Summary Of Art Spiegelman s Maus
The book Maus, a graphic novel by Vladek Spiegelman s son, Art Spiegelman is written in the form of
a graphic novel. It elaborates on Vladek s adolescent experiences as a young jew during the Holocaust.
On a surface level, the photographs in Maus contributed to my understanding of the story by giving
Vladek s words a visual. The images tell the story in a direct way by expressing the emotions of his
father as the comic strips transition from the past to present. The format of this story certainly takes
some risks. To some audiences, this format could come off as a joke, as though Spiegelman wasn t
taking his father s story seriously. With a graphic novel usually used to depict fictionally, sci fi like
stories, the audience might think that Art is treating his father s experiences as if they were part of a

This story could possibly be negatively associated with a mocking tone. To some audiences, the way
that Spiegelman depicted the victims as mice and the Germans as cats, could come off as though
Spiegelman was mocking the victims with this prey and predator metaphor. The interviewer
challenges Spiegelman by asking the questions about the aspects of his book that make it the most
controversial. For example, Bolhafner says Harvey Pekar has commented that he feels you shouldn t
have used mice for any of it. He thinks it would have had more impact if you had used people, and is
critical of your using pigs for the Poles (Spiegelman, Art. Art for Art s Sake: Spiegelman Speaks on
RAWS s Past, Present, and Future. Interview by J. Stephen Bolhafner. The Comics Journal #145 Oct.

Atheism Research Paper
Atheism is defined as the belief that divine beings do not exist. Atheists often dispute that atheism is
human s natural state of mind (Greywood). The prefix a , meaning without, and the root theism ,
meaning a belief in divine beings, consequently creates the word s definition: without belief in divine
beings (Sexton). Why do some hold this view in a world that is mostly religious? Perhaps to answer
such a question one should explore and venture to know it. Though first introduced in a sophisticated
and educated manner in Ancient Greek schools of thought, to an atheist s point of view, atheistic
thinking has existed since the first intelligent species of humanoids (Greywood). Atheists assert that
humans are naturally unaware of any divine beings unless indoctrinated about subjects that correlate
with tales of divinity. Throughout history, atheists transitioned from being the loathed members of
society to existing peacefully in society. In Middle Aged Europe any openly, expressed disbelief in the
prevalent religion of the day was met with prompt accusations of heresy. The reigning Roman
Catholic Church persecuted accused heretics: a persecution that often ended at the grave ... Show

Some atheists were born into a secular family, and a life without a divine figure is all that they have
ever known. Some were once very pious and active within a religious or philosophical organization,
but learned more about what they were upholding and seen fault. Some feel that science solely and
unequivocally explains the universe and, as a result, living organisms: finding it entirely unreasonable
to believe that a never before seen figure created everything the human eye can see (Sexton). But
nonetheless, despite the precise reason for lacking a belief in divine beings, all atheists unanimously
agree that they lack belief in divine beings because they view them to be

What Is The Epilogue To Fodo s Hobbit
There once lived a hobbit Frodo Baggins, who lived in a beautiful hobbit hole in the Shire. Frodo was
a peaceful hobbit at the time, but not for long...
Many years ago, he helped destroy Mordor, a great and powerful realm with millions of orcs. At that
time, Frodo was a ring bearer, and fought through all of Mordor s challenges, barely making it out
alive. His journey was to travel to Mount Doom, and drop the Ring of Power into the mountain s lava.
The ring obtained immense power, and brought turmoil to all of Middle Earth. The only way to ensure
the safety of the people, was to destroy the ring for good. Frodo was successful, and saved all of the
living things in the world.
When Frodo arrived back to the Shire, a year later, he was at peace.
Frodo had awakened one morning, and was eager to go to his living room. Hello Frodo, Lacqua read

a bandit came out of nowhere, and stabbed Thorin III, giving his body mager pans.
Nooooooo! Frodo, Snarge, and Lacqua cried, as they had to finish off the rest of the bandits.
After the second round was over, all of them quickly went over to Thorin III, hoping he would still be
alive, but he was no more. Later that year, they arrived back to the Shire, Frodo had his body burn,
and once it was completed, Thorin III was nothing but ash. So Frodo, an Lacqua had spread his ashes
through the mountains, the Ettenmoors and the Shire. Even though Thorin III was not remembered as

How to Construct Research Question
IB Extended Essay Forming a Research Question
Choice of topic
The topic chosen must focus on the human past, be worthy of study, and lend itself to systematic
investigation in line with the published assessment criteria. Essays that focus on events of the last 10
years are not acceptable, as these are regarded as current affairs, not history.
It is not a requirement for the topic to be chosen from the Diploma Programme history course, but it
must be acceptable to the supervisor. It should provide an opportunity for critical analysis of source
material, and not depend on summarizing general secondary sources (such as textbooks and
encyclopedias), as this approach is likely to lead to an essay that is essentially narrative or ... Show

Google Express And Amazon Prime
Executive Summary: Google Express and Amazon Prime are currently competing in the e commerce
sector, particularly with regard to same day delivery. Prime is an established brand with over ten years
of experience, whereas Express has only been around for about a year and a half. Another major
difference is that Amazon operates and distributes from its own warehouses, whereas Google operates
like a high end postal service, shuttling packages from local retailer to customer. There are several
advantages and disadvantages that can result from supply chain processes of each of these companies.
Due to its experience, Amazon has been able to build distinctive infrastructure and wealth of

Amazon and Google Express are two such retailers who are concentrating especially on these
functions by acquiring related technology firms and by engaging in R D. In the future, the e retailer
who offers the fastest delivery will likely be the front runner (Keifer). The competition is intense from
e grocers like Ocado, to clothing retailers like Next and traditional mail services like FedEx. The latest
trend in the industry, after offering maximum variety and flexible payment options, is competition for
same day delivery. Companies like eBay, Walmart, Amazon and Google Express have all started
efforts to try and offer same day delivery. The key to offering same day delivery is to have products
stored near the potential customer. In the following sections we will explain the supply chains of
Amazon and Google Express and analyze the advantages and disadvantages of their respective
business model/supply chain. Amazon Introduction: Amazon was launched in 2005 with its
headquarters in Seattle. It initially offered $79/year for two day delivery nationwide for unlimited
orders. The price has been increased to $99/year now. Some regions where Amazon operates include
other services such as Amazon Instant Video, Kindle Lending Library, Prime Music and Amazon
Fresh. Amazon s supply chain works around 90+ centralized warehouses to distribute products.

