The Red Umbrella
In addition to stereotyping other cultures, low context and high context cultures was also a topic
addressed in the book and in class. As it is represented in The Joy Luck Club, The Red Umbrella
also shows a difference or clash between low context and high context cultures. There can be
difficulties when one from a high context culturebegins to live in a low context culture setting.
These difficulties are addressed in The Red Umbrella and The Joy Luck Club. The first example
of a transition from a high context to a low context culture is addressed in The Red Umbrella.
Lucia s mother never allowed Lucia to cut her hair short, and she respected this rule. In the book
she provides this example when her adoptive mother, Mrs. Baxter, offered to cut her hair. Lucia

Then, coming after, Lucia had just gotten off the phone with her mother, who was informing her
not to grow up too fast, meaning, not to wear her skirts too short, no makeup, and no highheels.
Lucia could not take this prevention of growing up anymore. Addressing Mrs. Baxter, Lucia
declared I want you to cut my hair...short. Really short (Gonzalez 193). The two quotes presented
are ideal examples of an individual, from a high context culture, being raised by one of a low
context culture. Mrs. Baxter, unlike Lucia s mother, cut Lucia s hair for her instead of denying her
wishes. A second example of transitioning from a high context culture to a low context culture
includes the specific bonds between a mother and her daughter. The reading, titled High context
Cultures and Low Context Cultures, addressed in class, explains the distinct differences between
the two cultures. When presenting information about high context cultures, the reading informs

The People Have Made Outstanding Progress On Their Goal Essay
Over the Rainbow
Twenty four year old Daniel Zamudio was walking through a park in Santiago, Chile, when four
men appeared and began to burn Daniel with cigarettes and beat him with rocks and glass bottles,
injuring him in various ways (Saul). The men used the broken glass to cut off a part of his ear, as
well as, cut swastikas into his skin because Zumudio was gay (Saul). Less than a month later, Daniel
Zamudio passed away due to this violent hate crime (Saul). Although only few instances of
homophobic crimes are reported, FBI statistics show that attacks on the lesbian, gay, bisexual,
transgender, transsexual, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual, ally, and pansexual (LGBT+)
community, such as the Orlando gay nightclub shooting, are one of the common occurrences, right
behind racial attacks (Saul). LGBT people have made outstanding progress on their goal to reach
equality. For example, same sex couples now have the right to adopt children in all the states of
America and thanks to President Obama, federal workers cannot be discriminated upon sexual
orientation or gender identity (Clinton). Although the LGBT community has civil rights that should
be protected, due to society s narrow mindedness, the LGBT+ community gets treated as second
class citizens.
Education is an important factor in life in order to thrive, but LGBT students face harassment in
school due to their identity. According to a Human Rights report conducted in 2001, two million

Rory Gilmore Character Analysis
When I think of a character that is like me I think of the character Rory Gilmore from the 2000
tv show Gilmore Girls. She starts as a 16 year old girl who dreams of getting into Harvard
University. Rory works so hard to keep her grades up and to keep a healthy relationship with her
mother. When she faces difficult situations in life, she remains kind and dependent. She is always
there for her best friends, relationships, and her family. Lorelai Gilmore is the mother of Rory.
Rory s relationship with her mother is the kind of relationship I have with my mother. They have
always had the same taste in music, movies, and lots of coffee. Rory depends on her mother just
as much as her mother depends on her. When Rory was born it was only her

Summary Of The Good The Bad And The Daily Show By Jason...
Today, there are two central types of research. First hand research is research that is conducted
by the individual themselves such as experiments, interviews, surveys etc. Second hand research
is information that one gets by studying various texts that has been supplied and complied by
others such as websites, periodicals, and books. No matter what type of sources are employed
into an academic essay, they must be reliable. To put it simply, ones sources must all be accurate,
trustworthy and reliable. Jason Zinser s article, The Good, the Bad, and The Daily Show would
prove to be a reliable and useful source for an academic researchpaper when looking at how Zinser
utilized his sources, audience and his authority as a writer to demonstrate his credibility.
The credibility of an author is very important in determining the quality of sources you have located

his authority as a writer by providing a synopsis of his life/education. Information such as earning
a Ph.D. in philosophy, and affirming that he is a professor that teaches at the University of North
Florida which aids his argument in reliability. To be a doctor in Philosophy illustrates that one is
highly educated and taking into account that he not only has a Ph.D. in philosophy, but also

Once More To The Lake Analysis
Once More To The Lake by E.B White features stylistic and rhetorical strategies such as literary
tone and flashbacks. Through the use of White s flashbacks to his earlier childhood at the lake, the
literary tone of nostalgia and reminiscent sentiment is set. The nostalgic attitude of the work
contributes to the heartfelt tone of the piece as White transports the audience to a meaningful time
in his life. Furthermore, the use of the various flashbacks helps White relate his childhood to his
child, creating a parallel between White and his father, when he was his childs age. Through this
sentimental tone, the overall meaning of the work is created as it displays how time does not
change memories, even if time has changed the present day. Together, these stylistic choices affect
the audience s reactions as the reader is able to identify how the lake represents the authors
unfading and untouchable memories of his younger days.
White s purpose for writing this piece was to describe how memories can not be changed despite
how time changes everything around it. This can be seen when the author states that the middle
road in the dusty field was gone, leaving two roads. Despite this change, the author states that the
way led past the tennis court, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The piece was written describing White s time at Belgrade Lakes, Maine, where he vacationed as
a child. With this, the audience of the piece was anyone who read Harper s Magazine and had an
interest in White s autobiographical piece about Maine and his time at the Belgrade Lake.
Furthermore, the piece was written during World War II, and highlights a better time in America s
history, where there was no war and kids could be run free without the worries of an ongoing war. It
can be seen that despite the anxiety of war, memories of the past remain tender, and remind the
audience that time passes continuously, but fond memories will unfailingly be

The Causes And Consequences Of Low Birth Weight
The Causes and Consequences of Low Birth Weight
Low Birth rate is defined by the World health Organization as a baby weighing under 2,499
grams or less regardless of gestational age. (WHO) This is a Prominent issue in our world today
because on average 30 million low birth weight babies are born every year. There are many factors
that can causes low birth weight such as premature birth, substances that affect the mother s health,
father s support, stress, the mothers age and race, and insufficient prenatal care. Low birth weight is
important to prevent and treat because it can lead multiple life threatening consequences, some of
which can remain with the child for life.
Pre mature birth is the number one cause of low birth weight in the United States. A baby is
considered pre mature if they are delivered before the thirty seventh week of pregnancy. This occurs
when the mother goes into labor to early. This can become very dangerous for the baby because
it had less time to develop in the womb leading to developmental issues. Symptoms of premature
birth include a large head in comparison to the body size, respiratory distress, trouble
maintaining body heat, eye damage. There are three types of pre term are Extremely preterm a
child born less than 28 weeks, very preterm born between 28 to 32 weeks, and moderate to late
preterm born between 32 to 37 weeks.
There are many substances that an expecting mother can consume that can cause the child be born
with a low birth weight.

Wasteland Vik Munniz
Wasteland is an inspiring, strong, awakening documentary about a fine artist named Vik Muniz.
The documentary is directed by Lucy Walker, and filmed in the largest landfill in the world located
in Rio De Janero, Brazil. It is based around the lives of several hard working garbage pickers who
desperately want to change the world by recycling. A lot of these garbage pickers work up to 16
hours a day for only $20 to $25 dollars a day. Some of these pickers do not go home for days at a
time, and some of them live at the landfill permanently. I was very inspired by the people in this
documentary. As much as these people disliked working where they worked and living where they
lived. They carried a very high amount of self respect and self value.... Show more content on

photographs he recreates is Marat. A Jacques Louis David painting The Death of Marat, which
was painted and released on the 14th of November 1793. Marat was a French revolutionary
leader Jean Paul Marat who was murdered by Charlotte Corday while sitting in his bath tub in

