African Colonialism And Its Effects On Africa
In the 1800 s countries were in search for land to expand their country into, this happened to many
places including Africa. Colonialism was a time when countries took control of another land, which
they then governed through direct or indirect rule depending on the country. During this time,
Africa was most sought after due to its resources and its uninhabited land. Due to this, all colonial
powers scrambled to get their hands on a piece of Africain order to expand their areas of rule. As a
result of the scramble for Africa the Berlin Conference was held. At this conference
representatives from fourteen countries came together to divide up Africa s land (Africans had no
say in the matter, however). With colonial powers now in control, not everyone was pleased
seeing as the governing country was only using them for natural resources and economic gain,
which of course caused resistance with people refusing to assimilate to the colonial power.
Eventually, anti colonial movements sprung up and they did whatever they could to try and regain
their right to self rule. This ultimately led to boycotts, strikes, the formation of unions and political
parties just to regain independence. Independence was a struggle that happened in many ways,
such as violence and agreement as shown in Swaziland s case. Swaziland has a particularly special
story of colonialism, due to the fact that they started out just asking for some support.
Swaziland s journey toward colonialism started in the

Confidentiality, integrity and availability, also known as the CIA triad. It is a model which is

improvements in the authentication procedures or algorithms has made this kind of attack

Oliver Vandal Essay
The person to create that distance in a family often makes more rational decisions, as they figure
there is nothing left going for them. Oliver Vandal is that family man that has over five kids, a
minimum wage job, an ill humored wife and a haunting past. Ever since Oliver almost hit his wife
Sara Vandal before Sara Vogt with his taxi, it was assumed that their marriage
was going to be rough
at times. After the taxi encounter, being the gentleman he is, Oliver offered to drive Sara to her
destination. As they were talking Sara came to the realization that she enjoyed his company, how he
treated her like an intelligent womanand not a little girl, and how he carried himself as a person;
respectable and open minded. After a one night stand, Sara became pregnant with Oliver s daughter

Seneca Falls Declartion of Sentiments
ENG 2004Elizabeth Hart September 2, 2010 Reading Response #1 Seneca Falls Declaration of
Sentiments 1. Title: The title relates to the section, because it resembles the three part structure of
the Declaration of Independence. The section was written in Seneca Falls at a women s rights
convention. The title also declares that the piece will be a set of sentiments, thoughts prompted by
feelings. 2. Author s Life: The women, Mott, Wright, McClintrock, and Stanton, who wrote the

that slaves, Indians, and Mexicans should hold the same rights as the American people receive

The Family Fang Analysis
In the words of renowned artist Pablo Picasso, the purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life
off our souls . Art can be interpreted in many ways by those who view it, it can take many forms
and its purpose is not always clear. The way art is defined is just as broad. The Merriam Webster
dictionary defines it as a branch of learning , an occupation requiring knowledge or skill or as the
conscious use of skill and creative imagination . This definition can also be widened to include a
branch of art known as performance art, where art is performed and experience live by an audience.
So, a legitimate question that is asked is what is arts purpose? Kevin Wilson s The Family Fang is
a novel that explores the life of a family dedicated... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The early 1970 s, the period in which both pieces were preformed, saw the United States engaged
in a violent conflict in Vietnam with protests and demonstrations sometimes being put down
with force. Political unrest was visible especially among young artists. These young artists were
at the center of this resistance and used their art to make their views known. The work in the
novel has the added nuance of actually taking place on a university campus. Author Kathy O
Dell remarks that she knew that the Vietnam War was one of the reasons Burden pushed himself
to such physical and phycological limits (O Dell xii) in his performances. In the novel, Caleb
and Hobart seem concerned most of all with creating art that is noteworthy and meaningful
(Wilson 186). One of the most noteworthily things that can be done with their art is to create
something with a political message behind it. In the novel, this message is not explicitly stated,
it is more clear in the real life version of the act. In 2005, Burden explained certain aspects of his
original 1971 performance. He says all of a sudden U.S. troops were shooting at protesting
students... all of a sudden it [the violence] ... took on another dimension . He took the social unrest
and unease he saw around him and used his art as a platform to start a conversation around the war
in Vietnam and the prevalence of violence in general. These

1.Joe has schizoid personality disorder. Like many with schizoid personality, Jose does not seem
inclined to feel the need to interact with people. It is not because of paranoia, but because these
people genuinely like to be alone and don t show many emotions. To help Joe one could
recommend cognitive behavioral and group therapy. Cognitive side of the therapy would consist
of talking to Jose about his feelings. Especially focusing on any positive feelings that he can
remember. The behavioral part would be teaching Jose social skills by role playing or exposure
techniques.

destructive behavior. These impulses lead her to rash decisions like drunk driving and sleeping

