Genetic Determinism
Genetic Determinism
On Christmas Day in the year 2001, I gave birth to a healthy baby boy. When I looked into the brand
new face of my son I saw a beautiful mystery. I wondered what kind of man my boy would grow to be
and what his life would be like. There are those in the scientific community who would argue that my
son s path was already determined at the moment of his birth, that his fate could be deciphered from
his genetic make up. As a nurturing mother I know better. At two years old my son has developed a
more diverse vocabulary than many children twice or even three times his age. He recognizes many
written words and reads them aloud. He is able to spell his name. He can distinguish a square from a
rectangle and an octagon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many scholars believe that the new science of behavioral genetics has intellectual roots in the old
ideas of Eugenics (Steen 33). Eugenics disguised a political agenda as a scientific one in an attempt to
endow discrimination with credibility. Supporters of genetic determinism theories do the same.
Richard Herrnstein and Charles Murray defend the theory of genetic determinism in The Bell Curve:
Intelligence and Class Structure in American Life, which was published ten years ago. Their book is
one of the most widely referenced works regarding the theory that intelligence is inherited. The
authors claim that the social order mirrors natural selection, wherein the genetically superior or more
intelligent human rises to the top. Of course this means that the lower class, predominantly blacks, are
represented as genetically inferior (xxi xxiii). The authors claim that ethnic differences in cognitive
ability are neither surprising nor in doubt (269) and attribute the inequality of life among Americans to
inherent differences between races in intelligence (127). Their argument rests on the assertion that
intelligence is both inheritable and immutable and is supported by intelligence test scores. The text is
full of contradictions and a close analysis proves it to be lacking in evidence and smacking of social
myth. Their theories are developed using speculation and are tainted by bias. There is no science
involved.

Analysis Of Toni Morrison s Song Of Solomon
In Toni Morrison s award winning novel Song of Solomon, she fills the novel with deep symbolism.
Macon Dead III, nicknamed Milkman, is a symbolic character throughout the novel. Not only is he as
a character symbolic, but his name is as well. Milkman s aunt, Pilate, has a significant and symbolic
role in the novel. To her father, she represents the child who killed her own mother and took away his
wife. In the Bible, Pontius Pilate is the Roman who is responsible for the execution of Jesus. With that
information, one can say that the name Pilate seems to coincide with her father, Macon Dead s,
opinion on what Pilate represents. What s ironic is that Pilate is a good person and is murdered in the
end, just as Jesus was by Pontius Pilate. Guitar, Milkman s best friend, is another significant character
in the novel who portrays deep symbolism. Guitar is named after something that he wanted very badly
as a child. I saw it when my mother took me downtown with her. I was just a baby. It was one of those
things where you guess how many beans in the glass jar and you win a guitar. I cried for it, they said.
And always asked about it. This unreachable goal describes his character throughout the novel. He is
never able to overcome the obstacles that stand

The Spirit World Essay
This weeks reading continues with the theme of the of the Spirit world, with a specific interest in
angels and demons. The text begins by stating quite plainly that one cannot deny the existence of
angels under the authority of scripture. Yet, within this topic there seems to be an air of mysticism and
pleasantries around these beings. In other words, when discussing this topic it is rather important to
get away from the thought that we have an angel on one shoulder and a demon on the other. However,
this is about as far an understanding as a majority of common culture has allowed. All the while,
scripture is plain, angels do indeed exist throughout the whole new and old testament, from Genesis to
Revelation. The text then transitions from the existence of angelic beings to the biblical description of
them. The first characteristic that Ryrie mentions is the state of Angels as created beings as apposed to
beings that create. This simply means that angels were created by God and they ... Show more content

Like the angels he shares in the ability to think, feel emotion, and have a personal will. That being said
his personality is not described with the holiness of the angels. Coupling the existence of his
personality with Jesus encounter with him in the desert gives further insight to his personhood. Simply
put, Satan is not just a personification of evil because Jesus uses personal pronouns when speaking to
and about him. The text then mentions something that I find rather comforting. Satan is a created
being, he is not creator. He is not on an equal platform in power as God. This means that he possesses
limitations to his power. For God alone holds the power of omnipotence, omnipresence, and
omniscience. Though he is a mighty being he is still not as powerful as his creator. Satan is actually
named as the chief arch angel in Ezekiel 28:12. This means he has held a great deal of power, which is
why he is currently known as the prince of the

Triton s Modern Influences
Have you ever watched the little mermaid or Spongebob and wondered, Who is Triton? Most likely,
you have. These two children s cartoons are both perfect examples of Triton s modern influence. I m
Nicholas Torres and I will be speaking about Triton. Born to Poseidon and Amphitrite, Triton was
always in some way or another like his father. Triton carries a trident and uses a conch shell as a
trumpet. Not much is known about Triton s childhood. One of the few things that is known about
Triton is that he lived in a golden palace under water with his parents and that he really enjoyed
traveling to the coast of Libya, where he met his lover, Libya. He had many siblings. Triton had about
50 half siblings. Some of them are Theseus, Orion, Belus,

The fruit peel of Lansium domesticum, var. pubescens ( thicker than that one of the sweeter var.

burned and produces an aromatic, white smoke ( white from the sap and some remaining water ). Did
you do a science project yourself, and do you have to write an abstract, or do you just have to describe
what it is? I could not quite understand this.... but I can give you a general description of what it is. An
abstract is basically a summary of a research project. It will usually describe four different things: 1.
the objective (background) of the study, 2. the methods used, 3. the results found, and 4. the
conclusions. It is usually very short (one paragraph), so it needs to describe all these things in a very
compact, yet clear way. Abstracts are usually a part of a scientific publication, usually printed at the
beginning. When researchers search in databases for relevant publications, they will search for
keywords, and then a number of publications will pop up (similar to a Google search). In their result
screen, they will see the abstract and read them to decide if they want to read the whole paper or not.
So the abstract needs to be attractive and clear. The journal that you want to publish your research in,

