and are turning into savages disobeying rules. While
Piggy is trying to get his glasses back from Jack, he is hit by a rock that kills him along with
destroying the conch. All of the boys were gathered around and are witnesses of Piggy s death, [t]he
rock struck Piggy a glancing blow from chin to knee; the conch exploded into a thousand white
fragments and ceased to exist. (Golding 181). Now the boys have turned to full savagery destroying

Key Features Of Image Enhancement
A. Image enhancement Image enhancement is the process of adjusting digital images so that the
results are more suitable for display or further image analysis. For example, you can remove noise,
sharpen, or brighten an image, making it easier to identify key features. Image enhancement mainly
includes some process: A.1 Convert a Colored Image into Gray Image Every digital image mainly
comprises of three components or it is made up of three colors that is RGB (Red Green and Blue) and
each image is represented in a 3 dimensional which is very difficult to analysis and process. Therefore
to overcome some difficulty initially each image is first converted into a gray image which is made up
of white and black components of varying intensity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So on, it moves until the end of a column and calculate the total sum of differences between adjacent
pixels. At the end, an array containing the column wise sum is created. The same process is carried out
to find the vertical array. In this case, rows are processed instead of columns. A.4 Filtering out
Unwanted Regions in an Image Once the arrays are passed through a low pass digital filter, a filter is
applied so that to remove undesirable areas from an image which includes the horizontal and vertical
components of array with low values. Generally low value indicates the plain areas with characters it
is due to the fact that intensity of each neighboring pixel of plain areas contains a similar intensity or
pixel values such that during horizontal and vertical processing the difference between them is
negligible but in case of edges and specially numeric characters the difference between adjacent pixel
is high due to variation of intensity, which results into a high array value for such part of an image.
Therefore, the required area of region of interest with probable number has a high values while areas
with small value are undesirable and such regions are filtered out by applying a certain threshold. In
this algorithm, the threshold is equal to the average value of an array. Both row and column vectors
are passed through a filter with this threshold, so that the final output

Civilism And Civilization In William Golding s Lord Of The...
Every day we hear about violence in the news, about terrorists, shooters, and robbers that we do not
associate with ourselves. However, hidden within everyone is that innate evil as is shown through
Golding s story. The novel, Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, is set on an uninhabited island
where a group of young British boys find themselves stranded without any adults. Overcoming their
joy, the boys develop a society of sorts, finding ways to survive and get rescued. However, the
civilization divides. Some of the boys go astray, their primitive instincts emerging through their
actions as they become more violent. The boys lose their identities as cultured humans. They revert to
the nature of pre civilization beings with the aid of the masks they don in order to hunt as well as to
identify savages. Golding develops the characters, specifically Ralph and Jack, showing the loss of
their innocence and steady maturing. However, overly exposed to the wild, Jack and the hunters id, or
their instincts unbounded by society or morals, materializes. The id is the impulsive section of the
mind that contain the inner desires and are restricted by the ego and superego which are the
consciousness. The continuous battle between savagery, represented by the Lord of the Flies, and
civilization, represented by the conch and Piggy, is presented throughout the story as the two sides of
society battle. In Golding s Lord of the Flies, it is depicted through the actions of the boys that when
separated from civilization, one s inevitably evil nature emerges, their true attributes exposed as their
ties to society dissolve.
With the assistance of the masks and the deindividuation that occurs when acting as a group, the boys
on the island lose their sense of identity. Jack and his hunters made clay masks in order to hunt,
claiming the pigs they preyed upon did not smell them but saw them. As he set the mask upon himself,
[Jack] began to dance and his laughter became a bloodthirsty snarling (Golding, 64) The mask was
what Jack hid [behind], liberated from shame and self consciousness, (64) As Jack puts his mask on
for the first time, it foreshadows the future violence that will come. He snarls as if he was an animal,

Analyzing Resources and Capabilities
Analysts have tended to define assets too narrowly, identifying only those that can be measured, such
as plant and equipment. Yet the intangible assets, such as a particular technology, accumulated
consumer information, brand name, reputation, and corporate culture, are invaluable to the firm s
competitive power. In fact, these invisible assets are often the only real source of competitive edge
that can be sustained over time.

Let us consider each of these factors.
Basing Strategy on Resources and Capabilities
During the 1990s, ideas concerning the role of resources and capabilities as the principal basis for firm
strategy and the primary source of profitability coalesced into what has become known as the resource
based view of the firm.1 To understand why the resource based view has had a major impact on
strategy thinking, let us go back to the starting point for strategy formulation: typically some statement
of the firm s identity and purpose (often expressed in a mission statement). Conventionally, firms have
answered the question what is our business? in terms of the market they serve: who are our customers?
and which of their needs are we seeking to serve? However, in a world where customer preferences
are volatile and the identity of customers and the technologies for serving them are changing, a market
focused strategy may not provide the stability and constancy of direction needed to guide strategy over
the long term.2 When the external environment is in a

Major Cardiac Circuits
The two major cardiovascular circuits in the human body is the pulmonary circuit and the systemic
circuit. Both of these circuits work together in order to make the body function properly. The major
difference between these two circuits is where the blood travels and what areas of the body the blood
reaches. The pulmonary circuit carries blood to only the lungs which focuses more on gas exchange.
The systemic circuit carries blood to the tissues in the entire body which focuses more on supplying
the tissues with oxygen and nutrients. Another interesting fact that separates these two circuits is the
blood itself and the process that which it flows. At the beginning of the pulmonary circuit, the blood is
deoxygenated. The oxygen poor blood then

Expansionary Monetary Policy Essays
Expansionary Monetary Policy Expansionary fiscal policy, such as the Chancellor of the Exchequer
deciding to reduce the standard rate of income tax leads to higher aggregate demand and an increase in
equilibrium income and output. In this essay I will examine the factors that are important in

(Chancellor of the Exchequer), and I will comment on any suggestions I may have for Gordon Brown
in the preparation of his next budget with a brief description on the assumptions that my advice is