The Pros And Cons Of The Confederate Flag
It sure seems like hypocrisy to say we can t fly the Confederate flag because it offends people, when
you fly the gay flag, which certainly offends significant amount of people. Who gets to decide which
flag is allowed to fly and which ones can t? It may be true some racists have used the Confederate
flag, but racists also wave the American flag. So another words the Confederate is NOT racists, us
Americans also wave around a flag (the American flag) so why should us American say it is racist that

supporters of the flag have lost. It s a message that we refuse to allow the people who use the flag as a

The Cruelty Of Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
The inclination to belong in a group or society is naturally present in all humans. We, as a species,
want to belong somewhere or with someone. Even though, we understand the struggle of fitting, we,
as humans still persecute others for not being similar to us. All in all, the exclusion is a form of
bullying. In her novel Frankenstein, Mary Shelley exemplifies this phenomena of human behavior,
when she shows the maltreatment that Frankenstein s monster is given for his unattractive physical
features and what he does to terminate his isolation. Victor Frankenstein engulfed in the dedication of
creating a god like image of himself creates a monster. Upon its creation, the monster s entire
perception of the world was around Victor Frankenstein resembling an infant perceiving its
surroundings through its parents. Victor was the monster s father . The monster tried to learn more
information on its creator by staring at Victor Frankenstein laid out on the bed. The monster is
displaying the behaviors of the attachment theory. All of us have a predisposition to instinctively and
immediately seek to attach ourselves to someone who will keep us safe (Lines 51). Victor
Frankenstein is the first one who outcasts the monster. Victor shuns the monster for being hideous,
from the moment he is resurrected. His aspirations of a creature worth admiring was plunged down the
drain. Ostracized by Victor Frankenstein, the monster left the humble abode of Frankenstein. Child

J. Alfred Prufrock Research Paper
During the time period of modernism, society saw a massive shift, especially from the everyday life of
people in the cities. With improvements being made in transportation and technology this shifted the
way of life to a much faster pace, shrinking the distances between people around the world thus
creating a more rapid pace of life. The emphasis on radical innovations left many people will feelings
of despair, a sense of meaninglessness, and hopelessness. With the ever growing developments to
society, a lack of traditional and cultural norms and beliefs in closely held faiths were strained. These
concepts were much illustrated in the literature of the time. Literary figures such as T.S Eliot
flawlessly depicted the perception of the troubles of the modern man in his poem The Lovesong of J.
Alfred Prufrock, while also integrating the new way of looking and appreciating life will all the good

though he tries to make progress, his irrational fear of failure inhibits him from taking any actions.
Elliot presents Prufrock as the typical modern, urban man. He is an overeducated, sensitive, and
articulate man who muses over missed opportunities about the opposite sex. I have measured my out

It was the main entry point for the people who pursued the Pacific route to arrive in United States. The

Large number of people were processed for immigration over there. Most of the people didn t spent
much time on the island as they were immediately allowed to enter United States. Certain times, they

to the large number of immigrants to be immigrated. Despite of the given name, Angel Island was
different from Ellis Island. On one side, Ellis Island processed large number of immigrants and
welcomed them in the states immediately, while Angel Island on other side didn t welcomed many
immigrants, especially, Chinese immigrants. This is because of the implementation of The Chinese
Exclusion Act in 1882 and its periodical updating till 1943, which lead to hamper the entry of Chinese

were restricted by the immigration officers at Angel Island. Immigration authorities confined recently

noticeable from the other countries, either by instruments used, or lyrically it is different. These things

music to sound like, for example gamelan music is mainly a set of tuned bronze gongs. This is what

The Jegagog is the lowest pitched of the gangsa, the gangsa family consists of instruments which have
brass or bronze keys suspended over a resonating bamboo tube. The Balinese gangsa differs from the
Javanese because the keys make a louder sound and are designed to be struck with different hammers.
This instrument also requires long resonating bamboo tubes so is played while sitting on a chair or
bench. It has five keys (1, 2, 3, 5, and 6). This pattern is commonly found in both Java and Bali. It
plays at submultiples of the pokok and is played particularly at important structural points as do the
gongs.
The Jublag is the next higher pitched of the gangsa, this instrument also requires long resonating
bamboo tubes so is often played while sitting on a chair or bench. The Balinese version has 5 keys (1,
2, 3, 5, and 6) seven key Jublag are also commonly found in Bali. It usually plays at submultiples of
the pokok; the keys are struck more frequently than the jegogan and usually less frequently than the
Ugal. It is one octave above the jegogan and shares tones with the Ugal. Another name for the Jublag
is Calung.
The Kantil shares its lower octave with the Pemade. They are above the Ugal which plays the melody.
There are usually 10 keys (2, 3, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, and i) so the instrument spans two octaves.