Cyber Bullying Is Not A New Phenomenon
Producing Danger
Bullying in school is not a new phenomenon; it is as old as the education system. In texts as ancient as
the Bible examples are explicit and evident. Throughout the ages bullying has been a tragic and
catastrophic element that seems inevitable as it affects the lives of its victims. The fundamental
purpose of a school is to educate and coach children in their emotional, cognitive, civic, vocational,
and social development. On the contrary, however, schools are generating cutthroat, cruel, and isolated
environments as oppressive social hierarchies are formed to comply with stereotypical gender traits.
From ancient times to present day, bullying has always taken place. It may be delivered physically,
verbally, and now even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Story of Joseph, in the book of Genesis, struck me as a primeval example of bullying dating back
to 5th century BCE. Joseph was the 11th son of Jacob and was born to Jacob s favorite wife, Rachel.
At the age of 17, Joseph was a shepherd alongside 11 of his brothers. His father, Jacob, displayed
much more love to Joseph than any of his other sons, so much so that he gave Joseph a one of a kind
coat of many colors (Genesis 37:23). The other brothers were jealous of Joseph and distained him.
Joseph only further provoked this hatred when he told his brothers about two of his dreams he had of
the family. The brother s tolerance only lasted so long. When the brothers saw him alone in a field,
they plotted to kill him. When Joseph approached, they tore off his special coat and threw him into a
pit. His brother, Judah, came up with the idea to sell Joseph into slavery. The brothers then dipped his
coat into goat blood brought it back to Jacob. Jacob recognized the coat and concluded that a beast had
killed his son, while in reality; he was in a caravan heading towards Egypt.
There is no denying the raised awareness about bullying today than in past years. Although bullying
has always existed, only recently has it been systematically measured. It was only in the 1980 s when
Dan Olweus conducted initial studies on Norwegian and Swedish students. This account of

individual wants their car to stay in the shop for a long time. It s not easy to determine which auto

Betty Friedan s The Feminine Mystique
In The Feminine Mystique, Betty Friedan presents several arguments that dealt with the issues of
personal engagement and equality that women of the time faced, calling it, the problem that has no
name. Friedan describes an ideal that middle class women of the 1960s were held to. She highlights
that women were chained to kitchens and their spouses and children, while their dreams of careers and
college degrees were suppressed. These women had goals and dreams, and they wanted more, but as
Friedan describes, it was nearly impossible to break through the feminine mystique. Friedan argues
that the stereotypes, occupations, and marriages that the women held caused the feminine mystique,
however, she misses important structural issues, such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These women in offices and labs had to put forth tremendous effort to achieve their career goals, but
were left out of Betty Friedan s arguments, quite possibly so that competitors could not merely claim
that housewives were just lazy and taking the easy way out. Friedan also leaves out that after World
War II, jobs were actually available to anyone who wanted one, women included. The labor force was
no longer restricted to just men. If a woman wanted a job, she was capable of getting one. At the time
The Feminine Mystique was published, two thirds of the women in America were actually already part
of the working class. What it really came down to was how badly these middle to upper class women
wanted to work outside of their homes. By cutting out most of the working female population, Friedan
neglected to consider the majority of the women who had been able to find a balance between work

Essay On Ultra Wide Monitor
5. Ultrawide VS 4k Montior Which one should I buy?
Well, they are both suitable for very different kind of users. Both of them offer a lot of screen space
for productivity. But an ultrawide is more recommended for multi tasking.
Sure, you can work with multiple applications on a 4K display, but it would be hard to read unless you
scale it. In short, more pixels doesn t mean you ll achieve higher productivity.
As for gamers, you need to know that between an ultra wide monitor or a 4K, the latter demands a
more powerful computer in order to fully enjoy the content.
With an ultrawide monitor, you won t need to upgrade your rig to enjoy the smooth gameplay
experience. Whereas with a 4K monitor; video games will look more stunning, but ... Show more

As for gamers, multiple monitors can be annoying for long gaming sessions since you ll have to
constantly move your head to enjoy everything that s happening on two or three different screens.
On the other hand, ultrawide monitor won t cause this kind of problem as a single curved screen offers
enough viewing space without the hassle of maneuvering your head all the time.
Also, unlike a multi monitor setup, ultrawide monitors will provide an immersive experience on a
giant single screen and that too without any bezels.
Moreover, you ll also get lots of features in an ultrawide gaming monitor like G Sync, Free Sync,
Gameplus Technology, Flicker Free technology, and gaming mode in the adjustment settings.
Combined, all of these features will give you a more enjoyable gaming experience than a dual or triple
monitor setup.
In short, I think buying an ultrawide unit is better than a multiple monitor setup for productivity and
gaming.
Even if it costs a bit more, the advantages of an ultrawide monitor give it an edge over a dual or triple
monitor setup.
Have you noticed that everyone is demanding for features like big screen, higher resolution, low
refresh rate and amazing picture quality in an affordable Monitor?
Up until now, 1080p IPS widescreens were the standard monitor for regular usage and gaming. But
today, you can find a

Comparing The Celebrated Jumping Frog Of The Calaveras...
Mark Twain the writer of The Celebrated Jumping Frog of the Calaveras Country and Charles Dickens
the author of The Baron of Grogzwig , both presented disjunction as a literary technique to evoke a
numerous response from their readers. Disjunction was seen in Mark Twain s story during the part
when the story started in a way the narrator was in search for Leonidas Smiley and ended up getting
information about Jim Smiley. Just as the Baron who wanted to die but ended up realizing that it was
not worth it. For me, this literary technique caught the attention of most readers. In the story of The
Celebrated Jumping Frog of the Calaveras Country, symbolism, personification and flashback may be
seen too. Mark Twain, used the real politicians and symbolized them using animals that would fit their
own characteristics. Personification can be seen when the story of Jim Smiley was told, one perfect
example was when the frog Daniel Webster was educated and the literary technique that was used so
much was flashback when Jim Smiley s story was told. The Celebrated Jumping Frog of the Calaveras
Country by Mark Twain was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Baron of Grogzwig, simply tells a story about a baron who was once happy but not yet contented.
He wanted to marry and at some point got what he wanted, he had 13 kids but his wife removed the
things that he used to love. He became sad and wanted to die but then a genius somehow made him
realize that he was not ready to die yet. So, for me, the definition of an English comic bases literary
style is having everything connected, there is something behind the text, it is easy to understand, and
has lesson in the end. The story was clear from the very start until the end making it a nice story too.
The English comic based literary style was also part of the story in which the humor of the character

