Block Grants Advantages
Giving states more power in terms of policy making, would improve new policies made from states
and would allow state governments to make policies that pertain to what goes on in that state.
Devolving power from the national government to state level helps provide a more localized outlook
on political views and other issues. There are some issues with devolving power from national to state
level such as adding more layers to government, which can complicate things. Many states use block
grants, which provide funds to states without any discretion, the use of block grants also is a way of
reducing federal control (We The People 96). The federal government should devolve some more
power to state governments because the benefits would outweigh ... Show more content on

Because of The act businesses cannot discriminate workers based on their disability, and must
accommodate the worker if they are able to. Public transportation must also be able to accommodate
disabled passengers by having wheelchair access. The clean Air Act deals with solving air pollution
problems through science and new information. The purpose for this act is to decrease the amount of
pollution that we give off, and work towards making the air cleaner for everyone. Although progress
has been made to lower pollution levels, it still is a threat to people s lives. A goal that was set in the
year 1975 was going to try and achieve National Ambient Air Quality Standards in every state to keep
people healthy. Clean Air Act programs has lowered at least six un harmful, and also decreased a
number of harmful pollutants from the air. The decrease in air pollutants has resulted an increase in air
quality, this has also resulted states to reach health standards placed by the Clean Air Act.
Unfortunately, the pollution is still high and have caused some permanent damage to the ecosystem of
plants and aquatic animals such as fish. To further prevent or reduce pollution a large scale of things is
now made to emit much less pollution than before, such as, cars, factories, and power plants. The act
is also benefiting economics by making air cleaner, there will be less sick people and the numbers of
workers

A Marxist Criticism on The Importance of Being Earnest
A Marxist Criticism on The Importance of Being Earnest
Excuse me Geoffrey, could you get me some more water. I m terribly thirsty, and the weather out here
isn t doing any good for my complexion. declares the man as he sighs in exhaustion.
Right away sir, anything else? proclaims the servant.
No that will be all. says the man as he waves off the servant.
So is this the scene of yesteryear s society or one of today s, well in actuality it can be either. In today
s world the rich still rely on butlers and maids. It seems to be a practice that will always exist in this
world, but the question largely is not on their jobs, but if they are deemed of a different class, and
sadly to say yes. In today s world it seems that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With this character Wilde show s the reader that all nobles aren t perfect and can be more flawed than
the average person, and portrayed was the fact that the rich and noble sometimes seem to abuse that
position and end up in a deeper hole than most others. Then there is his Aunt Augusta, who is a very
powerful character. Aunt Augusta in her own rights is the dominant persona in the play.
She holds the cards and plays them at her own discretion. Her character reveals to the audience that in
nobility there isn t just the man who controls things, but in many cases it is the female. She takes over
the role of leader and makes for an interesting view on the female aspect of nobility, but however there
is another aspect to female nobility, and that is inherent in Gwendolyn. She possesses all the attributes
of, plain and simply, a snob. She has the beauty, the upbringing and the turned up nose of a noble. She
symbolizes a part of nobility that most people will not talk about, but however Wilde does talk and
better yet he reveals all of the little quirks of the noble class. In Gwendolyn is the part of the class
where, nobility has turned from respect and prestige and into vanity. She has abused the prestige she
has and turned into a vain quest to be looked upon and desired. It seems that the Victorian class had
little class in the nobles, but

My Time At The End Of The Day
Throughout the last 2 weeks it was interesting to observe where my time has gone to. Often, we hear
others and ourselves say phrases like, Where has the time gone? Or, Where has my day gone to? With
this exercise, I can now comprehend how I spend the majority of my time and figure out how to solve
my not having enough time to do it all problem. At the end of the day, one does not have time to do
everything, so we have to choose the important items on the list of to dos. But what do you eliminate
and what do you keep?
As I observe my time, I notice that the majority of my time was spent doing homework. Almost every
day was spent doing class, maybe a workout like a bike ride or run, and homework. It was not until the
weekend of the most recent week I had any time to watch a movie or just sit around a play on my
phone. Of course I did do activities that were purely for my pleasure, such as phone calls, practice,
long dinner time with friends, make new microwave creations with my roomie. These events,
however, are also very important. Social life is what keeps us from losing our mind. If I did homework
at every meal, I would not make new friends nor connect and catch up with my old ones. As humans,
we need relationships to help keep us accountable in our walk with God, in our academics and to share
with. Jesus had his friends while He walked on earth, just like we need friends. This is the reason we
have D groups and accountability partners. This is why it is important not

Harry Potter And The Chronicles Of Narnia
Growing up everyone is forced to read. First, children start by being read to by their parents and then
slowly over time and learning, read for themselves. Children usually at this point either quit reading
all together or continue to endure and learn into classical readings such as: Harry Potter, or The
Chronicles of Narnia. Kids who go through school are forced to read to increase their comprehension
skills, and the ones who read on their own outside of school as well, usually have an increased score
than others. Mostly people who do not read on their own have trouble connecting with the books or
reading that they try. They seem to not be able to stay focused on the book, and easily become
distracted with other things. Growing up I was a kid like this. I still to this day struggle with not
becoming distracted with other things while I am trying to read. I always start with good intentions
and then halfway down any certain page, I find myself daydreaming about something random like
what I had for dinner the night before. I always had this problem, until now. During this summer
literature course I have had a new inspiration for reading. From the first short story we read, The
Notorious Jumping Frog of Calaveras County, to the last I was surprised how interested I was in the
stories. I didn t find myself daydreaming in the middle of these stories, and instead, I was focused and
intrigued on how it would end. Although many stories spoke to me during my time in this class,

Fun Facts About Football History
Abstract:
Hey you guys and girls, today we will be discussing the things that I love to talk about the most, the
game of football its history. Throughout this essay we will be hitting on the following topics: three fun
facts about football; who deserved the game of football and how; who was the first four players to
diversify the game of football; Who were the first colleges to pick up the game of football; a visual
and results of survey in with I conducted by asking mi classmates five random questions about the
game of football; and finally what makes the game better and/ or worse than it is today.
From the early ages in history to the present day, the game of football has always been an important
part of society. In a way It teaches its players things like: self discipline, how to be a team player, how
to interact with others and it s also a good source of physical activity. Throughout history the game
itself has changed; from the first rounded ball that was to throw, to the modern prolate spheroid
shaped ball of today that is air dynamic and easier to throw (how it s made). But hears the biggies
question, is the game of football better now than it was in in its prime. I would say my reason for
picking this topic, would be because most people like me love the game football, but there are some
who love the game as well, but don t know or keep up with the changes rule and/ or polices.

Reading Anne Frank Diary
Anne Frank: a young Jewish girl who lived in Europe with big dreams, and an even bigger heart. She
had the jaw dropping ability to touch the hearts of millions around the world with her heart wrenching
story swirling within the pages of her diary. She wrote down all her feelings in her little red checkered
diary with the hopes of living to see it published and red by little children all over the world.
Unfortunately, only half of that statement is true. Reading Anne Frank s diary is a truly mind opening
experience, and a plethora can be learned from it. Reading the play and watching the movie has given
me some topics to say about her life and experience. Reading Anne s diary has affected me in quite of
bit of ways. It s like seeing a glimpse into her life, her feelings, how she was treated by her family, and
how she interacted with the rest of the people staying at the Annex. She was very creative and bright,
and a funny light hearted character. She personally made me want to appreciate the little things in life
a lot more, and to appreciate what I have. Because who knows? Someday you could be swept up in a
war that has nothing to do with you, except for you religion. I was also stuck with a crushing
depressed feeling deep in my chest, knowing this girl who wasn t much older then me died before she
could see her dreams take flight. Imagine what it must be like to constantly be wondering if you will
ever have a future.