Waugh considered the opinion of his neighbor regarding the box as the vision of a thing which
is not present at all. In the same way, Gilbert thinks that BBC correspondent angel (object of
many of his paranoid fantasies) is utilizing The Box so as to send various voices to his office or
cabin present on the ship as per the waugh s work. These voices are just the imagination of Gilbert.
Because, the voices get stopped when he avoids to take drugs and returns from the ship to England.
Thus, the voices coming to his office are completely imaginary.
The Box has some religious significance in.regards with the old testament, The box is the ark of
the covenant containing words said by the God. Moreover, these words are related to the judaeo
christian. These small boxes containing the scrolls on which words of God are written is used
by the Orthodox Jews. In this way, The Box is a religious thing and Pinfold believed that it is
negative thing which is used by BBC correspondence so as to send the voices into his cabin on the
ship.On the other hand, Some colleagues of the pinfold think that the Gilbert Pinfold is Jewish by
religion. So, It is noticeable that Gilbert Pinfold had all the negative thoughts about the box and it is
only the result of overdosage taken by him.
The intercommunication amongst the devil and God can be easily portrayed on the basis of
supernatural aspects talking via the physical ones. From a religious point of view, there is a fine line

Mesopotamia, located between Euphrates and Tigris river, influenced Egyptcivilizationgreatly, as
they were close in location. Because they could interact easily with each other, trading flourished,

Examples Of The Original Bourne Trilogy
I am using the example of the original Bourne Trilogy, more specifically the first movie, the Bourne
Identity. At the very start of the movie Jason Bourne, the protagonist, is shot in the head and almost
drowns. Then when he recovers he remembers nothing from his past. This is most likely an
example of retrograde amnesiadue to damage to temporal lobes and the hippocampus. This can
cause loss of memories, but retention of specific motor skills and instincts. Later this is shown true
as the movie progresses and Bourne has amazing skills in combat, driving, and speaking multiple
languages. These actions are examples of procedural memory, which are commonly kept for victims
of amnesia. Bourne s past is completely unknown to himself, but later

I shall now be looking at the novel its self and certain gothic passages in the novel with reference
to Edgar
Alan Poe s The Fall of the House of Usher . The story is about a young man in his early twenties
and how he sells his soul to the devil for eternal youth and beauty. When he does this the newly
painted self portrait of himself ages instead of him, this then allows him to explore his greatest
fancies and not worry about his soul and the repercussions it shall have upon his friends nor his
soul. This already shows signs of the gothic genre, as he is able to become completely free. In the
end it destroys him and he dies. In Chapter 16
Oscar Wilde writes about how Dorian Gray visits opium dens. The opium dens almost take Dorian
Gray out of reality and into the dream world.
On page 177 Oscar Wilde writes an amazing line that is very gothic ...the streets like the black
web of some sprawling spider. The monotony became unbearable, and as the mist thickened, he
felt afraid. This is just like how The Fall of the House of Usher describes the house that the
Usher family live in you can find this in the first two paragraphs of the story. When we first meet
Dorian Gray he is a young naive boy untouched by the world but the day he meets Lord Henry, the
extremely illogical, destructive and selfish friend of Basil Hallward,
Lord Henry says something that changes Dorian Gray s life forever.

Far in the remote western African jungles of Cameroon, Dr. Beatrice

droppings. Members of the great ape family, chimpanzees typically travel in groups of  to

again to sleep in trees at night. Communities lack a definite leader and are usually split into a

The team was interested in tracing the evolution of hiv (human immunodeficiency virus) to
investigate the origins of hiv/aids. There is a simian virus known as siv (simian
immunodeficiency virus) that is closely related to hiv and has been found in  species
of African primates, ranging from various species of monkey (e.g., Blue monkey, L Hoest monkey)
to mangabeys (e.g., red capped mangabey), colobus, baboons, mandrills, and chimpanzees.
Both hiv and siv are considered to be retroviruses, containing rna instead of dna as their genetic
material.
Because the virus must insert its genetic material into a host cell to take over that host cell, a
retrovirus has to convert its rna back into dna form. Only after this backstep (hence the term retro )
occurs, can the virus successfully insert its genetic material (now in dna form) into the host s dna.
rna is slightly different from dna. rna contains only one genetic strand, whereas dna is a doubly
stranded molecule. In addition, the sugars of these molecules are slightly different. dna contains
the sugar deoxyribose while rna contains the sugar ribose. In both cases, the sugars act as the
backbone for the molecule and provide a place for the bases to attach. The bases determine the
order of amino acids and thus

Around 8:00 am the next morning, my mother and I headed down the stairs descending from the

owners. When we reached the patio, we were taken aback by the delightful setting. We lounged in
rocking chairs facing the lake, small mugs of hot coffee in hand, and soaked up the rays of the
morning sun as we took in the beautiful view for the last time. Minutes later, the owner of the bed

