Disastrous Self-Cannibalism
In Western culture a fundamental belief states that humans are profoundly different from animals.
In defense of our position as higher beings, we use culture and rationality to distinguish ourselves
from animals and savages. The eighteenth century European man saw himself as the very pinnacle
of culture and greatness. Advances in science had enabled man to understand and predict god s
world, and innovations in art allowed man to create works of increasing divine beauty. The progress
of society was evident and continued to propel mankind to greater status with increasing distance
from lowly animals. However, several eighteenth century authors present a different account of the
idea of progress. For Jonathan Swift, Alexander Pope, and William... Show more content on

In particular, Swift shows this theme of human degeneration in A Beautiful Young Nymph Going
to Bed (1731). The poem depicts Corinna, a prostitute, as she is removing her makeup and other
fashion accessories at the end of the day. However, this nymph s evening practices elicit shock
and horror: Corinna Takes off her artificial Hair, plucks out her Crystal Eye, and Untwists a Wire;
and from her Gums/ A Set of Teeth completely comes (A Beautiful Young Nymph Going to Bed
lines 10, 11, 19 20). This deconstruction of the female form functions as a sort of cannibalism. It
mirrors the process by which a butcher might process an animal so that its meat may be served.
Indeed, Corinna is self cannibalizing her own body and her own humanity. As her ritual
progresses, she Unlaces next her Steel rib d Brodice, which conjures up imagines of metal
machinery and suggests that she is less than human and therefore lacks the power of reason that
would keep her together. Furthermore, the prostitute s steady progress in revealing her grotesquely
fragmented body parallels the same falseness in society that Swift aims to reveal in his poetry. But
perhaps most horrifying is imagining how the Corinna, Must ev ry Morn her Limbs unite ( A
Beautiful Young Nymph Going to Bed 66). This process of reconstruction only works to hide her
true nature, which she disguises by presenting herself as fully human. Ultimately, Corinna is made
monstrous by the demands to uphold cultural standards of

Comparison Essay Beowulf
In beowulf there are three major battles that Beowulf participate in. The first battle is the battle
against grendel which is then followed up by the battle against Grendel s mother, and then finally
the last battle takes place against the Dragon. In all three of these battles Beowulf shows great
courage and manages to defeat all of these monsters. Although beowulfwas able to defeat these
three monsters they were different in some ways but also had some similarities. The first battle
takes place against Grendel. Grendel is a demon who descended from Cain. He is a very evil
monster who kills many people before beowulf hears about what has taken place. When he finds
out beowulf travels to the town to put an end to this monster. He waits in the mead hallfor Grendel
to strike again. At first no one believes that beowulf was strong enough but in fact he was. Unlike
when beowulf was fighting grendel s mom, beowulf puts aside his armor and sword to fight with
just his hands. Grendel proves to be no match for beowulf as he easily defeats the the monster.
This is where the first two fights different from one another. In the first fight beowulf for the most
part easily defeats grendel but when grendel s mother finds out and seeks revenge beowulf has to
put up a much harder fight because grendel s mother is much stronger... Show more content on

The first major difference is that the dragon has no relation to grendel and grendel s mother
whereas they did. The fight with the dragon also occurs much later whereas the fight with grendel
and his mom happened within days of each other. These differences were major but not the biggest
and most dramatic difference between the three. In the other two stories beowulf shows confidence
that he will prevail without dying. In the third story beowulf prepares to die in battle. He knows
that the dragon is the strongest of all three of the monsters and knows that he will not make it

Absorption
Alcohol is absorbed from all parts of the gastrointestinal tract largely by simple diffusion into the
blood. However the small intestine is by far the most efficient region of the gastrointestinal tract
for alcohol absorption because of its very large surface area. In a fasting individual, it is generally
agreed that 10% to 20% of a dose of alcohol is absorbed from the stomach (the volume of alcohol
affects the absorption) and 75% to 80% is absorbed from the small ... Show more content on

Alcohol Content
It s not how many drinks that you have, but how much alcohol that you consume. The concentration
of the drinks that one ingest can have a slight effect on the peak alcohol concentration due to the
differences in absorption rate of different concentrations of alcohol. Alcohol is most rapidly
absorbed when the concentration of the drink is between 10% and 30%. Below 10% the
concentration gradient in the gastrointestinal tract is low and slows absorption and the added
volumes of liquid involved slow gastric emptying. On the other hand concentrations higher than
30% tend to irritate the mucous membranes of the gastrointestinal tract and the pyloric sphincter,
causing increased secretion of mucous and delayed gastric emptying.
Food
Food taken along with alcohol results in a lower, delayed blood alcohol concentration peak (the
point of greatest intoxication). There are two major factors involved in this phenomenon.
First, because alcohol is absorbed most efficiently in the small intestine, the ingestion of food can
slow down the absorption of alcohol into one s system. The pyloric valve at the bottom of the
stomach will close in order to hold food in the stomach for digestion and thus keep the alcohol from
reaching the small intestine.

The United States Forest Service
The United States Forest Service is in favor of logging to a certain extent but there are several
groups that oppose logging in the United States. Groups such as NativeForest.org and
EarthRoots.org state that logging in the United States and specifically in industrial areas has led
to deforestation and near extinction of many animals. Forests cover 31% of the land area on the
planet. They produce vital oxygen and provide homes for people and wildlife. Many of the world s
most threatened and endangered animals live in forests, and 1.6 billion people rely on benefits
forests offer, including food, fresh water, clothing, traditional medicine and shelter.
However, forests around the world are under threat from deforestation, jeopardizing these benefits.
Deforestation comes in many forms, including fires, clear cutting for agriculture, ranching and
development, unsustainable logging for timber, and degradation due to climate change. This
impacts people s livelihoods and threatens a wide range of plant and animal species. Some 46 58
thousand square miles of forest are lost each year, which is equivalent to 36 football fields every
minute.
Forests play a critical role in mitigating climate change because they act as a carbon sink soaking
up carbon dioxide that would otherwise be free in the atmosphere and contribute to ongoing changes
in climate patterns. Deforestation undermines this important carbon sink function. It is estimated
that 15% of all greenhouse gas emissions are the

U.s. Trade Policy Policies
U.S. Trade Policy Throughout history, the United States trading policies have shifted from early
protectionism intended to generate revenue and support domestic industry growth to a high degree
of free trade within the international trade market (Carbaugh, 2015). In between, policy changes
designed to increase and decrease tariffs were enacted due to pressure from politicians, economists,
industries, citizens and other countries. Yet, emphasized in the ensuing paragraphs, America s
continuous efforts to maintain a sufficient amount of trade tariffs has continuously led to
fluctuations in the domestic economy. Along with the country s practice of protectionism, the
policies that influenced the major changes in tariffrates include the... Show more content on

As the initial tariffs laws prospered enough to yield over 90 percent of the federal government s
total revenue, pressures from developing industry leaders urging for a higher degree of protection
needed to combat growing foreign competition overwhelmed the governments revenue motives
(Carbaugh, 2015). Highlighted by Alexander Hamilton s propositions to the federal government in
1791, actions in the form of higher import tariffs and government subsidies were essential to the
promotion of manufacturing within the United States (Irwin, 1996). Consequently, these views
fueled a growing debate and struggle between the North s industry led economy who favored higher
duties on imports and the South s import dependent economy, which relied on lower costs
(Carbaugh, 2015). With the government s passing of the Tariff of Abominations in 1828, their
intentions of promoting the purchase of domestic goods by increasing the price of cheaper foreign
products, mostly from English exporters, enraged the Southern economy due to the record setting
tariff duties that were the highest in the world (Wilson, 2009). Additionally, the Southern states
desired lower tariffs in order encourage the trade of cotton and tobacco, which were supplied by
Southern farmers and plantation owners (Wilson, 2009).

