Essay about The Collected Poems of WB Yeats
Yeats, B. William. The Collected Poems of WB Yeats. New York: Macmillan, 1996. 318 The
importance of this book is that it contains some of the works of poetry which were carried out by
William Yeats. Arguably, the most salient feature in the book is the attempt at portraying the shift that
characterized Yeats in his work, so that his works are arranged almost chronologically to underscore
this standpoint. Works that depict him as a bard of the Celtic Twilight, reviving Rosicrucian symbols
and legends are the most frontal. These are followed up by works which show the shift away from
plush romanticism. The same are exhibited by the heavy presence of incantatory rhythms such as I
will arise and go... and go to Innisfree . The same is seen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
New York: WW Norton and Company, 1975. This poem was published in 1927 and comes out as a
form of meditation. The poem is rich in its scope as it covers sundry topics ranging from children, to
human behavior, life in the 20th century, the philosophy on life and life after death, among others.
This poem is an eight lined stanza which is heavily laden with rhymes and the use of prosaic language.
The poem has been written within the context of a visitor who has walked into a classroom under the
guidance of a kind elderly nun. The importance of this poem to this reading is that in it, the poet
addresses the dynamism that has shaped and continues to shape the civil society, progress and
modernity, as opposed to the status quo ante which predated the Civil War or the Anglo Irish War. The
importance of this poem to this reading is also seen in the fact that it betrays the political ideals that
Yeats had: the poem implicates the speaker as being a senator. It is in after 1924 that Yeats served as a
senator. This makes the poem sound like a poem which was penned down after the civil war, given
that it is written from the standpoint of a more peaceful and politically stable Ireland. Thus, the poem
is also instrumental as it lets the reader in into Yeats political orientation and leanings. Thus, the many
qualities Yeats had and the many fields he operated in, in terms of career are well confirmed by this
poem. The

Sepsis Early Detection and Treatment
Running Head: SEPSIS DETECTION AND TREATMENT
Sepsis Early Detection and Treatment
Steven H. Gregory

March28, 2009
Sepsis Early Detection and Treatment Severe Sepsis affects 750,000 Americans and causes more than
200,000 deaths annually. Sepsis is a complex condition that results from an infectious process that
represents the body s response to infection and involves systemic inflammatory and cellular events
that result in altered circulation and coagulation, endothelial dysfunction and impaired tissue perfusion
(Kleinpell, 2005). Associated mortality rates with sepsis in the United States have remained largely
unchanged for several decades. Through an international collaboration known as the ... Show more

Treatment of Sepsis
As stated in Rivers, Nguyed, Havstad, Ressler, Muzzin, Knolich et al. (2001):
Early hemodynamic assessment on the basis of physical findings, vital signs, central venous pressure,
and urinary output fails to detect persistent global tissue hypoxia. A more definitive resuscitation
strategy involves goal oriented manipulation of cardiac preload, afterload, and contractility to achieve
a balance between systemic oxygen delivery and oxygen demand. End points used to confirm the
achievement of such a balance (hereafter called resuscitation end points) include normalized values
for mixed venous oxygen saturation, arterial lactate concentration, base deficit, and pH. Mixed venous
oxygen saturation has been shown to be a surrogate for the cardiac index as a target for hemodynamic
therapy. In cases in which the insertion of a pulmonary artery catheter is impractical, venous oxygen
saturation can be measured in the central circulation (p. 1368).
The focus for the general care nurse outside of the ICU is to be able to recognize sepsis and to initiate
appropriate interventions in an appropriate amount of time. Nurses need to facilitate the transfer of the
patient to an ICU as urgently as possible. Once sepsis is suspected, it is important to closely monitor
patients for signs and symptoms of progression with increasing frequency of assessments. While
awaiting transfer of a patient to the ICU

Nt1310 Unit 3 Systems Paper
Hello, my name is Robert Parker, and I was sent over by the IT consultant firm you just hired to give
you a comparison and contrast of the three main OS systems you may choose to use within your
company. The three we have chosen are Microsoft, Linux and Mac OS. Mas OS has been around the
longest, and then Microsoft, these are the main two that most companies use today. Not to say one is
better than the other, for it is mainly up to what the company s mission is and what is needed to
accomplish that mission.

on the command line, and most people do not know or understand command line text. Linux does not
have a great number of vendor selling their computer or software, so there is not a good support
system for it.
One of the good thing about it is that it is free to use and distribute to your other computers. Linux is
not a fully operation system, and it needs additional software in order for it to work to its full
potential. There are so many different packages, that there will be one that will fit you needs. Even

The Wife Monologue
It was a cold and windy September 17 in Denton, Maryland. The year was 1997. Kurt was working in
the field like he does everyday. His wife, Beth, could see him from the house. He could hear from a
distance his two daughters playing in the yard. It was their birthday today.
He remembered back to when the girls were born. The doctor said Beth was pregnant with a baby boy,
and out came two special girls. These girls were not just special in the Daddy s little angels kind of
way. They were both born with superpowers. Glenda came out glowing blue. She had beautiful blue
eyes and a fair complexion with hair that was white as snow. Sutton came out glowing red. She had
bright red lips, dark brown eyes, and silky black hair. Both girls were a blessing ... Show more content

headed to the patio which was located 4 stories from the sidewalk below. Shutterbug climbed the
railing and steadied her balance. She took one last big breath and jumped into flight.
On her way to the White House she was reminiscing on all of her reasons why she was doing this.
Shutterbug wanted respect. She hated that her sister was always the favorite. Glenda was perfect in
every way. Their parents favored Glenda. Glenda got to go to the wealthy aunt and uncle, and she was
now married to the President. What more could she become? Something had to change. Shutterbug
had decided it was better to be feared than loved, and now she was going to be feared by all.
Shutterbug could see the White House in the distance. People were scrambling all over the place.
Someone must have seen her coming. Picking up speed, she plummeted down at the front gate. People
were fleeing all around her, except the White House security. Nobody knew her intentions, but

Billy Elliot Strictly Ballroom Quotes
1. The title Strictly Ballroom gives us the idea impression of very stern rules in a very rigid strict
environment with many expectations restrictions. It also implies the concept of very orthodox
textbook ballroom dancing which is very stiff done exactly in a specific way which it s expected to be
done.
2. Billy Elliot is set in north eastern England during the 1984 1985 coal miners strike, this is very
important to acknowledge because it has a great impact on Billy his circumstances. It is seen that Billy
his family live in the lower income sectors or England where there are no trees or grass everything
looks very dull grey, also all the houses are very close together, in the neighborhood time that Billy

3. By looking at both Jackie Elliot, Billy s father as well as Shirley Hastings, Scott s mother, we can
see that both of them are very vicarious parents, as they live their dreams through their children expect
their children to live act in a specific way that they particularly desire such as with Shirley Scott, she
has made him do ballroom since he was a little child has forced him to compete in the way that she
wants so that he may achieve goals such as championships such as the Pan Pacific Grand Prix, which
she aspired to once winning which are actually her personal goals which she was not able to achieve
on her own, so she forces Scott to dance the way that she would that she wants him to in the hope that
he would achieve these goals on her behalf as she is living through her child Scott. Jackie Elliot also
pressures his son Billy to do boxing as he gives Billy his fathers boxing gloves expects him to follow
in the same footsteps as his family is known to be good boxers. Jackie himself is a very masculine
male expects his son to be the same, he wants his son to be masculine do wrestling, football, or boxing
but does not want him to do ballet because he is ashamed of it it is definitely not something that he
would ever do.

