Rationalization is when the reason for a certain behavior is for one other than the real reason.
Identification is when a characteristic from someone that we see as a role model or behavior comes to
play in our own lives. Amir shows rationalization in two scene. The first one was when he saw Hassan
get raped in an alleyway after a kite fighting competition was over. Hassan was walking home and
was caught in an alleyway by a bully named Assef. Amir decided that he wanted the kite, his
reasoning for not butting in was that he could get hurt and then would not get the kite, which is
basically a trophy. The second scene that Amir showed rationalization was when Amir planted his
birthday money and his new watch under Hassan s bed. Amir went to Baba and Baba asked if Hassan
had stolen his gifts. Hassan knew that if he said no that Baba would trust him and Amir would get in
trouble. Hassan was a loyal friend and didn t allow him to get in trouble so he said yes and Baba was
quick to forgive him of theft. Amir showed rationalization because his reasoning for hiding his gifts
was so that it could be the last time Hassan would sacrifice for him, in the end, Amir felt worse
because he was upset that Baba would forgive the worst sin there is, and didn t understand why Baba
couldn t forgive him for not being the son he always wanted. The last Psychological defense
mechanism Amir shows in the book is identification. He shows this when He shows his loyalty to
Sohrab. Amir grasped his loyalty from Hassan while they were friends, he realized that he showed
share the same respect by paying him back, even though Hassan and his wife were killed before he
was ever able to he showed his loyalty to Hassan s son by going to save him from an orphanage in
Afghanistan to bring him back to the United States and adopt him for his own. The Author,

Open City by Teju Cole
Teju Cole s phenomenally written original novel majorly takes place in New York City. Cole character
was easy to relate to because of his Nigerian American decent being that I am a Ghanaian American.
Cole is a Nigerian American. He was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria and came to the United States
in 1992 at the age of seventeen. Cole is also well educated and is a graduate student at Columbia
University. I found it insightful how in the novel Cole met several various types of people, including
other immigrants. He met and shared stories with a Haitian shoe shiner, at work in Penn Station; a
Liberian, imprisoned for over two years in a dentition center in Queens; and a Moroccan student
working at an Internet café. I enjoyed the fact that the narrator was well stocked minded. He touched
on the topics of art, music, and interesting books. He had a very eclectic set of interest. Another aspect
that attracted me to novel was they way it was written. Although the book did have separate chapters,
the way that it is written make the novel flow as if it was one big paragraph. There are moments in the
story where characters converse but speech is not noted by quotation marks or paragraph breaks. This
is a type of writing that even the most experience authors fail to accomplish, but Cole made it seem so
effortless. Such a style of literature is bound to keep readers interested. If felt as if the reader was
reading a diary versus a novel. Included in the novel includes forms of

Comparing The Wife s Lament And The Seafarer
In the Anglo Saxon epic poems The Wife s Lament , The Wanderer , and The Seafarer , the authors
make their poetry much more interesting and enjoyable by inserting literary devices that add meaning
and cohesiveness to each line. Each poem contains multiple literary devices such as kennings,
caesuras, and imagery. These tools work together in order to add mood and transparency to the poetry.
The Wife s Lament is a poem that was translated by Ann Standford, and it uses numerous literary
devices to convey the pains and emotions being felt by the narrator, an exiled wife. The author of the
poem uses a metaphor to compare the cave the wife has moved into to an empty hall: under an oak
tree in this den in the earth. / Ancient this eath hall. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kennedy, utilizes literary devices to make the plot clear and organized, while also adding imagery to
the poem. The first example of this is the flashback used in the first paragraph: Homeless and helpless
he fled from fate / Thus saith the wanderer mindful of misery, / Grievous disasters, and death of kin
(Kennedy 5 7). This flashback provides background information for the readers that is necessary to
understand what is happening through the rest of the poem. The next literary device appears in the
second stanza of the poem: Over wintry seas, seeking a gold lord (Kennedy 23). Gold lord is a
kenning in this line, and it is meant to point out the fact that the wanderer is hoping that his life will
return to how it was before; however, it is too unrealistic, just as finding a gold lord or perfect king
would be impossible. Alliteration is used to highlight the wanderer s feelings during his time of exile:
Fettered my feelings, far from my kin, / Homeless and hapless (Kennedy 19 20). By using alliteration
only for certain phrases, the author makes those phrases stand out to the reader. These particular lines
were important because they portrayed the narrator s emotion and establish the uneasy mood in the

The Pros And Cons Of Texting
Since the start of communication, engineers have been searching for ways to advance the way we
connect with one another from the pictograph, to the landline telephone, even to our revolutionary
smartphones. However, one advancement that really made it s mark on our society and culture was
texting, which almost everyone from ages 10 to 50 has participated in at some point in their lives.
While texting is seen as a positive in younger people s eyes, the older generation often feels it s a
negative. John Humphrys, author of I H8 Txt Msgs , in particular, has his own pronounced opinion on
texting, and is not a strong advocate for it. David Crystal, who has written many pieces on texting, but
specifically 2B or Not 2B? , on the contrary, believes that texting is not a bad thing, and it actually
impacts texters in a positive way. Of the two authors, David Crystal provides a much more convincing
argument through providing statistics and details, whereas John Humphrys uses his personal opinions
in an attempt to convince readers. Crystal s ability to conceptualize (or rationalize) texters motivations
for abbreviating strengthens his argument by making him sound more knowledgeable as a writer. To
begin his argument, Crystal makes the excellent point that people would not send texts that are
unreadable, especially when texting is a service that is not free. It also is not all the time that people
will send text with slanguage (Crystal 1), since not all situations will call for

Essay on Problems with Eyewitness Testimony
Eyewitness testimony has been used for many centuries and continues to be a part of our criminal
justice system. Although, there has been many controversy debates on whether to allow the
continuation of these testimonies in court, and allow it to be used as evidence. Eyewitness testimony
can either be harmful or useful for an individual. We must fully analysis and see what certain factors
(psychological, and age wise) come into the equation before coming up with final conclusions. A case
study titled Problems with Eyewitness Testimony talks about a famous Canadian case in which a 14
years old boy named Steven Truscott, was convicted in 1959 of rape and murder of a 12 years old,
Lynne Harper. It was later found that the conviction was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A 10 year old boy will unfortunately become a victim quickly to these errors. Taking into
consideration that his recollection of that night wasn t any useful in court. When given the option, it is

faulty memories? Absolutely not, but their age does have an influence. According to child
development expert, Dr. Steven Ceci. Children s intake on memories is different from adults. It factors
down to the child s past knowledge of things and whether they can extract real memories rather than
created false ones. Knowing this we still can t deem a child s memory to be as credible as an adults. A
case in 2002, where a 5 year old girl was abducted in front of her home in Stanton, California. Sarah
Ahn, a 6 year old child was the only witness to the crime. Ceci also said there are times when a child
can be a lot more accurate than an adult. This contradicts the point of a child s memory not being as
credible and in this case, it supports what Dr. Steven Ceci was saying. Sarah Ahn, fit into this
exception of being accurate. She was able to give a detailed description of the suspect and his car, that
a few days later the authorities attained the suspect. Although we still need to proceed with caution
and not rely on child s testimonies, because a child s mind can be manipulated to implant a false
memory. (Web 3) Psychologists continue to conduct tests, theories, and studies to