Challenges Of Quality Based Competition For High Tech...
INTRODUCTION
The automotive industry in India is one of the largest automotive markets in the world, previously
one of the fastest growing markets globally. It started out as a small venture in the 1940s but
witnessed a rapid growth with the entry of some big manufacturers like Mahindra Mahindra and
Maruti in mid and late 1900s. In 2000, this industry became an important sector of the Indian
economy and a major foreign exchange earner for the country.
The Shiv group was one of the largest industrial groups in India at this time established in the
early 1900s. Having over 20 companies and a turnover of US $1 billion, they were market leaders
in the sectors like tea, auto parts, electronics, finance, pharmaceuticals etc. In 2000, Shiv industry
was going through a rough patch experiencing a steep fall in its earnings. The key reasons were its
inability to cope up with the changing needs and competitive scenario due to internationalization of
this market. The challenges of quality based competition in high tech product market and price
based competition in low tech product market became a big concern for Shiv s management.
PROBLEM STATEMENT AND POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS
PROBLEM 1
Globalization of automotive industry
Although Shiv industries excelled in automobile industries, but the changing global trends in this
industry was a key concern for Shiv s management. Due to internationalization of this market, the

September 11 Attacks and World Trade Center
Watching the movie 102 minutes for the second time opened my eyes to the tragedy of 9/11 more
than it did the first time. Being only six years old at the time of the incident, I didn t truly
understand the magnitude of the disaster until years later. The quality of the movie made it very
clear to me just how painful being around the World Trade Centerbuildings during the attack was,
not only for the people in the buildings that were hit, but for the people around as well. The
feeling of helplessness that the bystanders must have felt in addition to the feeling of fear must
have been unbearable. Seeing the footage of the attack in such clear video made it feel as though it
was like a
Hollywood movie rather than a real traumatic event ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Second I think that people weren t necessarily sure that what they saw was a real event. Sure, it
clearly happened, but the events seemed fictional because of their magnitude. I know that even
though I saw footage of the attacks, it still seems surreal. The magnitude of the attack makes it
seem like something that no one would expect to actually happen to us. Overall I think that those
who did not turn off their cameras did something positive because we would not see so much about
the attacks or ever forget them with this much visual coverage of it.
I think that the events of 9/11 made a huge impact on those around that survived. In my opinion,
I think that I would have felt so unbearable helpless in a situation like this. I have an altruistic
sense of being so not being able to help those around me makes me feel like I failed my life s goal
of helping others even though I feel that I might be in danger.
102 Minutes differs from other documentations because it is a mix of many different people s
perspectives and real experiences. It shows the true, raw emotions of the attacks rather than just
demonstrating the factual event. I think that 102 Minutes was more effective that other movies
made about 9/11 because it showed everyone the real events, not Hollywood altered, not hiding and
bias, it showed the real hurt that not only New York, but the country

Hundreds Years War Essay
Hundred Years War
The definition of the Golden Rule is that those with the gold make the rules. In other words,
those with the gold have the power as well as those with the power have the gold. History books
will discuss the general reasons for war such as freedom from adversity or freedom from religion.
But the real issue for any war is the thirst for power and control; and the means to finance them are
the economic issues. Nations will endure years of fighting for power and control. France and
England fought each other for more than a hundred years to have control of the Channel trade routes

Wine was Gasgony s largest export product and major source of income to the vassal. Wool was
England s largest export product and the source of its wealth. English pastures produced fleeces
that were the envy of Europe which Flanders depended on for its wool and linen market. 8
English sheep growers sold their long fine wool to weavers in Flanders, across the English
Channel. Flemish weavers as well as English sheep growers depended on this trade for their
business. In 1336, Philip VI arrested all the English merchants in Flanders and took away all the
privileges of the Flemish towns and the craft guilds. Resulting in the Flemings revolting against the
French control and making an alliance with England. 9 Consequently, the flourishing market of
the industrial cities of Ghent, Bruges, Antwerp and Ypres were naturally coveted by the Kings of
France and England. Moreover, the Bordeaux harbor was within the borders of English Gascony
and was the center of the shipping and trading industry. Commodities such as grains, dairy
products, dyes and salt would be shipped into Bordeaux via the Dordogne and Garonne Rivers and
the merchants were charged a customs fee for these products. Also, Bordeaux would receive duties
on wine, whether shipped in or grown on Gascon soil. Consequently, the profits from the tolls and
customs made Bordeaux the economic capital of

Analysis Of Fernand Leger s The Divers
With most of the 20 elements and principles evident in the painting The Divers (Red and Black)
by Fernand Leger, we can achieve a better understanding and cohesiveness of this piece.
Additionally, alongside with his other paintings, the medium used for this painting was also oil on
canvas. In this painting, Leger incorporates a specific style called Cubismand incorporates a strong
simple imagery. The artist s personal style consists of bold use of colorwhile combining his art as
something that everyone can enjoy. A brief formal analysis of this painting will show us how he
used the main principle of emphasis to showcase the characteristics of the humanbody progressing
in space. In order to demonstrate these specific characteristics, Leger incorporates many
different types of elements into this piece. In this painting, color plays an important role. The
shapes of the blue squares contrast altogether with the other shapes and also, with the mutated
beige background. Leger uses numerous colors such as the neon yellow, red, blue, black, and
green in order to reveal that the colors are free and therefore, these colors exist in space. As
mentioned earlier, this painting included a variety of different shapes; there are two different
types of shape that can be seen in this painting. The first type is geometric or regular shapes such
as the squares, circles, and rectangles. The second, on the other hand, are organic and freeform
shapes such as the feet, hands, and face. Next, Leger incorporates many lines throughout this
portrait. From curved lines to a single horizontal line, Leger includes each different type to
develop a sense of movement, or rhythm. The curved lines makes the viewer s eyes circle
around the piece to further realize the symbolism. For space, Leger leaves many of the corner as
negative space. However, the corners of this painting are not the only ones Leger leaves as space.
Because the shapes and colors are kept simple, there s also quite a series of distance between the
shapes even throughout the whole entire painting. Again, because of the simplicity of the shapes,
even the texture of this painting can be seen as smooth. The painting does not involve any harsh or
rugged lines, and is

each proposal, complete the Pros, Cons, and Future Outlook columns.

Provide clinics for basic healthcare needs to all citizens free of cost. The services would include
immunizations and diagnosis of minor injections and illnesses treatable with antibiotics, etc. This
would alleviate the high costs and long waits at emergency rooms because people without
insurance could be treated by PAs or nurses, which reduces costs. It would also mean people
would potentially get treatment before the illness or infections spreads to others or gets worse.
These clinics would need to be funded. There would be a temporary shortage in qualified
practitioners in the first few years. Many local government or nonprofit agencies offer
immunization clinics but they are usually crowded. Free flu shots are often provided by companies
such as Wal mart.
Take the burden of paying for health insurance away from the employer. Instead create a national
sales tax to fund health insurance for everyone. Every US citizen would get a voucher to use

The purpose of this journal article was to test two different cooling methods on Murrah buffalo
under heat stressed conditions. Summarizing the study, they selected 12 Murrah buffalo that had
previously calved 2 or 3 before and were in early, 50 70 days, lactation during the study. The trial
took place for a span of 60 days, 30 during the May June months and the other 30 in the August
September months. 6 buffalo were placed under constantly running water showers (Group 1),
while the other 6 were allowed to wallow in a water pond from 11 A.M. to 4 P.M (Group 2). They
collected blood samples from both groups on 3 day intervals for both trial time periods, specifically
testing for plasma thyroxine (T4), triiodothyronine (T3), cortisol, and insulinhormones. During the
study the buffalo had ad lib water and access to green maze fodder. They wanted to also see how
differences in humidity would impact the effectiveness of the cooling methods and how it would
impact the buffalos milk and feed yields. The average temperature humidity index (THI) was
80.3% during the hot dry season and 83.6 during the hot humid season. The results showed that
the buffalo that wallowed in the water pond had a higher average plasma T4 and insulin level
compared to those under water showers in the hot dry season. Plasma T3 levels weren t noticeably
different between Group 1 and 2. Although Plasma cortisol concentration in Group 1 were higher

Function Of A Value Of X Essay
Up to now if I gave you an equation, and asked you to solve it for x you would be, in general,
looking for a value of x which solved the equation. Given:
x^2+3x+2=0
You can solve this equation to find two values of x.
I could also give you an equation which linked x and y explicitly, and you could find a
relationship between the two which, given a value of x would give you a value of y. You ve been
doing this now for many years. Now we re going to add a hugely powerful tool to our mathematical
arsenal. We re going to allow our equations to include information about gradients of the
function...let s see what this means...
We re going to take everything that you learnt about integration and turn it into a way to model and
understand the world around us. This is a very powerful statement and indeed differential equations
are without a doubt the most powerful mathematical tool we have to understand the behaviour of
everything from fundamental particles to populations, economies, weather, flow of wealth, heat,
fluids, the motion of planets, the life of stars, the flight of an aircraft, the trajectory of a meteor,
the way a pendulum swings, the way a ponytail swings (see paper on this here), the way fish
move, the way algae grow, the way a neuron fires, the way a fire spreads...and so much more.
So what is a differential equation? It is an equation which contains one or more derivatives of a
function.
Let s look at a very simple example, of population growth. We might want to