Maybe it was the quirky names listed on the small planks of wood or the vivid colors used to

be beautiful and we wanted to remember it forever. Our first official stop of the day was actually
a town named Mooresville. Mooresville was a very petite town, so much so it was more of a
neighborhood, which was known for its history. We began our experience by visiting a tiny cafe
located on the main street of the town. The establishment was filled with antiques, artifacts and
art. Considering we had just eaten a very filling breakfast, we did not order any kind of
refreshments, instead walking through and glancing at the items while chatting with the barista.
After leaving the cafe, we began touring the rest of the area, first stopping to study the church I
had previously read about. Mostly, it was a simple church but acting as a steeple was a hand with
one finger extended, pointing towards the sky. The architect who constructed the plans for the
building added this special detail. His purpose for the symbol was to help lost souls find their way
to heaven. We then ended our experience of Mooresville by driving through several of the short
streets, admiring the ancient shacks that made the historical landmark so authentic. We had planned
to spend a larger expanse of time in Mooresville and then head to lunch after. Due to the meager size

Energy Debate in the Us
Nate Johnson
Professor Alvarez
ENG 300
15 July 2014
Rough Draft:
In the United States, a topic for debate is the energy crisis. The issue is that the United States
current, most widely used energy sources, fossil fuels, is harmful to the environment. So as to not
harm the environment, many people have made the switch to solar or wind energy, thinking that
as long as they don t use fossil fuels they are doing the environment a favor. However, no matter
the energy source for use on a large scale, it is going to have its own unique issues. There are a
number of energy alternatives within the United States. The two sides to the argument are
renewables, such as wind and solar energy (the two most popular) versus fossil fuels, such as ...

Solar panels are manufactured using NF3, or Nitrogen Triflouride, which is, according to UC
Irvine researchers, is one of the most potent greenhouse gases known and persists in the
atmosphere for 550 years. All this to say that just because solar panels may look attractive,
modern, and seem to have a small carbon footprint, it is not always the case. There is much more
than what meets the eye; it comes with strings attached such as the loss of hundred of species of
birds and insects as well as emitting a chemical that has 17,000 times stronger global warming
potential than carbon dioxide. A major rift in the food chain as well as a much stronger chemical

Wind turbines are becoming more and more popular across the flatlands of America. Along the
same lines as solar power plants in California, there are many issues with wind turbines. Wind
turbines are massive towers with a swinging blade that can create wind of up to 100 miles per

Major Argument Essay
Argument essay (Rough Draft)
Thousands of students graduate from high school each year in the United States. As they enter
college a new world of decisions opens up to them. The main one being; how should one choose
a major, based on potential financial gain or based on enjoyment? For the purposes of this paper
when speaking of potential financial gain I am referring to majors that will have some type of base
salary of at least 40k and enjoyment as majors that are in the fine arts. With so many different
options at so many different schools this is undoubtedly one of the most difficult decisions to make
due to the fact that a person s entire future will essentially be on the line. Nonetheless, when
choosing a major, the most rational thing for someone to do is to choose a major with potential
financial gain
Now yes there are many people who have found work in their fields when it comes to majors

My Sister Letter
It is difficult to even begin this letter, little sister, because I simply don t know where to start. We
have been through plenty of trials and tribulations and I know very well how mature you are for
your young age but there remain some pieces of the story that you don t know of. I am not here
to tell you of them, but there are some things that are impossible to understand without an
outside nudge, and I hope that in doing this you will come to accept the things I tell you, so that
when certain pieces come to light, you may look upon it without pain. People are not perfect.
People are not always kind. People are not always well intentioned. And the truth is: our parents
are people too. You know this because despite all that I have done in my attempts to shield you,
you have seen them upset. You have seen them weep. You have seen them scream. You have
watched our mother starving herself, disappear for hours at a time after haphazardly throwing
about words of death. You have watched our father shut down, sleep for days, become frustrated
at himself and at the world. You have sat with your brother and I in a police car as our father was
taken to prison, cried without understanding as our mother wept, hidden as we have hidden. You
were pulled into this world without wanting any of this, without knowing it, and only with our
brother and I to guide your confusion as you came into the middle of the crisis. The problem is
well, the problem is that since our parents are

George Berkeley Research Paper
George Berkeley (1685 1753) is a very famous 18th Century philosopher from Ireland. Berkeley
is most famous work was for coming up with the view point Esse Est Percipi , or to be is to be
perceived. Based on Berkeley s findings, an idea must be thought of or perceived in order to exist
at all. And if everything in the world (aside from minds) is made of ideas, then the existence of
things, depends on there being someone who perceives them. When you perceive a purple crayon,
according to many philosophers in the early modern period, you are in possession of a

Analysis Of The Movie The 1991 Beating Of Rodney King
The 1991 beating of Rodney King by Los Angeles police provides rich case material in how an
attack perceived as unjust can backfire. George H. W. Bush said, The last thing the leaders of
Los Angeles expected in the early 1990s was that their city would become the scene of the nation