Norman Bowie s The Land Ethic
According to Wikipedia a land ethic is a philosophy that seeks to guide the actions when humans use
or make changes to the land. Contrary to the three views of corporate responsibility, the philosopher
Norman Bowie believes that businesses have no special obligation to the environment except those
defined by the law. And dolphins should be considered to be non human persons as they are highly
intelligent, almost identical to humans. Aldo Leopold tries to explain how we are ethically and morally
obligated to take care of our resources. The Land Ethic Leopold explains how we have viewed the
land as, strictly economic, entailing privileges but not obligations . This is the main statement he

Everything is bigger in Texas. That s what a lot of Texans what Americans and people around the
world to know you don t mess with Texas. In the 1950 s, when President Eisenhower created the first
Interstate plan for the country and implemented new roads in almost every single state, it was the
largest engineering feat in the modern world. Now, almost half a century later, Governor Rick Perry is
set to break that record, with the costliest, largest, and most incredible sized proportion Texas Trans

Laredo contains 40% of the United States land ship import traffic. Also, any traveler on the I 35
corridor in Texas runs into hundreds of eighteen wheelers, increasing drivers awareness and causing
disarray for drivers who are trying to see the road in front of them. Perry s answer is to shift the traffic
away from metropolitan areas. If truck drivers can bypass San Antonio, Austin, and Dallas, the time to
their destination would probably save them an entire day in travel. Freight rail services could veer
away from San Antonio s railroad yard, an institution bustling with activity in the wee hours of the
morning. Also, commuter rail can solve environmental problems and help families keep in touch
anywhere in the state without the over burdening costs of driving (Perry). Perry s plan begins with the
setup itself: Six, twelve foot vehicle passenger lanes in which the vehicle can travel at 80 miles per
hour; Four, thirteen foot truck lanes; Two tracks for each of the following railroad establishments high
speed rail, commuter rail, and freight rail. No transportation facility exists like this in the modern
world. All of these integrations to modern society are completely bundled into one, and their concept
is all the same relieve traffic in urban centers and create a safe and enjoyable experience through the

Teenage Suicide Is Becoming Increasingly More Common
A young person dying for any reason is a tragedy, so when a teenager takes his or her own life due to
frustrations, hopelessness, or loss of self worth, it is completely devastating. Young people today are
having to grow up in a world with high stress levels, confusion, discouragement, and pain; sometimes
it is just too hard for them to handle. Perhaps it is not surprising that teenage suicide is becoming
increasingly more common. Suicide has become the third leading causing of death in adolescents
today. All around the world teenagers are attempting to take, or successfully taking, their own lives for
many reasons, including forms of content on the Internet. A story published in The Ledger written by
Stephanie Allie demonstrates how this, unfortunately, happened to be true for 12 year old, Rebecca
Sedwick. On the morning of September 9th, 2013, instead of getting on the school bus, Rebecca
walked to an abandoned cement plant. The 12 year old climbed to the top of a silo and jumped off,
killing herself instantly. Later, Rebecca s mother, Traci, told police that her daughter had been bullied
by a group of middle school girls. Further investigation showed that for over a year, Rebecca received
hateful text messages and Facebook posts from these girls, harassing, taunting, and humiliating her.
Some of the messages went as far as telling Rebecca to endure bodily harm, and that she did not
deserve to live. The girls treated Rebecca horribly all because she started dating someone

Persuasive Essay On Babysitter
A big issue today is parents not being able to get a trusted, reliable, and certified babysitter. It s hard
for parents to trust other people with their children, especially teenagers. The typical teenage
babysitter is not CPR certified, spends most of the time on their phone, and doesn t have activities for
the kids to do. A typical teenage babysitter will spend most of his/her time on their phone and not
playing with the children. To back this up, 69% of people say good babysitters are hard to find, and
55% of parents say they had to stay home because they couldn t find a babysitter. Also, if parents can
not find a babysitter they then have to decide to either bring their kids with them, or call a family
member which is inconvenient especially if it s short notice. While finding a trusted and reliable
babysitter is difficult for parents A 2 C Babysitting makes that process easier. We are the solution to

Detroit Is Not A Blank Canvas
Some people believe that Detroit is comparable to a blank canvas. A place where an opportunity is
lurking right around the corner. They imagine it as a deserted place, in which a businessman can create
anything they dream of. However, the harsh reality is, Detroit is not a blank canvas. It has been
splattered with an era of prominence, scribbled on with the invention of the automobile, and engraved
with a history of racism and corruption. Although much of Detroit s glory has been stripped away,
there are still people who exist in the city s remnants. Actual people, with actual families, actual
homes, and actual lives. When outsiders talk about the city s revival, they are often forgetting about
these people, or the actual citizens of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many factors to point blame at when considering Detroit s failure. A city that was dependent
on manufacturing cars was bound to flounder when the factories moved elsewhere. Tensions among
races became prevalent throughout the city, ending with whites moving into the suburbs. Corruption
consumed the city s government, and the leaders led the city into the ground. The aftermath of these
actions have been thrown upon the people who stayed in the city of Detroit. These people are living in
unsafe conditions due to the fact crime rates are so high, and the police presence is so scarce. The
children are apart of a failing education system; the foundation of the buildings aren t up to public
health code, they have limited resources, and a lack of teachers willing to work. When talking about
the future of Detroit, where does one see the future for these people? Why is there a new hockey arena
being built, while the deteriorating schools are being left to fall apart? Large sums of money are being
poured into the city s assets, but the investors are forgetting the most important asset of Detroit, it s
people.
When talking about the endless opportunities Detroit has to offer, one common plan is the idea of
Detroit becoming a tourist city. Investors view downtown as a diverse entertainment district, with an
array of theatres, museums, casinos

The Ancient Aztecs Complex and Advanced Civilization. The Aztecs were a civilization that emerged
in Mesoamerica around the start of the thirteenth century and existed until 1521 CE. The Aztecs had
their own system of government, a very complex religion, and sports and games were very important
to the civilization. The Aztecs were a civilization that was complex as well as very advanced in many
different areas of their civilization such as their government, religion, and sports. An area of the
Aztecs civilization that was very complex and advanced was their government. The Aztec government
was similar to a monarchy where an Emperor or King was the primary ruler showing that their
government was very advanced as it was similar to a form of government that is still used today (

Argument Essay On Abortion
The abortion argument is always a tough split decision. Some people lean towards pro life and some
towards pro choice. The pro life group believes that every fetus should be kept alive since they are a
developing human, and every human has a right to life. The pro choice believe that if it s the woman s
body it should be her choice, especially in a case of rape. For my stance on the argument I stand with
both pro life and pro choice due to certain arguments. These arguments came about after the Supreme
Court case of Roe vs. Wade.
The court case of Roe vs. Wade was decided in 1973 and under the fourteenth amendment abortion
became legal. This court case started when a woman wanted to get an abortion in the state of Texas
but abortions were only legal if it was for a medical reason. The woman did not have a medical reason
but she stated that due to her mental health and not being able to take contraceptives she should be
allowed to have an abortion. The court has then ruled a 7 to 2 vote that abortions are legal in the first
trimester, and the second and third would be ruled by the state. Since the legalization of abortion from
the Supreme Court case Roe vs. Wade, there have been over 54 million babies subjected to death by
abortion. Deaths due to abortion are said to be higher than those from the Holocaust, other major 20th
century genocides and even some World War II fatalities. The decision of the Roe vs. Wade case has
denied unborn babies the right to life which we should

Case Study of Carnival Corporation
The history of the Carnival Corporation begins in 1972, when Ted Arison set up Carnival Cruise Lines

remained steadfast in achieving his vision of a cruise line offering affordable vacation packages to
middle income consumers. By 1977, Carnival had three ships, and ten years later, as the industry
leader, the company went public. In the early 1990s, Carnival began to diversify into land based

In general, the cruise industry will continue to search for innovative ways to increase passenger

What Are The Three Branches Of The Federal Government Essay
The United States of America, commonly known as the U.S., is a federal republic that is comprised of
50 individual states. The states created a single central authority call the Federal Government.
Although each state has their own laws and government structure, the federal government is
empowered to act on the states behalf on a select set of issues. The areas of federal control are defined
in the United States constitution. As a safety precaution against the federal government becoming too
influential, the framers of the constitution separated the powers of the federal government into three
branches of government. The first branch is the executive branch. The executive branch of the U.S.

charge of interpreting the laws that are passed by the legislative branch. As stated previously, the

and approving laws but also confirms or rejects the executive branches appointments and has the
ability to declare war. Congress consist of two chambers, the Senate and the House of Representatives.