The Issues Of Urban Poverty
American life was transformed in the 1960s from the start of the decade. The 1960s consisted of new
rights and new understandings of freedom. The sixties consisted of rights for racial minorities to be
involved in the mainstream of the American lifestyle. However, unsolved issues of urban poverty still
existed. Women in the 1960s established a conversion in women s status, for instance, women entered
the paid workforce. America experienced a growth of conservative movements, consequently, the
1960s would confront judgment for social ill, crime and drug abuse and drug abuse as well as decline
respect towards authority. In despite of crisis, America became a tolerant nation. The sixties are known
as a decade of drastic change, rebellion, and backlash. Also, for the American individuals that came of
age during the sixties, the generation known as the Baby Boomers, wanted to change the culture of
their parents. Terry Anderson and Peter Clecak both present different judgment of the social activism
of the 1960s. Terry H. Anderson, from the The Sea Change, implied that the sixties achieved a positive
transformation within politics, society culture, and foreign power. Anderson believed that America
became more democratic as well as comprehensive. (361) On the contrary, Peter Clecak, from The
New Left, argued that radicals failed to revolutionize in the sixties and additionally became powerless
against the dominant social order. (361) Although certain Americans opposed and judged

Comparing Dante Alighieri s Inferno And The Faerie Queene
Both Dante Alighieri s Inferno and Edmund Spenser s The Faerie Queene depict wooded forests
wrought with transformed men as trees. In the Inferno and The Faerie Queene an existential
conundrum of compromised identities leaves Pier della Vigne and Fraudubio sans human choice.
Dehumanized and disfigured, the individuals that comprise the trees still retain human qualities like
talking, breathing, and, even, bleeding under certain circumstances. Within each space, whether it is
considered a definite locus amoenus or a locus horribilis, the most significant human attribute to
which these trees cling is bleeding and thus they have a small handful of feelings and emotions still
within each of them. Instead of their ripped branches symbolizing death and decay, the breaking of the
branches within Inferno 13 and The Faerie Queene 1.2, give the trees life as if nothing has changed.
While the bleeding infers a loss of identity in both, redeemable only for one of the two, it also lets
their stories be told. Their stories, sad in nature, have redemptive qualities and move the two pilgrims
that listen to their doleful tales. The Inferno illustrates the journey of Dante the pilgrim as he travels
through the nine circles of Hell wherein each circle objectifies a specific sin like lust, gluttony, greed
or violence; there the sinners endure eternal punishment. In the seventh circle, the circle of violence,
Dante interacts with the suicides and profligates. Condemned to live eternally as

Imagery Throughout History Has Been A Big Factor In Creating
Imagery throughout history has been a big factor in creating social norms and acts as a site of conflict.
Throughout time, we have used art pieces such as stories, mythology, paintings and movies as a way
of conflict, to get a point across, or to tell a story. A big theme presented over time has been the
ideologies of women and their role. Through time, we are able to see the way in which the roles of a
female has been continuously constructed and reconstructed over and over again. This paper will look
at the portrayal of femme fatale throughout history showing the lack of progression when it comes to
gender stereotypes.
The femme fatale is a mysterious, seductive woman who lures men into dangerous or compromising
situations, attracting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These characteristics are even present in the story of Adam and Eve. In fact, characteristics drawn
from biblical contexts seem to be very prominent. It is through these images of a woman that first
create these gender stereotypes. As we go on, it will be seen that different pieces of work allow
maintaining and further reinforcing the stereotype of the femme fatale. The story of Adam and Eve is
perhaps the first example of a femme fatale. Eve the first woman on earth, created from a man s rib as
a gift to Adam from god. Eve sought the Tree of Knowledge and as the story goes, bit into the apple in
the Garden of Eden, letting all evil into the world. Eve brought about the fall of mankind and
introduced things such as sin and death. She was tempted by the serpent and further, tempts Adam
with her beauty and sexuality to bite the apple thus being the classic example of a femme fatale.
Another popular example is taken from Jewish tradition. The very popular Lilith is also associated
with the first version of creation. Estimated at 1025 1594 BCB Lilith was Adams first wife. God is
said to have created Lilith from clay, not from a mans rib, thus being equal to man. The story goes as
Lilith shows up as a naked lady to seduce husbands who otherwise are reasonable husbands. Lilith s
name is associated with being related to a dark deity, ex goddess, ancient demon, and even a vampire
throughout time. One thing

My Informative Speech On Parcheesi
For any presentation, keeping the audience engaged is the number one priority. Over the course of the
semester we learned various techniques to engage with the audience and to keep them focused. For
example, asking the audience questions either during or after your presentation can be a good way to
make the audience feel involved. Asking for volunteers is another way to make your audience feel
important. These were some techniques that I liked to use during my presentations. I used both of
these techniques specifically during my informative speech about Parcheesi. One reason that I think
the audience was the most engaged during my informative speech is because it was a new topic for
most of them. A lot of people have not heard of Parcheesi and I think the introduction of a new topic
helped keep the audience engaged. When I would around while giving my informative speech I saw a
lot of active listeners . The textbook defines active listening as Giving undivided attention to a speaker

Your first job in the introduction is to get the attention and interest of the audience. You can do this by
posing a question, telling a story, making a startling statement, or opening with a quotation. The
purpose of all these methods is to create a dramatic, colorful opening that will make your audience
want to hear more (Lucas 65). In my introduction for my informative speech I used a lot of the
techniques that the book discusses. For example I asked questions, like How many of you like to play
board games and Have any of you ever played Parcheesi? (Sullivan 1). Another technique that I used
in my introduction was telling a story. In my introduction I said, Every night before I go back to
school my grandma comes over and my mom, brother, grandma, and I eat spaghetti and then play a
game of Parcheesi (Sullivan 1). I also used a quote in my introduction paragraph for my informative

Chemiluminol Synthesis Lab Report
Abstract During the experiment, there were two tasks performed; the synthesization of luminol and the
display of chemiluminescence. The starting material used was 5 nitro 2,3 dihydrophthalazine 1,4
dione, and after the addition of NaOH, sodium hydrosulfite, acetic acid and water, we were left with
the product of crude luminol.1 Then, the crude luminol was dissolved into a stock solution that
contained NaOH.1 That stock solution A was then diluted with water, which turned it into solution A.1
That solution was then combined with solution B, a mixture made from potassium ferricyanide and
hydrogen peroxide then diluted with water, which allowed us to observe the blue light emission that
was chemiluminescence.1