An Analysis of the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
The Chronicles of Narnia are veritably the most popular writings of C.S. Lewis. They are known as
children s fantasy literature, and have found favor in older students and adults alike, even many
Christian theologians enjoy these stories from Lewis; for there are many spiritual truths that one
can gleam from them, if familiar with the Bible. However, having said this, it is noteworthy to say
that Lewis did not scribe these Chronicles for allegorical didactics of the Christian faith, but wrote
them in such a well knit fashion that young readers might understand Christian doctrine through
captivating fantasy and thus gain an appreciation for it. With this in mind, and in the interest of this
assignment, the purpose of this paper is an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This temptation of power is very like the story of Jesus being tempted by Satan in the desert.
Satan, like the Witch, tempts Jesus with power in exchange for service (Matt 4:8 9). In addition
to yielding to these various temptations, Edmund also agrees not to reveal his knowledge of the
Witch to his siblings and consequentially ends up lying to them about his discovery of Narnia. By
doing this, Edmund fulfills the antithesis of New Testament virtues of a good Christian in face
of temptation. Lewis artfully interlaces these Biblical themes of temptation into the character of
Edmund. However, Edmund s character is allegorical to the Biblical character of Judas, the
betrayer. Edmund betrays his siblings and the Beavers by going to seek the White Witch. All he
could think about were his earthly desires and wants Turkish Delight, and the thought of being a
prince. Comparing a mere child to Judas, however, is a very serious allegory for a children s
novel. So, Lewis creates the idea of the Witch giving Edmund enchanted Turkish Delight. By
making Edmund s cravings for Turkish Delight the fault of the Witch and not his own, Lewis
alleviates some of the force of Edmund s offense. Once again, taking biblical imagery and
softening it to appeal to a young audience; and in the end of course, Edmund is

The R V. Dudley And Stephens Case Essay
The R v. Dudley and Stephens case occurred in 1884. In May of that year, four men left
Southampton, England for Australia on the Mignonette, a private sailing yacht. These men
were Captain Thomas Dudley (31), mate Edward Stephens (36), seaman Edmond Brooks (38),
and cabin boy Richard Parker (17). While crossing the South Atlantic near the Cape of Good
Hope in July, bad weather struck the yacht and it sunk. The men managed to escape into the
lifeboat, and two one pound tins of turnips were the only food they subsisted on for four days.
They caught a small turtle on the fourth day that lasted eight days, and were without food for
another eight days after. The only fresh water they had was the rain that came from time to time.
On the sixteenth day of drifting Richard Parker became ill from drinking seawater. On the
eighteenth day Dudley and Stephens approached Brooks with the idea that they should sacrifice
one person to save the rest. Brooks dissented, and they did not consult Parker as he was ill. On
July 24th Dudley and Stephens reasoned with Brooks, saying that since they had families to
take care of it was most logical to kill the boy and save themselves. They proposed that if there were
no vessels in sight the next day they would kill Parker. As there were no vessels, Dudley killed
Parker by slitting his throat; the boy was so ill he did not resist. Brooks dissented until Parker s
death, but also fed on the blood and flesh of Parker with the two accused for four days.

Essay On The Night Of The Broken Glass
The Night of the Broken Glass signified a turning point for the Jews, it was the first time they
realized they were no longer safe under Hitler s regime. Hitler began enacting anti semitic laws in
1933, but it wasn t until now serious violence was occurring against Jews. During the uncontrolled
riots on that traumatic night, over 100 Jewslost their lives, there was more than 30,000 Jews
arrested and sent to jails or concentration camps, 2,000 Jewish community buildings and
synagogues were destroyed, and over 7,500 Jewish stores were looted (Schwartz 50). There was
nothing left for the Jews, everything was destroyed. This was the first time Jews realized the
severity of their situation and knew they had to start taking measures to ensure their family s safety.
On the verge of WWII 10,000 Jewish children left their homes, their families, and their childhoods
behind. On November 21st 1938 British Parliament took action by allowing Jewish children from
Germany to come to England. Members of the British Parliament wanted to take action because
they were horrified by the Nazis actions. They wanted to help the Jews, but many concerns arose
from the citizens. Citizens were worried the mass income of refugees would hurt the economy, take
jobs, and require public support (Holtman 107). In order to eliminate these issues it was decided
that only children were going to be allowed into the country. Children were more adaptable, they
could be taught to fit in with the customs and learn

Trade Agreements Facilitate The Free Exchange Of Goods And...
Trade agreements facilitate the free exchange of goods and services between nation states, and
contribute to varying degrees to complete economic integration between two or more states.
Autarky refers to a non trading status, a phenomenon rarely seen in today s increasingly
integrated globe. The steps taken to fully integrate are referred to as stages, a categorization that
makes evident the variability in degree of integration. At the first stage, a preferential trade area
can be set up as a less formal means of encouraging trade by enacting preferential tariffs to target
specific countries exports (usually developing countries), in addition to other unilateral trade
benefits. Free trade areas are the next step up along the full... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

NAFTA The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) is an agreement among Mexico,
Canada, and the United States that removes trade tariffs between the three members. Along with
the removal of tariffs, NAFTA created the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC),
which monitors the environmental impact of the agreement. NAFTA was signed on December
8, 1993 by the Clinton administration, and the agreement went into effect on January 1, 1994.
NAFTA has significantly increased trade between the three countries. This agreement has
increased exports for all countries, while making imports cheaper. For example, the US accounts
for 50% of Mexico s imports, and it accounts for 51% of Canada s imports. The effects of
NAFTA on the US economy were smaller than predicted, and its effect is hard to separate from
the general boom of the US economy during the 1990s and early 2000s. While many jobs were
created during this period, some critics argue that job creation and economic growth would have
been even greater without NAFTA. Many economists have done studies to quantify the welfare
effects of NAFTA on its member states. One 2015 study estimated the welfare effect of NAFTA
on its member states. It found a welfare increase of 1.31% in Mexico, an increase of 0.08% in the
US, and a welfare decrease of 0.06% in Canada. Although these effects are very modest, some
argue that NAFTA has had more pronounced effects on specific sectors of these countries

The Importance Of Communication And Communication
In 2008, the World Health Organization estimated that as many as one in ten patients are harmed
while receiving care (Armellino, Griffin, Fitzpatrick 2010, p.796). This demonstrates the substantial
potential for improvement. Finkelman (2016) mentions that a code of silence exists because in the
past people are quick to blame the person who made the mistake, over looking all the steps in the
system that precipitated that error. This malignant silence disrupts a true and just safetyculture from
improving patient outcomes. The ideal safety culture in healthcare should focus on the big picture
of healthcare as a system by empowering staff to raise concerns. With these shared experiences, a
dialogue can be created among staff and management to develop plans that improvepatient safety.
Multiple studies correlate that harm and poor patient outcomes are a result of lacking patient safety
(DiCuccio, 2015). A successful patient safety culture requires responsibility of the team to increase
staff awareness focusing on education in topics of quality care and error reporting. Why the silence
exists is complex and the explanations may vary between units and between hospitals.
The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has developed a hospital survey on
patient safety culture. The hospital survey on patient safety (SOPS) is able to examine individual
hospitals and units to improve patient safety and patient outcomes by understanding the source of
underreported errors. SOPS

The Origins of Celtic Music
Even though Celtic Music does not have a set date in which it was created, it still has a long and

the key factors that led to the creation of Celtic music.
The origins of Celtic music and the instruments used in order to create such healthily flamboyant

Aaron Alexis s case could have been avoided if gun laws had been more reliable. Investigators

This was unlike him. Stone was a very good natured person who was cursed with his mental
illness. He was the father of four young girls who he would have never decided to leave had he

people who are threatening to harm themselves or others without a warrant. (26) Regardless of
whether or not they ve been found to have a mental illness, it is a very effective method because
it allows police to take away a weapon that has the potential to do quite a bit of damage in a very
short time. Had Stone s gun been confiscated, he might not have done what he did. One flaw:
Stone acted on an impulse directed by his mental illness. If police were able to legally take away
a person s firearms because he/she was diagnosed with a mental illness, then less damage could
have been done in regard to the firearm s capability of destruction.
Many things can be done differently in order to provide a safer, yet fair way to manage who can
and cannot purchase firearms. One change that could be made is a mental evaluation directly
before a person can legally purchase a gun. This would help because people who pose an
immediate threat would not be able to purchase a gun or other firearm during that time, when they
might be considered the most dangerous. However, some people would have no

Importantly, let s not overlook the effects of salmon population declines on the indigenous
peoples of California. Tribes such as the Karuk, Yurok, Wiyot and the Hoopa, to name just a few,
have depended on salmon as their main food source for centuries. Salmon was not just food, but
central to their religion, their diet, and their overall way of life. Salmon are the cornerstone of
their culture (Harling, 2006). The loss of this abundant natural resource must be seen not only
as degrading the health of the river ecosystem, but also as severely impacting the health of the
tribes. Until the early 1850 s California s rivers flowed freely to the Pacific Ocean. The
emergence of dams started with small earthen dams used to divert water for mining and
irrigation purposes. The diverted water used for hydraulic mining would prove to be the
beginning of a long era of environmental degradation of California s river ecosystems. With the
turn of the century came a population boom and the rapid development of urban centers and an
increased demand for water. With the end of the gold rush, agriculture quickly became the main
player in California s economy. This too, raised the demand for water and dams were being built
at a staggering pace. The introduction of huge hydropower dams proved to be the nail in the
coffin for anadromous fish because little or no heed was paid to the impact of dams on the state s
watersheds. Today California has over fourteen hundred dams responsible for

