Wind turbines convert the kinetic energy of wind into electrical energy. They work by using blades caught by the wind to spin a shaft connected to a generator. Wind turbines can catch fire due to flammable materials near hot or faulty machinery and wiring, and high winds can spread any fires. There are two main types of wind turbines: horizontal axis turbines with blades parallel to the ground and vertical axis turbines with blades perpendicular to the ground.