Blood Imagery In Macbeth
Corruption of the mind often leads people to their ultimate downfall, and sometimes they become too
far gone to correct. Shakespeare wrote many tragic plays, but Macbeth is by far the bloodiest play
written to this day. This becomes evident with Shakespeare s use of blood to portray the advancements
of mental disease. Macbeth begins the play as Lord of Glamis, with Lady Macbeth as his lady, and a
sincere love for each other, and each other s power. As the plot continues we follow these characters as
their previous lives disintegrate through their horrendous acts in need of power. In Macbeth, William
Shakespeare uses blood imagery to convey Macbeth and Lady Macbeth s character development.
Macbeth, Macbeth s tragic hero, goes through a terrible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After Macbeth murders Duncan, he confides in his wife he fears that he will never be rid of his guilt,
to which Lady Macbeth replies, A little water clears us of this deed (II.ii.65). She calms down her
husband by telling him, that no one will know what they have done and they will easily be rid of their
guilt. She remains calm and level headed even though her husband just committed a murder, which
could mean the death of both of them if someone discovers their deed. She believes that the blood on
their hands can easily wash away, and there will be no evidence of their part in the murder. Later on in
the play, the audience sees that she no longer has a sense of equanimity, but appears frigid and
paranoid. The Doctor and Gentlewoman see Lady Macbeth sleepwalking, and she rubs her hands
while saying: Out, damned spot! Out, I say! (V.i.30). Lady Macbeth looks like a mad woman, who
hallucinates due to the guilt she bares. Shakespeare implies that the stain Lady Macbeth struggles to
get off of her hands comes from the blood spilled from murders she helped commit. If earlier a little
bit of water could wash away the blood of the kings murder, then evidently the murders are piling up,
and the amount of blood on her hands seems uncontrollable, and she can no longer clean up her
husband s mess. Shakespeare morphs Lady Macbeth from acting calm and level headed to behaving
insecure and paranoid through the use of blood

My Day My Life Essay
The day my life changed forever was January 22, 2014 when I went for a ultra sound of my baby. I
was in the office and could see the look on the face of the ultrasound technician that something was
wrong. I knew at this moment my life would be different. My stomach sunk and I was just hoping it
was not a serious health issue. I thought for sure I was going to have a panic attack. I was in my late
30 s and I knew there was a risk for issues but I had no idea what was in store for us.
The doctor came to the room and let me know that my baby could have trisomy 21 or down syndrome.
This was somewhat of a relief because I knew he would live. I needed to make an important decision
whether to have a amniocentesis or a maternal 21 blood test. If I had the amniocentesis I knew my
baby would not survive. I took the maternal 21 blood test and had to wait for two weeks for the
results. They indicated that my baby would most likely have down syndrome. The doctors and nurses
looked at me like someone had died. I was happy that my child would still be able to come into this
world even though there would be some obstacles we would have to face. I will never forget how they
looked at me when I denied further testing.
I knew no matter what the diagnosis was I would have him. I loved him, the bond I felt when I found
out I conceived was one I could never explain. Even when the doctors looked at me like I was a freak
of nature I knew what God was telling me and I put everything in his hands. I thought that I would
only have one child Miss Miya Jolee Harrison, she was born on June 30th 2003 and this was one of
the best moments of my life. My daughter was also really excited to get to meet this miracle baby boy.
On June 19, 2014 I woke up and I was 36 weeks pregnant and I was having contractions. I went to
work not thinking anything about it. I was at work and I started having contraction about eight
minutes apart and my only thought was this is too early . I drove myself to the hospital in Vincennes
In and told them that I was a high risk pregnancy and that I would need to be transferred to St. Mary s
where my doctors where. Upon arriving the nurses and doctors where really nice but you could tell

Descriptive Essay About George Washington
The historic moment will forever be remembered when George Washington led the American troops
across the Delaware River in order to surprise the English, the day after Christmas in 1776. This is one
of the most famous parts of American history; the vision of brave men standing up and fighting
together against incredible odds for the common cause of liberty. It really speaks to me as a proud
American citizen; these men didn t give up in the face of defeat; they won the battle. I chose this
website because I had connections; I enjoyed learning about our first president s lifestyle and his
house. I actually visited it once. I had such a relation to Washington s, Never give up, kind of style so I
take every advantage I can in my life, especially if it s the day after Christmas! I selected,
http://wwwmountvernon.org as the website I was reviewing. The owners seek innovative ways to tell
the story of George Washington so that his life lessons are taught to the world. When the user first
loads up the front page, they are greeted with panoramic views of the plantation house of George
Washington. It is a beautiful view and makes the user more interested in going to Mount Vernon. It has
more of an impact because the slideshow doesn t have still frames; it has animation and life to it.
Before the user scrolls down, the slideshow consists of 60% of the front page. It acts as a background
for transparent text that sits on top of it. The menu bar also sits on top of the slideshow;

John Maynard Keynes Essay
What was Keynes theory and how did he influence the world| economy in the 19th century?
Before the 1930s the US economy had been ruled by the forces of supply and demand and with as
little government interference as possible and it seemed if everything went smooth.
But in reality the system favorite the middle and the upper class, so about half of the American
population did not participate in the economic growth. Wealth and purchasing power were uneven
distributed and over production in industry and agriculture became a severe problem. In addition,
speculation in stocks had driven the value of the stocks up to unrealistic heights. All this is said to be
some of the causes for the Great Depression that reflects the 1930s. What ... Show more content on

What was missing was purchasing power. If the workers got money then they would spend it and the
money would change owner and eventually create willingness to invest. But the government had to
start the process, and use money, increase the salary and take up loans even though it could lead to
deficit budgets. The most important thing was to get people back at work. It is clear to see that
President Franklin D. Roosevelt and the U.S. administration adopted Keynes theory, known as the
General Theory , in their recovery plan, New Deal . The government became actively involved in
creating jobs and economic activity. One example is the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), where the
government built reservoirs and power stations. Women were now also allowed into the government
and the administration. The goal was to get one of the family members a job. To get better control over
the economy Roosevelt got the Congress to pass a law which was called the National Recovery Act.
Its intention was to regulate prices and wages. Even though USA had adopted his theory, it was until
the postwar era Keynes theory about an active government really got approval in the industrialized
countries. Even when conservative governments were in control they kept their economies under close
surveillance. In Britain, France and Italy the postwar governments nationalized number of the

