The Outsides And The Wednesday Wars And The Outsiders
People with normal names live a privileged life. If your first name is something like James or Emma
and your last name is something like Jones or Williams then you have no idea what it s like to have a
name that is unusual or original. However, the main characters from the novels The Outsiders and The
Wednesday Wars know this feeling too well. Imagine having the name Ponyboy Curtis, or Holling
Hoodhood because you could definitely have some trouble fitting in being called by a name like that.
The Wednesday Wars is about a 13 year old boy growing up in Long Island during the late 1960 s
living through all the politics and opinions in the year but also dealing with small middle schooler
problems like having to wear tights in a play and getting bullied by the big kids . The outsiders is
about a 14 year old boy growing up in Tesla, Oklahoma also during the late 1960 s. However, in this
story the kid doesn t talk about politics at all, instead he talks about his life struggles and real
problems like the death of his parents, living a poor life where his two big brothers have to work jobs
and not go to school to support them, and his brotherhood with the boys in their gang called the
greasers. However, these two boys, despite having very different upbringings definitely have a few
things in common, starting with their unique names. Imagine trying to live a perfect suburban life and
having the last name Hoodhood. Or trying to be tough to stay alive but the first name

Analyzing The Short Story Popular Mechanics By Raymond...
Raymond Carver, the author of the short story Popular Mechanics, repeats words to influence the
importance of the word and to describe. Carver repeats the word Baby, to show that the story revolves
around it. The author repeats the word suitcase to inform the reader that someone will leave soon.
With this evidence the reader can tell that Carver repeats words to explain the importance of it or to
inform.
Carver frequently repeats the word baby to imply that the story revolves around the baby. The way the
author uses the word baby is mainly in dialogue, both parents repeatedly say I want the baby. To end
the story carver uses the baby as the main subject, because both parents are grasping the baby as tight

The Fall of Enron
Case: The Fall of Enron
1. Why was Enron such an admired company prior to 2000? What innovation do they bring to the
table? Be specific and support your statement with concrete information.
Enron was an admired company prior to 2000 because at that time it surfaced as a frontrunner in the
deregulated energy market, making it possible to sell energy at higher prices, thus significantly
increasing its revenue. The company, through efficient management team, has built leading businesses
in energy trading and international energy asset construction. The company has managed to maintain
high return from its investments through ideal placement of resources by creating long term and fixed
price contracts with clients that guaranteed stable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The company was constantly emphasizing its stock price. The policy of stock option awards caused
management to create potential situations of rapid growth in efforts to give the appearance of reported
earnings to meet Wall Street s expectations. Although Enron s compensation and performance
management system was designed to retain and reward its most valuable employees, the system
contributed to a dysfunctional corporate culture that became interested only in short term profits to
maximize bonuses. In addition, accounting results were recorded as soon as possible to keep up with
the company s stock price. This practice helped ensure deal makers and executives received large cash
bonuses and stock options.
Enron s auditor firm was accused of applying thoughtless standards in its audits because of a conflict
of interest. The firm was generating a large amount of money for its consulting fees for Enron. The
firm s methods where questioned when it seemed as though the reports were completed only for the
annual fees to be collected. Furthermore, it was also criticized for lack of experience in reviewing the
files.
The Enron board of directors failed to closely analyze market trends, which would have led to better
decisions being made when it came to acquisitions and mergers. Because of this the company found it

Analysis Of Blood Meridian And Evening Redness In The West
Blood Meridian or Evening Redness in the West tells the story of a kid named the kid and his violent
adventures of traveling the American west during the early 1800 s. The story starts off with the kid
running away from his abusive alcoholic father. The kid is 14 years old at the time and decides to go
to Memphis. During the kid journey, he meets and befriends a man named Toadvine. Both characters
travel together until they met a man simply known as the Judge. The Judge is a man that enjoys killing
and causing violence everywhere he goes. The kid and Toadvine eventually join a scalp hunting gang
that the Judge is part of. The gang travels all throughout Texas, New Mexico, and Nevada killing and
collecting the scalps of Native Americans. Everywhere the gang travels they bring death and
destruction with them. The gang kills anyone that does not serve any value to them including their
own members. Out of everyone in the gang the kid is the only one with a moral conscious and has a
hard time killing anyone unless it s in self defense. The gang eventually met their end when they were
attacked by Yuma Native Americans in a sneak attack. After the attack, the kid, the Judge, Toadvine
and 2 other members were the only survivors left. Fearing the Judge, a member of the gang
encourages the kid to kill the Judge when he lets his guard down, but the kid couldn t pull the trigger
and instead leaves the gang. Years later the kid grows up and is now known as the man meets the

Realism Within Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho
Realism within Alfred Hitchcock s movie Psycho (1960) is in the form of his camera technique. In this
film, Hitchcock used the camera as the diegesis. He manipulates the camera to draw the attention of
the audience. When the credits suddenly appear on the screen using editing transiting lines across. He
uses a sharp musical score throughout the credits to give the audience the sense of horror and
suspense. The symbolism with in the credits is the dark being the dominant color and creates a visual
of silent film era movies. At the beginning of the movie the camera pans from the city skyline to the
window then a low shot of the bed where Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) and her lover Sam Loomis
(John Gavin) are having an affair just like a bird. When Marion returns home from her job. The
camera takes on human qualities as it roams around the room looking questionably at the money
envelope. Hitchcock uses a close up shot of the money along with suspenseful music to show the
audience that Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) is going to steal the money.
Psycho has goes back to the characteristics of the silent film and film noir movies. It conveys a lot of
the dialogue mainly though close up shots of the characters faces. This is to show the emotions more
precise for the audience. Majority of movies were starting to rely on actors talking in order to tell the
story instead of visual representation. Alfred Hitchcock uses a lot of symbolism in this film. He used
birds as a major theme in the

