The Gender Difference Between Rumination and Reflection
Gender difference between Rumination and Reflection
Abstract
This study examined the gender differences between rumination and reflection. Undergraduate
psychology students (251 women with the mean age 22.08 and 94 men with the mean age 22.64)
were each given a questionnaire to fill out as part of their course requirement. The aim of the
study was to examine if there were differences in coping styles between men and women. The
hypothesis women would use rumination more as a coping strategy and that men would use
reflection more often. The results supported the hypothesis that women tend to use rumination
more so than men. Contrary to expectations that men would use reflection ... Show more content on

Thayer s et al ., replica study used the 22 item version of the
Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) to measure the students depressive symptoms.
Thayer, Rossy, Ruiz Padial and Johnsen (2003) , also used the Trait Meta Mood Scale (TMMS)
Solovey et al., (1995, as cited in Thayer et al., 2003) which measures emotional regulation.
3
The TMMS is a 30 item self report measure that is designed to measure participants beliefs
about their emotional regulation strategies ( Thayer et al.,).
As was expected by Thayer, Rossy, Ruiz Padial and Johnsen (2003), women reported more
depression, sadness, guilt, blame and tiredness. On the TMMS women scored higher then men,
showing that women give more attention to their moods and feelings.
In further studies conducted by Nolen Hoeksema and Jackson (2001), it was predicted that
there would be gender differences between men and women who believed that their emotions
were uncontrollable and that they would more likely engage in rumination. Nolen Hoeksema
and Jackson also predicted that men and women as a group would be more likely than men as a
group to have beliefs that centred around societies views that women are more emotionally
labile and have less control over their emotions Fabes amp; Martin (1991, as cited in Nolen
Hoeksema amp; Jackson 2001) . Nolen Hoeksema and Jackson hypothesised that

Minimum Wage Impact
The Impact of Minimum Wage on the Economy In the 20th century, was the first time that the United
States created the minimum wage and would influence world wide economies. Since then, this
economic system has been a controversial topic all over the world between the workers and
employers. Historically, we can analyze the positive and negative effects of raising the minimum
wage. Moreover, literature researchers have also analyzed the impact of the minimum wage on the
economy on social, economic, and professional aspects. Therefore, the following literature reviews
will discuss these aspects which are fast food unionization, the grocery stores wage distribution, low
wage work in five European countries and the USA, minimum wages reduce employment
possibilities, inequality trends, the consequences of doubling the minimum wage, employment effects
of minimum and subminimum wages, certifying voluntary living wage employers, minimum wage
and Mexican and Central American influx, and collective bargaining. First, the fast food industry is
one of many factors that is impacted by the minimum wage. Matter of fact, the fast food workers
demanded that the minimum wage is raised to $15 since the average wage for workers is $8.94 and
this does not include wage theft, such as no overtime pay, not receiving proper break times, and
missing hours from the paychecks. Additionally, low wages bring down collective action among the
workers, the workers hours are never guaranteed and are sent

A Relationship Between Democracy And Making The World A...
Is there a relationship between democracy and making the world a more peaceful place? With the
increase in the number of democracies post Cold War, this contemporary question is one, which many
scholars of International Relations aim to answer. Whilst many scholars may argue that spreading
democracy will make the world a more peaceful place, as claimed with the democratic peace theory, it
is necessary to look at factors other than democracy that lead to world peace. By understanding factors
such as common cultures allowing for international cooperation, the weaknesses of democratic
institutions in prohibiting warfare and the importance of economy to states highlight that it is more
than just democracy that leads to international harmony, and that perhaps liberal democracies more so
than just democracy itself will allow for greater global amity.
Arguably peace and democracy are equally ambiguous words. Peace, internationally involves a lack of
armed conflicts, encompassing the idea that states will not wage war against each other resulting in
physical or economic losses. . However, peace at a state level is when there is civil order within the
country and citizens are content with their human rights and civil liberties . As peace seeks to
symbolize a wide range of things, peace in this essay is defined at its international level, whereby
there is no warfare. Secondly, democracy will be defined in this essay by its modern meaning as the
process of developing a recognizably

An Inspirational Man Who Went From The Classic American...
Today, I will be discussing an inspirational man who went from humble beginnings to the classic
American successor. Colin Powell was born on April 5, 1937 in New York City, New York. He was
raised in South Bronx, where he attended Morris High School. In 1958, he received his Bachelors in
Geology from the City College of New York. Powell later went on to earn his Master s degree from
George Washington University. It was there; he discovered his love for ROTC and went on to serve 35
years. He held many positions before he became general. He served in the Vietnam War, where he was
involved in a helicopter crash. He was awarded for bravery after surviving and rescuing three others,
single handedly including his commander. Under President ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

What is leadership? Leadership is both a process and a property. As a process, leadership involves the
use of non coercive influence. As a property, leadership is the set of characteristics attributed to
someone who is perceived to use influence successfully. (Moorhead and Griffin, 1998) This book was
written by Oren Harari, a management professor and consultant. He said he met Powell years ago after
hearing him speak to an audience on his audacious Wall Street Journal speech. He claimed this speech
inspired him to write this great book about the great successor. He also felt a leader of this magnitude
should be admired and heard worldwide. I t was then, Harari began to write. Harari considers Powell
as one of the world s most effective, bottom line leaders. Throughout this book, Harari displays
Powell s key to loyalty, entrusting his staff, valuing opinions of others, and establishing respect for
authority figures. In The Leadership Secrets of Colin Powell, Harari gives a unique perspective on the
many roles of Colin Powell and the way he became the great leader he is today. The book provides
excellent food for thought, while describing the benefits and difficulties faced by managers,
supervisors, and leaders at all levels of any kind of organization. Harari takes the concept of leadership
off its pedestal and shares the most important attributes and qualities that bring leaders success,
respect, and loyalty. According to Colin Powell, Leadership is the art

