The reason why this is the way to go is that relational databases are limited in the number of
relationships that can be dug down and analyzed. Using a dimensional model will allow the use of
multi dimensional cubes to be able to pull 3 or more dimensions back into a pivot table. An example
would be Sales by customer service rep by assigned sales territory. This provides a deeper detail of
data than you would be able to get out of a relational database. For each department of the university, I
propose a Data mart for each one. The reason why this is the case is so that every department can
manipulate their own data as they see fit with their own resources because it is on a different server
than another data mart typically. The look and feel of the Data Mart is up to that department and does
not bother the other departments Data Marts. Individual data marts can also increase response time
because there are not as many people hitting them all at one time. If a new department were to pop up,
data mart creation is very easy to do. Each record will be unique based on the primary or composite
keys of the table, and those keys could be surrogate keys such as using AutoNumber like in Microsoft
Access. Depending on the analysis of the data, it may be determined that the ID numbers between
student and teacher are unique and this can be the way to link items together throughout the database.

Morality In The Great Gatsby
Frustrated by years of oppression and starvation, French peasants began a revolution to overthrow the
monarchy and system of aristocracy. However, the peasant s dream for a chance to make something of
themselves, quickly spiraled out of control and became the means for many to brutally avenge years of
mistreatment. In the end, although the French Revolution brought a new system of government to
power, the lifestyles of the peasants hardly improved. Similarly, in the novel The Great Gatsby by F.
Scott Fitzgerald, the protagonist, Jay Gatsby, dreams to make a better life for himself, but spends his
life on a fruitless quest. Gatsby s moral ambiguity reveals his confusion in the pursuit of dreams
rendered unattainable by the rich. Jay Gatsby often conducts himself admirably, yet earns a fortune
selling alcohol illegally, making it difficult to discern his true character. While everyone else at his
parties would be mingling with women, no one swooned backward on Gatsby (50). Singularly
focusing on his dreams, Gatsby refrains from the trifles of his parties and comports himself honorably.
Set above his parties both literally, as he watches over the scene, and in terms of the magnitude of his
aspirations, Gatsby refuses the temptations of his setting. In addition, Gatsby hardly drank due to his
experience with Cody (100). Thoughtfully noting the unfortunate fate of Dan Cody, Gatsby shuns
alcohol in his effort to achieve his dreams. Willing to sacrifice enjoyment in

Hieroglyphics and History of Mathematics
Hieroglyphics deal a lot with the history of math, because it was one of the earliest of maths. The
ancient Egyptians were the first civilization to practice the scientific arts. It is said that the Egyptians
introduced the earliest fully developed base 10 numeration systems at least as early as 2700 B.C. The
word chemistry is derived from the word Alchemy which is the ancient name for Egypt. It was
between the third and first millennia B.C. It later then died in 400 AD. This was first used as legal
matters such as commerce, education, literature, and science. This type of math was mostly used by
Egyptians, but there numbering was different than ours today. Instead of them using numbers they
would use pictures to illustrate the numbers.
It is said that hieroglyphics were created by the Egyptian god Thoth. He is said to be the god of the
moon, magic, and writing. Hieroglyph comes from the root word hieros which is Greek meaning
sacred, and the root word glypho which means inscription. Hieroglyphs were first used by Clement of
Alexandria.
It was first used in ancient Egypt, as a decimal numbering system. But the decimal was non positional;
it could deal with numbers of great scale. Egyptian used this method mostly in medicine and
geometry. The earliest known examples of hieroglyphs in Egypt have been dated to 3,400 BC. The
latest date in hieroglyphs was made on the gate post of a temple at Philae in 396 AD. The Egyptians
were really involved in medicine and applied

In September 1969, Ho Chi Minh Died Of A Heart Attack In
In September 1969, Ho Chi Minh died of a heart attack in the city of Hanoi. Despite Nixon s attempts
at de escalation, he was also secretly increasing bombing campaigns in Laos and Cambodia in order to
stop the supplies coming from the Ho Chi Minh trail. The operation was kept secret from congress and
the American people because Cambodia was technically a neutral country. The operation authorized B
52s to bomb Vietnamese bases and supply areas outside of Vietnam. A total of 111,000 tons of bombs
were dropped from 1969 to 1970 inside Cambodia. Consequently, protest erupted over Nixon s
decision to further expand the war into neutral territory. The most famous protest over the bombings in
Cambodia took place an American college campus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Easter Offensive was happening, Henery Kissinger was negotiating with the North Vietnamese.
However, the North Vietnamese negotiator walked away from the negotiation table and the Nixon
administration gave the North Vietnamese an ultimatum; return to the negotiation table or else. The
North Vietnamese did not return and Nixon retaliated with the Linebacker offensive. The new
offensive included sending 700 B 52 bombers and 1,000 jet fighters to bomb the City of Hanoi for 11
days. Nixon also ordered bombing on the NVA in the cities they had taken during the Easter
Offensive. The Linebacker offensive was successful and 8 days after the operation had ended, the
North Vietnamese began negotiations again After 3 years of negotiations, leaders from all 3 sides
including the United States, the North Vietnamese government, and the Vietcong all came together to
sign a final resolution. The resolution named the Paris Peace Accords was signed by all 3 parties on
January 27, 1973. Stipulations of the Peace accords required an immediate cease fire, releasing of all
prisoners of war, US bases to be dismantled and it allowed 60 days for US troops to withdraw. It also
allowed the South Vietnamese to decide on their future as a country and kept the current division
between the south and the north at the 17th parallel. Interestingly, all North Vietnamese troops located
in South Vietnam were allowed to remain in their position as long as

The Differences Between Legalism And Confucianism
Q: Han Fei Zi was known for synthesizing and refining the legalist theories and practices that had
been developed before him. Explain his views on law, statecraft and power. Comment on the
fundamental differences between Legalism and Confucianism.
Han Fei Tzu:
Legalism, is an ancient Chinese philosophy concerned with the art of rulership and the stability of the
state. Along with hundreds of other philosophical schools, legalism emerged during the Warring States
Period (453 422 BC), a time of intense political and intellectual turmoil. Unlike other schools of
thought, legalism defined the strength of the state, through a system of punishments and rewards,
propagated by common laws. Neither concerning itself with Confucian idealization of the past, or the
morality of man, legalisms pragmatic system of governance, as best defined by Han Fei Zi, ended the
hundreds of years of warfare and unified China. As aforementioned, Legalism was at the forefront of
philosophical discourse during the Warring States Period. The Warring States Period was a time of
both immense growth and conflict, as the remaining seven states fought over the dominance of China.
Although through much of the Warring States Period, the Zhou Dynasty claimed dominance over
China, by the end of the two hundred and twenty five year long period, the Kingdom of Qin emerged
victorious. While much of the Warring States Period consisted of warfare, the era also saw the spread
of philosophical ideas throughout

Antigone And Creon Essay
The play Antigone has many complex and some not so complex characters and that is what makes it
very easy to create juxtapositions within and throughout the play. Creon was a very basic character in
the beginning of the play and proved to be a simple character that believed in one thing that created
conflicts. Others added on and together that is where dialogue in the play fills in empty spaces in the
play. Conflicts are what makes this play more interesting to the reader. The biggest contrasting
character is Creon because of the conflict that he has with Antigone. The line in the second part of the
play is the part that sets all the other parts up with depth or good future dialogues Creon says He ll be
left unburied, his body there for the birds and dogs to eat, a clear reminder of his shameful fate. (line
234 236). Antigone looks at creon as one who does what he thinks is right without thinking thoroughly