How Thought Leadership Can Change Your Marketing Strategy
How Thought Leadership can Change your Marketing Strategy
Every business on the face of the planet has a marketing strategy. Whether this marketing strategy is
actually doing its job is another question, but at least one exists. For those looking for new ways to
improve their marketing strategy, one idea to consider is thought leadership marketing.
With thought leadership marketing, data is analyzed and ideas pondered until leaders are able to find
ways to maximize their marketing strategies. Instead of simply delving into the world of content
marketing, inbound marketing or SEO, for example, these leaders live in this world. Taking some
plays from their books will help us all become better thought leaders and ultimately better marketers.
What you re doing Wrong
The first thing that a thought leader will look at is what you are doing wrong when it comes to your
marketing campaign. For example, what does your content balance look like? Does it include any of
the following? One of the biggest mistakes that is commonly seen is that the content creation team
will create content that is too targeted towards an overly small group. What this does is eat into your
marketing budget, which will leave little room for other groups to enter the picture.
Also, a thought leader will take time to look at the quality of your content. Your content should be
valuable and consistent. It should also be high quality and not stuffed full of keywords. Another
mistake people tend to make is making

The Epidemic Of Mass Incarceration Essay
Introduction The epidemic of mass incarceration affects many families within the United States. The
problems of mass incarceration have been echoed far and wide, but it was not until recent years that
the issue has been acknowledged, let alone fully addressed. Authors such as MK Asante and Bryan
Stevenson, and filmmakers such as Ava Duvernay, have all discussed mass incarceration and its
common threads such as the collapse of family structures, damage to mental, physical, and communal
health, amongst other lasting impacts. Despite the commonalities, each artist takes on a different
perspective on the issue and presents it in a different light. Essay A MK Asante, in his book Buck: The
Memoir, highlights the devastation of mass incarceration on the family structure and on individuals,
particularly young individuals, who are incarcerated. Asante utilizes an informal tone and jargon the
way in which the penal and justice systems dehumanizes those it is meant to reform. Asante s informal
approach and use of jargon turns the issue of mass incarceration into a conversation that engages
readers. His feelings about the penal system and justice system are spelled out in the form of a
narrative, thus making it easier for the reader to remain engaged. Brian Stevenson focuses on a variety
of factors and their contribution to mass incarceration such as a lack of knowledge about mental health
and the deterioration of one s well being as a result of imprisonment. He utilizes anecdotes

Stereotactic Radiosurgery
Stereotactic radiosurgery works the same as all other forms of radiation treatment. It does not remove
the tumor or lesion, but is distorts the DNA of the tumor cells. The cells then lose their ability to
reproduce and retain fluids. The tumor reduction occurs at the rate of normal growth for the specific
tumor cell. In lesions such as AVMs (a tangle of blood vessels in the brain), radiosurgery causes the
blood vessels to thicken and close off. The shrinking of a tumor or closing off of a vessel occurs over a
period of time. For benign tumors and vessels, this will usually be 18 months to two years. For
malignant or metastatic tumors, results may be seen in a few months, because these cells are very fast
growing.

Comparing Scarface 1932 And Scarface 1983
Remakes of films are a common occurrence. Sometimes remakes are incredible and introduce a
generation to great films of the past, however, sometimes they aim too high and miss the mark
completely. Scarface 1932 and Scarface 1983 is a great example of the latter. Scarface 1932 was the
first of its kind in many respects while Scarface 1983 fell short. While at the core of both of these
films they are the same, there are a few small plot discrepancies, but the message of the rise and fall of
a man is identical. Visually these films are nothing alike. Beyond the obvious use of color in the 1983
film, the lighting, spacing, and camera work are all different. Scarface 1932 was revolutionary in its
use of low key lighting while Scarface 1983 followed typical lighting conventions. The use of
symbolism in Scarface 1932 was an added layer of complexity to the film that Scarface 1983 did not
have. One thing both films did face quite extensively was censorship. Each film had to be heavily
altered in some way in order for the public to view them. While neither film was truly in the
production code era each film felt the effects regardless. On its own Scarface 1983 is not a bad film,
but when compared to Scarface 1932 it pales in comparison. When one looks into why remakes occur
so frequently, the answer that is found is nostalgia. Gangster films stem from nostalgia much like
westerns do however in both examples neither one is at all an accurate depiction of the time period.

Inequality In I Am Malala
In the book, I Am Malala, Malala discusses how women face inequality in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Malala was named after Malalai of Maiwand, who was a folk hero who lead her people to victory.
Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, was also a prominent role model for women, but unfortunately was
assassinated by a suicide attack. Both woman had a great impact on the rights of women in the
Pakistan/Afghanistan region. However, I believe that Malala promoted the equality of women better
than Benazir. Women worldwide suffer verbal, emotional, physical, and sexual abuse, along with their
sequelae, such as traumatic injuries, sexually transmitted diseases, chronic pain, eating and sleeping
disorders, other psychiatric conditions, and alcohol and drug abuse. To combat the issue of Woman s
Rights there have been organizations who work to stand against the tribal thinking and the traditional
way of gender roles in developing countries. One person known to stand against inequality, to become
the first female Prime Minister, Benazir Bhutto. At the age of 16 she traveled to the United States to
study at Harvard University s Radcliffe College, where she received a degree in government in 1973.
Bhutto went on to study political science, economics, and philosophy at Oxford University, and
became the first foreign woman to be elected president of the Oxford Union debating team.