The Importance Of Homosexuality On Gender And Sexuality
It seems the first point of any homophobic person s argument on why being gay is wrong is that it says
so in the bible . The reason homophobic people try to make this point is because the Bible is a
religious staple. Religion is so influential, it dictates the way people think and how they act. Whether
or not you believe/practice a religion, the effects it has had on societal norms are undeniable. This
essay argues that the Bible effects the constructions of societal norms about gender and sexuality. I
support this argument by explaining the importance of the Bible and examining the text found in it.
What is the Bible? The Bible is a collection of texts that certain religions consider to be a record of the
relationship between God and humans. The reason the Bible is important is because of how powerful
it can be. One example that proves the power of the Bible is the fact that it is the basis of Christianity
and Judaism. Meaning that it is the basis for the most followed religion in the world, Christianity (Pew
Research Center). Another example that proves how powerful the Bible is that some people actually
believe it is the direct word from God. Anything that is thought to be a direct quote from God is going
to hold a lot of power in the world. What I have always been taught growing up in a strong Catholic
family is that the Bible is the instructions to be a good person. I was never taught to take the Bible
scriptures literally and believe every single minuet detail.

Within comptemporary society, there are many ways to define gender. Gender includes all the
characteristics that differentiate masculinity and femininity. The existence of masculinity create
problems for every men because they are constantly pressured to behave in a certain way in order to

Natural Objects Used Convey A Symbolic Meaning
Natural Objects used to convey a Symbolic Meaning
Percy Shelley was a writer during the Romantic Era, often known for his lyric poetry. In lyric poetry,
the mood is often musical and emotional, often represented in rhythm and rhyme (Portnoy). The writer
of a lyric poem uses words that express his state of mind, his perceptions, or his feelings. Shelley
composes lyric poetry that makes use of the language, imagery, and metaphors to represent a symbolic
meaning of the object he is addressing in each poem (Portnoy). Shelley often uses concrete images in
his poetry to convey an abstract idea. Shelley uses natural objects to represent a symbolic meaning
throughout Mont Blanc, Hymn to Intellectual Beauty, and Ode to the West Wind. In Mont ... Show

Shelley uses the way water flows through a riverbank to symbolize the way our thought flows through
our mind The source of human thought its tribute brings, Of water, with a sound of half its own, Such
as a feeble brook will oft assume, In the wild woods, among the mountains lone, Where waterfalls
around it leap for ever (Shelley 871). Thoughts rush into the mind filling the brain, similarly as water
rushes down a riverbank, filling the riverbank until it can hold no more. Within this mind human
thought brings its tribute, that is, giving the external world what it owes to it, like a brook flowing as a
tributary into a mighty river (Portnoy). The beginning of the second stanza, Shelley states Thus thou,
Ravine of Arve dark, deep Ravine Thou many coloured, many voice vale (Shelley 871) to further
symbolize the way our thoughts flow through our mind, just as the River of Arve flows through this
ravine. Shelley turns from his own private inward musing to look at the scene in front of him, the
ravine of the River Arve at the foot of Mount Blanc (Portnoy). Shelley uses the many colours
reflecting off the River Arve Thou many colour, many voice vale (Shelley 871) to symbolize the way
our many different memories can affect the thoughts within our minds. The final line of the fifth
stanza ends the poem by questioning the vacancy found in silence and solitude And what were thou,

Complexities Of Community College Culture Essay
Complexities of Community College Culture
Brooke Adkison Head
University of Alabama
Abstract
Community colleges do not have a single culture, but rather a myriad of cultures. The culture of an
institution in higher education may not fit into a traditional model due to the complexity of academic
culture. Within an institution, there is a dominate culture, as well as subcultures that exist. In addition,
there are administrative cultures that may interact with the academic culture. The administration,
faculty, staff, and students of an institution influence the culture, institutional goals, as well as
individual success. Due to increasing demands and greater accountability in higher education,
administrators are faced with greater challenges. At the community college level, there is an
expectation for timely responsiveness to meet the needs of the community and workforce. Educational
institutions must demonstrate sensitivity to the existing culture when addressing challenges in order to
make progress.

After viewing the multimedia presentation, and doing some research the two major contributors of

contributors to the childhood education sector. Lyndon B. Johnson, was born in Stonewall, Texas.
After, the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, he was sworn in as the 36th President. Lyndon
Johnson, was a remarkable man. I can relate to this because, I can remember the things he done to
fight against poverty. In 1965, he created Project Headstart Program. This program was designed to
help children and families that was living in poverty, and below the poverty level (lbjlibrary.org). He
wanted to do something about poverty in the world, and that was affecting the children and families.
Although, the program was for the summer, and only lasted eight weeks. I know from experience, this
program is very beneficial because, when it was created I was a child that went to Headstart during

Upton Sinclair s The Food Industry

Upton Sinclair
Upton Sinclair, the most influential writer regarding the food industry was born in Baltimore 1879.
Growing up in a poor family with an alcoholic father was difficult for Upton (Simkin, John). Upton
often lived with his wealthy grandparents during his childhood due to the instability in his own home.
Moving from his poor parents house to his grandparents rich house constantly made him see the
injustice in the American society, this made him become a radical socialist as young as his early teens.
At 14, Upton being the intelligent and independent man he was, started attending New York City
College. In order to make money to pay for his tuition, apartment, and still provide for his family,
Upton sold magazines and news articles of his socialistic ideas. The childhood Upton struggled
through with family and financial problems only made him strive to change the conditions of America
in his writing.
Sinclair s writing started to become very eminent in the early 1900 s, and by the age of 16 his book
The Jungle changes the food industry forever. In 1905 Sinclair was hired to work in Packingtown
Chicago for a meat processing company for a pay of $500 ( $13,513.51 today s money) (Upton

afterwards, he went into solitude for nine months to write about the details of the industry. The meat
would be shoveled into carts,