Annie Dillard
The commitment of being a writer in Dillard s Death of a Moth
In her essay Death of a Moth, Annie Dillard explores the amount of commitment required to be a
writer. She finds that in order to be successful as a writer, you have to be fully committed, and
ready to fully dedicate your life to your craft. Dillard models these ideas with a story about a moth
that flew into a candle and burnt; becoming a second wick. She tells this story in great detail, and
then connects it to her ideas about writing by describing asking her class if they truly want to be
writers, giving the impression that she also just told them this story. Her use of descriptive language
adds meaning and importance to an otherwise insignificant event, and creates an ... Show more

In order to be successful, the students must fully dive in and give themselves to writing. Though
her students say that yes they do want to be writers, Dillard questions if they understand what
the choice really means. She asks herself why do I want them to mean it? ; perhaps because just
as she can recognize a moth, she can also recognize that many of them will not end up becoming
writers. They do not understand that writing will be hard work but relatively unrewarding. Only
after the moth had died did it truly begin to burn, acting as a second wick. Only after she falls
asleep do the candles in Dillard s last paragraph flame and thrive. The true success of the writing
the inspiration and understanding it creates for others will remain relatively unseen by the writer.
Dillard changes the tone of her writing many times throughout the essay. She does so by

describes her house, and the bugs that live in it, her tone seems very candid and almost a little

scene. Her diction choices reflect this candidness, as she describes the spider as bulbous, the bugs

Identity Crisis And An External Driving Force, By David Peck
Self acceptance may be one quality that some individuals cannot obtain. In literature, the
protagonist often struggles to accept their true identity. Characters struggle to either accept
themselves or be accepted by others in the literary work. The search for identity or struggle for
acceptance can be driven by multiple outside forces. Searching for identityis prominent not only in
literature, but also in the real world. An article written by David Peck explains the relationship
between an internal identity crisis and an external driving force. He states that ... the identity crisis
has demonstrated its power as one of the major thematic concerns in literature. Conflict between a
person or group and another person, group, or natural... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

society, each group of people has specific characteristics. For example, alphas are usually tall,
powerful, and strongly built. All of these traits decrease from caste to caste. Epsilons are very
short, weak, and not smart. Also, children are born through Bokanovsky s process, meaning they
are created in a lab, not born from a human. In the world state, relationships with a single person,

Cross Sectional Approach
Schneider s FRS, NHSI, and the Flexible System for Diagnosis of Schizophrenia are all cross
sectional approaches to diagnosing schizophrenia (Fenton, Mathews, Mosher, 1981). A cross
sectional approach is a study that is only observational, and encompasses many subjects from many
places. When this approach is applied to diagnosing schizophrenia, it implies that these systems can
diagnose numerous individuals from many different places in the same manner. Feighner Criteria
and the DSM V are longitudinal approaches to diagnosing schizophrenia (Fenton, Mathews,
Mosher, 1981). Like the cross sectional approach, the longitudinal approach is observational only,
but instead of encompassing many individuals, this approach follows a few individuals

Garbage On Everest

At the highest point on Earth, Mount Everest, at 29,029 feet above sea level is polluted with over
13,000 tons of trash. The North and South peaks are polluted with broken tent parts, oxygen
canisters, frozen bodies and so much more. Mt. Everest , world s tallest mountain is also
disgustingly polluted with garbage. Most of it oxygen tanks, tent parts, sleeping bags, human waste,
equipment parts, and frozen bodies. About 2.5 tons of it was classified as bio

Taking a Look at Radio Communication
One of the most important contributions to communication is the invention of radio
communication. It has provided a platform for wireless cellular communication. According to an
article, it was first believed that The wireless telephone will also cover the seas, lakes and
waterways, supplementing the wireless telegraph over short distances (Burt, 1908, para. 3). If
only he knew that wireless telegraph will become a thing of the past. The first effective radio
communication system was developed by Guglielmo Marconi, an Italian inventor, and scientist
(Guglielmo Marconi Biography, n.d.). Marconi never had any formal scientific education
(Bababian, 1992), but has been the recipient of honorary doctorates of several universities
(Guglielmo Marconi Biographical, 2013, para. 8). He began experimenting with
electromagnetic waves in 1894 when he was twenty years old. However, Nikola Tesla is now
credited with being the first person to patent radio technology; the Supreme Court overturned
Marconi s patent in 1943 in favour of Tesla. (Bellis, n.d., para. 6) . In the 1930 s radios were
commonly found in households as a source for entertainment and news. Since then, radio
technology has advanced significantly since its early days, especially to the sound quality and it s
ability to travel great distances. This form of entertainment is supported by the use of carrier
waves. These waves travel at the speed of light (Abbot and Rider, 1957). Carrier waveforms are the

points out the flaws of humanity and how we are slaves to our money. The characters in the

Marine Corps Hymn
The Marine Corps Hymn
One of the best known of the official military songs is the Marine Corps Hymn. And yet, no one
knows who made it or exactly how old it is. Legend has it that it dates back to the Mexican
American War (1846 1848). It wasn t officially copyrighted until 1917 when W.E. Christian
published it in the book Rhymes of Rookies (Gutenberg.org). Even though we don t know its
exact origin, we do know what the song stands for and what it means. The hymn praises the
idealism of the Marine Corps and also looks back on historic moments Marines have dealt with and
overcome.
Different parts of the Hymn refer to specific historical events. The first line From the halls of
Montezuma refers to when the Marines captured Chapultepec Castle in 1847 during the
Mexican American War. The castle was in the heart of Mexico City, Mexico s capital. It served
as a military academy and also offered protection to the rest of the city. After its capture the treaty
of Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed and the war was over (history.com). This was one of the
bloodiest battles in Marine Corps history and the red stripe called blood stripes on the Marines
dress uniform is to commemorate the bloodshed during the battle. It signifies the tenacity of the
Marines who won despite being outnumbered by the Mexicans.
The second line to the shores of Tripoli refers to the First Barbary War(1801 1805), which was the
first war the United States had declared on foreign land and seas. Specifically,

The Electric Drive Revolution And Electric Cars
Capstone Introduction Paragraph
The electric drive revolution will become accepted and advance over time, just like computers and
cell phones have over the last few days (anonymous). Electric cars have been around for many
years. But they just started coming back around in the 21st century. Before anyone who had
charging stations they would have to switch out their battery for their electric car whenever it ran
out. The electric cars were created to basically compete with gas powered cars. They were also
created to reduce the pollution created by gas cars. Countries all over the world have started to
create more and more electric cars. In fact, in this exact moment Japan already has more
charging stations than gas stations which could possibly mean that they already have more
electric cars than gas cars. The first electric car was created in the early 1900 s by Thomas
Edison. People are only starting to go back to electric cars because charging stations were
invented. With charging stations in place now people won t have to rely on gas stations and gas
powered cars, they will only rely on the more environment friendly charging stations and electric
cars. Also with electric cars you have a lot more options to pick from when it comes to batteries
to buy and charge. You can use lead acid batteries, zinc air batteries, and many more. Plus using
electricity instead of gas is a lot cheaper. With time, gas powered cars will become extinct. Electric
cars will continue to

The Ideal Leader Of A Business Situation Essay
I am an ESTJ and some might say this personality is the ideal leader in a business situation,
according to 16 Personalities, (n.d.). ESTJs relish bringing people together and always work hard.
Additionally, ESTJs are model citizens and prefer to live in a factual, orderly world.
At work ESTJs are unperturbed by complicated tasks and with their great organizational skills
whittle down the most monumental tasks, making them appear to be easy. All the while, fulfilling
promises along the way. Moreover, ESTJs will not be caught with their heads in the clouds
dreaming, they live in a concrete world of today and have keen insight of tasks ahead. Aggressive
and demanding, ESTJs need to be mindful of others needs and not be over critical and too logical
when in tense emotionally charged situations.
The exact opposite of an ESTJ would be an INFP, which according to 16 Personalities, (n.d.) only
exists in 4% of the population. INFPs are purists and diplomatic with only the best of intentions and
are not motivated by rewards or punishment. This personality type is very symbolic and intuitive
and spawns many actors, writers and poets.
INFPs tend to have a close circle of friends and being so virtuous might lead to them to isolation
from others that cannot understand this idyllic motivation. INFPs will think on a higher plane than
an ESTJ which might cause irritation if the two work together, subsequently, the ESTJ might seek
to finish the task while the INFP is still looking for

chapter, Rodriguez discusses his early education and home life while introducing Hoggart s idea
of the Scholarship Boy. Growing up surrounded by his parents and siblings, Rodriguez was always
the odd one out; often times, he would be found locked in his closet or under his bed reading. His
parents, living vicariously through him, did everything they could to encourage him and his

