Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare
William Shakespeare s Merchant of Venice is a story about man seeking justice for the forfeiture of his
bond. Shylock the Jew created a bond loaning three thousand ducats to his rival Antonio. In the event
that the loan could not be paid back, Shylock was entitled to a pound of flesh from the breast of
Antonio. Antonio s invested the money in his merchant ships hoping to gain profit. Unfortunately he
loses his ships at sea, losing everything Shylock had loaned him. Shylock happily takes Antonio to
court in hopes of receiving that pound of flesh as a result of the forfeiture of his bond. However due to
manipulation of the court by an illegitimate lawyer, Shylock is ruled as the guilty party of the case.

The impartial Duke once again tries to bend the law by persuading Shylock to take Bassanio s offer of
six thousand ducats to compensate for the three thousand Antonio owes him. Shylock counters with a
key point arguing that the Duke and other higher position authorities own slaves and no one could not
tell them how to treat them because they own them: You have among you many a purchased
slave...you use in abject and in slavish parts, Because you bought them. Shall I say to you, Let them be
free! ...You will answer The Slaves are ours . (4.1 90 9) According to the laws of Venice, which all
should abide by, Shylock owns that flesh and no person, not even the judge, has the right to tell him
what to do with it. Once again the court is showing bias towards Shylock, further displaying the
corruption of this court. The final point in conveying the aggressiveness of this court to go against
Shylock occurs during the closing argument from Portia, disguised as a lawyer named Balthazar.
Portia argues that Shylock was in fact legally justified in obtaining a pound of Antonio s flesh.
However she then points out that if he sheds one drop of blood when he cuts it, Venice will then have
the right to confiscate his lands and property. Portia shows her conflict of interest against Shylock by
then saying Thou shalt have justice more than thou desir st. (4 1.315) This quote means

Culture War By Morris Fiorina
In the book, Culture War by Morris Fiorina, his political stance on Americans not being polarized has
not been caused by a growing significance of the political parties today, rather a change in the
government over the years. He believes that the two parties, Democrat, and Republican are the most
polarized while the public is not. Abramowitz argues that there is no polarized relationship between
the American people and the political parties. He believes the polarization is reflected through those
who are politically informed and those who are not. While recognizing both of these views, Fiorina
and Abramowitz will give us background knowledge on why America is or not polarized and what are
the misconceptions that shape that further ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It demonstrates that the media is profoundly biased and looks for anything to keep America divided.
Fiorina argues the people s choices are polarized, not their position. This is based on the voter s choice
and the candidate s position of who they are voting for.
Fiorina examines many issues that are misconceptions about why America is not polarized. First, we
have to recognize why Fiorina believes that Americans are not polarized, he thinks that there is no
divide in America although, there is a great separation between the two parties and their beliefs.
However, Americans are reasonable when it comes to their views. For instance, red, and blue states,
he believes that aren t many differences between the two. Most if not majority of those who identify
themselves as Democrat or Republican are moderate. Fiorina offers us an example, Table 3.4 offered

States were about 44% while blue states were 39%, both were very similar, or another example is

they are both relatively equal. Another example is abortion, one of the many issues that America

Repercussions Of Child Abuse Essay
Repercussions of child abuse and measures taken
Madam Yap was outraged after she discovered scratches and reddened ears on her daughter s face
when she picked her up from her nursery, Chiltern House at Forum shopping mall on May 22.
Madam Yap tried asking her daughter about what caused the marks on her face but she refused to say
anything. She kept making the action of zipping her mouth and said, cannot say, cannot say . But after
assurance from her mother that she will not tell anybody, her daughter revealed that her nursery
teacher had brought her and another girl from her class in to the diaper changing room and pulled their
ears and rubbed their faces roughly forcing them to say they liked her as a teacher.
Madam Yap then contacted the other daughter s mother, addressed as Madam Tan and upon
examination on her daughter also found the same marks as indicated by Madam Yap. Madam Yap
made a police report when she brought her child for a check up at KK Women s and Children s
Hospital and brought up the matter along with other parents on May 25 to the school s principal. ...