Los Angeles race riots that occurred as a result of Rodney Kings arrest in 1991 exemplified the deep
tensions between black citizens and the policeforce which caused a change in police policy.
Rodney King at the age of twenty two was on parole for beating his girlfriend while she was
sleeping. King then went on to drag her outside the house and beat her again. King was charged
with battery and pleaded no contest. He was then placed on probation and ordered to obtain
counseling. He never got the counseling. Weeks pass and one day King enters a corner store

rack. King swung the rack at the clerk and fled the store with two hundred dollars. King was
arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, second degree robbery, and intent to
commit great bodily injury. In an agreement, King pleaded guilty to the robbery charge and the
other charges were dropped. He was sentenced to two years in prison,

Tomkey Family By David Sedaris
In the first few paragraphs of David Sedaris memoir, the author is forced to realize that some
people live different realities than he does. Upon learning that his new neighbors, the Tomkey
family, have very different views on modern technology than most of first world society, he grows
curious of them. The way the neighborhood reacts to this situation has a lot to say about how
society tolerates other opinions and beliefs. Observation of their reactions shows how they feel
more distant and uncomfortable towards the Tomkey family. David s own curiosity could be
explained by his new lifestyle change, considering the narrator transitioned from a very secluded
neighborhood to a much more cramped city lifestyle. When Sedaris learns that his new neighbors
were definitely much more diverse than his family, he begins to question their beliefs. He then
starts to spend a lot of time around their house. During nighttime, he gets much closer. By watching
the family through their window, he learns how the family acts during different activities
throughout the day. Eventually, Sedaris is able to observe the Tomkey children during school.

Essay on Value Systems and Successful Markets
Economic success defines a nations success in modern day society. Sure India has had a
prosperous past. But as we continue in this post colonial world, the need to prove ourselves has
only been higher. It has been over 60 years since we achieved independence and became a
republic, we are yet to prove our potential to the world. The world s parameter to determine our
capabilities are high, just as it ought to be to encourage each nation to develop to its fullest ability.
Competition generally helps nations to do better and achieve greater. When we first gained
independence much of the idea of development and being an economic super power was furthered

This idea in India became popular as it was to hope that it would strive to get rid of patronisation
that the colonial and the Mughal powers catered to.
Democracy was initiated in order to equate all citizens of this nation. We did this so that we had
a situation where each one had the equal opportunity to grow. When we have a democracy as
large as India, it is unthinkable to have corruption existing along its lines. The idea of democracy
was to guide us away from the sinking boat and lead us through the darkest nights. It was the
idea of emancipation that democracy brought within itself. But within the next couple of years,
democracy was yet to bring in any of its promised propositions. Instead the ugly face of the
opposite of democracy became popular yet again, that of patronage. We were back to square one;
we had not yet evolved from our dark past. We were still stuck in it. We were a corrupt nation that
allowed for deep inequality. Poverty and hunger continue to reel in the minds of our western counter
parts when they imagined India. The patronage policy was set forth with the rise of Indira Gandhi
in the late 1960 s and early 1970 s. It was a known fact that patronage would allow chief ministers
to gain a position of power in the cabinet or any other position at the centre. The shuffling and
change of chief ministers in the state of Maharashtra in the 1970 s and 80 s are a clear

Terrorism And Political Aspects Of Terrorism In The Media
One of the most spoken topics in the media today is terrorism besides any other type of violence.
What is terrorism, everyone has a different version in their dictionary. Some blame a whole
nation for terrorism, some blame a whole religious group for the actions of only a few. As we
know the word terror means extreme fear. A terrorist is someone who creates an atmosphere filled
with fear amongst the people that are there. They go against rules and ethics and do very disturbing
things which is called terrorism. Terrorism is the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, this
type of violence is used especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims. They kill
innocent people or government/state/or city officials who oppose their wants. The purpose of the
actions the terrorists have is to create an atmosphere of fear to suit their wants. Terrorists murder
and kidnap people, set off bombs, hijack airplanes, set fires, and commit other serious crimes. But
the goals of terrorists differ from those of ordinary criminals. Most criminals want money or some
other form of personal gain. Most terrorists commit crimes to support political causes. Features of
terrorism. Terrorist acts are committed for various reasons.
They often threaten to kill the hostages if their demands are not met. Some terrorism involves the
intentional release of toxic chemicals, poisons, or other harmful substances. Bombings makeup
about half of all terrorist acts. Terrorism may cross national

Fall Of Communism Essay
v The fall of communism in Poland also inspired the fall of communism throughout Eastern Europe
in 1989, in a period sometimes referred to as the Autumn of Nations (a play on the Springtime of
Nations used to describe the 1848 revolutions). Lech Walesa stated in an interview that he and the
Poles lost many battles along the way, but [they] peacefully won the war (qtd. in Morris). A similar,
drawn out process to defeat communismoccurred in other Eastern Bloc countries around this time.
Pope John Paul II once said the following: Freedom is not just something to have and to use, it is

