A Descriptive Essay About My House
In my lifetime, I have lived in 4 different homes. None of them can even compare to the very first
home I lived in, in my hometown of Allentown, Pennsylvania. It was a quaint duplex home that was
on a tranquil street underneath a towering maple tree. Nothing will ever be able to replace its
permanent spot in my heart. Through my eyes, my house seemed like a castle and I was the princess.
The backyard was my favorite part of the whole house. It was always so luminous with dew and the
lingering smell of petrichor in the air. The grass always felt as soft as silk. It almost seemed like little
feathers tickling your feet. The lawn was also filled with plants of all shapes and sizes, varying from
as dainty as a dandelion, to as mighty as a pine tree. My favorite plant in my backyard were the
clovers, which grew in copious amounts. Whenever I was bored, I would search for four leafed
clovers in hopes of having eternal luck. Walking along the side of the house, you can see the different
shades of red and white bricks used to build the home that I admired so much. At the base of the
house, next to the gigantic maple tree, grew a running vine that had massive green leaves. That vine
grew us pumpkins that we used to carve and make our own homemade pumpkin pie. Then, there was
the front of the house that was built with oversized, textured, white bricks. In the center of the house
was a large window. Below it was a green and silver aluminum awning that reflected

The Number Of Mobile Cellular Networks Operators Who Can...
The work has been able to verify that the number of mobile cellular network operators who can
effectively share infrastructure on a base station is limited by the following parameters:
Sensitivity degradation threshold
E field threshold or radiation limit
Allowable BTS noise floor limit
Require antenna isolation
Interference level (from spurious emission, leakages, etc.)
Tower wind loading
From the result, it was observed that six (6) GSM operators can share infrastructure for a passive
infrastructure sharing scheme without severe and unacceptable degradation of system performance.
For number of BTS operators greater than six (6), the noise floor becomes larger than 110dB, which is
not acceptable. However, as the number of users of a tower increase, the wind loading and tower
bending moment increases. Therefore, when designing towers, wind loading analysis for collocation
scenario should be carried out.
Among the parameters, the level of sensitivity degradation should be monitored closely, since its value
aid in determining system performance for a specific interference level and BTS noise floor, which
depends on the number of collocating operators. When the sensitivity degradation is greater than 3dB
it indicates that the interference threshold is larger than the noise floor limit, which is temperature and
bandwidth dependent.
It was also observed that the higher the antenna gain, the longer the antenna separating distance.
The coverage radius is affected by

The Negative Differences Of A Centralized Government In...
The Texas government reflects a negative attitude towards having centralized governments. A
centralized government is when the power of the government belongs to very few people and is not
dispersed among a larger group. That could include things like monarchies and dictatorships where
there only a single authority. Centralized governments is exactly the opposite of what Texas displays.
Texas is an example of a decentralized government where the power is dispersed amongst a group of
multiple people. There is no single authority in a Texas government because it includes many people
with power like attorney generals, governor, senators and representatives. What really makes Texas
decentralized is the citizens having the ability to choose whoever they want to have power in the
Texas government. A city council is considered the body in cities that have corporate status and also
have a local government. Their responsibility is to create laws which affect all of the residents that live
in the certain city which they work in. Every city has a different number of city council members and
the type of district that they are responsible for representing varies from city to city. In some cities the
council member is elected by the whole city in a similar method to the way that a mayor is elected.
Another way of electing city council members is by electing them to represent certain parts rather than
the whole entire city being represented by just one member. The final way is by a

The World Of The Vietnam War
The year is 1965: the skate board is the latest craze in kids toys; the miniskirt makes its appearance;
hypertext is introduced for linking on the Internet; Kellogg s Pop Tarts pastries are created; Sonny
Cher make their first TV appearance in American Bandstand ; rights activist Malcolm X is shot dead;
the Gemini 3 launched the first US 2 man space flight; and the first United States combat forces arrive
in Vietnam. This was not the start of the Vietnam War since the war actually started in 1955, pitting
Communist North Vietnam against anti Communist South Vietnam. The United States believed it had
to protect South Vietnam from Communist take over and is the reason the U.S. supplied South
Vietnam with millions of dollars in military aid as well as with military advisors from the start of the
war. Eventually, the US had no other choice but to send troops to war and it became the first war
Americans opposed publicly and passionately, making the US involvement in the Vietnam War a
shameful venture rather than a noble cause. Although the Vietnam War was the first televised war, it is
unclear if Vietnam War films are able to give an honest portrayal of the Vietnam War experience, or if
truer reality of the war can be found only in textbooks. The Vietnam War was so much a part of
American life that it could not be ignored, and with war films losing their appeal after World War II, it
s hard to know if the Vietnam War would be actually portrayed on the big screen. The

Kroger Greek Vanilla Yogurt As Lactobacillus Casei
Identification of Unknown in Kroger Greek Vanilla Yogurt as Lactobacillus casei
Joanne Li
University of Kansas, Biol 203, Spring 2017, 3:00 pm room 6044
Abstract
The purpose of this experiment is to identify yogurt unknown by analyzing the result of its gram
staining, and the 6 tubes of test media that was inoculated. The yogurt chosen to be used in this lab
meets the minimum number of lactic acid bacteria to bear the seal of Live Active Cultures, which
mean they have at least 10^8 colony forming units(CFU) per gram to quality. Unknown is Gram
positive, rod shaped, and use salicin, galactose, sucrose, mannitol, and mannose for fermentation. The
characteristics of the result suggest that the unknown can be identified as Lactobacillus casei.

Hippocrates considered fermented milk to be a medicine, they prescribe sour milk for curing stomach

body by keeping the digestive and immune system functioning well. More and more people include
yogurt as part of their diet knowing all of its possible health benefits. For examples, yogurt may

Influence of French Food on the Food Service Industry
The Influence of French Food on the Food Service Industry In the globalized world in which we live
today, food is seemingly available from all corners of the world at one s request. One can therefore
experience everything from Spanish to Russian to Ethiopian cuisines in a matter of hours, especially
in metropolitan cities such as New York, Paris, or Sao Paolo. Yet there are some cuisines that have
reigned supreme in the world of dining, and that take the prize for being the most complex, sought
after, delicious cuisines ever experienced. French cuisine, one would hope, would be at the forefront
of such fantastic experiences. With its delicacies, from escargots to foie gras, French cuisine has
impacted many thousands of taste buds across the globe for many centuries. This paper will thus
discuss the influence that French food has had upon the food service industry in the United States, in a
quick attempt to understand and examine just how sought after French cuisine still is. One of the most
obvious influences of French cuisines in America can be felt in New Orleans. This city was
established in the 18th century by Ursuline nuns, under the orders of Louis XV of France. Ever since,
New Orleans has been central to how one experiences French food in the United States, as well as
how one sees the mix of French and American cuisines to produce something truly unique. Yet this
kind of French food, or Creole food, as this would be called, is only one facet of the array of dishes