The Importance Of Male Oppression Of Women
For much of history man has been considered the only sex and women, the Other and as a result men
views and opinions have created myths of what women in society are expected to conform to and
exhibit. Throughout time men have developed and perpetuated the expectation that a woman exists to
fulfill male s sexual needs. Man is the superior being and his ideal women is one that will
unquestionably submit to his domination (201). Moreso, men s domination over women places women
into state of dependence. Women are largely reliant on men for economic necessities and security.
However, women s reliance on men leaves the vulnerable to male s oppression on them. Male
oppression places significant burden on women yet, male does not need to take responsibility or place
any concern to the fact of how oppressive their superiority is on women because it is intended by
nature and thus nature endows men with the right to oppress. Furthermore, women are oppressed
because to men, they are a possession that men behold, objects used within their lives to fulfill their
domestic needs within the home, their sexual needs both for pleasure and to procreate, and to nature
the future generation of men and women where masculine dominance and feminine subjectivity will
continue to persist. As Simone de Beauvoir writes woman is her husband s prey, his property (171).
Males continual superiority in society has served to inflate man s ego to a immense degree where he
believes that his place on earth

The Recorded History Of Ghana
The recorded history of Ghana begins in 1471, when Portuguese traders landed on the coast in search
of gold, ivory, and spices. Following the Portuguese came the Dutch, the Danes, the Swedes, the
Prussians, and the British. Commerce in gold gave way to the slave trade until the latter was outlawed
by Great Britain in 1807. The 19th century brought a gradual adjustment to legitimate trade, the
withdrawal of all European powers except the British, and many wars involving the Ashanti, who had
welded themselves into a powerful military confederacy; their position as the principal captors of
slaves for European traders had brought them into conflict with the coastal tribes. British troops
fought seven wars with the Ashanti from 1806 to 1901, when their kingdom was annexed by the
British crown.(Encyclopedia, 2007) Amada (2010) stated that Ghana s history prior to the 15th
century is concentrated primarily on oral traditions, however it is believed that people may have
inhabited what is present day Ghana from about 1500 B.C.E. European contact with Ghana began in
1470. In 1482, the Portuguese built a trading settlement there. Shortly thereafter for three centuries,
the Portuguese, English, Dutch, Danes and Germans all controlled different parts of the coast.
Colonial period: 1902 1957 Amada (2010) also explained that in 1821, the British took control of all
of the trading posts located on the Gold Coast. From 1826 to 1900, the British then fought battles
against the native

Therapeutic Benefits Of Anise And Alpapinene
Anise has become a popular remedy in North America for hundreds of years as a carminative, a herb
that relieves gas pains and bloating. Other traditional uses include colic, rheumatism, and the familiar
licorice flavored cough drops. The therapeutic power of phytochemicals of licorice, including creosol
and alpapinene, is commonly used in herbal remedies to break up congestion and ease coughing.
Anise is an expectorant and antiseptic for mucous membranes as well. This means that licorice does
double duty: it will kill bacteria while clearing the lungs of congestion. Anise and fennel close ties

The last sections concern about the uncertainties in multiple inputs. The project ends up to be
undeniably risky where in optimistic cases, the project is favourable to both the social and private
stakeholders; but in pessimistic cases, the detriment could become terribly worse. The ultimate choice
then depends on the attitude towards risk of the decision maker but generally, further investigations on
different aspects of the project should be implemented in order to make an accurate decision.
I. INTRODUCTION
The report advises on the possibility of the project related to gains and losses from which many parties
may suffer such as the Australian government, Tasmanian government and labour, WAL, etc. Those
benefits and costs are particularly different among stakeholders.
Generally, the company wants to take advantage of an ideal climate and the currently developing
walnut industry to build up a plantation zone for walnut trees in eastern Tasmania which lasts for 20
years. This WAL s new project is expected to achieve its full capacity after four years operating and to
earn extra revenue from timber at the end of its life.
WAL supports the project as it can cover partly the total amount of Australia s import walnuts which is
as large as 4,000 tonnes of kernels per year. The Australian government prefers to take this into
account along with revenues from tax and subsidies spending in order to allow a subsidised

Feminism taken to Extremes in A Streetcar Named Misogyny
As women s studies programs have proliferated throughout American universities, feminist re readings
of certain classic authors have provided us with the most nonsensical interpretations of these authors
texts. A case in point is that of Kathleen Margaret Lant s interpretation of Tennessee Williams A
Streetcar Named Desire in her essay entitled A Streetcar Named Misogyny. Throughout the essay, she
continually misreads Williams intention, which of course causes her to misunderstand the play itself.
Claiming that the play has proved vexing to audiences, directors, actors, readers, and critics (Lant

Stanley s rape of Blanche is the action that sends him beyond the pale of civilized existence. That he
gets away with murder hardly justifies his action; indeed, the audience s feelings of disgust with his
character and his behavior are only heightened when he is left unpunished.
Ironically, one of Lant s feminist mentors, Andrea Dworkin, whom she cites thrice in her essay, has
written in her book Intercourse that there is nothing in the text of the play, despite the way it is
sometimes staged, to suggest that she [Blanche] wanted it [i.e. to be raped] all along. In fact, there is a
pronounced and emotionally vivid history of her wanting its opposite a sexuality of tenderness and
sensitivity (Dworkin 44). Another of Lant s mentors, Susan Brownmiller, whom she cites twice in her
paper, has written that Tennessee Williams has always treated the rape theme with sensitivity. Stanley
Kowalski s rape of Blanche DuBois in Streetcar Named Desire is also no glamorization, for Blanche,
however damaged, represents fragility and aspiration while Stanley is symbolic of the darker forces of
nihilism (Brownmiller 337, footnote). It is ironic that Lant should so differ in her interpretation of the
play from two of her feminist mentors. Lant is trying, perhaps, to out Herodias Herodias.
After the rape, again in Lant s opinion, Blanche is no longer fully human, but is simply a metaphor for
all that is vile about women. But in the relationship between