The Wise Sea Poem Analysis
The Wise Men Speak
(An Analysis on Sailing)
William Butler Yeats, was a poet from the Victorian age. Philosophers say that Yeats was one of the
greatest poets of all time, William Butler Yeats is widely considered to be one of the greatest poets of
the 20th century (Adams). One of Yeats most famous poem was Sailing to Byzantium. In the poem
Sailing, Yeats expresses three very important messages. The messages that Yeats expresses in Sailing
are, that the soul wants to leave body when it s about time to go, the elders are more wise, and that
younger generation doesn t listen to their elders. In the poem Sailing, Yeats expresses that as our body
ages our souls are ready to be set free. Our souls never age, but our bodies do. As our bodies start to
age our souls are ready to be set free from our aging bodies. Yeats states that when our souls are close
to being set free they start to sing, Soul clap its hands and sing, louder sing (11). The soul is
celebrating that it s about to be set free from its aging body. Our bodies are dead, but our souls
continue to live on. Dr. Duncan MacDougall of Haverhill, Massachusetts states, Human beings are
possessed of souls which depart their bodies after death and that these souls have detectable physical
presences were around well before the 20th century . Our souls continue to live after we are no longer
living. Another message represented in the poem Sailing, is that our elders are wise. Our elders are

Gender Roles Of Women And Women
Gender is one of the greatest factors that can determine how we define ourselves and others. Although
gender is determined at birth for many, it does not influence one s identity of self until a later age.
How society views the roles of each gender influences how a person views themselves. As the views
changes, so does one s identity. In the past, the roles of men and women were defined and separated.
Men were expected to provide income for the family, while women were expected to take care of the
home. Doing things outside these roles caused negative reactions from the community and frowned
upon. Today, there is still a difference between men and women, but a lot of the roles have become
acceptable for both. Within my culture, gender roles have generally been set and defined to conform to
preexisting traditions. Men were viewed as strong and the bread earner and women were weak,
unintelligent family care takers. To this day, I feel this notion still exists in the contemporary society
due to the deep seated nature of Confucianism in the Chinese culture. Even in Chinese school, we
were assigned gender roles and taught proverbial stories instilled with concepts regarding women s
inferiority and subordination to men by nature. These gender constructs were enforced beyond
childhood and some of my Chinese classes even imposed gender specific behavioral conventions.
Many of my textbooks would mainly revolve around male characters as opposed to female characters
and there were

Critical Analysis Of The Baddest Dog In Harlem
English essay The Baddest Dog in Harlem
In this assignment an analyze and a interpret of the short story called the Baddest Dog in Harlem is
written . The analyze will focus on the settings and the tone of the voice. The young adult novel is
written by Walter Dean Myers, an African American.
The narrator in the text do we not get much information about, but it is likely that he is black since he
lives in Harlem. His friends in the text are Mr. Lynch Wille, and Pedro. In the beginning of the text, it
starts with in medias res with the narrator and his friends sitting and discussing who the best fighter is,
but all of a sudden a police car shows up in front of them because they got a tip about a man carrying
an automatic weapon. A policeman asks the characters in for how long they have been sitting and
Pedro Answers two hours maybe three . They seem to be unemployed since they can spend hours
talking who the best fighter is.
The setting is Harlem. Harlem is in northern Manhattan New York. It is known as a major African
American cultural, business and residential center. From 1920 2008, most of the populations have
been African Americans . Harlem is known as one of the worst areas for crime in New York and it also
has the biggest crime rate in Manhattan. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

narrator, slang is used much on quotes when African Americans are talking. An example is when the
narrator says What they mean about some automatic weapons . Another example is also when Pedro
called out to an officer and says We got to get away from fore we get sot up . The two examples on the
quotes are clearly grammatically wrong, but at the same time they can also give a picture on how
people in Harlem talks. When it comes to language the youth in Harlem, especially talks differently
than other and the author of the novel also wanted his story to sound

Elizabethan Era Instruments
Violins, flutes, ruffs, and farthingales. Where are they all from you ask, the Elizabethan Era. Music
has always been important to society, but during the Elizabethan Era it played an extreme role. This
paper will give readers a deeper understanding of the music during the Elizabethan Era and what it
was to be a musician in that time. Welcome to the Elizabethan Era. Well everyone loves music. Music
deals with almost everything. Instrumental music was very popular during the Elizabethan Era. There
were many instruments. The most popular solo instruments of the time were the virginal and the lute.
The virginal was a popular variant of the harpsichord among the English and one of Elizabeth s
favorite instruments to play. The introduction of new musical instruments such as the early violin
called the viol, the early oboe called the hautboy and the keyboard musical instruments called the
spinet, harpsichord and the virginals provided the sounds which produced a much more refined sound
than had been produced during the Medieval era. They really used the same instruments we do now.
The only difference is it just looks different than it did back then. The instruments we use look modern
and probably sound a little better than they did back then. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Theme Of Sensory Evidence In The Duchess Of Malfi
The Duchess of Malfi by John Webster is a tragic play, which deals with love, power, and madness.
The madness derives from the use of sensory evidence. In many cases, Webster uses sensory evidence
to push his characters to the limit of their own mind. The concept of sensory experience is a way to
grab your readers attention while using the five senses to do so. Webster employs this concept in ways
that progress the plot. However, it causes much trouble for most of the characters, especially The
Duchess herself. Although there could be many factors that affect the death of the Duchess, the use of
the sensory experience is the most evident. We can easily observe this by her marriage to Antonio, her
relationship with Bosola, and her problems with Ferdinand. To begin, a crucial conversation shapes
the course of the play in a subtle but immense way. In Act 1, scene 3, The Cardinal and Ferdinand
insist that The Duchess does not remarry after the death of her husband. However, they are not aware
that the Duchess is planning on marrying Antonio, her old steward. The following citation shows
Ferdinand s thought of those who remarry. Marry! They are most luxurious/will wed twice. (John
Webster, Act 1, scene 3, line 6 7) His comment uses the word Luxurious which means lecherous.
Ferdinand is saying that widows that remarry are driven by an excessive desire for sexual relations
and nothing more. After both brothers have spoken of their thoughts on the matter, The Duchess
assures

Vanity Fair, A Popular Culture And Fashion Magazine
Famous actor Jennifer Aniston is the epitome of youth and success in today s pop culture. In essence,
she represents what all middle aged women should look like and what young women should want to
look like at the age of 46. She can be found in various advertisements for health and beauty products,
and with a personal Fountain of Youth and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, she is usually
portrayed as an inspiration for women (and if she is not thought of this way, she can definitely make a
grown woman roll her eyes and scoff). For the past fifty years, advertisements have laid down the
laws and standards of recognizable beauty. Ads found in Vanity Fair, a popular culture and fashion
magazine which targets young middle aged women, and InStyle, a Hollywood fashion and celebrity
trend magazine with a broad aged audience of high middle class women, will be used to discuss points