Victorian Era Medicine
vDuring the Victorian era, medicine was not as advanced as it is today. Medical practices
employed techniques that have been used for a very long time. Even when there were new
breakthrough in medicine, doctors, such as physicians, surgeons and apothecaries barely used them.
Medical training in the early nineteenth century was very different and diverse. Even though
some people had degrees from colleges that were very advanced and very known, some were
apprenticed to apothecaries where they spent most of their time capping bottles and rolling pills
(Youngson 12). Still others were quacks and drug peddlers who practiced freely with no legal
sanctions against them.
In the United Kingdom, there were three groups of authentic medical groups. They were the
physician, the surgeons, and the apothecaries. Some would call them the Royal College of
Physician, the Royal College of Surgeons, and the Society of apothecaries.
Physicians were taught in universities and people said that when it came to medicine, the knew
the most. They were not allowed to take the roll of a surgeon or give out drugs like an apothecary
until 1858. They were only allowed to examine patients, diagnose disease, and give medicine. In
1800, there were only 179 licensed physicians and by 1847, the number of physicians grew and
became 683.

United States senators. Also Congress would later pass the 19th amendment which allowed
women s suffrage, or the ability to vote. Also states and people began to use the secret Australian

It shows she is not interested in her father and wants to carry on with her own thing. This is
unlike the stereotypical power in a 1880 s relationship. Hobson still has power over them. We
think Alice and Vickey are a hassle for Hobson and this is why he is marrying them off against
their will. Alice and Vickey think of their father as bad tempered. But still try to get round him

Maggie stands in his way as he follows and she closes the door. She looks at him from the stair.
This shows a power struggle between Hobson and Maggie. The audience would be able to see

Adversity Negative Effects
Intro: Adversity; misfortune, disaster and trauma. We have seen adversity on both the major and
minor levels of the past, present and in fiction. We often see in all aspects the negatives that
adversity leads to. So this begs the question, does adversity lead to growth? We see adversity from
the Columbian exchange through growing populations and new technology. In the New York
Times article by Andrew E. Kramer, one reads about the financial growth Russiafaces after a long
time of recession. Likewise, in Catherine Hyde s Pay it Forward One will read about the
emotional and mental growth people have after Trevor dies which essentially causes the movement
to flourish. We see adversity everywhere in life, and although there are many negative
consequences that go along with adversity, eventually, it will lead to development and a rise in
success.
The Columbian exchange had many moving parts to it, however, a largely known negative impact
was the massive fatalities diseases spread by trade and exploration had on both Europeans and
native societies; these massive epidemics slowly brought growth to the world. The Columbian
Exchange by Alfred W. Crosby, is an article that shows the statistics and impacts that the
Columbian exchange had on those who lived during it, as well as the people who came
generations after. Crosby explains how these diseases impacted Native Americans by saying,Qte 1:
Smallpox was the worst and most spectacular of the infectious diseases mowing down the

A Comparison Of Neil Armstrong And Buzz Aldrin
Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin in a Moon simulationLighting
In the photos taken on the moon, theorists claim that the lighting in the pictures is incorrect and
that it could only be achieved by multiple light sources like you would get on a film set which led
them to believe than the photos were taken on earth.
In the photo of Buzz Aldrin where he is descending from the lunar module tot he moons surface he
looks to be far to illuminated if you consider the shadow cast by the lunar module which leads
conspiracy theorist to claim that Buzz Aldrin being lit like that could only be achieved through
studio lights since on the moon there is only one light source, the sun.
Conspiracy theorist are correct when they say an artificial light source caused Buzz Aldrin s suit to
illuminate, however it is not studio lights causing it, but Neil Armstrong. The sun is directly behind
the lunar module in this photo and standing away from the the lunar module is Astronaut Neil
Armstrong who s reflective white space suit lit up Buzz Aldrin s suit this is because the space suits
the astronauts wore during apollo 11 reflected up to 85% of the light that strikes them.

The Importance Of The Mosque In The Muslim Community
Family and community assets is anything which is shared within the community by the families in
that community. A shared asset can be a mosque, community center, library, treatment centers, etc.
which is there for the families within that community. Most neighborhoods have a community
center which families bring their children, to play sports and to participate in activities held within
the community. In the Muslim community, the mosques built within that community. Is built for
the families within that community, to pray and to do their worshipping.
The Masjid (mosque) t welcomes everyone, day or night, summer or winter, requiring no
application form or permission, and it does not turn anyone away be they young or old, male or
female, Muslim or non Muslim, black or white Arab or Non Arab. Entry into the Masjid does not
require any fee, insurance, or any permission. There are no hindrances, no obstacles, nor does the
Masjid differentiate between the laymen and a scholar, nor between a ruler and a subject, nor
between a wealthy and a poor person (Mabdullah 2013) .
Modern mosques have many services in addition to prayer. For the youth, there are courses,
activities for the youth to partake in. Growing up, I attended a nearby mosque every weekend
from 9am 1pm for dugsi ( Islamic studies). My mother took me to the mosque to be closer to the
religion. This is something most Muslim families do, to keep their children away from going

Essay On Gender Expectations In Romeo And Juliet
In the play, Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare both Romeo and Juliet fit into gender
expectations in some ways. Gender roles are stereotypes that males and females fulfill and each
of the same gender is supposed to follow by a courtesy code. Most gender roles are not being
followed anymore as shown by the fact that women like sports as much as men; men can now stay
at home and have the females in the family work. Although Juliet conforms to genderexpectations
by making irrational decisions, being childish and depending on others, but in some circumstances,
she also defies them by not listening to her father.
To start with, Juliet is easily swayed into rash decisions without thinking them through. Towards the
beginning of the play, Juliet finds out that Romeo is a Montague. Juliet, at the party, states that her

Near the beginning of the book, after Romeo and Juliet had met, Juliet expresses O Romeo,
Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo?/ Deny thy father and refuse thy name./ Or, if thou wilt not,

like teenaged girls would have about guys nowadays. When Romeo had recently been banished
and Tybalt had just been killed, Juliet is informed of her parents decision to make her marry
Paris and she had an extremely childish and pouty reaction. Now, by Saint Peter s Church, and
Peter too, He shall not make me there a joyful bride. (iii:v 121 122). This shows Juliet portrayed

portrays Juliet as a childish teenager with fantasies. Not only is Juliet portrayed as a typical
teenage girl who acts very immature she also is a figure of her time in that she is believed to by

The White Picket Fence Was All Race s Suburban Goal Essay
The suburban life is a dream which people of all economic backgrounds sought. Although many
families were not able to realize the ideal white picket fence suburb experience which one often
imagines when speaking of the suburbs, they still created a suburb of their own. The desire for a
suburban home to call their own was largely due to the notion that a home provided a sense of
security; it was safety net (Nicolaides and Wiese 2006:213). This safety net could not be obtained
in the central city because people were simply not able to buy an apartment or condominium and
instead were simply forced to rent. Moving to the suburbs and purchasing a home was seen as a
good investment, and people of all races wanted in on this investment. Despite... Show more content

This consequently led to the creation of the unplanned suburbs . These suburbs were makeshift
homes built by individual families using scrap materials. The job of self building typically
involved the entire family and could take months, if not years to complete (Nicolaides and Wiese
2006:214). For many poor Americans building a home was a long process that involved the whole
family and came with a lot of sacrifice.
Despite the fact that the process of constructing a home took much longer for working class
families, in the end the unplanned suburb home owners were the same as the early suburb homes.
An example of this is the addition separate living areas instead of one main room. Mary Helen
Ponce describes that her ...father built los cuartitos. The men s rooms, as we called them were
separate from the main house, with windows that looked out on the front and back yards, and had
room for several beds (Nicolaides and Wiese 2006:205). Just like the earlier suburbs which evolved
from a one room unit into a home with separate living areas. The ubiquitous white picket fence that
comes to mind when we think about suburbs was sometimes part of the makeshifts homebuilder s
dream. Mary describes her father s feelings of their white picket dream my father s pride and joy
was the white picket fence. It faced Hoyt Street and was his original design, or so he liked to think