An increase in aggregate demand leads to an increase in the demand for labour shown as a shift from
DL to DL1 which leads to increase in employment as a result of the wage rate increasing from 1 to 2.
However, due to the natural rate of unemployment the supply of labour shown as SL, shifts to the right
to SL1 where the wage rate is represented as 3 and employment returns to the natural rate.
IS LM Model
This example of short run and long run aggregate supply and demand brings us straight into IS LM
Model. The IS LM Model shows the combinations of both income and interest rates and shows how
equilibrium is reached in both the goods and money markets. This model involves two
schedules/curves, the IS curve and LM curve. The IS schedule shows the different combinations of
income and interest rates at which the goods market is in equilibrium and the LM schedule displays
the combinations of interest rates and income compatible with equilibrium in the money market. IS
LM schedule in equilibrium or the goods and money markets in equilibrium. The money market is in
equilibrium at all points on the IS curve. The money market is in equilibrium at all points on the LM
curve so only at point A are both markets in equilibrium.
With the exception of a fall in interest rates, any factor that shifts the aggregate demand curve
upwards, such as a decrease in income taxes will also shift the IS curve

Detroit s Real Estate Market
The racial undertones of Detroit have been extremely problematic to Detroit s real estate market for
well over 50 years. These social disruptions continue to have an effect on the current residents of
Detroit. During the middle of the nineteenth century, the Federal Housing Administration (FHA)
introduced real estate tactics such as redlining, which is the practice of flagging minority dense
neighborhoods for the purposes of denying approval of mortgages or inflating the price of the homes.
Redlining had a profound social and economic effect on all residents of Detroit. The white majority
began abandoning and selling their homes in fear that the value of the home would plummet, leading
to a great financial loss when minorities moved in the area. This idea is known as white flight, and is
the primary reason that Detroit has one of the highest African American populations in the country.
However, through revitalization and gentrification of the Midtown/Downtown area, Detroit is slowly
becoming more diverse. Throughout history, racial politics of the mid to late twentieth century
affected Detroit s real estate market by excluding minorities from the real estate market. Although
adding stadiums, high end retail, small shops, and restaurants is economically valuable to the city of
Detroit, this is conflicting and potentially problematic for the original residents of the area because the
prices of these new establishments are often much higher than the residents can afford.

Rotary Youth Leadership Analysis
The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards has a special place in my heart because I feel that it has truly
changed my life. When I arrived at RYLA for the first time I had no idea what to expect and as I
stepped out of my school s van I was overwhelmed by the amount of excitement in the air but by the
end of the day I was already hooked. After my camper year I knew I had to try to come back as a CIT
and then again as a Chief. Now that I have been able to experience RYLA from all three angles it is
safe to say that it can truly change a young persons life. The meaning of leadership can vary
depending on the person but to me leadership is the way a person, or group, leads a group of people in
a task. Everyone has their own form of leadership but I personally prefer to lead by example as well as
consult with the group before I make a decision. I feel that with this form of leadership I will never be
asking someone to do something that I wouldn t do myself, and it allows for members to become
involved in the decision making. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Life Process Of A Cell
Cell Biology
Introduction
The report will look at and discuss the life process of a cell, the functions of the cell and the cells
structure. A cell is the smallest unit of an organism and is the building block of all living things.
Key life processes of a cell
All living things including cells have some life processes in common. There are seven processes that
they need to preform to be classed alive. These are:
1) Movement all living things have movement including plants
2) Respiration the process of getting energy from food
3) Sensitivity this allows the living thing to detect changes in the surroundings
4) Growth all living things grow
5) Reproduction to reproduce and make more living things of the same type
6) Excretion getting rid of waste product
7) Nutrition taking in and using food
Viruses are not known as living like cells as living things require nutrition and viruses do not. A virus
is not live; it is unable to absorb nutrients, produce or excrete waste; so viruses attach themselves to
living organism known as a host to survive and gain the nutrition they need. They also need the host to
be able to move and reproduce as they unable to do this alone. Viruses have to inject its viral DNA
into the host cell it has invaded in order to get the host to reproduce for it.
Understanding living cells and distinguishing them from viruses
There are two primary types of cells prokaryotes and eukaryotes. The key difference between the two
is that the eukaryotic cells contain

A Program Of Management And Leadership Development Essay
If an organization has a track record of effective responsiveness to the environment, and if it has been
able to successfully change the way it operates when needed, TQM will be easier to implement. If an
organization has been historically reactive and has no skill at improving its operating systems, there
will be both employee skepticism and a lack of skilled change agents. If this condition prevails, a
comprehensive program of management and leadership development may be instituted. A
management audit is a good assessment tool to identify current levels of organizational functioning
and areas in need of change. An organization should be basically healthy before beginning TQM. If it
has significant problems such as a very unstable funding base, weak administrative systems, lack of
managerial skill, or poor employee morale, TQM would not be appropriate.5
However, a certain level of stress is probably desirable to initiate TQM. People need to feel a need for
a change. Kanter (1983) addresses this phenomenon be describing building blocks which are present
in effective organizational change. These forces include departures from tradition, a crisis or
galvanizing event, strategic decisions, individual prime movers, and action vehicles. Departures from
tradition are activities, usually at lower levels of the organization, which occur when entrepreneurs
move outside the normal ways of operating to solve a problem. A crisis, if it is not too disabling, can
also help create a

Summary Of The Conversion Of Saint Paul
The Conversion of Saint Paul The conversion of Saint Paul is a painting by Benvenuto Tisi, called il
Garofalo; oil on panel, painted in 1525. The painting unframed is 31 inches tall and 42 inches wide.
The frame of the painting is rectangle in shape and does not appear to have been created from one
solid piece of material. The outer end of the frame has grooves and the inner part seems as if it is made
from many tiny pieces held together or fitted together like a puzzle. The frame is a shiny, golden,
brassy color, which balances the colors of the paining. This painting brings to life one of the most
specular phenomenon that occurs after the death of Christ and during the persecution of the new
Christians or new believers in the church. Saul was on his way to Damascus to capture Christians
when he encounters Christ. This one miraculous visitation from Christ transformed Saul to not only
change his way of thinking about Christ, but this awakening encounter and Saul s subsequent healing,
immediately convinced Saul to stopped persecuting the believer, converted to Christianity, and change
his name from Saul to Paul. In this depiction, you find Saul stretched on the ground at the onset of his
miraculous transformation. It has been stated that the actual painting was in poor condition when it
arrived at the Yale University Art Galleria studio. It was covered in yellow varnish and showed signs
of flaking and cracking. Not only was the painting in poor condition when it

members of a native population who demonstrate a double articulation of culture to gain agency.
Hybrids are ethnic members of native population born from native population who grow up knowing
both cultures intimately. In Indian Jones and the Temple of Doom, Short Round or Shorty, Indy s
sidekick whom he found living on the streets after his parents were killed when the Japanese bombed
Shanghai, would be an example of a mimic by the way in which he mimics and idolizes Dr. Jones;
trying to exhibit his behavior throughout the whole film. This movie is set during the colonial era in
which the Indian people are portrayed with orientalist imagery. When Indy and his crew arrive in the
village, the people, asking Indy to save their children, creates the impression that their own parents
were incompetent and could not saving them without help from the white man. Similarly, when they
find the cult, Mola Ram, the cult leader, states that [t]he British in India will be slaughtered. Then we
will overrun the Moslems and force their Allah to bow to Kali. And then the Hebrew God will fall and
finally the Christian God will be cast down and forgotten. This means left to their own devices, they
will enslave and kill their own people; needing the white ones to rescue them. Also, at the end of the
movie when the Kali worshipers are shooting arrows at Indy, the need for the British troops to defeat
the Kali worshipers shows that they have beat the renegade Indians and have proven once again there

