 What is wind?
 Wind is the air in motion.
 Wind is the source of solar energy.
 Wind is the renewable energy source b/c wind
will blow as long as sun shines.
 How winds are formed?
 Wind is caused by the heating of atmosphere by the
sun,the earth’s rotation and the irregularities in the earth
surface.
 During the day the air above the land heats up more
quickly than the air above the water.
 The warmer air expands and rises up and the cooler air
rusher in to take place of warmer air creating winds, it will
be a repeating cycle producing winds.
 But in the night it’s reverse water cools up more quickly.
Wind Energy Or Power
 The process of converting the wind in to mechanical
power or electricity.
 Wind turbines used for converting winds in to
mechanical power.
 This mechanical power is used in specific purposes for
grinding grains, pumping water and a generator may
be used for converting it to electricity.
How wind turbine works?
 Wind turbines uses blades for collecting kinetic energy of the
wind.
 Wind turbines works b/c it slow down the speed of wind. The
wind will move above the airfoil shape blades which causing lift
like the effect of air plane wings which causes it to trun.
 Wind machine blades spin when it collect kinetic energy from
wind, the blades are connected to the driving shaft which is
linked to the generator in order to produce electricity.
 Wind turbines works opposite of fans. Instead of using fan for
producing wind , we use wind mills by using winds we generate
electricity.
Power in the wind
 The wind mill work on the principle of converting
kinetic energy of the wind in to the mechanical power
 P=pAV³/2
 where p is density
 A= area of blades
 V is velocity of air
 And
 K.E=1/2mv²
 m=pAV
Types of wind mills
 Horizontal wind
mills(propeller)
 Horizontal wind mill
have an axis of rotation
horizontal with respect
to ground level and
blades like airplane
propeller.
Vertical Wind mills
 Vertical wind mill have
an axis of rotation
vertical with respect to
ground level
Advantages and Disadvantges of
wind turbine
 Advantages
 Wind energy is fueled by
the wind so it is a clean
fuel source.
 It does not pollute the
weather b/c it has no
combustion like coal and
fossil fuels
 Advantages
 It is one of the lowest price
renewable energy source.
 It is reliable and has been
used for ages.
 Wind energy is a domestic
source of energy

Top Three largest wind Mills
 . Vestas V164 8MW
 The V164 8MW turbine is
the latest addition to the to
top 5 list. The Vestas V164
came online in January
2014, nearly three years
after the project was first
unveiled in London.
Curiously for an offshore
turbine, the V164 is geared.
Other notable features
include a 80 metre-long
blades and a lightweight.

2.Enercon E126 7.5MW
 The majority of the turbines
on this list are designed for
the offshore market.
But Enercon 's E126 7.5MW, is
purely designed for the
onshore sector. The initial
6MW second-generation
Enercon E-126, introduced in
2007, featured a concrete
tower with a 135-metre hub
height, and segmented steel-
composite hybrid blades with
a 127-metre rotor diameter. It
also holds a 12-metre
diameter generator.
3. Samsung S7.0 171 7MW
 Samsung's 7MW is the latest
addition to the top 5 and one
of a number of next
generation in development
for the market. This is the
first prototype to be built (at
a test site in Scotland) and
was only completed in
October. Among its features,
it includes the world's longest
turbine blade at almost 85-
metres. To put this in context
this record has been extended
by almost 10 metres over the
last year

  • 3. Objectives Wind Formation of Wind Wind Turbine Application & types of Wind Mills
  • 4.  What is wind?  Wind is the air in motion.  Wind is the source of solar energy.  Wind is the renewable energy source b/c wind will blow as long as sun shines.
  • 5.  How winds are formed?  Wind is caused by the heating of atmosphere by the sun,the earth’s rotation and the irregularities in the earth surface.  During the day the air above the land heats up more quickly than the air above the water.  The warmer air expands and rises up and the cooler air rusher in to take place of warmer air creating winds, it will be a repeating cycle producing winds.  But in the night it’s reverse water cools up more quickly.

Wind Energy Or Power  The process of converting the wind in to mechanical power or electricity.  Wind turbines used for converting winds in to mechanical power.  This mechanical power is used in specific purposes for grinding grains, pumping water and a generator may be used for converting it to electricity.
  • 7. How wind turbine works?  Wind turbines uses blades for collecting kinetic energy of the wind.  Wind turbines works b/c it slow down the speed of wind. The wind will move above the airfoil shape blades which causing lift like the effect of air plane wings which causes it to trun.  Wind machine blades spin when it collect kinetic energy from wind, the blades are connected to the driving shaft which is linked to the generator in order to produce electricity.  Wind turbines works opposite of fans. Instead of using fan for producing wind , we use wind mills by using winds we generate electricity.

  • 9. Power in the wind  The wind mill work on the principle of converting kinetic energy of the wind in to the mechanical power  P=pAV³/2  where p is density  A= area of blades  V is velocity of air  And  K.E=1/2mv²  m=pAV
  • 10. Types of wind mills  Horizontal wind mills(propeller)  Horizontal wind mill have an axis of rotation horizontal with respect to ground level and blades like airplane propeller.
  • 11. Vertical Wind mills  Vertical wind mill have an axis of rotation vertical with respect to ground level

Advantages and Disadvantges of wind turbine  Advantages  Wind energy is fueled by the wind so it is a clean fuel source.  It does not pollute the weather b/c it has no combustion like coal and fossil fuels  Advantages  It is one of the lowest price renewable energy source.  It is reliable and has been used for ages.  Wind energy is a domestic source of energy

  • 14. Top Three largest wind Mills  . Vestas V164 8MW  The V164 8MW turbine is the latest addition to the to top 5 list. The Vestas V164 came online in January 2014, nearly three years after the project was first unveiled in London. Curiously for an offshore turbine, the V164 is geared. Other notable features include a 80 metre-long blades and a lightweight.
  • 15. . 2.Enercon E126 7.5MW  The majority of the turbines on this list are designed for the offshore market. But Enercon 's E126 7.5MW, is purely designed for the onshore sector. The initial 6MW second-generation Enercon E-126, introduced in 2007, featured a concrete tower with a 135-metre hub height, and segmented steel- composite hybrid blades with a 127-metre rotor diameter. It also holds a 12-metre diameter generator.
  • 16. 3. Samsung S7.0 171 7MW  Samsung's 7MW is the latest addition to the top 5 and one of a number of next generation in development for the market. This is the first prototype to be built (at a test site in Scotland) and was only completed in October. Among its features, it includes the world's longest turbine blade at almost 85- metres. To put this in context this record has been extended by almost 10 metres over the last year