This is reflected in the consumer data for this report, with usage of lager dropping off dramatically

Short Story Endings In Short Stories
Closure and Endings found in Short Stories Every story must start somewhere, but not every story has
to have a complete ending, or even a clear one. With the development of the short story, the variation
between short story endings has gradually increased as time has gone on, like the difference between a
final ending in Flannery O Connor s A Good Man is Hard to Find or John Cheever s The Swimmer.
However, the endings of some short stories also depend on the style of how the story is written, like
Amy Tan s Two Kinds, which is a part of a larger novel, and Kate Chopin s The Blind Man, which is a
new branch of short fiction writing called microfiction. The ending also comes about based on the
subject matter found in the story. For example, Tan is a second generation Chinese American like her
character, June, in Two Kinds. Cheever lived through the Great Depression, and his family went
through a similar fall from grace like his character Neddy did in The Swimmer. They say to write what
you know, and these authors come to their endings through their own experiences and the type of style
that they write in. Flannery O Connor was a writer on rented time. Confined to her house throughout
the final days of her illness, critics theorize that she spent a good amount of time thinking about how
her life was coming to a close. Andre Bleikasten, author of Beginnings and Endings in Flannery O
Connor, believes that the reason why many of her stories end with such a finality

Samuel Beckett s Waiting For Godot
Samuel Beckett was born in Ireland on April 13, 1906. Waiting for Godot was composed between
1948 and 1949 in French. The premiere was on January 5 1953 in Paris. After World War II, he wrote
Waiting for Godot. In Samuel Beckett s play, Waiting for Godot, it is essential that the play is
characterized by time and hopelessness. That the purpose of life is unanswerable; there is no apparent
meaning to it. When first analyzing the play, there is an uncertainty if anything happens within the
play or the title character s significance because of the constant repetition without achieving answers
throughout the story. Waiting for Godot captures the feeling that a situation is hopelessly
unfathomable. The play characterizes hopelessness with forms that symbolize humanity and its
behavior with all the characters. It emphasizes that because a human s life is dependant on chance and
that time is meaningless, reassuring that a human s life is meaningless. The reality of this makes
humans ambiguous, looking for outside forces, which may or may not be imaginary, for direction. Just
as Vladimir and Estragon cling onto Godot, without knowing whether or not he or it is real. On of the
play s assumptions is that chance is the main factor behind a human s existence. Again, leading that
human life is determined by and only chance. Beckett beckons on the path of religious symbolism.
Hints of Christianity are influenced in this play throughout. In fact, opening moments of the play,

Society’s Greatest Tragedy Essay
In 415 B.C.E., the Greek playwright Euripides created The Trojan Women, a play that is arguably one
of the best studies of the horrific aspects of war ever written. In her analysis of the play, Professor
C.A.E. Luschnig maintains, [Euripides] has made the Trojan War stand for every war... For war is
society s great tragedy: victory is an illusion (8). While the negative elements of war portrayed by
Euripides can be found in all wars and even war s victors must suffer their defeats, there is an even
greater tragedy to society than war itself. War is but one result of the inherent evil nature of men and
women and that evil nature, not war, is society s greatest tragedy.
The Trojan women of the play were Hecuba, the wife of the late King of ... Show more content on

The Trojan Women begins with the gods discussing the punishment for the Greeks. Next, the Greek
herald, Talthybus, informs the dethroned Queen Hecuba of her fate and that of her daughter,
Kassandra. Hecuba grieves her lot, but her daughter has been gifted with the ability to see the future
and knows of the ultimate punishment of the Greek conquerors. Andromache arrives with her young
son, Astyanax, only to learn that she is to become a Greek concubine and that her son is to be killed to
prevent him from one day avenging his father s death and possibly rebuilding Troy. Next, Helen
arrives and learns that she has been awarded by the Greek army to her former husband, Melelaos, who
plans to have her killed. Helen attempts to defend herself, but finds no sympathy from either the
Greeks or the Trojans. The play ends with the burial of Astyanax, the Trojan women being dragged to
the Greek ships, and the final destruction of the city. Because of Kassandra s prophecies, the audience
knows that the Greek victors will, in the end, have no victory.
C.A.E. Luschnig is Professor of Classics at the University of Idaho and has written a number of
authoritative texts on the Greek classics (Curriculum Vitae). She maintains that Euripedes Trojan
Women has long been considered one of the greatest pieces of anti war propaganda ever written
(Luschnig 8). To properly evaluate her assertions that The Trojan Women s

The Reflection As A Tool For Learning From Experience
John Dewey considered as the pioneer scholar who proposed the reflection as a tool for learning from
experience. According to Dewey (1933), reflection is associated with a thinking about the experience
or event which contains five steps in order to make sense of it and internalise meanings. These steps
are; problem, suggestions, reasoning, hypothesis and testing. In the first step of problem , he proposes
that we need to see big picture of the event which includes the actions, conditions and contextual
factors of the event. As our actions operated in open system (social world), thinking about small
entities may distract us to identify the real cause of concern. In this way, there is high probability to
recognise and understand the perplexity of the event, resulting in more comprehensive action plan to
tackle the situation. Schön (1983) argues similar notion by referring discomfort/ surprises in actions,
but he did that propose any strategy to figure out the actual problem or issue in action. There is a
consensus in literature that reflective thinking is triggered by doubtful situations, discomfort (Dewey,
1933), surprise (Schön, 1983), inner discomfort (Boyed and Fales, 1983), uncomfortable feelings
(Atkins and Murphy, 1993), critical point (Barnett, 1997) and issue in action (John, 2005; Boud, 2010)
and many more. These are various terms used for the recognition of problem in practice that initiate
the reflective practice in practitioner. It suggests that nature of

largest impacts came during the inter war years and World War II. While working as a mid tier
draftsman and designer with the Martin Company, he helped with the design of the illustrious Martin
Bombers which were a series of superior bombers used towards the end of World War I. The Martin
Bombers had new some never before seen features such as closed cockpits, rotating guns and
retractable landing gear as well as much more. The innovation in these planes changed the standards
for bombers at the time thus leading to other bomber designs being obsolete. Then, with his
experience at Martin, Kindelberger was able to move over to the Douglas Aircraft Company where his
genius really began to shine through. With Douglas Kindelberger designed seventy one models for
both military and civil use. One of his greatest accomplishments was the creation timeless DC series.