Effectiveness And Sources Of Risk Of Viral Control And...
Assessing the effectiveness and sources of risk of viral control and prevention through wastewater
treatment from reservoirs and human waste. Introduction
Viruses are produce from infected individuals are spread through excretion into the waste water
system, leading to spread in wastewater. (Hewit et al. 2011) Viruses are responsible for the
majority of known drinking water outbreaks. (Blackburn et al. 2004; Liang et al. 2006; Yoder et
al. 2008). Good treatment for wastewater needs to be done in order to prevent the spread of these
viruses in order to minimize risks of epidemics. (Hewit et al. 2007) Furthermore, the risk for
human health also depends on the virus being spread. This is because, different viruses display

The concern is focused on the risks associated with its recreational purposes and risks associated
with waste water and the spread of zoonotic diseases. (Phelps et al. 2014;Yamamoto et al. 2010.).
For example, there has being avian flu outbreaks that were associated with nearby waterfowl
habitats contaminating the water with faeces. (Halvorson et al. 1989; Karunakaran et al. 1983).
Furthermore outbreaks of avian flu in reservoirs have been seen to spread through open water
from fields spreading into nearby water sources. (Hinshaw et al. 1979; Markwell and shortridge
1982) Also it has been considered a risk from carcasses of dead birds spreading the virus in the
water sources, however it has been considered to be unlikely that there will be a spread of H5N1
through this route. (Stallknecht et al. 2006) In order to detect risks such as this real time PCR is
used to detect the levels of the virus in water. (Yamamoto et al. 2010) From detection of the virus
risk management becomes another essential factor in mitigating the spread of contaminated
recreational water. )
Unfortunately, regular monitoring for the introduction of new viruses entering the water, such as
Hemorrhagic Septicemia Virus (HSV) is not considered feasible. Furthermore, prohibiting the
usage of lakes used for recreational and business purposes typically makes it harder to prevent the
use of recreational water. This results in an

Ballet Shot Analysis
Following this long shot we are shown a close up shot of Nina s foot, during this shot Nina is
practicing a fouettГ©. The purpose of this shot is to convey to the viewer how much pressure
Nina is placing on her body, in particular, her feet. A lot of ballet in danced en pointe (on the tip
of a person s toes), this sort of pressure can be detrimental to one s physical well being. A lot of
members in the audience will have prior knowledge of how painful and strenuous it can be to
place all of your body weight on just your toes, thus reinforcing to the audience the large amount of
pressure Nina is forcing upon herself.
The audience can also see the scuff marks on the floor, this effectively demonstrates just how
much time Nina dedicates to practicing at home. As an audience, we generally know from
personal experience and exposure that this is what wood looks like after it has been scratched
and used excessively. From this the audience is able to interpret the extent to which this area has
been used. Nina s extensive and obsessive practice schedule has placed so much pressure and
friction on the wood that her petite body was successful in wearing away the surface of the wood. ...

and how intense and prolonged these practices really are. This reaffirms the idea of obsession to the

Literary Analysis Of Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken
Brian Hornsby Professor Short ENG 102 14 December 2017 Analysis of Robert Frost s The
Road Not Taken The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost is a famous poem that many people are
familiar with. In the poem the speaker arrives at a fork in the road where both paths are strewn
with leaves. The speaker stands there for a time to contemplate which direction to take, and
finally decides to take the plunge on the one less traveled. He comforts himself with his decision
by telling himself that he can take the other road another day even though he knows this is
unlikely to happen. The poem concludes with the speaker s affirmation in his choice by
acknowledging the importance of his decision. Frost uses the image of two roads diverging in a
yellow wood to symbolize the choices that one is confronted with in life and the consequences
of making decisions. The poem s structure consists of four stanzas containing five lines. Each
line contains four stressed syllables making the poem iambic tetrameter. The rhyming scheme is
ABAAB throughout the poem until the final stanza where it is broken on the last line with the
final word difference . This change in convention makes the final line stand out and gives greater
impact to the ending. The first stanza conveys a mood of change and introduces the idea of a
life altering decision, which is the basis for the poem. The scene is set with the opening words,
Two roads diverged (line 1). The speaker is standing at a junction in the road pondering two
choices. The roads in the poem are merged where the speaker is standing but lead in two
different directions signifying two different paths in life. One begins to see the metaphorical
meaning as early as the first line with the reference to yellow wood (line 1). This suggests that
the setting happens during fall which is the season of change. The second line, sorry I could not
have traveled both (line 2) expresses the curiosity to explore several possibilities in life. It also
forms a sense of regret at not knowing what could lie ahead on the unchosen road and the speaker
s limitation to one lifetime. When the speaker says, And be one traveler (line 3), it is obvious that
it is not possible to travel down both paths. He

Christian Worldview Definition
A worldview is an intrinsic part of a person. It shapes who they are, what they believe, and how
they act. It is something that each person holds on to, and lets it shape themselves, their

My first day of college was kind of a blur but it was most certainly a very important one. I spent
my first semester of college at Central Michigan University, I arrived on the Friday before classes
started which is commonly known as Welcome Weekend around campus. Coming into it I really
didn t know what to expect from college, I was really nervous about meeting my roommates and
having to communicate with them. I had been friends with the same 6 people for the past 5
years and moving on into a new environment where I knew no one was pretty daunting. I live in
Livonia Michigan it s about 20 minutes out from Detroit, CMU is in Mount Pleasant just over 2
hours away. I was so sad to leave my friends that day I basically slept the whole way to Mount
Pleasant just so I wouldn t cry. When I arrived my parents and I along with some help from the
student volunteers unpacked my aunts minivan and moved into my home for next 9 months. I
was the first to arrive so I obviously chose the biggest room, I stayed in Trout hall on the north
side of campus. The way they had it set was 4 roommates in one dorm, each dorm had 2 bed rooms
and 1 bathroom as well as a common room. Different dorm halls had different rooming methods
but the one Trout used was pretty common on campus. Once I was all moved in and unpacked my
parents went out to grab me some groceries, I used this time to catch up with my friend Nick....

Outline Of Merchant Of Venice
The Merchant of Venice Essay Outline
Introduction:
Hook: The theme is the main subject or message of a story. It is used to give depth and enhance the
plot. Mercy triumphs over judgment (James 2:13)
Bridge: When you read The Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare there are many themes
throughout the play and many lessons to be learned.
Main Ideas: The most important themes are hatred, mercy and friendship because they have a
significant meaning and help advance the plot.
Thesis: The most important themes are hatred, mercy and friendship because they have a
significant meaning and help advance the plot.
Body Paragraph One:
Topic Sentence:One of the main themes of this play is hatred and prejudice .Throughout the play,
Shakespeare makes fun of other nationalities and religions.
Subpoint #1: Since the beginning of the play, you can tell that Shylock and Antonio strongly dislike
each other .
Example: I hate him for he is a Christian, But more for that in low simplicity He lends out money
gratis and brings down the rate of usance here with us in Venice. If I can catch him once upon the
hip,I will feed fat the ancient grudge I bear him. (Act 1 scene 3) Analysis: From this quote, we learn
that Shylock hates Antonio for being a Christian and for lending money with no interest. Antonio
hates Shylock for being Jewish. Both of them have grudges against each other and they want to get
revenge. You can tell from this quote that back in those times, Jewish people weren t treated right.
Subpoint #2: another example of prejudice in this play is when Portia rejects the Prince of
Morocco. Even though she doesn t know him she judged him for his skin color. Example: If I
could bid the fifth welcome with so good heart as I can bid the other four farewell, I should be glad
of his approach. If he have the condition of a saint and the complexion of a devil, I had rather he
should shrive me than wive me. (Act 1 scene 2)
Analysis:In this quote, she is saying that even if he were a saint she would never marry him
because he has dark skin.
Paragraph Conclusion: In the end, William Shakespeare seems biased towards people of different
races and religions by using stereotypes and discrimination.