Banking Services of the Federal Reserve System Essay
Banking Services of the Federal Reserve System
The Federal Reserve System (FRS) is a bank that was founded in 1913. It was founded by Congress
for the purpose of providing the nation with a more sophisticated and secure financial system. The
FRS has duties that fall into four areas. They are conducting the nation s monetary policy, supervising
and regulating banking institutions, maintaining the financial system s stability, and providing certain
financial services to the U. S. Government, financial institutions, public, and foreign officials.

Even thought the EFT is the faster way of doing things, there are a few simpler ways to use the
banking system. Cash services are the most simple and most important function of the FRS. The
system makes sure that there is enough currency and coin flowing to meet the needs of the banks and
consumers. All currency is in the form of Federal Reserve notes. These notes are obligations of the U.
S. Government, and are designed and printed by the Bureau of Engraving and Department of Treasury.
There are twelve Federal Reserve banks that are approved by the Federal Reserve Act to issue the
currency that is made. What happens if the currency is thought to be counterfeit after being in
circulation? Along with the bills that have been worn through use, suspected counterfeit bills are
placed aside for later inspection. If, in fact, they are counterfeit, then the bills are destroyed and the
face value is subtracted from the total value of the Federal Reserve notes. When people think of bank
transactions, they usually think of coins and dollar bills as the form of transaction, but what about
check transactions? Since checks are not considered as currency and coin, how are they transacted?
Checks would fit into the non cash transactions along with the EFT. Checks that are collected through
the FRS are credited to the place where the check has been sent. If the check happened to be an
interbank check, the process

The Link Between Market Baseline And The Public Objectives
3.2 The link between the market baseline and the public objectives In some situations, countries often
provided a loan to specific enterprises or made some advantageous policies in order to achieve public
goals. Hence, some people questioned whether the public objectives should be taken into
consideration when the benefit analysis is operated. This question has raised great controversy. Some
people think that the determination of subsidies and the public objectives are two different matters,
while others argue that the public objectives should be taken into account. They further declared that
the government, which pursues public goals should be tested by public investor standard, rather than
the private investor standard. From the perspective of the author, the public objectives should not be
taken into account when the advantage analysis in the subsidy law is operated. A typical case which
was not officially confirmed could provide us some inspirations.

last to step off, and I will leave no one behind. Dead or alive, we will all come home together. So help

LT. Colonel Hal Moore The quote above personifies what type of person LT. Colonel Moore was. In
today s society you will rarely find individuals such as LTC. Hal Moore that exhibit those rare
qualities of what a leader should be. In this essay I will describe some of the leadership qualities that
are displayed in the movie We Were Soldiers. I will also discuss how the characteristics were
portrayed, evaluate the success or lack of for each, apply a real life situation and explain how his
leadership style affected those who followed.
The first of the leadership qualities that I will mention being proactive versus reactive. According to
the Holden Leadership Center at the University of Oregon (2009) being proactive is that The
exceptional leader is always thinking three steps ahead. Working to master his/her own environment

The Contribution of Texas in WWI
Texas contribution during WW II
When Japan attacked the US naval base at Pearl Harbor on the 7th day of December 1941, this marked
the beginning of WWII since the USA was heeded for a revenge mission soon after that and indeed on
the following day, the USA declared war against Japan. Soon countries were taking sides and
alignments were formed in anticipation of the impending war. The entire USA was called upon to
volunteer to the war and Texas was not left behind. Before the commencement of the war, Texas was
predominantly a quiet place with frontier traditions and rural life dominating the state. The life of the
Texans was predominantly within their ranches and farms and never ventured far off their local
ranches with farming being the predominate activity. Texas Historical Commission (2012) indicates
that even though Texans were only 5% of the total USA population, they accounted for at least 7% of
the response to the call for volunteers into the WWII. Texas was not only affected at the societal level
and the economy but there was a shift in the landscape. The fact that there were expansive land and a
moderate temperature in Texas made it a preferred ground for trainings. There were more than 75
major military installments across Texas with 65 of them being Army fields, 35 of them being Army
forts and camps 7 of them being naval bases. It is noted that there were also 60 branch prisoner of war
camps. Socially the war also cost Texans a great deal since more

