Scorched farms, slaughtered livestock, uprooted railway lines and cities set on fire was not typical
battle strategy previously seen on American soil. However, the Civil War was dragging on and
General William Tecumseh Sherman was determined to finally end the fighting. The circumstances
that initiated the war created a figurative and literal divide unlike America had ever seen. The
American Civil War took heavy tolls on the Union and Confederate States of America. Desperate to
end the bloodshed, President Abraham Lincoln trusted Ulysses S. Grant control of the Army and Grant
authorized Sherman the freedom to do whatever necessary to bring conclusion to the conflict (Davis
22). In the military mind of Sherman, the end justified the means and this belief is well documented
throughout his 1864 and 1865 campaign through Georgia, concluding in Goldsboro, North Carolina
(Phillips 11). Sherman despised war and the fact that America had entered into a civil war in the first
place. However, Sherman knew the conflict was unavoidable (Meiers 26). He made the decision to
follow his allegiance to the Union and eventually became the general to lead the Armies of the

My Science Fiction Story Idea
My science fiction story idea is centered around a robotic mission on a distant planet dedicated to
surveying the surface and analyzing samples in order to determine if it is a possible place to be
colonized. The idea is that the planet in question is so distant that it would take days for a signal to
make its way from the robot to Earth; also taking into account obstructions and other phenomena that
could interfere with the signal it was deemed impractical for the robot to require operators controlling
it. With that in mind, the machine has been given sophisticated pseudo artificial intelligence so that it
can operate for long periods of time without requiring input from humans. The story would follow the
point of view of the robot as it traverses the planet running its tests, all the while transmitting
information back to Earth. I hope to use some of the information mentioned in this paper to inspire the

The Chicago Board of Education meets once a month to discuss issues relevant to Chicago Public
Schools, entertain public comments, and make policy and fiscal decisions. Often times the Board
meeting is held at Chicago Public Schools (CPS) central office at 10 a.m. However, both the timing
and location of the meeting on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 differed. The meeting was held at
Gwendolyn Brooks College Preparatory Academy High School at 4:30 p.m. Gwendolyn Brooks is
located on the far south side of Chicago. Hosting the meeting at a CPS school has both positives and
negatives. By bolding the meeting at a school it allows for a less formal atmosphere in addition to
providing the opportunity to showcase some of the beautiful properties CPS possesses. However, this
particular school is not easily accessible by public transportation. This may cause a problem for some
stakeholders that would like to participate in the school board meeting. Furthermore, 4:30 in the

The total DFPR production time for an order was determined to be 47.40 minutes, which equated to a
daily capacity of 10.13 orders (81 boards). Further analysis of DFPR production times (as shown in
Exhibit 6) revealed that production time increases at a decreasing rate as order size increased.
Additionally, daily DFPR capacity, as measured in number of boards, increases at an increasing rate as
the order size is increased (See Exhibit 7). This correlates to DFPR production time per board being
significantly reduced as the order size is increased.
Thus, it is easy to see why a bottleneck might sometimes occur in the DFPR area of there are several
small orders going through back to back. If viewed in the same manner as costs in economics, the
setup time in this operation can be viewed as a fixed cost incurred regardless of production amount.
The rum time can be viewed as variable costs that are incurred at an incremental rate as production is
increased. Thus, smaller orders have a higher percentage of their production time represented by setup
time (fixed) as opposed to run time (variable).

It is well known that exercise applies physiological stress on systems; for instance on the muscular
and cardiovascular systems, causing long term physiological adaptation if it is occurs persistently over
a period of time. Exercise could be utilized in rheumatic diseases if applied correctly in order to
interrupt the cycle of chronic inflammation by inducing anti inflammatory effects via releasing
cytokines with anti inflammatory properties (Petersen and Pedersen. 2005). In the long term, exercise
can improve muscular function which is diminished in RA due to muscle cachexia. Exercise is also
beneficial to reduce the risk of attaining a comorbidity such as cardiovascular or metabolic diseases
(Benatti and Pedersen. 2014). Research is required on the prescription of exercise and how to apply it
into the lives of patients. Studies are being done in these areas however these are different in terms of
the principles of training (Frequency, Intensity, Duration and Type of exercise). They also differ in the
types of patients used in the studies. Thus further study needs to investigate the optimal prescription,
exercise delivery and assist adherence to training (Cooney, Law et al. 2011).

INTRODUCTION
A scholarly work that has received widespread attention and recognition in the Strategic Management
area and beyond is Porter s (1980, 1985) typology of generic competitive strategies: Cost leadership,
differentiation, and focus. These three actually fall into two basic categories. The focus strategy calls
for concentration on a niche or a narrow segment. But Porter says that success in this strategy can be
achieved either via cost leadership or differentiation. Thus, cost leadership and differentiation are the
two basic strategies in Porter s typology. These two then are the subject of discussion in this paper.
This contribution of Porter (1980, 1985) has had a deep and pervasive influence on business theory
and practice. Since then many strategists from diverse fields have examined or made reference to his
work. Most of this voluminous literature appeared during the eighties and the nineties. The purpose of
this paper is to offer a critique of Porter s work, and a synthesis of this literature. Thompson and
Strickland (2008, chap. 5) have expanded Porter s generic strategies from three to five: overall low

Ancient egyptians wore makeup. They regarded beauty as a sign of holiness. Both men and women in
Egypt wore makeup, and even the statues of God wore makeup. Cleanliness and appearance of people,
were highly regarded. Architects would even find tiny clay pallets in some tombs, and yes beauty was
really important to the Ancient Egyptians, but makeup was a different story. Some of their makeup
would be a sign of helping them with the elements, for example: repelling insects, or when the sun s
rays hit their eyes, the makeup would help them not get affected by the sun. Also, makeup may be
served as a routine to honor their god/goddesses. The Ancient Egyptians also created black eye
makeup, and they used it with galena and kohl. What galena is, is that it is a bluish gray color, with
natural minerals, and kohl is a mix between galena and soot. They also created green eye makeup
using malachite. Malachite is a bright green mineral, which is made by copper hydroxyl carbonate.
The Ancient Egyptians had many reasons to wear makeup. They would wear eye makeup to define the
eye, and to give the eye a more cat like look. It was also a good way to prevent diseases, or any bad
minerals to get into your eyes. Ancient Egyptians also wore lip gloss, or nail polish but wore them

Everything can be defined by placement in a category. In his Republic, Plato defines the changes that
a society undergoes by categorizing the changes into five cyclic stages of government. The first stage

timocracy, wherein the timocrat works for the sake of honor. In the third stage, oligarchy, the oligarch
works under the sway of greed. Democracy, is the fourth stage, where the democrat is slave to the

Clinical guidelines are in place for directing treatment of T1DM with either CSII or MDI but there is