Factors that Affected the Outcome of World War Two Essay
Factors that Affected the Outcome of World War Two
There were many factors that affected the outcome of World War Two. Some of these were how many
tanks you had, how powerful your tanks were, and how well they were built. The Allies had the most
tanks in the war and this was one of the main things that helped them win. The Germans had the most
powerful tanks in the war, but the allies out numbered them. The Allies using light and medium tanks
in big groups against the Germans powerful tanks was the main thing that helped them win World War
Two.
During World War Two there were many different types of tanks. They were put into categories
depending on weight and armament. There were four main categories of tanks: heavy tanks, medium

This led to American tanks being very maneuverable and mechanically reliable, but there was hardly
enough gun power and usually not enough protection. The Soviet designers put firepower first, and
made protection and mobility equal in second. Their tanks always had good guns, enough protection,
and they were fast, but they were not as reliable as the designers wanted. The British designers put
protection first, mobility second, and firepower third. This led to some failures. By putting firepower
last the guns on the British tanks weren t powerful enough to harm German tanks.
The Germans had the most powerful tank force out of all the countries fighting in World War Two.
Their tank force was composed in 1939 and had 3,195 vehicles in all. During World War Two the
Germans used the Blitzkrieg or lightning strategy, which was very effective. They also put all their
tanks into panzer divisions. These panzer divisions were a big success during the first two years of the
war. Other countries came up with formations similar to the panzer divisions. This led to a drastic
increase in tank production for the Germans. Starting in 1942 they rearmed all of their tanks.
They made them bigger, heavier, have more armor, and they added bigger guns. The main tanks that
they upgraded were the Pz. IV and the Tiger Tank. They also introduced the Panther medium tank
around this time. The Panther medium

Chinese and Mexican Cultural Differences

Response to Chinese and Mexican Cultural Differences The comparison between the Chinese and
Mexican cultures is an interesting and fascinating one. I do agree that music and dancing is a vital part
of the Mexican culture. Mexicans will use any event or situation as a reason to have a celebratory
party. All cultures celebrate events such as weddings, births, and some even celebrate death in a
positive light. The Mexican culture goes beyond the main events in life that we as Americans normally

History is passed down from generation to generation through stories and these stories about traditions
are an important part of conversations in the Chinese culture (Wang, Leichtman amp; Davies, 2010).
The Mexicans enjoy teaching about traditions through acts and events where as the Chinese prefer
passing down traditions through elaborate stories that are based on truths, but will captivate the young
minds of their children. These two cultures share many priorities, but have very different ways of
carrying out those cultural priorities. Though these two cultures have many differences, but for
literally being on opposite ends of the globe, they share a surprising about of commonalities. We
interact with both on a daily basis in the melting pot that defines our American society. Both have
made valuable contributions to our society in the United States and only time will tell what the future
holds as these two cultures continue to interact with one another in our great land.

Dreams In Bless Me Ultima By Rudolfo Anaya
Dreams have many meanings some come in various different forms. Some dreams have very deep
meanings while others are just simply a product of your imagination. For example some people
experience Deja Vu. Deja Vu is when you have a dream of something and then it comes to life. People
who have had Deja Vu have been very surprised. A dream is a product of your imagination some are
just entertaining while others might be viewed as life lessons. Some dreams have deeper meanings
into them, you just have to look for them. For example some people have been having dreams of
going to a certain place then the next morning they end up in the same exact place. When you arrive at
the place you will have a certain feeling like you have been here before then you will remember that
your dreamed about it. Dreams have so much to to do with your imagination but some are no product
of your imagination but a product of reality. Dreams have many meanings they might be good, bad,

History Of Kennesaw State University
The UA is the oldest public college in the state of Alabama. It opened in April of 1831 and students
began to enroll May of 1831. They first offered engineering, then later opened medical school. In
1860 the University of Alabama was officially established as a military school. Sadly a few years later
in 1867 UA was burned to the ground by Union Troops, but that did not stop the university because it
reopened again in 1872 and became a Law School. The one thing that makes me want to go to
Alabama more than anything is their football. Their first football team was created in 1892 and has
been the drive of that university ever since. When comparing these two colleges this is one of the

University of Alabama has always been a dream school for me, but when breaking it down money
wise Kennesaw State is clearly the better option.
Figuring out how you are going to pay for college is the second most important thing and it makes a
decision easier. I am still in high school working a full time job at Belk. I give myself a budget for
every two weeks and put the rest of my money in savings. I look up scholarships daily and am
applying for as many as I can. $50 $10,000 scholarship is better than nothing and it keeps me out of
debt at the end and that is what matters. Unfortunately, I do not have a rich family and no one will be
handing me a lot of money for college, but that just means I need to work a little harder and there is
nothing wrong with that. I will also be taking out student loans to help and my parents will be doing as
much as they can. I ask myself questions like Do I need to go to school because their football team is
amazing or Do I need to focus on the long run and Is going to Kennesaw going to get me just as good
of job as Alabama and save me a little bit more money . So, even with all of these plans I know that I
am still going to have debt, but the real picture to look at is how much debt do I want to have when I
am already trying to find a job.