Patriot Movie Vs History
Movies are a brilliant way to immerse yourself into a wonderful story, full of well developed,
interesting (well, there have been some exceptions) characters. People in the film industry work hard
to come up with a plot line that can draw in many viewers. There are not only movies that are created
as a work of fantasy, but also ones that are inspired by real events that has transpired. Many have been
based on historical events that we learned in history class. Yes, a movie might be able to teach you a
thing or two about the past. What better way to learn history, right? Unfortunately, the ones making
the film don t always portray the most accurate of content relating to history. It is a movie; not a
documentary. The Patriot is one of those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Battle of Camden was shown briefly; it was being observed from an abandoned house by
Benjamin and Gabriel when they left to join the war. Benjamin criticised on how Gates led his troops.
It was on August 16 when this battle took place. General Horatio Gates lost to Cornwallis s army in
the movie and in history. The final battle of the film was based on the Battle of Cowpens and the
Battle of Guilford Courthouse. The Battle of Guilford Courthouse has less similarities to the end battle
of the movie than the Battle of Cowpens. On January 16, 1781, Daniel Morgan took charge of the
militia at the Battle of Cowpens. Instead of Morgan in this battle, we have Benjamin Martin taking the
spotlight. Morgan knew that militia might try to retreat, so he made it to where they cannot run.
Behind him and the men was the Broad River, which cut off an escape route. This made it so the
militia would have to choose to fight or die. The battle in the movie did not show any kind of river
around the area. Morgan put his rawest militiamen in the front line, backing them up with seasoned
men from Virginia and his veteran Continental troops (Phillips). Even the British pointed out in The
Patriot how the militia was front and center of the troops. What the British didn t know was that
Morgan also had many more troops behind them. Each line of troops was spread about 150 yards
away from each other and had a larger number of troops who were more trained the further it went
back. Martin had a similar setup going on in the film. Martin and Morgan had the ones on the
frontlines to open fire at the last minute aiming for the officers. They would have to fire two shots,
then run back to the next line of troops. The British, in turn, would chase after them. Then the next
line would do the same thing and go to the back of the main line to form up together. Tarleton s

Introduction The following report establishes the buying habits of the customers and determines what
motivates them to come to our business. From research done elsewhere, it was noted that the age as
well as the income level are major determinants of the buying habits of customers. In order to
establish whether this really applies to our business as well, a survey was sent to a sample of 200 of
our customers. The customers were asked to give their age and level of income only and they were
rewarded with a gift card of $25 towards their next purchase. The response rate 62 percent (124 out of
the 200 customers responded) and makes a good sample of customers that can be used in the statistical
analysis of the customers? buying habits. The statistical analysis will involve the development and
examination of the frequency distribution (histogram) chart, the probability distribution graph, the
skewness of the histogram and the kurtosis of the histogram.

All Quiet On The Western Front Comradeship Analysis
We all share the same fear and the same life;we are nearer than lovers, in a simpler, a harder way;I
could bury my face in them, in these voices, these words that have saved me and will stand by me .
Comradeship is vital in war, because it keeps soldiers human. The theme of comradeship in All Quiet
on the Western Front is embraced when the soldiers rescue each other during battle, stick together and
not become separated, and keep each other s spirits up in the darkest of days.
Soldiers rescuing each other during battle shows comradeship. While fighting on the front line, Paul
becomes separated from his comrades and cannot search for them for fear of being shot down. It is
Kat and Albert who have come out with a stretcher to look for me, (Remarque 227). Paul s friends
coming to search for him shows comradeship because they are being brave and risking their lives to
find their friend. Going out to look for Paul shows that they care about and value him. During a
bombardment, new recruits are traumatized, scared, and helpless because they do not know what to
do, so veterans quickly teach them. We teach them to fling themselves into holes as quick as
lightning... (Remarque 134). The soldiers try to help each other during battle, which displays
comradeship because veterans want to help them live. They aren t doing this to have bodies to fight,
but to save human souls. Comradeship is embraced by soldiers rescuing and teaching each other
during war.
Comradeship is also shown when

Summary Of A History Of The World In 6 Glasses
Every day we drink beverages without even stopping to think of the influence they have, in A History
of the World in 6 Glasses Tom Standage explores the idea that not only do beverages have an impact
on our diet they have shaped the world we know today. The book takes you through world history
chronologically and relates each time period to a different drink. The 6 drinks or glasses as referred to
in the title are beer, wine, spirits, coffee, tea, and cola. Beer corresponds with the agricultural
revolution in Egypt and Mesopotamia, wine corresponds to the age of enlightenment in Greece and
Rome, etc. While many of us consider learning about history through our diet a little strange, Tom
Standage has another book entitled An Edible History of Humanity which explored a similar concept.
I believe that while the book contains many interesting parallels between beverages and how mankind
has developed, it doesn t continue to hold your attention and in the end feels more like a textbook.

A great example that has already been previously stated was the use of wine in the Roman social

interesting to hear the things textbooks reference put into the frame of beverages, such as taxation
without representation was tied to the American desire for more spirits because of the tax on molasses.
The best example is how wine in Greek culture was shared out of a communal vase. I have already

of the mostly black vases with the intricate red orange designs on them. This is the type of vase that

Permeability Of Red Blood Cells
All living organisms are composed of cells. Cells maintain their structure due to their cell membrane.
These membranes are selectively permeable which means that the cell membrane regulates the type
and the amount of substances that are able to enter the cell (Reece et al., 2014). The cell membrane is
a very complex structure that allows the cell to perform the basic functions that are necessary for life.
The cell membrane is selectively permeable because of its structure. Cell membranes are composed of
a phospholipid bilayer. These lipids are amphipathic meaning that they contain both a hydrophilic
(attracted to water) and hydrophobic (repelled by water) region. The cell membrane maintains its
structure by orienting itself so the hydrophilic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before conducting the experiment, the predicted results were methanol would lyse first, followed by
ethanol, ethylene glycerol, ammonium chloride, and ammonium acetate. Glucose, sucrose, sodium
chloride, potassium chloride, glycine, and sodium acetate were not predicted to lyse at all. Sodium
acetate, potassium chloride, and sodium chloride are all extremely polar molecules. As a result they
did not travel through the cell membrane, and no lysing occurred. This further supports the
spectrophotometry and microscopy experiments where sodium chloride was used as a control. Sucrose
and glucose are also extremely large polar sugar molecules, and as a result did not lyse the cell.
Methanol, ethanol, ethylene glycerol, and glycerol are all alcohols; they are relatively small and
nonpolar. They were incredibly permeable to the cell membrane, and their rate of permeability was
based on their molecular weight. Methanol had the smallest molecular weight and lysed the red blood
cells fasted. Ethanol was the next smallest, followed by ethylene glycerol, and glycerol. Ammonium
acetate and ammonium chloride both lysed faster than glycerol because in an aqueous solution the
ammonium loses a hydrogen to become ammonia, which causes the molecule to no longer be polar.
As a result, the molecule is able to travel through the cell

Disadvantages Of Narcissism
As they were in middle class, which was higher class than what my siblings and I were at, I wondered
if this would apply to them. With my experience, I believe it would since they were of higher class
than us and those narcissists would be boastful about accomplishments and possessions. Here, some
readers may be saying that social class does not necessarily cause one to be narcissistic. I am not
saying that not all those of higher class are narcissists, but rather that it can put them for a higher risk
of becoming narcissistic. Other factors, such as social media and parenting, could also contribute to
one becoming narcissistic. Going along with the factor of parenting, the question of how that family
would behave with each other had come up. I have already seen how they could treat others outside of
their family, whether it be to put on a different face before their true colors leek out after getting to
know them. From what I have seen and heard, they tend to have a golden child and a sort of
scapegoat. In the article, The Strength of the Scapegoat in the Narcissist Family, Julie Hall, a
contributing writer for the Huffington Post, describes a scapegoat as ...the narcissist s go to projection

generated an estimated 45,000 tons of waste that is expected to remain radioactive for more than
200,000 years (Onion, 2016). And right now, the waste, which emits radioactive particles that can eat
away at human tissue and organs, is being stored in tanks or concrete and steel bunkers at sites that
were only meant to contain the waste for perhaps decades, not centuries. Spent fuel is now stored in
pools and dry casks, says Rodney Ewing, a professor in nuclear engineering at the University of
Michigan. Today it s safe. But it s certainly not a long term solution (Ewing, 2015). ... Show more