Symbolism In The Bean Trees
Human nature is the psychological similarities and thought processes of humans. Key examples of this
in The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver are social groups, the desire of freedom, and self growth.
Conversation and symbolism in the setting illustrate these instincts.
Humans instinctively separate into groups resembling themselves. In our school there were different
groups you would run with, depending on your station in life... The poor kids... We were called
Nutters... The most important rule was that there was no mixing. Do you understand what I mean? ...
Yes, he said. In India they have something called the caste system. Members of different castes cannot
marry or even eat together. The lowest caste is called the Untouchables. (Kingsolver, 133). Despite
living distant childhoods, both Estevan and Taylor understood social division and its rules of
disconnecting from other circles.
Freedom is another human instinct displayed by Kingsolver. He told me that the national symbol of
Guatemala was the quetzal, a beautiful green bird... I had seen military macaws at the zoo, and

Coming Of Age Quotes
You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view until you climb
into his skin and walk around in it (Chapter 3). This quote was taken from the novel To Kill A
Mockingbird, written by Harper Lee. Throughout the novel, Jem and Scout begin their journey to the
coming of age as they interact and learn more about Boo Radley and the secrets of the Radley Manor.
This key scene significantly contributes to their coming of age because as Scout learns to consider
other people s perspectives, she gains a wider view on the world and the people who live in it. She
becomes more conscious of the actions she chooses to make and how they affect her, as well as the
people who surround her.
Throughout the novel, there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One character that shows a strong motif is Dolphus Raymond, who teaches Scout that what you see on
the outside, may not be exactly what is truly there. He is portrayed as a drunk man who doesn t care
about anything and has a Co Cola bottle full of whiskey in there (Chapter 16) with him at all times. He
is a man that Maycomb county takes as a joke. But when further reading, you find out that his coke
bottle really is filled with just coke as stated by Scout in chapter nineteen, You mean all you drink in
that sack s Coca Cola? Just plain Coca Cola? . He lets others believe what they want to about him
because he has a black wife, and that wasn t acceptable to society during the nineteen twenties. He
would rather let them think that his actions are due to his alcoholism, and not his free mind because
having a black woman as a wife was illegal. These motifs are littered throughout the entirety of the
book. Atticus s advice is shown in this situation because Scout is learning more and more about why
people do things. She learned that people have reasons for the actions that they do and that she cannot
judge someone based off of rumors, like she had done prior with Mr. Boo

My Application For South Africa
My Application for South Africa 2016 The first time I was introduced to South Africa was last year
during choir. For choir we sang a South African ritual. This enticed me to look into the culture of
South Africa to find out more things about my new found interest. During this investigation I found
out that South Africa is prominent for their unique wild life, it is the only country which has hosted the
world cup for cricket, rugby, and soccer, the vast history due to the colonialization of Africa by
Europe, and the luxurious bodies of water found in South Africa. Also during my research, I found out
that Woodberry offers an exchange program in South Africa. I became extremely interested in this

These include Nelson Mandela s house, Robben Island, Groot Constantia, The Company s Garden,

one of my favorite subjects.
Another major part of South Africa is the sports seen there. South Africa s main sports are rugby,
cricket, and soccer. I am a huge sports fanatic, however I am not as interested in South African sports
as I would like to be. South Africa has such a dedication to its sports that it is the only country which
has hosted the world cup in rugby, soccer, and cricket. South Africa hosted the rugby world cup in
1995, the cricket world cup in 2003, and the soccer world cup in 2010. I would love to see the
locations of where these important games were played, which brings me to my next point, South
Africa s unique sights. South Africa is also known for its breathtaking sights which include the Kruger
National Park, Table Mountain, Blyde River Canyon, and the Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game Reserve just
to name a few. At these sights you can either see the unique animals of South Africa in their natural
habitat, or look over all of South Africa from the mountain and the canyon. The culture of South
Africa is one of the major reasons why I would love to be able to participate in this unique
opportunity. I also think I would be the right choice for this program due to the person that I am. If I

Why I Came To Canada
I worked in video game company in Korea for 5 years and the video game that I mainly developed
was an online game. One day, I wanted to know how video game companies in another country

How to take notes
I have tried to take a note and highlighted points that I think it is important. I have also started to run
point on something that I would ask if I were an interviewer. I started to study while I ask my
classmates if there is something that I did not understand after taking notes. I applied for a part time
job as a tutor in the college because I could make money and I can also study while I was teaching my
classmates about programming. Finally, my grade started to get higher and I aced all courses except
for one course past two semesters.
However, my English has not been improved rather than I expected. I have made an attempt to make a
conversation with my friends and studied vocabularies hard but I could get nowhere. So, one of my
plan for this year is improving my English speaking. Of course, other plans that finishing two projects
before graduation and graduating with flying colours are still being progressed. But my final goal is
being a video game programmer in Canada.

MBA Goals

The MBA program is a new field of study to me, as I have no experience in this filed. I may have

My first goal is to obtain a MBA degree with a high GPA, as I am willing to put all the effort and time

Bell Jar Figurative Language
In the passage, the character of Esther Greenwood represents the struggle of women trying to hold
their place in a modern, yet conservative society. Author Sylvia Plath uses the character of Esther
Greenwood and figurative language to portray the disarming role of society in the 1950s. The Bell Jar
revolves around Esther who is a wonderful student and an aspiring poet. She clearly struggles with
societies expectations which tell her to be both educated and a homemaker. The dichotomies of her
society leave Esther bitter and unable to decide a future for herself. Plath uses Esther s point of view
to reveal the internal struggle felt by many women, including herself, due to the restraints of
contemporary society. She holds herself to impossible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Esther thinks to herself, I felt like a racehorse in a world without racetracks or a champion college
footballer suddenly confronted by Wall Street and a business suit, his days of glory shrunk to a little
gold cup on his mantel with a date engraved on it like the date on a tombstone . The imagery is
astounding and morbid at the same time. The references to helplessness and death are evident as
Esther feels herself pushed and pulled in many directions, all that do not have any basis. Her future
lies in her getting good grades, going to a good college, but not to pursue her dream as a poet,
something she excels in, but rather to find a good man and discard her years of effort in order to please
him. This all leads to the fig tree which symbolizes all of the potential Esther has as a woman. She can
pick whichever path she wants, a wife an editor and explorer, yet I saw myself sitting in the crotch of
this fig tree, starving to death, just because I couldn t make up my mind which of the figs I would
choose . Esther is so torn between the wants of society and those of her own that she is unable to
decide. She doesn t want to disappoint her mother so she keeps on agreeing with the pretentious
fiancee Buddy Willard. Yet the words of her magazine editor, a successful yet lonely older woman
named Jay Cee, still haunt her as well, telling her that learning another