Computer Simulation And Computer Programming
A long time ago, when I used computer for the first time. I played a computer game called Logo in 3rd
grade, which inclined me towards computer. The first day we tried the program, we had trouble
actually moving the darned triangle on the screen. We were supposed to draw a geometric shape with
the little triangle character, which the teacher called a turtle . Movement was slow and unwieldy. We
took turns to type in step by step commands, such as rotate 90 or pen up . But the question is who was
drawing it, which fascinates me. The teacher answered it is microcomputers to draw beautiful, creative
art. The terms microcomputer, processors etc. made me crazy for computer. Few areas of my
education have stimulated me to think as much as my undergraduate courses in Discrete Structures,
Computer graphics, Neural networks, System Programming, Microprocessor, Compiler construction
and design, Artificial Intelligence, Algorithms design and analysis, Theory of Computation and
Computer Programming. Here are innovations that keep evolving not only technically but also hold
infinite scope for creativity and logic. I feel a similar sense of exhilaration when I see my own code
run successfully. It is this feeling, which till date, drives me to not give up on even the toughest of
problems. And it is this love for programming, combined with my desire to dig deeper into the
working of various applications and technologies, which propels me to apply for a Graduate Program

Simulation In Health Care
What is simulation? Well it is the imitation of the operation of a real world process or system over
time. (Google) I think that the use of simulation in health care provides an ideal environmental
experience and burst of reality for students. The use of simulation in health care helps decrease risks
of any kind while increasing the safety throughout health care. I feel that simulations have definitely
provided us with an alternate route for health care, allowing not only students but also healthcare
workers to indulge in real life situations. This provides the learning need to understand important
techniques and treatments instead of having to just witness. Simulation is significantly utilized in the
health care environment. When I was

The Benefits of Humor for Our Health Essay
Norman Cousins said, Laughter is a powerful way to tap positive emotions (Moss 1). Humor is
studied by many researchers in sociology, psychology, art, literature, and medicine. When people
wonder whether humor aids in areas other than health, a treasure trove of possible benefits to the
learning or educational community is opened up. Humor can be used as a tool to promote
learning.Research speaks to the many benefits of humor in healing, to its benefits in the classroom or
boardroom, from reducing stress of students or employees, to boosting self esteem and feelings of
camaraderie. Additionally, studies show that those who use humor to convey a message are often more
favorably perceived. Humor helps deliver the presenter s message to ... Show more content on

Triple Crossbow Research Paper
Imagine thousands of arrows flying at the enemy, giant triple crossbows that shoot metal arrows over a
mile, gunpowder propelled missiles, a crossbow that fires like a machine gun, pinpoint accurate
catapults that can take down specific targets, and bombs exploding all over the ground. One might
think that this is ancient Europe just as one might think that the best warriors in the ancient world were
Europeans such as Anglo Saxons, French, and Greeks. However, this is an ancient battlefield of China.
The reality is that the European warriors were always trying to catch up to the Chinese. In fact, the
Chinese made advances in sword making, archery, siege weapons, and ballistics long before
Europeans had grasped those ideas.
The sword is a weapon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Europeans invented the trebuchet in the late Medieval Ages. It took many men to load and fire the
weapon, but the trebuchet could accurately launch projectiles from a great distance, almost one mile.
However, the triple crossbow is a true siege weapon of mass destruction. It was first depicted in an
ancient document called the Essentials Of the Military Arts, which was completed in the early Song
Dynasty (1043 AD). With a total length of 7.62 meters, this colossal weapon used three bows to shoot
a single bolt. Despite its size, the Chinese generals would mount it on a pivot that made it extremely
mobile and versatile, allowing it to turn in a full 360 degrees. According the Essentials Of the Military
Arts, the triple crossbow would be mounted on top of a tower and the bolts fired were massive full
iron and steel arrows almost the size of the triple crossbow itself, which could be fired over a mile.
The image of a massive iron arrow flying at high speeds and destroying a building into rubble around
the enemies could create fear within the ranks. The fear the bow instilled could cause an army or town
to surrender before any actual fighting begins. As Sun Tzu said, a skillful leader subdues the enemy s
troops without any fighting. These brilliant engineers created the Triple crossbow at the same time as
the trebuchet, but it had a more versatile range of motion and could send projectiles further than the
trebuchet therefor making it more useful on the

Why Did Robert Borden Use Conscription In 1917
Why Using Conscription in 1917 was a Good Idea
During war time 1917, the conditions overseas were not ideal. Many men were dying, making more
volunteers necessary, while the numbers of volunteers were dropping rapidly. Originally, Prime
Minister Robert Borden promised that there would be no conscription during the First World War, but,
due to numbers of volunteers dropping and promising Britain more troops, he created the Military
Services Act that allowed conscription, which called all men ages 20 45 to war in 1917, then was
passed and effective on January 1st, 1918. This leads to the controversy, was using conscription in
World War 1 necessary? Some people argued that it was not necessary for the act to be passed and for
conscription to not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Soldiers were dying quickly, conditions in the trenches were very poor and Britain was losing power
fast which caused Britain to ask for more troops. Specifically, after the Battle of Somme s Canada was
at a loss of men and a lot of current soldiers were wounded, and Canada needed more men to be able
to fight the Germans so they would not be able to get an edge over the British Army and possibly take
over Britain and later Canada. Borden then visited Europe and returned with his decision after seeing
that In May that year, prime minister Robert Borden returned to Canada from Europe and decided the
country couldn t replenish the depleted battle lines without conscription. This all helped Borden make
final choice to create the bill in 1917 and call the men to war. The reinforcements that Canada
provided would later help win Britain win the first World War and keep a good relationship between
Canada and Britain. Therefore, the reinforcements that were sent, increased Canada and Britain s
morale s toward each other. Canada was part of the British Crown, which meant that they were forced
to war in hand with Britain in 1914. When Britain started to lose men in 1917 Prime Minister Robert