Symbols Found in Nathaniel Hawthrone´s The Scarlet Letter
It is a curious subject of observation and inquiry, whether hatred and love be not the same thing at
bottom. Each, in its utmost development, supposes a high degree of intimacy and heart knowledge;
each renders one individual dependent for the food of his affections and spiritual life upon another;
each leaves the passionate lover, or the no less passionate hater, forlorn and desolate by the withdrawal
of his object. (page 412 chapter 24) The reoccurring deteriorating scaffold Pearl Prynne, and the
rosebush and ugly weeds are reoccurring symbols in Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter.
Hawthorne s characters symbolically transform the scaffold from beginning to end of the novel. Next
the three scaffold scenes physically deteriorate with an underlying symbolic tone. Finally, the
symbolic use of the scaffold throughout The Scarlet Letter leaves a lasting impression of its readers.
The scaffold in the scarlet letter is a structure in the middle of Boston during the 17th century that was
used as a tool of torture used against people who have committed sins. They stood upon it for hours at
a time in front of the public being judged for what they did wrong.
Pearl kissed his lips. A spell was broken. The great scene of grief, in which the wild infant bore a
party, had developed all her sympathies; and as her tears fell upon her father s cheek, they were the
pledge that she would grow up amid human joy and sorrow, nor forever do battle with the world, but

In the article, the author claims that there is little to no evidence that energy drinks have any benefits. I
think the author successfully supports his claim. Energy drinks have little scientific support, rely on

They have a couple things that really stand out, one being politics and another I noticed being the act
of defying a higher power. Creon defied a seer in his story. Creon goes and decides to defy Tiresias, a
very old seer. Tiresias is a seer which means they can predict the future and warn people about what is
to come for them if it is bad. Now Tiresias has been in this game for a long time, probably even dating
back farther than Creon s parents. Tiresias definitely knows what he s doing. Tiresias tells Creon of a
sight he had about Creon. It is very bad for Creon it is a sight telling of his whole family dying but
Creon doesn t want to believe it. Creon disgraces Tiresias and is very rude to him. Creon defies
Tiresias and gets his whole family killed in the process. Defying a higher power did not go so well for
Creon but for David it went pretty well. David defied the Adjustment Bureau. The Adjustment Bureau
is a Bureau of immortal people that have a plan for everyone s lives and are supposed to keep them on
track so they basically make your entire life. Although many things could happen to take your life off
track, but they re there to make sure your life stays on track. The Adjustment Bureau tells David not to

Cultural Icon: Shamrock
The Shamrock is recognized around the world today as a cultural icon of the Irish. In the past it was
used as a symbol of Ireland s resistance to invasion and foreign control, but today it represents good
luck and has been widely embraced as major national symbol of Ireland and the Irish Culture.
While trying to convert the Irish into Christians, St. Patrick used the shamrock in the 5th century as a

leaves of a shamrock are also said to stand for faith, hope, and love, while a fourth leaf represents

Stonehenge was produced by a culture that left no written records. Many aspects of Stonehenge, such

Malrotation Of The Gut Case Study
Volvulus (Malrotation of the Gut)
A malrotation of the gut occurs when something goes wrong during development the small intestine
(gut or small bowel). When this occurs, the small intestine is not fixed in the abdomen (belly). The
intestines are held by just their blood supply. When the intestines become twisted, because they are not
fastened down, it cuts off their blood supply. It is much like a hose getting kinked. This loss of blood
supply leads to damage to the gut. This condition is also called volvulus.
SYMPTOMS
Most often this abnormality shows up during the first month of life. Sometimes it may not produce
symptoms until adulthood. Usually the abdomen becomes distended and there is vomiting of bilious
material. This is greenish or bile stained vomitus. There is usually cramping and intermittent
abdominal pain.

TREATMENT
A volvulus is a surgical emergency. This must be corrected immediately to preserve life.
The surgeon will untwist the intestine if necessary.
The surgeon will cut through the abnormal bands holding the organs in the wrong places.
The appendix will be removed. If the child were to have an appendicitis the diagnosis would be
dangerously delayed because of the abnormal position.

in life. Make A Wish grew so rapidly because of this, that they were making tens of thousands of
wishes come true each year.
Now that we have covered the full history of Make A Wish let s move on to general facts of Make A
Wish. To be eligible you must be referred by someone treating the child, a parent or legal guardian, or
the children themselves if they are of age. The average cost of granting a wish is $10,130. Make A
Wish pays for the full experience including costs of travel because they believe that the parents have
enough financial worries. The way Make A Wish makes money for all of this is from mainly donations
and foundation grants. This means that normal every day citizens are funding these wishes and could
be giving a dying kid their last wish which I think is special. There have been numerous celebrities
and stars that participate in Make A Wish. John cena holds the record for Make A Wish at over 500

think it should be ban because it can cause the child become a serious Impulse buyer. Also i do think
that advertisment to children is wrong because it does show children that happiness can be bought.