Acid Base Imbalances Essay
Acid base imbalances that overcome the buffer system can be compensated in the short term by
changing the rate of ventilation. This alters the concentration of carbon dioxide in the blood,
shifting the above reaction according to Le Chatelier s principle, which in turn alters the pH. For
instance, if the bloodpH drops too low (acidemia), the body will compensate by increasing
breathing thereby expelling CO2, and shifting the above reaction to the left such that fewer
hydrogen ions are free; thus the pH will rise back to normal. For alkalemia, the opposite occurs.
The kidneys are slower to compensate, but renal physiology has several powerful mechanisms to
control pH by the excretion of excess acid or base. In response to acidosis, tubular ... Show more

The Role Of Women In The Great Gatsby
Over time, the views that society has of women has changed. Women are now viewed as having a
different purpose in life compared to during the 1900 s, they are able to work and do tasks other
than being a homemaker. Women have more choices now than they did in the 1900 s. The women
in My ГЃntonia and the women in The Great Gatsbyhave minimal choices about what they do in
life.
In The Great Gatsby, one of the main characters, Daisy, is presented with very little choicewith
what she can do with her life. Very early in the book, it is revealed that Tom, Daisy s husband is
cheating on her with another woman. Why she said hesitantly, Tom s got some woman in New
York. Got some woman? I repeated blankly. Miss Baker nodded. (Fitzgerald, 15). At this moment
in time, it is revealed that Tom is cheating on Daisy. Now, Daisy is left with three choices. She
could flirt with other men, continue to fight with Tom, or to leave Tom. Although she has three
choices, there is really only one viable option to stay with Tom. Continuing to fight or flirting
with other men would distract from the reality of the situation. However, she is scared to leave
Tom because of the consequences. If she were to leave him, she would have no money and she
would lose all of her friends. In addition, her child wouldn t have a father anymore. As a result,
she would be judged by her peers because of her economic status, and her new lifestyle without

has a major problem with illegal immigration. The reason the U.S. has a problem with illegal
immigration is because we have an administration and political party that allows it. The liberal
argument is that illegal immigrants contribute so much to our economy. But the truth is illegal
immigrants take more than they contribute. According to a study conducted by Federation for
American Immigration Reform (FAIR), in 2013, illegal immigrants cost U.S. tax payers $113
billion while only contributing $1.27 billion. The majority of the $1.27 billion was in sales
taxes from purchasing consumer products. $84 billion of the $112 was from state and local tax

compared to how much illegal immigrants were costing the state. One example is California.
California, facing a budget deficit of $14.4 billion in 2010 2011, is hit with an estimated $21.8

illegal immigrants are taking away blue collar and unskilled jobs from Americans, leaving many

of the overall foreign currency market second to the US Dollar and Euro pair. Conclusion The
foreign exchange market has seen considerable changes owing to the global financial crisis. It is to

Mickshi Tajiri Personality
Mr. Satoshi Tajiri is a Japanese video game designer well known as the creator of the multibillion
dollar franchise, PokГ©mon, as well as the founder of video game developer, Gamefreak. In
addition, Tajiri worked on several other video game projects that include Mario spin offs and The
Legend of Zelda. In this paper, I will describe Satoshi s personality based on Henry Murray s
system of needs involving achievement motivation. First, I will describe Murray s system of needs
and emphasize the importance of achievement motivation in detail. Next, I will explain the level
that Satoshi s personality traits align with a need for achievement using his history and his general
nature as examples. Then, I will interpret how Tajiri has demonstrated achievement motivation
through the success of his work. Finally, I will conclude how Satoshi Tajiris high level of
achievement motivation affects every aspect of his day to day life and how it influences his fans
to achieve as well.
Influenced by both psychoanalytic and trait concepts of personality, Henry Murray believed that
human needs are the basic elements of personality. Murray categorized human needs into two
groups: viscerogenic needs and psychogenic needs. Psychogenic needs are what Murray mostly
focused his work on and describe, a readiness to respond in a certain way under certain given
conditions (1938, pg. 124). He listed 27 psychogenic needs, including the need for achievement, and

Porter s Five Forces Analysis
Value Innovation
We have all seen that despite recessions some companies grow in revenues and profits. Why is this
so?
Until recently, the dominant theory applied to factors driving profitability of an industry was
Porter s Five Forces Model. As the name implies, the level of competitive intensity within an
industry from five specific sources determines attractiveness of an industry to potential entrants.
Porter developed Five Forces Analysis in response to SWOT analysis, a model he found too vague.
Porter s Five Forces include three forces from horizontal competition and two forces from vertical

Your Blue Ocean Strategy
Kim and Mauborgne argue that this approach limits companies to a fight over ever smaller slices of
an existing market and therefore revenues. This is especially true in economies with an aging
population. While these traditional competition based or Red Ocean Strategies are necessary, they
are insufficient to sustain high performance. They argued that companies need to go beyond
competing, seizing new profit and growth opportunities in previously unexplored ways they call
Blue Oceans.
Competition based strategies, such as Porter s Five Forces assume that an industry s fundamental
structure is a given and firms are obliged to compete within existing constraints. To sustain their
position in the marketplace, companies sticking to a Red Ocean Strategy emphasize creating
competitive advantage over the competition, usually by observing what the competition does and
striving to do what it does, but better or offering a cloned product, but cheaper. Attaining a bigger
market share in this environment is a zero sum game; one company s gain is another s loss.