The Invention Of Skateboard In The 1940 s
Around the time of the 1940 s was when the first ever skateboard was made. In the early 1940 s and
1950 s many surfers in California wanted something to do when the waves were flat which mean, they
weren t able to surf. The people who supposedly came up with the idea were a few surfers who wanted
to be able to do something similar as they did in the water. Skateboarding history still has a mysterious
origin. No one to this day knows who actually invented the skate board. Several people have claimed
to have made the skateboard but nothing has been proven. In 1965 skate boarding s popularity began
to reach its s top. First skateboarders started with wooden boxes or boards with roller skate wheels

Some skateboarders also own longboards, and love longboarding just as much as skateboarding. Some
skaters even believe that longboarding is the best way to earn how to ride. This makes sense to me
because longboards are usually more stable and secure because of their length. And not only can they
be used for enjoyment, but they also help you save gas when you commute. An old school skateboard
is extremely different from the skateboards of today. Old school skateboards normally are talking
about skateboards that were popular in the past and are not really used today. They are sometimes
known as classic skateboards. The term Old school skateboards is usually used to talk about any
skateboard that goes back to the 1980 s. No matter what skateboards have been around sense the 1930

How Does Zhang Yimou Use Dramatic Irony In To Live
Zhang Yimou s To Live is a powerful indictment of communist authoritarian rule and blind patriotism.
The film places the viewer in the position of an insider as the Communist Revolution alters the
political and social landscape of China. By using dramatic irony, Zhang Yimou appraises communist
collectivist culture, class structure and power in revolutionary China, and the Cultural Revolution. In
addition, by using shadow puppetry as a symbol of indoctrination, Zhang Yimou examines the link
between political change, personal tragedy, and bureaucratic incompetence.
Among Zhang Yimou s characters, we see many people who are subject to constraints on their free

contributes to the death of his son.
These two tragic deaths, both filled with dramatic irony, reveal Zhang Yimou s critique of communist
collectivist culture and the class structure and power in revolutionary China. Communist collectivist
culture may produce benefits such as communal kitchens and giving poor townspeople a sense of
hope. However, the class antagonisms between revolutionaries and counterrevolutions produces an

Grease: The Journey of Adolescence.
The movie Grease is about seniors at Rydell High School who are trying to find who they want to be

having a romantic summer fling with a boy named Danny, played by John Travolta. When she arrived
at Rydell, Sandy found that Danny attended the school as well but acted nothing like the boy she met

school dance, Sandy got another blow to her self esteem. She and Danny were having a great time
dancing, they were even the stars of the dance, when Danny s ex girlfriend Cha Cha slid in and moved
Sandy out of the way. Cha Cha was beautiful, dressed provocatively and was a great dancer. Instead of
following Sandy, Danny continued to dance with Cha Cha and they won the dance contest. Since they

Inversion Of Public And Private Life In Julius Caesar
In act 3 Scene 4, the relationship between Antony and Octavia is presented to us through the means of
the conversation that they have about the arising conflict between Antony and Caesar. Although short,
the scene manages to present to us the relationship of Antony and Octavia as a comparison to Antony s
relationship with Cleopatra and further the inversion of public and private life, as Antony only
discusses public life with his wife Octavia and private with Cleopatra. This scene is significant as the
relationship between Antony and Octavia is portrayed to portend the conflict and the future war
between the two polar opposites, Egypt and Rome and the allowance of Antony to focus on duty and
honor which was lost with Cleopatra as he was indulged ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout this Scene, Antony and Octavia do not talk about their private life and only discuss the
public issues, even when they are alone together. This is shown by their persistent talk about duty and
honor of Antony with his wife Octavia and the fact that it was not common for the husband and wife
to talk about their public life, whereas Antony only discusses private life with Cleopatra. The fact that
Octavia acts as the reconciler between Antony and Caesar also indulges her into their public life that
further justifies the point that there is an inversion of private life with Octavia and that even in the
only private scene of the play, they talk about public affairs. The inversion is further shown by, O my
good lord, / Believe not all, or, if you must believe, / Stomach not all. From this line we see that
Octavia cares about Antony, nonetheless the fact that she means the news, justifies the point that there
is an inversion and that even when they are alone together, Octavia talks about the news and public
affairs around them. Furthermore, the effect that Octavia says this privately to Antony, refers to the
fact that their relationship is only based and was made due to public affairs, when Antony married
Octavia to sign and agree to bond to Caesar closely, as they were against the same enemy, whereas
with Cleopatra, Antony discusses private issues as he is in love with her. This is showcased by, There s
beggary in the love that can be reckoned. Shakespeare shows through these words Antony s love to
Cleopatra, that he does not want to measure the extent of love. The significance of putting this in the
first scene of the play is to shows the strong love and bond between Antony and Cleopatra and that the
play ends with them dying together, signifies that the whole play is actually revolving around their
relationship and the relationship of Antony and

Childhood Memories And Its Effects On Our Lives
We each have memories, both from long ago and recent times, that we hold dear to us. Memories get
us through the hard days and keep us chipper in the good ones. The past is what makes us who we are.
It shapes how we act, how we treat others, and simply just what we do on a day to day basis.
Memories are the little things that keep this world running smoothly. Imagine what it would be like to
lose those memories. What if you were to forget things to the point you were losing your
functionality? Every 67 seconds another person in the US falls victim to this disease (www.alz.org).