The Impact Of Technology On The Workforce
The advancement of technology has impacted many areas of life, especially the workforce. Advances
in technology, such as the development of the robot, have started to have a significant impact on the
individual worker. These workers come from many different areas of life, some including
manufacturing, service, and jobs that do not require much education. For example, manufacturing jobs
have been impacted by the robot because the robot is able to perform manufacturing skills at an easier
and faster rate than humans. Jobs that also do not require extensive education will be impacted
because robots will be able to replace these humans since it does not take a lot of expertise to fulfill
these particular jobs. The interaction with robots is also an area addressed in the paper.
Communication with other humans will be affected because people will be dealing with robots more
at your local stores or your local movie theaters. Humans will be associated more with technology and
less with human interaction. In addition to these ideas, the future of workers is addressed in this paper.
Even though there will be a loss of jobs and a declining economy because of the increase in robots
may at first not seem beneficial, it will all work out in the end. The loss of jobs will create more jobs
since robots will be doing their jobs at a faster rate, creating more of a demand for other jobs to
perform their jobs faster. Humans will have to be recruited for these jobs to keep up with the demand

international factories and cheap labor. He formulates a well written academic journal entry presenting
a stout argument for sweatshops while also presenting possible counterarguments. Zwolinski s
strongest premise is the central idea of choice and voluntary action. In fact, he opens his paper saying:
For the most part, individuals who work in sweatshops choose to do so. They might not like working

Fosamax is a biphosphonate that is commonly used for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis.
It would be best to take Fosamax on an empty stomach with plenty of water. Do not lie down or eat
for at least 30 minutes after taking the pill. The side effects for Fosamax are abdominal pain,
bone/skeletal pain, constipation, diarrhea, dyspepsia, and nausea. I would also tell M.S that
osteonecrosis of the jaw may occur after dental extraction, root canal, dental implant or other oral
surgeries. Lastly I would tell M.S. that oral biphosphonates are commonly associated with a serious
problem called esophagitis which is inflammation of the esophagus. If chest discomfort occurs which
is a symptom of esophageal irritation, she should discontinue the drug and contact her health care
provider. I would assess her for poor renal function, hypocalcemia, and GERD because if she has any
of these, she would not be able to take Fosamax.

Tim Burton Research Paper
What do stop motion animation, creepy movies, and cult classics all have in common? They are all
examples of movies that Tim Burton has excelled in. Stop motion is the most primary form of movie
making being that the first film was Humpty Dumpty in 1898. Creepy is defined as anything
unnerving or causing unease and movies like these are most often considered to be grouped in the
horror category and it takes a certain kind of audience to appreciate this kind of movies. Then cult
classics have made such an impact in our culture today, so many things have been based on cult
classic films, like everyone knows the scene in psycho when Marion, the main character, was killed in

Burton is comfortable with the macabre. meaning that he knows how to make grotesque movies and
make them well this is shown in many of his movies like The Corpse Bride and Betelgeuse. At the
time that Burton s first film was released critics deemed it too scary for children, this is Burton said
his intentions were never to make a horror film. which is interesting because most of the movies he
has directed have fallen into the horror genre, which proves that he is just a genius at being creepy, he
does not try to scare people but he somehow still ends up directing horror films. Burton has actually
stated I ve always been misrepresented. You know, I could dress in a clown costume and laugh with
the happy people but they d still say I m a dark personality (Tim Burton). He knows that people

Why White America Is Dying
White America is dying. Whites are reported to be dying faster than they are being born. America is
becoming more diverse every year. Interracial marriages are more common than ever before. The
minority population is expected to rise and become the majority. The looming end of white America
has led to racial mimicry, white identity politics, and racism. In Southern California, whites are no
longer the majority in public schools. Throughout my years in school, from kindergarten to high
school, Hispanics and Asians were the majority. There were no whites in the schools I attended. There
were few white teachers in my schools who practiced racial mimicry. In sixth grade, my English
teacher practiced racial mimicry. She is a white woman who had

Along The River During The Qingming Festival Analysis
When mentioning Along the River During the Qingming Festival, most people will immediately think
of the version by the Song dynasty artist Zhang Zeduan, which is undeniably the earliest and most
well known version. There are many copies and variations of this work, including a painting by the
Ming dynasty artist Qiu Ying, which is also called Along the River During the Qingming Festival.
Although the artist uses the same title, this painting has its own beauty and connotative meanings that
cannot be ignored and which people need to discover and appreciate. Zhang Zeduan s masterpiece
depicts the landscape of his hometown, Kaifeng and the life of its people during the Song dynasty.
Nearly 500 years later, Qiu Ying portrayed his hometown Suzhou in a similar way, but in his version,
the scenes are different to the original version. Compared to Zhang, Qiu Ying added more blue and
green landscape patterns, and the feeling of the artisan is not strong in this work. The most important
thing is that both artists show different visual perspectives of the culture and customs of the city.

While Qiu s work depicts the prosperity of Suzhou in the middle era of the Ming dynasty, Zhang s
painting shows the daily life of people in Kaifeng during the Song dynasty. Qiu Ying s buildings are

an important page in Chinese history by combining the history and reality of a genre painting. So
many landmark buildings in Suzhou are clearly recognizable which show the developed economy and
traditions of the Ming dynasty and the artist s own style. Qiu Ying uses the traditional blue and green
style in this painting, leading to a beautiful picture which is filled with bright green mountains and