Objective Agrifarm Company s main objective is to determine the proper distribution, within a
distribution network, to minimize the total shipping costs to deliver carloads from origin to the hubs
and finally to the customers. To do so, we are given two distribution cost tables that explain the
processing center shipping costs, meaning origin to hubs, and the customer shipping costs, meaning
from hubs to the final customer. Therefore, the cost to ship rail cars of grain from the origins and hubs
will determine the proper distribution of rail cars from origin to destination. Solution Our optimal
solution (total shipping cost) to meet all ten constraints is $513,000. Origin Muncie will not ship to

Web Testing Essay
Web testing is a credible method to evaluate the best online promotional and marketing strategies for a
business. This tool can be used to test a wide range of criteria from website copy to sales emails to
search ads.
Well planned web testing produces concrete evidence of a well planned marketing strategy.
Continuously testing different hypotheses will not only yield good results for conversion rates, but
will also give us a better understanding of our customers.
Web Testing
In marketing, website testing is used to study how users react to various changes made on website
pages. Tests are meant to show whether or not conversion rate and revenue can be improved and how
to go about it. Web testing equals careful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Amazon boosted its profits by moving credit card offers from its home page to the
shopping cart page. Such examples that utilized web testing techniques clearly espouses the idea that
tiny changes could have a big impact. In a managerial level, experiments can help managers to
optimize investment based on the potential improvement suggested by these tests. For instance,
experiments in the Microsoft Company on its Bing search engine showed that every 100 millisecond
difference in performance had a 0.6% impact on revenue. With Bing s yearly revenue surpassing $3
billion, a 100 millisecond speedup is worth $18 million in annual incremental revenue. Results
advocate that investing on a project to improve the Bing s response time can generate billions of
dollars for the company. (Kohavi Thomke, 2017)
A/B testing is extremely goal oriented. Before launching an A/B test, we must first decide on the
outcome we hope to achieve. The goal might sound something like this:
Increase the number of free trial signups
More clicks on a paid advertisement
Increase open rates on a welcome email

forming a hypothesis can be a bit tricky. For example, hypothesizing that switching to a different Call

A Paper On The Genus Hominins Essay
This is going to be a paper on the genus Hominins. Hominins are early human ancestors the first being
Sahelanthropus Tchadensis and ends with Homo Sapiens. A specie is a group of similar animals, or
plants and in our case homo, paranthropus and australopithecus that can interbreed between each other
and have a direct connection in lineage.A genus is a grouping of alike and related species that all share
in many traits. It is an overview of species that are different enough to be put in one group but similar
to be put under an umbrella term. In this paper it will take about the later half of the hominin genus,
from Homo rudolfensis to Homo sapiens. We will be taking a look into how they are connected if they
are, why I did not connect others and the culture behind it all.
Homo rudolfensis was found in 1986 by V.P. Alexeev . 2.4 1.8 Million years ago. Rudolfensis maybe
one of the first Homo Species and can maybe be traced back to kenyanthropus platyops. Many
believed at first glance Homo erectus was close to Homo habilis because they shared many of the
same features, were found near each other and dated to around the same time to 2.4 to 1.8 million
years ago for habilis 2.3 to 1.5 million years ago for rudolfensis. Both are put under scrutiny because
many believe that due to the case of them having longer faces and bigger molars that they are from
Australopithecus and should be placed with them.Making them an australopithecus would mean that it

Crime And Fear Of Crime
When it comes to issues of crime and criminals, there are numerous potential influences that can shape
an individual s perceptions. Additionally, a major factor of perceptions of crime is the underlying
emotional reactions to crime and criminal issues. These emotions about crime are vary from person to
person but fear of crime tends to be regarded as the most influential response, as represented by the
vast research conducted on the topic of fear of crime and its effects. In this paper, three articles that
relate to perceptions about crime and the emotional reactions people have to crime and criminal issues
will be examined. The first article, Emotions about Crime and Attitudes to Punishment, examines the
topic of fear of crime by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The dependent variables in this study were punitive attitudes of the respondents and the emotional
reactions to crime, each of which were measured by asking respondents a series of questions relating
to the variable on a ten point scale. To isolate the impacts of the dependent variables within the study,
Hartnegel and Templeton included the measurements of age, gender, education, and household income
as control variables. Finally, the independent variables in the study were the self report of
victimization, economic insecurity, political conservation, and internal attribution style, each
measured by asking respondents to agree or disagree to various questions about each subject. From the
data garnered through the survey, Hartnagel and Templeton concluded that respondents that reported
more anger about crime than fear or worry were also likely to have a higher score in punitive attitudes.
In accordance with their hypothesis, the results showed that anger about crime was more impactful on
punitive attitudes than fear of crime. In response to this finding, Hartnagel and Templeton (2012)
argued that the strength of the anger about crime variable adds weight to the claims of those who
regard anger as the emotion most associated with issues of crime and justice (p. 467). In

The Rhetor Of St. Augustine Of Hippo
This project is predicated on the biblical rationale based on the passage which moves the church to go
and make disciples found in Matthew 28:18 20. This evangelism motif is found throughout the New
Testament: And he said to them, Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation
(Mark 16:15), But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be
my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth (Acts 1:8), And he
gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers (Ephesians 4:11); in fact
one could argue it is the thesis of the New Testament. The invention of Social Media provides
churches with a methodology to do evangelism differently and perhaps more effectively. Furthermore,
the internet provides the church access to a new mission ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Richard Enos and Roger Thompson posits in the book The Rhetoric of St. Augustine of Hippo,
The basic issue was whether the Church should adopt in toto the contemporary culture which Rome
had taken over from Greece. The fate of rhetoric, as a part of the Greco Roman culture, was involved
not only in the debate over the larger issue, but in more limited controversies about its own merits.
Indeed, the contrast between Verbum (Word of God) and verbum (word of man) was stressed from the
very beginnings of the Church, long before the broader cultural issue was joined.
Augustine is warning churches today that use social media to make sure the rhetoric is consistent with
scripture and there is no compromise. While there are certain words that are germane to social media,
the rhetoric must remain couched in scripture and not just modern day cyber language. Social media is
an innovative tool which can be used to share the gospel.