The Policy Process Of New Zealand Essay
The Policy Process
Task II: Briefing Paper
Summary:
There is an imminent threat posed by the climate change issue that New Zealand faces. Human
wellbeing, food and water security, health issues and national security are some of the threats that
New Zealand will have to resolve. One of the first global effort in response to combating the issue of
climate change is the Kyoto Protocol. However, the agreement did not include the two largest world
emitters of greenhouse gas China and the USA.
The issue impedes development in many small south pacific island nations. Agriculture is one of the
major export for many developing island nations. The rise in sea level due to climate change directly
affects the agricultural production. The ASEAN summit has identified food security to be of great
concern and there is a need to address the issue. The issue affects most south pacific island countries.
Climate change affects them in many ways and one of the major issues is the rise in sea levels. High
tides lead to flooded roads affecting transportation and other infrastructure. Heat stress and saltwater
incursions are some of the effects that is quite problematic for the industry. Furthermore, the rapid
population growth and increasing food consumption per person is also a critical issue. Drought or the
lack of availability of fresh water is also a concern. People are migrating due to flooding caused by the
rising sea level. A research conducted by London School of Economics have

A Basic Principle Of Attachment Theory Essay
A parent child interaction happens prenatal and continues throughout a child s development soon after
a child is born, an attachment begins. This attachment begins with imprinting which some call the
sensitive period. During this time the child will become attached to the first caregiver seen (usually the
mother) and look to it for any sort of comfort. This was discovered through Bowlby s experiment with
ducks in the 1970 s, Bowlby defined attachment theory as Attachment theory conceptualizes the
propensity of human beings to make strong affectional bonds to particular others (Bowlby, 1977, p.
201). (Bartholomew Horowitz, 1991 p. 226). A basic principle of attachment theory is that attachment
relationships continue to be important throughout the life span (Ainsworth, 1982,1989; Bowlby,
1977,1980,1982b). (Bartholomew Horowitz, 1991 p. 226). Many theories have been proposed to
explain what motivates human interactions and behaviors in relationships. This literature review on

On the other hand the negative impacts are that the Jellyfish population will increase and this is bad
because jellyfish consume large amounts of fish larvae (baby fish) and without the leatherback sea

Beach/dunes vegetation will decrees because there will be no eggs to give it nutrients and this is
important because Beach/dunes ecosystems get very little nutrients and they need the nutrients to
grow plants and keep the soil in place thus there will be an increase in soil erosion. Unmaintained
seagrass beds are amongst the negative impacts that would occur should the leatherback sea turtles
become extinct. Maintained seagrass beds are important because many species of fish, shellfish and
crustaceans live and bred there so if there were no leatherback sea turtle to do this many species of
fish, shellfish and crustaceans that live and breed there would die and the population would decrees. If
the leatherback sea turtles became extinct there would be an ecosystem

Paradise Lost Analysis
Paradise Lost is an epic poem written by John Milton other uses this epic poem to depict the integral
scenes, or rather, experiences that lead up to the fall of mankind in the Garden of Eden. In the Bible,
as well as all prominent, and popular religious works; there is a clear distinction as to who the reader
should be cheering for throughout their readings. However, John Milton s Paradise Lost has turned
this concept on its head. Rather than placing the focus onto Adam, Eve, or even God himself Milton
instead chooses to place the main focus on to Satan. The Fallen Angels, and Satan are meant to be are
antagonists within this epic poem. But, do they start out this way?
Satan is usually conveyed as a villain, yet the Satan we see within Paradise Lost, and Paradise
Regained is flushed out in a similar fashion to protagonist s within other prevalent written works in the
last few centuries. As William Blake concluded in his critique of Paradise Lost: he (Milton) was a true
poet and of the devil s party without knowing it . However, John Milton does not continue on this path
in portraying the devil s so heroically in his second Epic poem Paradise Regained (Nafi, 23). The
Satan that we knew in Paradise Lost; who was known for his wit, intelligence, and persuasive attitude
appear to no longer exist. It s as if his character is downplayed as we progress through the rest from
the later books of Paradise Lost, and continue on to Paradise Regained. Satan, who poetically danced
within the dreams of Eve, and planted the seed of curiosity within her head was reduced to an
antagonist with a lackluster performance. There are several major points in which we are able to see
the progression of Satan as a fleshed out character. However, to understand the progression of Satan s
development as a character; it is important for us to analyze major plot points throughout the twelve
books of Paradise Lost. As John Milton was a devout religious man throughout his life, and this
concert is clear throughout his writings within his various works. Yet, in a peculiar fashion, Paradise
Lost introduces the devil, and Satan first. In an ironic twist Satan addressed before Adam, Eve, Jesus,
or even God. Once the poem starts we are

nobody touches you. We re always behind this metal and glass. I think we miss that touch so much
that we crash into each other just so we can feel something (Graham, 2004). When I heard Detective
walker say metal and glass and how we hide behind it. It made me think of Plato s Allegory of the

chained like slaves who know no better. However; when we are freed from our chains or crash it

Coping with Anxiety
Literature review
In 2013, associate professor of psychology at the University of California, Kate Sweeny and her
researchers surveyed 230 law school graduates for a period of four months after taking their bar exam
in July 2013 ( J. Hoffman, 2015). The purpose of her research was to focus on the waiting period
during which the person is uncertain of the outcome of a life situation and how they manage any
anxiety that may occur during that time. The individuals that were surveyed in this descriptive
research used three different strategies when asked about how they tried to avoid anxiety while
waiting on their exam scores. The first group attempted to suppress their fears by trying to not pay
attention. The second group sought for silver linings. They tried to anticipate something good in a bad
outcome Dr. Sweeny explained. The third group used defensive pessimism.
At the end of Dr. Sweeny s research study what came up is that the people that were calmed down
during the waiting period were shattered and paralyzed by the bad news and if they got good news,
they were not impress by the results (Dr. Sweeny, 2015). The people who were not doing well during
the waiting period actually handled the news much better than the previous set of people. If they
received bad news then they were ready for it and had

Compare And Contrast Jamestown And Plymouth Colonies
Another component comparing Jamestown and Plymouth colonies would be their aspects on Indian
relations. The English colonists arrived in Chesapeake Bay where the Powhatan Indians had been
calling home for quite some time. There were over thirty Indian tribes totaling 14,000 Indians. This is
where the first colony, Jamestown, was settled in 1607. I believe this created a lot of tension between
the Indians and the new settlers considering the previous settling and attacks of the Spanish on the
Indians. The Indians lived such a generous way of life welcoming the new English settlers by offering
them food. However, the good intentions faded quickly after. The leader of the Powhatan Indians,
Powhatan, was intending to entice the English through generosity and their selfless attitudes. Sure
enough, this act of kindness was overlooked by the English colonists, and they immediately began
searching for wealth such as tobacco. As we have spoken about in class, Jamestown was a colony that
significantly valued material objects and wealth; whereas Plymouth colony did not focus their rule
around that idea. The new colonists were so set on acquiring wealth that they failed to grow crops
such as corn and beans. This led the English to depend more on the Indians for food since the Indians
were very successful farmers and knew how to live off the land. John Smith s leadership swooped in
and saved the colony of Jamestown. He conducted means of exploring the land and gathering