Analysis Of Christina Rossetti s The Goblin Market
Kay Campbell
Dr. Kelly
Women in Literature
6/19/2016
Laura and Lizzie? Or Humanity and Jesus? In Christina Rossetti s the Goblin Market, sisters Laura
and Lizzie are key factors in the poem s allusion to biblical text. Rossetti illustrates this by letting each
sister represent two different sections within the bible the Old and New Testament. Laura represents
the Old Testament, in particular, the book of Genesis. Some critics suggest that Laura takes on the role
as Eve, since both women are beguiled into eating forbidden fruit or in Laura s case, the Goblin men s
fruit. However, it becomes apparent that perhaps Laura is not just a symbol for the Old Testament and
its characters. Rather, Laura takes on the symbol of humanity who has fallen into sin and a great deal
of suffering. Whereas, Lizzie is the savior figure or Jesus esque character, who witnesses the sin and
suffering of her sister (or humanity in this case) and decides to risk her life in order to save her.
Therefore, Rossetti uses the relationship between Laura and Lizzie to allude to the relationship
between humanity and Jesus; how one character saves the other from the grasp of death. Initially,
Rossetti s allusion to the Bible depicts Laura as the symbol of a fallen humanity. In the beginning of
the poem, Laura and Lizzie are on the same page, they both know that it is ill advised to eat the goblin
men s fruit. In fact, Laura is more adamant about being strong willed against the goblin men s
temptation

The Beatific Vision In St. Paul s Analysis
Presocratic philosophers in their search for the truth caught glimpses of divinity and of eternal life.
This search culminates in Socrates, who through his lifelong search for truth gains an image of the
soul and eternal life similar to the Catholic concept of eternal life. In the Phaedrus, Socrates says that
when all divine souls go to feast at the banquet (Phaedrus 247b), they ascend to a place beyond heaven
to gaze upon a supreme divine being. Similarly, In his letter to the Hebrews, St. Paul speaks about the
mass a copy of the heavenly sanctuary the beatific vision. Socrates, through natural revelation,
grasped at an image of the divine and the beatific vision which is only fully revealed through divine
revelation. Every artist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He saw the things of divinity, beauty, wisdom, and goodness, as nourishment of the soul and a guide

the mass as a mirror of eternal life. Combined, the natural philosophy and divine revelation paint a
pure picture of eternal life. Plato could get to an imperfect description of the divine which Christianity
is certain of through the mass and divine revelation. The mass, because it was given by divine
revelation and is linked with the beatific vision is a more perfect view of it. Since the mass is a

Amendments Of The 13th Amendment
Thesis
After the United States abolished slavery, the country passed three new Constitutional amendments.
The 13th Amendment abolished slavery, the 14th Amendment provided citizenship to newly freed
slaves, and the 15th Amendment gave them the right to vote. However, the Supreme Court stated
judgments and rulings that placed blacks in a degrading and an inferior position in the United States.
Established from the Jim Crow Laws, throughout the years of 1877 to 1954, schools were segregated
by law. Black people were not allowed to attend a white dominant school. In 1957, Little Rock,
Arkansas, nine African American students enrolled at Central High School, an all white school, were
prevented from entering the school because they were black. It caused conflict and controversy
between the governor of Arkansas and the president of the united states, rebellion of society and the
students (Civil Rights Movement), and in our society today, education is accessible to everyone.
Orval E. Faubus and Dwight D. Eisenhower Governor Orval Faubus was a huge national image of
racial segregation in 1957. Faubus commanded the Arkansas National Guardsmen to deny entrance of
nine African American students, called The Little Rock Nine, to Central High School. In 1958,
Governor Faubus delivered a speech, speaking about school integration. In his speech, he states,

Primary Cause Of The Civil War Essay
The Civil War began from the battle at Fort Sumter, where the Confederacy took Fort Sumter from the
Union. The root of the Civil War is probably one of the most disputed topics in American history.
Some historians argue that slavery was the primary cause of the American Civil War, whereas others
argue that slavery may have been a reason, but not the primary cause of the Civil War. They argued
that the main reason of the Civil War was State s rights were being jeopardized, which led to the State
s seceding from the Union. Starting off, the Civil War began because the south wanted slavery mainly
because they wanted to have workers without having to pay them. Which allowed the South to make
more money to either buy more slaves, more land, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Which means, that this war which surrounds the issue of slavery will affect the whole continent of
United States. In contrast, the people claim the war was over state rights was because President
Lincoln stated he wanted to abolish slavery in all the United States but the Southern states claimed
Lincoln didn t have the power to do that. They claimed state s rights gave the power to decide if
slavery was legal or not to state governments and not the Federal government. The issue was not
slavery, but who decided whether slavery was acceptable, local institutions or a distant central
government power. The war was indeed about protecting the institution of slavery, but only as a
specific case of a state s right to declare a federal law null and void. Southern states sought to secede
because they believed that the federal government had no authority to tell them how to run their
affairs. The primary reason for the Civil War was indeed because of slavery. The South wanted to
break from the North because the South wanted to allow slavery whereas, the North wanted to end
slavery. There was no controversy on whether the war began over the fact that the North wanted to
end slavery whereas the South didn t. However, people soon began to declare the Civil War began
mainly because of the State s worry of their rights. According to William Walker, views on the

Mead Hall In Beowulf Essay
INTRODUCTION
A Lots of great ideas are born and destroyed in a bar or tavern, leaving you to wonder how different

B This concept is interesting because of how the Anglo Saxon warrior culture in the story Beowulf
that was translated by Burton Raffel, actually uses the mead hall as their main political and party

C Would this be better than what we do today with separating the work from the play? Or was it just a
thing of the times.