Using A Part Of Speech Tagger
The tags used within the proposed patterns do not require the use of a part of speech tagger; in fact,
each tag has a list of finite possible values that is dialect dependent. So while the presented patterns
themselves, are mostly dialect independent, the range of possible values from which tags in a pattern
can be derived, depends on the dialect that is being targeted. Our work and experiments have focused
on Egyptian Arabic; and more specifically, the Cairene dialect.
In the first phase, the extraction patterns are applied on a large corpus of text obtained from twitter to
yield a set of subjective terms. In the second phase, the extracted terms, are assigned polarity based on
the normalized point wise mutual information score between them and positive and negative terms
derived from an existing polarity lexicon. Details of the process are presented in the following
subsections.
4.1 Extraction patterns
Our algorithm is working on finding the sentiment analysis in colloquial Arabic and classifying

The Narrative Techniques Used by Hitchcock in Rear Window...
The Narrative Techniques Used by Hitchcock in Rear Window
L.B. Jeffries is a high class magazine photographer for what seems to be a worldwide publication. In
Alfred Hitchcock s Rear Window , he is a temporarily wheelchair bound man and his voyeuristic side
appears later on in the film.
Rear Window depicts a 20th century New York in which fraudsters, murderers and salesmen all live
alongside each other. The story describes a man who broke his leg during a photography assignment.
He is, for the time being, stuck in a wheelchair with nothing to do but look at the neighbours through
his Rear Window . He hasn t seen the light of day since seven weeks ago.
Rear Window is one of Alfred ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This also shows that it is the start of the story. The window fills the whole frame of the shot. This is a
good way of setting the scene for the viewers. Old style joyous jazz music is played at the start a good
way of portraying happy times. The opening scene in Rear Window has no dialogue, leaving even
more of the viewers in a pool of anticipation. The scene highlights the fact that every single thing in
the film will be seen through that particular window.
Alfred Hitchcock s Rear Window is a great example of first rate camerawork. The camera is used as
the narrator and probably plays the biggest role within the film. At the start of the film, the camera is
used to pan around every single apartment within the inner city New York apartment block to
introduce the characters. Although the characters do not speak, they still play a major role in the film.
Alfred Hitchcock puts the viewers in the position of L.B Jeffries, making us all voyeurs. The camera is
used to tell the story, as there is very little dialogue in the film. Throughout nearly all of the film, only
one shot is used to tell the story, there are very few cuts. By doing it this way, Hitchcock is showing us
exactly what the character is seeing.
The cast of Rear Window includes Jimmy Stewart, the lovely Grace Kelly, Thelma Ritter, and

Response To Intervention Essay
RTI, is an acronym that has become commonly used in education after No Child Left Behind was
implemented, but what does that acronym mean? Brown Chidsey and Steege quoted Dave Tilly, a
school psychologist, as saying that RTI actually means really terrific instruction! RTI is defined
differently in different states. Some would argue it is Response to Intervention, while others say that it
means Response to Instruction. Brown Chidsey and Steege state that whether you say intervention or
instruction, it does not matter; the importance is that teachers use scientific based teaching that
responds to students learning.

According to the National Center on RTI website, the first step a district needs to take to begin RTI is
to access the needs of the district and gather information on RTI. If RTI meets the needs of the district,
then an action plan should be developed. The district should form a leadership team that consists of an
administrator, general education teacher, special education teacher, and school psychologist. Next, a
universal screener should be adopted. This screener, for example, DIBELS, should be administered
three times a year. Also, professional development should be planned to assist with the understanding
of how RTI works and how the data will drive instruction.
According to the ESU10 RTI website, RTI is an educational service delivery system designed to
provide effective instruction for all students using a comprehensive and preventive problem solving
approach. RTI is a three tiered method of instructional delivery to meet the needs of most students.
The three tiers consist of the core, targeted, and intensive. The tiers represent instructional supports.
Tier one is the utilization of a researched based core instruction program. The district should
implement a universal screener to check for students learning. The goal is for districts to achieve at
least eighty percent of students meeting benchmark. If the student does not meet benchmark, then the

Like Judaism, Christianity teaches that God endowed human life with intrinsic value. From the first
century A.D. to the twentieth century, virtually all Christians condemned suicide as a means of
escaping the suffering that afflicts human beings. This accounted for the uniformity of opinion
throughout Christendom about the virtues of extending human life and enduring suffering when death
approached as an essential part of God s providential plan for each and every individual.
Once Christianity became more widespread, it is easy to see that the trend moved towards saving each
and every person s life, even to the detriment to the quality of life experienced before death. Early
Christians built hospitals and cared for the sick, while many monks became Hippocratic physicians
and continued the Hippocratic tradition through the Dark Ages (Reville 2010). Largely driven by
Christian ideals, medicine and nursing spread throughout the world, and remained under this
Hippocratic Christian consensus until the 1950 s (Reville 2010). In fact America began to get its first
taste of a shifting public opinion on euthanasia in 1915 when a doctor by the name of Harry J.
Haiselden allowed a severely deformed baby to succumb to death rather than perform surgery

Dna And Sequence Of Dna Essay
DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) is a self replicating nucleic acid that carries the genetic information in
cells in a double helix structure. The 2 stranded helix is composed of 4 nucleotides, Adenine (A),
Thymine (T), Guanine (G), and Cytosine (C). The base pairs only form between A and T connected by
2 Hydrogen bonds and G and C connected by 3 hydrogen bonds. Foremost DNA wrapping comes
about as DNA wraps around protein called histones. These combined loops of DNA and protein are
called nucleosomes and the nucleosomes are packaged into a thread called chromatin. Chromosomes
are made up of packaged chromatin and can be seen in the nucleus of dividing cells and form around
DNA replication. Furthermore, DNA replication begins with 2 DNA strands being separated by the
helicase enzyme. Single stranded DNA binding proteins attach to these strands to keep them from re
connecting. 1 DNA strand begins to encode called the leading strand, which Forms from 5 to 3 end
using DNA polymerase 3 the primary polymerase. The other strand is referred to as the lagging strand,
which presents problems because it has to form from the 5 to 3 end as well. As continuous replication
of the leading strand continues the lagging strand forms in pieces called Okazaki fragments. RNA
primase forms as RNA primer and polymerase III lay down new DNA. This process repeats again and
again. DNA polymerase I replaces RNA primers with DNA and DNA ligase links the Okazaki
fragments. Along with the process of DNA