The Importance Of Habitat For Humanity
For over a year now, I have heard the same slogan over and over, Let s Make America Great
Again . This has been the ongoing slogan for Trump throughout his campaign for president but I
haven t really seen anything that has been made great. Have you ever just stopped and looked
around, and seen everything around you? Seeing people holding up signs at intersections, grocery
stores, asking for help with food, gas or shelter. Have you seen the news lately talking about the
weather, particularly the storms, employment rate and the crime rate? This is the main topic that I
am going to talk about in my paper. We as a human race need to come together and work as one

Why Are Great Italian Renaissance Architects More Famous...
Why are great Italian Renaissance architects more famous than their great Gothic predecessors?
Discuss how and why the role and image of the architect changed during the Italian Renaissance.
The Renaissance is studded by the names of the artists and architects, with their creations recorded
as great historical events. Arthur Erickson
The end of the 14th century was the birth of Renaissance, which meant that Gothic architecture
began to wear off. The Renaissance period spread out across Europe. Along with the changes in
politics, beliefs, and ways of life, architecture and architects were also changing. A group of Italian
academics, some of whom were amateur architects, influenced the birth of Renaissance architecture.
Many renaissance buildings have murals and statues because artists and architects started working

The architects of this period solved the problems of heavy roof with few brilliant innovations such
as the flying buttress (a semi arch), piers, etc. The result was amazing: cathedrals could be higher,
thinner, and could have more windows, which led to brighter interiors. In my opinion, this was a
good base to start producing something more magnificent, more interesting, and other types of
architecture, besides just cathedrals.
Architects of the Renaissance period designed a large spectrum of civil structures like palaces,
libraries, villas, fountains, hospitals, bridges, etc. They built urban spaces which looked
magnificent and also a little frightening. The facade gives us a hint of what is happening inside: an
enormous central door indicates power, stonework shows strength, marble shows wealth, and so
on. One of the most recognizable features of Renaissance buildings is elegant interior courtyards
surrounded by two tiers of rounded arcades. One such example of a Renaissance building is the
Florence cathedral, designed by Filippo

The Twisted Hero In Our Twisted Hero By Yi Munyol
I used to be a shy and reserved girl when I was younger. My parents wanted me to open up and
have good social skills for the future, so they decided to sign me up for a team sport. I was not
really up for this idea since I did not like change, but they signed me up for softball against my
will. Before my first practice, butterflies were not only fluttering, but it seemed as though they
were fighting in my stomach. I went to meet the coach and the rest of the team. All the girls
were silent since none of us knew each other. Towards the end of the practice, the coach was
yelling at us and telling us that we were inferior. All the other team members were mad at the
coach and this got us talking. Every chance we had, we would complain to each other about the
coach s deceptive façade. Soon enough, talk about our coach died down and we started chatting
about other things like school and personal hobbies. In hindsight, my softball experience was a
blessing in disguise. My first coach was pretty twisted, in the sense that he always yelled at us, but
I will believe it made us better and he will always be an unsung hero to me. Our Twisted Heroby Yi
Munyolillustrates that there are many interpretations on how a twisted hero can be defined and
what characteristics he has. The word twisted is often associated with many negative meanings
like sick, evil, or even gnarled. The denotation of a twisted hero is a leader who is not necessarily

Strengthening Of The Corporate Criminal Justice System
Introduction
A recent debate has centred on the issue of strengthening companies liabilities for their illegal
conducts. To prevent tax evasion, banks and foreign dodgers meet strict liability criminal penalties
(Wintour 2015). Treanor (2014) reports that if banks fail, new criminal responsibilities will be held
by bankers. Accordingly the Curzon and Richards (2007), corporate liability is the extension of
liability for the commission of offenses to companies . Gooch and Williams (2015) define the
corporate crime as the acts or omissions of a company . Corporate criminal liability is the liability
imposed upon a corporation for any criminal act done by any natural person (US legal website [no

Personal Narrative Techniques Used In My Writing
I chose to submit this narrative due to the risks I took and the strong sense of tone and mood
that were evident in my piece. I expanded out of my comfort zone by using a lead that I wouldn t
typically gravitate towards. More often than not, I choose to use Imagery as my way of hooking
the reader. With this piece however, I chose to start from the end and I was very pleased with the
outcome. I liked that it was different, and really left the reader with a sense of suspense which made
them want to continue. The most challenging aspect of the narrative writingprocess for me was
definitely creating this hook, and that is partly why I was so drawn to this piece. I struggled in the
beginning of the unit to make a hook that would ultimately add... Show more content on

Several people, including two peer editors and a teacher I conferenced with, were able to
correctly identify the tone and mood I was trying to convey in my piece, being nervous and
excitement.. I tried to set this tone using literary devices such as imagery (sensory language),
dialogue, and thoughts. The most prominent device however, would undoubtedly be imagery. I
feel as though the language and use of the senses in my piece really helped get the mood across.
An example of this can be seen when I wrote, My heart started to pound in my chest, a constant
and unyielding kick that threatened to burst at any moment. This feeling is often associated with
fear, but this wasn t fear, it was something different and exciting all together. It was happiness.
Pure happiness that overjoyed me and filled me to the brim with this warm and exhilarating hum.
I used words like exhilarating to show what a rush I was having, and the pounding in my chest to
translate into how the reader felt experiencing my piece. I included this because right from the get

Analysis Of Gorman Beauchamp s Article, Technology
In Gorman Beauchamp s article, Technology in the Dystopian Novel, he writes: collectivism and
technology, that is, are mutually exclusive (56). Collectivism is defined as: the practice or
principle of giving a group priority over each individual in it. This idea is incredibly relevant in
today s society. Our world, because of modern technology, has become incredibly individualistic.
Cell phones, personal computers, tablets, and other personal technological devices have all been
created with the intent to improve communication and connecting individuals in a much easier
fashion. Devices are customized to the individual making it more in sync with the individual. While
these devices have contributed overall in creating a more globalized world, individual cultures,
especially in the United States, no longer have the group priority Beauchamp was referring to. This
becomes extremely apparent in the youth of today s societies. Distractions from cell phones
continually disrupt the cohesion in the classroom, playground, and in the homes. Because of the
frequency of use on these personal devices, interpersonal communication is greatly hindered.
Interpersonal skills are important for a culture to thrive and to be successful. It is unknown what
kind of effects technology will have in the long run towards face to face communications and
interpersonal relationships. The sciencefiction book series, Divergent, has an interesting solution for
what happens when societies let technology

Education Is An Integral Part Of A Child s Upbringing
Academia Education
Academia education is considered an integral part of a child s upbringing, and therefore it remains
highly important to require academic institutions to educate and inform students regarding
substance use and its consequences. SAMHSA recommends instituting programs at an early age,
for example, the Good Behavior Game introduced in elementary schools, is a management strategy
aimed at reducing aggressive, disruptive classroom behavior, a risk factor for adolescent and illicit
drug abuse (SAMHSA, 2016). Similarly the focus group participants mentioned that Academia
Education from K 12 grade needs to incorporate evidence based programs in the academic

Reflection On Conflict Resolution
Conflict Resolution Reflection Conflict is inevitable and occurs all around us all the time.
Conflict is not about whether something is good or bad, but what is important is how we deal
with this conflict. There are many types of conflict and one prominent conflict that I remember in
my life is an intragroup conflict. This was in grade 10, when I and three others were working on a
Business ED project. The conflict was that I had a really good ideaand I was expressing my opinion,
but my groupmates were not listening and kept constantly interrupting or calling my idea stupid.
This led to a buildup of a lot of tension between us and therefore affected our teamwork as we
ended up not working efficiently towards our goal of a good mark. The resolutionstyle I used for
this particular conflict was avoidance. This is because eventually, I just let my idea go and just
did as the other people in my group said and suppressed my own opinions. This conflict was left
unresolved and resulted in us getting a lower mark than expected in the project. At this point, I
was thinking of just submitting to their wants and letting my opinions get put to the side.
Although I did not act like I was angry on the outside, like most other avoiding individuals, I
built up my anger by not releasing it, which in the end just went away. Also, I became less verbal
and let the other three lead rather than taking an active role in this project. One advantage of
avoiding a conflict is that for a short term, it allows us to delay solving and facing the issue,
giving us time to think about solutions. Another advantage is that individuals that avoid conflict
tend to help calm the atmosphere down and realize that the conflict will most likely resolve itself,
which was also what I believed for my conflict. However, this tends to make these individuals
deny and avoid the conflict entirely, sometimes making it even worse. Also, avoiding a conflict
leads to the opinions and needs of those individuals get suppressed, which also happened to me.
Avoiding this conflict led the situation to never get resolved, and because of this, I still do not
really talk to those individuals. So, for this intragroup conflict scenario, I used the conflict resolution