Social Class In The Victorian Era
Women s Social Class in the Victorian Era In the Victorian era women were held at a different
standard than the men in the Victorian era. In the novels of Jane Eyre and Tess of the d Urberville the
social class of the women was challenged by both leading ladies in the novels. Exploring both novels I
will you examples from both to show how social class effected women in the Victorian era. Beginning
with Jane Eyre, the novel itself is a critical of Victorian England s strict hierarchy. Bronte explores the
complex social placements of governesses which was the most prominent exploration of this theme.
Jane was a figure of an ambiguous class standing, and subsequently, a source of high tension for the
characters around her in the novel. Jane s overall mannerisms and education are those of high
standings, of those of aristocrat. A Victorian governesses, who tutored young children in life skills
such as etiquette and as well as academics; Jane was expected to embody the culture of the
aristocracy. However, as a paid employee she was more or less treated as servants; consequently Jane
remains broke and powerless while residing a Thornfield. Jane s understanding of the double
standards against her become clear when she accepts her feelings for Rochester. Jane is his
intellectual, but not social equal. Even before Rochester s big secret about Bertha Mason, Jane was
hesitant to marry him because she knew that she would feel like she owed him for condescending to
marry her. In chapter seventeen, Jane s distress appears to be a critique of the Victorian class attitudes.
Jane herself, as portrayed in the novel, is very vocal about speaking against class prejudice in
particular moments in the book. An example, in chapter twenty three she chews out Rochester: Do you
think, because I am poor, obscure, plain, and little, I am soulless and heartless? You think wrong! I
have as much soul as you and full as much heart! And if God had gifted me with some beauty and
much wealth, I should have made it as hard for you to leave me, as it is now for me to leave you.
Sadly it is important to state that nowhere in Jane Eyre are the society s boundaries bent. In the end the
Jane is only able to marry Rochester as her equal

The Global Supply Chain Network
Executive Summary
The global supply chain network is often faces challenges in many directions. Currently the
environmental issues and the exhaustion of natural resources leads to complications and become the
prime factors which affects the cost, time and effort in global logistics and supply chain management.
An analysis of the Montreal based Cirque de soleil is done with various factors and criteria for
evaluation of the key issues. The key issues are distribution complexities, increasing transportation
cost, production inefficiency, delivery lead times and logistics partnership strategies. The objective is
to streamline the global supply chain network by redesigning the existing system with new integrated
model using CPFR (Collaborative Planning Forecasting and Replenishment). This concept is
effectively supported by the SAP System which integrates the demand management, better sales
forecasting, effective distribution and timely replenishment.
The analysis results with the identification of locations for the new distribution model and
substantiated with the rationale of site selection considering all criteria s. The implementation and the
SAP integration describe the action plans and come out with the pros and cons of the proposed supply
chain system. And finally concludes with the pros and cons of the new system. The objectives of the

In your experiment is the Karo® hypertonic or hypotonic to the egg? The KARO syrup is hypertonic
to the egg therefore there is a lower concentration outside of the (in the solution) than inside of the

C. Historically certain colligative properties freezing point depression, boiling point elevation, and
osmotic pressure have been used to determine molecular mass. (Now there are instrumental methods
to determine this.) Of these three, osmotic pressure is the most sensitive and gives the best results.
Molecular mass can be found according the following equation:
Π = MRT
Where: Π = osmotic pressure,
M = molarity of solution,
R = the ideal gas constant (0.0821 L×atm/mol×K), and
T = Kelvin temperature.

5.15 mmHg. What is its molecular mass?
Since the gas constant, R, requires atmospheres as pressure units, we have to convert 5.15 mmHg to
atmospheres:
5.15 mm Hg * 1 atm/760 mm Hg = 0.00678 atm.

Disadvantages Of Integrated Care
Integrated care can mean different things to different people. Integrated care reflects a concern to
improve a patients experience and achieve better efficiency and value from the delivery of care. It
aims to provide a seamless, better coordinated and consistent care (Shaw, 2011: 6). An interlinked
approach has been strongly endorsed in government documents recently as effective methods to link
care is a pressing policy concern. However moves towards integration have been treated with
suspicion and scepticism by many due to the barriers and challenges which are still open for debate
(Birrell, 2006).