Haemon, his son even ends up coming into the story because of his arguments with Ismene. The son is
one of the less spoken about characters since he does not play a big role but is rather thrown into the
story without much context. The first two lines in the fourth part of the play Ismene says You re going
to kill your own sons bride? And as Creon replies in return Why not? There are other fields for him to
plough. (Line 650 651). Ismene is brought up a lot through the play and we do get a lot of FaceTime
with her but she does not contrast with anyone until Antigone is on trial almost and that is when it
does not add anything to the argument. Emotion can be a deciding factor in a lot of choices and in
Creon s case his emotions are all jumbled up when he finds out he ruined his own

A Report On Google s Driverless Car
Google s driverless car; are they the future, technologies most recent trumpet, world s next thing or the
latest catastrophe, next failure, biggest let down yet? Google has produce multiple products over the
years that were successful and some that lack success. The latest product their trying to liftoff is the
Google Car. A driverless car that can rely on their sensors and software to drive themselves. The idea
of a car that drives without a driver is by far interesting, but is it good to have a person life in the
hands of a machine. Some people thinks this plan is a dead end: Ian Pearson, a futurologist, says What
Google is proposing is obsolete, Pearson, who is also a fellow at the World Academy for Arts and
Science, said. It doesn t exist yet, but there isn t any point in going through that phase. There are two
Italian researchers are looking to release self driving pods. The pods, called Next, they re driverless
boxes that will take you anywhere. But even the Next pods fall short of what Pearson foresees. For
one, Next is a public transportation system that is controlled by a third party. The pods will pick you
up after you request one through an app. (Muoio) So, there other things that are similar to driverless
car that are surfacing around the world. Not just driverless cars; but the concept that a computer
having to make so many complex choices is unsettling to some people. There are obstacles that these
mindful machines have to overcome to gain majority of

The Importance Of Water Infrastructure Financing
Water Infrastructure Financing
Water and sewer utilities are faced with the task of ensuring water quality, addressing aging
infrastructure and meeting with innovations in the industry. There is an urgent need for capital
investment and infrastructure financing to address these issues. This requires hundreds of billions of
dollars and the active participation of both the policy makers and other stakeholders.
Water infrastructure financing comes from several sources, including federal, state, and local sources,
and also from private sectors. Various forms of financing exist including state revolving funds (SRFs),
non SRF state funds, private activity bonds (PABs) and Municipal Bonds (Vedachalam Geddes 2017).

The method of trenchless pipe repair is cutting down on disruptive digging (Bonura 2002).
The use of pipe bursting to replace aging pipes was employed by the city of Austin, Texas, thereby
reducing cost and limiting environmental impacts. Some other cities are moving towards newer
technologies like city of Saginaw, Michigan which replaced all service water pipes with C909 PVC
pipes (Brzozowski 2016).
The corrosive resistant nature of these newer material gives it advantage over corrosive pipes that are
over the country as was highlighted in Flint, Michigan. Utilities are breaking away from the old
methods and using newer materials (Brzozowski 2016).
Water and sewer utilities all over the nation are adopting and upgrading to new technologies like the
smart water meters. These technologies provide real time information on consumption data, monitor
and detects leaks leading to quick and accurate pinpointing of leaks, and they are essential tools in
management of water resources. Studies utilizing smart water meters have shown that information
from the data can be used as management tool, determine water usage patterns, and detection of
leakages (Gurung et al 2014).
Deteriorating Water Quality
Ground and surface water are the main sources for water providers. Many of these nation s waters are
contaminated by pollutants. There are several federal and state regulations to address the issues of
pollution of the waterways by industrial and other sources.

Sport Psychology in the Film Coach Carter
Sports psychology deals with the mental and emotional aspects of physical performance. It involves
describing, explaining and predicting attitudes, feelings and behaviours in an attempt to improve
performance. In the film Coach Carter, directed by Thomas Carter, sport psychology is used
effectively to enhance the performance of a high school basketball team. However, this improved
performance is not limited to the basketball court, it extends into the classroom where the students use
goal setting, motivation, concentration and confidence control, ultimately to become accepted into
college, avoiding a life of drugs, gangs and prison. In the film, many sport psychology techniques are
used to turn the immature teenagers of the Richmond ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the athletes turn up to training late, they run. As well as negative motivation, negative
reinforcement is present in the scene where Coach Carter is giving statistical feedback to his athletes.
Mr Worm, you were five and four... five turnovers and four missed free throws. As a result of these
errors, Coach Carter decides to add an extra practise session every morning at 6am to teach his players
the fundamentals of the game. One type of motivation left out of Coach Carters repertoire is intrinsic
motivation. Intrinsic motivation is the desire to learn and perform well that comes from within an
individual. This is a shame because intrinsic motivation has been proven to be the most successful
type of motivation when it comes to keeping a commitment. Although intrinsic motivation does come
from within an individual, eg; the desire to win a trophy for a grandfather, it can still be inspired by a
coach. Behaviour becomes either more or less likely depending on its consequences. The theory is that
if you reward behaviours they are more likely to occur again, while punishment is more likely to
reduce the chances of that behaviour occurring in the future. Coach Carter successfully uses negative
motivation, however, positive motivation is rarely used and sport psychology research
overwhelmingly supports the use of a predominantly (80 90%) positive approach. (Peak Performance
issue 214) That said, the negative approach works very well in this situation

Policy And Implications Of The President s Inaugural...
Assignment #1: Policy and Implications Paper
Mary Marrone
USC School of Social Work
January 29, 2016
Section One: Choose and Research a Policy
Introduction
At the president s inaugural, the 2010 National Drug Control Strategy presented an evidence based
practice that addressed reducing drug use and eliminating its consequences in the United States
(National Drug Control Strategy, 2013). The president responded by having his administration draft
the third way in drug policy, which rejects taking extreme measures on drug addicts and in
criminalizing them, also minimizing the United States participation in the war on drugs (National
Drug Control Strategy, 2013). This policy hopes to take a nuance approach on drug policy as it aims to
balance public health programs, effective law enforcement, and international partnerships. After all we
are in the twenty first century, where forward thinking is highly commendable and very much needed.
The third way is rooted in the belief that drug addiction is a disease and causes grave damage to the
brain (National Drug Control Strategy, 2013). Therefore it is true that one can seek treatment in hopes
of recovery for his/her disease or one has the ability to completely prevent them from acquiring the
disease of addiction. This policy is believed to represent the future of drug policy not only nationally,
but globally as well (National Drug Control Strategy, 2013). History/Evolution of the Policy The

Reflection For The Nutritional Value Of A Healthy Life
Food is such an important component of a healthy life. Variety and balance in one s diet is a key
component for a healthy lifestyle and nutrition. With the completion of my 3 day food analysis, I
noticed a low caloric intake approximately 500 calories lower than my basal metabolic rate. The basal
metabolic rate is the amount of energy need for your body to function, based on your age, activity
level, and the nutritional value of the foods you consume. In increase my overall caloric intake, I

In order to maintain bone health, vitamin D helps regulate the use of calcium and phosphorus levels.
In the remodeling of bone osteoclats, break down old bone and osteoblasts then come in and lay down
a new bone matrix, which increases the bone s density. Calcium and phosphorus attach to newly
formed bone matrix made of osteocalcin, which is produced with the aid of vitamin D and vitamin K.
The formation of hydroxyappitie, only possible with vitamin D, gives strength and structured to bones.
With little intake of vitamin D, the absorption of calcium and phosphorus level significantly lowers in
the small intestine. As a result, bone s lack necessary amounts of calcium, causing them to become
brittle. Poor, brittle bones then leads to osteoporosis, which begins around the age of 40 due to the
breakdown of bone by osteoclasts exceeding the building process of bone by osteoblasts. The highest
bone build up possible is during the first 30 years of one s life, therefore being only 20, I need to
maintain proper vitamin D levels in order to have the highest absorption of calcium and phosphorus
from my daily food consumption (Blake pg. 240 242, 300 305). Also as a female, I have a higher
chance of developing osteoporosis due to the loss of estrogen after I finish menopause. According to
my week nutritional analysis, I had the ideal amount of calcium and phosphorus in my diet. As a
result, I am less worried about developing