Pan s Labyrinth And Heroic Ofelia Essay
Pan s Labyrinth and Heroic Ofelia The hero is one of the most commonly seen archetypes throughout
literature and film. While there are many different types of heroes, there are particular characteristics
that identify a character as a hero. These characteristics are largely not in regards to who the hero is:
personality traits, beliefs, or values rather, these attributes concern the hero s journey and the actions
the hero takes while on that journey. In Guillermo Del Toro s film, Pan s Labyrinth, Ofelia is an
archetypal hero because she is born into royalty, leaves her family and land, goes on an adventure,
receives supernatural help, proves herself many times, and is rewarded spiritually when she dies. The
first indication that Ofelia is a heroic character is that she is born into royalty and then leaves her
family and land. According to Bryan Davis, two characteristics of an archetypal hero are that their
birth occurs under unusual circumstances such as being born into royalty and that the hero leaves their
family and land, and goes to live with someone else (Davis). At the beginning of Pan s Labyrinth, the
narrator tells a story about a princess who dreamt of the human world. The princess escaped from her
family and went to the human world, where she was blinded by the sun and her memory was erased.
The story continues to state that the princess eventually died in the human world, but her father (king
of the underworld) believed that her soul would one day return

The Fourth Amendment Of The Fourth Amendment
When the colonists established the bill of rights in the 18th century, the fourth amendment seemed
unambiguous. The government needed to respect the right for people to be secure in their persons,
house, papers and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures and not be violated, and no
warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause. The difference between today and eighteenth century is
that many more situations have come up that weren t around during the eighteenth century. New
technologies, new threats and new circumstances have risen that may diminish the restriction on the
fourth amendment. In order to protect society from new threats and circumstances in America, the
Supreme Court expands their understanding of the fourth amendment to apply it to the new world. The
idea of the respect for privacy antedates American law. Over one thousand years ago a Roman
statesman by the name of Cicero says that there is nothing that should be less dishonored than the
home of man and it is immoral to violate his place of safety. Although this may true, government has
always had a thirst for information. One major example of this is between the English kingdom and
the thirteen colonies. Until 1768 there was something known as the salutary neglect were Britain wasn
t enforcing many of their laws. Due to the major debt from the French and Indian war, laws involving
taxes and controlling American smugglers, needed to be put in place. One key aspect that helped

Why Did the 1905 Revolution Fail
Why did the 1905 revolution fail?
One of the main reasons that the 1905 revolution failed was because the October Manifesto merely
only satisfied the middle classes appetite for reform. However this was only a short term change in
government therefore it was not really a revolution because the changes were not permanent. To add,
the readiness of the liberals to accept the government s political and economical bribes indicted that
they were not genuinely ready for a revolution at this time. Furthermore the duma did not have as
much power as the tsar portrayed them to have. They were not able to pass laws and did not have any
control on the state s finance. To add, another reason why the 1905 revolution failed was because after

The Human Body And Mind Essay
A Picture as I see it.
The human brain is an amazing phenomenon. It is arguably the most important organ in the human
body. True, the heart does pump blood through our veins to transport oxygen from our lungs to the
tissues in our body so we may live, but, without the core of our central nervous system (the Bain) to
regulate the heartbeat, breathing, sight, sensations, hearing and many other functions that our body s
perform every moment of our lives, we would die. Look at the brain as a computer motherboard, it is
programed to tell our body what to do when to do it through thought or instinct. In order for the brain
to tell our body s exactly how to react to a situation it first must know what is going on. This is
accomplished throughout the body by Sensation and Perception. To show how this process works in
the human body and mind, I will choose a painting that I have never seen before and describe how my
mind processes this information and relays it to the rest of my body to get either an emotional or
physical reaction. I will also describe how writing this paper has affected my perception on critical
thinking. First let us start by defining Sensation and Perception. Sensation is the retrieval process of
stimulus from the outside the human body (King, L.A. (2016). Experience psychology. (3rd ed). New
York: McGraw Hill). Perception as also defined by (King, L.A. (2016). Experience psychology. (3rd