The Importance Of Bias In Ken Macleod
Few contemporary authors have had as profound an effect on their genre, society, political debate, or
literature in general as Robert Heinlein. Science fiction novelist Ken Macleod suggests that the world
was having a dialogue with Heinlein, unfortunately, one of the unintentional ramifications of dialogue
is misunderstanding, one cause of this is reader bias (Macleod et al. 231). Bias is most corrosive to
readers understanding when brought to their initial reading, consequently, they should avoid it for at
least three reasons; first, it causes a work or author to be regarded in many contradicting ways; second,
it creates an atmosphere in which faulty arguments are made; and third, it results in significant
elements of the story being ignored. One caveat, readers should not construe this in such a way as to
imply that the arguments presented here are merely about the book itself, so much as being about the
overall scope of it in relation to Heinlein and the bias levied for or against the book and him. Of
additional consideration is the impact those biases had on the overall message as well as the meaning
of the work itself and to further extrapolate this into how bias affects other works. It is important to
recognize that in this context, bias is any tendency to judge something either more or less favorably
based on preexisting notions rather than upon the supporting data. It is equally important to
understand that the human mind looks for patterns, the term for this

The Golden Age Of Ancient Greece
The Hellenic era was known as the age of classical Greece. This was the time of the great Golden Age
of Greece and the image of Ancient Greece. The free state was men who owned the soil that they ruled
and governed the state had stabilized Athens and the Golden Age. Everyone in the Hellenic era made
the most important contribution to the western civilization. The gods had an important role in the era.
The great works of art were created for the gods and goddesses of the greeks such as the statue of
Venus of Cyrene and Pericles with the corinthian helmet. Venus of Cyrene has a very ancient
background from the Greeks. In the Ancient Greece, the colony of Cyrene that was founded in 631 BC

when rains washed away the topsoil where Trajan s bath had played. When they had discovered the
statue it was then transported to Rome. The statue was seen as Aphrodite who was rising from the sea
because the arms were beside the body so that the hands were free to get out the water from the hair
with the free hands. After Venus of Cyrene was returned back to Libya was an important situation for
two innovative court decisions that helped see the issue of returning the cultural objects that were
taken away during the colonialism. The statue also being retuned helped with protecting and getting a

Tender Is Night Character Analysis
The Tragic Downfall of Promising Psychiatrist Dick Diver
The work of F. Scott Fitzgerald The Tender is Night shows us how a character having strong qualities
such as education and career may collapse in search of entering into a new world which results in
hamartia or a fatal flaw. It is the protagonist young American Doctor Dick Diver s tragic downfall
which attracts many critics attention on the work who is an educated promising psychiatrist and
traveling man that shuttles between Vienna and Zurich in the pursuit of to be a good psychologist
maybe to be the greatest one that ever lived (Fitzgerald 147). It can be considered as an irony that as a
talented psychiatrist Dick Diver who has a published book A Psychology for Psychiatrists and has
ambitious desire in finding out ways for the mental illnesses Diver s himself ironically gets caught to a
kind of mental illness that causes his frustration. In this perspective, in the novel the protagonist Diver
s trauma is considered in a way as a good example for many psychiatrists who are in search of causes
and solutions for mental illnesses together with Nicole character in the novel. According to Bruccoli,
the novel is a new plot set in Europe about an American psychiatrist who is ruined by his marriage to a
wealthy mental patient (Bruccoli 330) while some critics consider the novel as breakdowns:
breakdowns in marriage, friendships, and individuals (Lucas 89). It has been argued that the title of
Fitzgerald s novel Tender Is the Night has taken it from the work of John Keats s Ode to A
Nightingale. According to William E. Doherty the novel Tender Is the Night also gets its essence from
Keat s work.
The title of the novel and the epigraph Fitzgerald offers illuminate the significance of night and
darkness in the story. An enquiry reveals a complicated and careful symbolic structure in Tender Is the
Night involving a contrast between the night and the day, darkness and light (6)
Although the novel is the last completed work of Fitzgerald one of the difficulties that the novel
presents is its ambiguity in understanding the chronological order of the work. While in the
masterpiece of Fitzgerald The Great Gatsby the protagonist Gatsby s downfall

The Daffodils Comparison
Two poems that share or have a similar meaning are quot; The Daffodils quot; written by William
Wordsworth and quot;Miracle on St David #39;s Day quot; written by Gillian Clarke. Both writers
wrote their poems in different times but share a very similar meaning. The poem quot; The Daffodils
quot; inspired
quot;Miracle on St David #39;s Day quot; that William Wordsworth wrote creates a unique situation,
which occurs in Clarke #39;s poem. William Wordsworth had never seen the daffodils in which he
wrote about in his poem. Although with a unique imagination and a few details that he has, William
Wordsworth could use the details and create it into a special and unique poem which sets for a
beautiful scenery. Which allows the reader to participate and feel the true beauty of the scene. In the
poem, a conflict presents itself in the beginning of the poem, when he uses such specific words that
are very contradictory with other parts of the poem such as when he describes not being so alone, but
with other people in the other parts of the poem.
The beginning of the first poem focuses on the writer #39;s use of a strong imagination to create a
multitude and vivid set of pictures that you can imagine yourself. The happiness he gains from
creating these images in his mind, fulfill him up with even more happiness and joy.
Likewise, Clarke #39;s experience is very similar in that it s also heartwarming and joyful, it involves
many people just like William s poem. In the poem, the daffodils by William s technique is to
reconstruct an imaginary trip in which he flies above the countryside. Showing the good side of
Garcia 2 things and the good side of his mood. He describes the location of the daffodils and identifies
them by quoting something he distinctly remembers. Their beauty not only affects him and his
emotions but also the rest of the environment around him. He also comments on the huge ability that
these daffodils have raised the human spirits, and in parts of the poem he makes it very obvious that
he has been completely unaware of the huge impact the daffodils would have had on him and how
William, in the future would continuously visit this imaginary scene he has created for himself and
learn from it. William

Science And The Art Of Science
A couple of years ago my daughter, who will graduate with a degree in biology from UC Santa Cruz
this June, shared a pivotal quote with me. The quote, by nature philosopher Vladimir Nabokov, states,
There is a high ridge where the mountainside of scientific knowledge joins the opposite slope of
artistic imagination; where precision of poetry and the art of science can meet. She said it reminded
her of all the years she watched me with my students, exploring and healing wild places. This was,
and is, one of the most profound compliments I have ever received. There is a multitude of ways to
approach teaching students about our Earth, some technical, some artistic, some spiritual, but to effect
lasting change, one has to touch on all three. Throughout my 23 years as an environmental educator, I
have often said my true goal is to guide students toward a love and desire to protect our planet and
each other the science they learn is a happy side effect. But side effects can have lasting effects, and
make no mistake the science is critical. Hooking students emotionally, though, opens their minds to
the science, to a desire to know the world around them, to a willingness to absorb the science because
it explains what they love. As educators, volunteers, and docents, our challenge is to create that high
ridge for students, to teach natural history in an imaginative, artistic way one that presents science as a
form of poetry from the heart. It is hard to ignore the cries

Urban Alienation in Ian McEwan s The Cement Garden Essay
Urban Alienation in Ian McEwan s The Cement Garden
It was not at all clear to me now why we had put her in the trunk in the first place. At the time it had
been obvious, to keep the family together. Was that a good reason? It might have been more
interesting to be apart. Nor could I think whether what we had done was an ordinary thing to do
In this essay I shall be examining the socio cultural context of The Cement Garden by Ian McEwan
(1948 ). Once placed within context, an examination of the internal worlds of the bereaved children
will follow. Attention is given to events from the perspective of Jack, the adolescent narrator and an
exploration is made of how the individual interior world of each child fuses into the others and ...