Using Focus Groups In Qualitative Research
In today s society, at risk youths often face challenges when reaching out to adults regarding their
personal situations, especially when it comes to them wanting someone to understand their own
perspectives. Therefore, it is important as a researcher to understand the different procedures to
research, especially when selecting an appropriate method to investigate a problem a community
faces, such as with studying youths. As a result, a researcher must follow the rule of thumb when
designing their methods to avoid ethical issues in qualitative research as well as exploring different
options to allow youths to open up to an adult researcher. However, when considering this problem,
the main goal for a researcher is to investigate what youths ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In order to understand how this method can be used in this study, then it first must be explained.
According to the text, Making Sense of the Social World, focus groups are considered as, a qualitative
method that involves unstructured group interviews in which the focus group leader actively
encourages discussion among participants on the topics of interest (Chambliss Schutt, 2016, p. 220).
Often times young adults are more open when around others of their own age, this is the main reason I
selected this method because an at risk youth is going to be more comfortable answering questions
and sharing their opinions when around a group that shares similar characteristics or life situations
compared to just a one on one conversation between them and a researcher or amongst strangers.
However, with this method there are also strengths and weaknesses when using this method. The
major strengths to focus groups are: they can save time and money compared to other methods, they
provide participants the opportunity to explain their viewpoints, it allows for participants to be more
open and give clarification on their personal and group perceptions, and they provide for a broad range
of information and data to be collected from the sample. The disadvantages to focus groups are: they
are hard to manage among a large group, there can be disagreements or unnecessary conversations
among participants that might take away from the main questions being asked, and not everyone
might what to participate or feel intimidated. Not only are their strengths and weaknesses, but also
there is also ethical concerns because it is an open group setting compared to other methods.
Therefore, the main ethical concern with focus groups is that a researcher has disclosed participants
identities to each other, which can be a concern particularly if there are sensitive topics being
discussed among one

Project Title:OPTICAL CHARACTER RECOGNITION USING ARTIFICIAL
NEURAL NETWORKS
Abstract: The Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is becoming popular areas of
research under pattern recognition and smart device applications. It requires the intelligence
like human brain to recognize the various handwritten characters. Artificial Neural Network
(ANN) is used together the information required to recognize the characters adaptively. This
paper presents a performance analysis of character recognition by Scale Invariant Feature
(SIF) matrix with a Back Propagation Neural network (BPN). A GUI based OCR system is
developed using Mat lab. The results are shown for the English alphabets and numeric. This
is observed that the perceptron network converges faster, whereas the BPN can handle the
complex script recognition when the training set is enriched.
Keywords:
Character recognition, back propagation neural network, scale invariant feature
Introduction:
Automatic character recognition is a well accepted area of research under pattern recognition.
In handwritten character recognition, characters are written by different individuals that vary
drastically from person to person due to variation in the writing style, its size and orientation
of characters. This makes the system difficult to recognize the characters. Artificial Neural
Network (ANN) helps to solve the problem of identifying handwritten characters in an
automated manner. ANN is an adaptive

The Effects Of Water On The Water Of Water Essay
Water is a very important resource, every life depends on fresh water to survive. There are three per
cent of fresh water of the world s water and all life on earth can only depends on half of it. Water has
become a very fragile resources because, people have damaged the water bodies badly from the use of
chemicals, irrigation to household. Consequently, these reasons have severely affected the water, the
environment and many lives on earth.
Industrial wastes link to a significant cause of damaging waterbodies. It associates with the building of
the dams and the chemicals waste from the industries. Dams have built to generate electricity for
cities, but it also blocks the water flow of the rivers. For example, the dam that was built in West
Africa in the Volta River blocked the river s annual flows of up to 4 times (Middleton, 2012).
Additionally, Industries sometimes do not store their chemical substances carefully and it might drip
into the river, whereas some industries directly eject the used chemical straight into the waterbodies.
For example, the Taiwanese government suggest that many big industries have expelled 100 tons of
untreated liquid chemical substance by pouring it into one of the island s longest rivers, the Kaoping

from the industrial wastes, however it also related to the chemicals use in agriculture and from
household.

Analysis Of The Prologue Of The Book By John Hinckley Jr.
In the prologue of the book it starts with an image of Ronald Reagan on his deathbed pressed close to
his desperate wife. It s a good picture to see what leads Regan to end up being in that position. In the
first chapter the reader is introduced to John Hinckley Jr. He seems like a pretty typical twenty five
year old man who has a strange obsession with an actress (Dugard and O Reilly 13). This is only the
future, right now, Reagan is having the time of his life, and doesn t even have a clue that he will go
into politics. In 1937 Reagan signed his first contract and became a Hollywood actor (Dugard and O
Reilly 19). His acting career is a success because he is a handsome young man and very talented. By
the end of his career, he had acted in 53 films. Through his acting career he meets Jane Wyman and
marries her. The hardest part of their relationship was when his wife gave birth to their child too early
and the baby did not make it (Dugard and O Reilly 27). They had two other children together but they
sent them away to a boarding school. This causes their relationship to be rocky and in May 1948 Jane
divorces Reagan (Dugard and O Reilly 29). Regan does not react well to this and as an outcome he
enters a life of sleeping around and spending all his money on expensive restaurants and bars (Dugard
and O Reilly 34). On February 21st Reagan married Nancy and with her he had two children as well
(Dugard and O Reilly 49). Like Abraham Lincoln, Ronald Reagan had a wife that was

Vincent Van Gogh And Salvador Dali
Van Gogh, Starry Night (1889) / Salvador Dali, The Persistence of Memory (1931), are two paintings
that come from a distinct time period. The two movements share a common motivation and reject the
interest of observing the world, the artists instead looked into their memories and emotions in order to
connect with the viewer on a deeper level. Both the Post Impressionist and Surrealist represent reality
as a reflection of the creative potential of the unconscious mind, and inner self.
Post Impressionist artists were influenced by the Impressionism movement, but rejected its limitations
and embarked on their own artistic styles which were more spiritually and emotionally based than
impressionist work. They wanted to portray emotion and intellect as well as the visual imagery.
Vincent Van Gogh was a Dutch Post Impressionist artist whose work is known for its vivid colors and
emotional impact. Although he sold only one painting during his lifetime, Van Gogh now is one of the
most popular artists of all time. Van Gogh s mental instability provided a source of emotional