Bartleby, the Scrivener Story Analysis
Have you ever seen a person so disconnected from society and from what is considered to be normal
that he or she made you question their sanity? If so, you could relate with the lawyer in the story
Bartleby, the Scrivener. In this story, the narrator, who is a lawyer, has a simple man named Bartleby
respond to a job opening as a scrivener. Unbeknownst to the lawyer, Bartleby did not act in the
manner the lawyer would have expected. Bartleby is so outside of what is expected that it is almost as
if he had died and no longer had to live up to society s standards. In this story, Bartleby is portrayed as
a lifeless zombie and is alone with nowhere to go, no one to see, nowhere to be, and no purpose to live
for.
The first case on which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To copy someone else s work nonstop all day every day would get really tiring, but the lawyer says
Bartleby gorges himself on copying papers and documents. Usually when someone gorges him or
herself in something, it is something that they like or enjoy. In Bartleby s case this is what he does, not
because he enjoys it but because it s all he has. This is evident when the lawyer says, He ran a day and
night line, copying by sun light and by candle light. (108) This job is all he had in his life.
Another case in which Bartleby shares similarities to that of a zombie is when he repeats throughout
the story, I prefer not to. No one would ever say these words to his or her boss. That would be crazy,
but Bartleby said these words multiple times to the lawyer, his boss. This is similar to the
characteristics of a zombie, because zombies do not ever listen to anyone. They do what they want to
do and nothing more.
Bartleby took the job as a scrivener to try and find a purpose for his life, but soon after his boss
abandons him, he ends up in jail. At this moment in his life he sees that he truly has nothing. His quest
for purpose as a scrivener has failed. He is at the end of his life, not because he is old or sick
physically, but because he has nothing to live for. While in jail he refuses to eat and soon he dies. His
reason for living died a long time ago, though. His pursuit to be a scrivener was

Symbols In The Poisonwood Bible
There are various depictions of opposite ideas in Barbra Kingsolver s The Poisonwood Bible .
Symbols of good and evil, lights and darks, sick and healthy, and social and natural balances are
reoccurring images throughout Kingsolver s work. Among these images is the one shown of Nathan

South Carolina. Without even asking for his family s opinion, Nathan decides that he wants to go to

the eyes God. Nathan felt that he was doing God a favor by taking his family to the Congo and trying
to convert as many people as possible. Furthermore; Nathan Price walks into the Congo with a
Western attitude completely failing to adapt to the Congolese culture and ideas (even failing to realize
that the people were afraid of the river because of crocodiles) making them less accepting of him and
his teachings. Brother Fowles acts as Nathan s foil and depicts the other side of the Christian religion,
and how a missionary can be successful. Brother Fowles is married to a Congolese woman and
explains how the men and women of the Congo are actually very religious and not just the tickets to
heaven that Nathan sees them as. Brother Fowles has pantheistic ideas which automatically make the
Congolese more accepting of the religion that he is preaching to

One that has no mind is being kept from their personal freedoms and desires. If one was to pick if
either mind control is worse or physical control I would choose mind control because your mind is
who you are, your personality. When one controls their mind they are not allowing their imagination or
emotions get the best of them and that is controlling one s thinking.
When one does not have control of their mind they are not able to think for themselves therefore
resulting in not being able to have opinions or even a personality and is kept from their freedoms and
rights to do what they desire. Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear

Knee Replacement Research Paper
The development of 3D printing has greatly impacted the medical field, more specifically knee
replacements. With the new development of 3D printing, patients have experienced a shorter recovery
time, less pain, and more mobility.
Off the shelf implant can take up to 12 weeks to fully recover. With the use of customized implants,
some patients report that they are able to walk without assistance or pain in as little as two to six

The Ethics Of A Practising Solicitor Essay
The main argument introduced in the debate considers whether a practicing solicitor can adhere to the
traditional values of moral and ethical integrity that have been reinforced through a set of principles
such as the Solicitors Regulation Authority Code of Conduct (SRA). The latter consists of ten
mandatory principles that are the professional requirements expected of any solicitor. Traditionally,
ethical and moral truthfulness have formed the basis of a competent lawyer and thus when adhering to
the traditional principles placed upon lawyers, a lawyer was thought to abide to moral standards. I will
aim to tackle the debate by arguing that the SRA provides a framework that allows lawyers to be good
people. Secondly, I will also be discussing a lawyer s moral responsibility. and that whilst The lawyer
is conventionally seen as a professional devoted to his client s interest and...required, to do some
things for that client which he would not do for himself his moral responsibility must not violate the
SRA Code of conduct. Finally, it is imperative to explore the ethical dilemmas solicitors face when
attempting to make their clients interests their own. 2. A lawyer s professional duty to their client The
SRA Code of Conduct concentrates on the protection and benefit of clients and the public and
ultimately forms the foundation of a good lawyer. Although pervasive, principles two, four and six
support my argument on how a lawyer can, indeed be a good person. Firstly,

between a Puritan, disapproving attitude towards it, and a more nuanced attitude that viewed sex as a

The Causes Of Civil War
Solomon Otubo Asst. Proff. Gülay Uğuru Göksel
What are the causes of Civil War? Do ethnic determinants play an important role? Why are certain
parts of Africa characterized by ethnic conflict while other parts remain relatively calm?
The conventional understanding on the causes of civil war especially within African countries, to a
considerable degree, has being predominantly characterized to draw its root on ethnic divergences.
However, such premise appear extremely difficult to be true, owing to the fact that civil war is a
complex action and requires the interplay of different variables to make it visible. Nonetheless, the
role of ethnic differences in determining civil war cannot be overemphasized. But generalizing ethnic
differences as a prime factor that result to civil war sounds unreasonable irrespective of what the
actors pretend or claim to have motivated them. For instance, all most every country in Africa is multi
ethnic oriented state, and in such a cross cultural environment, it is usual for the minority to lay claim
of being short changed either one way or the other. However not all the African countries have
witnessed civil war. Within such context one can draw a logical conclusion that there are other
variables which directly or indirectly play an interwoven role with ethnicism, or hide under the
umbrella of ethnic diversities to cause civil war.
In this paper I will develop a constructive model which shows the correlation of different variables as

INTRODUCTION Over 88% of the American people want to know if they are consuming food or

In 2014, around the globe, nearly 500 million acres of biotech crops were grown in 28 countries. That
s at least 15 million acres more than were grown in 2013. (Penn State College of Agricultural
Sciences, the science of GMOs)It is important to research my topic because by not knowing or being
informed, we are in danger of losing a sound body or mind. Not labeling genetically modified
organisms can also cause multiple health issues, by not labeling them people are at risk because
genetically modified organisms can cause allergies and later lead to sever defects and even death. This
paper is not to debate the safety of genetically modified organisms, rather to raise awareness about the
social injustice of not labeling genetically modified organisms. Though there is substantial evidence
that rules in favor of the safety of Genetically Modified Organisms, there is also a considerable
amount of evidence that can prove that Genetically Modified Organisms are not safe. Only 37 percent
of the American public believes that GM foods are safe to eat, while 88 percent of scientists believe
they are safe , according to a survey conducted in 2014 by the Pew Research Center. However the two
are completely different social injustices. If Genetically Modified Organisms are truly safe, why are
they not labeled? Monsanto spends millions of dollars to change the genetic material of natural seeds,
into genetically modified seeds and sells them to farmers to make their crops.