These are people suffering from Alzheimers Disease, affecting 5 million individuals in the United
States alone. Alzheimers Disease is a type of dementia, a more general term meaning a decline in
someone s mental ability, to the point of affecting their everyday life. Alzheimers is actually the most

Violence is used as a weapon to exert power over others. It s a misconception that violence against
female is generated by males only. In reality it is of both types inter sex and intra sex. Even mother
who bears equal labor pains during birth of her children discriminates between her son and daughter.
In India where domestic violence persists in want of dowry females also play their role in victimizing
women. Husband is not the only accused in bride burning cases participation of females like mother in
law and sister in law are also included. Another great cause of domestic violence in India is want of
male child. Researches indicate that 30%of the abuse starts during pregnancy; during which a woman
needs special care and attention; they are deprived of basic amenities like medicines and healthy diet
even during pregnancy. Nearly about two third of females are anaemic which leads to death of mother
or child during child birth. Early marriages, forced marriages, honor killing , acid throwing,
trafficking, rape, sexual abuse, female foeticide and female infanticide , neglect of women health
problems , compelling and humiliating women, alcoholism of the husband are some of the other forms
of violence against women in India. Forced prostitution due to poverty is also very common in some
Indian states. Husband s infedility is also a major cause of psychological violence in most of the cases.

Universal Design Is A Principle Of Learning Essay
Universal design is a principle of learning that can easily find its roots in the historical examples of
physical accessibility. Deriving from the concept that when a spatial environment is universally
designed, it is designed to be accessible to any and all people of all abilities. In todays world a spatial
environment, the example of universal design is all around us. In daily walks on university and college
campuses students with disabilities have likely used the curb cuts in sidewalks or the ramps that now
accompany the stairs that lead to many campus buildings. Today s society benefits from a universally
designed environment. Universal design is about removing barriers and creating balance. Universal
design incorporated in an online learning environment takes spatial elements that expands the learner s
environment beyond physical accessibility to make learning accessible for all. In short, the goal of
making learning accessible to all is to remove barriers, both obvious, and obscure barriers. Universal
design is also a basic framework that shifts from designing online learning environments and
interactive lessons with potential barriers to designing barrier free, instruction rich learning
environments for all college students. The enriched online learning environment is then designed
around the possibility of meeting any enrolled student s unique need. It is important to emphasize that
universal design is a framework and not a specified curriculum. With

LITERATURE REVIEW
What is brand personality?
As defined by Aaker (1997), brand personality refers to the set of human characteristics associated
with a brand. Aaker assumes that the brands are the same with the human personality or character, and
the brand personality is created when a consumer attached his or her personality like character to a
specific brand. According to Hawkins, et al (2001), brand personality can be considered as what type
of person the brand would be if it were human and what it would do and like .

Brand as a person/symbolic use
As suggested by Aaker (1997), brand personality is created in the perspective of brand as a person. It
has the same concept with Hawkins, Best, and Coney (2001) where they assume that the brand to be a
human and every human has his own personality.

Workplace Harassment
An Analysis of Workplace Harassment and Bullying in Today s Society
Introduction
Workplace harassment and bullying occurs when an employee subjects another employee to degrading
behaviour, whether verbal abuse and threats or actual physical violence. It is an inappropriate
expression of power that affects workers and their productivity in an unfavourable way (Spry, 1998).
Management, and other types of employees, who occupy high status roles sometimes believe that
harassing their subordinates is within their rights and make demands of the lower status employees
(Langton, Robbins, Judge, 2010, p. 313).
Harassment is often a result of stress, power, differences of opinion, undefined expectations of
management, absent policies, and tasks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Johns amp; Saks, 2008, p. 135)
It has typically been thought of as a type of harassment that only women experience in the workplace;
however, men can be victims of sexual harassment as well. Sexual harassment demeans its victims,
whether female or male.
A victim of sexual harassment can be anyone within an organization, although some individuals are
more prone to victimization. For example, women within an organization who are highly educated,
young, and seeking to move up within the ranks of the organization can be perceived by men as a
threat and so are targeted (Mueller, De Coster, amp; Estes, 2001). The corporate culture in which
individuals work can also influence who becomes a victim of sexual harassment. Women who work in
male dominated occupations or work groups are more likely to be harassed than women who work in
female dominated or gender integrated occupations or work groups (Mueller et al., 2001). Corporate
cultures that are more open about sexual matters may become too lenient regarding this topic which
can potentially lead to increased sexual harassment cases. It has been

The Test Of Patients Admitted At The Massachusetts General...
2. a) The study used a consecutive non randomized, non probability sampling method. The study
selected records of patients admitted to the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) between
September 1997 and August 2008 in a consecutive manner until a specific number was obtained. In
this study, the number was 297. The study excluded 62 records that did not fit the sampling
requirements. The final sample was n = 235 (Salinas et al., 2012). When using consecutive sampling
techniques, the researcher includes all patients who agree to participate, provided that they meet
specific pre established criteria. The researcher will stop the selection process when the desired
sample is achieved. This sampling technique is similar to the convenience sampling technique except,
that it aims to represent the whole cohort of the population (Fain, 2013). It is considered the most
reliable non probability sampling technique. This sampling method is more credible and possesses a
higher validity level than any other non probability sampling method. It also decreases the possibility
of researcher s bias. However, this sampling technique faces the same issue of all the non probability
sampling techniques as the possibility of bias is always present (Fain, 2013). Another drawback of the
consecutive sampling technique lies within the possibility that the response rate and the type of
individuals responding may influence the findings. The responding individuals may have life
circumstances or personal