Heathcliff Dynamic Character
There are some people who just draw attention. They do so without asking for it, but a light naturally
shines on them and they command the center of attention. Whether it be for good or bad reasons,
people cannot help but stare. One would imagine that if Heathcliff was a real person he would be one
of these individuals. He is a truly special character and the moment someone meets him in the book
that person is intrigued. The reader meets Heathcliff through several points of view and it is
impossible not to be drawn to him. This is partly due to how much of a dynamic and round character
he is. Although some people may see Heathcliff as only cold, there are so many shades to him. As

How Did English Colonization Affect Canada

French established settlements in these areas and their impact is very evident on Canada and North
America today. Exploration also allowed the French to interact with Native American tribes in those
regions in good ways and bad ways. This interaction benefited Native Americans in good ways
because it began healthy trade between the French and them. Additionally, French trade gave Native
Americans access to guns and other goods that the Native Americans didn t have. This would change

English colonization focused on religion and economy. Ever since the religious revolt against the
Catholics, staged by Martin Luther in the 16th century, there were many religions formed which
believed they had divine revelation from God. England was a land that was rich with religion and
unlike the French and Spanish, they were not Catholic. There were many Protestants who resided in
England during colonization. So, according to Early American History to 1877, to zealous English
Protestants, a colony in America would offer a bulwark against Catholic Spain and France. The
English wanted to get a religious foothold in America so that all inhabitants in America wouldn t be
tainted with Catholic beliefs. In addition, to England, a colony in America offered vast economic
trade. Therefore England tried to establish colonies early on with Jamestown and the Roanoke Colony,
but neither succeeded. They experienced hunger and hostility from the Indians and eventually had to
leave. But, the English were able to rebound. They benefited immensely from tobacco and learned
how to survive in the New World. So their objective of taking advantage of the economy of the New

Marriage Is A Necessity Of Life
At one point or another we will all experience the euphoric highs and devastating lows of love. For
most of us, the spell of love will culminate into marriage. It only seems natural since it has been a
cultural norm for hundreds of years. There is even a scientific consensus that we are biologically
compelled to find another mate. However inherent love is to us, marriage is an abstract notion
conceptualized by human philosophy. It is humanity s effort to manifest the unification of two people
and to be recognized by society. Unfortunately, it seems that we have to rethink the validity of
marriage in the 21st century. Divorce plagues society today with the probability averaging out to fifty
percent in the United States. The consequences of divorce generally devastate whole families,
destroying financial life long accomplishments, and even spur us in deep states of depression
sometimes leading to suicide. However conflicting marriage is with modernity, to older generations
the institution of marriage is a necessity of life, but is not fair to men, and is often a disservice to our
youths. As humans we seek the happiness through companionship. For prior generations, one way this
was fulfilled was through marriage. It was a way of life in which an individual would share a
household with their spouse and often times with their offspring. These institutions would be
interdependent on one another for financial stability and emotional support. However, not every

George Orwell s Animal Farm
American Journalist Carl Hiaasen once said, Good satire comes from anger. It comes from a sense of
injustice, that there are wrongs in the world that need to be fixed (www.brainyquote.com). In George
Orwell s novel, Animal Farm, Orwell fuels his inspiration for the novel from his anger and dislike
towards the misuse of governmental power, and the corruption that occurs when the government has
too much power. The pigs in this novel represent a government s leaders and the effects of what
happens when a government gains too much power and influence over its people. The pigs, especially
their leader Napoleon, misuse their power and use it to take advantage of the animal with a lower
intelligence level. Orwell satirizes Napoleon by giving him the characteristics of a ruthless dictator
who uses education, violence, and rhetoric to control the other animals on the farm.
The pigs use rhetoric to convince the animals to adopt Napoleon as their leader and remain loyal to
him. The animals on the farm spend their lives being a slave to the farm. Napoleon, however, abuses
the animals loyalty, and even though they spend every day of their lives trying to please him, they are
never good enough for Napoleon. They are constantly reminded that Bravery is not enough... loyalty
and obedience are more important (55). After the deadly battle that allowed Animal Farm to be a free

Cellulose, Starch, Glycogen, Prion Disease and Cholesterol
1. Cellulose, starch, and glycogen are very similar, yet very different. Describe the process by which
each of these molecules is formed. Why does the subtle difference in how the simple sugar monomers
are bonded in starch and cellulose affect how the two molecules are used?
Cellulose is built from glucose molecules bonded covalently together through a process known as
hydrolysis. Hydrolysis is a chemical process in which a molecule of water is added to a substance.
Each alternating glucose ring of the cellulose molecule is flipped over and the water molecule (H2O)
has been split out leaving an oxygen molecule between each ring. This chain or ribbon (the cellulose
molecule) will continue for 3,000 to 5,000 glucose units. Starch is ... Show more content on

4. Cholesterol gets a bad name because too much can cause problems for humans. Describe what
happens if someone has too much or too little cholesterol in their system. Having too much cholesterol
will cause atherosclerosis to a person. Atherosclerosis is the hardening of arteries which is caused by
the deposited plaque, a hard substance, on the artery walls. It is usually a slow process that gets worse
as a person gets older. The organ system most affected by high cholesterol is the circulatory system, or
the blood vessels. When atherosclerosis affects the coronary arteries it will cause coronary artery
disease, which puts a person at risk for having a heart attack. When atherosclerosis affects the blood
vessels that supply the brain it will cause cerebral vascular disease, which puts a person at risk of
having a stroke. Atherosclerosis may also block blood flow to other vital organs, including the kidneys
and intestines. On the other side, too little cholesterol can also cause diseases to a person. Low levels
of LDL cholesterol may increase the risk of cancer, depression, anxiety, preterm birth and low birth

Robert Agnew s General Strain Theory
Prison gangs, not much unlike street gangs; a social entity devised to bring a sense of belonging, a
sense of brotherhood. Prison gangs are found all over the world, consisting mostly of males with the
majority of prison gangs made up of Caucasians. Although, the Latino gang population is steadily
increasing. To help us understand prison gangs, we take a look at Robert Agnew s theory called
General Strain theory, in which an individual commits a crime or violence based off of 3 main
sources: 1), an individual is stopped from reaching a goal, 2), something an individual possesses or
valued is removed or threatened, 3), or something negative or unwanted is imposed on an individual
(Alvarez Bachman, 2017). Using this theory, we will dive in to understanding what has helped the

Casablanca Film Essay
Classical Hollywood film sprung up in the 1920s and lasted until the mid to late 1960s. This type of
cinema, now know as the Golden Age of Hollywood, had a very specific style. It used flashbacks,
continuity editing as well as narratives structured around the goals of individual characters (Belton
44), also known as a deadline device. Stars of that era were chosen specifically to play the individual
main characters and they had more traits than less involved characters, such as launching the main
actions of the story. Verisimilitude, the appearance of being true or real, was an attribute aspired to be
reached through the use of props, settings and décor. In addition, music and lighting were used to
stimulate an emotional connection and/or response to the story. The film Casablanca is one of the
greatest examples of the classical Hollywood era because it embodies everything the style entails, but
especially the mise en scene, sound and lighting used throughout the film.
Mise en scene can be described as a variety of categories related to the staging of action (Belton 47).
Examples of these categories are set design, costume design, performance, movement of actors, or
essentially everything placed on the stage, or in the shot of the movie. Throughout Casablanca,
strategically placed props and details can be sighted, which are used to help the audience grasp the
narrative of the story. When looking at specific items, they are used to help guide the audience and