Nicola Sacco Essay
In this world, anything can happen. We can drive, text, and be framed for murder. Yeah, being framed
for murder. That s what happened to Nicola Sacco. We should start at the beginning.
Nicola Sacco was born in the Italian town of Torremaggiore on 22nd April, 1891. He emigrated to the
United States when he was seventeen. Sacco found work in a shoe factory in Stoughton,
Massachusetts. He got married and started a family. Sacco also became involved in left wing politics
and at one anarchist gathering met Bartolomeo Vanzetti, an Italian immigrant working as a fish
peddler in Plymouth. Like many left wing radicals, Sacco and Vanzetti were opposed to the First
World War. They took part in protest meetings and in 1917, when the United States ... Show more

He also named the four other men, Joe, Fred, Pasquale and Mike Morelli, who had taken part in the
robbery. The Morelli brothers were well known criminals who had carried out similar robberies in area
of Massachusetts. However, the authorities refused to investigate the confession made by Madeiros.
Many leading writers and artists became involved in a campaign to obtain a retrial. Although, Webster
Thayer, the original judge, was officially criticised for his conduct at the trial, the authorities refused
to overrule the decision to execute the men. By the summer of 1927 it became clear that Sacco and
Bartolomeo Vanzetti would be executed. On 23rd August 1927, the day of execution, over 250,000
people took part in a silent demonstration in Boston. Soon after the executions, Eugene Lyons
published his book, The Life and Death of Sacco and Vanzetti. Fifty years later, on 23rd August, 1977,
Michael Dukakis, the Governor of Massachusetts, issued a proclamation, effectively absolving the two
men of the crime.
From beginning to end, Nicola Sacco had been blamed for murder. This is the world we live in. A
world where someone can t be free until after death. A world where we discriminate other for being

The Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress Essay
Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress is a marvelous novel, written by Dai Sijie, which himself

The Advantage And Disadvantages Of Being An Instrument
Being stubborn has its advantages and disadvantages. One advantage is that it leads to being dedicated
for everything you start. In middle school, specifically in fifth grade, band class and being able to
learn an instrument is first introduced to students. Many people sign up, trying out instruments until
they find one they enjoy. I, along with a handful of other people in my grade, joined a year late. Not
only was I a year late, but I also missed sign ups again, and joined a few months into my sixth grade
year. My first choice was percussion, but because I was so late, I was not able to join the percussion if
i wanted to reach up to the level my classmates were at. So I tried out on flute, saxophone, and
clarinet, and instantly fell in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

on an instrument no one played in our band. She had asked if anyone wanted to learn the instrument
and the music. The room was quiet and stayed quiet until another clarinet player asked, What
instrument is it?
An oboe. Everyone started laughing. We had never even heard of this. While it seemed everyone else
just had brushed it off after having their laughs, I was intrigued. It amazed me that there was more
than just the basic 7 instruments we had first heard of. So, reluctantly, I raised my hand. I was
expecting her to be excited that someone had offered. Instead, she looked at me with worry in her eyes
and said, Are you sure? You might want to keep working with the clarinet. I didn t let that change my
mind. I nodded my head and she said, Okay, I ll bring it in tomorrow. That night, I went home and
researched everything I needed to know. From how to care for the reed, how to clean it properly, and
how to play it. I was ready.
I was excited to tell my parents. When I told them, they had almost the same reaction as my band
director. They told me I should focus on the instrument I had now. I told them I wanted to learn a
different instrument and that I was dedicated on playing it in the concert.

Santiago might have missed the signs given to him and would ve passed them off as nothing special.

Essay On Ransom On The High Seas
Ransom on the High Seas: The case of Piracy in Somalia
The pirates in the coast of Somalia came to activity at the start of 2003. The main reason that
provoked local Somalis to start attacking foreign cargo ships was the civil war that broke out in 1991.
The Somali Civil War leads to an unstable government that lacked on authority, leadership and control
to stop the rising attacks between local groups. From there, Somalia went on downhill; its population
decreased over two thirds from 1991 to 2011 and by 2008, the United Nations estimated that nearly
3.2 million Somalis were dependent on food aid for survival. These pirates had nothing to live fro

As we can see this is clearly not the best option for ISC to take, as there are not any advantages at all
from it. Another factor that we have to take into consideration if the negotiation is not carried out is
the mere fact that ISC does not have any insurance against pirates on the ship that has been captured,
placing them in a very delicate situation.
Another possible idea that Martin had was to negotiate using the force. As I have just mentioned
before, dealing with pirates is a very delicate situation and any drastic move can lead to the death of
the hostages. If the negotiation does not go as well as ISC would like to, they could apply the force
from different sources (military, government or private) and solve this problem. Nevertheless, if this
plan does not work out to perfection, the pirates will discover this threat and kill the hostages as a
message to future negotiations (you have to remember they have nothing to loose whilst you have
millions of dollars in hands).
In addition, Martin s third option involved the U.S. Navy Ship that was fast approaching Odyssey
(ISC ship captured by the pirates) to rescue the three American crewmembers that were held hostage.

Grinding these skills with require a lot of time just to get anywhere in most games, but grinding will
also help you do repetitive task that could be a annoying to others. Is grinding really a life skill? You
bet it is. The ability to endure routine and repetition is one that will come in handy no matter what you

The change over the time is described through various symbols. The sounds, smells, silences, and
even visual experiences contribute to this change. There is a sense of terror everywhere around. Sound
and silence contrast with each other but both appear as terrorizing in the text. No one speaks to Malte
but he can listen to their silences. He can sense the terror inside them. Past and present are woven so
well one loses track of time like Malte s grandfather. Everything around Malte that he can sense or see
contributes to the situation that Malte faces when he feels threatened.
The text is divided into two parts by a space between the sections 38 and 39. There is no other specific
sign of the division except that space. The first part largely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

However, it has been recreated in a new way. Rilke has transformed the whole story into something
else. The prodigal son is not the wasteful man as depicted in the Bible. He is the one whom everyone
loves, and it makes him feel vulnerable. He does not leave the house because he is wasteful but
because he cannot bear their love. Being loved is being overpowered and possessed. It suffocates the
one who is loved. He cannot be himself or be anything else than what the lover imagines him to be.
On the other hand, if he is the lover, there are immense possibilities for him. He can be anything he
wills because he is the one to control his life and his choices. When the prodigal son comes to
understand this, he is able to transcend himself. He is able to understand the love of his family, and
feels no more threatened by it. He is able to accept himself as he becomes a changed self. He does not
remain the beloved but turns into the lover. However, he wants to be loved but in a way in which he
would not feel suffocated as before. There is only One who can love him like that because He lets man
be and find himself. And only then, He showers His love upon him. The prodigal son is yet to know
himself completely. He is on the way to find meanings. He is yet becoming. Therefore, there is still
time for him to accomplish what he needs to before He would love

Star Spangled Banner Summary
Kaepernick has drawn an immense amount of attention onto the topics of football, patriotism and law
enforcement. Kaepernick s decision to sit out for the singing of the Star Spangled Banner is a decision
that should be respected. Kaepernick shouldn t have to deal with the intense scrutiny he is getting
from his own personal choice. Kaepernick believes that the United States national anthem doesn t
represent present day America anymore. Kaepernick says that when there is a significant change and I