What Is Aeneas Carrying Anchises
These three works of art I have chosen is a painted vase called Aeneas carries Anchises , a coin
called Aeneas carrying Anchises on left shoulder , and lastly an etching called Aeneas carrying
Anchises. All three of these works are very similar when it comes to the theme. The theme is
obviously the Greek and Roman myth of Aeneascarrying his father, Anchises, on his back.
Although the theme is the same on all works of art, there are some minor details that set these
figures apart. The first work of art pictured (figure 1), is the vase of Aeneas carries Anchises that
was made in the 5th century of BCE. In this work of art Aeneas is fully equipped in armor and
weapons. He is built strong and sturdy and seems to have no trouble carrying his father on his
back. Anchises is also holding a weapon of some sort, only holding on to Aeneas with one arm.
Both Aeneas and Anchises are painted to be strong and ready for battle. Many works of art
focusing on this particular theme are not depicted this way.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This was done in 47 BCE. The coin shows Aeneas as the biggest figure among the three figures
shown. On Aeneas back is his father, Anchises, and in Aeneas right hand is his son, Ascanius.
Aeneas is portrayed as stout and muscular in this artwork but unlike figure 1, he is almost
completely unclothed. Another difference between figure 1 and 2 is Aeneas holding the
Household of Gods and in figure 1 Anchises is holding the Household of Gods. Anchises is
clothed but has no armor and seems to be grasping Aeneas with both arms. This goes to show how
much more dependent Anchises is on Aeneas to carry him from the burning city of Troy compared