The Reasons For The Revolution Of The American Revolution
From 1775 to 1783, the colonists battled against their mother country, England, for their
independence. The colonist strived for their independence due to the unequal representation in the
British government, the unfair taxes set in the colonies meant to help the British recover from their
war debts after the French and Indian War, and the many other factors that drove the colonists away
from England. Besides leaving England for those reasons, the colonists wanted their independence, so
they can create their own government with their own legislation and desires. They fought for their
freedom in order to stimulate a positive change within the country and begin a new chapter for the
colonists, which makes the revolution revolutionary. The American Revolution s attempt to establish
equal representation of the social classes in government, extend the rights for African Americans, and
restore the relationship between the colonists and the Native Americans made the Revolution
revolutionary to a certain extent. The American Revolution was revolutionary to a certain extent due
to the attempt on establishing an equal representation of the social classes within the new American
government system. In the 1794 statement of Reverend Devereux Jarratt, he states how after the
revolution, the newly installed government was better than the previous British government system
because the colonies were equally represented (Jameson, Doc C). The only issue was that since

Life In The Soviet Union During The 60 s
The life in the U.S compared to that of the Soviet Union during the 60 s is an amazing phenomenon of
a declining life expectancy in a highly developed country just like in the case of the Soviet Union
during the 60 s down to the 70 s. The result of the life expectancy rate in the Soviet Union shows that
there is only a small part to true informal changes in the state of living. However, the weak point of
the measures of life expectancy is of vital importance, although another factor is the unfavourable
selection of risks by war, thereby making a less valuable comparison between the international and
inter temporal. Another factor is the logical difference between period and the measurement of the
group of people sharing a common factor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dinkel R.H. further stated that in the 1964 the trend later reversed in that the life expectancy in the
Soviet Union for women remained moderately steady, and that of the men counterpart went down
dramatically. Furthermore, Dinkel noted that most of the western sources blamed this change on the
growing abuse of alcohol and poor health care thus the implicit embracement by the Soviet Union
authorities. Ideology of socialism and communism Socialism and communism are ideological
principles that have many distinguishing features in addition to many shared characteristics; however,
it is complicated to distinguish the accurate differences between them, as various societies have tried
embarking on the dissimilar nature of both systems in innumerable forms, thereby, making many
zealous supporter of ideology with different agendas defining both systems in a biased term.
Accordingly, one idea or fact that is often raised to differentiate socialism from communism is that
socialism in general is the political movement that refers to an economic system in that they believe
that the state should be in charge of all important producing industries thus taking hold of the control
of free market in order to promote economic parity and egalitarianism. Theoretically, socialism seeks
to distribute wealth equally among its citizens in a way that the rich don t take

The Dangers Of Al Capone During The Prohibition Era
Introduction
During the Prohibition Era, Al Capone was an extremely powerful gangster that ran Chicago s
underground. At his pinnacle, he led uncountable brothels and speakeasies in which he and his
syndicate could manage their various criminal acts, of which included illicit gambling, prostitution,
and the sale of alcohol, which of course was illegal at this time and thus how he made the majority of
his money. While exact numbers are not available, it is estimated that while at the peak of his power,
Capone had brought in well over $1 billion in today s currency and employed over 600 gangsters in
order to do his business and protect him (Simkin, Al Capone ). When asked whether or not he was a
criminal, Capone even cheekily responded, I make my money by supplying a public demand. If I
break the law, my customers who number hundreds of the best people in Chicago, are as guilty as I
am. The only difference is that I sell and they buy. Everybody calls me a racketeer. I call myself a
businessman (qtd. Simkin).
For years the police were led on a winding path in order to try and obtain evidence to convict Capone,
but they found it nearly impossible. By employing various tactics to cover up his tracks, and making
sure that he never did the dirty work himself, he was able to stay out of prison for years. Finally
convicted in 1931 for tax evasion, he was released prior to the termination of his eleven year sentence
in 1939 (Simkin). When he was released, Prohibition had been

Just like a pyramid, all things need a structure to help the object fulfill its objective. The novel, The
Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan displays the adventurous life of two young children, Sadie and Carter
Kane, attempting to save their father, Julius Kane, and the world from the god of chaos, Set. Traveling
to different cities in order to gain many allies and valuable information on how to stop Set, Carter and
Sadie also gain fierce enemies in their intriguing journey. Telling the story in a first person point of
view, Sadie and Carter help the reader visualize both sides of the story and how one s perspective can

them, but... he spread his hands helplessly. (Riordan 355)
The order of the book is given a foreshadow of what is bound to happen in advance giving Sadie a
chance to change the future for the better. In conclusion, the orders and rules of the book enhances the
theme of learning your own mistakes. Characters is a main contribution to the plot. The characters

About Myer Holdings Limited
Myer Holdings Limited Introduction As stated by Weller (2007) Australia s textile industry has seen a
steady growth from 1970s to date, which makes it one of the major contributors to the economic
development of the nation and a greater source of employment opportunity. The industry is unique
from other markets around the world specifically from European and U.S. markets. This unique
arrangement of the Australian space economy frequently contributes to several barriers for many
clothing firms which has intention to establish in Australia. However, Australia s population within
most urban centers is very less density which creates a lot of obstacles for any firm investing in
Australia to make a nationwide market. Additionally, most of the clothing industries operating in
Australia, one or two companies are specialized in the production of a lot of products which are
normally sold at the national level, again a good number of smaller clothing companies work in local,
in cities or within the state territories. The diversity of the market looks more fruitful for companies to
serve in a specialized niche market and to build a number of semi monopolistic market spaces.
Clothing market and some of the similar industries in Australia are always determined by the climatic
condition and people s lifestyle. This decides how the people spend on clothing and the kind of clothes
which normally being bought, for example clothes such as sports wear and casual wear. It s however,

The Effects Of Tactile Communication On The Human Resource...
One type of nonverbal communication is haptics. Haptics refers to the study of communication by
touch (Anonymous, 2012). According to Anonymous, 2012, touch is necessary for human social
development, and it can be welcoming, threatening, or persuasive. The meaning of a simple touch
differs between individuals, genders, and cultures. It is important for the Human Resource Manager
(HRM) to recognize these differences in order to improve communication and be effective in the
workplace. Tactile communication can help or hinder business and employee interactions. A firm
handshake might be interpreted as confidence or credibility while other physical touches such as
lingering touch on the shoulder, might be seen as being intimate (Anonymous, 2012). However, a pat
on the shoulder or arm might help initiate interactions and show inclusion and respect. Proper
knowledge of tactile differences among employees have important implications on how interactions
unfold and relationships established.
The implications of tactile communication or touch is important to know not only as a HRM but as an
employee working in a diverse workplace.
Since we communicate a great deal through touch, there are benefits by being knowledgeable about
this type of nonverbal communication and the differences among various ethnic groups. Benefits for
the HRM as well as managers include respect, trust, an effective communicator, and better employee
relationships. Additionally, understanding haptics enables

A parent s words or actions leave behind an astounding effect on a a childs. Whether positive or

story tells how the narrator copes and continues her life after her father dies. Even after his harsh
treatment and rude demeanor while he was alive, his stills is an entity that she herself lives her life by.
Plath conveys the narrator s of confinement with the use of metaphors, repetition, and allusion
throughout the poem.
The usage of metaphors throughout the poem shows the reader how much Plath feels trapped by her