Essay on Atonement by Ian McEwan
Atonement by Ian McEwan
Atonement comes from an at onement , the idea being that penance and suffering allows us to be at
one with God or ourselves. The central theme of atonement is that of seeking forgiveness. This is
manifested through the characters and their actions. In the book Atonement by
Ian McEwan, the act carried out by Briony sets of a chain of events, for which either atonement is
sought or society seeks atonement from.
Briony s character is described as being compulsively orderly,
She was one of those children possessed by a desire to have the world just so.
Briony s craving to manipulate and control, and also her perception of how Robbie spoilt her play,

books and having his letters censored. He was only permitted his mother to visit after being diagnosed
as morbidly over sexed and at risk of being inflamed .
Briony only starts to realise her crime as she grows older. In a letter to Robbie, Cecelia paraphrases a
letter from Briony,
She s beginning to get the full grasp of what she did I think she wants to recant.
When Briony goes to visit Cecelia, the reader comprehends that Briony doesn t want to withdraw her
statement for Robbie s benefit but instead to find favour with her sister and to reassemble her previous
family life:
I don t expect you to forgive me.
Don t worry about that , she said soothingly, Briony flinched as her hopes lifted unreally. Don t worry
, her sister resumed. I won t ever forgive you.
The climax to the scene comes when Robbie makes his presence known to
Briony. Robbie and Cecelia tell Briony that she has to tell everyone what she did. She agrees then
says,
I m very sorry.
Robbie said softly, Just do all the things we asked.

Description Of A Flight Recorder
1. Introduction It is very difficult, when an accident occurs during a flight to determine precisely what
happened for several reasons:  Most of the time, during a flight, an aircraft is not in an environment
where people cannot testimony what they saw (over water, high in the sky ...)  When the aircraft
crashes, it is often in an area difficult to access (open sea, on a mountain, ...)  When the aircraft is
ready to be examined, after being recovered from a difficult crash area or after a potential fire has
been extinguished, the pieces are frequently severely damaged. To be able to retrace what happened
during the last moments of the flight of the aircraft, before an accident or incident, a flight recorder
has been developed. The information collected by this flight recorder can help the investigation teams
to understand what happened even when the aircraft is badly damaged or even impossible to use to
find answers. But developing a flight recorder is not simple precisely because it has to withstand a
severe accident. When an extreme fire starts after a crash for example, the flight recorder has to stay in
good conditions until it is recovered by someone on the crash site. Therefore, regulations,
certifications and standards have been made to ensure that this element in the aircraft has all the
required properties. Nowadays, the flight recorder has an increasing role to play in investigations of
accidents because of the number of passengers that can be carried on a

Sergio Hernandez Guereca Was Shot By Jesus Mesa Jr.
Sergio Hernandez Guereca was shot by Jesus Mesa Jr. in 2010 on the Mexico United States border.
Sergio was on the Mexican side while Mesa was on the American side. Sergio s parents are now trying
to sue Mr. Mesa in an American court. The Supreme Court is deciding whether the Guerecas can sue
and if constitutional protections extend across the border. What implications would be made if the
Guerecas are allowed to sue? What do those implications mean? Everything will be explained and

liberal justices were inclined to vote to allow the parents to sue. But it was less certain that they could
capture the crucial fifth vote of Justice Anthony M. Kennedy. This may mean that some did oppose the
suit and were not included. It can mean that this article is slightly biased if the other two justices had
comments, but were not in it. No one knows for sure who were the four more liberal justices who

Willard T. Sears Analysis
A boy, about five or six years of age, stands holding the reins of his black pull toy horse, complete
with leather reins, saddle and whip. Dressed in a blue top with lace detailing around the neck and
wrists with white pants and small black shoes, the boy stands upon an intricately detailed mustard and
brown patterned floor. To his left stands an elegant wood table and a dramatic dark red drape behind it.
An aura of power, privilege and wealth seems to surround this young boy as he stares at his audience

Siddhartha Existentialism
Existentialism In the stories that have been discussed during the school year, a majority of them
signify the importance of existentialism. To be more specific, the authors of Lord of The Flies,
Siddhartha, and The Stranger all created characters in which they question the purpose of life and
proceed to find answers through different means. In the novel Lord of the Flies, all of the boys are
isolated and free from supervision, and find themselves questioning how to continue their lives. In
Siddhartha, Siddhartha finds himself unhappy with his lifestyle and attempts to find a brighter
perspective on life to answer why life has a purpose. In The Stranger, Meursault constantly struggles
to find a purpose to life. In the end of the novel, when is about to be sentenced to death, he finally
shows what he believes is his reasoning for existing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Reaction To The Boston Massacre
The French and Indian War was a war that was funded by the British. After the war was finished, it
caused Great Britain to go into debt. As a result of this, British Parliament imposed taxes on the
colonists. This angered many of the colonists because they had no say in the taxes that Parliament
enforced on to them. Many people thought that they should have no taxation without representation .
This caused many different reactions from all of the colonists. Some people thought that Parliament
had no right to tax them and that they should have representation, and others thought that the taxes
were unfair, but there was no reason to act up against them. The actions that the British took after

The Boston Massacre was a reaction to the British action. This started off with the British sending
troops to Boston to watch over the city. Some of the colonists thought that what the British was doing
was unnecessary and that they didn t need any babysitters to watch over them. They also thought that
this was an invasion of their privacy. Tensions started to rise between the colonists and the British
troops. This caused many fights between the colonists and the British. One night, March 5th, 1770, the
colonists started to throw rocks and attack the soldiers with clubs. From that point on, no one knew
exactly what happened, but we know that the British soldiers started to fire at the colonists. At the end
of the night, 5 colonists were killed. The next day, Paul Revere made an engraving of the event and he
labeled it The Boston Massacre (Document 2). The engraving turned out to be very inaccurate, as Paul
Revere drew the colonists as innocent victims. The engraving was then printed many times and hung
up throughout the city and the colony. Almost all the colonists saw or had heard of the engraving
within a week. Because of this false engraving, many colonists changed their view of the British. This
made the engraving that Paul made one of the most famous and useful propaganda . The Boston

My Year of Meats is a novel by Ruth L. Ozeki, exploring the differences between the food cultures of
America and Japan with the culture of generalizations on both. Through the exploration of the
Japanese and American views and food culture, and beef products points out the differences in the
views of the people from the two countries. For example, Akiko s husband believes that, if she learns
to cook and eat an American diet full of meat, it would be easier for her to grow fatter and to get
pregnant (Ozeki 37). In his attempts to make his wife adopt the American diet, he compels Akiko to