Some argue the lack of a permanent, safe storage site for nuclear waste is reason enough to oppose
proposals in President Bush s energy plan to speed licensing of new nuclear power plants and extend
the operating licenses of existing plants. As Allison Macfarlane, a geologist and senior researcher at
the Massachusetts Institute of Technology says, Until we can figure out what to do with the waste, we
shouldn t make any more of it (Macfarlane, 2015). But those who tout the economic and
environmental benefits of nuclear energy argue a safe, permanent storage site has already been found
and only politics has prevented its opening. Others point to changing methods of nuclear power
generation that could ultimately reduce waste

The Freedom Writers And Erin Gruwell
The Freedom Writers Diary By: The Freedom Writers and Erin Gruwell
Genre: Nonfiction
Plot summary:
The first pages include a forward by Zlata Filipovic. She is a survivor from the war in Sarajevo, and
many call her the modern day Anne Frank . She talks about how the writers have affected her life, and
how they are an inspiration to many around the world. The students entries consist of how they do not
believe that Mrs. Gruwell will make it in their school. The students are deemed unteachable by the
school. Mrs. Gruwell, worked two jobs (one at a hotel and as a teacher) to provide books for her
students. The students read Zlata s diary and The Diary of Anne Frank . The class decides to do a
fundraiser, to get Zlata Filipovic and Miep ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mood:
The mood of this book is hopeful, because, it makes the reader feel as if they can change anything that
they don t agree with. In the book, the students spoke out about racism and they changed people s
views. They also spoke out about how they wanted to change their lifestyles, and become better
people. The book, Freedom Writers Diary has a mood of hopeful, because it makes you feel as if you
can do anything.
Tone:
Since there are many authors in Freedom Writers Diary , There are different tones to different entries.
One entry, when the author is talking about his friend getting shot, the tone is shocked, that his friend
was shot, and nobody seemed to care. In other chapters, like the one when a girl is talking about how
she will be the first in her family to go to college, the tone is excited. Throughout the book, the tone is
mostly reflective, because the authors are reflecting on their past choices.
Irony:
The only irony that is in this book, is when many students are saying that Mrs.Gruwell will not last
more than a few weeks, but she ends up lasting multiple years.
Imagery:
The imagery in this book, is when the Freedom Writers stand in a circle in Washington D.C, to
commemorate those who were lost to a shooting. There is also imagery when the students stand
outside of the school, due to some students being killed.
Symbolism:
The symbolism of having visitors, (Zlata and Miep) is that there will be something

The Reality Of Television Programs
Today s television programs are very different from the television programs that were shown over fifty
years ago. The shows in the past portrayed a modest conservative family. These families consist of a
hardworking man and a stay at home woman, married raising their own biological children. As the
years went by, television has started to portray a more liberal definition of what a family means in
today s world. Because of today s TV shows, there are different ideas about what a family should look
like.
Families on TV are not always a married couple containing one man and one woman raising their own
children. We now have many shows that support gay rights when it comes to marriage and being
parents. The hit comedy Modern Family has the funny loveable characters of Mitchell and Cameron.
They adopted a baby girl from Vietnam. The series also shows the wedding between the two men, as
well as the comical outcomes when they try to raise their daughter the best way possible. As Greg
Graffin wrote in his article Anarchy in the Tenth Grade It is also a shining example of how easy it is to
follow the party line and champion a bandwagon mentality which only motivates me to keep fighting
for originality. (3) This is seen on the show The Fosters , a girl named Callie is placed in a foster home
with a lesbian couple and their other adopted children. On this show the couple showed more love and
support than the previous foster homes she was placed in, that consisted of the usual

Relationship Between Layoffs And Voluntary Turnover
Relationship between Layoffs and Voluntary Turnover As the world accelerates in advancements such
as technology, the society is now capable of reaching greater heights in efficiency more than ever. The
benefit of efficiency is not wasting any limited resources and time; however, it is not much so when
business owners attempt to become more efficient by laying off their employees. In the business field,
this strategy is called downsizing and it reduces the number of employees to operate the business more
efficiently or especially during a crisis when the economy is unstable and the business cannot afford to
maintain the current number of employees. As more and more businesses utilize downsizing, the
question is, what is the impact on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Psychological Spillover. This implies that a layoff experience gives a looser tie to the subsequent
employment, which means that an individual feels psychological contract violations and amplified
feelings of distrust, job insecurity, and he or she pays a greater attention to external job opportunities.
These are all factors that can potentially lead to voluntary turnover. A psychological contract is the
reciprocal exchange agreement between employee and employing organization, as perceived by the
worker. A new employee has this general schema ( a set of expectations) of a psychological contract
between him and his employer and when he is laid off, it negatively impacts the same general schema
and it transfers over to his subsequent employment. Accordingly, once he starts working at his new
job, he has lower expectations and feels less obligated to the employer leading to an increased
likelihood of voluntary turnover. It is a similar situation with the other factors. When an individual is
laid off and finds a new employment, he will start off with the corresponding trust and job security he
felt when he was laid off which was heavily brought down thus far, and he pays a greater attention to
external job opportunities because he does not trust nor feel a sturdy job security, therefore leading up

Ocean At The Lane
The Ocean at the End of the Lane is a fictional memoir written by Neil Gaiman. The story took place
in contemporary England. The protagonist, also the narrator, was a 7 year old boy who later became
friends with Lettie Hempstock. She was an older girl living at the end of the lane. The narrator and
Lettie Hempstock experienced a series of fascinating adventures. The antagonist, Ursula Monkton,
appeared to be a friendly and good looking nanny, actually tried to control the world. She was
revealed as a monster towards the end of the book. During the confrontation with Ursula, the narrator
saw enormous amounts of things that he had never seen before, and gained courage by stepping up to
dangers. However, Lettie was severely injured in a fight ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At first, he felt the chill inside his body when Lettie and him met her, and she claimed that he had the
rest of the incomplete way back. Later, he was caught and brought high in the air by Ursula which
frightened him so much that he screamed, shouted for help and tried to kick her with his legs. While
Ursula was ripped to shreds by alien vulture monsters, she was right in front of him. In the following
attack from the cleaners , Lettie left him alone in a green circle, and he said that I have never been as
frightened as I was. All of these horrible memories would shadow him forever for its strong impact on
him as a child. Thus his encounter with Ursula Monkton would never truly come to an end, never
reach a psychological closure. Lettie was killed by the vultures and slept in the ocean forever. The
protagonists memories faded away over time, but as soon as he visited the Hempstock house, he
recalled them all. These memories have been astonishing and unique to him because of the
catastrophic nature of them, and they have changed him as a person.
The Ocean at the End of the Lane was a story about fear and courage. The narrator was greatly
influenced by Lettie and their friendship, the journeys he went on with her, and his fight with Ursula
Monkton. He changed from an innocent child to a mature adult at the age of 7, because he confronted
death, he was challenged by the horrifying Ursula and he made a true friend named Lettie. These
factors also shaped his characters to be more social and courageous. Memories would never be
forgotten by him because the experience has been a dramatic change of ways he view