The White Man s Burden Imperialism
The author of the poem, The White Man s Burden, was Rudyard Kipling who was born in 1865 in
Bombay. As a young person, he lived in India, but at the age of six he was taken to England and left
for five years at a foster home at Southsea so that he could receive a formal British education. He went
to school in England and continued his education before returning to his home place of Bombay in
1882, where he worked as a journalist for seven years. Kipling was an accomplished journalist, writer,
poet and author. Kipling s work was influenced by the Imperialistic era in which he lived. During this
era of Imperialism, European powers practiced a foreign policy of expanding its influence around the
world; both peacefully and by force .Kipling witnessed the loss of lives on both sides, the British and
the inhabitants of India, but still believed that the British had a right to control India and also a
responsibility to civilize the Indians. This belief was reflected in his poem, The White Man s Burden,

Price Elasticity of Demand
Price Elasticity of Demand
T s Jean Shop sells designer jeans. The latest trend setter has been Capri cuffed blue jeans. The
demand for the Capri jeans has been very high with teenagers and young women. The business has
increased its supply of Capri jeans due to the high demand. The owner, Terri Johnson, contemplates
increasing the price from $9.00 to $10.00. Ms. Johnson needs to know the response of the consumers
to the increased price. According to McConnell and Brue (2004), the Price Elasticity of Demand
measures the rate of response of quantity demanded due to a price change (p. 1).

In addition to that, the client gets flexibility in resources and workforce size and logistics fix costs turn

Disadvantages of using a 3PL:
Loss of control
One particular disadvantage is the loss of control a client has by working with 3PL companies.
Eminently in outbound logistics when the 3PL provider completely assumes the communication and
interacting with a firm s customer or supplier. By having a good and continuous communication with
their clients, most 3PL s counter and try to charm away such doubts. Some 3PL s even paint the clients

Information Technology (IT)
The IT systems of the provider and the client must operate together. Technology help increase
visibility for the client by way of continuous status updates via Dispatch Management Software and

The Movie Begins With A Long Shot Of The Background Greenery
The movie begins with a long shot of the background greenery which transitions into a close shot of
Saul. Saul is calm like the greenery and his expression conveys the comfort of the background,
contrasting the chaos ensuing around him. Another member of the Sonderkommando shuffles into
position, joining the shot, and says, Lets go . They begin to usher groups of people in another
direction. It is clear now that they are taking people off the trains and moving them to the camps.
There are loud sounds in the background ranging from babies crying to the grunts of someone being
punched. There is a hand held camera on Saul as he continues shepherding, only stopping to salute
someone walking by. He does what he is told without question ... Show more content on

The next stage for the prisoners is to enter the showers . The background noise of this scene starts with
another officer telling the prisoners they must clean up so they can move to their jobs at the camp.
They are convinced they will be useful craftsmen or nurses, etc. Saul does not tell the truth, but keeps
his blank expression like he is taught to do. This is another example of Saul tuning out the injustices
occurring so he can survive. The focus of the scene is strictly on Saul, except when he helps undress
someone, they come into focus. This highlights that he is dealing with humans, even though he moves
around them mechanically, like mannequins. Once the people are undressed, Saul again avoids eye
contact as they chaotically are pushed into the showers . Saul is conditioned to treat them like objects,
triggering the violence to be ignored. When the men and women are in the showers he mechanically
gathers the prisoner s belongings disregarding that they are people s possessions. He is overlooking
the humanity around him and strictly doing his job. Once that job is done he moves onto the next like
he is programmed. The next task is helping hold the door shut. As Saul and the camera move closer to
the door, the screams grow louder. It is clear to the audience that it is not just a shower, but the gas
chambers. Again, Saul s emotionless expression is contrasted with the screams and cries heard behind
the doors. His lack of

Throughout the course of each person s life, the journey for life appreciation is tested. Many paths are
taken to find the value of it, but when found, it includes the decisions of choosing what s valuable.