King George IIi Of Great Britain
It was the late 1700 s, the New England Colonies were being ruled by the cynical, power hungry
tyrant known as King George III of Great Britain. Although King George did not initialize the
colonization of America, he had a drastic effect on its history and what makes modern America what it
is today. ¬¬ In order for the Boston Massacre to even occur, there had to be some sort of negative
stimulus surrounding the Colonists that could and would trigger such an event. Some of this negative
stimulus stemmed from King George and his unnecessary acts imposed upon the colonists. These acts
included: The Stamp Act of 1764 and Sugar Act of 1764, which set hefty tax on stamps as well as
sugar and molasses. The Sugar Act of 1764 had the most impact on the colonies. It impacted the
manufacture of rum, which, at the time, was an important export from the Colonies. There was an act
passed known as the Townshend Acts of 1767; this act in particular made the Colonists furious with
Great Britain because it added a tax onto common household items such as paper, glass, and tea. This,
of course, angered the Colonists. They felt like that Great Britain did not have the right to impose
these taxes upon them because they did not elect their representatives in Parliament. As a result of
these acts, the Colonist essentially started to rebel against Great Britain by boycotting goods shipped
over from Britain. In order to maintain the peace and keep order in the Colonies, King George III and

Pasteurization Is Not Sterilization Essay
1. Explain, in detail, the meaning of the following statement. Pasteurization is not sterilization
These two method of microbial control are used for different purpose, while sterilization is used to
keep instruments, equipment, materials and objects free from harmful microorganisms, viruses and
bacterial endospores, pasteurization is used keep food and beverages from spoiling by killing
pathogens and reducing the number of spoilage microorganism. During the pasteurization of food
products, not all microorganism is destroyed, thermoduric and thermophilic prokaryotes can survive.
However, they do not represent a health risk for consumers because theses prokaryotes are not
commonly pathogenic. Also, pasteurized foods are refrigerated right away and stored until
consumption. 2. Describe at least two methods of microbial control in depth and give examples of

To sterilize items, they must be immersed in a solution for the required time specified by the

B) Disinfection is a less lethal process than sterilization and is intended to kill disease producing
microorganism but not bacterial endospores. A chemical that kills microorganism but not spore is
called a disinfectant. Several types of disinfectant are available:
Phenol and phenolics: They are intermediate to low level disinfectant. They work by denaturing
proteins and disrupting the cell membranes of microorganisms. They are used in healthcare settings,

How Does Bloor Present The Theme Of Tangerine Change...
Our first instinct when change is near to intertwining with our lives is to run away from the monster
that might turn our lives around in seconds. Nevertheless, Edward Bloor tackles this belief in his novel
Tangerine with his own unique perspective, that change could result to a new start or adventure if we
are willing to accept it into our lives. The novel Tangerine follows the perspective of Paul Fisher:an
aspiring soccer star, the supposedly imperfect younger brother of golden boy Erik Fisher, and legally
blind. Most people would assume being blind is Paul s worst burden, but with Paul moving to
Tangerine,Florida to be in the shadows of his older football star destined brother yet again, who in
reality is a bully, might just top Paul s problem ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The evidence is present through these two quotes: At this spot, we cut a slit into the rough lemon tree,
set a new type of bud inside, and close the split up with tape. Now we have turned the tree into
something else(164). The second quote is I thought about my own mom and dad,and I looked him
right in the eye. Then they are lying to you. They are telling you a story just so they can keep you
scared(251). The first quote happened at the grove where Luis was talking about how the Gold Dawn
tree is formed, and the bud represents Paul. Paul went through the the same process as the bud to form
the Golden Dawn tree. Paul was first placed in this new town he wasn t familiar with, but eventually
he settled in as one of the town s inhabitants. Also, Paul learned the truth in Tangerine, so he sealed his
old past away, where he was fearful and clueless, and he blossomed into someone completely
different. The second quote was when Paul confronted the young boy after the boy tried to warn him
about the rumored gator lurking in the pond. Paul was angry and let his emotions loose;when the boy
told Paul that his parents would never tell him stories to make him scared. It was an infuriating
situation for Paul to see that this boy was making the same mistakes he did when he was younger,
believing in his parent s lies, and he ended up shouting at the boy that all those stories were lies to

Bullying And Emotional Abuse Among School Children
Research Summary of Bullying and Emotional Abuse Among School Children
Bullying is a social phenomenon that goes beyond gender, age, and culture. There are wide ranges in
the definition of the term, bullying it is essentially characterized by one or more individuals primarily
to assert control or power. Bullying is a common thing now a day s on school playgrounds,
neighborhood, social media also called cyber bullying , and at homes. Bullying among children brings
a variety of negative acts carried out repeatedly over time. Bullying can take three different forms like,
physical aggression (hitting, punching, pushing, taking personal belongings, etc.), verbal (malicious
tease, name calling, humiliation criticism, etc.), and psychological attacks (rumors, manipulation,
jokes, intimidation, etc.).
When it comes to bullying there are short and long term consequences for both the perpetrator and the
victims. Victims of bullying, experience more physical and psychological problems than their peer
who are not harassed by others. Bullying may also contribute to the development of eating disorders
like anorexia and bulimia nervosa, anxiety, depression, bad grades, and even death. The consequences
for the perpetrator can lead to being expelled from school, suspended from things they like and even
going to jail or prison depending how old they are and the charges the school and parents make to
them. The risk for these negative outcomes is increased if the bullying is severe,