The Labor Relations Act Of The Senate
Introduction Today s economic climate has lost and shed more jobs than ever. Organizations need
unions to survive and a process to keep them. Under the present conditions, unions need to embrace
revolutionary change. They need to experiment with innovative models and build on existing ones that
have already proven their value that works for workers, business, and overall society. Today s
Economic Climate with organizations that unions no longer survive in In the fall of 1934 Senator
Wagner introduced the National Labor Relations Act in the senate. On July 5, 1935, President Franklin
Roosevelt signed the National Labor Relations Act. This act was put into place to help unions survive,
under the section 7, it gave employees the right to form and join unions and it obligated employers to
bargain collectively with unions in a selective manner. Although, the future of organized labor in the
economy today looks grim, the unions will have to do whatever it takes to help keep contribute to a
healthy economy. They will have to do use whatever form it takes to help with the decline in private
unions as well. In the past decades, unions have stood to fall by the wayside, due to the contributing
factor of the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA). They do not adapt to external factors, such as
competition and productivity in the global economy. These factors are a problem for unionism by
themselves. The current state of the NLRA has magnified their effect.

Block Grants Advantages Giving states more power in terms of policy making, would improve new policies made from states and would allow state governments to make policies that pertain to what goes on in that state. Devolving power from the national government to state level helps provide a more localized outlook on political views and other issues. There are some issues with devolving power from national to state level such as adding more layers to government, which can complicate things. Many states use block grants, which provide funds to states without any discretion, the use of block grants also is a way of reducing federal control (We The People 96). The purpose for this act is to decrease the amount of pollution that we give off, and work towards making the air cleaner for everyone. Although progress has been made to lower pollution levels, it still is a threat to people s lives. A goal that was set in the year 1975 was going to try and achieve National Ambient Air Quality Standards in every state to keep people healthy. Clean Air Act programs has lowered at least six un harmful, and also decreased a number of harmful pollutants from the air. The decrease in air pollutants has resulted an increase in air quality, this has also resulted states to reach health standards placed by the Clean Air Act. Unfortunately, the pollution is still high and have caused some permanent damage to the ecosystem of plants and aquatic animals such as fish. With this character Wilde show s the reader that all nobles aren t perfect and can be more flawed than the average person, and portrayed was the fact that the rich and noble sometimes seem to abuse that position and end up in a deeper hole than most others. Then there is his Aunt Augusta, who is a very powerful character. Aunt Augusta in her own rights is the dominant persona in the play. She holds the cards and plays them at her own discretion. Her character reveals to the audience that in nobility there isn t just the man who controls things, but in many cases it is the female. She takes over the role of leader and makes for an interesting view on the female aspect of nobility, but however there is another aspect to female nobility, and that is inherent in Gwendolyn. She possesses all the attributes of, plain and simply, a snob. She has the beauty, the upbringing and the turned up nose of a noble. She symbolizes a part of nobility that most people will not talk about, but however Wilde does talk and better yet he reveals all of the little quirks of the noble class. In Gwendolyn is the part of the class where, nobility has turned from respect and prestige and into vanity. She has abused the prestige she has and turned into a vain quest to be looked upon and desired. It seems that the Victorian class had little class in the nobles, but ... Often, we hear others and ourselves say phrases like, Where has the time gone? Or, Where has my day gone to? With this exercise, I can now comprehend how I spend the majority of my time and figure out how to solve my not having enough time to do it all problem. At the end of the day, one does not have time to do everything, so we have to choose the important items on the list of to dos. But what do you eliminate and what do you keep? As I observe my time, I notice that the majority of my time was spent doing homework. Almost every day was spent doing class, maybe a workout like a bike ride or run, and homework. It was not until the weekend of the most recent week I had any time to watch a movie or just sit around a play on my phone. Of course I did do activities that were purely for my pleasure, such as phone calls, practice, long dinner time with friends, make new microwave creations with my roomie. These events, however, are also very important. Social life is what keeps us from losing our mind. If I did homework at every meal, I would not make new friends nor connect and catch up with my old ones. As humans, we need relationships to help keep us accountable in our walk with God, in our academics and to share with. Jesus had his friends while He walked on earth, just like we need friends. This is the reason we have D groups and accountability partners. This is why it is important not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Harry Potter And The Chronicles Of Narnia Growing up everyone is forced to read. First, children start by being read to by their parents and then slowly over time and learning, read for themselves. Children usually at this point either quit reading all together or continue to endure and learn into classical readings such as: Harry Potter, or The Chronicles of Narnia. Kids who go through school are forced to read to increase their comprehension skills, and the ones who read on their own outside of school as well, usually have an increased score than others. Mostly people who do not read on their own have trouble connecting with the books or reading that they try. They seem to not be able to stay focused on the book, and easily become distracted with other things. Growing up I was a kid like this. I still to this day struggle with not becoming distracted with other things while I am trying to read. I always start with good intentions and then halfway down any certain page, I find myself daydreaming about something random like what I had for dinner the night before. I always had this problem, until now. During this summer literature course I have had a new inspiration for reading. • 7. Fun Facts About Football History Abstract: Hey you guys and girls, today we will be discussing the things that I love to talk about the most, the game of football its history. Throughout this essay we will be hitting on the following topics: three fun facts about football; who deserved the game of football and how; who was the first four players to diversify the game of football; Who were the first colleges to pick up the game of football; a visual and results of survey in with I conducted by asking mi classmates five random questions about the game of football; and finally what makes the game better and/ or worse than it is today. From the early ages in history to the present day, the game of football has always been an important part of society. In a way It teaches its players things like: self discipline, how to be a team player, how to interact with others and it s also a good source of physical activity. Throughout history the game itself has changed; from the first rounded ball that was to throw, to the modern prolate spheroid shaped ball of today that is air dynamic and easier to throw (how it s made). But hears the biggies question, is the game of football better now than it was in in its prime. I would say my reason for picking this topic, would be because most people like me love the game football, but there are some who love the game as well, but don t know or keep up with the changes rule and/ or polices. ... She had the jaw dropping ability to touch the hearts of millions around the world with her heart wrenching story swirling within the pages of her diary. She wrote down all her feelings in her little red checkered diary with the hopes of living to see it published and red by little children all over the world. Unfortunately, only half of that statement is true. Reading Anne Frank s diary is a truly mind opening experience, and a plethora can be learned from it. Reading the play and watching the movie has given me some topics to say about her life and experience. Reading Anne s diary has affected me in quite of bit of ways. It s like seeing a glimpse into her life, her feelings, how she was treated by her family, and how she interacted with the rest of the people staying at the Annex. She was very creative and bright, and a funny light hearted character. She personally made me want to appreciate the little things in life a lot more, and to appreciate what I have. Because who knows? Someday you could be swept up in a war that has nothing to do with you, except for you religion. I was also stuck with a crushing depressed feeling deep in my chest, knowing this girl who wasn t much older then me died before she could see her dreams take flight. The sixties consisted of rights for racial minorities to be involved in the mainstream of the American lifestyle. However, unsolved issues of urban poverty still existed. Women in the 1960s established a conversion in women s status, for instance, women entered the paid workforce. America experienced a growth of conservative movements, consequently, the 1960s would confront judgment for social ill, crime and drug abuse and drug abuse as well as decline respect towards authority. In despite of crisis, America became a tolerant nation. The sixties are known as a decade of drastic change, rebellion, and backlash. Also, for the American individuals that came of age during the sixties, the generation known as the Baby Boomers, wanted to change the culture of their parents. Terry Anderson and Peter Clecak both present different judgment of the social activism of the 1960s. Terry H. Anderson, from the The Sea Change, implied that the sixties achieved a positive transformation within politics, society culture, and foreign power. Anderson believed that America became more democratic as well as comprehensive. • 10. Comparing Dante Alighieri s Inferno