Our candidate would risk alienating some of the more moderate voters if we recommended a more
radical stance. Our stance appeals to both sides because we do not abolish the death penalty outright,
nor do we leave the capital punishment situation unchanged. We will appease those looking for
abolishment by greatly restricting the use of the death penalty, and, as stated earlier, eliminating most

In regards to the death penalty in the United States, many people either believe that the key is issue
that the death penalty is needed because it properly punishes a criminal for the serious offenses they
commit, or cry afoul at the government for putting people to death, calling the death penalty a human
right s violation. The whole main issue boils down to a matter of life or death, who has the right to live
and who has the right to take life, when and why. The issue of the death penalty becomes very
complicated though when the grey areas are applied. The grey areas are those thoughts and ideas that
must be taken into account thus making the issue far more than black and white.
The first grey area issue is that many people, especially in the more organized Christian
denominations, Baptists, Episcopalians, and Lutherans believe the death penalty is a just form of
punishment due to their moral teachings, especially that justice consists of the ideal an eye for an eye
(Heim 2), but they feel that it is unnecessarily used in the United States (Bedau). Therefore in a case
like this the argument of the death penalty s legality is no longer an issue, it becomes an issue of in
what cases can the death penalty be fairly implied (EWTN). This issue is rather important because the

How Is Rafael Trujillo Similar To Hitler
Generalissimo Rafael Trujillo, Hitler, the Holocaust and the Jews of Sosua
In the beginning of the nineteen thirties in the midst of the Great Depression, General Rafael Trujillo
of the Dominican Republic and Adolf Hitler of Germany, both came into power. Their goals and the
way they tried to achieve them were somewhat similar.
Upon achieving power both crushed their opposition, ran their governments as dictatorships and
persecuted various classes of people.
General Trujillo rose from obscurity. After the Dominican Government defaulted on its debt to North
American creditors in 1905, Washington assumed control of their custom houses, and garnished their
receipts. When political instability occurred in 1916, the United States put the Dominican Republic
under military occupation, which lasted till 1924. During that period of time the United States Marines

African Americans And The American Revolution

a refuge for free African Americans. Forten demanded to be treated the same as whites and have full
citizenship. I agree that African Americans are created equally and should be protected by the same
laws. The legal principles James Forten used were the Declaration of Independence and the
Constitution. Those two documents are the most important in American history. Forten appealed to
what God has spoken. So God created man in his [own] image, in the image of God created he him;

Hawaii Culture Research Paper
Hawaii Culture
I chose Hawaiian culture because when people thing of Hawaii a lot of times we think hula skirts, hula
dancers, or the beach. I had this image of dancers and a tropical get away. I am interested in the
background of their culture and the different traditions that get Hawaii to where it is today. I have been
asking myself many questions such as: Who founded or first landed in Hawaii? Is there a specific
language spoken there? What is the true meaning behind hula dancers, leis, and some of their
clothing? My final question was how did these traditions start and are they still being carried out
today? The purpose of this essay is to evaluate the Hawaiian culture and form an appreciation for their
customs, values, celebration, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hawaii is founded upon six main values, those being; 1. Ke Akua, Mana, 2. Lōkahi, 3. ʻOhana, 4.
Poʻokela, 5. Hoʻomau, 6. Koho ʻIa. The first one Ke Akua, Mana can most relate to the English word
Prayer, but this isn t the whole meaning completely. The whole meaning would be having a full divine
understanding of life and the harmony between man and nature. Lōkahi the second foundation value is
about unity and working together as one whole unit for the better of the society. The third value is
ʻOhana meaning family. Hawaiians think this is the most important of all the founding values. ʻOhana
is not just about immediate family, this means the relationship with their creator as well. Forth is
Poʻokela, this refers to excellence which is not only desirable for Hawaiians but also very important to
any Hawaiian. Second the last is Hoʻomau, this means growth and regrowth of generations to keep
family traditions still going. Hawaiians must continue to grow or cease to exist, thus they have chosen
to give breath to life. Last but not least is Koho ʻIa. Which was adopted at a later time. Koho meaning
chosen. This concept pertains to everyone having the choice even if it may not seem that

Similarities Between Old English And Modern English
English went on a long and vigorous adventure to have become the vast language that we know, speak
and read today. In this essay, the differences and similarities between Old English and Modern English
will be discussed by referring to an extract of Matthew 2: 4 10 from The Gospel of Saint Matthew in
West Saxon: edited from the manuscripts by James Wilson Bright (1910:5 6). In the discussion there
will be referred to the differences and similarities in orthography, spelling, vocabulary and syntax.
Conclusions will also be made about the nature of these chances as they occurred in the adventure
from Old English to Modern English. The extract of Matthew 2:4 10 can be placed between the year

Quite a few of the Old English vocabulary can still be found in the Modern English we speak and read
today, it is just the spelling that differ is some places. Therefore, if read from a vocabulary perspective,
there are familiar words, for example, awriten which is written , læst is last , forð is forth , steorra is
star , etc. These are words which seems familiar, but because of the various influences and where
English comes from there is differences and unfamiliar words. Modern English differ from Old
English because as the language grew it took in more words and replaced old versions of words
(2011:22). For example, the word sacerda which means priests is from the Latin word sacerdos and
folc and ic is Germanic words for people and I . There are also words from Anglo Saxon, like heretoga
which is now leader or commander and tungelwitegan which is now wise

He had no regular work either, simply doing odd jobs for others. The author states that the wandering
peasants degree was humble. Due to peasants were oppressed by bourgeoisie, they led to a miserable
life in that time. However, he was arrogant and conceit. Ah Q had a very high opinion of himself. He
looked down on all the inhabitants of Weichuang, thinking even the two young scholars not worth a
smile, though most young scholars were likely to pass the official examinations. Furthermore, the
book portrayed the personality and behavior of Ah Q. winning a psychological victory was obvious
character for Ah Q. For instance, Ah Q, this is not a son beating his father, it is a man beating a beast.
Let s hear you say it: A man bearing a beast! Though this method, Ah Q can decrease the external
pressure, but the result is that he escapes from reality. In that era, Ah Q s character and his winner a
psychological victory have a broad representation, not only the behaviors of Ah Q are ridiculers, but
also reflect the national character. In sum, there are lots of people the same as Ah Q, who are ignorant,
idle and complaining. These people are pathetic and sad.
Secondly, after the opium wars, China became semi colony in the world. Internal and external world
also have big problems. Although Chinese peasants had the Revolution, they still suffered oppressive
politics, economic exploitation and spiritual

of the largest retail stores in the wholesale industry. Costco mission is to offer their customers low