I Am At The Local Grocery Store
I was at the local grocery store. It was a franchise styled to look like a local establishment. I stood
with a basket of impulse buys waiting in line to checkout. I observed with curiosity as a mother
appeared to struggle with product selection. Her son sat impatiently in the cart, trying to escape the
aged seatbelt. She held in each hand a box of detergent. They had comparable size and even resembled
each other s appearance. In her expression of exasperation she looked upward. There above her was a
display explaining the environmental benefits of the item in her left hand. As if receiving direction,
she placed that item in her cart and returned the unadvertised product to the shelf. She didn t even stop
to reevaluate the prices. She merely continued on her journey down the aisle.
That experience made me wonder. As I placed my own items on the conveyor belt, I rethought my
own decisions. I remember selecting the green (environmentally friendly) product several times, but
why? For one item there was an effective display with premium product packaging, and for another I
recalled a jingle I heard on the radio. I even remembered that they were both more expensive than
their brown (environmentally unfriendly) counterparts. I initially thought I was making those
selections because it was good for the Earth, but is that why?
The flood of questions that came to mind was overwhelming but they all boiled down to one general
principle, why do consumers buy environmentally friendly

Civil Growth, Ingenuity And Generosity
Civil Growth, Ingenuity and Generosity: United States 1940

Abstract
The United States of America was a boiling time in the 1940 s. With World War II approaching,
United States of America (USA) citizens went above and beyond to help out the cause. Doctor s and
student of universities unraveled mysteries and did what some would call impossible. It didn t matter
what color you were or who you loved, but if you were helping to aid the USA during war, you were
all right. Through tragedy, suffering and back breaking work, the United States of America pulled

The USA needed more men for war and more people in the work force to cover jobs. Because of the
desperateness and proudness of citizens, not only did women benefit but also racial minorities,
homosexuals and the mentally ill benefited.
Women all around the USA were picking up their husbands wrenches and were going to work. They
had finally gotten the share of independence they longed for but, it wouldn t take long for women to
take another step towards ultimate civil freedom. In March of 1942, women were able to step out of
their dresses and jump into militant uniform. No longer did they need to become nurses to be in war,
but now they had the opportunity to become greater than men. Women took jobs as WASP s , WAVES
and WAC s . They trained male piolets, tested planes, free men of combat roles and worked as
volunteer emergency medics (Berkin, Miller, Cherny, Gormly, 2015). If women did not get jobs or
take lead, women may not have the same freedoms as of the 21st century.
If women could do it, minorities could do it too. African Americans, homosexual and the mentally ill
gained benefits from the war. African men now had complete ease going into the military and could
serve the country like any other citizen could. This was a huge step for the USA because not long
before, African Americans were extreamly segragated. This moment of allowance shows extream
cilvil growth withing the states.

Abraham Lincolns Assassination
Abraham Lincoln was conceived in a log lodge in Hardin County, Kentucky to Thomas Lincoln and

Because of an area debate, the Lincolns were compelled to move from Kentucky to Perry County,

Richard Cory Poem Analysis
Ever since the 1600s when William Shakespeare described the whole world as a stage and all the men
and women merely players , the idea of people wearing masks and hiding their true feelings has been
present in literature in one way or another. In the late 1800s, Paul Laurence Dunbar publishes We wear
the mask , a poem that focuses on people hiding their true feelings from others and everyone can
relate. Unlike Dunbar who talks about different kinds of emotional masks people use, Edwin
Arlington Robinson uses his Richard Cory to draw attention to a mask of money and success, which
makes the average people ( we people ) admire and idealize the successful person (Richard Cory) only
because we do not know and do not even try to see what is hidden behind the mask. With ABAB
rhyme scheme, in just 4 stanzas and 16 lines, Edwin Arlington Robinson tells a meaningful and
timeless story about misfortune of Richard Cory, a person behind the mask of money and success who
seemingly has everything anyone could wish for. Robinson starts the first stanza with a description of
Richard Cory s appearance and a clear distinction between the two sides, Richard Cory and we people
. The speaker mentions Richard Cory in the first line without any introduction, which means that
everyone should know who Richard Cory was, so the introduction is not needed. Furthermore,
whenever Richard would come to downtown, we people of the pavement admired him. The people of
the pavement or people from the streets of the downtown, including the speaker, were obviously of a
lower socioeconomic class in comparison to Richard Cory. What is more, the speaker uses we people
as he wants to include the reader as well. In other words, the speaker is confident that a reader would
have also admired Richard Cory if they had seen him. In the next two lines, the speaker uses a
metaphor and implicitly compares Richard to a king: He was a gentleman from sole to crown as well
as imperially slim . Instead of saying a gentleman from the feet to the head, the author uses a phrase
sole to crown to put Richard Cory on a king s pedestal. In addition, Richard is imperially thin, which
is another characteristic of kings. So, was Richard Cory really a king

Electoral System And Representation Of Representation,...
The variety of electoral systems currently in place has important political implications for matters of
representation, accountability, and government effectiveness. A given electoral system determines the
extent to which voters have choices in the election process, the way in which parties and candidates
are elected as representatives, the extent and form of political competition, and the means by which
the electorate vote is translated into legislative representation. Adopted by nations worldwide are two
voting systems known as single member plurality and proportional representation. As a result of the
divisions and proportions of representation, two significantly contrasting dynamics of electoral and
governing processes emanate from the practice of these two systems. This paper will comprise a
systematic explanation of proportional representation and single member plurality for its style of voter
choice and its method of electing candidates, followed by a comparison of the forms of representation
offered by and resulting from each system. Single member plurality.
The electoral system most familiar to the democracies of Canada, the United States, and the United
Kingdom is that of single member plurality (SMP). A nation is divided into many districts or
constituencies. Each elector votes for a single candidate for their constituency on a ballot to represent
them in the legislative body. A candidate is elected to office if he or she receives the most votes in his

Analysis Of A Streetcar Named Desire By Tennessee Williams
Music and literature in collaborative form allow authors to expand elements of themes, plot, and
characters in a way accessible to readers. Although the book, A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee
Williams, is essentially the dialogue and stage directions for the adorned Broadway play, reading it
allows for insight into Williams reasoning in constructing the story and its characters. Truly, Williams
particular choice of music not only fits the setting of the story, but also allows him to construct
complex characters and establish the mood for the scenes of the play.
Set in New Orleans, it is not surprising that Williams choses to incorporate music fitting to the setting.
At the start of the play, Williams indicates the presence of a blue piano (that) expresses the spirit of the
life which goes on there (Williams 3). Located at the Four Deuces, this piano is often mentioned
within the stage directions, and this recurring symbol of blues music emphasizes moments of passion,
love, and life in Elysian Fields. In Scene 2, this blue piano makes an appearance as it plays louder
while Stanley inadvertently reveals to Blanche that Stella is pregnant (Williams 44). It returns in
Scene 3 when Stanley calls out to Stella after their argument. This leads to an introduction into their
lustful relationship, indicated in the stage directions, as they come together with low, animal moans
(Williams 67). Williams even carefully notes the distinctions in the