Hydraulic Jum Experiment Report
It is observed that the conjugate depth ratio of both the recorded and theoretical results increases
uniformly with the increase in the Froude number for all slopes tested. It is also evident from the
graphs that as the upstream Froude Number increases i.e. moves toward more supercritical flow, the
ratio of the D2/D1 i.e. ratio of the downstream depth to the upstream depth also increases. It is also
evident from the graphs that approximately 97% to 100% of the calculated results all lie within the ±
10% of line of best fit for each curve. As well, each of the graphs verifies a strong positive linear
relationship between the dimensionless jump height and the upstream Froude Number.
These results imply that a more supercritical upstream flow in D1, will produce a larger downstream
depth, D2, and thus a larger hydraulic jump. The results of the experiment confirm the following
relationships
a. D2/D1 1, the depth increases across the jump so that D2 D1
b. F2 1, downstream flow must be subcritical
c. F1 1, upstream flow must be supercritical
It is observed that length of the jump Lj/D2 ratio also increases with increasing F1 values
exponentially. However it must be noted that it is difficult to derive a purely theoretical expression for
the Jump length which at the present moment is done by comparing experimental data using statistical
methods.
The results also show that a stable hydraulic jump can only form when the three independent
parameters D1, D2 and F

Essay On New Solar System
In this article, it states that 39 light years away from Earth, there is a belief that science has found a
new solar system. That very solar system is special since it has seven planets that are very alike to our
Earth. With the terrain being rocky and warm enough that it could support life on it. This discovery is
the first time people have ever found that out that there are rocky planets that are orbiting a single star.
Before we have the technology we have today, the only terrestrial planets we knew of being four
planets. And we didn t even know much about our solar system, other than our planet and some a few
others, but as we reach a new age in our world so many other windows are opening to us as a society.

rocky bodies orbiting the star. They named them TRAPPIST ₁b, ₁c and ₁d. Later, Gilion realized that
the dip in brightness he thought came from ₁d was actually caused by three planets all crossing at the
same time. They eventually realized that there were actually seven planets. The quote explains that all
former three planets were orbiting their own star, which were caused in a dip of brightness that caused
the planets to cross at the same time. All TRAPPIST planets orbit the same star, the line on which they
orbit all move at the same times. They reach each starting point at the same time which is not really
like other planets we have ever heard of before, mainly because the all of the planets in our solar
system all move at their own speed.

for this comes from paragraph one, it states that For years, scientists have found evidence that our
galaxy, the Milky Way, is full of Earth like planets. However, the TRAPPIST ₁ researchers say this
solar system is our best target yet to search for life outside of Earth. This quote explains that for much

The promotion of ICS concentrated in the Southern Region followed by the Central Region. It is,
therefore, recommended to carry out a comprehensive study on ICS adoption across the country.
1. Introduction
1.1. Use of biomass in Sub Saharan Africa
Biomass (charcoal and firewood) is the major energy source in southern Africa, particularly in rural
areas. Most households rely on biomass energy for cooking and space heating. This exhaustive use of
biomass cause several health and environmental related threats. This heavy reliance on biomass exerts
pressure on forests and trees which eventually leads to extensive deforestation and as well as soil
erosion. Furthermore, the traditional cooking on open fire leads to severe problems of indoor air
pollution and its associated health hazards. It is estimated that about 3% of the global burden of
diseases is caused by wood smoke resulting in 1.6 million premature deaths every year including 900
children under five (Malinski, 2008; Warwick and Doig, 2004; WHO, 2002).
One of the factors that results in high demand for fuelwood is its low combustion efficiency (Muneer
and Mohamed, 2003). The development and distribution of energy efficient cooking technology such
as improved biomass cooking stoves (ICS) is considered as one of the best technically possible,
socially reliable, and economically viable interventions available that can help to maintain low
demand for fuelwood to reduce pressure on forest reserves (Arnold et

The Political Ideology Of Anarchism And On The Main...
This essay will focus on the political ideology of Anarchism and on the main believes of this ideology.
It will then specifically take under consideration the belief that the society could survive without the
state which is seen as an evil. In conclusion, it will discuss how the absence of government would
affect people s lives.
Anarchism derives by anarchy which means no rules. It s a philosophy that has is the centre humans.
It focusses on leadership because all humans cooperate to establish rules that has to be respect by
themselves, on decision making made by humans and not by a government which is considered

Their creativity is restricted by force based societies. Humans are social animals who prefer to work
together for the common good rather than for individual interests and wise enough to rule themselves,
they don t need any superior authority when thanks to the humanity are together. Solidarity is the first
human law, freedom the second. Humans can shape their own lives without being influenced by
others. All people are good, innocent, rational. They have been guide in the wrong way by the
authority and by institutions. The state is the reason why crimes happen. The more people are good
and not aggressive, the more successfully the social system will work. No social system can be
successful if people are not peaceful. Anarchists think that with the abolition of the state a new
anarchist man will grew, an energic, cooperative, humane and benevolent one. The state is considered
as the plague of the society. Anarchism tend to maximalize the opportunities for the good and
minimalize the ones for the bad
(M.N. Rothbard,2006).
This essay will now take under consideration the belief that the state is unnecessary for the survival of
the society. Anarchism believe that governments shouldn t rule the society, they believe in a stateless
society.
Two are the main examples of a society without rulers; one is the primitive society and the second one
is the society with subcultures which want to make their own rules and they are trying to eliminate the