Adler s Ethos In How To Mark A Book
When I read a book or a paper, I read it and sometimes make a few mental notes. What do you do?
Do you mark and write things down? In Mortimer J. Adler s paper, How to Mark a Book, he
argues the best way to get the most out of reading is to mark the book or paper, leaving ones
thoughts on the pages. Some say this slows them down, or leaves behind a messy, ruined book, but
Adler claims reading slower and writing thoughts down allows the reader and author to have a
conversation that will enhance the readers understanding of the text. Through his paper, Adler
attempts to use the rhetorical triangle of ethos, pathos, and logos to connect the audience to his
paper and to convince them the best way to understand a text is through marking it.... Show more

Ethos Out of the three, ethos, pathos, and logos, Mortimer J. Adler uses ethos, or the ethical
character and credibility of the speaker, most effectively, in order to convince his audience that he
has a right to be explaining the usefulness of marking a book while reading it. In the very
beginning, there is an introduction about Adler which states things such as, He founded and
fathered the Great Books Program, edited the Encyclopedia Britannica, and wrote dozens of
books on educational, intellectual, and philosophical topics (Adler, n.d./2012, p.1). He also
earned his PhD from Columbia University after dropping out of high school, demonstrating his
dedication to learning. This sets the stage for the reader to feel that the author is a credible
source for writing on this subject. As the article continues, Adler retains his credibility by
mentioning other point of views. He says, You may say that this business of marking books is
going to slow up your reading (Adler, n.d./2012, p.4). Although he does mention these other
points of view, he refutes them quickly. For example, the next two sentences say, It probably
will. That s one of the reasons for doing it (Adler, n.d./2012, p.4). He refutes the other viewpoints

what she wanted to answer, but she didn t speak. Never mind the way forward [on the road], you

Cilician Armenia Influence
Cilician Armenian society was full of culture, had a thriving economy, and an established religion.
It had a mixed population, consisting of Armenians, Greeks, Muslims, Jews, and several Europeans.
It had a multi ethnic demographic, with many commercial and political links to Europe, specifically
France. This brought important and new influences to the Armenian culture. The nobles of Cicilian
Armenia embraced many features of Western European life, such as the fashion and the use of
French Christian names. Because of the close relationship with France, the structure of Cicilian
society was similar to Western feudalism instead of the traditional nakharar system of Armenia. For

This cultural influence was a two way street. Cilician Armenians impacted the Crusaders returning
to the West, especially with their architectural traditions. Armenian masons taught Europeans the
foundations of church architecture and Armenian castle design. During the Cilician period,
specifically the thirteenth, important models of Armenian art were produced. Cilician Armenia
prospered due to its strategic position on the eastern shores of the Mediterranean. It was located at
the juncture of many different trade routes, which linked the Persian Gulf and Central Asia to the
Mediterranean. This made the kingdom important in spice trade. Other important capitals were
timber, grain, wine, silk, and raisins, which were all exported from the country. During the reign of
King Levon, Cilician Armenia s economy flourished and became strongly cohesive with Western
Europe. King Levon was able to secure agreements with various parts of Italy, such as, Pisa and
Venice, as well as the French and the Catalans, who were located in northern Spain. These areas
granted the Armenians certain privileges, like tax exemptions in return for their business.
Important Europeans merchant communities and colonies came into existence. These places set up
their own churches, courts of law, and trading houses. French became the secondary language for
the Cilician nobles, but the secondary language for Cilician commerce became Italian, because of

Understanding Justification and Righteousness
INTRODUCTION John Calvin described justification as the main hinge on which religion turns,
while Martin Luther described justification as the doctrine on which the church stands or falls.
DEFINING TERMS Two terms must be defined before we go further: righteousness and
justification. The basis of this paper is to look at the doctrine of justification as Paul presents it in
Romans, but clarification of these two terms will be helpful at this point. As N.T. Wright states,
English and American have two quite different root words, just and righteous, where Greek and
Hebrew have one each, dikaios and its cognates in Greek, tsedaqah and its cognates in Hebrew. In
order to properly understand justification we must begin with an ... Show more content on

Packer explains, there is virtually no lexical support to interrupt to justify to mean to make
righteous. In Romans 3:19 4:9, Paul provides explanation how God can be both just and the
justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus (Rom. 3:26). A fundamental difference between the Old
Testament and the book of Romans is that no one has the ability to fulfill the law, there is no one
righteous (Rom. 3:10; 20). In verse 21 Paul tells us the righteousness of God has been
manifested apart from the law and that this righteousness is from God through faith in Jesus
Christ for all who believe (v. 22). Therefore, when Paul tells us one is justified by faith apart
from the works of the law (3:28) we understand justification being defined as a judicial act of God.
And by the atoning work of Christ, God reckons sinners absolved from sin, their penalty dismissed,
declared righteous, and placed in a right relationship with God.
PAUL S CASE FOR JUSTIFICATION Paul presents his readers with a clear and simple thesis in
the first three books of Romans: mankind is inherently in opposition to God, none is righteous, no,
not one; no one understands; no one seeks God (3:10 11). The whole of his teaching from 1:18
3:20 is

Analysis of The Inquisitor s Argument in The Brothers Karamazov
Dostoevsky makes a strong case against Jesus in The Grand Inquisitor : Jesus did not love
humanity sufficiently to care for the greater good of the race.
The majority of people, according to the Grand Inquisitor, are weak and like sheep. Jesus prized
freedom of faith above all else, and because he cared more for that freedom than for the happiness
of people, the Grand Inquisitor and the Catholic Church, as led by he Inquisitor, reject Jesus. Only

Earthly bread is the antithesis of freedom. Thoreau understood that as long as a person is dependant
on anyone else for anything, he is not truly free.
The second temptation the Devil poses is for Jesus to cast Himself down on the ground from a
high cliff to prove that He is the son of God. Jesus refuses, reminding Satan that the Scriptures say
do not tempt the Lord your God. The Inquisitor claims that even if man were to have earthly bread
in abundance, without a stable conception of the object of life, man would not continue to live, and
any who would lead men must captivate their consciences. Only three powers can do this, says the
Inquisitor: miracle, mystery, and authority. In the first temptation, Jesus rejected the first power,
and now is rejecting the second. The Inquisitor says, And I ask Thee again... couldst Thou believe
for a moment that men, too, could face such a temptation? Once again, Jesus is refusing to captivate
the souls of men by force.
The third and final temptation that the wise and dread spirit poses Christ is to offer Him all the
kingdoms of the world if Jesus will only bow down and worship him. Begone, Satan, replies

vitamins, enhancers, supplements, and so on. The purpose of this paper is to take a look at the
supplement that most athletes use, which is known as creatine, and to see if it has any benefits or
none at all.
Creatine is a natural generated remote guanidine compound which is synthesized in the kidneys,
pancreas, and liver and released into the blood, where after, the majority of it is stored in the

One side effect that comes with taking this supplement is weight gain. This could be because
creatine allows for water buildup within the muscles (CREATNIE, n.d.). Quackwatch mentioned
that the reason for this is increasing intracellular creatine may cause an osmotic influx of water into
the cell because creatine is an osmotically active substance (1999) So it might not just be muscle
mass that is allowing those to gain weight, but the majority of it could be water weight instead.
Another possible side effect would be the effect it might have on the kidneys. Earlier, I mentioned
that athletes exceeding the normal amount recommended could see consequences and this would
be one of them. Also, taking creatine while on prescription medications can also double the effect
on the kidneys as well (CREATINE, n.d.). If someone is taking prescription medication, they must

Bloodstain Pattern Analysis Essay
Abstract
Physical evidence left behind at a crime scene plays a crucial role in reconstructing the events that
took place involving the crime. Bloodstain pattern analysis (BPA) is a discipline which utilizes the
sciences of biology, physics, and mathematics. Bloodstain interpretation may be accomplished by
direct scene evaluation and/or careful study of scene photographs in conjunction with detailed
examination of clothing, weapons, and other objects regarded as physical evidence. The location,