Commercial Fishing In New England
Commercial fishing in New England is not sustainable. Commercial fishing is the catching of fish for
profit and, as with other profit making activities, there are trade offs between a pure capitalistic market
and the damage it does to resources. For commercial fishing, this trade off is that the more fish the
fishermen catch, the more damage it does to the fish population. To make commercial fishing
sustainable, large regulations need to be in place, as Jack said. However, large regulations of a free
market are usually not accepted in America and would not be put in place in time to save the fish and
sustain commercial fishing.
The population of many fish species have decreased drastically through the years and, even with
current regulations, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The definition of Capitalism according to Merriam Webster is an economic system characterized by
private or corporate ownership of capital goods, by investments that are determined by private
decision, and by prices, production, and the distribution of goods that are determined mainly by
competition in a Free Market. This means that the free market, or in this case commercial fishing, is
not controlled by the government because that is the definition of capitalism. Having big restrictions
on fishing would be seen as a restriction of the free market. Although regulations are put on the free
market, the size of regulations needed to sustain fish population and save commercial fishing would
not be tolerated by many political parties. The regulations would never be put in place. Unless
America changes its capitalist view, the large regulations needed to sustain commercial fishing will
not happen.
The changes needed for sustainable fishing are too big and do not fit with America s view of the
economic system. Unfortunately, without these changes, the fish population will continue to decline.
So, you can see that sustainable fishing in new England is not possible. Although New England and
the US cannot have sustainable fishing because of their capitalistic values, as shown throughout
history their values may

Women´s Role in The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne...
Female Evolution in the United States Do you believe that women of this present generation have
always received the same level of respect as they receive now? Today, women are treated
exceptionally well as compared to their counterparts in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and
treated even better than those in the very early years of America. Women in the past were restricted
from freedoms and rights; their individuality was stripped and they were constantly forced to meet the
constraining view of a traditional America. In contrast, women of modern America are granted a level

Edna Pontellier from Kate Chopin s well known novel The Awakening. Edna Pontellier was heavily
scrutinized by those around her for not serving her husband and children as if they were gods. Don t
be mistaken, Mrs. Pontellier cared for them, but she also aspired to fulfill her own desires. Mrs.
Pontellier specifically said, I would give up the unessential; I would give my money, I would give my
life for my children, but I wouldn t give myself (Chopin 64). The aspiration by Mrs. Pontellier was

writing wasn t first actually words. They used pictographs for writing in their records. Instead of
writing letters s u n , a Sumerian would imprint a pictograph of what they had as a sun on a clay tablet.
Also, they used symbols that represented traded goods and livestock. The Sumerians used writing to
keep records and to keep their stories. Before the actual writing on the clay tablets was created, the
Sumerians originally had tokens. The tokens were items that represented words. They were kept safe

they press the tokens into the clay on the outside. The reason that they had the tokens in