  • 12. The Epidemic Of Mass Incarceration Essay Introduction The epidemic of mass incarceration affects many families within the United States. The problems of mass incarceration have been echoed far and wide, but it was not until recent years that the issue has been acknowledged, let alone fully addressed. Authors such as MK Asante and Bryan Stevenson, and filmmakers such as Ava Duvernay, have all discussed mass incarceration and its common threads such as the collapse of family structures, damage to mental, physical, and communal health, amongst other lasting impacts. Despite the commonalities, each artist takes on a different perspective on the issue and presents it in a different light. Essay A MK Asante, in his book Buck: The Memoir, highlights the devastation of mass incarceration on the family structure and on individuals, particularly young individuals, who are incarcerated. Asante utilizes an informal tone and jargon the way in which the penal and justice systems dehumanizes those it is meant to reform. It does not remove the tumor or lesion, but is distorts the DNA of the tumor cells. The cells then lose their ability to reproduce and retain fluids. The tumor reduction occurs at the rate of normal growth for the specific tumor cell. In lesions such as AVMs (a tangle of blood vessels in the brain), radiosurgery causes the blood vessels to thicken and close off. The shrinking of a tumor or closing off of a vessel occurs over a period of time. For benign tumors and vessels, this will usually be 18 months to two years. • 14. Comparing Scarface 1932 And Scarface 1983 Remakes of films are a common occurrence. Sometimes remakes are incredible and introduce a generation to great films of the past, however, sometimes they aim too high and miss the mark completely. Scarface 1932 and Scarface 1983 is a great example of the latter. Scarface 1932 was the first of its kind in many respects while Scarface 1983 fell short. While at the core of both of these films they are the same, there are a few small plot discrepancies, but the message of the rise and fall of a man is identical. Visually these films are nothing alike. Beyond the obvious use of color in the 1983 film, the lighting, spacing, and camera work are all different. Scarface 1932 was revolutionary in its use of low key lighting while Scarface 1983 followed typical lighting conventions. The use of symbolism in Scarface 1932 was an added layer of complexity to the film that Scarface 1983 did not have. One thing both films did face quite extensively was censorship. Each film had to be heavily altered in some way in order for the public to view them. While neither film was truly in the production code era each film felt the effects regardless. On its own Scarface 1983 is not a bad film, but when compared to Scarface 1932 it pales in comparison. When one looks into why remakes occur so frequently, the answer that is found is nostalgia. Gangster films stem from nostalgia much like westerns do however in both examples neither one is at all an accurate depiction of the time period. Many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. Analysis Of Christina Rossetti s The Goblin Market Kay Campbell Dr. Kelly Women in Literature 6/19/2016 Laura and Lizzie? Or Humanity and Jesus? In Christina Rossetti s the Goblin Market, sisters Laura and Lizzie are key factors in the poem s allusion to biblical text. Rossetti illustrates this by letting each sister represent two different sections within the bible the Old and New Testament. Laura represents the Old Testament, in particular, the book of Genesis. Some critics suggest that Laura takes on the role as Eve, since both women are beguiled into eating forbidden fruit or in Laura s case, the Goblin men s fruit. However, it becomes apparent that perhaps Laura is not just a symbol for the Old Testament and its characters. Rather, Laura takes on the symbol of humanity who has fallen into sin and a great deal of suffering. Whereas, Lizzie is the savior figure or Jesus esque character, who witnesses the sin and suffering of her sister (or humanity in this case) and decides to risk her life in order to save her. Therefore, Rossetti uses the relationship between Laura and Lizzie to allude to the relationship between humanity and Jesus; how one character saves the other from the grasp of death. Initially, Rossetti s allusion to the Bible depicts Laura as the symbol of a fallen humanity. In the beginning of the poem, Laura and Lizzie are on the same page, they both know that it is ill advised to eat the goblin men s fruit. In fact, Laura is more adamant about being strong willed against the goblin men s temptation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. The Beatific Vision In St. Paul s Analysis Presocratic philosophers in their search for the truth caught glimpses of divinity and of eternal life. This search culminates in Socrates, who through his lifelong search for truth gains an image of the soul and eternal life similar to the Catholic concept of eternal life. In the Phaedrus, Socrates says that when all divine souls go to feast at the banquet (Phaedrus 247b), they ascend to a place beyond heaven to gaze upon a supreme divine being. Similarly, In his letter to the Hebrews, St. Paul speaks about the mass a copy of the heavenly sanctuary the beatific vision. Plato could get to an imperfect description of the divine which Christianity is certain of through the mass and divine revelation. The mass, because it was given by divine revelation and is linked with the beatific vision is a more perfect view of it. Since the mass is a shadow of the beatific vision. • 34. Amendments Of The 13th Amendment Thesis After the United States abolished slavery, the country passed three new Constitutional amendments. The 13th Amendment abolished slavery, the 14th Amendment provided citizenship to newly freed slaves, and the 15th Amendment gave them the right to vote. However, the Supreme Court stated judgments and rulings that placed blacks in a degrading and an inferior position in the United States. Established from the Jim Crow Laws, throughout the years of 1877 to 1954, schools were segregated by law. Black people were not allowed to attend a white dominant school. In 1957, Little Rock, Arkansas, nine African American students enrolled at Central High School, an all white school, were prevented from entering the school because they were black. It caused conflict and controversy between the governor of Arkansas and the president of the united states, rebellion of society and the students (Civil Rights Movement), and in our society today, education is accessible to everyone. Orval E. Faubus and Dwight D. Eisenhower Governor Orval Faubus was a huge national image of racial segregation in 1957. Faubus commanded the Arkansas National Guardsmen to deny entrance of nine African American students, called The Little Rock Nine, to Central High School. • 35. Primary Cause Of The Civil War Essay The Civil War began from the battle at Fort Sumter, where the Confederacy took Fort Sumter from the Union. The root of the Civil War is probably one of the most disputed topics in American history. Some historians argue that slavery was the primary cause of the American Civil War, whereas others argue that slavery may have been a reason, but not the primary cause of the Civil War. They argued that the main reason of the Civil War was State s rights were being jeopardized, which led to the State s seceding from the Union. Starting off, the Civil War began because the south wanted slavery mainly because they wanted to have workers without having to pay them. Which means, that this war which surrounds the issue of slavery will affect the whole continent of United States. In contrast, the people claim the war was over state rights was because President Lincoln stated he wanted to abolish slavery in all the United States but