The Pros And Cons Of Capitalism
On December 25, 1991, the hammer and sickle of the Soviet Union lowered for the last time.
After 69 years of enjoying a place in history as a world superpower, the massive territory dissolved
into 12 independent states. The Bush administration watched in awe as their main enemy crumbled
to dust. This was another victory for freedom, democracy, and capitalism. Communism, which lives
by the abolition of private property, is the exact opposite of capitalism, where individuals own their
own property and make money dependent on how much they work. There have been very few
communist countries, and all have been lead by dictators. Which form of economy is better? On
one end of the economic spectrum is capitalism. Capitalism is attributed to the Western world and
allows the common person to buy property. By definition, Capitalism is an economic systemin
which capital goods are owned by private individuals or businesses. The production of goods and
services is based on supply and demand in the general market (market economy), rather than
through central planning (planned economy or command economy), (Investopedia 1). This means
that people own everything and the profits of their property go to them. People and businesses also
control production and distribution of goods and the transfer of wealth. The positives of capitalism
are that people have opportunity to be wealthy and live life in comfort by working hard and
contributing to society. This feature attracts many immigrants

Principles of Scientific Management
Scientific Management is a theory of management that analyzed and synthesized workflows. Its
main objective was improving economic efficiency, especially labor productivity.
It was one of the earliest attempts to apply science to the engineering of processes and to
management. Its development began with Frederick Winslow Taylorin the 1880s and 1890s within
the manufacturing industries. Taylor was an American mechanical engineer and a management
consultant in his later years. He is often called The Father of Scientific Management.
Taylor was writing at a time when factories were creating big problems for the management.
Workmen were quite inefficient. According to Taylor, there were three reasons for the inefficiency.
They were the: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These principles are usually summarized as:
The development of a true science for each person s work. This principle created by Taylor
does replace the old rule of thumb method.
The scientific selection, training and development of the workers, whereas in the past he chose
his own work and trained him as best he could.
Co operation with the workers to ensure work is carried out in the prescribed way which has
been developed.
The division of work and responsibility between management and the workers. The management
takes over all work for which they are better fitted than the workmen, while in the past almost all of
the work and the greater part of the responsibility were thrown upon the men.
These principles were implemented in many factories, often increasing productivity. Henry ford
applied Taylor s principles in his automobile factories.
This use of Scientific Management has defined the key components of the McDonalds success
story, high volume and short waits time for the product, consistency or predictability of the end
product. The so called McDonalization has the following features that are evolution of the core
principles of scientific management. Secondly by examining the areas where strategic management
arises from scientific management and inference can be drawn about the opportunity cost of this
difference. The assembly line techniques have enabled McDonalds to serve food at high volumes

Effects Of Jurassic Park
In 1993, the movie Jurassic Park changed movies by adding in life like animatronic dinosaurs and
special effects that made the dinosaurs come to life. The special effects and animatronics was
enough for two more movies, which were The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park в…ў
(3). 14 years later after the release of Jurassic Parkв…ў, came Jurassic World. Jurassic World was
a well filmed movie that didn t only have a good plot, but also starred famous actors and actresses
such as Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard as the main characters, and also Jimmy Fallon.
While the movie was marvelous because of its amazing cast, the plot has to have some credit.
Jurassic World is a movie that takes place on the fictional island of Isla Nublar, which is the home
of cloned dinosaurs and the main setting of the Jurassic Park film series. The movie starts off by
introducing Zach and Grey, two brothers visiting the park who are cousins of Claire Dearing, the
operations manager. During their trip to the park, scientists reveal a new genetically mutated
dinosaur named the Indominus Rex which escapes and causes havoc across the island. With the
island now abandoned, Owen Grady and Claire Dearing travel the island trying to find Claire s

Indominus Rex was given life when people would dress in special suits that would make their

Endangered Species Act Essay
Endangered Species have been increasing as of recently and society has started questioning how
the world protects it s endangered species. The world s biodiversity is starting to decline and
future generations will never be able to appreciate some of the species that live today. Endangered
species have been increasing due to habitat loss, poaching and exotic species. The United States has
protected its endangered specieswith the Endangered Species Act, but wildlife groups and
federations have started to wonder its strength. Since the amount of Endangered Species in the
world has increased, the world needs harsher punishments for those who negatively affect
endangered species and have more protection for them.
The Endangered Species Act is one of the main ways that endangered species in the United
States are protected. The Endangered Species Act (ESA) of 1973 is a key legislation for both
domestic and international conservation. The act aims to provide a framework to conserve and
protect endangered and threatened species and their habitats ( Endangered Species Act ). This act
is for the endangered species of the United States and was signed by President Nixon. It has lost
much of the promise it once had and no longer has as much success in protection of endangered
species. Other countries have implemented their own versions of the Endangered Species Act and
have had similar success. However laws and rules affect the success of the Endangered Species Act.