  • 2. Rationalization In Khaled Hosseini s The Kite Runner Background: Khaled Hosseini website says that he is a novelist and physician who was born on March 4th, 1965 in Kabul Afghanistan. He is an Afghan born American who went to school to study medicine to earn his medical degree in 1993. After he graduated he became a doctor in California. Hosseini s website says that In March 2001, while practicing medicine, Hosseini began writing his first novel, The Kite Runner. Published by Riverhead Books in 2003, that debut went on to become an international bestseller and beloved classic, sold in at least seventy countries and spending more than a hundred weeks on the New York Times bestseller list (Khaled Hosseini). His book became very popular and even based a movie off of it. Academy of Achievement says ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rationalization is when the reason for a certain behavior is for one other than the real reason. Identification is when a characteristic from someone that we see as a role model or behavior comes to play in our own lives. Amir shows rationalization in two scene. The first one was when he saw Hassan get raped in an alleyway after a kite fighting competition was over. Hassan was walking home and was caught in an alleyway by a bully named Assef. Amir decided that he wanted the kite, his reasoning for not butting in was that he could get hurt and then would not get the kite, which is basically a trophy. The second scene that Amir showed rationalization was when Amir planted his birthday money and his new watch under Hassan s bed. Amir went to Baba and Baba asked if Hassan had stolen his gifts. Hassan knew that if he said no that Baba would trust him and Amir would get in trouble. Hassan was a loyal friend and didn t allow him to get in trouble so he said yes and Baba was quick to forgive him of theft. Amir showed rationalization because his reasoning for hiding his gifts was so that it could be the last time Hassan would sacrifice for him, in the end, Amir felt worse because he was upset that Baba would forgive the worst sin there is, and didn t understand why Baba couldn t forgive him for not being the son he always wanted. The last Psychological defense mechanism Amir shows in the book is identification. He shows this when He shows his loyalty to Sohrab. Amir grasped his loyalty from Hassan while they were friends, he realized that he showed share the same respect by paying him back, even though Hassan and his wife were killed before he was ever able to he showed his loyalty to Hassan s son by going to save him from an orphanage in Afghanistan to bring him back to the United States and adopt him for his own. • 3. Open City by Teju Cole Teju Cole s phenomenally written original novel majorly takes place in New York City. Cole character was easy to relate to because of his Nigerian American decent being that I am a Ghanaian American. Cole is a Nigerian American. He was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria and came to the United States in 1992 at the age of seventeen. Cole is also well educated and is a graduate student at Columbia University. I found it insightful how in the novel Cole met several various types of people, including other immigrants. He met and shared stories with a Haitian shoe shiner, at work in Penn Station; a Liberian, imprisoned for over two years in a dentition center in Queens; and a Moroccan student working at an Internet café. I enjoyed the fact that the narrator was well stocked minded. He touched on the topics of art, music, and interesting books. He had a very eclectic set of interest. Another aspect that attracted me to novel was they way it was written. Although the book did have separate chapters, the way that it is written make the novel flow as if it was one big paragraph. There are moments in the story where characters converse but speech is not noted by quotation marks or paragraph breaks. This is a type of writing that even the most experience authors fail to accomplish, but Cole made it seem so effortless. Such a style of literature is bound to keep readers interested. If felt as if the reader was reading a diary versus a novel. Included in the novel includes forms of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Comparing The Wife s Lament And The Seafarer In the Anglo Saxon epic poems The Wife s Lament , The Wanderer , and The Seafarer , the authors make their poetry much more interesting and enjoyable by inserting literary devices that add meaning and cohesiveness to each line. Each poem contains multiple literary devices such as kennings, caesuras, and imagery. These tools work together in order to add mood and transparency to the poetry. The Wife s Lament is a poem that was translated by Ann Standford, and it uses numerous literary devices to convey the pains and emotions being felt by the narrator, an exiled wife. The author of the poem uses a metaphor to compare the cave the wife has moved into to an empty hall: under an oak tree in this den in the earth. / Ancient this eath hall. ... The first example of this is the flashback used in the first paragraph: Homeless and helpless he fled from fate / Thus saith the wanderer mindful of misery, / Grievous disasters, and death of kin (Kennedy 5 7). This flashback provides background information for the readers that is necessary to understand what is happening through the rest of the poem. The next literary device appears in the second stanza of the poem: Over wintry seas, seeking a gold lord (Kennedy 23). Gold lord is a kenning in this line, and it is meant to point out the fact that the wanderer is hoping that his life will return to how it was before; however, it is too unrealistic, just as finding a gold lord or perfect king would be impossible. Alliteration is used to highlight the wanderer s feelings during his time of exile: Fettered my feelings, far from my kin, / Homeless and hapless (Kennedy 19 20). By using alliteration only for certain phrases, the author makes those phrases stand out to the reader. • 5. The Pros And Cons Of Texting Since the start of communication, engineers have been searching for ways to advance the way we connect with one another from the pictograph, to the landline telephone, even to our revolutionary smartphones. However, one advancement that really made it s mark on our society and culture was texting, which almost everyone from ages 10 to 50 has participated in at some point in their lives. While texting is seen as a positive in younger people s eyes, the older generation often feels it s a negative. John Humphrys, author of I H8 Txt Msgs , in particular, has his own pronounced opinion on texting, and is not a strong advocate for it. David Crystal, who has written many pieces on texting, but specifically 2B or Not 2B? , on the contrary, believes that texting is not a bad thing, and it actually impacts texters in a positive way. Of the two authors, David Crystal provides a much more convincing argument through providing statistics and details, whereas John Humphrys uses his personal opinions in an attempt to convince readers. Crystal s ability to conceptualize (or rationalize) texters motivations for abbreviating strengthens his argument by making him sound more knowledgeable as a writer. To begin his argument, Crystal makes the excellent point that people would not send texts that are unreadable, especially when texting is a service that is not free. It also is not all the time that people will send text with slanguage (Crystal 1), since not all situations will call for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Children s intake on memories is different from adults. It factors down to the child s past knowledge of things and whether they can extract real memories rather than created false ones. Knowing this we still can t deem a child s memory to be as credible as an adults. A case in 2002, where a 5 year old girl was abducted in front of her home in Stanton, California. This contradicts the point of a child s memory not being as credible and in this case, it supports what Dr. Steven Ceci was saying. Sarah Ahn, fit into this exception of being accurate. Shakespeare wrote many tragic plays, but Macbeth is by far the bloodiest play written to this day. This becomes evident with Shakespeare s use of blood to portray the advancements of mental disease. Macbeth begins the play as Lord of Glamis, with Lady Macbeth as his lady, and a sincere love for each other, and each other s power. As the plot continues we follow these characters as their previous lives disintegrate through their horrendous acts in need of power. After Macbeth murders Duncan, he confides in his wife he fears that he will never be rid of his guilt, to which Lady Macbeth replies, A little water clears us of this deed (II.ii.65). She calms down her husband by telling him, that no one will know what they have done and they will easily be rid of their guilt. She remains calm and level headed even though her husband just committed a murder, which could mean the death of both of them if someone discovers their deed. She believes that the blood on their hands can easily wash away, and there will be no evidence of their part in the murder. Later on in the play, the audience sees that she no longer has a sense of equanimity, but appears frigid and paranoid. The Doctor and Gentlewoman see Lady Macbeth sleepwalking, and she rubs her hands while saying: Out, damned spot! Out, I say! (V.i.30). Lady Macbeth looks like a mad woman, who hallucinates due to the guilt she bares. Shakespeare implies that the stain Lady Macbeth struggles to get off of her hands comes from the blood spilled from murders she helped commit. If earlier a little bit of water could wash away the blood of the kings murder, then evidently the murders are piling up, and the amount of blood on her hands seems uncontrollable, and she can no longer clean up her husband s mess. • 8. My Day My Life Essay The day my life changed forever was January 22, 2014 when I went for a ultra sound of my baby. I was in the office and could see the look on the face of the ultrasound technician that something was wrong. I knew at this moment my life would be different. My stomach sunk and I was just hoping it was not a serious health issue. I thought for sure I was going to have a panic attack. I was in my late 30 s and I knew there was a risk for issues but I had no idea what was in store for us. The doctor came to the room and let me know that my baby could have trisomy 21 or down syndrome. This was somewhat of a relief because I knew he would live. I needed to make an important decision whether to have a amniocentesis or a maternal 21 blood test. If I had the amniocentesis I knew my baby would not survive. I took the maternal 21 blood test and had to wait for two weeks for the results. They indicated that my baby would most likely have down syndrome. The doctors and nurses looked at me like someone had died. I was happy that my child would still be able to come into this world even though there would be some obstacles we would have to face. I will never forget how they looked at me when I denied further testing. I knew no matter what the diagnosis was I would have him. I loved him, the bond I felt when I found out I conceived was one I could never explain. Even when the doctors looked at me like I was a freak of nature I knew what God was telling me and I put everything in his hands. To get better control over the economy Roosevelt got the Congress to pass a law which was called the National Recovery Act. Its intention was to regulate prices and wages. • 22. Description Of A Flight Recorder 1. Introduction It is very difficult, when an accident occurs during a flight to determine precisely what happened for several reasons:  Most of the time, during a flight, an aircraft is not in an environment where people cannot testimony what they saw (over water, high in the sky ...)  When the aircraft crashes, it is often in an area difficult to access (open sea, on a mountain, ...)  