Soccer On The East Coast
It has been said that when one gets injured, one never realizes it until you look at the wounded body
part. No statement is more genuine than that. An individual forgets the details of how they got injured.
The if, how, and whys are only noticed later on when you look back and analyze what had occurred.
More often than not, a lot of different things are to blame. Could it be the slip and slide, the angle, or
just a personal mistake? For some reason, I believe it was the first one, and that could explain why I m
scared of slip and slides.
You must be asking yourself what could have possibly happened that led to this erratic fear of slip and
slides?
Soccer on the East coast is an enormous spectacle. Like football in the south and basketball in Indiana,
soccer in the fall is an attraction that closes towns and turns neighboring schools into blood rivals.
Conditioning begins in June, but the real season doesn t start until the third week of August when first

softer note. The team pickup game, ice bath, slip and slide, and a bonfire

Taking a Look at Trickling Filters
Trickling filters are one of the oldest types of biological filters. They have a simple design in which
media is placed in a container that has a partially open bottom so water drains out [45]. The biofilter
container can be constructed of a variety of materials, including plastic, wood, glass, metal, concrete,
or any other nontoxic substance. The size of the biofilter directly determines the carrying capacity of
fish in the system. Larger biofilters have a great ammonia assimilation capacity and can support
greater fish production [43].
From the fish tank water with high ammonia flows into the trickle filter. Since a water trickles are
down over the media, the large surface area and oxygen from the atmosphere allow nitrification
bacteria to oxidize ammonia to nitrite and nitrate. Afterwards, the water exits the trickle filter with
much reduced ammonia content (see Figure 11) [36].
Trickling filters are rugged and easy to operate. They have the ability to treat a wide variety of nutrient
levels (see Figure 11). One of the big advantages of a trickling filter is that the water can leave with
more oxygen than it entered. Because trickling filters have a large air water interface, they also act as
strippers to remove CO2, H2S, N2 or other undesirable volatile gasses. The other advantages of trickle
filter are low maintenance, self aerating, moderate capital cost and medium head application. The only
major drawback of trickling filters is the energy cost required to pump the

Importance Of Three Texts In The Death Of The Ball Turret...
Walt Disney, a very famous animation creator said, There is more treasure in books than in all the
pirate s loot on Treasure Island. Books have influenced mankind in multiple different ways. Books,
such as the Bible and the Koran, have not only changes people s religious perspective, but have also
helped people s live have more meaning. Books tell a story that a reader is able to envision in his or
her mind easily. This semester in Room 303, Mr. McGee has studied many texts with his students. So,
when asked the question of which three texts were the most important, one may not know how to
respond. After close examination and careful thinking, however, it is obvious what three texts must be
the most important. In, The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner, Jarrell proves that his story is important
by portraying the message that war is more brutal than many people think, so it is important to respect
those who fight for a country. He explained how men constantly risk their lives and complete
dangerous missions everyday just for the sake of their country. This author writes of a very brutal war
time. He describes an event that most readers would not understand without prior knowledge or a

Argentin Economic And Monetary Policies
Argentina is considered to be one of the wealthiest countries in Latin America with a Gross Domestic
Product of about 540 billion in 2014, according to the World Bank. However, it hasn t always been
that way. Argentina has seen many periods of economic and political volatility ever since its
independence from the Spanish Empire in 1816. From commodity based export booms in the 19th
century to high inflation and debt defaults in the 20th century, Argentina is a country with a grim and
daunting economic future. Many scholars have predicted that this is the evident fate of the
Argentinean economy and that there is no way of digging themselves out of it. Argentina s political
economic history raises the concern of whether or not it is even ... Show more content on

From this territory of the viceroyalty, the main exports of silver, livestock and crops, such as wheat,
would be harvested and sent back to Spain in exchange for manufactured goods. Although, at this time
Argentina was flourishing due to its exportation of valuable goods, this small sectored economy
ultimately was the first factor that set the tone of economic depression in Argentina, as the economy
revolved around the cultivation and exportation of commodity goods. This trend was consistent until
the 1800 s, the latter of the colonial period, where trade saw a decline due to the Napoleonic Wars.
The decline was driven by tariff barriers and high transpiration costs, resulting in the Consumer Price
Index rising by 64 points. (Paolera and Taylor 35) With this decline and trade, Argentina saw a major
weakening of its major economic sector and there saw an increase in social inequality along with a
decline in the well being of the lower classes. Then between 180 and 1816 Argentina broke away from
the Spanish Empire and declared independence. Upon its newly found independence, Argentina s
economic struggles arose once again and would last for the next couple of decades as a result from
tension between the creole and remaining Spanish elites. The Spanish elites that remained in
Argentina set up an oligarchic republic that attempted to suppress the Unitarians by disengaging them
from the political

Gliomas are broad category of brain tumors arising from glial cells. They are the most common
primary malignant neoplasms of the central nervous system. They are classified into low grade (WHO

The functions of telomeres includes protection of chromosomes from degradation and end to end
fusions, maintains the stability of chromosomes, acts as a mitotic clock to understand the replicative
history of a cell.Telomerase is a ribonucleoprotein DNA polymerase that helps in maintaining the
telomeres by adding TTAGGG repeats at the ends of chromosomes (Greider and Blackburn,1989).
Telomerase consists of two main subunits: telomerase RNA (hTR) and catalytic component human
telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT). The enzymatic activity is usually absent in somatic cells but
remains active in germ line cells, embryonic stem cells and tumor cells. Almost 80 to 90% of human
cancers are characterized by the presence of telomerase activity.Studies on glioma shown that more
than 50% of tumors have telomerase activity and its detection rate increases with the grades of
malignancy (Tchirkov et al 2003). Therefore knockdown of hTERT expression may help in the
development of novel therapeutic strategies. In the present study we evaluate the effect of siRNA to
downregulate hTERT in LN18 cells and also investigated the effect on apoptosis and cell

The long term goal for the Grant Administration was to open Korea to Western markets in the same
way Commodore Matthew Perry had opened Japan in 1854 by a Naval display of military force. On
May 30, 1871 Rear Admiral John Rodgers with a fleet of five ships, part of the Asiatic Squadron,
arrived at the mouth of the Salee River below Seoul. The fleet included theColorado, one of the largest
ships in the Navy with 47 guns, 47 officers, and a 571 man crew. While waiting for senior Korean
officials to negotiate, Rogers sent ships out to make soundings of the Salee River for navigational
purposes.[118][119] The American fleet was fired upon by a Korean fort, but there was little damage.
Rogers gave the Korean government ten days to apologize or begin talks, but the Royal Court kept
silent. After ten days passed, on June 10, Rogers began a series of amphibious assaults that destroyed
5 Korean forts. These military engagements were known as the Battle of Ganghwa. Several hundred
Korean soldiers and three Americans were killed. Korea still refused to negotiate, and the American
fleet sailed away. The Koreans refer to this 1871 U.S. military action as Shinmiyangyo. President
Grant defended Rogers in his third annual message to Congress in December, 1871. After a change in
regimes in Seoul, in 1881, the U.S. negotiated a treaty the first treaty between Korea and a Western
nation.[118] 2 Grant was a Republican, and his main supporters were the Radical and
Stalwartfactions.