McEwan thus catapults the reader directly into the tormented mental world of Jack. We then only
observe the external world of Jack and his siblings from his single viewpoint. All is filtered through
his lonely and questionable perception. McEwan thus leaves it to the reader to analyse the action of
the novel from the filter of Jack s naïve, twisted but prevailing perspective. This creates a sense of the
claustrophobia that pervades the boy s world. The discomfort that readers feel parallels and prepares
them for Jack s anguished, alienated and contained inner world. The family, even before the parents
death, is divided within itself and isolated from other people. Thus Jack s lonely voice lends the
narration an air of obsessive and unhealthy emphasis on the very factors that create, generate and
sustain the isolated obsessions dominating this family.
The writer s concentrated narrative makes the cultural and social location of the family difficult to
determine. We know they are disassociated from mainstream society as a family unit, but individually
they attend work and school, so what makes them different as a group, and in what way is the family
different from wider society? We are told that they are a white family living on the decayed outskirts
of an unnamed British city. We are not told the father s occupation, but we

Analysis Of Redemption At Hacksaw Ridge
Undeniably, the book Redemption at Hacksaw Ridge by Booton Herndon is an interesting yet
enlightening read which follows Desmond Doss heroic actions during World War 2. This book is a
biography of Desmond Doss who always wished to become a medic, but never received much
education as a child. When Doss was one step closer to his dream, he was outcasted and tolerated
torture from other soldiers who refused to accept that he is a conscientious objector. The setting of this
book first takes place in Virginia, where Doss was born, but the majority of the book takes place at a
steep, jagged cliff called the Hacksaw Ridge. The main character of this book is Desmond Doss. He
was born in Virginia, and grew up with a drunk and abusive father. He always dreamed of becoming a
medic, but never had much schooling. Doss became even more determined to become one when he
went to the hospital and met the love of his life, Dorothy. Doss would always ask Dorothy medical
questions on dates, and so she gave him a book, in which he studied from. He saw many friends and
other men from his town being sent off to war, and he wanted to join them too. Doss convinced his
father, who is a veteran, to let him join war, but when he tries to change Doss mind, he was
unsuccessful. No one could change Doss will including Dorothy, and he eventually prepares to join
war. When he joins war he has to go through various training programs, but fails the rifle test, as he

This can drive a person to think that their country is the most powerful, and in essence drives that
person mad with power and a hunger to conquer, which not ironically is exactly what many countries
did. Social Darwinism is the very idea that a more powerful country conquer the smaller countries.

Then there s the negative which may take away a colony s individuality and spark rebellion. Britain s
a great example because we see an economic growth and a modernization of India, but we also see the
rights of the people slowly fading into the shadows. Britain took over India after a brief struggle with
France; initially to aid in its economy; mainly its textiles. The plan was to have Indians harvest raw
materials to ship back to Britain. Britain would therefore have cheap raw materials sent back to them;
because India was mercantilist (could only trade with the mother country) they did not have much of a
choice but to sell to Britain cheaply. Britain therefore always had a steady source of raw materials
Britain would turn raw materials into finished products that it would ship back to India and sell to
Indians. Prices for goods were low and Indians liked that, but also Britain had a steady source of
income. The most useful Indian industry for Britain was its cotton industry; Britain often used Indian
cotton for clothing. India made for a cheap way to assemble (cheap labor) and an easy way to get
business. For Britain, there was barely a negative side to imperializing in India. British citizen did not
change the way they went about their day at all. Prices of goods dropped which, of course made life
easy, but nobody lost sleep over the colonization. Britain s

Compassion Fatigue: Caring for the Caregiver Introduction
Compassion represents an acknowledgement of another s suffering and is accompanied by the
expression of a desire to ease or end that suffering. (Van der Cingal, 2009, p. 124) This is a
fundamental characteristic usually found in health care workers and nurses especially. In one twelve
hour shift, a nurse s job can change from taking vitals and administering medications to performing
life saving measures ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Physical rest, nutrition and exercise are some of these needs and if denied, the body will eventually
become too exhausted to function properly. The most common symptoms of this are fatigue not
relieved with sleep, insomnia and irritability. If left untreated, physical exhaustion can lead to physical
ailments such as dizziness, colds, headaches, chronic pain, and digestive problems and even impaired
functioning of other body systems. (Espeland, 2006, p. 180) Emotional Exhaustion
Similar to physical exhaustion, emotional exhaustion results from depletion of emotional resources
and failure to restore one s own emotional equilibrium. (Moore, 2009, p. 1) In today s busy society the
demands of life, job and family can be excessive and overwhelming. Combine these demands with the
additional stressors of caring for another person or persons, increased demands of productivity with
decreased personnel and the unrealistic expectations of one s self or others and place all of this burden
on one person, this would adequately describe the 21st century nurse. Nurses are continually engaged
in emotional relationships with patients and their families which call upon the nurse to be in a constant
supporting role. One reaches emotional exhaustion when this burden becomes too heavy to carry

Reza Shah s Abolition Of The Pahlavi Dynasty In Iran
At the turn of 1925, Reza Shah began the Pahlavi dynasty in Iran. He is mostly known for his attempts
in modernizing Iran on the basis of the West. With this in mind, Reza Shah showed some of the
biggest reform movements throughout Iranian society. One reform, such as greater access to higher
education for women at Tehran University, show significant gains compared to previous years in Iran.
One of the biggest points of controversy in the course of Reza Shah s rule was the abolition of the
chador and the enforcement of unveiling. The chador is a traditional staple of women s clothing in
Iranian culture that only shows the face from the brow line, and drapes over the body from head to toe
like a veil. Under the circumstances, unveiling did not

Essay On Service Design
Legacy systems built with specific design principles that can hinder the IT department when they
begin to update or make changes to upgrade the software. Integration of these legacy systems became
an issue in the late 90s when little was done to prepare organizations on how their data would be
shared through other platforms (Erl, 2008). This issue introduced many an array of problems for
organizations, especially when trying to convert into a larger scale model of previous designs. The
lack of stability, extensibility, and inadequate interoperability of frameworks are just a few of the
noted problems when enterprises attempt to adopt SOA on a larger scale (Erl, 2008). The acceptance

The services created will allow consumers the access to the most up to date products while giving the
enterprise the correct data for further advancement in technology and business. Short term solutions to
software can lead to numerous problems. The number one issue has the IT team trying to diagnose an
issue in limited amounts of time. The software can be complicated to understand thus limiting the
amount of time spent on designing the application could result in errors in the processes for the
enterprise. Also, short term operations eliminate the opportunity to reduce cost and increase
production times for the organizations. Ultimately, short term procedures do not allow the time for real
time decisions as well as the time to develop compatible software. In conclusion, a successful
investment will revolve around the amount of time invested in the products. An organization must
devote ample time for a product to reap the maximum amount of benefits. Time equals money and to
get a favorable return an enterprise must put in the time to see any gains from their investment.

John Bowlby s Theories of Attachment Theory
John Bowlby had worked with residential school children as a volunteer early on in his career and had
determined that the children who suffered the most from anger outbursts, aggressivity, and whom her
termed affectionless were also the children who had suffered the most maternal deprivation (). Bowlby
advanced that the loss of the mother figure was extremely distressing and damaging and could
influence adults behavior years later. Hence, where psychoanalysis had been concerned solely with the
imaginings of the childish mind, the fantasied pleasures and the dreaded retributions (Fonagy),
Bowlby showed that humans do not develop in a void or as individual monads but as members of
interacting systems. Bowlby developed his theory on attachment for several decades, and at a time
where any dealings with childhood trauma were still rigorously influenced by Freudian
psychoanalysis through the likes of psychoanalysts such Anna Freud or Melanie Klein. Even
Winnicott was revulsed upon reading Bowlby s papers (siegel). It certainly was a bitter pill to swallow
for psychoanalysts who had been repeating since Freud that the newborn was a little tyrant fighting for
oral gratification at the mother s breast and merely clinging on to fulfil sexual instinctual needs.
Bowlby s work was thus eschewed for a considerable time, despite his involvement with the World
Health Organisation and the considerable empirical weight that was added to his findings by Mary
Ainsworth s studies in