Sam Sheppard for the murder of his wife Marilyn. In the 1954 trial, State of Ohio v. Samuel
Sheppard, Dr. Sam Sheppard, a physician, was convicted for bludgeoning his wife to death while
she was in bed. Sheppard stated he was innocent and claimed he was sleeping on a couch down
stairs when he heard Marilyn scream his name from upstairs. His statement said he rushed up to the
bedroom but was knocked unconscious by an unknown person. The local coroner testified saying
that the pool of blood on her pillow held the impression of a surgical tool. He also stated that
blood found on Sheppard s watch was from blood spatter as he was hitting his wife (Desario
Mason 2003). Sheppard was imprisoned for ten years until criminalist Dr. Paul Kirk, after
conducting a thorough investigation of the Sheppard home, published a report concluding that
the murderer was left handed and probably used a flashlight as a murder weapon. Dr. Sam
Sheppard was right handed. He also reported finding blood in the murder room that came from
neither Sam nor Marilyn. Dr. Kirk was also able to conclude that the blood from Sheppard s
watch was blood transfer from trying to find his wife s pulse (Desario Mason 2003). Sam Sheppard

Liberal Arts Education Vs Liberal Education
Liberal education consists in reading and analyzing complex intellectual material every day, this
kind of education is intellectually too demanding for most young people and only a few
percentiles are indeed good at it, however, a large proportion of people who are able to assimilate a
liberal education have no interest in doing so. Liberal artseducation has been criticized due to
misperceptions by students, society, and media. Ungar points out seven misperceptions about
Liberal arts education and also provides a response for each one of them. Students can make a
living with a liberal arts college degree by finding a job easily in the future, the field of study in
liberal arts education is broader, and it is more affordable.
After students graduate from a liberal arts college, they usually obtain a job within a short period
of time. Although a misconception claims that College graduates are finding it harder to get good
jobs with liberal arts degrees (192), Ungar states that employers are in fact, looking ... Show more

People believe that The cost of American higher education is spiraling out of control... (196),
which in fact, is a significant concern because economic issues are important when choosing a
university. The net cost of a small liberal arts college can be lower than the net cost of a large
public university. For this reason, a small liberal arts college is the best option. The advantage of a
small liberal arts college goes beyond the net cost to the relation between students and professor,
staff and other students. Since it is smaller, students are able to rich their professors, to get to know
them and have a sense of community (196). Close interaction between faculty member and

Oppositional Defiant Disorder
Oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) is one of a group of behavioral disorders in the disruptive
behavior disorders category. Children who have these disorders tend to be disruptive with a
pattern of disobedient, hostile, and defiant behavior toward authority figures. These children often
rebel, are stubborn, argue with adults, and refuse to obey. They have angry outbursts, have a hard
time controlling their temper, and display a constant pattern of aggressive behaviors. ODD is one
of the more common mental health disorders found in children and adolescents (AACAP, 2009).
It is also associated with an increased risk for other forms of psychopathology, including other
disruptive behavior disorders as well as mood or anxiety problems (Martel,... Show more content on

Identifying potential factors for modification early in development is crucial to facilitate
innovations in the development of interventions that may alleviate the significant clinical and
public health burden associated with these behaviors (Tung Lee, 2014).
Based on the criteria by the American Psychiatric Association (APA), ODD is a diagnosisthat is
defined by a pattern of angry/irritable mood, argumentative/defiant behavior or vindictiveness. To
meet the specific diagnostic criteria for ODD, the individual must demonstrate impairment in
functioning and must meet at least four of the suggested disruptive symptoms, lasting at least 6
months as and exhibited during interaction with at least one individual who is not a sibling. The
criteria includes: often loses temper, is touchy or easily annoyed, is often angry or resentful, often
argues with authority figures or adults, actively defies or refuses to comply with requests from
authority figures or with rules, often deliberately annoys others, blames others for misbehavior, has
been spiteful 2x in the past 6 months (APA, 2013).
Although the diagnostic criteria are relatively specific, there is still some relative subjectivity in
determining the normative nature of the behaviors that may be observed in any one individual.
Given this subjectivity, ODD, as a diagnostic category, is not consistently agreed upon by
researchers and

The Life and Times of Benjamin Bugsy Siegel
Benjamin Bugsy Siegel was a man unlike any other, a man who strove to be better than what he
was, and who grew up with nothing yet died with everything (Carter 179; PBS par. 1; Bugsy
Siegel Encyclpaedia par. 3). Unlike many who give up in life because of the many problems they
may face, Bugsy Siegel strove to be better than his father was (Carter 179). Eventually, Siegel
began forcing peddle cart vendors to give him payments for protection from himself (PBS par. 2;
Carter 179). Thus began Siegel s transformation to a true mafia man running around with Lucky
Luciano, Meyer Lansky, and the Murder Inc. which Siegel himself created (Southwell 212; PBS

Luciano asked Siegel to go to L.A. and keep watch over their businesses there (Bugsy Siegel
Encyclopaedia par. 3). It was here that Siegel began to have many mistresses, including Virginia
Hill, even after his wife Estelle Krakower bore him two girls (Carter 187, 180). While in L.A.
Siegel began to dream of a gambling oasis in the desert. Siegel found the little town of Las
Vegas, a town that had a few small gambling hot spots here and there but not what he wanted.
Siegel wanted bigger. Siegel reached out to many mafia families in hopes that they would aid in
the funding of his dream. In the end, Siegel began to skim the east coast mafias for money as
well as obtain funds from a few of his mistresses (Bugsy Siegel Encyclopaedia par. 3). In 1945,
Siegel s Flamingo Hotel and Casino was completed (Bugsy Siegel Encyclopaedia par. 3) the
project was budgeted to approximately $1,500,000; however, the end total cost was $6,000,000
(Bugsy Siegel Encyclopaedia par. 3). At first the Flamingo Hotel and casino was not profitable
which did not sit well with the mafia families that paid for it (Bugsy Siegel, Organized par. 5). It
is obvious that this did not set well with the families and soon after the opening of the hotel and
casino Siegel was murdered (Bugsy Siegel, Organized par. 5). On June 20, 1947, Bugsy Siegel
was shot in his Mistress home (Bugsy Siegel Encyclopaedia par. 3). Supposedly, Siegel had gotten

The Business Model ( Bm ) Essay
RQ1. The business model (BM) delineates the logic of how an organization creates, acquires, and
delivers value and facilitates the organization s strategy implementation through the organizational
structures, processes, and systems (Osterwalder Pigneur, 2010). The BM seeks to establish and
maintain a relationship with a targeted demographic through the provision of benefits that solve a
problem or meets a need. This value proposition is available through key resources, activities, and
partnerships in respect to the cost structure and is delivered to the customer through channels; the
value proposition returns to the organization in the form of revenue stream. The BM is an
aggregation of components that align to support the organization s philosophy of how it plans to
prosper. Customer segments identify the customer that the organization desires to reach and serve.
Customer relationships are defined by the type of relationship the organization establishes with the
customer segment. Value propositions specify the benefits (products and services) that an
organization can provide a customer to meet a need or solve a problem. Key resources are the assets
that enable the organization to offer value, reach the market, maintain relationships, and earn
revenue. Key activities detail the actions the organization must perform to operate successfully. Key
partnerships are business alliances that optimize the strategy and provide resources. Cost structure

Traditional African Music Compilation By Kevin Macleod
I, along with my group members London, Keely, Austin, Cody, and Maddie, choreographed the
dance Homecoming to the song Traditional African Music Compilation by Kevin Macleod. This
dance is a symbol of all we have learned this semester and our intent was to demonstrate that. This
semester we studied tribal dance, more specifically african dances, such as the Maasai Jumping
Dance. We also learned about war dances and the different reasons villages dance during times of
war. We attempted to include elements of all these different dance styles relating to our theme.
This project is the only time I have ever been able to perform on a stage for an audience, whether it

Our dance supported this theme and story with the war dance we did in the beginning of the
dance. The warriors also got spears and supplies before waving goodbye and exiting the stage.
The villagers then performed a somber mournful dance. As the warriors come back onstage, the
villagers were looking around eager for the warriors return. Then we all came together and cheered
then did a dance celebrating the return. We emphasized the happiness of coming back from war safe.
We all worked well together and made equal contributions to the process. I choreographed the
war dance, and the elephant celebration dance movements. I also found the music for our
performance. London, Maddie, Keely, and Austin all worked together to choreograph the dance
while the warriors were off stage. Cody helped come up with the ideas of warriors and having
spears and backpacks. I don t remember all the details of what each group member did
specifically, but we were all supportive and also respectful. We worked off each others ideas and
offered constructive comments rather than bickering or being stubborn. I enjoyed working with my
group and can say we are friends because of it.
I feel our performance relates very well with the information we have learned in class. Our original