The Formula Of Magnesium Oxide
The purpose of this experiment is to verify the formula of magnesium oxide based on the masses of
magnesium and the product (MgO). We verify the formula firstly by calculating the empirical formula
of magnesium oxide and then calculating creating the magnesium oxide itself a magnesium ribbon is
combined with oxygen in the presence of air through combustion and this forms MgO. The empirical
formula of a compound is the simplest method of expressing a chemical formula in whole number
ratios of the constituent atoms that are consistent with masses measured in the experiment; whereas
the molecular formula expresses the chemical formula using the actual number of atoms. For example,
the molecular formula of anthracene is C14H10 while the empirical formula is C7H5.
Because of the Law of Definite Proportions, when the elements of magnesium and oxygen chemically
react to form a compound they do so in definite proportions by weight. The Law of Definite
Proportions states that if elements form a compound, they must combine in definite proportions by
weight. This means that all atoms form chemical compounds by combining in whole number ratios.
Take for example the elements of hydrogen and oxygen: they can combine to make water (H2O) but
in other conditions can combine to make hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). In both examples the ratio stays
the same. Likewise, in this experiment the elements magnesium and oxygen combine in whole
number ratios. We have hypothesized that magnesium and oxygen

The Blessed Month Of Ramadan
The blessed month of Ramadan, the time when almost 2 billion muslims around the world are fasting
and attempting to do extra good. Fasting was obligated two years after the muslims migrated to
Medina from Mecca. In Mecca, the economic conditions for the muslims were bad, they were being
persecuted, and often would go days without food or water. It was already difficult enough for them to
find food, it wouldn t be possible for them to abstain from something they were in extreme need off.
After they migrated to Medina, it was like a sanctuary, they were greeted open heartedly, and many
were actually waiting for them to arrive. After they settled down, the verses of ramadan were revealed.
Many people may wonder why are muslims so excited about a month in which they abstain from
food? Who would look forward to something like that? In essence there is much more to ramadan than
just abstaining from food though out the day, it is also about learning self discipline, controlling your
temper, and building your character. It teaches a great amount of patience. Our prophet once said,
Whoever does not give up lying and evil action, God is not in need of his hunger. Not only is it about
purifying your body, also your mind and soul. It is also a chance to increase your good deeds such as
giving charity to the poor, and mending family relationships. As we go through the day in hunger and
thirst, we experience the feeling of the poor who cannot afford a meal, which would result

Vegetarianism In Tibetan Buddhism
Tibetan Buddhism, a Mahayana sect, is a unique exception in strictly following the vegetarian diet, as
Tibetan Buddhism encourages vegetarianism despite most communities being located on the Qing hai
Tibetan Plateau (Rinpoche) The Qing hai plateau is most likely the largest and highest area ever to
exist on Earth, with an average elevation of 16,400 feet (Foggin). This has led to few constructions of
transportation services, virtually causing the region to be excluded from vegetation trade.
Furthermore, lack of oxygen due to high elevation and severe permafrost demolish the prospect of any
suitable condition coming about for growing numerous crops. To cope with these circumstances,
Tibetan Buddhists strive on a vegetable and grain diet, consuming a restricted amount of meat if
natural conditions limit their main food sources (Rinpoche). In this way, they clearly demonstrate their
compassion towards animal life by holding a strong resolve to consume only non beings and to eat
meat only if of utmost necessity, regardless of limited vegetation supply. On the bases of ahimsa and
compassion, Tibetan Buddhism perpetuates the moral responsibility and spiritual respect humans
should hold towards nonhumans.
Contrary to the disheartening truth that animal agriculture and animal slaughter are inescapably
intertwined, the vegetarian diet is not a required regimen in all Buddhist schools of thought. Buddha
Gautama characterized Buddhism as a free religion, aware that forbidding meat

The Accuracy Of The Film Red Tails
Some more accurate than others, they all concern the similar themes of a mission above others, a
personal conflict, and the character development to become iconic by the end of the film. For
example, in Red Tails, its accuracy can be somewhat, when concerning itself to the controversy of
black males in the American Air Force. Surprisingly, the directors of the movie did get the accuracy of
the aircraft they acquired throughout the duration of the movie. It pinpointed the racial tension
between troops, but also showed the desegregation that occurred after the two racial groups started
journeying in more missions. Its inaccuracy comes in the fact that not that many main characters die

Jean Luc Godard s Weekend as Didactic Self-Reflexive Cinema
James Goodman 5 March 2005 Auguiste Communication Essay Jean Luc Godard s Weekend as
Didactic Self Reflexive Cinema According to Stephen Prince in Movies and Meaning: an Introduction
to Film, Screen Reality is a concept that pertains to the principles of time, space, character behavior
and audiovisual design that filmmakers systematically organize in a given film to create an ordered
world on screen in which characters may act and in which a narrative may unfold.(262) One mode of
cinematic screen reality is self reflexivity. While the other three modes of screen reality seek to sway
the audience into accepting the authenticity of the world and the story that are on screen, the self

Weekend represents the culture of political violence and social experimentation, artistic and sexual,
which was the latter half of the 1960s. This somewhat comic but depressing film of Godard s is a
satirical poem and construct of the contempt with which he obviously holds bourgeoisie society. Much
of the film expresses this through the use of symbolism and metaphor. In order to better facilitate the
process whereby the audience becomes aware of Godard s intentions and his message he introduces us
to a young Parisian married couple. Godard sets the clichéd couple, alienated and bourgeois, on a
journey for Corinne s parents country house, hoping to find them either dead or willing to sign the
will. As they persist in their journey we are given various opportunities to appreciate the absolute
complacency and ignorance of the couple (meant to be emblematic of all bourgeois). Godard tries to
peel off the hypocrisy of bourgeois society through the weekend trip of this Parisian middle class
couple. Weekend is a clear continuation of the style, and even ideology, which originated with Brecht
s work in the theater. Jean Luc Godard weaves didactic self reflexive techniques throughout the film,
in order to break the illusion that the spectator is watching a real, authentic world on screen rather than
a movie. In doing so, Godard finds the ability to share his discourse directly with the audience instead
of employing characters to do the job for