In the ninth stanza, the speaker references how she is scared of her father and uses examples that
subtly discriminates him as a Nazi. Throughout that stanza, she makes references to the German
military by connecting her father to the Luftwaffe (German Air Force), Panzer Man ( German Tank
Men), and Even Hitler himself by referencing to his neat mustache . These instances from this stanza
all connect the narrator s father to his German roots and effectively portray him as a Nazi. It shows the
audience how the narrator views her father, and ultimately makes the distinction between her fathers
personalities and that of a nazi s. Another example from daddy also makes references to the narrator
considering herself to be a Jew. In stanza seven, the narrator explicitly calls herself a Jew after making
reference to the fact that every German she encountered she thought was her father. During World War
II, the Germans overpowered the Jews, almost the same way that the narrator feels overpowered by
her father s very essence. When the speaker makes the comparison of Nazis and Jews, she

One of the best examples of this type of Disruptive Innovation was Toyota. Toyota came into the
American market and offered inexpensive cars that offered very view features and small 4 cylinder

customers started to purchase Toyotas and the company was able to establish a solid footing in the

For instance, half of all children can sit unsupported by the age of 6 months, while the majority, (90%)
can take up to 7 ½ months. What this means is that for accurate data we would need to observe theses
children multiple times to see the growth they are making.
How do we know infants can see at birth? They can t tell us. For this we depend on clues such as eye
movement, light sensitivity and the appearance of the eye. Though an infant s vision is present at birth
the strength of their vision is far from mature. However, vision develops rapidly in infants, going from
only being able to focus on images 4 to 30 inches away to a rapid ability to see details and shape
(Berger, 2014). By 3 months these same infants with immature ability can see patterns color and
motion. Surveys and medical research are regularly used to develop a better understanding of infant
development.
Children develop gross motor skills at different age norms which are affected by their culture and can
vary (Berger, 2014). In order to gain information, we need to educate and understand this
development, we have to conduct research. We are looking for new information and theories.
Although surveys are a great way to collect a large amount of data the information gained is only as
sound as the subject. This is why we need other avenues for research, and we need parental support to
make that happen.

daughter s (Amor) transformation into an aswang (monster) due to an unidentified illness. Amor, a
loving and courteous daughter, morphs into a monster that lives on the blood of others every midnight.
Such transformation leads to several conflicts within the family and the community. This paper will
discuss the conflicts in the family in relation to Amor s transformation and how it affected their
relationship with one another.

their daughter to prevent her from killing people from the community. These two conflicting
perspectives threaten their relationships with one another. Junior invokes his patriarchal power in the
family and decides to unchain Amor despite objections from the rest of the family. Inday and the rest

Eventually, they return as they realize that they should stick together as one family to face the tragedy

of who were the most influential and important. Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt, and Ronald
Reagan being the top three. These three have impacted America tremendously from WW2 and helping
the Cold war to ending The Great Depression. They were good leaders in a time of need which makes
them well known and unforgettable.
Theodore Roosevelt being the youngest president at age 42 was a great leader. He had many
accomplishments, even winning the Noble Peace Prize. The Russo Japanese War was going on from
1904 05, he won the Noble Peace Prize by being the meditator of the peace between the two countries.

He created numerous programs through his New Deal to help those affected by the Depression.
Roosevelt s New Deal programs or what are known as Alphabet Programs, focused on stabilizing the
economy by creating long term employment opportunities, helping homeowners pay mortgages and
stay in their homes which also kept the banks debt free, and decreasing agricultural supply to increase
prices. These programs were helpful and they effected people in a positive way, many gained jobs out
of them and a place to call home. All of his deals were affective and some have even stuck around
since then, that just goes to show what an impact Roosevelt left and that what he came up with was

A Critique of Today s Process of Ijtihad
A Critique of Today s Process of Ijtihad
Recent achievements in Islamic banking do not indicate an advance in the jurists interpretation of riba.
Writings on riba have been extensively concerned with the expositions of riba, but with disquisitions
about riba. Thought about riba, and any other Qur anic penetrative codes, must be a story of
movements in outlook and ever changing ideas, and developments taking place in contemporary social
sciences. Its province is destined by God, may he be exalted, in a way to be determined and re
determined in the course of time by drawing insights from different branches of human science. The
subject of riba, and other divine codes in Qur an regarding dealings and transactions is such that no
cohesive delineation of the scope can be regarded as final.
Some of needless difficulties that have arisen in a proper interpretation of riba are of linguistic origin.
The jurist s business is with words. Words are not only tools of thought, but also control it.
Accordingly, to think profitably about riba will be assisted by a sharpened awareness of possibilities
of language, not only to lead thought but also to mislead it. This paves the ground on which the
Islamic jurists adherence to their predecessors grasp of riba is questioned. This should not be deemed
a denial of the rich legacy handed down from the predecessors. A modern society cannot but build
upon the foundations laid in the past.
However, this must be carried out with due

During the Growth Stage, a company aims to develop brand recognition and increase their customer
base. The quality of the product is often improved and technical support is usually enhanced. Pricing
remains generally stable as demand continues with minimal competition. During the Maturity Stage,
the company has successfully established product and the aim for the manufacturer is now to maintain
the market share they have built up. This is probably the most competitive time as KFC, now, has to
take into consideration of Porter s five forces analysis. For instance, other fast food oligopoly such as
McDonald s, Subway, Burger King and so on might come out with similar product of relatively
cheaper price as substitute. Moreover, small businesses are able to enter to the market because of
reasonable production costs. A successful strategy needs to be based on assets and competencies
because it is generally easier for competitors to duplicate what you do rather than who you are, said
David A.Aaker Strategic Market Management. The firm should invest to regain a dominant position
so that it is a point of advantage if other firms are catching up. A satisfied customer is one who will
continue to buy from you, seldom shop around, refer other customers and in general be a superstar
advocate for your business, said Gregory Ciotti Help Scout.

Beethoven Comparison
Both Richard Wagner and Ludwig van Beethoven were incredibly influential composers of their time,
incorporating techniques and changes that soon led to a shift in musical direction in their respective
eras. Given thought, it s hard to discern which was the more influential, however they both contributed
greatly to music of the time and music to come. The two permanently changed the face of music, but
also differed in person and the centuries ahead that they influenced.
The pair of composers were both born in Germany, to musical fathers who heavily influenced their
careers. Wagner s alleged biological father, Ludwig Geyer, was constantly working within the theater,
and often brought Wagner along with him. Beethoven was born into a highly musical family heavily
involved in the church, and his father was his first teacher of music. Beethoven and Wagner both
shared unique ideals about music that shaped the future of music, namely Beethoven s break with ...