And The Faerie Queene Both Dante Alighieri s Inferno and Edmund Spenser s The Faerie Queene depict wooded forests wrought with transformed men as trees. In the Inferno and The Faerie Queene an existential conundrum of compromised identities leaves Pier della Vigne and Fraudubio sans human choice. Dehumanized and disfigured, the individuals that comprise the trees still retain human qualities like talking, breathing, and, even, bleeding under certain circumstances. Within each space, whether it is considered a definite locus amoenus or a locus horribilis, the most significant human attribute to which these trees cling is bleeding and thus they have a small handful of feelings and emotions still within each of them. Instead of their ripped branches symbolizing death and decay, the breaking of the branches within Inferno 13 and The Faerie Queene 1.2, give the trees life as if nothing has changed. While the bleeding infers a loss of identity in both, redeemable only for one of the two, it also lets their stories be told. Their stories, sad in nature, have redemptive qualities and move the two pilgrims that listen to their doleful tales. The Inferno illustrates the journey of Dante the pilgrim as he travels through the nine circles of Hell wherein each circle objectifies a specific sin like lust, gluttony, greed or violence; there the sinners endure eternal punishment. In the seventh circle, the circle of violence, Dante interacts with the suicides and profligates. Condemned to live eternally as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout time, we have used art pieces such as stories, mythology, paintings and movies as a way of conflict, to get a point across, or to tell a story. A big theme presented over time has been the ideologies of women and their role. Through time, we are able to see the way in which the roles of a female has been continuously constructed and reconstructed over and over again. These characteristics are even present in the story of Adam and Eve. In fact, characteristics drawn from biblical contexts seem to be very prominent. It is through these images of a woman that first create these gender stereotypes. As we go on, it will be seen that different pieces of work allow maintaining and further reinforcing the stereotype of the femme fatale. The story of Adam and Eve is perhaps the first example of a femme fatale. Eve the first woman on earth, created from a man s rib as a gift to Adam from god. Eve sought the Tree of Knowledge and as the story goes, bit into the apple in the Garden of Eden, letting all evil into the world. Eve brought about the fall of mankind and introduced things such as sin and death. She was tempted by the serpent and further, tempts Adam with her beauty and sexuality to bite the apple thus being the classic example of a femme fatale. Another popular example is taken from Jewish tradition. The very popular Lilith is also associated with the first version of creation. Estimated at 1025 1594 BCB Lilith was Adams first wife. God is said to have created Lilith from clay, not from a mans rib, thus being equal to man. The story goes as Lilith shows up as a naked lady to seduce husbands who otherwise are reasonable husbands. Lilith s name is associated with being related to a dark deity, ex goddess, ancient demon, and even a vampire throughout time. One thing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Over the course of the semester we learned various techniques to engage with the audience and to keep them focused. For example, asking the audience questions either during or after your presentation can be a good way to make the audience feel involved. Asking for volunteers is another way to make your audience feel important. These were some techniques that I liked to use during my presentations. I used both of these techniques specifically during my informative speech about Parcheesi. One reason that I think the audience was the most engaged during my informative speech is because it was a new topic for most of them. • 16. The Wise Sea Poem Analysis The Wise Men Speak (An Analysis on Sailing) William Butler Yeats, was a poet from the Victorian age. Philosophers say that Yeats was one of the greatest poets of all time, William Butler Yeats is widely considered to be one of the greatest poets of the 20th century (Adams). One of Yeats most famous poem was Sailing to Byzantium. In the poem Sailing, Yeats expresses three very important messages. The messages that Yeats expresses in Sailing are, that the soul wants to leave body when it s about time to go, the elders are more wise, and that younger generation doesn t listen to their elders. In the poem Sailing, Yeats expresses that as our body ages our souls are ready to be set free. Our souls never age, but our bodies do. As our bodies start to age our souls are ready to be set free from our aging bodies. Yeats states that when our souls are close to being set free they start to sing, Soul clap its hands and sing, louder sing (11). The soul is celebrating that it s about to be set free from its aging body. Our bodies are dead, but our souls continue to live on. Dr. Duncan MacDougall of Haverhill, Massachusetts states, Human beings are possessed of souls which depart their bodies after death and that these souls have detectable physical presences were around well before the 20th century . • 17. Gender Roles Of Women And Women Gender is one of the greatest factors that can determine how we define ourselves and others. Although gender is determined at birth for many, it does not influence one s identity of self until a later age. How society views the roles of each gender influences how a person views themselves. As the views changes, so does one s identity. In the past, the roles of men and women were defined and separated. Men were expected to provide income for the family, while women were expected to take care of the home. Doing things outside these roles caused negative reactions from the community and frowned upon. Today, there is still a difference between men and women, but a lot of the roles have become acceptable for both. Within my culture, gender roles have generally been set and defined to conform to preexisting traditions. Men were viewed as strong and the bread earner and women were weak, unintelligent family care takers. To this day, I feel this notion still exists in the contemporary society due to the deep seated nature of Confucianism in the Chinese culture. Even in Chinese school, we were assigned gender roles and taught proverbial stories instilled with concepts regarding women s inferiority and subordination to men by nature. These gender constructs were enforced beyond childhood and some of my Chinese classes even imposed gender specific behavioral conventions. Many of my textbooks would mainly revolve around male characters as opposed to female characters and there were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Theme Of Sensory Evidence In The Duchess Of Malfi The Duchess of Malfi by John Webster is a tragic play, which deals with love, power, and madness. The madness derives from the use of sensory evidence. In many cases, Webster uses sensory evidence to push his characters to the limit of their own mind. The concept of sensory experience is a way to grab your readers attention while using the five senses to do so. Webster employs this concept in ways that progress the plot. However, it causes much trouble for most of the characters, especially The Duchess herself. Although there could be many factors that affect the death of the Duchess, the use of the sensory experience is the most evident. We can easily observe this by her marriage to Antonio, her relationship with Bosola, and her problems with Ferdinand. To begin, a crucial conversation shapes the course of the play in a subtle but immense way. In Act 1, scene 3, The Cardinal and Ferdinand insist that The Duchess does not remarry after the death of her husband. However, they are not aware that the Duchess is planning on marrying Antonio, her old steward. The following citation shows Ferdinand s thought of those who remarry. Marry! They are most luxurious/will wed twice. (John Webster, Act 1, scene 3, line 6 7) His comment uses the word Luxurious which means lecherous. • 29. Patriot Movie Vs History Movies are a brilliant way to immerse yourself into a wonderful story, full of well developed, interesting (well, there have been some exceptions) characters. People in the film industry work hard to come up with a plot line that can draw in many viewers. There are not only movies that are created as a work of fantasy, but also ones that are inspired by real events that has transpired. Many have been based on historical events that we learned in history class. Yes, a movie might be able to teach you a thing or two about the past. What better way to learn history, right? Unfortunately, the ones making the film don t always portray the most accurate of content relating to history. It is a movie; not a documentary. The Patriot is one of those ... Benjamin criticised on how Gates led his troops. It was on August 16 when this battle took place. General Horatio Gates lost to Cornwallis s army in the movie and in history. The final battle of the film was based on the Battle of Cowpens and the Battle of Guilford Courthouse. The Battle of Guilford Courthouse has less similarities to the end battle of the movie than the Battle of Cowpens. On January 16, 1781, Daniel Morgan took charge of the militia at the Battle of Cowpens. Instead of Morgan in this battle, we have Benjamin Martin taking the spotlight. Morgan knew that militia might try to retreat, so he made it to where they cannot run. Behind him and the men was the Broad River, which cut off an escape route. This made it so the militia would have to choose to fight or die. The battle in the movie did not show any kind of river around the area. Morgan put his rawest militiamen in the front line, backing them up with seasoned men from Virginia and his veteran Continental troops (Phillips). Even the British pointed out in The Patriot how the militia was front and center of the troops. What the British didn t know was that Morgan also had many more troops behind them. Each line of troops was spread about 150 yards away from each other and had a larger number of troops who were more trained the further it went back. Martin had a similar setup going on in the film. Martin and Morgan had the ones on the frontlines to open fire at the last minute aiming for the officers. They would have to fire two shots, then run back to the next line of troops. The British, in turn, would chase after them. Then the next line would do the same thing and go to the back of the main line to form up together. Tarleton s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