Broken Crown Myth
What to do with a broken crown tooth?
The importance of the teeth is nothing new to be described as these plays an inevitable role in our
life. All of us understand the need and the advantage of having healthy teeth throughout our life.
The dentures and the implants are the excellent examples to teach us the usefulness of the original
teeth. There are several complications that are related with the oral and dental health that tend us to
seek the services from a dentist. The broken crown is one of these complications that require
intervention from the dentists. The crowns are usually found to be intact for lifetime but in some
cases, these may become broken or get chipped due to different reasons. In these conditions, we
need to see the dentist for an appropriate cure.
What is a crown tooth?
The simplest definition of the dental crown is that; It is a sort of dental restoration that surrounds the
cap of the tooth to make a cap like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As discussed earlier the degree of damage of the crown is responsible for the severity of the
symptoms; for example, the broken crown in hard traumatic injury may develop sharp pain while
the chronic decay may be characterized by the hot and cold sensations.
Is there anything I can do to fix it?
This is the biggest mistake that anyone can make after having the broken crown. The dental crowns
are typical implants sort of object that cannot be fitted without expert dental intervention. The ideas
about rubbing some material on the broken crown or filling it with some material may not only
deteriorate the situation but also create further complications.
Should I replace?
It is strongly advised to replace the dental crown to prevent the chances of further damage to the
tooth. The chipped or the cracked tooth may easily get damaged in case of chewing something or
due to the effect of the beverages or the other hard things. It is better to replace the same as early
as possible.

Poetry Close Reading
The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner written by Randall Jarrell is a poem that introduces three
major ideas in only five lines. These ideas are birth, death, and war. Jarrell is able to accomplish a
lot in this short poem by using diction and syntax such as metaphor and figurative language. The
title of the poem automatically shifts the reader s mind to expect a poem about war and death.
However, after reading the title and seeing how clear it is, when taken literally, line one of the
poem is very confusing. If we try to understand the poem at a basic literal level, here s what s

The speaker s life before war is left far below and even feels like an illusion. Like a dream, it is
gone. When the speaker woke to black flak and the nightmare fighters , he woke up to his worst
nightmare, enemy fighters approaching the bomber. If we take a close look at lines three and
four together, there is a stark contrast. Line three is very peaceful and serene, the words dream ,
life , and earth usually have positive connotations; while line four is certain death, with words
like nightmare and black flak . The last line of the poem is very straightforward, and is almost
prose. It tells us exactly what we need to know. When the bomber got back to the base, they
cleaned the speakers remains out of the turret with a hose. If we continue the metaphor of the
bomber being the mother, we can conclude that the speaker is being born into death through the
womb of the State . The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner by Randall Jarrell is able to accomplish
so many thing with so little lines mainly through the use of metaphor and diction. It explains the
terrors of wars in gruesome detail and explains the ways in which wars, in a sense breed and birth

Due to overexploitation and lack of proper management, many shark species are under
considerable risk of unrecoverable decline with some species having declined to near extinction
in recent years. According to reports, sharks are being killed at an alarming rate of up to 273
million worldwide per year. Some experts predict that if the killing continues at the current rate
many species will be lost forever with potentially devastating implications for our ocean
ecosystems. If shark population is threatened, it could take a very long time to recover. Sharks
are a keystone species which means they are at the top of the food chain and are an apex
predator. Removing them could make the whole structure collapse. Sharks regulate the behavior
of prey species, and prevent them from over grazing vital habitats. Some shark researchers believe
that the intimidation factor caused by sharks may actually have more of an impact on the
ecosystem than what sharks actually eat. For example, scientists in Hawaii found that tiger sharks
had a positive impact on the health of sea grass beds. Turtles, which are the tiger sharks prey,
graze on sea grass. In the absence of tiger sharks, the turtles spent all of their time grazing on the
best quality, most nutritious sea grass, and these habitats were soon destroyed. When tiger sharks

Workers Creating Their Own Exploitation
In a modern society we are led to believe that there is a fair exchange taking place when
workers(working force?) sells their labour power ( Gary Lapon, 2011.).( define this) Karl Marx
believed that the working class were being exploited through laborious jobs. In today s society
wages are determined by the current cost of living within provinces across Canada. Usually the
wage workers receive do not allow for many to live a comfortable life yet we continue to work
these jobs as they feel we have no other option. This feeling of desperation comes from the term
wage slavery (cite ), where one feels as though they are stuck working a job that makes them
unhappy, so they remain feeling successful or are able to meet the cost of living. As a result of
wage slavery, employees come into work on days that they had previously booked off, are
frightened to call in sick when sick and often take abuse from their boss. Employees are showing
up with their work persona, believing that these low wages are equal when in reality they are not
(S.Enns, 2014) Employers profit from their employees without employees being completely aware
of it. Employers want their workers to produce more and produce it efficiently, without increasing

In Literature, writers apply allegory to add various layers of significance to their works.
Furthermore, allegory makes their stories and characters, intricate, so that they represent something
greater than their literal standing. Provided that, how is Lord of the Flies, an allegory for humanity?
As a matter of fact, several characters in the novel represent a larger aspect, and together, unite the
idea of humanity on the Earth. Ralph epitomizes civilization. At the same time, Jack represents a

The final character, Simon, is a religious symbol. Simon exemplifies the spiritual side of man,
for he is compassionate, peaceful, and in conformity with nature. On page 50, Simon is the only
boy helping Ralph build the shelter, proving to be compassionate. His persona is akin to that of
Jesus Christ. Like Jesus, others mock Simon as an outsider distinguishing his behavior as
bizarre or queer . When Simon tells Ralph, All the same. You ll get back all right. I think so,
anyway , Ralph is confused and refers to him as batty (pg. 111). He is also the only one who
hears the Lord of the Flies speak and is first to comprehend that the beast is within each of us.
This act simulates Christ s discussion with the devil during his forty days in the wilderness. The
Lord of the Flies tells him, Fancy thinking the Beast was something you could hunt and kill! (pg.
143). However, because of Simon s uneasiness, he cannot articulate this understanding. On page
89, Simon attempts to tell the group that Maybe it s only us , but no one understands what he
means. Later, when Simon realizes the figure on the mountain is just a dead man , he is killed by
Jack s tribe, for they leapt on to the beast, screamed, struck, bit, tore (pg. 153). There are
acclaimed parallels between Simon s murder and Christ s sacrifice on the cross, but Simon s
epiphany is more of a debunking,