Taking a Look at Celtic Music
Celtic Music
When Celtic music comes to mind, nowadays, the first thing people think of is something to do with
maybe something to do with the group Riverdance, a famous Irish step dancing group, the Irish
musician, Enya. Celtic music has almost become more of the New Age music, the relaxing and
soothing comfort music that people feel the need to listen to when they relax, or just to escape from
reality, but it used to be something else before it has evolved into New Age Music . It is as almost if
people have forgotten what Celtic music really was and changed it from what it originally was.
Celtic music, to most of the musicians of the past consider Celtic music to be classified as traditional
music; the traditional musicians and composers are actually offended in modern times because now
using the word Celtic almost as a marketing technique, if it has a lick of something pertaining to
Ireland, throw it in the Celtic music category at the record store, and the traditionalist feel like that the
entertainment industry are basically bastardizing what they felt was more important than making a
quick buck, thus making people really forget where and how Celtic music got started. It can be easy
for people to think that Celtic music is originated in one specific country, but that is not the case. So
what exactly IS traditional Celtic music? Not to be confused with the basketball team, the Boston
Celtics, which the pronounced with the soft c pronunciation, so literally

Ancient Greek Anthropology
From an early age, we ,as humans, are constantly judging and analyzing our surroundings. From the
time we are babies to when we are old and tired, we have a sort of gut instinct which guides us. Some
call it our fight or flight instinct, while others don t care to give it a name. This feeling has us
constantly judging and analyzing everyday situations and tasks to provide both safety and well being.
Throughout our primary and secondary educations, these ideas are emphasized and fine tuned so that
we don t judge just the safety of situations, but also everything from English essays to mathematical
questions in a cookie cutter fashion. That is, we try to fit an over generalized guideline or rubric to
every problem. As we are born to judge and analyze, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author of the article, Paul M.E. Shutler, states that of all topics in the history of mathematics,
Egyptian mathematics is the most overlooked. He continues that this is due to our eagerness to
translate these ancient problems into their modern equivalent and then regard it as we would the work
of a high school student, as either correct or incorrect. As we can see, this is not only a problem which
hinders our ability to gain deeper insights on the past, but also opens the door for us to simply brush
off and categorize the magnificent solutions that the Egyptian mathematicians came up with nearly
4,000 years ago as incorrect to our standards. Paul goes on to say that, Anyone who has actually
visited Egypt and seen at first hand the colossal scale and absolute precision of their ancient
monuments comes away, of course, with a completely different impression (Page

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Black Holes
The sixty symbols website has quite the collection of intriguing astronomical theories and interviews,
but I specifically chose that of the black hole that contains interviews by Omar Almaini, Ed Copeland,
Tony Padilla, Meghan Gray and Mike Merrifield from the University of Nottingham. The video began
by a man revealing to his audience that he is often questioned about his personal opinion on black
holes, which he informs us that of course he sees them as frightening and intimidating but goes on to
refer to them as cuddly . Upon further explanation he points out two small (but different sized), round,
black balls of fabric (that seemed to be knitted) that were gifts for his sister in law and they are meant
to be representation of black holes with their solid black exterior. This seems like a useless example,
but after thinking about it more critically I realize that I wasn t ... Show more content on

Fluoroquinolone Resistance To Antibiotic Resistance
As previously discussed, antibiotics often work by targeting critical functions of the bacterial cell.
This means that antibiotics have specific targets, which is a boon because it means non microbial life
will not be affected by the antibiotics. However, because of this specificity, bacteria can develop ways
of protecting themselves from antibiotics, leading to the rise of antibiotic resistance Like any other
organism, bacterium are subject to evolutionary pressure. Antibiotic resistance in bacteria is rarely the
result of a single mutation leading to full resistance, but rather the result of a series of mutations that
incrementally increased antibiotic resistance. For example, in the case of fluoroquinolone resistance,
resistance started with a mutation in the efflux pump, granting Streptococcus pneumoniae the ability
to survive certain treatment regimens (13). This became an issue when people started to misuse their
antibiotics. In this particular example, because patients did not follow their prescription regimens, they
only killed the bacteria not resistant to fluoroquinolone. This selective pressure drove bacteria to
further develop fluoroquinolone resistance, meaning that the initial infection remained untreated, and
would now require a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The misuse of antibiotics means that bacteria that have minor resistances survive when patients do not
follow their prescription regimens, and then they are able to flourish and spread this resistance to other
bacteria (14). This is a result of miseducation among the public about when antibiotics should be
taken. In the United States, for instance, 9% of people who take antibiotics are either taking antibiotics
that they or someone they knew had leftover (15). This is a danger because taking antibiotics when
they are not needed removes the body s natural flora that helps prevent infection and allows for
antibiotic resistant bacteria to

How to Be Successful at Composting Essay example
How to Be Successful at Composting
As an avid gardener and as someone who is conscientious of my environment, I purchased a compost
bin several years ago. I have an abundance of yard and lawn clippings that I am not willing to dump
into our already stressed landfills. In turn, my efforts for composting benefit me greatly because I can
use this finished material to improve my soil texture, the soil s ability to hold water, and as a fertilizer.
Composting is a biological process for converting organic solid wastes into a stable humus like
product. Within a compost pile, microorganisms attack organic substance, breaking it down and
producing rich organic matter (Golueke,13). For this to occur, several things need to take place, two of
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be done a number of ways. Most county agriculture departments will supply you with a soil
test kit or with a phone number to obtain a kit. There is also pH paper on the market along with a more
elaborate method known as compost extraction (Trautman).
When taking a measurement of the pH, it is important that several readings are taken because your
compost is unlikely to be homogenous. It may contain anything from sawdust and grass, to lettuce and
coffee grounds. If your pH reading is between 6 and 7.5, most plants will do well in this type of soil. If
the pH is 6 or below, the soil is probably too acidic and you will need to add lime to the compost, such
as ground chalk or a limey clay (Sines,27). This solution can be said to contain more H+ ions than OH
#8209; ions. Many plants such as azaleas, hydrangeas and blueberries love this type of soil. If the soil
has a pH above 6, it is too alkaline and contains more OH #8209; ions than H+ ions. You will need to
add brown material such as pine needles or sawdust to counter act this condition (Golueke,83).
Carbon and Nitrogen (C/N) ratio is also an important element in composting. The ratio is used to give
an indication of the speed at which organic residues in the soil are likely to be decomposing. Carbon
can be considered the food, providing an energy source and a cellular building block. Some sources of
carbon are leaves, cornstalks and twigs. Nitrogen can be considered

Glycemic Index
The glycemic index is a good measure of how carbohydrate containing food affects a person s blood
glucose levels. In was originally introduced in 1981. The general rule for Glycemic index is that low
glycemic index food was digested and absorbed slowly and high glycemic index food are rapidly
digested and absorbed. These two factors result in different glycemic responses from the body (Sun, O
Reilly, Li, and Wong, 2013, p. 1001). It is because of these reactions that many people have become
interested in seeing how the different glycemic index of food will help athletes during exercise. One of
the main ways people use the glycemic index for exercise is in their pre exercise food (Sun, O Reilly,
Li, and Wong, 2013, p. 1001). Using the glycemic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When doing this, they must result in their endurance to get them through the exercise. While, yes,
there are sports that do not necessary need a lot of endurance for, but in training most sports last long
enough that you do need some endurance. It is still beneficial to allow you to have some form of
energy to be able to use while exercising. If someone wants to be a good athlete their ability to sustain
prolonged submaximal exercise is primarily determined by fuel availability (Wong, Siu, Lok, Chen,
Morris, Lam, 2008, p. 23). The need to allow your body to be able to perform at its greatest level all
comes down to how you fuel it. When fuels with foods of a low glycemic index, it is able to store the
energy and slowly use it throughout the workout instead of being wasted in the first five minutes. It
has been shown time and time again that the offer modest post prandial insulinaemic and glycaemic
responses over high GI foods when consumed before prolonged submaximal exercise (Wong, Siu,
Lok, Chen, Morris, Lam, 2008, p. 23). This is exactly why when athletes are trying to plan what to eat
right before they are about to workout they should look for foods that have a low glycemic index. By
doing this, they are setting themselves up for having high energy for their workout and being able to
have energy that energy last longer during their