Beethoven was most well known for his nine symphonies, while Wagner was best known for his
operatic works. Beethoven was a heavy innovator of the symphony, most evident in the final
movement of his ninth symphony with his incorporation of a full choir. Wagner was one of the first
composers to completely drop the idea of tonality, which became very popular during the advent of
twentieth century music. Wagner also created the Leitmotif, which is used heavily in the scoring of
movies. Also, while both were German born composers, Wagner was heavily nationalistic to the point
of denouncing the musical works of those without german heritage, and being anti semetic. Wagner
and Beethoven both differed on how they lived their lives as well, as Wagner was known to
accumulate debt in a location until he became hated, then leave that town for another, while
Beethoven spent the majority of his life in Vienna,

Diego Rodríguez de Silva y Velázquez, a well-known painter...
Diego Rodríguez de Silva y Velázquez, a well known painter during the 17th century, was born in
Seville in 1599 (Brown 1). He was the eldest of the seven children, and the son of Silva and Jerónima
Velazquez (Brown 1). Both of his parents claimed to be descendants of lesser nobility, a claim that
Velázquez will later benefit from (Brown 1). During his time, painting was considered a craft, which is
work done with hands rather than the mind, meaning it was unworthy of a nobleman (Carr 26).
Velázquez was sent to Franciso Pacheco, a well known painter in Seville, as an apprentice (Carr 26).
Under Pacheco s teachings, Velázquez began to use everyday life as his subjects, which at the time
was something new; he painted tavern and kitchen scenes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of these fascinating qualities of Velázquez s paintings later influence Goya, Mazo, Juan Carreño,
and many more. Las Meninas, which means the maids of honor, is considered to be Velázquez s
masterpiece within has last few years (Harris 170). Most of the information we know today, come
form Palomino, who is the Court Painter to Phillip IV s successor, Chalres II (Harris 170). Palomino
even knew all of the people being portrayed except for one, and even gave the date when the painting
was completed, 1656 (Harris 170). The center of the piece is focused on the Infanta Margarita, the five
year old princess, who is surrounded by her two meninas, maids of honour. The menina standing on
the Infanta s left side, handing her a vessel of water while doing a curtsey is named María Aguestina
Sarmineto (Carr 47). The menina standing on her right look as if she is about to bend down to whisper
something to the princess or about to do a curtsy is named Isabel de Velasco (Carr 47). In the bottom
right corner of the painting are two dwarfs, Maribarbola and Nicolas Pertusato (Carr 47). Nicolas
appears to be awakening the mastiff (Carr 47). Palomino said that when the mastiff was being painted
it had stayed motionless (Harris 170). Standing behind them is Marcela Ulloa, who is the attendant to
the ladies in waiting, and a male escort who is not named (Carr 47). In the doorway of the painting
stands the Queen s Palace Marshal, also known as the Queens Chamberlain,

Changes Brewing For African American History
Changes Brewing for African Americans in 1950s
Determined to write a play about African American experience in the United States for every decade
during the 20th century, Wilson has written many plays representing each of these decades. Fences is
one of such plays about African American in the 1950 s. It began in 1957 and ended in 1965; however,
the 1950s marks the time period when the struggle against segregation and racial discrimination
became strong in the mainstream of American life, showing that the wind of change was blowing.
Bringing to consciousness events taking place prior to civil right movement in fences, Wilson s
characters attest to the fact that the United States ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This setting is noteworthy because of the industrial importance of the north to African Americans in
the decades preceding civil war. According to Richard, Troy Maxson s father a sharecropper was
frustrated by the fact that every crop took him further into depth (1018). Richard means that
economical state of the south was not favorable for sharecroppers and mostly backs. During that
period, poverty, racial discrimination and savage conditions in the south caused many blacks including
Troy and other men to migrate to the industrial north in search of a means of livelihood, but these men
were met with utter disappointment. With no infrastructure or resources to live on, men like Troy and
Bono resorted to living in shacks, committing crimes and ending up in jail. Wilson clearly shows a
relationship between the freeing of the slaves and disproportionate number of African American men
in jail as well as in low income occupations by contending that the majority of unequipped, resource
less and homeless group released into a competitive and financed society will find it difficult
surviving lawfully in such a society. Wilson s characters attest to the fact that the United States failed
African American after Abraham Lincoln ended slavery and that the United States failure, legalized
through Jim Crow laws and other measures taken lawfully to ensure inequality, continues to affect
many black lives. Wilson depicts the 1950s as a time period when new doors of

contributions. In the past, TideeKleen used to be a famous company in its fields, with strong
reputation for social and environment responsibility. Unfortunately, the company hit temporarily
financial and reputational issues. Standing among three tough choices, the company should make
decision which satisfies all parties related, helping the company overcome the issue, and bringing the

Not frigging ballet. It is Billy who identifies his father s shame It s not just poofs, Dad. Some ballet
dancers are as fit as athletes
An individual s determination can inspire them to transition into a new world. In the opening scene,
the slow motion shot of Billy jumping up and down on the bed with a close up of his jovial face
reveals his natural talent for dance and feel for music. The flower wallpaper in his bedroom
compliment the colours of his clothes and shows a sense of harmony and his fantasy world of dance
and music. Billy goes to the library and steals the ballet book that he is told he is not allowed to
borrow. When Billy is practicing his arabesque in the bathroom a high angle image of tutus moving
through a spiral staircase is contrasted with Billy in the bathroom. Here, music is played non
diagetically in the bathroom and diagetically in the dance class. The use of Daldry using various shots
of Billy in different clothes at different times, reinforce the fact that Billy is beginning to express his
fondness for ballet and is determined to become better at it. Billy s determination and drive to move
into the world of ballet is expressed where Mrs Wilkinson goes to Billy s home to tell Jackie and Tony
about Billy s audition for the Royal Ballet School. Tony is the most vocal in expressing his
disapproval of his brother s dancing. He s only a bairn. What about giving him a childhood? Billy