These laws prevent society from committing certain actions that would negatively affect the
endangered species. The National Wildlife Federation also works to have new laws implemented
into the ESA and while additionally trying to have laws removed. Most ESA laws regarding
illegally killing endangered species result in a large fine. The Endangered Species act has saved
many species such as the Bald

`` The Yellow Wallpaper `` By Charlotte Perkins Gilman
John laughs at me, but one expects that in marriage.
Charlotte Perkins Gilman wrote, John laughs at me, of course, but one expects that in marriage. In
her The Yellow Wallpaper men attempted to prevent women from achieving their intellectual and
creative potential by making women be their subordinates. The dreadful wallpaper that Gilman
came to hate in her story is a symbolic representation of her personal life were as she gets married
her role is limited to that of a domestic servant as her husband exercises authority over her. For
example, in some parts of the world today, some women under the institution of marriage are still
caged because they must accept control or instructions from men as a social expectation. Gilman
and Chopin in their short stories how the male dominated society used power to imprison,
oppresses, silences, and encourages submissiveness among married women. The freedom for a
woman to speak, think, act and contribute to decision making in her marriage contributes to the
fight for equality between men and women.
The short story The Yellow Wallpaperby Charlotte Perkins Gilman illustrates the struggle faced
by women who seek freedom from oppression. Gilman reveals in this short story how the
narrator feels oppressed by her husband despite her love for writing by stating, He hates to have
me write a word (218). This narrator is apparently feeling trapped in a marriage that does not allow
her freedom to do the thing she enjoys. The trapped woman

that the reason for great functioning and survival of dental amalgam restorations is the anti

By whom and what means can bureaucrats and bureaucracies be held accountable for in public

Character development is seen in almost every character in the play Othello. Most of the
characters are seen tumbling in a downwards spiral of their former self; while other characters
are seen becoming more powerful due to the loss of power from the people above them. One of the
characters that developed from her superior s weaknesses is Iago s wife, Emilia. Emilia spends most
of her time with Othello s wife, Desdemona. Most of their conversation surrounds the topics of
gender roles in society and in their relationships. Desdemona s insecurity in her relationship leads
Emilia to find her own voice in order to defend her friend. Shakespeare utilizes ... Show more

Although Iago shoots her down; the fact that she even questioned him, shows change between Act
I Emilia and Act III Emilia. Although Emilia gave her husband the handkerchief he so very much
desired for his love; she still wondered what he had in store for her friend, Desdemona. In Act IV,
Othello hits Desdemona and they both continue in a downward spiral. At this time, Emilia and
Desdemona are really good friends and the audience sees a switch between the two.
The outspoken Desdemona is now a reserved housewife; and the reserved Emilia is now the
outspoken confidant that Desdemona relies on. She believes that her friend does not deserve the
treatment that has been served to her; so she speaks out on her problems reversing the roles placed
on them both. As Desdemona begins to settle into the housewife settings, she calls upon Iago and
Emilia recalls most of the event to her husband herself. Throughout the conversation, she even
brings up something she was too afraid to do so earlier: Iago s accusations that made you to
suspect me with the Moor. (IV.ii.173). Emilia has completely changed to a woman with an
unfiltered speech; through the heat she gained from her anger at Othello for hurting her friend
mentally and physically, she accounted some of her own relationship problems.
Admitting her own problems made it easier for her to betray her

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Mobile Learning
With the use of technology, teaching and learning took a big leap and is changing its paradigms,
from a closed model, and teacher centered classroom to a model more open and student centered,
where the teacher moves from one holder of knowledge for a learning mentor, able to manage
diverse discourses and practices as well as stimulate the intellectual capacities of students in the
treatment of information available. In network there is much valuable information, but there are
also many errors and controversies instead of teaching may confuse the students. So, they generally
have access to information, but do not always know to do with it. Nowadays, several tools can