Stereotypes Of Anti-Semitism In The 19th Century
There is always an entity in the air, a presence that encroaches beneath the ground, or even an
engrossing feeling that is within the human psyche. This invisible social force that influences
everyday life is called prejudice, to which the excruciating backlash Jews have received for their
cultural identity and traditions even has a term for it: anti semitism. There are a large variety of anti
semitic myths that been associated by inaccurate stereotypes to which ignorance continues to breed. In
order to properly understand how to debunk these pigeonhole categories, three particular myths will
be explored to further comprehend how anti semitism was in the past and how it currently relates to
contemporary times. Jews known for contributing to well poisoning during the Black Death alongside
how this group has been linked to being known as Christ killers and ritual murders provide an ugly,
erroneous portrayal that harms the Jewish community and should be ended immediately.
The term anti semitism was invented in the 19th Century by people who loathed European Jews and ...

Due to the death rate of Jews being lower because of these traditional values, rumors started to spread
around Europe that Jews were the cause of poisoning wells. Non Jewish people, according to their
logic, felt that they needed to be blame since Christian masses believed that the plague was the work
of the devil through his children, the Jews (British Guiana 245). This notion then further developed
the belief that the Black Death was punishment from God for their sins. Christian penitents, known as
flagellants, went from town to town, and wiped themselves with iron rods until bleeding would occur,
in order to symbolize redeeming for their sins they

Martin, an American author, said [t]here is a savage beast in every man, and when you hand that man a sword or spear and send him forth to war, the beast stirs. Martin notes that humans possess a savage nature that may or may not completely alter their personality. Some individuals have the strength to withstand their savage temptations and obey their morals. Although others may be consumed by their innate human nature, causing them to descend rapidly into savagery in order to achieve their goals. At the end, an array containing the column wise sum is created. The same process is carried out to find the vertical array. In this case, rows are processed instead of columns. A.4 Filtering out Unwanted Regions in an Image Once the arrays are passed through a low pass digital filter, a filter is applied so that to remove undesirable areas from an image which includes the horizontal and vertical components of array with low values. Generally low value indicates the plain areas with characters it is due to the fact that intensity of each neighboring pixel of plain areas contains a similar intensity or pixel values such that during horizontal and vertical processing the difference between them is negligible but in case of edges and specially numeric characters the difference between adjacent pixel is high due to variation of intensity, which results into a high array value for such part of an image. Therefore, the required area of region of interest with probable number has a high values while areas with small value are undesirable and such regions are filtered out by applying a certain threshold. In this algorithm, the threshold is equal to the average value of an array. Both row and column vectors are passed through a filter with this threshold, so that the final output ... • 9. Civilism And Civilization In William Golding s Lord Of The... Every day we hear about violence in the news, about terrorists, shooters, and robbers that we do not associate with ourselves. However, hidden within everyone is that innate evil as is shown through Golding s story. The novel, Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, is set on an uninhabited island where a group of young British boys find themselves stranded without any adults. Overcoming their joy, the boys develop a society of sorts, finding ways to survive and get rescued. However, the civilization divides. Some of the boys go astray, their primitive instincts emerging through their actions as they become more violent. The boys lose their identities as cultured humans. They revert to the nature of pre civilization beings with the aid of the masks they don in order to hunt as well as to identify savages. Golding develops the characters, specifically Ralph and Jack, showing the loss of their innocence and steady maturing. However, overly exposed to the wild, Jack and the hunters id, or their instincts unbounded by society or morals, materializes. The id is the impulsive section of the mind that contain the inner desires and are restricted by the ego and superego which are the consciousness. The continuous battle between savagery, represented by the Lord of the Flies, and civilization, represented by the conch and Piggy, is presented throughout the story as the two sides of society battle. In Golding s Lord of the Flies, it is depicted through the actions of the boys that when separated from civilization, one s inevitably evil nature emerges, their true attributes exposed as their ties to society dissolve. With the assistance of the masks and the deindividuation that occurs when acting as a group, the boys on the island lose their sense of identity. Jack and his hunters made clay masks in order to hunt, claiming the pigs they preyed upon did not smell them but saw them. As he set the mask upon himself, [Jack] began to dance and his laughter became a bloodthirsty snarling (Golding, 64) The mask was what Jack hid [behind], liberated from shame and self consciousness, (64) As Jack puts his mask on for the first time, it foreshadows the future violence that will come. Conventionally, firms have answered the question what is our business? in terms of the market they serve: who are our customers? and which of their needs are we seeking to serve? However, in a world where customer preferences are volatile and the identity of customers and the technologies for serving them are changing, a market focused strategy may not provide the stability and constancy of direction needed to guide strategy over the long term.2 When the external environment is in a FIGURE 5.1 Analyzing resources and capabilities: the interface between strategy and the firm THE FIRM l Goals and Values l Resources and Capabilities l Structure and Systems THE INDUSTRY ENVIRONMENT STRATEGY l l Competitors Customers l Suppliers The Firm Strategy Interface