All Quiet On The Western Front Comradeship Analysis We all share the same fear and the same life;we are nearer than lovers, in a simpler, a harder way;I could bury my face in them, in these voices, these words that have saved me and will stand by me . Comradeship is vital in war, because it keeps soldiers human. The theme of comradeship in All Quiet on the Western Front is embraced when the soldiers rescue each other during battle, stick together and not become separated, and keep each other s spirits up in the darkest of days. Soldiers rescuing each other during battle shows comradeship. While fighting on the front line, Paul becomes separated from his comrades and cannot search for them for fear of being shot down. It is Kat and Albert who have come out with a stretcher to look for me, (Remarque 227). Paul s friends coming to search for him shows comradeship because they are being brave and risking their lives to find their friend. Going out to look for Paul shows that they care about and value him. During a bombardment, new recruits are traumatized, scared, and helpless because they do not know what to do, so veterans quickly teach them. We teach them to fling themselves into holes as quick as lightning... (Remarque 134). The soldiers try to help each other during battle, which displays comradeship because veterans want to help them live. They aren t doing this to have bodies to fight, but to save human souls. Summary Of A History Of The World In 6 Glasses Every day we drink beverages without even stopping to think of the influence they have, in A History of the World in 6 Glasses Tom Standage explores the idea that not only do beverages have an impact on our diet they have shaped the world we know today. The book takes you through world history chronologically and relates each time period to a different drink. The 6 drinks or glasses as referred to in the title are beer, wine, spirits, coffee, tea, and cola. Beer corresponds with the agricultural revolution in Egypt and Mesopotamia, wine corresponds to the age of enlightenment in Greece and Rome, etc. While many of us consider learning about history through our diet a little strange, Tom Standage has another book entitled An Edible History of Humanity which explored a similar concept. I believe that while the book contains many interesting parallels between beverages and how mankind has developed, it doesn t continue to hold your attention and in the end feels more like a textbook. These membranes are selectively permeable which means that the cell membrane regulates the type and the amount of substances that are able to enter the cell (Reece et al., 2014). The cell membrane is a very complex structure that allows the cell to perform the basic functions that are necessary for life. The cell membrane is selectively permeable because of its structure. Cell membranes are composed of a phospholipid bilayer. These lipids are amphipathic meaning that they contain both a hydrophilic (attracted to water) and hydrophobic (repelled by water) region. Glucose, sucrose, sodium chloride, potassium chloride, glycine, and sodium acetate were not predicted to lyse at all. Sodium acetate, potassium chloride, and sodium chloride are all extremely polar molecules. As a result they did not travel through the cell membrane, and no lysing occurred. This further supports the spectrophotometry and microscopy experiments where sodium chloride was used as a control. Sucrose and glucose are also extremely large polar sugar molecules, and as a result did not lyse the cell. Methanol, ethanol, ethylene glycerol, and glycerol are all alcohols; they are relatively small and nonpolar. They were incredibly permeable to the cell membrane, and their rate of permeability was based on their molecular weight. Methanol had the smallest molecular weight and lysed the red blood cells fasted. Ethanol was the next smallest, followed by ethylene glycerol, and glycerol. Ammonium acetate and ammonium chloride both lysed faster than glycerol because in an aqueous solution the ammonium loses a hydrogen to become ammonia, which causes the molecule to no longer be polar. With my experience, I believe it would since they were of higher class than us and those narcissists would be boastful about accomplishments and possessions. Here, some readers may be saying that social class does not necessarily cause one to be narcissistic. I am not saying that not all those of higher class are narcissists, but rather that it can put them for a higher risk of becoming narcissistic. Other factors, such as social media and parenting, could also contribute to one becoming narcissistic. So far the 103 operating nuclear reactors in the United States have generated an estimated 45,000 tons of waste that is expected to remain radioactive for more than 200,000 years (Onion, 2016). And right now, the waste, which emits radioactive particles that can eat away at human tissue and organs, is being stored in tanks or concrete and steel bunkers at sites that were only meant to contain the waste for perhaps decades, not centuries. The shows in the past portrayed a modest conservative family. These families consist of a hardworking man and a stay at home woman, married raising their own biological children. As the years went by, television has started to portray a more liberal definition of what a family means in today s world. Because of today s TV shows, there are different ideas about what a family should look like. Families on TV are not always a married couple containing one man and one woman raising their own children. We now have many shows that support gay rights when it comes to marriage and being parents. The series also shows the wedding between the two men, as well as the comical outcomes when they try to raise their daughter the best way possible. This implies that a layoff experience gives a looser tie to the subsequent employment, which means that an individual feels psychological contract violations and amplified feelings of distrust, job insecurity, and he or she pays a greater attention to external job opportunities. A psychological contract is the reciprocal exchange agreement between employee and employing organization, as perceived by the worker. A new employee has this general schema ( a set of expectations) of a psychological contract between him and his employer and when he is laid off, it negatively impacts the same general schema and it transfers over to his subsequent employment. Accordingly, once he starts working at his new job, he has lower expectations and feels less obligated to the employer leading to an increased likelihood of voluntary turnover. It is a similar situation with the other factors. When an individual is laid off and finds a new employment, he will start off with the corresponding trust and job security he felt when he was laid off which was heavily brought down thus far, and he pays a greater attention to external job opportunities because he does not trust nor feel a sturdy job security, therefore leading up to an ...