Grade 1 Injury Essay
Description of the Injury
There are four different Hamstring muscles that run along the back of your thigh. These four muscles
are called: semimembranosus and semitendinosus (medially) and biceps femoris short and long heads
(laterally). Hamstrings strains can occur for multiple reasons.
There are three grades of hamstring strains; Grade 1 Pull, Grade 2 Partial tear, Grade 3 Avulsion. The
three grades are all different and show different signs and pain levels.
If you are experiencing a grade 1 hamstring strain you are likely to feel tightness at the back of your
thigh. You will be able to feel discomfort in your Hamstring and although you will be able to walk you
won t be able to run at full speed. Mild swelling and spasms will most likely occur. Grade 1 strains

Sudden pangs of pain will be present during activity. Same as the grade 1 strain there will be swelling
and the hamstring will be sore to touch. Bending your knee against resistance will be painful. Grade 2
strains take 4 8 weeks to heal.
The worst strain to the hamstring is a grade 3 strain. Grade 3 strains involve a tear to all or half of the
hamstring muscle. Walking will cause severe pain and you will either need assistance from someone
or crutches. Swelling will happen immediately and bruising will appear within 24 hours. Grade 3
strains take 3 6 months to heal.
Occurrence and Prevention
The factors that contribute to a strained Hamstring can be put into two different categories, primary
and secondary. Primary factors are the bad timing of intermuscular coordination and the strength of
the hamstring during the change between the late recovery of the leg and the approach in the swinging
motion of sprinting.
Secondary factors include things such as:
Poor running style
Over striding or bad control of pelvic movement can make the hamstrings vulnerable to injury

Northern Drilling, The World s Third Largest Exploration...
Northern Drilling: Introduction Northern Drilling Inc. was established as a subsidiary of Europe s
InterDrilling Corporation, the world s third largest exploration drilling contractor, in 2006 to take on a
new frontier in Canada. A seasoned veteran in the drilling exploration field for more than 30 years,
Peter Bremner took the helm as general manager to build its Canadian division as an opportunity to
take advantage of a potentially untapped resource goldmine . Northern Drilling prided itself as an
extremely specialized, full service drilling exploration company being technically sound along with
keeping the highest safety standards in the industry. They are predominantly hired by large mining
companies, with RFP s (Request for Proposal), to explore the possible existence of valuable ore
deposits, mostly in remote locations and occasionally in harsh conditions. The industry as a whole is
known as diamond exploration drilling, however it s not limited to one mineral, but rather anything
from industrial minerals such as salts or limestone to scarcer elements found beneath earth s surface

many smaller, more specialized commodity type contractors. They threaten the much larger
contractors such as Northern as they are able to accept RFP s on very thin margins with little to no