  • 16. Detroit s Real Estate Market The racial undertones of Detroit have been extremely problematic to Detroit s real estate market for well over 50 years. These social disruptions continue to have an effect on the current residents of Detroit. During the middle of the nineteenth century, the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) introduced real estate tactics such as redlining, which is the practice of flagging minority dense neighborhoods for the purposes of denying approval of mortgages or inflating the price of the homes. Redlining had a profound social and economic effect on all residents of Detroit. The white majority began abandoning and selling their homes in fear that the value of the home would plummet, leading to a great financial loss when minorities moved in the area. This idea is known as white flight, and is the primary reason that Detroit has one of the highest African American populations in the country. However, through revitalization and gentrification of the Midtown/Downtown area, Detroit is slowly becoming more diverse. Throughout history, racial politics of the mid to late twentieth century affected Detroit s real estate market by excluding minorities from the real estate market. Although adding stadiums, high end retail, small shops, and restaurants is economically valuable to the city of Detroit, this is conflicting and potentially problematic for the original residents of the area because the prices of these new establishments are often much higher than the residents can afford. ... A cell is the smallest unit of an organism and is the building block of all living things. Key life processes of a cell All living things including cells have some life processes in common. There are seven processes that they need to preform to be classed alive. These are: 1) Movement all living things have movement including plants 2) Respiration the process of getting energy from food 3) Sensitivity this allows the living thing to detect changes in the surroundings 4) Growth all living things grow 5) Reproduction to reproduce and make more living things of the same type 6) Excretion getting rid of waste product 7) Nutrition taking in and using food Viruses are not known as living like cells as living things require nutrition and viruses do not. A virus is not live; it is unable to absorb nutrients, produce or excrete waste; so viruses attach themselves to living organism known as a host to survive and gain the nutrition they need. They also need the host to be able to move and reproduce as they unable to do this alone. Viruses have to inject its viral DNA into the host cell it has invaded in order to get the host to reproduce for it. • 19. A Program Of Management And Leadership Development Essay If an organization has a track record of effective responsiveness to the environment, and if it has been able to successfully change the way it operates when needed, TQM will be easier to implement. If an organization has been historically reactive and has no skill at improving its operating systems, there will be both employee skepticism and a lack of skilled change agents. If this condition prevails, a comprehensive program of management and leadership development may be instituted. A management audit is a good assessment tool to identify current levels of organizational functioning and areas in need of change. An organization should be basically healthy before beginning TQM. If it has significant problems such as a very unstable funding base, weak administrative systems, lack of managerial skill, or poor employee morale, TQM would not be appropriate.5 However, a certain level of stress is probably desirable to initiate TQM. People need to feel a need for a change. Kanter (1983) addresses this phenomenon be describing building blocks which are present in effective organizational change. These forces include departures from tradition, a crisis or galvanizing event, strategic decisions, individual prime movers, and action vehicles. Departures from tradition are activities, usually at lower levels of the organization, which occur when entrepreneurs move outside the normal ways of operating to solve a problem. The outer end of the frame has grooves and the inner part seems as if it is made from many tiny pieces held together or fitted together like a puzzle. In Indian Jones and the Temple of Doom, Short Round or Shorty, Indy s sidekick whom he found living on the streets after his parents were killed when the Japanese bombed Shanghai, would be an example of a mimic by the way in which he mimics and idolizes Dr. Jones; trying to exhibit his behavior throughout the whole film. This movie is set during the colonial era in which the Indian people are portrayed with orientalist imagery. When Indy and his crew arrive in the village, the people, asking Indy to save their children, creates the impression that their own parents were incompetent and could not saving them without help from the white man. Similarly, when they find the cult, Mola Ram, the cult leader, states that [t]he British in India will be slaughtered. Then we will overrun the Moslems and force their Allah to bow to Kali. And then the Hebrew God will fall and finally the Christian God will be cast down and forgotten. This means left to their own devices, they will enslave and kill their own people; needing the white ones to rescue them. Also, at the end of the movie when the Kali worshipers are shooting arrows at Indy, the need for the British troops to defeat the Kali worshipers shows that they have beat the renegade Indians and have proven once again there need to stay in this country to ... The first day we tried the program, we had trouble actually moving the darned triangle on the screen. We were supposed to draw a geometric shape with the little triangle character, which the teacher called a turtle . Movement was slow and unwieldy. We took turns to type in step by step commands, such as rotate 90 or pen up . But the question is who was drawing it, which fascinates me. The teacher answered it is microcomputers to draw beautiful, creative art. The terms microcomputer, processors etc. made me crazy for computer. Few areas of my education have stimulated me to think as much as my undergraduate courses in Discrete Structures, Computer graphics, Neural networks, System Programming, Microprocessor, Compiler construction and design, Artificial Intelligence, Algorithms design and analysis, Theory of Computation and Computer Programming. Here are innovations that keep evolving not only technically but also hold infinite scope for creativity and logic. I feel a similar sense of exhilaration when I see my own code run successfully. It is this feeling, which till date, drives me to not give up on even the toughest of problems. • 26. The Benefits of Humor for Our Health Essay Norman Cousins said, Laughter is a powerful way to tap positive emotions (Moss 1). Humor is studied by many researchers in sociology, psychology, art, literature, and medicine. When people wonder whether humor aids in areas other than health, a treasure trove of possible benefits to the learning or educational community is opened up. Humor can be used as a tool to promote learning.Research speaks to the many benefits of humor in healing, to its benefits in the classroom or boardroom, from reducing stress of students or employees, to boosting self esteem and feelings of camaraderie. Triple Crossbow Research Paper Imagine thousands of arrows flying at the enemy, giant triple crossbows that shoot metal arrows over a mile, gunpowder propelled missiles, a crossbow that fires like a machine gun, pinpoint accurate catapults that can take down specific targets, and bombs exploding all over the ground. One might think that this is ancient Europe just as one might think that the best warriors in the ancient world were Europeans such as Anglo Saxons, French, and Greeks. However, this is an ancient battlefield of China. The reality is that the European warriors were always trying to catch up to the Chinese. It took many men to load and fire the weapon, but the trebuchet could accurately launch projectiles from a great distance, almost one mile. However, the triple crossbow is a true siege weapon of mass destruction. It was first depicted in an ancient document called the Essentials Of the Military Arts, which was completed in the early Song Dynasty (1043 AD). With a total length of 7.62 meters, this colossal weapon used three bows to shoot a single bolt. Despite its size, the Chinese generals would mount it on a pivot that made it extremely mobile and versatile, allowing it to turn in a full 360 degrees. According the Essentials Of the Military Arts, the triple crossbow would be mounted on top of a tower and the bolts fired were massive full iron and steel arrows almost the size of the triple crossbow itself, which could be fired over a mile. The image of a massive iron arrow flying at high speeds and destroying a building into rubble around the enemies could create fear within the ranks. The fear the bow instilled could cause an army or town to surrender before any actual fighting begins. As Sun Tzu said, a skillful leader subdues the enemy s troops without any fighting. These brilliant engineers created the Triple crossbow at the same time as the trebuchet, but it had a more versatile range of motion and could send projectiles further than the trebuchet therefor making it more useful on the ... Many men were dying, making more volunteers necessary, while the numbers of