  • 2. The Red Umbrella In addition to stereotyping other cultures, low context and high context cultures was also a topic addressed in the book and in class. As it is represented in The Joy Luck Club, The Red Umbrella also shows a difference or clash between low context and high context cultures. There can be difficulties when one from a high context culturebegins to live in a low context culture setting. These difficulties are addressed in The Red Umbrella and The Joy Luck Club. The first example of a transition from a high context to a low context culture is addressed in The Red Umbrella. Lucia s mother never allowed Lucia to cut her hair short, and she respected this rule. In the book she provides this example when her adoptive mother, Mrs. Baxter, offered to cut her hair. Lucia states She... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then, coming after, Lucia had just gotten off the phone with her mother, who was informing her not to grow up too fast, meaning, not to wear her skirts too short, no makeup, and no highheels. Lucia could not take this prevention of growing up anymore. Addressing Mrs. Baxter, Lucia declared I want you to cut my hair...short. Really short (Gonzalez 193). The two quotes presented are ideal examples of an individual, from a high context culture, being raised by one of a low context culture. Mrs. Baxter, unlike Lucia s mother, cut Lucia s hair for her instead of denying her wishes. A second example of transitioning from a high context culture to a low context culture includes the specific bonds between a mother and her daughter. The reading, titled High context Cultures and Low Context Cultures, addressed in class, explains the distinct differences between the two cultures. When presenting information about high context cultures, the reading informs The bonds among people are very strong in a high context culture ( Unknown 1). The close bond among individuals can be lossed due to the different beliefs between one born in a low context culture and one born in a high context ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The People Have Made Outstanding Progress On Their Goal Essay Over the Rainbow Twenty four year old Daniel Zamudio was walking through a park in Santiago, Chile, when four men appeared and began to burn Daniel with cigarettes and beat him with rocks and glass bottles, injuring him in various ways (Saul). The men used the broken glass to cut off a part of his ear, as well as, cut swastikas into his skin because Zumudio was gay (Saul). Less than a month later, Daniel Zamudio passed away due to this violent hate crime (Saul). Although only few instances of homophobic crimes are reported, FBI statistics show that attacks on the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual, ally, and pansexual (LGBT+) community, such as the Orlando gay nightclub shooting, are one of the common occurrences, right behind racial attacks (Saul). LGBT people have made outstanding progress on their goal to reach equality. For example, same sex couples now have the right to adopt children in all the states of America and thanks to President Obama, federal workers cannot be discriminated upon sexual orientation or gender identity (Clinton). Although the LGBT community has civil rights that should be protected, due to society s narrow mindedness, the LGBT+ community gets treated as second class citizens. Education is an important factor in life in order to thrive, but LGBT students face harassment in school due to their identity. According to a Human Rights report conducted in 2001, two million American students in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Summary Of The Good The Bad And The Daily Show By Jason... Today, there are two central types of research. First hand research is research that is conducted by the individual themselves such as experiments, interviews, surveys etc. Second hand research is information that one gets by studying various texts that has been supplied and complied by others such as websites, periodicals, and books. No matter what type of sources are employed into an academic essay, they must be reliable. To put it simply, ones sources must all be accurate, trustworthy and reliable. Jason Zinser s article, The Good, the Bad, and The Daily Show would prove to be a reliable and useful source for an academic researchpaper when looking at how Zinser utilized his sources, audience and his authority as a writer to demonstrate his credibility. The credibility of an author is very important in determining the quality of sources you have located and are thinking of using for your research project. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 7. Once More To The Lake Analysis Once More To The Lake by E.B White features stylistic and rhetorical strategies such as literary tone and flashbacks. Through the use of White s flashbacks to his earlier childhood at the lake, the literary tone of nostalgia and reminiscent sentiment is set. The nostalgic attitude of the work contributes to the heartfelt tone of the piece as White transports the audience to a meaningful time in his life. Furthermore, the use of the various flashbacks helps White relate his childhood to his child, creating a parallel between White and his father, when he was his childs age. Through this sentimental tone, the overall meaning of the work is created as it displays how time does not change memories, even if time has changed the present day. Together, these stylistic choices affect the audience s reactions as the reader is able to identify how the lake represents the authors unfading and untouchable memories of his younger days. White s purpose for writing this piece was to describe how memories can not be changed despite how time changes everything around it. This can be seen when the author states that the middle road in the dusty field was gone, leaving two roads. Despite this change, the author states that the way led past the tennis court, and ... With this, the audience of the piece was anyone who read Harper s Magazine and had an interest in White s autobiographical piece about Maine and his time at the Belgrade Lake. Furthermore, the piece was written during World War II, and highlights a better time in America s history, where there was no war and kids could be run free without the worries of an ongoing war. It can be seen that despite the anxiety of war, memories of the past remain tender, and remind the audience that time passes continuously, but fond memories will unfailingly be ... • 9. Wasteland Vik Munniz Wasteland is an inspiring, strong, awakening documentary about a fine artist named Vik Muniz. The documentary is directed by Lucy Walker, and filmed in the largest landfill in the world located in Rio De Janero, Brazil. It is based around the lives of several hard working garbage pickers who desperately want to change the world by recycling. They are known as children s fantasy literature, and have found favor in older students and adults alike, even many Christian theologians enjoy these stories from Lewis; for there are many spiritual truths that one can gleam from them, if familiar with the Bible. However, having said this, it is noteworthy to say that Lewis did not scribe these Chronicles for allegorical didactics of the Christian faith, but wrote them in such a well knit fashion that young readers might understand Christian doctrine through captivating fantasy and thus gain an appreciation for it. With this in mind, and in the interest of this assignment, the purpose of this paper is an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This temptation of power is very like the story of Jesus being tempted by Satan in the desert. Satan, like the Witch, tempts Jesus with power in exchange for service (Matt 4:8 9). In addition to yielding to these various temptations, Edmund also agrees not to reveal his knowledge of the Witch to his siblings and consequentially ends up lying to them about his discovery of Narnia. By doing this, Edmund fulfills the antithesis of New Testament virtues of a good Christian in face of temptation. Lewis artfully interlaces these Biblical themes of temptation into the character of Edmund. However, Edmund s character is allegorical to the Biblical character of Judas, the betrayer. Edmund betrays his siblings and the Beavers by going to seek the White Witch. All he could think about were his earthly desires and wants Turkish Delight, and the thought of being a prince. Comparing a mere child to Judas, however, is a very serious allegory for a children s novel. So, Lewis creates the idea of the Witch giving Edmund enchanted Turkish Delight. By making Edmund s cravings for Turkish Delight the fault of the Witch and not his own, Lewis alleviates some of the force of Edmund s offense. Once again, taking biblical imagery and softening it to appeal to a young audience; and in the end of course, Edmund is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The R V. Dudley And Stephens Case Essay The R v. Dudley and Stephens case occurred in 1884. In May of that year, four men left Southampton, England for Australia on the Mignonette, a private sailing yacht. These men were Captain Thomas Dudley (31), mate Edward Stephens (36), seaman Edmond Brooks (38), and cabin boy Richard Parker (17). While crossing the South Atlantic near the Cape of Good Hope in July, bad weather struck the yacht and it sunk. The men managed to escape into the lifeboat, and two one pound tins of turnips were the only food they subsisted on for four days. They caught a small turtle on the fourth day that lasted eight days, and were without food for another eight days after. The only fresh water they had was the rain that came from time to time. On the sixteenth day of drifting Richard Parker became ill from drinking seawater. On the eighteenth day Dudley and Stephens approached Brooks with the idea that they should sacrifice one person to save the rest. Brooks dissented, and they did not consult Parker as he was ill. On July 24th Dudley and Stephens reasoned with Brooks, saying that since they had families to take care of it was most logical to kill the boy and save themselves. They proposed that if there were no vessels in sight the next day they would kill Parker. As there were no vessels, Dudley killed Parker by slitting his throat; the boy was so ill he did not resist. Brooks dissented until Parker s death, but also fed on the blood and flesh of Parker with the two accused for four days. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During the uncontrolled riots on that traumatic night, over 100 Jewslost their lives, there was more than 30,000 Jews arrested and sent to jails or concentration camps, 2,000 Jewish community buildings and synagogues were destroyed, and over 7,500 Jewish stores were looted (Schwartz 50). There was nothing left for the Jews, everything was destroyed. This was the first time Jews realized the severity of their situation and knew they had to start taking measures to ensure their family s safety. On the verge of WWII 10,000 Jewish children left their homes, their families, and their childhoods behind. On November 21st 1938 British Parliament took action by allowing Jewish children from Germany to come to England. Members of the British Parliament wanted to take action because they were horrified by the Nazis actions. They wanted to help the Jews, but many concerns arose from the citizens. Citizens were worried the mass income of refugees would hurt the economy, take jobs, and require public support (Holtman 107). Trade agreements facilitate the free exchange of goods and services between nation states, and contribute to varying degrees to complete economic integration between two or more states. Autarky refers to a non trading status, a phenomenon rarely seen in today s increasingly integrated globe. The steps taken to fully integrate are referred to as stages, a categorization that makes evident the variability in degree of integration. At the first stage, a preferential trade area can be set up as a less formal means of encouraging trade by enacting preferential tariffs to target specific countries exports (usually developing countries), in addition to other unilateral trade benefits. NAFTA was signed on December 8, 1993 by the Clinton administration, and the agreement went into effect on January 1, 1994. NAFTA has significantly increased trade between the three countries. This agreement has increased exports for all countries, while making imports cheaper. For example, the US accounts for 50% of Mexico s imports, and it accounts for 51% of Canada s imports. The effects of NAFTA on the US economy were smaller than predicted, and its effect is hard to separate from the general boom of the US economy during the 1990s and early 2000s. While many jobs were created during this period, some critics argue that job creation and economic growth would have been even greater without NAFTA. Many economists have done studies to quantify the welfare effects of NAFTA on its member states. One 2015 study estimated the welfare effect of NAFTA on its member states. It found a welfare increase of 1.31% in Mexico, an increase of 0.08% in the US, and a welfare decrease of 0.06% in Canada. The Importance Of Communication And Communication In 2008, the World Health Organization estimated that as many as one in ten patients are harmed while receiving care (Armellino, Griffin, Fitzpatrick 2010, p.796). This demonstrates the substantial potential for improvement. Finkelman (2016) mentions that a code of silence exists because in the past people are quick to blame the person who made the mistake, over looking all the steps in the system that precipitated that error. This malignant silence disrupts a true and just safetyculture from improving patient outcomes. The ideal safety culture in healthcare should focus on the big picture of healthcare as a system by empowering staff to raise concerns. With these shared experiences, a dialogue can be created among staff and management to develop plans that improvepatient safety. Multiple studies correlate that harm and poor patient outcomes are a result of lacking patient safety (DiCuccio, 2015). A successful patient safety culture requires responsibility of the team to increase staff awareness focusing on education in topics of quality care and error reporting. Why the silence exists is complex and the explanations may vary between units and between hospitals. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has developed a hospital survey on patient safety culture. Salmon was not just food, but central to their religion, their diet, and their overall way of life. Salmon are the cornerstone of their culture (Harling, 2006). The loss of this abundant natural resource must be seen not only as degrading the health of the river ecosystem, but also as severely impacting the health of the tribes. She finds that in order to be successful as a writer, you have to be fully committed, and ready to fully dedicate your life to your craft. Dillard models these ideas with a story about a moth that flew into a candle and burnt; becoming a second wick. If only he knew that wireless telegraph will become a thing of the past. The first effective radio communication system was developed by Guglielmo Marconi, an Italian inventor, and scientist (Guglielmo Marconi Biography, n.d.). Marconi never had any formal scientific education (Bababian, 1992), but has been the recipient of honorary doctorates of several universities (Guglielmo Marconi Biographical, 2013, para. 8). • 29. The Electric Drive Revolution And Electric Cars Capstone Introduction Paragraph The electric drive revolution will become accepted and advance over time, just like computers and cell phones have over the last few days (anonymous). Electric cars have been around for many years. But they just started coming back around in the 21st century. Before anyone who had charging stations they would have to switch out their battery for their electric car whenever it ran out. The electric cars were created to basically compete with gas powered cars. They were also created to reduce the pollution created by gas cars. Countries all over the world have started to create more and more electric cars. In fact, in this exact moment Japan already has more charging stations than gas stations which could possibly mean that they already have more electric cars than gas cars. The first electric car was created in the early 1900 s by Thomas Edison. People are only starting to go back to electric cars because charging stations were invented. With charging stations in place now people won t have to rely on gas stations and gas powered cars, they will only rely on the more environment friendly charging stations and electric cars. Also with electric cars you have a lot more options to pick from when it comes to batteries to buy and charge. You can use lead acid batteries, zinc air batteries, and many more. • 30. The Ideal Leader Of A Business Situation Essay I am an ESTJ and some might say this personality is the ideal leader in a business situation, according to 16 Personalities, (n.d.). ESTJs relish bringing people together and always work hard. Additionally, ESTJs are model citizens and prefer to live in a factual, orderly world. At work ESTJs are unperturbed by complicated tasks and with their great organizational skills whittle down the most monumental tasks, making them appear to be easy. All the while, fulfilling promises along the way. Moreover, ESTJs will not be caught with their heads in the clouds dreaming, they live in a concrete world of today and have keen insight of tasks ahead. Aggressive and demanding, ESTJs need to be mindful of others needs and not be over critical and too logical when in tense emotionally charged situations. The exact opposite of an ESTJ would be an INFP, which according to 16 Personalities, (n.d.) only exists in 4% of the population. INFPs are purists and diplomatic with only the best of intentions and are not motivated by rewards or punishment. This personality type is very symbolic and intuitive and spawns many actors, writers and poets. INFPs tend to have a close circle of friends and being so virtuous might lead to them to isolation from others that cannot understand this idyllic motivation. INFPs will think on a higher plane than an ESTJ which might cause irritation if the two work together, subsequently, the ESTJ might seek to finish the task while the INFP is still looking for ... Analysis Of The Hunger Of Memory By Richard Rodriguez The Hunger of Memory was written as an autobiography by Richard Rodriguez, and with any success story, there is much more than what meets the eye. Throughout the first section of this chapter, Rodriguez discusses his early education and home life while introducing Hoggart s idea of the Scholarship Boy. Growing up surrounded by his parents and siblings, Rodriguez was always the odd one out; often times, he would be found locked in his closet or under his bed reading. His parents, living vicariously through him, did everything they could to encourage him and his studies, yet Rodriguez continued to grow resentful and embarrassed of them. By enrolling him into excellent schools, both public and private, Rodriguez could perfect his grammar while continuing to indulge in his reading and writing.... It was at this time that his parents finally expressed their frustrations as well, suggesting that local colleges aren t good enough for Rodriguez. Assessing the effectiveness and sources of risk of viral control and prevention through wastewater treatment from reservoirs and human waste. Introduction Viruses are produce from infected individuals are spread through excretion into the waste water system, leading to spread in wastewater. (Hewit et al. 2011) Viruses are responsible for the majority of known drinking water outbreaks. (Blackburn et al. 2004; Liang et al. 2006; Yoder et al. 2008). Good treatment for wastewater needs to be done in order to prevent the spread of these viruses in order to minimize risks of epidemics. (Halvorson et al. 1989; Karunakaran et al. 1983). Furthermore outbreaks of avian flu in reservoirs have been seen to spread through open water from fields spreading into nearby water sources. (Hinshaw et al. 1979; Markwell and shortridge 1982) Also it has been considered a risk from carcasses of dead birds spreading the virus in the water sources, however it has been considered to be unlikely that there will be a spread of H5N1 through this route. (Stallknecht et al. 2006) In order to detect risks such as this real time PCR is used to detect the levels of the virus in water. (Yamamoto et al. 2010) From detection of the virus risk management becomes another essential factor in mitigating the spread of contaminated recreational water. ) Unfortunately, regular monitoring for the introduction of new viruses entering the water, such as Hemorrhagic Septicemia Virus (HSV) is not considered feasible. The purpose of this shot is to convey to the viewer how much pressure Nina is placing on her body, in particular, her feet. A lot of ballet in danced en pointe (on the tip of a person s toes), this sort of pressure can be detrimental to one s physical well being. A lot of members in the audience will have prior knowledge of how painful and strenuous it can be to place all of your body weight on just your toes, thus reinforcing to the audience the large amount of pressure Nina is forcing upon herself. The audience can also see the scuff marks on the floor, this effectively demonstrates just how much time Nina dedicates to practicing at home. As an audience, we generally know from personal experience and exposure that this is what wood looks like after it has been scratched and used excessively. • 37. Literary Analysis Of Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken Brian Hornsby Professor Short ENG 102 14 December 2017 Analysis of Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost is a famous poem that many people are familiar with. In the poem the speaker arrives at a fork in the road where both paths are strewn with leaves. The speaker stands there for a time to contemplate which direction to take, and finally decides to take the plunge on the one less traveled. He comforts himself with his decision by telling himself that he can take the other road another day even though he knows this is unlikely to happen. The poem concludes with the speaker s affirmation in his choice by acknowledging the importance of his decision. Frost uses the image of two roads diverging in a yellow wood to symbolize the choices that one is confronted with in life and the consequences of making decisions. The poem s structure consists of four stanzas containing five lines. Each line contains four stressed syllables making the poem iambic tetrameter. The rhyming scheme is ABAAB throughout the poem until the final stanza where it is broken on the last line with the final word difference . This change in convention makes the final line stand out and gives greater impact to the ending. The first stanza conveys a mood of change and introduces the idea of a life altering decision, which is the basis for the poem. The scene is set with the opening words, Two roads diverged (line 1). The speaker is standing at a junction in the road pondering two choices. The roads in the poem are merged where the speaker is standing but lead in two different directions signifying two different paths in life. One begins to see the metaphorical meaning as early as the first line with the reference to yellow wood (line 1). This suggests that the setting happens during fall which is the season of change. The second line, sorry I could not have traveled both (line 2) expresses the curiosity to explore several possibilities in life. It also forms a sense of regret at not knowing what could lie ahead on the unchosen road and the speaker s limitation to one lifetime. When the speaker says, And be one traveler (line 3), it is obvious that it is not possible to travel down both paths. He ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. Strengthening Of The Corporate Criminal Justice System Introduction A recent debate has centred on the issue of strengthening companies liabilities for their illegal conducts. • 50. Personal Narrative Techniques Used In My Writing I chose to submit this narrative due to the risks I took and the strong sense of tone and mood that were evident in my piece. I expanded out of my comfort zone by using a lead that I wouldn t typically gravitate towards. More often than not, I choose to use Imagery as my way of hooking the reader. With this piece however, I chose to start from the end and I was very pleased with the outcome. I liked that it was different, and really left the reader with a sense of suspense which made them want to continue. The most challenging aspect of the narrative writingprocess for me was definitely creating this hook, and that is partly why I was so drawn to this piece. I struggled in the beginning of the unit to make a hook that would ultimately add... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Several people, including two peer editors and a teacher I conferenced with, were able to correctly identify the tone and mood I was trying to convey in my piece, being nervous and excitement.. I tried to set this tone using literary devices such as imagery (sensory language), dialogue, and thoughts. The most prominent device however, would undoubtedly be imagery. I feel as though the language and use of the senses in my piece really helped get the mood across. An example of this can be seen when I wrote, My heart started to pound in my chest, a constant and unyielding kick that threatened to burst at any moment. This feeling is often associated with fear, but this wasn t fear, it was something different and exciting all together. It was happiness. Pure happiness that overjoyed me and filled me to the brim with this warm and exhilarating hum. I used words like exhilarating to show what a rush I was having, and the pounding in my chest to translate into how the reader felt experiencing my piece. I included this because right from the get go I wanted the reader to know that the overall mood would be a mix of nerves and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Analysis Of Gorman Beauchamp s Article, Technology In Gorman Beauchamp s article, Technology in the Dystopian Novel, he writes: collectivism and technology, that is, are mutually exclusive (56). Collectivism is defined as: the practice or principle of giving a group priority over each individual in it. This idea is incredibly relevant in today s society. Our world, because of modern technology, has become incredibly individualistic. Cell phones, personal computers, tablets, and other personal technological devices have all been created with the intent to improve communication and connecting individuals in a much easier fashion. Devices are customized to the individual making it more in sync with the individual. While these devices have contributed overall in creating a more globalized world, individual cultures, especially in the United States, no longer have the group priority Beauchamp was referring to. This becomes extremely apparent in the youth of today s societies. Distractions from cell phones continually disrupt the cohesion in the classroom, playground, and in the homes. Because of the frequency of use on these personal devices, interpersonal communication is greatly hindered. Interpersonal skills are important for a culture to thrive and to be successful. It is unknown what kind of effects technology will have in the long run towards face to face communications and interpersonal relationships. The sciencefiction book series, Divergent, has an interesting solution for what happens when societies let technology ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 54. Reflection On Conflict Resolution Conflict Resolution Reflection Conflict is inevitable and occurs all around us all the time. Conflict is not about whether something is good or bad, but what is important is how we deal with this conflict. There are many types of conflict and one prominent conflict that I remember in my life is an intragroup conflict. This was in grade 10, when I and three others were working on a Business ED project. The conflict was that I had a really good ideaand I was expressing my opinion, but my groupmates were not listening and kept constantly interrupting or calling my idea stupid. This led to a buildup of a lot of tension between us and therefore affected our teamwork as we ended up not working efficiently towards our goal of a good mark. The resolutionstyle I used for this particular conflict was avoidance. This is because eventually, I just let my idea go and just did as the other people in my group said and suppressed my own opinions. This conflict was left unresolved and resulted in us getting a lower mark than expected in the project. At this point, I was thinking of just submitting to their wants and letting my opinions get put to the side. Although I did not act like I was angry on the outside, like most other avoiding individuals, I built up my anger by not releasing it, which in the end just went away. Also, I became less verbal and let the other three lead rather than taking an active role in this project. One advantage of avoiding a conflict is that for a short term, it allows us to delay solving and facing the issue, giving us time to think about solutions. Another advantage is that individuals that avoid conflict tend to help calm the atmosphere down and realize that the conflict will most likely resolve itself, which was also what I believed for my conflict. However, this tends to make these individuals deny and avoid the conflict entirely, sometimes making it even worse. Also, avoiding a conflict leads to the opinions and needs of those individuals get suppressed, which also happened to me. Avoiding this conflict led the situation to never get resolved, and because of this, I still do not really talk to those individuals. So, for this intragroup conflict scenario, I used the conflict resolution ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. What Is Aeneas Carrying Anchises These three works of art I have chosen is a painted vase called Aeneas carries Anchises , a coin called Aeneas carrying Anchises on left shoulder , and lastly an etching called Aeneas carrying Anchises. All three of these works are very similar when it comes to the theme. The theme is obviously the Greek and Roman myth of Aeneascarrying his father, Anchises, on his back. Although the theme is the same on all works of art, there are some minor details that set these figures apart. The first work of art pictured (figure 1), is the vase of Aeneas carries Anchises that was made in the 5th century of BCE. In this work of art Aeneas is fully equipped in armor and weapons. He is built strong and sturdy and seems to have no trouble carrying his father on his back. Anchises is also holding a weapon of some sort, only holding on to Aeneas with one arm. Both Aeneas and Anchises are painted to be strong and ready for battle. Many works of art focusing on this particular theme are not depicted this way.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was done in 47 BCE. The coin shows Aeneas as the biggest figure among the three figures shown. On Aeneas back is his father, Anchises, and in Aeneas right hand is his son, Ascanius. Aeneas is portrayed as stout and muscular in this artwork but unlike figure 1, he is almost completely unclothed. Another difference between figure 1 and 2 is Aeneas holding the Household of Gods and in figure 1 Anchises is holding the Household of Gods. Anchises is clothed but has no armor and seems to be grasping Aeneas with both arms. This goes to show how much more dependent Anchises is on Aeneas to carry him from the burning city of Troy compared to figure ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