  • 2. Genetic Determinism Genetic Determinism On Christmas Day in the year 2001, I gave birth to a healthy baby boy. When I looked into the brand new face of my son I saw a beautiful mystery. I wondered what kind of man my boy would grow to be and what his life would be like. There are those in the scientific community who would argue that my son s path was already determined at the moment of his birth, that his fate could be deciphered from his genetic make up. As a nurturing mother I know better. At two years old my son has developed a more diverse vocabulary than many children twice or even three times his age. He recognizes many written words and reads them aloud. He is able to spell his name. He can distinguish a square from a rectangle and an octagon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many scholars believe that the new science of behavioral genetics has intellectual roots in the old ideas of Eugenics (Steen 33). Eugenics disguised a political agenda as a scientific one in an attempt to endow discrimination with credibility. Supporters of genetic determinism theories do the same. Richard Herrnstein and Charles Murray defend the theory of genetic determinism in The Bell Curve: Intelligence and Class Structure in American Life, which was published ten years ago. Their book is one of the most widely referenced works regarding the theory that intelligence is inherited. The authors claim that the social order mirrors natural selection, wherein the genetically superior or more intelligent human rises to the top. Of course this means that the lower class, predominantly blacks, are represented as genetically inferior (xxi xxiii). The authors claim that ethnic differences in cognitive ability are neither surprising nor in doubt (269) and attribute the inequality of life among Americans to inherent differences between races in intelligence (127). Their argument rests on the assertion that intelligence is both inheritable and immutable and is supported by intelligence test scores. The text is full of contradictions and a close analysis proves it to be lacking in evidence and smacking of social myth. Their theories are developed using speculation and are tainted by bias. There is no science involved. The theory of inherent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis Of Toni Morrison s Song Of Solomon In Toni Morrison s award winning novel Song of Solomon, she fills the novel with deep symbolism. Macon Dead III, nicknamed Milkman, is a symbolic character throughout the novel. Not only is he as a character symbolic, but his name is as well. Milkman s aunt, Pilate, has a significant and symbolic role in the novel. To her father, she represents the child who killed her own mother and took away his wife. In the Bible, Pontius Pilate is the Roman who is responsible for the execution of Jesus. With that information, one can say that the name Pilate seems to coincide with her father, Macon Dead s, opinion on what Pilate represents. What s ironic is that Pilate is a good person and is murdered in the end, just as Jesus was by Pontius Pilate. Guitar, Milkman s best friend, is another significant character in the novel who portrays deep symbolism. Guitar is named after something that he wanted very badly as a child. I saw it when my mother took me downtown with her. I was just a baby. It was one of those things where you guess how many beans in the glass jar and you win a guitar. I cried for it, they said. And always asked about it. This unreachable goal describes his character throughout the novel. He is never able to overcome the obstacles that stand ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Spirit World Essay This weeks reading continues with the theme of the of the Spirit world, with a specific interest in angels and demons. The text begins by stating quite plainly that one cannot deny the existence of angels under the authority of scripture. Yet, within this topic there seems to be an air of mysticism and pleasantries around these beings. In other words, when discussing this topic it is rather important to get away from the thought that we have an angel on one shoulder and a demon on the other. However, this is about as far an understanding as a majority of common culture has allowed. All the while, scripture is plain, angels do indeed exist throughout the whole new and old testament, from Genesis to Revelation. The text then transitions from the existence of angelic beings to the biblical description of them. The first characteristic that Ryrie mentions is the state of Angels as created beings as apposed to beings that create. This simply means that angels were created by God and they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Like the angels he shares in the ability to think, feel emotion, and have a personal will. That being said his personality is not described with the holiness of the angels. Coupling the existence of his personality with Jesus encounter with him in the desert gives further insight to his personhood. Simply put, Satan is not just a personification of evil because Jesus uses personal pronouns when speaking to and about him. The text then mentions something that I find rather comforting. Satan is a created being, he is not creator. He is not on an equal platform in power as God. This means that he possesses limitations to his power. For God alone holds the power of omnipotence, omnipresence, and omniscience. Though he is a mighty being he is still not as powerful as his creator. Satan is actually named as the chief arch angel in Ezekiel 28:12. This means he has held a great deal of power, which is why he is currently known as the prince of the ... These two children s cartoons are both perfect examples of Triton s modern influence. I m Nicholas Torres and I will be speaking about Triton. Born to Poseidon and Amphitrite, Triton was always in some way or another like his father. Triton carries a trident and uses a conch shell as a trumpet. Not much is known about Triton s childhood. One of the few things that is known about Triton is that he lived in a golden palace under water with his parents and that he really enjoyed traveling to the coast of Libya, where he met his lover, Libya. He had many siblings. Triton had about 50 half siblings. Some of them are Theseus, Orion, Belus, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The fruit peel of Lansium domesticum, var. pubescens ( thicker than that one of the sweeter var. domesticum ) exudes a white sap/latex containing the mosquito repelling triterpenes. The dried peel is burned and produces an aromatic, white smoke ( white from the sap and some remaining water ). Did you do a science project yourself, and do you have to write an abstract, or do you just have to describe what it is? I could not quite understand this.... but I can give you a general description of what it is. An abstract is basically a summary of a research project. It will usually describe four different things: 1. the objective (background) of the study, 2. the methods used, 3. the results found, and 4. the conclusions. It is usually very short (one paragraph), so it needs to describe all these things in a very compact, yet clear way. Abstracts are usually a part of a scientific publication, usually printed at the beginning. When researchers search in databases for relevant publications, they will search for keywords, and then a number of publications will pop up (similar to a Google search). In their result screen, they will see the abstract and read them to decide if they want to read the whole paper or not. So the abstract needs to be attractive and clear. • 7. Cyber Bullying Is Not A New Phenomenon Producing Danger Bullying in school is not a new phenomenon; it is as old as the education system. In texts as ancient as the Bible examples are explicit and evident. Throughout the ages bullying has been a tragic and catastrophic element that seems inevitable as it affects the lives of its victims. The fundamental purpose of a school is to educate and coach children in their emotional, cognitive, civic, vocational, and social development. On the contrary, however, schools are generating cutthroat, cruel, and isolated environments as oppressive social hierarchies are formed to comply with stereotypical gender traits. From ancient times to present day, bullying has always taken place. It may be delivered physically, verbally, and now even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Story of Joseph, in the book of Genesis, struck me as a primeval example of bullying dating back to 5th century BCE. Joseph was the 11th son of Jacob and was born to Jacob s favorite wife, Rachel. At the age of 17, Joseph was a shepherd alongside 11 of his brothers. His father, Jacob, displayed much more love to Joseph than any of his other sons, so much so that he gave Joseph a one of a kind coat of many colors (Genesis 37:23). The other brothers were jealous of Joseph and distained him. Joseph only further provoked this hatred when he told his brothers about two of his dreams he had of the family. The brother s tolerance only lasted so long. When the brothers saw him alone in a field, they plotted to kill him. When Joseph approached, they tore off his special coat and threw him into a pit. His brother, Judah, came up with the idea to sell Joseph into slavery. The brothers then dipped his coat into goat blood brought it back to Jacob. Jacob recognized the coat and concluded that a beast had killed his son, while in reality; he was in a caravan heading towards Egypt. There is no denying the raised awareness about bullying today than in past years. Although bullying has always existed, only recently has it been systematically measured. It was only in the 1980 s when Dan Olweus conducted initial studies on Norwegian and Swedish students. This account of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Betty Friedan s The Feminine Mystique In The Feminine Mystique, Betty Friedan presents several arguments that dealt with the issues of personal engagement and equality that women of the time faced, calling it, the problem that has no name. Friedan describes an ideal that middle class women of the 1960s were held to. She highlights that women were chained to kitchens and their spouses and children, while their dreams of careers and college degrees were suppressed. These women had goals and dreams, and they wanted more, but as Friedan describes, it was nearly impossible to break through the feminine mystique. Friedan argues that the stereotypes, occupations, and marriages that the women held caused the feminine mystique, however, she misses important structural issues, such ... If a woman wanted a job, she was capable of getting one. At the time The Feminine Mystique was published, two thirds of the women in America were actually already part of the working class. What it really came down to was how badly these middle to upper class women wanted to work outside of their homes. • 10. Essay On Ultra Wide Monitor 5. Ultrawide VS 4k Montior Which one should I buy? Well, they are both suitable for very different kind of users. Both of them offer a lot of screen space for productivity. But an ultrawide is more recommended for multi tasking. Sure, you can work with multiple applications on a 4K display, but it would be hard to read unless you scale it. In short, more pixels doesn t mean you ll achieve higher productivity. As for gamers, you need to know that between an ultra wide monitor or a 4K, the latter demands a more powerful computer in order to fully enjoy the content. With an ultrawide monitor, you won t need to upgrade your rig to enjoy the smooth gameplay experience. Whereas with a 4K monitor; video games will look more stunning, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As for gamers, multiple monitors can be annoying for long gaming sessions since you ll have to constantly move your head to enjoy everything that s happening on two or three different screens. On the other hand, ultrawide monitor won t cause this kind of problem as a single curved screen offers enough viewing space without the hassle of maneuvering your head all the time. Also, unlike a multi monitor setup, ultrawide monitors will provide an immersive experience on a giant single screen and that too without any bezels. Moreover, you ll also get lots of features in an ultrawide gaming monitor like G Sync, Free Sync, Gameplus Technology, Flicker Free technology, and gaming mode in the adjustment settings. Combined, all of these features will give you a more enjoyable gaming experience than a dual or triple monitor setup. In short, I think buying an ultrawide unit is better than a multiple monitor setup for productivity and gaming. Even if it costs a bit more, the advantages of an ultrawide monitor give it an edge over a dual or triple monitor setup. Have you noticed that everyone is demanding for features like big screen, higher resolution, low refresh rate and amazing picture quality in an affordable Monitor? Up until now, 1080p IPS widescreens were the standard monitor for regular usage and gaming. But today, you can find a