Sexualization In Advertising
It s been a common practice of American society to shame sexual promiscuity while simultaneously
using sex and sexual innuendos to sell everything from music to shampoo. When big companies use
this ad tactic it surprises people and angeries the feminists of the internet; even though it s been a
practice since ads started targeting more than one demographic. Why are women s panties so
sexualized? If you think about it, they re just a piece of cotton spandex cloth with some lace or a bow.
Advertisers have taken this sexualization and ran with it and it plays into the beauty myth, During the

Male nipples and female nipples really aren t that different, yet the stigma around the nipple is that
women s nipples are a sexy intimate part of the body but the male nipple can be flashed around
without a care in the world. The female body is nothing to be so sexualized. Institutions across the
United States have used this stigma to negatively affect women in schools, workplaces, and in simple
everyday life. On YouTube there are videos upon videos of high school girls getting dress code
violations for wearing distracting clothing that simply reveals a collar bone. The schools claim that the
clothing is distracting for male students but that s just an insult to both parties. The sexualization of
the female body has gotten to preposterous levels, The more legal and material hindrances women
have broken through, the more strictly and heavily and cruelly images of female beauty have come to
weigh upon us (Wolfe,486). Women have fought hard to overcome prejudices previously held but a
simple collarbone could label them as a harlot.
In conclusion, advertisers have cashed in on female sexuality, the appeal of youth and the
objectification of women to sell us products. Is it wrong for advertisers to do this? The decision comes
down to the consumer. If a person believes an ad is objectifying women or the beauty myth, the
consumer can always choose a different product to

Similarities Between Matthew And The Gospel Of Luke
The Bible has four gospels but, only two of them contain the nativity story. The two gospels that have
the nativity story are the Gospel of Matthew and the Gospel of Luke. Both are similar on a literary
level which can be explained by the synoptic problem. The Gospel of Mark and the source Q were the
basis of these two gospels. Matthew and Luke shared sources but, they had their individual sources
too. The genealogy, the nativity, and the childhood of Jesus played significant roles within the
respective gospels. All components helped both authors generate a unique message to their audience.

The theory, Special Luke, is proven many times within Luke s portrayal of Jesus s genealogy, birth,
and young childhood. The Gospel of Luke began with chronicle of John the Baptist. An angel
appeared to Zechariah, the father of John, and announced that John the Baptist would be born. This
was a unique beginning because John the Baptist paved the way for Jesus and his ministry. Mary was
then visited by Angel Gabriel who announced the birth of Jesus. Mary then relied [h]ere am I, the
servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word (Luke 1:38). The narrative continued on
with Mary visiting her cousin Elizabeth, John the Baptist s mother. Elizabeth then gives birth to her
son and on the eighth day he is circumcised and named John. Luke decided to tell the nativity story in
Mary s perspective. This emphasized how everyone was accepted in God s kingdom and women were
disciples of God. Joseph and Mary had to travel to Judea from Nazareth, their hometown, for
registration. This led Mary to deliver Jesus in a barn somewhere in Bethlehem. Shepherds nearby were
notified of the Messiah s birth through angels. Eight days after Jesus s birth, he was circumcised and
named. Jesus was then presented to God in the Temple in Jerusalem. The holy family then returns to
Nazareth. By age twelve, Jesus and his family went to the Temple in Jerusalem for the festival of

Obesity Of Special Needs Children
Obesity in Special Needs Children Childhood obesity in children with special needs is higher than in
children who do not have special needs. Providing exercise programs, promoting healthy eating
habits, and informing residential neighborhoods in helping to promote physical activity for children

medical and psychosocial problem that has its origin in both genetic and environmental factors
(Polfuss, Simpson, Greenley, Zhang, Sawin, 2017, p. 1071). While age, gender, life experiences,

Many programs and models help in indicating health conditions among various people. The
International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health model (ICF) is an approach to
identifying variables contributing to a person s overall health. This model consists of health
(condition, personal dimension, ({participation restriction, activity limitation, and body structure and
function impairments}), and contextual factors ({personal and environmental factors}) (Abeysekara et
al., 2014, p. 509). Even with programs that promote healthy eating habits among children and youth
with special health care needs, parental feeding behaviors are a concern as well. The problem seems to
be that weight related concerns develop among parent and child. Parents are oblivious to the fact when
purchasing food, preparing food, pressuring the child to eat when not hungry, they are contributing to
the problem at hand (Polfuss et al., 2017, p. 1087). Many parents focus more on appointments in order
to help their child, they forget about healthy eating habits. After finishing a day full of appointments,
parents feel they are putting a burden on their child when trying to engage them in physical activities.
Instead they reward the child with movies, games, sweets, and rest. Giving parents insight on how to
effectively encourage physical activity and helping to promote healthy dietary habits could be useful.