  • 3. Essay about The Collected Poems of WB Yeats Yeats, B. William. The Collected Poems of WB Yeats. New York: Macmillan, 1996. 318 The importance of this book is that it contains some of the works of poetry which were carried out by William Yeats. Arguably, the most salient feature in the book is the attempt at portraying the shift that characterized Yeats in his work, so that his works are arranged almost chronologically to underscore this standpoint. Works that depict him as a bard of the Celtic Twilight, reviving Rosicrucian symbols and legends are the most frontal. These are followed up by works which show the shift away from plush romanticism. The same are exhibited by the heavy presence of incantatory rhythms such as I will arise and go... and go to Innisfree . The same is seen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... New York: WW Norton and Company, 1975. This poem was published in 1927 and comes out as a form of meditation. The poem is rich in its scope as it covers sundry topics ranging from children, to human behavior, life in the 20th century, the philosophy on life and life after death, among others. This poem is an eight lined stanza which is heavily laden with rhymes and the use of prosaic language. The poem has been written within the context of a visitor who has walked into a classroom under the guidance of a kind elderly nun. The importance of this poem to this reading is that in it, the poet addresses the dynamism that has shaped and continues to shape the civil society, progress and modernity, as opposed to the status quo ante which predated the Civil War or the Anglo Irish War. The importance of this poem to this reading is also seen in the fact that it betrays the political ideals that Yeats had: the poem implicates the speaker as being a senator. It is in after 1924 that Yeats served as a senator. This makes the poem sound like a poem which was penned down after the civil war, given that it is written from the standpoint of a more peaceful and politically stable Ireland. Thus, the poem is also instrumental as it lets the reader in into Yeats political orientation and leanings. Thus, the many qualities Yeats had and the many fields he operated in, in terms of career are well confirmed by this poem. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gregory Chamberlain College of Nursing March28, 2009 Sepsis Early Detection and Treatment Severe Sepsis affects 750,000 Americans and causes more than 200,000 deaths annually. Sepsis is a complex condition that results from an infectious process that represents the body s response to infection and involves systemic inflammatory and cellular events that result in altered circulation and coagulation, endothelial dysfunction and impaired tissue perfusion (Kleinpell, 2005). Associated mortality rates with sepsis in the United States have remained largely unchanged for several decades. Through an international collaboration known as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Treatment of Sepsis As stated in Rivers, Nguyed, Havstad, Ressler, Muzzin, Knolich et al. (2001): Early hemodynamic assessment on the basis of physical findings, vital signs, central venous pressure, and urinary output fails to detect persistent global tissue hypoxia. A more definitive resuscitation strategy involves goal oriented manipulation of cardiac preload, afterload, and contractility to achieve a balance between systemic oxygen delivery and oxygen demand. End points used to confirm the achievement of such a balance (hereafter called resuscitation end points) include normalized values for mixed venous oxygen saturation, arterial lactate concentration, base deficit, and pH. Mixed venous oxygen saturation has been shown to be a surrogate for the cardiac index as a target for hemodynamic therapy. In cases in which the insertion of a pulmonary artery catheter is impractical, venous oxygen saturation can be measured in the central circulation (p. 1368). The focus for the general care nurse outside of the ICU is to be able to recognize sepsis and to initiate appropriate interventions in an appropriate amount of time. Nurses need to facilitate the transfer of the patient to an ICU as urgently as possible. Once sepsis is suspected, it is important to closely monitor patients for signs and symptoms of progression with increasing frequency of assessments. While awaiting transfer of a patient to the ICU ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the 1950 s, when President Eisenhower created the first Interstate plan for the country and implemented new roads in almost every single state, it was the largest engineering feat in the modern world. If truck drivers can bypass San Antonio, Austin, and Dallas, the time to their destination would probably save them an entire day in travel. Freight rail services could veer away from San Antonio s railroad yard, an institution bustling with activity in the wee hours of the morning. A story published in The Ledger written by Stephanie Allie demonstrates how this, unfortunately, happened to be true for 12 year old, Rebecca Sedwick. On the morning of September 9th, 2013, instead of getting on the school bus, Rebecca walked to an abandoned cement plant. The 12 year old climbed to the top of a silo and jumped off, killing herself instantly. Further investigation showed that for over a year, Rebecca received hateful text messages and Facebook posts from these girls, harassing, taunting, and humiliating her. They imagine it as a deserted place, in which a businessman can create anything they dream of. However, the harsh reality is, Detroit is not a blank canvas. It has been splattered with an era of prominence, scribbled on with the invention of the automobile, and engraved with a history of racism and corruption. There are many factors to point blame at when considering Detroit s failure. A city that was dependent on manufacturing cars was bound to flounder when the factories moved elsewhere. Tensions among races became prevalent throughout the city, ending with whites moving into the suburbs. Corruption consumed the city s government, and the leaders led the city into the ground. The aftermath of these actions have been thrown upon the people who stayed in the city of Detroit. These people are living in unsafe conditions due to the fact crime rates are so high, and the police presence is so scarce. The children are apart of a failing education system; the foundation of the buildings aren t up to public health code, they have limited resources, and a lack of teachers willing to work. When talking about the future of Detroit, where does one see the future for these people? Why is there a new hockey arena being built, while the deteriorating schools are being left to fall apart? Large sums of money are being poured into the city s assets, but the investors are forgetting the most important asset of Detroit, it s people. • 16. Argument Essay On Abortion The abortion argument is always a tough split decision. Some people lean towards pro life and some towards pro choice. The pro life group believes that every fetus should be kept alive since they are a developing human, and every human has a right to life. The pro choice believe that if it s the woman s body it should be her choice, especially in a case of rape. For my stance on the argument I stand with both pro life and pro choice due to certain arguments. These arguments came about after the Supreme Court case of Roe vs. Wade. The court case of Roe vs. Wade was decided in 1973 and under the fourteenth amendment abortion became legal. This court case started when a woman wanted to get an abortion in the state of Texas but abortions were only legal if it was for a medical reason. The woman did not have a medical reason but she stated that due to her mental health and not being able to take contraceptives she should be allowed to have an abortion. The court has then ruled a 7 to 2 vote that abortions are legal in the first trimester, and the second and third would be ruled by the state. Since the legalization of abortion from the Supreme Court case Roe vs. Wade, there have been over 54 million babies subjected to death by abortion. Deaths due to abortion are said to be higher than those from the Holocaust, other major 20th century genocides and even some World War II fatalities. The references to helplessness and death are evident as Esther feels herself pushed and pulled in many directions, all that do not have any basis. • 26. The Importance Of Bias In Ken Macleod Few contemporary authors have had as profound an effect on their genre, society, political debate, or literature in general as Robert Heinlein. Science fiction novelist Ken Macleod suggests that the world was having a dialogue with Heinlein, unfortunately, one of the unintentional ramifications of dialogue is misunderstanding, one cause of this is reader bias (Macleod et al. 231). Bias is most corrosive to readers understanding when brought to their initial reading, consequently, they should avoid it for at least three reasons; first, it causes a work or author to be regarded in many contradicting ways; second, it creates an atmosphere in which faulty arguments are made; and third, it results in significant elements of the story being ignored. One caveat, readers should not construe this in such a way as to imply that the arguments presented here are merely about the book itself, so much as being about the overall scope of it in relation to Heinlein and the bias levied for or against the book and him. Of additional consideration is the impact those biases had on the overall message as well as the meaning of the work itself and to further extrapolate this into how bias affects other works. It is important to recognize that in this