The reason why this is the way to go is that relational databases are limited in the number of relationships that can be dug down and analyzed. Using a dimensional model will allow the use of multi dimensional cubes to be able to pull 3 or more dimensions back into a pivot table. An example would be Sales by customer service rep by assigned sales territory. This provides a deeper detail of data than you would be able to get out of a relational database. For each department of the university, I propose a Data mart for each one. The reason why this is the case is so that every department can manipulate their own data as they see fit with their own resources because it is on a different server than another data mart typically. The look and feel of the Data Mart is up to that department and does not bother the other departments Data Marts. Individual data marts can also increase response time because there are not as many people hitting them all at one time. If a new department were to pop up, data mart creation is very easy to do. Each record will be unique based on the primary or composite keys of the table, and those keys could be surrogate keys such as using AutoNumber like in Microsoft Access. Depending on the analysis of the data, it may be determined that the ID numbers between student and teacher are unique and this can be the way to link items together throughout the database. The ... • 3. Morality In The Great Gatsby Frustrated by years of oppression and starvation, French peasants began a revolution to overthrow the monarchy and system of aristocracy. However, the peasant s dream for a chance to make something of themselves, quickly spiraled out of control and became the means for many to brutally avenge years of mistreatment. In the end, although the French Revolution brought a new system of government to power, the lifestyles of the peasants hardly improved. Similarly, in the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the protagonist, Jay Gatsby, dreams to make a better life for himself, but spends his life on a fruitless quest. Gatsby s moral ambiguity reveals his confusion in the pursuit of dreams rendered unattainable by the rich. Jay Gatsby often conducts himself admirably, yet earns a fortune selling alcohol illegally, making it difficult to discern his true character. While everyone else at his parties would be mingling with women, no one swooned backward on Gatsby (50). Singularly focusing on his dreams, Gatsby refrains from the trifles of his parties and comports himself honorably. Set above his parties both literally, as he watches over the scene, and in terms of the magnitude of his aspirations, Gatsby refuses the temptations of his setting. In addition, Gatsby hardly drank due to his experience with Cody (100). Thoughtfully noting the unfortunate fate of Dan Cody, Gatsby shuns alcohol in his effort to achieve his dreams. • 4. Hieroglyphics and History of Mathematics Hieroglyphics deal a lot with the history of math, because it was one of the earliest of maths. The ancient Egyptians were the first civilization to practice the scientific arts. It is said that the Egyptians introduced the earliest fully developed base 10 numeration systems at least as early as 2700 B.C. The word chemistry is derived from the word Alchemy which is the ancient name for Egypt. It was between the third and first millennia B.C. It later then died in 400 AD. This was first used as legal matters such as commerce, education, literature, and science. This type of math was mostly used by Egyptians, but there numbering was different than ours today. Instead of them using numbers they would use pictures to illustrate the numbers. It is said that hieroglyphics were created by the Egyptian god Thoth. He is said to be the god of the moon, magic, and writing. Hieroglyph comes from the root word hieros which is Greek meaning sacred, and the root word glypho which means inscription. Hieroglyphs were first used by Clement of Alexandria. It was first used in ancient Egypt, as a decimal numbering system. But the decimal was non positional; it could deal with numbers of great scale. Egyptian used this method mostly in medicine and geometry. The earliest known examples of hieroglyphs in Egypt have been dated to 3,400 BC. The latest date in hieroglyphs was made on the gate post of a temple at Philae in 396 AD. The Egyptians were really involved in medicine and applied ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Despite Nixon s attempts at de escalation, he was also secretly increasing bombing campaigns in Laos and Cambodia in order to stop the supplies coming from the Ho Chi Minh trail. The operation was kept secret from congress and the American people because Cambodia was technically a neutral country. The operation authorized B 52s to bomb Vietnamese bases and supply areas outside of Vietnam. A total of 111,000 tons of bombs were dropped from 1969 to 1970 inside Cambodia. Consequently, protest erupted over Nixon s decision to further expand the war into neutral territory. The most famous protest over the bombings in Cambodia took place an American college campus ... However, the North Vietnamese negotiator walked away from the negotiation table and the Nixon administration gave the North Vietnamese an ultimatum; return to the negotiation table or else. The new offensive included sending 700 B 52 bombers and 1,000 jet fighters to bomb the City of Hanoi for 11 days. Nixon also ordered bombing on the NVA in the cities they had taken during the Easter Offensive. The Linebacker offensive was successful and 8 days after the operation had ended, the North Vietnamese began negotiations again After 3 years of negotiations, leaders from all 3 sides including the United States, the North Vietnamese government, and the Vietcong all came together to sign a final resolution. The resolution named the Paris Peace Accords was signed by all 3 parties on January 27, 1973. Stipulations of the Peace accords required an immediate cease fire, releasing of all prisoners of war, US bases to be dismantled and it allowed 60 days for US troops to withdraw. • 6. The Differences Between Legalism And Confucianism Q: Han Fei Zi was known for synthesizing and refining the legalist theories and practices that had been developed before him. Explain his views on law, statecraft and power. Comment on the fundamental differences between Legalism and Confucianism. Han Fei Tzu: Legalism, is an ancient Chinese philosophy concerned with the art of rulership and the stability of the state. Along with hundreds of other philosophical schools, legalism emerged during the Warring States Period (453 422 BC), a time of intense political and intellectual turmoil. Unlike other schools of thought, legalism defined the strength of the state, through a system of punishments and rewards, propagated by common laws. Neither concerning itself with Confucian idealization of the past, or the morality of man, legalisms pragmatic system of governance, as best defined by Han Fei Zi, ended the hundreds of years of warfare and unified China. As aforementioned, Legalism was at the forefront of philosophical discourse during the Warring States Period. The Warring States Period was a time of both immense growth and conflict, as the remaining seven states fought over the dominance of China. Although through much of the Warring States Period, the Zhou Dynasty claimed dominance over China, by the end of the two hundred and twenty five year long period, the Kingdom of Qin emerged victorious. • 7. Antigone And Creon Essay The play Antigone has many complex and some not so complex characters and that is what makes it very easy to create juxtapositions within and throughout the play. Creon was a very basic character in the beginning of the play and proved to be a simple character that believed in one thing that created conflicts. Others added on and together that is where dialogue in the play fills in empty spaces in the play. Conflicts are what makes this play more interesting to the reader. The biggest contrasting character is Creon because of the conflict that he has with Antigone. The line in the second part of the play is the part that sets all the other parts up with depth or good future dialogues Creon says He ll be left unburied, his body there for the birds and dogs to eat, a clear reminder of his shameful fate. • 8. A Report On Google s Driverless Car Google s driverless car; are they the future, technologies most recent trumpet, world s next thing or the latest catastrophe, next failure, biggest let down yet? Google has produce multiple products over the years that were successful and some that lack success. The latest product their trying to liftoff is the Google Car. A driverless car that can rely on their sensors and software to drive themselves. The idea of a car that drives without a driver is by far interesting, but is it good to have a person life in the hands of a machine. Some people thinks this plan is a dead end: Ian Pearson, a futurologist, says What Google is proposing is obsolete, Pearson, who is also a fellow at the World Academy for Arts and Science, said. It doesn t exist yet, but there isn t any point in going through that phase. There are two Italian researchers are looking to release self driving pods. The pods, called Next, they re driverless boxes that will take you anywhere. But even the Next pods fall short of what Pearson foresees. For one, Next is a public transportation system that is controlled by a third party. The pods will pick you up after you request one through an app. (Muoio) So, there other things that are similar to driverless car that are surfacing around the world. Not just driverless cars; but the concept that a computer having to make so many complex choices is unsettling to some people. It involves describing, explaining and predicting attitudes, feelings and behaviours in an attempt to improve performance. In the film Coach Carter, directed by Thomas Carter, sport psychology is used effectively to enhance the performance of a high school basketball team. However, this improved performance is not limited to the basketball court, it extends into the classroom where the students use goal setting, motivation, concentration and confidence control, ultimately to become accepted into college, avoiding a life of drugs, gangs and prison. When the athletes turn up to training late, they run. As well as negative motivation, negative reinforcement is present in the scene where Coach Carter is giving statistical feedback to his athletes. Mr Worm, you were five and four... five turnovers and four missed free throws. As a result of these errors, Coach Carter decides to add an extra practise session every morning at 6am to teach his players the fundamentals of the game. One type of motivation left out of Coach Carters repertoire is intrinsic motivation. Intrinsic motivation is the desire to learn and perform well that comes from within an individual. This is a shame because intrinsic motivation has been proven to be the most successful type of motivation when it comes to keeping a commitment. Although intrinsic motivation does come from within an individual, eg; the desire to win a trophy for a grandfather, it can still be inspired by a coach. Behaviour becomes either more or less likely depending on its consequences. The theory is that if you reward behaviours they are more likely to occur again, while punishment is more likely to reduce the chances of that behaviour occurring in the future. Coach Carter successfully uses negative motivation, however, positive motivation is rarely used and sport psychology research overwhelmingly supports the use of a predominantly (80 90%) positive approach. • 11. Policy And Implications Of The President s Inaugural... Assignment #1: Policy and Implications Paper Mary Marrone USC School of Social Work January 29, 2016 Section One: Choose and Research a Policy Introduction At the president s inaugural, the 2010 National Drug Control Strategy presented an evidence based practice that addressed reducing drug use and eliminating its consequences in the United States (National Drug Control Strategy, 2013). The president responded by having his administration draft the third way in drug policy, which rejects taking extreme measures on drug addicts and in criminalizing them, also minimizing the United States participation in the war on drugs (National Drug Control Strategy, 2013). This policy hopes to take a nuance approach on drug policy as it aims to balance public health programs, effective law enforcement, and international partnerships. After all we are in the twenty first century, where forward thinking is highly commendable and very much needed. The third way is rooted in the belief that drug addiction is a disease and causes grave damage to the brain (National Drug Control Strategy, 2013). Therefore it is true that one can seek treatment in hopes of recovery for his/her disease or one has the ability to completely prevent them from acquiring the disease of addiction. This policy is believed to represent the future of drug policy not only nationally, but globally as well (National Drug Control Strategy, 2013). History/Evolution of the Policy The ... In order to maintain bone health, vitamin D helps regulate the use of calcium and phosphorus levels. In the remodeling of bone osteoclats, break down old bone and osteoblasts then come in and lay down a new bone matrix, which increases the bone s density. Calcium and phosphorus attach to newly formed bone matrix made of osteocalcin, which is produced with the aid of vitamin D and vitamin K. The formation of hydroxyappitie, only possible with vitamin D, gives strength and structured to bones. With little intake of vitamin D, the absorption of calcium and phosphorus level significantly lowers in the small intestine. As a result, bone s lack necessary amounts of calcium, causing them to become brittle. Poor, brittle bones then leads to osteoporosis, which begins around the age of 40 due to the breakdown of bone by osteoclasts exceeding the building process of bone by osteoblasts. The highest bone build up possible is during the first 30 years of one s life, therefore being only 20, I need to maintain proper vitamin D levels in order to have the highest absorption of calcium and phosphorus from my daily food consumption (Blake pg. 240 242, 300 305). If so, you could relate with the lawyer in the story Bartleby, the Scrivener. In this story, the narrator, who is a lawyer, has a simple man named Bartleby respond to a job opening as a scrivener. Unbeknownst to the lawyer, Bartleby did not act in the manner the lawyer would have expected. Bartleby is so outside of what is expected that it is almost as if he had died and no longer had to live up to society s standards. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To copy someone else s work nonstop all day every day would get really tiring, but the lawyer says Bartleby gorges himself on copying papers and documents. Usually when someone gorges him or herself in something, it is something that they like or enjoy. In Bartleby s case this is what he does, not because he enjoys it but because it s all he has. This is evident when the lawyer says, He ran a day and night line, copying by sun light and by candle light. (108) This job is all he had in his life. Another case in which Bartleby shares similarities to that of a zombie is when he repeats throughout the story, I prefer not to. No one would ever say these words to his or her boss. That would be crazy, but Bartleby said these words multiple times to the lawyer, his boss. This is similar to the characteristics of a zombie, because zombies do not ever listen to anyone. They do what they want to do and nothing more. Bartleby took the job as a scrivener to try and find a purpose for his life, but soon after his boss abandons him, he ends up in jail. At this moment in his life he sees that he truly has nothing. His quest for purpose as a scrivener has failed. He is at the end of his life, not because he is old or sick physically, but because he has nothing to live for. While in jail he refuses to eat and soon he dies. Symbols of good and evil, lights and darks, sick and healthy, and social and natural balances are reoccurring images throughout Kingsolver s work. Among these images is the one shown of Nathan Price and his counterpart Brother Fowles. Nathan Price is a typical hardcore southern Baptist from South Carolina. • 18. The Ethics Of A Practising Solicitor Essay The main argument introduced in the debate considers whether a practicing solicitor can adhere to the traditional values of moral and ethical integrity that have been reinforced through a set of principles such as the Solicitors Regulation Authority Code of Conduct (SRA). The latter consists of ten mandatory principles that are the professional requirements expected of any solicitor. Traditionally, ethical and moral truthfulness have formed the basis of a competent lawyer and thus when adhering to the traditional principles placed upon lawyers, a lawyer was thought to abide to moral standards. I will aim to tackle the debate by arguing that the SRA provides a framework that allows lawyers to be good people. Secondly, I will also be discussing a lawyer s moral responsibility. and that whilst The lawyer is conventionally seen as a professional devoted to his client s interest and...required, to do some things for that client which he would not do for himself his moral responsibility must not violate the SRA Code of conduct. • 20. The Causes Of Civil War Solomon Otubo Asst. Proff. Gülay Uğuru Göksel What are the causes of Civil War? Do ethnic determinants play an important role? Why are certain parts of Africa characterized by ethnic conflict while other parts remain relatively calm? The conventional understanding on the causes of civil war especially within African countries, to a considerable degree, has being predominantly characterized to draw its root on ethnic divergences. However, such premise appear extremely difficult to be true, owing to the fact that civil war is a complex action and requires the interplay of different variables to make it visible. Nonetheless, the role of ethnic differences in determining civil war cannot be overemphasized. But generalizing ethnic differences as a prime factor that result to civil war sounds unreasonable irrespective of what the actors pretend or claim to have motivated them. For instance, all most every country in Africa is multi ethnic oriented state, and in such a cross cultural environment, it is usual for the minority to lay claim of being short changed either one way or the other. However not all the African countries have witnessed civil war. Within such context one can draw a logical conclusion that there are other variables which directly or indirectly play an interwoven role with ethnicism, or hide under the umbrella of ethnic diversities to cause civil war. • 22. The Reasons For The Revolution Of The American Revolution From 1775 to 1783, the colonists battled against their mother country, England, for their independence. The colonist strived for their independence due to the unequal representation in the British government, the unfair taxes set in the colonies meant to help the British recover from their war debts after the French and Indian War, and the many other factors that drove the colonists away from England. Besides leaving England for those reasons, the colonists wanted their independence, so they can create their own government with their own legislation and desires. They fought for their freedom in order to stimulate a positive change within the country and begin a new chapter for the colonists, which makes the revolution revolutionary. The American Revolution s attempt to establish equal representation of the social classes in government, extend the rights for African Americans, and restore the relationship between the colonists and the Native Americans made the Revolution revolutionary to a certain extent. The American Revolution was revolutionary to a certain extent due to the attempt on establishing an equal representation of the social classes within the new American government system. What this means is that for accurate data we would need to observe theses children multiple times to see the growth they are making. How do we know infants can see at birth? They can t tell us. For this we depend on clues such as eye movement, light sensitivity and the appearance of the eye. Though an infant s vision is present at birth the strength of their vision is far from mature. However, vision develops rapidly in infants, going from only being able to focus on images 4 to 30 inches away to a rapid ability to see details and shape (Berger, 2014). By 3 months these same infants with immature ability can see patterns color and motion. Surveys and medical research are regularly used to develop a better understanding of infant development. Children develop gross motor skills at different age norms which are affected by their culture and can vary (Berger, 2014). In order to gain information, we need to educate and understand this development, we have to conduct research. We are looking for new information and theories. Although surveys are a great way to collect a large amount of data the information gained is only as sound as the subject. This is why we need other avenues for research, and we need parental support to make that happen.