volunteers were dropping rapidly. Originally, Prime Minister Robert Borden promised that there would be no conscription during the First World War, but, due to numbers of volunteers dropping and promising Britain more troops, he created the Military Services Act that allowed conscription, which called all men ages 20 45 to war in 1917, then was passed and effective on January 1st, 1918. Hydraulic Jum Experiment Report It is observed that the conjugate depth ratio of both the recorded and theoretical results increases uniformly with the increase in the Froude number for all slopes tested. It is also evident from the graphs that as the upstream Froude Number increases i.e. moves toward more supercritical flow, the ratio of the D2/D1 i.e. ratio of the downstream depth to the upstream depth also increases. It is also evident from the graphs that approximately 97% to 100% of the calculated results all lie within the ± 10% of line of best fit for each curve. As well, each of the graphs verifies a strong positive linear relationship between the dimensionless jump height and the upstream Froude Number. These results imply that a more supercritical upstream flow in D1, will produce a larger downstream depth, D2, and thus a larger hydraulic jump. The results of the experiment confirm the following relationships a. D2/D1 1, the depth increases across the jump so that D2 D1 b. F2 1, downstream flow must be subcritical c. F1 1, upstream flow must be supercritical It is observed that length of the jump Lj/D2 ratio also increases with increasing F1 values exponentially. However it must be noted that it is difficult to derive a purely theoretical expression for the Jump length which at the present moment is done by comparing experimental data using statistical methods. The results also show that a stable hydraulic jump can only form when the three independent parameters D1, D2 and F ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. Taking a Look at Trickling Filters Trickling filters are one of the oldest types of biological filters. They have a simple design in which media is placed in a container that has a partially open bottom so water drains out [45]. The biofilter container can be constructed of a variety of materials, including plastic, wood, glass, metal, concrete, or any other nontoxic substance. The size of the biofilter directly determines the carrying capacity of fish in the system. Larger biofilters have a great ammonia assimilation capacity and can support greater fish production [43]. From the fish tank water with high ammonia flows into the trickle filter. Since a water trickles are down over the media, the large surface area and oxygen from the atmosphere allow nitrification bacteria to oxidize ammonia to nitrite and nitrate. Afterwards, the water exits the trickle filter with much reduced ammonia content (see Figure 11) [36]. Trickling filters are rugged and easy to operate. They have the ability to treat a wide variety of nutrient levels (see Figure 11). One of the big advantages of a trickling filter is that the water can leave with more oxygen than it entered. Because trickling filters have a large air water interface, they also act as strippers to remove CO2, H2S, N2 or other undesirable volatile gasses. The other advantages of trickle filter are low maintenance, self aerating, moderate capital cost and medium head application. The only major drawback of trickling filters is the energy cost required to pump the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Argentin Economic And Monetary Policies Argentina is considered to be one of the wealthiest countries in Latin America with a Gross Domestic Product of about 540 billion in 2014, according to the World Bank. However, it hasn t always been that way. Argentina has seen many periods of economic and political volatility ever since its independence from the Spanish Empire in 1816. From commodity based export booms in the 19th century to high inflation and debt defaults in the 20th century, Argentina is a country with a grim and daunting economic future. Many scholars have predicted that this is the evident fate of the Argentinean economy and that there is no way of digging themselves out of it. From this territory of the viceroyalty, the main exports of silver, livestock and crops, such as wheat, would be harvested and sent back to Spain in exchange for manufactured goods. Although, at this time Argentina was flourishing due to its exportation of valuable goods, this small sectored economy ultimately was the first factor that set the tone of economic depression in Argentina, as the economy revolved around the cultivation and exportation of commodity goods. This trend was consistent until the 1800 s, the latter of the colonial period, where trade saw a decline due to the Napoleonic Wars. The decline was driven by tariff barriers and high transpiration costs, resulting in the Consumer Price Index rising by 64 points. (Paolera and Taylor 35) With this decline and trade, Argentina saw a major weakening of its major economic sector and there saw an increase in social inequality along with a decline in the well being of the lower classes. Then between 180 and 1816 Argentina broke away from the Spanish Empire and declared independence. Upon its newly found independence, Argentina s economic struggles arose once again and would last for the next couple of decades as a result from tension between the creole and remaining Spanish elites. The Spanish elites that remained in Argentina set up an oligarchic republic that attempted to suppress the Unitarians by disengaging them from the political ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Glioma Essay Gliomas are broad category of brain tumors arising from glial cells. They are the most common primary malignant neoplasms of the central nervous system. They are classified into low grade (WHO grades I and II) and high grade (WHO grade III and IV) tumors. Almost 80% of gliomas are astrocytic tumors including Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). Diagnosis of glioma includes a CT scan/MRI scan and biopsy. These tumors are highly resistant to current treatment modalities including surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, corticosteroids, antiangiogenic therapy, and experimental approaches such as gene transfer, their prognosis is dismal.Malignant gliomas results from a multistep process which involves genetic alterations arised from innate and environmental ... The functions of telomeres includes protection of chromosomes from degradation and end to end fusions, maintains the stability of chromosomes, acts as a mitotic clock to understand the replicative history of a cell.Telomerase is a ribonucleoprotein DNA polymerase that helps in maintaining the telomeres by adding TTAGGG repeats at the ends of chromosomes (Greider and Blackburn,1989). Telomerase consists of two main subunits: telomerase RNA (hTR) and catalytic component human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT). The enzymatic activity is usually absent in somatic cells but remains active in germ line cells, embryonic stem cells and tumor cells. Almost 80 to 90% of human cancers are characterized by the presence of telomerase activity.Studies on glioma shown that more than 50% of tumors have telomerase activity and its detection rate increases with the grades of malignancy (Tchirkov et al 2003). Therefore knockdown of hTERT expression may help in the development of novel therapeutic strategies. In the present study we evaluate the effect of siRNA to downregulate hTERT in LN18 cells and also investigated the effect on apoptosis and cell ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Stereotypes Of Anti-Semitism In The 19th Century There is always an entity in the air, a presence that encroaches beneath the ground, or even an engrossing feeling that is within the human psyche. This invisible social force that influences everyday life is called prejudice, to which the excruciating backlash Jews have received for their cultural identity and traditions even has a term for it: anti semitism. There are a large variety of anti semitic myths that been associated by inaccurate stereotypes to which ignorance continues to breed. In order to properly understand how to debunk these pigeonhole categories, three particular myths will be explored to further comprehend how anti semitism was in the past and how it currently relates to contemporary times. Jews known for contributing to well poisoning during the Black Death alongside how this group has been linked to being known as Christ killers and ritual murders provide an ugly, erroneous portrayal that harms the Jewish community and should be ended immediately. The term anti semitism was invented in the 19th Century by people who loathed European Jews and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to the death rate of Jews being lower because of these traditional values, rumors started to spread around Europe that Jews were the cause of poisoning wells. Non Jewish people, according to their logic, felt that they needed to be blame since Christian masses believed that the plague was the work of the devil through his children, the Jews (British Guiana 245). This notion then further developed the belief that the Black Death was punishment from God for their sins. Christian penitents, known as flagellants, went from town to town, and wiped themselves with iron rods until bleeding would occur, in order to symbolize redeeming for their sins they ...