Jfk Campaign Essay
During the 1960 election between John F. Kennedy and Richard M. Nixon, the Kennedy campaign
created a jingle, and then adapted it into a political campaign ad, unique from any other at its time.
This ad as well as the context of the times is ultimately helped JFK get elected as president in the 1960
election. First I will briefly explain the context of the 1960 election and the issues surrounding the
time. Next I will introduce the Kennedy Jingle political ad, and finally I will analyze the persuasive
powers of the jingle, and the effect it had on the election of JFK. The presidential election of 1960 fell
right in the time of a heated Cold War with the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union also had just taken a
lead in the space race by launching the Sputnik satellite ( Kennedy Nixon Debates U.S. Presidents ).
The stress of the spread of communism and the issues with civil rights and desegregation had divided
the nation. This raised a lot of questions about democracy in the United States. At this time in history

Casual Wear By James Merrill
As humans in order to connect and relate to those around us we tend to judge other people and what
they believe in. If we agree with them about a topic then we are able to connect with them by
discussing the similar opinions we have on that specific topic. If we disagree with them on a topic then
we can examine why and look at the topic from a different perspective. Often though, if we do not
agree with someone else s beliefs or opinions, we will criticize them without making much of an effort
to understand where they are coming from. Along with having a closed mind to others opinions, we do
not look at our own opinions to see how they could be flawed or be seen as absurde. In James Merrill
s poem Casual Wear the author uses contrasting images to drive a point across to the reader about how
we are hypocrites when we criticize others values and what they will do to make their opinion known
and standing up for what they believe in, instead believing that we are innocent when we make our
own opinions known. Merrill can see that we are hypocrites in thinking that we are innocent when
standing up for our values, but when others stand up for their own they just cause damage, and he tries
to make this known to us through his poem. In the first stanza of Merrill s poem we are given a
description of an average tourist. Someone you would see on any day walking down the street. Merrill
makes it so we can relate to this tourist by making the character someone we have all been at