We found that by compensating employees generously to motivate and retain good workers, one fifth
of whom are unionizes, Costco gets lower turnover and higher productivity. Combined with a smart
business strategy that sells a mix of higher margin products to more affluent customers, Costco
actually keeps its labor costs lower than Wal Mart s as a percentage of sales, and its 68, 000 hourly
workers in the U.S. sell more per square foot. Put another way, the 102, 000 Sam s employees in the
U.S. generated some $35 billion in sales last year, while Costco did $34 billion with one third fewer
employees (Holmes and Zellner, 2004). Costco Generic Strategy Costco generic strategy is the Low
Cost Provider Strategy. According to Thompson, Strickland, and Gamble, low cost provider strategy is
striving to achieve lower overall costs than rivals and appealing to a broad spectrum of customers,
usually by under pricing rivals . (Thompson et al., 2008). Costco was successful in has successfully
implemented low cost strategy by driving costs out of their businesses, through low pricing, limited
product selection, and a treasure hunt shopping environment. Pricing is Costco key element of their

  • 2. A Descriptive Essay About My House In my lifetime, I have lived in 4 different homes. None of them can even compare to the very first home I lived in, in my hometown of Allentown, Pennsylvania. It was a quaint duplex home that was on a tranquil street underneath a towering maple tree. Nothing will ever be able to replace its permanent spot in my heart. Through my eyes, my house seemed like a castle and I was the princess. The backyard was my favorite part of the whole house. It was always so luminous with dew and the lingering smell of petrichor in the air. The grass always felt as soft as silk. It almost seemed like little feathers tickling your feet. The lawn was also filled with plants of all shapes and sizes, varying from as dainty as a dandelion, to as mighty as a pine tree. My favorite plant in my backyard were the clovers, which grew in copious amounts. Whenever I was bored, I would search for four leafed clovers in hopes of having eternal luck. Walking along the side of the house, you can see the different shades of red and white bricks used to build the home that I admired so much. At the base of the house, next to the gigantic maple tree, grew a running vine that had massive green leaves. That vine grew us pumpkins that we used to carve and make our own homemade pumpkin pie. Then, there was the front of the house that was built with oversized, textured, white bricks. In the center of the house was a large window. Below it was a green and silver aluminum awning that reflected ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Number Of Mobile Cellular Networks Operators Who Can... The work has been able to verify that the number of mobile cellular network operators who can effectively share infrastructure on a base station is limited by the following parameters: Sensitivity degradation threshold E field threshold or radiation limit Allowable BTS noise floor limit Require antenna isolation Interference level (from spurious emission, leakages, etc.) Tower wind loading From the result, it was observed that six (6) GSM operators can share infrastructure for a passive infrastructure sharing scheme without severe and unacceptable degradation of system performance. For number of BTS operators greater than six (6), the noise floor becomes larger than 110dB, which is not acceptable. However, as the number of users of a tower increase, the wind loading and tower bending moment increases. Therefore, when designing towers, wind loading analysis for collocation scenario should be carried out. Among the parameters, the level of sensitivity degradation should be monitored closely, since its value aid in determining system performance for a specific interference level and BTS noise floor, which depends on the number of collocating operators. When the sensitivity degradation is greater than 3dB it indicates that the interference threshold is larger than the noise floor limit, which is temperature and bandwidth dependent. It was also observed that the higher the antenna gain, the longer the antenna separating distance. The coverage radius is affected by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Negative Differences Of A Centralized Government In... The Texas government reflects a negative attitude towards having centralized governments. A centralized government is when the power of the government belongs to very few people and is not dispersed among a larger group. That could include things like monarchies and dictatorships where there only a single authority. Centralized governments is exactly the opposite of what Texas displays. Texas is an example of a decentralized government where the power is dispersed amongst a group of multiple people. There is no single authority in a Texas government because it includes many people with power like attorney generals, governor, senators and representatives. What really makes Texas decentralized is the citizens having the ability to choose whoever they want to have power in the Texas government. A city council is considered the body in cities that have corporate status and also have a local government. Their responsibility is to create laws which affect all of the residents that live in the certain city which they work in. Every city has a different number of city council members and the type of district that they are responsible for representing varies from city to city. In some cities the council member is elected by the whole city in a similar method to the way that a mayor is elected. Another way of electing city council members is by electing them to represent certain parts rather than the whole entire city being represented by just one member. The final way is by a ... The World Of The Vietnam War The year is 1965: the skate board is the latest craze in kids toys; the miniskirt makes its appearance; hypertext is introduced for linking on the Internet; Kellogg s Pop Tarts pastries are created; Sonny Cher make their first TV appearance in American Bandstand ; rights activist Malcolm X is shot dead; the Gemini 3 launched the first US 2 man space flight; and the first United States combat forces arrive in Vietnam. This was not the start of the Vietnam War since the war actually started in 1955, pitting Communist North Vietnam against anti Communist South Vietnam. The United States believed it had to protect South Vietnam from Communist take over and is the reason the U.S. supplied South Vietnam with millions of dollars in military aid as well as with military advisors from the start of the war. Eventually, the US had no other choice but to send troops to war and it became the first war Americans opposed publicly and passionately, making the US involvement in the Vietnam War a shameful venture rather than a noble cause. Although the Vietnam War was the first televised war, it is unclear if Vietnam War films are able to give an honest portrayal of the Vietnam War experience, or if truer reality of the war can be found only in textbooks. The Vietnam War was so much a part of American life that it could not be ignored, and with war films losing their appeal after World War II, it s hard to know if the Vietnam War would be actually portrayed on the big screen. One can therefore experience everything from Spanish to Russian to Ethiopian cuisines in a matter of hours, especially in metropolitan cities such as New York, Paris, or Sao Paolo. Yet there are some cuisines that have reigned supreme in the world of dining, and that take the prize for being the most complex, sought after, delicious cuisines ever experienced. French cuisine, one would hope, would be at the forefront of such fantastic experiences. With its delicacies, from escargots to foie gras, French cuisine has impacted many thousands of taste buds across the globe for many centuries. This paper will thus discuss the influence that French food has had upon the food service industry in the United States, in a quick attempt to understand and examine just how sought after French cuisine still is. One of the most obvious influences of French cuisines in America can be felt in New Orleans. This city was established in the 18th century by Ursuline nuns, under the orders of Louis XV of France. Ever since, New Orleans has been central to how one experiences French food in the United States, as well as how one sees the mix of French and American cuisines to produce something truly unique. Yet this kind of French food, or Creole food, as this would be called, is only one facet of the array of dishes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Human wellbeing, food and water security, health issues and national security are some of the threats that New Zealand will have to resolve. One of the first global effort in response to combating the issue of climate change is the Kyoto Protocol. However, the agreement did not include the two largest world emitters of greenhouse gas China and the USA. The issue impedes development in many small south pacific island nations. Agriculture is one of