Mark Twain the writer of The Celebrated Jumping Frog of the Calaveras Country and Charles Dickens the author of The Baron of Grogzwig , both presented disjunction as a literary technique to evoke a numerous response from their readers. Disjunction was seen in Mark Twain s story during the part when the story started in a way the narrator was in search for Leonidas Smiley and ended up getting information about Jim Smiley. Just as the Baron who wanted to die but ended up realizing that it was not worth it. For me, this literary technique caught the attention of most readers. In the story of The Celebrated Jumping Frog of the Calaveras Country, symbolism, personification and flashback may be seen too. Mark Twain, used the real politicians and symbolized them using animals that would fit their own characteristics. Personification can be seen when the story of Jim Smiley was told, one perfect example was when the frog Daniel Webster was educated and the literary technique that was used so much was flashback when Jim Smiley s story was told. Each, in its utmost development, supposes a high degree of intimacy and heart knowledge; each renders one individual dependent for the food of his affections and spiritual life upon another; each leaves the passionate lover, or the no less passionate hater, forlorn and desolate by the withdrawal of his object. (page 412 chapter 24) The reoccurring deteriorating scaffold Pearl Prynne, and the rosebush and ugly weeds are reoccurring symbols in Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter. Hawthorne s characters symbolically transform the scaffold from beginning to end of the novel. Next the three scaffold scenes physically deteriorate with an underlying symbolic tone. Finally, the symbolic use of the scaffold throughout The Scarlet Letter leaves a lasting impression of its readers. The scaffold in the scarlet letter is a structure in the middle of Boston during the 17th century that was used as a tool of torture used against people who have committed sins. They stood upon it for hours at a time in front of the public being judged for what they did wrong. Pearl kissed his lips. A spell was broken. According to the National Center on RTI website, the first step a district needs to take to begin RTI is to access the needs of the district and gather information on RTI. If RTI meets the needs of the district, then an action plan should be developed. The district should form a leadership team that consists of an administrator, general education teacher, special education teacher, and school psychologist. Next, a universal screener should be adopted. This screener, for example, DIBELS, should be administered three times a year. Also, professional development should be planned to assist with the understanding of how RTI works and how the data will drive instruction. According to the ESU10 RTI website, RTI is an educational service delivery system designed to provide effective instruction for all students using a comprehensive and preventive problem solving approach. RTI is a three tiered method of instructional delivery to meet the needs of most students. The three tiers consist of the core, targeted, and intensive. The tiers represent instructional supports. Tier one is the utilization of a researched based core instruction program. The district should implement a universal screener to check for students learning. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Like Judaism, Christianity teaches that God endowed human life with intrinsic value. From the first century A.D. to the twentieth century, virtually all Christians condemned suicide as a means of escaping the suffering that afflicts human beings. This accounted for the uniformity of opinion throughout Christendom about the virtues of extending human life and enduring suffering when death approached as an essential part of God s providential plan for each and every individual. Once Christianity became more widespread, it is easy to see that the trend moved towards saving each and every person s life, even to the detriment to the quality of life experienced before death. Early Christians built hospitals and cared for the sick, while many monks became Hippocratic physicians and continued the Hippocratic tradition through the Dark Ages (Reville 2010). Largely driven by Christian ideals, medicine and nursing spread throughout the world, and remained under this Hippocratic Christian consensus until the 1950 s (Reville 2010). In fact America began to get its first taste of a shifting public opinion on euthanasia in 1915 when a doctor by the name of Harry J. • 33. Dna And Sequence Of Dna Essay DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) is a self replicating nucleic acid that carries the genetic information in cells in a double helix structure. The 2 stranded helix is composed of 4 nucleotides, Adenine (A), Thymine (T), Guanine (G), and Cytosine (C). The base pairs only form between A and T connected by 2 Hydrogen bonds and G and C connected by 3 hydrogen bonds. Foremost DNA wrapping comes about as DNA wraps around protein called histones. These combined loops of DNA and protein are called nucleosomes and the nucleosomes are packaged into a thread called chromatin. Chromosomes are made up of packaged chromatin and can be seen in the nucleus of dividing cells and form around DNA replication. Furthermore, DNA replication begins with 2 DNA strands being separated by the helicase enzyme. Single stranded DNA binding proteins attach to these strands to keep them from re connecting. 1 DNA strand begins to encode called the leading strand, which Forms from 5 to 3 end using DNA polymerase 3 the primary polymerase. The other strand is referred to as the lagging strand, which presents problems because it has to form from the 5 to 3 end as well. As continuous replication of the leading strand continues the lagging strand forms in pieces called Okazaki fragments. RNA primase forms as RNA primer and polymerase III lay down new DNA. This process repeats again and again. DNA polymerase I replaces RNA primers with DNA and DNA ligase links the Okazaki fragments. Along with the process of DNA ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