When the aircraft is ready to be examined, after being recovered from a difficult crash area or after a potential fire has been extinguished, the pieces are frequently severely damaged. To be able to retrace what happened during the last moments of the flight of the aircraft, before an accident or incident, a flight recorder has been developed. The information collected by this flight recorder can help the investigation teams to understand what happened even when the aircraft is badly damaged or even impossible to use to find answers. But developing a flight recorder is not simple precisely because it has to withstand a severe accident. When an extreme fire starts after a crash for example, the flight recorder has to stay in good conditions until it is recovered by someone on the crash site. All the Justices that were included all supported the case or had mixed feelings. Maybe the two justices did not express their opinions or they could have opposed the lawsuit. In the article, it said that four more liberal justices were inclined to vote to allow the parents to sue. But it was less certain that they could capture the crucial fifth vote of Justice Anthony M. Many people thought that they should have no taxation without representation . This caused many different reactions from all of the colonists. This started off with the British sending troops to Boston to watch over the city. Some of the colonists thought that what the British was doing was unnecessary and that they didn t need any babysitters to watch over them. They also thought that this was an invasion of their privacy. Tensions started to rise between the colonists and the British troops. This caused many fights between the colonists and the British. One night, March 5th, 1770, the colonists started to throw rocks and attack the soldiers with clubs. From that point on, no one knew exactly what happened, but we know that the British soldiers started to fire at the colonists. At the end of the night, 5 colonists were killed. The next day, Paul Revere made an engraving of the event and he labeled it The Boston Massacre (Document 2). The engraving turned out to be very inaccurate, as Paul Revere drew the colonists as innocent victims. The engraving was then printed many times and hung up throughout the city and the colony. Almost all the colonists saw or had heard of the engraving within a week. Because of this false engraving, many colonists changed their view of the British. • 28. I Am At The Local Grocery Store I was at the local grocery store. It was a franchise styled to look like a local establishment. I stood with a basket of impulse buys waiting in line to checkout. I observed with curiosity as a mother appeared to struggle with product selection. Her son sat impatiently in the cart, trying to escape the aged seatbelt. She held in each hand a box of detergent. They had comparable size and even resembled each other s appearance. In her expression of exasperation she looked upward. There above her was a display explaining the environmental benefits of the item in her left hand. As if receiving direction, she placed that item in her cart and returned the unadvertised product to the shelf. She didn t even stop to reevaluate the prices. She merely continued on her journey down the aisle. That experience made me wonder. As I placed my own items on the conveyor belt, I rethought my own decisions. I remember selecting the green (environmentally friendly) product several times, but why? For one item there was an effective display with premium product packaging, and for another I recalled a jingle I heard on the radio. I even remembered that they were both more expensive than their brown (environmentally unfriendly) counterparts. The USA needed more men for war and more people in the work force to cover jobs. Because of the desperateness and proudness of citizens, not only did women benefit but also racial minorities, homosexuals and the mentally ill benefited. Women all around the USA were picking up their husbands wrenches and were going to work. They had finally gotten the share of independence they longed for but, it wouldn t take long for women to take another step towards ultimate civil freedom. In March of 1942, women were able to step out of their dresses and jump into militant uniform. No longer did they need to become nurses to be in war, but now they had the opportunity to become greater than men. Women took jobs as WASP s , WAVES and WAC s . They trained male piolets, tested planes, free men of combat roles and worked as volunteer emergency medics (Berkin, Miller, Cherny, Gormly, 2015). If women did not get jobs or take lead, women may not have the same freedoms as of the 21st century. If women could do it, minorities could do it too. African Americans, homosexual and the mentally ill gained benefits from the war. African men now had complete ease going into the military and could serve the country like any other citizen could. • 32. Richard Cory Poem Analysis Ever since the 1600s when William Shakespeare described the whole world as a stage and all the men and women merely players , the idea of people wearing masks and hiding their true feelings has been present in literature in one way or another. In the late 1800s, Paul Laurence Dunbar publishes We wear the mask , a poem that focuses on people hiding their true feelings from others and everyone can relate. Unlike Dunbar who talks about different kinds of emotional masks people use, Edwin Arlington Robinson uses his Richard Cory to draw attention to a mask of money and success, which makes the average people ( we people ) admire and idealize the successful person (Richard Cory) only because we do not know and do not even try to see what is hidden behind the mask. With ABAB rhyme scheme, in just 4 stanzas and 16 lines, Edwin Arlington Robinson tells a meaningful and timeless story about misfortune of Richard Cory, a person behind the mask of money and success who seemingly has everything anyone could wish for. Robinson starts the first stanza with a description of Richard Cory s appearance and a clear distinction between the two sides, Richard Cory and we people . The speaker mentions Richard Cory in the first line without any introduction, which means that everyone should know who Richard Cory was, so the introduction is not needed. Furthermore, whenever Richard would come to downtown, we people of the pavement admired him. The people of the pavement or people from the streets of the downtown, including the speaker, were obviously of a lower socioeconomic class in comparison to Richard Cory. What is more, the speaker uses we people as he wants to include the reader as well. In other words, the speaker is confident that a reader would have also admired Richard Cory if they had seen him. In the next two lines, the speaker uses a metaphor and implicitly compares Richard to a king: He was a gentleman from sole to crown as well as imperially slim . Instead of saying a gentleman from the feet to the head, the author uses a phrase sole to crown to put Richard Cory on a king s pedestal. In addition, Richard is imperially thin, which is another characteristic of kings. So, was Richard Cory really a king ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Electoral System And Representation Of Representation,... The variety of electoral systems currently in place has important political implications for matters of representation, accountability, and government effectiveness. A given electoral system determines the extent to which voters have choices in the election process, the way in which parties and candidates are elected as representatives, the extent and form of political competition, and the means by which the electorate vote is translated into legislative representation. Adopted by nations worldwide are two voting systems known as single member plurality and proportional representation. As a result of the divisions and proportions of representation, two significantly contrasting dynamics of electoral and governing processes emanate from the practice of these two systems. This paper will comprise a systematic explanation of proportional representation and single member plurality for its style of voter choice and its method of electing candidates, followed by a comparison of the forms of representation offered by and resulting from each system. Single member plurality. The electoral system most familiar to the democracies of Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom is that of single member plurality (SMP). Analysis Of A Streetcar Named Desire By Tennessee Williams Music and literature in collaborative form allow authors to expand elements of themes, plot, and characters in a way accessible to readers. Although the book, A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams, is essentially the dialogue and stage directions for the adorned Broadway play, reading it allows for insight into Williams reasoning in constructing the story and its characters. Truly, Williams particular choice of music not only fits the setting of the story, but also allows him to construct complex characters and establish the mood for the scenes of the play. Set in New Orleans, it is not surprising that Williams choses to incorporate music fitting to the setting. At the start of the play, Williams indicates the presence of a blue piano (that) expresses the spirit of the life which goes on there (Williams 3). Located at the Four Deuces, this piano is often mentioned within the stage directions, and this recurring symbol of blues music emphasizes moments of passion, love, and life in Elysian Fields. In Scene 2, this blue piano makes an appearance as it plays louder while Stanley inadvertently reveals to Blanche that Stella is pregnant (Williams 44). It returns in Scene 3 when Stanley calls out to Stella after their argument. This leads to an introduction into their lustful relationship, indicated in the stage directions, as they come together with low, animal moans (Williams 67). Williams even carefully notes the distinctions in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Commercial fishing is the catching of fish for profit and, as with other profit making activities, there are trade offs between a pure capitalistic market and the damage it does to resources. For commercial fishing, this trade off is that the more fish the fishermen catch, the more damage it does to the fish population. To make commercial fishing sustainable, large regulations need to be in place, as Jack said. However, large regulations of a free market are usually not accepted in America and would not be put in place in time to save the fish and sustain commercial fishing. The population of many fish species have decreased drastically through the years and, even with current regulations, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The definition of Capitalism according to Merriam Webster is an economic system characterized by private or corporate ownership of capital goods, by investments that are determined by private decision, and by prices, production, and the distribution of goods that are determined mainly by competition in a Free Market. This means that the free market, or in this case commercial fishing, is not controlled by the government because that is the definition of capitalism. Having big restrictions on fishing would be seen as a restriction of the free market. Although regulations are put on the free market, the size of regulations needed to sustain fish population and save commercial fishing would not be tolerated by many political parties. The regulations would never be put in place. Unless America changes its capitalist view, the large regulations needed to sustain commercial fishing will not happen. The changes needed for sustainable fishing are too big and do not fit with America s view of the economic system. Unfortunately, without these changes, the fish population will continue to decline. So, you can see that sustainable fishing in new England is not possible.