What Is A Man For All Seasons
A man for all seasons, in that short phrase one man s character and merit, are heightened to unseen
levels. The film A Man for All Seasons directed by Fred Zinnemann and written by Robert Bolt does a
phenomenal job at depicting the history of the 16th century. More specifically the quarrel between
Thomas More and King Henry VIII. The evaluation I prepared goes over movies purpose, is it biased,
historical accuracy, movie s message, actors in relation to the film, and if the movie is a by product of
its time. This movie can be looked at many different ways as the event itself was complicated.

how King Henry VIII would use his chief ministers to forward political gain and the anger that came
with them failing or disagreeing. The historical accuracy with the character of history was on point as
well. Characters such as Mr. Rich, his greed, and need to rise in politics, King Henry s charm, beauty,

Comparing Ophelia And Hamlet

Often times, a tragedy can bring two people together, especially lovers, yet, sometimes, it can drive

become mad in two totally different ways. When tragedy strikes in Hamlet, Ophelia and Hamlet deal
with it very differently. Despite the obvious tragedies that group them together, Ophelia and Hamlet
are nothing alike at all, characteristically. In fact, Ophelia is the female version of the man Hamlet

  • 2. Summary Of Art Spiegelman s Maus The book Maus, a graphic novel by Vladek Spiegelman s son, Art Spiegelman is written in the form of a graphic novel. It elaborates on Vladek s adolescent experiences as a young jew during the Holocaust. On a surface level, the photographs in Maus contributed to my understanding of the story by giving Vladek s words a visual. The images tell the story in a direct way by expressing the emotions of his father as the comic strips transition from the past to present. The format of this story certainly takes some risks. To some audiences, this format could come off as a joke, as though Spiegelman wasn t taking his father s story seriously. With a graphic novel usually used to depict fictionally, sci fi like stories, the audience might think that Art is treating his father s experiences as if they were part of a fictional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This story could possibly be negatively associated with a mocking tone. To some audiences, the way that Spiegelman depicted the victims as mice and the Germans as cats, could come off as though Spiegelman was mocking the victims with this prey and predator metaphor. The interviewer challenges Spiegelman by asking the questions about the aspects of his book that make it the most controversial. For example, Bolhafner says Harvey Pekar has commented that he feels you shouldn t have used mice for any of it. He thinks it would have had more impact if you had used people, and is critical of your using pigs for the Poles (Spiegelman, Art. Art for Art s Sake: Spiegelman Speaks on RAWS s Past, Present, and Future. Interview by J. Stephen Bolhafner. The Comics Journal #145 Oct. 1991). Here, Bolhafner brings up the fact that some audiences don t agree with Arts way of portraying the people in his book and how it could lessen the impact of his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Atheism Research Paper Atheism is defined as the belief that divine beings do not exist. Atheists often dispute that atheism is human s natural state of mind (Greywood). The prefix a , meaning without, and the root theism , meaning a belief in divine beings, consequently creates the word s definition: without belief in divine beings (Sexton). Why do some hold this view in a world that is mostly religious? Perhaps to answer such a question one should explore and venture to know it. Though first introduced in a sophisticated and educated manner in Ancient Greek schools of thought, to an atheist s point of view, atheistic thinking has existed since the first intelligent species of humanoids (Greywood). Atheists assert that humans are naturally unaware of any divine beings unless indoctrinated about subjects that correlate with tales of divinity. Throughout history, atheists transitioned from being the loathed members of society to existing peacefully in society. In Middle Aged Europe any openly, expressed disbelief in the prevalent religion of the day was met with prompt accusations of heresy. The reigning Roman Catholic Church persecuted accused heretics: a persecution that often ended at the grave ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some atheists were born into a secular family, and a life without a divine figure is all that they have ever known. Some were once very pious and active within a religious or philosophical organization, but learned more about what they were upholding and seen fault. Some feel that science solely and unequivocally explains the universe and, as a result, living organisms: finding it entirely unreasonable to believe that a never before seen figure created everything the human eye can see (Sexton). But nonetheless, despite the precise reason for lacking a belief in divine beings, all atheists unanimously agree that they lack belief in divine beings because they view them to be ... Many years ago, he helped destroy Mordor, a great and powerful realm with millions of orcs. At that time, Frodo was a ring bearer, and fought through all of Mordor s challenges, barely making it out alive. His journey was to travel to Mount Doom, and drop the Ring of Power into the mountain s lava. The ring obtained immense power, and brought turmoil to all of Middle Earth. The only way to ensure the safety of the people, was to destroy the ring for good. Frodo was successful, and saved all of the living things in the world. When Frodo arrived back to the Shire, a year later, he was at peace. Frodo had awakened one morning, and was eager to go to his living room. Frodo, Snarge, and Lacqua cried, as they had to finish off the rest of the bandits. After the second round was over, all of them quickly went over to Thorin III, hoping he would still be alive, but he was no more. Later that year, they arrived back to the Shire, Frodo had his body burn, and once it was completed, Thorin III was nothing but ash. Even though, we understand the struggle of fitting, we, as humans still persecute others for not being similar to us. All in all, the exclusion is a form of bullying. In her novel Frankenstein, Mary Shelley exemplifies this phenomena of human behavior, when she shows the maltreatment that Frankenstein s monster is given for his unattractive physical features and what he does to terminate his isolation. Victor Frankenstein engulfed in the dedication of creating a god like image of himself creates a monster. Upon its creation, the monster s entire perception of the world was around Victor Frankenstein resembling an infant perceiving its surroundings through its parents. Victor was the monster s father . With improvements being made in transportation and technology this shifted the way of life to a much faster pace, shrinking the distances between people around the world thus creating a more rapid pace of life. The emphasis on radical innovations left many people will feelings of despair, a sense of meaninglessness, and hopelessness. With the ever growing developments to society, a lack of traditional and cultural norms and beliefs in closely held faiths were strained. These concepts were much illustrated in the literature