  • 2. Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare William Shakespeare s Merchant of Venice is a story about man seeking justice for the forfeiture of his bond. Shylock the Jew created a bond loaning three thousand ducats to his rival Antonio. In the event that the loan could not be paid back, Shylock was entitled to a pound of flesh from the breast of Antonio. Antonio s invested the money in his merchant ships hoping to gain profit. Unfortunately he loses his ships at sea, losing everything Shylock had loaned him. Shylock happily takes Antonio to court in hopes of receiving that pound of flesh as a result of the forfeiture of his bond. However due to manipulation of the court by an illegitimate lawyer, Shylock is ruled as the guilty party of the case. Shylocks sentencing from the court ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The impartial Duke once again tries to bend the law by persuading Shylock to take Bassanio s offer of six thousand ducats to compensate for the three thousand Antonio owes him. Shylock counters with a key point arguing that the Duke and other higher position authorities own slaves and no one could not tell them how to treat them because they own them: You have among you many a purchased slave...you use in abject and in slavish parts, Because you bought them. Shall I say to you, Let them be free! ...You will answer The Slaves are ours . (4.1 90 9) According to the laws of Venice, which all should abide by, Shylock owns that flesh and no person, not even the judge, has the right to tell him what to do with it. Once again the court is showing bias towards Shylock, further displaying the corruption of this court. The final point in conveying the aggressiveness of this court to go against Shylock occurs during the closing argument from Portia, disguised as a lawyer named Balthazar. Portia argues that Shylock was in fact legally justified in obtaining a pound of Antonio s flesh. However she then points out that if he sheds one drop of blood when he cuts it, Venice will then have the right to confiscate his lands and property. Portia shows her conflict of interest against Shylock by then saying Thou shalt have justice more than thou desir st. (4 1.315) This quote means ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Fiorina argues the people s choices are polarized, not their position. This is based on the voter s choice and the candidate s position of who they are voting for. Fiorina examines many issues that are misconceptions about why America is not polarized. The Importance Of Male Oppression Of Women For much of history man has been considered the only sex and women, the Other and as a result men views and opinions have created myths of what women in society are expected to conform to and exhibit. Throughout time men have developed and perpetuated the expectation that a woman exists to fulfill male s sexual needs. Man is the superior being and his ideal women is one that will unquestionably submit to his domination (201). Moreso, men s domination over women places women into state of dependence. Women are largely reliant on men for economic necessities and security. However, women s reliance on men leaves the vulnerable to male s oppression on them. Male oppression places significant burden on women yet, male does not need to take responsibility or place any concern to the fact of how oppressive their superiority is on women because it is intended by nature and thus nature endows men with the right to oppress. Furthermore, women are oppressed because to men, they are a possession that men behold, objects used within their lives to fulfill their domestic needs within the home, their sexual needs both for pleasure and to procreate, and to nature the future generation of men and women where masculine dominance and feminine subjectivity will continue to persist. As Simone de Beauvoir writes woman is her husband s prey, his property (171). • 6. The Recorded History Of Ghana The recorded history of Ghana begins in 1471, when Portuguese traders landed on the coast in search of gold, ivory, and spices. Following the Portuguese came the Dutch, the Danes, the Swedes, the Prussians, and the British. Commerce in gold gave way to the slave trade until the latter was outlawed by Great Britain in 1807. The 19th century brought a gradual adjustment to legitimate trade, the withdrawal of all European powers except the British, and many wars involving the Ashanti, who had welded themselves into a powerful military confederacy; their position as the principal captors of slaves for European traders had brought them into conflict with the coastal tribes. British troops fought seven wars with the Ashanti from 1806 to 1901, when their kingdom was annexed by the British crown.(Encyclopedia, 2007) Amada (2010) stated that Ghana s history prior to the 15th century is concentrated primarily on oral traditions, however it is believed that people may have inhabited what is present day Ghana from about 1500 B.C.E. European contact with Ghana began in 1470. In 1482, the Portuguese built a trading settlement there. Shortly thereafter for three centuries, the Portuguese, English, Dutch, Danes and Germans all controlled different parts of the coast. Colonial period: 1902 1957 Amada (2010) also explained that in 1821, the British took control of all of the trading posts located on the Gold Coast. Feminism taken to Extremes in A Streetcar Named Misogyny As women s studies programs have proliferated throughout American universities, feminist re readings of certain classic authors have provided us with the most nonsensical interpretations of these authors texts. A case in point is that of Kathleen Margaret Lant s interpretation of Tennessee Williams A Streetcar Named Desire in her essay entitled A Streetcar Named Misogyny. Throughout the essay, she continually misreads Williams intention, which of course causes her to misunderstand the play itself. Claiming that the play has proved vexing to audiences, directors, actors, readers, and critics (Lant 227), she fails to see that it is she herself who finds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stanley s rape of Blanche is the action that sends him beyond the pale of civilized existence. That he gets away with murder hardly justifies his action; indeed, the audience s feelings of disgust with his character and his behavior are only heightened when he is left unpunished. Ironically, one of Lant s feminist mentors, Andrea Dworkin, whom she cites thrice in her essay, has written in her book Intercourse that there is nothing in the text of the play, despite the way it is sometimes staged, to suggest that she [Blanche] wanted it [i.e. to be raped] all along. In fact, there is a pronounced and emotionally vivid history of her wanting its opposite a sexuality of tenderness and sensitivity (Dworkin 44). Another of Lant s mentors, Susan Brownmiller, whom she cites twice in her paper, has written that Tennessee Williams has always treated the rape theme with sensitivity. Stanley Kowalski s rape of Blanche DuBois in Streetcar Named Desire is also no glamorization, for Blanche, however damaged, represents fragility and aspiration while Stanley is symbolic of the darker forces of nihilism (Brownmiller 337, footnote). It is ironic that Lant should so differ in her interpretation of the play from two of her feminist mentors. Lant is trying, perhaps, to out Herodias Herodias. After the rape, again in Lant s opinion, Blanche is no longer fully human, but is simply a metaphor for all that is vile about women. But in the relationship between ... • 12. Social Class In The Victorian Era Women s Social Class in the Victorian Era In the Victorian era women were held at a different standard than the men in the Victorian era. In the novels of Jane Eyre and Tess of the d Urberville the social class of the women was challenged by both leading ladies in the novels. Exploring both novels I will you examples from both to show how social class effected women in the Victorian era. Beginning with Jane Eyre, the novel itself is a critical of Victorian England s strict hierarchy. Bronte explores the complex social placements of governesses