  • 4. Disastrous Self-Cannibalism In Western culture a fundamental belief states that humans are profoundly different from animals. In defense of our position as higher beings, we use culture and rationality to distinguish ourselves from animals and savages. The eighteenth century European man saw himself as the very pinnacle of culture and greatness. Advances in science had enabled man to understand and predict god s world, and innovations in art allowed man to create works of increasing divine beauty. The progress of society was evident and continued to propel mankind to greater status with increasing distance from lowly animals. However, several eighteenth century authors present a different account of the idea of progress. For Jonathan Swift, Alexander Pope, and William... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In particular, Swift shows this theme of human degeneration in A Beautiful Young Nymph Going to Bed (1731). The poem depicts Corinna, a prostitute, as she is removing her makeup and other fashion accessories at the end of the day. However, this nymph s evening practices elicit shock and horror: Corinna Takes off her artificial Hair, plucks out her Crystal Eye, and Untwists a Wire; and from her Gums/ A Set of Teeth completely comes (A Beautiful Young Nymph Going to Bed lines 10, 11, 19 20). This deconstruction of the female form functions as a sort of cannibalism. It mirrors the process by which a butcher might process an animal so that its meat may be served. Indeed, Corinna is self cannibalizing her own body and her own humanity. As her ritual progresses, she Unlaces next her Steel rib d Brodice, which conjures up imagines of metal machinery and suggests that she is less than human and therefore lacks the power of reason that would keep her together. Furthermore, the prostitute s steady progress in revealing her grotesquely fragmented body parallels the same falseness in society that Swift aims to reveal in his poetry. But perhaps most horrifying is imagining how the Corinna, Must ev ry Morn her Limbs unite ( A Beautiful Young Nymph Going to Bed 66). This process of reconstruction only works to hide her true nature, which she disguises by presenting herself as fully human. Ultimately, Corinna is made monstrous by the demands to uphold cultural standards of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Comparison Essay Beowulf In beowulf there are three major battles that Beowulf participate in. The first battle is the battle against grendel which is then followed up by the battle against Grendel s mother, and then finally the last battle takes place against the Dragon. In all three of these battles Beowulf shows great courage and manages to defeat all of these monsters. Although beowulfwas able to defeat these three monsters they were different in some ways but also had some similarities. The first battle takes place against Grendel. Grendel is a demon who descended from Cain. He is a very evil monster who kills many people before beowulf hears about what has taken place. When he finds out beowulf travels to the town to put an end to this monster. He waits in the mead hallfor Grendel to strike again. At first no one believes that beowulf was strong enough but in fact he was. Unlike when beowulf was fighting grendel s mom, beowulf puts aside his armor and sword to fight with just his hands. Grendel proves to be no match for beowulf as he easily defeats the the monster. This is where the first two fights different from one another. In the first fight beowulf for the most part easily defeats grendel but when grendel s mother finds out and seeks revenge beowulf has to put up a much harder fight because grendel s mother is much stronger... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first major difference is that the dragon has no relation to grendel and grendel s mother whereas they did. The fight with the dragon also occurs much later whereas the fight with grendel and his mom happened within days of each other. These differences were major but not the biggest and most dramatic difference between the three. In the other two stories beowulf shows confidence that he will prevail without dying. In the third story beowulf prepares to die in battle. He knows that the dragon is the strongest of all three of the monsters and knows that he will not make it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Alcohol 0.35 0.50ComaComplete unconsciousness Depressed or abolished reflexes Subnormal body temperature Incontinence Impairment of circulation and respiration Possible death 0.45 +DeathDeath from respiratory arrest ________________________________________ Absorption Alcohol is absorbed from all parts of the gastrointestinal tract largely by simple diffusion into the blood. However the small intestine is by far the most efficient region of the gastrointestinal tract for alcohol absorption because of its very large surface area. In a fasting individual, it is generally agreed that 10% to 20% of a dose of alcohol is absorbed from the stomach (the volume of alcohol affects the absorption) and 75% to 80% is absorbed from the small ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Alcohol Content It s not how many drinks that you have, but how much alcohol that you consume. The concentration of the drinks that one ingest can have a slight effect on the peak alcohol concentration due to the differences in absorption rate of different concentrations of alcohol. Alcohol is most rapidly absorbed when the concentration of the drink is between 10% and 30%. Below 10% the concentration gradient in the gastrointestinal tract is low and slows absorption and the added volumes of liquid involved slow gastric emptying. On the other hand concentrations higher than 30% tend to irritate the mucous membranes of the gastrointestinal tract and the pyloric sphincter, causing increased secretion of mucous and delayed gastric emptying. Food Food taken along with alcohol results in a lower, delayed blood alcohol concentration peak (the point of greatest intoxication). There are two major factors involved in this phenomenon. First, because alcohol is absorbed most efficiently in the small intestine, the ingestion of food can slow down the absorption of alcohol into one s system. The pyloric valve at the bottom of the stomach will close in order to hold food in the stomach for digestion and thus keep the alcohol from reaching the small intestine. ... • 7. The United States Forest Service The United States Forest Service is in favor of logging to a certain extent but there are several groups that oppose logging in the United States. Groups such as NativeForest.org and EarthRoots.org state that logging in the United States and specifically in industrial areas has led to deforestation and near extinction of many animals. Forests cover 31% of the land area on the planet. They produce vital oxygen and provide homes for people and wildlife. Many of the world s most threatened and endangered animals live in forests, and 1.6 billion people rely on benefits forests offer, including food, fresh water, clothing, traditional medicine and shelter. However, forests around the world are under threat from deforestation, jeopardizing these benefits. Deforestation comes in many forms, including fires, clear cutting for agriculture, ranching and development, unsustainable logging for timber, and degradation due to climate change. This impacts people s livelihoods and threatens a wide range of plant and animal species. Some 46 58 thousand square miles of forest are lost each year, which is equivalent to 36 football fields every minute. Forests play a critical role in mitigating climate change because they act as a carbon sink soaking up carbon dioxide that would otherwise be free in the atmosphere and contribute to ongoing changes in climate patterns. Deforestation undermines this important carbon sink function. It is estimated that 15% of all greenhouse gas emissions are the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Trade Policy Policies U.S. Trade Policy Throughout history, the United States trading policies have shifted from early protectionism intended to generate revenue and support domestic industry growth to a high degree of free trade within the international trade market (Carbaugh, 2015). In between, policy changes designed to increase and decrease tariffs were enacted due to pressure from politicians, economists, industries, citizens and other countries. Yet, emphasized in the ensuing paragraphs, America s continuous efforts to maintain a sufficient amount of trade tariffs has continuously led to fluctuations in the domestic economy. Along with the country s practice of protectionism, the policies that influenced the major changes in tariffrates include the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the initial tariffs laws prospered enough to yield over 90 percent of the federal government s total revenue, pressures from developing industry leaders urging for a higher degree of protection needed to combat growing foreign competition overwhelmed the governments revenue motives (Carbaugh, 2015). Highlighted by Alexander Hamilton s propositions to the federal government in 1791, actions in the form of higher import tariffs and government subsidies were essential to the promotion of manufacturing within the United States (Irwin, 1996). Consequently, these views fueled a growing debate and struggle between the North s industry led economy who favored higher duties on imports and the South s import dependent economy, which relied on lower costs (Carbaugh, 2015). With the government s passing of the Tariff of Abominations in 1828, their intentions of promoting the purchase of domestic goods by increasing the price of cheaper foreign products, mostly from English exporters, enraged the Southern economy due to the record setting tariff duties that were the highest in the world (Wilson, 2009). Additionally, the Southern states desired lower tariffs in order encourage the trade of cotton and tobacco, which were supplied by Southern farmers and plantation owners (Wilson, 2009). INTRODUCTION The automotive industry in India is one of the largest automotive markets in the world, previously one of the fastest growing markets globally. It started out as a small venture in the 1940s but witnessed a rapid growth with the entry of some big manufacturers like Mahindra Mahindra and Maruti in mid and late 1900s. In 2000, this industry became an important sector of the Indian economy and a major foreign exchange earner for the country. The Shiv group was one of the largest industrial groups in India at this time established in the early 1900s. Having over 20 companies and a turnover of US $1 billion, they were market leaders in the sectors like tea, auto parts, electronics, finance, pharmaceuticals etc. In 2000, Shiv industry was going through a rough patch experiencing a steep fall in its earnings. The key reasons were its inability to cope up with the changing needs and competitive scenario due to internationalization of this market. The challenges of quality based competition in high tech product market and price based competition in low tech product market became a big concern for Shiv s management. • 11. September 11 Attacks and World Trade Center Watching the movie 102 minutes for the second time opened my eyes to the tragedy of 9/11 more than it did the first time. Being only six years old at the time of the incident, I didn t truly understand the magnitude of the disaster until years later. The quality of the movie made it very clear to me just how painful being around the World Trade Centerbuildings during the attack was, not only for the people in the buildings that were hit, but for the people around as well. The feeling of helplessness that the bystanders must have felt in addition to the feeling of fear must have been unbearable. Second I think that people weren t necessarily sure that what they saw was a real event. Sure, it clearly happened, but the events seemed fictional because of their magnitude. Overall I think that those who did not turn off their cameras did something positive because we would not see so much about the attacks or ever forget them with this much visual coverage of it. I think that the events of 9/11 made a huge impact on those around that survived. In my opinion, I think that I would have felt so unbearable helpless in a situation like this. I have an altruistic sense of being so not being able to help those around me makes me feel like I failed my life s goal of helping others even though I feel that I might be in danger. 