of the time. Literary figures such as T.S Eliot flawlessly depicted the perception of the troubles of the modern man in his poem The Lovesong of J. Alfred Prufrock, while also integrating the new way of looking and appreciating life will all the good and bad components, ideas brought forth by the forerunners of modernism. ... With the development of the short story, the variation between short story endings has gradually increased as time has gone on, like the difference between a final ending in Flannery O Connor s A Good Man is Hard to Find or John Cheever s The Swimmer. However, the endings of some short stories also depend on the style of how the story is written, like Amy Tan s Two Kinds, which is a part of a larger novel, and Kate Chopin s The Blind Man, which is a new branch of short fiction writing called microfiction. The ending also comes about based on the subject matter found in the story. For example, Tan is a second generation Chinese American like her character, June, in Two Kinds. Cheever lived through the Great Depression, and his family went through a similar fall from grace like his character Neddy did in The Swimmer. They say to write what you know, and these authors come to their endings through their own experiences and the type of style that they write in. Flannery O Connor was a writer on rented time. Confined to her house throughout the final days of her illness, critics theorize that she spent a good amount of time thinking about how her life was coming to a close. • 15. Samuel Beckett s Waiting For Godot Samuel Beckett was born in Ireland on April 13, 1906. Waiting for Godot was composed between 1948 and 1949 in French. The premiere was on January 5 1953 in Paris. After World War II, he wrote Waiting for Godot. In Samuel Beckett s play, Waiting for Godot, it is essential that the play is characterized by time and hopelessness. That the purpose of life is unanswerable; there is no apparent meaning to it. When first analyzing the play, there is an uncertainty if anything happens within the play or the title character s significance because of the constant repetition without achieving answers throughout the story. Waiting for Godot captures the feeling that a situation is hopelessly unfathomable. The play characterizes hopelessness with forms that symbolize humanity and its behavior with all the characters. It emphasizes that because a human s life is dependant on chance and that time is meaningless, reassuring that a human s life is meaningless. The reality of this makes humans ambiguous, looking for outside forces, which may or may not be imaginary, for direction. Just as Vladimir and Estragon cling onto Godot, without knowing whether or not he or it is real. On of the play s assumptions is that chance is the main factor behind a human s existence. Again, leading that human life is determined by and only chance. Beckett beckons on the path of religious symbolism. Hints of Christianity are influenced in this play throughout. Society’s Greatest Tragedy Essay In 415 B.C.E., the Greek playwright Euripides created The Trojan Women, a play that is arguably one of the best studies of the horrific aspects of war ever written. In her analysis of the play, Professor C.A.E. Luschnig maintains, [Euripides] has made the Trojan War stand for every war... For war is society s great tragedy: victory is an illusion (8). While the negative elements of war portrayed by Euripides can be found in all wars and even war s victors must suffer their defeats, there is an even greater tragedy to society than war itself. Next, the Greek herald, Talthybus, informs the dethroned Queen Hecuba of her fate and that of her daughter, Kassandra. Hecuba grieves her lot, but her daughter has been gifted with the ability to see the future and knows of the ultimate punishment of the Greek conquerors. Andromache arrives with her young son, Astyanax, only to learn that she is to become a Greek concubine and that her son is to be killed to prevent him from one day avenging his father s death and possibly rebuilding Troy. Next, Helen arrives and learns that she has been awarded by the Greek army to her former husband, Melelaos, who plans to have her killed. Helen attempts to defend herself, but finds no sympathy from either the Greeks or the Trojans. The play ends with the burial of Astyanax, the Trojan women being dragged to the Greek ships, and the final destruction of the city. Because of Kassandra s prophecies, the audience knows that the Greek victors will, in the end, have no victory. C.A.E. • 19. The Reflection As A Tool For Learning From Experience John Dewey considered as the pioneer scholar who proposed the reflection as a tool for learning from experience. According to Dewey (1933), reflection is associated with a thinking about the experience or event which contains five steps in order to make sense of it and internalise meanings. These steps are; problem, suggestions, reasoning, hypothesis and testing. In the first step of problem , he proposes that we need to see big picture of the event which includes the actions, conditions and contextual factors of the event. As our actions operated in open system (social world), thinking about small entities may distract us to identify the real cause of concern. In this way, there is high probability to recognise and understand the perplexity of the event, resulting in more comprehensive action plan to tackle the situation. Schön (1983) argues similar notion by referring discomfort/ surprises in actions, but he did that propose any strategy to figure out the actual problem or issue in action. There is a consensus in literature that reflective thinking is triggered by doubtful situations, discomfort (Dewey, 1933), surprise (Schön, 1983), inner discomfort (Boyed and Fales, 1983), uncomfortable feelings (Atkins and Murphy, 1993), critical point (Barnett, 1997) and issue in action (John, 2005; Boud, 2010) and many more. The Martin Bombers had new some never before seen features such as closed cockpits, rotating guns and retractable landing gear as well as much more. The British designers put protection first, mobility second, and firepower third. This led to some failures. • 26. The Formula Of Magnesium Oxide The purpose of this experiment is to verify the formula of magnesium oxide based on the masses of magnesium and the product (MgO). We verify the formula firstly by calculating the empirical formula of magnesium oxide and then calculating creating the magnesium oxide itself a magnesium ribbon is combined with oxygen in the presence of air through combustion and this forms MgO. The empirical formula of a compound is the simplest method of expressing a chemical formula in whole number ratios of the constituent atoms that are consistent with masses measured in the experiment; whereas the molecular formula expresses the chemical formula using the actual number of atoms. For example, the molecular formula of anthracene is C14H10 while the empirical formula is C7H5. Because of the Law of Definite Proportions, when the elements of magnesium and oxygen chemically react to form a compound they do so in definite proportions by weight. The Law of Definite Proportions states that if elements form a compound, they must combine in definite proportions by weight. This means that all atoms form chemical compounds by combining in whole number ratios. Take for example the elements of hydrogen and oxygen: they can combine to make water (H2O) but