which was the most prominent exploration of this theme. Jane was a figure of an ambiguous class standing, and subsequently, a source of high tension for the characters around her in the novel. Jane s overall mannerisms and education are those of high standings, of those of aristocrat. A Victorian governesses, who tutored young children in life skills such as etiquette and as well as academics; Jane was expected to embody the culture of the aristocracy. However, as a paid employee she was more or less treated as servants; consequently Jane remains broke and powerless while residing a Thornfield. Jane s understanding of the double standards against her become clear when she accepts her feelings for Rochester. Jane is his intellectual, but not social equal. Even before Rochester s big secret about Bertha Mason, Jane was hesitant to marry him because she knew that she would feel like she owed him for condescending to marry her. In chapter seventeen, Jane s distress appears to be a critique of the Victorian class attitudes. Jane herself, as portrayed in the novel, is very vocal about speaking against class prejudice in particular moments in the book. An example, in chapter twenty three she chews out Rochester: Do you think, because I am poor, obscure, plain, and little, I am soulless and heartless? You think wrong! I have as much soul as you and full as much heart! And if God had gifted me with some beauty and much wealth, I should have made it as hard for you to leave me, as it is now for me to leave you. Sadly it is important to state that nowhere in Jane Eyre are the society s boundaries bent. In the end the Jane is only able to marry Rochester as her equal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When big companies use this ad tactic it surprises people and angeries the feminists of the internet; even though it s been a practice since ads started targeting more than one demographic. Why are women s panties so sexualized? If you think about it, they re just a piece of cotton spandex cloth with some lace or a bow. Male nipples and female nipples really aren t that different, yet the stigma around the nipple is that women s nipples are a sexy intimate part of the body but the male nipple can be flashed around without a care in the world. The female body is nothing to be so sexualized. Institutions across the United States have used this stigma to negatively affect women in schools, workplaces, and in simple everyday life. On YouTube there are videos upon videos of high school girls getting dress code violations for wearing distracting clothing that simply reveals a collar bone. The schools claim that the clothing is distracting for male students but that s just an insult to both parties. The sexualization of the female body has gotten to preposterous levels, The more legal and material hindrances women have broken through, the more strictly and heavily and cruelly images of female beauty have come to weigh upon us (Wolfe,486). Women have fought hard to overcome prejudices previously held but a simple collarbone could label them as a harlot. In conclusion, advertisers have cashed in on female sexuality, the appeal of youth and the objectification of women to sell us products. Is it wrong for advertisers to do this? The decision comes down to the consumer. If a person believes an ad is objectifying women or the beauty myth, the consumer can always choose a different product to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The theory, Special Luke, is proven many times within Luke s portrayal of Jesus s genealogy, birth, and young childhood. The Gospel of Luke began with chronicle of John the Baptist. An angel appeared to Zechariah, the father of John, and announced that John the Baptist would be born. This was a unique beginning because John the Baptist paved the way for Jesus and his ministry. Mary was then visited by Angel Gabriel who announced the birth of Jesus. Mary then relied [h]ere am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word (Luke 1:38). The narrative continued on with Mary visiting her cousin Elizabeth, John the Baptist s mother. Elizabeth then gives birth to her son and on the eighth day he is circumcised and named John. Luke decided to tell the nativity story in Mary s perspective. This emphasized how everyone was accepted in God s kingdom and women were disciples of God. Joseph and Mary had to travel to Judea from Nazareth, their hometown, for registration. This led Mary to deliver Jesus in a barn somewhere in Bethlehem. Shepherds nearby were notified of the Messiah s birth through angels. Eight days after Jesus s birth, he was circumcised and named. Jesus was then presented to God in the Temple in Jerusalem. Providing exercise programs, promoting healthy eating habits, and informing residential neighborhoods in helping to promote physical activity for children with special needs would diminish a large number of children in this population. Obesity is a complex medical and psychosocial problem that has its origin in both genetic and environmental factors (Polfuss, Simpson, Greenley, Zhang, Sawin, 2017, p. 1071). This model consists of health (condition, personal dimension, ({participation restriction, activity limitation, and body structure and function impairments}), and contextual factors ({personal and environmental factors}) (Abeysekara et al., 2014, p. 509). Even with programs that promote healthy eating habits among children and youth with special health care needs, parental feeding behaviors are a concern as well. The problem seems to be that weight related concerns develop among parent and child. Parents are oblivious to the fact when purchasing food, preparing food, pressuring the child to eat when not hungry, they are contributing to the problem at hand (Polfuss et al., 2017, p. 1087). Nixon, the Kennedy campaign created a jingle, and then adapted it into a political campaign ad, unique from any other at its time. This ad as well as the context of the times is ultimately helped JFK get elected as president in the 1960 election. First I will briefly explain the context of the 1960 election and the issues surrounding the time. Next I will introduce the Kennedy Jingle political ad, and finally I will analyze the persuasive powers of the jingle, and the effect it had on the election of JFK. The presidential election of 1960 fell right in the time of a heated Cold War with the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union also had just taken a lead in the space race by launching the Sputnik satellite ( Kennedy Nixon Debates U.S. Presidents ). The stress of the spread of communism and the issues with civil rights and desegregation had divided the nation. This raised a lot of questions about democracy in the United States. • 37. Casual Wear By James Merrill As humans in order to connect and relate to those around us we tend to judge other people and what they believe in. If we agree with them about a topic then we are able to connect with them by discussing the similar opinions we have on that specific topic. If we disagree with them on a topic then we can examine why and look at the topic from a different perspective. Often though, if we do not agree with someone else s beliefs or opinions, we will criticize them without making much of an effort to understand where they are coming from. Along with having a closed mind to others opinions, we do not look at our own opinions to see how they could be flawed or be seen as absurde. In James Merrill s poem Casual Wear the author uses contrasting images to drive a point across to the reader about how we are hypocrites when we criticize others values and what they will do to make their opinion known and standing up for what they believe in, instead believing that we are innocent when we make our own opinions known. Merrill can see that we are hypocrites in thinking that we are innocent when standing up for our values, but when others stand up for their own they just cause damage, and he tries to make this known to us through his poem. In the first stanza of Merrill s poem we are given a description of an average tourist. Someone you would see on any day walking down the street.