Grindhouse Themes
When talking about Quentin Tarantino Grindhouse isn t the first film that comes to mind. This tends to
be the case since it was a double feature style film that was co directed with Robert Rodriguez. The
film Grindhouse is actually a double feature film that puts Rodriquez s Planet Terror and Tarantino s
Death Proof together.Caetlin Benson Allott looks at the films and focuses on the cultural studies
aspect of the films, analyzing the culture of grindhouse theaters and exploitations films. Grindhouse is
an overlooked film that pays homage to 1970 s exploitation films and as Caetlin Benson Allott s
critique of Grindhouse focuses on how the film, as a whole, is an ironic imitation since theatrical
exhibition is dead. In order to talk about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Caetlin Benson Allott s perspective on the subject is a notable example of how the Grindhouse double
feature attempts to show a younger audience the concept of grindhouse films. This typically can t be
shown because of the media that is currently accessible. Film has become less of a theatrical release,
an act of theatre, and has become a solo venture. This solo venture show where the viewer has
changed along with the entire media of film. This is summed up when Caetlin Benson Allott says
Although Death Proof in it s full and independent form may be Tarantino s most charismatic cultural
recycling program to date, the Death Proof one saw in Grindhouse has been superseded by its
extended dvd version(Allott). Caetlin Benson Allott points out how the feel and sense that the movie
tries to emulate can no longer be obtained, or viewed because of the current age of media and the role
of the economic cycle plays into the current age of film. Since modern films make most of their
money through DVD and movie sales after a film s theatrical release the idea behind exploitation
movies has been perverted further into a direction that illustrates the death of the theatrical nature of

Scurvy During The Age Of Scurvy
Scurvy (a vitamin C deficiency) had plagued the world for multiple centuries until actions were finally
taken in attempt to find an antidote. Scurvy is a disease which results from insufficient intake of
vitamin C and leads to the spots on the skin, spongy gums and bleeding from almost all mucous
membranes. Vitamin C deficiency and scurvy was hastened in the age of sail because of the rigorous
working conditions for sailors. The diet of sailors during the age of sail was obviously the main factor
in the plight of scurvy. As Vitamin C cannot be produced internally by humans, it must be ingested
through the diet. By examining the history of vitamin C, one can fully appreciate the advances made
in its research. Surprisingly, vitamin C s importance

through workshops from the course on General Diplomatic Studies and Practice. What I have leant
from each module; negotiation, mediation, policy analysis, crisis game, and speech training, can be

Negotiation
The negotiation skills workshop gave me both theoretical and pragmatic skills in negotiation.
Beginning with informal multilateral negotiation in groups was a good way to start and break the ice

One important thing that I learnt from this skill is that sometimes you might not need to speak a lot or
try to speak all the time, but the important thing is that you should try to see which actor shares the
same opinion as you and whether that actor is strong enough to act on your behalf. This was really
obvious in the activity of multilateral negotiations on negotiating intervention in a civil conflict where
I played Iraq. I found that Iraq shared a lot in common with the Arab states, especially Iran on the
Syrian issues. Balancing interests in the negotiation through the Arab countries helped Iraq protect its
interests. Without speaking much, but allying very well with Iran and balancing the interests with the
Arab states, it turned out that I gained the highest score in my group.
However, there was one thing I found quite unrealistic about this activity. That was the rule on
unanimous agreement. I do not think this can be applied in the real world situation. I think that it
would be better if we do not need to stick on this. The unanimous rule made some players concede too
much, and that did not reflect real international negotiations. The role play on Six party talks was both
fun and useful. This role play gave me a chance to practice more skills on negotiation and chairing.
This activity really showed the difficulties of negotiations on issues that are really critical to national
survival. The North Korean issue was very