the major export for many developing island nations. The rise in sea level due to climate change directly affects the agricultural production. The ASEAN summit has identified food security to be of great concern and there is a need to address the issue. The issue affects most south pacific island countries. Climate change affects them in many ways and one of the major issues is the rise in sea levels. High tides lead to flooded roads affecting transportation and other infrastructure. Heat stress and saltwater incursions are some of the effects that is quite problematic for the industry. • 10. A Basic Principle Of Attachment Theory Essay A parent child interaction happens prenatal and continues throughout a child s development soon after a child is born, an attachment begins. This attachment begins with imprinting which some call the sensitive period. During this time the child will become attached to the first caregiver seen (usually the mother) and look to it for any sort of comfort. This was discovered through Bowlby s experiment with ducks in the 1970 s, Bowlby defined attachment theory as Attachment theory conceptualizes the propensity of human beings to make strong affectional bonds to particular others (Bowlby, 1977, p. 201). (Bartholomew Horowitz, 1991 p. 226). A basic principle of attachment theory is that attachment relationships continue to be important throughout the life span (Ainsworth, 1982,1989; Bowlby, 1977,1980,1982b). (Bartholomew Horowitz, 1991 p. 226). Many theories have been proposed to explain what motivates human interactions and behaviors in relationships. This literature review on Shelley A. • 12. Paradise Lost Analysis Paradise Lost is an epic poem written by John Milton other uses this epic poem to depict the integral scenes, or rather, experiences that lead up to the fall of mankind in the Garden of Eden. In the Bible, as well as all prominent, and popular religious works; there is a clear distinction as to who the reader should be cheering for throughout their readings. However, John Milton s Paradise Lost has turned this concept on its head. Rather than placing the focus onto Adam, Eve, or even God himself Milton instead chooses to place the main focus on to Satan. The Fallen Angels, and Satan are meant to be are antagonists within this epic poem. But, do they start out this way? Satan is usually conveyed as a villain, yet the Satan we see within Paradise Lost, and Paradise Regained is flushed out in a similar fashion to protagonist s within other prevalent written works in the last few centuries. As William Blake concluded in his critique of Paradise Lost: he (Milton) was a true poet and of the devil s party without knowing it . However, John Milton does not continue on this path in portraying the devil s so heroically in his second Epic poem Paradise Regained (Nafi, 23). The Satan that we knew in Paradise Lost; who was known for his wit, intelligence, and persuasive attitude appear to no longer exist. It s as if his character is downplayed as we progress through the rest from the later books of Paradise Lost, and continue on to Paradise Regained. Satan, who poetically danced within the dreams of Eve, and planted the seed of curiosity within her head was reduced to an antagonist with a lackluster performance. There are several major points in which we are able to see the progression of Satan as a fleshed out character. However, to understand the progression of Satan s development as a character; it is important for us to analyze major plot points throughout the twelve books of Paradise Lost. As John Milton was a devout religious man throughout his life, and this concert is clear throughout his writings within his various works. Yet, in a peculiar fashion, Paradise Lost introduces the devil, and Satan first. In an ironic twist Satan addressed before Adam, Eve, Jesus, or even God. Once the poem starts we are ... Coping with Anxiety Literature review In 2013, associate professor of psychology at the University of California, Kate Sweeny and her researchers surveyed 230 law school graduates for a period of four months after taking their bar exam in July 2013 ( J. Hoffman, 2015). The purpose of her research was to focus on the waiting period during which the person is uncertain of the outcome of a life situation and how they manage any anxiety that may occur during that time. The individuals that were surveyed in this descriptive research used three different strategies when asked about how they tried to avoid anxiety while waiting on their exam scores. The first group attempted to suppress their fears by trying to not pay attention. The second group sought for silver linings. They tried to anticipate something good in a bad outcome Dr. Sweeny explained. The third group used defensive pessimism. At the end of Dr. Sweeny s research study what came up is that the people that were calmed down during the waiting period were shattered and paralyzed by the bad news and if they got good news, they were not impress by the results (Dr. Sweeny, 2015). The English colonists arrived in Chesapeake Bay where the Powhatan Indians had been calling home for quite some time. There were over thirty Indian tribes totaling 14,000 Indians. This is where the first colony, Jamestown, was settled in 1607. I believe this created a lot of tension between the Indians and the new settlers considering the previous settling and attacks of the Spanish on the Indians. The Indians lived such a generous way of life welcoming the new English settlers by offering them food. However, the good intentions faded quickly after. The leader of the Powhatan Indians, Powhatan, was intending to entice the English through generosity and their selfless attitudes. Sure enough, this act of kindness was overlooked by the English colonists, and they immediately began searching for wealth such as tobacco. As we have spoken about in class, Jamestown was a colony that significantly valued material objects and wealth; whereas Plymouth colony did not focus their rule around that idea. The new colonists were so set on acquiring wealth that they failed to grow crops such as corn and beans. This led the English to depend more on the Indians for food since the Indians were very successful farmers and knew how to live off the land. John Smith s leadership swooped in and saved the colony of Jamestown. He conducted means of exploring the land and gathering ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Using Focus Groups In Qualitative Research In today s society, at risk youths often face challenges when reaching out to adults regarding their personal situations, especially when it comes to them wanting someone to understand their own perspectives. Therefore, it is important as a researcher to understand the different procedures to research, especially when selecting an appropriate method to investigate a problem a community faces, such as with studying youths. In order to understand how this method can be used in this study, then it first must be explained. According to the text, Making Sense of the Social World, focus groups are considered as, a qualitative method that involves unstructured group interviews in which the focus group leader actively encourages discussion among participants on the topics of interest (Chambliss Schutt, 2016, p. 220). Often times young adults are more open when around others of their own age, this is the main reason I selected this method because an at risk youth is going to be more comfortable answering questions and sharing their opinions when around a group that shares similar characteristics or life situations compared to just a one on one conversation between them and a researcher or amongst strangers. However, with this method there are also strengths and weaknesses when using this method. The major strengths to focus groups are: they can save time and money compared to other methods, they provide participants the opportunity to explain their viewpoints, it allows for participants to be more open and give clarification on their personal and group perceptions, and they provide for a broad range of information and data to be collected from the sample. The disadvantages to focus groups are: they are hard to manage among a large group, there can be disagreements or unnecessary conversations among participants that might take away from the main questions being asked, and not everyone might what to participate or feel intimidated. Not only are their strengths and weaknesses, but also there is also ethical concerns because it is an open group setting compared to other methods. Therefore, the main ethical concern with focus groups is that a researcher has disclosed participants identities to each other, which can be a concern particularly if there are sensitive topics being discussed among one ... Project Title:OPTICAL CHARACTER RECOGNITION USING ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORKS Abstract: The Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is becoming popular areas of research under pattern recognition and smart device applications. It requires the intelligence like human brain to recognize the various handwritten characters. Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is used together the information required to recognize the characters adaptively. This paper presents a performance analysis of character recognition by Scale Invariant Feature (SIF) matrix with a Back Propagation Neural network (BPN). A GUI based OCR system is developed using Mat lab. The results are shown for the English alphabets and numeric. This is observed that the perceptron network converges faster, whereas the BPN can handle the complex script recognition when the training set is enriched. Keywords: Character recognition, back propagation neural network, scale invariant feature Introduction: Automatic character recognition is a well accepted area of research under pattern recognition. In handwritten character recognition, characters are written by different individuals that vary drastically from person to person due to variation in the writing style, its size and orientation of characters. This makes the system difficult to recognize the characters. Artificial Neural Network (ANN) helps to solve the problem of identifying handwritten characters in an automated manner. There are three per cent of fresh water of the world s water and all life on earth can only depends on half of it. Water has become a very fragile resources because, people have damaged the water bodies badly from the use of chemicals, irrigation to household. Consequently, these reasons have severely affected the water, the environment and many lives on earth. Industrial wastes link to a significant cause of damaging waterbodies. It associates with the building of the dams and the chemicals waste from the industries. Dams have built to generate electricity for cities, but it also blocks the water flow of the rivers. For example, the dam that was built in West Africa in the Volta River blocked the river s annual flows of up to 4 times (Middleton, 2012). Additionally, Industries sometimes do not store their chemical substances carefully and it might drip into the river, whereas some industries directly eject the used chemical straight into the waterbodies. For example, the Taiwanese government suggest that many big industries have expelled 100 tons of untreated liquid chemical substance by pouring it into one of the island s longest rivers, the Kaoping (Agoramoorthy Hsu, 2000). English colonization focused on religion and economy. Ever since the religious revolt against the Catholics, staged by Martin Luther in the 16th century, there were many religions formed which believed they had divine revelation from God. So, according to Early American History to 1877, to zealous English Protestants, a colony in America would offer a bulwark against Catholic Spain and France. The English wanted to get a religious foothold in America so that all inhabitants in America wouldn t be tainted with Catholic beliefs. In addition, to England, a colony in America offered vast economic trade. Therefore England tried to establish colonies early on with Jamestown and the Roanoke Colony, but neither succeeded. • 31. Marriage Is A Necessity Of Life At one point or another we will all experience the euphoric highs and devastating lows of love. For most of us, the spell of love will culminate into marriage. It only seems natural since it has been a cultural norm for hundreds of years. There is even a scientific consensus that we are biologically compelled to find another mate. However inherent love is to us, marriage is an abstract notion conceptualized by human philosophy. It is humanity s effort to manifest the unification of two people and to be recognized by society. Unfortunately, it seems that we have to rethink the validity of marriage in the 21st century. Divorce plagues society today with the probability averaging out to fifty percent in the United States. The consequences of divorce generally devastate whole families, destroying financial life long accomplishments, and even spur us in deep states of depression sometimes leading to suicide. However conflicting marriage is with modernity, to older generations the institution of marriage is a necessity of life, but is not fair to men, and is often a disservice to our youths. As humans we seek the happiness through companionship. For prior generations, one way this was fulfilled was through marriage. It was a way of life in which an individual would share a household with their spouse and often times with their offspring. These institutions would be interdependent on one another for financial stability and emotional support. However, not every marriage was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. George Orwell s Animal Farm American Journalist Carl Hiaasen once said, Good satire comes from anger. It comes from a sense of injustice, that there are wrongs in the world that need to be fixed (www.brainyquote.com). In George Orwell s novel, Animal Farm, Orwell fuels his inspiration for the novel from his anger and dislike towards the misuse of governmental power, and the corruption that occurs when the government has too much power. The pigs in this novel represent a government s leaders and the effects of what happens when a government gains too much power and influence over its people. The pigs, especially their leader Napoleon, misuse their power and use it to take advantage of the animal with a lower intelligence level. Orwell satirizes Napoleon by giving him the characteristics of a ruthless dictator who uses education, violence, and rhetoric to control the other animals on the farm. The pigs use rhetoric to convince the animals to adopt Napoleon as their leader and remain loyal to him. The animals on the farm spend their lives being a slave to the farm. Napoleon, however, abuses the animals loyalty, and even though they spend every day of their lives trying to please him, they are never good enough for Napoleon. They are constantly reminded that Bravery is not enough... loyalty and obedience are more important (55). Describe the process by which each of these molecules is formed. Why does the subtle difference in how the simple sugar monomers are bonded in starch and cellulose affect how the two molecules are used? Cellulose is built from glucose molecules bonded covalently together through a process known as hydrolysis. Hydrolysis is a chemical process in which a molecule of water is added to a substance. Each alternating glucose ring of the cellulose molecule is flipped over and the water molecule (H2O) has been split out leaving an oxygen molecule between each ring. • 36. Casablanca Film Essay Classical Hollywood film sprung up in the 1920s and lasted until the mid to late 1960s. This type of cinema, now know as the Golden Age of Hollywood, had a very specific style. It used flashbacks, continuity editing as well as narratives structured around the goals of individual characters (Belton 44), also known as a deadline device. Stars of that era were chosen specifically to play the individual main characters and they had more traits than less involved characters, such as launching the main actions of the story. Verisimilitude, the appearance of being true or real, was an attribute aspired to be reached through the use of props, settings and décor. In addition, music and lighting were used to stimulate an emotional connection and/or response to the story. The film Casablanca is one of the greatest examples of the classical Hollywood era because it embodies everything the style entails, but especially the mise en scene, sound and lighting used throughout the film. Mise en scene can be described as a variety of categories related to the staging of action (Belton 47). Examples of these categories are set design, costume design, performance, movement of actors, or essentially everything placed on the stage, or in the shot of the movie. Throughout Casablanca, strategically placed props and details can be sighted, which are used to help the audience grasp the narrative of the story. In regards to the death penalty in the United States, many people either believe that the key is issue that the death penalty is needed because it properly punishes a criminal for the serious offenses they commit, or cry afoul at the government for putting people to death, calling the death penalty a human right s violation. The whole main issue boils down to a matter of life or death, who has the right to live and who has the right to take life, when and why. The issue of the death penalty becomes very complicated though when the grey areas are applied. The grey areas are those thoughts and ideas that must be taken into account thus making the issue far more than black and white. The first grey area issue is that many people, especially in the more organized Christian denominations, Baptists, Episcopalians, and Lutherans believe the death penalty is a just form of punishment due to their moral teachings, especially that justice consists of the ideal an eye for an eye (Heim 2), but they feel that it is unnecessarily used in the United States (Bedau). Therefore in a case like this the argument of the death penalty s legality is no longer an issue, it becomes an issue of in what cases can the death penalty be fairly implied (EWTN).