in other conditions can combine to make hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). In both examples the ratio stays the same. Likewise, in this experiment the elements magnesium and oxygen combine in whole number ratios. We have hypothesized that magnesium and oxygen ... After they migrated to Medina, it was like a sanctuary, they were greeted open heartedly, and many were actually waiting for them to arrive. After they settled down, the verses of ramadan were revealed. Many people may wonder why are muslims so excited about a month in which they abstain from food? Who would look forward to something like that? In essence there is much more to ramadan than just abstaining from food though out the day, it is also about learning self discipline, controlling your temper, and building your character. It teaches a great amount of patience. Our prophet once said, Whoever does not give up lying and evil action, God is not in need of his hunger. Not only is it about purifying your body, also your mind and soul. It is also a chance to increase your good deeds such as giving charity to the poor, and mending family relationships. As we go through the day in hunger and thirst, we experience the feeling of the poor who cannot afford a meal, which would result ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Vegetarianism In Tibetan Buddhism Tibetan Buddhism, a Mahayana sect, is a unique exception in strictly following the vegetarian diet, as Tibetan Buddhism encourages vegetarianism despite most communities being located on the Qing hai Tibetan Plateau (Rinpoche) The Qing hai plateau is most likely the largest and highest area ever to exist on Earth, with an average elevation of 16,400 feet (Foggin). This has led to few constructions of transportation services, virtually causing the region to be excluded from vegetation trade. Furthermore, lack of oxygen due to high elevation and severe permafrost demolish the prospect of any suitable condition coming about for growing numerous crops. To cope with these circumstances, Tibetan Buddhists strive on a vegetable and grain diet, consuming a restricted amount of meat if natural conditions limit their main food sources (Rinpoche). In this way, they clearly demonstrate their compassion towards animal life by holding a strong resolve to consume only non beings and to eat meat only if of utmost necessity, regardless of limited vegetation supply. On the bases of ahimsa and compassion, Tibetan Buddhism perpetuates the moral responsibility and spiritual respect humans should hold towards nonhumans. Contrary to the disheartening truth that animal agriculture and animal slaughter are inescapably intertwined, the vegetarian diet is not a required regimen in all Buddhist schools of thought. Buddha Gautama characterized Buddhism as a free religion, aware that forbidding meat ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Accuracy Of The Film Red Tails Some more accurate than others, they all concern the similar themes of a mission above others, a personal conflict, and the character development to become iconic by the end of the film. For example, in Red Tails, its accuracy can be somewhat, when concerning itself to the controversy of black males in the American Air Force. Surprisingly, the directors of the movie did get the accuracy of the aircraft they acquired throughout the duration of the movie. It pinpointed the racial tension between troops, but also showed the desegregation that occurred after the two racial groups started journeying in more missions. Its inaccuracy comes in the fact that not that many main characters die besides two, but it s understandable that only 50 some lives were lost in the traps. ... • 36. Jean Luc Godard s Weekend as Didactic Self-Reflexive Cinema James Goodman 5 March 2005 Auguiste Communication Essay Jean Luc Godard s Weekend as Didactic Self Reflexive Cinema According to Stephen Prince in Movies and Meaning: an Introduction to Film, Screen Reality is a concept that pertains to the principles of time, space, character behavior and audiovisual design that filmmakers systematically organize in a given film to create an ordered world on screen in which characters may act and in which a narrative may unfold.(262) One mode of cinematic screen reality is self reflexivity. While the other three modes of screen reality seek to sway the audience into accepting the authenticity of the world and the story that are on screen, the self reflexive style deliberately attempts to tear down ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Weekend represents the culture of political violence and social experimentation, artistic and sexual, which was the latter half of the 1960s. This somewhat comic but depressing film of Godard s is a satirical poem and construct of the contempt with which he obviously holds bourgeoisie society. Much of the film expresses this through the use of symbolism and metaphor. In order to better facilitate the process whereby the audience becomes aware of Godard s intentions and his message he introduces us to a young Parisian married couple. Godard sets the clichéd couple, alienated and bourgeois, on a journey for Corinne s parents country house, hoping to find them either dead or willing to sign the will. As they persist in their journey we are given various opportunities to appreciate the absolute complacency and ignorance of the couple (meant to be emblematic of all bourgeois). Godard tries to peel off the hypocrisy of bourgeois society through the weekend trip of this Parisian middle class couple. Weekend is a clear continuation of the style, and even ideology, which originated with Brecht s work in the theater. Jean Luc Godard weaves didactic self reflexive techniques throughout the film, in order to break the illusion that the spectator is watching a real, authentic world on screen rather than a movie. In doing so, Godard finds the ability to share his discourse directly with the audience instead of employing characters to do the job for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The film A Man for All Seasons directed by Fred Zinnemann and written by Robert Bolt does a phenomenal job at depicting the history of the 16th century. More specifically the quarrel between Thomas More and King Henry VIII. The evaluation I prepared goes over movies purpose, is it biased, historical accuracy, movie s message, actors in relation to the film, and if the movie is a by product of its time. The movie may have left or altered some parts here and there, but the overall movie was accurate. From the way, they captured how King Henry VIII would use his chief ministers to forward political gain and the anger that came with them failing or disagreeing. The historical accuracy with the character of history was on point as well. Characters such as Mr. Rich, his greed, and need to rise in politics, King Henry s charm, beauty, and temper, and Thomas More s morality and need to stay true to one s self. Both of them can become mad, one can become mad and not the other, or they can become mad in two totally different ways. When tragedy strikes in Hamlet, Ophelia and Hamlet deal with it very differently. Despite the obvious tragedies that group them together, Ophelia and Hamlet are nothing alike at all, characteristically. In fact, Ophelia is the female version of the man Hamlet should become because she is active and determined, transgressing her pre determined role as a naïve woman.
