3. WIND ENERGY:
Energy recovered from the force of the wind is
called “wind energy”.
The Energy possessed by wind is due to its high
speed.
Wind power is extracted from air flow using wind
turbines or sails to produce mechanical or electrical
power.
Wind mills are used for their mechanical
power, wind pumps for water pumping, and sails to
propel ships.
Wind energy as an alternative to fossil fuels, is
plentiful, renewable widely distributed, clean,
produces no greenhouse gas emissions during
operation and uses little land.
4. WIND MILL:
A windmill is a mill that converts
the energy of wind into rotational
energy by means of vanes
called sails or blades . Centuries
ago, windmills usually were used
to mill grain, pump water, or both.
Wind mill is a device used to
convert wind energy into
electrical energy and various other
forms of energy

Generator
6. It consist of wheel containing number of blades which rotates about an axle
mounted on a pole .One end is connected to the generator while the other is
connected to the shaft .
When Wind falls on the wheel the blade rotates which in turn rotates the
shaft.
The rotation of the shaft set the armature of the generator in motion which is
placed between two strong magnetic fields .By “ flemmings right hand rule”,
electricity is produced due to magnetic field and movement of the armature.

It is one in which the axis of
wind mill is vertical to the tower
It is one in which the axis of wind

8. OTHER METHODS OF WIND ENERGY HARNESSMENT
Hovering turbine :
Sky sail:
A floating wind turbine is an offshore wind
turbine mounted on a floating structure that
allows the turbine to generate electricity in
water depths where bottom-mounted towers
are not feasible.
The Sky Sails propulsion system consists
of a large foil kites, an electronic
control system for the kite and an automatic
system to retract the kite.
9. Wind farm:
Flying electric generator:
A wind farm or wind park is a group
of wind turbines in the same location
used to produce energy. A large wind
farm may consist of several hundred
individual wind turbines and cover an
extended area of hundreds of square
miles.
An airborne wind turbine is a design
concept for a wind turbine with a rotor
supported in the air without a tower , thus
benefiting from more mechanical and
aerodynamic options, the higher velocity
and persistence of wind at high altitudes,
while avoiding the expense of tower
construction.