  • 2. The Gender Difference Between Rumination and Reflection Gender difference between Rumination and Reflection Abstract This study examined the gender differences between rumination and reflection. Undergraduate psychology students (251 women with the mean age 22.08 and 94 men with the mean age 22.64) were each given a questionnaire to fill out as part of their course requirement. The aim of the study was to examine if there were differences in coping styles between men and women. The hypothesis women would use rumination more as a coping strategy and that men would use reflection more often. The results supported the hypothesis that women tend to use rumination more so than men. Contrary to expectations that men would use reflection ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As was expected by Thayer, Rossy, Ruiz Padial and Johnsen (2003), women reported more depression, sadness, guilt, blame and tiredness. • 4. Minimum Wage Impact The Impact of Minimum Wage on the Economy In the 20th century, was the first time that the United States created the minimum wage and would influence world wide economies. Since then, this economic system has been a controversial topic all over the world between the workers and employers. Historically, we can analyze the positive and negative effects of raising the minimum wage. Moreover, literature researchers have also analyzed the impact of the minimum wage on the economy on social, economic, and professional aspects. Therefore, the following literature reviews will discuss these aspects which are fast food unionization, the grocery stores wage distribution, low wage work in five European countries and the USA, minimum wages reduce employment possibilities, inequality trends, the consequences of doubling the minimum wage, employment effects of minimum and subminimum wages, certifying voluntary living wage employers, minimum wage and Mexican and Central American influx, and collective bargaining. First, the fast food industry is one of many factors that is impacted by the minimum wage. Matter of fact, the fast food workers demanded that the minimum wage is raised to $15 since the average wage for workers is $8.94 and this does not include wage theft, such as no overtime pay, not receiving proper break times, and missing hours from the paychecks. Additionally, low wages bring down collective action among the workers, the workers hours are never guaranteed and are sent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. A Relationship Between Democracy And Making The World A... Is there a relationship between democracy and making the world a more peaceful place? With the increase in the number of democracies post Cold War, this contemporary question is one, which many scholars of International Relations aim to answer. Whilst many scholars may argue that spreading democracy will make the world a more peaceful place, as claimed with the democratic peace theory, it is necessary to look at factors other than democracy that lead to world peace. By understanding factors such as common cultures allowing for international cooperation, the weaknesses of democratic institutions in prohibiting warfare and the importance of economy to states highlight that it is more than just democracy that leads to international harmony, and that perhaps liberal democracies more so than just democracy itself will allow for greater global amity. Arguably peace and democracy are equally ambiguous words. Peace, internationally involves a lack of armed conflicts, encompassing the idea that states will not wage war against each other resulting in physical or economic losses. . However, peace at a state level is when there is civil order within the country and citizens are content with their human rights and civil liberties . As peace seeks to symbolize a wide range of things, peace in this essay is defined at its international level, whereby there is no warfare. Secondly, democracy will be defined in this essay by its modern meaning as the process of developing a recognizably ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Colin Powell was born on April 5, 1937 in New York City, New York. He was raised in South Bronx, where he attended Morris High School. In 1958, he received his Bachelors in Geology from the City College of New York. Powell later went on to earn his Master s degree from George Washington University. It was there; he discovered his love for ROTC and went on to serve 35 years. He held many positions before he became general. As a property, leadership is the set of characteristics attributed to someone who is perceived to use influence successfully. (Moorhead and Griffin, 1998) This book was written by Oren Harari, a management professor and consultant. He said he met Powell years ago after hearing him speak to an audience on his audacious Wall Street Journal speech. He claimed this speech inspired him to write this great book about the great successor. He also felt a leader of this magnitude should be admired and heard worldwide. I t was then, Harari began to write. Harari considers Powell as one of the world s most effective, bottom line leaders. Throughout this book, Harari displays Powell s key to loyalty, entrusting his staff, valuing opinions of others, and establishing respect for authority figures. In The Leadership Secrets of Colin Powell, Harari gives a unique perspective on the many roles of Colin Powell and the way he became the great leader he is today. The book provides excellent food for thought, while describing the benefits and difficulties faced by managers, supervisors, and leaders at all levels of any kind of organization. Harari takes the concept of leadership off its pedestal and shares the most important attributes and qualities that bring leaders success, respect, and loyalty. • 7. The Importance Of Homosexuality On Gender And Sexuality It seems the first point of any homophobic person s argument on why being gay is wrong is that it says so in the bible . The reason homophobic people try to make this point is because the Bible is a religious staple. Religion is so influential, it dictates the way people think and how they act. Whether or not you believe/practice a religion, the effects it has had on societal norms are undeniable. This essay argues that the Bible effects the constructions of societal norms about gender and sexuality. I support this argument by explaining the importance of the Bible and examining the text found in it. What is the Bible? The Bible is a collection of texts that certain religions consider to be a record of the relationship between God and humans. The reason the Bible is important is because of how powerful it can be. One example that proves the power of the Bible is the fact that it is the basis of Christianity and Judaism. Meaning that it is the basis for the most followed religion in the world, Christianity (Pew Research Center). Another example that proves how powerful the Bible is that some people actually believe it is the direct word from God. Anything that is thought to be a direct quote from God is going to hold a lot of power in the world. What I have always been taught growing up in a strong Catholic family is that the Bible is the instructions to be a good person. I was never taught to take the Bible scriptures literally and believe every single minuet detail. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Within an institution, there is a dominate culture, as well as subcultures that exist. In addition, there are administrative cultures that may interact with the academic culture. Feb. 2015 Upton Sinclair Upton Sinclair, the most influential writer regarding the food industry was born in Baltimore 1879. Growing up in a poor family with an alcoholic father was difficult for Upton (Simkin, John). Upton often lived with his wealthy grandparents during his childhood due to the instability in his own home. Moving from his poor parents house to his grandparents rich house constantly made him see the injustice in the American society, this made him become a radical socialist as young as his early teens. At 14, Upton being the intelligent and independent man he was, started attending New York City College. In order to make money to pay for his tuition, apartment, and still provide for his family, Upton sold magazines and news articles of his socialistic ideas. The childhood Upton struggled through with family and financial problems only made him strive to change the conditions of America in his writing. Sinclair s writing started to become very eminent in the early 1900 s, and by the age of 16 his book The Jungle changes the food industry forever. In 1905 Sinclair was hired to work in Packingtown Chicago for a meat processing company for a pay of $500 ( $13,513.51 today s money) (Upton Sinclair Hits Readers in the Stomach). Although short, the scene manages to present to us the relationship of Antony and Octavia as a comparison to Antony s relationship with Cleopatra and further the inversion of public and private life, as Antony only discusses public life with his wife Octavia and private with Cleopatra. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout this Scene, Antony and Octavia do not talk about their private life and only discuss the public issues, even when they are alone together. This is shown by their persistent talk about duty and honor of Antony with his wife Octavia and the fact that it was not common for the husband and wife to talk about their public life, whereas Antony only discusses private life with Cleopatra. The fact that Octavia acts as the reconciler between Antony and Caesar also indulges her into their public life that further justifies the point that there is an inversion of private life with Octavia and that even in the only private scene of the play, they talk about public affairs. The inversion is further shown by, O my good lord, / Believe not all, or, if you must believe, / Stomach not all. From this line we see that Octavia cares about Antony, nonetheless the fact that she means the news, justifies the point that there is an inversion and that even when they are alone together, Octavia talks about the news and public affairs around them. Furthermore, the effect that Octavia says this privately to Antony, refers to the fact that their relationship is only based and was made due to public affairs, when Antony married Octavia to sign and agree to bond to Caesar closely, as they were against the same enemy, whereas with Cleopatra, Antony discusses private issues as he is in love with her. This is showcased by, There s beggary in the love that can be reckoned. Shakespeare shows through these words Antony s love to Cleopatra, that he does not want to measure the extent of love. Mac is trying to avoid the work required by his sentence of statutory rape of a 15 year old girl by claiming (he is a marvel of modern science) insanity. The hospital is overseen by Nurse Ratched, who according to Mac does not play fair . She has a dominating personality with a passive aggressive way of handling the patients. Her humiliation of the patients combined with her senseless control bring her and Mac to a test of wills that challenges each other throughout the movie. Mac makes friends with the other patients and soon he is looked up to and seen as the leader of the group and a father figure. His group is made up of some very strong well developed characters like Cheswick, childlike tantrum thrower, Mr Harding (Hard on), an intellectual man struggling with his own sexuality, Billy, a stuttering very insecure young man, Martini, always smiling and very simple minded, and Chief, an enormous Indian who everyone is fooling everyone into thinking he is deaf and dumb when in actuality he is normal. • 23. Universal Design Is A Principle Of Learning Essay Universal design is a principle of learning that can easily find its roots in the historical examples of physical accessibility. Deriving from the concept that when a spatial environment is universally designed, it is designed to be accessible to any and all people of all abilities. In todays world a spatial environment, the example of universal design is all around us. In daily walks on university and college campuses students with disabilities have likely used the curb cuts in sidewalks or the ramps that now accompany the stairs that lead to many campus buildings. Today s society benefits from a universally designed environment. Universal design is about removing barriers and creating balance. Universal design incorporated in an online learning environment takes spatial elements that expands the learner s environment beyond physical accessibility to make learning accessible for all. In short, the goal of making learning accessible to all is to remove barriers, both obvious, and obscure barriers. Universal design is also a basic framework that shifts from designing online learning environments and interactive lessons with potential barriers to designing barrier free, instruction rich learning environments for all college students. The enriched online learning environment is then designed around the possibility of meeting any enrolled student s unique need. It is important to emphasize that universal design is a framework and not a specified curriculum. With ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As defined by Aaker (1997), brand personality refers to the set of human characteristics associated with a brand. Aaker assumes that the brands are the same with the human personality or character, and the brand personality is created when a consumer attached his or her personality like character to a specific brand. According to Hawkins, et al (2001), brand personality can be considered as what type of person the brand would be if it were human and what it would do and like . Workplace Harassment An Analysis of Workplace Harassment and Bullying in Today s Society Introduction Workplace harassment and bullying occurs when an employee subjects another employee to degrading behaviour, whether verbal abuse and threats or actual physical violence. It is an inappropriate expression of power that affects workers and their productivity in an unfavourable way (Spry, 1998). Management, and other types of employees, who occupy high status roles sometimes believe that harassing their subordinates is within their rights and make demands of the lower status employees (Langton, Robbins, Judge, 2010, p. 313). Harassment is often a result of stress, power, differences of opinion, undefined expectations of management, absent policies, and tasks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Johns amp; Saks, 2008, p. 135) It has typically been thought of as a type of harassment that only women experience in the workplace; however, men can be victims of sexual harassment as well. Sexual harassment demeans its victims, whether female or male. A victim of sexual harassment can be anyone within an organization, although some individuals are more prone to victimization. For example, women within an organization who are highly educated, young, and seeking to move up within the ranks of the organization can be perceived by men as a threat and so are targeted (Mueller, De Coster, amp; Estes, 2001). The corporate culture in which individuals work can also influence who becomes a victim of sexual harassment. Women who work in male dominated occupations or work groups are more likely to be harassed than women who work in female dominated or gender integrated occupations or work groups (Mueller et al., 2001). Corporate cultures that are more open about sexual matters may become too lenient regarding this topic which can potentially lead to increased sexual harassment cases. It has been ... • 27. The Test Of Patients Admitted At The Massachusetts General... 2. a) The study used a consecutive non randomized, non probability sampling method. The study selected records of patients admitted to the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) between September 1997 and August 2008 in a consecutive manner until a specific number was obtained. In this study, the number was 297. The study excluded 62 records that did not fit the sampling requirements. The final sample was n = 235 (Salinas et al., 2012). When using consecutive sampling techniques, the researcher includes all patients who agree to participate, provided that they meet specific pre established criteria. The researcher will stop the selection process when the desired sample is achieved. This sampling technique is similar to the convenience sampling technique except, that it aims to represent the whole cohort of the population (Fain, 2013). It is considered the most reliable non probability sampling technique. This sampling method is more credible and possesses a higher validity level than any other non probability sampling method. It also decreases the possibility of researcher s bias. However, this sampling technique faces the same issue of all the non probability sampling techniques as the possibility of bias is always present (Fain, 2013). Another drawback of the consecutive sampling technique lies within the possibility that the response rate and the type of individuals responding may influence the findings. The responding individuals may have life circumstances or personal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. King George IIi Of Great Britain It was the late 1700 s, the New England Colonies were being ruled by the cynical, power hungry tyrant known as King George III of Great Britain. Although King George did not initialize the colonization of America, he had a drastic effect on its history and what makes modern America what it is today. ¬¬ In order for the Boston Massacre to even occur, there had to be some sort of negative stimulus surrounding the Colonists that could and would trigger such an event. Some of this negative stimulus stemmed from King George and his unnecessary acts imposed upon the colonists. These acts included: The Stamp Act of 1764 and Sugar Act of 1764, which set hefty tax on stamps as well as sugar and molasses. The Sugar Act of 1764 had the most impact on the colonies. It impacted the manufacture of rum, which, at the time, was an important export from the Colonies. There was an act passed known as the Townshend Acts of 1767; this act in particular made the Colonists furious with Great Britain because it added a tax onto common household items such as paper, glass, and tea. This, of course, angered the Colonists. They felt like that Great Britain did not have the right to impose these taxes upon them because they did not elect their representatives in Parliament. As a result of these acts, the Colonist essentially started to rebel against Great Britain by boycotting goods shipped over from Britain.