the Southern states claimed Lincoln didn t have the power to do that. They claimed state s rights gave the power to decide if slavery was legal or not to state governments and not the Federal government. The issue was not slavery, but who decided whether slavery was acceptable, local institutions or a distant central government power. The war was indeed about protecting the institution of slavery, but only as a specific case of a state s right to declare a federal law null and void. Southern states sought to secede because they believed that the federal government had no authority to tell them how to run their affairs. The primary reason for the Civil War was indeed because of slavery. The South wanted to break from the North because the South wanted to allow slavery whereas, the North wanted to end slavery. There was no controversy on whether the war began over the fact that the North wanted to end slavery whereas the South didn t. However, people soon began to declare the Civil War began mainly because of the State s worry of their rights. According to William Walker, views on the Western ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Americanism is the attachment or allegiance to the traditions, interests, or ideals of the United States, cited from the Merriam Webster. It might seem like our country has a hard time coming together and bonding over Americanism, especially since there are many shootings, as well as, riots going on in present day United States of America. Mead Hall In Beowulf Essay INTRODUCTION A Lots of great ideas are born and destroyed in a bar or tavern, leaving you to wonder how different our whole outlook and way of life would be if we did all our major planning and decision making there. B This concept is interesting because of how the Anglo Saxon warrior culture in the story Beowulf that was translated by Burton Raffel, actually uses the mead hall as their main political and party house. C Would this be better than what we do today with separating the work from the play? Or was it just a thing of the times. • 39. Pan s Labyrinth And Heroic Ofelia Essay Pan s Labyrinth and Heroic Ofelia The hero is one of the most commonly seen archetypes throughout literature and film. While there are many different types of heroes, there are particular characteristics that identify a character as a hero. These characteristics are largely not in regards to who the hero is: personality traits, beliefs, or values rather, these attributes concern the hero s journey and the actions the hero takes while on that journey. In Guillermo Del Toro s film, Pan s Labyrinth, Ofelia is an archetypal hero because she is born into royalty, leaves her family and land, goes on an adventure, receives supernatural help, proves herself many times, and is rewarded spiritually when she dies. The first indication that Ofelia is a heroic character is that she is born into royalty and then leaves her family and land. According to Bryan Davis, two characteristics of an archetypal hero are that their birth occurs under unusual circumstances such as being born into royalty and that the hero leaves their family and land, and goes to live with someone else (Davis). At the beginning of Pan s Labyrinth, the narrator tells a story about a princess who dreamt of the human world. The princess escaped from her family and went to the human world, where she was blinded by the sun and her memory was erased. The story continues to state that the princess eventually died in the human world, but her father (king of the underworld) believed that her soul would one day return ... • 43. The Fourth Amendment Of The Fourth Amendment When the colonists established the bill of rights in the 18th century, the fourth amendment seemed unambiguous. The government needed to respect the right for people to be secure in their persons, house, papers and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures and not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause. The difference between today and eighteenth century is that many more situations have come up that weren t around during the eighteenth century. New technologies, new threats and new circumstances have risen that may diminish the restriction on the fourth amendment. In order to protect society from new threats and circumstances in America, the Supreme Court expands their understanding of the fourth amendment to apply it to the new world. The idea of the respect for privacy antedates American law. Over one thousand years ago a Roman statesman by the name of Cicero says that there is nothing that should be less dishonored than the home of man and it is immoral to violate his place of safety. Although this may true, government has always had a thirst for information. One major example of this is between the English kingdom and the thirteen colonies. Until 1768 there was something known as the salutary neglect were Britain wasn t enforcing many of their laws. One of the main reasons that the 1905 revolution failed was because the October Manifesto merely only satisfied the middle classes appetite for reform. However this was only a short term change in government therefore it was not really a revolution because the changes were not permanent. To add, the readiness of the liberals to accept the government s political and economical bribes indicted that they were not genuinely ready for a revolution at this time. • 47. The Human Body And Mind Essay A Picture as I see it. The human brain is an amazing phenomenon. It is arguably the most important organ in the human body. True, the heart does pump blood through our veins to transport oxygen from our lungs to the tissues in our body so we may live, but, without the core of our central nervous system (the Bain) to regulate the heartbeat, breathing, sight, sensations, hearing and many other functions that our body s perform every moment of our lives, we would die. Look at the brain as a computer motherboard, it is programed to tell our body what to do when to do it through thought or instinct. In order for the brain to tell our body s exactly how to react to a situation it first must know what is going on. This is accomplished throughout the body by Sensation and Perception. To show how this process works in the human body and mind, I will choose a painting that I have never seen before and describe how my mind processes this information and relays it to the rest of my body to get either an emotional or physical reaction. I will also describe how writing this paper has affected my perception on critical thinking. First let us start by defining Sensation and Perception. Sensation is the retrieval process of stimulus from the outside the human body (King, L.A. (2016). Experience psychology. (3rd ed). New York: McGraw Hill). Perception as also defined by (King, L.A. In the late 19th century, as the trade union and labor movements grew, trade unionists proposed that a day be set aside to celebrate labor. Labor Day was promoted by the Central Labor Union and the Knights of Labor, which organized the first parade in New York City. In 1887, Oregon became the first state of the United States to make Labor Day an official public holiday. When it became an official federal holiday thirty U.S. states officially celebrated Labor Day. Labor Day is an annual celebration of workers and their achievements. The form for the celebration of Labor Day was outlined in the first proposal for the holiday. A street parade to exhibit to the public the strength and esprit de corps of the trade and labor organizations , followed by a festival for the workers and their friends and families. This became the pattern for Labor Day celebrations. A resolution of the American Federation of Labor convention of 1909, the Sunday preceding Labor Day was adopted as Labor Sunday and dedicated to the spiritual and educational aspects of the Labor movement.