These two conflicting perspectives threaten their relationships with one another. Junior invokes his patriarchal power in the family and decides to unchain Amor despite objections from the rest of the family. Inday and the rest protest against this patriarchy and choose to leave Junior and Amor in search of a more peaceful life. Eventually, they return as they realize that they should stick together as one family to face the tragedy of Amor s transformation. This illustrates how the duality of identity created through the intervention of the aswang can bring out the best and the worst in people. • 41. A Critique of Today s Process of Ijtihad A Critique of Today s Process of Ijtihad Recent achievements in Islamic banking do not indicate an advance in the jurists interpretation of riba. Writings on riba have been extensively concerned with the expositions of riba, but with disquisitions about riba. Thought about riba, and any other Qur anic penetrative codes, must be a story of movements in outlook and ever changing ideas, and developments taking place in contemporary social sciences. Its province is destined by God, may he be exalted, in a way to be determined and re determined in the course of time by drawing insights from different branches of human science. The subject of riba, and other divine codes in Qur an regarding dealings and transactions is such that no cohesive delineation of the scope can be regarded as final. Some of needless difficulties that have arisen in a proper interpretation of riba are of linguistic origin. The jurist s business is with words. Words are not only tools of thought, but also control it. Accordingly, to think profitably about riba will be assisted by a sharpened awareness of possibilities of language, not only to lead thought but also to mislead it. This paves the ground on which the Islamic jurists adherence to their predecessors grasp of riba is questioned. This should not be deemed a denial of the rich legacy handed down from the predecessors. A modern society cannot but build upon the foundations laid in the past. However, this must be carried out with due ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