102 Minutes differs from other documentations because it is a mix of many different people s perspectives and real experiences. It shows the true, raw emotions of the attacks rather than just demonstrating the factual event. I think that 102 Minutes was more effective that other movies made about 9/11 because it showed everyone the real events, not Hollywood altered, not hiding and bias, it showed the real hurt that not only New York, but the country ... In other words, those with the gold have the power as well as those with the power have the gold. History books will discuss the general reasons for war such as freedom from adversity or freedom from religion. But the real issue for any war is the thirst for power and control; and the means to finance them are the economic issues. Nations will endure years of fighting for power and control. France and England fought each other for more than a hundred years to have control of the Channel trade routes . 1 This century of warring was known as The Hundred Years War and is the longest warin record history. Flemish weavers as well as English sheep growers depended on this trade for their business. In 1336, Philip VI arrested all the English merchants in Flanders and took away all the privileges of the Flemish towns and the craft guilds. Resulting in the Flemings revolting against the French control and making an alliance with England. 9 Consequently, the flourishing market of the industrial cities of Ghent, Bruges, Antwerp and Ypres were naturally coveted by the Kings of France and England. Moreover, the Bordeaux harbor was within the borders of English Gascony and was the center of the shipping and trading industry. Commodities such as grains, dairy products, dyes and salt would be shipped into Bordeaux via the Dordogne and Garonne Rivers and the merchants were charged a customs fee for these products. Analysis Of Fernand Leger s The Divers With most of the 20 elements and principles evident in the painting The Divers (Red and Black) by Fernand Leger, we can achieve a better understanding and cohesiveness of this piece. Additionally, alongside with his other paintings, the medium used for this painting was also oil on canvas. In this painting, Leger incorporates a specific style called Cubismand incorporates a strong simple imagery. The artist s personal style consists of bold use of colorwhile combining his art as something that everyone can enjoy. A brief formal analysis of this painting will show us how he used the main principle of emphasis to showcase the characteristics of the humanbody progressing in space. In order to demonstrate these specific characteristics, Leger incorporates many different types of elements into this piece. In this painting, color plays an important role. The shapes of the blue squares contrast altogether with the other shapes and also, with the mutated beige background. Leger uses numerous colors such as the neon yellow, red, blue, black, and green in order to reveal that the colors are free and therefore, these colors exist in space. As mentioned earlier, this painting included a variety of different shapes; there are two different types of shape that can be seen in this painting. The first type is geometric or regular shapes such as the squares, circles, and rectangles. The second, on the other hand, are organic and freeform shapes such as the feet, hands, and face. Next, Leger incorporates many lines throughout this portrait. From curved lines to a single horizontal line, Leger includes each different type to develop a sense of movement, or rhythm. The curved lines makes the viewer s eyes circle around the piece to further realize the symbolism. For space, Leger leaves many of the corner as negative space. However, the corners of this painting are not the only ones Leger leaves as space. Because the shapes and colors are kept simple, there s also quite a series of distance between the shapes even throughout the whole entire painting. Again, because of the simplicity of the shapes, even the texture of this painting can be seen as smooth. The painting does not involve any harsh or rugged lines, and is ... Summarizing the study, they selected 12 Murrah buffalo that had previously calved 2 or 3 before and were in early, 50 70 days, lactation during the study. The trial took place for a span of 60 days, 30 during the May June months and the other 30 in the August September months. 6 buffalo were placed under constantly running water showers (Group 1), while the other 6 were allowed to wallow in a water pond from 11 A.M. to 4 P.M (Group 2). They collected blood samples from both groups on 3 day intervals for both trial time periods, specifically testing for plasma thyroxine (T4), triiodothyronine (T3), cortisol, and insulinhormones. During the study the buffalo had ad lib water and access to green maze fodder. They wanted to also see how differences in humidity would impact the effectiveness of the cooling methods and how it would impact the buffalos milk and feed yields. The average temperature humidity index (THI) was 80.3% during the hot dry season and 83.6 during the hot humid season. The results showed that the buffalo that wallowed in the water pond had a higher average plasma T4 and insulin level compared to those under water showers in the hot dry season. Given: x^2+3x+2=0 You can solve this equation to find two values of x. I could also give you an equation which linked x and y explicitly, and you could find a relationship between the two which, given a value of x would give you a value of y. You ve been doing this now for many years. Now we re going to add a hugely powerful tool to our mathematical arsenal. We re going to allow our equations to include information about gradients of the function...let s see what this means... We re going to take everything that you learnt about integration and turn it into a way to model and understand the world around us. This is a very powerful statement and indeed differential equations are without a doubt the most powerful mathematical tool we have to understand the behaviour of everything from fundamental particles to populations, economies, weather, flow of wealth, heat, fluids, the motion of planets, the life of stars, the flight of an aircraft, the trajectory of a meteor, the way a pendulum swings, the way a ponytail swings (see paper on this here), the way fish move, the way algae grow, the way a neuron fires, the way a fire spreads...and so much more. Even when there were new breakthrough in medicine, doctors, such as physicians, surgeons and apothecaries barely used them. Medical training in the early nineteenth century was very different and diverse. Even though some people had degrees from colleges that were very advanced and very known, some were apprenticed to apothecaries where they spent most of their time capping bottles and rolling pills (Youngson 12). Still others were quacks and drug peddlers who practiced freely with no legal sanctions against them. In the United Kingdom, there were three groups of authentic medical groups. They were the physician, the surgeons, and the apothecaries. Some would call them the Royal College of Physician, the Royal College of Surgeons, and the Society of apothecaries. Physicians were taught in universities and people said that when it came to medicine, the knew the most. They were not allowed to take the roll of a surgeon or give out drugs like an apothecary until 1858. They were only allowed to examine patients, diagnose disease, and give medicine. We often see in all aspects the negatives that adversity leads to. So this begs the question, does adversity lead to growth? We see adversity from the Columbian exchange through growing populations and new technology. In the New York Times article by Andrew E. Although many families were not able to realize the ideal white picket fence suburb experience which one often imagines when speaking of the suburbs, they still created a suburb of their own. The desire for a suburban home to call their own was largely due to the notion that a home provided a sense of security; it was safety net (Nicolaides and Wiese 2006:213). For many poor Americans building a home was a long process that involved the whole family and came with a lot of sacrifice. Adler s paper, How to Mark a Book, he argues the best way to get the most out of reading is to mark the book or paper, leaving ones thoughts on the pages. Some say this slows them down, or leaves behind a messy, ruined book, but Adler claims reading slower and writing thoughts down allows the reader and author to have a conversation that will enhance the readers understanding of the text. Never mind the way forward [on the road], you couldn t get without money and they had none, (p.94). Since the Bedouins are helping Crete, Crete will take off fifty percent for the vessels the Bedouins use, on the Eastern Mediterranean. In return, the Bedouins will provide an army for Crete to block the Holy Roman Empire from using the trade routes. One army will not hold off all of Rome, so Crete agreed to partner up with the Ottomans and have the Ottoman army tag along with the Bedouins. Therefore, Crete will allow the Ottomans no taxation on the eastern sea. Crete shall do this because they have harsh history with Rome. Understanding Justification and Righteousness INTRODUCTION John Calvin described justification as the main hinge on which religion turns, while Martin Luther described justification as the doctrine on which the church stands or falls. DEFINING TERMS Two terms must be defined before we go further: righteousness and justification. The basis of this paper is to look at the doctrine of justification as Paul presents it in Romans, but clarification of these two terms will be helpful at this point. As N.T. Packer explains, there is virtually no lexical support to interrupt to justify to mean to make righteous. In Romans 3:19 4:9, Paul provides explanation how God can be both just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus (Rom. 3:26). A fundamental difference between the Old Testament and the book of Romans is that no one has the ability to fulfill the law, there is no one righteous (Rom. 3:10; 20). In verse 21 Paul tells us the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law and that this righteousness is from God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe (v. 22). Therefore, when Paul tells us one is justified by faith apart from the works of the law (3:28) we understand justification being defined as a judicial act of God. And by the atoning work of Christ, God reckons sinners absolved from sin, their penalty dismissed, declared righteous, and placed in a right relationship with God. PAUL S CASE FOR JUSTIFICATION Paul presents his readers with a clear and simple thesis in the first three books of Romans: mankind is inherently in opposition to God, none is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks God (3:10 11). Jesus refuses, reminding Satan that the Scriptures say do not tempt the Lord your God. Only three powers can do this, says the Inquisitor: miracle, mystery, and authority. In the first temptation, Jesus rejected the first power, and now is rejecting the second. The purpose of this paper is to take a look at the supplement that most athletes use, which is known as creatine, and to see if it has any benefits or none at all. Like Jesus, others mock Simon as an outsider distinguishing his behavior as bizarre or queer . When Simon tells Ralph, All the same. You ll get back all right. I think so, anyway , Ralph is confused and refers to him as batty (pg. 111). He is also the only one who hears the Lord of the Flies speak and is first to comprehend that the beast is within each of us. This act simulates Christ s discussion with the devil during his forty days in the wilderness. The Lord of the Flies tells him, Fancy thinking the Beast was something you could hunt and kill!