  • 2. African Colonialism And Its Effects On Africa In the 1800 s countries were in search for land to expand their country into, this happened to many places including Africa. Colonialism was a time when countries took control of another land, which they then governed through direct or indirect rule depending on the country. During this time, Africa was most sought after due to its resources and its uninhabited land. Due to this, all colonial powers scrambled to get their hands on a piece of Africain order to expand their areas of rule. As a result of the scramble for Africa the Berlin Conference was held. At this conference representatives from fourteen countries came together to divide up Africa s land (Africans had no say in the matter, however). With colonial powers now in control, not everyone was pleased seeing as the governing country was only using them for natural resources and economic gain, which of course caused resistance with people refusing to assimilate to the colonial power. Eventually, anti colonial movements sprung up and they did whatever they could to try and regain their right to self rule. This ultimately led to boycotts, strikes, the formation of unions and political parties just to regain independence. Independence was a struggle that happened in many ways, such as violence and agreement as shown in Swaziland s case. Swaziland has a particularly special story of colonialism, due to the fact that they started out just asking for some support. Swaziland s journey toward colonialism started in the ... The Merriam Webster dictionary defines it as a branch of learning , an occupation requiring knowledge or skill or as the conscious use of skill and creative imagination . The early 1970 s, the period in which both pieces were preformed, saw the United States engaged in a violent conflict in Vietnam with protests and demonstrations sometimes being put down with force. Political unrest was visible especially among young artists. These young artists were at the center of this resistance and used their art to make their views known. The work in the novel has the added nuance of actually taking place on a university campus. Author Kathy O Dell remarks that she knew that the Vietnam War was one of the reasons Burden pushed himself to such physical and phycological limits (O Dell xii) in his performances. In the novel, Caleb and Hobart seem concerned most of all with creating art that is noteworthy and meaningful (Wilson 186). One of the most noteworthily things that can be done with their art is to create something with a political message behind it. In the novel, this message is not explicitly stated, it is more clear in the real life version of the act. In 2005, Burden explained certain aspects of his original 1971 performance. He says all of a sudden U.S. troops were shooting at protesting students... all of a sudden it [the violence] ... took on another dimension . He took the social unrest and unease he saw around him and used his art as a platform to start a conversation around the war in Vietnam and the prevalence of violence in general. These ... Only after this backstep (hence the term retro ) occurs, can the virus successfully insert its genetic material (now in dna form) into the host s dna. rna is slightly diп¬Ђerent from dna. rna contains only one genetic strand, whereas dna is a doubly stranded molecule. In addition, the sugars of these molecules are slightly diп¬Ђerent. dna contains the sugar deoxyribose while rna contains the sugar ribose. As they enter college a new world of decisions opens up to them. The main one being; how should one choose a major, based on potential financial gain or based on enjoyment? For the purposes of this paper when speaking of potential financial gain I am referring to majors that will have some type of base salary of at least 40k and enjoyment as majors that are in the fine arts. With so many different options at so many different schools this is undoubtedly one of the most difficult decisions to make due to the fact that a person s entire future will essentially be on the line. Nonetheless, when choosing a major, the most rational thing for someone to do is to choose a major with potential financial gain Now yes there are many people who have found work in their fields when it comes to majors such involving music, art, and fashion. However, the odds of receiving and opportunity to enter a career in those fields is very limited and exclusive almost. You know this because despite all that I have done in my attempts to shield you, you have seen them upset. You have seen them weep. You have seen them scream. You have watched our mother starving herself, disappear for hours at a time after haphazardly throwing about words of death. You have watched our father shut down, sleep for days, become frustrated at himself and at the world. You have sat with your brother and I in a police car as our father was taken to prison, cried without understanding as our mother wept, hidden as we have hidden. Berkeley is most famous work was for coming up with the view point Esse Est Percipi , or to be is to be perceived. Based on Berkeley s findings, an idea must be thought of or perceived in order to exist at all. And if everything in the world (aside from minds) is made of ideas, then the existence of things, depends on there being someone who perceives them. Upon learning that his new neighbors, the Tomkey family, have very different views on modern technology than most of first world society, he grows curious of them. The way the neighborhood reacts to this situation has a lot to say about how society tolerates other opinions and beliefs. Observation of their reactions shows how they feel more distant and uncomfortable towards the Tomkey family. David s own curiosity could be explained by his new lifestyle change, considering the narrator transitioned from a very secluded neighborhood to a much more cramped city lifestyle. When Sedaris learns that his new neighbors were definitely much more diverse than his family, he begins to question their beliefs. He then starts to spend a lot of time around their house. This alters the concentration of carbon dioxide in the blood, shifting the above reaction according to Le Chatelier s principle, which in turn alters the pH. For instance, if the bloodpH drops too low (acidemia), the body will compensate by increasing breathing thereby expelling CO2, and shifting the above reaction to the left such that fewer hydrogen ions are free; thus the pH will rise back to normal. For alkalemia, the opposite occurs. The kidneys are slower to compensate, but renal physiology has several powerful mechanisms to control pH by the excretion of excess acid or base. The positives of capitalism are that people have opportunity to be wealthy and live life in comfort by working hard and contributing to society. This feature attracts many immigrants ...