context, bias is any tendency to judge something either more or less favorably based on preexisting notions rather than upon the supporting data. It is the protagonist young American Doctor Dick Diver s tragic downfall which attracts many critics attention on the work who is an educated promising psychiatrist and traveling man that shuttles between Vienna and Zurich in the pursuit of to be a good psychologist maybe to be the greatest one that ever lived (Fitzgerald 147). The Daffodils Comparison Two poems that share or have a similar meaning are quot; The Daffodils quot; written by William Wordsworth and quot;Miracle on St David #39;s Day quot; written by Gillian Clarke. Both writers wrote their poems in different times but share a very similar meaning. The poem quot; The Daffodils quot; inspired quot;Miracle on St David #39;s Day quot; that William Wordsworth wrote creates a unique situation, which occurs in Clarke #39;s poem. William Wordsworth had never seen the daffodils in which he wrote about in his poem. Although with a unique imagination and a few details that he has, William Wordsworth could use the details and create it into a special and unique poem which sets for a beautiful scenery. Which allows the reader to participate and feel the true beauty of the scene. In the poem, a conflict presents itself in the beginning of the poem, when he uses such specific words that are very contradictory with other parts of the poem such as when he describes not being so alone, but with other people in the other parts of the poem. The beginning of the first poem focuses on the writer #39;s use of a strong imagination to create a multitude and vivid set of pictures that you can imagine yourself. The happiness he gains from creating these images in his mind, fulfill him up with even more happiness and joy. Likewise, Clarke #39;s experience is very similar in that it s also heartwarming and joyful, it involves many people just like William s poem. In the poem, the daffodils by William s technique is to reconstruct an imaginary trip in which he flies above the countryside. Showing the good side of Garcia 2 things and the good side of his mood. He describes the location of the daffodils and identifies them by quoting something he distinctly remembers. Their beauty not only affects him and his emotions but also the rest of the environment around him. He also comments on the huge ability that these daffodils have raised the human spirits, and in parts of the poem he makes it very obvious that he has been completely unaware of the huge impact the daffodils would have had on him and how William, in the future would continuously visit this imaginary scene he has created for himself and learn from it. The quote, by nature philosopher Vladimir Nabokov, states, There is a high ridge where the mountainside of scientific knowledge joins the opposite slope of artistic imagination; where precision of poetry and the art of science can meet. She said it reminded her of all the years she watched me with my students, exploring and healing wild places. This was, and is, one of the most profound compliments I have ever received. There is a multitude of ways to approach teaching students about our Earth, some technical, some artistic, some spiritual, but to effect lasting change, one has to touch on all three. Throughout my 23 years as an environmental educator, I have often said my true goal is to guide students toward a love and desire to protect our planet and each other the science they learn is a happy side effect. But side effects can have lasting effects, and make no mistake the science is critical. Hooking students emotionally, though, opens their minds to the science, to a desire to know the world around them, to a willingness to absorb the science because it explains what they love. As educators, volunteers, and docents, our challenge is to create that high ridge for students, to teach natural history in an imaginative, artistic way one that presents science as a form of poetry from the heart. Imperialism is more often than not fueled by two major schools of thought known as nationalism and Social Darwinism. Nationalism is a feeling of pride and devotion to one s country. This can drive a person to think that their country is the most powerful, and in essence drives that person mad with power and a hunger to conquer, which not ironically is exactly what many countries did. Social Darwinism is the very idea that a more powerful country conquer the smaller countries. Survival of the fittest, as the well renowned Charles Darwin used to say. Britain would therefore have cheap raw materials sent back to them; because India was mercantilist (could only trade with the mother country) they did not have much of a choice but to sell to Britain cheaply. Britain therefore always had a steady source of raw materials Britain would turn raw materials into finished products that it would ship back to India and sell to Indians. Prices for goods were low and Indians liked that, but also Britain had a steady source of income. The most useful Indian industry for Britain was its cotton industry; Britain often used Indian cotton for clothing. India made for a cheap way to assemble (cheap labor) and an easy way to get business. For Britain, there was barely a negative side to imperializing in India. John Bowlby s Theories of Attachment Theory John Bowlby had worked with residential school children as a volunteer early on in his career and had determined that the children who suffered the most from anger outbursts, aggressivity, and whom her termed affectionless were also the children who had suffered the most maternal deprivation (). Bowlby advanced that the loss of the mother figure was extremely distressing and damaging and could influence adults behavior years later. Hence, where psychoanalysis had been concerned solely with the imaginings of the childish mind, the fantasied pleasures and the dreaded retributions (Fonagy), Bowlby showed that humans do not develop in a void or as individual monads but as members of interacting systems. Bowlby developed his theory on attachment for several decades, and at a time where any dealings with childhood trauma were still rigorously influenced by Freudian psychoanalysis through the likes of psychoanalysts such Anna Freud or Melanie Klein. Even Winnicott was revulsed upon reading Bowlby s papers (siegel). It certainly was a bitter pill to swallow for psychoanalysts who had been repeating since Freud that the newborn was a little tyrant fighting for oral gratification at the mother s breast and merely clinging on to fulfil sexual instinctual needs. • 47. Fluoroquinolone Resistance To Antibiotic Resistance As previously discussed, antibiotics often work by targeting critical functions of the bacterial cell. This means that antibiotics have specific targets, which is a boon because it means non microbial life will not be affected by the antibiotics. However, because of this specificity, bacteria can develop ways of protecting themselves from antibiotics, leading to the rise of antibiotic resistance Like any other organism, bacterium are subject to evolutionary pressure. Antibiotic resistance in bacteria is rarely the result of a single mutation leading to full resistance, but rather the result of a series of mutations that incrementally increased antibiotic resistance. For example, in the case of fluoroquinolone resistance, resistance started with a mutation in the efflux pump, granting Streptococcus pneumoniae the ability to survive certain treatment regimens (13). This became an issue when people started to misuse their antibiotics. In this particular example, because patients did not follow their prescription regimens, they only killed the bacteria not resistant to fluoroquinolone. This selective pressure drove bacteria to further develop fluoroquinolone resistance, meaning that the initial infection remained untreated, and would now require a ... How to Be Successful at Composting Essay example How to Be Successful at Composting As an avid gardener and as someone who is conscientious of my environment, I purchased a compost bin several years ago. I have an abundance of yard and lawn clippings that I am not willing to dump into our already stressed landfills. In turn, my efforts for composting benefit me greatly because I can use this finished material to improve my soil texture, the soil s ability to hold water, and as a fertilizer. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This can be done a number of ways. Most county agriculture departments will supply you with a soil test kit or with a phone number to obtain a kit. There is also pH paper on the market along with a more elaborate method known as compost extraction (Trautman). When taking a measurement of the pH, it is important that several readings are taken because your compost is unlikely to be homogenous. It may contain anything from sawdust and grass, to lettuce and coffee grounds. If your pH reading is between 6 and 7.5, most plants will do well in this type of soil. If the pH is 6 or below, the soil is probably too acidic and you will need to add lime to the compost, such as ground chalk or a limey clay (Sines,27). This solution can be said to contain more H+ ions than OH #8209; ions. Many plants such as azaleas, hydrangeas and blueberries love this type of soil. If the soil has a pH above 6, it is too alkaline and contains more OH #8209; ions than H+ ions. You will need to add brown material such as pine needles or sawdust to counter act this condition (Golueke,83). Carbon and Nitrogen (C/N) ratio is also an important element in composting. The ratio is used to give an indication of the speed at which organic residues in the soil are likely to be decomposing.
